打鐵花 (da2tie3hua1; struck iron fireworks) is a traditional folk firework that began in Henan and Shanxi, first arising in Queshan county, Henan and later circulating through the whole country. It had first appeared during the Northern Song dynasty, and was most popular during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
For Queshan struck iron fireworks, a two-layer pergola is built and covered with willow branches for performances, under which the molten iron is struck up with two willow sticks to create a rain of fire.
[eng by me + edited an ad out]
(On top of the information in the video, I have some more about its recent history under the cut.)
*Also, a note about one of the subtitles: I realized later that "going into battle without a shield" actually just meant going shirtless. I was only confused about this phrasing while translating because she didn't go shirtless, although that is for obvious reasons
Queshan struck iron fireworks had almost been lost before Yang Jianjun unearthed it again in 1988. It had almost died out in the early years of the Republic of China being established, after which there had only been three performances until 1988: 1952, 1956, 1962. Yang Jianjun had seen the 1956 performance as a 7-8 year old and later on as the director of a cultural centre, began digging up the skill and its history. In the process, he became an apprentice to Li Wanfa, who had been the last head of the Queshan Struck Iron Fireworks Society. He practised with sand and water, learning of its historical origin, its ancestral inheritors, craftsmanship and performance arts, but didn't touch the real thing until 1988. Through Yang Jianjun's efforts and investment, the first struck iron fireworks performance in more than 25 years took place in Nanshan Square (then a deserted area) in Queshan county.
Queshan struck iron fireworks are different from other struck iron fireworks in that it requires a wide area to perform, whereas others only needed a wall or could be hit straight up into the air, and it costs much more money to set up.
The names of inheritors are difficult to trace, and can only be traced back to the Qing dynasty during the Qianlong period, making Yang Jianjun a sixth-generation inheritor, and Jiang Xunqian (OP) the first woman and a seventh-generation inheritor.
okay, all excitement over the actual plot of tsc aside, is anyone else seriously excited just to see how Nora has developed as a writer?
There's something extremely special about getting writing for the same universe a decade after the original series. We get a little window into how she's grown in her craft, and I'm really excited for it. Getting to see how she interacts as an author with a brainchild that was originally developed so long ago is lowkey highkey amazing.
Tbh we should all give her a nice big "thank you, Nora" because not a lot of fandoms get this, and especially after some of the crap that the fandom has put her and her characters through.
regarding: colour me in — alright. almost 8 months later… they're coming back 🥹 that's how long it's been since a main chapter dropped? crazy. but cmi12 is (nearly) done and ready 🎨🤍
dropping next Friday, August 2nd, 8pm EST! might shift to Saturday in case i need more time to edit.
the chapter's name is cmi: palette; and palette will be around 32k long (sorry? you're welcome? idk lmao) :D you can of course take your time to read it, but i promise it'll be worth it <3
lots and lots of glimpses into our babies' and their friends' lives!! it's a beautiful chapter that then leads to deeper aspects of their relationship.
this chapter is already part of the new arc, which means we'll see a whole new side of all the characters. there'll be fluff, but there will also be angst, hardships and tears. partly heavier, partly lovelier than before. we'll go on a whole journey with them before this lil story comes to an end <3
also! i have decided on how many parts this series has left, but this could change anytime 🤧
maybe you saw already, but i've been struggling with colour me in. not because i don't love the story — it's my everything. but because the site has gotten quieter — so i'll need you all in for this one to get to the story's end eventually. i wish i could read thoughts, but i can't so pls lmk how you feel about this 🥺
i often get very nervous about my fics and i still am this time, as well, but i'm confident you'll like this part 💕 so give it all your love; a little support always goes super far. cmi is nothing without y'all and i live for your cheers. that said, see you soon 🤍
not sure how intentional this was but tobias has popped off with helping us warm to papa v before he arrives. he released an upbeat and emotional bop that feels like a hug & a memory that nihil said he was 'saving for the new guy'; i don't know papa v yet and will always be sad to see copia go, but tfiafl has already killed off any tiny resentment that might have been there for a replacement. can't wait to see him sing it, whoever he turns out to be
today i'm welcoming home my first BJD, "lieselotte!" i would like to occasionally post more doll content (especially lolita related) on my blog from now on.. so you may be seeing her often!! ♡
lolita collaborations sparked my interest in ball jointed dolls quite a while ago, but i've only recently started researching them and have come to love all of the similarities these hobbies share. i was very lucky to be able to find my discontinued dream doll completely unopened from a secondhand sale despite this specific model being made and distributed almost 15 years ago. it gives the same feeling as a very well preserved time capsule of sorts.
to give more information on her--she is a 2010 limited release model volks super dollfie x baby, the stars shine bright collaboration from the storyline "harajuku memories"
she is absolutely everything i wanted in a doll and a perfect fit for me as a lolita and avid fan of btssb. i prefer the older faceups of her rather than the more modern ones. i intend on matching coords with her-- so far, i own the same gingham rose OP, her default dress, and the honey cross shoes and socks.. though i want to hunt down the same christina hat she wears. i plan to take her outside with me once the weather gets a bit nicer, as her storyline mentions that being her wish!
i'm quite new to the hobby and still have a lot to learn, so feel free to share any resources or tips ^_^
