Me discoursing about Dylan Lenivy’s depiction in fanfic: he is not a child, he’s a grown-ass man. Yeah, he gets scared when something is trying to eat him and his friends, but he’s far from helpless, even with one hand. He’s not perfect and he can be mean and stubborn and make jokes at terribly inopportune times. He deserves to be a fully fleshed out character like that! Portraying him like he’s some kind of perfect uwu bbgurl/continuously sobbing perma-victim does his character a huge disservice and is almost certainly informed by an insidious culture of homophobia and ableism.

Me when I play the game and Dylan comes on screen: oh my god looooook. It is ✨HIM.✨ The boy ever. An actual baby. My literal son. My perfect child. I will go to fucking war to protect you.

I know the Tim fandom trope of the Batfam not finding out about his missing spleen until later is mostly for angst and humor so it’s not necessarily worried about the technicalities—but just to be more serious for a moment, I think it’s unlikely Alfred wouldn’t notice a fresh surgery scar when he was wrapping Tim’s injuries from the fight with Ra’s, right after they reunited.

Given it was a recent emergency surgery, it would be pretty obvious I think? Especially since Tim kept clutching that area when he woke up, either from that injury or another one from this issue:

And Alfred had just spent the past few months having not seen Tim since the day he opened a grieving Tim’s bedroom door to find him gone (unless he saw Tim briefly during Blackest Night, but even still). Then Dick finally brings Tim back to Alfred unconscious and bloody…I just think Alfred would be giving Tim a very thorough checkup and would NOT miss a recent splenectomy scar.

All this to say this doesn’t mean people can’t ignore these details for fun but I think we could always be milking a lot more angst out of Red Robin #12.

1. Restore the baize token, for the stability of both realms and the health and happiness of the goddess. Check

2. Get the demon hunting bureau reestablished, to protect demons from chongwu camp and to get zhuo yichen a steady living. Check

3. Keep the baize goddess and the holder of the cloud light sword alive. Check

4. Die before killing more people in a murder trance. Check

Its just that the WAY he got these things was so much better and harder than he ever anticipated, and he started wanting more than that along the way. Like:

1. To protect the other members of the demon hunting bureau party (1/3)

2. To save li lun and reconcile with him (1/2)

3. To not be lonely anymore. Check

4. To have more time
