I'm super excited to see Mephiles in full, in the modern animation style!! We were introduced to him in 06, which had different models that were a lot taller and longer than the ones we're currently using. So I'm excited to see what his updated model looks like!

So was finally able to watch Sonic prime today and I have so many words after the first watch.

Gonna put it all under the cut so spoilers for Sonic Prime below.

So I love Nine so much. He is gonna be probably one of the best characters in this show, in my opinion.

Just he's been through so much with no one caring about him at all. I like that he's just a very selfish character but in an understandable way. Why would he stay and help these people he's never met, no one ever bothered to ever help him so why would/should he help them. So yeah of course he's not gonna care to help the resistance they never did anything for him.

He only cares about Sonic who is the first person in his entire life to ever be kind to him. Nine has an immediate attachment to Sonic, despite him saying otherwise that they aren't friends, but actions speak louder than words there buddy-o. Like you literally wanted to start a new world with just the two of you my guy.

I see people thinking that Nine thinks Sonic abandoned him there at the end, and I think he does a little bit but not 100%. In that he's not gonna just betray Sonic since Sonic didn't save him. Nine is smart he knows Sonic keeps randomly traversing the Shatterverse thing area and has the same energy signal. Once Sonic is able to explain "oh I was going towards you but then got booted into the in-between" Nine will probable be like "oh that tracks based on my calculations" (in my mind I want it to go like this at least, plus I hate plots with the "oh you left me so I will betray you" when literally it was out of the other persons control to leave them, idk I just really am not a fan of that kind of plot line).

Also Nine still made sure that he gave the Eggman quintuplets a reason not to kill Sonic. I think once Nine realizes they can't find Sonic in that reality he'll put two and two together of what happened.

Also also can we talk about how Nine was literally smarter than all 5 Eggmans put together. He hacked their computers, overrode Rusty Rose, and figured out how to traverse the Shatterverse in a few weeks with the shard that the human forms of Eggsecute couldn't figure out when they literally had it for seemingly years. Nine just Legally Blond "what like it's hard" the Eggmans so bad.

Side note, can we just talk about how in almost every single world Sonic's first response is "I need to find Tails!!" He needs Tails to figure out what going on and how to fix it but also that's his best friend and little brother, new situation find the person he trusts the most first. Him saving Mangey Tails when he first got to the jungle world was just so adorable he was so worried about him.

There's so much with this show I wanna talk about but I'm real tired.

I upset and disappointed with Sonic Prime Tails using a drone to attack badniks, like come on, dude!

Like it's one thing for the scu Tails to use a blaster because he's baby and I don't want him anywhere near those dirty bots, are you kidding me? But Prime!Tails? Come on, use those lanky teenage legs, give it a kick! Spindash, do a tail swipe, something!

Boom!Tails is one of the least physically fit versions of Tails out there and even he was going at it with a wrench. Smh.

Nuh uh uh *shakes my little finger* you will not get me Sonic franchise you will NOT get me invested into all this my dear buddy pal I've always enjoyed seeing you around but I will simply continue being a bystander just watching as it all goes by bcuz I know how it'll go if I actually get into all this

But also if I get bored I might get into it anyways it's mostly just a silly rule I put for myself cuz I know it would be a lot of work to catch up and I would prolly end up wanting to play some of the games if I got into the franchise but I'm not a gamer @ all so

You play Sonic games enough and you start to almost forget about the fact that like oh this certain game actually introduced this feature but I was watching a video on 3&K which reminded me that oh yeah, level transitions were like a new thing to that game - the other titles didn't have those. And where that led my mind to is realising that Sonic 2 has probably the least coherent and meaningful world design I suppose of the classic trio?

What I mean by that is you play 3&K and you're introduced to Angel Island at the start of the game, and get a good sense of location through all the level transitions. Sonic 1 doesn't have anything like that, but there is that gradual thematic transition from pure nature, into increasingly manmade locals, eventually culminating in the pure industrial hell of Scrap Brain zone - it's linear but there's something there that builds South Island super well. You play Sonic 2 and there's not really anything like that. Westside Island is just a bunch of disconnected places. Emerald Hill into Chemical Plant into Aquatic Ruin and so on. The end of the game does some storytelling stuff to connect the last couple zones together - but prior to that it's kind of just a free for all. Anything can happen at any time and it doesn't really matter how you got from A to B or if those locations represent a grander thematic idea. Even throwing Sonic CD into the mix that game's art design and colour palettes are pretty consistent such that Little Planet feels fully coherent as well. Sonic 2 just doesn't really go that extra mile in the same way the others did.

Idk just thought it was interesting.

Okay so. I kept seeing drawings of Siffrin in iconic Sonic the Hedgehog poses for some godforsaken reason? And like, I was a HUGE Sonic nerd as a teenager. Absolutely obsessed. You can't do this to me. As soon as I thought, "Isabeau would fit Knuckles' poses," and "Mirabelle can be Amy Rose!" it was all over. I had to join the funny art trend.

I'd already seen drawings of the really iconic Sonic Adventure poses, so I decided to go with Sonic Advance 3 poses instead. They might not be as recognizable, but as someone who loved SA3, they're iconic to me. And I'm the artist here, the only people who matter are me and my inner child LMAO.

I wanted to just go with the flow for this drawing and not worry about style or anatomy as much. No thoughts, head empty, only vibes. It turned into a really fun abomination of my casual art style, ISaT style, and decade-old Sonic-drawing muscle memory. I miss Siffrin's cloak fuzzies though, but Sonic art styles are just so smooth and clean and I couldn't find a way to get them to mesh well.

Time taken was 20 hours and 10 minutes, because I don't know how doodling works.

Isabeau took a fraction of the time Siffrin and especially Mira did. Amy's pose is not meant for human arms. I left behind a graveyard of failed hand poses. Meanwhile Siffrin was rough because of their friggin cloak making the pose hard to read, but I figured it out!
