Okay. Iâm going to go there. Here are my thoughts on this travesty of a match. But first:
Here are the Indian national cricket teamâs international stats
World Test Championship
2021 - Runners Up
2023 - Runners Up
ODI World Cup
2015 - Semi-Finalists
2019 - Semi-Finalists
2023 - Runners Up
T20 World Cup
2014 - Runners Up
2016 - Semi-Finalists
2022 - Semi-Finalists
Champions Trophy
2017 - Runners Up
Now, I understand the points made about Choice of Pitch and Crowd Support. I do believe the outcome wouldâve been different if weâd played anywhere except Ahmedabad. And as hosts, weâve got to give our players every advantage, including a pitch that tilts in their favour.* BUT what about all the tournaments we didnât host? Weâve consistently made the semis and finals of almost every single major international trophy in the past decade. Weâre practically giants. We donât need a pitch advantage to win a match - weâve demonstrated that we can get the job done and we can do it anywhere, any pitch, any country. So why canât we win when it matters most?
Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again: cricket is just as much as a mental game as any other sport. We need to take note of this pattern and do something to address it. Iâm not saying a sports psychologist will solve all our problems but itâs certainly a start. The minute Travis Head began to hit a few boundaries, shoulders began to droop. There were times when the fielding was so lax it felt like they couldnât be bothered to do it faster because âeh, itâs just a single run.â Australia was on fire today. Not a single mistake, not a single toe out of line. They were in the zone, serious from the get go - and they got the job done. I have never seen that kind of coordination and perfection from our Indian team. Weâre always wobbly in places, and then are stabilised and carried through by the stellar performance of a few players (who vary from match to match). We can talk about Batting Depth and Hardikâs absence from the team etc etc but the fact of the matter is we are capable enough to win on any pitch, in any conditions, as weâve shown before, time and time again. But not if itâs a final. And I just think thatâs a problem worth addressing with a solution that goes beyond âshiny new pitch, better gyms, and new talent.âÂ
*I know it's technically ICC who prepares pitches but iykyk

Jos is any day a better T20 batsman than VK. VK has got more records, but the impact Jos has is unparalleled
HAHAHAHAHAHA đ¤Ŗđ¤Ŗđ¤Ŗ
I'm sorry but
HAHAHAHAHA đ¤Ŗđ¤Ŗđ¤Ŗ
I'm curious, what exactly is considered "impact"? How about being the highest run-scorer of 2 T20 World Cups? How about being the player of the tournament in consecutive T20 World Cups? Virat did that. You know what else he did? India played 6 knockout matches between 2014 and 2024. Virat has made a half century or more than that in 5 out of those 6 matches. That's just shy of 400 runs in 6 matches. It makes his average in T20 WC knockout matches over 90. If that's not impactful, I don't know what is.
Is impact related to strike rate? Virat scored 70 off 29 against West Indies, 94 in some 50 odd balls against WI, and his century against Afghanistan came in 52 balls. The first knock has a strike rate of over 200. Virat chased down 48 off the last 3 overs against Pakistan at the MCG in 2022 and 39 off the last 3 overs against Australia at Mohali in 2016. The latter was a virtual quarter final, and Virat's knock guaranteed India's progress to the semi finals.
Is impact related to hitting sixes? Well, for all that Jos is a renowned six-hitter, it was Virat's six against Haris Rauf at the MCG was declared the shot of the century by ICC. An equation that read 28 off 8 became 16 off 6. It was Virat who hit the two sixes that were required to get it down till here.
Virat has time and again won matches out of nowhere for India. The Mohali 82 against Australia, the MCG 82 against Pakistan, the 72 in 2014 SFs vs South Africa, I can go on and on here-- Heck, Virat was most of the, if not the sole reason that India got as far as they did in the 2014, 2016 and 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup. He is a massively impactful player, who delivers whenever needed. Even yesterday's final, take Virat's 76 out of the equation and we had only a 100 on the board to defend. I doubt even Jasprit could have done much with that.
Virat ended his career in T20s as unquestionably the best T20 player of this generation. Nobody comes close to having the kind of impact he does on the game. He carried India in almost every single T20 World Cup he played, and nobody deserved to lift that trophy as much as he did.
I did not intend this as an insult to Jos. He is a great player, one of the very best to have played the game, but he's not better than Virat. Nope, sorry, he isn't. And it isn't limited to Jos either. There isn't any player in the world, not Rohit, not Warner, not Babar, not Maxwell, no nobody in this generation comes close to having the kind of class, poise and impact of Kohli in T20s.
People are allowed differing opinions - sure, the stats say Virat but in terms of coming in when the team needs and changing the game momentum Jos is one of the best at having an impact
Numbers arenât always everything, I think is the point the original ask was making. And honestly, looking at the tournament that just concluded, VK really only made an impact in the final, whilst Jos was a lynchpin to a lot of Englandâs batting innings.
Not saying youâre wrong and - as I said - everyone has opinions and itâs great theyâre different because it allows us to discuss thing :) But I think the original ask was talking more about match impact than stats. There is a reason he was RRâs impact batsman for the IPL this year.

hey! I wanna ask one thing, did you watch the highlights of the India vs Pakistan match from the 2022 t20 world cup? considering Ind vs Pak is today, star sports was showing the highlights of the 2022 T20 again. So the 2022 match, held at Melbourne, is hands down one of the biggest nailbiters in cricket history, and features a famous rescue act by Virat Kohli. He top-scored with 82 not out in a chase of 160, which enabled us to win the match by 4 wickets. And we had got off to a horror start, we were something like 40/4 at a point, and we weren't even near to the required run rate. That was when Virat and Hardik combined for a vital partnership. I remember that match crystal clear, India needed 22 from 8 balls, Haris Rauf was bowling, and Virat hit him for two successive sixes. The first of those sixes was just sublime and like, unreal, and was officially voted the ICC shot of the century. Not the year, not the decade, the whole damn century. đ¤¯đ¤¯đĨšđĨš
So I was thinking of how this match would happen in Omegaverse, or more specifically how it would help improve public reaction to omegas playing. With Virat open and out omega, and his six being voted as the ICC shot of the century, people would be kinder to the idea of omegas in cricket, wouldn't they? Also, in my headcanon, Hardik is also an omega-- a bit like Stu, he's in hiding, pretending to be an alpha, despite VK's debut, because BCCI made it pretty loud and clear that Virat was a special case, and other omegas shouldn't expect the same privileges extended to them. So Hardik, just like Stu, is taking pills to conceal his identity and like Stu, conforming to a hyper-alpha lifestyle he doesn't subscribe to, but follows for fear of letting himself out accidentally. But Hardik has also come out as omega by the time this iconic match happens. So imagine this now: your team is in major trouble, both your openers (kl Rahul and rohit in this case), are gone, Suryakumar Yadav, the number one ranked batter in t20s has gotten out, and Axar Patel, the sole left-hander in your lineup has gotten run out in a terrible mix-up. Who's left now? Virat and Hardik. Two omegas, who despite their achievements can't seem to earn the kind of respect and awe that playing alphas do. These two omegas end up stitching together a partnership that takes us over the line against our arch-rivals in an utter humdinger. Pure cinema. đ¤đģ
Aww I really like that - and yeah Stuart isn't an exception; there's quite a few players around the world posing as alphas when they're really omegas.
The opinion of omegas will be much better come 2022, but they'll probably be an undertone of 'two omegas can't get this over the line' when it goes down to it. I don't think it's like the turning point because, as I said, omegas are much more accepted and respected by this time, but it'll definitely have positive effects

Virat Kohli Or Suryakumar Yadav: Ex-Indian Stars Differ On 'Best Batter' For T20 World Cup
Virat Kohli Or Suryakumar Yadav: Ex-Indian Stars Differ On âBest Batterâ For T20 World Cup
Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav were two of the best batters in T20 WC 2022Š BCCI The 2022 T20 World Cup concluded with England being crowned as champions, beating Pakistan in the final by 5 wickets. The Indian cricket team didnât manage to create a big impact in the tournament, but there were a few players who did impress with their performances on an individual level. In terms of batters,âĻ

I have my finals going on, so I have been extremely disturbed by this whole scenario, so I had to rant. But I'm better now.
no maan it's not about loosing. A whole lot of people's hope broke (certainly not just Indians).
One shouldn't take humiliation in loosing.
Like ik all of us are heartbroken, but I'm more in pain for the team. After such beautiful performances this happened.
It was so so painful to see Rohit cry.
You can't blame them, can you? Afterall, they have been giving their best all this while.
All I feel rn is that even tho they didn't win the match and the cup which they and only they deserved the most, they won a lot lot more than that, they won all our hearts.
They shattered so so MANY records. Everyone played OUTSTANDING and OMG Rohit, Virat, Viraj, Shubman, Shreyas, Jadeja, Pandya, Shami... YOU ALL WERE BEYOND THAT.
And lets not forget the fact that India still continues to stand on the 1st position in the world cup table despite the loss.
I know for a fact that it was more of fate was more responsible for everything than their play.
The past undefeatable magic of their healed a lot within me, even tho after this, a part of me is in deep ache.
Thanks a ton to the wonderful team India. My heart swells with pride and mind can't help but be further more devoted to you and Cricket.
And congrats to Australian cricket team.

BCCIâs Lollipop to the IOC - Turning Cricket into a Global Sport
Cricket, a sport with a staggering fan base of 2.5 billion people worldwide (According to Sport Pledge) is making significant strides towards Olympic inclusion. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been actively pushing for cricket's inclusion in the Olympic Games, with the ambition to debut at the LA28 Games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), led by Jay Shah, has played a pivotal role in this endeavor. The Sportwiz explores the journey of cricket towards becoming a global sport, driven by the aspirations of the ICC and the strategic efforts of the BCCI.
source - IOC
Cricket has been making notable appearances in various multi-sport events, such as the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 and the Asian Games in 2010, 2014, and the upcoming 2023 edition in Hangzhou, Even this years African Games hosted in Ghana will consist of cricket where it will be played in the T20 format. These inclusions highlight the growing recognition and acceptance of cricket as a global sport.
source - ICC
The question arises: Does the Olympics need cricket, or does cricket need the Olympics? Cricket's immense popularity, with a fan base of 2.5 billion people and its status as the second most-watched sport globally, demonstrates the sport's strength and appeal. However, Olympic inclusion would provide an unparalleled platform for cricket to reach new audiences and further boost its global recognition.
source - business today
The ICC's bid for Olympic inclusion emphasized the massive viewership cricket attracts. The 2022 T20 World Cup garnered a staggering 1.2 billion unique viewers globally. Additionally, the 2020 Women's World Cup saw 89 million viewers tuning in, showcasing the increasing popularity of women's cricket. These statistics exemplify cricket's potential as a major draw for broadcasters, sponsors, and fans alike.
India's significance as a cricket powerhouse cannot be overlooked. The country accounts for a substantial portion of cricket's global viewership, with 76% of the 113.5 million viewing hours recorded during major tournaments coming from India. The BCCI, backed by India's massive cricket market, has offered the International Olympic Committee (IOC) a chance to tap into this unique viewership, potentially elevating the Olympic Games' viewership in the Indian subcontinent.
source - InsideSport.in
The BCCI's main revenue stream, broadcasting rights, presents a compelling proposition for the IOC. Currently held by JIO and Viacom 18 for $31 million, these rights contribute to the ongoing profits of the Olympics. If cricket is included in the Olympics, the ICC estimates potential revenue of $130-260 million. These figures highlight the financial gains that could be achieved through cricket's Olympic participation.
The number $31 million USD is larger than the previous years in terms of Olympics in India but if we compare it to a similar number showcasing the money thatâs involved in cricket, in the next financial cycle of the BCCI the Pakistan Cricket board ( PCB ) who hold a share of 5.75% is approximately valued at $34.5 million USD.
PCB Chairperson Mr Najam Sethi
source - The Express Tribune
Cricket's economic value has witnessed a remarkable surge, as evidenced by the 300% increase in media rights value for ICC and IPL. The media rights for ICC and IPL soared from âš16,347 crores to a staggering âš48,390 crores. This exponential growth further solidifies cricket's position as a lucrative sporting asset.
source - Sportskeeda
With the Indian Premier League (IPL) now ranked as the second most valued sporting league globally, cricket's future looks promising. The IPL's substantial viewership of 380 million domestic TV viewers in the 2021 season and cumulative viewership of 383 billion minutes for the 2020 campaign across TV and digital platforms indicate cricket's enormous potential according to Jay Shah. As cricket continues to captivate audiences, its inclusion in the Olympics could propel the sport to new heights.
The bid to include cricket in the Olympics is anticipated to be decided in the final session of the IOC, scheduled to take place in Mumbai in October. Brisbane 2032 Olympics presents a realistic opportunity for cricket's inclusion, given Australia's cricketing heritage. Surprisingly, Los Angeles may also be a potential host, thanks to the approval of the bid by former Mayor Eric Garcetti, now the US Ambassador to India, fostering stronger relations between India and the USA.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah ( left ) with US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti ( right )

Cricket's journey towards becoming a global sport is gaining momentum, with the ICC and BCCI leading the way. The sport's immense viewership, economic value, and potential for growth make it an attractive addition to the Olympic Games. As the IOC contemplates cricket's inclusion, the world awaits a decision that could redefine the sport and pave the way for a future where cricket becomes truly global.

Pakistanâs Babar Azam in T20I
When Babar Azam takes the field on Friday, 14 April for the match against New Zealand, he will become the third Pakistan player to feature in 100 Men's T20Is
Shoaib Malik (123) and Mohammad Hafeez (119) are the two other Pakistan players to reach this milestone in men's T20Is.
The level-headed Pakistan captain is well known for his flamboyant batting style and along with Mohammad Rizwan forms an intimidating opening pair in T20Is.
As we celebrate his 100 T20Is, let's have a look at some of Babar's top innings in the format.
122 off 59 v South Africa, Centurion, 2021 â Babar and Rizwan are a force to reckon with. While Rizwan plays the role of an aggressor more often, there have been times when Babar has blown away the opposition with his explosive shots. The third T20I against South Africa in 2021 was one such example.
Chasing a formidable 204, Babar took the lead almost right from the start. After taking a couple of overs to adjust, he started pummelling the bowlers all over the park. His 50 came in just 27 balls and he accelerated after that with aplomb. He ended up with 122 off just 59 deliveries but unfortunately was dismissed with Pakistan needing just 7 to win, nevertheless having brought his side to the brink of victory. Pakistan then chased the total with two overs to spare. It was also Babar's first century in the format.
110* off 66 v England, Karachi, 2022 â Babar's second T20I century was no less impressive and this time it came at home. After losing the first T20I, Pakistan needed to hit back. England batted first and scored 199/5. Chasing another 200 score was not going to be easy but both Babar and Rizwan were in a different mood altogether. Babar, in particular, led the charge, smashing 110* off just 66 deliveries as Pakistan registered a 10-wicket victory over England. It was Babar who hit the winning runs, an inside-out four through covers celebrating a dominating win.
97* off 58 v West Indies, Karachi, 2018 â Babar's first Karachi masterclass came in 2018, four years before his hundred; an almost century innings against West Indies at home. Batting first, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman early, who had opened the innings with Babar. The 24-year-old Babar Azam had only hit three fifty-plus scores in his career then and came close to scaling three figures when he took on the Windies bowling attack single-handedly. Pairing with Hussain Talat at No.3, Babar hit 13 fours and a six on his way to 97* off 58 deliveries. Pakistan put up a huge total of 205/3 and defended it easily with their strong bowling attack.
79* off 53 v New Zealand, Christchurch, 2022 â Babar's 79* was not in an high-scoring encounter but a low-scoring chase against New Zealand's celebrated bowling attack in their own backyard. The Pakistan bowlers had done their job keeping the Black Caps down to 147/8 in their 20 overs. But the hosts were not going down without a fight. They removed Rizwan early and crippled Pakistan further with a second wicket, leaving them at 37/2 in the sixth over. But Babar kept going. He rebuilt the Pakistan innings, first patiently stabilizing them, then pouncing on the bad balls to put them away. He formed crucial partnerships with the middle order and though New Zealand got a couple of more wickets, they had no answer to Babar. The Pakistan captain remained not out as the visitors claimed a six-wicket victory in the 19th over.
68* off 52 v India, Dubai, 2021 â The famous ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 match. While there were many heroes in the game, Babar's contribution to it cannot be forgotten. After India were restricted to 151/7, Pakistan went all out with the bat to bamboozle the Indian bowlers. Rizwan was sensational and Babar played the perfect fiddle for him. Both batters complemented each other and pummelled the Indian attack without any rest. Babar hit the winning runs helping Pakistan to their first victory over India in the history of the tournament.
