I am just a fan of the show and want to create stuff about the characters I love (rather than the actors) but you cannot completely separate the character from who portrayed them since they’re the ones who bring them to life. Which is why I want to be respectful to someone who has experienced something tragic

I do not have a parasocial relationship with any celebrity and instead consider myself a fan of what they create but I understand some people do and that’s okay so long as you can remain respectful of their real lives

I think they said they outlined it before the strike. But they don’t film until January, I think? I’m assuming that they probably have most of it completed, especially with the holidays coming up.

I think it’s fair to call this show what it is: a comedy. The actors have said it’s 50% improv, 50% script. So a lot of it is based on just what’s the funniest thing they can say about something in that moment and then they edit it later. According to Harvey Guillen, some scenes would last 30 minutes each if they didn’t cut it down.

What’s interesting about this show is the wildcard: Harvey Guillen. Originally the show was looking for an older man to play Nandor’s familiar and Harvey got an audition randomly. He just went to a party and got invited to audition from someone there. It was random, but also, it was fate.

Let me explain.

Harvey didn’t “fit the part” (Harvey’s words) whatsoever of this character and dressed himself to look older, putting on what he calls his Harry Potter glasses and parted his hair down the middle.

The Guillermo we see in the pilot was all Harvey’s idea of what that character should be and the costuming department just ran with it.

(I actually have the full audition tape of Harvey’s if anyone’s interested. Maybe I’ll add in a link later?)

I mention this because I don’t think they (showrunner, producers,etc) expected Guillermo to become such a fan favorite. Which kinda explains why his character is the punching bag of season one and why it somewhat changes as seasons go by.

I mean, we don’t even see Guillermo in this season one poster (we don’t see Colin Robinson, either. But I feel like I could write an entirely other post about that character and why I think he’s genuinely the best and most consistently written character on the show. But I won’t right now).

I think they expected Guillermo to be a one-note side kick, which is fine. Many of Harvey’s previous roles were nearly background characters such as that.

But, Harvey’s take on the character coupled with his talent at being both comedic and dramatic really shined through. And I think that’s where you start to see that maybe they could do more with him than just being the funny guy in the background.

I also think that’s why you start to see some threading of a more serious plot when it comes to Guillermo’s storyline because of Harvey’s range.

Who would’ve known a funny bit like being a Van Helsing descent in a house full of vampires would get you compelling scenes like The Night Market, Nouveau Théâtre des Vampires, and The Portrait?

Harvey mentioned having to train for these and wanted to do his own stunts! And he does them well!

Did they imagine Guillermo being such a badass in the pilot? Probably not. But he is and people took to it. The serious fight scenes (even with bits of comedy filtered in) really stand out in their own as excellent serious action scenes.

Along with badass scenes, Harvey delivered compelling emotional scenes like Guillermo’s coming out (which Harvey actually cried in as well as other cast and crew, and they had to edit it to not make it too serious), the scene he left Nandor for Celeste, and many scenes in S5’s Exit Interview.

I also think they also did not anticipate his chemistry with Kayvan Novak. It’s brought up a lot with interviews with them and everyone can tell that they genuinely are really good friends in real life, which makes acting together on screen that much better.

(Funny enough, he was supposed to do a chemistry read with Kayvan before shooting and wasn’t able to meet him until they were on set for the pilot. )

And I think that began to grow with their character’s evolving relationship. From master and servant to friends to sometimes the show and network alluding to them being in a romance (Guillermo’s half-baked love confession, Marwa liking what Nandor likes, the show making videos about shipping Nandermo).

I think in some ways, even though the show wanted it to be a funny Gaston and Lefou type relationship, Kayvan and Harvey had undeniable chemistry you couldn’t deny.

So yeah, I think originally they started the show with the intention that it was supposed to be similar to the movie that shares its name. (Shadows movie is hilariously ridiculous and arguably funnier imo than the tv show.)

Looking back to the pilot, I can see that they really tried to do just that. But I think it took off in a direction that even the creators didn’t imagine it would go. Just a silly little comedy show about silly little vampires. And don’t get me wrong, it still definitely is. It just evolved.

The drama of Shadows the TV show would be so out of place in the movie. The whole vampire arc, if it was movie inspired, would not be as dramatic as they have made it in the show. The humor is just too different. But the show has evolved for better or worse and I’m curious where they are going to take it now.

I guess this turned into a bit of an Harvey Guillen appreciation post and honestly, why not? Look at that adorable face.

btw I'm reblogging "that's his boss" posts that I find funny, but I am NOT taking it as serious information about the show. Like, c'mon. The number 1 priority of this show has ALWAYS been to be silly goofy, and I wouldn't be surprised if the showrunners don't even have the events of the next season nailed down yet. We are SO excited to have chatted with Matthew Bassett, the voice actor for Eris Vanserra in the Graphic Audio Production of the ACOTAR series.

Read below for an Exclusive Q&A with Matt ❤️

How long have you been voice acting? How did you get started in the voice acting industry?

I’ve only really worked with Graphic Audio for voice acting, and I’ve been in their roster of actors since 2012. I’ve been a stage actor (with a tiny bit of film) since 2003, and I’ve taught acting in the Washington, DC, area since 2012. When I moved to the DC area after graduate school and started working around here, a number of actors I liked and admired kept mentioning this company that provided steady work on fun material - westerns, fantasy, sci-fi. The comic book adaptations sold me, I’m a huge comics fan. Since 2012, I’ve played countless varmints, monsters, cads, aliens, superheroes/villains, and the occasional good guy. Along with Eris, my larger roles have included voicing The Homelander in all six volumes of GA’s adaption of The Boys graphic novels and Cullen in the World of Lupi series.

Can you describe the process for being selected for the role of Eris (or any other character)? Were there auditions, callbacks, or specific criteria that led to your casting?

Graphic Audio works like a repertory acting company, in that after your initial audition, they maintain your contact information for project directors to pull from when needed. I’ve done a lot of work with Colleen Delaney, director of the ACOTAR adaptations, including several longer character arcs in multiple series, so she thought I would be a good fit for Eris based on similar characters (rogueish, but with hidden depth that is explored over time) I’ve played elsewhere. I’m glad she did! Eris has been really fun.

How did you prepare for the role of Eris in terms of understanding the character's backstory, motivations, and relationships with other characters?

Graphic Audio does a fantastic job of preparing actors and directing us through performances. Colleen sent each actor a brief but rich character description, often quoting directly from the novels, as well as providing a plot description for each specific novel (necessary since the turnaround from offer to recording is very short). During our sessions, Colleen tells me everything I need to know about where Eris has been since the last scene/book and how his relationships have evolved. GA directors also read in as “scene partners,” which, considering they are all performers themselves, makes it very easy to react as I imagine Eris would.

Eris is a complex and morally ambiguous character. What aspects of his personality did you find most challenging to convey in your performance, and how did you approach tackling those challenges?

His vulnerability is very challenging. Eris has had a hard life, despite growing up with every privilege, which is difficult to convey. He hates everyone to some extent, but it all comes from how much he hates his family and himself. The scenes with Morrigan in particular take a while to record - he has all the feelings when talking to her, but he can’t show any of them.

Did you have any creative input into how Eris's voice would sound, or was it a collaborative effort with the production team and director? Were there any specific discussions about the character's vocal tone or style?

Definitely collaborative! His basic vocal character is very close to mine, with the musicality dialed up a bit so he can taunt everyone so well. Where my director really helps is pushing me to find the different levels to his interactions - when he’s teasing (often), when he’s antagonizing (mostly with Cassian), and when he’s speaking from his heart (VERY rarely, usually to or involving Morrigan).

What actors (voice, stage, film, etc) have inspired you? And did any actors or other characters help inspire your performance for Eris?

Hoo boy. Too many to list! For something like Eris, a lot of inspiration from Tom HIddleston’s Loki, Tom Cruise’s Lestat de Lioncourt, and anything Jeremy Irons has ever done. Characters that you can’t take your eyes off of, even as you want to beat the crap out of them.

Were there any specific challenges or unique aspects to voicing Eris compared to other characters you've portrayed in the past? How did you adapt your voice to capture his essence?

Y’know, for all the dirtbags, murderers, literal monsters, aliens, and villains I’ve voiced, Eris is the one with the biggest heart. The biggest challenge is allowing him to have a deep want, hidden from even himself, for some tenderness, the one thing he has been denied his entire life. A character like Eris is easy to just have fun with and play as a smug prick (which he is), but he has moments of aching loneliness that make him much richer. SPOILER: One of my most recent favorite moments was playing Eris’ surprise and gratitude when receiving a “made” dagger for safekeeping. Eris can’t fathom trusting anyone else with something so powerful and important, because he simply wasn’t shown that level of trust or respect. The moment took him by such surprise. It was great to let myself feel that in the playing.

Do you have any advice for aspiring voice actors who are considering pursuing a career in Voice Acting? Any tips for breaking into the business and honing their craft?

Train your voice! I received excellent vocal training as part of my MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Acting at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I learned how to care for my vocal health, how to support with my breath, and how to modulate the dynamics of my voice for character differentiation as well as basic performance beats. You may not have the inclination for that level of training, but a regular voice lesson with a singing coach will give you similar techniques. In terms of breaking in: like anything of this nature, it’s relationships. Build a strong resume, but also build strong relationships with your collaborators and a reputation for reliability. Directors know that I’ll prepare so that I can make strong initial choices, but that I am more than happy to adjust my choices as needed to make the overall production its best.

Century of Love Ep 2 Stray Thoughts

Yesterday, we got off to a fantastic start with this show. San is a 120+ year old man whose body hasn’t aged in a century because of a curse that will allow him to reunite with his reincarnated dead love. He has about two months left to find his love before he turns to dust in excruciating agony. He’s been cared for by multiple generations of a family for the last century, and finally found his love. Unfortunately for him, she reincarnated as one of the most beautiful boys ever created, and San has to sort through some of his own drama. San hasn’t known another’s touch in quite a long time, and all he’s felt for a century is excruciating pain at night when the curse forces him to feel every injury he’s ever healed from. We left at San having an erotic dream about Vee.

Not the curse behaving like a chastity belt for a 100 years until he found Vee!!!

I’m so glad Vee’s grandmother didn’t die. I was already getting sad.

I hope this show keeps up the meditation on death and grief since its protagonist is an undead.

Well well well. Our boy Vee is happily bisexual and not one to swoon at a pretty face. I love him. It’s so funny that we ended the last episode on San’s fantasy about Vee instinctively knowing him in comparison.

A pratfall kiss! Where is the Love Stage!! face bleeding scene?

I do like that the people around San tease him about being an old man.

Uh oh. Family problems.

Amazing. Vee is also possibly committing crimes.

Wait, why does he have to turn into a child to regenerate, and when will Offroad interact with this child?

Incredible acting. He carefully sets the child actor down before they use an editing trick for him to kick this child in the chest.

I love the way this young actor is playing San. Good job, everyone.

I love Vee so much. San is gonna get mad about this, but I’m totally with Vee about life being about the future and not the past. I hope that Vee never remembers anything of Vad’s life.

Who is this guy, and why did he want some of San’s blood? Is he connected to that Lord Trai guy from before? Who is this with the phone??

Well, that confrontation with Vee didn’t go well for San, but he looked good in that outfit. I like that Vee feels like a full person who has had enough with being nice to a rude person.

Who is this old timer who knows about the stone?

This preview makes it feel like it’s going to be a month before San and Vee interact again.

This show has everything. Fantasy, action, comedy, drama, tragedy, child actors getting kicked in the chest, and people even get stabbed with their own knives! I like that Vee isn’t a pushover and is also willing to fight, and I really hope we get to see San and Vee fight together at some point. This was a really fun opening week for this show, and I will be seated for the rest of it. I hope the family continues to give San shit the entire time.

Just sitting here, quietly thinking about the fact that it turns out the attempt to save KPTS started on June 20, 2021. Because Filmania's problems in producing the show first became public on July 4th. And they only officially canceled the show on July 13th.

Apo tweeted on July 4th, and his brief words seemed to reflect the depths of his upset and disappointment.

But if Mile was taking action even before that in order to save the show, it means he saw what was coming. It means he understood the likely fate of the project before it was known for sure, he didn’t bury his head in the sand when he saw the worrisome signs, and he cared enough about KPTS, about the people involved that he had bonded with (and I believe more than anyone else on set, about Apo) that he took steps to prevent that reality from materializing even before it became a fact.

I have no words for how much I appreciate this man, his comprehension, his resolve and dedication, his caring, investment and passion. I have no doubt that Apo was a huge part of saving the show, too. Not just in terms of providing Mile with a huge chunk of the motivation to do it. I’m convinced that Apo was an active part of the efforts behind the scenes, providing crucial contributions. But nothing would have happened without Mile and I think he deserves credit for that. His efforts are not something that could have reasonably been expected of him. So let me say how much I'm grateful for him, for the fire in his bones despite how chill he always comes across, and for the bond that these two share that might have helped ignite the flame.

As a queer person, I can’t stress enough how much I love KPTS. How convinced I am that good representation matters. How close I hold Kinn and Porsche to my heart. How human this show made its queer characters and with how much dignity it treated them IMO. How freeing it was to see this celebration of queer love in all its forms, including the sexual ones. Yes, treating the sexuality of queer characters with respect and even joy, allowing them to do more than chastely kiss, that is incredibly important, too. That’s a part of what turns them into flesh and bone, not merely cardboard cutouts. No matter what the origins of the need to save the show, I have no doubt that the good it brought about grows exponentially (yes, as long as people keep discovering and watching the show, it will continue to grow), far beyond what Mile and Apo might have dreamed of when they first set out to try and make the show happen despite the fact that, as actors, that was never their designated role.

My heroes. Two kings. I’m so glad you met again. I’m so grateful for all the good that that is (i.e that you two are) responsible for.

Hello, I read your aegond fic series recently and wow, it’s kind of crazy how so many small details you added to it actually ended up happening in the show 😭 the little sunfyre boops, theory going around fandom rn that helaena sometimes mends Aegon’s clothing when she’s embroidering. MOST of Aegon’s characterization this season. Even Aegon listening to petitions kind of felt like the scene with Helaena doing the same. And I think you captured the vibes I get from all 3 of them based on the show perfectly. Aemond’s temper and overall pragmatic attitude is so spot on, the scene of him dressing down larys reminded me of him talking to the substitute Lannister hand in your fic.

It’s like my fix it for all the wasted potential of season 2. Im so sad bc i’m loving the actors’ portrayals but i hate so much of what they’re making them do?? So thank you for writing it!! You took everything i liked from the show and made smth very lovely and emotionally cathartic from it

Also would love to hear your thoughts on season 2 bc I think your characterization for the siblings and Alicent is so spot on. Anything you liked or disliked from what they’ve been doing so far?

thank you so much! i’m glad you enjoyed the series, and that it can make up for a bit of the stupidity of s2! as you can probably tell from the way i wrote the yellow dress series, i’m not best pleased with a lot of the writing choices for s2. i’ll go through each of the characters and tell you what i think:

alicent: i’m torn, because while i feel like show!alicent (and show!rhaenyra) does a massive disservice to book!alicent, because the showrunners seem to have got it in their heads that a sympathetic woman is one who is constantly the victim of those around her and that sympathy is more important than making a character interesting, i also think her characterisation in this season is pretty coherent for the way they set her up in s1, and i do enjoy it. ironically what i really enjoy is her and aemond’s relationship falling apart — i saw a very good post talking about the driftmark incident, and how aemond idolises her for her expression of protective fury while she hates that she lost control like that, and him realising she’s never going to stand up for him instead of rhaenyra like that again is an excellent way to fracture their relationship.

helaena: i really like her characterisation! aside from the fact that maelor not existing really diminishes b&c, i think they’ve struck a good balance between showing her being heavily affected but not reducing all of her agency like in the book. the fact that they’re giving her and aegon’s relationship more weight than they did in s1 pleases me greatly.

aegon: i mostly enjoy his characterisation this season — i really enjoyed the second brothel scene as it showed he hasn’t really stopped being a bit of a shit to aemond over the years, and let’s be honest, he’s never going to stop, that’s just how their relationship is. what i don’t like is the ways the showrunners have deliberately exaggerated his incompetence, like him being shut out of the plan for rook’s rest, going into battle drunk and not even knowing high valyrian. i feel like this is partially because the showrunners really want us to know this is the rhaenyra show, and partially what i said above with regards to alicent — because it’s the rhaenyra show, they seem to have it in their head that characters can only be sympathetic if they’re victimised by others to some degree and not directly involved in prosecuting the war. so if they want some degree of sympathy for aegon, they feel like they have to diminish his involvement, and make him a victim of his own team, which leads me on to…

aemond: of all the greens, i’m most annoyed at how aemond has been characterised this season. the writers seem to have decided he’s the character they can make an unequivocal villain even to his own side in order to make alicent and aegon “more sympathetic”. this when they did such a good job in his 13 minutes of screen time in s1 of making him more than the one-dimensional psycho he was in the book. and even in the book, he didn’t betray aegon at rook’s rest!! that was the lazy way out of the aegond relationship — though i might’ve hated it less if it was given any emotional weight. ewan mitchell is wasted on this writing; he does so well with simple facial expressions, but the writers seem to have decided that aside from the first brothel scene, aemond doesn’t get to have emotions. or, you know, a coherent character arc — with aegon’s comments about him being a loyal hound in ep 1, i thought he was being set up to have to choose between his own ambitions and loyalty, or that he might have a scrap of complicated feelings about rook’s rest, but no, the evil switch has been flipped, so bye bye character arc. that said, i love how he’s demolishing the small council at the moment and cackled out loud when he put larys down. get his ass, babygirl. he’s also the only targtower at the moment to be actually focusing on winning the war, so well done my pragmatic wife.

daeron: he exists! at last! stupid to not even mention him in s1, but i’m so fucking excited to meet him and deeply tickled to think of him as a mini-gwayne.

i don’t have too many thoughts about team black other than that the show has done unforgivable things to baela the brave… but i must admit that jace has wormed his way into my heart by being a) the prettiest, most fashionable princess of the season and b) constantly done with rhaenyra’s bullshit. he and aemond need to get together and commiserate over having to deal with their mothers’ nonsense.

Happy Audio Drama Sunday!! When I was a non-teacher adult I thought to myself, surely as a child I exaggerated the desperate need for summer break. Now that I am a teacher adult, I can admit that I was. Wrong. I need a break, but luckily I have time for this.

Here's what I listened to this week!

@ourstoriedinsight's season finale was this week and wow. Wow. The way this show so effortlessly dances on ideas of trust, truth, and ethics while telling a story of four (five? Sir George count?) ridiculous and reluctant heroes who have only a dead friend in common is staggering. This episode especially, as you can see how they really drew together against (and then with) Sage. I love them, your honor. And I would also let Rain be my lawyer. Everyone listen to Our Storied Insight.

Jeez louise @camlannpod, can you give a girl a break? I am so glad Gwaine’s okay, and I’m fascinated by the mistrust Peredur has for him, even after they tried to track him over hill and dale. And I am SO worried about what's about to happen next. I wonder what Dai's going to do about it. I wonder if he'll do anything (please, Dai, do something).

This week's episode of Josie’s Lonely Hearts Club had me rolling. Look, I knew the title going in ("It's French for A Horny Party") and I still cackled when the line appeared in the episode. Josie, I hope you continue changing for the better. Also it inspired me to make beans and rice for dinner and that was a wild success.

When Karim Kronfli showed up at the beginning of the season of Among the Stars and Bones, I was excited, but holy heck. The performances in this show. Oh, right, and the twist at the end--you know, I really should have expected things to get a million times worse, based on how last season went, but this is a MILLION times worse. How are they gonna get out of this one folks???

@keepitsteadypod KEEP IT STEADY IS BACK KEEP IT STEADY MY BELOVED. Things are REALLY going places between Zach and Gabe now and neither of them know it. I love high schoolers, they're so dumb. Admit you like each other, dummies. Shoutout to our great good school nurse trying to fight for kids, and I thought the reveal about Zach's past was remarkably done. I love this show.

In relistening news, Life with Althaar again (what's up, @geminicollisionworks!). I rarely relisten to shows, but this one is worth my while every time. Listen to Life with Althaar, a silly space sitcom that gets Not So Silly when the story decides to commit to the bit. Althaar, I would die for you.

Inn Between is truckin right along with 5.9 this week, which I found absolutely delicious to watch the actors bring to life. It’ll be outdone only by the episode next week. In zombie news, boy oh boy, this week we're doing some recording for The Dead that I'm very worried about but ready for the challenge of. It involves directing singers in a language I do not speak! Lol pray for me. If I can make it til school ends, maybe I'll have some other news as well! Keep a weather eye out.

God i finally caught up with this book i have been putting it off because lilia is one of my favorite characters I couldn’t handle seeing the implication that he’s going to die and the diasomnia family's reaction to it

That reminded me when lilia screamed malleus’s name right before he overbloted. That gave me the chills god I can’t get over it. It’s the fact that he couldn’t do anything about it..💔

I’m so excited for the next part and what they’re cooking up. Seeing lilia, malleus and baby silver intreaction were so precious🥹🥹 the fact that the accessory we see in lilia's room in the beginning was amade by silver when he was young??? And how much lilia treasured it?? JDJSJJSJDSJKSDJJDSJ

Even though i cried multiple times i still enjoyed these parts of the book a lot and it showed me that there is still hope that things will get better. Looking forward for the next part(which will release this month) to see ignihyde's involvement on this book? Maybe?

A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 16: Crossing Paths - Episode 3: The Winter Troupe's Role

Guy: I see… I was curious how the sequel would turn out, so this is what it is.

Tasuku: Guy-san’s role is fitting for him.

Homare: And as its predecessor did, it is quite nice to see the way it connects people’s lives.

Tsumugi: While some roles have changed and some haven’t, mine and Azuma-san’s roles are in a quite unique position.

Azuma: Right. But I’m glad the two weren’t separated. It may be different in a sense, but there’s still the hope of a continuation.

Hisoka: … Yeah. I think it’s really good.

Banri: Since there’s a scene from Michael’s childhood included, we’re gonna need an ensemble of child actors, too.

Tsuzuru: That’s not something any of you guys can play a double role for, huh…

Izumi: I’ll try to do something about that.

Tasuku: So we’ll be using this script for 4Q.

Guy: I’m starting to feel the tension.

Tsumugi: Everyone has been working hard to raise our rank, we can't afford to let it fall

Tsumugi: We absolutely must get into the top 10 and be nominated.

Tsumugi: I’ve watched the performances of all troupes in the top 20, and you can really pick up on the effort and craft that’s been put into each and every one of them since 1Q.

Tsumugi: I think moving up even one rank will be difficult.

Tsumugi: On the other hand, all members of the Autumn Troupe showed tremendous growth during 3Q… They all pushed themselves to their limits and achieved this result.

Tasuku: Both famous and talented companies, as well as newer companies that have been attracting attention have been increasing the quality of their performances.

Homare: It seems that victory will not fall into our grasp so easily.

Izumi: Ever since the debut act-off with GOD-za, the Winter Troupe has always been entrusted with the most demanding roles.

Izumi: I believe that it’s precisely because of everything you’ve experienced that you’re shouldering the most pressure out of everyone.

Izumi: I do feel bad every time, but this is something I think we can entrust to you because of who you are… No one else can be our anchor other than the Winter Troupe.

Izumi: I’m not the only one that thinks so. I believe everyone in Spring, Summer, and Autumn shares the same sentiment.

Tsuzuru: We also did our best with the thought of connecting to our anchor because we believe in you.

Banri: Make the last one count, like ya usually do.

Tasuku: We can’t really say that we can’t do this when you tell us all this.

Guy: As an actor, It’s an honor to hear that.

Hisoka: I really want us to be nominated.

Homare: Right. That is our duty, after all.

Azuma: We just have to go at it.

Tsumugi: Let’s do our best right now, even if we can’t see what’s ahead of us.

Izumi: (They may not be expressing it out loud, but I’m sure they’re feeling the pressure and responsibility more than ever before.)

Izumi: (But even more than that, I can feel the passion each of them are feeling towards this performance.)

Izumi: (They want to reach the end without regrets, no matter the outcome… That’s why I want to make sure I support and watch over them properly.)

Banri: That’s ‘bout it for today’s meeting. Director-chan, ya got anything else?

Izumi: No, that’s all.

Banri: Well, next up’s the read-through. I’ll be lookin’ forward to it.

Tsumugi: We’ll have to read the script.

Tsuzuru: This goes without saying when the Winter Troupe’s involved.

Guy: …

Tasuku: …

Izumi: Everyone’s absorbed in the script. I should prepare some tea.

Homare: Ah, I have some absolutely delicious tea that I obtained at a little café just the other day.

Homare: It is a special drink that was made only on the day I purchased it, and I thought you all just had to try it. Thus, I made the impossible possible and got my hands on a few leaves.

Tsumugi: I’d really like to try that.

Azuma: Oh, I received some Western sweets some days ago, we could try them with the tea.

Hisoka: I wanna eat them.

Izumi: Do you think we’ve steeped the tea for long enough, Homare-san?

Homare: Hm, I’d say it’s just right.

Tsumugi: It smells wonderful.

Guy: It’s jasmine.

Homare: Yes. Perfect for you, is it not, Guy-san? You should let Citron-kun try some later as well.

Guy: I’m certain he will be happy.

Izumi: It’s so tasty.

Homare: It seems a part-timer created this blend of flavor. He’s got quite the skills, yes?

Homare: I was truly impressed by the artistic flavors in his tea. What a remarkable young man.

Hisoka: … It’s rare for Alice to get along with someone.

Tasuku: I can pretty much imagine what kinda person you’d have to be for that to happen…

Tsumugi: Where is the coffee shop you’re talking about?

Homare: It’s a darling little shop near Veludo Station.

Homare: It seems it was this very shop’s part-timer that picked up the item Misumi-kun dropped.

Izumi: Ohh! So that’s the shop you’re talking about.

Guy: He must be quite the expert, seeing how he has Arisugawa’s approval.

Tasuku: All tea tastes pretty much the same, though.

Tsumugi: That’s not really true.

Homare: I implore you to try more varieties. They are completely different depending on the leaves' place of origin and the season.

Hisoka: … So tasty.

Tasuku: All you’ve been doing is eating those sweets.

Azuma: Fufu, I’ve got seconds, if you want.

[Doorbell ringing]

Tsumugi: Did someone order something to be delivered today? 

Tsuzuru: Oh, I’ll go get that.

Even though Queen of Tears might not have the greatest writing for some, Baekhong love is just everything. I love seeing the trajectory of their love so much, from their dreamy fairytale dating era to marriage to falling out to rediscovering that love again. The way they would ride and die for one another and keep on falling for one another over and over again. Like I can’t even hate the tropes used because it just make their love feel so tremendous 😭❤️‍🩹 (and I’m so glad that Jiwon and Soohyun got casted for this because they definitely play a big part in making us feel that love)

I AGREE! like, the drama itself is pretty makjang and without baekhong idk if i would watch it, but whatever we get of baekhong is just???? so so so so SO life changing.

i feel like i'm truly watching a married couple and their challenges and they're both such good actors that it enhances the viewing experience tremendously. baekhong are just <3 one of the most special kdrama couples i have ever witnessed. they really give me the vibes and feels that i had watching kdramas in the early 2010s and i never thought i would feel that again but they did it! so so so thankful for soohyun and jiwon for taking these roles i can't see anyone else doing what they did.

if anything, i also hope baekhong starts a trend of more kdramas about married couples that don't involve cheating and affairs. just show me what couples go through with life! and how love perseveres!

@ everyone pissed about the Teen Wolf movie ending...

this is the most controversial thing i’ve voiced my opinion on, so...before i say what i’m about to, i want to make it clear that i love derek hale with my entire heart and i’ve put in countless hours writing fics to give him a life of happiness and healing and love. that being addressed, i’m not upset by the ending of the Teen Wolf movie. yes, i’m okay with derek’s passing. here’s why:

1 |  i love that he was made out to be a wonderful dad. his primary focus was always about eli. the strides he clearly took to become the dad eli deserved are evident in the proper house they lived in, the lacrosse games he attended, the way he tried to suppress his own shift just because he thought he traumatized eli as a kid, etc. eli was not afraid of pissing him off by stealing the jeep and being a brat, so we know derek was likely not a hard-ass with him. this is major character growth from the last time we saw him, and i think that can be attributed to becoming a father. i can’t express how much i love dad!derek.

2 |  i understand the frustration behind his death involving fire, but honestly, i think it was a way he could potentially be written back into a future installment. it wasn’t normal fire—it was jordan’s hellfire. i can very easily see how jeff (or fic writers) could come up with a storyline where derek is brought back from hell/afterlife, if necessary. what we know is that his eyes turned red (true alpha?) and then he disappeared into the hellfire—there was no body, no bones, no anything left behind to prove that he was dead. jeff could’ve easily left his burnt body there to get the point across, if he wanted. i really think it was a way to write a vague enough ending to derek that they could do something with it, if hoechlin agreed to come back for another movie.

3 |  hoechlin is not trying to be a part of this series anymore. the fact that jeff got him back for this movie was impressive, considering he doesn’t seem to have as much reliance on Teen Wolf as some of the other actors do. it was clear throughout the movie that jeff is trying to set eli up to be the new “Teen Wolf”, and i have to say, i’m so glad that jeff understood that a hale needed to be the focus and protector of beacon hills. it’s hale territory, not scott’s.

i would rather derek (potentially) die protecting his territory and son, than have jeff fuck his characterization again by making him absent from future installments while his son is risking his life as a main character, fighting off the bullshit of beacon hills. derek would never leave eli to fight those battles without him, unless he was dead. so if hoechlin isn’t coming back for future movies, and eli is meant to be the new Teen Wolf, i want derek to be dead. i’d be absolutely livid if jeff made another movie focused on eli, and derek wasn’t there beside him. that would be the biggest fuck-you to derek’s character growth jeff could’ve done.

4 |  canon literally isn’t real to us, you guys. a huge portion of our fandom hasn’t even seen the show. we’re so good at picking and choosing what we keep or ignore, because we’re fortunate enough to have a massive collection of fanfictions and art which rewrite everything thousands of different ways. instead of getting so worked up about canon shit, we can literally just go find fics of the versions we like better lol. we have such an amazing fandom that canon holds so little weight compared to the content we create. just take the things you liked from the movie and ignore the rest.

Now that Loki season two has closed the TVA Handbook on Loki’s story, the question remains as to whether Tom Hiddleston has bid adieu to the MCU. It’s hard to imagine a better ending for the former God of Mischief, and since Loki‘s potential series finale aired last week, Hiddleston even referred to the episode as the “conclusion” of his 14-year journey with Loki. However, when pressed further on the subject this week, he then created a little bit of wiggle room for himself to return someday. 

For Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright, Hiddleston’s finale performance felt like a goodbye of sorts.

“I think his approach to that performance certainly was [a send-off], and I think we all felt that on set,” Wright tells The Hollywood Reporter.

But similar to his lead actor, Wright is quick to issue his own caveats.

“We wanted this to feel like a proper ending for our show, but that does not mean that there won’t be more Loki or stories within this world,” Wright adds. “We just wanted to give this a proper ending in a way that we often don’t get to do in the MCU.”

Wright, who originated much of the series’ foundational elements through his own pitch years ago, says that he’s still making the case for more TVA stories in the MCU.

“I would love to keep telling TVA stories. Internally, people pitch everything, and I’m actively like, ‘I want to do more TVA!’” Wright shares. “It will just end up being about where it makes sense for them to come in, in the future, but we all look at that corner of the MCU and go, ‘God, we’re just scratching the surface.’”

Below, during a recent spoiler conversation with THR, Wright also addresses a couple Mobius fan theories and how he’s looking forward to developing future TV series in a more traditional fashion.

So, in the end, instead of killing Sylvie to save time itself, Loki makes the ultimate sacrifice for the good of everyone else, and in doing so, he tasks himself with literally holding the fabric of existence together. And to me, that’s both a tragic and triumphant end. Why was this the right note to end the series on?

I’m glad those are the two feelings, because that’s what we were going for. (Laughs.) I don’t know if I can answer that beyond what you just said; it’s just the right ending to the story. We always knew the show was going to end with Loki on a throne, even in season one, and it was never about where he was going. It was always about the feeling we wanted audiences to feel when he got there, and it was about building the story that led to that feeling. Ultimately, because I don’t want to get too into the weeds on the last ten minutes of the show, we all feel like the answers and the intentions are there on screen. 

But what I can say, generally, is that we are all really bored by the binary of hero-villain, good guy-bad guy, good choice-bad choice. In the real world, choices are really complicated. Real heroism often goes completely unrewarded. It often involves people who are making really tough decisions and will never benefit from the sacrifices that they’re having to make. And if you can build a superhero comic-book story that dives into the weeds of a more complicated heroism, then that was a challenge that was worth it to us to try. And Loki is the best character to do that with in many ways.

Technically, did Loki become the God of Stories, or a personified version of Yggdrasil, the Norse Tree of Life?

Are those mutually exclusive? It all comes back to questions of free will. Is he writing stories, or is he allowing stories to continue to be told? Is he weaving them together? It’s an interpretation of what exactly he did there at the end, but I think both can potentially be true.

Of course, anything is possible within the comic book genre, but this finale feels like a send-off for Tom Hiddleston as this character. Do you think we’ve seen the last of Tom’s Loki for at least a long while?

We just wanted to give this a proper ending in a way that we often don’t get to do in the MCU. But also, in Marvel comics and the history of comics, the end of a comic run doesn’t mean the end of that character or those stories. And if there’s another story to be told or further stories to be told with what we’re doing here — and it’s with the right filmmakers and the right writers and the right team — then we would love to continue to see Tom. I also said this in season one, but I honestly think Tom will play Loki until he’s Richard E. Grant’s Classic Loki. It’s about the right thing and when we’re doing it, and being really careful about how we build those stories. 

The TVA still has some unfinished business, as they have to track Kang variants. So will the TVA appear in the MCU again at some point?

I would love to keep telling TVA stories. Internally, people pitch everything, and I’m actively like, “I want to do more TVA!” It will just end up being about where it makes sense for them to come in, in the future, but we all look at that corner of the MCU and go, “God, we’re just scratching the surface.”

360 sets. You begged and pleaded for them, and they were worth their weight in gold. Kasra Farahani also sounded optimistic that this approach might become more common on other MCU projects. So do you think you’ve successfully made your case to the crested blazers of the Marvel Studios Parliament? 

We’ll see. It comes down to the speed at which we make streaming shows, and that’s natural for TV. That’s not a Marvel speed. You’re shooting a lot in small schedules, and it’s benefited by having sets and not having to do a ton of VFX in every shot. It makes good practical sense, and there’s a reason why people did it for a hundred years of moviemaking. It’s about when it makes sense for our stories, certainly, but we’re also telling comic book stories, and sometimes, things have to be more fantastical than what you can build. So it’s about being smart and how you do it. I love it, and I know our team loves it. When we were shooting Loki, we had a number of filmmakers who visited set, and their reactions were like, “They let you build all this?” And it’s like, “Yeah! Wait, you’re not? You should be doing this, too.” (Laughs.)  So, long answer short, yeah, I think people have seen what we did and they see that it’s an option now, and will hopefully embrace it.

Fan theories can be both a blessing and a curse, as your friends on WandaVision know, but have you lost any sleep over not making the McDonald’s kid a young Mobius (Owen Wilson)?

No, but I love that theory. I also saw that maybe Mobius is an Odin variant, and that was really imaginative and cool, too. So it was never discussed and I never lost sleep over it, although I read all that stuff and I love it. Partially why Loki feels more densely layered than some other projects is we know that people are looking at it in that way and are digging into everything. So everybody on the team really embraces that and goes, “If it’s in frame, it has to hold up the scrutiny.” We’re either subliminally hiding things in there, or we’re putting things in there to misdirect so that we can better impact people with something more surprising. But I love that people engage with it that way, and I hope that they see that we are engaging back with them in how we build the show.

And what about a medium shot of Loki and Mobius on the tandem bicycle? Do you regret that you won’t see that meme for the rest of your life?

No, because I can go online and I can see it in all of the amazing fan art. It’s out there. We knew you just had to handle that with a very light touch, and the audience will fill in the blanks. And they beautifully have.

Marvel made a bunch of release date moves recently, and we’re not going to see much of you in 2024. Are you a bit relieved since Marvel Studios’ own temporal loom won’t be overloaded? 

What’s exciting to me — and this is something [head of streaming at Marvel] Brad Winderbaum has talked about — is what I personally will get to be making next. We’ll really be able to have the time to slowly build it, find the right team for it, find the right people to develop it, build a pilot and build things on a more traditional schedule. It’s a little bit like the sets. It’s good, it’s practical, it’s smart, and when things are done right with the right team, these projects can be really, really good. And I think Loki is really, really good. So, if we give the development and production cycle the right amount of attention and build a calendar in a way that allows us to really do this correctly, you will get to see more projects that are of this caliber. It’s just about giving the creatives the space and the resources to do things properly. So, ultimately, this is a really good thing. I know people want more, but I also know that if we take time with it, they will appreciate what they get.

Well, the ultimate compliment I can pay all of you is that I didn’t care much for Loki prior to this series, and not because he was a bad guy or anything like that. This show fulfilled the original promise of these Marvel Disney+ series by deepening this character in a way that the movies don’t have time for, and I have nothing but fondness for Loki now. So Loki should be the case study for how valuable Disney+ can be for Marvel.

One, thank you. Two, I agree. I know that our writers, Justin [Benson], Aaron [Moorhead], Kate [Herron] and everybody would also agree, and that was the most appealing part of this. You can slowly take your time and build a really fulfilling story. We have very little action this season. (Laughs.) There’s a lot of thrills and there’s a lot of big stuff, but it was about really taking our time to build a character story that can feel truly fulfilling. So I look forward to being able to do more stories this way.

I’m glad Jensen has a new role and a production to be involved with from the start. I just hope, as you have mentioned before, that he puts in the prep work required.

What prep would you suggest someone in his position to do before filming begins?

What a beautiful question!

Here's what he could do:

Doing research on the people involved and their respective brands

Getting a good sense of the show's target audience and brand

Doing script and character analysis along with character based research - this is crucial

Making bold choices for his character that allow Jensen to broaden and explore his range

Create chemistry with his costars by genuinely connecting and also by doing chemistry exercises

Get private or on set coaching to level up his acting game

Use NLP and alpha states to create and own the memories of the character

Find the emotional triggers and beats that apply to his character and build upon those (by bringing his uniqueness)

Prepping powerful "moment before" before filming a scene

Speak to the director, showrunner and writer to get a clear sense of their vision and his character

Explore new acting exercises to enrich his actor toolbox

Rehearse choices and change them up based on desired outcome

Clearly set his overall and scene objectives and use dynamic ways of achieving them

Create a musical playlist for his character (few actor do this but it's so helpful)

Emotional Diary - diving deep into the character's emotions and finding those emotions within himself and connecting that to the character's drive ( a powerful tool to use but it requires guts)

Big one to avoid cringe acting: Make physical choices such as mannerisms, voice intonation etc in an organic way based on his inner work - this will create real behavior as opposed to mimicked behavior ( an example of mimicked behavior is his fake dean voice, it comes off blatantly fake whereas he used to play dean in a natural way in early seasons)

Most importantly, SELF CARE, acting can be very taxing so meditation and acts of self care are crucial. They allow an actor to build up the energy required to channel different emotional states.

They talk about choosing to be a "public figure" as if she could stop. Being an actor is one of the few jobs in this world that you can't totally step away from, because you are going to get recognised even after you quit. Take actors like Tom Holland, who might not have quit, but still is on along break from acting, yet paparazzi are still following him around.

If this rlly is your friend as you say, then pls educate them and teach them better, because that's what friends do, they hold each other accountable.

you’re the only person i feel comfortable saying this to. but i feel like a fake fan for not wanting to/not engaging with tlou2 content. i don’t like the story and i don’t like the characters/characterizations. it makes me really sad and uncomfortable at times. i won’t be watching season 2 when it comes out. i’m sure the making of it and the actors will all be incredible it obviously has nothing to do with them.

i know there’s like a whole thing where you don’t have to engage with content you don’t like blah blah but it just feels like *some* (emphasis on some, not generalizing here) tlou fans really get mad with people who don’t like tlou2, they think that they don’t understand it and are just mad there isn’t a happy ending and just hate abby. which, idk, i would never expect a happy ending of an apocalypse story. but there are so many problems with the story that i cannot get over. and yeah. i don’t really think **** should have died (asterisks for spoiler). honestly these people make me want to engage with tlou2 even less.

i love tlou1 and it’s been such an outlet for me and for so many others with parental trauma. i think it’s okay to want to protect that.

I've watched the show and played both games, and it is always okay to dislike any aspect of a canon universe, no matter what your reasoning is.

A tiny part of me is still riding the denial train and hopes that Craig will at the very least vastly improve the plot if not change it, but since Neil is also involved I doubt it. The first game was perfect as a stand-alone, and just like you, the characters and the world helped me work through a bunch of issues.

It didn't need a part 2, especially not one that demolished everything they had built. The one we got also destroyed some of the comfort the first game had simply because once you know how the story ends, you will never be able to see it again like you did before.

Pedro and Bella will be amazing in season two, that am sure of, and I hope Kaitlyn can shield herself from the hate she will undoubtedly receive.

The fandom is, like you said, very. sensitive about part 2 opinions that aren't "I loved it and want Abby to rail me", and it would be hilarious if it weren't sad and didn't involve those people harassing others. After playing part 2, I realised that 90% of the tlou content I see anywhere is so removed from what is actually happening in the game that I cannot take anyone who praises it seriously.

For some reason, many seem incapable of separating themselves from people's opinions about the game. If you told me you liked the game and constantly talk about it, sure, fine, I am not a toddler, I can co-exist or even be friends with someone who has a different opinion on a video game. 99% of the tlou2 fandom just cannot do the same and I have no idea why, they take any and all non-positive takes and treat them like I personally insulted their mother.

The pure game mechanics of it, the infected, the environmental designs, the details—all of that is beautiful and I genuinely enjoy playing Ellie's Seattle Days because of that; I just try not to think about why she's there. But for a story-driven game, good mechanics and nice graphics aren't enough to balance out the shit writing.

Even if we ignore the Death tm, there are so many other issues, including various flavours of homophobia and transphobia (that I also never saw anyone talk about??? and I mean transphobia in the writing itself, not the characters), plot issues, pacing issues, horrible character development, and much, much more.

Not liking the game and feeling uncomfortable watching/playing it makes perfect sense, and you 100% have the right to block any and all content related to part/season 2. I know you know that, but sometimes it really does help to have someone else tell you something you technically already know (half of my therapy sessions consist of me and my therapist talking about stuff I already know).

No one—and I mean no one—gets to decide that for you. Anyone who demands you expose yourself to something that makes you feel like shit is an asshole and has no validity.

I hope this wasn't too rambly and turned out somewhat coherent. My inbox is always open for you (or others) to talk about anything tlou related. I've weathered several waves of hate from those people and I couldn't give less of a fuck about it.

i was 16 or 17 and very much in the closet (even to myself) when sherlock season 4 came out. i was gutted and i didnt even know exactly why i had such a strong emotional reaction

but now, i’m 23 and an out and proud bi lady. good omens season 2 was so incredibly healing and honestly it watched just like an actually-not-unrequited-love angst fic

I'm SO proud of you for being yourself, and I'm glad that, inevitably, everything worked out in the end for you.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my feeling that S2 of Good Omens is HOPEFUL, and that it also gave others in the Sherlock fandom a COMPLETELY different feeling than Sherlock S4 gave us.

S2 WAS so beautiful and healing and just UGH I love how their relationship is portrayed, and that their argument needed to happen for them to finally get over themselves and be a pair! <3 It ABSOLUTELY is a SLOW BURN ANGST fic that the author will be tagging with the next chapter "Happy Ending". Plus I feel confident because EVERYONE involved with the show seems to REALLY ADORE this story and telling it RIGHT, that everyone seems to have some input into what is being done, and I am SO here for it. It's SUCH a change from the secretive, cut-off-from-the-actors aura that BBCS-S4 exuded.

I love Good Omens and whatever format Gaiman ends up putting S3 in (if GO isn't renewed), I will be supporting that too <3
