Shadow - G Dragon/Kwon Ji-yong
Pairing: older sibling!GD x younger sibling!fem!reader Summary: growing up, jiyong always felt that he was just your shadow; the insignificant sibling. now that he's a global star, he never fails to remind you that you're now his shadow. WC: 2253
Ever since 11-year old Jiyong found out that his mother was pregnant, he knew he'd resent you for the rest of his life. He was used to being the baby of the family and he loved it. He basked in the attention of his elders, even though his cheeks hurt from all the pinching. He adored being adored.
His disappointment became more obvious when everyone found out that his parents were having a girl. Everyone was ecstatic, except for Jiyong. Instead, he locked himself in his room and listened to his favorite music to drown out everyone's joy. You weren't even born yet and you were already loved and he hated it.
He was 12 years old when you were born and the second he glanced at you, he made a face of disgust. "That's her? She looks like a naked mole rat." Jiyong snickered before leaving the hospital room.
No one paid him any mind because they knew it was hard for him. After all, he'd been the baby of the family for eleven years. They knew that one day, he'd accept you.
They were wrong.
Annual family reunions were a tradition in your family and Jiyong looked forward to it every year. He'd show his cousins new stuff he got, he'd let them listen to new music he discovered, he'd dance in front of the whole family and he'd get praised, and he'd bask in it every time.
Ever since you were born, that changed. No one asked about him anymore. It was like he was pushed to the side. He felt like a benchwarmer and it angered him. He had to remind himself to work harder in becoming an idol if he wanted to get out of your shadow.
When Jiyong debuted with BigBang, you were 6 years old. You adored him very much. Before he debuted, you would always see him dancing and writing songs. You would always stand outside his room and open the door a little just to catch a glimpse of him. To you, he was a hero. To him, you were a nuisance. After every impromptu dance in his room, you'd always clap. He'd turn around with a scowl on his face and he'd always say, "Get out, mole rat! Can't you see I'm busy?! Go bother mom or something." Then he'd lock the door.
Every time you came home from school, you'd immediately run to him and show him the pictures you drew and you'd tell him about your day. To you, he was your best friend. You'd follow him around the house while he'd do everything to get away from you. He never reciprocated, though. You didn't care. You were just so happy to see him and you were just happy to hang out with your cool older brother.
You were so happy seeing your older brother on tv. It was the highlight of your day and you always bragged about him to your classmates. You'd show them family pictures and you'd always present his photo for every show and tell. Your classmates thought you were insufferable, but they never said anything.
As both of you grew older, he'd become harsher towards you. At that point, he was a young adult and you were just a teen, trying to figure things out. Like Jiyong, you wanted to be an idol too. Ever since he found out, his words became daggers.
"Stop looking like a mole rat if you want to be an idol. You won't get signed anywhere."
"Nice outfit, but you don't have the face for it."
"If I were you, I'd stop trying."
"You'd be such an annoying idol."
"You're wasting your time trying to be someone you're clearly not."
"You can never be as great as me. I'm G Dragon, bitch. Who's gonna remember someone who's as insignificant as you? You're just my shadow."
His jabs were very hurtful, but you used them all as motivation to do better and you really did improve. Soon, you debuted as a solo artist. Since your brother's a force to be reckoned with in the industry, he made sure that no one knew you were related. He also made sure to stay away from you. The night you debuted, he said, "I'm not your brother and you're not my sister. We're not related. Stay out of my way and I'll stay out of yours."
Since then, you haven't interacted as artists. If you went home for the holidays, he'd either arrive a week early or a week after you. You couldn't even post family pictures because he was in it.
Being an idol has its ups and downs. You were known as the party girl. You'd party every chance you got. You'd get blackout drunk. Many of your idol friends would describe you as a party animal. In fact, embarrassing pictures of a drunk version of you is all over the internet. As if that wasn't enough, you were also known to hop from one relationship to another. Every time it gets serious, you just leave.
You were a great artist, but you have a reputation of being messed up. Of course, all of this reached Jiyong. The next time you saw each other, he said, "I knew you were an embarrassment even before you were born. I'm glad I don't associate with you."
-
You felt your life falling apart. Admittedly, you were so depressed because of your brother. You only wanted him to like you. You didn't even know what you did for him to hate you so much. As if that wasn't enough, somehow, everyone found out that you and THE G Dragon were siblings. When you saw it, panic immediately consumed you. You didn't know what to do. You knew Jiyong well enough to know that he'd think it was your fault.
On his end, he threw his phone across the room. Instead of getting asked about his current album, he'd get asked about you instead and he didn't like it already. He got up from his bed and picked up his phone and called you.
"He-"
"Shut the fuck up right now." He seethed. "How could you do this to me?! You knew I just came back with an album and then you pull this shit?! Attention seeker much? If you're so thirsty for attention, go to a bar and get so wasted that your topless photos go viral again. That's what you're good at, right? Stick with it."
"I didn't leak anything, I swear! You know I would never do anything to sabotage you. You're my brother, Ji." You choked out, hot tears streaming down your face. "I didn't do or say anything. I promise I didn't."
"Bullshit." He scoffed. "Just say that you're jealous of me."
"Why would I be jealous of you? You know I support you all the way. Your success is yours and my success is mine. We're different artists." You stammered.
"You're jealous because after all those years of you getting everyone's attention, you're not used to being ignored. You're not used to not being loved. Go back to the bars and clubs. Go back to drinking and getting blackout drunk. Go back to messing up your career and image. Go back to being wild and crazy. You're never going to change, Y/N. Stay in your lane and stick to what you know best. Fix this." He hung up.
You cried and stayed in bed for hours until your manager had to help you get up. She knew you weren't fine, but she didn't push you to tell her anything. She was an angel.
"Y/N..." She said softly. "Y/N, you have a concert in LA next month. Are you sure you're okay doing this?"
You nodded, "Can we leave for LA earlier? I really don't want to be here right now."
Of course Jiyong found out that you left the country instead of fixing the "mess you left". He thought, if you weren't going to say anything, then he wasn't going to say anything. To his surprise, everyone seemed to easily accept the fact that you were siblings. Everyday, he kept seeing comments on his Instagram post about being similar.
"how didn't we all see their similarities?! they literally have the same face shape, same nose, and same smile!!"
"can't believe the kwon siblings are wild in their own right (in a fun way) bc y/n's a wild party girl and... we all heard jiyong's album"
"i remember that one interview of y/n where she said her biggest inspiration is gd and all of us thought it's nothing new bc gd is literally the idol of idols and with this new info, we can all say that it's really sweet of her to say that her biggest inspo is gd and it also makes sense bc that's her brother!!"
"in some angles, they look like twins! 🥹"
He didn't know what it was, but he suddenly had the urge to search you up on Google. Yes, as much as he hated it, you were related. However, he didn't know anything about you. He never bothered to. Now that everyone knows, he figured to at least find out who you are as an artist.
He watched every single interview you were in and he found out a lot of things about you. He even called your mom to confirm if the things you said were true. He lightly chuckled whenever you'd say a witty comeback and his heart warmed when you showed an old picture of you and him. His face was covered with a small piece of paper and you were smiling widely. His heart ached when you told the interviewer why it was your favorite childhood photo.
"It's my favorite photo because captured my relationship with my brother perfectly. I'd remove the piece of paper, but... I don't want to compromise his safety and privacy." You said softly with a sad smile. "My brother's older than me and I really look up to him. He's so cool. I just wanted to be as cool as him and I know I can never be that cool. I would always watch him dance and I remember how mesmerized I was."
Jiyong didn't know how to feel. He watched a few more videos and he learned that you kept tabs on him. He scrolled through your Instagram and he saw that you keep using his music whenever you'd post pictures. You were his biggest fan.
Meanwhile, you were preparing for your concert in LA. You decided to switch up your setlist and your manager approved. As a little treat to your American fans, you were going to do a cover of Miley Cyrus' song, 'Used to be Young'. You were really feeling that song at the moment and you had a little self-reflection: if Jiyong still didn't like you, it's time to take another road and just ignore him.
Towards the end of your concert, you decided to do the surprise song. "I have a little treat for you, guys. I have a surprise cover song!" You enthusiastically said and they screamed again. "I'm so obsessed with this song, I swear." You smiled and the intro played.
"~The truth is bulletproof, there's no foolin' you, I don't dress the same. Me and who you say I was yesterday have gone our separate ways. Left my livin' fast somewhere in the past 'cause that's for chasin' cars. Turns out open bars lead to broken hearts and goin' way too far.~" You sang beautifully as a slideshow of your old pictures played on the screen behind you. It was all your pictures from your most embarrassing point in life, but you didn't regret a single thing about it.
The song made you emotional, but you just kept singing. Your fans sang along too and it made you smile hearing them sing along. You knew this cover is being filmed to be posted on your YouTube channel, so you looked directly at the camera as you sang the last chorus.
"~I know I used to be crazy; messed up, but god, was it fun. I know I used to be wild that's 'cause I used to be young. Those wasted night are not wasted, I remember every one. I know I used to be crazy that's 'cause I used to be young. You tell me has done changed me, that's fine, I had a good run. I know I used to be crazy that's 'cause I used to be young.~" Tears streamed down your face when you finished the song.
Your cover instantly went viral after you posted it on YouTube and Jiyong watched the whole thing and he saw how emotional you were and how the song related to your relationship. Flashbacks of his hurtful words suddenly haunted him and all of a sudden, he wasn't watching his 20-something year old sister. He was watching 6-year old you; the one he would kick out of his room because you were watching him dance. He was watching 6-year old you; the one who'd show him pictures you drew with cheap crayons. Somehow, that made him emotional.
He watched as you sang the last chorus. He felt as if you were looking straight at him; like it was a direct message from you to him. When the song was over, he was crying. He didn't know what was happening, but he was sure of one thing: something shifted.

I saw a post on Instagram, well before the Superbowl, that involved Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar's positions in the music industry. Furthermore, it was said that their activism was biased, since they profited a lot from these statements (or manifestos).
I'm a big fan of Beyoncé; even though I'm not 100% into the world of rap, Kendrick is one of my favourites. Maybe what I reflect here comes a little from an opinion built based on my personal taste, but I understand that beyond whether we like their music or not, they have an impact, and that's what I wanted to say.
Two things happened in these two weeks: Beyoncé won the first AOTY of her career with Cowboy Carter and Kendrick Lamar performed at the Superbowl. Let's start with Beyoncé.
Beyoncé has had COUNTLESS valid AOTY albums (ESPECIALLY Lemonade, sorry Adele), and she is the BIGGEST Grammy WINNER IN HISTORY. Like it or hate it, she is THE INDUSTRY. She made it. And she deserves it.
I saw people saying that she didn't deserve it because Billie Eilish deserved more. This always happens, but when people justify this discontent, you hear things like 'lyricism' or 'impact on the charts', which are valid arguments, but when we're talking about Album of the Year, shouldn't we also think about the social impact that this work has? Guys, I loved Billie's album, but it wasn't AOTY material with Cowboy Carter on the way.
CMAs
In 2016, in the midst of promoting Lemonade, she performed with the Dixies at the CMAs. Do you know what happened? In addition to her being boycotted (with her performance excluded from the awards platforms), SEVERAL country artists were visibly uncomfortable with her presence there, singing an AUTHORAL country song, with the, so to speak, 'personas non gratas' of the country industry.
This influenced the acts she is currently doing. Beyoncé, with all the influence she has, could come with the speech of white people who deny the existence of racism or opine on how black people should react to racism with indifference, but she decided to show how people of color have been carrying entertainment and art on their shoulders, and how the boycott at the CMAs only reinforced that 'veiled' r*cist artists were bothered by people of color who claim authorship of their own culture; then, they are a threat.
She made a country album. In references, Linda Martell, Chuck Berry, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and, among other people, black country artists who are new to the scene. Do you know the social impact of this? Do you understand that, no matter how many years pass, Beyoncé will also be remembered for using her influence to raise an issue that she might otherwise have been indifferent about (because she has money, success and people love her), and winning a Grammy for a mostly white and biased genre?
I think my point is clear. I love Billie and I think she's a great artist, but in the current context, in the middle of 2025, there was someone putting uncomfortable things in the light, and that person was Beyoncé.
Now, let's go over Kendrick.
2024 was a year in which he was on the top, among other things, for his beef with Drake. Look, I'm not even going to get into the merits of the diss, I never liked Drake (Brazilians in particular have some problems with him) and I've always really admired Kendrick as an artist, so I don't especially want to talk about how he just massacred Drake's reputation and career: everyone knows that.
Again, he could focus the entire intention of that Superbowl on the fight, and gain more prominence beyond the Grammys he won in relation to it. He did that too. Heavens, it was divine. But he (and his team) looked at the guest list in the VIP area, and focused on the type of person on one of the teams competing in that championship (I don't know a thing about that sport, but imagine my lack of surprise when I discovered the character of certain… names from that institution), and said "we should address that".
Some of the biggest, most talented and successful black artists in the US was there. With what justification, full of discrimination, can people on the other side turn around and say that Kendrick is irrelevant? Or that Samuel L. Jackson isn't important? Or that, fuck, Serena Williams isn't just badass? Of course her presence at the performance had more to do with Drake, but she was there, and she embraced the message.
Kendrick looked at the face of the country, at the largest audience in America, and said: why don't you all go fuck yourselves while I rub it in your face that we made this happen? I don't use middle ground when it comes to this, and we know that fire is met with fire.
What do I mean by all this?
Distractions from our culture are welcome and help us keep going, but this is a time of revolution, and this time the right people have the right platforms. At a time of uncertainty, explicit discrimination and the rebirth of a very specific movement, having powerful voices that enhance the people's speeches is more than a nod to the struggles of the lower classes, but a poke at the higher classes.
It's about shouting out what's wrong. It's about saying 'you're an idiot who thinks you're going to win'. It's about saying that you don't hit someone thinking that they won't hit you back. It's about reinforcing how dumb, insignificant and politically limited they are, who rely on conspiracy theories versus a community that has facts and history on its side.
But more than that, we are clearly reinforced that, regardless of anything, they cannot win.
And if you still have any doubts:

Unseen Hearts
Fandom: Stray Kids
Pairing: Felix x Male Reader
Word Count: 4652
Summary: Y/N is a young actor and singer on the rise who has great admiration for Stray Kids, especially a certain member with a huskier voice.
p.s. this is the first time I write about kpop on this blog, I hope you like it! In fact, I was extremely inspired because I've never written so much! and another thing: I mention a Korean ideogram in the story, I tried to do my research but my Korean is terrible, forgive any mistakes. and always remembering REQUESTS ARE OPEN, in the pinned there are the fandons for which I write
You never thought you would be in a serious relationship with a K-pop artist. Of course, you've been a fan of Korean culture since you were 13 and a friend introduced you to the concept of K-pop, dramas and all the rest.
You were lucky enough to have well-off parents who let you study Korean from the age of 13 because you had become completely obsessed with everything about Korea.
But obviously your life didn't revolve around just that, of course you went to shows whenever you could, once you even got a trip to South Korea as a gift to go to a fan meeting.
But one thing that the idol life showed you was that you also wanted to be an artist, you were in doubt between acting and music. After all, you were good at both. In school plays you always got the lead.
Your mother played the piano and from a very early age taught you everything she knew about music, so one of your hobbies, and also a form of therapy, was writing songs.
When you were 18, a family friend who worked for Netflix knew he had a casting call that was a perfect fit for you. You took the test, with zero faith that you would pass.
But it ended up happening, the series was about a fantasy world, four wizard friends fighting an evil entity, you had a lot of fun recording the first season, you made incredible friends, but you never thought the series would be successful.
Until it exploded. And it became the number 1 series on Netflix, with everyone talking about it. And obviously you and your co-stars started doing press tours.
Jimmy Fallon Show
- Hey guys! Welcome back to the Tonight Show! Today we have a very special guest, a talented young man who is having great success with the new Netflix series: Witchbound Chronicles. Let's welcome the amazing Y/N! How are you, Y/N?
- Hi Jimmy! I'm great, thanks for having me here.
- It's a pleasure to have you. Firstly, congratulations on the success of your series! What has the experience been like seeing your face everywhere?
- It's surreal, Jimmy. I never imagined things would happen so quickly. I'm just enjoying every moment.
- This is amazing! Tell us a little about the series. What can fans expect?
- Well, the series is called "Witchbound Chronicles" and it takes place in a completely new world full of magic, fantastic creatures and lots of exciting twists. I play one of the main characters, a young man named Ethan, who discovers he has incredible magical abilities.
- This looks amazing! And what was the audition process like to get the role?
- It was a little crazy, actually. I auditioned without much expectation, and when I got the call that I had gotten the role, I couldn't believe it. It was a dream come true.
- And what was it like working with the cast and crew?
- Everyone was incredible. The cast is very talented, and the team behind the cameras did an incredible job bringing this magical world to life. I learned a lot from all of them.
- I'm sure fans would love to know if there are any funny or interesting behind-the-scenes stories you can share.
- Oh, definitely! One day, we were filming a scene with intense special effects, and one of the animatronics that plays the magical creatures ended up going out of control. It was hilarious to see everyone running for cover, but in the end, everything worked out, and the scene was incredible.
- And what can we expect from the future, Y/N? More projects on the small screen or maybe even the big screen?
- Absolutely, Jimmy! I love acting, and I hope to continue exploring different roles and challenges. Who knows what the future holds, right?
- Hey Y/N, our research team made some interesting discoveries on your social media. It seems like you're a big K-pop fan, is that right?
- Oh yes, Jimmy! I'm completely obsessed with K-pop, it's one of my passions.
- This is amazing! Any specific groups or artists that you really admire?
- For sure! I'm a big fan of Stray Kids.
- Oh, and our team also noticed that you have a certain “bias” as they say in K-pop at Felix! You've been expressing your crush on Felix a lot on social media. Any funny stories or embarrassing moments related to this?
- Well, now that you mention that this is public I would say that all my posts about Felix are kind of funny and embarrassing, actually. I try to keep it light and humorous, but of course, my friends always tease me a little about it.
- That is great! And if Felix or any of the Stray Kids were watching right now, what would you say to them?
- Wow, that's a tough question. I guess I would say how much they mean to me as an artist and as a person. Their work really inspires me, and I really admire their talent.
- I hope Felix sees this and who knows, maybe you can meet one day!
Some time later, on a live that Felix was doing, a fan asked if he had seen this interview.
Chat: Felix, did you see Jimmy Fallon's interview with Y/N, the actor from the series "Witchbound Chronicles"?
- Oh yeah! I saw! It was amazing. I couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire interview.
Chat: Y/N mentioned that he's a big fan of Stray Kids and that he has a crush on you. What was your reaction when you watched this?
- Oh, really? This is so cool! I was very flattered to learn that he is a Stray Kids fan. I think it's an honor when talented people like our work.
Chat: Would you have a message to send to Y/N?
For sure! Y/N, if you're watching, thank you so much for your support! It's amazing to know that you enjoy our work, and who knows, maybe one day we can meet. Keep being amazing!
Chat: It would be great to see a collaboration between Stray Kids and the series' soundtrack, wouldn't it?
- Absolutely! We would love it! Who knows what the future holds for us, right? Let's hope something like this happens.
Meanwhile at your house
- Y/N did you watch Felix's last live? - Your sister came running to ask you.
- No, I saw the notification but I was busy so I couldn't watch it.
- You NEED to see this excerpt!
Your sister takes the phone to you with a cut from the live stream where Felix Yongbok Lee is simply talking about you, and of course you completely freak out!
- MY GOD! FELIX KNOWS I EXIST!
- Imagine if you could meet him in person?
You stop and reflect for a second
- What is it? - Your sister asks.
- My Twitter account simply has 1001 posts about how handsome and hot I think he is! I need to deprive that now!
- Wow, but it's great that he knows you have a crush on him!
- He already knows because of that stupid interview, I don't need to be embarrassed anymore! - You run out to get your cell phone.
A while later on a gossip page
“Recently Y/N S/N deprived his Twitter account and opened a new one saying that it would be his professional account. Does the young actor have something to hide?”
/-/
Months later, with the end of recording the first season of the series, and the end of the press conferences, you feel that it is time to return to music. You had loved that whole period of recording and promoting the series but you felt the urge to write about it all, to put it all in the form of music, and deep in your heart, you wanted to write about something, something that you thought was really silly. actually, but your mother always told you that music was made to express all your feelings.
Unseen Hearts
🎶 Unseen hearts, a world apart,
In the shadows, you're the spark.
A crush so sweet, yet out of reach,
Dreams we chase, lessons we teach. 🎶
- This song is AMAZING! - A music producer friend of your mother said when he heard it.
- Did you really think so? I think it's no big deal.
- Is beautiful! What was the inspiration?
- Ah, silly thing, you know... stupid youthful passion - You said with a bit of shame.
- Y/N, I know you've been wanting to combine acting and music for so long, Bobby can give you that opportunity. – Your mother said
- You have so much potential Y/N. - Said Bobby, the producer and owner of the record company you were now part of.
- Now, ideas for a music video?
The Unseen Hearts video was a success, number 1 in views on YouTube. The clip takes place in a magical setting, reminiscent of the world of the series that you are part of. Include enchanted forests, ancient ruins and mystical locations, having a sense of magic and mystery. The story of the music video centers on you, showing your magical journey in search of your unreachable crush. Throughout the clip you searche for a masked figure who wears a necklace with the Korean character: 리

- Hey guys! We're here with the talented Y/N, who recently released the amazing music video "Unseen Hearts." Y/N, first, I want to say that the music video is amazing, but everyone is wondering: what is the meaning behind it?
- Hi Kelly! First of all, thank you for the compliment. You know, "Unseen Hearts" is a magical journey, an exploration of emotions and personal challenges. I wanted to convey the idea of pursuing something that seems unattainable, but at the same time, it is an experience of self-discovery.
- Oh, this is fascinating! And many fans are curious about the character that appears in the clip. Can you tell us more about this?
- Of course, Kelly. The ideogram is an artistic representation, a kind of personal symbol. It's a way to add a layer of mystery to the story, allowing each person to find their own meaning in the song and video.
- I get it, I love this enigmatic approach! And what would you say to fans speculating about the music video?
- Well, it's amazing to see the enthusiasm of the fans and the different interpretations they are creating. The beauty of art is in its subjectivity, right? I love seeing the theories and stories that people are coming up with. It's a gift to see how music resonates in unique ways for everyone.
//
Live from Felix a few days later
Chat: Hi, Felix! Did you see Y/N's new video, "Unseen Hearts"? What did you think?
- Oh, sure! I watched it, and I have to say Y/N did an amazing job. The magical atmosphere, the emotional narrative, everything was very well done. I really liked.
Chat: And the music? Do you think it has some connection with you? After all, the character with your name appears in the clip!
- Well, it's interesting, right? I think art is interpretive, and each person can have their own vision. If music is an artistic expression, it's hard to say exactly what it means to Y/N. But I loved seeing how fans are creating their own theories and stories around it.
Chat: We are really curious! Do you think Y/N might have been inspired by you for the song?
- You know, Y/N is an incredible artist, and I'm just one of the many artists who can inspire him. I think the beauty of music is its ability to connect with different experiences and emotions. If Y/N found inspiration in something we experienced, it's an honor.
Chat: Hey Felix, we know Y/N mentioned he's a Stray Kids fan. Do you think he could have a crush on you?
- Oh, really? That's kind of funny to think about. I think it's always flattering to know that people admire our work, whether as artists or as people. And well, I don't really know about that. I'm grateful for the fans' support and affection, but personal relationships are something private, right? Let's focus on the music and Y/N's work, which is incredible.
Chat: We're just kidding, Felix! But seriously, what was it like for you to see your character in his video?
It was a pleasant surprise, for sure! Y/N is a talented artist, and it was cool to see that special touch in the video. I think he did a wonderful job of creating something unique and meaningful.
//
A few weeks later you are invited to perform at the Billboard Music Awards, it would be your first time performing Unseen Hearts in front of such a large audience, you were nervous obviously, but something made you even more nervous.
- Y/N you have no idea what I discovered! - Bobby, who was now your manager, called you excitedly.
- What was it?
- So I was organizing your participation in this year's BMAs, and you know who will be there, STRAY KIDS! They will also participate
You froze, you had followed the news, given interviews, seen Felix's live and knew that everyone already knew the obvious, you had burst out writing a song about the crush you had on a boy you saw once at a fan meeting.
- Y/N… are you there? - Bobby asked from the other side.
- I'm sorry, I just got a little distracted.
- I thought you would be more excited.
- Yes, I'm excited, of course, it's going to be really cool - You said a little disconcerted.
- Now are you ready for the big news?
- My God, is there more?
- It has! So the organization was talking to me, and they asked me if you would be willing to sit at the same table as them, you know, you speak Korean, so you can help the members who don't speak it to fit in.
- BOBBY WHAT DID YOU ANSWER?
- I confirmed your place with them of course, I thought you would love it!
- ARE YOU TELLING ME I'M GOING TO COME FACE TO FACE WITH THE GUY I WROTE A SONG ABOUT?????
- Wait, was the song really about Felix?
- My God Bobby, I thought you were my manager and paid attention to the nuances.
You wanted to pass out obviously.

Billboard Music Awards Day - Red carpet.
- Hi Matt! We are excited to see your performance today. What can we expect from this presentation?
- Hello! I'm looking forward to the night, it's going to be amazing. The performance will be full of energy, with a touch of magic and emotion. I hope everyone enjoys it!
- Good luck! Now, we've heard rumors that you and Stray Kids have a special connection. Any future collaborations on the horizon?
- Well, I'm a big fan of Stray Kids, they're so talented. Who knows what the future holds? I'm always open to surprising collaborations. - You say with a bright smile
- Hmm, intriguing! And regarding the "Unseen Hearts" video, many fans speculate about the inspiration behind it. Any subliminal messages?
- Ah, "Unseen Hearts" is an emotional journey, an exploration of personal feelings and challenges. Fan interpretations are fascinating, and I like to leave the song open to different meanings.
- What about the ideograms? We saw Felix from Stray Kids in the video. Any special meaning? - The interviewer asks with an insinuating smile
- Ideograms are like artistic elements, each one can find its own meaning. Sometimes it's just a way to add a special touch to the visual narrative. - You say, wanting to curse yourself for when you had the brilliant idea of putting one of the ideograms of Felix's name in the music video
Interview with Stray Kids
- And we're here with Stray Kids! You guys are killing it as always. We're curious to know, are there any secret collaborations you have in mind? Maybe something with our dear Y/N, who is also here today?
- Well, you know, we are always open to new musical experiences. Y/N is an amazing artist, so who knows what could happen in the future? - Felix responds.
- Interesting! And speaking of collaborations, we saw Felix's character in Y/N's "Unseen Hearts" video. Any idea what this could mean?
- It seems like Y/N wanted to add a special touch to the video. I don't know if there's a deeper meaning, but it's an honor to be included in his art in some way. - Felix says smiling
- What if we talk about the music itself? Any thoughts on "Unseen Hearts"? - The interviewer says wanting to provoke.
- Of course, we all watched the clip and were impressed. The song has a unique vibe, and Y/N's performance is engaging. It's great to see artists exploring different styles. - Bang Chan responds
- It seems like there are a lot of secrets being kept! Speaking of secrets, do you have any future projects that you haven't revealed yet?
- Well, we never reveal all our secrets, do we? You can expect more surprises in the future. - Hyunjin responds, ending the interview.
//
Later, after the red carpet, you have to face reality and go to your seat next to the members of Stray Kids. You're dying of embarrassment, not only because you meet artists you admire so much, but because you know what the topic of the moment is.
You greet everyone in Korean, trying to be as polite as possible, they are all incredibly kind to you.
When it's time to sit down, it's as if fate hates you, and of course your seat was next to Felix.
- I really enjoyed your series on Netflix. - Felix said trying to start a conversation.
- Serious? Didn't you find it a little too fanciful?
- It's too fanciful, but I like things like that, it's really cool.
- Thank you very much - You said blushing.
He looked incredibly handsome that night, you were trying very hard not to stare.
- I really liked Unseen Hearts too, it's a beautiful song.
- Oh thank you, but it doesn't even compare to your work, I'm still quite an amateur. - You always had this habit of diminishing yourself.
- Hey don't say that, your work is incredible. - He takes a strand of your hair and puts it back. - Your eyes are very E/C
He immediately takes his hand out of your hair and apologizes. There was a slight awkward atmosphere but the touch of his fingers in your hair were still there. “You’re not living a fanfic, focus on reality”, you forced yourself to think.
You didn't want to do it but you had to, you didn't want them to keep bothering the boy because of the damn ideogram in the clip.
- Look at the clip, and the ideogram, I'm sorry they keep disturbing you with this, I saw some of your lives and how embarrassed you were.
- Hey no, I thought it was really cool! Was it really a reference for me?
You look down, well, there was no point in lying anymore, right? At least you would leave with the knowledge that your idol would never see you as anything more
- Yes, it was, but you know we all have crushes on famous people, don't worry, it doesn't mean anything big.
- What a shame - He said looking down
What? - You were shocked.
- I wouldn't mind, you know, if it was a genuine crush.
You didn't have time to respond because Bobby came to call you to say that you needed to get ready for your presentation. You ran away with your heart racing, what did that mean, what did Felix mean?
//

You couldn't believe what had just happened, you had performed Unseen Hearts in front of hundreds of people but it was as if you could only see Felix, you were completely embarrassed by it. How could you be so unprofessional to stare at the boy like that? What would they say about you? What would they say about him?
A knock on the dressing room door makes you stand up. It was the boys from Stray Kids and you quickly rushed to open it.
- Y/N, man, you just killed it on stage! It was amazing! - Bang Chan says hugging you.
You're grateful for the compliment, but a wave of self-consciousness hits you. Did they notice your distraction? Did they notice the prolonged glances in Felix's direction?
- Oh, thanks, Chan! I'm glad you liked it. - You say smiling, trying to hide it.
- Did you see the audience? Everyone was mesmerized. It looks like you worked some real magic up there! - Jeongin says.
Everyone laughs, and you join in the laughter, trying to keep your self-critical thoughts away.
- Y/N, that performance was incredible. You brought such a unique energy to the song. - Felix says with a shy smile.
- And I think our friend here needs to speak to you in private. - Changbin says leading the others to leave the room.
Okay, you thought: now he's going to say that what I did was horrible, that it could cause gossip and horrible repercussions for his career. And so you will have ruined the mere chance of having a friendship with someone you admire.
But his response was very different from what you imagined.
- Yeah… I wanted to ask… if you want to go out with me, do you know after the awards?
The initial perplexity is replaced by a mixture of relief and surprise. You expected the worst, but here Felix is, not mentioning anything about the intense stares, but rather extending an invitation to hang out.
- Wow, of course, I would love to! It would be amazing. - You smile trying to hide your surprise.
Felix seems to relax a little, like he's relieved by his answer.
- Great so! Will be cool. The awards are going to be incredible, but I think after that we can relax a little, what do you think?
- I will love it!
- Excellent! See you after the awards, then. - He says with a dazzling smile
He turns to leave the dressing room, and you stay there, processing the unexpected turn of events. What seemed like a potential uncomfortable situation turned into an invitation to hang out. Perhaps the intense looks were perceived differently by Felix.
Later that night…
"Y/N from 'Unseen Hearts' and Felix from Stray Kids spotted holding hands after the Billboard Music Awards!"
"The beginning of a new ship? Y/N and Felix, moments of romance after the awards."
"Fans are ecstatic over photos of Y/N and Felix together. Could this be the start of a new friendship or something more?"

Heyyy so I just discovered your works recently and I was wondering if you don't mind writing an Ellie with a fem reader who is latina and works as a makeup artist please? I just think the idea doing Ellie's makeup while sitting on her lap being so cute and being on my mind 24/7 currently- no pressure though <3 (Sorry for the awkwardness this is my first time requesting something 😭)
doing ellie's makeup !

sfw, fluff, reader is latina !! (i'm not sure if i did this well bc i'm latina but i didn't want this to fall into stereotypes or smt like that😭😭) alsooo i made a little playlist with songs that i think ellie'd love (argentinian songs, sorry that's all i listen to 💔💔 if you have any recommendations pls tell me !!! and if you don't speak spanish lmk if you liked any of this songs just because i'm curious <3)
ellie's favs !
☆ persiana americana - soda stereo
☆ tus ojos - los cafres
☆ tu geografía - indios
☆ prófugos - soda stereo
☆ 743 - miranda!
☆ ritmo y decepción - miranda!
being a makeup artist means you have to practice all the time. new styles pop up on the internet everyday and you have to catch up on them.
every night, when you're finally home after a long day of work, you'd put all your makeup on the table, sit in front of the mirror, put on some music (specially those songs in spanish that ellie loves) and start letting your imagination flow as you try to create a new and unique makeup style.
hours practicing, you're too concentrated trying to do that graphic eyeliner you've been seeing in all the internet to notice that your girlfriend has already arrived from her work and is on the other side of the door probably getting comfortable after her busy day.
she's in the kitchen having a snack to get her energy back but as soon as ellie hears the music coming from your shared room, she'd drop everything she was doing and open the door to see you just a few inches away from the mirror trying not to mess up your eyeliner.
ellie looks at you for a few seconds and immediately starts "singing" the spanish songs (she's just mumbling but she manages to pronounce some of the words because you've been teaching her spanish since you two met). the way she blows kisses at you from the distance not to ruin your makeup just melts your heart and you blow the kisses back at her.
"can i admire you from here?" ellie definitely loooves sitting on the bed behind you and look at you from the reflection of the mirror. she's with her mouth half open and her eyes follow every move you do, that she even forgets to blink. she's just mesmerized.
you turn around and show her the final result and her face lights up. you close your eyes as she examinates every little detail of your makeup and quickly steals a little peck from your lips resulting into you two giggling and stealing little kisses from each other finally getting the physical contact you craved throughout the day.
"would you..." she mumbles "would you like to practice with me?" her eyes locked with yours and her cheeks turn crimson matching the red lipstick stained on her lips from the kisses she stole from you earlier.
the excitement you feel can't be hidden at all as a wide smile spreads on your face. you quickly sit on the bed beside her but her hands reach your waist and you feel her arms lifting your body just enough to make you sit on her lap.
your eyebrows rise and your face turns all shades of pink. you are used to that kind of behavior of hers although it always makes you feel those butterflies inside your stomach.
before starting, you decide to change the music to one you know she likes. you've made her listen to all the songs in spanish you've heard in your entire life so she has a few favorite ones.
your hands brush her cheeks caressing them before grabbing one brush in your hand and start doing her eyeshadow.
"what color is that?" ellie asked with her eyes closed. she couldn't see the makeup you were using for her eyes. that wasn't the most important thing right now but she wanted to catch up with you.
"gris" you answer in your mother tongue chuckling for yourself as you see her confused facial expression struggling to remember all the words you've taught her in spanish.
"hm..." she hums but she has no idea what it means "brown?"
you giggle "gray."
"yeah, i was going to say that. you didn't let me finish."
after a few minutes, you finish doing her eyeshadow. it was a more dark style since you know that's her favorite, it's not like she asked you to do it that way but you just wanted to do something that she'd like wear.
when she opens her eyes you almost melt at the sight of the green in her eyes being highlighted by the color on her eyelids. gray eyeshadow with sparkles and black eyeliner that added that sexy detail to her look.
she smirks at you when she notices you are totally distracted by her gorgeous eyes. she's right though, your mind is completely blank and the moment her hands squeeze your thighs you go back to reality.
"so pretty" you whisper before planting soft and sweet kisses on her lips.
the moment you have to put her lipstick on, you already know it's going to be the hardest part of the makeup. she's wouldn't stop mumbling the songs, talking to you and laughing when she was supposed to stay still.
as soon as you finish putting her lipstick on, you move your head back to take a look at the final result and all you can see is a bewitching but totally messy makeup on her face that makes her look more kissable than ever.
you can't even let her see the final result because you've already kissed every inch of her cheeks, forehead and nose and now she's covered in the red lipstick from your lips.
HI ANON SORRY FOR MAKING YOU WAIT TOO MUCH 😭😭 i hope you liked it though <33
i didn't know how to end this, i feel like it's weird but that was the best i could do,,,

how was the process of getting a dumbphone!
oh my god this is something i'm so excited to talk about, sorry it took me so many months to respond!
getting a dumbphone improved my quality of life so so much. i knew my screentime was high, but didn't realise it was a genuine psychological addiction until i quit. the first few days were extremely rough. time seemed to pass about ten times slower, and i was forced to fill the hours with various hobbies and activities. i know we all love to tell people to touch grass, but i really did have to connect with nature and it did wonders for my mental health.
i think for the first three days i was constantly restless and horribly irritable, looked around for my phone every few minutes, felt intense boredom and even cried a few times lol. your addiction may not be as extreme as mine was and this varies from person to person. however, after about a week i realised i remembered everything i'd done each day, because it was filled with intentional activities and little moments of peace rather than a blur of scrolling. i also wasn't on adhd meds yet, which is something i'll talk about in another post.
not having everything at your fingertips is uncomfortable, but (and it's a cliche) you really start to appreciate the world around you more. i looked forward to spending time with my family, because it filled time and i wasn't half-involved in my phone the entire time. i use an mp3 player to listen to music, and uploading music to it is a meaningful and interesting activity, rather than just shuffling a playlist. i listen to whole albums instead of being flooded with dopamine from spotify firing recommended songs at me. i appreciate music more, i make CDs for friends, i have to be intentional in discovering new artists and music. if i'm having an interesting conversation online, i look forward to going home and logging onto my laptop to continue it. i don't spend my commute, time in class, or time with friends texting somebody else. everything feels more intentional, spaced out, and interesting, even the things i do online.
i also found i stopped performing in every activity i did. i stopped thinking about whether i could post it to instagram or instantly send a picture in a discord server. i started picking up new hobbies for myself, not for an online audience, and living in the moment more. this is really important in the modern age, although again uncomfortable.
the best part was how my connections with others increased through having a dumbphone. i started calling friends rather than messaging on five platforms at once, and they started reciprocating. my message threads are continuous, coherent conversations, rather than sending memes. people realised they have to intentionally reach out to me, and i lost relationships with people who weren't interested in that, but strengthened connections with people who did put in the effort (many of whom i barely talked to in the past). i give people my phone number, not my social media handle, and they actually start conversations with me rather than hitting follow. i get to hear my friends' voices when they have drama to share and realise it takes me forever to type on my flip phone keyboard. again, everything is intentional, takes time, and richer than when i had a smartphone.
i genuinely would recommend it to absolutely everyone (i've kind of become like a crossfit guy in telling people to get a dumbphone lol). i won't pretend it's easy, and most people make excuses - for the first few months of having a dumbphone, i was bedbound or in hospital, and truly relied on online connections to pass time and communicate. it still hugely improved my life. however, no matter your situation there are always, always better options than scrolling an app, and you deserve to pass your time in a memorable way. i think most people don't realise they're addicted/reliant on smartphones, and the idea of quitting is horribly uncomfortable, but at least for me, the benefits were worth it.
i'm happy to answer any questions, i literally could talk about this topic for hours (even if it's stuff like "how would i use x app" "how would i replace x smartphone function").
ditch your smartphone babe, u deserve better <33

welcome to my humble blog! ʕ`・ω・´ʔゞ [← waving bear kaomoji]
expect to find art, alternative music, bugs, science, bears, and more! frequently used tags will be added to this post.
i add image descriptions when they're not already included in a post.
if i add an image description to your post, please edit it into the original post - that's the most accessible way to do it aside from including it from the get-go. no credit is needed.
please do not add undescribed images to a post you're reblogging from me. if you need help describing something, my inbox & DMs are always open and I would literally rather describe the entire thing for you than have you post it undescribed. more information about image descriptions and the like can be found under #accessibility.

more info about me under the cut!
if you are a minor, i won't follow you back but you're free to follow - please block the tag "minors dni" though. i don't really post much nsfw but it does pop up from time to time.
please go share Najlaa's fundraiser and donate what you can!

about me:
my name is peach or riley, pronouns are he/they/fae, and i'm a transmasc femme lesbian - see my pronouns page for more info if you're curious how i like to be referred to!
i'm 27 (♎ libra), i've been on tumblr since 2010, and i have a master's degree in biology!
i enjoy reading (seriously, i have read over 80 books so far in 2024) with a particular fondness for sci fi and fantasy. i also read a lot of manga!
i also really enjoy music - i love listening to albums front to back when i discover an artist i like and reading up about them on the internet. I have over 100 CDs in my collection. i have spent hours on end researching songs that fit a particular vibe that i want to curate a playlist around. i also love reading about specific genres and their origins. my top genres include midwest emo, screamo, and shoegaze, but i will generally listen to any kind of music. if you say you listen to everything except rap, you're being antiblack and you should shut the fuck up and think about it.
#tunez is where i share music i enjoy.
my favourite video games are the pokemon mystery dungeon games (explorers of sky is the best), the dragon age series (zevran is forever in my heart), baldur's gate 3, the mass effect series, dave the diver, final profit, and civ 6.
previous URLs you may know me by include zevbian (will probably come back to it when the new dragon age releases), dyketorbjorn, and chubey.
i write image descriptions because this makes the internet a more accessible place for many people - first and foremost, blind and low vision people, though it can be helpful to others as well. posts with only alt text are tagged "id in alt text" and posts without any description are tagged "undescribed". descriptions I have added myself are tagged "described". i do not tag fundraising posts as undescribed even if they aren't because i believe that they need as much exposure as possible and the images they include are usually secondary to the intent of the post.
feel free to look at my carrd that I haven't updated for a few years, lol

is there something specific about celestes movement that makes you enjoy it so much? do you have any personal criticisms/problems with it? youre really pretty. how did you discover your current music taste? whats your favorite form of text to read (eg books, fanfic, social media, etc)? yaoi? if you were to design your own movement system for an original game, what would it look like? do you have any thoughts on human-ness as a personal malleable identifier? peanut butter? favorite aesthetic? do you have a general moral philosophy in explicit terms that you apply to daily life? have you ever had a fear of others perception of you? do you like milk? chain or 'rope' leashes? are there parts of your identity that seem nonexistent or irrelevant to the people around you but seem very important to you? do you think of yourself as an original or creative person? your keyboard sounds really good and it makes me happy to listen to. do you have any topics, images, media, etc that you often want to bring up/talk about/post but dont get the chance? im very sorry if this is too much. please forgive me.
oh this is amazing i love this
okay let's go through it one by one
is there something specific about celestes movement that makes you enjoy it so much? i think it's just the fact that it lends itself so well to gaining insane amounts of consistency while still being challenging. i used to play iwbtg fangames, and theyre pretty cool but i simply just gravitate towards really hard platforming, and higher level fangame platforming is kinda ass i think, it's just full of frame perfects and feels really frustrating and inconsistent. celeste, it has so much depth yet everything is usually pretty reasonable to get consistent at eventually. i just love how possible it is to build consistency very high :3 also, 3903 hours and i still learn more about the game often which is kinda insane
do you have any personal criticisms/problems with it? hmmmm uhhhh. it's very hard to think of any, at least. WAIT i figured it out. Fucking core blocks. Evil . they are liftboost scam Hell. wish liftboost scams didnt happen in general tbh. steerable move blocks my enemy!!!! there's probably some more minor grievances i have with specific aspects but theyre never too big of a problem and sometimes can be cool to work around :3
youre really pretty. woah thanks. here's a picture of me and my friends in bed

how did you discover your current music taste? this one's kinda hard to answer, i feel like it's just constantly evolving. i've always liked pretty much all types of music! it's mostly just i listen to the music other people listen to and im like. oh thats good. then i obsess over an artist or album or song for a while. ive been listening to and seeking out some rap recently which i havent really done before. i don't actually usually listen to much new music but i've been getting better at that
whats your favorite form of text to read (eg books, fanfic, social media, etc)? yknow i havent been reading as much as i should. i should read more actually just Reading a book would save me. i shjoudl do this
yaoi? not particularly i wish they were girls
if you were to design your own movement system for an original game, what would it look like? realistically, the only scenario where i'd do this is if it was a shitpost, and it'd suck and have horrid quirks. but if i were to actually try, id go for something unique iunnoo. something Crazy. it'd be crazy .
do you have any thoughts on human-ness as a personal malleable identifier? maybe not fully sure what this means but i think not being fully human or human at all is awesome :3 like personally, i'm very much Actually quite cat. sometimes i have epic regression moments where im closer to a little kitty than anything else really. but even not during those, being cat is fun and just the best way for me to be
peanut butter? is pretty good i think. don't have it much but it's cool when i do
favorite aesthetic? aggressively queer
do you have a general moral philosophy in explicit terms that you apply to daily life? hmm . i guess not really ? i can't think of an answer to this right now at least. i just try to be "good" (COMPLEX) to people especially trans people. and sometimes i fail, sometimes im not even trying to be good and just do a bad thing. but that doesnt make me a bad person it makes me a normal person. everyone makes mistakes and i try to be compassionate for that i guess. Again especially to trans people i dont give up on trans people easily
have you ever had a fear of others perception of you? oh i used to be terrible with this i used to have 0 self confidence and 10000 insecurities. but at least now i am a different person who i love
do you like milk? yeah :3 especially choccy milk . did you know i have made milk. like my tits i still think thats crazy
chain or 'rope' leashes? both seem pretty cool :3 i've only had experience with non chain ones. chain ones seem more dog right ? im cat . kbity
are there parts of your identity that seem nonexistent or irrelevant to the people around you but seem very important to you? this is rly interesting. well definitely something is i feel like people don't view me as creature cat freak enough. i rarely get "it"ed and everytime i do it's so joyous and makes me like actually rly happy.
do you think of yourself as an original or creative person? id like to think so. i feel like most of it is not being afraid to try whatever insane art shit comes to my mind. if i felt a need to conform to "normal" standards for things i just wouldn't create anything, cause i cant do most Normal forms of art conventionally good. well i could if i learned but i dont wanna. instead i just make Whatever i want and i think that leads to very unique creations. i should make more art
your keyboard sounds really good and it makes me happy to listen to. yayyyy! yknow i used to get so many comments about how my keyboard sounded ass, but it was just because my audio setup was rly not good. i love my bloody b820 w/reds, this ones been going strong for almost 2 years. it's a good keyboard
do you have any topics, images, media, etc that you often want to bring up/talk about/post but dont get the chance? okay. so i was gonna say world of goo but i talk about that all the time. was my childhood etc etc love it so much. but ACTUALLY something i never talk about, cause like NO ONE relates. fucking boom blox for the wii. that was the shittttt. and like No one's played it but it was also my childhood. i know one person who ive seen talk about it and she hates me 😭
im very sorry if this is too much. please forgive me. this was very fun and i do not forgive you

im thinking about getting an ipod or mp3 player of some sort bc im opposed to spotify and streaming services.. have u always had an ipod or did u make the switch back at some point? the only reason i havent done it yet is its kind of intimidating thinking about building up a library of downloaded music + it will be such a big switch in the way i listen to music...which i think is a good thing! i'd like to start using bandcamp more to find new artists i can support w monies but other than that i suppose i can go back to youtubetomp3 like when i was a baby...idk penny for your thoughts on ipods/ the music listening landscape of today?
DO iTTTT !!! i got my ipod from the pawn shop a year ago and never looked back .. Still listen to music on youtube when im at home but i haven't had spotify since 2019. for a few years before the ipod i would just download songs to put on my phone but haveing an ipod is sm more...satisfying 😽 so nice to hold in your hands and pretty to look at. the clicky wheel is totally heartfull ugh! it's just such a lovely litle piece of technology. technology at it's peak really.
U can use soulseek to download music ~~~ become a soulseek cutie! youtube2mp3 works too but soulseek is a whole experience in itself. Plus its muchmore efficient. my ipod dont have much space so it's basically just all my most fav most played albums on there. and then yeah when i want to listen to random one-off songs youtube is always there. Like lately i've been obsessed w building my summer youtube playlist cus it's nice to be able to share that w others too. between ipod and youtube i got everything i need for any situation that may arise.
i dont have beef w spotify like its just the default option rn and i put my music on there for that reason! dont have beef with it it's just not the listening experience pour moi because i dislike all things algorithmic due to my (borderline neurotic) tendencies toward making my own decisions. back when i used it , it rly got on my nerves. But nowadays i'm neutral on spotify ^_^ it helps ppl find my music while i get to be far removed from it so yay ❤️
oops this got kind of long.... TLDR; get an ipod, get soulseek, enjoy the journey discovering & building a library of your own making, for everything else there's youtube ! ty for asking lovely :] pmd9 xx

Always Have, Always Will
{A/N: I know that IRL Taylor Swift wrote the song, but in this universe, this song hadn't previously existed}
Key:
Y/N/N = Your Nickname
Backstory: Y/N has been in a relationship with Mikey for 1 month and she's glad to have a relationship like theirs, and yet she can't help but harbor lifelong feelings for a certain boy in blue. Will she admit her feelings for Leo and end things with Mikey? Or is she destined to have a low-key romance with everyone's favorite artistic goofball?
Somewhere in NYC, in a small apartment inhabited by two best friends, April walks through the door in search of her roommate.
April: "Y/N, you there?"
Y/N: "Hey April, I'm in my room. Come on in."
April followed the voice to find Y/N in her room fiddling with her guitar and typing what she assumed were the lyrics to a song she'd been working on.
April: "So, how's the song coming along?"
Y/N: "Great, I actually just finished it. So, what's up?"
April: "Come on, Y/N, you know what's up. Your whole love triangle situation."
At that, Y/N looked down with a frown, April was the only one aware of her romance issues. Donnie also knew because he was, as he had relentlessly told his brothers, the more observant one in the group, and had been sworn to secrecy by the girls.
April: "So, are you gonna tell them?"
Y/N: "I don't know! I mean, I don't want to ruin my relationship with either of them, nor do I want to break Mikey's heart or hurt his feelings. Plus, if what I believe about Leo and Casey turns out to be true-"
Before Y/N could continue listing the cons of telling the truth about her feelings, April interjected with recently discovered information.
April: "Oh, trust me you don't have to worry about those two being a thing. After making her swear the topic of our discussion wouldn't leave her room, I asked her about your suspicions. She said she only sees Leo as a friend, the same goes for the rest of the team."
Y/N's eyes widen in surprise at this news flash.
Y/N: "Well, I still don't know."
April: "Oh come on, what's the worst that could happen? Let me rephrase that, is this really how you wanna spend what may be the rest of your life? Harboring feelings for someone else while you happen to be dating his brother? Sweetie, just tell them. Don't worry, everything's gonna turn out fine."
Y/N: "How do you know that?"
April: "Because A) I've known them just as long as you have and B) I also know that they could never stay mad at you. Tell you what, why don't you play me your latest hit to give you some time to think it over, and we'll see how you feel afterwards. Deal?"
Y/N gave her a small smile at her proposition.
Y/N: "Deal, just keep in mind, while it is finished, it's still technically a work in progress." "Knowing you, it's gonna be great."
Y/N pressed the spacebar on her laptop to begin playing the background music. She then began strumming her guitar to the rhythm as she started to sing.
{A/N: Bold and underlined is wherever I've changed the lyrics}
youtube
Y/N:
He is sensible and so incredible
And all my single friends are jealous
He says everything I need to hear and it's like
I couldn't ask for anything better
He opens up the door and I get into his tank
And he says, "You look beautiful tonight"
And I feel perfectly fine
But I need screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
It's 2AM and I'm cursing your name
So in love that you act insane
And that's the way I love you
Breaking down and coming undone
It's a rollercoaster kind of rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I love you
He respects my space
And never makes me wait
And he calls exactly when he says he will
He's close to my mother
Talks business with my father
He's charming and endearing
And I'm comfortable
But I want screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
And it's 2AM and I'm cursing your name
So in love that you act insane
And that's the way I'd love you
Breaking down and coming undone
It's a rollercoaster kind of rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I'd love you
He can't see the smile I'm faking
And my heart's not breaking
'Cause I'm hardly feeling anything at all
And you're so wild and crazy
Just so frustrating
Intoxicating, complicated
Pushed away by some mistake and now
I dream of screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
It's 2AM and I'd be cursing your name
So in love that I 'd act insane
And that's the way I'd love you
Breaking down and coming undone
It's a rollercoaster kind of rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I'd love you oh, oh
Whoa, whoa, oh-oh, oh
And that's the way I love you oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, whoa
Never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I've loved you
As the song ended, April had a smile of amazement at her friend's talent.
April: "Wow, Y/N that was-"
Before she could finish her statement, a familiar voice suddenly interrupted from behind.
Mikey: "Y'know, I always knew you had some kind of artistic talent in you, I just never expected you to be better than I imagined."
Y/N: "Mikey, ohmigosh, you must've heard everything. Listen, I am so, so, so sorry. Like I said before, I never meant to hurt you or anyone else."
Mikey: "Y/N/N, relax, we're good. Besides, April has a point. I could never stay mad at you. None of us could, especially not Leo. Plus, I always had an inkling about the two of you. So, we still friends?"
Mikey extended his hand for her to shake, which she gladly accepted. He then pulled her into a hug, just to drive his point home.
Y/N: "Of course we're still friends, Mikey, always."
Mikey: "So, with that out of the way, in the words of Dr. Delicate Touch--"
Y/N: "Oh boy, here we go."
Mikey: "WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING HERE? Go tell him the truth. Before you ask, he's in his room, reorganizing his action figures, comic books, etc. Good luck, not that you'll need it."
At that, he turned towards April as they shared a knowing look. They had known about Leo's feelings for Y/N and planned to listen to the upcoming conversation between them from the entrance of Leo's room.
Y/N: "Alright, I'll do it. Thanks for the luck and understanding, guys, I owe you one each."
April: "Don't mention it, what are besties for? Now go get your guy already!"
As Y/N raced out the door on her way to the lair, the others followed suit.
Mikey then called Raph and Donnie to explain what's already happened and what's about to happen. As Y/N arrived at the lair, Raph greeted her with a smile that seemed suspicious to her.
Raph: "Hey Y/N, any plans for tonight? Any life-changing events you had in mind?"
At that, Donnie rolled his eyes at his brothers not-so subtle questions.
Donnie: "Oh, for Newton's sake! Look, Mikey told us what happened. Therefore, as Leo's brothers and your best friends, we fully support what you're about to do and wish you luck."
Donnie gave her a warm smile as he finished his summary of what had happened in the last few minutes, which she returned.
Donnie: "Thanks, D."
She then turned and walked towards Leo's room.
Y/N stopped at Leo's door, took a deep breath to calm her nerves, then knocked on the door.
Y/N: "Leo, it's Y/N. Can we talk?"
The door opened to reveal Leo beside his bed polishing a Jupiter Jim action figure.
Leo: "Hey Y/N, what's up? Is everything ok?"
Y/N: "Yeah, yeah, everything's fine. It's just that, um, ok here goes. Leo, I've had feelings for you for a long time now. I assume you can guess why I've kept that a secret."
Leo: "Because you're in a relationship with Mikey, right?"
Y/N: "Well, yes and no. See, these feelings I've had for you started a while before I started dating Mikey, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings when he asked me out, so I figured there'd be no harm in saying yes. I actually had a discussion with him a while ago, and we both agreed that we're better off as friends. In other words, I really like you, Leo. No, more than that, I love you."
Before Y/N could continue any further Leo pulled her into a kiss full of love, longing, and passion. As they pulled away, her eyes widened in surprise and shared a loving smile as Leo gave her the answer he had wanted to tell her for so long.
Leo: "I love you too, Y/N."
Y/N smiled and asked him, just to be sure.
Y/N: "Really?"
Leo: "Of course I do."
"Always have, always will."

Just read a headline that Billy Joel was diagnosed with a form of hydrocephalus and it made me remember when I was six or seven years old and I thought this was one of the greatest songs of all time. I also thought "Achey Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus is good so I did not have the most sophisticated musical palette, due to the aforementioned fact that I was six year-old.
This song still holds up, though. I don't think it's my favorite Billy Joel song. That'd be "The Stranger."
youtube
I've always had this soft spot for Billy Joel that hasn't faded away. His songs are just that good. I've never done a deep dive into his discography the way I have with many of the bands I love, but I made my mom replay his Greatest Hits over and over again on cassette tape, which makes me feel ancient saying despite 38 not being that old. I do still feel like this way more often than I'd like to, though.
youtube
Billy Joel was one of the rare artists that my mom decided that she still liked after divorcing my dad, who was mostly a prog rock guy but he was also a musician, and one of the coolest things about him is that he never lost interest in discovering new artists. My mom, meanwhile, turned her taste aggressively normie, distancing herself from rock music to the point where I barely heard her listen to the two bands that she now claims have been her life-long favorites; Talking Heads and The Cure, two bands I would hear a lot on the radio but she didn't own any of their albums. But she held onto Billy Joel's Greatest Hits, and my dad would notice me getting excited when Billy Joel first showed up on the (then brand new) classic rock station (104.3 The Colt on WZFT). This would lay the foundation upon which my taste in music would be built, and to my dad's credit, he was just really happy that I was passionate enough about music to want to buy albums that he was willing to put up with me getting really into Spice Girls, Alanis Morrissette, and Will Smith though he was incredibly relieved when I requested he put on the alternative rock station a few months later because I'd discovered Nirvana and there wasn't any going back from that.
But even after I'd gone all in on 90's alternative rock, I'd still come back to Billy Joel. And Billy Joel would never really leave. "Piano Man" being secretly about the narrator being a straight guy playing at a gay bar without knowing it became a meme on this very site.
youtube
And of course...
youtube
youtube
I don't know all of the details about Billy Joel's divorce(s?) and I'm not really sure I care enough to look that information up. The man's career was considered dead by the time I was aware of who he was. I still had "The Stranger" on a CD I burned with a bunch of other very random artists and songs I found on Kazaa and I'm pretty sure I was an adult by the time he started really touring again.
I don't know if I'll ever see Billy Joel live. The tickets are well out of my price range; I wince looking at ticket prices for shows that are above $50 and he's not in the very small number of bands that I would try and go out of my way to see. But I do hope he's able to play more live shows eventually. I've heard he puts on a good show.

Been thinking lately.
Did that thing that I do where I fancy someone's work so I try to learn as much as I can about them and inevitably fall "in love" with them. Trent Reznor. I've been listening to him / Nine Inch Nails for 11 years. A small portion of NIN's existence, but about 40-ish percent of my life, significant. So, this was a bit surprising to experience out of nowhere. I mean, not entirely out of the blue: NIN announced a tour, so I bought tickets for September so I can FINALLY see them and obviously started listening more heavily to prepare. And the thing happened, of course. It always does. It's a form of euphoria when I feel it coming on. "This person creates or puts something out into the world it sets my soul on fire. I love you, person!"
I like that I always have new things to learn from people I fall for in this way. New parts of my being that are reached. Just want to establish that. On the outside, I may look fickle. Maybe there's some truth to that. "Who you like changes with the wind" is something I was told once that has stuck with me. Do I fixate when I feel that connection? Unequivocally. But I feel that I have a lot of love to give. And a lot to learn from people I respect. I'll never be ashamed of how frequent or hard I fall "in love" with the best of a human. Even if it is an untouchable artist or actor or any other person who is objectively out of reach. They're human. I can know them through their art and what they put out into the world. I am a collection of the gifts I've been given across endless unique individuals. They don't cease to exist when I feel a connection to someone else. They all comprise the pieces of me. That is beautiful. That is mine. I won't be shamed for it.
Now, to spill my thoughts I originally wanted to express. I read a tidbit from an article that says something along the lines of "Girls love Trent Reznor because they want to be Trent Reznor. They relate to him. They know what it's like to be angry, despondent, lost, and want to scream and not have an outlet to do so. They want to fuck him, because he's fucking beautiful, but they also want to be him."
And it knocked the wind out of me. I think I gravitate (romantically? artistically? humanistically?) to people who embody traits of who I am - but particularly who I want to be. Maybe this is part of why I'm attracted to older men. They've typically reconciled on some critical level who they are. They can hold the various parts of themselves without the judgment, insecurity, or pressure that comes from youth. That's sexy. That's appealing.
Trent's lyrics and performances have always taken me aback. From the first time I heard him. I remember listening to those first few songs at 16 saying "Shit. This is dark." I didn't have a relationship with darkness. I grew up in a Christian household. Darkness was the proverbial enemy, so I didn't spend time with it when it crept into me. But pushing it down doesn't dispell it. I felt a degree of darkness, I just didn't have the tools to express it. To see someone do it so honestly and so raw was like being hit by a freight train. I didn't know you could know your darkness this intimately or express your feelings about it in such an eloquent and soul-bearing way.
When I first discovered Nine Inch Nails as a teenager, I clung to the songs that held the saddest parts of me. A Warm Place. Lights in the Sky. Every Day is Exactly the Same. Even Deeper. These guided me through clinical depression, anxiety, ideation, and my first steps into becoming an adult - mess and all. Then, in 2022, after the culmination of a period of narcissistic abuse, a failed relationship, and the death of my grandmother, I started feeling anger at a frequency and intensity that terrified me. Enter Terrible Lie. Enter Only. Enter Sin. I related to this music in an entirely different dimension, and it helped me navigate these new, uncomfortable emotions.
I'm 27 now, and I've found myself listening to music of his I hadn't previously. I'm gleaming new meanings. New reactions. New expressions. I'm revisting the old ones - ones that feel like embracing an old friend, reflecting on what they've meant to me and how they still reside in me. And I'm exploring the new ones - the ones I haven't created those relationships with, the ones I'm still deriving my personal meaning from. They'll come with me too.
I deeply appreciate that I can relate to a younger, angry, lonely and sad version of him, and I absolutely cherish that I can relate to the older, happier, stabler version of him too - one that still has problems, just different problems, and healthier ways of coping and quantifying them. I can hold these two together. His music fills different voids in me. They can shape my life in equally important ways. And they continue to do so.
Thank you, Trent, for sharing your soul with us. 💕
#personal#i needed to put this out there for no discernible reason#a day in the life of bekah#trent reznor#nine inch nails

This headcanon has a decent sized lead in to explain it and its really silly in the end, so bear with me. (It also might be a bit all over the place because I'm trying to bang this out quickly becore I have to go, lol)
Zhongli being immortal means that he is a very patient man(Dragon? Dragon.) dispite the ferocity and feral tendency of his youth. So when he meets Childe for the first time and realizes that, yes, this is the man he wants to spend his days with, he's probably hoping that his immortality will end when he forks over his gnosis.
Unfortunately for poor Zhongli, it doesn't, and while he has the time that he craved for with Childe, his darling love is only mortal. But this is Tayvat, where all the world is a stage and the actors will always be called back time and time again for the rolls they have to play, so all Zhongli really needs to do is wait.
It's painful. So painful. Everytime his heart leaves him he's forced to pause and wallow in his own loneliness while waiting for the cycle of things to restart. The first few times really nearly broke him.
But, after a while, he would be able to start looking forward to running into his baobai again and especially looking forward to seeing what trouble Childe manages to get into in this new life.
Of course, Zhongli cannot maintain his position as funeral consultant for too long. People might start to get suspicious when a man claiming to be a fellow mortal doesn't age. He has to switch things up from time to time. And if, in that switching up, he learns how to put himself in the best positions possible to interact with Childe intimately on this new stage, well nobody is going to call him out on his schemes.
On top of this, Zhongli might have stepped down as The Lord of Geo, but he is still The Prime Adepti no matter what he does. So sometimes he...invites his fellow adepti into his new schemes.
Now, they aren't always completely fresh ideas. He's been a professor several times (not just because he loves the way Childe jokingly called him that in their first life together all those years ago), a member of the millelith in various positions a few times, a boss of a (shall we say) family twice, an artist several times, a champion fighter, an underground fighter, a historical advisor, a museum curator, a librarian, and (much to Venti's loud and cackling amusement) a bard/poet three times.
When times start to shift and things change, he learns new hats too. Joining Venti in learning how to fly planes is always a memory he'll hold as guilded gold (though he can never quite tell if it's out of fondness or from pure frustration). The invention on the internet and watching the subsequent changes from that has been fascinating.
But through it all, every passing of every year, he’s always doing it for Childe. He loves seeing the new ways the younger man will come waltzing into his life. He dreads the days when Childe inevitably has to bow out of it too.
So it goes without saying that Zhongli hoards Childe's time as all these years pass. Hoards away Childe's opinions on the times they live in like their gospel. Hoards Childe's things for him in carefully preserved, neatly arranged rows.
The one thing he can't ever seem to get enough of is the music that Childe brings with him. Zhongli can mark memories to songs that Childe sung along to or hummed the tune of while cooking. He can mark eras and areas by the style and tempo to which Childe swung his hips and laughed to.
Zhongli cannot begin to count the pieces of music that he keeps stored in his hoard, some of it so old that the notes on the yellowed pages haven't been heard by mortal ear for eons. Zhongli was extatic when they came out with vinyl records. Cassettes were even better becuasethey were smaller and took up less space. And then they came out with CDs and Zhongli had to commend mortals for the wonders of their minds. He lost his fucking mind when the first digital music players became avaliable (and then discovered, to his frustration, that the little devices could only hold so much data. He got happier with them as they advanced.)
So when Childe walks back into his life, Zhongli is always excited to reintroduce him to all of his past live's favorites and then show him all the songs Zhongli has been listening to in the mean time. No matter what hat the two of them are wearing in this fresh start, weather it be cop and robber, student and teacher, or fighter to fighter, Zhongli herds them both into a comfortable space with a music player and plays music while he re-bonds with his beloved again.
All of this to say this: This latest reincarnation of Childe, if he was born in the later parts of the 90s/the early parts of the 2000s would have quite a few opinions on music when sitting down with Zhongli. And Zhongli, who does his best but has never really kept up with the more petty tendencies of mortals would very unironically love some music that Childe might have gotten negative opinions about from growing up in the times that he did.
Here's the thing, when Childe's at home, he has his younger siblings, and for a while he was the younger sibling, so most of what he listens to is clean for kids. (I'm sure mans has most of the Tayvat equivalent to Disney memorized at this point.) He's also a workaholic (as evidenced by the fact that The Knave said he was supposed to be on vacation in Fontaine, but when we meet up with him again he's literally out working for the branch of Northland Bank in the area) So if someone on the internet says a band is cheesy, unless he wants to use up his scant little bit of personal time to check it out, he usually just has to take them at thier word. It probably fits that in this life, he works as a Northland Bank official (and sometimes participates in the particular brand of dept collection all Snezhnayan banks are known for)
Here's the other thing, Zhongli is a fan of rock and roll music, as evidenced by Xinyan's voice line about him (if you know you know. If you don't, go look it up it's fucking hilarious. All the headcanons about Zhongli, the god of rocks, loving rock music give me life and I love the little but of crumblike evidence for it) and is probably thrilled to listen to the way its changed and evolved over the years. He's also thrilled with the way its grown in popularity! I think in this life he probably decided to take it easy and fall back into one of his old roles. It probably helps that the new director of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor reminds him so much of her ancestor.
So, when Zhongli and Childe sit down, Zhongli will definitely just start playing the music. Childe will probably listen to the lyrics first (as an elder sibling gaging if something is appropriate for the younger ones might). Now, the song that Zhongli is showing him right now is not appropriate for his siblings, but Childe like it alot.
Curious, he asks Zhongli what the name of the band is. Imagine Childe's face when Zhongli replies, unironically and happily, Nickelback. Imagine Childe's internal struggle when he realizes he really likes Nickelback dispite everything he's read on the internet dissing them (for no reason). Imagine the blush on Childe's face when he hears some of the things described in those songs coming off of the elegant funeral consultant's lips (low key imagining them doing some of those things together( the song 'animals' comes to mind )
In short, Zhongli would unironically like Nickelback and would make Childe like them too. Childe would not know what that.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Ok so here's a horrifying tale of when I discovered the existence of the movie The Crow 30 years too fucking late this Friday, and somehow never even knew a remake came out for it on the exact. same. day. Bear with me.
Ok so I was on spotify listening to this song (song in question was L.I.S.Å by Taythedxn, please dont look at me) that for some reason had footage of this random ass guy in clown makeup playing in the Now Playing/More Info preview. And I was like - huh! That guy kinda reminds me of my BG3 Tav!!! Nice!!! Naturally I'm pretty interested to find out what the hell is going on with that. So, thinking it's just the music video for that song, I look it up. To my surprise, that was not the music video at all!
At this point I'm massively curious. I am sitting there absolutely dumbfounded and stubborn as shit; I had to find this gorgeous clown man, even if it was 1 am at the time. I was on a MISSION! Finally I managed to muster enough braincells up to reverse image search the guy, and lo and behold, The Crow (1994) pops up. Bingo! There's the gorgeous clown guy!
At first I'm just showing pictures of the main character to my partner like Look!!! Look!!! He looks like my Tav in clown makeup!!!! Woah!!! And then I mention the movie to him, and well- (gonna cut the post in half for you, don't worry 'just browsing' crowd)
My partner being the resident Nine Inch Nails listener pointed this out to me. SO IT HAD THE MARK OF NINE INCH NAILS? I was stoked - Trent Reznor being involved in any soundtrack has always been a great indicator in my eyes. Because of that, I just had to check out the rest of the soundtrack, and I was in AWE.
ALL THESE GOBSMACKING BANDS IN THE SAME SOUNDTRACK. I WAS ABSOLUTELY FLUNG OUT THE WINDOW ABOUT THIS (as seen above).
At this point I was sold, I was GOING to watch this movie. I was deadset on it. And, to my luck, I found it free to watch on youtube... somehow. Still surprised about that. No I'm not linking it, I'm not a snitch, but I assure you it's very accessible. Anyways, I sit down, get comfortable, and get my shit ABSOLUTELY ROCKED. Aesthetically, this movie is everything I love - I had a lot of fun watching it (big fan of the lightbulb scene btw).
Anyways I had the time of my life watching it, really soaking the music and outfits in, absolutely hollering at every indulgently gothy scene. Honestly, what a fucking experience - Eric was a sight to bloody behold. God, I was googoogaga for Myca too!!! The fashion was immaculate, a lot of the costumes are things I try to replicate and wear myself nowadays, so I was beyond stoked to see that right in front of me. I may or may not have a new style guide now!
I finished the movie in a good mood, and ultimately wondered: Why had I never heard of this before? Naturally I check wikipedia, see what production was like and what it was based off of - really neat to see it was based off of a comic, but then as I read on and found out the whole story behind Brandon Lee's death on set, I was very quickly silenced. Suddenly it was way more grave than I anticipated.
Honestly it's a bit weird to mourn a dude 30 years later, but this may be one of the sadder celebrity deaths I've ever heard of. And knowing the effect it had on the original comic artist, who had been through enough shit in his life as is, was absolutely heartbreaking.
So now I sit here, unable to stop thinking about this movie, the comic it came from, and how I managed to stumble across it without even once encountering any advertisements or trailers for the remake that had released on the exact day I had found the original. Don't get me wrong, if anyone discovers the original because of the remake, I think that'd be fucking amazing, because the original deserves lots of love on top of the love it already has - but now knowing the remake was a piece of rubbish, I'm worried people might not look into it.
This may well have been the worst time to discover The Crow (1994) but holy shit, it is forever on my mind from here on out. I wish I had known it sooner, truly. As someone who considers themselves a goth, I did myself a serious disservice by not watching this sooner, I swear.
#lissa says shit#this is maybe the longest ramble i have ever posted but do bear with me#the crow 1994#i do not care to tag the other one#goth movies#dumbass 24 year old discovers a movie from 30 years ago and wonders why they've never heard of it before (it's the 24ness)#what do i even say here#sorry for mentioning bg3 here btw but i did really only look into the movie because the dude looked like my tav#thanks bg3 LMAO

music asks!! 12, 22, and 29
I think songs from preteens and childhood can be revealing but they're hard to remember, at least for me. I wasn't very attentive, and I have shit memory in general but especially recently due to like. Depression reasons. So I did my best but they're a little generic. Sorry!
12. A song from your preteen years
Complicated, by Avril Lavigne. If there's ever been a song about the melodramatic feeling that you are so misunderstood and feeling things that are too big, it's this song. It's so classically 2000s.
I feel differently now about it. Like. Why is it such a problem to try to be something else? Why can't people try things on, be a different person for a day. Show me a permanent state of self, right? People are... complicated. I think there's something kind of interesting now that I have a consideration for the perspective of this song (Why is my friend being weird) and the exact inverse perspective (Why isn't my friend letting me try things or change. Why aren't they supporting me).
It's new and hard and scary to be someone else! From the outside, people feel too comfortable passing judgement on it too. It's not easy to see yourself and try to make a change! But eventually, one day, you discover that you're not trying anymore. Changes are gradual and they're always alien at first. Awkward and fledgling and hard, especially because everyone's a critic these days, right.
But at the same time. When you're a teenager. Your friend changing can be the end of your life. And Avril isn't seeing this internal struggle. She's seeing an authentic person she likes "being fake".
I dunno, it's not that deep, but nothing is and I like snorkeling in puddles.
The song is just as you remember it. Extremely sawed-off guitar riffs, classic pop-punk stylings. Maybe with a little more 2000's ~cringe~ (charm. You are looking for the word charm, guys. If it's not your tastes it's not cringe it's just not your taste) than you remembered. The backing vocals are like. 40% opacity and they could really be pumped up to around 60%. It's got sad girl Kelly Clarkson Breakaway vibes. It's the best.
22. A song that moves you forward
We're gonna go with another cardio playlist song- I Want You by Icona Pop ft. Galantis.
I think Icona Pop didn't have as long in the cultural limelight here in the states they deserved! I Love It was the hit it deserved to be but I think that I love Club Romantech MUCH better album than This Is... Icona Pop. I know there's been 10 years of growth as artists and my ear is trained to like current music by... well, current music, and yadda yadda yadda but like. They have also just been quietly making good music the whole time!!! Where is their critical aclaim!!! They're a Swedish Pop Duo, they're making good music in Sweden. But like. I'm a greedy American. I listen to foreign music all the time!!! Yelle, Cambodian Space Project, Coterie, Garcon Garcon, Dadi Freyr, Maluma, Bad Bunny, Ikimono Gakari, Twice... there's tons of things in heavy rotation that aren't in English. Icona Pop sings in English!!!! (So do some of the listed artists too, fyi. Great first forays into non-american stuff)
The sad part of being a human being with finite time is that you can't have it all. Not to wax poetic about electropop, but you will never encounter every song you would have loved. You can't even listen to every song that was released this year in your life time. There is just not enough time in the world and there are 8 billion people making art. There were 34 million songs uploaded to Spotify in 2022. That would take 129 years straight of listening to hear them all, assuming every song was 2 minutes long (laughable to assume, are you kidding me).
So there's like, the idea that you will not hear it all. And you're not going to like everything you hear either. You might as well give up on hearing it all and only listen to things you really like.
Except. I don't know. I think it sucks! I want better for us. I wish I had more time or more attention or the world wasn't quite so big. I DO want to hear the weird stuff, and decide if I like it or not. I like the idea of curation, certainly, but if my collection is always lacking, biased, not expansive enough. Is there any point?
This is why people specialize, I know it. But that means I need to start collecting specialists like infinity gems, and now- I like having a broad taste- the first level curator. Saying oh you llike this genre, try X and Y and Z. But if you do find any of that to your taste, I can't dig you further without losing my broad dilettante tastes. So You should talk to genre expert X.
A lot to say, and almost none about Icona Pop, really. Listen I like Swedish Electronic Pop, I played DDR for years. Icona Pop has good production, they know their sound and they do it well. The Galantis feature was overkill- I know I love everything Galantis touches but Icona Pop was enough. This song makes me want to do HIIT exercises, that's how much it gets the blood moving. And I Hate Interval Training. Literally kill me instead.
The song has a like. 90's trance feel but with better Synths and a more modern build structure. The vocals are smooth, the synth less harsh. But the overarching synth pattern is very similar. I dunno, it's got a timelessness to it. Some touches of 35 years ago are still here, and I think that's beautiful. And of course, the whole album has some pull from other locations- Loving You Ain't Easy feels much more in the Acid Jazz/berlioz direction, and true trance would be slower. I Want You feels uptempo without actually being crazy high bpm. 123? That's nothing, I can hit a running stride to that.
Great song.
29. A song that you remember from your childhood
You Get What You Give by New Radicals. Do you ever have a song that just. Teleports you back to childhood? I guess that's kind of the point of asks like this. What do I remember from childhood. But I didn't realize this song was still with me, actually. I saw it right there in my spotify on repeat playlist. Here's the embarrassing truth- the version I have in my spotify library is Get What You Give by Felix Cartal. It's a laughably simple cover/port to a 2010's electronic feel. Very "What if The Chainsmokers was doing Now That's What I Call Music covers". Look I never said my tastes were GOOD just that they were broad.
SO yeah, New Radicals. Here's a fun thing- can you name another song by them? I can't. And I'm usually good about one hit wonders- I loved Lou Bega so I can name a couple other songs. I Got A Girl, Tricky Tricky, Baby Keep Smiling. New Radicals? Ghosts in my head. I didn't even find this album (I was like 10 at the time, of course I didn't. I was too busy being "in" "love" with Janet Jackson), I know them from the Now 2 cd we would play in the car.
It's funny, dovetailing directly into Now That's What I Call Music, because I kind of think that surface level curation is what I was describing in the Icona Pop section. Now was kind of the CD equivalent of a top 40 snapshot, and I kind of dig it because even if I don't agree with the music on them, I can't help but begrudgingly accept it WAS popular at the time. And this song was on the second one ever? Nestled right between Britney Spears and Robbie WIlliams (Millenium sucks, fight me).
Now 1 had some much more interesting music in my opinion (Flagpole Sitta, Zoot Suit Riot, Sex and Candy, Barbie Girl) but this song was the GOAT for me. The Baz Luhrman spoken word thing at the end of the CD was also enamorous to me sure but we know I'm a weirdo who likes essentially slam poetry with a backing drum. Let's focus on being a bleeding heart romantic. Because. Did you know. And this is top secret info be discrete here. Did you know?
You've got the music in you.
Fuck, I'm a caricature. This song still gets me misty. YOU. YOU HAVE THE MUSIC IN YOU. It's still there. One dance left. This time you're gonna pull through.
So it's a sappy music finger trap for bleeding hearts like me. Saying stay alive, it's been in you all along, etc. etc. You have music in you, go forth, create.
Ok but what if, and hear me out. What if creating means changing who you are. What if creating feels weird and fake and inauthentic (And to loop us all the way around. What if your friends just don't understaaaaand ok. What if Avril Lavigne is helping make this point too now. What if.)
What if the music in you requires something to break first.
New Radicals only made the one album- they broke up shortly after that. I sometimes wish they'd done more, but I can't describe why I like this song either, because. It objectively kinda sucks??? The piano is repetitive and doesn't add much to the song. The drums are anemic and not dynamic enough. The guitar is good but not noteworthy. The lyrics are schmaltzy and cute but the delivery is pretty one note. The intro is iconic but then the rest of the song doesn't incorporate any of those elements again. The call and response in the chorus is missing... something. It should be fuller? Everyone's a critic these days
I don't know man. It just gives me that big feeling. It says something real. I like it. I was 10.
In some ways I'll never not be 10 though. Right? We will always be ourselves. Don't forget- you've always got yourself. You might as well make your peace with it.
So here's to songs that remind me of when I was 10, yeah? I hope you like it.

"Got the radio on, my old blue jeans and I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve," Taylor Swift sings on "A Place in This World," a self-penned coming-of-age anthem from her debut album due out this fall on Big Machine Records. It's an apt description of the enthusiastic, down-to-earth young woman, whose original compositions about teenage life brim with poignant honesty and an infectious spirit.
Just 16 years old, Taylor is at an age when most teenagers are only beginning to find their identity and lay tentative plans for the future. But there's never been much doubt in Taylor's mind about her calling. Growing up on a farm in Wyomissing, Pa., music was ever-present in her home. Inspired by her maternal grandmother, a professional opera singer, Taylor took up singing early in life. At 10, she began performing around town at karaoke contests, festivals and county fairs, and even recording rough demos at a studio. At 11, she performed the national anthem at a Philadelphia 76ers NBA game in front of thousands of fans.
But it wasn't until she picked up a guitar at 12 and learned to write her own songs that Taylor discovered how readily she could channel the turbulent emotions of growing up into her music. That year, she wrote "The Outside," a heartbreaking lament about loneliness. Before long, she was spending every available moment playing and writing. "I was playing four hours a day until my fingers were bleeding and my mom called me to dinner," she says.
No strangers to the music business, Taylor's family recognized both her talent and determination. They began taking regular trips to Nashville to shop her music around, and she began writing with local songwriters. After a few years, during which the family made the decision to move to nearby Hendersonville, Tenn., a showcase at the Bluebird Cafe caught the attention of music-industry veteran Scott Borchetta, who was planning to launch a new label. After meeting with Taylor, he knew she was one of the first artists he wanted to sign.
Since then, Taylor has pulled double duty as a straight-A high school student and full-fledged recording artist, a balancing act the teenager handles with grace. "I have tunnel vision as far as this goes," she says. "I can always keep my eyes on the goal." Still, she admits sheepishly, there are moments when songwriting inspiration strikes in the middle of a lecture, making concentration difficult. "If we had random notebook checks, my teachers might find biology notes, biology notes, then suddenly a bunch of lyrics," she laughs.
The songs Taylor scrawls in those spiral notebooks are bright, engaging melodies filled with all the ebullience and drama of adolescent life. In "Our Song," the narrator bemoans the fact she and her boyfriend don't share a sentimental tune, only to have him affectionately describe all the little moments that make their relationship special. "Our song is the way you laugh," he tells her.
Like all songwriters, Taylor is inspired by the life going on around her, and like any 16-year-old, she admits to a "fascination" with love. Thus, her classmates—her biggest fans, she says—often find themselves the subject of her songs. "They're all going to buy the album and have a little bit of a heart attack," she says with a grin.
A country superstar—and one of Taylor's greatest influences—was also surprised to find himself the subject of her debut single. A tender ballad, "Tim McGraw" describes the way music can evoke the sweetest of memories: "When you think Tim McGraw/I hope you think my favorite song/The one we danced to all night long."
Elsewhere on the album, Taylor tackles more serious issues. "Tied Together With a Smile," captures the fragile self-esteem of teenagers, inspired by girls Taylor has known through the years, including a beauty-pageant queen who suffered from an eating disorder: "Seems the only one who doesn't see your beauty/Is the face in the mirror looking back at you." In the second verse, she laments lack of confidence sometimes leads girls her age to make hasty and reckless decisions about their relationships: "I guess it's true that love was all you wanted/'Cause you're givin' it away like it's extra change."
Such flashes of maturity give weight to songs that otherwise sparkle with the carefree joie de vivre of youth. Taylor admits her primary agenda with her music is to evoke a strong emotional response. "I want to make people feel things," she says simply.
As she prepares an album with that in mind, Taylor is careful not to let her "tunnel vision" keep her from enjoying every moment of her budding music career. "Everything about this business is exciting to me," she says, "whether it's putting on a pretty dress to go to an awards show, or putting on a sweatshirt to go into the studio to record."
"You only get so many firsts," she adds. "Every one is a blessing."
