Is it better to take an AP or honors course and get a B than it is to take a regular course and get an A?
The too-short, oversimplified, tl;dr answer is: yes.
But it’s much more complicated than that.
The real question behind this question is whether or not you should risk taking a certain AP or honors course if you think there’s a good chance you won’t get an A. There are two concerns in play here. On the one hand, you need a high GPA to get into the most competitive universities. On the other hand, you also need to have a rigorous course load that includes AP and honors courses.
The ideal is that you would get all A’s with a ton of AP and honors courses. For most students, this isn’t possible. Be honest with yourself: how many of these rigorous courses can you handle while still maintaining a high GPA?
If you want to gain admission to competitive colleges and universities, you need to take some AP and honors courses. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you should always opt for AP or honors, especially if it’s a subject you’re not particularly skilled at or interested in.
How many AP or honors classes should you take? That depends on what year you’re in, what your goals are, and how much work you can handle. The key to answering all these questions is self-awareness.
What are you passionate about? What are you good at? Where do you want to go to college? These are the kinds of questions you need to be asking to be as successful as you can be in high school.
The top Ivy League applicants will typically take 4–6 AP courses in their junior year. But there is no quick and easy answer to how many you should take. Not everyone can get into an Ivy League school, and there is a strong argument to be made that most students—even the “best and brightest”—should not go to an Ivy League school.
You should take no more AP an honors courses than you can handle while still achieving a high GPA.
What you absolutely want to avoid is transcript padding. Some applicants will cruise to easy A’s taking no AP or honors courses at all. That will not impress most admissions committees.
As Kiley explains in his article How Many AP Classes is Enough?, you should “take as many of the most rigorous classes available to you as you can as long as you can do well in them.” At most competitive universities, 7–12 total AP courses over the course of your entire high school career will be recognized as a rigorous course load.
Back to the original question: if you have your heart set on a top-tier institution, then chances are you will have to risk a B in an AP or honors course at some point. What this will communicate to admissions committees is effort, rigor, and interest.
You should absolutely take AP and honors courses in classes that align with your proposed major or minor, and you should add to that list any subject that you find interesting.
Again, you don’t want to avoid AP and honors courses just to keep your GPA up; that approach could communicate a lack of rigor and effort. But you also don’t want to risk getting a C in an AP course, either.
Long story short: it is absolutely worth occasionally risking a B in an AP or honors course, as long as you’re also mixing in a healthy dose of A’s.
A perfect GPA and a packed AP course-load is the ideal. Short of that, you’re going to want to find a healthy balance between A’s and AP’s.

Unfolding History: A Visit to Keezhadi Museum, Madurai by PYP-4 and PYP-5 Students
Recently, the students of PYP-4 and PYP-5 of Ela Green School went on a fun and thrilling field trip to the Keezhadi Museum in Madurai. The Keezhadi Museum was a great educational excursion for the students as they were able to learn a lot about the history and culture of Tamil Nadu. The museum is dedicated to archaeological research and opens the merits of Ancient Tamil civilization, which is essential to know evolution of the region in the context of World History.
Some Snapshots from the Ancient History
Upon entering the museum, students were greeted with a wonderful collection of artifacts including pots, tools, ornaments, and other evidence from the Sangam period almost 2000 years ago. The excavation at Keezhadi has revealed interesting evidence of an urban settlement close to the River Vaigai and this museum represents those findings in the form of many displays. Children’s curiosity was well peaked when they saw how various pottery pieces that were brought on the site were engraved with Tamil letters which also suggests that the people at that time were likely able to read and write. They were also able to appreciate early towns’ organization, farming activities, and the way of life that this ancient civilization was based on. They were interested in how these discoveries are very important in bridging the present Tamil culture with the history of the language.
Interactive Learning and Discussions
While on that excursion, the children had several interactions with the museums’ informants who shew them around and gave speeches about each exhibit. The exciting aspect of the trip was that all of them were able to pose questions and even to increase their knowledge about historical studies and archaeology. Celebrating Rakshabandhan with EYP2 Students at Ela Green School
The students of EYP 2 celebrated Rakshabandhan, a festival that stands for love, care, and protection between siblings. At Ela Green School, this day provided an avenue for our young students to have a taste of what friendship, love, and unity are all about, as depicted in the occasion.

On that note, the EYP2 students marked Rakshabandhan by tying traditional Rakhis not only around the wrists of their siblings but also around those of their classmates. This is much more than just a family affair; it embraces friends and peers who are always there for each other. The site of little hands threading colorful treads brought home to me how deep yet pure these ties were between our children.

Through the storytelling method, they learned from history how the festival began and why it is celebrated using Rakhis, which is a symbol of safety and affection among brothers and sisters. They were able to learn that apart from being ritualistic, this program was about concern shown through mutual respect among one another.
Creating Handcrafted Rakhis
During this celebration activity, EYP2 students participated in making rakhis. These children would make their own Rakhis using colored threads together with decorative materials such as beads under guidance from their teachers as part of a hands-on exercise. Such crafty exercises enabled them to be more attached to themselves rather than just tying rakhis.
Expressing Bonds Through Rakhis
The climax was when kids exchanged handmade Rakhis among themselves; they did this by tying them to each other’s hands. Their bonding was strengthened when they tied rakhi around one another’s wrists; it is a very simple act to show the meaning of the friendship that is shared among people. The act of putting them on caused much excitement as seen from their faces, which clearly showed how to give and receive love.
Conclusion
At Ela Green School, Rakshabandhan was more than a festival; for EYP2 students, it was an opportunity to learn about love, friendship, and unity. This increased the comprehension of cultural traditions and also made bonds in the classroom stronger. They ended up with colorful Rakhis on their arms when leaving Ela Green School, thus associating themselves with the school and remembering good times spent together.
This year’s Rakshabandhan celebration reminded us all of how important it is to develop strong relationships founded on love and care, something that our children have embraced wholeheartedly.

Welcome one and all to the Irritable Bowel Showdown (or IBS)
Does your favorite character spend too much time sobbing on the toilet? Do they go through the entire roll, or conversely, not nearly enough of it?? Are they the unfortunate and frequent victim of an Ominous Rumbly Tummy Ache??? Do they just give off those vibes????
Then this is the tournament for you!!! We’re here to find who has the most bathroom trouble energy!!! (Submission link and rules below)
Rules and regulations:
Submit as many characters as you’d like, but please do not submit the same character multiple times (convincing others to submit them is encouraged though)
You can absolutely submit characters just off of vibes!!! However, having actual canon gastrointestinal issues is an easy ticket into the tournament.
EDIT: okay so the “instant admission” clause was a little bold of me, especially because “GI issues” is sort of vague, but I will still try my best to give characters with canon bowel issues priority!!!
Fictional characters only (I could be convinced to accept a real person if it’s funny, but don’t bet on it)
I will not be accepting Harry Potter characters. Otherwise, I don’t have any other rules on fandoms as of right now, and I plan to be pretty loose (hehe) with submissions.
However, I reserve the right to include or exclude characters as I see fit.
I’m unsure how many characters will participate or how seeding will happen, but I will figure it out once submissions close.
In case it is not clear, there will be dumb bathroom humor involved. Nothing super gross or graphic though, please.
