My impression now That's Lily's girl! She's sweet! I'm genuinely so surprised that more people don't talk about her? She feels like she should be a fan favorite? Sorry, I am not being the change I want to see in the world (talking about Persephone more), but I am being held hostage by the Ravinstills. She's on the long list of people I want to make a gifset for...

Favorite thing about that character I love that she hasn't let the bad things in her life (the Dark Days and potentially even noticing a bit of Coriolanus' disdain) get her down (seemingly, again, a lot of assumption we have to do with these minor characters... it's the blessing and the curse of loving them!)

Least favorite thing Uh, we don't get that much of her which is sad, especially since all we get is from the POV of someone who really is trying not to be around her or think of her that deeply. It makes me sad!

A character that I wish that character would interact with more I wish we saw more interactions with her and Mizzen. That would have gone a long way in giving us more canon insight into her character!

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character

Deep cut from a piece of fiction that I haven't read in like a decade but Ada Vessalius from Pandora Hearts. (I remember not exactly enjoying all aspects with the execution of Ada's character in that manga but she has certain similarities with Persephone in my mind). Ada's a kind woman who grows in confidence into macabre and dark things but hides that facet of herself from others. (just including a pic because it does hint at her vibe, and also I know one will know who I'm talking about)

A headcanon about that character

Lily, I'm genuinely trying to think of a Persephone headcanon that you haven't heard from me or potentially seen in one of my fics for your benefit... I am unforunately blanking so I shall pull from an Author's Note from an OC fic.

In worlds where she and Festus get married (which is like my most canon compliant world states), they go by the Price-Creeds because their kids stand to inherit from both the Prices and Creeds. Inheritance being very big in the Capitol. The Price name goes first because I think the Prices being railroad tycoons beats out the Creeds influence on the lumber industry.

Also and idk if this is just your blog color scheme getting to me Lily, but I associate her with red, magenta, and also jewel tones.

An unpopular opinion about that character

Not really an unpopular opinion, just different from some interpretations and the same as others. My interpretation of Persephone didn't really interact with Festus much pre-10th HG. Like they interacted obviously in the sense that they grew up together like with the other mentors, but they aren't like in the same close friend circles. (I do love close, childhood friends Festus and Persephone though!)

Truth - 🔪 what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

As far as fanfic goes, I'd say my most intense research happened for Bound Together, my Redactedverse/Tangled AU. To ensure that I properly depicted and reinterpreted the movie, I'd watch the movie a few minutes at a time. Watch a clip, then write the Redacted version in my story. Then watch the next two minutes, and write up that part. That process continued for the entire movie. I'm starting to plan out another AU in the future, and I imagine I'll use the same method.

Avior’s point-blank question left Sweetheart no room for illusion, embellishment, or exaggeration. What made you ship it? - We know there is a history - he's the only person to ever refer to her as something other than YZY and Madame Yu. What is the story behind the Violet Spider and the Core Melting Hand??? Like, okay, MXTX probably didn't intend it to be sexy, but damn, when you look at YZY's marriage, the idea of her having some secret past before JFM where she really got to live, but gave it up for duty... That's the kind of thing I eat up!

What are your favorite things about the ship? - THE NAMES. Seriously, Violet Spider with a sexy purple whip, and hand that could crush your golden core, two seriously dangerous people that one-on-one you would NEVER want to mess with!!! *Sighs* yeah, definitely sexy.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? - Are there any *popular* opionions about them? /s When I think about it, I guess it would be that they would be no better for each other than YZY and JFM, that there is a reason their history is history, having much to do with the sects they ended up in, and they were never a "meant to be", just a "could have been, maybe, had the world been different".

What made you ship it? - Because there is a history between them we know so little about, two women who were so close they pledged their firstborn children into an arranged marriage (and you know Madame Jin would have had to fight JGS tooth and nail to arrange it, because logically JGS would have wanted to choose the most politically/economically advantageous option, and while the Jiang had some political clout at that time, I'm sure JGS would have preferred an alliance with someone like the Wen). And because I think they'd be sexy together :D

What are your favorite things about the ship? - To a certain degree, the ship is a blank slate because we know so little about Madame Jin (including her effing name), but what we do know is that both of them are strong, opinionated women who can be vicious in their own ways, particularly when they believe they're protecting their children, even if they don't always show it in healthy ways (this is fiction, who cares about healthy ways lol). And again, the actresses in CQL are gorgeous and remind me I'm bi over and over again.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? - That, personally, I find them more interesting and engaging than any other femslash pairing in the fandom? Because I can enjoy various groupings of Mianmian, Wen Qing, and Jiang Yanli, but to me they just don't have that tooth, that bite that the older ladies do. But that's just a personal opinion - I'm very ship and let ship so enjoy your ships :D

Neutral Ship

Why don't you ship it? - I'm trying to put my finger on it. Because I HAVE read a handful of fics, and I can appreciate the stories and the writing, and it's a perfectly fine ship! How can I not appreciate a love for NHS and LXC. I guess it just comes down to me not feeling it. They don't reach into my chest and grab my heart and scream at me that their story needs to be told in every variation possible.

What would have made you like it? - I dunno, really. As I said, I've read a few fics and tried, so I'm not sure what would shift it over from neutral to ship. I can see the potential, it's definitely there, I just kind of... *shrugs*

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? - The biggest one is the shippers - a lot of the people I started following on Tumblr when I first got into the CQL/MDZS fandom were XiSang shippers, and they're all such awesome people that I will defend the ship on their behalf at the first sign of attack ;) And the characters are both ones I enjoy (NHS more so, he's my MAJOR BLORBO), and I can at least see the potential in the ship! It's one of those things where all the ingredients are there and correct, but it's just not the cake I want to eat.

Tbf and this is an unpopular opinion in the fandom and I get why, I've thought since my second watch (I always focus more on the main plot or characters the first go, then do a second watch for the details, side characters, etc) that if anyone was decently set up for a redemption arc it was Gabriel.

Okay let me explain that lol.

Gabriel is kinda different from the other archangels. Sure, he's still distanced, still mocks Aziraphale's hobbies... But he's also the only one who also has not one but two earthly hobbies. I think he doesn't eat because he's kinda scared it's Gluttony since he doesn't need it. But he also doesn't need jogging or clothes, and to me that looks like the Well Actually excuses of a very very early Aziraphale. He's not a hypocrite and a liar like Michael, who wants to kill Aziraphale for a crime she's guilty of. Not sadistic like Sandalphon. And he can be cruel, but more in an oblivious way than deliberately like Uriel does. Beelzebub did way more harm than him -both were pissed at the airbase but Bee told Satan about it while Gabriel just huffed and puffed.

During the execution he just wants to get it over with and more importantly, I think, when Crowley spits hellfire at them, Gabriel yanks Uriel and Sandalphon behind him and shields them with his body even though it's just as lethal to him. His first instinct is to protect his siblings.

Besides the fact that he can be obnoxious and rude, I think the real problem is that he's way too convinced that he's doing the right thing. He's genuinely flabbergasted when Crowley suggests that She may have different plans and I think the 'God doesn't play games with the universe' 'Where have you been??' exchange is very revealing. (God Herself admits She does lol). God hasn't talked to the angels for ages, and Gabriel is the Messenger. He's still operating on a very old plan because he thinks if it had changed he would be the first to know. But nobody is because God has fucked off the premises and only left the equivalent of a voicemail machine. Gabriel didn't have a Crowley to help him shake off Heaven's programming, and I think a lot of people forget Gabriel is programmed too. He's higher on the hierarchy but he's been taught the same rote and he believes it wholeheartedly (Michael doesn't, see back channels).

So even though I enjoy villain! Gabriel stories because there's a great setup for them, precisely because aside from a few details he's a blank sheet, I love redemption arc stories because that setup is there too. What if he gets to discover and enjoy more of Earth, rediscover himself outside of his role, rebuild his life now that the plan he followed blindly is moot? What if he feels lost, unmoored, and trying to recover he becomes better? Idk I just feel like out of all the others, he has the most potential for that kind of thing. So even though he did worse things in Myosotis than in canon, I'm like 👀 at his pain and where this goes.

It’s not impossible that Gabriel will receive his redemption arc in canon (or maybe an arc where he gets kinda redeemed but he’s still kind of an asshole and no one rly wants to spend much time with him lol), based on the stuff we know about him so far. I agree with some of your points!

But my opinion for canon may not necessarily reflect within this Myosotis: Falter, I keep these two separated!

(The Gabriel in my GoodGardenerAU actually does get sorta redeemed (in the way I mentioned above) but I've barely shown him so far so I won’t open that box for now,,,,)

Unpopular opinion- I don't think I'm deep enough into the fandom to really know if this is unpopular or not, and also this is technically just another headcanon, but I like to think that all the people trying to kill Cipher and calling him a demon didn't actually bother him that much? It was less of "Oh everyone wants me dead" that got to him and more "oh everyone is looking at me to save them, this wasn't supposed to happen."

Song associate with them- I HAVE SO MANY. The main ones are either Leviathan by Dirt Poor Robins for all the Demon Lord stuff (it reminds me a lot of Razgriz tbh!) Or One More Time With Feeling by Regina Spektor! I like the second one specifically because it has the vibes of "you're still alive, keep going, it'll get better eventually" which is something I really tried to lean into for The Pidgeon and the Falcon. Other than that I do really like Diapason from the AC0 soundtrack, the mission it plays on makes me tear up every time I swear

Meme - Accepting

Hi. You! Ily! But okay. I'll be a lil salty for you bae. So, I think that people need to take a step back and learn to mind their own business and also learn to just curate their tumblr experience. Now, I know that sounds rather blunt and rude but, it's true. I have seen over the years how some people believe that they are entitled to learn every little detail about your personal life or dictate how you should run your tumblr blog or who you should/shouldn't interact with.

People used to overshare all the time on Tumblr in the past. I did too I won't lie. But now as I've grown, I don't do that much anymore. I keep things vague such as not publishing my exact location, barely mention my family or my job. I also don't post photos of myself anymore for my own comfort unless my face is blanked out. Nor do I post any of my other socials here on Tumblr. I have grown and learnt to keep to myself.

Curating comes along with minding your own business to an extent I believe. You're not gonna like everything someone else likes and that's gonna relate to everything such as fandoms, ships and characters. Don't be harassing someone just because they like things you don't like. It isn't going to change their interests at all, so simply just block/blacklist and move on. It's a lot easier than sending hateful messages. Like I'm here to relax and enjoy the things I like. Not have someone tell me why I shouldn't like xyz. I just block immediately if people try to dictate what I should/shouldn't like.

It's the same with everyone you see. You're not going to like everyone you see/meet on tumblr. Tumblr likes to give this happy vibe of 'you can get along and be friends with everyone' which isn't true. Sometimes you just don't click with people or like what you see. It happens. However. This doesn't give you the right to tell someone who they can interact with just cause you don't like somone.

I personally have the viewpoint of blacklist/block who you don't like/want to see and keep it at that. It's what I do. It's easy to do and causes no fuss. I'm curating my tumblr experience for myself no one else and I think others need to learn to do the same to have a more relaxing time here on this website before devs destroy it once more.

I know you already talked about but this I think the fandom has changed a lot. I am a shy reader so I stay on anon and I don't reblog much because my Tumblr is small. But I have been around for a few years and its not the same.

There was a lot more playfulness and silly posts. People reblogged other people's writing a lot more. I also had fun following how people talked to each other.

The kind of writing people wanted was different. You didn't have such a focus on how "good" the writing was or how much imagery a writer used. It was about the stories being told and it feels like that has changed. The fandom seems to only want that flowery writing, those blogs that write at a "elevated" level. I was just fine without it, to be honest.

I am sad that people are not liking things and that Prince is taking over more and more. There is no love anymore for Vamp or Sen or Rev (my beloved Rev 😭)

I don't know why I am reaching out to you except you have been here a long time, one of the best blogs in this fandom. And part of me is just sad that it feels like the fandom is dying.

The thing you pointed out about the quality of writing and people's demands.... it's actually something i wrote in my last reply to you. and then deleted it. because i thought, "haha no it must be just me", but now that you say it, im prone to agree - your angle of things is actually very trustworthy in my opinion, being someone who's been here for so long and observed from afar. for me it's easier to forget how it was in the beginning, but now that you say it, you're absolutely right... the blogs i looked up to, the writers i admired, weren't put on a pedestal for their skills, it was purely in my head how great they were - to a point where it makes me sad that it feels like ive received more praise now than they did back then. some of them don't write as often anymore, if at all... it's not right. i wonder why did that happen and when, and if it's actually harmful for us writers or im being too cautious. i want to be just like you sometimes, to enjoy the fruits of this fandom from the comfort of being a small blog seldom interacting with posts but still appreciating them from afar - i've been that person in other fandoms, and it has its perks definitely. it's just some strange miracle that i became what i am right now and broke through the shell of being a shy reader! seriously! i appreciate you and people like you, because im glad that i can make more of those fruits for you to enjoy. it's an unpopular opinion but ive never been mad at lurkers all that much. everyone has their reasons to feel uncomfortable interacting, and other than that, i personally want to have a blog where people escape from the hustle of being seen and present. again, that's just me, and i'll encourage commenting and sharing work when it comes to my peers... we're getting off topic, haha. and i should make a paragraph break already

i want to comfort you somehow but without lying to you that "nooo it's alright we're still having fun around here and the fandom is totally not dying" and we could make what the musicians on titanic did, but hey, we're not in the middle of the ocean and i seriously cant be a pessimist 😭 i don't think that it's that bad - i did say that some writers are put on pedestal, but are they really? i doubt anyone is seeing those things so dramatically, well maybe that one anon. but that's just one case, and unfortunately it affects how we see things A LOT , because noone else allows themselves to point out things in such dramatic light, no matter if they're right or not. we're paying the anon a lot of attention, so this fucks with our heads to a certain degree. i think that you should rest assured that this mood around the fandom is temporary, same with the more fun postings that you mentioned - i have a theory for that too, and it's because ikepri is simply not allowing for as much goofing around as its predecessors. you still see your doze of cursed jokes but they're not realistic in the nature of the game's world like they would in ikerev for instance, or even ikevamp . but that's fine because, and this is something i actually thought about the other day, they can't keep making more and more dramatic dark and twisted all overly serious games (right? right?) , somewhere along the way a game with the carefree atmosphere of ikerev will come to existence again, and we'll heal again. and the hateful anons who dont see that we're just a bunch of people having fun without that made-up hierarchy , will get bored and go away eventually. i believe in that, and i really want to make you believe too

1. What made you ship it?

I mean, I will climb aboard most ships unhesitatingly. As the songs goes, I don't care, I ship it. XD They just have some really nice potential, generally? Their areas of expertise and skill are very different, but they fundamentally seem to get along pretty well, and I want them to be appreciative of and interested in each other's different strengths. I think I've honestly been on this one ever since they split off in the first episode and we got to see how they worked together; it's just a nice little combo of very interesting people.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

*points above* There's just that broadness between their skills that works so well for me? I don't think everything they care about or think is different -- and man do I want Lilith to give her unions ramble to Zillah's family one of these days -- but I just like the opportunity for them to really appreciate each other's competency in the way you can appreciate things you know you can't do yourself. Also, they both just have this sweetness and caring that shows up in the right circumstances that I want to see directed at each other.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

There is so little for this ship, I'm not sure what counts! On characterization more than the ship, I think Zillah is hands down better with people than Lilith (as long as she doesn't have to pretend to be someone else), both in general and in showing affection to the group, which I've seen some suggestions by other people to the contrary? I don't know how widespread that is, though. Hmm. Look, I don't even think anyone's written this ship yet, I'm drawing blanks. XD

Prudence/Merilwen: Ship It

1. What made you ship it?

So I watched the first few episodes in kind of a blur the first time around, during some stressful stuff going on, so a lot of it I forgot my early reactions to. I was probably down to ship most things very quickly because I'm Me, but the first thing that sticks with me for these two specifically is the one-two punch of Prudence trying to save Merilwen and Dob at the end of Brawl of the Wild, and Merilwen wanting to be Prudence in Heist Society because she's cool. Both just such excellent moments for their budding friendship, and sets up such a great dynamic.

More generally, they just seem to have a really great dynamic, and I'm always down to turn things romantic and see how it goes.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I think that even though it's much more obvious on Prudence's end, these two are the ones who are both least practiced with and least interested in most people before the group. (Merilwen has her family and a couple of friends, so she's a little more open than Prudence, but I don't think there's much implication that she had a ton of them even back home.) So the two of them trying to navigate not just the 'oh, I have friends now', but, 'oh, I have feelings now', is both really interesting and kind of funny to picture. I think Merilwen might be better, with someone else, but I feel like Merilwen takes a lot of cues from the people around her, so I could see Prudence being an emotional disaster and that being contagious; but I also feel like if they liked each other they'd try, and I like that.

I also really like how much Prudence admires every time Merilwen pulls out something horrifying -- she's just so proud! It's weirdly cute!

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Is the idea that they're also disasters unpopular? 6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

It's VERY rare for me to hate a ship from the start, since I usually remain neutral to those ships I don't like at once and I tend to stay neutral throughout. Fandom HAS made me hate ships I originally liked, though.

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

At the moment, it would be the way Bruce Wayne/Batman is currently being written. As he is now, he's stale with no room for growth due to the lack of acknowledgment of the consequences of in universe actions, because he goes back to a blank slate every few issues as if nothing happened. Also I'm just TIRED of him being treated as the key to the universe. He's not. Shut up about Bruce already!!!

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

Comics fandom is RIDICULOUS because you can't win. On one hand you have people who are fans without having EVER touched anything of the source material, and refuse to do so because "fanon is better" -- even though they have no idea of what's actually going on in canon that doesn't come in the form of unsourced comic panels on tumblr, essay posts with personal interpretations of canon events, etc.

On the other hand, you have the "no fun allowed!" fans that read as many comics as they possibly can while going a lil nuts (because that's just what happens when you expose yourself to DC for too long), and they think they have the higher ground over the rest and their takes are the only right ones. Everyone who likes fanon is dumb according to them even though fanon has a lot of interesting things going on.

But honestly reading too many comics is a bit of a self own, as much as saying you like a thing without ever interacting with the thing is also a self own.

Also, maybe fandom adopting the terms top/bottom was a mistake.

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?

That too many people are obsessed with trying to prove their fave is the only valid character ever and the rest are demons. Honey, they are all deeply unhinged and they all suck but they also all rock. My fave isn't even all that valid. And that's okay.

002 | Bow / Double Trouble

When I started shipping them: Long after S4 dropped, at some point when I was planning a certain future!fic. It's not a DoubleBow fic, but I realized it could easily become one, and the idea hasn't left me since.

My thoughts: This is definitely a weird ship as of S4, but if you can get past the weirdness, it has a lot of potential to be interesting above all else.

What makes me happy about them: They're opposites morally, but they're both smart, both have high emotional intelligence, and both have led successful double lives at some point... though one was a bit higher risk than the other lol. I can't see it progressing past the stage of surprise attraction and earnest (possibly platonic) personal discussion. Like, dating? Marriage?? Not likely. But uncovering the amoral mercenary's personal history and realizing you can actually sympathize with them, and you want to know more about them? Realizing the bleeding heart archer understands you better than you thought, and actually seems to care about you for some reason? That's the good stuff.

What makes me sad about them: They've barely even looked at each other in canon.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: There really... aren't... any fics about them? I think? So what's annoying is I have to write them myself lmao.

Things I look for in fanfic: If there was fanfic, I would want to see it explore how different they are while also drawing unexpected similarities, and emphasis on how unprepared they are for how much they suddenly care about each other. Would also love to see how jarring it is - for Bow specifically. They could be talking, nice and friendly, everything's going well, and then suddenly DT says something that brings Bow to a screeching halt and reminds him that DT is not a good person. Then he's left trying to reconcile everything he knows about them - how can they be so amiable, and fun, and even kind in their own weird way, but still enjoy other people's suffering? How can they just be chatting with him and calling him pet names when they were perfectly okay helping the Horde a matter of months ago? And is it even okay for him to be their friend, knowing all this? Just a terrible inner conflict. And frankly, DT would probably find it amusing. But all of that can be perfectly platonic. Ship-wise, I'd like to see Bow get extremely flustered from DT's flirting, because he has not at all exercised his romance muscle during the war and their flirt-o-meter only goes to 10. Also, Bow realizing with some alarm that DT is actually pretty?? And tall?? And their strange lizard behaviors are quickly becoming endearing to him??

My wishlist: Actually the above is p much a wishlist oops but as far as S5 goes PLEASE let them talk to each other ONCE.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For Bow, Glimmer (I prefer them as friends honestly but I'd be okay with a ship too). For DT, Catra, or various other people, or no one at all.

My happily ever after for them: Bow convinces DT to give up the mercenary life by offering a place to stay and a stable food source so they no longer have to do whatever it takes to survive. DT starts to unlearn their "it's you or me" mentality and open up to Bow and reluctantly gets adopted by his dads who can never have enough children.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Glimmer, Adora, also DT cause it would be interesting romance or no.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Idk I think me and the fandom are pretty unanimous in our love for this guy. I guess I just think there are some nice "dark" aspects to his character too, and I'd like to see them explored more. I mean this guy fooled his parents with an elaborate ruse for years. He has a huge capacity for deception, and is especially good at it because he's usually very honest so no one would expect it from him. And even though his family comes off as happy and supportive, he felt his dads' love was fragile enough that that ridiculous ruse was necessary. That's fun stuff, let's talk about that!

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I really wanted the pulse weapon in S4E4 to have a more severe impact on him. He basically took a small nuke point-blank. I would've liked to see some of the episode dedicated to his recovery and the rest of the team realizing how much they rely on him.

Favorite friendship for this character: Best Friend Squad forever. And eventually Catra post-series because she needs a good influence in her life.

My crossover ship: i truly can't think of any, i think I'll ignore this question on future asks lol

That would have been AMAZING!! Hire me CAPCOM! 19.What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom? I guess I would say that I'm not a big fan of the insistence on the sameness. There are a lot of fanon based headcanons that make me stop and think "did we play the same game?" and make me pull up the transcripts of the case because I want to make sure I didn't misinterpret something. I wouldn't mind this as much if people didn't insist that it WAS canon and that if you didn't share the headcanon, you were WRONG. I guess in other words, it's the animosity to others who interpret the story differently.

Since you know what Homestuck is, I'm really curious to hear what your thoughts are about it. Do you have a favorite character?

Personally, I would consider Kankri Vantas my favorite— Although he gets misrepresented in the fandom pretty often as a good or genuine person LMFAO... When will we all admit he is an asshole who sucks!! And I like him despite it!

I think it's actually an unpopular opinion to like most of the dancestors because in canon they were badly written and a lot of them are just unlikeable. you kinda have to put in effort to like some of them.. i'm fond of them bc the bad two dimensional writing makes them near blank slates. You can give them as much depth as you want! i guess i technically did put effort into liking them, i just had to make up details that made them likeable first BAHAHA

I probably only favor Kankri because I've dedicated the most time to overthinking him, and overthinking Beforan culture in relation to him. At this point it's probably more accurate to say that my favorite character is My Specific Version of Kankri Vantas rather than Kankri Vantas as he's taken at face value in the webcomic. 🤷 oh well. i am not immune to fanon pitfalls. at least i don't woobify him

Anyways, If I had to pick a more important or popular favorite it'd be a tie between Dave and Nepeta. Of course there's Davepetasprite^2, but I think it would kinda be cheating to pick them. Dave's emotional arc and overall character growth hits me hard somewhere personal, and as for Nepeta... Well, I just like the spunky cat warrior. sometimes you can keep it simple

So, who's your favorite homestuck character? No wrong answers!! :D (... ok maybe there are a few wrong answers. pls be normal)

I guess I'm pretty fond of Kankri, partly because I like him as a foil for Davepetasprite^2. Dave and Kankri have the same kind of relationship in that they are both the kind of person for whom I feel a bit guilty because I'm not sure what to make of them, but it's easy to imagine being Dave-like being the best possible outcome. I think I've written about this before but I could probably spend more time thinking about Kankri in particular.

The thing about the characters which is most interesting to me is not who they are, but how the author presents them to us. For the sake of comparison I want to point out a similarity with Hussie's other work: how much I relate to Lilo and Stitch. I get a good deal of what they are saying about childhood, parents, parents' mistakes, and all of this is presented in a very emotionally affecting way which makes it quite hard to distance yourself from it even when you are an adult with an adult's perspective on it. The same thing, at least at times, happens with Homestuck. The characters are well-developed, I can even understand some of the things they are going through or being accused of, but my reaction is still this "holy shit! holy shit!" moment like you describe with Lilo and Stitch. I feel like we are inside a mind, one of the characters' minds, from their perspective. It's their experience of the world, and it has been filtered through some of the deepest and most painful psychological themes.

If we think of the characters as a story (and they do have stories, sort of?), there's this other element I often find very resonant as well: I feel that the authors must have put a lot of themselves into the characters. It's weird to try and be objective about this (I tend to find that very difficult), but there's a kind of internal life to them. They're not totally separate from us, they're not inhuman, and their emotional reactions make some amount of sense, even as they feel "ridiculous" or "absurd." It's like they were written in a first person style, and sometimes the story just is happening in their heads.

I really, really like Andrew Hussie's art, too, and he seems like someone who does something similar – this weird mixture of seeming inhuman or inhuman-like (which, as we've discussed before, can be a double-edged sword) and a strong internal sense of perspective and emotion. But the Lilo and Stitch movie feels very different from Homestuck, while the characters are very similar. This kind of goes for a lot of his work, honestly – there's not a lot I can say for Homestuck in particular.

(Not counting all of the "real people" we meet, there are only four humans in the entire story. One of these (John Egbert) is literally a robot. There are various troll characters, who are sort of "humanoids," and some robots, but there's not much of an idea of a "troll culture" or anything, the trolls are not a "culture" per se and are not really treated as fully fictional characters. Then there is Vriska Serket, who is clearly, as you say, a very human character, but is treated as a semi-humanoid, semi-fictional character, in much the same way we are treated with Homestuck characters. She has very strong personality, is very popular, but the fact that she "loves to dance" and "cries real tears" is an element that is made to seem ridiculous in a way that feels very intentional. We are, in a sense, on the sidelines of this story. I don't know if there's a human in the story, or even many human-like characters in the story)
