The Struggle of Loving You - Chapter 8

Chapter Selection

I laid awake last night, the pain from my ankle was worse than I thought. I had limped my way over to the fridge to get an ice pack. "Ok- I wasn't going to mention it but why was Hotch with you yesterday and why was he giving you a piggyback ride."

My heart jumped, I flinched and set my hands on the counter. "First, fuck you for scaring me. Second while I was running yesterday I fell in... a hole and I hurt my ankle. Hotch was there because he was also running."

Now that I heard it out loud it sounds like a made up story, like I was trying to cover something up. Chloe thought the same thing as she clicked her tongue and sat on the couch, "Yeah okay." Rolling my eyes I went... more like hobbled back into my room and tried to get ready for class.

I didn't have the energy to change so I just put a hoodie to go with my pajama pants. Class was in an hour and given my physical state I needed to take advantage of that time. "I'm leaving now you coming or not", Chloe turned her head to me as I walked into the living room. "No I'm not feeling good today", I internally shrugged. "Okay."

I grabbed my car keys and slowly made my way out of the apartment and down the stairs. I held onto the railing hoping I wouldn't fall down. When I got to the last stair I took my time going across the lot into the car. I was happy that it was my left ankle that was injured and not my right; I could still drive.

I drove to the campus, getting there half an hour left before class. I had stopped on my way to get some coffee, deciding to get Hotch a coffee too as a thank you for yesterday.

I pulled up and carefully got the coffees out of the car before standing up. I was making my way to the hall little by little, passing barely anyone. It was still 'early' to everyone else but the teachers. I got the lecture hall door and opened them.

When I stepped inside no one was in there but him... sitting at his desk. He snapped his head up at the sudden opening and closing of the heavy doors, "Why are you here so early?" I set my coffee down at my desk and tried to go over to him. He noticed I was limping and was walking over to help me.

"I wanted to thank you", I said holding his drink. He took it from my hand and took a sip. "Thank you, and are you sure you being here early is for the coffee or the fact that you can barely walk?" I dropped my head down a bit, "The second one."

He hummed, "Thought so..." We were quiet, it was awkward silence but somewhat comforting. I still had my head down looking at my feet. That was until I felt his pointer finger go under my chin and pick up my head making me look at him. "How bad does it hurt?", I've touched him before but this felt different.

My cheek heated and he pulled away, still looking at me. "It's just sore." He turned to the side and pulled the chair from the side of his desk and gestured me to sit.

I sat down and he took the chair from behind his desk and pushed it in front of me. He sat down and reached for my leg putting it on his lap. My breath was caught in my throat, from here I knew what he was going to do but it still made me anxious.

"Is this alright?", he said before lifting up the bottom of my pant leg. "Yeah", he lifted it up and started massaging my ankle, it felt great. I didn't have a sprain, I was honestly just sore and I couldn't figure it out. I slowly closed my eyes and was just enjoying it.

The pressure was released, "You okay." Hotch said chuckling, looking at me.

I opened my eyes, "What... yeah I'm fine. It feels good." It was like getting a massage after a long day of roller skating. He kept smiling as he continued only stopping because class was in 5 minutes. He stood up and went to his desk, I scooted the chair to the edge of his desk.

He went back to working, staring at the papers. "What are you doing?", he glanced over at me. "Looking over the lesson plan, we have a lot to go over."

"I know someone that'll help me understand." I folded my arms on the desk resting my head on my forearms. Hotch leaned back in his chair, "Is that right." I nodded smiling.

"Well they must be very nice to help you out."

I shrugged, "Oh they are." We both started laughing, when we calmed down we were just looking at each other. No one spoke, just like a few minutes ago. I could feel the tension around us, like he was the only thing that mattered.

"Y/n-", he was cut off by a student opening the door and settling in a chair. Both of us were startled, I tried my best to act normal going to my seat, the massage helped a lot. I took steps forward without limping, I took out a notebook being ready to take notes.

As I waited for class to start, the class was flooding with students. Hotch let the talking die down before speaking out.

"Alright, I hope that you guys read the syllabus... if not that's okay. We are going to be starting off with criminal behavior, how it affects their crimes and how it can be reflected in their crimes. If you're trained in the topic you can tell a lot about how the unsub was feeling when they committed the act. Whether that be jealousy, anger, or hatred... now before we continue I should mention that I will be showing graphic images."

Hotch stops and walks to his desk, connecting to the tv in the front of the room. "I wanted to start off with someone that everyone knows about... Ted Bundy. He was a serial killer in the 70's and was executed in 89. He murdered, raped, and kidnapped young women. Bundy killed for the dominance, he got off on having power over the women, wanting all control." Hotch flipped through photos of the crimes and what they told us.

He continued to tell us about others like Son of Sam, John Wayne Gacy, and one of the earliest serial killers H.H. Holmes. He spoke out and I was taking notes the entire time, absorbing every word he was saying. When class was over the other students were quick to leave to go to their other classes.

I collected my stuff and put it into my bag, going up to Hotch who was also putting his thing away.

He stood up, "How'd I do." I found it cute that he was asking about the class. "It was good, you were nervous?" We started walking up the stairs to the doors. He innocently placed his hand on my lower back in case my ankle gave me any problems he could help me.

"Yeah", he said laughing nervously. "Mr. FBI, you get nervous? What happened to the badass man I used to know." Hotch looked at me as if saying 'watch it' , "Put me in a police station working a case with other people and I'm fine but I was just worried if I was doing a good job. I never taught a class before."

"Aaron you did great, don't worry. But I'm sure me being there calmed your nerves a bit", he liked the way his name would roll off my lips. We went through the doors into the hall and he removed his hand. "That it did."

We both smiled then parted ways.

The Miys, Ch. 89

Wee-oo-oooooooooooo!

I thought long and hard about this chapter before writing it, and it just felt like it fit more into the narrative. Will it raise questions later? Probably. Am I prepared to answer those questions? I’m pretty sure.

Thank you, @satan-parisienne for being such a lovely person to bounce ideas off of, and for being an amazing sister (real and fictional).

The following week was a fog of exhaustion and mind-numbing soreness. Tyche insisted on sparring each night, either with fencing or some other form of combat, while adamantly refusing to speak other than instructions and taunts regarding my form. Any stretching to relieve my over-worked body had to be done in the gym, at home, or in my office, as those were the only three places I was allowed for the time being. I didn’t even have the relief of walking to stretch my legs, since any time I spent in transit was seated on a transport with two escorts, one on either side.

Conor and Maverick were as patient with me as could be expected, but I could readily admit that I was in a sullen mood and would have done anything for some privacy. Eventually, they both told Tyche to come keep an eye on me herself, they both needed some space. Since she had been working me to the bone, not to mention was responsible for my ongoing rotation of guards, she was honestly the last person I wanted to see at the moment. The second she walked in the door, the feeling was clearly mutual - she wouldn’t even look at me, just stood staring at one of my plants, arms crossed.

“You couldn’t even bring Mac with you?” I glared.

“I haven’t seen him in two weeks,” she snarled back. “Pretty sure you scared him off with your crappy attitude.”

“Maybe it’s because I haven’t had five minutes to myself in the past fucking week,” I muttered, turning away from her. Stomping into the kitchen, I got two cups of coffee, set one on the end of the table closest to her with a thunk - being angry didn’t mean I was going to be rude - before flopping down in her favorite armchair.

The next hour was the most tense round of sipping my walls had ever seen. She surrendered first, standing to pace. “Where the hell are they? They didn’t say how long they would be gone.”

Before I could respond, a chirp came from the ceiling. “Human Conor and Human Maverick are at the Undine, playing a Terran game with needles and a target. They advised me when they left that they would return when both of you have categorized your defecation, although I am not entirely sure what that means.”

Against my will, a snort of laughter almost sprayed my coffee onto the deck. Tyche’s eyes tracked as she parsed what was just said, and I recognized her scowl as the one she used to keep from laughing. “I know for a fact that you have a better grasp of human euphemisms than that. You knew what they meant.”

“Simon has informed me that it is a standard Terran practice to diffuse tense situations with humor. Did I do it wrong?”

“We aren’t tense,” she argued.

“Tyche. There is currently less strain detected in the hull plating than there is in that room. Please re-evaluate your statement.”

She gaped like a fish at the remark, while I dissolved into breathless laughter. “Oh my gods, who taught you to say things like that?”

“Several humans on the Ark display a propensity for conversational rejoinders using wit. I find it very unique and pleasing.”

“I don’t care how witty you think you’re being, we don’t need to sort our shit out,” Tyche asserted airily.

It was my turn to gape. “You have me under house arrest! Don’t you think that needs to be addressed!?”

I was less than intimidated by the finger she pointed at me with, despite her gesturing like it was loaded. “First of all, it’s a protective detail, not house arrest. You’re free to go wherever you want, in a transport, with escorts.”

“How is that any - “

“Second of all,” she raised her voice to interrupt me. “Do you really think I have the authority to make that decision? Yeah, you’re my sister, and I love you, but you are also my boss, dork. Not the other way around.”

Every processor that I joked existed in my head stopped with a grinding screech. How fucking stupid am I? “You mean to tell me I could have just walked off at any point?”

“Pfffft. No.” Annnnnnd now she was looking at me like I was an idiot. “I mean, you can try. But the door won’t open.”

If I wasn’t already sitting down, I’d have fallen on my ass. It hurt itself in its confusion! Something supplied from the back of my head. “So. I’m not on house arrest, but I also can’t walk out that door by myself. You don’t have the authority to assign a protective detail to me, but you did assign a rotation of escorts… Ohhhhhhh.” Apparently ‘turning it off and back on again’ worked for mental processors, too. “I am under house arrest, or protective custody, or whatever, but it wasn’t your call.”

“Finally!” she threw her hands in the air and flopped elegantly across my couch.

“Which means it was someone on the Council. So Xiomara did this.”

An exhausted thumbs-up popped comically from the pile of scarves and sweaters formerly known as my sister.

“Why didn’t you just tell me that?” I demanded angrily, chucking a pillow where I thought her head was.

A muffled voice came from under the pillow. “I did manage to make sure you actually like and trust your escorts.”

“What do you mean my escorts? Who else’s… The entire Council?”

The thumb popped back up.

“And you couldn’t tell me.”

Second thumb.

“Why not?”

One hand dropped and the other flashed me a middle finger.

“Okay, can’t answer that either.” I thought for a minute. “Can’t as in, not supposed to, or can’t, as in you don’t know?”

Index finger. First one.

“Is there a penalty if you do tell me?”

Thumbs down.

“So, really, there’s not anything stopping you from telling me except you keeping your word,” I pointed out.

Thumbs down.

Wait, what?

“There is something other than your word keeping you from telling me, but it’s not a penalty.”

Thumbs up.

“You literally can’t tell me, can you?”

Thumb still up. That explained the twenty-questions game, and her terseness lately.

“Are you physically incapable of making the words go, or is something preventing the words from getting there once they go?”

Two fingers. Second option.

“What is Xiomara thinking!?” I blurted angrily. “This is over the line. She may have the authority to put the Council under watch for our safety, since Safety is her jurisdiction, but dinking around in your head!? She can’t do that!”

I glanced back at Tyche, her hand in a thumbs down. “Something I said was wrong.” Thumb up. “She doesn’t have the authority to go poking around in your head.”

Thumb stayed up.

“Who does?”

She flapped her hand. Apparently can’t tell me that either.

“Did they have your permission to do this?”

Tyche made a ‘sort of’ waver with her hand before giving a thumbs-up. At this point I wanted to scream in frustration.

Keeping my eyes on her hand, I started talking, playing a sort of hot and cold. “The only person who has the authority to poke around in your head is you…” Thumb up. “Unless you’re unconscious.” Thumb down. “So you were awake and aware, and gave permission…..” Sort of, yeah, again. “But someone suggested it…” Thumb up. “Was it Xiomara?” Thumb down. “Antoine?” Thumb down. “Was anyone else in the room?” Thumb down, to my relief.

Wait. Thumb down?

“This was your idea!?” I shrieked, resisting the urge to tackle her when she gave a thumbs up. “And you thought I was being an idiot!? Tyche, how could you do that!?”

She sat up, gasping for air. “I knew I would tell you at some point. I let it slip a dozen times, and you were so distracted you didn’t notice. So, since Antoine and Derek were clever enough to set up the proximity alerts for those of us who are triggered by random strangers touching us, I asked if whop could set it up so you couldn’t hear me, even if I did slip.”

Hang on. “Say that last part again, slower.”

“I asked if wherb could set it up so you couldn’t hear me, even if I did slip.”

“Oh my gods,” I whispered. “That’s why you haven’t been talking. It’s garbled when you say something I shouldn’t hear, isn’t it?”

She nodded and started talking. It sounded like someone speaking backwards, through a voice distorter, while underwater. “Tyche, it sounds like I’m having another stroke.”

She nodded, and made a ‘keep going’ gesture.

“It’s supposed to, isn’t it? Because even though the brain damage was fixed and I can hear fine now, I had hearing issues for so long that you knew I would brush it off and not think anything of it.”

She nodded again, lips pressed in a firm line. “Because I would notice not hearing you at all, or any noise replacing it, or anything like that. But I literally never noticed that my hearing was garbled again until I was looking for it. Which I wouldn’t, because I should be able to hear fine.”

“Yep,” she confirmed with a firm, final nod.

“Sneaky bitch,” I muttered. It was clever, I had to give her that. I thought back over the past week and all our interactions, trying to determine if any specific topics triggered the parts I couldn’t understand. I started at the day she punched me, and something stood out in screaming neon with alarm bells attached. “We. When you were chewing me out in the gym that day, you kept saying ‘we’. We were counting on Bjornson thinking I’m helpless. We thought we had the advantage.” I paused as one sentence stood out, even clearer and louder than the rest. “This time, he’s got more people than Arantxa did, but we thought we had the advantage…. Because we knew who they were, we knew what they thought…” I focused on her, and felt nothing but fear and confusion as I whispered. “Tyche, how do you know who they are and what they think? How deep into this did Xio drag you?”

She stared at me, wide-eyed and helpless as garbled words fell from her lips.

Long Drives at Midnight

Richie Tozier x Eddie Kaspbrak

Summary: The only reason why Richie has a car is to take Eddie on late night drives when they can’t sleep.

A/N: writing at 3AM? It’s more likely than you think.

Richie and Eddie had a system whenever Eddie was plagued with a nightmare from the summer of ‘89. He would send an SOS on a beeper. The dings of the buzzer would pull the trash mouth of a dead, disorienting sleep but his body automatically knew to grab his coat and car keys.

It was like clockwork every time, which was pretty often nowadays. Sonia had heard him cough at dinner and force-fed him colorful pills, he could still feel her fingers on his jaw. The nightmares got worse when she did things like that, it took him back to their argument and the Neibolt house. The cold flashes would jolt him awake, desperately reaching for the black beeper he hid from his mother.

Eddie pulled his blue sweater closer to his body and leaned against the window, waiting for Richie’s old beat up car’s headlights to turn the corner. Richie’s car would wheeze, halting at the curb across the street “I’m here to pick up a Spaghetti Man?” Richie questions playfully, rolling down the window. Eddie’s brown eyes rolled, opening the passenger door.

The brown-haired boy sunk down into the surprisingly comfortable seat, the air conditioner hitting his face nicely. Richie only had to look at him to know how bad the nightmare was; this one was bad. The curly-headed boy pushed up his glasses and put the car into drive “Where to?” He didn’t have the joking tone he usually spoke with, he was cautious, asking him gently.

“Nowhere,” Eddie responded simply with a shrug of his shoulders. Richie sighed heavily, he knew where nowhere was. Nowhere was a spot about 20 minutes from Eddie’s house, it overlooked a forest with the most beautiful view of the stars and most importantly it was quiet. Eddie never spoke on the way there, he kept to himself, his head on the cold glass listening to Richie quietly sing along to the music on the radio. They were all mixtapes Eddie made for him, always.

The long drive was therapeutic, the chaos from Derry long behind them, the ghosts in their heads seemed to vanished as the large pine trees came into view. Rich pulled into a spot that overlooked the forest below, he put the car into park and turned off the lights. The darkness was brighter with Eddie by his side, Eddie as soon as he heard the click of the lights turn off moved to Richie’s side to cuddle close to him. They sat there for a few moments in the silence, viewing the stars and wishing on shooting stars that once in a while passed them by.

“I had another one Rich,” Eddie finally speaks. Richie’s arm that was draped over the smaller boy's shoulders stiffened, his eyebrows knit together. “You left me in the sewer, you left us.” Richie hated those dreams.

“I can’t leave you Eds,” he tells him reassuringly. Eddie was too upset to correct him about his name. He shifts in his seat so that he could put his hand on Richie's chest, feeling the heartbeat through his grey t-shirt.

“Are you sure?”

Richie nods and his eyes follow another shooting star “You’re stuck with me,” he chuckles, bringing a small smile to Eddie’s gloomy features. His heartbeat starts to beat rapidly and Eds could feel it “I love you, Eddie. I can’t leave you.”

Eddie slowly moves away, repositing his body so that he was faced towards Richie. The moon hit him so perfectly, his glasses creating a cute shadow on his eyes. His lips were slightly parted in anticipation, and so were Eddie’s. The smaller of the two leaned in and kissed the other boy softly on the lips. It was slow and drawn out, Richie’s lengthy fingers coming up to graze his jaw before cupping his face with his hand.

They pull away with a delicate smacking sound when their lips parted “I love you,” Eddie whispers, his forehead against Richies. Richie hums in delight and strokes his cheek with the pad of his thumb. “I’m tired, Rich.”

“Sleep, Eds. I’ll wake you up when we get back.”

“What if the nightmares come back?”

“They won’t when you’re with me.”

“Promise?”

“I promise, Eds.”

Birthday Boy

Decided to write something for my beautiful chocobaby since hes officially one years old >:0

beware its kinda long. also theres like a tiny joke about like gun control and shit but please dont take it seriously its just a joke

thanks to my wonderful sibling @agressivemacintosh for brainstorming this with me

Through his sub-consciousness, Prompto's body took in the cool air that was wafting through a newly-opened window. He shivered instinctively, although not fully awake. The blond wrapped his blanket tighter around himself, bringing his own body warmth closer to himself as his unconscious self tried to keep from waking. The blissful sleep wouldn't last much longer, however. The Advisor was on a mission. A musical, soft voice made itself known in the blond's groggy mind. The voice was singing notes familiar to him, but softer and sweeter, the sound felt like a gentle, polished gloss that slid easily across his subconsciousness. However, it did wake him somewhat, as he recognized the tune as the song went on. "...Happy birthday to you," Ignis' voice purred the last line of the song. Sitting on the side of the bed, he bent down and nuzzled Prompto’s cheek until the Blond stirred and began to rub his eyes.

“Wh-” Prompto started, squinting up at the motherly figure above him as his eyes adjusted to the light.

Ignis smiled down at him, expectant. As if waiting for him to remember something. Prompto worked his eyes open, slowly taking in the situation.

“What were you-”

Prompto started to ask the advisor what on Eos he was doing so early in the morning, but the smile across the man’s fine features stopped him. It had been a while since Prompto had seen that smile without any prompting. Usually it took an off-color comment from Gladio, a complaint from Noctis, or an actually funny joke from himself to get this giddy, satisfied smile that the Hand of the King now wore.

“Happy birthday,” Ignis said simply.

Prompto blinked a couple of times. His mind took the words that Ignis said and tried to translate them, but for some reason all he was thinking about was how soft Ignis’ shirt looked. He brought his focus back around and tried to remember what Ignis had just said.

“I’m sorry, what did you just say?” He asked, feeling sheepish.

Ignis chuckled as color flushed to Prompto’s cheeks. He then took the blond’s hands, levering him up so he was sitting against the pillows.

“I said happy birthday, Dear,” Ignis repeated himself, and this time Prompto’s face shone with recognition.

“OH SHIT!” he cried, rather loudly. Ignis drew back a bit, surprised at the sudden outburst. “That’s today, isn’t it?” Prompto laughed at himself and ran his hand through his unkempt, golden locks.

“Yes,” Ignis chuckled once more, recovering from the shock. “I do believe it is.” His words were enunciated in a way only Ignis could speak.

“Wow, I can’t believe I forgot!” Prompto exclaimed, waking up quickly. The gunman had an uncanny ability to go from unbelievably groggy to remarkably awake and active in only a few minutes; a skill that Noctis often despised.

Without skipping a beat, Prompto continued, “I can’t believe you remembered!” He laughed, a bit of softness tugging at his features.

Ignis watched him with the same, amused smile as the blond finally seemed to be aware of what was happening. He waited for the next barrage of questions, however, before saying anything else.

Just as Ignis predicted: “What time is it anyway? Have you been planning this? Like, how come you remembered it but I didn’t?” He paused to laugh, “oh, and where are Noct and Gladio?” the blond’s voice softened.

“They are busy preparing their part of the present,” Ignis answered calmly.

“Present?” Prompto interjected. “You guys didn’t have to get me a present!” He smiled but he looked worried.

Ignis clicked his tongue. “I don’t see why there’s a reason not to,” he reasoned. “Is your birthday somehow less special than Noct’s?”

“Well no-” Prompto started.

“I didn’t believe so,” Ignis finished. “Now,” he leaned down and planted a kiss on Prompto’s forehead. “get dressed: we have places to go and presents to receive.”

Ignis stood and began shuffling things around the room while Prompto got dressed. As Prompto was about to put on his shirt, Ignis stopped him. After a second of confusion, the advisor handed him a box.

“This is where the festivities begin.” He proclaimed.

Prompto looked flustered, but opened the box anyway, intrigued as to what this could mean. He pulled the lid off of the box, and in the box was some sort of folded fabric. The fabric looked too soft and comfortable to be any sort of uniform or formal wear. The gunman picked up the garment to examine it.

It was a t-shirt! The sleeves were a little too long for his liking, but what drew his immediate attention was the graphic on the front. There was an image of two guns crossed over each other with words reading “Gun control is using both hands”

Prompto outright laughed and held the shirt close to his chest. “Iggy, this is so dumb, I love it!”

Ignis chuckled in response. He paused, observing the shirt himself, then put a finger to his lips in thought. Prompto was about to ask him what he was thinking when Ignis snapped, then turned his gaze back on the blond.

“Hold it out in front of you by the collar.” He commanded.

Prompto obliged, and as he did so, Ignis reached forward and grasped the just-too-long sleeves of the shirt. Using force of will and very experienced hands, Ignis ripped the sleeves off with his gloved hands.

Prompto cackled in delight, remembering the many times Ignis had been dismayed when Prompto mutilated yet another shirt.

“I was actually about to say something about the sleeves,” Prompto smiled widely at the advisor.

“I know,” Ignis affirmed. “Now, there is one other gift I have to give before we leave.”

The Hand pulled a long chain out of his shirt pocket. He held it out to Prompto for the gunman to observe. The chain formed a long necklace, at the end of which was a pair of dog tags. Prompto’s eyes widened as he further examined the ornaments. On one tag, in their respective handwritings, were engraved Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis’ names. On the other was Prompto’s name. The gift was simple, but Prompto’s chest radiated with the warmth in his heart at the sight of it.

This feeling was further increased as Ignis gestured to the tag with his and the others’ names on it. “This tag usually bares the name of the soldier’s family,” He said.

Prompto’s eyes immediately stung with tears and he lunged forward and hugged the man with all of his strength. There was a “oomph” from Ignis as he did so, but he made no movement to stop him.

“Thank you so much,” Prompto murmured into Ignis’ shoulder. The advisor chuckled in response.

“You mean a lot to each of us, Prompto,” Ignis said. Prompto nuzzled his head further into the man’s shoulder. The blond took in the sweet, clean smell of the advisor’s shirt.

After a few more seconds, Ignis pulled Prompto away and held him at arm’s length while he adorned him with the dog tags. “Now,” he asserted. “We’d best be on our way.”

After a visit to The Hammerhead for a kiss on the cheek from Cindy, and a giant 89′ mm super-bazooka developed by Cid especially for Prompto, the gunman was then escorted to Cape Caem, where it was said the others were waiting for him.

The blond opened the door cautiously, not knowing what awaited him. As he tried to walk through the threshold, however, he was very suddenly pinned to the wall. He gasped, his eyes growing wide as they took in the sight before him.

“Happy birthday, you little shit,” Gladio’s voice growled from above him.

Prompto, for some reason, couldn’t quite meet his eyes. His eyes, in fact, were very busy taking in the very, very, very tight recreation of Cindy’s outfit that the Shield had been forced into.

After accidentally staring for just a bit too long, Prompto cough-laughed, covering his mouth and squeezing his eyes shut. “WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?” he managed to wheeze.

He heard Ignis chuckling behind him as he made his way through the door and shut it behind himself.

“Something special for the special birthday boy,” Gladio replied shortly, crossing his arms.

“I’m... flattered!” Prompto gasped between fits of laughter.

Noctis, making his way into the room, faltered in his step as he was wearing 3 inch high-heels and fitting smoothly in one of Luna’s dresses.

“Noct!” the gunman exclaimed. “You look stunning!” He was still laughing, but he meant it genuinely.

“Thanks,” the prince replied unenthusiastically.

“No really!” Prompto insisted.

He didn’t get the chance to fully flatter and embarrass the prince as Ignis quickly rushed out of the room and reappeared in an outfit almost identical to Aranea’s.

After Prompto finished this third coughing fit, the three gathered around him and led him to the kitchen where Ignis had baked a cake that was adorned with a little fondant camera on top. The blond, of course, wouldn’t let them cut and eat it without taking eighty pictures first. That wasn’t the only thing he took pictures of, either.

Later that night, lying on the king-size bed, Noctis, Prompto, Gladiolus and Ignis all laughed at the ridiculous outfits they were wearing, and they were also surprised at how many shots of each of them the blond had snapped without them noticing.

“Holy shit, Specs looks good in that one!” Noctis exclaimed, reaching over Prompto’s outstretched arm to point at a picture of Ignis. The background was warm and out of focus, while Ignis was framed beautifully by the lighting behind him.

“If memory serves me correctly, that was this morning when I was attempting to wake you,” Ignis stated, his words slowing as he processed what that would imply.

There was a bit of laughter, then a lapse in conversation that Prompto tried to fill by clicking through more pictures.

“Prompto,” Noctis started. “how did you get all those pics, anyway?”

Prompto made a face. “I don’t know what you mean,” he answered simply.

“Yeah, how do you get all those pics without us noticing either? I don’t remember you pulling out your camera at all.” Gladio added, and the three of them turned to look at Prompto.

Prompto kept clicking through pictures, avoiding looking at any of them. He kept a straight face and focused directly on his camera screen.

“Who knows.”

Sanctuary, part 10 (RR/Lylla)

“Something like you.” Three little words that can destroy a man’s soul. But three other words, if said by the right person at the right time, can save it.

"Okay, doctor. And I use that term loosely," Rocket growled. "You wanted to talk to me. Here I am."

The kree doctor looked at Rocket, then at Lylla sitting next to the raccoon, the back at Rocket. "I hoped to talk to you alone."

"Close as you're gonna get, doc. You're lucky the others aren't here."

"All right." The blue-skinned man leaned back in his seat. "Rocket, did you know, the reason you have '89' in your name, excuse me, your designation, is that Halfworld used the Kree calendar. Your Uplift project began in year 6689 Imperial."

"Yeah, so?"

The Kree pointed at Lylla. "Since we were proceeding from their notes, we used similar naming practices. Her designation starts with 96. Between 6689 and 6696 there was virtually no Uplift research anywhere."

"Halfworld labs blew up, and no one really has any luck with supersoldier Uplifts." Rocket shrugged. "And it's not worth it to engineer slave uplifts. They almost always rebel eventually. Few races out on the fringe have 'em, though."

"Ah yes, the lab explosion." The doctor tapped a finger on the table. "Right after you escaped. Convenient timing. A reactor with a hundred safeguards goes critical and no one but you and your friend Foster got out."

Rocket flicked an ear irritably. "Get to the point."

The kree nodded. "Supersoldier Uplifts aren't worth the trouble. Such was the institutional opinion. There'd never been one that was worth the expense. As far as anyone could tell, you were no exception. Just another violent little escapee, not worth anyone's trouble."

"And?"

"So no one paid much attention to you. You were just a small time thug, bounty hunter, mercenary. Not much happening there to attract any attention. Until you joined the Guardians. Until you helped save Xandar, and even then, not much attention was paid. You got a statue eventually, maybe you've seen it, but the research community didn't care. Then you helped save life as we know it last year. 6696 Year Imperial. Suddenly you were well known. There was even a children's show on Hala..."

"Yeah, I got a few Units from that. Funny, Kree still look down their noses at me."

"...Successful, an ace pilot, a known tech genius who built bombs out of-"

"Wait a minute.". Rocket leaned forward. "Are you saying the creeps that ran that new Uplift team, 'cluding you, did it because of me?"

"That's right.". The Kree couldn't help but look smug, but it didn't last. "An active, successful Uplift? Maybe it was worth another look. So we hired some Ravagers to go to Terra and collect wildlife - best to start animals from the same planet, though for some reason they didn't bring back any raccoons - and we set to work. Mine wasn't the only team to be funded. We weren't the only ones to make that mistake."

"What mistake?" This time it was Lylla chiming in.

"Ah yes, Lylla, is it now? We were nicer to your crop of Uplifts than Halfworld was with 89P13. I only have to look in Paul's eyes when the subject comes up to know how guilty he feels. The hell they put you through," he glanced at Rocket, "It's a marvel you're sane. We were nicer to our Uplifts. But not nice enough. It's an ugly process, surgery, drugs, nanotech. Painful, no matter how gentle you try to be, and we weren't as gentle as we could have been."

"You aren't saying anything that convinces me I shouldn't kill you, doc," Rocket growled, and Lylla put her hand on his.

"Ha!" The Kree was genuinely amused. "You don't need to! Sooner or later one of these Uplifts is going to have a nightmare, or just a bad day. Then I'll wake with Sharptooth's fangs in my neck, or Blackjack will be waiting invisible with a knife, or Alyssum - maybe you haven't met Aly, our little chemist-cook with the whiskers and the cute pink nose - will put something in my food and I'll go to bed and never wake up. They all remember me, you know. Some weren't even intelligent when I did my work, but they remember."

"Not grievin' here, Doc."

"That's what happens when one of them has a bad day, Rocket. One of the tech ones, they might get into the reactor and then there's just a crater here in the park."

He paused, took a sip of water. "What happens when someone who can build a bomb that will kill a Celestial has a bad day?"

"Not following you, Doc." But Rocket was. Lylla could see the tension building up in his small frame.

The Kree leaned forward. "They aren't on your level, are they? Our techs. They're good, yes. But Halfworld captured lightning in a bottle. It's your brain I worry about, Rocket. Not your guns or your piloting skill. Your brain. They made you too well, Rocket.

"What happens when the Sovereign or the Kree or Nova (because I've tried to convince them to kill you. I really have) sends an assassin and one of your friends gets killed instead? What happens when she," he stabbed a finger at Lylla - "Stops the bullet meant for you?"

Rocket was silent. Lylla opened her mouth to speak but the kree went on. "What happens is someone who can build a bomb like that from practically nothing, in minutes, spends days or weeks or longer thinking that the Sovereign home world, or Hala, or Xandar, should go away. And it does. And then you're not Rocket, the Guardian, the bounty hunter, the mercenary any more. You're Rocket Raccoon, Destroyer Of Worlds.

"And only afterward, as we watch the ash fall from the burning sky and we count the dead in their millions or billions, that we realize we didn't need to fear the Brood, or another Kree-Skrull War, or another Ronan, or Thanos. We didn't need to fear a monster coming to get us. Because we'd already made our own."

"That's hardly fair." Lylla, as Rocket was still silent. "Rocket's saved -"

"This is what keeps me awake at night. You asked why I volunteered to work here, Rocket. This is why: because if I show these Uplifts that even the men who made them aren't all bad, if we give them lives, and hope, and love, and if we're very, very lucky, one of them won't turn into something like you. A mass of hate, and fear, and awful memories attached to a brain that could kill us all."

The Kree doctor pushed his chair back with a scrape of metal. "That's what I had to say. If you're not going to kill me, I have work to do."

The door clicked shut behind him as Lylla sat staring at Rocket. "He's right about me, you know," the raccoon whispered.

"No he isn't, Rocket." She leaned close for comfort, and even her scent, which always relaxed him, had no impact.

"I could do it," Rocket went on. "When Ronan came here with an Infinity Stone, one of the greatest weapons in the universe, I thought 'What an amateur.' I don't need a Stone. Give me a few days in the air vents of a major power plant and I could turn this world into a smoking cinder. And every time they kicked me, threw me in jail, pushed me around for being a freak, I thought about it. I'm a time bomb, Lylla. It's just a question of how many people I kill when I go off."

He exhaled, and began to rise from the chair. "I'm not safe to be around. I should just go."

"Rocket." Her grip on his arm was strong. Maybe he could twist free, but he didn't try. "Rocket. I could kill you right now. My venom glands work now, I could bite you once and you'd be dead before you got to the door. You trust me not to. Why?"

"It's not...it's not in your nature."

Now she tugged, and down he came into the seat again, unwilling to resist. It never occurred to him to resist her. "Drax could kill every doctor in this compound. So could Gamora. By the time Nova troops arrived the place would be a slaughterhouse. Peter could fly the Milano into a building and kill who knows how many people. Why don't they?"

"They would," Rocket muttered. "If there was a good enough reason."

"Rocket." Lylla nuzzled the side of the raccoon's neck, and finally he reacted, pressing back against the now familiar contact. "You're dangerous, Rocket. Maybe you are a bomb. But you're our bomb. My bomb. And when you blow up a planet, I know it'll be for a good reason."

"When I blow up another planet," he mumbled, but there was the ghost of a smile.

She stood, and pulled him up after her. "Now you hold up your head and you tell yourself, 'I'm not going to let a doctor who admits to being a monster call me one.' You said it yourself, Rocket. We don't have to be what they made us to be. They made me to kill, and I'm not going to unless I have to. They made you to be a weapon. Well, be a weapon then, but only when you think it's right. And stop moping! Don't give that das't asshole the satisfaction of destroying you with a speech."

There had always been a core of fear, of loneliness, of hate deep inside Rocket. Groot had concealed it for a time, and the Guardians covered for him whether they knew it or not, and slowly he'd healed. But only in the last few days, snuggled up next to a warm body so much like his, breathing in her scent as she slept, had Rocket ever really felt like he belonged.

There was one more thing. One more terrible thing in the way. "Lylla," Rocket said. "Its my fault. They went to Terra and got you, or your parents, and all the other animals to Uplift. They did all that to you because they wanted to make more like me, and they took Terran animals because the only effective Uplift they knew was of Terra. Me, Rocket the rac," He forced himself to say it, "The raccoon. They took you, they tortured you to make more tools, more weapons. It's all my fault."

"They're going to offer me a job you know," Lylla said, as though he hadn't spoken. "I heard Doctor Foster talking to Dey. They want a liaison between the Xandarian authorities and not just these uplifts, but any more they find."

She understood. She understood that he was too dangerous to be around, that he wasn't worth it.

It was a perfect job for her, Rocket knew. Ideally suited to her skills and personality. And safer, by far, than remaining with the Guardians. Here she would be safe and happy. This was better for everyone. Rocket forced himself to smile, and opened his mouth to congratulate her.

But it didn't happen. As though under another being's control his little clawed hands reached out to take her webby ones. And the words that came out of his mouth, three little words, were perhaps not the ones she expected, but they were good enough.

"Please don't go," Rocket whispered, and for the first time in his life he was the one to propose a kiss. It was eagerly accepted.

Undercover - Chapter 15

Chapter Selection

"What do we got now Garcia", I took at seat between Hotch and Morgan.

"Okay today we have a case in one Reno, Nevada. This is Henry Baxter he was found yesterday by some hikers." We all look at the crime scene photo and Morgan speaks up.

"What makes the police think this isn't just a murder." Reid takes a closer look at the details and makes the connection to a previous case. Garcia starts to speak but he cuts her off.

"This looks like a case from 25 years ago. There were bodies of abusive fathers, this unsub was active from 84 to 89. After that he just disappeared." Rossi had a look of realization.

"I remember that case Gideon and I worked on it. We got close to catching him but there was never another body. The FBI called us back to Quantico."

"We'll talk more about it on the jet, let's go." Everyone stands up and go for their go bags. I get into the SUV with Hotch, we leave first before the team. The drive was quiet, we did talk about the notes coming to the our house and my ex. What we would do and if I'd tell the team if the problem escalated.

We got out the car and walked to the jet going inside. I take a seat in the back by the window, Hotch sitting next me. "Sooo", he turned his attention from the case file. "Can you talk to Rossi about that trip, we all need one", a smile tugging at his lips. "I'll talk to him", I let out a small 'yay'.

Aaron glanced out the window, he didn't see anyone. He leaned forward and pressed a gentile kiss on my lips. We didn't notice the already present, Spencer and Rossi standing the aisle. The rest of the team got there not long after, we waited till the last half hour of the flight to go over the case again. "Ok so first start with the dumping grounds. He displaying them, setting them in an upright position", Rossi finished speaking.

"Ok there was just another body found an hour ago, I just got wind of it. What do you guys need from me." Garcia finished then Hotch started. "Garcia I need you to look for men that are 50-60 that have lived in the Reno area since the 80's."

"Look for that and any men between the age range that went to prison, he stopped killing for 26 years that doesn't just happen." JJ said while flipping through the case file. "Garcia I think that enough for now."

Garcia ended the call and Hotch stood up, "Rossi and Morgan go to the most recent crime scene. Emily an Reid go to the victims house, talk tot he families. Y/n, JJ, and I will go to precinct to set up."

Hotch went to the back of the plane to get a cup of coffee. I put my hand o his arm and turn to him, "Did you talk to Rossi." He finishes pouring his cup. "Yes", I smile and walk away to talk me seat.

The plane lands JJ, Hotch, and I all go to the precinct.

The case took about a week to solve; the unsub was Matthew Ford. He was in prison for 27 years due to attempt murder. We were on our way back on the jet, I was to the right of Aaron. We were on crowded in the center of the jet.

But we all did the vacation and Rossi has the money to do it. Hotch started talking, "Dave if it makes you feel better we can you this as an excuse to 'team bond'."

Rossi glanced at all of us, "Fine but I choose where we're going." Yays were spread throughout the jet. I feel like I needed this the most. My mind was constantly on my ex, Hayley, combined with the stress of the job and what happened with Carmine I was feeling overwhelmed.

Some nights I'd wake up covered in sweat and other I wouldn't be able to sleep at all. It was all still happening and made me feel useless. From the looks of it Aaron didn't have any problems with it.

We got back to Quantico and Rossi had already made the plans and the location.

"We're gonna go to Honolulu, surprisingly I've never been there. We leave at 8am and yes I bought your tickets but I expect to be paid back." Rossi stepped into his office and closed the door. Morgan, JJ, and Emily all gathered their stuff and went home to pack. I sat at my desk waiting for Aaron to finish the files that remained on his desk.

My eyelids were starting to get droopy and I put my head down. "Why don't you go home and get some sleep", I picked up my head and saw Spencer sitting at his desk. "I would but Hotch drove me, I that you went home."

"Nope, when we left for the case there were some files that still needed to be done. You know I don't like to leave things unfinished." I smiled a bit putting my head back down.

"So, how are you and Hotch?" I didn't look at him. "Fine I just wish he'd hurry up!" I mumbled slightly yelling the last part. Spencer was still talking to me but everything started to fade away.

I woke up to someone shaking my shoulder. Rossi stood above me, "Hotch told me to wake you up he's almost done." I nodded still tired and couldn't make out words. He walked through the glass doors and went home.

I stood up and stretched walking into Hotchs office, "I'm almost down give me 5 minutes."

"Ok", I mumbled rubbing my eyes and laying down on the couch. I felt drained but this time I couldn't go back to sleep. "Annnd done, ok we can go." I stood up from the couch and held my hand out. He grabbed it and we walked to the car.

Aaron got into the drivers seat and started the car. II got in and put my hand on his thigh. He looked down at the gesture, "Thought I was supposed to d that to you."

I giggled, "Deal with it." I squeezed his thigh and he was stifling a laugh.

When we got home I was somewhat awake and dropped all of my stuff off at the door dragging my way through the house and to the bed. I slummed down, not bothering to change my clothes, I still had to pack.

We made right before they closed the gate on us, Rossi had bought everyone first class tickets and we sat down. "What the hell took you so long", Emily looked back at us. I glanced at Aaron, "I overslept and Hotch had to bring Jack to Jessica's.

She turned back around and put on her head phones. Reid sat in the middle row reading a book, JJ and Morgan were talking a few rows ahead.

The flight was around 13 hours and they were spent looking out the window and reading. We got there around 9pm and went straight to the hotel. Rossi got everyone a separate room except for me and Hotch.

"Ok in the morning I wanna go to the beach. I need back my tan, can't get that in Virginia." Aaron chuckled in my ear as we were about to go to bed. "Ok sounds like a plan."

"Night."

"Night princess."

I woke up to a call, I didn't wake up and instead Aaron answered. It was Spencer, "Hey are you gonna come down or do I have to get you." Aaron didn't answer instead he hummed. "Okay fine sleep in", he hung up the phone.

ZooDystopia Chapter 1

This is the story of Zootopia that was the original version of the story, back when it was pitched as "Savage". This story is based off of the original concept created by Byron Howard and Matthias Lechner.

Part 1

*plink* * plink* *plink*

"What the He-" *plink* * plink*

Nick Wilde opened his eyes. He had been happily asleep but a few moments ago until he felt something cold and wet hit him square between the eyes. The pipe above his bed had a hairline crack going down its length and small droplets of water were leaking. Awake now, he stretched for a bit and after a while convinced himself to get out of bed. At least, it was a bed to him; his bed was in fact actually a large clothing drawer that served as his bed. Sadly, a full sized bed for 1 was not a luxury he could afford at the moment.

As Nick stood up out of bed, he was still tired enough to forget the pipe above him which resulted in him hitting his head with an audible CRACK. He clutched his head and saw stars for a second, the pain was sharp but brief... thankfully. Nick looked to his left at his alarm clock and saw that he was actually up much earlier than he wanted to be. He took a moment to weigh the pros and cons of going back to sleep but decided that getting an early start for the day was for the best.

Stumbling his way to the bathroom he made sure to carefully make his way around the many buckets that surrounded his living space. They were set up to catch the water falling from the many pipes that lined the ceiling of his room. For some it would be odd to live like this but hey rent is expensive and if some bear is willing to let him live in their basement for dirt-cheap rent, then some leaky pipes were only a minor problem. Nick climbed into the bathroom and took a cold shower. Living in the Rainforest District made things rather humid and he preferred to start his days not panting the heat away.

As Nick showered he made a mental checklist of today's tasks. Wake up, get ready, eat something for once, go to the doctor, and get to work, etc. "What a bother" Nick muttered to himself as he dried himself off. He continued his morning routine and finished by putting on his standard attire, nice slacks and a shirt with tie. As he put on his tie he found his hand lingering around his neck, touching the shock collar fastened there. These "tame collars" were required on all predators in the city, while being very bulky and annoying to wear they also itched like crazy. Nick however had a secret technique he liked to use to ease its annoyance. He took a small tube labeled NUMBING CREAM EXTRA STRENGTH from the medicine cabinet and squeezed a small amount on his fingertips. Be then rubbed his fingers around his neck and within seconds he felt nothing and was good for the next couple of hours.

Leaving the bathroom and entering his kitchen, Nick opened his mini fridge and grabbed a small cricket flavored energy bar. Tearing it open, he sat at his diminutive table and read the news on his phone. He had just opened up Zoogle when he received a phone call. Before he could say "Who on heck is calling me at 6 in the morning?" Nick checked the caller ID and saw that if was from none other than his friend Honey. He swiped to answer the call and put the phone up to his ear.

"Hello Hon-"

"NICK I'VE DONE IT, I'VE CRACKED THE CODE!"

"Oh really, you finally cracked the code."

"YES, I'VE FINALLY DONE IT."

"Tell me then, what has the great conspiracy theorist, Honey Badger, discovered in her research?"

"NICK, I'M SERIOUS THIS TIME I'VE ACTUALLY DONE IT!"

"Oh I believe you, just like I believed you the last ten times. Now tell me what it is you….discovered?"

"(Sigh) OK here it goes. You know how all of society is about people being together. Its all about following others and being safe, right? Following the Covenant of Coexistence so we don't kill each other, right? Listen to me, who do we know who flock together? Hhhhmmmm? Who always sticks together for safety?"

" Let me guess…it's the sheep isn't it Honey?"

"YES! YOU UNDERSTAND NICK I'M SO GLAD! Think of the implications Nick! It all makes sense now, the sheep on the dollar, the ancient people of DunBroch, the flying saucers, all of it,Nick, all of it! "

" Hmmm, yes that sounds great Honey but hey listen I've got a busy day today. So how about you call me later and we can talk all about it. Okay?"

"Oh yeah…OK sure Nicky. Well...talk later then!" (BEEP)

Nick put down his phone. While Honey was a nut, she did keep him entertained… and did his taxes. So it wasn't so bad that he sometimes received odd texts and calls from her. Checking the time, Nick got up from the table and made his way to the stairs at the other end of the room, making sure to dump the wrapper of the energy bar in his slightly overfilled trash can. Nick opened the door right before the rain emitters turned on and the whole of the Rainforest District reflected the light of the morning sun. Just as he took a long deep breath of the air the rain started. With seconds to spare Nick managed to get into the car just before the downpour hit him. With adrenaline pumping, he started his car and backed out on to the street. "This is too much BS in the morning for my taste," Nick muttered to himself.

Nick zoomed past the early traffic of the rainforest district and arrived at the doctor's office located downtown ahead of schedule. Much to his surprise, he was able to get parking on the side of the street. As he slid coins into the meter he stared for a second at the coin in his paw. FAUNA CITY was proudly stamped on one side with the other side being stamped with a ram's head. Catching himself in his momentary insanity, Nick slid the last coin into the meter.

"I can't believe she's getting to me,"

The doctor's office was packed with all sorts of animals. Some big, some tall, some well kept, while others smelled like they needed a bath. Wedged in between a buffalo and a large tiger was Nick. Wondering how long this was to be his life, he took a look at his number in line which proudly read #89. He found some comfort in this for a second until the loudspeaker crackled to life and said "NOW SERVING #6". Nick groaned and got comfortable.

After waiting for what seemed eternity and getting emotionally invested in a rather trashy paternity test show, Nick dislodged himself from between the two sleeping mammals and entered the doctor's office. There waiting for him was his assigned doctor for the day, a portly hippopotamus named Dr. Goldberg. The Doctor was faster than he looked and took no time in taking Nicks Vitals. Nick barely had time to change into the sterile exam gown before the doctor started his exam. As he was invading the poor fox's personal space in the way only a doctor could, he asked him basic questions.

"Name?"

"Nicholas Piberius Wilde, Sir."

"Height?"

"4 ft tall, sir."

"Weight?"

"80 Lbs, sir."

"Age?"

"32, sir."

"Alright, sit here for a moment."

Dr. Goldberg went to his desk and wrote down Nick's information on a sheet of paper. Then after he was done he went over to a cabinet and started to rummage around for a minute. Nick's heart started to beat a bit faster because he new exactly what the doctor was getting. Dr. Goldberg returned to Nick with an odd contraption that looked like kitchen tongs. "Look down please," said Dr. Goldberg. Nick excitedly bent forward, this was the one thing that made his routine check ups worth his time...When the collar finally came off! Dr. Goldberg had trouble attaching the device to the collar but when he did get it on he made on large movement and with that the collar snapped off.

It landed with a small thud in Nicks lap. Freedom came with a price however, now his head felt lighter. "Alright, you can straighten back up now" Dr. Goldberg said. Nick stood up straight and caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. Oh great and now his neck looked too long. Nick chuckled to himself, here he was in the few minutes of freedom from the collar and instead of enjoying it he was critiquing his own appearance. "I really have gotten to a new low" he said to himself. He brought his paw up to his neck and touched it. His numbing cream had worn off and he could actually feel his neck. The fur had started to wear thin and there was a slightly noticeable ring around his neck. As he rested his paw on his neck he got this really good feeling, like scratching an itch, which caused him to roll his eyes back in pleasure. "Enjoy it while it lasts," said Dr. Goldberg. Nick quickly brought his hand back to his lap and averted eye contact. He could feel his face become red in fear and anger at himself for dropping his guard. "Don't be like that fox, I'm sure that thing is awful to wear but the law is the law," Dr. Goldberg said. They continued with the rest of the exam without either of the two speaking.

"The law is the law," Nick grumbled to himself as the collar was wrapped around his neck and snapped back on him.

Nick left the office at around lunch. With his stomach growling he walked up to his car but stopped when he saw a large ram police officer was writing him a ticket.

"Woah hold up, I still got 30 seconds on that"

"30 seconds till it ends and your not in it starting the car? Pretty sure this is grounds for writing a ticket"

"But…but!"

"'But' nothing fox you'll take the ticket and that's it!"

"You cant do this, this is illegal!"

"Oh yeah? And what are you going to do about it fox? Are you going to pounce on me? Are you going to attack me? Oh I'm sure that will be rich, imagine it 'I need back up a savage fox has attacked me! Officer down! Officer down!' Heehaw, yeah I'd like to see you try."

Nick brought a paw to his face and pinched the bridge of his nose, right between his eyes. There was no reasoning with this ram so he might as well just accept it. The ram continued writing the ticket and placed it on his windshield.

"You have a good day now."

"Yeah thanks a lot."

"Oh fox by the way."

"Wha-" *BZZZZZZZZZZT *

The ram had pulled out a tazer and turned it on at the exact second as Nick had turned. The loud sound as well as the sparks in his corner of vision caused Nick to scream and jump, raising his heart rate and making the shock collar fill his body with electricity. Nick clutched to the side of his car for support. "Bastard!" He said through gritted teeth.

"Hehe, yeah but at least I'm not some mangy fox like you"

The ram tipped his hat at Nick and walked casually down the road. Nick took a couple of seconds for his heart rate to go down. He stood up straight and fixed his clothes. He might have to deal with the abuse but at least he won't look bad whilst doing it. He took a look at the parking ticket and when he did his eyes nearly popped right outta his head. The ram had written him am almost $100 ticket. Nick shut his eyes for a minute and calmed himself. It was nearly 2pm and he already was done with the day. "Not even at work yet" Nick grumbled to himself.

Nick got into his car and opened the glove box. He took out a small emergency bottle of numbing cream and reapplied it to his neck. He disliked this city with its BS rules and its BS people who abuse them. He took one look at him self in the rear-view mirror...

"The law is the law."

Nick started the car.

From BHX to QTN. Delayed flights, smelly feet, no sleep and winning a dance competition all in 38 hours...

It all began on 3rd March 2017. The run up to this day, being my first day of my world travelling experience, I have consumed more than enough beer, prosecco, wine and jagerbombs to stock the nearest bar. I didn’t realise actually how many people I had out of sight that I was surrounded by in my life until it was time to say bye. Four alcohol fuelled goodbye sessions later and I wake up still unpacked, not so much as a pair of socks. Not sure whether it just hadn’t sunk in that i’m not just popping overseas for a short vacation to return to normal life, it was in fact leaving home indefinitely, even better starting off as far as New Zealand. I quit my job that I was progressing well in and enjoyed, especially the team I worked with but it wasn’t enough. There was an itch I need to scratch, and now i’m doing it. A cheeky pic of one of the alcohol infused nights with my favourite boys and my mom…

Of course, knowing that everything was all going to plan, I had managed to finish packing in plenty of time, confident that everything had been sorted and i was organised for the 28 hour, 3 flight journey that I was about to endure, I knew something was bound to go wrong. Passport check. Flight itinerary check. Baggage check. Money check. What else could I need? Just to clear up some things I decided to check my emails to the find that my second flight which flew from Dubai to Sydney had been delayed and that I would now be stopping over for 13 hours instead of 2 hour changeover also arriving in Sydney AFTER my connecting flight leaves… why that flight wasn’t rescheduled too is beyond me o.0

Anyway £89 later, and Emirates have put me back on my original flights after I questioned this many times before confirming and the fact I had to pay to change my flight back to it’s original schedule is BEYOND ME. However £89 was a price I was prepared to pay to return back to my overly chilled state of mind.

Finally arriving at the airport with Mom and Dad, Check-in took literally 2 minutes, if that - so I was able to spend the next hour with my parents for some food and chill time before going through security. I’ve done it a fair few times previously so I knew I wasn’t rushed for time. Once it was time to say goodbye I noticed my Dad a little teary eyed and my Mom not really sure how to say bye as she has already had to do it so many times with both me and my sister but at least at these times she knew when she would next see us again.

Past security - all fine. Quick smoke break and then off to my gate to board my flight. It’s still not sinking in. I don’t feel anything other than, do I have my passport and, I hope they have a charger point.

I have never flown via Emirates before so I was surprised to see how huge it was inside, so huge the plane needed two entrances to get passengers on board. I found myself next to a middle aged couple who kept offering me sweets, they probably were being kind as I was alone and look about 5 years old - especially sporting some joggers and a flat peak cap HA. The first meal arrived and as someone who hates cheese, I was greeted with what could only be described as my worst nightmare and it was a good job I had a share bag of Doritos on me.

Cheese everything. Oh I suppose they chucked in a few prawns but even that had feta mixed in it :/

So roughly 7 hours later I land in the beautiful Dubai. So many people have explained how huge this airport is to me and now i’m left feeling a little disappointed. Leading up to my connecting flight out of Dubai I spent 2 hours standing at a Qantas desk as just as I was previously notified, my flight was delayed by 13 hours. Now i’m standing there trying to explain the little debacle and the cost of £89 I had before I even left Birmingham, UK and now i’m being told I’m being flown out to Brisbane, Australia instead of Sydney to follow a flight to Auckland, New Zealand and then another out to finally arrive in Queenstown. My only concern at this point was whether I will be landing the same day as scheduled or not as Sarah and Carly would be waiting for me to arrive in the next 20 hours.

Completely stressed out and exhausted from the previous week partying and lack of sleep since the morning of my first flight I decide to hunt out the smoking area. This is what I found…

A bloody indoor smoking area with absolutely no ventilation whatsoever. It was a complete hot box, I was already sweating my tits off from running around looking for said smoking area and I am greeted with a huge cloudy stench of a room that can only be related to someones Grandma’s living room. I smoke an electronic cigarette so to me this isn’t pleasant at all when me vaping gives off nothing but a mentholly hint of blackcurrant.

The journey goes on. I board my second flight heading to Brisbane, Australia where I have been seated on an isle seat in the middle of the plane next to 3 other 20 something women. Immediate thoughts were, great i’m gonna make some new friends and have a bit of a laugh - maybe catch a nap at some point as it was a 13 hour journey ahead. No… instead the plane in general was SILENT, nobody was misbehaving, nobody was getting drunk and absolutely nobody interacted with anyone. Now I mean i’ve only ever been on holidays with friends as an adult and I can’t remember any of my flights due to too much alcohol so this was a bizzare experience for me. Anyway, I take the opportunity to enjoy the quiet and try to get some sleep. Putting my head down on the pillow provided by Emirates I close my eyes until suddenly my nose starts twitching and is greeted by an awful cheesy smell. I’m thinking oh here we go again, cheese for breakfast. What is it with Emirates and their obsession with cheese?? No I was wrong, in fact it was the girl next to me - her pongin’ feet had escaped the trainers she had probably been suffocating them in for the god knows how many hours, to be honest it smelt like days….

Put your fucking feet back in bab. Although I was a little grumpy at my journey gaining an extra flight - I wasn’t pissed off enough to tell this girl to sort her wiffy feet out. 13 hours later and the aroma became somewhat bearable. I was living in mature cheddar feet odour.

Brisbane was boiling hot - it was so humid, my hair was straight when I left the plane… 5 minutes in the airport and I looked like Monica off Friends when she went on holiday and had to get it braided to tame it. More waiting around and a FaceTime to my best friend Matt later and I was struggling to put a sentence together even to order a bottle of water before I boarded my next flight. I was officially TIRED. Not only that but I couldn’t get my head around the fact I had left Dubai at 10am yet I arrived in Australia 7am the same day. Baffles me.

Arriving in Auckland, it was SUPER busy. People everywhere, not like the previous airports I had been to which seemed to be deserted. I collect my carry-on, pass through security and get my NZ visitor visa approved and electronically attached to my passport. Moving on from international to domestic departures I get lost! This airport is HUGE. Even following the signs is a struggle. I finally find that they have a green line painted on the floor which you follow to domestic departures - they do provide a bus but it was taking far too bloody long and I was on the verge of falling asleep. Anyway - taking a nice stroll in this beautiful weather after leaving a rainy England only 24 hours before was enjoyable.

Checked in my bags in plenty of time so i’m looking for the nearest smoking area. All those hours on flights and in airports not being able to smoke was killing me. Nicotine was needed. It wasn’t until this weekend that my addiction was tested. I was thinking to myself…does nobody in this country smoke? Smoking area was around a mile away in walking distance and I didn’t want to miss my flight.

Zonked out soon as I boarded the plane. Sarah had just messaged me to let me know that she would be joining her friend at the airport to pick me up as her friend had somebody arriving in Queenstown too. Perfect. I was so excited to see her after only having spent 2 days with her in 3 years previously it was great knowing we had a whole month ahead together on a beautiful island… never thought this day would come. After dropping off to sleep several times during the flight I awake to an announcement from the pilot that we are now approaching Queenstown and we would be touching ground soon. 10 seconds later, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

What a beautiful island. Never seen so many mountains with my own eyes and so much greenland. Like actually. Even the water being so blue, BLEW my mind. I thought I was still dreaming to be honest, I mean I hadn’t slept in 2 days.

Arrival was easy, no security to go through - the airport was pretty small and I was greeted straight away by Sarah and her friend. I was so excited but I just couldn’t bring my body to show any expression as I was that exhausted I couldn’t even speak. My first request was that we go for a smoke while we await Stef’s friend arriving from Sydney. Immediately.

What happened next is the best part of the entire weekend. Back to Sarah and Carly’s where I’d be staying for my duration in New Zealand - first thing I do is jump in the shower, I fucking stink mate. 2 days without showering and running around in 3 different countries is insanity. Anyway, getting out the shower I am greeted with Vodka and Tonics ready to go on a night out??? Yep, that’s right - no sleep and we’re going for drinks to welcome me on my first night here. It was only 8pm so I agreed it was a good idea to ride it out and go to sleep in the night time after some bevvies with the girls.

They took me to a bar called Loco’s. The music was great, it reminded me of the Nightingale back in the day when it was good - so yeah for anybody that knows of The Nightingale in Birmingham, UK - that means CHEESE. The only kind of cheese that I enjoy. Within 20-30 minutes of being in this bar I am pulled up on to the stage with 3 other people and have been entered for a competition. At first they announce the competition is ‘who can get naked the quickest’. As I was about to immediately walk off the stage - the guy shouts “Just kiddin’” then announces that it is is a dance competition. Now i’ve necked a few Jagerbombs and Desperados already at this point, mixed with a lovely bout of sleep deprivation so - i’m pretty fucking drunk. Bring it on. 2 lads were before me and decided that stripping was dancing? Who knows where they got idea but it was pretty horrific and the crowd didn’t seem to enjoy it. Next up was me. Now I can’t fucking dance - I know I can’t. But if there is one thing I can do, that’s entertain a crowd of drunken people. Slut drops happened, backwards rolls happened, chest pumping and a bit of cheeky shuffling. The more everyone was screaming, the more it encouraged me to be a knob - and I loved it. Next up was a taller girl who decided she would go for the more serious approach and do a more “seductive” kind of dance. While she had a bit of a reception it didn’t really compare - saying that we were both through to a final round which was a dance off. Of course - I took it upon myself, to take her out of serious mode and have some bloody fun. I danced with her, on her around her, and then chucked in a backwards roll… I won before I even knew. Now i’m hyped that was fun - now I can go back to my friends and carry on drinking, completely forgetting about the prize. Until, the guy approaches me and informs me that I have just won a scuba diving course at the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns, Australia. I couldn’t believe it. For any of you that don’t know - google it. It’s just incredible and i’m really pleased.

So that folks was my first weekend/night in Queenstown, New Zealand and yes it was super eventful :)
