Rick doesn't bother to answer Krang's question. It's rhetorical for him as much as it is for the alien, and the answer would be worded in the same way...but it would be pointing at a different person. If the brain gets fried before they can get to the science part, he would do it, as he was already planning to anyway.

Duh.

All he does is snorting in derision at the brief but heated exchange Krang and Shredder have, which ends with the Ninja Master being forced to carry on the other's bidding. Again.

Morty, on his part, turns around, obviously stunned into surprise for a moment, when Bebop calls out to him. He wants him to jam with them? As in hang out? With music? Oh man, no one has ever asked him to do something like that. It seems like the two mutants have liked his answer. Maybe he'll actually make cool friends for once.

Failing to keep the excited grin off his face, the boy nods vigorously, ignoring the glare Rick shoots his way and waving a hand at them. "Y-Yeah, it stinks, b-but no worries, man! I-I've survived much worse than a cave! S-See you both later. L-Looking forward to the...the jamming!"

He might have said more if the scientist hadn't grabbed him by the collar and pulled him forward to force him to walk.

"S-Stop smiling like a fuckin' idiot, Morty. D-Damn, are you seriously that desperate for attention? G-Geez," Rick grumbles under his breath, pushing the body past the entrance of the cave. "D-Don't be such a Jerry, for fuck's sake. H-Have some dignity."

The insults are met with an eyeroll and that's the only answer Morty chooses to offer. Once upon a time he would have gotten irritated, if not straight out mad, but nowadays he has a much thicker skin, for way too many reasons.

The first few minutes of walking are spent in utter silence. Shredder is walking a few steps ahead of them, probably still fuming at having been forced into that situation, while Rick is fiddling with one of his watches, trying to get the energy tracker to work. The walls of the cavern must be made of a very peculiar kind of rock, because they refract the power source signal all around, making it impossible for him to pinpoint its exact location.

In the end, predictably it's Morty who breaks the quietness. The teen has tried to keep himself busy with looking around and studying the way the stones glow with a rainbow of colours when hit by the light of their torches, but eventually the atmosphere just becomes too awkward for him to keep his mouth shut.

"Uh, s-so..." He starts, peering up at Shredder with a mixture of nervousness and curiosity. "W-What's with the...you know. T-The cape? Not that there's something wrong with it! J-Just...it's very, uh, classic supervillain aesthetic."

A forced chuckle follows, even if it's almost completely covered by the huff that Rick lets out.

"D-Daaaamn, Morty, are you trying to win t-the fuckin' lameness Olympics there? D-Did you seriously asked about the cape? O-Of all things? Jesus," the scientist mocks, rolling his eyes, but deep down he isn't as annoyed as he's trying to look.

Morty breaking the ice has given him a chance to prod the other man for information too.

"I-If you have to ask questions, t-try to ask decent one. L-Like...what the hell is the deal between you and that brain? Y-You could pick him up an-and use him as a football. I-Is it a kink? Your version of foreplay?" He shows the palms of his hands in a pacifying gesture. "N-No judgement if that's it. J-Just, you must really like being bossed around by him i-if you let him treat you like that all the time."

There is a moment of acknowledgment on Bebop's part over Morty's answer, but he doesn't get the chance to say anything before their bosses interfere. Orders are shouted their way by Krang, before the old man interferes about it. The henchmen stay on their spot, not sure at that moment whether they should be glad about that or actually offended.

As far as it concerns Krang, he takes full offense, of course. "PAH! I am too important to endanger myself like this! WHO do you think is going to stabilize and convert that energy to get us OUT of here?" Rick has a point, of course. But Krang refuses to acknowledge that his order was flawed in any way. At least he doesn't fully disagree. Instead, he turns to Shredder, who watched them with a hint of amusement before.

"Shredddderrr! YOU'll go and keep an eye on these two! I don't want them to run off with what's mine!" Shredder's amused look disappears as abruptly as he's now the one tasked with this annoying task. He had hoped that Krang would get offended enough to just go himself. But he underestimated how self-important that heaps of brain is after all.

"Me? Why don't you just go yourself?!" Maybe Krang would opt to go if he was only annoyed enough? But Krang brushes his second-in-command off quickly. "Enough! I won't repeat myself! Now stop wasting time and get on the MOVE!"

"But, boss--" Rocksteady starts in an attempt of protest, but the brain-like Alien just glares daggers at the rhino mutant right away. Any attempt to somehow redeem themselves gets suffocated right away.

"Man, that stinks. EY, Morty!? Don't get ya ass killed down there! We gotta jam later in the Technodrome!"

Shredder huffs and goes on ahead inside the cave without losing another word. As far as it concerns him, he just wants to get over with this as quick as possible. Socializing with these two unwanted allies is not part of that.

Such a traumatic experience, my mom was on the verge of throwing up.
