Wow a lot of March Kirby birthdays
Out of curiosity, would Noir have the same birthday as Dark matter swordsman or different birthdays?
If they have different birthdays, then that's funny in the sense that both him and Adeleine have 2 birthdays technically*
*(in the case you believe Ado and Adeleine are the same)
It was hinted at as an easter egg in this AU AU-verse comic, but yes, Noir has the same birthday as Dark Matter Swordsman, March 21st. Just a few days before his sister's birthday! (It's kind of funny how that works out as that would mean both of the shiver siblings were conceived in the summer, which I find dreadfully fitting!)
As for Adeleine's two birthdays (she is also Ado in Apologies (1) as "Ado" is how King Dedede addresses her - he was only half paying attention when she told him her name!) March 27th was the day she "arrived" on Planet Popstar, making it her Popstarian Birthday! (2)
Adeleine having two birthdays and Noir having one is kind of emblematic of how he treats her vs himself. I imagine his own birthday passes with that sick dread that is most of teen Noir's life. He wants it to hurry and pass by so he can focus on finding ways to escape / distract / forget / avoid / run celebrate his sister's.
But that's because he's the only one with concrete memories of their parents. I imagine one of the reasons his birthday hurts so much is that he can still recall a time when they were both protected; when he didn't have to grow up fast; when there weren't lives hanging on his dumb kid decisions; when he had people he could trust.
Apologies Adeleine is neuro-divergent (in case anyone wondered why she's still so "childish" seeming even at 13) so HER earliest memories are playing games with her brother in the dark of their old empty home. She cannot remember the faces of their parents.
Anyway, have a semi-relevant bonus sketch from my files! (3)
Outside of Apologies-verse, I'm kind of torn on whether I believe they're the same or not. I feel like HAL would say it already if they weren't cooking something.
"But Apologies takes place in summer! Wouldn't Noir have sent her off at the tail end of summer, not spring?" Yep! But Adeleine...did not get to Popstar via normal means of linear time, so it's still possible for her to arrive there in March!
This is a multi-layered joke based on synesthesia, Adeleine playing the keyboard in a scrapped Kirby 64 mini-game, and the colored "composer credits" in various Kirby games. ...Also, Dess will neither confirm nor deny whether songstress Neichel is the children's mother in the Apologies-verse, but... if Noir had to wake up to the sound of his mother's singing voice on the radio like a lullaby every morning only to hear everyone else grumble and call her a traitorous bitch throughout the day...that definitely would mess with you, huh? ^^
"Who's that, Noir...?" "...Dunno. Everyone seems pretty mad at her." "Why? She looks nice." "...Yeah."
#Kirby#Adeleine#Noir (human form dms)#Apologies AU#Neichel#Why is it that every piece of Apologies lore I reveal makes Noir's life hurt more?#Anyway someone asked about the Adeleine keyboard thing + DL3 sound room thing a while ago so this also answers that#I GUESS you could argue that Noir has a second 'birthday' in DL 3 when Zero dragged him back to life but that's pretty awful so XD

hey just wondering, how do you draw daroach? i wanna figure him out for myself but dont feel like i get down how he looks well enough. thanks for the help if you have any, if not then thanks for just answering
Thank you for the question! And, yeah, I totally get it - that rat can be a nightmare to draw sometimes, haha. I definitely struggled with him a lot at first (you can kinda tell if you compare my earlier works to my recent ones). I think it’s because so much of him is obscured by his outfit in official art? The way the brim of his hat dips over his face or how his cape likes to defy physics - all in service of a cooler silhouette, sure, but taking away a lot of readability and foundation to work from in the process. I’ll try to offer some tips that work for me (though I’m hardly an expert on this, and teaching's not exactly my strong suit, so please bear with me if things get muddled, haha).
The main piece of advice I can give is gather and study as much reference as you can. Official art, concept art, promotional stuff, sprite sheets - whatever you can find, just grab ‘em and put ‘em somewhere you can easily pull up when you’re drawing. I get most of mine from Wikirby, Spriter’s Resource, and official sites like the Kirby JP Twitter, as well as screenshots taken directly from the games (a great way to get in-motion poses and back views, I’ve found). Here’s what my ref sheet for Daroach looks like (I also have a separate one for color swatches):
Kind of a mess, yeah, but very worth it, I assure you. The more visuals you have to work off of, the easier it will be to detect consistencies in design. Which brings me to my next point: shapes!
Most Kirby characters are, at their core, just a buncha simple shapes. It can be hard to tell sometimes when they wear clothes (like with our rat buddy here), but they still have similar foundations of circles and other rounded features. A way I've found that helps with this is to try redlining (that is, take a piece of reference and trace over it for the purpose of study, learning where lines connect, how silhouettes look, how different parts overlap, what shapes are used, etc.). Here’s an example:
This is a great way to find those design consistencies I mentioned before. I did these a bit messy for a better sense of movement (and ‘cause I’m practiced enough to sketch a little quicker), but you can always start slower and cleaner if it helps you see the shapes and layers more clearly. You can even do them multiple times to familiarize yourself with the design and eventually try copying them without tracing, like doing gesture drawings or life studies.
In Daroach, I’ve found that his head isn’t a perfect circle shape, but more like a rounded diamond, with his ears connecting at or just above the “points” on the sides. His body is a bit smaller than his head, and his snout smaller still, each having sort of a teardrop-like shape. His eyes are bigger than I expected them to be, half circles tilted down slightly, often cut off by his snout and hat to create a shaper angle (meant to make him look more intimidating perhaps?). His ears are taller than his hat, though they can tilt back to look shorter. There are also a lot of arcs and triangles present in his design, especially in his cape when it sits across his form or flares out, and the brim of his hat pointing down from just past his ears to right over his snout. Also, unlike many Kirby characters, he does in fact have a neck - it's just hidden behind his collar and bell most of the time (don't ask me why I spent so long verifying this, no I don't have ulterior motives, don't look at me).
Of course, these observations aren’t set in stone. Kirby characters rarely stay perfectly on-model (see Dedede for proof of that), and Daroach is clearly no exception. I mean, just look at these official pieces (all collected from Wikirby):
Even the folks at HAL Labs are not immune to style inconsistency. And that’s not a bad thing! We love a little personal flair in this house. There’s nothing wrong with altering the design a bit to fit your own style - in fact, it’ll probably happen naturally the more you practice, especially once you’re comfortable enough to work without a guide. Here’s some studies I did recently, no tracing, just observation (with different colors used to help me figure out layering):
I’ve seen other folks take their own designs even further than this, adding more fur or sharper shapes or even realistic rat features to our favorite thief. Nothing like stretching those creative muscles once you’ve got the basics down! On that note, don’t be afraid to be inspired by unofficial sources as well. If an artist you like draws Daroach (or any character) in a way you find appealing, ask yourself what it is you like about it, study it as you study official works, and find ways to incorporate elements of that into your own art - “steal like an artist” as the saying goes.
Another thing I recommend for Daroach specifically is studying how real top hats and capes look, especially from various angles and poses in motion. I find it helps to see exactly how fabric sits on a figure or what sides show at different positions. It might seem weird to use human reference for a cartoon rat, and it might take some finagling to get proportions right, but it’s surprisingly effective. I do this with fighting and athletic poses all the time to help figure out weight distribution and line of action. Don’t be afraid to expand your art repertoire into other fields - you never know when it might come in handy!
And, of course, the key thing to hammer home here is practice, practice, practice! Do studies, do gestures, draw with and without references, build muscle memory, do sketches you show to no one, draw memes, draw angst, take your time, fill pages with messy doodles or just drop one in a corner and call it a day. The more you draw this smarmy rat, the better you’ll get. That’s the long and short of it with any skill, creative or otherwise. You gotta try in order to get good, you gotta make mistakes in order to improve, you gotta be kind to yourself in order to do what you love.
Anyway, I think that’s all I got for now. Forgive me if this got a bit rambly or incoherent - I have trouble putting my thought process in words sometimes, haha. I sincerely hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck with your own future rat-creating endeavors!
Sketch started and finished 06/14/24.

The Miracles That Came Too Late
Wowwie mamamia we're returning to the past!
The final one for the mutual's choice prompts! @somethinginworl asked for more Taranza content. At the start I wanted Robobot and Taranza bonding, but as I wrote it, I just... find it very sh•t. So instead, you all get what really happened during events of Triple Deluxe, aka The Floralian Coup (which is... Only the climax because I find it funny). Aka the time where Kirby gets his first warning that not everyone can be saved. Planet Robobot was his second warning that not everyone can be saved without a price, y'all. Maybe we'll start murdering some people in the AU at some point, but don't worry, Team Starstruck might make it all alive. Except if a new Planet Robobot remake or sequel decided Robobot Armor dies permanently, in that case there will be actual deaths most likely but hey who am I to tell you blame HAL-
I would like to say thank you to @vodkanewtony for helping out with a bit of editing (he is a huge fan of Dedede so I may or may not have baited him with the fact Dedede is very prominent in this fic). And hey look, the Hypernova ability has a different gimmick running around this time. Yes, I am revamping this ability AND Kabuki from the anime! We will see what these two modified abilities can do in this AU eventually, but at least you get a sneak peek of Hypernova's concept!
Enjoy your angst land, lads, and good night. I should be asleep, but no, I am still up for your entertainment

I don't think i even need to say it if you know me but I will.
Metadad solos 💙 though my interps of all the characters mainly come from the anime as there is a lot more evidence towards meta caring towards kirby there,, its definitely a mix of both parental and mentor though as he does go out of his way to push kirby to bring out his potential by endangering him sometimes
like in the kirby derby for example when he gets sword and blade to cut Kirbys breaks in order to push him into learning how to pilot his starship, once kirby does so he takes things less seriously telling tiff and tuff "lets enjoy the rest of the race" and even sacrifices his car in the end to protect kirby from dededes attack
There are some scenes where hes just outright protective though, in the escargoon robot episode he outright slidekicks escargoon to stop him from shooting kirby with a bazooka, and in the scarfy ep where he hits the scarfy to get it off of kirby which is one of my favourite frames in the show,, this one is less obvious and more reading between the lines but in the UV episode when tuff states kirby needs to fight the dragon monster Meta asks kirby if he can do it but the tone he uses is EXACTLY the same what a parent would say to child who was unsure or not confident (in the sub not the dub) and the fact he even asks instead of ordering kirby to do so shows him checking in on Kirby to see whether the task would be too much for him alone which i think is so sweet and has became a moment i think about a lot now despite it being a mundane episode (i even ended up writing a fic on a what if scenario on if kirby said no instead 🤭)
[EDITING THIS IN I FORGOT THE WOLFWRATH EPISODE 😭😭 where instead of letting kirby try to fight the monster before stepping in for whatever reason he IMMEDIATELY gets between kirby and wolfwrath because he believes Kirby is not ready for that yet, he makes sure to gauge whether kirby is capable enough to handle the situation and if not acts accordingly again it is a very parental/mentor tactic i feel like those two descriptors overlap A LOT. Also in the same episode where he eventually gets hit and paralysed by wolfwraths fang his last words before falling unconscious is a pained "protect kirby" to sword and blade, it could have been 'protect the castle' as thats their job to be loyal to dedede or 'protect the kids' but it was specifically aimed at Kirby showing his desire to ensure kirbys safety specifically which stands out to me]
The parallels between the older star warriors and the young ones is very apparent too. In the anime we're introduced to both jecra (officially knuckle joes father but thats way too long lmao) and garlude as strong star warriors as well as their kids knuckle joe and sirica. Jecra and garlude both had strong bonds with meta knight and that parallels with knuckle joe and sirica forming bonds with kirby eventually coming to his aid in the finale the triangle of warriors and then their successors again merits that sort of relationship with kirby and meta, especially with him stating hes going to watch over and train/raise kirby (the new generation) which is what he stayed alive for.
In the games the dynamic is definitely less apparent due to Sakurai and then Kumazaki/HAL wanting to keep relationships more open ended and vague, but with Forgotten Land releasing and the deliberate choice to make Kirby smaller than Meta now I think they wanted to at least hint towards there being an age difference with Kirby being younger which on its own doesnt merit the immediate father/son relationship ofc,, its definitely more student/mentor in the games but the idea of Meta wanting to keep kirbys skills sharp by dueling him (the colosseum) is a way of ensuring Kirby is strong enough to protect himself, and also keeping metas skills sharp since he does see kirby as an equal, so he can continue to protect everyone which i really like.
sword of the surviving guardian implying meta as a protector of everyone is sweet and extends to kirby too imo even if he doesn't "need" protecting. Its more of a mutual being there for friends/family no matter what so still fits into that sort of relationship for them :)
Dedede i definitely dont see as a father figure for kirby anime or game, hes definitely older brother/uncle to kirby with the whole character arc he has in both anime/game where he doesnt like kirby but eventually grows to love him even if he doesnt admit it (specifically eyeing the anime here bc im sure ill get eyesquints for saying he eventually grows to love Kirby despite being the active antagonist but in the episode where they fake kirbys death you can see how upset dedede is when he thinks hes gone and the impact kirby had on him by being his rival essentially)
In the end does kirby need parental figures? No ofc hes capable enough on his own but i think he'd probably like having some regardless of who they are, hes still a kid/young so having adult figures to be able to rely on in his life whether that be MK or Dedede or the animal friends bc ik theyre popular parent figures in the fandom for him, is super sweet to see in fandom interps :) lots of other people have been saying the whole "it takes a village" mentality when it comes to raising a kid and i think that does fit perfectly for kirby with the entirety of the star allies and tbh just dreamland in general
Anyways thats enough rambling from lil' ol' me ☺ who would have thought the metadad enjoyer believes in metadad what a turn of events!
I'm gonna get some hate for this but im curious
TO CLARIFY a Mentor figure and Parental figure are different in this scenario.

If what you said about FL being the last time the trope will be used, you mean he has a weak will *so far*.
that's true.
i really hope that this is the last time in the longest time dedede is possessed trope is used and it's not just because i like dedede and feel sorry for him, but also because i think everyone been getting sick of this.
you can only do the same thing so much until it gets so old you can't make it feel new anymore.
Forgotten Land worked around that by approaching it from different angles in storytelling perspective, like actually treating it as a serious event and Kirby benig unable to make Dedede come to his senses easily, but you can pull this kind of stunt only once. After that it would feel like it's just the same thing they did in Forgotten Land but worse or just exact same.
Previous games could somewhat get away with it purely because it was always treated purely as a gameplay element. But as HAL devs started adding more story into Kirby you have fewer opportunities to make this feel fresh again.
I don't want to sound pessimistic or negative, but I genuinely hope this was a farewell to this trope, at least in terms of Dedede. They literally haven't used him for anything else in games in years now. In Star Allies? Possessed. In Kirby Fighters 2? Ends up being possessed during the true final boss. In KATFL? Also possessed. KATFL fared the best out of these three, but this is ridiculous now.

The Kirby series as a whole for the fandom ask?
this is a good one! i was hoping someone would ask me it >///>
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character:
tough one, i like a lot of characters for different reasons. if you really force me to choose though it's dedede and meta. this makes me look biased towards metadede however LOL so if you really really make me choose between those two it's dedede
Least Favorite character:
i don't have any least favorites, mostly it's just people i know nothing about. in which case its all of the animal friends and actually, just generally everyone from the dreamland games and 64. pyribbit is an exception to this however fuck that dude
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):
- metadede >_> andd that's the only thing i really brainrot over but other stuff i like: - morphogala 🥺 - magoranza :) - chilly/burning leo. listen i blame my server and the starlight theatre novel for making me feel this way - meta knight/sir arthur from the anime. this is my crackship that i never talk about and never will talk about LOL. also ive seen more than several people hc arthur as meta's dad so im just gonna. hide in this corner by myself. its okay i dont mind - this is 6 but also on the topic of the anime, meta/knuckle joes dad is also good. mmmmmmmm angst who doesnt love angst
Character I find most attractive:
hahahahahahaha that’s classified
Character I would marry:
BUT. dedede. i would also take zan, those two are tied
Character I would be best friends with:
kinda hard to answer this. maybe also dedede? honestly anyone who i could just walk into their house and crash and dump stupid questions and convos on
a random thought:
i think kirby would feel like raw bread dough after the first prove. very specific, but its always what crosses my mind when i make bread 🤔
An unpopular opinion:
in this fandom... uh, i like the anime. fun to watch to take up time and if you’re not coming in expecting what you get from the games, lore and character development wise. it has its own charm
My Canon OTP:
no ones together in this series djkfdhg. rick and pick i guess? i think theyre cute
My Non-canon OTP:
this was already covered in the 5 favorite ships section so boom this is a metadede free space now. dedede likes to call meta pet names that are the names of pastries and desserts, but they get so ridiculous and specific that neither of them can take it seriously anymore. in fact, now its a challenge to make them as ridiculous as possible
Most Badass Character:
exact same answer as the favorite character question for this one. different characters are badass in their own ways for different reasons. but also meta and dedede again 🤦♂️
Most Epic Villain:
STAR DREAM. i went into robobot already knowing about the game and the plot twist for star dream but the reveal and the lead up is still so damn good.
Pairing I am not a fan of:
i dont super like saying, so turning this into another unpopular opinion question. i just remembered i had one that might actually be a hot take now. sometimes seeing all character dynamics reduced to traditional family relationships is tiring. like no i genuinely like it still but ah everyone being turned into straight parent/child relationships feels very strange to me. i dont really get it myself
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):
taranza. i went into triple deluxe from already being in the fandom for a bit, so only going off his fanon interpretation, and i was surprised at how little taranza really did anything and that he didnt even have much dialogue. underwhelming, though thats prob my own fault, but i still feel like they couldve done more with him in that game. also in general hal, hal please let him move on oh my gosh
Favourite Friendship:
say it with me guys. fifth time. its meta and dedede. i am so sorry i am brainrotting over them so hard lmao BUT. despite my shipping bias i like their base friendship more than anything else. frankly, their relationship in general just feels more satisfying to me cause you know they had to go through so much bullshit and hating each others guts to get to that point. having to work to get to know someone you hate and get along with them cause the universe keeps putting you in situations that force you into it, then finding out you have more in common than you think >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MMMMMMMMM
Character I most identify with:
prob my interp of dark meta. chill but likes to mess with people and be a minor asshole cause its funny. not saying that i try to be an ass but also i would be the type of person to say hey. come here. lean in a bit. bitch. and then laugh myself to tears over it
Character I wish I could be:
........zan. for reasons stated in the last zan ask. i care her 🥺
#kirby#metadede#im tagging it as that purely cause of how much bias i showed here#whoopsie#asks#anonymous#dgp askgame#oh this question list was way longer than i thought#i feel like im walking out a different person than i came into it with#literally i looked at the first sent of my ask and barely remembered i wrote it

Kirby ramble incoming
They keep saying that King Dedede and Sectonia are supposed to be parallel characters. But I personally think Sectonia has more in common with Magolor than with Dedede. In fact, Magolor and Sectonia's stories are near identical: Magolor gets drunk with power because of an artifact (the Master Crown), wants to become the ultimate overlord, but ends up as the puppet of the artifact's true controller (DARKNESS). Sectonia gets drunk with power because of an artifact (the Dimension Mirror), wants to become the ultimate overlord, but ends up as the puppet of the artifact's true controller (Dark Meta Knight). And given how Kirby stops all four of them (Magolor, Sectonia, Dark Meta Knight and DARKNESS), the only difference I can find between Magolor's arc and Sectonia's arc is that, while Magolor survived his, Sectonia didn't survive hers... Which gives me the implication that Dark Meta Knight KILLED Sectonia when he realized she was losing, because if Sectonia lost, Dark Meta Knight lost to Kirby AGAIN, and he's one hell of a sore loser. Seriously, what did HAL think when they added Dark Meta Knight as an ally is Star Allies?
This also makes me think: What if Magolor was in Kirby Triple Deluxe? Would he have seen himself in Sectonia? If so, would he have managed to convince Sectonia to change her ways before it was too late?

I'm elaborating because yeah and I also strongly disagree with saying this applies to Magolor.
Magolor is both popular and hated because he's a betrayer character. He doesn't really have a stated tragic backstory, and within the series he isn't portrayed as anything other than a conniving liar. (Except for RTDLD, where he is in fact a sad little meow meow) What he did was pretty personal, but ultimately he didn't betray a family member or a best friend. Mostly just Kirby, who had been tricked before by Marx, so it's easy to take a "you should've seen this coming" angle (especially with how it's super obvious he's evil). Also compared to the other three, his actions don't have even a vaguely implied lasting impact on the setting or the characters. Also for a long time we thought he straight up died and then got better. Also Also he's easy to make fun of.
Important thing I forgot to mention for magolor people who love him either love the fact that he's evil and run with that, or they want to fix him/make him good which. I don't know how to elaborate on that but you know what I mean. We've all seen those people.
The mage sisters did try to destroy the universe which yeah yikes, but thats honestly really impersonal. They didn't even know Popstar, Kirby, or any of the beloved characters existed before they fought for the first time. A couple of things make them much easier to like: All three of them died, or came close to dying. They're in a cult, indoctrinated after being revived/saved by the cult leader. They didn't directly hurt anyone in the cast or destroy anything near and dear to the players. They didn't possess anyone directly, the dark hearts did, and they're out collecting them. While this is their fault it's not as personal. They have sisterly bonds which are shown in game (Flamberge and Francisca, specifically). Zan was later tossed aside by Hyness.
During Triple Deluxe Taranza is driven by the romantic love of his best friend, and he also caused the downfall of said friend unintentionally. (Also for this specifically, the fandom often blames the Dimensional Mirror and DMK rather than his ignorance in stealing the mirror.) Taranza captures Dedede and puppets him around, but it's sort of like 'Whats new' since he does this to Dedede. By the end of the game Taranza and Dedede aren't too opposed to each other, either, so it's just sort of shrugged off. Sectonia also betrays him after he's been nothing short of loyal to her. Important to note Taranza is also more likeable because he's a good punching bag and fun to make the butt of jokes.
However while Susie captures Meta Knight, she also mechanizes him, but it's way different this time. For one, it's Meta Knight, a character who honestly doesn't get fucked with that often by the series. He's also THE fan favorite. Also being turned into a robot is far more invasive than just getting possessed. Even though he just sort of walks it off in the series she never is shown to have made up in any way.
Haltmann doesn't ever really betray Susie intentionally, her being lost in another dimension was a tragedy, and he didn't intentionally forget her. In fact Susie is the one to technically betray him even though it backfires since she didn't want him dead, only wanting to "Teach him a lesson." Unlike with the Mage Sisters, Susie chose to be evil to be with her father, and she does like being evil. (Taranza did the same, but he really didn't go as far as Susie did.)
She is also a likeable character because she has faced a lot of tragedy. Surviving Another Dimension as a child due to an accident, having her father forget her, etc. Which does make her pretty popular, but often people who expand on this sort of forget what she did or brush it off like they would do with Taranza. But you can do this with Taranza because HAL does the same, casting him in a very positive (if pitiable) light. I mean literally one of his idle animations in SA is him crying ok.
Susie remains cast in a morally gray light within the series. Those who focus on her more positive traits lose sight of the dark, and those who focus far too much on her villainous acts can't see the light of her reasoning. HAL doesn't show much of an emotional side to her after Robobot, and she shows no remorse for her actions during the game in SA. Also it's very hard for us, as people, to balance the idea that she has had bad things happen to her and she's done bad things. Which often ends in us either perceiving her as pure evil or as "she's so sad" since it's easier than mentally balancing the fact that she is both. She's both a sad character but she's also done undeniably very fucked up things. ALSO when it comes to joking about her it's way funnier to make fun of her for being evil than being a sad little meow meow.
TLDR: Magolor is a betrayer character, Taranza is sad and pathetic and HAL treats him as such, the Mage Sisters have eachother and do very impersonal things which make them seem less evil. Susie isn't given any of these liberties and she's morally gray, but it's easier to say she's completely absolved by her past or she's pure evil than trying to balance those two things out.
Who is the most controversial Kirby character and why is it Susie?

RANK EVERY KIRBY GAME YOU'VE PLAYED
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE LETS GOOOOOO
Of course it'll be based on personal enjoyment. But let's be honest, it's Kirby, all of these games are good one way or another so let get it
# 14 Kirby's Avalanche
I'm estupid and lost at whispy woods level, which is like, the 2nd level overall. So I'm bitter and put it this low, graphics and audio are super cute tho <3
#13 Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
This was a game I actually got bored with. I'm not really a fan of the whole ball and stylus mechanics (probably cause I'm not good with them lmao). I would be a liar if I didn't say it was one of the more if not the best in game design, with every game piece being of real clay and scanned into the software. Truly amazing, but poor execution in the game itself.
#12 Kirby And the Crystal Shards
So cute and round. I like the idea of combining copy abilities and the direction of art this game had. Only complaint is having to go back and forth for puzzles and certain abilities eeeee
#11 Kirby and the Forgotten Land
A different direction compared to the other Kirby games and I love and hate it for that. A very fun game with the new direction and the mini games and ability upgrades are so cute! My gripes really are just, with all the creative ingenuity in HAL, you really went for the post apocalypse earth as the stages? And
Uh
I'm not the biggest fan of the beast packs designs
Or King Dededes Design
...
...
...
Or Efflin
Please don't hate me
Also I hate saving the waddle dees cause it means I cannot leave a single one behind!! I have to save them all and it feels more like a must than an option because I do not want to leave them there so sad!!!
#10 Kirby Star Allies
Alright I know, I KNOW, putting this above Forgotten Land?? How could I do such a thing??
And your probably right but its my list lmao
If Kirby had a season finale this would be it. A really fun game where you can get all of kirbys friends and fend off enemies and defeat God with the power of love. The slight insight on Void Termina is interesting, but if its never expanded upon again then I dont think there's much of a loss. But like everyone and their mama said, it really is too easy, I finished the game with like 75 lives to spare lmao.
#9 Kirbys Adventure
I recently played and finished it and I can say I see why it was played alot. Very basic yeah but a really fun and easy game for everyone to play and I appreciate it for that!
#8 Kirby Triple Deluxe
My first Kirby game! Really caught my eye with the story of Taranza and Sectonia (so sad ;-;) and Kirby turning into a freaking rainbow that swallows things 100× their size is so funny to me. But this game also has my least favorite Dedede design, he looks
Rather odd...
#7 Kirby Planet Robobot
Objectively the best Kirby Game Overall. Really solid story and the twist of technology on a planet that thrives on its natural state, really creative. I do love anti capitalist and Susie's marxism lmao.
#6 Kirby Fighters 2
Let's go gay people, really establishes the relationship Meta Knight and King Dedede have well, but thats about all it does. Game play is basic but fun with a player 2. Also you can play as gooey and I love gooey gooey my beloved
#5 Kirby Super Star Ultra
I LOVE THIS GAME its like making interactive episodes of a Kirby show and their so fun. I especially love gourmet race and Dyna Blade they're so fun!
I really hate Great Cave Escape tho
#4 Kirby Squeak Squad
Awesome game. Really brings home the idea that Kirby will kill God for cake and I think that's so funny. Also Daroach and his thieves are really good antagonists and super fun.
#3 Kirbys Epic Yarn
So cute, so wholesome. Not much to say except I love its vibe so much and its so cozy and beautiful and alsjwkeksjsnksdkkssk
#2 Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland
Does everything the original did and improves upon it. I love the art and aesthetic so much, as well as the gameplay as its super easy and engaging. It would be my favorite overall if not for-
#1 KIRBY RETURN TO DREAMLAND!!!
Objectively one of the best games. You play as Kirby plus all of their friends and explore through Dreamland while trying to help a two timing bitch, to which you later beat the shit out of lmao. Plus the mini games and abilities that are introduced, really astounding for the first Kirby game that establish the style for games to come!!!
So there's my list! (Emphasis on MY list)
Sorry its so long I just really love this franchise. Ball guys being ball guys heehee

What if Kirby had a traditional fighting game?
Listen, I know I should’ve done more “FNF fighting game characters” but i doubt anyone cared for that, and even then I lost a bit of interest, so if you actually cared sorry about that, you can still come up with whatever you want for the characters I didn’t talk about!
That being said, I think all Kirby fans here know Kirby Fighters 2. Personally speaking most of it was just the same as Kirby Fighters Deluxe BUT there were five playable Dream Friends. FIVE. Priority to the Copy Abilities a bit too high, isn’t it HAL? Sometimes it feels a bit barebones if you ask me. So I’m here to discuss what would a non-platform Kirby fighting game be.
THE GAMEPLAY
It’s the same as any basic fighting game, there isn’t really that much that the Kirby franchise can offer to make the genre a bit more varied, and that’s mostly due to the fact that Kirby makes friends wherever he goes and combat is pretty much straightforward in these platforming games, the crazy stuff comes from learning specific moves with each copy ability/character in the games and that’s also true for this game.
THE PLOT
I have quite a few ideas for how this can go:
-It’s a “what if” re-telling of Kirby Star Allies where Hyness’ ritual (somehow) also causes space-time rifts across the entire universe to be generated, pulling in Kirby villains from previous games but also allies, which would ALSO explain Dream Friends in the game’s canon a bit more properly.
-It happens in an AU. Plot would basically be Kirby Battle Royale’s but instead of shooting a loadshit of Kirbies onto Kirby, Dedede would just call upon all of their friends to fight for that cake before things escalate and Dedede loses control of the tournament to greater evils, forcing him to work with Kirby to stop the threat, be it old or new.
-Another AU idea but this time it’s original/based on Milky Way Wishes. Galactic NOVA appears every thousand years above Pop Star’s skies, and everyone tries to fight for the right to get the wish. Villain wouldn’t necessarily be ONLY Marx though, most of the Kirby villains could easily win against him if they get to NOVA and get their wish granted. Which means yes, all plots happen at once and Kirby has to deal with everyone at once.
-The least interesting idea: it’s Kirby Fighters 2′s plot but without tag team duos and with all Kirbies replaced with the roster.
THE ROSTER
Now we’re about to have some fun.
RETURNING CHARACTERS: The Dream Friends (and Kirby, of course)
-First up, all Dream Friends are coming back. You don’t even need to change their movesets that much, just add/tweak things, but just for funsies (and for a specific reason too) we’ll also give them specific copy abilities or more than one to categorize them.
-Kirby is the specific reason. He has the same moveset as his Smash Bros incarnation, although he incorporates more copy abilities (and also super powerful stuff like the Star Rod that he usually uses in endgame fights) in it now due to being a traditional fighting game. And yes, he still has his inhale. Using it will have the inhale be replaced by another move in-game, the closest one to a “neutral special” in the opponent’s arsenal. His copy ability is therefore, Smash Bros. And since the game has multiple super moves, we can make his gimmicks from the Kumazaki games the super moves: his level 1 would be a random Super Copy Ability from Return to Dreamland (cutscene is random everytime but damage is always the same), his level 2 would be using the Robobot Armor to stomp foes around, ending with a giant ground pound/fist to the ground and his level 3 is Hypernova Kirby due to the inhale being one of his most unique properties.
-Meta Knight and Dedede will also have heavy Smash influences but they’ll also use techniques from most of their boss fights, such as Meta Knight splitting himself in four clones temporarily for an attack or Dedede actually pulling out an axe instead of his hammer for some attacks based on his Triple Deluxe incarnation. Their copy abilities would formally be Sword and Hammer but with heavy Smash Bros inspiration. Meta can also call in for the Meta Knights to help him in one of his unique super moves. They’d all be there except for Sailor Dee and Captain Vul (one’s an alternate costume and the other is never seen outside of dialogue text).
-Bandana Waddle Dee’s moveset incorporates both Spear and Parasol, but due to the Spear being his most used tool he’ll be categorized with that.
-Marx is the first character with Unique as its own copy ability due to his arsenal being entirely based on his boss fight. Inhaling Unique characters doesn’t always allow Kirby to get copy abilities but when it happens he usually has their most basic move replacing the inhale. Gooey is in the same situation, but i have no idea what would Kirby get from him as an ability since he’s technically player 2 in the Dark Matter trilogy’s first 2 games. Rick, Kine and Coo would technically be categorized as Unique only because they have Fire, Water and Wind in their moveset. You could say they’d be stance characters while Marx is a zoner and Gooey a rushdown character.
-Dark Meta Knight is categorized as Mirror, and Adeleine (with Ribbon as an assist of course) is Artist. Daroach would be Animal, which is missing since its debut in Squeak Squad, as far as I can remember, but he naturally still retains his moveset of calling the Squeaks to help him.
-It’s pretty easy to categorize Magolor as ESP, and Taranza as Spider, while I have no idea what would Susie’s ability be even. Spark? She is mostly around in the Robobot Armor to be fair. The Three Mage-Sisters would be treated equally to the Animal Friends
THE NEWCOMERS
-NAGO, CHUCHU & PITCH: The other set of Animal Friends. I theorize a moveset revolving around the Cleaning ability like in Star Allies would be easy to make, although it can also incorporate moves from other abilities that have been in Dream Land 3.
-CHEF KAWASAKI: I think it’s safe to say this one is pretty easy to do just like the returning Dream Friends. He has a unique moveset in comparison to Chef Kirby that also has him use Kirby’s Final Smash from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
-LOLOLO & LALALA: Aside from pushing boxes and Gordos they can be the Ice Climbers of the game, and most importantly one of their super moves could have them fuse into their original form in the anime to reference that further.
-SHADOW KIRBY: A clone (in terms of moveset) for Kirby that lacks the inhale ability and has more attacks based on his appearances in Amazing Mirror (and also on Kirby’s unique ability to split in four in these games) and the Kirby Fighters spinoffs. Simple as it is.
-THE MIDBOSSES: They all play the same as their fights too, so doing a paragraph for each of them would be a bit redundant. I chose to add minibosses in because most of them are pretty iconic among Kirby enemies and some of them are also technically friends of Kirby’s. I picked Bonkers (whose coconut throwing and some special moves could make him different enough from Dedede if you ask me), Mr. Frosty (also because we don’t have an Ice-based character in the game), Buggzy (which I can see being the ultimate grappler), King Doo (because we don’t actually have a Waddle Doo in the roster and he’s technically not only their king but also the most unique of them) and Grand Wheelie (look, I like Wheel as an ability ok? it’s like playing as Sonic in a Kirby game)
-KNUCKLE JOE: Taking stuff from both his Star Allies moveset and his Assist Trophy from Ultimate PLUS a few references to the anime and you have the ultimate Shoto character in the Kirby franchise. Ryu mains, this is the character for you.
-GIM: Look, my three favorite abilities are Yo-Yo, Wheel and ESP, in no particular order, so I HAD to include him and the Grand Wheelie. Magolor covers for ESP enough. This lil fella looks more unique than most of the generic Kirby enemies and even among the copy ability ones he’s always been a bit of an oddball due to being a robot. The trickshots you can do with this copy ability make Gim perfect to camp, so he’d be a pretty good zoner as well.
-TAC: He’s been a Helper in Super Star where he also has an unique moveset. Expanding on it and on Tac being generally a copy ability thief could mean more copy abilities can be implemented in a moveset, probably even more than what Kirby can do. Also his design just screams potential to me.
DLC FIGHTERS
WAVE 1: Spinoff Dream Friends
Cuz these guys have been done dirty by Star Allies’ devs. Elline would be the other Artist character in the game and call for Claycia’s assistance in specific attacks. Prince Fluff would play mostly just like Kirby himself did in Kirby’s Epic Yarn and implement specific transformations in some attacks, ending with the tank one from the end of that game. Then we have Gryll. If you know how to make a Tetris/Puyo Puyo based character in a fighting game then good for you, I absolutely don’t know how. What I KNOW however is that she has a float like Peach’s in Smash Bros and I-No’s in Guilty Gear.
WAVE 2: Dream Villains
These guys would all play exactly like their boss fights. Hyness and Sectonia would remain mostly unchanged while Haltmann in terms of moveset is the same as Susie, just without every non-Robobot move that she has.
WAVE 3: Clash of Blades
THAT’S RIGHT, IT’S ALL ANIME SWORDFIGHTERS. They all pull from their boss fights, but Morpho Knight is gonna be a bit more unique compared to Galacta, Dark Meta and Meta Knight, having in the swordfighter equivalent of Akuma’s Raging Demon. Meanwhile, Dark Matter Swordsman and Galacta Knight are completely faithful to the source material, but they’d probably be a bit nerfed due to Galacta’s universe-breaking powers. (you can bet that if we get the remaining legendary heroes who sealed Void Termina in future games they’d be their own separate Wave 5 DLC pack)
WAVE 4: Revival of Old Faces
Nightmare and Drawcia are back and they’re here to stay! Their movesets don’t really need that much changes. Void however is an entirely different beast. He’d be a mix of Kirby, both Zero incarnations and Dark Matter. His design wouldn’t just be giant orb that switches between Kirby and Dark Matter faces, he’d be Kirby-sized and with legs and stubby lil arms like the pink puffball. And you can bet your ass he’d be broken as fuck.
SKINS
If a character’s appearance changed across the series’ history (like Marx Soul, Girl Blob Gooey, Shoppe Magolor, Mecha Knight, Dark Taranza/Taranza in the Super Kirby Clash games, Masked/Shadow Dedede, Anime!Knuckle Joe, Parallel/Pres. Parallel Susie, EX versions and so on) they’d just be an alternate skin/palette swap for the specific character. Multiple characters of the same species with little changes (like a normal Waddle Dee or Sailor Dee, or literally all Kirby colors including Keeby) are the same. I’m also debating on how Dark Mind would be a skin for Nightmare or if there’d be a skin inspired by him for the Dark Matter Swordsman. Zero and Zero Two would probably be turned into palette swaps/outfits for Void (imagine a white Kirby cosplaying as Zero Two that’d be so cute lol).
ATTACKING ASSIST CHARACTERS
Characters who appear in other characters’ attacks. Like the aforementioned Squeaks, Meta Knights and Claycia. Normal Dark Matter would appear in DM Swordsman’s attacks in some capacity outside of the eye laser and the Gordo Throw would return from Dedede’s previous Smash incarnations alongside the Waddle Dee Throw from Brawl. And naturally Magolor can call in the Lor Starcutter for one of his super moves. I am actually considering giving Tac the ability to throw random items/enemies at opponents, with the Bomber being one of these. It’d be a very RNG attack with the Bomber being the best outcome, blowing on the opponent’s face.
HELPERS
All characters in the game can be called on for an Helper attack, that can help you in some form against the opponent by either damaging or tampering with the opponent or by having you get healed or with some buff. Outside from the playable roster enemies that give you copy abilities would also be Helpers, but the specific ones I’m not so sure on.
BOSSES
Characters you can fight in Arcade mode, in Story mode or in a specific Boss mode. There’d also be a Ganon’s Fury (Hyrule Warriors) inspired mode where you’d play as the bosses pitting them against each other. I specifically picked Dyna Blade, Whispy Woods, Landia, Star Dream, Kracko, Great Edge, Pyribbit, Ice Dragon, Fire Lion, Masher, Grand Mam, Metal General, Kibble Blade and Pon & Con.
STAGES
There’d be quite a lot of stages, but I haven’t thought out specific ones except for Green Greens, Butter Building, a Ripple Star stage, one for Dedede’s castle with stage cameos by Tiff, Tuff and Escargoon from the anime and every final boss’s fighting arena.
THE MUSIC
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is gonna be nothing compared to this one. We’re getting all the important music from all pre-Kumazaki games, all music from Kumazaki games and spinoffs, and online arrangements with focus on orchestral (Desolo Zantas), metal (GaMetal, of course) and EDM (Acid Notation, Qumu and various others), including stuff like Itoki Hana’s vocal arrangements. We’re going all out on this one.
Aaaaand that’s it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Stay hydrated.

Reasons why I believe Bandana Waddle Dee will (and should) be in Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Okay so for anyone uninformed, this is Bandana Waddle Dee and I believe he has a huge chance of making it into Super Smash Bros Ultimate as hopefully a playable character or as an assist trophy. I will be listing a bunch of reasons as to why I believe this Good Boi has a great chance of making it into smash.
Reason #1: Lack of Representation
Here we can see the top 20 best selling Nintendo Franchises. If we look at the top 10 franchises, we can see that most of these series have lots of representation (Mario, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda) or have one to no fighters due to a fighter encapsulating what that series is about (Animal Crossing, Brain Age, Game & Watch). The only 2 series that suffer from this regard are Kirby and Donkey Kong. It’s very likely we will get King K Rool and Dixie Kong as playable characters as Sakuari seems to be catering to the fans. It would make sense that Kirby should also receive some new fighters as Kirby has evolved into one of Nintendo’s more popular franchises as of recently.
Reasons #2: Kirby Star Allies/Kirby Return to Dreamland
One of the problems with Kirby as a franchise is that coming up with characters for Smash is difficult. Mostly because 1.) Kirby can most likely due what this character can do as well and 2.) Most potential characters for Smash from Kirby are villains who come and go. Bandana Waddle Dee is different because 1.) He has been shown to be able to wield more than just a spear but also a parasol too and 2.) He (and Galacta Knight) are the only characters who consistently show up in Mainstream Kirby Game with exception of Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight. No only that, but Kirby as a franchise changed dramatically when Super Star Ultra came out as every mainline game afterwards followed and improved the Super Star Ultra formula. Super Star Ultra also gave us Bandana Waddle Dee’s first true prominent role as Dedede’s most loyal servant. He has shown up in every mainline game ever since Super Star Ultra and even has bigger roles in some spinoffs than Meta Knight and Dedede (Team Clash Deluxe, Rainbow Curse, Battle Royale). He was even playable in Return to Dreamland as the last canonical character for multiplayer (players get the option to play a different colored Kirby or a storyline character). He’s recently been playable and is unique for being the only character able to wield the spear. To put it simply, He represents the new formula of Kirby, A formula that has been pushing sales and has increased the popularity of the Kirby Franchise.
Reason #3: Sakuari
Sakuari is an amazing lead developer and he tends to favor his own work. It’s mostly why we got Dark Pit in Smash 4. Bandana Waddle Dee is technically his creation, why not add this good boi in. Also Star Allies mentions he deserves a prize and he hasn’t receive it. Maybe his prize is to fight in Smash. I could find it likely that this is the case as Sakuari use to work for HAL so it’s possibly HAL slipped in a hint that Bandana Boi is gonna be in smash.
Reason #4: Popularity
When selecting a character, Sakuari tends to choose characters who are popular with fans. This game is a lot of fan service with the inclusion of Ridley, Inkling and other characters. Bandana Waddle Dee was among one of the top picks for the Smash 4 Ballots in Japan. Another huge reason of popularity is Waddle Dees. Waddle Dees are just as important to the Kirby as Kirby. So much so that there is just as much merchandise on Waddle Dees as there are Kirby. They have been in every Kirby Game, UNLIKE Dedede and Meta Knight. Bandana Waddle Dee is usually seen as the leader/representative of the Waddle Dees.
Reason #5: Moveset
Movesets are always tricky for new characters but Kirby characters are different. Smash was based on Kirby which is nice since that allows Kirby and Smash to flow very easily. Star Allies and Return to Dreamland have already given us a good template for Bandana Waddle Dee’s Moveset. However, an interesting note about Kirby Characters is how they blend multiple abilities into their moveset. For example, Kirby has cutter, fighter, stone, hammer, ect. Meta Knight represents Sword, Wing, Tornado, Ninja, Suplex and Master (from Amazing Mirror) and Dedede represents Hammer, Throw, High-Jump and Suplex. Bandana Waddle Dee should also pull from other abilities. For example, he could use spear for his specials, his back air is the beam aerial move from kirby games. His throws are all parasol throws. He could even use clean/stick to represent star allies and/or use elementals for his attacks. He has a suprising amount of final smashes to choose from. Since Bandana Waddle Dee is the representative of both the helpers and waddle dees, it would be fitting if he used the star sparkler from star allies. He could use the Flare Beam from Return to Dreamland. He could even borrow Dedede’s Old Final Smash as his own. But personally the new final smashes are quick and powerful and the only fitting final smash would be...
(real talk: Bandana waddle dee punching his opponents with the force to potentially crack popstar, an earth sized planet, in half is pretty metal and awesome and would be a great way to remind people of his debut).
In short, Bandana Waddle Dee would be easy to create a fun and unique moveset and would make him the first spear user in smash.
Reason #6: The King Himself
Please Watch This Clip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peex1AJLrko
That is Dedede’s new Final Smash. It’s awesome but what is it? That is Masked Dedede and it has lately appeared in many Kirby games as a more challenging fight to the regular Dedede Fight. Well His Final Smash actually references the debut of Masked Dedede as the arena is the same as the one in Revenge of the King with the Fence and His Icon on the floor. No other Masked Dedede Fight has the fence and boxing ring so it must be based on the one from Super Star Ultra.
Now Sakuari is putting insane amounts of Detail into this new smash game. And we don’t see any audience in Dedede’s Final Smash. If you look, you may notice Bandana Boi in the Audience of the original fight. How can Sakuari forget such an important detail.
There’s more with Dedede though. For example, Dedede’s inclusion was a tricky one. Sakuari has stated that he always wanted Dedede in the game ever since 64 but only was able to in Brawl. Sakuari shows humility by not trying to give us too much Kirby in Smash despite Kirby being a major character to the series. This is further backed up by how Kirby was nerfed from 64 to Melee, showing that Sakuari doesn’t want people to believe he loves his franchise too much. We got Dedede and Meta Knight in Brawl as they gave the Kirby Franchise some new hope, and problems. Meta Knight and Dedede had to be heavily nerfed as they were top threats in Brawl. There is a pattern here. Kirby characters are strong, so the next game they get nerfed and the focus shifts away. Then the next game introduces new kirby characters and the cycle continues. Smash 4 did not focus on the kirby franchise too much. So that could mean the inclusion of a new character?
One last reason associating to Dedede is this stage.
This is Fountain of Dreams. One of the most gorgeous stages in all of Smash Bros History. It is also one of the most competitive as it is 1 of 6 stages used in Melee Singles. It is the home and origin of the “My B”. Why is this important. This game is a game catering to the fans, casual and competitive. This stage is associated with Kirby and Dedede’s Battle in Nightmare in Dreamland as this was a true fight for the protection of Dreamland; this is one of the most serious fights between Kirby and Dedede. Despite all of this, it has NOT been revealed Smash Ultimate yet. And to make matters worse, almost every other Kirby stage (with the exception of 3DS’s Dreamland) has been announced so far.
Why wouldn’t they announce. Either 1.) It wasn’t made for this game which I find unlikely because it is a fan favorite both competitively and casually or 2.) they will reveal it with Bandana Waddle Dee. Think about it, Bandana Waddle Dee is King Dedede’s Loyal Servant but he’s also Kirby’s Best Friend. What better way to reveal Bandana Waddle Dee then to have Dedede and Kirby Fight and him to break up the fighting and be revealed?
Reason #7: Datamine
Last major reason I can think of (at the moment). But a datamine was shown before Smash Bros Ultimate at E3 for Yoshi’s Wooly World on the 3DS about amiibos. Nothing major; however, the only changes were to the Daisy costume was changed for multiple amiibos and Waddle Dee? What other games would Waddle Dee come from other than Smash Bros?
Conclusion: I want the Bandana Boi in and with all this evidence, I’m still unsure because Sakurai is unpredictable but we shall see, I’m going to still cross my fingers thou.

What are a few theories you have to say in regards to the Mirror World?
[Edit: Wow, this ask was well timed! Happy KatAM release!]
M-Mirror World... :shivers: ... I mean, n-no! Why would I be scared talk about the mirror world?! That's r-ridiculous! :knows that everyone else already has much better mirror HC than me:
Err, in truth though, I do get a little nervous when asked about the mirror world because I really never paid that much attention to it at the time?! It just seemed like a cutesy gimmick for a game and I guess I didn't see the massive potential many other fans saw in it.
When it showed up again in TDX, I was like "Ohhhh! ...Huh." and when DMK returned for Star Allies, I was like "...I guess we're sticking with this now?!" (Speaking of, I was really ambivalent on DMK at the time but have since adopted the edgy boy as one of my blorbos mostly because everyone else seems to kind of hate him/have nothing interesting for him except to have him swear even more than MK -purportedly does? And well, Dess loves an underdog!)
Anyway, I've said it once and I'll say it again (and again and again until I finally finish drawing "Through a Mirror Darkly", the prequel to "Unspoken") I think Dark Meta Knight was a double agent...!
I think he was "working" for Dark Mind only to the degree necessary to overthrow him. Why else would he split Kirby into four equally powerful selves when Necrodeus proved it was indeed possible to simply weaken the powerful, pink, and puffy?! Because come on, he's Meta Knight's shadow given form! Why does that instantly mean he has to be significantly dumber than Meta Knight?! Why can't he be as clever and farsighted as the champion fighter?
Remember how Meta is very subtly implied to have trained Kirby to face off against Nightmare during Adventure? I hold that DMK was doing the same thing, having given up on training his verse's own Kirby. DMK being a secret dark hero would certainly make sense as to why Kirby handily invites him to join the hero party in Star Allies!
(As for why he attacks Dedede out of nowhere, well, I believe he probably has... complex feelings regarding his own Dedede(1))
Err, sorry, I know this wasn't specifically about DMK... Let's talk about the Mirror World in general! It's very... hmm. It's very...unknown?
Trying to piece together (haha...) the mirror world based on the information we have now feels like trying to count sands of grain in a jar from a distance. Or trying to correctly guess the Ancient's backstory as revealed in Star Allies using only what we know in RtDL.
I think, by the time Kumazaki and the team are ready to return to it, we're going to be pretty shocked by what we find out! But as long as we're not interested in correctly guessing something (...that HAL themselves probably don't know EVERYTHING about) but simply want to bandy ideas back and forth about what we know...
I myself am most interested in a) it's timeline b) the logic behind Mirror World residents c) how/if does it stand on it's own?
If the Dimension Mirror is an Ancient Artifact, and it has all the signs of one, so I don't see any reason it shouldn't be (I even speculated once the mirror's wings could be based on Elfy) then it is OLD. Pre-fall of Halcandra old. In which case, the Mirror Dimension should be at least that old, right? But what even IS "the mirror dimension?"
Because Amaz(e)ing Mirror showed us a series of multiple interconnected worlds, linked by much smaller mirrors. And let's think about the name for a second: "The Dimension Mirror." Why would the Ancients create something that just makes ONE dimension? And the dimension in question is one where everything kinda sucks??? That... doesn't make any logical sense.
I think the original purpose behind the creation of the Dimension Mirror was to, quite simply, make a portal. The Mirror could have been the predecessor to the Lor Starcutter even! A kind of "stargate." Using it, you can see into MULTIPLE different dimensions, and potentially travel to the ones you wish to using smaller gate like mirrors scattered all over the place. (2)
But, like everything they built, the Dimension Mirror was a two-edged sword. And there came si~de effe~cts! We generally know that the Mirror Residents are like "worse" version of the people we've seen so far. So just imagine that everyone who traveled through the Dimension Mirror to get to some other dimension... left a copy of themselves behind? Similar to one of the more grisly theories on how matter transportation might be possible: that the best you could do would be to perfectly clone/replicate someone in a different position, all their memories intact, while quietly destroying the original as they :cough: teleport. BAM! "You" have now been transported!
With that in mind, the more it is used, the more copies are created, and thus... the birth of the Mirror World? It's certainly possible!
Why are they "evil" though? Well... that could be the "side effect" of wicked power developed off of the suffering of baby chinchillas or it could be that they aren't really all that "evil" to begin with.
Again, I argue that Dark Meta Knight is not really evil Meta Knight at all. (You can write the "corruption theory" for the purposes of fanfic or fan ideas or whatever but I WILL tear my hair out if you try to convince me/you believe it 100% based on evidence in game.) I think Dark Meta Knight is simply Meta Knight unleashed.
Shadow Kirby was considered worthy of being the "hero" of the Mirror Dimension. Bloody King Dedede is kind of a jerk but so was regular Dedede in the past. Plus, going by the stomach in the mouth thing, King Bloody seems to still be possessed by Dark Matter so we can't really know what he's like on a good day!
And then there are critters like King Golem, who is almost unmistakably Whispy Woods just built out of bricks and stone.
So, Mirror Residents simply misunderstood? I'd wager so.
But where is it and why does it persist? Those are all good questions that I don't have the answer to. I might have theories down the line... Are there mirror versions of the rest of the Star Allies? I suppose there could be, if any of them hopped through the mirror/got a really close look at it at any point! Do the people created by the Dimension Mirror truly "exist independently" at this point?
I... I don't know. To be honest, I think one really just has to work with the story that is the most interesting to them. Like... going by my theory above, the first Mirror Dream Lander would be DMK, the second would be Shadow Kirby, and the third would be Bloody Dedede, right? Or... is it?
In Dess's Unspoken-verse, Shadow Dedede has been around long before the days of Triple Deluxe and even before Amazing Mirror began. (Although that does make sense, given the Dark Matter thing would place his existence around at least Dream Land 2) So... Did King Dedede see the mirror BEFORE Triple Deluxe or are there Mirror versions of everyone already? Honestly, because the mirror seems positioned in the sky over Popstar, you could say that anyone who's taken a walk on a sunny day has a mirror duplicate out there!
But Magolor implied on Twitter he wouldn't have a mirror duplicate?! Is he just making a joke about his own wickedness/two-facedness? Did HE actually come from the mirror dimension originally or did he already kill (?!) his own mirror counterpart?!
TLDR, I have NO idea. But I think that until HAL comes back with more info N number of years down the line, it's fine to engage in writing whatever mirror HC suit you and continue to come up with fun and interesting mirror versions of the rest of the cast.
Speaking of, I still need to make my Mirror Marx + Magolor...
...
PS: Oh yeah, and are they all MADE of mirrors?! DMK sure seems to be but honestly, what does that even mean for them?! And how was he permanently scarred? Did the piece of mirror that got broken off when Meta Knight attacked him become lost sometime between that and the end of his fight with the Kirbys?!
...Mysteries...
-
(1) The way I ship Meta Knight x Dedede - when I ship it - is entirely under the table. No hugs, no kisses, no confessions, no ceremonies. They don't even admit to "loving" each other in that way. They are just "very important" (tm) to each other. Yadda-yadda-sworn-partners-yadda. But, because I'm me and I enthusiastically love tragedy, I like to imagine that Shadow Dedede and Dark Meta Knight were in love in exactly the way Meta Knight and Dedede weren't.
Keyword "were." Also "tragedy." You can figure out the rest I'm sure. ^_-
(2) So you notice how those portal mirror things kinda sorta vaguely resemble the goal doors? What are the chances that eventually, the Ancients DID figure out portal technology w/o evil twin side-effects and Popstar's goal doors are exactly that?!
#Kirby#Kirby series#Dark Meta Knight#Shadow Dedede#Mirror World Kirby#ShadowDedeDMK mention#H-how do you even that pairing name??

Kirby’s Adventure Review
When Kirby’s Dream Land first came out in Japan, It was a success. Selling over 200,000 units in it’s first 14 days. Because of this, HAL pushed out a sequel under a year later for the Famicom titled “Kirby of the Stars: The Story of the Fountain of Dreams”, Or as we know it, Kirby’s Adventure.
THE STORY
Kirby (being Kirby) was taking a nap one day, However he didn’t have any dreams! Oh Noes! Kirby immediately knows that something is wrong and heads straight for the Fountain of Dreams, A magical fountain that along with the Star Rod, Gives dreams to all the people of Dream Land. Wouldn't you know, King Dedede broke the Star Rod, Gave 6 pieces of it to his friends and worst of all, Was bathing in the Fountain of Dreams! Kirby proceeds to travel all across the land to reclaim the pieces of the Star Rod and bring dreams back to the people.
THE GRAPHICS
Being released late in the NES' lifespan, Kirby's Adventure takes full advantage of the hardware. Pushing the limits and somehow making it look vibrant and varied for an 8-Bit system. One of the best looking games on the NES.
THE MUSIC
I praised the soundtrack for Kirby’s Dream Land but this OST just blows it out of the water. Having nearly twice the amount of tracks, Taking full advantage of the NES’ soundchip and just being really, really good has made this one of my favorite NES OST’S. It also introduced my favorite Kirby level theme, Forest Trail, So that’s a major plus.
THE GAME
Being a sequel, Kirby’s Adventure takes the same basic formula of the original but expands on it. Kirby can still Float ‘N Suck but he can also slide, which can be used to destroy blocks and kill enemies much quicker, and use his brand new Copy Ability by sucking up certain enemies and crouching. Kirby’s newfound power enables him to use his enemies’ abilities against them, From spitting fire from his mouth to becoming a UFO, This gimmick has become a staple in the franchise and i can’t get enough of it.
Sliding and Copying aren’t the only staples this game introduced however, Sub-games, Goal Games and The Meta-Knights all first appeared in this game. Sub-games are incredibly short games found within the hub worlds, Most of them only exist as way to get more extra lives. The goal game is also like that, At the end of each level you’ll play a mini-game where you can earn an extra life if you’re able to launch Kirby high enough.
The Meta-Knights are a group of Knights led by Meta Knight, Everyone's favorite cute edge-lord with a sword. In several levels Meta Knight will either help you by giving you an Invincible Candy or try to kill you by summoning the Meta-Knights and their many clones. At least he’s nice enough to give you a sword before you fight him.
The levels are fairly short but much longer than the first game. a majority of the levels have alternate pathways, which usually lead to extra lives and other goodies including switches. throughout the game there are multiple switches that open up different areas within the hub-world. You need to find every single switch if you want to get 100%.
Most of the bosses are really easy besides the final boss and Dedede himself. Dedede really needs to entrust those things with stronger people next time.
Kirby defeats Dedede and places the Star Rod back onto The Fountain of Dreams, Turns out, King Dedede broke the Star Rod and deactivated The Fountain so an evil entity known as Nightmare (A black ball with stars on it) wouldn’t be able to corrupt it and turn Dream Land into Nightmare Land (I tried), Nightmare is summoned and escapes, Dedede won’t have any of that so he sucks up Kirby and the Star Rod and shoots him towards Nightmare. Kirby and the black ball duke it out until the ball transforms and Nightmare’s true form is revealed, SPACE WALUIGI.
Seriously, Look at this guy. All he needs is a pointy mustache and it would be perfect.
So Kirby defeats Nightmare who explodes on the moon, Making it into a crescent. Kirby returns to Dream Land, Returns the Star Rod to the fountain, He and King Dedede put aside their differences and become friends and peace returns to Popstar.
But wait, There’s still a remake!
KIRBY: NIGHTMARE IN DREAM LAND
Released in 2002, Nightmare in Dream Land took the original game, Updated it and made it a much better game. The graphics are much improved, The soundtrack is better despite the low quality of the GBA soundchip, Every Sub-game was replaced, Some enemies and bosses were also replaced, The physics were improved, It’s just an all around better game. There’s also Meta Knightmare, A mode where you get to play through the entire game as Meta Knight. Seriously, Play this version if you can, It’s great.
THE VERDICT
Kirby’s Adventure is a great game even to this day. While it’s remake may be better, The original is still worth playing. Being one of the final games released for the NES, It sure was a great way to go out.
Next in the lineup is Kirby’s Dream Land 2 for the Game Boy. The introduction of the Animal Buddies and the start of the Dark Matter trilogy. See you then.

HAL Laboratory イシダHAL_Laboratory 08/09/2016 4:11 AM
Hi everyone, it took us a while to set up but now it's finally time to kick off the Kirby: Planet Robobot Ask-a-thon! And here to answer your questions is the man himself, Kirby: Planet Robobot's director Shinya Kumazaki!
クマザキ 08/09/2016 4:14 AM Hello! Shinya Kumazaki here. Honestly, I'm amazed at the tremendous number of questions we've received from Japan, the Americas and Europe. Naturally I can't answer them all, but I'm hoping I can give you at least some of the answers you're looking for. Mr Ishida, please fire away!
イシダ 08/09/2016 4:15 AM All right, let's get started. Here's the first question: How did you decide upon 'Kirby: Planet Robobot' for the game title?
クマザキ 08/09/2016 4:18 AM Initially, we'd planned to call it "Kirby: HAGANE" ("hagane" is Japanese for "steel"), but as Popstar would be populated by robots, we then leaned towards "Kirby: Robot Planet". As titles go, this was far too literal and lacked impact, so we changed it again to "Roborobo Planet". One last tweak and the result was "Planet Robobot", which is in keeping with the playfulness of the Kirby universe. The name for the "Robobot Armor" also came up around this time.
イシダ 08/09/2016 4:21 AM Interesting! I do think that "HAGANE" would have been perhaps a little too edgy for a Kirby game. Plus, I can see it being quite a difficult title to convey overseas. Now for the next question: What was it that inspired you to create this game, and how long did it take to produce it?
クマザキ 08/09/2016 4:23 AM Since we ended up developing two Kirby games in a row using the same hardware - the first being Kirby: Triple Deluxe - this time, we wanted to do a completely different take on the world. At the same time, we were also hoping to attract a new audience. We thought a mechanised world would do well, since then it would be the polar opposite to the previous game's warm skies and lush scenery. The concept for the Robobot Armor was then proposed as a means of performing new copy abilities unique to the mechanised world. Regarding the length of development, we worked on Planet Robobot in parallel with other titles such as Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, and it was completed in under two years.
イシダ 08/09/2016 4:24 AM When you were establishing this mechanised setting for the game world, how did the production team manage to strike a balance between the creative design and fun gameplay?
クマザキ 08/09/2016 4:26 AM At the start, we shared our game design plans with the whole team - these were vital to the game. I began by working out the story and setting in my head, conveyed my ideas to lead team members and then the staff got to work, flexing their creative muscles to generate text, rough sketches and other resources. We worked to mesh the design and gameplay only in the final stages of the development process, and things were all very hectic during this period. We would schedule meetings with the whole team to keep everyone on the same page and fully bring out the team's potential, and this helped to motivate everyone even more in the finishing stages.
イシダ 08/09/2016 4:27 AM It's so interesting to hear about the steps that led to the final product! I have to ask, was there a specific part of the creation process that you found especially challenging? And if you had the chance to redesign the whole game, would you want to improve any specific areas of it?
クマザキ 08/09/2016 4:29 AM We were instructed by our producer to avoid any situation that might remind players of Triple Deluxe and I think that although this was a great idea, it was a nightmare to put into practice. We had limited development time and still had to make use of the assets from the previous game. Because we were using Triple Deluxe's engine, a lot of the gameplay felt similar, so I was constantly fighting to preserve the Kirby series' distinctive feel and yet produce something fresh and new. There were, of course, many things that I would have liked to refine or improve, but rather than regret not being able to address them, I try to use those shortcomings as motivation to look to the future and help myself do a better job next time. It's a continuous process that never really ends.
イシダ 08/09/2016 4:29 AM In Planet Robobot, I got the impression that you included references to older Kirby games and tried to evoke the same feel as them. Are you quite fond of the earlier titles? Were there any parts of them that influenced the current title?
クマザキ 08/09/2016 4:31 AM I don't believe that Kirby would still be around if it weren't for the older series of games. Meta Knight and the Fountain of Dreams, debuting in Kirby's Adventure, returned in Kirby Super Star (known as Kirby's Fun Pak in Europe), and many of Kirby's friends and foes from Kirby's Dream Land 2 reprised their roles in Kirby's Dream Land 3. We're still continuing this trend of including characters and locations from past games. There's a huge amount of charm unique to Kirby games and we've got 24 years' worth of it to tap into. By incorporating some of that into Planet Robobot, we hope that newcomers to the Kirby series will be able to enjoy the more retro elements of the gameplay just as much as the newer ones. If that happens to spark their interest in the older titles too, we couldn't ask for more.
イシダ 08/09/2016 4:32 AM All right, one last question. I'm sure some of our readers are getting fed up with all the game development questions, so let's move on to a different category! We've been receiving questions from all over the world along the lines of "Is Susie Haltmann's real daughter?" and "Is Susie a clone or a robot?". Mr Kumazaki, would you mind clearing things up for us once and for all and telling us her identity?
クマザキ 08/09/2016 4:34 AM Allow me to explain: Susie is not a clone; she is Haltmann's real daughter. I'd had in mind two story paths - one in which you finish the game and the story concludes comfortably even without knowing Susie's identity, and one that reveals more answers after you sink a lot of time into the game. But in Planet Robobot, the story is designed with just a small twist to surprise you when you find out Susie's last name. I initially considered making it so that Haltmann, in his loneliness, created a robotic Susie who believed she was alive, but that idea was discarded to avoid overcomplicating the story. At the time, I also considered a scenario with one final twist, where you discover that Haltmann was actually a robot all along.
イシダ 08/09/2016 4:35 AM Wow! There you have it, fans - the definitive answer you've been waiting for! We've still got plenty of questions lined up for Mr Kumazaki, but I think we're going to call it a day here. Watch this space for round 2 of the Kirby: Planet Robobot Ask-a-thon!

Hey I Just Wrote Like 1000 Words On How The Kirby Franchise Has Changed From Its Early Days To Now Specifically Comparing Adventure And Robobot If U Wanna Read It Here U Go
Being among the last officially licensed titles for the Nintendo Entertainment System (defeated in its lateness only by Mega Man 6, Wario's Woods, and a handful of tie-in games), Kirby's Adventure came out in 1993 to truly push the dated little NES to its true potential. Featuring dozens of levels, well over 20 powerups in the form of copy abilities, a fairly unique albeit simple narrative, an overworld, autosave, and minigames, the humble 8-bit title had it all for the time and the hardware. While not the first game of its kin, that being Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy, Kirby's Adventure was the pink puffball's first step onto the console market and into the style of game it would go on to be – even over 20 years later.
As the second title in the Kirby series released for the Nintendo 3DS, Kirby Planet Robobot is currently the most recent installment in HAL Laboratories' now long-running Kirby franchise. The title itself has, naturally, progressed quite far from Adventure so long ago, yet still holds onto many principles used and even introduced by the title. For starters, Kirby's Adventure did start the trend of most Kirby games featuring a final boss which was wholly unique to that game – Nightmare for Adventure, President Max Profitt Haltmann for Robobot, relegating the original primary antagonist, King Dedede, to merely a boss to be fought along the way (due to a misunderstanding in Adventure and Haltmann's cloning of the portly penguin patriarch in Robobot). At the time of Adventure's release, this would differentiate it from other Nintendo series such as The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. which, at the time, had featured the same main antagonist since their inception (aside from Mario's own adventure into his “Dream Land” in the American Super Mario Bros. 2)
In another similar vain to Kirby's Adventure, and every “main” Kirby title featuring the ability to inhale ever since, Kirby Planet Robobot makes use of Kirby's ability to copy enemies – suck in a flame-spewing foe to gain the Fire ability yourself, and so on. Robobot even uses a similar number of abilities – 27 to Adventure's 25 – despite how many have been introduced over the years, likely for simplicity's sake. 12 abilities in Robobot have also been taken directly from that first appearance on the NES: Beam, Cutter, Fire, Ice, Hammer, Mike, Parasol, Spark, Stone, Sword, Wheel, and the elusive UFO. However, the abilities are also one of the largest differences between Robobot and Adventure – while in Adventure a simple press of a button would unleash Kirby's one and only attack (possibly a second if airborne), as of Robobot Kirby's abilities have been given a full moveset. With the Sword ability for instance, Kirby can perform his simple swing from the NES days or chain it into a triple combo, do a quick stabbing dash, a diving attack, and more. A Leaf shot can become a Leaf tornado or shield, a Beam can be charged for a longer-ranged, more powerful attack, and so on. Even multiple past abilities have since been combined where logically sensible, such as the NES title's Burning fireball attack being added to Fire, or the combination of Freeze and Ice.
Continuing with this theme of mixing up and adding to old abilities comes a new element to Robobot: the Robobot Armor. This armor is essentially a mech suit for Kirby which, while lacking his ability to fly continuously, retains his ability to copy foes' powers. However, the suit uses these abilities in vastly different ways to Kirby himself. While the puffball may swing a Sword, the suit spins gigantic sawblades. Where the little guy bursts around with a Jet for speedy attacks, the big guns become full-on jet engines propelling Kirby through a shoot-em-up stage, adding a new twist on each ability the suit is able to obtain, as well as how they're utilized in the stage.
The Robobot Armor also adds another interesting distinction between Adventure and Robobot – while in the former, the player is capable of flying over nearly everything that isn't a screen-locking boss, in Robobot, that ability is often restricted – if not by the armor's previously mentioned inability to fly (sans the Jet ability, of course), then by various items which must be carried by Kirby himself – long electrical rods which attack the background, remotes to control distant robots which follow your moves, batteries to power machines to open the way – all of these are examples of Robobot restricting the player's otherwise unlimited float in order to have areas of tighter - though still not exceedingly difficult – platforming that the Kirby series was lacking in in its early days, which can do wonders for keeping the player engaged as opposed to skipping levels so casually.
In regards to engaging the player, Robobot also has more to offer – aside from the main campaign the player is gifted Meta Knightmare Returns, in which they may play through the main campaign as Meta Knight, a character first introduced as a boss in Adventure, as well as the side modes Kirby 3D Rumble, a fully 3D puzzle game, The Arena, a boss gauntlet featuring genuine challenge from limited healing items, and Team Kirby Clash, a multiplayer RPG-style game. Compared to Adventure's short minigame interludes, Robobot's side modes add hours more content to the title, giving a player more variety to reach for than only the standard Kirby faire. While Adventure's minigames for bonus lives did provide a fun break from gameplay, in Robobot the concept of side games has been fully fleshed out into arguably their own experience.
At the end of the day, Kirby's fun, simple spirit hasn't changed much over the years. You still float, inhale, copy, and spit, and the games are still simple and easy, yet fun. The change comes in the detail – from the enhanced, much more fun and diverse copy abilities to diverse gameplay mid-stage thanks to aspects like the Robobot Armor and item-toting, to even diverse sub-games which are now strong enough to stand on their own as small titles themselves, the Kirby series has primarily changed in that it offers the player more. From more moves to play around with to just. more game for your cash, Kirby manages to hold onto its simplicity without letting that notion hold it back.
#long story short i love kirby its Good#tigeri's ramblings#kirby#kirby's adventure#kirby planet robobot
