What's the name of the game where one person is "IT" and counts to a number while everyone else hides and then has to find the other players?
Bonus: Tell me in the tags where you're from (OP is from the US)
My proofreader is correcting me and sure, I've heard both ways but I've never heard that my version is wrong, so I'm curious if this is a standard thing or a regional variation based on where I grew up.
#etta rambles#I'm from central/western PA#I also drop the “to be” part of verbs like “The dishes need to be washed” instead I'll say “the dishes need washed”#linguistics

Thoughts on New Jersey, just like... all of it. Anything and everything! I wonder what you have to say about it as someone bordering from PA lmfao
Pennsylvanians will say they hate NJ (Whole truth and it's common knowledge that most of central/Western Pennsylvanians [at least] hate New Jersey...) and then they will go to their beaches every year on vacation... The irony...
However, I am part of it. It's a state I don't really care for, I must admit. I'm sorry. I don't HATE NJ, but I have not met a lot of nice people from NJ in my time either which doesn't help it's reputation to me... I've always wondered why it's so fucking expensive to live there too. Yeah, it's "near New York and/or Philly," but Jesus Christ...
Also, Jersey DRIVERS... Oh. My. God. Jersey drivers do not fear death. I will slam a New Jersey driver until the end of time. I see that yellow and white license plate and I feel a cold sweat break out. Get off the fucking road for real. It's bad enough NJ citizens still don't pump their own gas. Like, get with the times LMAO.
I guess I have to say the one positive is of course the NJ music scene... We wouldn't have Springsteen, Halsey, My Chem, Senses Fail, Thursday, etc. if it weren't for the state so I suppose I will say my thanks and my gratitude for that! Everything else? Thin ice. <3
#answered#beetlejuce#I just realize as I read all this back that this comes across as very harsh... I am sorry.

From PA, the first one I saw was at the end of October. I thought it was a one off or a neighbor messing around. There's a lot of open land around where I live, so it makes sense that someone would test their drone here.
However...
I am closer to central Pennsylvania rather than the east coast.
The drone was flying around the height of a 2 story house, had about 2 or 3 white lights and one flashing red.
Again, I thought this was a one off, especially since I did not see it in that area again. But now that I'm seeing all these reports. Shrug.
Also have a friend in Virginia who, just yesterday, said they saw a drone in their neighborhood as well. This person is also more on the western side of Virginia rather than coast.
alright so we’ve all been talking the united healthcare case n class wars (which don’t stop. this is just an interlude) but what the FUCK is up with the hundreds of drones being spotted in new jersey, new york, and other east coast states??? and some of them r CAR sized? that apparently are ‘not a threat to national security’ but the government refused to disclose what they are, even to other politicians?? hello????????????????????

I don't feel like the u.k. for example sees any benefit in conquering my country. But why do I feel that way when looking at the central plains it seems inevitable that these states continue to provoke each other for better positioning, better defense, better offense. And splitting getting swallowed up splitting. You can't ignore war as a state. Sun Tzu said that. Sensible man. So am I wrong is the u.k. a threat to my states national sovereignty after all or what factors stop it from trying to expand here. Solidarity? Common but separate identity? 'global north' I.e the people are not prepared to start a fight? Need completely different propaganda for that. Casus belli. Self-defense. Trade? Economy is so integrated that disrupting that would require an overhaul and the people would hate the consequences? Democracy is a brake then? The infeasibility of launching a military campaign that is meant to result in more land and population administration? I.e. it would require more than the professional army could deliver and the people do not want to fight. Waging war to extract wealth directly and obviously being an international faux pas? It would weaken the block against more aggressive blocks? I never did war politics in school
You need the people to be more blatantly imperialist in worldview... Expansion = good. And the state comes first. So individualism and democracy are brakes. Expansion would need to be equated with the existential question.
Anyway what I'm wondering could these central plains states have prevented this shit? Obviously individualism and democracy...I mean that's the thing all the states would need these brakes and none of them have em. They already possess a common identity basically. The people are used to fighting for the state and gaining from it too... Or seeing it as a duty. You gotta expand bc if your enemy expands then they have more resources and you cant keep up so you gotta expand and conquer why not conquer some more. But that didn't truly kick off until the western Zhou king got killed and the Zhou was no longer of any consequence. In other words the 'biggest' baddest state no longer had control. It really seems like that's the only. Unless you had a bigger enemy. Confederation. Band together. Or trade? But there's not big mercantile class or it doesn't seem like it. And the concept of sovereignty somehow strengthened. But then you get aggressors from outside the system again. But that SHOULD be fine if your integration is really well done. Anyway I should watch a show about the eastern Zhou it would be good to romanticise it a little. Is it beneficial at all to create centralised administrations because they pool resources for pursuits like philosophy or something? Feel like the Greeks did just fine having city states. Could you have prevented the arms race of the central plains? Or was it inevitable....?
#anywayyyyy#my stuff#personal#i guess one does have to look at europe-us-china-india levels by now#maybe idk but even in qin times and then in manchu times again they say all these people wanna settle#so maybe the main drive of the chinese state does relate to having a readily available ever increasing population#oh well#it doesnt matter#nothing i can do anyrhing about

OneNETnews EXCLUSIVE: Local Transport Group in Negros Oriental opts out of Nationwide Transport Strike ensures continued operation amidst challenges of PUJ Modernization Programme
DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- National transport groups, namely the Malayang Alyansa ng Bus Employees at Laborers para sa Karapatan sa Paggawa (MANIBELA) and Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) declares a nationwide transport strike on Sunday (November 19th, 2023), which is for the unconsolidated individuals. However, Central Visayas-wide including Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, have chosen not to partake in this regional transport strike during the upcoming Holiday and New Year's Eve celebrations in the early first weekend of 2024.
(FILE PHOTO COURTESY for REPRESENTATION: Negros News Online)
Romeo Subaldo, a former News Chief of ABS-CBN Bacolod (now Kapamilya Channel: Bacolod) and current Regional Multimedia News Anchor of Favorite Music Radio & Digicast Negros, shared his insights on the matter during the final minutes of his local radio newscast of 'Arangkada Negrosanon Balita' at 6:30am on Monday morning (Bacolod local time). Subaldo emphasized that the jeepney franchises in Western Visayas and Negros Occidental will not participate in the regional strike: "I think sa mga probinsya po na sang Transport Strike sa Metro at Mega Manlia, wala ma gupod ang mga provinces naton… Sa mga taga-Metro at Mega Manila nila ng Transport Strike, kana ka nausang Department of Education (DepEd) kahapon ng Linggo (Nobyembre 19th, 2023) na way klase sa Maynila na may Transport Strike. Pero diri sa aton, padayon na pag-biyahe sa mga di pa-pasaherong mga salakyan", Subaldo said in the exclusive radio interview to OneNETnews via Facebook LIVE video.
In an exclusive phone patch interview, where it was independently verified to OneNETnews as one local transport group in-charge of Bindoy-Mabinay-Bais Transport Cooperative (BIMBATCO) named Rey Alpeche, a representative in-charge of the Bindoy-Mabinay-Bais Transport Cooperative (BIMBATCO) in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, confirmed that they are not part of the nationwide transport strike. Alpeche highlighted the importance of paperwork consolidation and their close monitoring of the cooperatively-owned jeepney units: "So far in Negros Oriental, maliliit lang yung persiyento ang unconsolidated. Sa aming kooperatiba, lahat kami consolidated [ng BIMBATCO] na single indibidual mga sa tingin ko siguro, mga 20 to 30 ganun. Lahat naman na cooperatiba dito is nag ko-consolidate, hindi kami sasali sa transport strike. Ano naman silbi kasi consildated na po kami. I'm meaning to say that, hindi po talaga phase out dere-diretso. Yung ang unconsolidated ng kina-kansela na prankisa nila o franchise", Alpeche said in an online media interview on Friday afternoon (December 29th, 2023).
(CONTRIBUTED FILE PHOTO COURTESY for REPRESENTATION: The Philippine Star)
He emphasized that their cooperative of BIMBATCO is already consolidated and therefore unaffected by the phase-out of older jeepney units in Negros Oriental. While concerns regarding commuting without modernized jeepneys in the future, and the availability of unemployment benefits were raised from the SSS or GSIS (Social Security System or Government Service Insurance System), Alpeche clarified that these issues do not directly impact BIMBATCO and other localized transport groups: "Yung amining nila ng gobyerno is to consolidate. Consolidation is yung mga papeles ng iko-consolidate kasi hindi na po biro na yung gobyerno na for example… Hindi kaya ng LTFRB o Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board na mag-monitor ng indibidual na prangkisa o operators. Kailangan mo i-monitor yung sa kooperatiba kasi, yung sa sinabing cooperative ay mo-monitor ng mga [Jeepney] units", he added.
(FILE PHOTO COURTESY: Google Images)
Loans in Negros Oriental, with the example of government-owned banking 'Landbank' cannot cover all the jeepney vehicle modernization expenses and was yet to be revisted in the Q1 of 2024 or later. Nonetheless, BIMBATCO needs to reassess areas for modernization based on its passenger volumes: "Kailangang po talaga e-revisit mo na yung [sinabing probinsya] ng Negros Oriental kasi, sa amin ngayon may modernized jeepney galing isa, taas namin kinuha yun. Ang problema, hindi talaga kaya ang umo-utang ta sa banko. Pag umo-utang pa ron, siguradong hindi na ka mababayad. Sa Negros Oriental ang problema kasi, wala po tayo mga masyadong volume ng pasahero o passengers. So, kailangan po naming na e-revisit muna yung every area na kailangan na modernisasyon".
Alpeche suggested that if drivers were to become unemployed and experience a decrease in income for commuting purposes, they would need to be re-hired, despite of the upcoming nationwide transport strike including Negros Oriental. He expressed the drivers' resistance to the boundary system and emphasized that drivers earn more than the operators themselves: "Meron nang dahan-dahan na tayong phase-out, yung mga driver din yun is ire-hire din. Saan pong kami kukuha ang driver sa kanila rin? Kasi ayaw ng mga drivers na itong nangyari. Ayaw kasi ng mga drivers is boundaring system yun ng mga drivers. Mas malaki pa yung kita kaysa sa operator".
The consolidation process for BIMBATCO began in 2018 or 2019 and was soon to expire by 2024, as early as 6 years before the December 31st, 2024 deadline on Sunday. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr. stated that there would be no extensions for the nationwide and regional jeepney phase-out for the unconsolidated individuals, urging sincerity from the government. He also pointed out the lack of communication with the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Negros Oriental: "Dapat unahin natin yung LTFRB, we do talk with the cooperatives na kabisado yung ruta. Kasi, kami ang nakakaalam so ruta kung pwede bang dagdagan, pwede bang tanggalan ng [Jeepney] units at i-modernize. Kasi, kami yung apektado at kami yung may alam pero, pag wala namang threat nandito sa Negros Oriental sa ngayon, hindi nai-tolerate yan. We don't talk to the government. At saka, pag wala pang consolidation po sa kanila ng ilang taon na palaging ine-extend, paano naman kami which is so unfair for us na hindi na ko-consolidate as early as 2018 o 2019, na palagi sinabing ine-extend. Pag ayaw talaga ang consolidasyon, ayaw na din talaga ng extensyon". Alpeche expressed frustration with the extension of consolidation deadlines and the unfair treatment of cooperatives that have already consolidated to them. Alpeche expressed frustration with the extension of consolidation deadlines and the unfair treatment of cooperatives that had already consolidated.
(FILE PHOTO COURTESY: Bayan Negros)
Fortunately in conclusion… Western and Central Visayas, including Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, are not participating in the regional transport strike. BIMBATCO has ensured the necessary paperwork and franchises to secure the continued operation of their regional vehicle franchises without any revocations or phasing out in the new year by January 1st, 2024.
The transportation crisis in Metro and Mega Manila is a significant concern for MANIBELA and PISTON. Drivers are pushing for the modernization of new jeepney vehicles under the Public Utility Jeepney & Public Utility Vehicle - Modernization Programme (PUJ/PUV-MP) as a last resort to preserve the driving culture associated with older jeepneys. However, individual Filipino drivers cannot afford this potential upgrade.
OneNETnews has learned that Negros Oriental will no longer participate in the local transport strike for now, as confirmed by Alpeche of BIMBATCO. They have sought legal assistance to ensure proper registration and consolidation by the Land Transportion Office (LTO) and LTFRB, allowing them to operate safely and normally in Central Visayas.
A big SPECIAL THANKS to Neil Ceriño Rio of DYGB-FM 91.7 MHz's Power91FM and Fil News Balita: Cable TV 6 in Dumaguete City for their assistance in contacting BIMBATCO and facilitating our phone patch interview and local news report. Also, you can listen a full phone patched interview provided below the source links. Thank you!

hi! co-signing the above. i'm not a kansas native but i lived in the south for many years previously, and i've lived in kansas for over a year now. it drives me nuts when people say kansas is a southern accent when they don't even sound alike.
there ARE kansas accents, but notably, only the people from smaller towns, and especially the central kansas and western kansas towns, tend to have them. but they're in short supply the last few generations, because by now the vast majority of kansans live in bigger cities on the easternmost sliver of the state. think topeka, lawrence, manhattan, and the kansas side of kansas city.
ma and pa would likely have slight accents, but as OP said, kon definitely wouldn't have one since he didn't spend his formative years in kansas. clark might have one since he did grow up in a small farming community, but... his profession is journalism. most journalists intentionally lose their accent, at least while being recorded, so that they will be as clear and precise to as many people as possible.
anyway. all this to say, if you want a reference, here's an example of a kansas accent from this small town ad (3.5K population). i've driven thru a few times and met a few people from there that generally had this accent. the men in the video are better examples, as one of the main women speaking says she's from elsewhere and i'm not 100% sure where, but the guy voices are a solid example. anyway a lot of kansans from small towns generally have a similar accent to this.
if you ever wanna know what people sound like from an area, i do recommend just finding a local small town ad, as many small towns are trying to stay alive and get people to move there.
okay, say it with me: kansas. is not. in the south. kansas. is in. the midwest. neither clark. nor kon. would have. a southern accent.
(and furthermore!!!!!!! kon probably would not pick up a full on accent from living in smallvile considering the fact he was *born* in metropolis, and before and after his stint in hawaii, spent a lot of time there. coming from someone who has moved around a lot, i may say a few words in a certain way, but i sound like where i came from mostly. like c’mon)
#also i am begging you guys to be normal about rural accents in general#knowing that most small towns have serious poverty... and that small towns tend to keep their accents more than cities.............#ask yourself: knowing the correlation between accents and poverty... are you just using an accent to make fun of poor people?#if so: stop it. get some help#anyway im just asking yall to choose not to type out your approximation of this accent. or any accent really.#typing out accents almost always comes across as making fun of them#id recommend instead (if you want to emphasize an accent) finding softer descriptors#like calling a minessota accent 'rounded at the os' or a new york accent sharp and fast#ive noticed a lot of kansans tend to murmur or talk softer than most places ive been to. and a bit flatter all together.#maybe fewer and more drawn out at the vowels too?#when in doubt of how to describe an an accent respectfully: you dont have to describe it at all. just say they have one#anyway! thank u op i love u op

so my new weird obsession is making up this couple who for 10 years travel around the world, living 1 year in each country, and travel through that country etc. They work for a travel magazine / blog so they pay their expenses. I basically then record what they do month to month, like where they go etc. It's very cool cause I get to learn a ton about these places I wouldn't have known otherwise! Also, I'm making all of this based on my alternative world map I talked about in a previous post (i've searched it up but i couldn't find it :( ), so the countries are slightly different. I just finished their first year, where they stayed in the United Baltic States (our Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania combined), and I wanted to let you know a bit about what I do!
So, first of all, the couple is conformed by Leo Butler, an Australian from Dampier (WA) and Marina de la Cruz, from the Federated States of Central America, precisely she's from La Chorrera (PA). They met in The University of Notre Dame Australia, in Sidney, where they fell in love and decided to go through this adventure together. After 10 years, they'll decide to settle in one of the countries they've been living and have kids and all :)
I'm not gonna write here like all they did in the year they lived in the United Baltic States, but here's a snippet of what they did in a random month (april) so you can see what i do and stuff:
April 11-13th: They go hitchhiking 479 km (Riga - Minsk)
They leave their house at 8 a.m. April 11th, they catch a truck at 9:45 h.
Riga - Grenctale, 2 hours 30 minutes, 88 km. They arrive at 12:15 hours. They eat lunch at Pit Stop, Kafejnica. They catch a truck at 16:55 hours.
Grenctale - Vilnius, 3 hours, 206 km. They arrive at 19:55 hours. They have dinner at Valdovu Sodas and they visit the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania before sleeping in the Artagonist (83€) hotel. They catch a car at 10 a.m. on April 12th.
Vilnius - Border with Western Russia in Medininkai, 40 minutes, 35 km. They arrive at 10:40 hours. They visit the Castle of Medininkai and have lunch at the driver's house. They cross the border at 12:30 hours and catch a car at 13:00 hours.
Medininkai - Zabrez'ye, 1 hour, 75 km. They arrive at 14:00 hours. They catch a car at 16:30 hours.
Zabrez'ye - Minsk, 1 hour 10 minutes, 87 km. They arrive at 17:40 hours. They have dinner at Kin Sushi, they walk through the old town, go to the Opera Casino, and sleep in the Beijing Hotel (79€).
They catch the plane back to Riga at 9 a.m. on April 13th, they arrive at 10 a.m.
April 17th: They visit the Etnographic Open Air Museum of Latvia in Riga.
April 24th: They spend the day in the Langstinu Ezers, a lake near Riga.
Also here's the recap I did at the end!
City of residence: Riga (6 months), Tallinn (3 months), Vilnius (3 months)
Places visited:
United Baltic States: Riga, Tallinn (3 times), Vilnius (4 times), Parnü, Medininkai, Šiauliai, Trakai, Paneriai, Jelgava, Joniškis, Bauska, Alytus

I had a quick question: I'm wondering what is the difference between the Kontusz Sash polish nobility wore and the sashes you see in some traditional folk costumes, like from the Chełm region. Is there a specific name for the folk sash and where might I find more information about them? Also thank you for your blog, you're an amazing reference and a great help!
Hello! Firstly, sorry for my response coming late. I was very busy recently, but trying to catch up with the responses!Quick answer? Materials and patterns!Sashes of the nobility were really high in quality, woven from thin strands of silk and other expensive threads. They often had golden or silver strands incorporated into the motifs, and they were produced in certain manufactures by artisans, very often Armenian. The motifs woven on the sashes were sometimes coming from decorations from high-end western fashion. The Żywiec sashes are meant to resemble the historical kontusz sashes.

Dear syofwren
This is coming from another South-East Asian to another South-East Asian. I wish for you to listen to us too. At the very least, as fellow South-East Asian, or Asian for that matter.
TW: Syscourse, debate, and lots and lots of swear word... maybe.
Tulpamancy has no origin in the South-East Asia. Tibet is not in the South-East. Please do not spread this misinformation, at the very least look at a fucking map.
Alright, some keys: Red circle is South-East AsiaBlue circle is South AsiaOrange circle is Central AsiaGreen is East Asia Blue X is where Tibet should be located
And you can see where I am on that blue dot
You can argue with me how the line actually should be but this is my interpretation and it's closer to how it is in your Atlas/Map.
I'm very curious where do you actually reside? I wouldn't go further if you are actually Tibetan or around that area. Otherwise, this feels like bad faith, kinda like that carrd that was kinda popular few ages back.
I cannot believe I need to go through this again, but Khist needed me to do this so... here it is.
Khist herself did an amazing breakdown over on the Twitter space which you can check here.
You can also read up about the origin of (modern) Tulpamancy/Parogenic here!
And another breakdown by a friend here! Oh and here~!
As a plural (Tulpamancy/Parogenic) system that is from Indonesia, we're kinda tired at this nonsense. How people admit to be from the South-East but really don't know how the fuck South-East Asian work.
I personally won't go far to talk about Buddhism and Hinduism in the South-East, specifically Indonesia, since it's like 12 AM where I am.
But essentially, if you read someone who says they're from the SEA (South-East Asia) and say Tulpamancy is appropriation of the SE, they're bullshitting.
Tibet is nowhere close to the Indian Ocean or the South China Sea. It's inland, surrounded by mountains.
And the wordings are totally different from Tibetan that uses Sprul-Pa, Nirmanakaya, and Tulku to describe their version of Tulpamancy with Modern/Western Tulpamancy (or Parogenic).
And to whoever got eaten up by this fucking lies need to read more books. Your white teen ass is fucking showing.
The reason why I’m strictly anti-tulpa:
It hurts me. It hurts me as an SE Asian individual, to see something that I grew up in, and that we learned to cherish and enjoy, turn into something thats “paranormal” or “fun” for people who were never raised or lived with the culture and religion.
It hurt to see my culture be used in a television show (Supernatural) and to be used for entertainment. The way they used our religion and culture and turned it into “tulpa gone murderous” is so sad.
I know, a lot of pro-tulpas do not listen to us. I’ve gotten in countless arguments when I simply stated, the bare minimum, to use a different word. Anything besides tulpa, sprul-pa, etc.
A lot of the time, I see non-SE Asian folks use the word tulpa when it has originated from the Tibetan practice. By now, tulpa is a very outdated word to use for what they’re experiencing.
From the research I’ve done, Paromancy is a word I’ve seen being used in place of tulpamancy.
Yes, I know that tulpamancy isn’t just a rip off of Tibetan Buddhism, but, whilst it still being inspired by, still makes me very uncomfortable.
NOTE: This is NOT an excuse for pro-tulpas to interact with this post and me. My DNI still stands even if I talk about the subject.

I'm also from PA, but originally the central part and only ever heard about the Pitt-Philly rivalry. Even when I lived in western out in Butler co. I never heard jack about Union City OR Altoona. (Although we did have the same joke about Adams co. growing up in York that yall had about Union City apparently.)
And idk, but having spent considerable time growing up in Jersey, no one trashes Camden anymore? In South Jersey anyway everyone hates AC. Or Newark.
I currently live in Oregon, and no one talks about Gresham like at all. We hate on Eugene. Or Portland depending on your view about the value of human life and the taste of boots.
So idk. Redditors aren't a representative sample is i guess the moral of the story.
