Tell me your fave vaults

Okay, I somehow narrowed it down to a top five (honorable mentions are basically every single other vault) (except Vault 81) ( i wish the experiment actually happened and the overseer didnt shut it down i wanted the psychological horror :/ )

Vault 77- This is the crate of puppets vault, featuring the crate of puppets guy. This Vault wasn't a part of any game, rather it is from a comic that was promo material for fallout 3. and like, penny arcade understood the assignment on demonstrating how fucked up vault-tec is in thirty six panels. Like my one critique is that it's so short, but with the direction they went with the plot and the topics they tackled and it being 2008, it was probably for the best. Anyways the whole comic is free on the Internet Archive and its a nice snappy read (almost to its detriment like straight up plz someone get ari aster on the phone he'd make a fantastic adaptation of one man and a crate of puppets legit)

Vault 112- ooh hoo hoo unlike most vaults that I just remember from reading the wiki blurbs back in high school, this one was fully brought to my attention in a game of magic where i exiled a ridiculous amount of my library to get a winning card and also my missing dad (shout out to adventure costs!!!) and in that game i vowed to find it. I didnt know that it was a part of the main plot of fo3 yet but that didn't take long to find out. This is the creepy simulation one that i see as almost a proof of concept for the evil within vibes-wise (i fucking love the evil within series but thats besides the point). Legit terrified me in a way that should not have been possible (maybe im the one with unchecked issues that people being saccharinely nice to me sets off alarm bells in my head but it could also be that i had to get into a vr pod first) (who knows?) Anyways I proceeded to ignore like half of it and I'm looking forward to the next time i play and actually interacting with it a bit more (also one of my twelve fallout ocs is from this vault i made it work given this vault's canon ending)

Vault 11- Oughhhhhhh epistolary enviromental just altogether wonderful storytelling. the posters. The Posters! The ones that read "I Hate Nate" but the deeper down you go the more you find that have been graffitied to read "I Hate Kate" perfect wonderful amazing. Not to mention granting us with "Don't Vote Glover He Has A Family" which idk I love that out of context but I do. In context it's downright horrifying and the absurdity of it actually adds to the horror. Love love love Vault 11.

Vault 108- Gary. Gary Gary? Gary! Okay in all seriousness the story of this one is bonkers and also I'm a sucker for cloning (I had a cloning phase in third grade). Like, they found a guy that was going to die in a few months to be overseer so that there would be a power vacuum. Okay, normal social experiment for vault-tec. This eventually leads to them cloning a guy named Gary and then all the Gary clones killing the rest of the dwellers so now the only people in the vault are Gary clones. For the life of me I do not remember the chain of events that led to it and no i will not look it up it's funnier this way.

Vault 88- Look this one is boring to most people. Its a mix reviewed Fallout 4 DLC but dammit, I like getting to design my own Vault. As someone who got into Fallout because of the Vaults it was incredibly appealing to get to be the villain for once. And then I saw that my victim was this sweet guy named Clem (and also I was playing a goody two shoes but thats besides the point). Like I can tell they wanted to write Clem to be annoying so that you felt less bad basically torturing him but I found him so sweet and earnest I just couldnt. I fucking love Clem I would die for Clem hes like if a golden retriever was a person that I wanted to make sure kept his agency and autonomy. Plus it was really fun getting to piss the overseer off with some actually decent written dialogue. Like bonus points for that. And I still havent finished building the vault! amazing. absolutely wacky but also amazing.

and i didnt really grasp what it meant at first because i didnt remember any of the lore heavy nonsense especially if it was added after i half lost interest and checked in sporadically but theres like, theres four elements going on in the background of the worldbuilding that are order, chaos, good and evil(?). and predictably, he wants to associate good with order and bad with chaos because thats how things go.

theres also two additional elements timeline wise that divide these concepts slightly; the technological/past world that culminated in the spooky scary AI gains Too Much Sentience and kills people (pointing out this event out the culminating many specifically because its relevant onwards). and the magical (grounded on the technological advancements of he past, like theres always a scientific excuse kinda deal)/current world that its where the apocalypse is currently happening -the character captain operates zeers "powers" (system wizard) on both goodness and order, and the rewrite introduces a character that operates by chaos. not necessarily evil (as the character herself puts it and i like to agree not on story context just in general), just chaos.

but the thing is, more than once the "goodness", rather than being like, good morals and ethics, is actually annet's company rules, ironically called the good directorate (gdir for short) and well. they arent very nice rules. extreme post capitalism rules. and idk call me radicalized or whatever but its highly agravating to see captain and other characters constantly shiding snippy for being an outlaw/badboy/unruly/chaotic?!/etc for like. scavenging for supplies. newsflash none of you people need to eat but he does. like come on man its so frustrating

and its actually kinda sad (extremely sad) that the rest of the world thats still alive and not human (not just machinery, aliens and captain too) are abiding by ridiculous rules like no jaywalking no loitering no stealing pay your debts go to your job etc when its all destroyed. one of the various reasons snippy has infinite debt is because he stopped showing up to work BUT ITS ALL DESTROYED!!!! WHATS he gonna do there whos gonna pay him!! hows he gonna track that hes being paid and pay for the food and guns he """"steals""""" if its ALL DESTROYED

thats a slight tangent to try and justify my point but gdir rules are evil (and dont try to "thats the point" me because youd THINK the characters would have realized it by now) and did more harm than good and abiding by them can be order sure. but calling it goodness is wrong for a good couple reasons. intrinsically captain IS a good person. zee is not evil or out to getcha or anything zee is still trying to accomplish the thing gdir created zee for, which is save humanity. but with everything gone and looking at how much harm it brought to the world and especially zees bElOvEd ChArLeS idk maybe reevaluate your morals when you tell a starved human to not take destroyed canned beans off the destroyed shelf in the destroyed walmart off for petty thefts

its incredibly aggravating when captain and infi (chaos character) are having their stupid cringe conversations/confrontations and theyre like oooh youre such a goody two shoes always being the good guy trying to do the right thing etc ok so far so good. by following g-dirs laws. bad actually

it makes sense only at the surface level. i need to read karlx max to explain why following gdirs concept of goodness is inherently bad and magic based on it should not work in the first place

im glad tina said what she said because 'the concept of good works to eliminate people who deviate from the norm' is exactly whats happening here (especially to snippy) but the author himself doesnt realize it and then goes on and on how you have to BE GOOD in order to BE A WIZARD and by BEING GOOD you have to follow GDIR DIRECTIONS

i also might be trying to work something out without having all the info as is usually the case but im definitely growing tired of the yandev approach of "introduce something new, 3 years of bug fixes" to the lore. i keep comparing this to yansim because its so... easy? the lack of foresight into planning your plot ahead into something coherent*, rather let the fans and friends and "contributors" write it for you in details and headcanons and then its a hot fucking mess

Oooooooooo time for episode 18, its called Into The Dark and a browneyed not!Zenix is on the thumbnail this could be good (its also only 12 mins so thats nice)

So, Aph is in the nether now, shes never been there obvs and she didnt really know what to expect and now shes in Literal Hell so. yea, she panics a lil like 'oh god oh fuck how the hell am I going to find that wolf baby here, in HELL" but manages to collect herself and trudge forward eventually

Cue montage of her walkin around the nether and looking around, maybe she fights some mobs idk and it ends when she sees that big nether fortress and decides to check it out

She sneaks up on those two red guards and kills them (or maybe she just injures them/knocks them out, if we wanna make her a real goody two shoes who doesnt wanna kill under any circumstances) (idk if I want her to steal the helmet as well yet bc I feel like shes just gonna go back to her old gear later anyway)

Instead of killing that big blaze, she just manages to sneak past it and goes to look for the Lord of Brightport while maybe being kinda spooked by some weird blaze noises

I'll have to adjust the scene of Aph fighting the red guards in that dining hall-lookin room to feel less videogame-y

She then encounters the Weakened Shadow Of The King, kills it and just kinda goes "Huh, that was weird. anyway time to save this wolf child" like in the OG. Like, shes a bit more spooked bc this is gonna be a lot scarier here, but the core doesnt really change

So yea she breaks the wolf kid out and they have the same convo that they have in the OG. Once again, Im cutting all the Golden Lassos so Aph just picks Kiva up after this and carries her

(Oh man, I didnt pay attention so idk where the hell she got that demonic broadsword from, but it'll apparently belong to Aaron later so uhhhhhh idk, Im either moving her getting that sword to a different point in the story or I'll just have her find it while sneaking around the fortress)

She gets the hell outta there, sneaking past all those mobs is more difficult this time bc shes got a scarer wolf child in her arms but she manages (maybe this part is a montage as well idk)

The scene w/ Zenix at the end stays the same, obvs instead of having a golden lasso hes just carrying his body

That was.... underwhelming. but hey, it looks like shits goin down w/ Zenix so thats nice. Also, I couldve sworn that was actually not!Zenix bc Im pretty sure he (Zenix) is wearing what not!Zenix usually wears but then again, I thought those two were literally the same person until they shared a scene and I was basically forced into recognizing that those were two Completely Seperate Guys lol

 *YOOSUNG:

               -He wanted to do something a little different for Easter

               -Instead of the standard basket full of goodies, he wanted to have some fun! Play around! Go outside for once!

               -"It's so nice outside... it'd be a shame if we didn't enjoy it.... if we just sat in here.... doing nothing...." "Yoosung are you okay? Are you sick?"

               -He grabbed two spoons, a bucket with some unfilled water balloons, and your hand, dragging them all outside

               -You helped him fill up a bunch of water balloons, laughing when you realized they had little patterns on them like Easter eggs or little bunny faces

               -He announced the two of you were going to have a spoon and egg race, but with water balloons!  

               -But he gets really competitive? But it's always really playful, never hurtful!

               -He's knocked the spoon so the water balloon drops, or he bumps into you on "accident"

               -After his 7th win, he's laughing at you and gloating that "Shooting Star" is the best Water balloon racer there ever was. He stopped laughing when you hit him in the face with a water balloon

               -The rest of the race turned into a water balloon fight. The both of you ended up completely soaked, running, and giggling like children. Once you were out of water balloons though, you two used the spoons as if they were swords and continued to run around like complete dorks

 *ZEN:

               -"BABE WAKE UP I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU" "Zen it's 6 in the morning this better be important or I'm killing you"

               -He has you get dressed, hands you a piece of paper, and shoves you out of the house?? This early in the morning?? He won't unlock the door?? YOU'RE GONNA FUCKING KILL HIM

               -The piece of paper had a location on it and a memory he had written down on it- it was the coffee shop the two of you and Jaehee frequent. When you got there, the manager handed you a basket with a single plastic egg in it, and another piece of paper with- surprise- another location and memory associated with it

               -After a while, the scavenger hunt got harder and harder. He'd write down a memory and you'd have to start to figure out where to go next

               -At each place, you found a single plastic egg. Curiosity got the better of you and you opened a few of them

               -Inside were different puzzle pieces? He put together a scavenger hunt for puzzle pieces? What kind of moNSTER

               -The last clue sent you home where he sat at the living room table, waiting for you

               -He helped you put the puzzle pieces together, the pieces revealed the picture you were putting together was your favourite photo of the two of you, with "I love you" scribbled in his handwriting in the corner

               -You absolutely loved it and couldn't stop smiling at how dramatic and over the top he was with it, but it was still super cute! But there was a puzzle piece missing? You turned to ask him about it and you found him holding up a plastic egg covered in glitter. You opened it to find not only the last piece, which was a picture of a heart, but also a ring.

               -He turned a nice shade of pink but had the brightest smile when he saw your eyes light up. The whole day was amazing, fun, and just absolutely beautiful. You loved all of it, and especially him, there was no way you could say no

 *JAEHEE:

               -She woke up that Sunday to find your shared living room covered in hand-made paper decorations, coloured construction paper scattered across the floor, a basket full of goodies she couldn't quite make out, and you standing in the center of the chaos with a large smile on your face

               -"MC, do you care to explain what all of....this... is?" She asked, side-eyeing the large paper rabbit you've hung against the bookshelf

               -"It's all part of a game! It's the Bunny Hop game! We pick these coloured cards, and move to that colour, sort of like Candyland!"

               -You gestured over to the basket sitting at the end of the "board", and gave her the brightest grin you could

               -"Winner gets the basket of goodies!!! Okay okay, come over here!! Hurry, hurry!"

               -She laughed at your enthusiasm and joined you at the start, taking turns moving across the "board" from colour to colour

               -THIS GAME WAS A LOT LARGER THAN SHE ORGINALLY THOUGHT? IT WRAPPED AROUND THE KITCHEN, THE STUDY, EVEN OUTSIDE???? MC HOW EARLY DID YOU WAKE UP TO SET THIS ALL UP?

               -At the end of it all, she finally realized that you had rigged it so she would win. The basket was full of some of her favourite coffee beans, a bunch of caramel chocolates, some rare Zen merchandise, and a gift card for her favourite book store

               -She had no words?? You literally set this game up just for her to win? This is the sweetest thing anyone's done for her in a long time

               -The two of you shared her chocolates throughout the rest of the day as she's cuddled against you. As a thank you for the day, she cooks one of your favourite meals for dinner. she also makes you play the bunny hop game a few more times because?? Its cute and fun and she just wants to enjoy it let her have this

 *JUMIN:

               -On Easter, you wake up to a basket full of goodies, correct?

               -When you live with Jumin, you wake up to like 5 different baskets

               -There's even a basket for Elizabeth omg what a cutie

               -EACH BASKET HAS THEMES!!!

               -A few are full of items pertaining to your favourite interests/hobbies, another is dedicated to candies and chocolate, and the largest was by far the one he was most excited about

               -It held a beautiful outfit, dazzling accessories, and even some shoes??

               -He was grinning from ear to ear when you turned to ask him about it and he held out some tickets towards you

               -A play?? This dude's seriously taking you to a play?? What a NERD but you couldn't help but get just as excited who's the nerd now, mc????

               -It's not surprising that the two of you ended up in a sugar induced coma, spread out of the couch. Saeran looked at the two of you in disgust as he stole a handful of his brothers candy, so you'd have more than him when the two of you woke up

               -Why is there a large canvas sitting in your living room whERE IS THE FURNITURE

               -V was standing there in an old t-shirt and shorts, smiling at you proudly, which makes you question just what he has planned

               -The entire room is covered in layers of old sheets, painters paper, and cartons upon cartons of eggs scattered about the floor

               -"MC! Look! We can make art with paint instead of photos this time!" "But V, you have your camera set up right here, it's set for rapid fire" "No it's not, ignore that" "IT'S RIGHT HERE" "No it's not"

               -Once you've changed into the appropriate painting attire, you look around for some brushes, and more importantly, some paint

               -You watched as he picked up an egg, smiled at you, and threw it at the canvas. The egg shattered, leaving a large paint splatter across it. That's when it clicked that the eggs are hollowed out and full of different coloured paint

               -The two of you take turns just throwing different colours, laughing, and shoving each other playfully

               -After a while, throwing the eggs at the canvas turned into throwing them at each other. He even smashed a few full of light blue paint over your head

               -"Look, MC, now you've got hair like mine"

               -The fight didn't end until the both of you were covered head to toe in paint, and he had enough pictures of the two of you playing to make a full scrapbook of its own. You even laid on the ground and made a paint angel, and he drew a little halo above you and everything

 *SAERAN:

               -He watched in confusion as you filled a ton of different bowls full of vinegar and food dye

               -You had almost every colour you could think of and he wasn't sure what you were even going to do with it?

               - After an explanation that, you take hard boiled eggs and set them in the liquid so you can colour and decorate them, he was just left with more questions

               -"Why would you do that? Couldn't you just eat it? What's the point?" "Stop asking questions and just dye some eggs"

               -He watched you use a clear crayon to draw some designs on the eggs, dip them in multiple colours, and tried to do the same

               - his first few eggs were literally just black

               -He actually enjoyed drawing little bunny faces on some of them. There were even little egg versions of the two of you!

               -A while later, he realized that the dye sort of...dyes your skin, so he wanted to mess with you

               -He got a paint brush and started to paint little pictures on your arm while you tried to finish dyeing the eggs

               -But it was really relaxing and you couldn't help but let him do it. By the end of the night, the two of you were not only naked, but you guys were covered in adorable little paintings! He loved them a lot and didn't want to wash them off in all honesty. Though the two of you reeked of vinegar and Saeyoung had to exaggerate and wear a clothespin on his nose the whole next day

craig - WHAT CAN I SAY they got me in two of my favorite tropes: jock with a heart of gold and old friends who unexpectedly reunite and fall madly in love. he’s a GOOD DAD who LOVES HIS KIDS SO MUCH THAT HE DOESN’T LOOK AFTER HIMSELF #relatable but he’s also just a good guy who recognizes his own flaws and tries really hard to work on them (the exact opposite of other dads on the OPPOSITE END OF THE LIST) overall i really liked his story a lot and i got super into all of our dates. like #1 moment in all of dream daddy was getting him to kiss my forehead on the baseball field like DAMN IM STILL GAY ABOUT IT......LOVE YOU BRO

damien - I KNOW IM JUST AS SHOCKED AS YOU ARE!!! when all the dads were first released i took one look at him and was like “you’re going to be my least favorite”. im really not about worshipping victorian era stuff and i thought he looked pretentious as hell but no. i had the same reaction as dadsona in that i just found his passion really charming even if i didn’t relate?? plus he’s SUCH A GOOD DAD AND A GENUINELY NICE PERSON and i was really just charmed every step of the way until by the end he’d somehow magically shot up to being one of my faves. his story was really well written and imho his dates were the most fun. i love my goth it boyfriend

hugo - ANOTHER SHOCKER again i am super NOT into classical literature nor wrestling so even when his secret was revealed i was like eehhhhh.... but its just like damien in that HIS PASSION IS REALLY....CUTE.......I LIKE HIM A LOT LMAO also idk if i was the only one who noticed but hugo is like so much softer than a lot of the other dads in terms of affection like....he got me with that forehead touch tho.......damn still gay about it

mat - don’t get me wrong mat is still godtier dad and i really like him a lot but the fact that i had to replay his entire track (and kept having to reload dates because i STILL kept choosing the wrong dialogue options fhdsjkalh) really put a damper on liking our relationship. much like the other dads i am really not into music the same way that mat is, which i think is why i kept choosing the wrong options and why we couldn’t really connect......this one is really hard because i didn’t really like his story or our dates but i really REALLY like mat as a character?? i think being a cool guy who doesn’t actually like socializing is really interesting and the parallels between both mat and dadsona losing their partners could have been played more. IDK i would still die for him and carmensita 

brian - SEE ITS SIMILAR TO MAT in that i actually do like brian but the writing of our relationship really dampered my attitude. cuz like. after the first date and ESP the second i knew that brian wasn’t actually trying to one up us but the game kept writing this narrative that i hated the guy, even when i didn’t. so in the end brian’s “arc” had less to do with us helping him through a problem like the other dads but him teaching us not to be an asshole....which i never signed up for in the first place. oh but daisy is a godtier a+ daughter and i would kill a man for her

joseph - first off i dont give a shit about the cult ending so jot that down. that being said, im still really annoyed with the way they wrote his arc and how there isn’t an ending that yknow...resolves his conflict.......and the sad thing is i actually did like everything leading up to that point. i think joseph is a good dad and a fun dude and i enjoyed our dates!! mostly he just makes me sad

robert - FUCK ROBERT SMALLS!!!!! i will never get over the fact that if you sleep with him at any point, he suddenly decides the both of you are “using each other” and he’ll just treat you like absolute shit.
