About all this drama 🤪
Oh wow! Never thought I would cause such a drama!
Anyway I want to say a couple of words so we can close this theme :) sorry for my awful English again
First of all thank you all for your support! It means a lot for me!
Secondly I fully understand why this topic is such a pain. I’m exactly that girl who was chosen the last in gym classes 😂 haha. Also I’m maybe new here on tumblr’ thg fandom (although my first illustration here was upload in 2014) but I’m a big thg fan since 2012. And I was a part of Russian THG community (which is nearly dead now), and also participated in community contests with my fanarts and nobody liked it hahaha, so I know the feeling, ok? Please don’t think that I want to hurt someone. I absolutely thrilled to read different stories and draw more fic fanarts.
About fanfiction. 2012 was the worst year for me and Hunger Games literally saved my life. I spent hours in the public library reading and rereading THG series, drawing fanart (awful of course haha, I’ve published some of it here a month ago) and I spent my money on “The Hunger Games” movie tickets instead of my lunch, I watched this movie around 10 times and sometimes I was the only one in the cinema 😅. I just really didn’t want to go home and THG was my safe place, my escape from all the shit that happed in my life those days. And now I have this strict connection with peace and comfort and the Hunger Games. When I feel bad or hurt I just open one of the books or reread full series (my husband thinks that I’m mad and always like “what, hunger games agaaaain?” haha, oh and our first date was “Mockingjay part1” premiere so ok, you can see why I love THG so much, this series brought me happiness, joy and husband 😂).
But! But I’ve never read any Hunger Games fanfiction even at my deepest obsession times. I just didn’t think it would work with me. I’m very canon-head to be honest. You can see it in my main fanart series: I draw canon outfits and moments, it was my main purpose when I’ve returned to thg fanart. Back in 2012 I started to read “Grow Together” by Miss Scarlett 05 and through it was really interesting I didn’t finished it because it didn’t feel canonical enough to me 😅. So that was my only thg fic experience till this fall. And to be honest I had no intention to read something at all. Like AT ALL. But at some point I felt like I want to give “Grow Together” a second chance because I remembered that it was really enjoyable. And I failed to find it! I didn’t know where to go and what to do 😂. That’s how I found @everlarkficquestions blog (thank you guys!). So when I finally find this story and read it in full (great fic through!) I’ve started to think maybe I was wrong about fanfiction? I subscribed to @everlarkficquestions and sometimes looked through their posts that appeared at my dash. And one day they mentioned @katnissdoesnotfollowback and I was like AHAHA WHAT A FUNNY NICKNAME and I knew literally NOTHING about her and had no idea how popular she is. I just thought that person with such funny nickname should write something interesting maybe. And I decided to read something from her. And (it’s time for one funny story I promised) it was not one of her super popular fics (I even didn’t know they existed) it was “Maybe Tomorrow”. I didn’t read summary properly, I just caught something about snowstorm and “write more smut” and I was like what the hell smut is? 😂😂😂 I had no idea 🤣. So when I’ve started reading I was really confused because what? Airport? Tinder? What the hell is going on? And then I understand that it was modern au and I didn’t know what to do with it. My brain was boiling trying to imagine Peeta and Katniss in our world and it was not easy for me to be honest. And at some point I wanted to stop reading but I just kept reading because the writing style! Characters! The plot itself! When I got what “smut” actually was... HAHAHAHA if you just saw my face at this moment 😂😂😂 I was like OH MY GOSH ARE THEY GONNA... OH MY GOOOOOOD WHAT THE HELL MY SWEET LITTLE BABIES OH GOSH AGAIN?? OH WOOOOOOOW HOW COULD SOMETHING SO EMBARRASSING BE SOOOOO WONDERFUL??
Tumblr media
Ok, I liked it, haha.
So that was my first ever modern au and first ever smut fic and I didn’t know what to do with all this new information. Through I really love this story I was not convinced if I really like something so not-canonical. So I open masterlist and pick the story with what I thought sounds canonical “The Act” and... haha, I read the summary and it was modern au again and moreover it was about the band! My brain screams “STOOOOOOP” but I read it and ok, now I know that I LOVE modern aus 😂. And I decided to return to @katnissdoesnotfollowback and read her other stories because I really loved her writing style and ok, you know they say you can’t forget your first love?
So please don’t blame me for loving her (nobody recommended her stories to me I found them myself and just feel in love), she introduced me to this spectacular world of “not only canon stories” and different versions of everlark and helped me to break the “only-canon” wall in my head and all this perfectly written smut haha. So now my mind is open for all kinds of fanfics and I’m ready to read your fantastic stories and draw more fanart! I’m really thrilled about it! Oh @sunsetsrmydreams says something about sexy librarian Peeta oh my god I’m reeeeeeady!
But before I read and draw something new I want to draw some more fanarts for @katnissdoesnotfollowback fics and I really REALLY hope you all will enjoy it and don’t feel bad about it ❤️
I love this fandom and all your support and comments on my art and hope you will enjoy my illustrations and fanarts for different stories and authors!
Love,
Ilona

For the salty asks: numbers one, five, six, and twenty through twenty-three please 😇
I live for the chaos so pls just... go off my dude
Ah Tay, reason #187893467 that I love you is that you indulge me in my rants <3
Salty asks are from this post!
K this got LONG so here's a read more!
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Honestly even though I don't multi-ship often I DO usually get the appeal behind ships so this is a really short list. This will probably get me some hate but I still to this day can't get behind c/ex@ from the show that will not be named. But then again I do get the appeal of two super attractive women with chemistry and the whole ruler/ girl who makes the ruler change their ways thing. So I guess I get it even if I don't like it?
Also, and this is not to hate on Hinny, but Harry and Ginny from HP are not my cup of tea. I like what fandom has done for them but the actual content we get for them in the books (and movies, but I prefer the books) isn't enough for me to love them. Same with Mal and Alina from S & B/ Grishaverse, they're so bland to me in the books but the show is doing far better with them and actually making Mal ya know. Likeable. Again, I don't ship it, but best friends to lovers is top tier so I get it.
Oh! I also don't really get Dwalin/Ori from The Hobbit, but that is probably in large part because I'm a Dwalin/Nori shipper. Again though, all of the secondary characters' relationships in The Hobbit rely on fans to extrapolate HARD and wear extreme shipper goggles, and ik there's that scene where Dwalin helps Ori out of the river so like.. maybe that's where it's from? I don't hate it or anything but it's always something that's made me go ??? cause I have no idea where the heck it came from.
Apart from that... I can't think of any rn? I feel like I understand where all the PJO ships come from, even if I don't ship them. There are a couple that I don't understand how they can be someone's OTP, just because I find them super boring (no offense to those who ship C@leo or J@siper but I just don't love how Rick handled those relationships). In TSC I think fandom mainly vibes with the same pairings and that's true for most of my book fandoms. With the shows I watch I don't think fans majorly ship anything too out there for me. Maybe I don't interact enough with fandoms to tell. So this is all I got.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Oh my god, oh my god, this is a can of worms, my lord. A pairing I'm not so sure about, but characters? Abso-fucking-lutely. I took a break from PJO fandom for exactly that reason and the list of characters is endless honestly, for multiple fandoms.
I won't say fandom ruined Bell@rke for me cause I still ship it, but I definitely lost enthusiasm with how toxic the shows fandom was and then that was made even worse when the show completely destroyed itself with the worst writing and plots ever in the latter seasons.
Also I have a feeling that G@me of Thrones/ @soiaf ruined one for me but I can't remember this very second. Maybe not, and again that's probably cause I don't interact with fandoms en masse, usually just through fic and following a few people I vibe with in each.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
Yes, quite a few! I used to dislike Drarry (for obvious reasons I feel) and Romione (as a kid I wanted Hermione to be with Harry and even when I grew out of that I really didn't like she was with Ron) but fandom changed that for sure. And same with Darklina now, I was upset cause I felt like the books really underutilized their relationship and fell short of what could have been a super awesome pairing if better explored, but the show fandom is taking it in so many different ways that I'm starting to really love them despite the reasons I shouldn't.
And I won't say I hated Hayffie in THG, but definitely the only reason I ship them is from reading @ellanainthetardis's fic Have a Drink Sweetheart and then all the others written for them. That portrayal of Hayffie and the characters have become my own headcanons now because I've been reading them for so long and they're so good.
Fandom made me ship Leon and Morgana from Merlin too, though that's very lowkey. I never hated them, I just never thought of them as a pairing until reading fic.
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
Percabeth. I don't care which fandom, it's Percabeth. Growing up together, going from enemies to friends to best friends to lovers? The establishment of them being best friends and the way Rick wrote that friendship was so pure, and they are a couple with no internal problems, all external, and you just know they're gonna be together through everything, fighting at each other's side, cause that's the way they are. There's a reason they're my OTP and it's cause they are the most well-established, ride or die couple I can think of. They're just so solid.
21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?
Love em for fandom but personally I very rarely get behind crackships just because I usually need a lot of build up, scenes, good dialogue and chemistry, etc. to ship something, so most of my ships aren't crack ships. The only one I can really think of that I actively root for and ship and would read fic for is Billy/ Owen from 911 Lonestar which is just... something.
Like idk if Barduil from The Hobbit is crack because ik it's quite popular... what makes a ship a crack ship anyway? Lack of canon reference? Is it cause they two characters would be so random together because they barely ever interact? Or because it's SO unrealistic you know for sure it will never happen but want it to anyway? Or is it lack of popularity in fandom? I need someone to define this so I have a better answer :D if it's the second option then I have MANY
I love seeing fandom stuff for crack ships though, cause seriously, it's fiction, ship who you want. If you ship two characters just cause you think they're pretty side by side then that's enough for me. Make all of the fan art and fic you like.
22. Popular character you hate?
Oof. Jason from HOO. And Leo in everything after The Lost Hero. I hated Piper in The Lost Hero and Mark of Athena but like her after those. I don't like any of the book characters from S & B except Nikolai, but I like everyone in the show (except David? Why did they make him so weird? Like he's not even awkward, he's straight up rude imo, but anyway). In @soiaf I don't like Jon Snow, I think he's boring. And I despise Jorah Mormont cause I think he's creepy for having a crush on Dany.
Didn't love Stefan in TVD, too much of a goody-two-shoes. I liked dark Stefan but it felt like a totally different character. Honestly most of the characters I don't like cause they're boring or too by-the-book.
OH! A big one in M@rvel is Captain America. Can't stand him honestly, I like him as a character to have in the story, but I like never agree with him on anything. I like a couple of his one-liners but that's it really. I also don't like Gale in THG, idk if that's controversial. Or Lex@ from the show that will not be named because I think she's manipulative and not good for any of the characters i DO love.
Is Ron popular? I think so. I like fandom Ron but not canon Ron and idk why. I think I'm growing out of it but I read those books when I was like 7 initially so I thought it was awful of Ron to stop being friends with Harry because he was jealous and I never really got over that.
There are so many but I'm gonna stop now.
23. Unpopular character you love?
Again, tons. I love anyone whose got kind of a tortured backstory because it makes them more interesting to me.
I love Movieverse Hawkeye! I think Clint is great and while I wish his deafness was canon in Marvel and I don't love J Remmer, I do love Hawkeye a lot. He was honestly one of the only Marvel characters that felt consistent and in-character throughout the movies.
I like President Snow from THG just cause I think he was a fantastic villain. And Effie and Haymitch aren't unpopular, but they're probably my favourites, again because of the fics mentioned above.
Leon from Merlin!! I don't actually think he's unpopular, but he's like... my fourth favourite character in the show which I know IS considered high for most people.
Sandor Clegane from ASOIAF. Not the show, just the books. His book character is phenomenal and I am so excited for GrrM to finish the goddamn series so I know what happens to him.
The Stolls and Katie Gardner from PJO cause fandom created Tratie and sucked me in at a young age.
Bellatrix Lestrange? Is she unpopular? I don't think so but she's another one I think is a fantastic villain. I'm almost more interested in her than Voldemort tbh.
That's probably it!
Thanks so much for the ask Tay, this was tons of fun! Anyone else who's interested can feel free to fill my inbox!

2021 january reads roundup
it’s a new month! and a perfect time to ✨reflect✨on the month’s reads! this january, i finished 5 books:
1. Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb
2. A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge
3. Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata
4. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie (reread)
5. Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
thoughts below the cut~
Assassin’s Apprentice:
This read was definitely a surprise for me- I love buying 80s and 90s fantasy paperbacks from the used bookstore and I usually don’t expect very much from them. It’s definitely a childhood book that’s setting up a huge fantasy series, which is why some people find it slow- I would go into it expecting a lot of focus on the inner world of the main character, and not a lot of focus on action-packed plotting. For me, it ended up being surprisingly emotional, and had profound themes of grief and loss. The character building of the two main characters, Fitz and his mentor-figure Burrich, was so, so impressive, as well as the character building for Fitz’s dead father, Chivalry, who is never onscreen yet still affects every plot beat of the book. Give this book a try if you like atmospheric, introspective, character focused fantasy.
A Skinful of Shadows
I read this book because two of my friends are big fans of the author and I don’t like to be left out of things. I did enjoy it, though! The historical setting of the 1640s English Civil War is perfectly chosen and expressed, and is married so perfectly with the themes of the book that it doesn’t seem like it could take place at any other historical moment. The supernatural element of the plot is a perfect lens for discussing questions of power, control, belief, selfhood, and the afterlife. Do you believe in Puritan ideology? Do you believe in the power of the king? Or do you just believe in your own superiority? Read this if you like atmospheric, dark fantasy, ghosts, unlikeable characters, and bears.
Convenience Store Woman
This was a different choice for me as I don’t usually stray very far out of the genre fiction world, but I’m trying to broaden my horizons. I’m also currently interested in reading translated works, so this was a good start! This book was short and sweet and absolutely dead on in its portrayal of the rigidity of society and the way that other people are hostile to people that don’t fit in to their preestablished narratives about what a person should be. Read this if you’re frustrated with the assumptions people make about you and your life based on absolutely nothing.
Ancillary Justice (reread)
This was my fourth read of Ancillary Justice. It’s my favorite sci-fi trilogy and the urge to reread comes around about once a year in my mind. (It all goes around, the planet goes around the sun). This read I was fascinated by the way the book presents choice. We all believe that we would make the right choice in any given situation, and we judge others freely based on our assumption that we would have done better in their place. But it’s not that simple, and it’s not that simple to know in the moment when your choice will make a difference, and when it won’t. The main character Breq is tormented by her past- she initially believes that as an A.I. there were turning points in which she had no choice in her actions, but she begins to realize she may have been more complicit than she originally believed. She resolves to make things right- but is it possible to know when her actions will make a difference? Which gambles will lead her closer to her goal, and which ones could end her journey, and her life? Read this book (and reread it, and reread it) if you love character-focused sci fi with complex worldbuilding, stories about spaceships with feelings, and portrayals of evil empires from within the evil empire.
Battle Royale
Continued my trend of translated fiction with this one! I watched the movie a few years ago and enjoyed it a lot, and since then have been courting this book every time I see it in the bookstore. Overall I’d say I had a lot of fun reading it, as a gory, fast-paced thriller. I did get a little tired of it by the end, and there was a lot of description of guns, baseball, and other sort of boring stuff that I hardcore skimmed. My biggest gripe with the book was the overall infantilizing treatment of female characters by the narration- how dare this game force a sweet, innocent girl to kill? How dare this game ruin a beautiful girl’s beautiful face! Mitsuko Souma’s backstory was also both out of left field in how over-the-top horrific it was and completely unnecessary. Of course, people who were abused become murderous sociopaths. Of course, a female character can’t just have one bad thing happen to her, it has to be violence on top of violence for the entirety of her miserable life until she dies.
Re: The Hunger Games, after reading this book I don’t think THG was actually copping Battle Royale at all. THG is a dystopia that’s focused on the dystopia- the corruption of the rich, the element of the media in both keeping people happy and twisting their worldview, the ways in which people fall through the cracks. Battle Royale is focused more on the inner world of the characters- it wants to know what could actually drive a child to kill someone. What level of fear, what level of danger, when does someone actually snap? The author said he was inspired by Stephen King’s The Long Walk, which tracks- The Long Walk is about the limit of a human mind and body in a similar way. In what conditions could someone decide to push their body past the limit of horror? Read Battle Royale if you have a stomach for gore and like fast paced thrillers, video game plots, and seeing innocent children get mown down by a sociopath with a machine gun.
And that’s all! See you next month? And try not get kidnapped and put on an island where you are forced to kill your classmates.

So I saw this prompt on @everlarkedalways blog asking what your hunger games story is and I thought, ok, it will be good to reflect on the past lol. Here goes.
So as most of you know I’m young, like high school young, so the books came out when I was still a toddler lol. So I actually saw the movies first, at home. My dad and I have always been big dystopian fans so he watched the movies one night and I vaguely remember sitting with him and watching thg, cf, and mj1. Mj2 hadn’t been released yet. I was intrigued but I was not at the age to read ya yet so I didn’t. I think I was visiting my grandparents in another state a year or two later and my mom bought the trilogy, the same exact copies I still have today, at a thrift store. I got through thg, cf, and half of mockingjay before I quit lol. Years go by and I hadn’t really thought about the series or movies much(I did watch mj2 though when it came out), until 8th grade. My friend who is no longer my friend bc of reasons decided he and I would read the books. We read them in less than a month(I think I finished by October) and then became obsessed with Peeta and Katniss. I bought the movie set for Christmas that year and watched them all at least 8 times in a row(no joke) without stopping over that break. Then I stumbled upon fanfiction. It honestly has changed my life. I also found tumblr and decided to create an account that had nothing to do with fandoms lol just so I could read from tumblr and ff.net(at this time I kinda hated ao3 bc I didn’t understand it lol). This year I changed my tumblr and felt compelled to write some of my own fanfic and I’m so so so happy I did. Anyway, that’s my story. I think the most important thing to come out of this is thg are the first ya/dystopian books I have ever read. Now I’m obsessed with all things ya. I think that thg is my fall back fandom meaning when I explore another fandom and become bored I come back to this series and feel relieved that it’s in my life. Also I forgot to mention but I love ao3 now. Oh also, I love all of you and am so happy to have met you through this series!❤️

So I'm after a new anime to watch (I'm on a bit of a kick at the moment). Give me your best Naruto sell
sorry i’m so late answering this. you must’ve sent it just after I fell asleep yesterday. stupid timezone differences *glares at the clock*. then I had a busy day; i got my (negative) covid-19 test results and had stuff to catch up on since i’m out of isolation
this is loaded question, honestly. so rather than give you my best naruto sell, i’m gonna give you a quick and dirty pro/con list according to what i know about your personal tastes
deploying a read more, cuz this might get long
Cons
filler episodes/arcs - naruto is freaking full of them. to be honest, i’ve never watched the anime in its entirety, mostly because of these babies. they’re... well, most are pretty bad. i’d say to read the manga - which, despite its issues, maintains a much higher level of quality - but the anime is far easier to consume - and what you asked about. (for reference, my feelings for the anime vs manga are probably similar to yours on the movies vs novels for THG)
lack of female character development - Kishimoto (writer/artist of naruto and hereto referred to as Kishi) created a ton of awesome female characters... and then gave them little to no backstory. most of the male villains (even minor ones) get more substance than the main female protagonist
the epilogue (and beyond) does wrong by most of the characters - so you know how a big portion of the hp fandom ignores the epilogue (ewe? baby!), and how tons of a:tla fans refuse to watch Korra? yeah, naruto is another epic story that falls firmly into that category. kishi had no idea what to do with his characters once they grew up; in fact, many of them make choices that fly in the face of who they are at their core
Pros
characters, characters, characters - there are so many here to love! no, really, SO MANY. one of the things i feel Kishi is actually really good at is presenting characters and making you fall in love with them. and yeah, with the girls you kinda have to read between the lines a bit. but everyone has motivations and sob stories and funny quirks. and they’re all so damn inspiring i just can’t
the world-building - the naruto universe is immersive in a similar manner to hp or FMA or a:tla. on the surface, things seem simple; it’s about a kid training to be a ninja in the hopes that one day he’ll become the best and earn the right to lead his people. but it’s so much more than that. there’s politics (between clans and villages) and wars. there are myths and legends and magic (just because they call it ninjutsu doesn’t make it any less magical). there’s fate and destiny and relationships that fall somewhere between. there’s a reason it’s my favorite fic-writing sandbox
the story - so i’m not gonna bullshit you. naruto is far from perfect from a writing standpoint. but. BUT. when Kishi gets a storyline right, it’s a freaking thing of brilliance. there’s humor and heartbreak. love and hope. ACTION (yes it needs to be in all caps). it’s got one of the most savage revenge arcs i ever seen (yes, i’m looking at you, Shikamaru). there are intriguing villains - some who get redemptions, and some who are allowed to just be plain, ole evil - and imperfect heroes. there’s adventure and missions, some silly, some deadly. and at its core, it’s a tale of unconditional love and friendship. (which is probably why, no matter what other fandoms i drift to, i always come back)
tl;dr: naruto’s characters, world-building, and (sometimes) brilliant storylines make it worth the watch despite its narrative flaws

THG and Harry Potter for the fandom ask? :)
THG:
Favorite character: Peeta. I have a thing for soft hearted male characters in fiction lol. Peeta also sort of reminds me of a male version of Sansa (who I also clearly love). He can be very manipulative and uses how well he's able to make people like him to his advantage. He uses his wit instead of fighting skills.
Least Favorite character: I can't really think of any characters I hate outside of obvious ones like President Snow. I will say that I'm not a big fan of Effie. Book! Effie at least.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Peeta/Katniss, Finnick/Annie, Katniss/Johanna. And that's it.
Character I find most attractive: Idk. Katniss is a kid for most of the series and there aren't a lot of prominent female characters. Maybe Johanna?
Character I would marry: None
Character I would be best friends with: Peeta
a random thought: I kind of miss these books. One of these days I should try to do a re-read.
An unpopular opinion: I'm sure I have some but I'm coming up blank at the moment lol. Maybe that I don't care about Effie and think Haymitch/Effie is ooc af? Effie was way more likable in the movies with the way Elizabeth Banks portrayed her, but as a book supremacist, I'm mainly stuck on her book characterization. Who was a pretty minor and stagnant character.
My Canon OTP: Everlark. My angsty bbies.
My Non-canon OTP: Katniss/Johanna
Most Badass Character: Katniss. I admire how strong and resourceful she is.
Most Epic Villain: None
Pairing I am not a fan of: Haymitch/Effie. I don't hate it but....meh lol. It comes off purely as fanficy for me.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I honestly hated what Suzanne Collins did to Peeta in Mockingjay. I was not a fan of the hijacked! Peeta plot at all. I'm glad that he took steps to try to get past it at the very end but the fact that he wasn't himself for most of the last book of the trilogy will always be a sour point for me.
Favourite Friendship: Katniss/Cinna :(
Character I most identify with: Katniss because I'm also anti social and bad at making friends.
Character I wish I could be: I wish I could have Peeta's charisma and way with words lol
Harry Potter:
Favorite character: Harry James Potter himself. He was kind, sarcastic, and brave. He made a very good protagonist for the series imo.
Least Favorite character: I don't hate him but I think Draco is extremely overrated as a character. (And this is of course excluding obvious big bads like Voldemort and Umbridge).
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Ron/Hermione, Luna/Ginny, Harry/Luna, Remus/Sirius, Scorpio/Albus if we're counting Cursed Child
Character I find most attractive: None
Character I would marry: Tonks
Character I would be best friends with: Harry. I think we'd get along pretty well.
a random thought: The HP fandom is another fandom that fights about the same things over and over again. I'm so tired of Snape discourse.
An unpopular opinion: Dumbledore isn't evil. He did a ton of questionable things and I could agree that he's kind of morally grey but people act like he's a Big Bad villain and I just....read the books please lol
My Canon OTP: Romione my kids
My Non-canon OTP: Luna/Ginny they could have been so soft
Most Badass Character: Mcgonagall
Most Epic Villain: None. When I was a kid, I had some sort of weird obsession with Bellatrix. (I went as her for Halloween once lol). But nowadays I think the HP villains are mostly pretty one dimensional except for Snape. (Who could be argued wasn't really a villain.)
Pairing I am not a fan of: Harry/Ginny. I feel like I COULD have liked it but it was just developed so badly. Harry showed zero signs of being into Ginny for five books and then suddenly in HBP his "inner self" is growling at catching her with Dean. (That was so cringy lol)
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I can't really think of any examples from the books. But the movies did Ron so dirty and I'm still mad about it lol. I do think the books really missed the mark by making Harry a wizard cop in the future though. He should have been the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. Using his experiences to help kids learn to defend themselves? I feel like that would have been so healing and rewarding for him.
Favourite Friendship: The Golden Trio aka Harry, Ron, and Hermione
Character I most identify with: Neville. Hopefully one day I can have his growth lol
Character I wish I could be: Ginny. I'd love to have her confidence.
Thanks! :)

Everlark Author Tag
@iliveilaughiloveiread and @awkwardeverlark both tagged me in this a bit ago and I’m just now getting to it, I’m so sorry for the delay!
1.     What inspired you to start writing Everlark fanfiction?
Hahaha.  The first fanfiction I ever wrote (before kids) was for Star Trek, back when I was in college.  My boyfriend at the time (now husband) and I went on a watching binge of all five Star Trek shows and I got really into it for awhile.  Then my girls started arriving and I barely had time to read, let alone come up with possible story ideas.  I still managed to read the HG books a few times, and then once my hubby brought home the 4-disc blu-ray set of the movies it was like my mind just exploded with ideas.  I started devouring HG fanfiction, and following more blogs on Tumblr, and... that, as they say, was that.  🤓. I’m a big fan of the “what if” question, so I thought of a few ideas and just ran with them.
2.     How did you choose your handle name (tumblr, ao3, ff)?
Well, it fits me pretty well.  😉. I’m geeky, I love movies (and books), and I’m a mom.  geekymoviemom.
3.     Any other THG pairings you ship?
Definitely Finnick/ Annie.  I adore Finnick and I still haven’t been able to kill him off in any of my stories because of it.  I also have shipped Peeta’s middle brother with Madge and Gale/ Madge.  I also like Delly/ Thom.
4.      Favorite character to write?
Definitely Peeta.  I find Katniss really hard to like sometimes, and so it’s hard for me to think I’m getting her voice correct when I write in her POV.  I’ve done it, and hopefully I’ve done it well, but she’s definitely a challenge.
5.     Weird habits while writing?
I like to have quiet when I’m writing, which isn’t easy with a houseful of homeschooled girls!  I do most of my writing when they’re on their afternoon “quiet time.”  I can edit with noise or music going, but I need quiet to actually write.
6.     Any advice for other Everlark writers?
Don’t be afraid!  The Everlark fandom is sooo kind and accepting, especially of new writers!  I can’t think of another fandom that just welcomes people as easily.  Also, be gentle with yourself!  It’s so easy to be your own worst critic, but that often doesn’t get you anywhere except frustrated.
Also, don’t be afraid to repeat tropes!  Think your new idea has already been done?  Do it anyway!  People will still love it!  ♥️
7. Favorite thing about our fandom?
My absolute favourite thing is the wide range of ages and experiences in our fandom.  It’s so refreshing that these books that were aimed at a younger audience can be enjoyed (and picked apart and discussed over and over and over...) by people of all ages.  I love it!
Tagging: @aihodineverlark, @thelettersfromnoone, @mtk4fun, @norbertsmom, and anyone else who’d like to play!  ♥️
Copy and paste or reblog. Tag it with #everlarkauthor

What do you think about the movies? I remember watching THG when I was like 17, had never read the books, and there were some things that did not make sense to me, like the whole bread sequence, which is so important, but when I first watched it I thought Peeta had been kinda rude for throwing it into the mud lol ok maybe I wasn't paying too much attn but I feel like there were some truly heartfelt moments the movies failed to convey. Maybe a voice over during some scenes would've been nice.
Yeah. I agree. I think that The Hunger Games movie definitely lacked in moments that would have made it more extraordinary as a movie and also as a representation of the books. The stuff they took out or underplayed like the Everlark story, Peeta losing his leg and the HUNGER and depravity they feel as a whole is completely lost or weak. It didn’t set it up as well as it could have.
I do think they movies are still good, even the first one, but it hurts that it’s so lacking. I wasn’t an obsessed THG fan when I first watched the movie and I was excited for Everlark in general and I was seriously shocked at how much they almost dismissed that whole part of the story.
Catching Fire is the gem. Mockingjay One and Two are a thing of its own. I don’t love reading that book anyways, but watching the movies is definitely not my favorite. Mostly for hijacked!Peeta. It JUST HURTS. But I’m okay with the last two. I’m not anti.
My ONE BIG FRUSTRATION is Peeta’s face when they’re in bed together. GAH. Could they not have been happy, content, peaceful when they finally say that to one another. JUST GIMME. I need a redo. :D

I will admit that pr hunting usually leads to chaos and like you said we don't really know but the headache I get from it is better that the queasy feeling I get thinking that Jen actually dated Darren. lol so yes I'm doing it to make myself feel better but they were too fishy for me to believe any of it when I stepped back and looked at the big picture. Closh is a weird one tho. Like there's *nothing* there but shadiness from their shared manager and her team but it's STILL HAPPENING?!?!
PFFF LMAO WOW. when ur so against a ship that ur like u know what it’s better if it’s fake tbh. IT BE LIKE THAT SOMETIMES LOL.
I think I did the exact same thing with Joult and Closh for a bit there though, not going to lie. Like, I didn’t want to accept the fact that the halves of my OTP were interested in anyone else but each other. So I was like WELP TIME TO BE LIKE-
Tumblr media
And then when Claw happened I was still kind of in the same mindset tbh. Like I literally wrote that whole thing into TWAAL in order To Cope TM lmao. Some people???? write off their NOTPS????? into angst?????? to cope???????
But then when she got together with Darren, I think I kind of realized at that point that A. I had been turning to PR stunting and what not to make up for the fact that I didn’t like the ship(s), and B. She seemed to be developing a type of sorts that made her relationships seem all the more genuine. WEIRD, CERTAINLY, BUT MORE GENUINE LOL.
Soooo yeah. I’ve turned to simply throwing shade/voicing my distaste for things as opposed to trying to dissect their actions lmao. It’s more of like, “Yes I accept that these things are happening….bUT THAT DOESN’T NECESSARILY MEAN I’M HAPPY ABOUT IT.”
And Closh sjdkjsdks hooo boy. I was right up there with everyone thinking they were just a “we got together because of this movie” type of couple. But then they stuck together year after year after year, certainly WELL after the movie they were supposedly stunting for too lmao.
I also came to realize that like…Josh stunting a relationship REALLY doesn’t make any sense when you think about it. ESPECIALLY with his current actions/low profile lmao. Like, if high amounts of stunting does indeed happen, it makes more sense for Jen. Because she’s a freaking A++++++++ Lister who seems to appear in tabloids every time she exhales a certain type of way. So thinking there’s some kind of something being pushed in her relationships makes a bit more sense, since she’s quite a catch in the media’s eye.
Josh however, has always been laying low. THG pushed him up for a while there, but now he’s definitely back to having a very low profile. And Paradise Lost wasn’t even that big of a movie to begin with. Like it was a limited release, barely talked about movie. I can see the argument of them being used to bring it attention but like…WHY LOL. IT JUST DOESN’T ENTIRELY ADD UP.
And, like you/we’ve said, they’ve been a thing for a looooong time now. I’ve seen people argue that she’s using him and using his fame and what not. But like, for FIVE years? And he’s been okay with that for FIVE years if that’s the case? And with the current amount of projects he’s involved with…hate to say it, but wHAT FAME LOL. HE’S BARELY IN THE INDUSTRY ANYMORE TBH KJDKSJDS, WHICH UPSETS ME ACTUALLY BECAUSE IT’S LIKE GET YOUR TALENTED ASS BACK OUT THERE.
Sooooo yeah. Also by the way, I’m not trying to attack anyone who argues that they are indeed a PR-driven relationship. Or thinks the opposite of everything I just said lol. I’m just expressing my own opinions/thoughts towards the situation because it’s just…At this point it’s almost too weird to actually BE a PR-driven relationship imo lmao.
I’m not a fan of them. I’ve never been a fan of them. But at this point after cooling my biased/NOTP petty jets lmao, I’ve kind of “accepted” them more or less. It’s like I see them, I kind of grumble a bit like “you ain’t joshifer bitch.” But then I just kind of let them pass me by.

wait, re your latest answer, what’s the deal with the hunger games? i tried looking through your tags but im on mobile and nothing showed up, so i hope im not bothering you x
It’s no bother at all! I don’t have any huge beef with THG. I actually like the trilogy a lot. In my last answer I was just referring to the fact that in general a lot of people think it’s overrated and a lot of others think it’s the best thing that happened to YA dystopia. The biggest controversies around it were probably the blatant Battle Royale similarities it possesses, plus the love triangle. A lot of people think it was really forced, and I can see that.
It rubs me the wrong way how Gale kinda expected Katniss to drop Peeta and run away with him while she was trying to survive Snow’s machinations and a civil war. I’ve read articles on how Peeta was a Nice Guy^TM but it’s been too long for me to say whether I agree or not. I just really love that for once the non-toxically masculine love interest ended up with the girl, and Everlark work well as foils.
TBH I have way more of an issue with the films. I enjoyed them and thought they were pretty faithful to the books compared to other YA adaptational disasters, but some big things and a lot of little things added up. They whitewashed literally all of District 12, took away Peeta’s disability, and overall contradicted the themes of the books with the casting, costumes/makeup, and marketing. “Olive skin” is used to describe Katniss and a lot of D12 people in the books, which can arguably be interpreted as POC or white. But a lot of fans identified with Katniss as a WOC before the movies, myself included, and the producers squandered an opportunity to represent a WOC in one of the biggest woman-targeted franchises of the past decade. Plus J/Law is a whole mess, just look up her anti tag and I’m sure you’ll find all the tea there. They took out Peeta’s disability (his leg was amputated and replaced with a synthetic in the book) for NO REASON even though they had plenty of screen time to add his struggles from the books because they squeezed 2 movies out of the Mockingjay plot. They also really downplayed the voyeuristic and exploitative nature of the Capitol, when that was one of the most disturbing parts of the books. They unnecessarily edited the lyrics to the Hanging Tree (necklace of rope -> necklace of hope). They downplayed Haymitch’s alcoholism…. I could go on.
Hope that answers your question!

I saw a post about The Hunger Games movies earlier that I pretty much agreed with in terms of their hyper-representation of white people, their lack of attention to the culturally resonant implications of systemic and racist violence, and so on. Basically, it was praising the books and juxtaposing them with the movies as being vastly inferior products because they shaved off all the rough edges to create a much less complex narrative that focused more on the romantic relationship than the societal implications. And all that is well and good. I am waiting for my good Hunger Games Netflix or Hulu series well into  old age. However, I just wanted to say something from my personal experience of The Hunger Games fandom to sort of counter this particular post politely without tacking onto someone else’s viewpoint in a rude way, which is why I’m making my own post.
I got into The Hunger Games back in very late 2011 because I had learned that Jennifer Lawrence was going to be in it. This was on the coattails of my being hyper-obsessed with X-Men: First Class, and this had been my first exposure to Jennifer Lawrence. My first exposure to the name of The Hunger Games series, on the other hand, were meme text posts that were going around when I first joined tumblr in 2011 that were joking about not knowing what “The Hunger Games” were or not having read them. Anyway, basically what happened was that I learned that Jennifer Lawrence was going to be in The Hunger Games movie, and I had enjoyed her in XMFC, and at the time I had a relationship with fandom where I might actually choose to follow and actor or actress’s body of work much more easily than I would now (in fact this is because of THG fandom).
Anyway, I picked up the book and read the back of it and became very excited about the fact that The Hunger Games was set in Appalachia. This was really exciting to me, and because of my own background in Appalachia I always read Katniss as Melungeon. There was a time, early in my experience in that fandom, when I would have died on that hill. Then I realized how sorely underrepresented indigenous peoples are, so while my brain still defaults to Melungeon, I am 100% in support of indigenous Katniss, too. I’m just sharing this for full disclosure, especially if anyone goes back in my THG tags which haven’t been active in a long while even though I still like the story itself in concept. Back to original point, I was excited about a heroine coming from my part of the world in a post-apcoalyptic setting because I tend to think of the south, particularly my part of it, as being kind of erased in fiction and so on.
By the time it became 2012, I had read the first book and was disappointingly convinced that Jennifer Lawrence was a poor casting choice for Katniss. I didn’t really have anyone better in mind off the top of my head, but cornfed, big-boned Jennifer Lawrence was more Glimmer than Katniss. However, I was still willing to watch the movie because i was so excited to have a movie of this thing I had come to love so much, and at the time the only things I knew about Jennifer Lawrence were things about how skilled she was for someone who was within a few months of my age. I was also excited about Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, which is still one of the only casting choices I’m happy with in retrospect.
The point of this post, however, is actually a little word of caution against giving the books too much credit because of their author Suzanne Collins. Now, this is not to say that she did not craft a story that is very meaningful to some people and that perhaps she did not execute her intent with more finesse in certain areas than she was consciously aware of. That happens sometimes, even incidentally. She might have even been aware of her intent and finesse while she was writing the books. That does not account for what happened during the casting and production of the first Hunger Games film, though.
I gobbled up anything I could get my hands on that was about the movie production, the casting, the cast itself, the process behind bringing these books to life. I still have several of the Scholastic tie-in books that I compulsively bought. I bought all the Capitol-based merch being fully aware of how creepy it was. I had a Hunger Games lanyard for years. I was so, so excited about everything. And as I mentioned, the downfall of The Hunger Games behind the scenes stuff and cast and so on in terms of my adoring-respect is one of the main reasons that I don’t actually follow the celebrity behind media I like for the most part now.
While I was doing this, I distinctly remember reading a magazine while walking through Walmart with my mother on a break from college. I cannot remember specifically what the title was except I think it was sort of a special publication, Hunger Games-specific magazine. I can’t quote it directly for you anymore. However, I want you all to be aware that Suzanne Collins actually got a lot more say in casting The Hunger Games movies than most book authors ever get.
In most cases, book authors sell the film rights to their books, and then they are as helpless and waiting with bated breath as the readers/fans of their books are. However, Gary Ross was kind of known as an odd, hands-on director. There are aspects of the unpolished aesthetic of the first film, particularly in District 12, that are far more fitting from the Asheville sets than from the Atlanta ones of the later films, and this is probably greatly owing to Ross’s ~directorial vision~. One of the main reasons they switched directors pretty much immediately after the first film’s success was because Ross wanted to work on a much longer time frame to get the other three movies “right” than the studio wanted to grant him on the coattails of commercial success and 20-something, aging actors playing teenagers.
Ross and Collins were both directly involved in helping with the casting direction. I remember very clearly reading that Collins said that she would have hired Josh Hutcherson to play Peeta had he been a purple dragon with six-foot wings or some description of this nature. Basically, she was saying that his “inner spirit” and understanding of the character was right to the point that it did not matter if he looked like Peeta, let alone even human, to play the role. Now, this might be a nice enough thing to say about Josh Hutcherson when there is absolutely no reason to believe that Peeta can’t be a white, blond boy. However, I think that it is really telling about Collins’s overall approach and attitude toward her allowed input on the casting of the films.
I am a white person. I have never been a published author, a director, or a casting director. Saying that, I think that the casting of The Hunger Games shows a very, very white attitude toward “color blindness” and mixed race people of color in particular. I just kind of want to bullet point a couple of things that I infer kind of must have gone on in Collins’ mind / that go on in some white authors’/creators’ minds unless they examine their own privilege and attitudes about race:
The Hunger Games books literally never once use a word that indicates a current, modern race or ethnic identification.
However, there does seem to be a fair amount of racial segregation between the districts with one or two ethnic or racial groups being typical of each one rather than a lot of diversity.
It was fanon in the pre-movie book fandom that Wiress and Beetee were probably of Southeast Asian appearance because Katniss observes that they have “ashen skin and black hair.” This itself might have been symptomatic of a racism or stereotyping either on the part of the fandom or the text because Beetee and Wiress are from the “technology district” (District 3). I wonder what stereotype that could be, hm. In the films, they are portrayed by a white woman and a black man respectively.
Cinna does not have any particular descriptions about his skin color that I recall. They cast Lenny Kravtiz and I liked this casting choice. However, if you go back and watch The Hunger Games films, you might notice that there is a conspicuous lack of any diversity beyond having white actors and black actors. It was good that they did cast black actors in a few notable roles, I have no doubt, but in my gut I always got this sense that it was a kind of “look at us, we’re being diverse!” rather than an actual attempt to reflect the diversity that was clearly suggested in the text.
Again, Collins said she would have hired Hutcherson had he been a purple dragon.
Collins also said that she had absolutely 0 doubts about Lawrence’s casting as Katniss. I believe that I did once read someone asking her about Katniss’s appearance being described as significantly different from Lawrence, and as I recall, Collins suggested that perhaps there simply were no actresses who looked the way she imagined Katniss to look while the casting call literally only called for white women.
Collins also said in an interview once that she based The Hunger Games concept on her emotional dissonance flipping between channels and finding things like American Idol on while there was coverage of the Iraq War on another station. I’m not saying it’s unfair to give her some credit for having compassion for the child survivors in war-torn areas. However, I might also suggest that anything she has said since about 2011-2012 about it might be kind of her building on a previous thought that she did not necessarily have before other people prompted her thinking. At the time, though, she was saying that it was very much a kind of not-very-thoroughly-researched reaction to popular culture and current events. Now, if she’s grown about it, that’s great, but I’m just saying in terms of this discussion of the movie vs. film quality and diversity thing.
From my understanding, Collins had little to do with the production of the films after the first, but Ross did call on her opinion and input frequently during all stages of the production of the first film.
All of this is getting around to me saying that I think there is a thing that some white people do to imagine a post-racial utopia (or even dystopia, in this case) where racial descriptions and ethnic divides have fallen by the wayside. It’s sort of horrifying, but The Hunger Games to me almost presents a scenario in which the spirit of it might be read to suggest that ethnic identity no longer really exists having been supplanted by District identity. In District 12, there are those who live in the Seam and those who are a part of the “small merchant class.” There are physical descriptions but never identifying words that we recognize. (Collins, as a note, played with this a lot; there was actually a glaring inconsistency where Katniss didn’t know what a monkey was called in one of the later books when she did in the first one, or something.)
Collins, in her public statements around the time she was having an influence on the direction and shape of the films-of-her-books, seemed to suggest that the people who lived in the Seam were the result of racial mixing of some form or another. She also seemed to suggest that they would not be identifiable by any term that we currently have. The Seam residents were imagined as the ultimate, isolated conclusion to a “melting pot” in which varied ethnic identification washed away which is one of the very specific reasons that I originally identified Katniss as a Melungeon in my personal reading. However, to Collins, it seems as if she imagines these post-ethnic people as something mythical and futuristic, like a future evolution of human beings or a fantasy creature like an elf (or a purple dragon!). Collins’s personal responses always read, to me, as being completely oblivious to the very idea that she had extrapolated that maybe someone like Katniss actually did exist in the very area which District 12 was supposedly based on to this very day and that this was not a once-and-future kind of reality that no longer existed in present-day America.
Tl;dr I really like The Hunger Games, and I hope I’m not stepping way out of my lane to talk about this as a white reader. However, I wanted to talk again after all this time about how yes, the movies erase a lot of the things that make the books meaningful (political and social implications, representation of diversity and disability and so on), but suggesting that the books innately present something a lot better and richer has a little to do with Collins. On the other hand, I suggest that there is a little bit of death of the author involved in your wonderful readings of this text because Collins herself seems to have directly refuted some of the nice things you might have to say about authorial intent in terms of diversity and representation.

Thanks sooo much @oop-theregoesgravity !!
1. why this URL honestly? I have no idea, at the time it was random but now I love it bc i’m a major maladaptive daydreamer
2. any side blogs? yesshhh, only for private stuff so I keep it to myself 😳
3. how long have you been on tumblr? long time, I started when THG was promoting the first movie
4. have you ever had a fight with another blog? lololol yess, long time ago. It was with someone who was pro snape and they were trashing james and i was havin none of it, it got heated fastttt 😂
5. why did you start your blog in the first place? so I had a place to totally nerd out and not have to worry about people irl knowing (i was an angsty teen, now idgaf)
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp? I like pics of myself but this one hides my face a bit, I saw someone else w a similar idea and loved it
7. why did you choose your header? I’m all about aesthetic and it went w the profile pic, also I love space ✨
8. what’s your most liked post? me geeking out over how perfect it would be if the SaB tv show includes the line of Kaz calling Jesper Jordie (i need it)
9. how many mutuals do you have? no idea, but its grown since I read TOG/ACOTAR which is amazing! I also have some who have been w me through all my fandom changes/growth and I love them sm 💕
10. how many followers do you have? 1,183 (idk how honestly)
11. how many people are you following? 684

14. do you have a queue tag? nah, couldn’t figure it out 😂
15. how do you feel about the “you need to reblog” posts? depends, if it’s human rights related then yea I think everyone should reblog bc it’s good to spread the info. if that’s all you can do, it’s definitely something to help more people get informed. if it’s art/fanfic related, ehhhh, not a big fan. I’m all for supporting artists bc fandoms would literally be no where without them and life would be hell. but it’s still my blog, it’s who I am so I have to vibe/love the art or fanfic in order to reblog it, so that I can go back and look at it. I don’t reblog stuff for anyone else, just for me, but I still work really hard to be supportive and spread people’s works, especially for smaller fandoms/smaller blogs (I hope that all didn’t make sound like an asshole) also for fics I prefer reblogging masterlists rather than multi-chapters, it’s an easier index and less cluttered (i’m very organized lol) 🥰
16. do you like tag games? LOVE THEM!! and it’s so nice bc now I have a lot of mutuals who love them too
17. do you like ask games? YES but I never get inboxes so I normally just don’t reblog them. but I get it, I don’t post anything on here created by me so asks are less common

4. do you have a queue tag? yes! #by queue i am forever undone
5. why did you start your blog in the first place? i’d just finished reading six of crows and needed a place to scream/laugh/cry about it with others who’d read it. at the time, i didn’t have any other social media, so i turned to tumblr lmao.

The Interviewee
Request: hey you ^~^ i wanna say you're one of my favorite writers 😹💜 i think i have already read everything hahah can you do one like, reader is interviewed by dan (like he did with the thg cast) and she says that she knows him and phil, but then after that, later she sees dan in the hotel and go talk to him and things just start working out between them...
Requested by: anonymous.
A/N: Love the idea, super cute!
Pairing: Dan x Reader
Warnings: none.
Tumblr media
“Hello, it’s nice to meet you, Y/N. How are you?”
You smiled brightly at the two before you. Fixing your dress, you scooted to become more comfortable and gripped the microphone with practiced ease. “I’m well, thank you. Thank you for having me.” You thanked the two boys before you, a warm, welcoming presence evident in your smile.
“Thank you for coming. I am Phil and this is Dan.” The black-haired one greeted, reaching out to shake your head. Politely, you leaned forward shaking ones and then the others hand. You laughed lightly, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear; “yes, Daniel Howell and AmazingPhil, i’m big fans of the both of you.” You complimented.
The brown haired one, Dan, smiled brightly but albeit shocked. “You watch our youtube channels?”
“Yes, it’s why I came for the interview.” You explained, sending a dazzling smile his way. You couldn’t help but giggle slightly on the inside when you saw his cheeks light up with ever so slight blush. “Well, it’s a pleasure. We are also fans of you, but we are here for the fans to hear about your new movie, M/T.”
“What can fans expect from this new feature film?” Dan composed himself, reading off the card and asking the questions precisely written on the card before him.
“Fans can expect a thrilling, horror-flick of a girl and her partner trying to discover the secrets hidden well deep in the mental hospital.” You smiled, explaining the filmed you been working ages on. You were very excited for your new film to come out, as you thought it had a lot of potential and you were proud of it.
“Wonderful!” Phil smiled. You let your eyes wander to Dan, catching the way he carefully watched you. Sending him a little wink, you turned back to Phil for another question.
Walking through the lobby halls, you organized yourself. After a tiring but exciting day of interviews you were ready to crash on your bed. Though, that was the plan, before you caught sight of Dan, the one who’d interviewed you earlier and who you’d had a major crush on for months on end. Smiling, you decided to walk up to him.
“Hey Dan, didn’t know you’d be here.” He spun, shocked to hear your voice. You smiled brightly up at him. “Y/N?” He questioned, clearly shocked. You waved, a sheepish smile upon your lips. “That’s me.”
“I-I…”
“Thank you for the interview by the way.” You interrupted him, shaking your head with a smirk. He flushed, embarrassed before clearing his throat. “Thank you for coming.”
“Well, I should get going.” You reached out your hand, he hesitantly, shocked, reached out and grasped your lithe hand. His brows furrowing when he felt you slide a piece of paper in his hand and quickly let go, you smiled before waving and walking away. Staring down, he read the number before him and couldn’t help but chuckle quietly when he saw your little doodle of a smiley face. He looked up, watching after your back before cheering.

Note
ok, so the writer as memes. I want all the answers. ALL. OF. THEM.
Here you go, @everlarkingjoshifer! Thanks for the ask, I loved doing this!
I answered some of the questions in previous asks so, to simplify, I added the links here.
1. Favorite place to write.

2. Favorite part of writing. Plotting and outlining. I just let my mind wander, coming up with scenarios and possibilities.

3. Least favorite part of writing. Second guessing the choices I make, followed by all those pesky questions that sometimes creep into my mind.
4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most. THG trilogy, obviously, that’s the universe that got me into fan fiction in the first place. But Graham Greene has also had a great impact on my writing.

6. Favorite character you ever created.
I haven’t really created many original characters, but there’s this girl from D1 who will make an appearance in WIWTTW. I like her a lot. I might even write an outtake from her POV.
7. Favorite author.

8. Favorite trope to write.

9. Least favorite trope to write.
10. Pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about. I’d love to write something with Mary Hoffman. I love her “Stravaganza” books. It would be awesome to work on something like that. In the fan fiction world, I’d love to do something with @notanislander. Yes, Carrie, you! I think we’d have a great time figuring out a story. Probably something about Everlark not getting together right away ;)
11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.
A. Have an idea (usually these come when I’m watching/reading something that inspires me, or while I’m in the shower.
B. Write down the basics.
C. Fill in the gaps in the plot (sometimes I even include bits of dialogue into this step)
D. Divide de plot into segments (chapters). E. Write, aka develop each one of the points in the outline.

12. How do you deal with self-doubts? Depends on how much of the story I have. Sometimes I ask someone to read my stuff and comment. But mostly I just clench my jaw and hit the “post” button.

13. How do you deal with writers block? Sometimes I go back to reread stuff I’ve written, or I go over the plots I have stored to see if something catches my eye. I also ask for prompts from other blogs or participate in writing challenges. @promptsinpanem, @everlarkficexchange, and  @everlarkbirthdaydrabbles have all been great for me, having an idea and a due date pushes me to get my act together.

14. What’s the most research you ever put into a book? I haven’t done a lot of research yet. But I always try to check small facts here and there.

15. Where does your inspiration come from? Most of my inspiration comes from THG trilogy. Everything I’ve posted so far is fan fiction and most of it is either canon compliant or in Panem. So that entire universe has proven to be a great source of inspiration for me.

16. Where do you take your motivation from? Have you ever reread something you wrote and wondered where those words or ideas came from? I’m constantly surprised by some of the passages I’ve written and I’m curious to see what else I can come up with. That curiosity is what drives me to keep on writing. And, on the days when that isn’t enough, the comments and reviews from my readers also stop me from giving up.

17. On average, how much writing do you get done in a day?

18. What’s your revision or rewriting process like? Slow. Basically I read and reread what I have. This is where most of my insecurities creep up on me. Sometimes I’ll change a single sentence many times, only to discover that the best version was the first one.

19. First line of a WIP you’re working on.
Gale Hawthorne couldn’t take his eyes off of her. Her blond hair, loosely tied in a messy bun at her nape, shone like spun gold under the relentless summer sun.” (Strawberry Swing my submission to this year’s @mores2sl collection)
20. Post a snippet of a WIP you’re working on.

21. Post the last sentence you wrote in one of your WIP’s.

“It looks great. The ground floor looks like one of the houses from the old merchant quarter.” Looking out into the street, Haymitch added, “I hope you’re prepared for a big shock, a lot has changed since you left.” (Why I Went to the Woods)
22. How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied and a project is ultimately done for you?
Depends. Usually, my first draft is little more than a simple outline. Sometimes my second draft fells complete but, most times, it takes three drafts to add all the details and points that I want into a story.
23. Single or multi POV, and why? I like multi POVs because they give you allow a deeper understanding of what’s happening in the story. I like exploring the different sides of every story.

24. Poetry or prose, and why? Prose. My brain simply doesn’t compute poetry.

25. Linear or non-linear, and why?
26. Standalone or series, and why?
27. Do you share rough drafts or do you wait until it’s all polished? Sometimes I share rough drafts but I try to polish as much as possible before showing my drafts to anyone.
28. And who do you share them with? I have a handful of betas I rely on from time to time.
@burkygirl, @xerxia31, @thegirlfromoverthepond, @everlarkingjoshifer, @titaniasfics, @pinksnailsaver, and @randomnoteforfuturereference have all come to my aid at one point or another.
29. Who do you write for? Me!

30. Favorite line you’ve ever written.
Wow, that’s a difficult question! This is the first one that came to mind:
Anyone watching would have noticed how they mirrored each other, flustered and humming with nervous energy. But no one was watching, and they were so consumed with each other’s presence they failed to notice the reciprocity in each other’s gaze. (One Victor CH9)
31. Hardest character to write. Gale Hawthorne.
Maybe it’s because I’m nothing like him, or because Gale’s Window was my very fist fic. But I’ve always had a hard time channeling him.
32. Easiest character to write.
It depends on the day and the story. For the most part, I enjoy writing Peeta. He’s usually easier than Katniss. And I absolutely loved writing Haymitch! Can’t wait to do it again.
33. Do you listen to music when you’re writing? Not if I’m alone. Sometimes I write during my commute, or while the hubs is watching TV, so I use music to block out the noise.

34. Handwritten notes or typed notes? Typed. Always.

35. Tell some backstory details about one of your characters in your story Capitol Life. Both Katniss and Peeta are recruited by Haymitch to become spies for the rebels.
Peeta has to fake his death in order to escape District 12.
36. A spoiler for story Why I Went Back to the Woods. Peeta and Katniss will run into each other in the woods.

37. Most inspirational quote you’ve ever read or heard that’s still important to you. Here are two:
Procrastination is the thief of time. Charles Dickens. It’s simple, but it reminds me of what I’m losing when I just let time slip by.
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde. A beautiful reminder that we have to look beyond what’s there and strive for something better.

38. Have you shared your outline of your story One Victor with someone? If so, what did they think of it? Yes, I have. They thought it was good but suggested a few changes for the ending. I haven’t reached that part yet, but I’ll probably follow the advise they gave me.

39. Do you base your characters of real people or not? If so, tell us about one.
I always try to keep my characters as close to canon as possible, but my version of Peeta in Weekend Getaway is heavily inspired by someone I met when I was a teenager.
40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why? As a reader I love both. As a writer… Fanfiction, at least for now. Who knows what the future holds.

41. How many stories do you work on at one time? Honestly, I can’t really focus on more than one story at a time. That’s why my WIPs progress so slowly. If I get distracted by a new project I put everything else on hold while I finish the new thing.

42. How do you figure out your characters looks, personality, etc. The characters I’ve created so far exist within THG universe, so I’ve based my descriptions on information from the books.

43. Are you an avid reader? YES!

44. Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten. “Describe what the character is feeling as if you want the reader to feel the same thing.“

45. Worst piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten. An anonymous comment from someone who clearly didn’t even finish reading the chapter and who had issues with the relationship portrayed in the fic in question. The truth is that I shared the reviewer’s POV. If they had finished reading, they would have seen that the characters were discussing those exact issues.
The way it was the review was angry and useless.
46. What would your story One Victor look like as a tv show or movie? Here and Here are two inspiration boards for it.
47. Do you start with characters or plot when working on a new story? Since I always use the same characters… plot.

48. Favorite genre to write in. Romance, humor, suspense.
49. What do you find the hardest to write in a story, the beginning, the middle or the end? The middle. The beginning is always exciting and the end feels like you’ve accomplished something. But the middle is no man’s land.

50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had. Honestly…. I’m drawing a blank…

51. Describe the aesthetic of your story Capitol Life in 5 sentences or words.
Let’s see… cold, dreary, desolate, opulent, soft. I know it sounds a bit contradictory, but the story is divided into two sections. It’s probably easier to check out my inspiration board for it.
52. How did writing change you? It’s made me happier. It’s allowed me to get in touch with myself. I get to explore my thoughts and my imagination in a way I didn’t before. It’s liberating.

53. What does writing mean to you? It’s a challenge. The challenge of finding the right words to tell a good story. I don’t always succeed, but I really enjoy trying.

54. Any writing advice you want to share? Write to find peace, to find freedom, to fill your life with fantasy and adventure, with romance. Write to make yourself smile.
