s.coups: petty lol. he’s like “two can play this game.” and goes on an unannounced trip with his friends or something. it’s ultimately giving you what you want but he wants you to miss him as much as he misses you. you’re a little annoyed that he’s not being more mature, but you guys work it out after a while.

jeonghan: jeonghan is good at conflict resolution once he gets over his initial annoyance/fear about you not talking to him. though he often behaves like a menace, he’s a naturally fair-minded person, so he understands when you ask for some space and he comes around eventually to be impressed with you putting up a boundary. he’s still a little miffed, but he comes out of it admiring and respecting you even more.

joshua: he understands but he is saaaddd haha. he is nervous about what’s going through your mind. he ends up leaning on his friends a lot and going out drinking to distract himself. he doesn’t do anything irresponsible, but he has to work hard to restrain himself from texting you for reassurance.

jun: he struggles with this, but he will always respect your wishes. your needs are very important to him, and when he thinks more about it, it’s a wise idea to take some time to cool off. he’s sad without you for a bit but he knows that it will make the next time you see each other and talk things out much more constructive.

hoshi: stressed, miserable, hates this lol. he feels so bad about getting in a fight with you in the first place. he blames himself for making you feel this way and spends your time apart planning how to make it up to you. he respects your wishes, but he is very sad to not see you every day!!

wonwoo: he understands, and he’s honestly still lowkey pissed himself, so you both know space is a good idea. he’ll get really sad after a couple of days, though. he won’t be able to resist texting you after a few days to check in haha.

woozi: forever the suffer-in-silence type, he’ll pretend that it’s no big deal to give you your space but on the inside he’ll be really torn up. he’ll miss you like crazy and be so worried that this might mean the end for you two. it wasn’t that big of a fight, but his anxiety will amplify it in his mind. he’d never cross a boundary that you set, though. it’ll be a really nice make-up between you two just from all the relief that he will feel!

the8: thinks that taking some space after a fight is a very smart and reasonable idea, even though he will miss you. he spends his days meditating and breathing through all of his feelings so that when you see each other again you are both calm and collected. he really loves you, so he wants to give you what you need.

mingyu: mingyu is really good at giving you what you need, even when it makes him sad! poor puppy haha. he hates being away from you. he would pout and whine to his friends about your fight, and you would feel bad picturing him all sad and lonely without you. you wouldn’t go very long without talking, and he would be sooooo apologetic and affectionate when he saw you again.

DK: oh man, he hates this haha. he can’t concentrate, he’s got such low energy, he’s snapping at the other members... he’s so distracted by your request. he honors it completely, never wanting to upset you even more, but he is dramatic when you guys reunite. He gets all pouty and sad, saying you abandoned him. You find this childishness lowkey endearing though.

seungkwan: pissed lmao. What do you mean space? Fine! he’ll give you space! ends up getting competitive and ignoring you, even when you tell him that you’re ready to talk. “Well, I’m not!” he says lol. Big brat. You send him the eye-roll emoji and tell him to grow up lol. This cycle will continue for a few rounds until one of you caves and then you will have a very sweet reunion.

vernon: totally understands, he’s similar after a fight. he does think back to the fight and replays it in his head a lot while you’re taking some space from each other, which makes him end up feeling kind of nervous. He’s really glad when you text him a few days later and say that you miss him.

dino: aww, babyyyy haha. he understands but he is so saaadddd lol. He hates being apart! Especially when you might still be mad at him! There’s nothing he hates more than when you’re upset, especially if he caused it. he would be worrying the whole time you were taking space. You would know this, and wouldn’t wait too long to get in touch with him because you don’t want him to suffer suffer.

For all of the “Raph raised himself AND his brothers” fans out there I bring this train wreck of a thought (I’m a lil sleepy so sorry if it doesn’t make sense or if I repeat myself a lot-)

We do not in fact have any actual evidence that splinter was neglectful to the boys when they were little. In fact, we have the opposite.

All of these flashbacks indicate that Splinter acc spent a LOT of time with his boys-

With Mikey, he was obviously coached in his art, a smol child can’t paint like that no matter how talented they are so we can see that splinter put in the time/effort to get Mikey the supplies and teach him how to do it well. Which probably means he researched and learned it himself first, idk I just can’t really see Yoshi knowing how to paint/draw that well but that’s just a theory.

With raph and Leo, their lemonade stand is structurally sound: obviously not put together by an 8 year old, and there’s a lotta lemons lyin around that were probably a bit difficult to find, and just LOOK at their faces here they are definitely familiar with this kind of father/son shenaniganizing-also just LOOK at raph. That’s a happy child, one full of excitement and happiness, not a kid who had to grow up too fast. Also his dad is literally right there in the picture

And then with Donnie, I can’t really tell what he’s doing in the background (it’s a bomb) but what i take from that screenshot is that Donnie feels safe/loved enough to come to Splinter when he gets hurt. And Splinters taking care of him!! And, Donnie is wearing clothes, which shows that he went out and got clothes for them but also didn’t force the boys to wear them if they didn’t want to (see other screenshots lol) which also goes to show that he lets his boys choose who they wanna be and what they wanna do. At any point he could’ve forced all of them to train as ninja, at any point he could’ve made clothes mandatory, and at any point he could’ve forced them to drop things that made them happy like skating or science or art but nah. He was supportive every step of the way.

Now am I saying he was perfect? No. Am I saying he couldn’t have done anything better? No. What I’m saying is that Raph acc did not have to raise himself and his brothers. Splinter acc gave them a pretty good childhood, all things considered and it kinda makes me sad when ppl bash Rise Splinter or continue the neglectful parent trope. Again, I’m not saying he did everything right, he def could have spent more time with his kids on an individual basis and he should’ve been more present, but let’s cut him some slack bc he did a really good job at raising the boys. And he got so much better as the show progressed! But that’s another post lol. I’m also not trying to take away Raphs oldest sibling syndrome, he still def has that from being the leader and watching his bros while splinter was away-I’m just saying he didn’t have to do it ALL alone.

Look in the end he’s doing his best and his best was really good for what they had. He’s a good dad, he’s not neglectful.

Oshi no ko manga thoughts (mostly shipping shit)

I caught up to the latest chapter of Oshi no Ko last weekend! It’s all I did :)

I’ve to say Aka should probably just stick to relationship focused works and let plot take the backseat. I mean considering Kaguya sama and now OnK which was supposed to have a revenge driven and moralising about the vices of the entertainment industry theme, somehow the ship wars still overshadow everything else lol. I can feel the passion Aka has when he writes the ships and characters interacting portions as compared to the simply plot driven chapters :)

Anyway I went into the manga shipping AquaKana because of the anime, but I’ve read on various platforms the AquaAkane fans saying their ship and Akane are better developed while AquaKana and Kana remain superficial, so I was prepared to be angry and sad at the way the manga goes.

BUT LOL. I should never trust shippers’ takes ever again because Aka’s intentions are very clear right from the start. There was nothing to worry about, in fact as I’m reading all the chapters they just reinforce my KNOWING that AquaKana (even if they don’t end up together) have more romantic chemistry. IF Aqua has to end up with someone, it would have to be Kana. It’s written and set up that way from the beginning.

Right from the start, I see no “superficial” relationship between Aqua and Kana. I really think people are letting their personal feelings affect their objectivity. It’s clear how they always consider and prioritise the other (let’s exclude revenge from the picture🤡). Kana fell in love because of how Aqua always goes out of his way to help her, make her shine and regain her confidence. He always appears at the right moments when she needed someone the most, doing things in the most roundabout yet thoughtful manner that makes her feel special (which she is to him). Aqua fell in “love” (can’t be sure with this dude) because only with Kana can he feel somewhat like his old self again, untainted by revenge which is something he does not even want to seek deep down. With her, his shadows and traumas get chased away (even if just momentarily) by her “light” because their conversations, dynamics and banter just flow so well he can’t help but have fun despite being in the depths of despair just moments ago. All subsequent chapters beyond the anime adaptation just reinforces this. Even in the anime itself, the themes of being the darkness to bring out your light, and being the light to chase away your shadows is prominent for AquaKana. So yea, superficial? How??

(Of course there’s some bumpy drama in the middle but let’s look at the long term storyline/ bigger picture 🤡)

(In fact, the bumpiness was also Aqua choosing to prioritise Kana’s safety just in a very hurtful and fucking cliché manner 🤡🤡)

Kana herself is also a character you can CLEARLY tell is favoured by the writer. You can always tell whenever special care is shown towards a character (like Sasuke 🤡) and for me, I fall for such tactics. Because if the author takes so much care to write this character, isn’t it natural for there to be a special something that you as a fan would pick up on and like? That’s my take anyway, as long as they aren’t a shounen/shoujo protag lol. From how other characters like Akane idolises her, to Aqua making huge sacrifices to protect her, to Mem speaking up for her, to even Ruby wanting to protect her and their friendship. In a way I can see why people would find it obnoxious especially if not enough attention is given to other characters they like. But personally, I don’t mind because I'm lucky enough to have her as a fav lmao.

It’s kinda true that Kana doesn’t receive a lot of development in later chapters, but the thing is most things took a backseat to Aqua’s revenge later on! I’ve seen so many people criticize Kana for focusing only on Aqua (which she does not), but ALL OTHER CHARACTERS ARE REVOLVING AROUND AQUA IN THE LATER CHAPTERS. Akane?? She’s even more Aqua centered. Even Ruby is, after her revenge phase! Kana is too yes, but we do also see her struggles and conflicts with her career plans. Eventually she even made the decision to quit idol work entirely to focus back on acting.

I haven’t seen this criticism much but in a way, Kana can also be deemed a damsel in the sense that she’s the only one of the main cast kept away from the revenge plot line. Aka (and thus Aqua) does not want to taint her with it. I can see how the AquaAkane shippers would find this in their favour because Akane is HIGHLY involved with Aqua’s revenge. Her relationship with Aqua is more “equal”, they’re both scheming and cunning and manipulative and highly intelligent (Akane even more so). It’s a relationship where 2 similar and intellectually compatible people are together and in many other instances I would have supported such a ship and dynamic way more than the other one.

But what’s lacking here… is how not mutual it is when it comes to romantic feelings and chemistry… In fact, I never really felt any attraction between them especially when you compare it to AquaKana. It's mostly gratefulness and maybe guilt. Throughout all of AquaAkane’s (real and fake) dating scenes, Akane was commenting how Aqua is smitten with Kana but is still trying his best to be the best boyfriend for Akane… When Aqua is with Akane, there’s always a sense of duty from him but no passion. He’s settling down for a “normal” and “happy” life in the most generic sense so he’s not just using her for revenge, but also to have a “normal” life as he can’t be near Kana (due to his traumas). She’s his second choice and she knows that but she doesn’t want to delve into why because it would be unpleasant for her. They also “understand” each other but it’s only when it comes to Aqua’s need for revenge and how Akane would go the lengths to help him achieve it. Because she accepts all of his darkness, thus he remains in darkness.

It’s only when they broke up that Akane decided she wants to save Aqua instead. But unlike Kana’s “way” by being her normal self, Akane’s gonna use manipulative tactics (like Aqua would) to steer him away from revenge. Very interesting dynamic but unfortunately just not one that’s favoured in this series.

I mean Aka once tweeted years ago that “Akane is the girl who would take you forward, but Kana is the girl who will bring you back”. Depending on personal preference, either sounds good yes? But it’s clear from Aka’s POV, he prefers the latter. Because “take you forward” in this case means diving further into revenge while “bring you back” means returning to the happy self that you were before all the trauma started. And so that was just further confirmation AquaKana was always meant to be “end game”. It's funny how the princess Saya meta about the "losing heroine" parallels Kana more than Akane (which we were led to believe). Because Saya (and Kana) was the one introduced to be the love interest, yet she got overshadowed later by Tsurugi (revenge plot and thus Akane's involvement). I don't know if its because of Akane (like Tsurugi) being popular amongst the fandom though, but the "losing heroine" term definitely applies to her here.

And now about Akane, I’ve very mixed feelings about her because I just can’t grasp her character well. She’s so different from when she was first introduced as a timid, soft spoken, hardworking genius actress. Very “majime”. Now, she’s not just a genius actress but a genius in general. A genius mastermind. I think her character is cool but also not very well-defined. I don’t think Aka wrote her very well as a character but rather she’s used to further the plot. That's why I can’t fully like her as a character but I appreciate her contributions to the storyline and various scenes. Her hype and badass moments are cool, for both her acting and intellectual prowess. If Aka likes her more, I think she has a lot of potential and would be an interesting main (as opposed to losing) heroine too. It’s just that in this case, he clearly favors Kana.

Another thing about Akane's role in the story I like is how she's THE reliable narrator. We have several instances where we can't trust what other characters are telling us (like Mem and Aqua) because they're unreliable. But when Akane says something, you KNOW its the truth and its how we should be interpreting various scenes. Just another badass moment for her lol, and how Aka uses her.

Ruby too is a very sad case. You can feel how disinterested Aka is in her character it’s not even funny. Her “development” was always based on overly convenient external factors rather than about HER. A god literally came and tell her about sensei’s death and to push her into revenge. Ichigo the director have to make an appearance to help her plan out her revenge. Nothing is really from HER. It’s all outside help. And when she found out Aqua’s true identity, she turned into an obsessed fangirl for a while...

I literally dropped out of paleo courses because the community and paleontologists in general are fucking insufferable which is so sad tbh lol. It's also ironic how you never see people at nasa or astro students whining and crying on tumblr about all the inaccurate space movies..almost as if...They're respected scientists that aren't crying over ""first world"" problems or giving a fuck if a space movie is over the top and false

you’ll see a few, but paleontologists are a bit of an outlier. Most scientists seeing inaccuracies of their field in media just laugh it off because it’s entertainment for the laymen, and while it may try to incorporate real science, it isn’t made with the intention of giving people an accurate understanding of how a black hole works because you can’t explain that level of physics in a 1.5 hour film. Nor should you try.

Paleontology is honestly one of the last fields that should have this sort of attitude because it’s a field where you could write an entire dissertation on how so and so dinosaur lived and some kid in Brazil finds a cool rock that ends up being a fossil that immediately debunks your entire theory. It is an incredibly fluid field because, much as they hate when I phrase it this way, it really does come down to guesswork based on rocks. The amount of changes that have been made to spinosaurus alone in my lifetime is insane. I’m not saying that paleontologists aren’t doing real science or trying to downplay their research because they have made incredible discoveries, but ultimately there really is only so much a fossil can tell us about these animals. A fossil can tell us a lot sure, but we will never have the full picture unless someone invents a time machine and people do actual field research on these animals in the wild. I don’t see that happening though, so there will always be changes to what was thought to be unarguable truth five years prior.

Because of the speed in which a discovery can be made, a theory come from that, a theory seem to be proven, and then said theory being soundly debunked, it would follow that the paleontology community shouldn’t really expect the general public to keep up with every paper and may be ignorant of how many feathers a microraptor had. There should be a culture of people who are very understanding of changes in the field and the fact that most people aren’t going to be immediately aware of them, and some people are just happiest drawing the previous theory, but the culture is closer to two grown adults wanting to strangle each other over how they interpret a femur.

It is, in my opinion based on my experiences with paleontologists, one of the most hostile parts of the STEM community. Physicists won’t come for you if you reference string theory inaccurately, but lord forbid you mess with the plumage of a dinosaur.

they all want zendaya to hate timothee and be uncomfortable but don’t take in their other interactions even from today. countless videos of them backstage talking and joking together. if zendaya was truly that uncomfortable with him that wouldn’t be happening. they know that which is why they ignore that content. and after almost a month of press and tim and z trying to minimize their interactions the second they do have moments people on here do this and imply real serious allegations? they’re just spreading to their followers one side. and that’s dangerous.

The maybe I was boring album came on yesterday while I was cleaning and I had to stop what I was doing and turn it off halfway through because I just couldn’t stop hearing an admission. I used to be into one direction a few years back and every time there is drama in the fandom I kind of follow it on twitter, so I just wanted to provide my perspective as someone who has been following the whole liam payne thing relatively closely. I considered posting this on my own blog but I am genuinely scared of 1d fans finding it, so here I am lol.

So about a week ago a bunch of stuff started resurfacing about him abusing his ex-fiancé a few years ago and from that a lot of fans started coming forward with their own stories about how he used to message them while they were underage or barely of age. There was also some other stuff like him attending one of niall’s concerts and being generally cringey etc., and it all spiralled from there. Obviously there were some people (women) defending him and saying that the victims were lying and just wanted attention and to destroy his (inexistent) career and blah blah blah. But I can attest to the fact that the vast majority of the fandom did believe his ex-fiancé and the rest of the victims. Like everyone genuinely turned on him (rightfully so), and started doing everything from calling out the fans that were still supporting him and writing whole threads about how we should believe women even if the accused is our favourite celebrity, to making memes and editing him out of pictures etc., which was so amazing to witness in such parasocial relationship-based fandom like one direction’s.

But then the second he dies these EXACT SAME people are now like “omg such a tragic loss he was such a kind and positive soul” or “he deserved a chance to get better and get closure” and it’s like can you all pls grow a spine??? Like just 3 days ago you were all applauding the victims for coming forward and supporting them and now you’re writing whole essays to pay tribute to their abuser/groomer and planning memorials for him all around the world. I’m not saying they can’t be sad he died, and a lot of them are saying that they’re actually mourning the past version of him that they looked up to when they were younger, which like fair enough, but it’s like everyone is erasing how awful he was because there was a time when he wasn’t that bad. Like “I know he wasn’t a good person, but he made ME happy”, which I think is SO unfair to all women he hurt and kind of reflects the overall misogyny of fandom culture.

the fact that he got thrown down the stairs 4 times LOL. jk. this is very meta but something i find really cool about jean is the way his suicides in the previous drafts are almost treated as canon suicide attempts and how it shapes his subsequent characterisation. like very genuinely i think knowing that the published version of aftg is the Only one where jean gets his happy ending makes the happy ending in question sooo much more impactful and i think it’s why i love him so much. like he did Not have plot armour but despite everything, things worked out for him anyway. god i fucking love jean

one aspect i wish more people understood about them

HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH KEVIN. i think the thing with kevin and jean is that they were both victims of riko but they both knew that kevin leaving would result in jean suffering more, and ofc kevin had a right to leave his abuser, but i also think jean has a right to be resentful about it. i think part of why kevin and jean’s relationship can’t ever fully heal is because neither of them ever knew each other before riko’s abuse and therefore neither of them can really picture a “healthy” version of each other so like if your only concept of a person is while they’re mid trauma response, that is ofc gonna paint a skewed picture. they were both caught in the cycle of abuse of being victim and later perpetrator and i think it’s kind of reductive to act like riko not being there will undo the hurt that jean and kevin actually did to each other. whew that was an essay. basically i just wish more people understood that jean and kevin can probably never be friends and their friendship only existed bc of their mutual victimhood so like as adults it isn’t natural or healthy for them to revert back to that

i 100% think jean is losing his french because of the nest and he ends up doing french classes at USC to “catch up” because he starts to realise how many things he’s forgetting. i also think he never bothers to a) become a US citizen, or b) qualify for an olympic team because, unlike kevin or neil, exy is genuinely just a career for him and in the end i think his life’s goal isn’t an olympic medal but instead finding a life and hobbies OUTSIDE of exy now that he’s finally allowed

mmm i think at some point there was definitely something More Than Platonic between kevin and jean and this was partially weaponised against them by riko, thus making the fallout of their friendship even more toxic. just a vibe i get. on a happier note i like to think that jean tries to teach jeremy french but realises that he’s actually a terrible teacher and when he taught kevin kevin had been doing a lot of the heavy lifting LMAO. i also think that while he never becomes friends with kevin again, things do lighten between them slightly after they both graduate and between riko’s death and jeremy they’re able to stay on mutually decent terms + attend each other’s weddings

Care and Feeding of Lucy Ellingson and Avery Kelly: I liked the headline but because I wrote it I gotta let you know the feeding part: Lucy gets into stuff like pepperoni sticks and sour foods and things that make you go WOAH (except garlic and onions apparently) and it’s all intense and crap but when you get down to it I think she likes sweet and savory stuff most.  Avery is a vegetarian and she can eat next to anything you could call food, now, but I think what matters is that it comes from a place of care. She likes fruity flavors and mellow stuff. If Lucy’s down and out and needs nourishment to get back in the game then a chance to have a savory home cooked meal or a sweet treat she can spend a bit enjoying would do it for her.  For Avery, just the fact that you notice she’s down and out is important and then you can hand her a sports drink or something and she’ll be up for more.

Pride— “Pride is the opposite of humility.” 

Fiona’s lifetime wish is world domination, so, yeah, lol!

She thinks of herself as basically godlike, which is the opposite of humility. Funny that it sounds like pride is considered to be the worst deadly sin, and Fiona is the only sim in my game that I’ve deliberately given the “evil” trait. She was amusingly terrible in her younger stories, but I have some future stories of her in the coming years that are a little scary.

Greed— “an inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs, especially with respect to material wealth.”

Lauren. I wasn’t sure whether to put Lauren for greed or envy. Both maybe? At first glance you might even think of her as prideful, but inside she is deeply insecure and desperate, so that’s not pride. She just always wants more. She even wants more of the things she already has. Like, she has a boyfriend who adores her, but she wants more of his attention and all of his time. Her parents take her on a vacation, and she asks why wasn’t it a more luxurious one? She doesn’t just want what everyone else has, she wants more and better than everyone else. So, greed wins for her. At the moment, she’s a spoiled only child and her parents enable her, but I am interested to see how her greed looks when she is an adult in the real world.

Wrath—. "If anger reaches the point of a deliberate desire to kill or seriously wound a neighbor, it is gravely against charity; it is a mortal sin." 

Jeremiah is the only character I’ve written so far who deliberately tried to kill someone he hated, so he takes the cake! 

Runner up: Vicky has inflicted bodily harm on a few people who angered her, and I’m pretty sure she wished Lucy dead for a hot minute. No murder on her hands quite yet though, lol!

Ingrid? Hear me out. So I was back and forth for Ingrid about whether it was lust or envy, and I settled on envy. While she doesn’t envy much in the way of possessions or material things (she’s strongly anti-capitalist in her politics), she has a very special taste for unavailable men. The way she desires these men feels like a challenge, like stealing, and that’s part of the thrill for her. She specifically desires these men because they belong to someone else. Or else she wouldn’t want them so much.

And what would she do if she actually got one? We have yet to see, because she’s still on that chase. I suspect she’d get bored and chase after a different one. Maybe we’ll find out some day.

Lust— “intense or unbridled sexual desire, however, it could also mean other forms of unbridled desire, such as for money, or power.”

Max. He owned a brothel and several nightclubs, and he had a taste for busty blondes, not excluding his wife of 20-something years. I stopped counting how many women he’d been with. But he also lusted for money and power while climbing the ladder of organized crime, which finally landed him in jail in the end. Plenty of characters enjoy a lot of sex in my stories, but Max took his lust to the extreme, and it came back to bite him in the ass.  

Runner up for lust: Pamela. I had her in mind for greed as well. Although she craved material things and ran up the charge card to maintain a lifestyle she couldn’t afford, putting her family into massive amounts of debt, I think Pamela is mostly driven by desire and the need to be desired.

Gluttony—“the overindulgence and overconsumption of anything to the point of waste”

Why can’t I think of anyone for gluttony? Even when taking it out of the context of eating.

How about Lauren, maybe? She doesn’t necessarily overeat, but the wiki talks about wastefulness of expensive or precious things, and I could totally see Lauren doing that. Carelessness. Like, she’d take a bite from an expensive meal and throw the rest away while someone else starves, and she’d think nothing of it.

Sloth— “sloth is a sin of omitting responsibilities”

Ian is my best pick for sloth. He’s quite happy to be a lazy stoner, leeching off his parents, sisters, and girlfriend. And he’s not too motivated to change that state of being. He is/was a bit academic throughout his schooling, but he also doesn’t seem motivated to put his smarts to good use. If he lived in ancient history, he would have made a great drunk philosopher. But in modern times people gotta have a paycheck and mortgage and pay taxes. Yuck.

Gwen needs to be on this list somewhere, but I had someone else in mind already for each item. She’s prideful, but not as evil as Fiona. Wrathful, but not as deadly as Jeremiah (I don’t think…). Greedy, but she’s not as insufferable as Lauren. Lustful, for sure. Envious, probably. She’s like a mixed bag of deadly sins, lol!

hello nero my beloved soulmate!! <33

i’m back and i am already suffering from severe PHD (post holiday depression, i decided it is a thing). my friend left last night and i hate this. it’s so unfair that we live in two different countries and we can’t see each other as much as we would like to. i’ll probably see her soon, i should have another week off in august and we were talking about me visiting her this time so hopefully i’ll be able to go.

anyway, on to the trip!! it was so cool!! i mean the first week we stayed in tuscany, we went around florence and a few other cities around here, and we got tattoos!!! i told you about this already but they are so cute!!! our little irish dinosaurs (they’re irish because we met in ireland <3 they’re named saoirse and niamh).

then for the second week we went to rome!! oh it was so nice!! we found the perfect weather. it was always sunny and warm enough to go around in shorts, but never too hot not to be able to explore. we went for the usual places: the colosseum, the pantheon, the squares and fountains, all that. but also we accidentally found ourselves into the roman forums and they were amazing!! i’d never been in them, only seen them from above, but they are so big, you can see a whole city. but the highlight was ostia antica. it was this archeological site near rome and it’s so quiet because not may people know it. it’s an 84 acres site where you can literally walk into houses and shops and temples and theaters from the roman period. and it’s amazing because usually rome is very protected, like there are fences and barriers everywhere, you can’t get too close to a lot of stuff, but in ostia antica we could literally touch the ruins, walk through them and find our way back in a maze of doors and corridors. it was so cool!!! also that’s where i found the cats!! they were so cute and friendly 🥺

last thing before i close this letter. the food!!! oh the food. we found this little restaurant on the very first night, which was actually so close to the trevi fountain, and it was so cheap and good (very rare combination to find in the middle of rome). they had some of the best spaghetti i’ve ever tried. also we kept going back there in the next days so they recognized us and they were so nice because they offered us appetizers and wine and they always remembered that we liked to order three plates of pasta to share between the two of us. they were so nice!!

i really needed this trip. i needed to be off work for a few weeks and just disconnect from all the drama and stress. and the good food and wine helped a lot with that lol. but seriously i’m so happy, it was an amazing trip and it was so good to see my friend again after so long <3

but enough about me now!! how are you doing nero?? what have you been doing these last two weeks??

also, about our last letter, i am very happy that you are following my orders and planning a very relaxing trip :) you deserve to not even think about uni when you’re on a trip. and it’s gonna be so fun to dance to that kind of music!! can’t wait to hear all about that one!!

i’ve been doing alright!! i had my trip to sydney and my twice concert, and it was so much more fun than i thought it would be!!! so i took my best friend and a family friend of mine, and my manager from work came too, but we all booked our concert tickets together so it was me and my friends, my manager and her brother and his partner. (don’t even ask me how stressful buying six tickets was)

the japanese place opened up again, and we were staying somewhere even closer to it. we basically walked everywhere, because the train station is in the shopping centre next to the japanese place, and that was only ten minutes away. so i took my friends to eat more ramen than we could see and we shared a bottle of soju (my friends are lightweights and it was VERY funny to watch. i had to finish the bottle off though)

and then we did lots of activities on the tuesday before the concert and we went to that album shop and book shop again and i spent way too much money, cece’s orders 😌😌 i spent so much money in the album shop they gave me a free album and preorder benefit photocards (which are really rare!!) and i had to show my id in the book store because i bought a level one restricted novel (actually banned in my state, but my professors made me too curious), which was quite funny

the twice concert was so fun, literally everyone in the audience were dancing and singing, and i was gay panicking and it was wonderful! each of the members of twice also had a solo performance and they did so well! one of them, momo, had this dance where she HAD A POLE?!?!? AND SHE HAD NEVER POLE DANCED BEFORE?? she was so good, i will save your eardrums by not sending the video i took 😌

anyways, here’s the photo they posted at the end!! we are in the centre and slightly to the right <3 (i’m sure you’ll see me 😂😂)

and then we actually got the chance to go to the harbour bridge and the opera house, which are in the same place, so we didn’t waste too much time there! and then we went to this room of claw machines near the eateries and i managed to win two things!! (one of them i spent way too much money to grab out, but he looked so lonely and i had to get my son out 😭😭) and then we had gelato mochi, which my friend found. so they get a scoop of ice cream and wrap it with mochi! we all got two, because none of us can make a decision and it really was a good end to the trip 🥺

other than that, i am running a little behind on uni, but i decided to use some of my leave and take the week off work. i’m just going to smash out the essays i have due (and overdue) and i’ll probably be able to rest better during the big exam session 😌

The new ‘strategy’ is depressing, but I’d have accepted it for lack of anything better — if only the new desktop version wasn't there. The new desktop interface is unusable and anxiety-inducing, and I don’t think we’re getting the old one back. I’d be happy to be wrong about it, but.

For now, I open tumblr and I want to leave right away. It’s unusable for a multitude of reasons. It looks like twitter. So the question is ... is there anywhere left to go? To go, as in, one’s populated social media of choice. People from twitter and reddit did a go to here. Tumblr was the last. Everything else had already succumbed to capitalism and The Algorithm, but even if I looked past The Algorithm for a second; facebook sucks, and the Parents are there and they’re eldritch; I avoid instagram like the plague, among other things I prefer to eat my food asap and I don’t want to share any pictures publicly; twitter is nothing but pointless hatred, one can’t be social there without suicidal thoughts creeping up in minutes; mastodon is a wasteland etc etc. Where do I go where it’s okay, where there’s a lot of people, where I don’t need to show my real face or real name, where an app is not a must, where the things that people share are in chronological order, where there’s no pressure and no clout-chaser-induced crap..?

Popularity is conformity, and I thought that tumblr existed specifically for people who aren’t interested in conforming, yet now there’s this ‘update’ that directly states: psych, lol!

You might say, go be social on discord, but I’m fandomless. I’m fandomless, but I do want to see what my mutuals are obsessing over and be like ‘wohoo! good for you!’ on occasion. I want to have mutuals, so to speak. I want to have the means to find more mutuals. I want to be social. With people who live on the other side of the world, and I can check how they’re doing and how their various niche interests are doing. And I want to be able to poke random strangers with reblogs and ask ‘r u fren?’. I want to post my sad little jokes too. I want to be able to curate my own experiences. I also want to have something to just scroll and read and poke hearts on, yes — when I have no energy and brainpower to read books (although I read at every opportunity). But uuh, do you read books in doctors’ waiting rooms or under IVs? I doubt it. I bet you, too, read through odd tags of odd things. So where do I go?

If your answer is ‘outside lol’ — joke’s on you, I go there every day, and not even/only for vexing things, but just on walks and for game nights and date nights and falafel. We go on aimless walks every day. Atm we live in a very walkable country with a lot of nice touchable grass, and that’s not what I mean. Yes, I get that it’s healthy and all, but I am not exactly a healthy or particularly outgoing person, and outside is definitely not somewhere I can go to poke random people who are happy about being poked, or to potentially befriend someone from the other side of the world— and I want to. So where do I go?

I’m pretty sure that it’s a rhetorical question, and that the only place left for me to go is gooseberry grove (which is code for ‘my head’).

The internet has gotten so lonely.

Happy New Year to you!! ✨ Here’s to another year of loving our favorite hot men from the 70s and 80s lol. Speaking of hot men, I have listened to some of 10cc’s music and so far the songs I really like The Film of My Love, Speed Kills, and Headline Hustler. Their sound mostly reminds me of The Rolling Stones and The Who but they still manage bring new stuff to the table I think. I actually think the singer sounds a lot like Ringo Starr’s singing voice but that may just be me. So I read their bio on Spotify, too. So that Graham guy is quite the songwriter and wrote for other bands like The Yardbirds and The Hollies? I thought that was cool. By the way, I find Graham pretty attractive, too. Looks like they had one or two songs that became hits in America but that’s about it. From my understanding, being successful in America was like the holy grail for uk bands at this time. It they achieved that goal, they were on a very good track. When The Kinks got banned in the US, that seemed to hurt them a lot. Sadly for 10cc they didn’t stay popular in the US for long. But still, seven years is not bad at all. I know of bands that had much shorter life spans. It looks like they had a good run regardless. By the way, I’m curious about how you discovered them! Also, I’ve actually reblogged from you before the Secret Santa game! It was a post with two black and white pictures of Ray Davies. He’s just so..😍 I couldn’t resist. Anyways, talk to you later!

everything alright with your new year so far? and hey, here’s to another year of us loving these sensational 60s/70s men. they just don’t make them like they used to, do they?

while i may ogle at other 70s guys here and there, i cannot deny just how insufferable i am about that Eric Stewart. he is just..*chefs kiss* bellissimo!! the cherry on top. the icing on the cake. an absolute adonis. he just does it for me. no one like him really. and given that his birthday is on January 20th, and he is my soulmate sign aquarius, the gemini in me can’t help but make such a big fuss him around this time of year. a beautiful man, that Eric. i love him with all my heart.

Eric does have a Ringo way about him, doesn’t he? he is after all from Manchester, just across from The Beatles’ neck of the woods Liverpool. i really do feel like guys from Manchester and Liverpool have a certain charm about them that’s just so captivating, i can’t quite put my finger on it. anyway, i think part of the reason why i’m so attached to Eric is the fact that i feel like he is all four Beatles combined. he possesses Paul’s charming and cuddly persona, John’s wit and sensitive attitude, George’s humbleness and Ringo’s happy go lucky mindset. he is the entire package, what more could a girl want?

oh and don’t get me started on Graham. he is so charming, even in real life. i’ve seen him a couple times in concert and my goodness, he really has kept up his good looks all these years. good on him. what a talented fella too! after all, he did get his start on music arranging songs for those early British Invasion bands you mentioned. i think it’s brilliant, all the work he’s done.

it is such a pity that 10cc never made it in America. i’m sorry to say it but i blame it on the recording company they were signed into, who basically ended up gouging the poor boys for their money and did little to promote them in America. it has been said that they could’ve been much bigger, and be talked and raved about in the same way as The Beatles or Pink Floyd. but the management was the culprit for their demise. so sad, really but either way they were and still are such a brilliant little band.

and i am so happy you like all those 10cc tracks you mentioned, as they are my personal favourites as well! i recommend giving their Sheet Music and Deceptive Bends album a listen when you can. they won’t disappoint!

and my oh my, that Ray Davies..he turns heads doesn’t he? another beautiful guy along with his brother, David. as of recent though, i’ve been crushing heavily on Dave. i love how cheeky he is. little bugger, that one.
