Working Title: Nine Lives (sequel to aqua vitae) Fandom: Baldur's Gate 3 Rating: Teen (non-explicit excerpt) Relationships: Rugan/Tav (Baldur’s Gate)

This is set post-game, so possible spoilers for the end of act 3.

Falling feels like flying. Tumbling through the sky, you feel like a rag doll cast out of an angry child’s pram.

One final tantrum from the Netherbrain in its death throes.

So this is how I go, you think. You feel strangely at peace, watching the water below rush towards you, smooth and serene as glass from up high. You look around at your friends, your eyes watering as the wind streams past your face. 

One last image to hold in your mind.

Gale reaches out, his hands moving in desperate patterns, even though you know that by now he’s burnt through every scrap of his reserves. At the same time, Astarion breaks the wax seal on a scroll with both hands. His catlike grace makes him appear seated in mid-air, suspended. He was always the better rogue.

You feel the gentle tug of transmutation magic, as you are lifted up by the scruff of your neck. Featherfall sparkles around you in the sunlight. You are still descending rapidly, but floating upright now. Spread out before you is the ruined cityscape, the harbour, the grey ships and their sails. Everything and everyone you’ve fought so hard for. 

You draw your arms and legs in, and shut your eyes.

The spell gives out three metres above the water, and you splash into the river. The cold water is a shock to your aching, battle-worn body. Your limbs seize up. You feel bubbles rush over and around you.

It takes a moment before your survival instincts kick in and your lungs begin to scream.

I want to live. 

The thought animates your leaden legs, forces them to flutter and kick. Thrashing your way upwards, you break the surface and gasp for air.

The end of the world has come and gone. You’ve survived.

The doors to the Elfsong are thrown wide open, and everyone in the city seems to be either passing through the bar, or spilling out into the streets with their drinks and singing loudly. The cellars have been emptied, and every bard in town seems to be playing on the same stage tonight. Commerce is the lifeblood of Baldur’s Gate, you recall Wyll saying. There’s nothing better for business than a near brush with death.

At some point, someone cast Prestidigitation on you, and pressed a hot drink into your hand. You clutch it numbly, the cup long grown cold.

Tomorrow, there will be a reckoning. You think about your remaining companions, your time together already coming to an end. So many goodbyes were already said that afternoon on the pier—you shake your head to interrupt the dismal thoughts. For now, you’re alive and that’s all that matters.

You can’t fault the people of Baldur’s Gate for celebrating. You would do the same if you were in their shoes.

The noise and press of the people around you is driving you mad. You put down your cup and push your way to the doors. All around you, the cheer goes up, red faces saluting you with their drinks. They hoot and holler, and shout your name.

“Tav! Tav! Tav!”

You smile and wave to your adoring crowd, as you edge your way to the exit. The roar of the tavern crowd fades as you leave their field of vision and they turn back to their revelry. You slip away from the crowd milling near the entrance and out into the night.

Most of the buildings in the Lower City are still standing, minus a few spires. Further away, folks stand around scattered bonfires, drinking and speaking more quietly.

You take in a deep breath and wrinkle your nose. The air is crisp but smells of acrid woodsmoke and ozone. Piles of illithid bodies are being burnt and tossed into collapsed doorways. Still, it’s better than being trapped indoors.

You exhale, and lean against a nearby facade that's intact. It feels like you’ve been holding your breath since you landed in the river.

“Now, that doesn’t sound very festive.” A gently chiding voice drifts over from the street.

You lift your head and watch its owner approach you, open bottle in hand. Of course he would be here, sauntering up to you, after half the city had been destroyed. This man clearly has nine lives.

“Rugan,” you say, and a smile breaks over his face. Exhausted as you are, you feel your lips quirk upwards in response.

“Tav.” He’s standing right in front of you now, and your body remembers a different night in a small room, lit by dim lamplight. You hope it’s not written all across your face.

“I like the hair piece,” he says, gesturing with the bottle.

Puzzled, you reach up towards your head and your hands close around a braided flower crown. Someone must have placed it on you in the tavern without you noticing. You pull it off, slowly, the wildflowers scattering tiny yellow and white petals as they catch in your hair. 

It hangs from your hands, loosely, as you glance between it and his amused face. “It’s been a very long day,” you say, finally, and he laughs.

“Long is an understatement, lass.” He offers you the bottle and you readily accept.

“Word on the street is that we have you and your crew to thank for all of us still being alive,” he says, as you take a sip. It tastes green and medicinal on your tongue. “Let me buy you a proper drink inside.”

Highsun liqueur. You lick your lips and sigh. 

“I shouldn’t.” You rub at your face and suppress a shudder at the thought of the roiling crowd in the Elfsong. “Sorry—I haven’t dared to have a drink all evening. If I accept one, I will have to drink them all, and then I'll wake up passed out in the Chionthar.”

He nods sagely, like it’s a dilemma that he’s encountered many times before. “Well, what would you like to do instead?” he asks, placidly. There’s no hint of leering or suggestion in his voice.

You’re stunned for a moment. No one’s asked you that question in a kindly manner, for a very long while. Gods and devils and their emissaries have hounded you relentlessly for what feels like forever, spurring you from one wild task to the next, the tadpole in your head all the while a ticking time-bomb.

“What should we do, Tav?” used to mean—which awful choice do we make now? Who gets to live? Who dies next?

For the first time in a long time, you can answer without despairing.

“I have an idea. Come with me.” Impulsively, you drop the flower crown on the ground, and take his hand. It’s large and warm against yours. 

He looks surprised, but doesn’t protest as you tug him towards the side of the tavern building, where fewer people are about. You hand the bottle back to him, and let go of his hand to rummage around in your satchel. With a flourish, you pull out the scroll of Dimension Door. You’ve earned this, all hundred gold pieces worth of it. No more scrimping and saving for the next fight. 

Linking your arms, you look at Rugan and flash him a perfectly ordinary, non-crazed grin. “Hold onto me,” you say, and crack the seal, teleporting you both to the rooftop of the Elfsong.

Mostly a generic Witcher series moodboard but I did make it while reading the Accidental Warlord series by @inexplicifics and I can only recommend everyone read it as well it's really good <3

The problem with reading extremely amazing more than book length with spin offs canon-divergence fic big on the divergence part? There's no way I'll go back to normal fic after this because this is way better than anything canon related! Oh well, it's nice while it lasts, and there are always other fandoms to go to for a long while until I've forgotten this series enough that I can read more canon compliant shit again xD

On the topic of forgetting things tho - I do that quite quickly and frequently, so I write summaries of longfics and series I read especially wips, and this one turned too long for the Ao3 bookmark - even though I'm only summarizing the main fics where the plot happens - so here we go instead! reading feb25, am at 21/1 making this post, but I'll keep updating the summary. Which, yeah, the rest of the post is my excuse to keep the summary on tumblr xD

Oh also, i had read the star wars version of this by BairnSidhe first before i even realized it's based on this! The fic is also very very good.

spoilers p1 - with a conquering air

Jaskier is sent as a tribute, given up as a sacrifice by his family and the other royalty, who think he'll be raped and killed by the Witchers.

When Eskel meets him in Kaer Mohen, he frees Jaskier from his bindings and brings him to Gerald and Yennefer. When she finds out he's a bard she decides Geralt needs a court bard, and Jaskier stays with them. He also tutors Ciri.

Jaskier finds that Geralt is kind, nice to Ciri, lets his friends tease him... and Geralt is hot. Jaskier starts falling in lust and love with him, and a year after he arrives they get together

spoilers p4 - only love proudly and gladly and well

Jaskier's home country negotiates a treaty with the Witchers. Jaskier rewrites the whole thing in their favor and accompanies the witchers and Yennefer there.

Jaskier helps clear up misconceptions about the Witchers to some younger court people, among them Milena of Roggeven, telling to them all about how nice the witchers treated him despite him being sent as a sacrifice, and how he fell in love with Geralt.

The witchers learn that way about him being a sacrifice in the first place. They have his father sent away, threatening to kill him should they ever see him again, and have the king sign the treaty without any changes.

Back home, several eligible women come to court Geralt. Yennefer and Jaskier make plans to make their stay miserable, as well as creating a set of rules for potential wives, including needing to accept Ciri as heir, and getting her approval for the position.

Jaskier also thinks about whether he wants his relationship with Geralt to be made official and decides that if Geralt wants that, he wants it too.

Milena is one of the ladies in waiting sent with the women, befriends Jaskier and falls in love with Lambert.

A princess attacks Jaskier, he survives, she is sent home via portal accompanied by angry witchers. The other women are kicked out, except Milena who swears loyalty.

spoilers p9 - your faults had made me love you more

Milena finds her place in Kaer Moen, teaching Ciri, helping Yennefer with Geralt's correspondence, sending letters home, helping Triss in the still, doing embroidery, learning dagger fighting from Lambert and teaching him to braid her hair.

Milena gets together with Lambert

Zofia, a human fighter woman and another witcher's lover, has some advice for her: to wait until she's ready to sleep with him, where a more private place to bathe is during her monthlies, and that witchers' lovers end up almost as immortal as the witchers themselves.

spoilers p11 - Twirl Three Notes and Make a Star

The witcher is invited to an even festival. Jaskier, Ciri and 13 witchers incl Eskel journey there also so Jaskier and Ciri won't be home for the Witcher Trials. They save a family of elves from a monster and Ciri befriends the kid.

Eskel and Jaskier grow closer. Jaskier knows Geralt would take Eskel to bed if he asked and suspects Eskel thinks the same of Geralt. Once they meet at the festival all three get together.

Jaskier meets a historian elf and invites him to Kaer Morhen to write the Witcher histories.

spoilers p14 - I Have Heart-Fire and Singing to Give

At some point I think before this part

Jaskier goes to Oxenfurt with Milena and 20 witchers to guard them incl Eskel and Lambert. During his performance, Milena is kidnapped through a portal and before they can do anything Jaskier is kidnapped through another one, Eskel stabbed as he follows them.

The plot was made by Milena's sister Marta, the princess Agatha who stabbed Jaskier before, and a sorceress. Marta wants the shame of her sister living with witchers removed from her family, Agatha just wants revenge.

Jaskier bandages Eskel, Milena has hairpins to unlock their shackles and hidden daggers from Lambert. When they confront them, Agatha tries to stab Milena and Milena kills her. Jaskier knocks out the sorceress, and the spell hiding them is lifted so Yennefer can find them.

Marta begs them not to have her actions affect her family and their little sister Marika. Jaskier offers for Marta to go into exile in a part of the wolf's country where they stopped on their way to an elf festival, in return for the baron's daughter becoming another lady in waiting for Ciri, so Marta won't have to be killed

spoilers p20 - The Debt Is Terrible That Must Be Paid In Song

Jaskier is temporarily turned into 6y/o Julian, scared of his own father and any adult men in power.

Smelling his dear and being angry of his father's treatment of him, Aubrey, who looks out for him like an older brother, realizes the treatment of the witchers-to-be is wrong. Once Jaskier is turned back, it is put to a vote, and decided that the training will change - from now on they will be trained like Ciri is, and she will train with them.

Spoilers p24 - the Shadow of the Mountains Will Not Fall

Geralt is dangerously injured in a plot by the king of temeria. He lives but requires many potions. Ciri organizes the trainees to help brew more while Jaskier organizes the rest of the castle.

Eskel kills the king and anyone else in the plot, then puts Griffin, a minor baron from the countryside who had no idea what's going on, on the throne.

In p25 we learn Emhyr var Emreis actually had something to do with the plot. He then learns who Ciri is and decides they need to try diplomacy instead.

Spoilers p28 - Found At Last In Meeting Eyes

Griffin, the new King of Temeria, needs a wife to establish his lineage and to help him rule the basically completely new court because everyone from the old one was killed... he asks the Warlord for aid in finding him a wife.

He has help from his older sister Tara in running the household, but they're worried about their youngest sister, 14 y/o Nix, who is a wildling and wouldn't do well at court, and while that's alright for a baron's youngest, it's not for a princess, and she'd be in danger if left home for much longer but miserable at court or married off... He and Tara decide that it will be a good question to pose to any potential wives(queens), will they try to break Nix's spirit or understand the true difficulties or even have valuable advice?

Marika, middle sister of Roggeven, decides that Milena is the only person in her family worth anything, and also her only chance at a good life, and begs her sister to find her a husband. She takes her dowry and her loyal maid Kasia and two guards and leaves for Kaer Morhen.

Jaskier introduces Marika and Griffin without telling them their true identities, so Marika only learns he's a king once she's already interested in him. Milena reassures her that she's a proper match for a king - not just a duke's daughter, but basically a sister by marriage to the Warlord through Milena and Lambert.

Marika suggests Nix could be a lady in waiting for Ciri.

P30 - Oh, Be For Me The Sky

Cat witcher Dragonfly comes across Livi, young noble Redanian noblewoman Oliwia, while on patrol, and Livi begs sanctuary from the White Wolf. She's fleeing from an arranged marriage to an older noble known for killing his wives and other young girls.

Livi stays in Kaer Morhen as Eskel's secretary and falls in love with Dragonfly.

Because the king clearly isn't keeping his nobles under control, Geralt wants to declare war on Redania.

P35 - Into the Light Out of Darkness

They plan to go Redania and observe to find more obvious breeches of the treaty because Cintra etc would be mad about conquering for just some 'minor' infractions. The plan is to go on 'progress' touring the established territory + visiting Redania to talk to the king about what's going on there and hopefully find a good reason to get rid of him

Meanwhile, Milena's friend Aleksander 'Sasha' is made Duke after the old Duke Oliwia was supposed to marry dies. Aleksander learns from the King and a mage that they have taken a witcher prisoner in Aleksander's new home and are using his blood on girls turning them into almost-witchers but killing most of them in the process. The Mage makes it so he can't talk about it to anyone, and stays with him to watch his correspondence. He has a magic box for writing Milena though and secretly sends her a letter.

Now, the Witchers have a reason to go to war. King Eist of Cintra and young Prince(?) Xenon of (?)(can't keep the damn names straight) bear witness to make sure Calanthe etc won't think the Warlord is conquering for no reason. They go to free the Witcher and young Zia, an outspoken former peasant girl, and Maja, Ada and Elena, burn down the house, then go kill the king. Aleksander comes to Kaer Morhen, his brother is the new Duke.

P38 - That Is Born Out Of Agony

(skipped C1 bc rape warning) Renfri, after killing a man who meant to hurt her, and on the run from mage Stragomir, decides to go to the Witchers for justice, even if they will slay her because she is cursed. If anyone kills her, it should be the White Wolf.

She stumbles into a dwarf tunnel, and journeyman Gilmeth takes her to his family home. Renfri uses the name Shrike and doesn't say she's royal. Gilmeth's grandfather has business with the Wolf (Renfri's stepmother allows mistreatment of nonhumans) and takes her and Gilmeth through dwarven routes to the mountain. Once they get back above ground, Stregomir finds them, but so do two witchers, they put an anti magic chain on him and Renfri and they all swear not to do harm, she swears not to do them harm of her free will, and they're taken to Kaer Morhen.

Geralt slays Strgomir for his lies and allows Renfri to stay as long as she likes. Ciri introduces her to Zofia. The dwarves also stay and design a better gatehouse as Gilmeth's mastery. Renfri's stepmother is killed by Witcher Coën who Renfri befriends, Renfri's father didn't know but also doesn't seem to care about her much except trying to avoid looking at her because she looks like his late wife. Renfri stays in Kaer Morhen.

P44 - Flung to Catch a Star

Emrys of Nilfgard sends prince Morvran Voorhis to negotiate a treaty with the White Wolf.

When Letho and other witchers meet the Nilfgardians and have them swear not to harm anyone in Kaer Morhen, three groomers and Morvran's personal manservant lie. The manservant had orders from a Nilfgardian royal (Evertsen not Emrys) to kidnap Ciri, the groomsmen had orders to hurt the horses, two for their own gain, one, Ilimar Laret, because his Lord threatened Laret's wife. He's taken with them and the wife rescued, the rest is killed.

Morvran has orders to both get the treaty and win Ciri's hand in marriage, and didn't expect that she's not open for political marriage, or any marriage until she's 18. When Geralt asks him why he even wants to be emperor, and explains that he and Ciri will be leaders only to protect people, Morvran reconsiders and vows to be a man the Witchers can respect.

Morvran's knight bodyguard(?) Cahir spends time with the oldest Witcher trainees, a mixed school group incl. Eryk, who has a puppy love crush on Eskel. Cahir is in Emrys service as a political hostage, and comes to trust and believe in Movran properly during their time in Kaer Morhan when Movran invites him to speak freely, listens to him, takes him into his personal service, and offers him use of his first name in private. Sergeant Hanif is also part of some of their meetings.

Geralt says no treaty as long as Evertsen has any power, Emrys sends them Evertson as a prisoner and he's killed. Yennefer can make portals to and from Nilfgard much easier than should be possible, Jaskier suspects it's because she's getting so much practice.

While treaty proceedings are underway, Princess Rhiannon of Poviss comes to ask for Poviss to join the Warlord's lands because it's the sensible thing to do. Geralt accepts and it will be official when they'll visit Poviss during Progress. When Cahir hears of this, he's at first angry because Poviss gives up the kind of independence his own country (Vicovaro) wishes it had from Nilfgard, but he understands Wolfland isn't Nilfgard.

I had just moved to LA. As I was unpacking the truck and into my new home, I accidentally bumped into someone dropping all my boxes.

"SHIT!" "I am so sorry!" said the guy I bumped into.

I looked up too meet a pair of blue eyes.

"It's okay.. Don't worry about it.." I said picking up my things from the floor. He then bent down and helped me with putting my stuff back into the boxes. "So.. You're my new neighbor?" he asked smiling at me. "Yeah..Just moved here." I said looking at him. Now realizing that his smile is gorgeous. His jawline is the best I've seen. "I'm Matt by the way.." he said giggling. I was immediately brought back to reality after hearing his voice. "Oh right.. My name is Y/N.. It's lovely to meet-" "MATT?! Where did you go?" a boy looking exactly like Matt comes out. Matt could see the confusion on my face. "OH.. Y/N.. This is my brother Chris, Chris.. This is our new neighbor." "It's great to meet you Chris!" I said looking at him. He looks exactly like Matt but I could definitely tell the difference. "Is this the last of your boxes?" "Yeah. how do you reach the askblog demographic you want?? Me & a friend recently started one and we have very little interaction despite trying to tag relevant things, advertise on our main blogs, etc. Also just tips for starting one in general would be appreciated lmao

I've gone over tips for how to start an askblog [here], but as for the rest:

A.) Make sure that you actually are an askblog and not an RP blog. Some people will use those terms interchangeably or call their RP blogs askblogs and those are not the same thing. This is actually a very common problem. If you are doing RP stuff but calling it an askblog people will not send you askblog asks because they will assume you are a mislabeled RP blog. Sometimes also vice versa. Making sure it is labeled appropriately will make sure people are going to interact more because they can identify your blog more clearly. If you're unsure about the difference, I have a rough definition:

A tumblr askblog is generally defined as any tumblr blog in which there is a subject/focus on a “muse”/character to whom followers/the audience can direct questions to via the blog’s inbox. The “mun”/mod/admin(s) of the blog will respond to these questions in-character. This is different from a roleplay blog, in which the audience always plays the role of characters the blog’s muse will interact with directly, usually providing a narrative prompt to reply to/continue off of. Askblogs can be of a variety of formats, including illustrated/“drawn-response” askblogs, text-response askblogs, cosplay askblogs, voice acting askblogs, and more.

B.) Be careful when you tag things - if you are cross-tagging too much (i.e. posting about one character but tagging another character not referenced) people in those tags may actually block you, or tumblr may flag you as a bot. You can usually tell if your blog accidentally got flagged because your inbox and messaging icons will disappear when you look at your blog's dashboard preview. Do not crosstag! It is never a good thing on tumblr and will never help you. Only tag stuff that's strictly and entirely relevant. In PJO-sphere the only real exception to this is tagging anything PJO related "Percy Jackson" because that is both the series and the character, so people will not get on your case for that. That one is fine, nobody really cares. "Riordanverse" is the common all-encompassing tag for all PJO-universe series and etc though.

Other than that, making original posts frequently and having original posts on your blog that people are more likely to reblog (ex: normal fanart outside of askblog asks, shitposts/memes, etc) will help people find your blog more. People are not likely to reblog advertisement posts, but will reblog general fanart and memes. Try not to reblog too much stuff to your blog especially at first because that clutters it a lot and people will have a harder time figuring out what your askblog is like when you're actually answering asks (also only original posts count towards your blog appearing in tag searches and etc).

C.) I actually have a dedicated blog for this exact type of thing - @askblog-index. The format there is basically people submit an index of their askblog and that gets posted so people can filter for specific fandoms or other criteria to find askblogs they might be looking for. Because looking for askblogs can be difficult in the tumblrsphere. I usually post indexes pretty quickly so if you submit one I will absolutely get on that.

As some extra tips, make sure you enable your blog's custom theme (you don't have to do much setting up for the theme itself, though if you want it is really easy to do so. Recently I've quite enjoyed the theme Vision, though particularly for askblogs you can never go wrong with good ol' Redux). Double and triple check your inbox is open. And in your blog settings there is a "featured tags" thing that you can edit - edit your blog's featured tags to whatever the subject of your askblog is. Fandom, main character(s) of the blog, the terms "askblog"/"askblogs," etc etc all that jazz. This feature literally tells tumblr how to recommend your blog to people.

okay i have a few but i'll only go into detail on the one that irks me the most, because if I didn't limit myself, it'd be a whole charcater analysis.

edit: i've accidentally written an argumentative essay. whoops.

Before we start I want to really quickly iterate that I am not a psychologist. I also highly encourage debate on any of my intepretations, so if you feel like there's a point to be made against this one, please feel free to send a counterargument!

There is a difference between Cyrus not liking or caring about people, and Cyrus being fully antisocial, which is a personality disorder. The way people portray Cyrus bugs me often because a lot of fic writers give him Antisocial Personality Disorder, and I do not mesh with that at all.

I got into a big argument with someone on this before, where the main argument was me being insensitive, and I am not trying to be. I'm trying to be informational.

One of the main symptoms of ASPD is hostility and cruelty. Cyrus isn't actually very hostile. His main showcase of hostility is when you attempt to stop something he's spent years of hard work moving towards. In my mind, that's a pretty expected reaction. Think about it, if your entire life you were working towards something like curing a disease, for example, and when you were on the verge of breakthrough, a 10 year old kid came along and wrecked your lab? You're probably not going to be like "Ah, I see. This is fine, you are a child." You're going to be rightfully angry.

Another main symptom is impulse issues and lack of self-restraint. Cyrus doesn't have that. He's actually really calm and collected, and his entire thing is that he's ominously calm throughout times of disaster. He's highly intelligent and calculated. He doesn't make very many impulse decisions.

It's not a good argument if I don't discuss the other side of the debate, so I can think of a few reasons why people think Cyrus is antisocial, and some arguments against them.

1. Cyrus is described on his Bulbapedia page as "asocial".

Asocial ≠ ASPD. Asocial is an aversion to social interaction, not a disregard for others and human life.

2. Cyrus wants to create a world entirely for himself, and doesn't care what happens to other people.

While I don't have a concrete argument here, I do know that personally, I would have wanted the same thing before I learned the coping mechanisms to accept that the people that forged me into a wreck don't define me today. Cyrus most likely never had access to the resources necessary to develop coping mechanisms. He doesn't want to hurt all of these people, but instead sees it as a necessary step in finding comfort in himself, albeit in a messed up way.

3. Cyrus manipulates his team for the end goal of only helping himself.

This isn't in doubt. He's definitley psychologically disturbed, but the manipulation is a product of his environment. He rarely interacted with people as a child, so the majority of his interaction came from his family, who were, as we already discussed, not the best. He most likely learned this behavior from his parents. Also, he's not the only villain who lies to his team to benefit himself. They're all manipulative liars in their own rite, so using it as an argument doesn't really mean much to me.

I think it's good to remember that many people with disorders like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), PTSD, and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) are misdiagnosed as having ASPD.

I personally think that Cyrus has a combonation of mental problems that elevate each other to extremes. In my eyes, it presents this way because the adults in his life didn't care enough to help him learn the coping mechanisms he needed to combat the adverse symptoms.

I see him having Depression and C-PTSD due to issues with his family during his childhood. I think there's one mention of his parents in the entire series, where they're described as being consistently dissapointed in him and uncaring, which is enough for it to be mentioned on his wiki as a keystone in his past, and a turning point to why he is the way he is. From this, I think I can safely assume gamefreak is referring to, if not alluding to emotional abuse, which during key years of a person's brain development, can have lasting consequences on a person, such as the symptoms of C-PTSD, anxiety, depression, social withdrawal, loss of sense of self, and admittedly, ASPD. I personally don't see him having Anxiety as the level of social ability he displays seems adequate enough that he wouldn't qualify for a diagnosis.

I do also see him having ASD, as it's commonly overlooked for children who have advanced intellectual ability at young ages, yet delayed social and emotional development. As someone with ASD, my actual medical charts, above ASD, say "Delayed social and emotional development", as they are, to my understanding, 99% of the time a package deal.

To conclude, my biggest Cyrus pet peeve is when authors give him antisocial personality disorder.

NOTE: While I'm not anti self-diagnosis, diagnosing yourself or strangers on the internet, let alone using information from strangers on the internet, is a bad idea. Please don't do it in the replies to this post. This is purely about a fictional character, and if you think that any of this applies to you, talk to your therapist before you make any hard statements regarding your psyche.

I wanted to ask how to keep yourself motivated to write these long series?

Hello my love!!

The answer is that I don't always!! I cannot advocate enough for the importance of taking a break from something you're getting burnt out on. I see a lot of people beating themselves up for not being able to power through things and just finish them up, but in my experience that only hurts your creative process and leads to you disliking the work!! And the most important thing about writing fic is not finishing it, it's enjoying it, because it's a hobby!

For example, I accidentally took nearly a year-long hiatus from incendiary because I find it tough to write and review due to the seriousness of some of the undertones!! And I think doing so was absolutely the right call, because I was able to keep writing by working through and completing other, easier projects like fingerprints and Deceiving the Duke, which let me build my confidence back up to return to incendiary recently!!

I think it can also help to write little drabbles or one-shots in between chapters of a longer fic, to help scratch the itch for diversity! Which leads me to another point:

You want to spend time identifying what is the appropriate length of a fic for you at this point in time. I have aspirations of writing like 160K word fics like @/ofmermaidstories, but I find that I get antsy as I get close to the 25K mark and start wanting to work on something else.

So instead, I've slowly been building up the average length of my fics over time (like, cover shot was 16K, savvy was 17K and conspire was only 13K(!!) compared to my most recently-completed fics Deceiving the Duke at 30K and fingerprints at 38K). But this is only because I started from the bottom and learned to close out fics on a smaller scale first; it makes it easier to gradually work your way up to writing a longer fic if you're doing it by adding maybe only one chapter or 1K extra at a time!!

The last point I will make is making sure you're planning your fic in the way that is most helpful to your process. For me, I can't continue to write if I don't have a full roadmap ahead of me, and don't know which points I should be hitting chapter-to-chapter. So I have to make sure I plan my fics out in advance to the appropriate level of detail in order to ensure I'm equipped to keep going. On the other side of things, some people think that planning a fic out too much is akin to already writing it, and they lose interest in completing it, as they already sort of feel it's concluded!! So I would think about what level of planning will help you stay motivated, and make sure you're sticking with that!!

So I'll be honest, sometimes I struggle to write a lot. I've only recently gotten out of a mental brain fog and I have the ateez concert to thank for that. The massive bursts of inspiration I've had lately are due entirely to that concert because that was an ✨️ experience ✨️. I'm gonna put everything under a read more so the post isn't too long cause sometimes I be yappin lol

The main way I'm able to write longer fics is by establishing a detailed setting. Worldbuilding is one of my favorite parts for longer fics and series. I spend a lot of time early on in the planning period doing research, making sketches, floorplans, and finding inspiration pics for my fictional towns, cities, and worlds.

I also make character profiles for all series to establish their likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, fears, goals, etc. It helps with my worldbuilding. The more detailed a fic, the more details in the character profile!

Another major thing I do is sit down and decide what my main conflict is in the story and how do I want to resolve it? I then write down major plot points and keep a note of all of these in a Google doc. Then I can start outlining around these plot points. Outlining sometimes takes the most time for me because I tend to change my mind sometimes. For chapters, I like to establish a climax for each but nothing that would overshadow the main conflict. I also write above the outline for each scene so I don't stray too far from it but still have room to wiggle. I also tend to let the story do what it wants and add things or change them around a bit as I write. I also implement rough, second, third, and even final drafts for stories.

I also sometimes share what I have done so far with my close friends/mutuals on here to get their opinions and that also helps motivate me to keep going! @yoonguurt @anyamaris and @nebulousbrainsoup see a lot of my sneak peeks or get access to docs to read, give feedback, and help with grammatical errors. I also take a lot of screenshots of some parts and send those to them on discord without any context and when they scream, it motivates me to keep it up lol I like to torture my friends with content about their faves. It fuels me (:<

For some series, I like to make playlists to listen to when working on them. I pick songs I feel embody the characters and plot as well as some that just sound like they fit the vibe. And sometimes one song really gets my brain going and I play it on repeat until I'm sick of it (Halazia has been my saving grace with these Library of Illusion prequels. I put it on and my brain just does the thing. It's like magic).

I also have a plethora of visual content to help me when I'm feeling like I don't know where to go. It's silly but I make a ton of moodboards for stories that never get shared on here because they're just to motivate me.

I also use tools like sprint bots in discord to force me to get something down. I'm competitive by nature so I like to use sprinto which tells you your wpm at the end and if you sprint with others, it ranks you by who has the fastest wpm. Sometimes I get up to 80 wpm with that thing.

I also like to make goals for my wips, in the form of word counts, plot devices, etc and when I reach those goals, I can either close out the fic or set a new goal. Most of my goals are word counts. I take into consideration how long the outline is and pick a reasonable word count that I think I could hit. And sometimes, I don't hit that goal and that's okay because if I finish writing and I'm happy with it, that's all that matters really.

Most of the time, I churn out anywhere from 5 to 10k because I've been doing this for 6 years now. And sometimes I sit down and accidentally write 40k and edit down to 30 because I can't seem to stop yappin lol

I highly enjoy reading stories with intricate plots and lots of worldbuilding so that's what I like to put out ((:

It's not easy for sure and sometimes I do lose inspiration but when that happens, I always change gears and work on something else for a while. I do this often within one story. If a scene I'm working on just isn't flowing, I'll move to another scene. For oneshots, I often write the smut first and then write around it. I never write from start to finish unless it's something under like 5k. I'm always bouncing around from scene to scene lol

And as far as time, I work a job where I'm able to pick my own hours and shifts. I was also sick with covid for half of August so I had a LOT of time to sit at my laptop and just write lol as football season in America picks up, I'll have less time than I did while I was sick lol

So after finishing Call A Responsible Adult, my mind has been very flitty about what to write now. So as was suggested I've decided to do a poll to tell me what people want to see.

Day 6 - Ch2 Maybe Next Time He'll Think - Roy and Keeley have to manage and help Jamie through his breakdown at nearly killing his dad and try to make sure Jamie doesn't go to prison

Day 9 - Ch2 A Treatment Room Doors Moment - Both Jamie and Roy sulk after the end of the season and finding themselves lost and uncertain. Corwin gets dragged even further into this, Jamie texting is as irritating as Jamie talking and Roy decides what to do about his knee

Day 10 - Fool Me Twice, Shame on Me - Jamie spirals into isolating himself with Zava arrives, Zava doesn't like Jamie refusing to join Team Zava and starts to emotionally torment Jamie

Day 11/21 - untitled kidnapping fic - Denbo and Bug think Jamie is in Manchester during the off season and decide to rob his house. Turns out Jamie is in Richmond and they "accidentally" kidnap him

Day 12 - untitled death threats fic - Sam speaks out about politics again and this time starts getting hyper specific death threats. He can't sleep out of fear. Jamie helps.

Day 17 - Ch3 That's Chaos Theory - The usually tactile Jamie has a bad morning and then a melt down. Doesn't want anyone to touch him.

Day 18 - Fight, Flight or Kneecap - Roy decides to try another bizarre training strategy by blindfolding the strikers and having them take shots so they develop goal finding instinct. Jamie doesn't deal well with people approaching him when he can't see them.

Day 20 - untitled Jamie Babysitter fic - Phoebe has a cup final for her under 11 team and Coach Roy is out with the flu so can't come along. The Richmond boys come together to support her and make her feel better.

Day 26 - Sleep is for the Weak or Sleep for the Week - Roy is so stressed about being the manager he overworks himself. Jamie makes sure he rests

Day 29 - Ch4 Snap - After confronting his dad Jamie realises that he's pushing away everyone who cares about him and asks Beard for help understanding other people's feelings and being vulnerable without reflexively being a prick

tauria hi!!! first of all let me say i did a flappy hands happy lil dance seeing this because i genuinely did not expect anyone to respond to the ask game. i am Thrilled. thank you <3

22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?

unfortunately, as much as i hate google ideologically, i am a google docs lad through and through. i just have like 1.5 mil words between all my writing & can't bring myself to spend days moving it all somewhere else when i genuinely (evil) like (evil) the (evil) gdocs (evil) interface (evil). i organize my works by fandom and have folders for each of my WIPs & another folder for various drabbles. both of my big WIPs have like. at least 30 documents each so i also have one document that puts them all in chronological order and links each fic so i don't have to sort through all those folders.

24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?

hm. prep implies that i do this ahead of time and i Do Not. every in-depth long-ass WIP i have started out as like a 2k drabble and took on a life of its own. so i end up doing the organization and planning as i go. this also suggests i have Control over my stories and that is also not true. i am beholden to the Whims of my brain. all of this to say i rough out the plot & i have docs that organize timelines in a weird bastardized bullet point list sort of way. i tend to write my fics very out of order because the 'connecting' pieces in between are very hard for me and if i try to write everything chronologically nothing will ever be finished. i love following the joy. i hate writing the in between parts. i also hate making those plot diagrams and timelines, i find it tedious and my little brain goes humph. why am i doing this. i already know this why am i writing it down. but the thing is if i don't then when i inevitably accidentally take a 6-month hiatus from writing i won't remember anything.

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

jason todd is my favorite character and roy harper is close behind. when i wrote Can I Help You Not To Hurt Anymore? and The Null HypotheCis back-to-back before returning to Jason and Roy's relationship in A City of Phantoms and Fistfights it felt like seeing an old friend for the first time in years. i feel like their chemistry writes itself and writing never feels more effortless than when i'm writing those idiots pining for each other. all of that being said the most delight i've ever felt while writing a character is the slade wilson i created for my Local Man Stans Bloodsoaked Stranger series. this is because he is a ginormous prick with a heart of gold silver bronze, maybe? LMSBS let me play with finding justifications for characters to behave very differently than they do in canon while challenging myself to still write them as in-character as possible (a Batman that kills, a roy that has his shit together, etc) which made space for a slade who has friends (but would never admit it). i am a goody-two-shoes in real life and i can't stand making anyone feel bad or being mean or rude, so writing him was definitely wish fulfillment for the snarky mean thing in me that wants to be let out of its cage every once in a while. i also love finding ways to say i love you, i trust you, i don't want a life without you in it without using those words because Slade Would Never, but exploring how he would go about making connections after losing his wife and kids was so fucking delightful.

Just wanted to tell you again how great your series is!!! I have ADHD and you're my current hyperfixation...(and honestly have been since I discovered MiT), and I'm I fall in love every time I re-read.

So I have a few questions, is your next chapter going to be MiF or SiC? And if its MiF where are we in the timeline? And whose Pov?

Question 2! So we, as readers, know that Brian thinks that Dom is the best thing since sliced bread. No, wait since Easter. But does Dom know this yet? Beause I'm still getting some 'I can't fuck this up vibes' everytime that Dom has to bring up something even a little uncomfortable, but in Brians Pov hes giving Dom a gold star at least once a day.

Its my headcannon that eventually Brian pulls a Dom and buys some stars and starts handing them out for every worthy event. But it's not just gold stars, it's the whole bronze, silver, and gold range! I just know that Dom would be genuinely touched while the team would be having a 'WTF is going on' moment the first day

I also have another headcannon that Brians not just slipping his gold stars in his drawer, but he accidentally made himself a star chart by getting himself a journal and putting his newly earned stars in there and making notes about how/why he could have earned this one. He would be acting like a criminal investigator trying to solve a mystery. And if Brian would start gifting some stars, Dom would be doing the same thing. Every star would be an absolute mystery to him, and he would need to figure it out so be could earn more, but Brians reasons would be so off the wall to him. There would be mass confusion.

Another question... what are the personalities of the Kelly Clan? (I saw this name in the comments, and I fell in love, lol) I know that Brian should probably get a break, but the angst would be too good if they weren't. Also, I definitely know that they would not be ready for the feral disaster that Brian is. The team has had more than two years with Brian, and they still get surprised by him constantly. The Doyles could not handle the chaos.

I also kinda wanna see the Toretto Family (the aunties and uncles) going absolutely feral at the idea of someone trying to take away Dom's skinny white boy. My heart would attempt to burst if the entire family showed up to some official type of meeting for moral support or something...

Anyway, this is already really long, and I should probably end my thought process here...

Re: MiF or SiC - Definitely SiC, I have another story posting right now so there won't be any MiF until I finish that, so minimum a few weeks. I have a few options for what it could be so I'm unsure. Dom's POV or non-Dom's POV to be contemplated. If you have feelings on that feel free to weigh in (no guarantees, lol, the muse goes where the muse goes, especially when the muse in question is supposed to be blessing me with editing powers).

Question 2 - All of the revelations in the hotel after the punch definitely helped Dom understand that a shift has happened in Brian regarding his trust in Dom and his (un)willingness to leave. Though we haven't had a Dom's POV of this post-punch shift yet we're seeing Dom acting with this in mind in SiC - for instance he pushes Brian to read that letter and buy the clothes when before he might have done more tiptoeing around it or backed down if Brian got mad. So he definitely understands that in Brian's eyes he's doing a lot better than Dom often thinks himself. Debatable if he agrees but still a balm to the weary soul.

Stars - I live for all of these stars thoughts! Especially the bit about Dom having to figure out his stars. If he started getting told about (or handed) his stars then he would definitely be confused by some of them. Brian hands them out for some offbeat things sometimes lol. We will continue to see the stars being awarded mentally and literally! We perhaps might even have things coming that are relevant to your interests... ;)

Kelly Clan - Technically they're the Doyle Clan lol but I like Kelly Clan too. I WANT to talk about them but alas even though I'm cool with letting little spoilers slip on tumblr, the big spoilers must remain unspoiled. Also, I want you to wonder about them and their intentions just like Brian is. An immersive experience, if you will ;) That letter won't be the last we see of them though!

The Torettos - Unfortunately we aren't going to see loads of them in SiC but I do love writing for them. I have some MiF I'm working on that includes them more, including ones we haven't seen in the main story yet, so hopefully I get those finished to share :)

Shepard does not play along, and angsts quite a bit over it, but happy ending in the end for Shepard/Liara

Done With My Graceless Heart - SwanQueen Season 1 Au where Regina's love for Henry overcomes her desire to keep the curse going, and she helps him find Emma knowing it will end the curse.

Someone has Already Claimed that Username - SwanQueen tumblr-centric AU. Assumes canon for most of the fic, but Emma and Regina are both on tumblr, though Emma doesn't know the person sending her hate messages (at first) is Regina.

Fighting For A Better End To Our Fairytale - Snow White/Regina fic where Regina lost all her memories of the Enchanted Forest when she was trying to forget Henry's origins, and she and Mary Margret fall in love. Then the curse breaks. Angst and drama and romance ensue.

Kara is Terrible at Keeping Secrets - Supercorp Oneshot collection, all the different ways Kara being Supergirl might slip to Lena. Very fun, a perennial re-read for me.

The Accidental Proposal - Based off of one of the oneshots in the above collection, this is a Supercorp Fic where Lena doesn't know Kryptonians propose with bracelets, and gives one as a gift to Supergirl (not knowing Supergirl is Kara, the girl she's been crushing on for a while). Shennanigans ensue.

This Ascent to Divinity is Lewder Than Expected - An Original Fiction slow-paced but very good Gamelit F/F story (featuring a Futanari MC and a lot of futanari elements in general). Very explicit, as the title would suggest, though a lot more than just smut. MC starts to get a harem of lovers as well. Has one of the best tsunderes I've ever read as the first character MC meets, absolutely what sold me on the story when I first read it.

Dungeons and Dalliances - Another slow paced Original Work by the author of Ascent, also Futa/Harem F/F story. MC aspires to be an adventurer, and gets an unusual, but powerful class - and it comes with a dick between her legs, and she gets powerups the more sex and sex-related activities she has, along with the Dungeon putting her and her compatriots into sex-related fights and puzzles.

You Are Mine - When she was dosed with RedK in season 1, Kara meets Lena, they have a whirlwind few days, but Kara gets increasingly obsessive and possessive while under the influence of Red Kryptonite. Angst/Drama, but happy ending.

Hi! I've seen some of your posts about mairuma and from other fandoms. I got curious to know what your opinion is on Mairuma in general. you write a lot! That's amazing. I'm not asking for long answer that can consume a lot of your precious time but I'd love to know who your favourite character (s) is, favourite ships, theories, arcs, expectations and any such things in regarding mairuma. Okay let's do this.

So my opinion/s on Mairuma, let's start with the main boy himself.

Like most anime protags, he is selfless and kind, which is nice. But unlike most anime protags, he is like that for a very unique reason.

Iruma in and of himself is kind, that's just who he is, an inherent part of him. But selflessness isn't. Selflessness isn't a choice for Iruma, it's something that he believes is expected of him at all times. He doesn't know any better, he truly believes that if it comes down to him or anyone else, Literally anyone else takes priority. No matter WHO that anyone else might be.

And I love the show because while it's nice that Iruma is kind and selfless sometimes, almost everyone in the show tells him in one way or another, that it's okay, and needed, for him to be selfish sometimes.

His teachers scold him for not calling them when he's in trouble, Azz-Azz tells him how important he is all the time, and I don't really have to tell you how down his Grandpa is for selfishness sometimes.

Now that I think of it, it's not even really selfishness, it's simply knowing his own worth.

Funnily enough, Iruma himself believes that people need to learn to say no, he meets Clara and tells her he doesn't need her to give him things for him to be her friend, and a true friend wouldn't need that.

The very first time Iruma asked Azz-Azz for something, he asked him to help Clara, to talk to the demons that were bothering her, so he knows it's okay to need to put yourself first, he just can't apply that to himself because of past trauma, and that's just such a new and fresh take, I couldn't help but love this series.

And initially, I started watching the series because I saw a clip of when Iruma first met Sullivan.

And I'm a sucker for found family troupes, and Slightly-Kidnapped family sounded pretty funny so I decided to watch an episode.

And the more I watched, the more I loved. I was hooked!

The suspense of having to keep his human origins secret?

The "I beat you up so now we're friends" happening accidentally and being taken in a hilariously literal way??

The encouragement to strive towards a Goal???

More and More of the Misfit Class getting introduced until we could instantly recognize them and their individual personalities and seeing them each as having a place in the show????

The best Girl Clara Valac?????

I'm so excited for more! And it has a way of me both wanting more and being content with what I've got.

I want to know the backstory and I'm okay if this just continues to be Iruma's story without delving to deep into what happened with the previous demon king.

I want to see the prophecy completed and I'm okay if that happens to not be Iruma.

I want to see Iruma's scumbag parents get their comeuppance and I'm okay if we never see them again because they're not important to Iruma anymore, he's left them in the past where they belong.

You could ask me about almost any character and I could give ample reason as to why I LOVE them so much!

In fact, do! Tell people to send their fav in and I'll ramble for as long as I can! There is 1 exception to this rule but what are the chances they get sent in? lmao

My favorite Ship? To be perfectly honest? I don't really ship anyone, I think it's because they're all kids rn and I'm more into platonic relationships, but I don't dislike most of the ships I've seen.

The only one I see as a ship would probably be Balam-Sensei and Eggy-Teach.

They're just the IT couple of Bablys.

My favorite character is Andro M. Jazz.

Big brother types hit me where I live, I always wanted a big brother like that, instead I got five different flavors of Andro M. Rock. -_-

Jazz's Big Brother complex is one of the cutest fucking things I've ever seen my GOSH! I love that out of all the demons in the Misfit class, he's the big brother of the group, followed by Gaap and then Iruma as decided during the after party scene.

I love all the Misfit Class though, send me Your fav and I can expand upon thusly.

Theories? Only one, Alikred is the Previous demon king Derkila, either his soul, his magic, or actually all of him that's been sealed away in the Ring of Gluttony.

I mean come on, his name is literally Derkila spelled backwards. In the anime, he and the demon king have the Same FREAKING VOICE ACTOR! So either it's him or he's one hell of a fanboy. Which I can respect.

Also I love that we as the fandom have Eiko Oni as the Stand-In for what would happen if any of us ever met anyone in the show, God bless her Bi Soul, we're proud to have her in our ranks.
