i appreciate that in the boba fett expanded universe canon, we have multiple moments from multiple authors that boil down to "despite his reputation/appearance, boba fett is not fearless, and is in fact doing his level best right now to walk calmly away from this objectively terrifying situation rather than breaking into a fucking sprint in the opposite direction"

We ARE going to bring up Captain Amelia. You have good taste! GOOD TASTE I SAY! *aka I just rewatched Treasure Planet and got hit with, "Oh yeahhhhh... that explains a lot!"*
honestly, the Meg/Jasmine/Amelia trifecta tells you 90% about me as a person. (the rest is covered by Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Uranus and, uhhh, I'll stop baring my soul to the world now)
and speaking of Amelia, this is tangential, but like -- there's one Twst comic I have been kicking at for a while where I needed an RSA sports/flight teacher and, uh, well
someday I will wrangle this stupid comic into coherency and she'll get to make an appearance (in the background of a single panel, half-obscured by a tall hat) (but I will know she's there and that's the important thing)

I've been stuck on viewing Maggie as Crowley's mirror, and for most of the show I like that interpretation. But once I started thinking of Nina as Crowley's Mirror in the ball scene specifically, I made a connection....
Aziraphale is playing God here. He has a vision- a happy romantic evening where people speak Victorian English, dress nicely, dance, and fall in love -and he wills everyone present to conform to his plan. But Nina doesn't conform. Nina feels like something isn't right. She asks questions.
She asks Aziraphale what's going on, why she doesn't feel sad when she knows she's sad, and Aziraphale doesn't give her a satisfactory answer. He tells her that the important thing is that she's here. She's here to play a role in his great plan. To dance in his ball.
So she expresses her concerns to Maggie. Maggie hadn't seen the issues at first, but she listens to Nina, and Nina gets her to acknowledge the absurdity of the situation just a little bit. Listen to their conversation at the dance again. It sounds SO MUCH like the conversations we've heard Crowley and Aziraphale have a thousand times during their 6000 year dance. Crowley calling out heaven, asking questions, trying to get Aziraphale to consider the absurdity of it all. Aziraphale mostly defending heaven, but listening, and sometimes acquiescing.
And this all falls in line with a point I've made before - In season 2, Crowley's relationship with Aziraphale begins to mirror his relationship with heaven. Aziraphale shows a pattern of not listening to Crowley the whole season, but especially in this scene. Crowley tries to ask him what is going on, and alert him to very real danger, but Aziraphale is dismissive. He is blinded by his desire to see his plan to fruition.
And just so we're clear, this is not an Aziraphale hate post. Rather, I think it might give us some insight into where God is coming from. Because Aziraphale's actions may be dismissive and controlling, but they are motivated by love. Misguided, certainly, but with all the best intentions. I have a feeling, when we finally meet God, it will be a similar story. And maybe both She and Aziraphale will learn that sometimes to love means to let go.

I'm happy that the "Helen is of Sparta, not Troy" post is getting seen and people are giving love to her as they should but I'm getting a wee bit frustrated by the Menelaus inclusion with the whole "She was a possession to others and never had a choice".
Yes, Helen is a victim of fate and multiple horrible circumstances. She gets kidnapped by Theseus and Paris. So much blame is being put on her when she really isn't at fault and doesn't have much choice.
A choice she made though? WAS MENELAUS!
The Oath of Tyndareus was all about how "If you want to have a chance of marrying her, you have to swear to respect her and her choice and defend their marriage if it's needed".
If anything, Menelaus was her "prize"! Not the other way around!!! And they are clearly shown caring for one another!!! uyfuygluhyutfugy

One of the key things about Wei Wuxian's dynamic with Madam Yu is that even after everything he deeply deeply respects her. And in fandom I very often see people change that into something a lot more negative because they think his feelings need to be "corrected" into something more "appropiate" for the woman who abused him
And I do get it. It can be deeply cathartic to finally let yourself think badly of your abuser, especially if you were made to feel like you owed them something. So of course people are going to explore such a thing in fanfiction. But I do think that you lose something very interesting if you decide that he didn't care about her.
Wangxian's first two marriage bows are in front of her spirit tablet and Wei Wuxian openly says she should consider one of them the bow to the father and mother, essentially claiming her and Jiang Fengmian both as his family. He's so shocked and offended by the idea of attacking Jiang Cheng in front of them that it pushed him over the edge of exhaustion and he fainted.
Mind you all of this is after the scene with the tree where he let Lan Wangji catch him, a moment meant to symbolize Wei Wuxian accepting himself as worthy of protection and help. Even after that realization, he still respects her. And Lan Wangji sits with him. Lan Wangji, who certainly has no qualms about hating people who've mistreated Wei Wuxian, nonetheless lights incense and bows to her and Jiang Fengmian's tablets with him, because if nothing else he accepts the respect Wei Wuxian has for her.
Look, all I'm saying is that of the two people who heard Yu Ziyuan's last request before her death only one of them listened to her and it wasn't Jiang cheng!

Well, if anything good came out of the shitshow that was House of the Dragon Season 2, it's that all the family-oriented Team Green headcanons that were lovingly written by those who stan Alicent and her children have been blown to smithereens.
"Alicent loves her babies! Here's an essay on how she--"
Alicent continuously tries to sue for peace even though she actively prepared her sons to war against the sister who was supposedly going to kill them, Alicent sees Aemond (her favorite little Hightower) as a monster who usurped her role as Regent, Alicent pities Aegon at best and is hatefully indifferent towards him at worse, Alicent only sees Cole as a means to indulge in her weird obsession for Rhaenyra, Alicent is single-handedly responsible for her daughter's unhappiness (marrying Helaena off to Aegon, forcing a crown she never wanted upon her head, and dragging her into a one-sided feud that spun out of control), Alicent threw her own sons under the bus when she snuck to Dragonstone to sue for peace and beg Rhaenyra, the woman Alicent swore would be a threat to her children, to run away with her. It just proves that it was never about "protecting" her babies from their "evil" older sister...this drama started over hurt feelings and envy and was extremely one-sided because Rhaenyra barely retaliated.
"B-but Daemon--"
At this point, it's safe to say that he never thought of his older brother's children until shit hit the fan and Lucerys was murdered. Daemon never thought about the Targtowers at all and only reacted when he found out that his brother died, his body left to rot, and his stepson murdered at the hands of his brother's son. If Daemon didn't think about his brother's children then, he is now because he has his own family to protect and avenge.
