Ol’ Saint Nicholas
Part 1/2: Aurora
Tumblr media
Summary: Against her wishes, Kate returns to her home for the Holidays, dreading the threats that await her in Williams Manor. She will have to face once more who she considers her mortal enemy and possibly the cause of Jacob’s disappearance.
Pairing: Implied/ Mentioned Charlie Weasley x ofc/Jacob’s sibling
Warnings: Mature, death/murder
A/N: Not your typical Christmas fic, it won’t be jolly, always here to provide angst and weird shit. The pairing is referenced because all my stories happen in the same universe. This is the Christmas after starting year 6 of Hogwarts. I stopped following hphm storyline in year 4 so maybe I took some liberties.
A proper christmas fic with charlie in it would be A very Walsh Christmas
-
Wouldn't you know that you'd
Be responsible for all the holiday noise?
Wouldn't you know that we'd be just like
Other little girls and boys?
-
The day was clear, disgustingly bright for the mood I was in, and it didn’t suit the place either. Tall, black metal fences opened when the black carriage that took me to this… my house arrived.
I said my goodbyes to the chauffeur and stepped out while securing my backpack on my shoulder, leaving my trunk behind.
Just as I was about to walk, Prim, one of my grandfather’s assistants apparated next to the carriage, grabbed my trunk and disapparated just as fast. I just hoped that they wouldn’t confiscate the gifts that the Weasleys gave me that summer for my birthday.
I sighed at the thought of Charlie, the Burrow, and the goodbye kiss we shared at King’s Cross, while staring at the block of stone and bricks that was the Williams Manor.
It stared back at me in the distance, tall and long, smirking at how all my secrets would be revealed when I crossed its threshold. I had to close my eyes, concentrate on something that wasn’t the splendid summer I had spent with the Weasleys, something other than a certain redhead that miraculously reciprocated, and most importantly, erase the memories of the start of this year at Hogwarts.
The first step I took towards the Williams’ grounds couldn’t have been more of a warning; looking down, I found my converse half-deep in mud and I sighed once more.
The terrain changed into grovel, and I rounded the black fountain, now frozen, towards the front door. I didn’t jump at the clunk of the gates smashing against each other behind me, or at one of the stone sirens at the fountain following me with her gaze, nor at the two suits of armours, one on each side of the doors, who suddenly pointed their spears towards my face.
“You should be able to recognise me by now.” I stated at them. “I live here.”
No response.
“Or maybe someone could update the system to something less invasive? Like a voice sensor or a secret code?”
I cocked my head to one side, delaying the inevitable. “How about a doorbell?”
The knights crossed their weapons, blocking the door, and I considered just for a brief moment apparating out of there. It would be illegal, yes, and difficult. Bill had been teaching me, but I couldn’t seem to get the hang of it just yet. Maybe running fast enough I could catch the car back to London…
If you are going to stand there… careful with the new vines that we planted.
A shiver ran through me. I almost forgot what it was like, what the feeling of the house being inside your head at all times was. I didn’t recognise the voice, maybe it was Nicholas, maybe one of the knights. Either way, I couldn’t resist a response.
I would prefer them over this.
Resigning myself after waiting for another attack on my psyche, the fear of freezing to death convinced me to just… accept it.
I reached out my hand aiming at one of the spears, and the knights were on the move again. They never cut too deep, just enough to draw out a single drop of blood. I hissed when it pricked me. I almost forgot that pain, too.
The drop travelled rapidly down the spear, growing bigger as it went, leaving silver sparks wherever it touched, and disappearing just as fast. The knight pointed at the lock and the drop jumped inside. I crossed my arms around myself as the two guardians returned to their original position, unmoving.
I patiently waited for the soft click that I heard, and after a loud thump both doors opened before me, letting me see the interior. Of course, one more obstacle awaited me, the magic detector barrier placed at the threshold, courtesy of Nicholas Williams.
I stepped through the invisible curtain, which glowed with my presence. My backpack opened with force, spitting my wand and a pair of earmuffs. Both of the items were left floating at my sides.
Almost immediately, Prim apparated before me. That day he chose a tall, languid, unhealthily pale appearance. Metamorphagi could turn into anything they wanted, and it never failed to surprise me how Prim seemed to prefer looks that make him resemble a serial-murderer. The only way to identify him was the unmistakable odour of the perfume he, in my opinion, bathed with instead of water.
“What is that?” He asked, pointing at the earmuffs.
“Hello, Prim. Merry Christmas to you too. That is for herbology homework.”
The lie slipped out of me too easily. Since I started being able to talk, I learnt how to take advantage of Prim’s poor knowledge of… everything. The man was as dumb as a teaspoon.
He hummed and clearly needing to attend to more important matters, he disapparated once again, not before cleaning my shoe with a hand gesture and a disgusted expression.
I picked my wand and earmuffs from the air and put them back in my bag again as I walked the long hallway inside.
To my left, the lights distracted me and I stopped to admire the living room, fully decorated for Christmas. I had to admit that as much as I hated staying inside the house, preferring my room or the outdoors whenever possible, the holidays decor deserved to be admired. Approaching the threshold, I peeked as carefully as I could, trying to avoid the guests who sat on the couches to see me. At least there was no sight of Nicholas, and since the living space was mostly empty, I would not be reprised for being the last to arrive. That gave me a bit of time to settle.
Taking one last look at the roof-high tree in front of the fireplace, I resumed my way.
The house was surprisingly quiet for Christmas, except for the music coming from the living room and the faint murmur of dishes being handled in the kitchen as I approached the also Christmas adorned staircase.
I couldn’t even take a step upstairs when the sound of a door opening came from my right. I turned my head, holding my breath, waiting for her to come out. However, the door to my grandmother’s studio only opened more, with no one stepping out.
Contemplating if I should just ignore it or giving in to the clear invitation, I heard steps coming down the stairs. I held my breath for a second, only to see Henriette, one of the cook’s assistants, murmuring under her breath with haste.
She halted when she spotted me, and I recognised the terror of almost encountering someone she didn’t want to. The same terror she probably saw on myself.
We relaxed and shared a smile.
“Merry Christmas, Miss Williams. It’s good to see you.” Her green eyes clouded with worry.
“Merry Christmas, Hattie. Is everything all right?” She huffed a laugh and gave me a sweet smile.
“Perceptive as always.” She glanced at the studio’s door and returned her attention to me. “Just a change of menu. I was going to help extend the table…”
Something above my shoulder prevented her from finishing her sentence. I turned around to find Prim staring at us from a distance.
“I must go. I hope you had a nice start of classes.” I just nodded, watching how both disappeared through the living room door.
I turned again, facing the opened studio. No one had come in or out. Fine.
Walking to it and opening the door fully, I found my grandmother sitting at her desk, her perfectly symmetrical built-in bookcases at her back. The cream walls were always plastered with paintings of dead ancestors that would judge me as soon as I entered the room.
Soft music came from a violin playing itself in the air at the corner.
She hadn’t looked up from the parchment she had in her hands, but I was sure she knew of my presence.
She had perfectly brown-dyed hair, slicked back and cut just below her ears, which were adorned with big pearls. They matched her brooch in her grey suit. Her expression was focused, I almost thought she was too busy to mind me attention but at last and without looking up, she spoke.
“What a gracious Christmas gift to bless us with your presence.”
“Aurora.” I saluted while entering. I ignored the numerous pairs of eyes that followed me from the walls. She still didn’t look up. I sat on one of the green armchairs facing her desk.
“One would think you don’t live here anymore.” She spat again.
I can handle her, I repeated mentally. Her speech was velvety and murderous, but Aurora was never dangerous. I had to force myself to remember that when she finally lasered me with her icy blue stare.
“I sent a letter saying I wouldn’t come back for the summer.” I defended myself “I even said I would buy my new textbooks by myself.”
When she didn’t answer, I kept going, “I figured one less person in the house would be one issue less.”
“Considering the headaches you caused at Hogwarts for five years and the situation with your brother, it is not ideal for you to disappear for six months.”
“I did not disappear. I sent an owl and if you were worried I didn’t go to class, you could have contacted professor McGonagall.”
She interlocked her fingers in front of her. “We did actually.”
I only answered with my eyes, So?
She sighed with a subtle roll of the eyes. With her scrawny fingers grabbed a quill, inked it and made a final annotation on her parchment before rolling it with care.
“I assume you had time to take your O.W.Ls with your Curse breaking extracurriculars…” she threw, while putting away the paper and grabbing another one.
I wasn’t sure if she wanted to see the scroll or my word would be enough.
“Acceptable in history of magic and exceeded expectations in astronomy.”
She looked at me again with predicted disappointment.
“And the rest?”
“Outstanding.” I offered simply. She seemed satisfied as she resumed unrolling her parchment.
“Hm… Isn’t history interesting enough for your time?”
I managed to relax back into the chair and watched her grab the quill before resuming her writing.
“I prioritised potions. I wanted to be able to take the NEWTs classes. Professor Snape said he wouldn’t accept any other mark.”
“To do what, exactly? Last year was curse breaking, the prior potioneer, before that was teacher…”
“I’m still debating my options with professor Sprout. I’m really into herbology at the moment.”
The violin stopped abruptly. Aurora lifted a neatly plucked eyebrow at me. I hate I got that ability from her. She considered me for an uncomfortable while.
“Is that why you brought those earmuffs?”
Snitch, I accused Prim mentally.
“Yes.” I offered with confidence. She hummed again and focused her attention to her desk once more. I could sense her losing interest.
Waiting for her to do some remark about suitable careers for me, of how I should follow her path with Arithmancy since I seemed to pass my classes “with ease”, or try as soon as possible to insert myself into a position in the Ministry.
There was none.
“Go freshen up and change. The rest of the guests will arrive soon.”
I watched in disbelief how quickly she dismissed me. She didn’t lift her gaze when I stood up, nor when I crossed the room, and I could swear she wasn’t bothered when I closed the door behind me either.
With that taken care of, I hurried upstairs before Prim and the new guests that were crossing the magic barrier spotted me.
My bedroom was the last door to the right on the second floor, with views of the backyard. Although I mostly complained about the oppressive interior of the house, always packed with rugs, clocks, paintings, mirrors and fireplaces on every corner, my room was originally made for guests, so it was very much empty in comparison.
I finally could breathe when I leaned against the closed door. It’s not that I hadn’t enjoyed my stay at the burrow for the summer, or that I didn’t enjoy having Rowan and Penny as roommates, but I needed to come back here, despite having trouble admitting it.
All the furniture matched with the same dark wood: my canopy bed, now with green and gold bedding; the big armoire on the other side of it; and my favourite addition that I stole from my mother’s room, a cylinder desk with enough drawers and nooks for my trinkets and jewels.
I threw my bag on the bed to retrieve my earmuffs.
This was the moment of truth.
Borrowed from Sprout and modified by Flitwick as a favour, one that I would have to pay with duelling set-ups and dummy maintenance, the earmuffs would serve a crucial role in keeping my sanity intact.
I covered my ears and instantly felt a light buzzing, as if I was hearing a distant swarm of bees. The only problem was, I didn’t know if Nicholas would be able to get in my head or not. He was powerful, a master in legilimency; I doubted that a pair of old earmuffs would prevent him from reading me like a book. But at least it would be more difficult.
Even from the second floor, I could hear movement outside the building. I crossed the room, dug one knee on the built-in seat below the three big windows that showed the backyard and looked down.
Aurora’s silhouette skittered across the grovel path towards two men I couldn’t recognise. They towered over her, but it was clear who was in charge when she turned towards the house and they followed two steps behind her.
Closing the curtains, I stepped away from the window, thinking about what to do with my time. Aurora said to get ready for dinner, but the house was mostly empty, Nicholas wasn’t anywhere to be seen, and Mom and Dad hadn’t arrived yet. I figured I could read a bit before I was robbed of any kind of alone time.
I picked my wand from the handbag and crossed the room again to open the wardrobe. Big enough for two people to sit, that piece of furniture was originally at the end of the hallway, guarding my uncle’s flying brooms and quidditch balls before I claimed it for myself. Squeezing inside and pushing books and boxes away from me, I thought about how I just decorated my room with furniture no one wanted.
With the door closed, I sat with my knees to my chest, surrounded by darkness.
Lumos.
I immediately grabbed the book on top of the small tower I had made months ago, Death Omens: What to Do When You Know the Worst Is Coming by Mauricios Carneiros, one of the few volumes in this house’s shelves that was half interesting, and that’s saying a lot since I wasn’t particularly attracted to divination.
After finding a comfortable position, I started rereading Chapter 3 and soon I lost myself in the reading session.
I was about to finish the chapter when the creaking sound of my bedroom door made me look up. Attempting to listen, I could identify the sound of the door closing, and steps around the room.
I didn’t want to move a muscle, but I had to shake the wand slightly to turn it off.
I held my breath.
The steps got closer, silenced for a moment when they stepped over the rug, and reverberated again when they hit the wood once more.
I gripped my wand tighter.
The doors of the wardrobe flew open, and I hissed when my eyes met a new light that wasn’t my wand.
“Aha!”
Relief cursed through me when the figure kneeled down to reveal mom’s face. I threw my head back, resting it on the wood.
“I thought it was my last day.” I mumbled, pressing my palms to my eyes.
“You chose Carneiros to entertain yourself. Your reward is paranoia.” She said with sparkling eyes and the Irish tilt to her voice that I realised then I missed terribly. “And what is that?” She pointed at my earmuffs.
“Tell Aurora to renew her collection, then.” I replied, taking the earmuffs off.
I slithered out into mom’s open arms and closed my eyes when she squeezed me against her.
“How did you know I was here?” I asked against her black dress. She started caressing my back.
“Jacob used to hide in there, too.”
I let her hug me a little while, and I felt her need my embrace as well. My brother’s topic was still a delicate matter, cause of many fights among all the members of the family who all had different, and quite strong, opinions about Jacob’s whereabouts.
“Tell me everything about Belgium.”
“And you tell me everything about this Charlie person.”
I looked up petrified and found her teasing smirk.
“I wasn’t snooping. You just left your things all over your bed.”
I tsked. The bloody letter that said Charlie with a heart on it.
“Well…” She chuckled and started to get up.
“Come on. Let’s get you ready for dinner,” she sighed,  “It’s going to be a long night.”

I can see Leo not understanding what Ben means by this.
In Leo’s mind, what happened in the cursed vault was barely anything. He already didn’t trust Rakepick so not even her betrayal shook him. He’s experienced far worse so it doesn’t even occur to him how bad that must have been for Ben. So he doesn’t know why Ben is “overreacting” abt the cursed vault, Leo may be a trained little war machine but he is still a boy, a traumatised kid who just isn’t thinking about Bens experience

"Now that I know my brother is safe, will I finally bring peace to the people of Hogwarts from the curse?"
Tumblr media
The End of Something Beautiful
And the Start of Something Terrible
After gathering at the Great Hall, Jeniferl could not stop wondering about many things
One is how she'll start this year without Professor Rakepick.
She still calls her professor despite everything she's done. She just wanted her to know the reason behind her actions and apologize to the people she hurt.
Another is that she still couldn't stop thinking about Jacob.
She may have finally found and save him but he disappear again without making any contact to her the whole summer. But now she knows that he's alive gives her a little bit of peace in mind.
Speaking of someone who didn't make any contact, Ben was also nowhere to be seen despite her and Rowan looking for him the whole summer.
They felt like he's been avoiding them, especially Jeniferl. But Jeni blames herself again cause she though that he has become more scared after what she brought them into. She become worried about how she was bringing him to danger in their relationship.
And after a strange man took her suddenly and swore to secrecy during Bill's celebration last school year, she can only keep this thoughts on to herself. She rather do a lot of helping instead to the people she caused trouble to find her brother and find the last cursed vault as soon as possible to end the curse.
Though Rowan notice how Jeniferl was too worried and thinking more about others without even thinking about herself. She can see that Jeniferl is carrying too many responsibility even though its just their first day of of sixth year. So she wanted her to take a break in her own way, by touring her around Hogwarts.
Tumblr media
They are already sixth year and too late for a tour around Hogwarts but Rowan thought that Jeni has been too occupied that she didn't have time to enjoy the beauty of the castle like how she sees it. Rowan tour her around, inform her about the facts and details like she's a Professor touring her first year students. Seeing this makes Jeniferl happy and, for a bit, forget her worries and enjoyed her time with Rowan.
"I can already see now that Rowan will become a wonderful Professor in the future"
Jeniferl thought as she felt a strange shiver when she passes the window...
~~~
phew, would have been better to make a comic of this one but this is already enough for me~ dammit i don't have the time to draw anymore (╥﹏╥) But finishing this lighten the weight of wips that i've been carrying in my head~~
Gotta clear my mind and prepare for board review and exam soon y'know... pray for me...
But i will still draw some scenes especially before year 6, and my ocs from other hogwarts games... So thanks for reaching this far, hope you had fun reading this adorable moment... for now... 0-0
The twins new design
(I also changed their personality a little bit and their animagus form as well)
Tumblr media
Cereza Gomez:
"Being the oldest twin and the oldest sibling after her half brother Raphael dissapeared, Cereza had to mature earlier to look after her twin brother Michael becoming more brave to be able to protect him. But even then Cereza is described as somewhat curious, kind and loyal. She doesnt get scared easily in the face of danger which is good if she wants to follow her dreams of becoming a magizoologist. "
Tumblr media
Michael Gomez:
"Michael being the youngest was always protected by his family, including his sister, a lot so he grew wanting to be independent wanting to be strongest better at everything so he can prove himself to be the best and that he needs no one's help. He is described as hot headed, brave and a trouble maker but with a good heart."
in my expanded Hogwarts Mystery fics, there is one theme that i particularly love to write about and it's the fond relationship between Cassidy and Percy
by the time Percy comes to Hogwarts, he keeps hearing great stories about Cassidy Mercury who protects the school from the dangerous Cursed Vaults. also she's one of the best students in her age, good friends with his two older brothers and later, she becomes a prefect.
so naturally he looks up to her.
but Cassidy wins his loyalty on one thing and that is because she saved him from Rakepick in Year 5 and 6. you read that right, Cassidy saved his life twice.
at this point, she has become like a big sister figure for him. she doesn't brush him off because he's younger, but she sits down and listens to him. she pays attention to him. she respects his opinions and doesn't make fun of him.
for example, when they first met in Year 5;
Percy: We haven't been properly introduced...I'm Percy Weasley, future Gryffindor Prefect, Head Boy and eventual Minister of Magic. Cassidy: Sounds like you have your entire life planned out. :)
we know that the Weasley siblings would poke fun at Percy for saying that, but Cassidy doesn't and respects his ambitions. she has treated him like an equal since day 1 and that's why she won Percy from the beginning.
in-game, they have gone even on adventures with Percy. like when the twins disappeared in Year 6 and we're looking for them with Percy who is, understandably really worried (caused there is a dangerous Cursed Vault at the works!) and even ventures into the Forbidden Forest with Cassidy.
and in the sidequest where there is a party in the Borrow while the parents are away on business, Percy choses to lie (it's a white lie to spare Charlie and the others from trouble) when their mum asks them if there were any trouble.
Percy: It's true! I even organized your sock drawer! (when Molly asked if it was true everyone did chores and did not do anything suspicious)
also when finding out that dark artefacts were moved to the Ministry, Cassidy goes to find Percy (and Tulip, but she isn't really fond of talking about the Ministry). the minute Cassidy asked for Percy's expertise, this is the first time we see him so openly happy and excited.
Cassidy Mercury (the MC): Tulip, Percy. I need you to tell me everything you know about the Ministry of Magic headquarters. Percy (excitedly): Merlin's bread, where do I begin?!
clearly, Cassidy trusts his judgement and knowledge more than well enough to ask him about his input and Percy becomes to happy about being important enough to be asked for his expertise. that is really heartwarming.
not to mention in that same scene, Percy agrees to help Cassidy break into the fucking Ministry because she helped him finding Fred and George.
and in my stories, Rakepick actively manipulates and endanger Percy because of his Seer abilities (yes, Percy has strong Seer powers in my fanfics, but he's not strong enough for a full prophecy). he has a bigger role in my HM stories since Rakepick is more villainous and she ends up using Percy as a leverage to get to Bill, Charlie and Cassidy.
the section below is spoilers for year 6 in my HPHM fanfiction
[in one of my fanfic stories (during Year 6), Rakepick takes him as hostage to the Forbidden Forest. Percy had, by this point, become used as a tool to "predict" the future of Rakepick and the Cursed Vaults. his Seer power (which Percy has named as "foresight") isn't strong enough for a full prophecy and Rakepick decides to use him as a bait for the Cursed Vaults.
back at the castle when the gang is preparing to infiltrate the meeting Rakepick is having with 'R' in the forest, they find out from Oliver Wood that Percy has gone missing and his "rat" is acting weird as in full panic. Cassidy then realizes that there is a connection between Percy's terrified behavior for the past months and quickly deductes that Rakepick has him.]
Cassidy saved Percy's life twice and she has promised him that no matter what happens to her or in the future, she will always return to save him. so his feelings about Cassidy is nothing but pure love and loyalty, like how a younger brother sees his big sister. with Cassidy in the picture, Percy is no longer the odd one out in his family (where everyone are paired with someone except him).
in my Wizard Archivist series, the theme of their friendship is especially in focus because Cassidy is, since before the HP book events starts, locked in a hellscape world beyond the real Cursed Vault and Percy struggles to re-open that vault to bring her home with risk for his own life. '
conclusion? Percy genuinely loves Cassidy, as if it was his big sister and she has always been there for him, wheather it's saving his life or just listening to him rambling. it's an innocent and pure love. Cassidy, who is the younger sister to Jacob and has no younger siblings, adores him in the same way.
in a way, Cassidy became a substitiute when Bill and Charlie were too busy with their lives and a source of unconditional love for Percy.
and the kicker is when Cassidy came to save him the first time, she had just smiled and told him that everything would be alright because she was there now.
thanks for coming to my TED talk about Percy and his inofficial "big sis" role model Cassidy Mercury
Fic Writer Interview (20 Questions)
This tag game passed by twice, once in January (because apparently this post has been sitting in my drafts that long) and again several months later, so forgive me for not remembering who to tag! These questions seem fun, so if anyone wants to join, feel free to say I tagged you!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
20 at the moment, with plenty more WIPs.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
480,895 words and counting.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Not counting TMW bonus content, the top 5 are:
The Mad Witch (758 kudos)
"The Scarlett Cauldron" (77 kudos)
"Fear Itself" (76 kudos)
"The Most Powerful Witch" (72 kudos)
"Piper's Best Worst Day" (57 kudos)
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! I love engaging with my readers and other members of the fandom. Every comment always makes my whole day. Life gets busy sometimes, so I don't always have the time to respond to every single one, but I definitely see and appreciate all of them!
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Usually my fics have fairly hopeful endings, but "3 Years Ago," a pre-canon Murdered: Soul Suspect fic might fit the bill. Sometime in the future, it has the potential to be topped by "Will of the People," a Fallout 4 WIP that revolves around the Diamond City anti-ghoul riots.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
My Secret Santa fics, "It's Not the Fall" and "Flawed Phials," definitely have the fluffiest endings!
7. Do you write crossovers?
Nope!
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I get rude or condescending comments on occasion from people who don't know how to hit the back button and/or are unfamiliar with fandom etiquette, though nothing actively malicious. The one time I received a transphobic/homophobic message in response to TMW it was private (if it was public, I would have deleted it; I don't give a platform to that kind of thing at all), and honestly I hope that person is in a better place now because they really didn't seem okay at the time. I'm fortunate that the vast majority of my readers and mutuals are such wonderfully amazing and kind people.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes, BUT, before you get too excited, not in The Mad Witch. Smut is by definition graphic, and TMW has a Teen rating that shall remain unchanged.
The smut scenes I've drafted so far (F/F and F/M) are for my Rosemary Reaper series (post-canon Fallout 4 WIP). Those fics will all be rated Mature, so while not overly explicit, they'll definitely be spicier than TMW. Maybe I'll share a snippet sometime if there's any demand for it.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of?? I have long since deleted my Wattpad account, so my fics should only be on AO3. If anyone ever finds one of my fics elsewhere in the wild, please let me know.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have not, which is probably for the best. I would like to make some heavy edits to the beginning of TMW when I'm done with it.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not a fic, though I have co-written a short fantasy story with a friend, with him writing for one POV character and me for another. We agreed on major actions and story beats, but we each kept a major secret that we didn't reveal until after we had written our individual parts. It was a lot of fun (though we were both painfully unskilled at the time).
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I don't know if I really have one. I have ships I enjoy and characters I like to pair with OCs, though nothing I feel properly obsessive over. This might be a consequence of primarily writing for video game fandoms. But I do have my default game romances: Merula in HPHM, Piper in Fallout 4, Marcurio in Skyrim, etc. I'm also a sucker for unrequited love interests, like Serana in Skyrim and Aveline in Dragon Age 2. The ANGST.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I never want to say never because I'm currently 83,435 words into the last fic I said I would never write. But there are two fics that I'm almost certain I will never finish, which I'm kind of sad about: my post-canon Murdered: Soul Suspect longfic, A Certain Darkness, and my RWBY OC team longfic, DSRT.
I made it just shy of 200,000 words into A Certain Darkness before I had to drop it. My writing skills ended up surpassing the progress I had made, and by the time I realized how many characters, relationships, and plot points were just straight up bad, I had written myself into a corner. I do love Joy and Angel so much, a medium/ghost duo with way more homoerotic tension than my closeted teenage self ever intended. Maybe one day I'll gut the story, drop the characters into a different setting, and make it something original. One day.
DSRT ran into a similar problem, though fortunately I only ever wrote the first few chapters. I could probably reattempt it if I really wanted, but with the overwhelming number of WIPs I already have, it's hard to imagine finding the time. I do miss my team of teenage idiots: Dustin, Saul, Rosemary, and Talos. It was supposed to have a really tragic ending too, which I don't often get to write.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I often receive compliments on how human I make my characters feel, which is the highest honor anyone could give. I've been told my dialogue frequently flows smoothly too.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Conciseness. Why is this post so long omg.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Do it carefully and with necessity. Maybe a character is bilingual and blends languages, so it's part of their characterization. Maybe a password or spell needs to be said in another language because it's old or pretentious. It can work, but it can also be easy to mess up. I personally avoid writing dialogue in languages I don't have a good grasp of, or I try to consult other people if I do (not Google Translate, which sucks).
There's also the matter of if the POV character even understands the language being spoken. If they don't, then I don't write the language out (unless it's a phrase the character is going to learn later on). In these instances, it makes more sense to write something like, "The man muttered a phrase in a language she didn't recognize," or "She fired off something in Spanish, the words too quick to catch."
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars the Clone Wars, baby! I was like ten or eleven. Never published, but my worldbuilding for that longfic (a saga, more like) was insanely elaborate. Alas, another story for the WIP graveyard.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
Eventually, I want to get back to my Skyrim WIP, which includes a main Dragonborn/Marcurio ship. Maybe even with a little Dragonborn/Serana infidelity on the side (which Marcurio absolutely does not deserve, the poor guy).
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
I mean, I have to say The Mad Witch, don't I? That fic is where my community is, where every time I post a chapter I have a ton of people who get excited about it with me. It is the story I think about constantly, that I have spent literal years writing and daydreaming about. No matter what I've written before or will write since, this will be the defining fic in my journey as a writer.
That, and I have a special fondness for "Case by Case." I just think it's neat.
@hphm-ship-week Prompt 5: Second Wizarding War
Fun fact, none of my ocs directly participate in the war!
Ship: Gracie/Charlie 💚🐉
Date: late June, 1997 (been in Romania for 6 years)
Fuck, it was supposed to be a good day. There were new Norwegian Ridgeback eggs that were set to hatch sometime before noon, and the whole sanctuary was throwing a party after. Someone was making fresh pizza. Would it be considered a bad coping skill to just ignore what they'd learned until tomorrow?
...yeah, it would.
Bill had been attacked. A bunch of Death Eaters and Fenrir fucking Greyback had been set loose on Hogwarts, and while no one had died, it sounded like Bill had come close.
"It's bad," Arthur said through the Floo. "I almost didn't recognize him."
Gracie thought her fingers might fall off, but she wasn't about to ask Charlie to let go of her hand. Not now. He looked like he might faint, and while Gracie was a Healer, she'd really rather if he didn't collapse on their living room floor.
"But he's okay?" she asked.
Arthur sighed. "He should be, but we can't know for sure. It's close enough to the full moon that Remus is worried something could happen, but he doesn't think it'll be anything serious. We're just going to have to wait and see."
"Is he awake? Can I come talk to him?" Charlie begged.
"He's still asleep. And these fireplaces aren't set up for international travel," Arthur responded. "He was up for a little while last night, and he was talking fine and remembered everything. I think the worst bit is the scarring."
Bill had been scarred before - he was a cursebreaker, he'd gotten a lot worse than that - but werewolf gashes on his face was a whole other level.
Gracie felt ill just imagining it. For probably the millionth time, she cursed the general wizarding world's lack of research into werewolves. There was no fixing a scar left by a werewolf, even in human form. Someday someone who actually gave a shit would figure it out, but not while this war was turning more and more people against the idea of werewolf rights.
"I've got to get some rest," Arthur said after a long pause. "I'll call you again later, alright?"
Charlie didn't answer. Gracie took one look at his face and sighed. She knew that blank expression a little too well; he wasn't there anymore.
Arthur knew it too. "Take care of him, Gracie," he said. "Bill's fine, really. I promise."
"I will," Gracie said, and the flames went out. Charlie didn't react at all.
Even as broken as he was, there were some things that Gracie knew Charlie couldn't miss, and one of those things was a hatching. He'd be devastated if he didn't get to watch their little baby claws stomping around while they squeaked. Resigning herself to a long fucking day, Gracie steered Charlie toward the kitchen to get some breakfast in him.
(Bill was one of her first ever friends, dammit, why wasn't she allowed to break too?)
She got some toast in him, and that was probably as good as she was going to get, so she gave up on the idea of a big breakfast so that they could skip lunch.
"We're going to his wedding," Charlie said suddenly.
Gracie turned the sink off, dishes half washed, and sat down next to him at the table.
"I don't care what's going on here," he continued. "I don't care if they fire me. We're going to his wedding."
"They wouldn't fire you for that," Gracie said, taking his hand.
"Even if they did."
"Okay."
"Should we move back home?" Charlie asked, looking at her for the first time since Arthur called. "I hate that they're all fighting for their lives and we're just carrying on like nothing's happening."
Gracie wanted to say an immediate no, no fuckingway, she wasn't doing that shit again and he couldn't make her, but she forced herself to breathe. The answer was still going to be no, but she understood where he was coming from. This was his entire family at risk. Hers was far from the action, so of course it would be easier for her to choose self-preservation. Plus, Charlie was a dumbass Gryffindor, so it was in his nature to be bold and rash and get himself fucking killed -
"No!" she snapped, and then sighed, because she hadn't wanted to say it like that.
Charlie stared at her in surprise.
"We can send them money and supplies, or we can bring them over here, but I'm not risking you," she said. "I can't risk you."
Squeezing her hand, he nodded. "But we're going to the wedding."
"Of course we're going to the wedding," Gracie agreed. One wedding wouldn't kill anyone. "And right now, we're going to see the hatching."
Finally there was a small spark back in Charlie's eyes. "Yeah, okay, lets go."
Somehow, they managed to make it through the hatching and even the party with only a couple of people asking if everything was alright, but it was a close call. Gracie practically fell into her favorite armchair - the one Charlie had found in an antique shop that was the perfect shade of Slytherin green - and let her eyes close. She had a pounding headache, induced both by stress and a bit too much alcohol.
She could hear Charlie pacing by the fireplace, waiting for Arthur to call again. It had better be good news when he did.
"Love, wake up."
Gracie forced her eyes open. When the hell did she fall asleep?
Charlie had tears in his eyes, but he was smiling brightly. "Bill's on the Floo, if you want to talk to him."
Wide awake, she was wide awake. Gracie jumped out of the armchair and ran to the Floo, and there his image was: beaten, scarred, and clearly exhausted, but smiling.
"Don't I look badass?" Bill joked. "I'm thinking I should get another piercing, really lean into it. Maybe a lip ring?"
"Fuck off," Gracie said, and Bill laughed, and it was all okay.
Cressida is a Slytherin alumni. She works at the Wizengamot and leads a seemingly successful life. On the inside, she's struggling though. She's not happy with her life and her unhappiness is affecting her relationship with her daughter. She loves Callie but is misguided in her efforts to make her choices for her and attempt to keep her in line.
Tumblr media
Father: Castor Black, the younger brother of Orion Black
Castor attended Hogwarts as a Slytherin. He's unlike most of his family members in that he is softer and less likely to spout blood-purist rhetoric. He has constantly lived in the shadow of his older brother and doesn't know how to stand up to him.
Hogwarts
House: Ravenclaw (hat stall with Slytherin)
Career
17->: tbd
Personality & Attitude
Callie is the quiet sort who prefers the company of books to people. She doesn't go out of her way to make friends and can often seem cold or even rude to people who don't know her, but she's quite friendly once you manage to break through her surface. Deep down, she feels very alone due to her parents being distant and being an only child. She struggles with creating meaningful connections but craves them deeply.
She responds best to speaking of common interests, like books or music. She's a little bit clueless about the Muggle world and finds learning about Muggle culture fascinating. Callie is creative and sometimes scribbles poetry in the margins of her essays or in little notebooks. She doesn't have ambitions to become a poet as a fulltime job, though.
Priorities: Friends, gaining knowledge, independence
Strengths: Clever, works well under pressure, loyal to loved ones
Weaknesses: A bit of a loner, a penchant for melancholy, can come off as rude
Stressed: When dealing with her family or studying for exams
Calm/Comforted: With her friends and in the library
Favorites
Colors: Black
Weather: Rain
Hobbies: Reading, writing poetry, Wizard chess
Fashion: Business casual, blacks and grays, some grunge vibes
Relationships
Significant Other/Love Interest: Talbott Winger
Callie and Talbott have been house mates since year one, but they only really started to speak during year 4, when Callie got her pet owl Orpheus and started to spend time in the Owlery. They both enjoy a comfortable silence and the quiet comfort of each others' company.
The two started dating during year 6. They were together until graduation, after which they broke up for a while but reconnected during the Second Wizarding War. They married and have one daughter together.
In your personal opinion. Do you think I should try to get through the hphm storyline? I think I was in year 2, but never got past that.
honestly if you have fun with the game and like the story yes you should defintely try
otherwise....its a huge time commitment and it can be soooo hard to get through because of the energy mechanic, and grinding you have to do for attributes and not to mention all the time-limited sidequests that pop up and get in the way of you progressing in the main story AND also there's the quidditch storyline
there's just SO MUCH to get through. I started this blog in August 2019 when i was barely starting year 3 and it took me a whole year to get caught up all the way to year 6 chapter 33. that's with minimal money spent and playing this game pretty much every single day. and now there's even more to get through with year 6, year 7 and now beyond hogwarts and even more sidequests that have been added
if it wasnt for the hphm community, this blog, and me wanting to see what was going to happen with merula... i prob would've either given up or it would've taken me a lot longer to catch up
and i know im not selling it to you very well right now LOL i would just try! try it for as long as your interested in the game. just have fun! don't stress so much about catching up or doing all the sidequests, etc.
Note
I went down your Barnaby tag to find a specific fanart, and ended up following recommended posts rabbit hole beneath and found out:
Freyja used to be more expressive
Her cat used to be giant ginger half-kneazle named Chester, gifted by her grandma, just like her current cat whose name and coloring are different
Poor baby Roger used to be terrified of her and that still makes me laugh
man i always wondered how people found my old old hphm stuff and then i realised that recommended posts doesn’t give a shit how old your posts are… 😅 hope you found the post you were looking for!
and you bring up some interesting points there ->
1. Freyja being more expressive
before i figured out what kind of character i wanted to make, she was a lot more expressive. but then her old personality was reminding me a bit too much of another old OC, so i moved into a different direction to really kind of separate her from that.
2. Chester the Cat -> Knick(erbocker) the Kat
the original (HUGE) cat didn’t really contribute anything story-wise so I just didn’t draw it again. then thanks to an anon and my weakness for cats, it was brought back in the form of Knick - a bit smaller and a whole lot cattier. ✨
3. Roger used to be terrified of Freyja
he avoided her like the plague when they went to school together. Freyja was kind of Going Through It during years 6 and 7, and it showed. So every time she came into view, he made sure to keep well out of her way i.e. hiding.
Hi!
Do you prefer HPHM or HPMA? Which is better in terms of storyline, animation, and characters in your opinion?
-Sincerely, from a dumb anon that is me 💋😷
at this point i really prefer hpma over hphm for a lot of reasons and most of them are how hphm fails in everything you just mentioned
the story gets messy super messy as the years go by, they stretch the chapters like gum making em tedious and boring
the animation is sometimes nasty like some 3d models look bad very bad, as if they just wanted to get the job done instead of making sure said job is good
the characters are... meh. i like some of them but the main story focuses on some of the ones that get worse as the story progresses: like the stupidity that is jacob's sibling, the pain in my ass that is merula snyde, jacob "i am found and never seen again for some reason", the supposed-to-be big bad of the story who's VERY important as he's RELATED to the main characters and is never mentioned until the last year of school. why.
also. another problem that annoys me. the less focus the have on the story and more on adding things that don't really matter. like the amount of sidequests and how much of them they do, and how emphasis they put in them on social media. the perfect example is the big elephant in the room, the romance. like most people only care about the romance because jc stopped caring about the story and it shows, and its seems like they have some sort of dateline to make a new romantic sidequests so that the players keep in touch with the game (at least that's how it feels for me)
as you can see hphm was good, even great. i loved the story and the characters. i liked the mystery behind the vaults and our brother, the mc wasn't stupid, i even liked merula because she was a not-annoying bad bitch that knew more of the mystery than us, there was rowan khanna, they created talbott winger thanks you lord, the story was captivating and it didn't need to be like 60 chapters long i'm looking at you year 6 even the romantic subplot was okay for me, the celestial ball and the first date are peak tlsq and tulip and ismelda was dateable i mean c'mon
but they fucked up
so bad
and i'm hoping the same doesnt happen to hpma. i've finished the main storyline and i kind of like ivy and lottie's stories, they're super cute. the artstyle is GORGEOUS it blows my tiny mind, and the animation is great. i really like it! all the things you can do in the castle such as going to class, dueling, dancing or exploring the forbidden forest are really cool and they keep me interested. its just like being at hogwarts. also the characters here are great and they all have a different story to be told (i'm seeing you daniel)
also i never got to play hogwarts legacy or any of the hp games in the ps2, so this is like my first experience of an open-world hogwarts and... it's cool!
i really dont want to glorify this game, there are some things i dont like about it, but until now i'm really enjoying it!
so i feel like hpma might be better than hphm in terms of animation and storytelling, obviously. and i like the characters in both games, but in hphm they downgrade in quality and writing... so i guess hpma wins
dont get me wrong i still love hphm, but what i hate is what they've done to it
i hope this wasn't too long. if you have anything to say about what i've said feel free to do so. my opinion is just an opinion after all
