This one is a bit older but don't let that scare you off.

I’ll admit, the movie I’m about to rant/rave about isn’t the most exciting/ action-packed movie ever BUT I love it anyway. Yeah, it’s not the most original plot. Yeah, there are a few clichés. Yeah, I didn’t fall in love with the soundtrack. BUT BUT BUT!

Yes or No is just so freaking cute, and I kinda fell in love with the main two? *Cough* Kim has my heart *cough*. Well, let’s get into this.

Yes or No is a college-set story in which we have Pie (Sushar Manaying/ Aom), a girl who has a negative view of tomboys and lesbians (fueled by her mother’s rather traditional views). Pie ends up rooming with Kim (Suppanad Jittaleela/ Tina), a girl who is very tomboyish and to all who see her, looks like a boy. The two start off at odds as Pie does her best to tolerate living with Kim much to Kim’s bemusement, going as far as to divide their room with red tape. Slowly, however, despite Pie’s initial misgivings, the two grow closer as they learn more about each other and grow to be friends and discover new feelings.

I’m not trying to say it’s the best movie ever and everyone has to love it, but here’s what I loved about it.

First up, the plot! Ok, it’s nothing original by far and even before I watched it I had already heard it was going to be some similar to a less toxic version of TharnType (which was a major plus so…). But, there have been so many heterosexual romantic movies that do the same things over and over again, I’ve often found myself thinking, this would be interesting if they had just made the couple both men or both women because that would change the dynamic so much. Bring some of that fanfiction to the screen. And Yes or No did that. And I loved it. Maybe it’s exactly that that makes some people less than keen on the movie but I don’t know, sometimes I just want a queer movie that doesn’t feel part of an entirely new genre they made for queer films because ew heteros or because the hetero dominated film industry wants nothing to do with it. I have no idea if anyone feels the same as me but I have simple tastes and SOMETIMES what I want is a sweet romance that just so happens to also be queer.

If that makes sense.

If not, then another thing I loved is the acting! Or am I talking more about the characters themselves? Either way, the acting/ characters just felt so real and natural. There were some really cute subtle details in the way the two female leads interacted: small smiles, little touches, the hugs (they were so adorable). Not just interactions between the main couple tho, there was also that scene where Kim goes home heartbroken and just hugs her dad, no explanations, no awkward back pats, she just goes in for a hug and he accepts her and doesn’t ask. It made my heart ache (in a good way). But back to Pie and Kim, they are so cute together?? I can’t?? Their relationship is based on their friendship and it is so sweet and such a strong connection and they are beautiful together.

Maybe this is just me because I’ve never really watched any GLs before (honestly, I don’t think there are that many out there which sucks) but I adored the way that even with Kim looking like a boy and being the chill one out of the two, the couple didn’t fall into a typical boy-girl dynamic where Kim's character was essentially a guy. Kim was who she was, maybe boy-like in appearance but that was just how she liked to dress and she wasn’t pushed to act masculine, she didn’t dominate the relationship, she wasn’t the one who was always to the rescue of the damsel in distress. In fact, if anything, I would probably say that Pie is the real rock between them. Despite coming off as a bit like the typical whiney female lead at the start, she was also there to help Kim when she got scared, she took care of her when she got sick without a fuss and when Kim went off to cry in the rain, Pie went after her with an umbrella to bring her back.

Another thing I wanna say is that I loved how Yes or No didn’t feel the need to make their relationship sexual to make it captivating. No sex scenes, no nudity, no intense kisses. Just love, and fluff and wholesome hugs. I’m telling you, it may not sound like it, but hugs can give you just as many butterflies while watching as seeing the main couple smooch. I feel like it means more, even. Kim and Pie do kiss in the movie, but it’s simple, it’s sweet, it’s not overdone and it’s real. It’s not the climax of their relationship but just another way for them to show affection for each other like it should be.

I have no idea how the movie comes across with what I’ve said, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be rewatching this in the future.

I watch and love plenty of shows, I just don’t usually blog about them here. I mean, it’s my blog and I can do with it what I want (duh :P), but it's very much an RNM blog atm, and given how much I post on average, if I’d start blogging about other shows, too... it’d be a bit much. (It’s already A LOT™ tbh 🙈)

And for the life of me, I can’t handle side blogs (I have the attention span of a tired gnat, I’d post to the wrong blog all the time). So either I smoosh everything in here, or I don’t blog about too many other things outside of RNM. I will probably blog a bit more about Superman & Lois once the show’s out (bc Hoech’s my boo and I’m ridiculously excited to have him back on my screen), but for the time being, I’ll stick to this being a “mainly RNM” blog.

Anyway, I really like JATP, and I enjoy the occasional gif set passing by on my dash. Very much looking forward to S2. Bc man, THEY CAN’T LEAVE US HANGING LIKE THAT! 👻👻👻

And while we’re at it, have you watched Ted Lasso? Have any of you? @andrea-lyn​ recced the show, and it’s just SOOO GOOD!!! Like JATP, it just lifts your spirits, it makes you laugh and smile and weep and it’s SO heartwarming, so kind (srsly, the kindness is killing me, it’s a balm to my very soul), it’s what I needed this year. Everyone should have a Coach Lasso in their life. ❤️

The Mandalorian probably goes without saying, right? It’s been over 24hrs and I have not recovered from the S2 finale yet. But man, I love the show so fiercely, it’s legit one of my favorite shows ever. In the next couple of days I’ll get my copy of “The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian”, a book with concept art and lots of behind the scenes stuff. Bc let me tell you, that’s my jaaaaam. God, I’m legit giddy just thinking about flipping through that book. I’ll probably clutch my mini replica of Mando’s helmet (yes, that’s something I own, it’s about the size of a baseball, it’s so pretty) to my chest while crying over the gorgeous art.

Another must-see from this year: The Haunting of Bly Manor. S1 (Hill House) was already SO good, but damn, Bly was even batter. I mean, any show that has Rahul Kohli with a stache (this man, I swear, I love him so much), a character like Hannah Grose (who I just love so fiercely) and the cutest lesbians (”Poppins” 🥺😭) in it will be very high on my list of SHOWS THAT I LOVE.

Oh, and a movie I just watched this week I can’t recommend highly enough: Wolfwalkers! Good lord, so, so gorgeous, and the story was just absolutely beautiful! Definitely one I’ll rewatch again and again.

Rounding this post up with a rec for another (supposed) kid’s movie I loved this year: Enola Holmes. Millie B Brown is just perfect in that role, the music is brilliant, and I’ve watched the movie at least 10 times or so bc it’s just so much fun and puts me in a good mood. :D

Ohhhh, and to make this post at least remotely about RNM: I watched Paramount’s Dashing in December yesterday, and if that one isn’t the most Malex Christmas movie! A curly haired cowboy, a dark haired love interest, a woc childhood friend (happily married tho, there’s no dumb triangle). Also both actors are gay irl (and adorable on social media), that’s also quite nice. After the disaster Happiest Season was for me personally, this was the queer Christmas rom com I needed in my life (after The Thing about Harry, another queer rom com I loved this year)!

1. Sam praying. I don’t really know why this one got me, but the fact that Sam believes in a higher power, or tried to believe with his entire soul, and Dean desperately tries to get his brother to believe in something(unbroken? tries to make sure he’s ok because Dean never will be? Something like that?) feels important? Or maybe it’s that for Dean, Dad’s Orders and Consequence hit as the Ultimate Punishment, whereas Sam got to relax about it a bit

Look am I directly finding parallels to my own experience now? yes of course, it’s my unparalleled media experience and I can project if I want to. I’m WAY more scared of my parents/dad and what they do than I am of any higher power(crying while driving home as Vibe Music that I generally enjoy vs the Season 3 finale scene wheeee), whereas my sister actually tried to give religion a fair shot and used to pray. It’s not a direct parallel, but it’s been a bad day, I wanna put that in there somewhere

(also if it genuinely wasn’t my fault and I just assumed that I would never be able to explain my way out of anything so I shouldn’t try, leading me wishing to never be perceived so I don’t get punished for things that weren’t my fault. If true then Pain)

2. Smart Sam. I liked Sam being smart, doing shit for the case in interesting ways, and I really like his powers plot line! Like you’re right dude! Heaven has no compelling reasoning other than “because I told you so” and it’s way more practical to just do it! His mom and girlfriend are already dead there’s nothing else to be done now! Like! Sam’s Antichrist arc is actually interesting! And I like him getting to be a character! The mask Idea was SO NEAT!!

3. bad apples+mission from God. I. Ok. Listen. This is just that one loaded conversation with “bad apple”(I’d like to point out that at some point it shows Cas as the Only Good One, right? dismantle the institution type thing, right? Is that what they were going for?) and also that “people who believe they have a mission from God do bad thing” LIKE SO CLOSE ! To SO MANY! lOADED THINGS! A G H

Look I’m too tired to type out all my thoughts to this, but I think you get the point that this is shit I wish they’d explored more

4. I entirely forgot that whole thing where they tried to show Dean objectifying teen girls and accidentally made Dean sound like he wanted to be a girl. Like even if that’s simply sexuality, or both gender and sexuality...like that’s. how did you do this. How did you accidentally make him like this.

5. Cas/Cas+Dean. Ok first off, having him desperately try to save humanity(reminds me of aziraphale) is so interesting! like It feels like Dean(who's working on not taking orders blindly anymore following that demon deal) doesn’t like seeing Castiel and Heaven because it reminds him of that part of himself he’s worthing through! and that one scene where Cas said “I’m not a hammer”(Directly parallel to “Daddy’s blunt little instrument”) is like. Dean started that journey in Cas. Getting him to question things. 

that whole thing about “I know this was a test, but we don’t know if you failed it or not” because I don’t know what God would want because God’s the ever present father figure for Cas, and Dean’s lack of faith in God, and Cas’s lack of faith in God and

ok they have an INCREDIBLY compelling story currently, and I am kinda excited to see where they go with it.

ok, as you can see i've decided to not make the same mistake twice and answer everything in one go, let's hope i won't fuck it up lol

first of all i LOVE that you are liveblogging it in my inbox 💙 and second of all get emotionally and mentally ready for the 5th episode, it's the one that made fandom (which was bigger than 5 people at the time) cry tears of joy and celebrate, little did we know that soon enough we'll be crying tears of disappointment and pain once the show will fuck itself up, but the fifth episode? still amazing

now that it's out of the way:

trust me there are more characters than just riley that you'll grow to hate probably, because jesus fuck many fucked up things are ahead... and i mean i adore natalie dormer, she's my favourite actress and the reason for my biness but her characters? they are cool and well acted, but i don't like them as... well people, they are not even human tho... you get what i mean

i loved councilwoman too, she was cool 💙

natalie is amazing and i'm sad for her that the show only had one season, because she had such a great opportunity to play with all those characters and it was gone too soon

yeah, the whole thing with the party was definitely... something

molly is a pretty strange character that i still don't know how to feel about and their relationships with tiago were written pretty strangely too

the graveyard scene was amazing, honestly nathan lane is amazing and i loved his character a lot, and their dynamic with tiago too, such a good duo

oh yeah, the kid was creepy as fuck and i only wish this storyline with him was going somewhere, but it felt like his was there just for scares, and about the torso girl it was definitely the kid too, and i have to tell you for some reason this girl is the scariest thing i've seen in the last few years, i am genuinely scared of her to the point where even seeing the gifs of her without warning gives me panic, i don't know why exactly but she's a fucking nightmare to me, no joke

well, i don't forget that dominic is there, i just kind of don't associate jace with kurt at all? so it's easy for me, i kind of feel that you will dislike this storyline even more further when we get to that part of the show with "there are two queer couples in the entire show, guess which one gets fucked over", but honestly i'm one of those people that believe any representation is... representation, you know, gay people can be bad or good, etc, still a little bit sad about this show's choices tho

mateo and josefina is a brotp for life, their relationship give me the will to live, i'm writing a fic now and their bond has a huge role in it because i love them so much

that scene was disturbing to say the least, i was so shocked after it and i still can't get over what happened, my poor baby girl, riley deserves everything that's coming and more

raul is everything and deserves all the respect, and... peacemaker... funny you should say that *cries like a fucking baby* this show treated their peacemakers like shit, didn't it... jesus fuck i'm sad now

i was laughing when i read the "mateo goes to the cat" part because i was waiting for the "OH HE DID GO TO THE CAT" lmao, of course, where else can he go if not to share with his boyfriend

you know what's funny? at some point i was joking like "lol what if with kurt and townsend it's not a trap, well not really, what if there's gonna be a genuine love story while flyvega will end up so fucked that we will all wish they were never a thing in the first place", well guess what lol, i should have never joked about anything in this show, my jokes were always a prophecy

of course mateo went to the cat, and oh my god yes, the character design for rico is amazing in every fucking scene, like it's just so perfect?? also i fucking love this moment because once again it shows us that rico is capable of violence, but he is never for it, it's never an answer for him, he's a true leader, levelheaded, calm, thinking, and mateo (and diego) is just... all emotions and will to fight, but he doesn't know what the fuck is he even doing and he's so childish and naive and... good god you'll see how the last episode will fuck it all up while trying to convince us otherwise

yeah, i wish they would explore molly more, and gave josefina more screen time so we really got to find out more and feel more connected to her and that storyline, sadly it was on the background so much that it didn't even make real sense or emotional impact at the end, but it was scary and exciting and interesting at this point in the story, after the end of the season there was even a theory that fina will become new molly at some point, but... well, we'll never know and i wouldn't want that to happen anyways so...

also i'm sad that josefina never got to tell about what happened to anyone in the family, raul would have been a good choice tho

i love everything about rico in this scene because once again it's obvious about the character that he does what needs to be done because basically his people were asking him for a change to avenge themselves, he gets the girl out first, he makes sure riley can't hurt anyone and is defenceless, and then he gives diego and mateo exactly what they both asked for, diego wanted to break riley's face to make him pay for the time riley did the same thing to him? he got to do it! mateo wanted to avenge fina? was so sure it's the right thing to do? great, than fucking do what you came here for, i like how rico just basically does all of that not because he enjoys any part of it but because it's like "you asked for it? he's yours, do what you need to do"

the whole scene was framed beautifully tho, and i still feel like this frame with their hands when rico gives the knife to mateo is one of the most beautiful shots in the whole show

mateo is once again emotional, messy, inexperienced, scared, and the whole body language was perfect there, shout out to jonathan, he played the character beautifully and deserved more screen time and better writing for mateo at the end

well, maybe that movie night was a date and we just don't get it lmao, but yeah, it was weird

i still don't even know how i feel about tiago and molly so i get you 100%

come back to scream at me about episode five, it's gonna be.. interesting lol 💙
