A Crazy Day at Miku Expo
A Vocaloid shitpost story
Warnings: swearing, contains Kaito x Meiko
Chapter 1
It was a normal day in the Cryptonloid household, like always. It was 12pm and Meiko was already up because she’s a normal person.
“GET UP YOU IDIOTS WE HAVE TO LEAVE FOR MIKU EXPOOO!!!!” she woke the rest of the Cryptonloids up as she was a thoughtful person.
“OH SHIT I FORGOT!!” Miku screamed. Her hair looked like Chuckie Finster from Rugrats but had a much larger mass.
“WAIT WHAT THE FUCK WE’RE PERFORMING TONIGHT?!!? PLS NOOOOO I HAVE A PIMPLE!!!” Len cried.
Miraculously, all of them had somehow forgotten that they had a Miku Expo concert in the mystical country of Hajarputa that night. Except for Meiko, because she was a responsible person.
Once they were done packing and getting ready, they went into their private Miku jet which was covered with Miku faces and had big words that said “HATSUNE MIKU” because Miku is the best and owns the world.
Inside, ‘World is Mine’ was playing on loop and the wall was covered in Miku wallpaper and posters. Meiko sat on a Miku couch at the front, because Meiko is queen and is obviously the sexiest one. Kaito, being the simp that he is, sat next to her.
Luka went all the way to the back of the Miku jet and sat in a Miku chair in the corner, away from everyone else as she was tired of everyone’s bullshit.
Miku and the demonic twins were in the middle, just jumping around and throwing shit everywhere as they were still high as fUCK from the FRUIT loops they ate for breakfast.
Suddenly, ‘World is Mine’ stopped playing, and the pilot made an announcement through the plane intercom. Or whatever it’s called lmao I don’t know.
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome onboard Flight Miku. We will be taking off from Sapporo to Hajarputa. I am Sonic the Hedgehog and I am your pilot for today. Just kidding bitch, my name is actually うんち(‘Jonathan Harris’ in Japanese). We are expected to reach Hajarputa in about 22 hours. I swear to God, PLEASE put on your seatbelts or you’re gonna fucking die. We also ask that you ensure your seats are in the upright position for take-off, if not you’ll fucking die. Please turn off all personal electronic devices, if not you’ll fucking die as well. Don’t smoke too, cause you’ll get lung cancer and fucking die. Thank you for choosing Miku Airlines. Enjoy your flight. I definitely will not crash this plane. I swear.”
'World is Mine’ was back playing on loop again.
“Well that was comforting,” Meiko said, being a sarcastic piece of shit.
“Lol what? I don’t remember hiring this man,” Miku said. “Lol, whatever,” she shrugged.
Some time after the Miku Jet took off, Kaito and Meiko started fighting over what they would name their non-existent kid that they would never have.
“If she’s a girl, Sakura is the best name!! It represents beauty and optimism,” Kaito said.
“It also represents death,” Meiko argued. “And who the fuck names their kid after a plant? Enaado is the best name!!”
“The fuck kinda name is Enaado?” Len, who was seated far away from them, muttered to himself. Meiko, who was somehow able to hear him, pulled a super soaker gun out of nowhere and squirted him all the way from the other end of the plane.
Some hours later, the vocaloids were bored as heck and ‘World is Mine’ playing on loop was driving them to insanity(except for Miku of course).
“Can you turn that shit off, Miku? I swear to God, if I hear “sekai de ichiban ohime-sama” one more damn time, my internal organs are going to explode,” Luka said, smashing her head against the wall.
“Geez, fine, Luka! You don’t have to be so mean about it, it’s not my fault you don’t know how to appreciate good art,” Miku rolled her eyes, then she changed the song to ‘Popipo’ on loop, which was probably 100x worse.
“YOU’RE my sekai de ichiban ohime-sama, Me-chan~<3” Kaito UwU-ed. She smacked him with a magazine.
Another time skip, Miku wanted to play truth or dare lmao. Luka, Miku and the twins sat in a circle and started playing.
“Oh yeah, by the way, Mei-nee and Kai-nii are in the game too,” Miku said.
“Wtf no thanks,” Meiko immediately said, not looking up from her magazine about self control & anger management.
“No, you can’t escape, Mei-nee,” Miku replied, staring intensely into her soul. She then got a piece of rope out of nowhere and tied Meiko and Kaito to their chairs.
“TRUTH OR DARE, MEI-NEE?” Miku asked, her eye twitching.
“Ugh, fine. Truth,” Meiko replied, as she had no other choice.
Meanwhile, Kaito was having Vietnam war flashbacks as Miku tying him to the chair reminded him of that one time he got kidnapped by Sonic the Hedgehog. (An event that happened in my other fanfic that I’m not going to post.)
“Do you want to make out with Kai-nii?” Miku asked with a stupid shitty grin on her face.
“What the fuck? Oh, HELL NO. I think I already know how this is gonna go,” Meiko muttered.
“AnSwEr tHe qUeStiOn!!!” Miku yelled impatiently, flipping the fucking table.
“Dare!” Meiko quickly said, sweating.
“I dare you to make out with Kai-nii,” Miku said, raising her eyebrows up and down like fucking Mr. Bean.
Upon hearing this, Kaito’s attention was caught and he snapped out of his Vietnam war flashbacks.
“GODDAMN IT!!” Meiko cursed.
“Oh my GOD, Kaito. Don’t give me THAT look,” Meiko said, terrified for her life as she noticed Kaito looking at her with considerable interest.
“Why the hell did you give that dare, Miku? Literally NO ONE wants to see that shit,” Len said, staring judgingly at Miku. He definitely did not have to see his parents smashing their faces together.
“Yeah, Len’s right,” Luka said. “Aight, Imma head out. Bye bitches,” she flipped her fabulous long hair and strolled out elegantly. Once she reached her seat at the far corner of the plane, she opened her laptop and looked at images of the Gingerbread Man from Shrek.
“Shut up Len and just watch the show!” Rin, who was just as delusional as Miku, scolded.
“MEIKOUT MEIKOUT MEIKOUT MEIKOUT MEIKOUT” the crazy girls started chanting.
I’m so sorry
I really have no idea where this shitty fanfic is going
TIME SKIP LOL
It was nighttime and the Cryptonloids were sleeping in their beds with Miku blankets and ‘Popipo’ was still playing on loop. Suddenly, the Miku Jet started shaking really hard, then everyone flew out of their beds and hit their heads on the ceiling. After a few seconds, the Miku Jet stopped shaking and everyone fell back to the ground.
“Heh heh, sorry folks. Just a little air turbulence is all,” Pilot うんち announced.
“What the actual FUCK?? “A ‘liTtLE’ aIR tUrBuLeNcE” he said!! I don’t think we should be entrusting that guy with our LIVES!!” Meiko seethed. “I’m going to have a word with him.” she stormed off to the Pilot’s cabin.
“Wait Me-chan, I’ll come too,” Kaito said, and tagged along with her for extra support because he was a good boyfriend.
Once they reached the Pilot’s cabin, she slid open the door and shouted “LISTEN UP, MISTER, DO YOUR DAMN JOB PROPERLY!!”
“Oh, Meiko-san, hello!” the pilot spun his chair around and smiled. “Oh, Kaito, you’re here too! How’s it going, buddy? Has Sonic been bothering you any more?”
Meiko and Kaito’s eyes widened as they realised who the pilot was.
“FUKASE??!!!!” they screamed in shock. His Ronald Mcdonald hair was unmistakable.
“No, I’m うんち. Who the hell is Fukase?” うんち/Fukase said.
“WHY ARE YOU FLYING A PLANE, FUKASE??!! AREN’T YOU LIKE, FOURTEEN?!??!!!” Meiko screamed.
“Uh, no, I’m fifteen. Also, the age of consent in Japan is thirteen, sooo I don’t see any problem with it,” he replied.
“WHAT THE HELL DOES AGE OF CONSENT HAVE TO DO WITH FLYING A PLANE???!!” Meiko screamed, ripping her hair out. I really need to stop using scream.
"Umm… with all due respect, Fukase, are you even qualified for this?” Kaito spoke up.
“Yeah, DUH. I’ve had years worth of flight experience from Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Xbox!” he replied. “What kinda dumb shit would hire someone who ISN’T qualified??”
“oH mAN OH GOD OUR LIVES ARE IN THE HANDS OF THAT DUMB KID OH MAN OH GOD OH MAN OH GOD OH MAN OH GOD-“ Meiko was hyperventilating in the corner and hugging her legs, sweat pouring down her face. It was unlike her to freak out like this, she was usually calm and kept her cool. However, this is Fukase we’re talking about, and any rational person would be freaking out and fearing for their lives.
“Breathe, Me-chan, breathe,” Kaito attempted to calm her down. “Don’t worry, okay? Everything’s gonna be just fine. Nothing bad will happen. Everything is okay,” he assured her, hugging her tightly.
“How would YOU know that???” she asked.
“I don’t,” he replied. “When things get rough, denial is all we have,” he said, giving his Stupid Bakaito Grin™.

Can a dream change the world?
Can a song awaken the soul?
Does our universe truly have limits?
Why am I asking all of these questions?
We all each have a story.
We all matter.
If we all join together, how big of a miracle can we create?
The story of Resonate unfolds...

Queen Rainbow’s Point of View
In a world where color was scarce... wonder was draining from people’s souls, and warmth was fading from their hearts. The warmth in their smiles were waning... And soon enough, they weren’t able to truly smile any longer.
This world... was called Monochrome.
Being the furthest planet in its solar system from the sun, Monochrome was already quite a lonely place. But everything froze over when Obsidian stepped to the throne.
Monochrome was a painfully boring place, filled with progressively more boring people. It got to the point where the most boring, bitter person of all would automatically be crowned as royalty.
Her name was Obsidian, and she became the Queen of Misery. She did not believe in fun, happiness, or love. Her heart was made of coal. When she breathed out, thick black smoke would fill the air, despite her never being a smoker.
Queen Obsidian’s very existence would always pollute the air with negativity and gloom that would make people lose hope. She was so boring, that her presence would transform sugary donuts into regular old bagels with nothing on them. She was so boring, that her royal fanfare was played on a single off-key kazoo. She was so utterly dull, that she even sent Planet Monochrome into a thousand-year-long ice age after telling one terrible joke.
But worse than all that combined, the Queen of Misery was a selfish, spiteful, and joyless person.
Nobody exactly knew why, but Queen Obsidian hated music... Possibly because of how positive and fun it could potentially be, not to mention the sheer raw emotion and vibes it could could convey.
One day, Queen Obsidian heard a song. It was awful. She hated it so much, that she ordered it to be sent to the Nowhere Of Permanent Erasure Void, or “NOPE Void” for short, where it would be deleted from our reality.
Queen Obsidian wanted to erase all the universe’s music from existence this way, and for people to never make or listen to it again. Ever.
Knowing that Monochrome barely had any worthwhile tunes to get rid of, Obsidian began to target the music on other worlds.
And what better place to start than the magical, colorful planet known as Whimsica?
Whimsica, a charming, fittingly whimsical world filled with magic... It may ideally be peaceful, yet we’ve been attacked by Monochrome for years just for being so idyllic. Apparently, our bright, rainbow colors that can be seen from space are an eyesore for them.
This is also where I come in.
My name is Queen Rainbow... and I’m the Queen of Whimsica. I’m only 16 years old, which is... actually pretty old for a monarch of Whimsica, believe it or not!
Whimsica’s monarchs are usually children nowadays! That’s because we have a childish kind of “whimsy” in our hearts and an arcane sort of innocence to see the world through rainbow-tinted lenses.
A long time in the past, Whimsica had a very strict older queen who forbid the royals, even the ones in the future, from ever befriending commoners.
That queen used a spell, so if a royal was caught being friends with a commoner, they would fall into a long slumber. The length of how long they would sleep corresponded to how strong the royal‘s bond was to the commoner.
Recently, the spell was broken, however! So now I can befriend and hang out with all the common folk I want. To be honest, being that kind of queen wasn’t so great, it was a little lonely, and I always hated feeling so unapproachable... and responsible!
Well, to tell the truth, the eldest of the three princess sisters actually does most of the work. 18-year-old Celestine is the responsible and proper eldest sister. Lunette, age 16, is the middle sister, and a bit mischievous. The youngest sister is 14-year-old Stelle, and she... well... is a bit of a problem child.
Anyway. I had proposed a new course of action against what Monochrome is trying to do. The princess sisters and I, along with Celestine’s best friend Nikamowin, and even the two royal anthromorph cats, Sparkle and Twinkle, have been using our magical powers the best we could to fight against Monochrome’s Queen and royal force, and the monsters they use against us.
But I still feel we need more help. We need the help of magical musicians.
I’ve been beginning to practice making music so I could harness its positive energy and make my songs into magic that can defeat Monochrome’s negativity. Nikamowin is also a skilled singer and can use songs to help us, but I still feel we need to power of more music.
So I assigned a job to Sparkle and Twinkle. Their job now is to look for passionate musicians with pure hearts, who are interested in joining our force to help save music for the entire universe...

Haku Yowane’s Point of View
Location: Earth
I zipped up my backpack to the faint scent of dust around the house, tied my shoes, wiped my long bangs from my eyes, and got ready to step out the door to go to school. Another gray day.
Even though I didn’t live with her, my world felt so empty now. My heart felt so hollow.
It was the little things.
Rain pattering on the roof... once a cozy and quaint sound... now just a gloomy and sad reminder.
An old notebook... once a source of joy and closeness... now just cold and distant.
A stuffed cat... warm and beloved... now even more well-loved, and irreplaceable.
All these things I saw right before I left my house to go to school reminded me of her.
My grandmother.
She passed away three weeks ago.
Right before I began opening my door, I looked back, and saw Snowbell, the plush cat Grandma gifted me long ago, eyeing me gently from my table.
I decided I couldn’t go to school without Snowbell. I couldn’t leave her alone.
I picked up the well-loved plush and hugged her gently and sadly, and made my way out the door with her.
Snowbell was special to me.
At the age of five, I was quite meek and lonely, with a reddish nose and wobbly knees. I would catch colds often, and constantly be sniffling, which was how I earned the nickname “Sniffles”.
I was a bit odd. I had strange habits such as pretending I were a cat, even lapping milk out of a bowl at snack time. I liked to draw pictures and play make-believe at recess. I didn’t like strangers or crowds.
In school, I was usually scared and overwhelmed. Once during indoor play time, I sat in my own little corner away from everyone and drew on the walls. When my teacher found the drawings I had drawn on the walls, I got scolded. I spent the rest of the day crying and sniffling, not understanding why I was yelled at.
That was when my grandmother decided my imagination was just too big for such a little girl, so she bought me a friend, a stuffed white kitten, to talk to.
My grandma told me that Snowbell was a special friend, and she was always there to listen. So when I was sad, I would hug and talk to Snowbell and felt I wasn’t alone.
Snowbell was there for me through the good days, and the many bad days... She was there when I graduated kindergarten. She was also there shortly after, when I was six years old, when my parents divorced...
Before my parents divorced, my brother Dell and I were very close. He was technically my half-brother. My father, who I was never close with, already divorced a former wife before marrying my mother. Dell was the son of my father and his former wife. His last name was Honne, his father’s last name. My last name is Yowane, my mother’s last name.
Dell and I would always play and sing together. Even though I was clumsy and fail at his games sometimes, he was very patient and would comfort me when I cried. Sometimes my dad would randomly yell at or scold me. When that happened, Dell would always stand up to my dad and protect me. Even when my parents were fighting and yelling so loudly that I got scared, Dell and I would hide together and he would comfort me. He was truly an amazing brother.
However, when my mother and father divorced, my father insisted on taking us with him. My mother refused to let him take us. There was a huge custody battle over us, and eventually, a heartbreaking compromise was made.
Dell was going to go with my father. I was going to stay with my mother.
I just wanted us to stay together. But in the end, we couldn’t.
One morning after sleeping in, I went downstairs to see around half the furniture in the house gone and my father outside in the moving van. My dad was about to leave. He left me without saying goodbye.
But Dell... He waited until I woke up so he could say goodbye before leaving. I cried with such intensity that he turned around. His face right then shocked me. He was seven years old... but had such a grown-up expression on his face... I had never seen such an look on his face before. So much pain... yet so accepting of his fate.
He hugged me one last time without any words, until I stopped crying. Once my tears stopped, he pat my head, and made his way out the door.
I never saw my brother, my best friend, ever again.
Two years passed. I turned eight years old. My mother, now single, talking to her sister, had an idea.
My mother’s sister had a daughter, who would be my cousin. My mom noticed that without Dell, I was very lonely lately. So she proposed to my cousin and I to meet.
My cousin’s name was Miku Hatsune. She was six years old at the time. The same age I was when my parents divorced. The first thing I noticed about Miku was how cheerful she was, and how accepting she was towards me. I quickly became friends with her, and even though she came over only around once a month and I only got to see her those times, we were really close friends.
The day we first met, we played in the backyard. I was still very shy and awkward at the time.
A butterfly landed on a flower nearby, and Miku urged me to try and touch it. I did, and the butterfly flew away.
I instantly burst into tears.
“Why?” I said, through my tears. “Why does everyone leave me? Like Dell? And my dad? Why...?”
“Don’t cry, Haku...” Miku pat my head to try to cheer me up. It reminded me of when Dell pat my head to say goodbye... it kind of calmed me down.
To cheer me up even more, Miku began singing me a song. She taught it to me, and I began to sing it with her.
We began to sing together, and soon enough, we were surrounded by butterflies. We began smiling and laughing. It was a great memory.
“Miku?” I looked at her fondly. “Promise me you won’t ever leave me, okay?”
“Okay!” Miku answered, smiling.
But one day, around three years later...
My mother called her sister as usual... and every single trace of her, her husband, Miku, and even Miku’s little sister Mizu, had vanished without a trace.
When I heard this, I was devastated. I began to wait a little while... but soon it became apparent that Miku and her family were gone... maybe in a freak accident or disappearance... and weren’t ever coming back.
I remember sitting under a tree, and just crying.
After that, I really only had my grandmother. My mom was always kind of distant and neglected me emotionally.
My grandmother, however, was warm and understanding. She was also very fun and always made me smile. She was the most magical person I ever knew, because she always told me amazing stories. Sometimes I wondered how she even thought of them. I always told her perhaps she should become a writer and make them into books.
I was inspired to become a writer myself because of her. I used many of her stories as inspiration, because I thought she needed a lot of recognition. She also always wanted to be a musician, and so did I, but I was always much too shy. My grandmother couldn’t pursue music because of her health condition and age, sadly.
Now that she’s passed, I think I will try to fulfill my grandmother’s dreams in homage to her.
Thinking of these memories may have left me sad... but I’ll at least always have the precious memories of these people in my heart, even though I may never see them again. In memory of them, may I live my every day to my fullest.

MMS 194: JOURNAL
Beginning this journal with the ultimate art question of "What does art mean to you?"
I liked what Thomas McEvilley, professor of art history in Rice University said, "The last time I was in Houston, I went to a place called Media Center, where someone had set up posts as in a back yard with laundry hung all over. I immediately knew it was an artwork because of where it was. If I had seen it hanging in someone's yard, I would not have known whether it was art, though it might have been. It is art if it is called art, written about in an art magazine, exhibited in a museum or bought by a private collector.".
To continue with his point, "What's hard for people to accept is that issues of art are just as difficult as issues of molecular biology; you cannot expect to open up a page on molecular biology and understand it. This is the hard news about art that irritates the public. if people are going to be irritated by that, they just have to be irritated by that.".
Something I also find meaningful to this most asked question is perfectly worded by Arthur Danto from Art critic of The Nation, he says, "You can't say something's art or not art anymore. That's all finished. There used to be a time when you could pick out something perceptually the way you can recognize, say, tulips or giraffes. But the way things have evolved, art can look like anything, so you can't tell by looking. Criteria like the critic's good eye no longer apply. Art these days has very little to do with esthetic responses; it has more to do with intellectual responses. You have to project a hypothesis: Suppose it is a work of art? Then certain questions come into play -- what's it about, what does it mean, why was it made, when was it made and with respect to what social and artistic conversations does it make a contribution? If you get good answers to those questions, it's art. Otherwise it turned out just to be a hole in the ground."
And as a religious type of person I find this short saying from Robert Hughes striking. He says, "The Puritans thought of religious art as a form of idolatry, a luxury a distraction, morally questionable in its essence, compared to the written and spoken word.”.
From here you can see the art differences from Catholics, Orthodox, and the many many denominations of Protestantism. I guess growing up in the Philippines most art I experience is about the religious if not historical. It's always been my dream to visit France and Rome to come and see all the "art" people are identifying as but as society moves forward with nano technology, we can see many forms of Computational Art.
For example are the three below...
Digital illustrations, sounds cool right? Well, I was thinking of Digital Kinetic Art at first but I couldn't find an artist that purely does a digital version, so I had to look for other options until I finally found this amazing artist named Sean Charmatz. He was born on August 28, 1980, in San Diego, California. He is an animator of Spongebob Squarepants, LEGO Movie 2, and Trolls. He spent several years as a writer, artist, and storyboard director for the television show Nickelodeon. He also shared his digital art talents with the companies like Dreamworks and Disney.
He is making the mundane normal ordinary things as something worth looking at, with a story to portray from scratch!!! Looking into his art, I don't know if I have a bias reason because I grew up watching Spongebob and I really like the show and other types of cartoons too like "The Adventure Time", "Princess Sophia", "Barbie Movies", "Dora the Explorer", "The Amazing World of Gumball", and the like. It's something I find pleasurable as a younger child (actually until now, but I don't have the leisure time I used to have), and as I see his newest digital illustrations, I can't help but be in awe and smile with a childlike smirk. I might do something like this as he inspired me to make the mundane objects into something fun with a cool story to tell.
Especially now during pandemic, and everyone is asked to stay indoors and minimize social interactions at most. We should be creative to learn in entertaining ourselves and making the most of our everyday situations. He is truly inspiring, and maybe with the practice I'll do, I might be able to make cute short children's comics for the next generation.
Here are some of his recent digital illustrations,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving from visuals let's talk about our hearing, let's talk about Generative Music. Majority of my life I've been listening to Pop songs and classical ones, usually made the traditional way 100% human, learning about this algorithm or computer composed type of music is a bit odd for me because it feels technical and numbers complicated, in a way distant and out of touch. Computers are a recent invention by the human race, so we can understand why more and more innovations related to it are still growing everyday, a lot of people who doesn't see it's importance will be left behind and soon enough more and more generative music art will enter the music scene, digital divide will be inevitable.
This type of music scene is "experimental" as it's unknown to a lot of possibilities and very different from the traditional music producers and artists, we still don't know how will it click, is it a fad or here to stay? I'm not sure, but I think more types of sounds will be incorporated in music, specially in movies and other types of effects if it doesn't get popularity in the music industry.
Hatsune Miku, the first ever open-source singer is having popularity around people specially those who like anime and the things of its kind. Only this year I was able to discover this type of music scene and I never expected that Hatsune Miku Youtube music has millions and millions of viewers and subscribers. Music analysis software exists that can predict hits with increasing accuracy, and Google Labs have an ersatz neural network up and running that can make convincing music. Along with all the other jobs currently being destroyed by automation, it looks like the most human of all – music – is under threat.
Tumblr media
To move forward let’s go back in 2017, I liked this guy from the College of Business Administration and he is one of those cool distant type of guy who gives this big mystery vibe, and what do you do when someone is mysterious? You stalk them online, so I did and that's how I found out about "hello poetry". I didn't know digital poetry actually has a term, a name but I knew it has a community online, which is cool because you can make an online library and records of all your poems easily accessible online if you're into this thing. I actually joined the platform "hello poetry" after reading a ton about my crush's online poems, in a way I was inspired. Once you join it's nice to see other poets about their works, what others are raving about, and sometimes judge inevitably although some are very beautiful others are also unconventionally short and seems like a tweet. This category of art can fall on art & literature which is something purely human, well as of now. Soon enough computers will be able to make their own poems, maybe there already is.
Here's a link to my first and only poem I published in the community, https://hellopoetry.com/fleomae/

An Idol in Teal, Chapter 1
Hey guys. I wanted to ask you something. I wrote this years ago, and I’m only just finding it now, nostalgia hitting me, me crying like a little baby (kind of lol). If you have the time to read this, tell me what you think of it, and feedback is greatly appreciated. I am trying to be a journalist, and by writing like this, I think it will help me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Miku, we’re ready for your mic check,” yelled Luka from backstage. The pink haired beauty trotted over to the audio panel.
“Hai! One sec!” said the teal haired diva. She picked up a microphone and walked onto stage. She looked at the empty seats that would be filled up within the hour. Every time she got up on stage, she felt as if her stomach had butterflies in it. She wanted nothing more than to sing to her heart’s content to her loyal fans.
“Luka, ready when you are!” Miku yelled towards backstage. The microphone made a humming noise, indicating that Luka had heard Miku’s request. Miku took a deep breath and sighed into the microphone.
“Hey Luka, if you can hear me, isn’t this crazy? I mean we’re just two average girls who flew halfway across the world to the most famous city in the world. Actually, forget that. TO THE USA! Who would have ever thought I would be doing some kind of mini World Tour like this. It’s surreal. Also, pardon my language I’m just really happy about all of this! Thinking about my life, it’s been such a roller coaster. I’ve had my ups, my downs, my blackouts, my fights, but most importantly, I’m doing what I love. I couldn’t be happier right now.” Miku sat down on the edge of the stage and standing behind her was Luka, who sat down next to the girl with the pigtails.
“Well, you ARE Hatsune Miku you idiot. Everyone loves you. Seriously, what’s up with that? You know I joined your little “group” just so I could get more famous than you.” She sneered and tilted her head away from Miku, who just snickered in response.
“How is this my fault?” Miku giggled. “You WANTED to join me. If I remember correctly, you were all “MIKU LET ME JOIN AND DO A SONG WITH YOU I CAN PROVE IM A BETTER SINGER THAN YOU!” Man, the tears that were rolling down your face was too funny.” She continued to laugh, which just angered Luka.
“Listen you little shit, you wouldn’t be where you are today, and you owe me!” She scowled at Miku. Miku stared up at the ceiling, as if this was some magical anime moment where something sentimental was about to happen. That or a wind would come out of nowhere and over exaggerate the whole scene.
“You’re absolutely correct. I wouldn’t. Not without you, without Len and Rin, Meiko and Kaito. Even the other Vocaloids like Gumi and IA and Yukari. All of you have taught me so much….” She placed her face into her palms. Tears formed at the edge of her eyes. Thinking about all of this caused her to become emotional, and the only one she could really cry in front of besides her mother, was Luka.
“Miku, please don’t cry.” She wrapped her arms around Miku and stroked her hair.
“Everyone’s moved on with their lives. I mean, I know Gumi and IA are around for me still, and there’s the other up and coming Vocaloids, but I miss the original crew. And soon, how do I know that I you’ll still be around Luka? Everyone else left, so how do I know that you’ll still be around. Why am I even thinking about this right now? I shouldn’t be crying over the past…..” She continued to sob as Luka hugged her.
“This is the life of an idol. It’s the life YOU chose. You have to take the good with the bad, and turn it into something positive. You’re creative, you’re talented, and you’re amazingly perfect in every way Miku.” Luka blushed.
“Are you…trying to hit on me or….?” Miku wiped away her tears and glanced up at Luka, curiously. Her eyes were like kaleidoscopes. They glimmered in the stage light due to the leftover tears still engulfed in her eyes. Luka retaliated and pushed Miku away, her words and face flustered.
“Idiot, what are you saying?!?”
‘I’m saying that you’re hitting on me. Do you want to be lesbian lovers? I mean, I’m cool with that and all, and if we are, I’m glad it’s you.” Miku gave no hesitation in her answer, speaking almost as if it sounded believable.
“MIKU HATSUNE WHAT THE HELL?!”
“I dunno, just a thought.”
“Miku, you know you’re like a sister to me right?”
“Ah, friendzoned, the classic.”
Luka sighed and stood up. “Come back to me when you’ve gotten more mature.”
“NO LUKA DON’T LEAVE ME IN MY TIME OF NEED!” She pounced on Luka like a cat and clinged to her waist.”
“GET OFF OF ME! How do you go from happy, to sad, and now to excited?? You are so weird Miku it’s not even funny…..”
“Heh heh, excited.”
“OH GROW UP BITCH.” She stormed off the stage, returning to her dress up counter backstage. Miku scratched her head and yelled towards the backstage.
“NO LUKA COME LOVE ME!” but Luka ignored her. “Seriously, I was just trying to cheer myself up.” Miku looked around once more at the empty ballroom. “I never noticed how pretty Hammerstein is. New York City itself is gorgeous, but there are also the people that give me the creeps.” Goosebumps trailed down her shoulders and a she shuddered.
“Luka is right though, I choose the idol life.” She hopped off stage and towards the back entrance of the ballroom, where hundreds of fans would rush into soon to see her perform. She peaked through the little crack in the door to see if the coast was clear to venture around. It was empty. Slowly, she pushed open the door, which creaked slightly. She walked into the hall, where her merchandise stand was still on display.
“I want a hat of me.” She took the hat out of the box behind the counter, and put it on. She proceeded to take out her phone and open the front facing camera.
“Haha, selfie time.” Just as she was about to snap the picture, a tall figure stood behind her.
“What do you think you’re doing?” said the tall figure, his voice deep and intimidating.
“Umm, selfie time?” Said Miku jokingly.
“What’s with the hat?” He pointed to Miku’s head.
“Ummmm, I’m wearing myself? You know I’m Hatsune Miku right??”
“How do I know that?”
“Wanna check my ID?” She searched for her wallet, which she couldn’t find. “Oh damn I must have left it back stage.”
“Uh huh. Come with me missy.” He snatched the hat from her head and threw it back in the box.
“IM SERIOUS! IM HATSUNE MIKU!!” She screamed, but almost immediately covered her hand with her mouth. She didn’t want the crowd outside to hear her. Who knows what would happen if they found out that Hatsune Miku was live and unguarded. The thought made her fear for her life. She loved her fans and all, but with the good also comes that bad, and she didn’t want to meet the bad.
“I’ll give you one chance to prove it. How do I know you’re REALLY Miku?” The tall figure, who was actually one of the bodyguards from the ballroom, folded his hands across his chest and sneered at her.
“Dude, seriously? Wipe that weird look off your face. It’s creeping me out.” She took out her phone again and dialed a number.
“You’re lucky I’m giving you a chance, don’t tempt me lady.” The phone started ringing and a familiar voice was on the other line.
“Hello?” said the familiar voice.
“OH GOOD LUKA! Thank you for picking up!”
“Huh? Miku? What’s going on? Where are you? Did you get yourself into trouble again?
“E GASP LUKA! Why I never! Why would you accuse me on such grounds?”
“Because I KNOW you Miku. You always wander about and do stupid things and then I come bail you out like always.” She sighed and Miku knew she was facepalming by the “smack” noise that she heard on the other line. “What do you need me to do now, Hime-sama Miku??”
“Here’s the story. So I wanted to get my mind off of what we were discussing before. I strolled around and took a look outside. I got curious about my merchandise here and took one of my own hats and baldy here caught me and is accusing me of grand larceny and I need you to come here and prove to him that I’m Hatsune Miku and not some fan with a wig before he throws me in the slammer and makes me clean bathrooms for a living, okay? Okay. Thanks hun. Love you!”
“Baldy?!” said the bodyguard. Miku chuckled nervously.
“Not happening,” said Luka.
“WAIT? EH!? WHY NOT!?” Miku went into a panic frenzy.
“Because you said we were lesbian lovers and I do not approve against some heinous accusations.” She was about to hang up, but Miku’s constant pleas were annoying Luka, and she eventually succumbed to temptation.
“FINE. Holy shit, shuddup!” Luka screamed and Miku had to pull the phone away from her ear since Luka screamed so loud she might blow her eardrum off.
“Heh heh, you’re picking up a New York accent. I think it’s sexy. Rarwl.” She bursted into laughter but there was no one on the other side of the line. Luka had hung up.
“Huh? Hey? Luka? Luuukkkkkaaaa? DON’T LEAVE ME IM TOO YOUNG TO DIE IN PRISON!” Miku got onto her knees and held out her hands. “Take me away coppa I’ve been a bad girl.” He grabbed her arm and picked her up.
“I know that voice anywhere. That’s the real Luka. And you’re the real Miku. I’m sorry for accusing you….” He bowed his head.
“It’s no worries. I just didn’t want to be cooped up in that ballroom. I mean, it’s beautiful and all, but I really want to explore New York City. I’ve been here before in 2014 when I did my first ever show here, but was confined to a very tight schedule filled with guest appearances and photo shoots and I really never got time to spend alone in the city, ya know? Man, guess I’m picking up your accents huh?”
The bodyguard handed Miku her hat back. “But don’t you have a show soon? You can’t disappoint your fans can you?”
“No, I meant after my two shows here. Sadly, I’m departing from here tomorrow morning. I can still spend one more night here. I always wanted to know what a Saturday night in New York City feels like, but since my show lets out late just like in 2014, I don’t think I’ll have time to.” She slouched her shoulders. “Man, I need a vacation.” Interested in her story, the bodyguard walked towards the ballroom doors.
“They’ll be letting people in soon. About an hour right?” He looked at his watch. It’s 12:30. VIP ticket holders are about to enter. And you’re show starts and 1:30, but you have someone else as your opening act, correct?
Miku nodded. “Yeah, Anamanaguchi, so what?”
“Well,” the bodyguard continued, “that means you won’t start until about 2:15-2:30 since your show initially starts at around 1:30. Since concerts never start on time, we’ll say around 1:45. I’d love to hear about your backstory.”
Miku was shocked. Never once has someone been curious about what her childhood was like and all the struggles it took to get here. A small smile crossed her face and she was really happy. She had so much pent up energy and she wanted to rant but no one would ever listen to her.
“But why?” Miku asked curiously.
“Honestly, to kill time,” the bodyguard said straightforwardly.
“Thanks….” Miku said sarcastically.
“Not only that, but I never get to do shows with idols like you. Most here are stuck up and crazy. But you, I can tell you’re not like that, and deep down, you’re caring and have a lot of sympathy for the ones around you. You’re different.” Miku’s smile was obvious now, and she started tearing up again.
“I haven’t heard someone talk about me like that in a long time that’s not named Luka or my mom. Thank you, er, what’s your name?” She looked around for some kind of ID, a nametag specifically, but found nothing.
“You can call me Jasper,” the bodyguard said.
“OOOH, cool name, and you already know mine,” she giggled. Jasper stood up and pointed upstairs. Come on, I know a place where we can chat quietly. Plus, your fans will be entering soon.” Miku nodded and stood up, following Jasper. They walked up the stairs, and down a long hallway, which led to another flight of stairs. Another hallway soon after led to the upper-most level of the ballroom.
“WOAH! I can see my house from here!” Miku said, jokingly. “But wait; won’t fans be coming here also soon??”
“Yes, in about a half an hour, but we’re not staying here, follow me.” At the back of the upper-most level was a small room, which looked to be some kind of mini-bar that was built into the ballroom. “Come, we can talk here.” Without hesitation, Miku continued to follow along. The room was small and comfy. In the middle was a small bar, filled with all kinds of different assortments of drinks, from kid-friendly such as Coca-Cola and Hi-C to hard liquor like Jack Daniels. Miku could sure use a drink right now.
Surrounding the back of the room were couches with coffee tables. To the inner-most part of the room near the entrance, were small dining tables, no larger than the size of a desk. Jasper directed Miku to one of the tables and sat down.
“We should be fine here. We’re out of sight. If someone comes in, they’re gonna have to look pretty hard at you to see who you are unlike if we sat at the other end of the room where we’re exposed and everyone can see easily.”
“I guess you have a point.” Miku eyed the bar, but knew she would have to wait to guzzle anything down until after her show. She didn’t want to be drunk on stage after all.
“So what do you want to know about me? My name is Hatsune Miku, I’m an idol, I sing, I dance, I do commercials. I’m basically like a puppet that can’t cut its strings loose from this industry.” She folded her hands and sat upright. “I understand I choose this lifestyle, but sometimes it can drain me, both physically and emotionally. I need a break, but I’m doing show after show after show. I’m tired man.”
Jasper looked at Miku not with sympathy, but more of curiosity. “So how goes it?”
“How goes what?” Miku said with one eyebrow up.
“How did the famous Hatsune Miku come to be? What motivated her? What got her in the clear? How did she become “Hatsune Miku?” That is your real name right?”
“YES, that IS my name,” she said sarcastically.
“Sorry, but you know how other singers like to change their names for some reason.”
“Yeah dude I know….They’re dumb. I try not to associate myself with people who are don’t even know their own identity.” Jasper let out a hardy laugh.
“For someone who seems to be so nice, you also have anger issues.” Miku kicked him from under the table and pouted.
“So you really want to know all about me? I guess this is some kind of interview, or oral biography.” Miku nodded her head and folded her arms, smiling confidently.
“Well, here goes. The life of me, the most famous idol, HATSUNE MIKU!”

wait could i have a condensed history of the vocaloids?? if not it's totally chill and i completely understand
OOF i’m really glad you’ve asked that, but i’m not so sure i’m the best person for it!! i’m much better at just dispensing random bits of information, as opposed to really… organizing all i know into any sort of.. chronological order, yenno? lmao but hey, lemme share what i can with you okay!!
first of all, i’ve definitely read one thing that i thought was really freaking cool bc it really dives into the history of voice synth development as a whole. though it really doesn’t focus that much on vocaloid, as it mostly just focuses on what laid down the foundations and paved the way for vocaloid to come into existence in the future. i’d really recommend it if you might be interested in learning that much history!! honestly, it could surprise just how far back voice synthesis goes. 😱 i thought it was a modern thing but it totally isn’t!!! so yeah heres the article for that if you're interested!
buuuut you did say it was vocaloids history you really wanted to know, so in that case, since that doesn’t focus on it too much, heres the official timeline of releases and major vents pertaining to vocaloid straight from the wiki!
wikipedia might also be worth checking out too! heres a link directly to the section about software history.
BUT HEY BEFORE YOU GO, I PROMISE I’M NOT ENTIRELY USELESS OKAY SO LEMME JUST DROP SOME OF THE RANDOM HISTORY TRIVIA IK FOR YA THAT I CAN THINK OF OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD NOW MMK~~~
▪It has been 14 years since Vocaloids initial release. (I actually dont know that off the top of my head, I just ended up skimming that while searching for the articles :o)
▪It has been 18 years since development began. (I didn’t know this either, it just occured to me while fact checking some things lol) From the Wiki timeline I shared, “2000: Kenmochi Hideki began the first developments with a team at the Pompeu Fabra University in Spain.”
▪The first vocaloids were actually English language vocaloids, contrary to what some may believe. Additionally, you should also know, if you don’t already, that Hatsune Miku wasn’t the first Japanese vocaloid either. Meiko was the first female Japanese language vocaloid to be released, and Kaito came next.
▪Before it was decided that the software would be called “Vocaloid” the entire project was codenamed “Daisy,” as reference to the name of the very first song ever sung by a computer in voice-synth history. The songs name was “Daisy Bell” and you can hear it, plus learn a little bit more about it, at this link here~🔹Special bonus, check out this wonderful duet between the original Vocoder (the voice of the original software has been saved and is now useable in the modern day thanks to another software called Chipspeech!) and Cyber Diva! its like listening to Grandfather and Grandaughter sing together haha~
🔹SPECIAL KAITO FACT THATS NOT VERY MAJOR TO ANYTHING but before his name was Kaito, he was called “Taro” (which is the equivalent of a name like “John Smith” in Japanese lol)
▪The very first known use of vocaloid ever was in this song here.Vocaloids Kaito and Meiko were used in this before they had ever been released or announced (so presumably, Kaito was still called “Taro” at this time ww)
▪The first vocaloids did not have characters and were never intended to. This includes Kaito & Meiko. Their original boxart was never meant to be a depiction of them as characters, it was probably just meant to basically advertise the gender of the vocals by depicting a male and female on either package lol.
▪It was not until Crypton began their own “Character Voice” project and started releasing their vocaloids, beginning with the release of Hatsune Miku in 2007, that the idea of creating characters for Vocaloids had really become a thing. If you don’t know already, Crypton Future Media is the company who developed Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin & Len, and Megurine Luka. (They also handle Meiko & Kaito these days and developed their V3 updates, V1 being originally developed by Yamaha themselves.)
aaannnd I feel like the rest of is sort of just, well, history at that point. (: from then on, Vocaloid grew into what it is today, yenno? our beloved singing robot/anime characters and all that good stuff xDD
but for a better more detailed history of this stuff, I do recommend referring to the links I provided. Also!! on the wiki you can even learn about the history for each individual vocaloid themselves. Including neat little facts about their development and everything! it’s voca-history inception haha :D
I hope this information was useful and/or interesting for you~ despite it being kind of messily organized and all that bc i’m just no good at actually making anything i write organizable xD i just dump all my thoughts at once pffft.
but ummm yeah :D i hope you have a lovely and more vocaloid-informed day~ ig idk heheh💕

January 2021
First month of the new year!! Thank fucking GOD that 2020 is finally over, because i have had absolutely enough of that blasted year. it was not an easy month but since i have been knee-deep into danganronpa, i was able to fixate on that just long enough to make it through the month. this month’s picks seem kind eclectic; lots of japanese songs, some darker-themed songs, some old bangers... it seems i was just about everywhere and nowhere at once haha. Here’s to February!!
song this month: 9 + 1 album
Take a Slice - Glass Animals (xxx)
tiktok has a knack of finding really cool bops and beats. after all, it’s where i found this song! the part that gets the biggest rep is the outro but i feel the rest of the song deserves some love too! it’s got a really funky bassline and the instrumentals are nothing i’ve heard before so it definitely caught my attention
Greek Tragedy - The Wombats (xxx)
it actually took me a few listens to really begin enjoying the song. it was out of my typical music taste but i actually quite enjoyed listening to this song! not to mention the music video was quite... something
i actually found this song through the Oliver Nelson Remix (soundcloud/spotify) and can i say this remix is so fucking groovy like jeez, it’s hard not to bop along to the music
Kago no Naka - Masuda Toshio (xxx)
mushishi is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, animes that i have had the honor of watching; very supernatural but also very serene. it features a soundtrack that is absolutely mesmerizing and perfectly encapsulates the tranquility that comes with the series, this piece is no exception. i’d say i highly recommend watching this series if you haven’t already!!
Dancing Queen - ABBA (xxx)
whenever i feel down in the dumps, i always find myself listening to this song at least once. i guess you could say it’s a comfort song of mine. given that the beginning of this month was a very hard and depressive time for me (from a family member getting COVID, emergency hospital visit, and a really bad family spat), i definitely listened to this song a whole bunch. it’s an oldie but definitely a goodie
glow - keeno ft. Hatsune Miku (xxx)
there’s something about all the songs in keeno’s album In the Rain that invoke a sort of comforting melancholy in me and i always catch myself coming back to this song in particular. i’m not sure what it is about this song but the way it progresses, the timbre of Miku’s voice against the seemingly harsh instrumental bring about some sort of pain that comforts me somehow (talk about contradictions). it’s been especially on my mind this month due to the things going on in life rn
Class of 2013 - Mitski (xxx)
is it really a breakdown episode without a Mitski song thrown into the mix? not to me! i recently came across this song after i found that one spotify playlist that ranked mitski songs based on sadness and wow... i love how absolutely raw Mitski’s vocals are in this song and after reading into the nuances of the lyrics just... dang... i felt that shit in my bones
見せかけのラブソング (Fake Love Song) - Indigo la End (xxx)
this song is really nice to listen to! i especially love the vocalist’s gentle, smooth timbre and the instrumentation is sublime! it’s got that chill-esque vibe that makes me keep coming back to listen to it!
Inuyasha Soundtrack - Kaoru Wada (xxx)
i have always been obsessed with the Inuyasha soundtrack and since i recently found the OST on Spotify, i’ve been freaking hooked. i especially love how Inuyasha’s, Kagome’s, and Kikyo’s themes are utilized throughout the soundtrack while still maintaining their unique melodic themes
my favorite pieces have to be either Aika or Hiun no Miko Kikyo because there’s just something about a somber flute or a longing erhu that really speak to me ahhhhh it’s just so good (i could go on forever just gushing about pieces that use erhu but that’s for another post (; )
Moth to a Flame - Memorial (xxx)
i came across this song from Lucy Rose (my FAVORITE artist) bc she was promoting a new debut group Memorial from her record label, Real Kind Records
i’m not too sure what genre this song would fall under (i’ve never been one to pay attention to genre when listening to music) but their integration of soft brass into this acoustic-sounding song is just a nice touch; i really recommend giving it a listen!!
((maybe it’s folk? some form of indie??))
Four Seasons - Namie Amuro (xxx)
when i tell you i went absolutely feral upon finding this song on spotify after years of searching for any full recording of this song, i absolutely lost it
this song was the ending track to the 3rd inuyasha movie and for some reason it has stuck with me so strongly even after years of not watching the movie itself. maybe it’s just a nostalgia factor but i just think this song is so beautiful
there’s this continuous zither melody playing (at least i think it’s a zither) throughout the song and i think that just adds to the charm of the song

i recently got really invested in danganronpa again, (specifically with kiyotaka ishimaru & mondo owada and subsequently, their ship) so there’s been a shift in the songs i listened to this month but i don’t think that transferred over to my monthly playlist. i also spent a good chunk of the month working on a post i posted on my dr sideblog which required me to listen to a whole bunch of instrumental pieces so that also swayed me into choosing the pieces i chose for this month

Ghost Rule Lyrics Analysis
Hello! This will be my analysis on the song Ghost Rule, written by DECO*27 and sung by Hatsune Miku. I’ve added the song at the end if you would like to give it a listen, along with a summary of my individual notes. Feel free to leave your own thoughts about the lyrics or comments on my analysis at the end!
We start off with the lyrics:
Having lied about the most inconsequential of things, I’m unable to go back. No statute of limitations for my crime, robbed of forgiveness for that thievery of mine
Starting with these lines, we know that Miku has 1) lied for no reason about the most minuscule things, and 2) has faced the consequences because of this. She is aware of the mistakes she has made, but we don’t really know much else yet. With the second line, Miku uses the term “statute of limitations.” A statute of limitations is the maximum amount of time after an event that legal action can be taken. By saying this, Miku continues the theme of being aware of the consequences of her actions, and, if anything, feels that she deserves to be punished, saying her crimes have no expiration date for punishment. The second part of that line is also interesting as she explains that she has been robbed of forgiveness for her own thievery. This means that she does not deserve to be forgiven, she took away that privilege.
Things don’t look any better today, unable to keep up this deception the way I’d hoped
This next line shows that whatever facade Miku was playing into, it didn't turn out the way she wanted, and based on the next line, we can assume that instead of her facade breaking like one might assume, she slowly became her facade, to the point that it isn't a facade anymore, and it is who she is now.
Slowly lapsing in depravity, I hardly realize what has already become rotten
Corruption is slowly taking Miku over, she hadn’t even noticed when her lies didn’t become of her own will, it was part of her now, and it happened in a way that she didn't even notice who she had become before it was too late.
Come here, stay
We (as the listener,) are unsure of who this is directed at yet. Is it about her facade? Her past self? The person she deceived?
I hid it away
Pretty self explanatory, she hid her true self away.
Mayday! Even if you realize it's me, you don't need to hold me in your arms again. Mayday! If you realize it's me, will you kindly laugh at me once more?
We arrive at the chorus, starting off with “Mayday!” , which can be used as a distress signal or a plead for help. The next part conveys that even if they (the person the song is directed to) realizes the real Miku isn't her and this wasn't how she was, she doesn't need forgiveness or comfort. The second line here seems more hopeful than the last line, as if she wants them to realize who the real her is even though Miku thinks she doesn't deserve forgiveness, but presents the question of “Would you still forgive me?” to them.
I know I'm nothing of a ghost
An empty shell built of lies, hey!
She is a ghost of her past self, a ghost that evidently has taken over. The next line is also sort of self explanatory, she’s an empty shell of who she once was, having the lies build up over time and have become who she is now.
Though I’m sure that “no” is what I'm trying to say, strangely, it comes out as “yes”
Over the past lines, Miku sings about all the lies she tells, some seemingly for no reason, but his line further my belief that Miku has become a pathological liar, but upon further research, she seems to be a compulsive liar, the difference being that pathological liars are more manipulative, while compulsive liars question their sense of compassion or empathy. This line could also not mean any of that and instead show how she struggles with being her true self.
The bad thing about regret is that you start to realize that if you can fool someone completely, you're innocent
She hates feeling regret, especially after she realizes that she can get away with all her lies.
Choosing to act cowardly, unfairly? No big deal, a prayer or two can take care of that
The second part of the sentence implies that it was easy to be forgiven, and might have taken that for granted since this line contrasts her previous statements about her guilt.
That affected talkativeness of mine, just digging my own grave, burning myself out
By continuing to talk and not having a stopping point, she made the situation worse for herself.
That sense of guilt, beholding like this for how long? It's all going gray
She’s getting tired of lying all the time, to the point where shes either numb to her other emotions or is just going through the motions, living her life with her guilt as the main focus.
Even if it's just me acting the victim
This line is really interesting because I’m unsure if Miku believes that she’s just faking her pain and doesn't deserve to feel it or Miku is continuously manipulating him in to thinking she’s the victim, but I feel stronger about the former.
Mayday! Feel free to berate me, if honesty seems like such a wonderful thing
Mayday! Bring down the gavel and seal my fate, I who’ve chosen to act spoiled to the end
And we’re back to the chorus! In the first line, Miku seems accepting, almost like she wants the punishment at this point, but this seems double sided with the addition of the second half of the line, like she hasn't learned why her lies are bad, which counteracts what she has previously said. In the second line, again Miku uses the court analogy relating to her punishment, as she knows she deserves it. In the second half of the second line, she acknowledges her mistakes, but based off all the previous lines, I don’t think she understands her mistakes, just knows she did wrong.
I’m just a wandering spirit, dead and gone
A blank empty void, empty as can be, hey!
As previously stated, Miku is just a shell of what she used to be. This can also be referencing the fact that she knows her time is up and that she’s basically just a dead girl walking. The same thing applies to the second line.
Wishing for what I lacked, I came face to face with a version of “me” that was nothing like myself
And yet I kept going, even through the dark night that made my head swim
What was she lacking? Miku lacked whatever she saw as the perfect version of herself, but when she tried to get to that image she’d envisioned, she had changed so much about her that it she was a completely different person. The second line appears to show that she lacked self control or didn’t know how to stop.
Love me! I lack so much. I was raised by that selfish egotism of mine after all
We found her motive! Now we know that what she lacked was love, she had just wanted to be wanted by someone. Miku saying that she “lacks so much”  has a different meaning now. Instead of it being a better image of herself it’s now the affection and attention she’s never received. For the third part of this line, Miku can either mean that she never got love because everyone avoided her or because she pushed everyone away due to how she acted.
Can you really see me? This lonely, poisoned clown
Here Miku is asking if they can see past her lies to who she truly is.
Mayday! Even if you realize it's me, you don't need to hold me in your arms again
Mayday! If you realize it's me, will you kindly laugh at me once more?
Mayday! Feel free to berate me, if honesty seems like such a wonderful thing
Mayday! Bring down the gavel and seal my fate, I who’ve chosen to act spoiled to the end
And back to the chorus once more! This time, the chorus has a much darker tone to it now that we know what her purpose for her actions was. She feels defeated and has accepted her fate, still hoping for forgiveness if there is any chance.
Mayday! Expose me for what I really am, for this world is about to meet its end
Mayday! Dance with me! Did you realize “I” was never truly here to begin with?
Miku is asking to be condemned, to receive retribution. “This world is about to meet its end” refers to Miku herself, as previously stated she has a large ego, seeing herself as the world, and has made several references in past lyrics to her coming to an end.
I know I'm nothing of a ghost
An empty shell built of lies
I’m just a wandering spirit, dead and gone
A blank empty void, empty as can be
Again, Miku is accepting of her fate, she feels an empty numbness, she knows she’s finally at her end.
Having lied about the most inconsequential of things, I’m unable to go back
No statute of limitations for my crime, robbed of forgiveness for that thievery of mine
She uses the first lines of lyrics again, but with a much darker and depressing tone, it comes off as a lot more defeated and sad.
Summary:
Miku starts the song out by singing of how she has lied and is facing the consequences for her actions. We see her talk about how she doesn’t think she deserves to be forgiven, and how the facade that she had put up had become who she is now. She played into this facade so well that nothing was suspected of her, until recently, since the song is about her facing retribution. She’s lost too much of herself, and the chorus seems like she pleads for help. A little over half way through the song, she slips in that she wishes to be loved. She had created this mask because love is what she lacked, and I presume that her egoistic out view had started in an attempt to be self sufficient and convince herself she didn’t need it. From here on, all the lyrics she has previously stated take on a more dark and depressing tone, as now we know she acted out because she craved affection and attention. The song ends with the same lyrics as the first lines, but now she seems more defeated and accepting of her condemnation.
And that’s the end! Of course, this is just a lyrics analysis and doesn’t take into account other musical elements like key changes or breaks and pauses. Please let me know what your thoughts are about the song or my analysis, was it too long? I’m open to feedback!
★ My ask box is open if you would like to submit a song for analysis!

Translation of wowaka’s statement regarding his newly released song, “Unknown Mother Goose”.
Hello, wowaka here. I’m not particularly good at talking about my own songs outside the song itself, but there’s something I absolutely had to say about this Miku song, so I’ll write it here.
Firstly, thank you to everyone who listened to “Unknown Mother Goose”. Why did I make another Miku song in six years? Or why didn’t I make another Miku song for six years? Let’s start from there.
I should explain this for people who know me only from hitorie. In 2009 I got my hands on Vocaloid, made my first song and put it up, made about ten songs in a year, and made an album, Unhappy Refrain, in 2011. So it’s something that happened over two years or so. Thinking back on it, so much happened in those two years. In any case, my encounter with Miku literally changed my life. A lot of things happened, I found a lot of ways to get my stuff out, and even now I’ve gotten to hear the songs of other people making their own music. In those two years I met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of interesting experiences. Every day was like floating around on a cloud. It was a strange feeling. When I think about it, it really was like a dream.
I’ve said this before in a few interviews, but after putting out my Vocaloid album Unhappy Refrain, something exploded inside me...or perhaps more like the opposite of exploding, something kind of like that...it’s hard to find the words for it. For those songs that I’d thrown out and were taken out of my own hands, I ended up thinking “am I really existing as ‘myself’? What am ‘I’ supposed to be? What should I do from here on out?” I touched on it a little in the Natalie interview with DECO-san, but I felt like I was living only with the appearance of someone named wowaka, and couldn’t feel my heart at all. With those feelings only starting to increase, getting consumed by the feelings of “wowaka-like” and “Vocaloid-like”, I irresponsibly turned myself away from the community and fell into negativity, all of it finally eating me up with a crunch. With all of it just piling on top of me at once, I ended up becoming a disgrace of a human being for about half a year.
What got me through that half year was hitorie. I should explain for the people who don’t know what that is. hitorie is a four-member band, where I sing songs that I made. I carry the burden of singing it with my own voice, with my own words. I think I would have ended up dying if I hadn't made that band. I really feel I was lucky to have met band members who could do this with me. If those three hadn’t been there, I would have quit music entirely. In that sense I'm really grateful to Vocaloid, because it was through that culture that I ended up meeting them.
So in that state, I ended up making a band, and I wasn't able to see anything else beyond that. It's not like there was nothing left after all that, of course. It's just that as a band we always wanted to leave our own mark (of course, even now). During all that, in regards to time, or in regards to what my heart could allow for, I didn't have the opportunity to touch Vocaloid at all. I'd never had the intention of giving it up in the first place, and every so often I'd listen to other Vocaloid songs, every so often I'd think hey, I feel like making something with Vocaloid again, but in the end I could never get myself in a position to do it. I kept thinking "well, the band can do it fine enough", haha. So hitorie released three full albums and went on a tour around the country, I made the album IKI as an album depicting the crossroads of my life, we had our own live show at Studio Coast, so I ended up thinking "ah, these members and I, we all came this far and we're all gonna be fine." I felt like that "wowaka" who was born in 2009 had finally become a human at the age of 8. I felt like I'd found a perspective I hadn't been able to see before. And perhaps by chance, or perhaps by fate, right around that time in 2017, Miku’s tenth birthday came around.
And as if to guide me there, I was contacted with a request to make a song for Miku's tenth anniversary compilation album. I'm really grateful to those who wanted me to make a Vocaloid song for them, so I ended up letting everything out loose. I kind of let my heart move on its own.
So the timing lined up perfectly. I decided to write a Vocaloid song that I felt like I needed to write. That’s the kind of thing I put myself up to. For three months after saying I’d do it, I fussed about it and, through all the torture and fun of it, made and uploaded the song “Unknown Mother Goose”.
If you were to compare my work with hitorie to my work from Vocaloid...it’s hard to separate them, so things like “wowaka’s Vocaloid works are better” or, conversely, “it’s better if wowaka just sang himself”, or that I threw away Vocaloid or came to hate it...you can say that kind of thing easily, it’s only natural that people will think things like that, but for me it’s more like something that brings “me” together right now, that’s all I can say about it. In the circumstances I described earlier, I started Vocaloid, I started hitorie, and now I’ve written another Vocaloid song. That’s all there is to it. I think that’s all there is that defines what you would call “me”, in my blood or my existence. For now and in the future. For this song, for hitorie, for the IKI album, for all the songs I wouldn't have been able to write had I not come to stand on my own two feet, like I said earlier if I hadn't started hitorie I probably wouldn't be making music now. And the one who gave me that music to begin with was Hatsune Miku. I might be asking too much for you to understand that, but that's the kind of person I am.
Well, let's talk about this Miku song, "Unknown Mother Goose". It'll be a bit crude for me to talk about the song in detail like this, so I'll keep it short. Like this. With this all happening at this timing, I was thinking about Hatsune Miku's importance to me, so I decided to make a song about my relation to Hatsune Miku, and put in everything I'm talking about. So along those lines, I had Miku sing my own words for the first time. In the past, right now, and in the future, I’ve always hoped to say what I wanted to say, even if it’s embarrassing. Ah, incidentally, don't get the impression this was supposed to be some kind of response to Hachi-kun's song, the timing was just a coincidence, haha. I think you've probably come to understand by now, just by reading this, but I don't have a lot of flexibility when it comes to making things. To put it somewhat bluntly, I do things at my own convenience, so I made a song. Also, hitorie did the music for this song. Since I wanted to take advantage of the fact I work with a band now, so it was the first time I'd ever done live recording for a Miku song. We worked really hard, it was fun! I'm grateful to our members and our engineer, Hirai-san. I also sung chorals under Miku’s voice. As I said earlier, it's because this is a song that overlaps myself and Miku that I did that. It has that kind of meaning. I still remember when I made “Prism Cube”. At the time I was only thinking of myself, without any kind of restraint, but now that I think about it I was singing under Miku, wasn't I? How nostalgic.
I’ve said a lot. The song's finally out and it's a huge relief. Having finished making "Unknown" I'm curious how I should present myself now to the public. To the people following hitorie, we're going to be fine, so don't worry. We're writing a super cool song right now. I can't say much about live shows yet, but of course we're going to make you excited and give you lots of surprises.
I said all this like an idiot, so thank you for reading to the end. Please forgive me, it's the first time talking about myself so extensively like this, haha. See you later!

The Natalie interview referred to is this one (translation by vgperson here).
Studio Coast is an event venue in Tokyo, where hitorie had a live show that they did all by themselves (i.e. didn’t open for another group or participate in a concert lineup).
In case you've been living under a rock, "Hachi-kun's song" refers to "Dune" (or "Sand Planet", whatever you want to call it), which was made after Hachi had undergone a similar hiatus from Vocaloid production. The song also invokes themes of Vocaloid culture and the producer's personal relation to it, as described in his and ryo's Natalie interview (translation by vgperson here).
“Prism Cube” is a song on the Unhappy Refrain album, in which there are indeed wowaka’s vocals under Miku’s.

And so!! Because I couldn’t be any happier for my girl today and I need to let out my Vocaloid excitedness somewhere! Here’s my Top 10 Favorite Song list that not many will read! Of course, my taste expands past the listed producers and songs but here’s the most honorable mentions of the bunch. If I could list every single damn song on here, I absolutely would but I don’t have the energy for all of those songs and producers.
10. White Letter by GonGoss
While at it’s first release I wasn’t a fan, years later it has a great air of nostalgia that makes it beautiful to listen to. The lyrics tell the story of looking for something in life and going on everyday and hoping to find ‘that.’ I do believe what ‘that’ may be is up to the viewer.
9. Take it easy !!! by  Kyouken
The song itself is pretty self explanatory, it’s just a catchy beat trying to remind people it’s okay to relax once in a while. Though hilariously as I recently found out, this song doubled as a sort of meme in Japan back when it was released.
8. Mikunologie by  X-Plorez
A cute little song about a robot who was created. Said robot knows of all it’s abilities, but doesn’t seem too impressed by them and longs for satisfaction and love. I think it’s a crime it’s so short, I adore it.
7.  VOC@LOID in Love by OSTER Project
What kind of fan would I be if this song WASN’T on here? Vocaloid in Love is an oldie but a goodie. The lyrics are about a Miku in love with the person who bought her software, expressing that she’ll sing anything for him so long as he looks at her and makes her smile.
6. VOiCE by Lovely-P
This song is a sad one, but I still think it’s beautiful. The story talks about constantly searching for a dear loved one, even if they’re already departed from the world. Miku sings about her loneliness and her grief until the end of the song, where she learns how to accept and attempt to push forward.
5. Strobe Nights by Livetune
Another personal favorite. The song is relaxing and adorable, filled with wishes of meeting another once again. The emotions I go through listening to this song are almost impossible to describe, it simply just makes me feel happy. Like a comet soaring through the cosmos.
4. Freely Tomorrow by Mitchie M
Freely tomorrow marked the start of one my most favorite producers careers. It’s so funky, not to mention the tuning of Miku will forever remain phenomenal, Hatsune Miku sings like a human (as Mitchie puts it) and I honestly can’t see anyone replicating the style and craft of this song and it’s producer.
3. Melt by Ryo / Supercell
While many, many people including myself can absolutely lose it to World is Mine and agree that it’s the song that rose Miku to popularity, I will never enjoy it as much as I enjoy Melt. A love song about a shy girl being too afraid to express her feelings to the one she likes, praying that one day she’ll gain the courage. When I first listened to it while I was younger, I always dreamed that one that I’d feel like that about someone, too.
2. Electric Angel by Yasuo P
Ever had that song you just can not get out of your head no matter how hard you try? The second this song graced my ears, it sealed my fate as a Vocaloid lover. Another love song, this one speaks out to me and in a way feels like it was written by myself. After years, and years of listening to it I have never grown tired to it in the slightest. The original song brings back many happy memories, and makes me feel warm inside.
1. Po Pi Po by Lamaze P
Wooooo!!! You guys remember this one, don’t you? The Big Meme (TM) ? Well, hilariously this song was how I was introduced to Vocaloid in the first place! I got to say, it’s still as addicting and as fun as it used to be when I first discovered it. Lamaze P is also responsible for two other Memes of the community which didn’t make it on this list, but you know also I’m sure. The choppy English in the Project Diva version only enchanced it and made it more cute. Never thought a song about vegetable juice could be so.. fun!
Honorable Mentions:    Ok... to be fair, it’s nearly impossible to gauge all my favorite Hatsune Miku songs in a list, so those other favorites that didn’t make the cut can be found here!
Yellow by Livetune
Odds & Ends by Ryo / Supercell
1/6 Out of the Gravity by Vocaliod-P
Sweet Devil by Hachioji-P
Clover Club by Yuuyu-P
Once Upon a Me by DECO*27
Common World Domination by Pinocchio P
StargazeR by Kotsuban-P
Goodbye of The Physicist by Nattoku-P
Gigantic Girl by 40mP
Happy Birthday, my beautiful beautiful girl! I could have never made it this far with your voice and the lovely producers behind the craft. I’ll forever be grateful for the journey I’ve been on so far with everyone and can’t wait for what the future brings.
Thank you for everything.

Interview: Danny L Harle
Danny L Harle is one of the most celebrated artists on the PC Music label, based on a string of deadly singles and collaborations with everyone from Panda Bear and Tinashe to Carly Rae Jepsen and Charli XCX. His first single, “Broken Flowers,” was what he called an attempt at writing a “completely conventional song,” but the SHAPE-affiliated artist has since branched out stylistically. Harle has said his latest EP, 1UL, is all about “making sad music that people can dance to.” Lucia Udvardyova spoke to Harle about his label’s new MAJOR status, “pop,” the conceptual strategies of his music, and, of course, arpeggios. --- What fascinates you about pop music and its structure? I used to be solely interested in contemporary classical music, especially pieces that experimented with extremes of sound. Toward the end of my masters degree I started playing electronic music at club nights and soon realised that you can play around with extremes of sound with complete freedom in electronic music in a much more interesting performance context. After being enlightened to electronic music in this way I became interested in certain types of pop, as it had all the extremes of music that I was interested in during my classical phase (extremes of simplicity, complexity, loudness) but also had the added benefit of being super-fun. I also like music with a ‘mechanical’ element. I’ve always loved instruments like the harpsichord, hurdy-gurdy, and player piano, as I find a kind of profundity in a sound made by a mechanical or robotic instrument that evokes a human emotion. My interest in the ‘industrial’ side of pop music is related to this — I am fascinated by music studios which have managed to design a mechanical formula for making pop music, such as always writing at the same BPM, using the same instruments, using modular but consistent structures etc. Examples of this are SAW, Motown, and (my favorite) Cherion studios. Pop music has become once again the norm/normative. It’s omnipresent, the same way indie-rock used to be. Do you see it imploding and where do you see pop going in the future? Pop music is always the norm by definition, the only thing that changes is the audience’s perception of whether they are listening to ‘manufactured’ music or ‘real’ music — the difference between which is pretty much illusory when it reaches the charts. I really like how the pop music culture in Japan and Korea allows for an acceptance and an embrace of the fake rather than a search for the real. The South Korean band ‘Exo’ are marketed to have supernatural powers that control the elements, and that is often incorporated into their videos, and J-pop has acts such as Kyari and Hatsune Miku. I would love to see that mentality reflected in Western pop music. Can you talk about your association with PC Music — the label, the genre, the aesthetic as such? Has the public and media perception of it influenced you in any way? I hadn’t heard of all these media outlets before PC started making an impact. I never read them before and I don’t read them now. I’ve never really needed journalists to help me find music, as I do my own research. I obviously read reviews of my stuff out of curiosity, but as I never read reviews about anything else, I tend to find it quite nice if they like my stuff and hilarious if they don’t. What is your stance regarding the major vs. independent music scene (considering PC Music — the label — is now part of Columbia and yours was the first release of this partnership) — is this dichotomy still relevant nowadays? No, it’s largely an illusion, and I love illusions! When you make music, do you approach it from a conceptual aspect? I was a real ‘Johnny Concept’ when I was at music school, but now I tend to do what strikes me as fun or emotionally evocative. I don’t know how much of my old conceptual self still exists in my subconscious though. Can you talk about how you make music from the perspective of form/content/idea? I wrote some music recently by transcribing a sequence I liked in a Bruckner motet and then introducing some interesting modulations to it. It sounded completely different after a bit of experimentation. I tend to write melodies and chords first because that is what I am obsessed with. I usually write them into a ‘super saw’ sound with a low cutoff. pullquote: I obviously read reviews of my stuff out of curiosity… I tend to find it quite nice if they like my stuff and hilarious if they don’t. Your music is euphoric, the listener awaits an apex, a sonic culmination. Can you talk about euphoria and how you structure your music in general? HUGE DROP!!!!!! You’ve recently recorded an album with Pawel Siwczak entitled Harpsichord Sessions, with a subtitle “the Oldest Newest Old New Music.” Can you talk about it? Baroque music uses arpeggios all the time because of the nature of the instruments; the same can be said for chiptune music. This limitation produced a way of expressing music that I find particularly emotional, and even though I live in an age where I don’t have to write an arpeggio to express a sustained chord, I choose to stick to arpeggios as I have fallen in love with the sound. What is “new” in sound nowadays, what innovations can producers bring about? Is “newness” important for a musician/music as such? Arbitrarily pursuing the ‘new’ is nearly always a bad idea, newness comes as a result of having a thing to say which current technology (or combinations of technology) can’t express. What is important to you personally about music-making (the effect on the listener, your own feelings from it, its socio-political ramifications, etc)? The best music for me is emotionally involving and also interesting to listen to. The feeling I most search for in music is euphoric melancholy. I don’t like thinking about the effect on the listener, as it seems to inhibit my creativity. I am a firm believer in Quincy Jones’ saying, “If it really turns you on, there is a chance that it will turn someone else on too.” Can you talk about your latest projects & plans? These days I’m interested in making chilled bangers, experimental euphoric music, and HUGE BANGERS. Also video game development and Kids TV shows. http://j.mp/2v2BKm5
