ok so the case

a new club recently opened in town

and it’s currently the most popular one bc the owner is a very famous millionaire and has his famous guests over all of the time

however

there has been a couple of reports asking the officials to check for some suspicious activities going on inside

the reports seemed valid considering how details from different sources matched with each other

but the police can’t just barge in and do a thorough check

bc the one who owns the club is kind of a big deal

seungkwan - great banter with the hosts and judges - one of those bakers who are really health conscious e.g. making fat free cakes, or using the natural sugars from carrots to flavor his bake - calls his mom when he gets star baker and cries - running around and helping other people in the last 10 minutes. 

vernon - crazy looking bakes that paul takes issue with but somehow always nails the flavors  - seems to wing it and is not sure what he’s doing during every technical and nails it. - great facial expressions when he’s trying to get the cake out of the pan 

dino - young ambitious contestant who is extremely skilled and makes it pretty far - witty and charming comments to the judges  - paul compliments him on his great flavors that always pack a punch

MOOD...but I’m always up to talk about Ainsley!

She’s definitely a very interesting character and the finale re contextualizes what we already knew about her in a lot of ways. Let’s start with her childhood. We know a lot less about it than we do Malcolm’s but I still think there’s some things we can extrapolate. For one, she was in therapy post-arrest, which means Jessica was at least slightly concerned about how she was dealing with Martin. We also know John Watkins was her “imaginary friend” for long enough for her to give him a name and for him to give her an angle figure. I’m guessing post-arrest, John stopped coming over to the house much because he didn’t want to risk drawing attention to himself while the Surgeon case was still so fresh and this probably coincided with Ainsley starting to grow out of imaginary friends. Aside from that obvious deviation, her childhood was fairly “normal.” I think she was in a weird spot where her mother simultaneously payed too much attention to her and not enough attention. Her comment about how everything is always about Malcolm in episode 4 makes me think that this was a reoccurring theme growing up; Jessica was always focused on Malcolm, whether that be her freaking out over any kind of violent tendencies he could have or all the arguments I’m sure they got into as he got older (remember how tense and cold their relationship was at the beginning of the series). But at the same time, Ainsley was considered the “perfect” child, the only one in the family that wasn’t REALLY affected by Martin, the one Jessica could bring to events and who had friends and hobbies that weren’t collecting weapons or owning snakes. And we know she was never allowed to talk about Martin growing up. 

Which brings me to the main aspect of Ainsley’s mental health: repression, repression, repression. Dear lord, like we joke about Malcolm’s unprocessed trauma but she has so many daddy issues (tm) it’s not even funny. The fact that she was always expected to be unaffected/perfect forced her to bury all the feelings she had about her father under the surface until she’s about to explode. Jessica tells her she should be grateful that she wasn’t traumatized like Malcolm, that her life wasn’t ruined like hers was, that she gets to have a boyfriend and a career she loves and isn’t one trigger away from a mental breakdown. But Ainsley IS traumatized; being young when a traumatic event happens doesn’t mean you don’t remember it or aren’t affected by it. If anything, it makes it worse bc you are exposed to this horror and betrayal at an age where you are still learning how the world works. One of Ainsely’s first memories is her father being arrested for murdering 23 people; what kind of foundation does that lay for her life? It’s completely understandable why she wants to see her father, wants to understand him. Hell, even Malcolm, no matter how much he tries to hide it, WANTS his father to love him and for them to somehow go back to the relationship they had before all This happened. I know a lot of people think she’s a sociopath or a narcissist like Martin but her behavior really comes off to me as someone who is unraveling from unresolved trauma that they have been hiding their whole life. It doesn’t excuse her doing things like telling Martin about Malcolm’s mental health or filming Jin’s surgery but it does contextualize them. She needs tangible proof about how horrible her father is, so she confronts him with Malcolm’s issues since she doesn’t want to speak to any of her own. Idk if Ainsley meets the diagnostic criteria for anything specific but she has clearly been hurting for a long time, to the point where Endicott threatening her family makes her “snap” and blackout while she kills him. I wouldn’t be shocked if she has PTSD like Malcolm does. And I think the trauma she went through has just been made worse by how she was treated after it. While Malcolm’s reactions to his trauma tends to be more external, Ainsley has always been bottling it up (with encouragement from Jessica...she was in a hard situation but lbr she has not been super understanding of Ainsley’s pain this season). The problem is: I tried. I tried so hard to contest this.

But both the staff AND my insurance company informed me that *I* was somehow supposed to know what procedures constitute as “preventive”, and the bloodwork they did isn’t considered that, so it isn’t covered by my insurance.

And they just flat told me that I should have figured it out myself beforehand.

So my insurance company doesn’t have my back, the staff doesn’t have my back, and the last time I talked to anyone about the bill, the bEST they could offer me was a payment plan (that comes with its own fee for enrolling into, which would ultimately mean MORE money that I have to pay).

In any case, I DID get the money for the bill (thanks @voiceofallmtg and Liam for being the biggest contributors). So I’m just...going to wait for the money from PayPal to hit my bank so I can get this paid before it’s sent to collections. Because that’s the absolute last thing I need.

So. This is terrific.

I just got a call from the hospital that originally did my bloodwork, and it turns out that the procedure they did is NOT, in fact, covered by my insurance, because it’s not considered preventive.

And at no point when I asked if it was, did anyone on staff think to double check to make sure that they were giving me accurate information.

And that is apparently my fault. :)))))

So now I owe $310 that I was told I wouldn’t have to pay.
