Some peeps asked for Heather character analysis and that's literally what I live for so let's go

pay attention this is long.

Heather is portrayed since the very beginning like the perfect example of the word brat. Her literal first line is, "I'm calling my parents, you can't force me to stay here!"

Even though this could hint that she has a very close relationship with her parents, at the same time in the extra clips for the parents from home we understand that her parents aren't really so caring for her, since they were celebrating at the thought of her leaving.

Even if this can seem controversial, there's a perfect explaination for this kind of behaviour:

As an example, my cousin is a goddamn brat (so glad my family doesn't know about my blog), always whining and asking for my aunt's phone, even cussing in front of his parents, and he's about 5. The thing is, due the desire of not hearing him protest my uncles tried to please him in everything, giving him what he asked so he would stop crying.

i think that Heather's parents kind of did the same: They complied with her every request so as not to hear her complain, not because they cared about her but because they wanted her to keep quiet. Heather of course got used to this and that's literally all she knows. She knew that if she conplained, she would get what she wanted.

We also know that her parents used elettro shock therapy on her in order to "make her nicer" which also hints that they didn't have a goddamn clue of what to do with her.

Furthermore, in tda when she thought she was about to die she wrote her will where she left most of her possessions to her mother. Plus, when Chris offered the team a chance to talk to the person they were closest with, who was the person suggested to Heather? That's right, the mother.

When she "opens up" a little to Harold she asks, "do you think it's good to be hated by everyone?"

I think that her bratty behaviour, maybe even in order to gain a little of attention from her parents, led people to stay away from her and to cope she became even worse, trying to convince herself that it wasn't her, it was them.

In an extra clip (cannot find it) we learn from her younger brother that she was used to be seen as "unattractive" when she was younger, which adds to the whole "no one likes me but who cares" thing.

I have the feeling that she closed herself off for so long to avoid being seen as weak, someone who can't provide for herself. We know that her number one objective is winning and only winning, she wants the money and for what? To start a life of her own, show the world that she's Heather and she's so worth it.

However, we sometimes caugh some moments of weakness: When she broke down while teaming up with Harold, when she looked upset when Lindsay and Beth stayed away from her (who, to remember, were the only friends she made on the show), when she comforted Courtney after the whole cheating thing and lord, even when Sierra the creepy crazy girl got hurt she showed to care for her. Also, did you see how happy she looked when Cody called her "the good guy"? (well not exactly but you get my point) or when she won?

And when she fell for Alejandro, she probably thought that was stupid - why falling for a boy that will just slow you down, break your heart?

Heather is hated by everyone, it's true. But deep inside she's just a girl that never understood how the world really worked. She never got how she had to actually behave in order to be liked. When she and Alejandro had that lovey dovey honeymoon phase she genuinely looked so happy because he was treating her like a literal queen. In my opinion, she finally felt respected and that was enough for her. Until Chris mentioned the money that is.

She deserves to win again :(

Nagi always asks you for help with the most minor things. He just wants more chances to be closer to you. He always makes sure to properly thank you or even apologizes for making you do extra work. And even if it's things he could do all by himself, he can't help but ask you to do them.

Reo asks for your help very rarely because he knows how much work you do for Nagi. But he loves it when you spend time with the team after your working hours. Reo likes to get your attention only on him instead of any other team members. Besides Nagi, you're his favourite person in the entirety of Blue Lock and he makes sure you know that.

Chigiri thanks you for your work every time he sees you. He wants you to know how much he appreciates you and everything you do. You're always unsure if he's simply thanking and complimenting you, or if there's more behind it. There definitely is more behind it, though. Sometimes his tone gets a bit flirty.

Junichi and Mao are seen together a weird amount of times, and you always wonder how they even became friends. But maybe it's because she's the only one who properly understands him even when he doesn't talk.

Can you even imagine the chaos of having both Kaiser and Isagi simping for you? They're either constantly fighting for your attention or yelling at each other for "giving you too much work." It's a fun disaster to watch, though. Also cute at the same time because even though they're insulting each other, they're saying very sweet things about you.

Ness often joins Kaiser when he's argumenting with Isagi, but besides that, he's very sweet towards you. Rarely asks for help, but if he does it's for Kaiser because when it comes to easy things he's too stubborn to ask by himself. Ness is also a joy to talk to outside of your working hours! He's a very good listener and loves listening to you talk about anything you want.

Hiori doesn't need your assistance often, but he's always looking forward to spending time with you after your working hours. He appreciates your work a lot, but he wants to get to know you closer as a person. He absolutely loves it when you tell stories about your life outside of Blue Lock because it takes his mind off of soccer for a bit.

Claire won Yukimiya's heart after the first week and now they're almost inseparable. Yukimiya almost never asks for your or Mao's assistance, only for Claire's. But him asking for help is fairly rare anyways because he doesn't want to be a bother by putting extra work on any of you. Although, he asks a lot of questions to get to know you better.

Raichi became Mao's bodyguard after Kaiser insulted her for "being bad at her work" when she didn't immediately run to him. And now, she's not getting rif of Raichi anymore, especially if Kaiser is near. She's not complaining about it, tho.

Gagamaru got interested in being friends with Mao because she's so small and it reminded him of Naruhaya. He likes to tease her about her height and she often climbs on his back or even shoulders so he has to carry her around. He goes along with it, but Noa isn't a fan of it if it's happening during her working hours.

Kurona can't explain why, but he loves having Mao around. Sometimes he braids a part of her hair like his own so their hairstyles match! Sometimes, they kinda come off like siblings.

Birkenstock and Mao becoming close friends was a surprise to everyone. He doesn't exactly participate in any group hangouts, and in general, he's more of a silent guy. But somehow, Mao got his interest and she's always happy to assist if needed.

(Expanding on an idea I originally put here)

"Yes, yes, yes! Come on!" Formaggio cheered on the players on his favorite soccer team. His yelling mixed with the loud noise of the crowd through the TV speakers made it seem like you two weren't the only ones in the room. It really shouldn't be possible for it to be so loud, but here you were. You were the only one who ever agreed to watch soccer with Formaggio anymore. Maybe that was why...

You didn't mind much, though. You could put up with the noise and watching something that wasn't really your style for Formaggio. He'd quickly become your best friend after joining La Squadra. He was just never awkward with you, just warm and friendly and playful, quickly winning your friendship. Before you knew it, his playful nature and bright smile had won your heart as well.

That's probably why you always jumped at the chance to watch soccer with him. You loved to see him so excited, and the promise of being alone with him was the cherry on top.

The night had been fun, per the usual of time spent with Formaggio. He'd come running to find you as soon as the opening ceremonies started, not wanting you to miss any of the game. You'd plopped down on the couch, sitting right next to him with a smile. You two cracked open a few beers and started watching the game. Well, he started watching the game. You weren't too interested in it and spent most of your time watching him instead.

Time had escaped you, and it was now nearing the end of the game. You could tell by how much more excited he became with every passing second. He seemed so much more excited than usual, so you decided to actually tune in for once.

It was the last few minutes of the game. Formaggio's team, and yours by extension, was behind, but they had the ball. Formaggio cheered excitedly when they scored a goal.

He grabbed your shoulder tightly. "It's tied up. We're so close!" Your attention on the game wavered due to him touching you. The action seemed to fill your head and stomach with butterflies.

Formaggio began to get louder and louder in his cheering, and you glanced back at the TV just in time to see the winning goal, the ball going into the net at the very last second.

Formaggio jumped to his feet, entirely overjoyed that his team had made such a play. In his excitement, he grabbed onto your face and planted a huge kiss right on your lips. He stood back up straight and continued celebrating, while you're left stunned. You brought a hand to your lips, touching them as if making sure you were real, and blushed.

"Come on, [Y/N]! Why aren't you celebrating? You saw that comeback!"

"I did but I... Y-you... We..." You were unable to form a sentence.

"What was that, sugar?" he asked, finally dropping his volume back to his regular speaking voice.

"You," you swallowed hard trying to get the words out, "You kissed me."

His eyes went wide as he replayed the past few minutes and realized what he had done. "I'm sorry," he mumbled, suddenly quiet. "That was kind of uncalled for and totally out of the blue. I just got too excited and... Well. At least you know how I feel." He laughed gently, but watched you expectantly for your answer.

"It's alright, Formaggio. I, uh, I liked it." Your cheeks were on fire as you admitted this to him.

"Oh?" He quirked his eyebrows up at you and moved his face closer to yours once again. "Maybe I should make it up to you with an apology kiss then."

You weren't sure what to expect when you decided to bring Gahyeon out on an arcade date. As far as you imagined, it was going to be a nice day out where the both of you could enjoy yourselves and maybe snag home a few stuffed prizes. How were you supposed to know that Gahyeon gets riled up easily and get competitive when it came to games?

As much as you could, you stuck to playing in her team but alas when it came to certain games, you couldn't say no to her puppy eyes and pouts so you reluctantly play as her opponent. Long story short, you stood little chance in those games as the sparkle in her eyes gets brighter and her smile grew wider each time she won against you. With such cheerful laughter, how could you not join in with her happiness? 

Only when the two of you have finally came to the table air hockey machine did you crack a smirk of your own while you rolled your sleeves up. The both of you went through many rounds, Gahyeon was finally happy that you had a game that you could put up a fight with, and you occasionally won a few rounds against her. Time flew by as the both of you scanned your card again and again, hogging the table, and only when the machine beeped, signaling to you that you had insufficient credits left in the card did both of your smiles die down a little.

“Last round, winner takes all?”

At once, Gahyeon’s smirk returns at full force and you could feel the way your heart warmed with such a simple gesture from her. “I’ll win, and you know it.”

As she readies herself, all you could do was stare and silently murmur out, “This smirk of yours will be the death of me... “ before the loud announcer blasting ‘SCORE!” as the red words capitalized appeared on the screen above on your side of the table broke you from your thoughts. Looking back over at Gaheyon and the way she grinned, you stared at her in amusement. “I wasn’t ready yet!”

Sticking a tongue out to mock you slightly, she shrugged. “Well too bad, I don’t give chances.” Huffing as you picked up the puck and laid it on the table, you narrowed your eyes with a pout.

the different fillings turned out great though

Everyone has off nights, but you knew that Matt felt horrible putting his team two goals down in a game that they needed to win to clinch a playoff berth. Luckily, they won the game and a place in the playoffs, but Matt would be coming home soon

“Hey, babe,” you hear him say, not his usual happy tone when he comes into your bedroom. He flops down on the bed, letting out a long groan as he did. He stayed there, lying face down.

“I know that game is bothering you,” you say to him, breaking the silence that Matt desperately wanted after that game. “You can talk to me if you need to.”

He groans again, lifting himself up and looking at you. “You wouldn’t understand.”

“I know enough to know you had a bad night and that you think that you and the guys almost losing the game was entirely your fault.” Matt rolls his eyes at you, rolling himself over to stare at the ceiling instead. You move so that you can lay next to him. “You’re not the only one on the team. There were four other skaters and there was Jeremy on the ice with you. You don’t play the game alone, Matt.”

You were a lot... happier recently. You were a professional player now, you no longer played in that small girl's gym, struggling to find time and effort to practice. Instead, you practiced in a giant, spacious gym, with unlimited space and all the time in the world.

Your audience was no longer the same few people. It was no longer just your team, Ushijima and your best friend, cheering you on with fond smiles on their faces as you won the game. It was a stadium packed with adoring fans, a whole group of close friends and even a new boyfriend. Your new boyfriend was a talented professional called Aran Ojiro.

From what Ushijima had heard, Aran was perfect for you and you we perfect for him. And by all accounts, you were both equally overjoyed in eachother's presence. It hurt Ushijima to see you so happy with someone else, but he made you happy and that's all he wanted.

He still longed for those rare moments where your eyes caught his and the look of shock quickly spread through your usually calm face. If he needs your help with something, he always makes sure you don't have much work to do that day because he doesn't want you to work so much harder than you already do. He constantly compliments you for everything you do and thanks you over and over and over, even if you did a small thing like refilling his water bottle.

Of course, Karasu, Zantetsu and Tokimitsu appreciate your work a lot as well! But you won Rin's, Shidou's and Nanase's hearts a lot more. Plus, you can't have everyone for yourself. After all, there's also Claire and Mao.

About Karasu and Claire. How did that even start? It actually started with Claire simping for him, but in secret. You told Karasu about it and the feelings became mutual. Now he's constantly flirting with her and nobody knows if they're dating or still only teasing each other. Well, nobody knows except for you. You've caught them making out at night in the hallway once, but promise to not tell anyone.

Zantetsu and Mao became best friends extremely quickly and they're almost inseparable. There's definitely more than a friendship between them, but it's not romantic or anything like that. Mao keeps calling him her platonic boyfriend, though. Zantetsu doesn't properly understand what that means, but he acts as if he does. They love each other very much - just in a strong platonic way.

Tokimitsu is always a bit intimidated by his teammates and was very nervous around the assistants at first. He's always so afraid to ask you or the others for help, even if it's for minor things. But Mao pays a lot of attention to him and always notices when he needs some assistance. Definitely some platonic simping going on between them.

Noya is amazing at appreciating a gorgeous girl

He is not afraid to go up to them and tell them that they are the prettiest thing that he has ever seen and be a total simp 

But when he sees you he freezes, you’re gorgeous, like actually the most gorgeous person he’s seen in his entire life

He can’t make himself go up and talk to you but he also can’t make himself look away

It took a few days and a lot of pep talks before he would even go talk to you 

When he finally did he was so relieved that you were nice and that your conversation good

He kept talking to you everyday for a few weeks before actually asking you on a date

He was so nervous that he almost cancelled because he wanted it to be perfect and he wasn’t sure if it was going to be and he didn’t want to embarrass himself

After the first date he was whipped

You went on several more dates before he asked you to be his girlfriend 

From there on out he was completely awestruck with everything you do 

He holds your bag for you and walks you to and from school whenever he can

Was really nervous his friends would say inappropriate things or embarrass him so it took a while before he introduced you to them 

But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t talk about you to them all the time

“She’s just so gorgeous I don’t understand it”

“She made me cookies, COOKIES guys like she’s just so sweet” 

But when he did he made sure to introduce you to Asahi first

“Asahi, this is my girlfriend Y/N, Y/N this is my friend Asahi” he is trying to be really formal with it because he wants Asahi to see that he is actually serious 

“Nice to meet you!” 

“You too” 

You and Asahi actually start a conversation and that is way better than he could have ever thought so he decides to just go ahead and introduce you to the rest of the team

He does it when the team goes out to dinner and a couple of the others bring their girlfriends so he brought you 

“Guys this is my girl Y/N, she’s the best” 

They all smile and introduce themselves back and you end up talking with a lot of them throughout dinner 

He gets distracted thinking about you all the time

Will think about you during practice and completely miss balls because he is thinking of ways to surprise you and new ideas for dates

He tries to take you out to a real date at least every other week because you are so busy but the two of you hangout all the time

When you are at his house you both play mario kart and he is super good from years of playing and is not afraid to beat you over and over again

Every time he wins he demands kisses and not just one he tackles you and kisses all over your face

When you’re at your house you always make him study for at least a little bit before you both watch a movie or bake together 

It’s more like you are baking and he is trying all of the batter and telling you how pretty you are 

Noya cannot seem to compliment you enough 

He is constantly reminding you that you are his world and that he is so happy with you and just makes you feel special all the time

He is interested in everything you are, he wants to learn it all because it makes him closer to you 

He cannot believe it when you told him that you wanted to come watch him play

He was so nervous that he was using the bathroom more than Hinata

All he wanted was for you to be impressed by him 

After his first receive when he hears you cheering for him he is determined to hear you cheer for him again and again and doesn’t miss

He also gave you his old jacket to wear to the game (because Daichi said that he actually needed his one for this year so that they can all match) 

Literally almost passes out seeing you in it like he is so happy and feels so loved seeing you in his jacket

Your first kiss actually happened after the first game you came and watched 

They won and he was so pumped up that he pulled you into a sweet kiss and thanked you for coming to see him

The rest of the team tells you to come to all of the games because Noya’s receives saved them so many times in that game and he was playing way better than you ever had

Also dating him you are now best friends with Tanaka, he is going to tag along on dates and stuff because Noya cannot forget his homie 

You and Tanaka will end up being really good friends and you sometimes team up on Noya when playing games and stuff 

He is bad at remembering dates and things because they just slip his mind so he ends up putting everything important on the calendar on his phone 

But he puts everything down 

“Babe today is the day we had our first kiss” 

“We went to get ice cream today last month, we should go again” 

He doesn’t want to forget anything that happens with you 

He will literally take pictures of the two of you on every date 

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again he is your personal photographer 

He will take pictures of you when you aren’t looking because he wants to capture your beauty

If he wants pictures of the two of you that aren’t selfies he has Tanaka take them 

And Tanaka gets all of the angles for the two of you and will absolutely make you look amazing because he is an a amazing hype man and an amazing friend

Noya cannot get over you in his clothes like he would have you only wear his shirt because he’s a little possessive and wants everyone to know that you are his and his only 

The first time you see him with his hair down if you aren’t encouraging him and telling him it’s cute he’s going to never let you see it down again

He gets insecure about it because his hair gives him so much height ahd he says it looks like a dead bird down 

But if you kiss him and tell him he looks so good with it down and boost his ego about it you get to see it down all the time and you get to run your fingers through his hair and play with it 

Definitely keeps a hand on you at all times because he is not about to have someone come up and talk to you he will not allow it  

Loves to show you off though and if he catches boys looking will put them in their place

“Look away, she’s taken by someone who actually knows how to please a woman”

You also get to see the calm soft side of Noya that other people are sure doesn’t exist

He likes to lay his head in your lap and just talk to you all the time and will hug you from behind and give you slow and calm kisses 

Loves pulling you to his chest and just kissing the top of your head like he cannot get enough of it 

Will do anything to keep you from being upset

If you had a bad day he is telling you to go sit down and relax and sometimes has a bath drawn for you already so you can go soak while he makes dinner for you

He then gives you lots of kisses and soft affection 

Tells you all of his funny stories to try and make you smile 

No matter what always tells you that he loves you and that you better have the best dreams before bed, doesn’t matter if he has to text it to you on a break he has to 

If you do have nightmares will pull you close to him and reassure you that everything is okay and that if the beasts come back he is going to beat them up for you 

Has really smelly feet that you make him leave his shoes outside and he never once argues with you on that, but he did try and chase you with one of his stinky shoes once and you refused to kiss him for a few days after that and he will never do it again

So as most of you know, I have been trapped in Haikyuu hell thanks to my boyfriend for the last week and a half. I'm already midway through season two but I'm taking a bit of a break from binging to get my sixth episode in my cartoon script out by next weeks end. For those of you that talk to my religiously (my boyfriend, or my best friend Tara of @targaryens-blog) then this OC will already be familiar to you! If not I wanted to introduce her to all of you as well as some of my favorite HC ideas for her and her canon partner.

Aratani is a student at Nekoma who went there with a specific goal in mind. Before she won best female libero in her prefecture, she met a boy that occupied all her thoughts through her best friend Bokuto. That boy was, of course, my best boi Tetsurou Kuroo. Her first early morning practice she runs into the object of her affections and the rest was as they say history.

Aratani is a more... reckless libero and she often gets hurt trying to go after seemingly impossible balls and managing to get injured with cuts, bruises, and scars along the way. She has a scar on her right hand from a beach volleyball incident. She is naturally a bit more quiet then her best friend. She isn't as loud or chaotic without Bokuto. She's a lot more reserved and shy in fact when he isn't around her. But when he is around her hoo boy the chaos is real. Their one on ones could literally last for hours without either of them taking a break unless one or both of their significant others stop them.

Aratani also loves video games! This makes her really close with Kenma something that I wanted to do because if you date Kuroo automatically Kenma has to fit in there somewhere. I HC Kenma as on the spectrum mainly because of how quiet he is and how obsessed with video games he is. They are a remarkably common special interest of those that are on the autism spectrum.

She is also Bokuto's next door neighbor! They met when she was six and they've been besties ever since that day. He was the one who taught her everything that she knows about volleyball as a sport. They're those friends that tell each other literally everything because both of them are on the mental health spectrum (more on that later!)

HC time!

Her with Kuroo:

*Her and Kuroo have that relationship where nobody understands how it works except for them. To the outside world they're complete opposites but to each other, they're perfect.

*If there is anybody in the relationship that knows they are in charge it's Aratani. Kuroo would willingly follow her anywhere that she wanted to go (Kenma always jokingly tells him that he's such a whipped simp for his gf but he just loves her so much and that's the tea sis.)

*Kuroo absolutely, 1 billion percent, screams like a woman. If you want an example, Tara told me that he screams like Jonah Hill does in The Accepted. I died laughing.

*He is also terrified of bugs. Even the little ones have him quaking in terror and screaming for Aratani to get rid of them.

*Aratani is insanely strong. Like she's small but could totally kick your ass and everybody knows it. Most of the Nekoma volleyball team is terrified of her, especially Lev because damn does Tani have a mean glare. Most of the time though she loves her best friends.

*She starts off incredibly shy but once you get to know her you find out that she's stubborn, cocky, confident, boisterous. Kuroo loves all these different sides of her his favorite is definitely her confident side. He loves that she doesn't let anybody get to her. Whenever people talk down to her she'll just come at them ten times harder (he also finds this part of her massively sexy-somebody please help him LMAO)

*Not only does Kenma have autism, but it is of my general experience and consensus that Akaashi has aspergers. You can pry this HC from my cold dead fingers.

*Aratani loves Disney. She's that Disney fan that prefers the older films and she could watch Brother Bear a million times more than she already has and still not be tired of it. Her other favorite is one of my underrated faves The Happiest Millionaire. Her and Kuroo's first official date was to Tokyo Disneyland when her aunt had a showcase.

*She could spend hours playing with Kuroo's hair. It doesn't matter what they're doing but she just loves when he rests his head in her lap and plays with his hair.

*Going along with the hair HC Kuroo is obsessed with hers. He's always preferred girls with longer hair but the second she took her hair out of her bun that she uses for volleyball when he first met her he was stricken with her.

*Aratani radiates little spoon energy. Even if she was taller she still would because as strong as she is she loves being comforted.

*When I write for them I see them as Annabeth and Percy in the Percy Jackson books. I feel like that gives them a sold mood in general.

Her with Bokuto:

*Bokuto has borderline personality disorder. He also has ADD. His lows get super low so she has to be there for him. She loves being there to support and love her best friend. *They are absolutely the two people who sing to Disney songs while on the ride. Especially if the song is catchy. The only one where they don't is Small World because usually Aratani cries on that ride. She loves the song and it makes her really emotional. *Bokuto actually writes his own songs. It's how he expresses himself when he's at a low point. Aratani sings the songs that he writes for his Instagram.

*Platonic. Cuddle. Besties. That's all. They are super clingy with each other during their movie nights because they've been friends for so long.

*No matter what she can always count on Bo to be there before anybody else even Kuroo. He'll just run to her no matter how far he is.

*They could literally spend days together just hanging out and most of their summers are spent at Aratani's backyard swimming in her backyard.

*Bo is Aratani's go to taste tester for sweets. She loves to bake for him mostly because it's something that makes him happy.

*(His favorite of her sweets is her mint chip brownies)*He us also the king of braiding her hair. He loves to just play with her curls especially since it's calming to him.

*Bo loves to watch her play video games. He could just rest against her as she plays Kenma in Mario Kart. Video games are something that he's never been the best at but he could just rest next to her.

I, a campaign manager

so in addition to being a CTO, a CS major, and a dorm vice president, i was also a campaign manager for 2 weeks (the exact campaign that I was managing is not entirely difficult to figure out if you really want to know, especially if you click on the links BUT i will be trying to not mention it specifically here lol). You might be wondering - (1) why and (2) how did you end up becoming a campaign manager..... you're not even a poli sci/gov/humanities/literally anything vaguely related to this major??

You're correct, yes, how did this happen? Well that's a great place to start this story:

How in the world this happened

Friends drag you into stuff. This happens to be the same friend that dragged me to New York, and then was 20% of the reason I got dragged into the negotiation class, and then was maybe 15% of the reason i got dragged into nonprofit activities? In terms of providing unique opportunities in my life, she definitely takes the cake. So one day, she says "I'm running for this position," and me and the squad says "we gotchu." What does that mean? Clearly wasn't sure in the beginning, but we were texting campaign strategies and slogans and tiktok ideas in the chat for fun. None of us had any real responsibilities, especially since the actual candidates were still weighing the playing field and figuring out their platform.

I also was a course 6, so I guess there was some expectation that I would make the website, even though I didn't actually code the website from scratch.

but anyways, it was actual campaign time.

CAMPAIGN SZN

After they figured out the campaign platform, it was game on for the campaign materials. We spent a lot of time on artwork, we photoshopped pictures from a photo shoot, we came up with campaign motto ideas, we brainstormed strategies for officially announcing the campaign. We had an actual campaign meeting to talk over things in mid-April where I met like six different people, friends from both candidates on this ticket, who were supporting this effort. We had a google drive AND a Dropbox. Look at this:

Despite this seemingly organized effort, it was not that organized because this publicity team didn't actually actively do anything for like a week. Many reasons for this: one being it was actually the semester, and it was also CPW weekend. Unfortunately for me, that weekend was literally hell for me, because I was managing this site for our nonprofit, CPW events (so like five zoom calls on a Saturday), classes (because those are still happening), and then the campaign thing finally started, about a week before voting opened. In the form, of a website.

So the tl;dr is I developed an entire Squarespace website in one night. Yes, one night. I had to model it from I think the website from a Harvard campaign site, which took me like three or four hours on a Saturday night, which is a very fast time in my opinion to learn how to use Squarespace. I also bought a domain and figured out how to connect it to Squarespace at like 1 in the morning, which was the first domain I ever bought in my life!

(It expires in a month. I am absolutely going to let it die.)

Also, if anyone from squarespace is reading this for some reason, yall made a really solid product. I actually was very happy with my experience. You all should use it, I am 100% not sponsored by them at all, but honestly it was a very good experience. If you need to develop a website in four hours and don't have a lot of webdev experience, definitely consider it. You can even see website clicks and user analytics, it's actually really put together.

The next day we spend a lot of time going through website changes and artwork changes. It's bad. We had so many discussions about color palettes and the advantages of a 3 column vs 4 column layout. Yes. I'm serious. I'm starting to go crazy.

If anyone's interested, I would say that our website definitely was better than the other campaign's website. Like objectively. Like both campaigns were great, but the website? well. Here's the link (archived because I only paid for 1 month of squarespace :D) The amount of detail that went into it is actually incredible, the amount of spacing, i even had to custom CSS the header image so that mobile headers would show up correctly.

THE CAMPAIGN VIDEO

so sometime during this week, I had this thought about making a really good campaign video. I was very inspired by some of these Google ads that started with a Google search bar. (Yes, I am aware that I am that much of a Google simp.) To be honest, rewatching this ad, I really definitely just copied this entire ad lol, it's ok we don't have to talk about that.

That Wednesday, we coincidentally talked about what makes campaign videos successful. We talked about how Trump's incendiary imagery helped stoke the flames and how it was really effective in getting people to vote, and eventually helped him beat Clinton in the presidential election. So I went and took that and grabbed news clips and campus videos and overlayed that in the video, and it went from like a solid 6 to an 8 immediately, in my honest, unbiased opinion. We also had to put together quite a few interviews about what they wanted from the school and were looking for in their candidates, which took a million years of coordination, but we somehow got it done in three days, and everything was put together in a flurry of a weekend, unending changes and small fixes for sixteen hours straight. I could not even tell you how much I learned about premiere pro and how to use layer masks and everything. I even composed the music for the first fifteen seconds of it. Literally, composed, it.

And so on a Sunday afternoon FINALLY right before voting, the video drops. I'm sitting in my backyard absorbing the sun because I hadn't left my computer for 48 hours straight.

It gets like 1000 views or impressions or something in like two days, which is incredible for me, since I'm not a professional by any standards, but I am considering being a professional campaign manager at this point. By the way, we're also managing an Instagram page, a Facebook page, a tiktok page, a website, our individual social media pages, and we're trying to synchronize this video drop and all of our publicity efforts across every single one of these channels. It's chaotic at best.

VOTING SZN

So it's voting week, where we give everyone an entire week to vote. Across the week, it's mostly a waiting game, we make a few more tiktoks and funny videos that we publicize to get out the vote more. The last day, we're thinking about it, and we know the final vote's gonna be close, so we message every. single. person. in our Facebook friends list. I think I singlehandedly convinced like twenty people to vote (and hopefully vote for our ticket).

There's a lot of drama about different stuff. I won't really talk about it because I think it got really messy, but this week and entire couple weeks was a lot to get through honestly. As a reminder, I'm also working on my senior thesis and my nonprofit website work is peaking at this point, so everything is very, very bad and none of us have slept in a while. Also it's the pandemic.

Finally, the results come out. We lost by like 20 votes or something, out of 1500 or so total votes casted or something like that. It's one of the highest voter turnouts in school history or something, I don't quite remember. After that, we're so emotionally drained from this whole thing that we just don't talk about it for a while and that's that.

If the ticket won, I wonder how it would've turned out. I feel like things would've continued to be busy, and maybe that's not a great thing. So maybe everything happened for a reason. I don't know, but those three weeks were quite interesting, quite fun, quite odd. I'm putting those videos in my personal portfolio and am putting Adobe Premiere Pro and Squarespace on my resume and moving on.

Anyways, thought I'd just share! i haven't posted in a while, and this was definitely one of my #weird #odd stories from my time at MIT, which is quite reminiscent of #weird #odd at MIT in general.
