Okey so I've struggled a little (a lot) with an essay that I had to present for high school as a literature contest. Every year there is a theme and we have to compose from it, the thing is that this year we have to write a text from this sentence: "and explained to them". This is the result. I don't know what to think to be honest. On the one hand I like it because it's quite different to anything I've written before but being so impersonal and superficial... I don't know. That's why I'd like you to give me your opinion of it.

If I'm honest I'm a bit nervous because I've always been very sceptical about letting people read what I write because I'm very critical and perfectionist about my work so I tend to compare it to other people's work and I never see it as good enough. I have mixed feelings between fear and the desire to publish something of mine. Since I found this application I have seen other people who have dared to publish their texts sharing a little piece of their mind and soul in them and this has given me the confidence to get here: the day when I will publish something of mine. Although it has its flaws, I think it can help me to begin to open up to other people's opinions. That's why I ask you to be totally honest with your opinions, I've decided to share it in order to improve and your opinions can help me a lot to improve :)

But well, I'll stop procrastinating and I'll put the text here :)

One last thing, the text is not originally in English so here I wrote a translation of it so it might have some grammar mistakes, sorry for that😅

In a hospital room, there were three people. The first sat behind a desk with the computer on, constantly displaying tests that make your blood run cold. She had her legs crossed, one on top of the other, and was moving one foot rapidly, in an attempt to expel all that she was feeling at that moment. Her heart was racing with each passing second and he felt a peculiar shiver run down her spine, she knew well that what she would say next to the people with whom she shared that room would change their lives.

On the other side of the white desk, like the rest of the room, sat the other two people. The man was sitting in the chair closest to the wall and was perfectly aware that something was wrong. He had been staring for some time at a foot that seemed to keep dancing under the table. Inevitably, he couldn't help but think the worst, no matter how hard he tried to shake off this bad feeling that seemed to be gaining weight on his shoulders as time passed by.

Next to him was a woman with whom he shared a ring on his ring finger. She, however, was too nervous about the silence that pervaded the room to notice the tiny detail of the foot. Although the room was completely silent, questions echoed in her ears at a deafening volume. Why doesn't she speak? Why is she constantly looking at his computer? What's going on? And so, at this very moment, the two people sitting next to each other came to the same conclusion without needing to speak.

It was then, when the posters that filled the cold, white walls of the room with pictures of babies, laughing mothers and fathers, seemed to drown them out. The dummy hanging on the white shelf behind the third person seemed to intensify its bright colours to scream for their attention.

As the young woman trying to hide behind her computer saw a tear fall down the cheek of the woman in front of her, she took one last look at the evidence that the child inside this woman was no longer alive. She took a deep breath, and explained to them.

Milo Thatch was one of my first crushes as a little potato. That movie literally gave baby me her 1st bisexual crisis because I was enthralled by him and Kida (and a little bit Audrey too, but that's unrelated aksksndkaksndlxkfn).

ANYWAY I can see that and tbh I'm kind of into it 🤷‍♀️. Both are nerdy and nervous, and I toyed with the idea of putting Erwin in the archaeology or history field which I think is pretty similar to linguistics/cartography. Plus they're both considered to be "conspiracy theorists" but they're dead ass right about their theories lmao and they share a love of the unknown!

June/July 2024 recap (aka the months that I was in utter burnout but not realising it)

According to Tumblr, it's been 9 weeks since I last wrote a recap. Hahahaha. Damn, I did not realise my burnout was that long. This was something which I talked about with my sups last month during my performance appraisal - how I'm the type of person who will just trudge on and get the work done, not realising how my mental health was during those dark-ish times until months later when I will inevitably feel slightly better (because like all things, life is a cycle) and then reflect on how crappy the past few months had been. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I'll get to how September went in another review!

For now, let's try to recap June and July as best as I could remember them but still not putting pressure on myself about how things should be perfect because that will just lead me to crippling inaction like how Christy best described it here:

Highlights of June/July (not in chronological order):

a) Making online Korean friends! - Went on HelloTalk mainly to make writing Korean a habit but of course people will interact with my Moments (posts) and we'll get talking in chats/comments. HT is a bit like online dating where you have to be wary of the people you interact with online since they may be scammers or pervs. But I've made a few online friends since then and one of them is Soyoung! We've gotten quite close since we have a few mutual interests (like F1 and rooting for Ferrari heh) and honestly talking to a native helps me a lot in retaining new words and being slowly more confident to speak in Korean hehe. I'm looking forward to meeting her (and her husband lol) in Daegu in Dec! Which brings me to...

b) Deciding to go on language immersion - IT. IS. FINALLY. HAPPENING. After thinking about it for a long while, I've decided to go all in and am going for a 2-week immersion course to Korea in late-Nov/early Dec! The pros tipped the cons for this one. Pros: Finally getting to scratch off my bucket list to go on exchange / live in a different country for a while (since I didn't manage to go on exchange in uni cos money was tight), the privilege of having adult money, good health, lower family commitments, and a lot of leave (thanks COVID?) to go on such a trip at this moment in time, exploring a city at my OTOT. Cons: Costing a lot of money hahaha (mostly because worldwide inflation is real so accoms are quite ex in Seoul now but I also wanted to treat myself and stay a few days at the end of my trip in a 5-star hotel I've been to previously heh). I've settled all the pre-payments for the trip so it's really just waiting for go time now (still sorting out my day-to-day itinerary but also keeping it flexi in case of class assignments to catch up on / classmates wanting to hang out after class etc. But my weekends are fully booked travelling all over Korea! 😛)

c) Work milestones

(i) Conducted my first Focus Group Discussion for work-related policy announcements from start till finish ie. coordinating participants, conducting the actual session, putting all the views together and coming up with recommendations in response to them (I was such a nervous wreck prepping for it but my bosses afterwards told me I actually did quite well phew)

(ii) Organised the quarterly division HLS (healthy lifestyle) activity - We picked group painting which tbh I thought would be so boring but it was actually fun! Because of our limited budget, the art studio we went to was in Textile Centre, a pretty dodgy shopping mall left behind by the times (there were "masseuses" outside the line of shops wearing very suggestive clothing at 12pm lol), and the corridor leading to the art studio was straight out of a horror movie hahaha. But I'm so happy everyone really had fun painting their pieces (with much guidance from the facilitators) and relieved to be passing on secretariat duties to the next group since my quarter was over hahaha.

(iii) Volunteer Fest - Helped out as a gig worker for this one; mainly to have some marcomms experience under my belt (since I'm still keen to go to CPD for my next posting) but also to have more things to write in my performance appraisal HAHA. I think it worked out! The main team was so on the ball that the gig workers didn't have much to do except for the initial managing of stakeholders and turning up on the actual event weekend to make sure everything went smoothly.

(iv) Malaysia Journalist Visit Programme - Another thing that I helped out with! Supposed to do the translations for the key fireside chat but the GOH ended up speaking wholly in English that the only thing that needed translation was: shiok sendiri (local lingo for being full of yourself; don't ask me the context of how this came up HAHA). But it was still fun putting my rusty MR skills to use in managing the journalists, ensuring the event space was well set up, and doing up the final transcript.

Me: Farah, I'm at OTH for the JVP but am an hour early.

Farah: Okay I'll drive down (she lives in Pasir Ris) and have lunch with you.

Hahahaha I love having sporting colleagues!

d) Social gatherings - Continued with Badminton as a habit whenever the courts were in the West (still not a pro player but I enjoy it as a form of exercise) and went for my first social bookclub! Chinyi invited me to the Quiet Readers' Club, something that she co-organised with Irma and I didn't expect myself to feel so at home at the first session 🥹 It's basically an hour or so of quiet reading and the next hour is spent going round sharing what book you're reading and if you would recommend to others (whilst having coffee / cafe food). I'm definitely making progress with my New Year's resolution to be more social in the things I like hehe.

Commemorating the month where Bukit Gombak Sports Hall finally revamped their badminton court / MPH hahaha the floor is so shiny new now.

I also went swimming! Tried out the supposedly waterproof function on my iWatch too but tldr it is a scam hurhur. SG's weather is too humid so the waterproof rubber sealant wears down pretty fast and the water was too much for my 4-year-old watch. Apple said my watch would deteriorate over time but after putting it in rice overnight it started working again! And still hanging strong some 3 months later lol.

e) Fangirl things

(i) Went to Byeon Wooseok's fanmeeting - In all the years I've attended concerts/fanmeets, this was the first time I honestly felt robbed of my money. The entire thing was so poorly organised - no directions of where to queue to collect your wristbands or bag checks when you're in the hall, the seats were so far for something I paid $2XX for, the show started an hour late with no explanation whatsover (this being a Korean fanmeet is even more appalling since they are known to start on time), the emcee was literally reading off his cue cards and it was clear he hadn't watched Lovely Runner at all, and the Hi-Bye session was basically a scam cos there was a flashlight aimed straight at our eyes (to prevent recordings I guess but wow so rude) that we couldn't even see Wooseok waving bye to us wtf. I made a whole TT which went viral hahahaha. The only saving grace was Wooseok himself - he did his best to perform and build some rapport with the robotic emcee huhu.

(ii) Attended an author sharing! - Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop is one of favourite reads this year; a cosy book on building your own bookshop cafe (literally my only dream in life) but also about the regulars, the staff and their life stories. I really enjoyed it a lot. So when I found out the author and translator (who is a Singaporean and an amazing polyglot) were coming to town for a book tour, of course I jumped on the chance to attend! Sya also came and we both had a great time listening to the sharing and the questions asked. It was also an impromptu Korean listening practice lol though Sya caught on to more of the words than me hahaha.

(iii) Went for Hady Mirza's concert - Okay this is more to accompany my mom since she's a longtime fan hahaha. Still fun tho! He had quite a few guests on stage too and they can all sing their hearts out. I love attending a Malay-centric concert - confirm kecoh (chaotic but in a good way) and everyone letting loose hahaha.

And that brings me to the end of the bimonthly wrap up! I think it's gone on long enough hahaha. Will get to Aug/Sept recap sooooon~

07•14•20 - Florida Day SEVEN slash BIRTHDAYYYYY 🎉 (it just now dawned on me that my birthday was the 7th day of our trip and that feels lucky)

So it finally came - my favorite day of the year!

I loved having both Beach and Mads there to celebrate with this year - in beautiful, sunny Key West. We counted down to midnight, and listened to chateau by blackbear - "....age 25 and I'm rich now!"

And then I got to do some birthday posts for Kena - which is my favorite thing.

After a very short amount of sleep (I was up wayyy too late), I was woken up with a confetti gun haha. Nothing better than colorful paper exploding on you like a gunshot when you're dead asleep! I got to open some presents - I got some disposable cameras from Beach (which I'm obsessed with for some reason - love some film photos!) and a pliable tripod from Mads - perfect for Tik Toks hahahaha. It has a phone attachment and it's super portable which will be perfect for traveling!

We had a fun day planned, but Beach was determined to get an early start so we could go buy a party hat for me to wear all day from Dollar Tree. So that's exactly what we did. It was maybe the first time we've ever been on-time for an excursion - so early, in fact, that we had time to stop at Starbucks for a morning treat!

The plan for the day was an all-day watersports adventure - because we would get to do all my favorite things. They said they were limiting the amount of people on the boat because of COVID, but it felt pretty packed to us haha. They asked us to wear masks when getting food throughout the day, but understood that it wasn't really plausible for us to have them on getting in and out of the water all the time. And yet, we still got yelled at for not wearing one by an asinine woman who is apparently morally superior, even though her husband didn't wear his. *eye roll* All I'm saying is, if you're THAT concerned, don't get on a boat with 40 people and then be rude about it!

We first drove out to the Great Florida Reef - the only living coral carrier reef in the continental U.S. for some snorkeling! This was so much better snorkeling than Miami Beach hahaha. There were huge, colorful fish everywhere! The water was perfect, and it was the greatest start to the day.

Then we drove back to shore, and had lunch - chicken, pasta salad, rolls... better than most foreign buffets we get on our excursions! When we reached our designated spot, we were separated into parasailing groups. We were in the first group to go out, and unfortunately, so was the previously mentioned asinine woman. When the guy helping out asked where we were from, and we said Utah, she did a big dramatic sigh and goes, "Oh, of COURSE they're from Utah." Let it be known that she also was not wearing a mask at this point, and that her rudeness was just extremely uncalled for wow.

The good news is we met an adorable lady from Louisiana who was so fun and kind. She'd been on vacation with her husband for a week, but he had to go back to work and she wanted to stay and play longer - so she did it solo. Awesome.

It was Maddie's first time parasailing, and it was so fun. They dipped us in the water, and it made me laugh to watch the video because my legs are just so much longer than theirs hahahaha. I love how quiet and peaceful it is in the air, and how far you can see!

There was a photographer on board who took photos of us while we were out there, and offered them to us for $60. We took him up on it, because Maddie really wanted them. (Spoiler alert: They're the worst photos I have ever seen hahahah we were SWINDLED.)

They took us back to our home base boat, where we could choose what to do from there. We started out with a ride on the wave runners! I was nervous because the last time we did wave runners on the ocean in Cabo, we couldn't SEE because the salt water flew into our eyes and hurt so bad we had to drive around with our eyes closed. But for some reason, we didn't have that problem this time! Maybe it was just less windy? But it was a complete and total blast. Warm weather, warm water... perfection. I love wave runners and vow to own one in 5 years or less.

Next we went for a ride on their hot dog shaped tube, being pulled by a wave runner. Beach had a very bad attitude about it because she loves crazy tubing and thought this would be lame, but I talked her into it anyway. Turns out, she was very wrong!! The guy (Captain Joe) tried to kill us! He was driving like a maniac. He said since it was my birthday I could choose if we went faster or slower, but I could hardly let go of the handles to signal to him! This is where we struggled with the salt water burning our eyes, and closing them only made the ride more terrifying because we couldn't see what was going on or anticipate the turns at all. He waited until we got back to the boat to tell us that we had ridden over a baby shark! How cool! Wild, wild time. But he didn't manage to knock anyone off. (;

Then we played on the water trampoline and water mats for a while. They're a lot of fun - especially trying to run on the water mat! I should invest. Then we went for another wave runner ride before the day was over. They had some kayaks, but we never got around to it.

We were roasty toasty from being in the sun for so long, but had so much fun.

We went back to the hotel to change and take photos, and I made dinner reservations at Benihana - which is similar to Teppanyaki! Mads hadn't ever been to a restaurant like that, so that was fun. We had a beautiful sunset to watch while we waited to be seated, and then a delicious dinner of more fried rice, steak, vegetables, and ice cream than we could eat! And I even wore my party hat hahaha.

We ended the night with some Tik Toks and reading all the birthday messages on social media from my cute friends and family.

The end of my birthday makes me very sad tbh. It's so fun, and I hate how quickly it comes to an enddddd! But this year was really a perfect birthday. Here's to 25, cheaper car rentals, and the excuse to have a mid-life crisis whenever I want. 🎁🎉🎈🧁

Wow okay…my personal top 11 is comprised of ppl I foundenjoyable to watch and have fun cheering for, I’m a sucker for dumb fools and hiddenstorylines so yeah.

yoon jisung- I likedhim ever since ep 1. I think that most, if not all of the trainees were chatteringaway during the auditions but I find that he seems to not really censor hismouth. I think a lot of the trainees are very and tense image conscious (theyshould be due to mnet) and Jisung (and the other MMO guys) were more relaxed. He’s funny but not offensive funny…Iremember like when Daehwi was explaining his avengers team, Jisung was likeyeah, go ahead and eat up all the popular members, Dahewi and JKKSJDKSJKJKSTHAT MAN. He seems like a genuinely fun and nice person to be a round, judgingby how he seems close to both his label-mates and his 10/10 group-mates….anyways📢📢📢I LVOETHIS MAN AND THAT ANTI WHO DM’D HIM TO GET HIM IN TROUBLE CAN SRSLY FCUK OFF!!!📢📢📢

kim taemin -  he was so cute in his intro vid but he was sonervous his voice was shaking so much lmao poor thing…. But im fucking….ifthere’s really a meme in this show, it’s taemin…everything they show of him, he’smaking a damn fool of himself. Him screaming in the hiddenbox thing, himfailing to do headstands, him dancing to nayana…yeah I lof the fool!! Park Jihoon –yeah that wink got me shook. But yeah, srsly speaking, his wink did catch myeye but I thought he was going to be wayyyyyy to cute-ish for my tastes. Kim Yehyeon – He seemslike a really sweet guy and this story is what basically made me stan him (andgave him that 39+ rank rise) my boy is a fuckin saint he went to the emergencyroom because he was too overworked and he had to perform Be Mine will injured..T_T He did not almost die for no screentime and continuous repeats and zoom-insof ppl gulping….anyways he’s also dumb, you should support 

Lee Junwoo – an actualbaby!!!!!!!! He caught my eye in episode 0 but I totally forgot who he wasuntil I saw his famous TATATA dance. What I liked about him was that he didn’t completelygive up after messing up and he kept on going hard @ the dance (he even made itto a C despite those mistakes!) he’s an awesome dancer and has good expressions!I really look forward to seeing his Shape of You stage (I think) I heard it wassupposed to be real good. I’m also screaming because he looks like a baby is ashuge as an elephant IRL 184CM HOOOLLLLLY

kim yongguk – I gotto know him because of that pann post and I support and adore him so much butnot as much as kim sihyun does!!!!! He’s a pretty nice vocalist and pretty goodsinger..but I think because baekho stole the entire stage, it’s hard to judgehis stage presence,  I really do lookforward to seeing his stage and seeing him be more of a savage!

Ahn hyungseop – Ilove him, he’s such a textbook slyth, he even expressed disappointment ingetting a lower rank than before. I can see why ppl don’t like him (similar todaehwi) but I really do adore him and his quirky ways. While I think he’s agood performer, I do think he would be more a B-rank rather than A. I’m stillnot quite convinced of his singing just yet….

Joo Haknyeon – tbh,I feel like he was born to be an idol with a face like that, I think it has amore idol-ish feel than Jihoon’s. I find that he’s a really decent dancer too!I do wish he had a better audition song…like why’d u choose that song and b-boyto it omf. He seems to be a total sweetheart as well! Hanywayz…..i wanna seemore of his friendship with ong, they seem to be good friends as well Y_Y @mnetGIV EHIM MORE SCREENTIME.

Yoo Seonho – it’sa surprised to me how much I like him?? He’s so cute and harmless lmao. I can totallysee why he was casted, along with guanlin, and sent out despite being only trainees for 6 months. they will super popular in thefuture (if cube doesn’t fuck up). I’m not really expecting much from him, beinga 6 month trainee, but he did surprisingly ok in sorry sorry compared to hisexperience, I’m looking forward to seeing his next stage. He also seems to be agreat guy, judging by his fanaccs and activities.

Yeo Hwanung – he’sa great dancer and stable vocalist, why is he being slepton?????????????????????? He seems super sweet and patient with Justin too likegoing through the notes together…

He’s also a fuckn miracle worker, my friend went fromdisliking him in ep2 to being a full stan by ep5 so I think he seems to be aperson that would keep fans engaged for a long time.

 Park Jihoon – Yeah, I’m kinda being biased, but he’d doreal well as a stan attractor! He dancing is good and I feel like he’ll improveon his singing soon….okay enough…

Kim Jaehwan – holyyy shit his voice is sooo good. All theguys in sorry sorry team 2 were good, but the dude carried the vocals for histeam, lbr. Im sincerely hoping he pulls up into the final 11, the vocals would get a huge upgrade holy shit son.

 Im Youngmin – alpacaaaaa aaaaaa!! He’s growing on me somuch and seems to be a very kind person, teaching the be mine moves foreveryone. I love that group so much, they seem genuinely close to each other !!  His rapping is good and he seems to be quitecharismatic on stage

Kim Taedong – His jump from F to A holyyyy shit whattaman!!!  His moves are sharp and he’s astable singer, I’m really liking what I’m seeing from him so far. I think he’s real idol material and he seems likea complete dork too, I loff!!!!!!

Yoon Heeseok, lmaoooo he’s also another living meme. He’san excellent singer, I really want him to work on his dancing a bit though but heseems to be improving quite nicely, from F-B. his shoulders are also killer.

Lee Daehwi – Another all-rounder. He doesn’t deserve thehate he gets, I honestly hope he makes it, he has the skills and personality tomake it into the idol world. He’s a sweet boy.
