please rant about animal crossing!
This Animal Crossing post has been a long time coming and more stressful than I anticipated but it’s, at last, come to fruition. I’m going to be talking about things that I want from Animal Crossing’s New Horizons and in there I will be sprinkling in facts about the games. I hope that you all enjoy my hard work.
We’ve come a long way from Dōbutsu no Mori (Animal Forest) the original Animal Crossing game that came out for the Nintendo 64 in Japan exclusively. Expanding from there we’ve gone from a lazy little life simulator to a charming immersive gaming experience that really rewards the creativity in players. Throughout the six games that have been released in several parts of the world including, the amiibo game, Mario Kart and Smash appearance. Animal Crossing has been one heck of a success. We now near the upcoming addition, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and many Animal Crossing fans are becoming very excited for its debut this March, 20th. Fans have speculated and commented on their ideas of what they want for this new game and already some have been answered from previous Nintendo Directs. But how do I feel about this? Well, I’d like to explain to you all right now if you’ll please share your time with me.
Paths, we begged, we cried, some of us made pentagram’s out of AC merchandise while trying to get the release of a new game, but at least we got them! This was something I’ve wanted for a while. Not a desperate need for them I’ll say but it’s nice to feel like we were heard so attentively. Right now from what I’ve seen it’s only a dirt path and I’d like to have more customized options with that. With the tile option although a huge pain the tail we were able to make paths were various in designs. I’d like to be able to keep that design element.
Public works projects, do we still have them or have they been erased completely? If not, which I really hope not, does that mean we can have island them public work projects? If we do still have them I hope they are easier than what we originally had to do. Constantly talking to villagers and hoping by the slightest chance they may ask you for what you have been longing to finally build. It’s like, Peterio I’ve gotten you at least 500 assorted apples these past two months, the least you can do is give me that work order for one stupid bridge. If we do still have public work projects, I’d really love to be able to have the ability for an island resort theme based on new items that are for that express purpose.
Wisp The Ghost is a recurring Animal Crossing character that has had multiple jobs in the succession of the games. In his first appearance in Animal Crossing on the GameCube if you bring him five spirits you have him either pull weeds, paint the roof of your house, or give you stuff. I’d like if we had the collecting option again but this time he only gives us specific items. Just as Pascal does when you give him scallops. This time they would be items that have to do with yokai. They would be a furniture set and clothes and I’d lose my mind. I’d even design them myself, so maybe that could be apart of an update patch for the game when it comes out Nintendo. Eh? Nah. One of those things that’s a great idea but I think too specific and they don’t know.
The most common villager OC I see being made are bat characters. I agree it’s time we got some. They are massively cute and I think would be a great addition to our cast of animals.
QR Reader from New Leaf, I want to keep that for sure.
I’m super into the things that we can build now from what I saw in the Nintendo Direct about the new workshop system. That community shared library is going to be one of the first things I build day one if I can.
Pocket Camp released many new items amongst them was backpacks. That was literally on my list of things I wasn’t sure I’d ever get but really would like. Beyond that, we were given wings! Those I definitely want. I also want the ability to make your own backpacks and wings. There are also times where you can put ghosts or bats or lots of other stuff behind you. I’d really enjoy those as well.
Animal Crossing will usually have mini-games in it. Please bring back Hammer Time from tours and the bubble matching game that was added in later on in New Leaf.
The biggest thing that I’m asking for with this game and that I want is our house customization to be exactly. I fell head over heels in love with Happy Home Designer. I want all the customization ability that it had and more. Above all, I want more furniture sets and electronics. I’d like to be able to put tablets in houses. I aggressively want to be able to put more things on our walls and have more customizable options for hanging up QR codes and pictures we take. A much broader selection of ways to design furniture and different furniture as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read my special interests.

Okay, I just thought of this since I only actually got around to watching the other rottmnt episodes yesterday but like since they look like they'd love it (well at least Raph and Mikey) maybe have the turts spend a night with April dressing up all cute and like putting on makeup and nail polish (Maybe with them wearing old big clothes April found or owns? Or after acquiring a whole bunch of clothes through whatever means). (Mikey and Raph just really loved dressing up and I loved it too)
this one was too cute a prompt to pass on. and congrats on joining the brand new rottmnt fandom! we’re growing in numbers with every day that the proper release date draws closer. :3c
“It’s making my eyes itchy.”
“Shh, you look great. Now- keep holding still, I have tocurl them.”
“Is it gonna hurt?”
“Not if you hold still.”
“Those look like they’re going to hurt me.”
“They won’t, promise.”
“You sure?”
“I’ve used them on myself, Leo. They don’t hurt.”
Leo’s lips stay in a bracing grimace though, rigid all overwith tension as April gently curls the fake eyelashes. She giggles at howscared her friend is, considering that Leo walks around with a giant sword mostdays and has faced plenty scarier than makeup tools. He’s a total dork, justlike Mikey, who is watching the process with wide eyes; leaning on his armsover the side of the bed, looking up at the both of them.
“Soooo… does ithurt?” he asks, poking Leo’s leg.
“Nnnnooo…?” Leo says slowly, blinking as April takes awaythe curler. He’s still grimacing. “Still super itchy, though.” He blinks rapidly, testing out the lashes. “God, how do humans livewith hair on their faces like this?”
“Haha, you look so weird, Leo. I wanna go next.”
“I think I might stick with eyeliner, April,” Leo says, touching the tips of the lashes. April smacks his hand away before he canunstick the glue.
“Take a look before you decide,” April says, holding up acircular desk mirror. Leo takes the mirror from her, examining himself in it ashe turns his head side to side. The thick black eyelashes stand out against thestreaks of red markings on his face, accentuated further by the eyeliner they’dalready applied earlier; before April convinced Leo to give eyelashes a go.
“I look… soweird,” Leo says after a moment. “Turtles really aren’t supposed to have hairon their faces. It’s… kinda a nice-weird, though? Itchy, but nice.”
“My turn,” Mikeyproclaims, clambering onto the bed and shoving Leo out of the way. He percheson the comforter with an expectant expression, eager as anything. Leo grumblesand unscrunches himself from between Mikey and the wall, climbing off the endof the bed and getting some space.
“Can I have the reallythick ones? They’re glittery,” Mikey asks, pointing at the costume eyelashesApril saved from Halloween one year. “If I’m gonna have itchy eyes, I wanna getmy money’s worth out of things.”
“Sure thing, hon,” April says, opening the packet. Mikey isless fidgety than Leo had been, probably by virtue of having seen his bigbrother go through the experience first. April’s started to realize that aslong as at least one of the brothers has done something before the rest, theother three will gladly follow lead. Even if whatever they’re doing is a badidea.
They also, sometimes, feel more comfortable doing somethingafter April’s done it first. That factmakes a strange squishy spot of warmth in her chest. Her relationship with thebrothers has really started to feel closer the past months; easy andcomfortable.
April doesn’t have any blood siblings, so in a way, it’s beena novel experience having the brothers in her life. More and more, they… feellike actual little brothers to her. Sitting here in her room, her small makeup bagspread across the bed and having spent the past half hour delicately painting eachother’s faces- it feels familial and warm in a way, like they’ve doneit a hundred times before. And that’s proof enough of how close April’s gottenwith the brothers.
The appreciative noises Mikey makes to himself when he getsthe mirror, after the job is done, makes April smile fondly. “I feel like abird of paradise,” Mikey says, fluttering his new eyelashes.
“You definitely look like one,” Leo says from the floor, having moved into the same spot Mikey had been. He laughs when Mikey winksexaggeratedly, still showing off his new look.
April uncurls her legs, sighing in relief as blood flowsback into. “Aight, I’ve been sitting too long. Up, up. I gotta check if theother two haven’t made the microwave sentient yet anyway.”
Her friends do as she asks, getting out of the way andfollowing April from her room. There’s no smoke coming from the kitchen, orsounds of laser blasts, which April is steadily becoming familiar with viafriendship with Donnie- but there isthe sound of someone lecturing someone else with a frustrated tone.
“Do you see this? It’s a vegetable. You have a mouthful ofcanines. You don’t like vegetables.Carnivores do not eat carrots.”
Mayhem’s crickety voice responds with a rolling chirp.
“You. Are a carnivore. I aman omnivore. I eat carrots. You eat meat. I saw you inhale fivehamburgers in one sitting just last week. Go steal someone’s fastfood and leave my carrots alone.”
“Oh my gosh,” Mikey giggles. Leo is laughing into his palm, and April feels herself grinning. As they come into the kitchen, Donnie isstanding in front of the counter with his hands on his hips, sans his battleshell in a rare instance of vulnerability limited to only specificcircumstances. IE: spending time with his family and April in a safe setting.
Mayhem sitting in front of the scowling turtle, tailflicking back and forth playfully as they give an innocent look. There’s acollection of chewed on and spat back out carrots littering the counter aroundtheir paws.
“Are you berating my pet, Donnie? Seriously?” April laughs.
“They keep stealing the snacks,” Donnie accuses flatly, pointing at Mayhem. “They are. A thief.”
“Ohhh, and such a cutelittle thief,” April coos, coming over and petting Mayhem. They purr like alittle engine, chirping as she squishes their cheeks and scratches their big ears.
“You’re biased,” Donnie scoffs.
“They do keep my feet warm at night,” April admits happily.Leo and Mikey both ignore Donnie’s disgust with the veggie snatcher, joiningApril in giving Mayhem the attention they’ve probably been trying to get.
“Guys?” Raph asks from the next room over. “Hey, there’s afew good movies on Netflix and I dunno which-” Raph’s shell scrapes the wall ashe tries to squeeze through the doorway, and he cringes and cuts off. “Oh,shit, shit- April, I’m really sorry.”
April sees the damage done, a deep gouge into the whiteframe along with a few other smaller scratches. She just sighs, picking upMayhem and cradling the strange little creature. “It’s alright, Raph. It’snothing my cousins haven’t done already- or me, too, actually. I got up to someserious shenanigans as a kid.”
“I either bump my head or I hit the wall; your home is so tiny,April,” Raph complains, though he still looks deeply apologetic. April noticedfrom the get-go how careful her large friend has been in her home. Despite the excitementabout April’s parents being away for the weekend and the five of them gettingto hang out here, April suspects Raph is actually fairly uncomfortable movingaround in such a small, breakable space. Thus, his expression of regret and howhe’s holding all his limbs close to himself.
“It’s cool, no worries. They probably won’t even noticeanother scratch,” April promises, handing Raph Mayhem for a cuddle. Now thatthe two of them have gotten warmed up to one another, they get along just fine. After the third time Mayhem attacked Raph- back when the little creature firstcame to them- they’d come up with the hypothesis that Mayhem was mistaking Raphfor the big muscly monster guys that’d been chasing them. Some treats, a calmspace, and Raph sitting down instead of standing over them fixed that easily.
Mayhem purrs contently in Raph’s arms, easing the slightdiscomfort that’d been in his expression. Donnie, through the conversation, hasdrafted his two younger siblings for busboy services, and is sending all theirmovie snacks into the living room.
“Nice lashes,” Raph says to Mikey and Leo as they pass.
“Nice hat,” they chorus back, and Raph grins, still pleasedwith his wide sunhat. When the brothers had first arrived, they’d stumbledacross the bags of clothing donations April’s parents have been collecting fora community event. Raph, for obvious reasons, hadn’t fit a single piece ofclothing.
While the other three had been playing dress up, and while Aprilhurriedly bullshitted an essay so they could really start the fun, Raph had saton the couch and tried not to act too disappointed about being left out. Donnie, who’d been sporting a nice work jumpsuit and ill-fitting rain boots at thetime, was the one who fixed that.
“It suits you,” he’d said with purposeful kindness, placingthe sunhat on his brother’s head. It hadn’t been a beat later and Mikey and Leooffered the wealth of chunky necklaces in addition; finding a way to includetheir oldest brother in the dress up game.
Raph put the necklaces back in the end, but hasn’t takenthat hat off since it was put on his head. April has a feeling she’ll just giveit to him permanently, because Raph keeps touching its brim with a happy littlegrin.
“Can we watch this one?” Mikey asks, selecting an animatedmovie from the trending section. “It dropped like, yesterday, and I didn’t geta chance to watch it yet.”
“I saw the trailer, it looks decent,” Leo says, floppingonto the couch next to Mikey. April takes the third cushion of couch, while Donnietakes the loveseat. Raph sits on the floor, leaning carefully against the armof Donnie’s chair, so he doesn’t rip the fabric of it.
“What’s it about?” Raph asks.
“The future and robots and a generic rebel girl,” Donnie replies.“From the looks of things, at least. It’s pretty obvious from the title card.”
“What? I sent you a link, Don,” Leo says, vaguelydisgruntled. “You didn’t watch it?”
Donnie shrugs. “You send me a lot of links, Leon. I can’tclick on them all and keep up with myprojects.”
Mikey pats Leo’s shoulder as his brother sulks momentarily. “I’lljust play the trailer right now for everyone, ‘n’ then we can decide if wewanna watch.”
“No!” Donnie abruptlyshouts, lunging at Mayhem on the coffee table. He unsuccessfully picks them upand drops them on the floor in order to save the carrots, as Mayhem canteleport and tends to ignore people trying to put them where they don’t want tobe.
The trailer starts playing as Donnie tries again to shooMayhem off his carrots, only for the creature to teleport out of reach and landin April’s lap. Purring and holding a baby carrot in their mouth. Donniemutters, “I give up,” and slumps into his loveseat as his brother laugh at him.
“You are a very bad baby,” April tells them seriously, thoughshe’s smiling indulgently. They just chirrup in a distinctly unrepentant wayand spits their chewed carrot on the carpet. She’ll have to clean that uplater.
April scritches their ears with a roll of her eyes, settlinginto the squish of being on the couch with Leo and Mikey; ready for the nexthalf of their hangout night.

Daily Goodie Box(free and full of treats)
Daily Goodie Box is a lovely service that, once you sign up for it, awards free goodie boxes(a new box every month) to its subscribers. The best way to get picked for a free box is to be active on their social media and generally be very open with your opinions. After doing just that, I was awarded one for this month. Now one of the great things about this box, is that (as they love to remind you) It's more than just Free Samples! The fullsize products they include(in addition to a couple sample size ones) allow you to make the fullest use of the product and really see if you like it, and want to add it to your routine, kitchen, or cleaning roster. I’ve decided to put my own assessment out there and after a week of testing, the reviews are in. The links for each product, or their brand website, are listed below their respective reviews.
Starting with the snacks.
First we have Sweet Potato Puffs by Spudsy in the Crunchy Cinnamon Variety. Now these I can see being a bit polarizing. First bite is not a great indicator for potential. You get a puff of cinnamon that slowly cedes the stage to the texture which is a bit like a rice puff but a tad less springy, not necessarily super appealing. However, in the spirit of giving it a fair shake, I gave it another go. By the fourth (tiny) puff, I was actually pretty delighted with them. They are not overly sweet, they don’t have any kind of unfortunate aftertaste, and it becomes easy to go through them.My daughter and I finished the teeny sample bag before i knew it, and were a bit crestfallen when we realized it. I would definitely recommend these as a toddler or childrens’ snack, as they do remind me a bit of those other very popular puffs and may provide a similar and appealing texture to the young ones.I know my Bean was absolutely enamored of them. https://spudsy.com/collections/sweet-potato-puffs
Next, we have the Gluten-Free Granola by Bakery on Main. This is the Cranberry Almond Maple variety, and let me tell you, I did not have high hopes for this product. I am not a huge granola person, a lot of them are too sugary or too dry and they just don’t appeal. This blew me out of the water. The maple flavor is very present but it doesn’t overwhelm everything. The bean crisps were a wild card for me and I found them delightful, just enough crunch and chew, and they were complimented very well by the tart dried cranberries. The almonds and seeds are lovely, nothing to write home about, but exactly what you would hope for in the Granola/ Trail mix hybrid. My only fuss, I wouldn’t mind a slightly higher cranberry to bean crisp ratio. This is honestly delightful, and the 1.1 oz bag is actually the perfect size for a quick snack on the go, or a little workout energy boost. https://bakeryonmain.com/shop/cranberry-almond-maple-granola/
Now on to the tea
For our beverage offering we have Tipson tea in, Honey&Lemon Matcha Infusion. I will cop to the fact that I tend to be more of a coffee person, but lately I’ve been trying to cut back, drink more water, drink more tea. However, I am a sucker for homey and lemon, so this was providence. I’m not the biggest Matcha fan, but again, I give everything its fair trial before i pass a verdict. I brewed a cup to have with our previously mentioned snacks. The tea is definitely lemony, probably one of the most overtly fruit flavored teas, short of something pre-chilled and sold in a tall can, that I’ve ever had.The honey, however, loses its way and is hard to taste behind all that lemon. The matcha, being that this is a “matcha infusion” is also pretty hard to get, which is fine with me. I prefer subtle matcha. After my initial taste, I fixed it the way I normally fix my tea, with milk and (extra) honey, and it was lovely. I would recommend using honey if you want to taste it, but it is a lovely tea, nonetheless, and I’ll be enjoying each of my twenty-four remaining cups. https://www.amazon.com/tipson
First up in health and beauty is the face mask.
Here is the detoxifying peel mask by Que Bella. I’ve made it no secret that this is the item I was most excited to try. On opening the packet, it seemed there was not an overabundance of product, and I feared I might have to use both packets for one mask. My fears were mostly allayed, when one packet proved to be just enough for one layer. The smell of the mask is quite pleasant, not overwhelming, in fact you become used to it quite quickly. The consistency is a bit thinner than I was expecting, but I smeared it on and geared up for the slightly painful peeling to come. The mask started to tighten within about three minutes of finishing the application, and it was lovely to sit in front of the fan with it on, like sticking your face into a cool mountain spring. I opted to wait the twenty-five minutes it suggests on the package, as I am the type of person that will keep poking and prodding and checking to see if it’s dry, unless I rein myself in.The peeling was not nearly as painful as some of the others I have tried, but i attribute that in part to my artful avoidance of my hairline, and how very thin the mask was. It was also quite a quick ordeal, and none of my peach fuzz got yanked out, so I call that a win. Upon removal, my cheeks continued feeling the “mountain spring” sensation for quite a while, probably fifteen minutes or so. My cheeks were noticeably smoother, as was my nose. My skin didn’t redden excessively, or puff up like I’d been stung, so on all accounts, I’d give this mask two thumbs up. https://www.quebellabeauty.com/product-page/que-bella-professional-detoxifying-intense-black-peel-off-mask
In our health selection, this month we were sent Napz, a drug free, non-habit forming, sleep aid. To preface this review, I am a nocturnal hermit gremlin and I almost never fall asleep before 3 a.m. In my (almost) week of usage, I found these were better for kicking my butt in the last hour before succumbing, than forcing myself into premature sleep. They do create a subtle drowsiness, but like most herbal remedies and aids, I think you must be very receptive to it, and do what you can to maximize its efficacy. The directions recommend taking an hour before desired bed time for best results. On the nights when i took it at midnight I did fall asleep 1 to 2 hours earlier. But taking it any earlier than that did me no good, as I just was not close enough to sleep. Would I recommend this to an insomniac, or someone with a preternaturally screwy circadian rhythms like me? Probably not, at least not in an attempt to “normalize” a sleep schedule. Would I recommend this to someone trying to get an extra hour before exams, or even just for relaxation? Hell yes! https://www.napz.com/
This month we were provided with QuickStop! bandages by Curad. Wooo bandages! No sarcasm, I go through these like no ones business. Between blood thinners, a compulsion to pick my fingers, and an adventurous toddler, I constantly have plasters on, and my daughter goes through a couple a week. They are usually some cute design that I either bleed through, or that falls off within an hour, so anything that claims to stop bleeding faster, and stay on my damn fingers/toes/elbow/daughters knees. is a beacon of hope for me and my blood-stained button-ups. Now these were a interesting test, as I literally had to wait for myself to bleed, and like a watched pot, my finger refused to boil-I mean- you know what I mean. Yesterday I finally had an excuse to use them, oddly enough on a paper cut, and a needle prick. Apparently my self control was great this week, probably because I was thinking about it so much. Now when one is on blood thinners, they bleed a bit longer and a bit more than usual. Typically we are just instructed to apply more pressure and be patient, but if I get cut while dealing with a crying toddler (as is my luck) I may not have a free hand to apply pressure while trying to prevent a nuclear meltdown. Indeed, I didn’t need one. It was story time before bed, she was fussing and fighting sleep with the best of them, and wouldn’t you know it, my finger slips and I get a massive, (honestly, a little scary) deep, paper cut on my thumb. The Bean sees this and starts to cry more because Baba/Mama is bleeding and oh my gosh this is terrible. I pull a bandage out of my stash in her dresser and pop it on. No bleeding through, no leakage, immediately my thumb is story ready and suddenly there is no more reason to cry because “ooo mommy, what’s this?”.Despite her best efforts she couldn’t tear it off, and I got a toddler to bed without getting blood all over the sheets. Win-Win. The needle prick was less dire, but it happened while sewing a teddy bear up last night, and it lasted through my tossing sleep, and all this typing, so, again, I’ll call it a win. http://curad.com/quick-stop/
Pertaining to health and hygiene, the goodie box bestowed upon us...an oral rinse? I’m game, in fact I was sort of looking forward to this one, as I’ve just changed toothpastes and was considering adding another component to my routine. I don’t particularly care about the whitening aspect but on all other accounts I’d like to have a good rinse in my arsenal. This is unfortunately not it, at least not for me. It is described as “peppermint” but it more of a lemongrass/torture flavor. There is no tingle or sensation of freshness that comes with it, in fact it makes me want to rinse my mouth with something stronger. After a week of usage with my brushing routine(evenings only for this product) I did not notice a change in whiteness, and there seemed to be no breath freshening component, my toothpaste was pulling all the weight there. Maybe to someone who follows the “pristine protocol” with the recommended line of products, this would be useful. However, just throwing this into your routine, as far as I can tell, will not cause a noticeable change in dental hygiene or emotional fulfillment. https://essentialoxygen.com/products/organic-brushing-rinse/
Last on our list of goodies we have our only household item.
Ode to Clean cleansing wipes. These are billed as “all-purpose” wipes and claim to be skin safe and cruelty free, so what do i have to lose? Answer? Maybe my old wipes. I love these, I have finicky skin, I can’t get poison ivy, but i can get chemical burns from a couple drops of gasoline. So I never know what I’m in for with “skin safe” products. In this case, no reaction to be recorded. No welts, hives, rashes, etc. I tried them out on dried liquids, liquefied solids, and even some caked on semi-solids (I have a toddler, a lot of messes get made). They work like a dream. The scent is a bit citrus-y and a bit herbal, certainly not bad, but also not what you might be used to. They don’t leave behind too much of the scent, which is just fine with me, and they take all the mess with them, too. The only downside? I don’t have a full pack of them.

Requested by @geleixi (and varying amounts of time ago by @rockett-to-the-purple-moon, @thenameisgreed, @pizzaplanethq, and probably others who sent nice messages that I went “Oh, what a nice message this means so much I LOVE IT SO MUCH I’M TOO ANXIOUS TO ANSWER IT WRONG I’ll just do it later” and then promptly NEVER answered it.)
Brainstorming & Photo Collection
Picking a Color Palette
Choosing Images from Collection
Coloring
Textures & Effects
First off: I am not even going to remotely pretend like graphic design is a Thing I Am Better At Than Anyone Else, because that would be patently false and ridiculous, but I also get a fair number of Asks about making photosets/aesthetic posts, so here we are. I’m planning to do a separate one, maybe, for how I do the Cartoon Girls All Grown Up and Nancy Drew Dream Games series, because the “brainstorming and photo collection” part is so different that it inherently affects the rest of the process.
BUT I also feel like I don’t see a ton of tutorials that go through the brainstorming/finding images part of making aesthetics, and I tend to think of my Graphics Style(TM) as “DEEPLY Uninterested in washed-out faux sepiatone grimdark Tumblr Coloring?? + Not Good Enough At Masks To Do Negative Space Well,” which might be some people’s level of ~graphics design passion(TM)~ too, so. That’s the ride for which this ticket has been bought.
Brainstorming & Photo Collection
Obviously, the specifics of this are totally different for every aesthetic, but all of the GFFA/swworlds start from the same seed: Star Wars Aesthetic.
Star Wars itself has a very particular Lookque, imo: it’s not quite retrofuture, it’s not quite dirtpunk, it’s not quite scifi, even. There are the insanely sumptuous (and hella culturally appropriative) queens of Naboo and the ramshackle toppled AT-AT where Rey lives on Jakku and the not-even-subtle-at-all-jfc Nazi inspiration of the Empire and First Order and the straight-up millennial Tumblr witch Goffik look of the Dathomir Witches and Zabrak siths and the blue, blue water of Scarif. There “isn’t” a unifying aesthetic through Star Wars, and yet, as Gareth Edwards said, there’s a LOOK and FEEL to Star Wars: if you go a little too far to the left or right, it isn’t Star Wars anymore.*
*That said, this tutorial talks about Crait, which was invented by Rilo Jon, who went both too far left and too far right but mostly... too far-right. BA DUM BUM! Anyway.
So part of what makes Star Wars Look Like Star Wars, to me, is that it ISN’T ever Too Scifi. There’s a realism in all of Star Wars’ disparate planets -- their looks, anyway; like, talking about how Crait, in this case, makes NO ecological sense as a planet AT ALL is another post entirely. (IT MAKES NO SENSE.) It’s different from, like, Doctor Who, which I think revels in its “we can make these aliens and planets look like WHATEVER” more? Star Wars tends to be very like... “we want to use practical sets and effects.” Even for planets that only appear thus far in Clone Wars and Rebels? So it’s definitely part of the intention of SW’s Aesthetic.
ALL OF THAT TO SAY, my first step with each planet is to figure out the best way to represent it using as much real-world photography as I can and how best to channel the ~spirit of Star Wars~ in the graphic. Sometimes I fail miserably. CURSE YOU, NAR SHADAA. But most of the time it helps provide a Framework for the rest of the brainstorming and photo collection.
SO. FOR CRAIT. (For another example/totally different look and process, I wrote up a little about Haruun Kal on its post here.)
Crait has the definite benefit of appearing in one of the movies, so the first part of photo collection was to screencap TLJ. I took the caps using the 1080p digital release at a 20-frame frequency, so even once I deleted the aps that weren’t of Crait (moving the Canto Bight frames into a folder for Cantonica, of course!), I had like... 1500 images just from TLJ to start the brainstorming and collection with.
First, I trimmed down those ~1500 screencaps to 168 caps that were distinct enough from one another to give me a sense of “what happens” in the scene and, more than that, “What Crait Looks Like.” Then, because there’s additional canon material of Crait besides TLJ, I saved the unlettered images of “Star Wars: The Storms of Crait” from comic penciller Mike Mayhew’s blog @mikemayhew -- if those hadn’t been available, which they’re usually not for planets that appear in the comics (THANX MIKE MAYHEW!!!), I would have taken and cropped panels from the comic at both 100% and screen-fit/60% sizing that had utility for a graphic about planet scenery and not character.
THEN, I looked at Wookieepedia and MSW. Crait was based on the Salar de Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia, so I Google image-searched that. There weren’t actually very many images of the Salar de Uyuni salt flats that I super loved, so I ended up saving images of other salt flats as well, particularly the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
THEN there was the issue of the red minerals, which were entirely fictional and not part of any real-world salt flat. BUT, there IS real red sand... so I saved some images of red-sand dunes (mostly Mui Ne in Vietnam). I also went through my Star Wars Stock Folder to find images of crystal caves and mines that I’d either saved for other planets in the past, but didn’t end up using, OR just saved because there are so fucking many crystal-based planets in SW.
Each of my big graphics series has its own Stock Folder for unorganized images that just strike the right Vibe~ and might be useful someday, in addition to every planet (or cartoon girl, or US state for the Nancy Drews, etc) having its own folder for specific/organized image collection.
My Star Wars Stock Folder:
So there were already a lot of crystals, star destroyers, blasters, and bunkers that were actually in snow but whatever it was white and crystalline, to work with. I added some workable Crait-like images from the stock folder to Crait’s collection, too.
AND THEN, finally, I LOVE the vulptices, so I searched for (and found!) some of the concept art and 3D modeling images from ILM, and I put those in the folder, as well.
I also saved this, hoping I’d be able to make it work because it’s SO CUTE, but I couldn’t, but here LOOK HOW CUTE:
And then, lest I stay in the image-collection rabbithole forever, I said, “OK, that’s enough.” I ended up starting to actually MAKE the Crait graphic from a collection of 272 images:
Picking a Color Palette
Obviously, the dominant colors of Crait are red and white, so the aesthetic had to be based in red and white. My first instinct was to make a duotone aesthetic using only red, white, and black/grayscale. Something like this:
Which... I don’t hate, or even dislike. It’s definitely more in line with popular Tumblr aesthetic, uh, aesthetics. But I usually don’t like landing on that kind of coloring because it ALWAYS, ALWAYS whitewashes people of color (and jeez, it even whitewashes white people -- look at the model in the fourth frame down on the left, or Luke in the bottom-left.) The “vibrance -100 + Selective Color Red>Red + 100″ always ends up doing the above example to, in this case, Poe: turning him into a licorice man.
So then trying to correct THAT either whitewashes the FUCK out of him/people in general:
(Toning down the red)
Or introducing other colors back into the graphic as a whole:
(Upped yellow and cyan.)
So I nixed that coloring before I even started. (These examples were made after the fact purely to serve as examples.)
I went back to the drawing board, AKA the Crait image folder.
But looking at the collected images -- especially the screencaps and the panels from the Storms of Crait comic -- I was struck by how much Crait also incorporates yellow and blue. (Note that I really, really wanted to try to include Trusk Berinato and Bail Organa... but we’ll talk through why that didn’t work out.) I LOVE @droo216‘s bright, almost jewel-tone edits which I 100% know I don’t have either the patience or skill to make, but I liked the idea of trying to make Crait’s aesthetics in a primary colors + black/white scheme.
Which I actually really like! (Again, made post-facto as an example.) But again, red vibrance DiD tHe tHiNG!!! to Poe and ESPECIALLY to Finn and Bail.
So a high-vibrance look emphasizing bright colors was a no-go. Besides, going back to the source material: high-vibrance and high-energy are the opposite of what the planet of Crait is about. It’s a dying husk of a planet, being killed slowly by its own ecology as the salt in its crust dries out everything beneath it, sucking up water until everything either evolves into living crystal-dogs or goes extinct (thank u Rilo for not including dune-worms, this is the one thing you did right). Crait wouldn’t be vibrant.
But... aha! It’s also distinctly layered. I’ve done three-panel swworlds aesthetics before, so I decided to do that for Crait, too: first a mostly-white graphic like the salt crust, then white+red+yellows in the middle, and finally a dark layer of almost entirely red like the mineral mines.
Choosing Images from Collection
With the color palette and “feel” decided (dying at the surface, then growing richer and redder and angrier as the photoset moved downwards), I was able to choose images.
NEKKID PHOTOSETS SANS ANY EDITING! XXX! But for reference to see both cropping and for reference on choosing.
TOP IMAGE, MOSTLY WHITE:
L-R, TOP-BOTTOM:
I saved this image from my dash at some point and have been tossing it into planets’ folders every time there’s a white-based color scheme. It almost got used for Ilum, but at the last second wasn’t. I felt like it fit the coalescence of Rey’s Force strength here, and also the kind of “last wisps” of Luke Skywalker, well.
“Lifting rocks.”
I’m actually still not 100% whether I should have landed on a vulptex here, but dammit they were one of the only good parts of TLJ. This vulpie baby is on the salt surface, looking out at the blinding sun, so she seemed like a good fit compared to the other caps of vulptices -- the ones loping on the canyon surface at the end were all very motion-blurry.
Carrie in that gorgeous coat in homage to Harrison in Blade Runner makes me weepy, and those were some of the most beautiful shots in the movie. This one had a good balance of white and black, so it could be placed around any level “busyness” in the surrounding photos. Especially since I suckkkk at negative space.
I saved this image to the Crait folder like the day it was announced as a planet in the upcoming Episode VIII and given its first peek. I love it!
Hi, salt flats, and also Star Wars spaceships. I actually had a lot of trouble with the level of green in this image, but the ~essence of Star Wars is PEW PEW SPACE BATTLE, so.
This is an ice sculpture in real life! It reminds me of the vulptices and is cool as hell.
The Millennium Falcon! I toyed with different caps that showed it in actual battle, but the blue would have been hardest to work with in this photoset compared to the others below. Plus, now I can save a bunch of Falcon-in-flight pictures for use on planets that only appear in the novels or comics.
NECESSARY, ICONIC, PERFECT, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT HAPPENED ON CRAIT.
Fine, this is a snowy mountain and not a salt flat, but I liked the striations in color and gentle variations in grayscale.
This was the palest/least Bright Blue sky of all of the Falcon screencaps from Crait.
I tried a few screencaps of Crait from TLJ, but I landed on using the full-panel image of Crait from Storms of Crait. It has the cleanest definition of the “planet from space” options we have of Crait.
This is a promo image, not a screencap. It’s a much crisper view of the ski-speeders. I love the vivid color difference.
The blue-and-yellow additions to the color scheme didn’t work out, but I did still want to include Storms of Crait. This shot had a little more blue in it than I would have liked, but it has Leia in a ski-speeder back before the salt caused them to rust out, too!
Remember when it seemed like the Crait battle’s new AT-ATs would be super cool and like, do more than stand there menacingly behind Kyle? Me, too.
POE! DAMERON! HAS! NEVER! DONE! ANYTHING! WRONG! IN! HIS! LIFE!
KYLE! HAS! ONLY! EVER! DONE! WRONG! IN! HIS! LIFE!
I tried out like five different tiny-frame-difference screencaps of the ski-speeders kicking up red minerals, and I decided that this one, with a clearly defined spray of red surrounded by white and bluish sky, suited the placement here best: there’s red in the panel to its left as the main color, but minimal red in the above- and below panels.
I wanted to include actual Connix, but she’s wearing yellow and only ever shows up surrounded in brownish-black darkness, so here, have one of my standard Fashion Rebel Officer Stand-Ins instead -- the red and white obviously played a part in picking this shot over the rest of the options from the photoshoot.
I LOVE this slightly mystical shot of a Rebel pilot slash astronaut on a rain-slicked salt flat. How perfect?!
As we get down to the bottom of this middle panel, I wanted to include more destruction and more presence of yellow and orange. This image has a good balance of “negative space” in the sky and salt flat, and then the explosion of Nodin Chavri’s ski-speeder (I think?) ties in well to...
Finn and Rose, post-collision. I wanted to include Rose, and the almost JJ Abrams-esque white starburst in the center of this cap is a good balance to the spray of red around a ski-speeder two panels above.
Luke on Crait in the Rebel Alliance...
And Luke on Crait in the Resistance.
This was a kind of “????” moment of characterization -- and general direction -- in TLJ, but Luke surrounded by red as an old man would fall right below Luke as a young man, on his first mission after the Battle of Yavin, when the three graphics were aligned.
I wanted to use the straight-up concept art of the vulptex, but the black around it was TOO black, if that makes sense? So I layered it over a darkened cap of the vulptex who leads Poe to Rey and freedom. This is one of the very rare shots that I use an edited base image.
Han and Chewie! I had to include Han and Chewie. The unlettered panels from Storms of Crait that show the mineral mines are stunning; I highly recommend heading over to Mike Mayhew’s page and taking a look. The detailing of the crystals is something I wish I could have captured better at this scale.
This is one of the red-sand dunes I saved! Crait doesn’t have any living vegetation, but the drama of the black, stormy sky and the red sand drew me in here.
Some CGI crystal caves... I saved these ages ago for use on Ilum or Dantooine, I think? (Same with what will be #11 below.) I don’t love using CGI, but I think the crags on these crystal growths suited the images from canon!Crait.
A screencap of the TIEs chasing the Falcon through the mines. This was honestly one of the most visually stunning parts of TLJ, and it’s so split-second that most people missed it AND most of the screencaps have a lot of motion-blur. I’m really pleased that this one came out so crisp, and I knew I had to use it as an “anchor image.”
Finn, full-on, in red. I’m realizing belatedly as I write up this tutorial that I showed Poe face-on and Finn face-on, but I stupidly chose to show Rey only from a distance. I AM A FOOL! A FOOL!
Aren’t these resin crystals amazing? The full-size image actually shows them surrounded by snow, by the tree-stump they’re on wouldn’t fit Crait, so I cropped in closer on this image than I did for most of the Crait set.
Another shot of the Falcon in the mines. I like the way the framing of white sunlight here echoes...
Leia’s face, a bright spot in the dark, watching out over the salt flat. :(
(See #5 above!)
And again, the homage of Carrie’s coat looking like Harrison in Blade Runner made me sad, so I THREW IN ANOTHER HAN AND CHEWIE. The mining equipment here shows more detail than in the screencaps above, too.
Coloring
Like I mentioned waaaay above, in the intro: I never use set colorings for photosets. (Except Halloween Spookstravaganza, because jeez so many of those screencaps are like 240p VHS rips and it’s just not worth putting in Effort(TM).)
That said, I think one thing that I do differently than I see in most tutorials is this first step:
I ALWAYS start Aesthetic photosets by arranging the images and then *BRINGING THE CONTRAST ALL THE WAY DOWN.* This is especially helpful on photosets that include a mix of real photography, CGI screencaps or art, and/or comics panels, but it’s also just useful in general for photosets that use images from a wide variety of places.
The reason I do this is because it helps to “smooth out” the differences in light source, color balance, etc., that are part of the raw base images. For this set, it also helps to define the variations in color between very similar shades: the craters on Crait, the wisps of clouds, etc.
In some cases, I’ll do two layers of Contrast -50. For Crait, I did a later of Contrast -50 and then a layer of Contrast -15.
Then, I Select All > Copy Merged > [Turn Off Contrast Layer View] > Paste As New Layer.
Now, the “smoothed” version is placed as a layer above the raw layer. From there, it depends on the look of the photoset what I do -- sometimes, I leave it as-is, but I almost always lower the opacity on the “smoothed” layer until the level of contrast and balance looks consistent across the whole photoset. For Crait, I ended up with the “smoothed” layer set to Lighten 100%.
Selective Color time. There are two ways I usually start this: either one color at a time -- especially for Aesthetics like Pheryon that will essentially be monochromatic -- or, in this case, I looked at the balance of the three main colors that would carry through the entire Aesthetic.
REDS
Cyan -100 (This brightens the vivacity of the red.) Magenta +100 Yellow +100 Black +35
BLACKS
Cyan 0 Magenta 0 Yellow 0 Black +100
WHITES
Cyan 0 Magenta 0 Yellow 0 Black +100 -- This is NOT my usual setting for adjusting white, and since white is one of the main colors in the Crait Aesthetic, it might seem counterintuitive to make the white darker instead of brighter. However, this will help to make next step of color adjustments “take” on the white/whitish surfaces a lot more easily, and it will also help to balance out the bluish sky areas with the white background areas. (I’m not sure this explanation makes sense? But it’s what I did.)
Then, I Select All > Copy Merged > [Turn Off Selective Color Layer View] > Paste As New Layer > Either COLOR or HUE 100%.
“Hue” is more effective for smaller, more incremental color adjustments -- for BIG SWEEPING COLOR CHANGES, “Color” tends to work better. But it totally depends on the photoset! Try both, and see which you like better.
I feel like this is kind of the step where my process of making aesthetics stops being any different from most tutorials -- but this has been HUGELY helpful for me, a non-graphic designer-person, to be able to create a kind of “base image” that has very similar color values, brightness/contrast, and vibrance.
Sometimes this step helps to create really extreme color differences, such as in the Raydonia Aesthetic, and other times, I use it to just adjust one or two color-values so that there’s more consistency in, say, shades of yellow or shades of green, as in the Takodana Aesthetic, for which I just wanted to create a more cohesive palette of green in particular... it started out with a zillion greens, and I wanted to bring it all together into one “aesthetic.”
I think this step, and the reasoning behind it, are why SO MANY PSDs for aesthetics rely on a layer of either gray or sepiatone-ish set to Darken or Multiply as one of their key layers. But I’m just not about the grimdark life, and if I’m making an AESTHETIC OF A THING, I want the aesthetic POST to actually HAVE THAT THING’S AESTHETICS, you know?! I want to use the colors of the thing that I’m saying is meant to evoke the visuals of the thing!
Anyway. Now you have your BASE IMAGE. Often I’ll Merge All here, just for my own sanity.
Then I go in and make any other other adjustments on a “coloring” level that I think will help with the “vibe” I’m going for! For this Crait set, I definitely needed to bring the brightness up so that the white and red popped. However, bringing up the brightness also swallowed a lot of the detail in the white surfaces -- especially the planetary surface of Crait in that bottom-right space -- so I decreased the contrast again.
Brightness +70 Contrast -50
And then I go in for the macro-level adjustments of color using any mix of Selective Color, Hue/Saturation, and Color Balance that works. For Crait, that was more Selective Color, because since I had decided on my color palette, and it sadly did not include blue, I needed to start by taking out as much of the blue, cyan, and green that I could.
And I’m ngl, I told myself the WHOLE FREAKING TIME I was making this photoset that I needed NOT TO DELETE THE PSD RIGHT AWAY LIKE I USUALLY DO so that I could write up all the settings for this step.
But it was a reflex. And I deleted the PSD right away like I always do.
So suffice to say, I just futzed with the levels one at a time until the RED was brought up a little, the YELLOW was brought up a lot, and everything else was brought down and/or hue-adjusted to sliiiide into being yellow, red, or black/white.
Another Select All > Copy Merged > [Turn Off Selective Color Layer View] > Paste As New Layer > Either COLOR or HUE 100%. I think I also DUPLICATED this layer and set it to SOFT LIGHT 50% and then duplicated it again to SCREEN 50%.
I could have left it like this, but I am me and I am nothing if not Extra All The Time, so I opened up my folder of light textures (and other textures) and decided to Go To Town.
Textures & Effects
For your Aesthetic-Making Purposes, here are the three I used on the Crait set:
The first two were set to Screen 100%, and the bottom one was set to Burn 15%. I layered them in this order.
It still looked incomplete, so I decided to use this POWDR Element from Creative Market, which is actually like 5400x5400 pixels and which I’m not going to share here because I paid for it and don’t want CM to revoke my access or whatever, but it looks like this, only HUGE:
I also set this element to Burn 15% and moved it around the image until it looked the way I wanted it.
Textures and effects aren’t In on Tumblr anymore, but I really like using them -- they add, not to be cheesier than usual, texture to an aesthetic post, and I think that they can also help less-skilled graphic-makers like me to hide any myriad of imperfections in coloring, sharpening, whatever. I’m an especially big fan of this noise element (set as a pattern on Screen), so I’m going to share it here even though I didn’t use it on the Crait set:
Most of my textures have been saved over the last literally twenty years since I started making fannish graphics and photosets, largely from defunct old LiveJournals, but there also used to some great sources for them on Tumblr and still are live sources for them on DeviantArt. Just search around and you’ll find what you want! :)
In conclusion, I think it’s infinitely more fun NOT to rely on premade PSDs or standardized Settings, but I also recognize and fully respect that if I made graphics differently, I would probably get easily 5-10x more notes on each post than I do. But I make graphics the way that’s fun for me, and I just try to learn a little something from every set I make. The GFFA Planets/swworlds in particular have been something that I started, originally, because I wanted to catch up and learn about Star Wars planets that I felt like I was missing because I don’t have any fannish history with the Old EU, and I wanted to learn about them in a way that helped me feel like I was engaging with the SW source material AND making the enormity of the canon more accessible to other newish or casualish fans, like I was two years ago when I started this aesthetic series. I like making aesthetics that are genuinely inspired by the aesthetic of the thing that I’m calling it an aesthetic of, so even when it ends up just looking like rainbow barf (CURSE YOU, NAR SHADDAA!!!) I’m having fun.
THAT SAID, here’s how the time breakdown for the Crait set works out:
TOTAL TIME INCLUDING IMAGE COLLECTION AND SCREENCAPPING: Est. 20 hours.
COLORING AND ACTUAL GRAPHIC-MAKING PART: 7 hours.
WRITING UP THIS TUTORIAL: 5 hours.
So, um, if you are so inclined, here is my Ko-Fi link. I post at least two graphic sets every week, sometimes up to 25 (usually during October).
I hope this was helpful at all! I had a good time thinking about my process in-depth like this, and I would love to get tagged in any aesthetics you might try making using a similar method! :)

there’s glitter on the floor after the party...
Taylor,
*About 9 days ago, on May 22nd, 2018, I had just arrived home from your Seattle show at CenturyLink Field. It was 4am and I couldn’t sleep. I had so much on my mind and was still on a high from your show. So, in the early hours of the morning, after my friends had long gone to bed, I began to write. I’ve revised my original note quite a bit since then. I’ve also had the opportunity to do some additional reflecting since tour, and I have some thoughts. So, I guess this is the end-result of a mash-up of 4AM overly-emotional rambling, combined with well thought-out, fully coherent, mature writing. I feel like I really over-explained this. I could have been a lot less-awkward in setting this up. Let's just get into it:
[SO. I just got home from your Seattle show. It's 4 am and I can't sleep. This was my 6th tour, and I made what seems like an infinite amount of unforgettable memories with a group of incredible people I call my ‘Swiftie Fam” (the name needs work...). There's Cecil (my long-time, Canadian Swiftie friend, you’ll see him in earlier posts), Wanda (Cecil’s wife), Kaeden (7. Cecil & Wanda’s son. Major Swiftie. His first concert!), and finally the beautiful Maile (a recent addition to the fam, and now a life-long friend!). It’s hard to explain in words, but we all have developed a connection that’s special and unique because of what we experienced together. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to stand by my side tonight. We danced, laughed, and cried together… I don’t think I’ve ever felt more understood. These people ‘get’ me.
Not surprisingly, I screamed every single lyric at the top of my lungs and subsequently lost my voice almost IMMEDATIELY. With that in mind, I suppose a more accurate description would be: I wasn’t so much singing, as I was gasping for the remainder of the show. I literally danced with until I was out of breath. I cried (ok, SOBBED) all of my make-up off (a Long Live/NYD mash-up… are you kidding me?! I FEEL ATTACKED).
By the end of the night, I resembled a pathetic, overly-emotional, glittery, drowned rat.
and I was living my absolute best life.
Also, I was REALLY proud of our outfits this time around! I think we did a decent job of recreating your Direct TV commercial, with my rainbow two-piece, and Cecil’s interpretation of Olivia Benson dressed as a Caticorn (I can’t say I ever thought I’d use that in a sentence). It consisted of around 8-10 hours total of gluing, painting, and hand-sewing, leading up to the show. Everything turned out awesome, way better than expected. Totally worth the man hours! Wanda hand-made matching these adorable matching t-shirts for her and little Kaden (Big Rep & Little Rep), and Maile constructed a beautiful MASTERPIECE from the mountain LYWMMD outfit- it was freakin’ incredible and HOT!
There was something a bit different about this tour for a couple of reasons:
[The production.] I don’t think I’ve experienced such sensory-overload in my LIFE. The whole time it was like a constant stream of frantic, internal dialogue with a lot of run-on sentences, like, “WHAT IS HAPPENING SHE’S GIVING US CHOREO OMG YAAASSS WERK HONEY IF A MAN TALKS SHIT WE DON'T OWE HIM A DAMN THING OH MY GOD ITS RAINING CONFETTI I MUST COLLECT IT I HOPE THESE MULTI-COLORED FLASHING LIGHTS DON’T GIVE ME AN EPILEPTIC ATTACK WHERE THE F-CK DID THESE GIGANTIC SNAKES COME FROM THERE ARE LITERALLY STAGES EVERYWHERE I’M OVERWHELMED OH SHIT SHES PULLING A SPEAK NOW BY WALKING THROUGH THE CROWD WHAT'S GOING ON OH GOD F-CKING FIREWORKS THESE VOCALS ARE LIT THO I'M SWEATING I’M DEFINITELY GONNA NEED THERAPY AFTER THIS NEW YEARS DAY/LONG LIVE MASH UP IS THAT A FOUNTAIN WHATS HAPPENING OH GOD IT’S REAL WATER AND SHE’S IN THE FOUNTAIN I’M HAVING A 2008 SHOULD’VE SAID NO ACM AWARDS FLASHBACK MOMENT HOLY SH-T MORE F-CKING FIREWORKS SO MUCH PYRO IS THIS EVEN LEGAL” I’ve gotta say, you have BEST band (Paul, Amos and Mike..OGS), vocalists (Eliott and Kamilah…the TALENT), and all the dancers. Every single person on that stage was on FIRE, and their talent, passion, and individual personalities made the night sparkle.
[The fans.] I freaking adore this fan culture. I’ve never met a Swiftie who wasn’t ridiculously friendly, welcoming, and super relatable. The vibe was so positive. I’ve never smiled, waved and taken pictures with so many random strangers in my life. It felt as if we were literally in a different world that day. It felt like home.
[YOU!.] We need to talk about this major GLO UP you’ve got going on, honey. You exude SO much confidence and you're just pure sunshine. When I think about the way you’ve carried yourself these past couple of years through all of the BS drama, I can’t help but feel damn proud. You’ve successfully converted pain into art, into music. Real music, that’s poignant, raw, and just BAD ASS. Your lyrics continue to foster a special connection you maintain with the audience...a connection that often times breathes life into brokenness.
I felt like the luckiest girl in the entire world tonight.
This may have been my best concert experience ever, which is actually pretty ironic because:
Unlike Red, I wasn’t in the Pit
I didn’t have VIP seating, like 1989
You weren’t close enough for any potential high fives, waves, or eye contact like I experienced at Speak Now at B-Stage
We were not chosen for Rep Room (or T-Party, Club Red, or Loft 89)
…But, it was OK. It was way more than OK. It was truly a dream.
Listen: Something I've always deeply admired about you is that you make it a priority to maintain a personal relationship with the fans. It’s clear you want to meet as many of us as possible, and you make a conscious effort to do so. You get to know us as individuals and you CARE, and that means everything us and makes such an impact. I mean, you invite us into your HOME for crying out loud, you walk through massive crowds and give high-fives, you lurk our Instagrams and Tumblrs and interact on social media, and you always make a notable effort to meet as many of us as possible at tour.
However, this can sometimes turn into a bit of a "Catch 22" situation for people. The downside, is that it’s honestly SUPER easy to fall into the “trap” of being consumed with the possibility of meeting you after your shows. Due to the fact that the “selection” process is both intentional, yet also random. To be transparent, it's quite difficult to not obsess with the idea of ‘trying’ to get chosen. I witness this behavior so often, in others and in myself just as much, if not more. Selfishly, I often feel not only jealous, but UPSET when I see photos/read experiences of other fans meeting you. I sometimes feel like the only one who hasn’t yet gotten the opportunity. It can quickly turn into a mind-game if you're not careful, which has the potential to become toxic if we allow the idea of meeting you to rule supreme over what it's actually about...which is the MUSIC. And, this amazing show you put on for us night after night. And somewhat understandably so, I've witnessed the obsession with being chosen to meet you become a main focus point for a lot of us (including myself a bit!). It's pretty stressful, and can easily dampen or cheapen the concert experience, if you're not careful. As dramatic as this probably sounds, Tumblr (and social media) can be brutal within this fandom, and dare I say ‘cut-throat’ at times. It's easy to get upset watching (what seems like) literally EVERYONE get that opportunity, except you.
That said, I had a wake-up call/mini-epiphany recently, which manifested while driving home from your show at Midnight on May 22nd with my friends, feeling so amazing and so grateful for what I just experienced…but also a little guilty because I feel like I’ve spent way too much time worrying about the possibility of meeting at you when you come to Seattle, how to get the attention of Taylor Nation, where to find Mama Swift, getting that guitar pick from Papa Swift, and this time was no different. Granted, my intentions are 100% pure and it’s only because you’ve meant so freakin much to me for so many years, and it's almost as if my life won’t be complete until I finally get to tell you in person. That said, there is certainty a valuable lesson to be learned here. I am confident that you and I will come face-to-face one day (hopefully with my Swifie fam!). The stars will align at the exactly the right time, and I will have my moment with you, and it will be SO worth the wait. You can't "force" stuff like this, you know? The privilege of meeting you is almost ‘sacred’ in a sense. At least in my opinion. Anyway, my point is: I refuse to a continue to attempt to “create fate” by attempting to "earn" my worthiness in fandom. It’s not productive, it's not healthy, and it’s not cute.
Alright, this is getting out of hand. I need to wrap this up. 🤣 I’m not sure whether or not you’ve seen any of my throwback photo-posts I posted the week leading up to the show. They definitely explain a lot more about me, and my history being a fan. Either way, I must reiterate how grateful I am to have you in my life, and that support you 100% and will always be here. The amount of hope, joy and comfort you've given me over the past 10+ years is insurmountable, and I'll never be able to repay you for that. And I mean that in the most sincere way. Not a lot of things make me as happy as you make me (especially lately). This experience was the ‘boost’ I needed, I think. And like I said, the relationship I have with my friends/Swiftie Fam is invaluable, and I look forward to making memories with them at your shows in the future. You’ve brought the most random group of people together and created a bond that’s unique, unconditional and unbreakable, and I think that’s so cool.
This was A LOT longer than I originally intended it to be. This escalated quickly. Haha. Thanks for listening. 💗
Don’t read the last page…]

JUST HOW MUCH Does BarkBox Cost a complete month?
puppy teething toys
There are many more exciting things which are possible to instruct your dog to accomplish. If your dog will be outside in sunlight then you ought to take that extra steps to safeguard them from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Your dog demands special services to be sure it stays healthy and happy. Dogs are thought of as man’s best friend. Other dogs could be excitable or superior strung. Aging dogs will need to have brain games to keep to keep their thoughts sharp merely. About everyone loves to see a cute dog simply. Following the dog is former its typical lifespan, it shows many of the signs of human later years normally. The pet dog has to discover how accurately to have the smaller sized toys out. People that say that it’s costly to adopt pet dogs would have experienced the problems related to an ill doggie. There are certainly likely to be a lot of ways that you may get your pet dog to prevent the behavior. I’ve always really loved buying Klaus toys because his excitement is so obvious. This is a doggie who appreciates the fact that I found something for him truly, or at least it appears enjoy it. Unlike my cats who actually couldn’t care much less about obtaining presents that aren’t edible. Obviously, when Barkbox reached out to find if Klaus wish to execute a review I jumped on the opportunity.
Let’s execute a quick run-down of what BarkBox is and what they provide; BarkBox is a regular subscription box for dogs of all sizes. Each box comes with two hand bags of treats, one chew, and two toys. Everything is tied with a style together. All of the treats are organically grown and made in the united states or Canada. BarkBox is billed monthly, and decreases in price if you commit to 6 or 12 month plan. You also have the option to join the Extra Toy Club for an additional $9 per month. The first box ships instantly and subsequent boxes ship on the 15th of each month.
toy chihuahua
Klaus getting a whole package of items was the absolute cutest! A toy would be taken by him, stepped on to the other aspect of the living area, established it down, and operate back to find what else we'd for him. The container he received was NEW YORK themed. “Poo York City actually! ” I must say i enjoyed all of the silly has on words within the package. “Pawsonalize. ” “Guaranpeed. ” “Barkefeller Center. ” So cute! He’s not picky about treats so it was no surprise that he cherished those (As seen in one of the images above, Professor was also very considering the bag of treats. A few days later he would rip open the bag and try to steal them. ) The toys were a huge hit too. I’ve mentioned previously how much Klaus enjoys squeaky toys therefore i was stoked to discover that both of the playthings in his container had squeakers. I was somewhat worried about the playthings not supporting for lengthy though. Klaus is normally a selective gizmo destroyer meaning there are playthings that he shreds instantaneously but something of an identical quality might last for a few months for no particular cause. Been in regards to a couple weeks it’s, and surprisingly more than enough he hasn’t destroyed either gadget. Better fresh is that he learned a fresh favorite toy even, a ball shaped just like the statue of libertyHe literally bears it everywhere, and is continually inserting it about my arm hoping that I’ll make an effort to steal it from him. Mmm. I really like soggy toys. He's currently laying beside me on the couch with that ball under his chin. When he finally does destroy that toy I can actually buy him another from the BarkShop, which is a way to acquire toys and treats without the subscription. Klaus really, really enjoyed the whole experience. So much to ensure I would honestly feel guilty not doing this for him every month. Barkbox was hit! At the risk of sounding cliche, and using the same silly phrase everyone who has ever written an assessment has said probably, I believe Klaus would up give it two paws! xoxoBarkBox Review

Alternative miniature manufacturers
Riding the wave of last week’s post, I decided to create a collection of all the alternative miniatures manufacturers I know of. You can look for the best proxy using the info in this thread or just start a gang for some minor rules-only game. I wish Tumblr had the possibility to make “sticky posts” but they seem not to exist so I hope Google will index this page for ease of reference. I will, of course, keep it up to date with all my new findings as I stumble upon them.
I had this thread in mind for some time but I still don’t know how to organize the contents to maximize readability. The first solution I came up with is writing the name of the site and link the various section and/or link the more prominent miniatures below. Feel free to suggest improvements if you so wish.
Kromlech
This site has huge amounts of Ork models. I mean... A LOT! And they’re also super-cool so if you are an Ork player, give this a good look. For example:
Goliath mines - cute moving mines. Not being an Ork player I don’t know if they are playable but they are really cute.
Ironshark jetbike - simply wow!
They also carry a wide selection of scenic bases and many Nurgle proxies so you might be interested even if you don’t play Orcs.
Warmonger Miniatures
I came to this site looking for paint combinations. It seems they also have their colors system but they surely have a huge line of fantasy miniatures. They are in the old Warhammer Fantasy Battles style and will probably fit as proxies or additional units for out of production units. The pictures on the site say more than words so, be sure you check out all the different factions! Here I just show you some good looking models:
Plague doctors - They’re simply awesome.
Karliki - I’m not the dwarf type of guy but this dude is great!
Elven spearmen - These can be easily painted to be Dark Elves!
Eureka minis
This is another huge site to source your miniatures. Maybe it’s not ideal to source Warhammer proxies but the amount of figures they sell is so vast that you may easily find something you like in there! Their range of miniatures varies between fantasy miniatures and realistic modern warfare figurines that also come in multiple scales. They have so many minis that you should really sit in front of their site for half an hour to get a grasp of the whole picture. Moreover, they are the home of “Pond Wars” one of the cutest miniatures lines I’ve ever seen. Check it out! Here are some minis I love:
Frog king - Reminds me of WHFB second edition Slann... may work as a replacement too if you don’t own the original.
Ethereal - You can use this in your undead armies, whatever the game you’re playing. It’s just a piece of floating cloth but they make it look so dynamic!
Soviet NCO - A Soviet agent with a gas mask! Fuck yeah!
Ironclad Miniatures
I already mentioned this site in the previous post about proxies because I bought two of their Steam Tanks to use in my Death Guard army. However, they’re not just that: they also carry many 28 mm figurines and terrain pieces like bunkers and trenches.
Ruins - You can use them in all kind of wargames ‘cause, you know... war=ruins, no matter the setting.
British Grenadier - Go and fight with that hat!
Sanwar - Star Wars, anybody?
Miniature Scenery
Another Aussie site that mainly consists of laser cut MDF terrain but also sells vehicles. The quality and complicatedness of the design are awesome... I was seriously thinking about buying their heavy tank for Warhammer 40k purposes but then I moved to the cheaper and more fluff-oriented steam tanks choice. You will agree with me that this tank can easily proxy all those kick-ass Forgeworld tanks easily. It is pricey but I think it is worth. I will probably buy one someday... If you need MDF terrain this site may be one of your best bets.
Imperial ruins - To use in 40k
Pagoda - To use in MERCS or Infinity
Dwelling - To use in Fantasy or Age of Sigmar
Buzzard - Viable Heldrake proxy?
Well, you have a lot of terrain and vehicle choices that do not really look like cheap MDF... they do come at a slightly high price though.
TTcombat Scenics
I have been eyeballing this site for a while because I wanted some cheap MDF terrain pieces for my Warlord death army (the project is sleeping now ‘cause I have nobody playing this game around me). They mainly sell their own MDF terrain but they recently became Dropzone/Dropfleet commander authorized retailers so you can also buy miniatures for those games from them. This is particularly juicy for me as I will need DFC miniatures in the future and I can combine shipping this way! Here I link you some nice products I’ve been looking at for quite some time:
Cyber defense platform - Nice to use as terrain in a Necron army! Too bad I don’t play Necrons...
Industrial Hive - I would like to buy this to combine with my Pegasus Toxic plant but then I will need a full house just to play MERCS or WH40k! It’s super tempting though.
Riftgates - The cheap alternative to the Baleful Realmgates in Age of Sigmar. You save something like 90 $...
Ramshackle Games
This is a small miniature company in Nottingham, like GW back in the days... but way grungier! Take a look at the vast selection of post-apocalyptic miniatures they offer and you will agree with me they can be used in a lot of futuristic miniature games. They have a semi-complete catalog to download here. Take a look at these great miniatures:
Gorillagon - May work as a proxy for some Nurgle dude
Chicken - He may be swollen and overweight but he always eats his cereals for breakfast!
Rhebok tank - This may be the perfect Plagueburst Crawler proxy!
This company does not only make miniatures but they also commercialize games. It seems they also had a successful Kickstarter in 2017 for a game called Mini Gangs but I didn’t hear of it and, therefore, I missed it... looks like an awesome gang game though so, I’m a little salty. I hope they release it soon. Meanwhile, I will download the free version of their Nuclear renaissance game (pdf rules here) and see if it looks interesting. I may buy the book if I find the system interesting and IF I find somebody to play it with...
eBay
I go with this last as everybody knows it. It is not strictly a “miniature” manufacturer but you can find almost everything in here. I usually source the test models for my color schemes on eBay and also many proxies. As I wrote in the previous post, most of my Chronopia proxies come from eBay but I also found 2nd edition 40k models and a bunch of Tyranid gargoyles on sprue for a ridiculously low price. If you are into that kind of thing, “Forgeworld” models are also available for reasonable prices. You should definitely check it out if you can. I write here a couple of shops that always carry interesting deals or interesting models:
The Troll Trader - cheap used GW models
Games Thriftshop - cheap used GW models (This may have somewhat lower quality models but is probably the cheapest. I tend to favor this one)
Warex Mini - Original resin models designed to be used as Warhammer 40k proxies. Mostly Chaos and Tau but they also have all the other factions. You just have to use your fantasy to match the names. Have a look at some completely dope alternative sculpts:
Typhus
Mortarion
Leman Russ
Tau Lady sniper
Ok, let’s say I put an end to this post for today but I want to keep it updated as I find new pages and new miniature manufacturers. I hope you like the idea of having a hub to put all the info together. If you want to contribute, please write your preferred sources in the comments and I will be very glad to add them here!
... game on!

EXO’rDIUM DOT experience!! Day 1 at hotel + Day 1 concert day
AHello!!!! Yes! I will be writing about my EXO’rDIUM DOT experience!! Let’s get started!!
So I have actually got my tickets through SMC&C global package tour by SM!! The package I got was Superior package, which was one package better than economy, but lower than Deluxe and Premium of course! (Because I am not that rich hahahah)
During my period of stay in Korea, I received my confirmation email from SMC&C regarding my confirmation for the concert package + my accomodation location!
So basically my package was Superior package with C course! The type of courses change each time there is a concert, so better check when you are booking for your tickets!
Superior package with C course : second cheapest course for 4D3N stay at allocated hotel by SMC&C, which means I attended both days concert of EXO’rDIUM DOT in Seoul!
I was assigned to IBIS STYLE AMBASSADOR SEOUL GANGNAM which was at Samseong station! Surprise surprise it was at Samseong station haha! (FYI COEX ARTIUM is at Samseong station lol!!) My hotel was a 10 minutes walk away from Samseong station exit 3!
Apparently, I did not take picture of my hotel room because I was just too tired and I knocked out after I came back from Vivapolo on 26th May after I checked in.
This was the same day EXO waterbottle was released and Baekhyun’s water bottle was sold out by evening asdfghjk I was so pissed but it’s ok, all is good.
SMC&C tour counter was only opened at 7pmkst at my hotel, however, I was out so I only reached back at my hotel at about 830pmkst and there was still lots of fans queuing up to collect the souvenirs and drawing of concert seats + surround viewing tickets!
Before my turn to draw my tickets, there was this pair of china fans who were under GP as well, they were so inconsiderate to the max! They were looking at the taiwan fans ticket seat section and judging them, mentioning that they did not get good seats etc, they spoke so loudly that the taiwan fan stared at them, but obviously they didn’t care. It’s so sad that they gave off this kind of vibe when all fans should be kind to one another...
Moving on! I had to draw tickets for both days concert on the same night! Apparently due to luck, both days tickets that was drawn was from the same section and same row!!! What kind of luck is that??
For day 1 I got C12, Row 2, seat 11 & 12 (aisle seats)
For day 2 I got C12, Row 2, seat 1 & 2 (aisle seats again!!!) Below is the seating plan for your reference LOL!
I was able to see the stage so clearly!! I even saw Shim Jaewon personally as the sound control was just behind my section~
In my GP, there are events for us to attend. You will either attend on 27th or 28th May morning, mine was assigned on 28th morning~ Basically they gave us tickets to watch EXOrDIUM in Seoul surround viewing! So I shall talk about this later in my day 2 post!
Souvenirs that was given to my package!
Message card from EXO, EXOrDIUM DOT pouch, EXO pen, hand mirror (the one on top of the pouch), sticker, message paper (to be written for exo), EXO logo paper clips, discount voucher (quite useless), mini poster (the poster tube was really big but such a small poster LOL), colour pencils (for us to use to write message to exo on the message paper) and an EXO’rDIUM DOT magnetic board with EXO members’ face magnetic....
and here are the photo of my goods ready for concert day wew! I really like the EXO band so much, the colours selected for Baekhyun and Chanyeol was so pretty!! (I wore it on my wrist to concert no joke)
So on Day 1 of concert day, I headed down to the venue at about 930amkst, and arrived at Jamsil stadium in less than 15minutes away as I was only 1 station away! I informed the tour desk the night before that I would be going to concert venue on my own and that I would like to collect my Merchandise goods at the concert venue itself! (basically if you don’t want to follow the tour, you have to tell the staff before hand!)
One should never forget to take photo!!!! Here’s me below!
So I walked around aimlessly to get myself well versed with the venue itself. The vibe of the whole place was really good and everyone was so excited for the concert as it has been almost a year since Kfans saw EXO again! (More than a year for me as I didn’t attend EXO’rDIUM in SG) I was awed by the atmosphere at Jamsil stadium, everything felt so unreal, I still couldn’t believe that I am about to meet EXO again, and meeting them at their home country, experience one of the most powerful concert here in Seoul with korean fans who are so dedicated towards exo!
As I walked around, I manage to collect some cute fansupport!! photos below~ (some photos were taken at home instead haha)
Got this Sehun transparent fan from this chinese fan, as I was alone, I only managed to get one. BUT CHEAPO JIA, I went to the other fan who was giving out this same fan and showed her my sehun official pcs and she gladly gave me another one!!!! (super not paiseh about this but since I am already there why not hahaha)
This really cute Suho, Chanyeol and Sehun mini square cards????
Randomyl got into this queue where this fan was giving out like emw stickers!!! All I wanted was Baekhyun emw sticker but it was already gone (damn it Baekhyun, your goods are always the first to be gone and sold out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so I got Chanyeol instead! please pardon my disgusting nails that I’ve been trying to hide all this while.......
In addition, I saw this 1,000won lottery event created by fans! Basically you choose photocards within a huge pile, there will be a paper inside the bag that says either you won something or not! Prizes ranged from mini standee to official albums to DOLLS YES EXO DOLLS OMG
So I just decided to give it a try... AND I WON AN XOXO ALBUM hahaha!! Lucky me!
So actually I did not collect a lot of fansupport on day 1 as I was just walking around aimlessly! Totally missed most of the fansupport I wanted to collect huhu...
So let’s talk about the main fansupport that I’ve been wanting to collect.... BAEKHYUNTOWN!!!! they create really pretty fansupports for Baekhyun!! Previously they did banners, this time round they did transparent fans (T-T if you know me well, I love handfans and emw stickets a lot a lot, so this fansupport was really special and meaningful to me!)
As I mentioned on my twitter... the queue for Baekhyuntown fansupport was really crazy, you can check out the tweet here.
The time allocated for Baekhyuntown fansupport to start was at 3pmkst... I started queuing at 130pmkst.... Can you actually imagine Baekhyun’s fame here in Seoul Korea??? It is insane!
All the Kfans was like “omg this is crazy, I thought it starts at 3pm???” then they start running to find the queue. It was really hectic but thank god I was queuing under the shade...
I almost cried when I got the fan from BAEKHYUNTOWN, that emotional rush was something I can never forget, my eyes were so watery upon receiving it!!!! I rushed off to take picture with my lightsick, it was so beautiful, so so so beautiful and mesmerizing...
On the side note, let me tell you something that happened, apparently this 2 kfans were queuing infront of me, when we were reaching the queue, one of them actually did not have a ticket! (requirements was d-day concert ticket + Baekhyun official photocards), so she asked her friend to queue behind me and she will pass her ticket after collectin! And so they did, but as they were passing the ticket, Baekhyuntown incharge actually caught their actions and told her girl, “please leave the queue as you have no tickets, your actions is not right and you will not be able to take the handfan”
ASDFGHJKL WHAT!! Can you imagine it? both of them queued for 1 1/2 hours just to get it but hopes were dashed when they got caught... so don’t try to cheat them, they know it better than you do...
Moving on, it was soon 5pmkst and I decided to move into the concert venue and get some rest before the concert started!
Obviously photos cannot be missed!
My EXO’rDIUM Baekhyun fan + Lightstick + EXO’rDIUM DOT Baekhyun transparent fan! I AM A BAEKHYUN TRASH!!!!!!
vimeo
I connected my lightstick to my Wyth app after entering the venue, apparently, after I connected my lightstick, it gets controlled by the sound check team! I didn’t even have to on my lightstick for the concert! It goes on on its own hehe, I was pretty amazed at it and thankfully to have personally experienced it myself!
As you guys already knew what happened during the concert, I will just briefly talk about a few things!! Some photos first!
Yes I witness Chanyeol’s AL infront of my eyes OTL sorry I didn’t focus the picture because I was too excited to see it...
I was actually a bit far from the stage on Day 1 tbh... but nevertheless, it was all good!
If you look at the phot below, Baekhyun is always directly infront of my eyes... I was so excited for Day 2 because... I would be even closer!!
Look at this beautiful silver ocean! I am happy to be part of this beautiful ocean at EXO’rDIUM!
I saw Sehun AL infront of my very eyes too??? But I couldn’t record any cause I was caught before I even could hahah!! However, I only manage to film a short part of LMR ending!!! (really short no kidding) and my photoshop takes forever to render the video... So I won’t be posting it here, I will upload to my twitter when it is ready!! Alongside with some Baekhyun fancam maybe~
As I don’t have any further pictures (because I was screaming instead if filming), let’s talk about how EXO came out from the screen and started singing LOTTO!!! I was so shocked to hear the legendary Lipstick Chateau sang by Baekhyun!! Ever since they performed on Music shows to promote Lotto album, I have been wanting to hear it live for myself. I feel really blessed to be able to witness Lotto with my very own eyes!! (and ears hahaha omg)
I felt so surreal that my wishlist for songs to be heard live has been fulfilled!!!
Monster, Lotto, Cloud 9, For Life, Drop That, Playboy, Artificial Lover, Love Me Right, Call Me Baby, Transformer and acoustics section of EXO’rDIUM by EXO!
I am especially thankful to have heard Lotto, Monster, Love Me Right and Transformer honestly, I really love that song so so much. I felt that these few songs have fully shown EXO’s potential fully in terms of vocal, rap and dance.
As day 1 concert slowly came to an end, I bid goodbye to EXO members with a heavy heart. I watched them slowly walked behind the screen, with the screen slowly closing on me, I felt so much regret, should I have screamed louder? Should I have jumped higher when they told us to?
But to our surprise, EXO came back again to the stage, with a big surprise! Support cards for EXO-Ls...
EXO-Ls, Let’s walk together~

The whole concert was really nothing but amazing. EXO members were so happy to be able to express themselves full to fans as there was no language barrier between EXO and fans. I am going to end this here because I want to fully express how I feel on my Day 2 post instead!!!

Comic heroes of all sort literally leap off the pages and onto our desks this week, along with more unprecedented high-end robot releases. We’ve also got a look an adorably deformed drivable, and precious Pokémon gewgaws. Then it’s back to my own acquisitions as I fuss with a new Marvel Legend! Welcome back for Tuesday Night Toys!
New Stuff: Merc-y Magic
Seems like I’ve looked at more Deadpool toys since I started this column. Granted, I’m not nearly as off on the metatextual mercenary as I once was, but it’s still odd that he keeps comin’ back around. Maybe it’s just because his toys have a knack for being cool. This latest one, a ‘Breaking the Fourth Wall’ statue by Good Smile, is a pretty spectacular-looking effort. It’s not all characters that can run a look like this, and it’s taken some talent to bring it into plastic, leaving me suitably impressed. More creative superhero stuff like this from you down the line, GSC?
Tamashii Nations was last weekend, and along with a bevy of new Figuarts from now-standby series Kamen Rider, Marvel, and WWE, there were also some new Dragonball reveals! And I do mean just ‘Dragonball’, the big new one being the kid version of Goku from the earliest stories of Akira Toriyama’s eternal epic. He looks like a sharp little figure, a great choice for those who still stand by the original as the best entry in the Dragonball saga, and hey, it even looks like he might come with a little Korin accessory!
Others were a smattering of tweaked versions of previous characters and figures, including Saiyan Saga versions of Tien and Yamcha, plus Gotenks, Majin Vegeta, and SS3 Goku. It’s a nice covering of story arcs in figural form, ensuring whatever iteration of Dragonball you’re most attached to, you’ll have something to be enticed by. Even if it’s just to crumple up Yamcha into his legendary death pose.
Also on display at Tamashii Nations was pretty big surprise for Soul of Chogokin: Gipsy Danger from that big robot movie everyone likes! SoC’s been a wild ride lately, putting out more western-friendly properties like GoLion/Voltron and Zyuranger/Power Rangers, and a release like this cements the idea that they’re reaching beyond their own shores for appeal. I’m pretty ambivalent towards Pacific Rim, but dang if this doesn’t make me curious about what they’ll do next.
Wishlist: Robattle
Good Smile’s combining two things I’m forever amused by: Nendoroids, and Mechatro WeGo. The perfectly marketable mecha will be getting a super-deformed version entered into GSC’s Nendo line, and if you thought it was cute before, it’s been squashed to those classic proportions pretty effectively here. It is pilotable too, though for reasons of cost and space, they’ve elected to make the mecha itself more standard Nendo size and design it to be crewed by Nendoroid Petits. So if you plan on getting this and want some cute Vocaloid or Type-Moon character to drive it, maybe think about getting a couple of those.
Collectible company Gray Parka Service has an amusing aside coming out: Pokémon themed snow globes! Mashing up a decent selection of Gen 1 starters and Eeveelutions, one or two of these things might make a nice decoration if any of them strike your fancy. They’re certainly a unique novelty and-Jesus Christ Charmander get out of the snow it could put your tail out you’ll die!!
On that same subject, RE-MENT just released these Pokémon crossing candy toy figures, and they’re just the cutest things. Now these would be fun desk-top companions, or adorable additions to a themed display of a particular Pocket Monster. I know I wouldn’t mind that Gengar.
On Desk: Holla Holla
Marvel Legends are kind of a hit-or-miss indulgence for me these days, as my comic reading has slowed down and my space dedicated to toys has had to be used more judiciously. The latest Spider-Man themed wave had some really cool stuff, but as much as I’d love that new 2099 costume or the goddamned Jackal, I couldn’t pull the trigger on them. But Ms. Marvel? Ms. Marvel I am down with.
At this point you’ve either read some of Kamala Khan’s comics and know what a breath of fresh air her delightful superhero antics are or you haven’t and you wonder why your life is a never-ending torrent of sadness. Point is, Kamala’s fun and she’s deserved an action figure for some time now. The Marvel Legend delivers on it in that reliable way we’ve come to expect from the line.
I really appreciate Ms. Marvel’s use of soft plastic. It allowed her scarf (which looks great, by the way) to come out of the package with no problem, and the skirt-style fabric around her waist moves with her legs with no trouble at all! The head is a bit restricted around the neck with the way the hair is sculpted, but otherwise it’s all the posability you expect from a modern action figure (gotta love them ankle tilts).
They did include a couple cool accessories: swappable stretched out hands for her left and right, in a fist and an open hand, respectively. I’m super-grateful for these, you gotta love how Kamala gets actual distinctive super-powers and not just standard flying and super-strength, and these parts swap out easy and look good. I kinda wish they had wrist articulation, but as-is, they’re still exactly what I could have asked for.
If you’ve been made a fan of her comic and were chomping at the bit for some plastic representation of Ms. Marvel, this Legends figure will do the job very nicely. There is a surprisingly cute and non-pervy Bishoujo statue of Kamala coming from Kotobukiya later, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she got a Marvel Select at some point, but for now, go ahead and grab this one if you see it.
Come on guys, do Gwenpool next
Good to see you everyone! Have fun until next week!

Title MO:Astray Developer Archpray Inc. Publisher Rayark Release Date October 25, 2019 (Steam), September 10th, 2020 (Switch) Genre Action Platformer, Metroidvania, Puzzle, Story Driven Platform Switch, Steam Age Rating Teen Official Website
MO:Astray is a game about a blob and its quest through an unknown place, on an unknown planet. The hook itself sounds promising. Traverse through numerous biomes wondering why your blob has gone astray, while trying to solve what happened along the way. When I was offered the opportunity to review MO:Astray, I had to hook my claws into it and was unprepared from the beginning how much it would wrench my heart. As always, I like to start my reviews off with this one question for the readers: Is this game fun?
Blob Time
From the very beginning of the game I knew I was going to fall in love. The intro screen, the tutorial afterwards, everything about this game so far touched my senses in a way that hasn’t been done in a very long time. The art style, the sound design, and the atmosphere behind the game screamed the following to me: this game is a passion project. So, I started a new game and selected from one of the four difficulty modes, Adventure (Hard).
During the tutorial, it starts off in a barren land. You’re a grey blob in the middle of a pool of water surrounded by various reeds and fauna. During this tutorial you learn how to move, jump, and stick to walls. To jump, you have to aim your blob first, and jumping has arcing in it, so your blob falls after a bit of time. The way the controls are designed feel good from the start, and I had no reason to swap any of my controls to different control settings. It’s a standard system, though here are your starting controls:
Move: Left Joystick or D-pad
Aim: Right Joystick
Jump: ZL
That’s it. Super simple, yet works very well for storytelling purposes in the beginning of the game. Later on, you get more abilities and upgrades that allow you to do more with your button scheme and setup.
It’s so cute!
As soon as it throws you into the first chapter, you’re greeted by a guide. However, she’s just a voice and recalls her past memories as you traverse through the game. The blob gets more physical features, some ears, a sign on its head, and a heads up display. At this point, the game actually starts.
Moving on, this game teaches you about hidden secrets from one of the earliest scenes – there’s blue blob fragments that cover specific areas. If you choose to follow these blob fragments, you’re greeted with your first Memory Fragment. These Memory Fragments are what help support and enforce the game’s story along the way as you try to piece together what happened to this place. Memory Fragments also give you a larger health pool when you collect five. You can view these Memory Fragments at any time under the “data collection” option in the pause menu.
Travelling through this abandoned area, you learn that the game isn’t nearly as innocent as it seems. There are traps, puzzles, and a mysterious pink fauna that kills you immediately upon touching it. Further on, you start to encounter Infected – previous inhabitants of this world that have turned into plant zombies. The game promotes the idea that you’re easily killable and does it well in the first scene with one of these Infected. Remember how I said that the early controls work for telling a story? This is what I meant. When the game limits you on your options and allows you to grow, it’s usually conveying a reason or purpose behind it. In this instance, the purpose is to give you anxiety as you’re running through the world.
Thankfully, if you die in this game, you respawn immediately at the beginning of the last checkpoint you triggered. This is really nice, because you will die a lot in MO:Astray – it’s no slouch when it shows its difficulty. That isn’t to say that you’ll stay weak forever in MO:Astray – your blob DOES progressively get stronger and stronger.
Oh boy. Not ready for this heartache.
Upgrades – there are quite a bit of them in this game, though I’m not going to spoil any of them excluding the first ability you get because it’s one of my favorite additions to a game, ever. Once you’re about fifteen percent of the way through the first chapter, you get the ability to jump on enemies’ heads after a mini tutorial by accidentally jumping into a experimentation vat. Mo can read the monsters’ memories, how they lived, view flashback cutscenes depending on the monster, and who they were before whatever disaster happened.
MO:Astray, in a subtle way, reminds you that these monsters were once living beings with their own thoughts, families, and ideals. The information it gives is their last thoughts before death, what career they had, their name, age, gender, and “resurrection permits.” These resurrection permits come in handy later when solving puzzles. It also doesn’t shy away from collecting these as there’s an entire log in the pause menu, under data collection, called “Monster Memories.”
A few of these memories throughout MO:Astray sent complete chills down my spine. Furthermore, these Monster Memories help to further piece together the lore and the disaster that fell upon this land.

Mo:Astray is difficult, but in a good way! The platforming is fun and interactive, and incredibly challenging based on what difficulty you chose to begin with. The game changes platforming sections if you play on different difficulties, with easy and normal having some traps removed. You can see how many times you’ve died by selecting a chapter and hovering over individual areas – I died a total of 341 times on Adventure (Hard) difficulty.
Variety-wise, the game does very well in showing the differences between each individual area as well as individual monsters, puzzles, and platforming traps – this variety helps keep the game fresh and alive throughout the entire experience. MO:Astray has a keen eye for game design as no one area felt unfair, even though I died literally hundreds of times throughout my playthrough. Game design in general for this game is well done, as it leads players naturally to secret areas and rewards trying different methods to progress.
Continuing on game design, let’s get to the Bosses. The way MO:Astray tackles bosses is a way I’ve never seen before. Each boss has its own puzzle mechanic to take down each bad guy. Without spoiling too much, the first boss relies on you attaching yourself to enemies so that it damages itself rather than you attacking it. These types of puzzle mechanics are used in every single boss fight and lasts until the end. Personally, the fact that MO:Astray stays consistent with the puzzle action theme throughout the entire game is incredibly impressive to me.
Plant thing of Doom
I need to mention this for any puzzle solving fiends – there’s a TON of puzzles in this game. All areas include one or more puzzles to solve to progress. One of my favorite features about this game is how it has the ability to hide secret areas with puzzles. Furthermore, there are Monster Memories, Memory Fragments, and even secret cutscenes behind expanded portions of already area progressing puzzles.
Each individual area has its own aesthetic to it. Chapter 1 is all about broken and destroyed labs, and the further you progress, the more that chapter’s biomes change. Later on you’ll have the opportunity to see gorgeous fauna filled zones, pristine labs, and corpse riddled zones as Mo blobs his way through this horrifying place.
Speaking of aesthetics, did I mention that this game is literal eye, ear, and sensory candy? Every individual scene looks like a rollercoaster joyride in a theme park of despair. Art style, sound design, and story design combine to make one of the most atmosphere rich platformer games I’ve laid my hands on. Seriously, the team did a knockout job on making you feel like you’re far away from home in an unnatural hellscape.
The game is deceptively cute, because even at points of extreme sadness, looking at Mo filled me with determination. I’ve attached an art gallery to showcase the artists’ hard work, below.

MO:Astray’s story is a gripping tale that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I won’t go into spoiler detail, but the gist of the story is that something went horribly wrong with experiments. Mo is now traveling through the said aftermath of these experiments. Learning the mystery of what exactly happened to whatever place you’re on is absolutely delightful. Not only is the game filled with tons of hidden lore and goodies to show what happened, at the end of every chapter you’re given flashbacks. These flashbacks are in comic book form and each of them gives you crucial information. For those willing, collecting all the Memory Fragments awards you with a different ending than the normal one. The story clicks in place as you progress, offering a satisfying conclusion to an already wonderful game.
What’s great about the story is that you can completely miss out on story details in your first playthrough, so the game encourages you to run through each chapter again via chapter select. On my playthrough, I completed the story 100% of the way through. However, I missed quite a bit of Monster Memories, so I decided to go grab those as well.
Because the game supports your ability to hoard information like a sponge, reading through everything in the Data Collection is a treat in itself. I spent a good hour or two just reading every story and piece of information.
After completing the game at least once, you get “Speed Mode” and a few other secret goodies. Speed Mode is a mode specifically for speedrunning the game so you can compete with other players’ scores online.

I went into MO:Astray expecting a fun, enjoyable platforming experience after watching the incredibly well made trailer. I wasn’t disappointed, and this game has more than driven my expectations past their limits. From the first boot up of the game, to the very end, I was filled with an exuberant joy I haven’t experienced from a platformer in ages. The only negative that I have for this game, is that I wish there was more. I didn’t want to stop playing it! To answer the question, “Is this game fun?”, I’d gesture to say that this game is incredibly fun and more than worth its current price point at $15 on Steam and Switch. I personally clocked in around 13 hours of gameplay, with a few hours of story reading.
MO:Astray is one of the best games I’ve played in the past 5 years. I mentioned this earlier, but this game truly feels like a passion project by developers that truly care about game design, as well as making the player feel the weight of the situation Mo has to go through. Personally, I’ll be recommending this game to everyone who loves story driven platformers – Archpray Inc. knows how to deliver.

Politics and Prose – Chevy Chase
315
5015 Connecticut Ave NW Washington, DC 20008 (202) 364-1919
Curbside pick-up will resume tomorrow, and orders can be placed either by phone or online. Pick-ups can be done at any of P&P’s three locations. For those desiring curbside pick-up, select that option at checkout on the web site. Once the order is filled, an e-mail notification will indicate that items are ready for pick-up. Phone hours have now been extended to 11-6 (Tuesday-Sunday), and pick-up hours are from 1-5 p.m. on Tuesday-Sunday. Pick-ups at the main (Connecticut Avenue) location will be in the parking lot behind the store – and at their other two locations (The Wharf & Union Market), pick-ups will be in front of the store. More pick-up instructions: Wait for notification that your order is ready for pick-up. Call the phone number of (whichever) store upon your arrival and then your order will be placed on a table. Wear a mask and maintain six feet of distance from others.
I love Politics and Prose. I love books and reading and this bookstore is truly dedicated to that. I also prefer to support independent stores in my community. Politics and Prose has a fantastic selection. The children’s selection is on point, plus they have super cute merchandise. Clearly, the politics/world affairs section is big. They also have a nice cookbook selection. Staff is friendly. I was most recently there for an author talk and signing. I was able to buy the book, “Cool Beans” and have author Joe Yonan sign it. He was in conversation with Pati Jinich, which was great. and Little Sesame (my favorite) had samples for that event. So they do cool things like that. Plus, heading up here gives me a reason to check out restaurants I wouldn’t normally get to, so there’s that bonus as well. Definitely a great D.C. fixture.
A very cool and interesting bookstore. It is very well known. Politics and Prose is the best place to get reading material. Fun activities like social clubs come to meet here. They have books of almost any interest. Bookstores are not as common as they used to be. If you can read something on a pad or phone, why do you need a book? There’s many reasons. If you’re looking for an older book. There’s lots of older books here. It also has lots of newer books. Some people just like actual books, especially if these are classics. There’s also certain benefits to going to bookstores that you can’t get on a screen. At this store they often have visits by famous authors. There always seems to be a book signing. It becomes rarer to find a bookstore. This one always has something interesting to read or see. You can check the calendar to see when a famous author might come to visit.
In the age of online shopping, bookstores are becoming a dying breed (RIP Borders). No need to fret! I’m here to report that Politics and Prose is alive and kicking! This location has the qualities of a quintessential neighborhood bookstore…D.C. homegrown, warm staff, loyal customers, family-friendly, and a cozy coffeehouse to boot. Space is well-organized, roomy, and clean. There’s a plethora of topics to explore and choose from: politics, fiction, nonfiction, history, poetry…the list is endless. Selection in children’s books are second to none. Since whodunits are my jam…I’m usually browsing the mystery section. Found several hard to find Walter Mosley novels (Gone Fishin’, Devil in a Blue Dress, and White Butterfly). Special mention: Looking for a cool and unique gift? You’ll probably find it here. There’s something for all ages…from the quirky magnets and colorful graphic tees to the most adorable baby bibs. Side note: Still living in the Dark Ages and having a hard time finding CD’s? Politics and Prose has you covered! A nice collection of musical genres…jazz, international, classical, folk, and so much more. Pro tips: Stop by The Den in the lower level for a tasty cup of espresso or tea. Also, the Smoked Salmon Toast is out of this world! Interesting tidbit: The delicious smoked salmon comes from the local Ivy City Smokehouse…need I say more? Definitely a fan of this one of a kind bookstore, and that is why I’m giving it five stars!
Classic DC spot. Great for book browsing, especially for political books. Decent cafe downstairs.
Love coming here! Their prices are good, tons of books to choose from, and the downstairs cafe is delightful!
I am a book lover, and this is book heaven! There are a ton of books to choose for every genre. There’s a’ways some great signings and discussions going on here. If you’re looking for book accessories this is also your place to look. Parking is on the street but there’s plenty of it. There’s a cafe called “The Den” below with wine and coffee.
Politics and Prose is an institution – the premier independent bookstore in the DC area. The events they hold almost everyday is proof of their status. Almost every high profile politician on a book tour will come through P&P for an event, in addition to celebrities and popular authors. Below I will mostly focus on the Conn. Ave. store and café, but the P&P brand is strong. The store: It has a fantastic selection, particularly for nonfiction books. When you walk into the store, you are immediately overwhelmed by the floor to ceiling bookshelves. The space is super inviting and it’s set up for perusing. Go to the left first and you’ll find new releases, than work your way around clockwise. I really like the new sale section in the addition. The room is much more open, given that the clearance section used to be in the basement. The new P&P stores by the Wharf and Union Market don’t have sale sections and are major let downs to me, although I can touch more on that in those respective store reviews. Advice to student visitors: sign up for the P&P membership – it’s free! After buying a certain amount of products, you get money off. Overall, I’m always up for a leisurely trip to P&P. The café (The Den): P&P’s The Den, which is located in the basement of the store, is underrated. It has a partnership with Little Red Fox which is a couple storefronts away. The few times I have been here while visiting P&P, I’ve gotten coffee and/or lunch. Both seemed like they were of very high quality. I got an iced latte and a peanut sauce Soba noodle bowl the last time I visited – both were fantastic. It’s difficult to find seating in the Den on the weekends, but usually if you wait around for ten minutes something will show up. Conclusion: P&P is a must visit for someone who wants to get a figurative and literal taste of the city.
I love when a book store (with events) & a cafe are combined! I came here last weekend with my friend who lives a few blocks away and absolutely loved this place and it’s charm. We went to the cafe downstairs and each had the Salvadoran Corn Cake and shared the Ricotta & Fig toast. I had their homemade raspberry iced tea and she had their cold brew. It was just the right amount of food and everything was delicious and fresh. I loved the artwork from locals hung around the shop and the overall vibe of the place. If I lived in the area, this would definitely be somewhere I would frequent!
Great store! It has a good stock of books and is socially conscious as well. A good combo if you ask me! My one issue: I went to the store to buy a copy of “Visions of Jerome” by Jack Kerouac. Jack wrote this book about me when I was a drunken hobo in my youth. I did not find my book, but I found “Visions of Gerard.” Gerard was my understudy in those days as we road the rails. I have no idea why his book is there instead of mine!
Politics & Prose is great! It’s an independent bookstore that offers excellent customer service with a wide selection of books. The bookstore employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. Just a few of the awesome ones are Terry, Nora, Michael, Sly, Jamal, Alecia, Carolyn, Adam, Ellie, and many more. They have member sales with great discounts on books. Downstairs with the children’s section is the cafe, The Den. This place is always busy, but especially on weekends. Most of the baristas are college students (usually American University) who are 18-20. I want to push back against some of the bad reviews directed at customer service. For some of these kids, this is their first job ever. Also, they’re working there because P&P offers a living wage AND benefits that surpass most university health care plans. Yes, they sometimes make mistakes, but if you show them the same courtesy with which you’d like to be treated, they are very kind and accommodating. Honestly, I think the fact that the Den is always a busy and lively place is a testament to the service and awesome atmosphere. A couple things: This is NOT a quiet space. Like almost all coffee shops, the place is full of people on laptops working, on mobile phones, or conversing with friends. It’s still quieter than Tryst, but it’s also much smaller. That’s another thing: even though there are signs saying to give up your seat if you’re not eating or drinking, people will park in their seats for hours. The coffee house turns off the WiFi from 11 am to 2pm on weekdays and has no WiFi on weekends to discourage people from doing this during their busiest times, but it still happens. So just be aware, around lunchtime and on days where there are member sales or well-known authors speaking, there will little to no seating. Lastly, because P&P is an independent business who treats their employees like human beings, there is no forced enthusiasm/forced smiles policy like at Starbucks where you are expected to “genuinely love coffee,” as if forcing your employees to grin like Wal-Mart greeters makes them more efficient baristas. P&P understands that conditions like depression and bipolar disorder can make the “37 pieces of flair” TGI Friday’s approach to customer service difficult. That said, I have never had anyone be unpleasant to me. But I appreciate that P&P lets people have a flat affect without worrying that it might cost them their job. Soon the Den will also have more and better coffee options, plus they have an awesome new coffee manager (Kenia) in charge of quality control for espresso drinks. So be sure to stop in and try some of their blends in the near future!
Any description of this book store by me is eclipsed by the volumes of works found here. When in town, I stop by here just to browse and purchase the newest editions of books that attract my fancy. It attracts an A list of literary personalities and authors. Here you can run into Presidents (the ones who read), poets, authors great and small, and think tank wonks. It is as if the Academy, Académie Française, and Real Academia Español were reduced to English and placed here. This is Washington’s literary Pantheon. Go, revel in it, support it and immerse yourself; you will thank yourself.
Wonderful indie bookstore in an indie bookstore kinda town. We are chasing NYC as the top US indie bookstore destination. Solid State and Kramerbooks are worth supporting, too. There are others. We are lucky also to have a few Barnes and Nobles left in the area. P&P sponsors author talks and has a nice cafe downstairs. They have a membership program w sales and discounts. I ordered a turkey sandwich from the cafe and the fellow preparing it came out to ask me if, since I swore off the pesto mayo, I would like extra avocado to help hold the thing together better. He must have unicorn blood in his veins. This place is America at its best. Pride and meaningfulness.
This is my favorite bookstore in DC! I love the amazing selection of new and classic books, the quirky items, and the events. Many of the books I have purchased here are also signed by the author. The cafe downstairs is lovely – its great to journal, do some work, and read a book.
I am so excited that this bookstore exist! Let it be known that you can still buy books inside of a store… Wait what? Yes that’s right, ladies and gentlemen you can still purchase books inside of a bookstore. While the idea of a bookstore is slowly dying, I for one enjoy being able to pick up a book and skim through it before deciding to purchase it or not. I also really appreciate this bookstore because often authors come in to do Q&A’s along with book signings. The one downside is definitely the location. Parking can be extremely difficult to find. However; once inside the store you will find books on almost every topic you could desire. Cookbooks, religion books, political… Obviously, autobiographies, children’s books, and a bunch of other knickknacks that you never knew you needed but definitely want. This is also a great place to stop if you are in need of a gift. I recommend checking this book store out if you are in the area.
This review is just for their cafe. My friend and I came here to get some work done, but apparently they turn off their WiFi from 12-2 to empty their seats faster. That was unfortunate, since we were there to work on our laptops. As for food, cappuccino was good, but chocolate croissant was amazing!! I’m a sucker for a good flaky pain au chocolat
About a month ago, we went here about 45 minutes before closing for some coffee, a glass of wine, and to have a relaxing conversation. We tried to order an Americano and latte. We were told that the espresso bar “closed at 8:00” so we had to order coffee. The coffee was fine, but we were still perplexed as to how an espresso machine “closes.” The guy behind the counter wasn’t interested in providing much of an explanation or apologizing. We sat down, and about 15 minutes later, the same gentleman yelled “Closing in 30 minutes!” as loud as he possibly could. We were the only people sitting in the store – was not really necessary to yell as though the shop was crowded and needed to be cleared out. Fifteen minutes later, a female employee walked near our table, and about 5-10 feet away from us yelled, “CLOSING IN 15 MINUTES!” It was like something out of a Saturday Night Live sketch. I finished my coffee as fast as I possibly could, spit the grounds back into the cup, then we left. Never returning to this place. Unless that was some sort of candid camera episode or Punk’d, that was truly the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
I enjoy everything about the downstairs cafe except the peanut noodle bowl. YUCK!
This amazing bookstore and coffeehouse is the perfect place to be productive and/or avoid all your problems. With multiple genres of books to choose from and a delicious menu with toast, wine, teas & coffee, etc. Politics & Prose is one of the best bookstores in the D.C. area. I really enjoyed the time that I spent here. The book selection is vast and wonderful. They also have a lot of gadgets, stationary, and gifts that you can purchase for yourself or others. Their coffeehouse- named “The Den” is downstairs; there is plenty of seating, but the seats fill up fast. There is Wi-Fi, but not on the weekends. I think this is a great idea. I ordered two hot chai lattes, traditional grilled cheese sandwich, and a smoked salmon toast. The presentation was just as great as the food I ordered. I definitely recommend this place to others. I will definitely be coming back!
Cute place! Great for studying, they have a good selection of drinks and pastries to eat. Wish there a few more outlets around the cafe.

20 remarkable dark ombre hair color ideas
A dark ombre hair color is a technique that gradually transforms the hair from a dark color on the top to an even darker color on the bottom. Traditionally, the dark shades start at the roots and turn into bright ends. This can be the other way around – the roots brighter and the tips darker – and this is called the reverse ombre.
With the Balayage hand painting technique, dark ombres now look more natural than ever! The wide selection of colors to choose from and blend make this hairstyle suitable for literally anyone, regardless of complexion, natural hair color and lifestyle. It is important to communicate well with your colorist so that you can develop your personality with the most flattering color combination!
Working with your natural color makes it even easier to look after, as the growth does not pose a problem! Highlights and lower lights can create a seamless transition that turns ombre hair into a natural-looking one, and we're forever grateful to you for that.
See how Lucy Hale, Taraji Henson and Selena Gomez wear their dark ombres, and you're sure to turn green with envy. If you are looking for a hairstyle with outstanding dimensions, contrasts and edges, this is just the thing for you.
Here we have collected only the most popular dark ombre hair looks for this year! Check it now!
Dark to ash ombre
How would you describe this look?
This look is a high-contrast ombre – the roots are from black to medium brown and end very easily! The thing I love about this look is the ashy blonde. We also cut her hair into a soft U-shape and create a nice length definition when her hair is curled!
Any advice for someone considering it?
Ombres with high contrast are for those who are ready for a big change and understand the care of blond ends. Customers also need to understand that it takes several sessions to reach those fair-haired ends. This photo was taken after three sessions. Another thing to keep in mind is the maintenance. Most natural brunettes have many red undertones, so if their hair is bleached, it tends to draw more orange / gold than ashen. To keep it a little shy, it must be cared for with either toning or purple shampoo!
I work and love Redken products, so I recommend you to use Redken Extreme Anti-Snap before drying or the extreme C.A.T. treatment before shampooing. Another recommendation, if you prefer ashy blonde, would be the use of Redken Color Extend Blondage Purple Shampoo, but only if you notice that your blonde is becoming gilded. Daily or even weekly use may cause your hair to turn purple.
Blond ombre on dark hair
How would you describe this look?
This look is an edgy ombre. It combines deep cool brunette (level 3/4 cool) tones that turn into cool beige and blonde ends (level 9). We smoothed and tinkled with ashes to keep the heat down. The customer grows up a shoulder-length, inverted "praise", so we just cropped the ends and I shaved a few separate layers. I then rolled with a Marcel 1.25in run and stroked it still warm. Equipped with Aveda texture tonic.
Any advice for someone considering it?
This is usually not a monochrome session result. The customer must keep the hair moist and healthy. I would recommend a daily repair product (like Aveda's daily hair repair) when wet, a thickening spray everywhere, and a hair spray to speed up the styling. After drying with an iron or curling iron and bridle curl – to get a roughened texture, finish with textured spray (Aveda texture spray).
This look is also cute straight, but gives a more edgy look when curled up. I think that's a flattering length for all face shapes and hair structures. This particular customer is a young, stylish mother of two. I often see her and she always lets her hair style well. Even for a mother on the way.
Dark brown to light brown ombre
How would you describe this look?
This look is a splash of coffee cream in a dark roast. The best thing about this color is how smooth it mixes between such a dark base and bright ends, and the dimension is my favorite!
Any advice for someone considering it?
I would recommend this color to anyone looking for minimal maintenance. It is perfect for someone who likes to wear his hair in different textured styles such as loose curls, waves and pigtails because it shows the different tones. It's perfect for anyone with naturally darker hair looking for healthy, lighter hair without having to be in the salon for post-processing every 4 weeks.
Remember, in my opinion, these Ombre's / Balayage's with the base as dark and ending as bright as this one each time look better and better when you get it done. It adds more variety of tones through the entire hair and can take more than one session to achieve the desired lightness at the ends.
Dark Black to Silver Ombre
How would you describe this look?
My favorite thing about this look is how bright and cool we finally got their highlights. This customer has a naturally warm, middle brown hair color. We darken their base and then use foil work to lighten the ends. The removal of artificial pigment can be difficult as it releases a lot of heat, which is the opposite of what we look for in this look. We finally reached our goal in this session and were both thrilled. No, we only mend their roots and luster as long as they are satisfied with the growth from the faux balayage technique I use. It is actually quite low maintenance when the desired lightness is achieved.
Any advice for someone considering it?
It is important to remember that it is difficult to get this blonde, if you make it too fast, the hair can be compromised. We worked in multiple sessions for at least 6 months to achieve these silver highlights as opposed to their dark base. As soon as your hair is so light, you need special care at home. Professional products, regular polishing, hair masks, minimal heat styling and a gentle hand while brushing. In addition, not every skin is suitable for cool tones. My general rule, when I think of flattering tones, is that the opposite side of the color wheel works from the underlying skin tones as I get lighter, but the same color family, when I'm getting darker, works for most people.
Caramel ombre on dark brown hair
How would you describe this look?
This look is a subtle approach to a caramel ombre for someone who wants to change it, but it's not too intense. My favorite thing about it is how well the color fades and how beautifully it grows out!
The mix of copper and beige I used makes it look good and she does not have to worry about having dull hair and staying longer between appointments. This color technique is perfect for smooth or curly hair, short or long hair! The cut and the color are super easy to clean. The technique I used and the color formula works with most customers, depending on the intensity of the color.
Any advice for someone considering it?
The customer would have to agree with warmer tones. This look is great again, because it introduces the warm caramel tones, without the fear of becoming too red, if that is a concern of the customer.
Blond dark shadow hair
How would you describe this look?
This look shows a perfect gold lived in blonde. With the Balayage technique we can create this "beachy" look without spending the whole summer in the sun. Styling with a wand will also enhance the look, but add the element of beach waves.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Since the blonde does not reach down to the roots, she is perfect for someone who wants less care and yet a totally blonde look. If you are looking for some fun in the sun, this will be the perfect summer look for you!
Dark brown to red ombre
How would you describe this look?
I love how we can play the original root color, because melting a natural color into something bright and different is such a funny thing. Aveda Texture Tonic is great when styling looks great and when you give it a little curls, the color always gets a cool dimensional look when other light hits them.
Any advice for someone considering it?
I would say this look is great for anyone who loves to show off their hair! The styling of the hair with some texture and a strong look give the hair a total picture. Think of cat's eyes and Kat Von D.
Dark to light ombre hair
How would you describe this look?
This is a dramatic mixed ombre praise. The techniques used were babylight, balayage, root shadows, compression cutting and dry cutting. What I love about this look is that it is easy to clean but has a high visual impact.
Any advice for someone considering it?
This is a great style for any customer who loves a dramatic look but does not have the time or budget to choose one. This color and cut only needs reworking a few times a year and can be used on most hair types. The cuts with a lot of versatility and look great – whether wavy or straight!
Dark brown to blond ombre
How would you describe this look?
I created this rooted look with a combination of baby light and balayage. Baby-light is just a hairdressing concept for very finely woven highlights and should give you a similar look as the sun-drenched highlights that you would get as a child. Balayage is a hand painting technique that creates a melted look from dark to light when used. For most of this cut, I've used a shaving technique to give it a soft texture and really showcase the color.
My favorite part of the whole project was to give her a vivid color that made her feel brighter and brighter. The beach waves were generated with a flat iron and completed with Oribe texturing spray. If you have not tried this product yet, you are seriously missing it. It creates effortless texture and volume in no time at all for fine-haired girls: this is your new best friend!
Any advice for someone considering it?
This customer of mine, as seen in the picture, had already been balaged twice before this final transformation. Her hair was dyed dark brown before it got blond, so we had to trust the process and take it slow to protect the integrity of her hair.
My biggest advice to those who want to get brighter: Be 100% honest with your stylist about your color history and take it slowly. Trust the process. Raising virgin hair is pretty easy, but when you lift through old colors (professional and boxing dyes), it can be unpredictable. If you take it slowly, your hair will stay healthy and will not compromise.
Normally I send all my customers home with professional care products to ensure the longevity and health of the hair. Any hair type can achieve this look over time, but do not be surprised if you have thick, dark hair, you probably will not come to a frosty blond color in a service.
This color is inhabited, which means that you can stay a few months without much, and it will still look seamless. The cut can be achieved with straight hair up to really curly hair. It has minimal layers for extra movement and face-frame pieces to suit any face shape. No matter what texture, but you are petting it, this color and the cut combination are perfect for all your easy-care girls and guys out there!
Blue Ombre
How would you describe this look?
This look is minimalist yet stylish and dimensional through the color and layers.
One of my favorite pieces of this look is the dark blue ombre, which blends seamlessly into the dark roots. Darker roots allow regrowth to be less obvious, thus reducing grooming. In addition, since it is in a darker shade, the color lasts longer and even if it fades, it will fade beautifully. Dark blue is one of the coolest shades ever.
Any advice for someone considering it?
If you are dark-haired and want a very easy-care look, this beautiful dark blue ombre can definitely be one of your inspirations. You do not necessarily dye your entire head to achieve that look. I will also recommend this to clients with strict office wear, as this subtle dark blue ombre definitely does not stand out in the eyes of HR.
Brown Ombre
How would you describe this look?
I've created this reverse ombre with a color fusion technique, from its natural blond mixed colors to the darkest brown. The cut consists of long layers, which are designed with Biolage thermal active spray and a large curling iron.
Any advice for someone considering it?
This color is perfect for a natural blonde who desires a dramatic change without much care.
Dark brown ombre
This kind of curly ombre makes a bold change from rich chocolate to some caramel swirls. And honestly, we live for it.
Rose gold ombre on dark hair
Balayage hair helps in changing the color, especially in this dark to light. Pink hairs with ashen tones still stand out, while radiating a relaxed atmosphere.
Violet ombre
Violet hair is a simple and creative way to express yourself. A gray transition to rich violet and purple strands screams impudence.
Gray Ombre
Stylist Aubrey has set himself instagram-worthy hair goals! A smooth transition from dark to light gray hair gives the hair excellent color quality.
Balayage Ombre
Biscuits and cream in a creamy consistency! With dark roots and bright ends, it is usually the safest way to explore the hair color. Besides, it is really easy to wait!
Red Ombre
Funny and sexy, like burning passion! Be an instant eye-catcher with silky scarlet ombre.
Backlight to dark Ombre
Soft waves that begin at the nape of the neck can create a smoother transition from light to dark. Here we have a dark caramel to black ombre.
Inverted blonde to dark ombre
The deeper the color, the better! A silky light to dark fade that enchants wonderfully.
Short dark ombre hair color
Yes, you can still make Ombre on a Pixie cut! And with this color change, I'm sure he'll look unique.
