sometimes it feels like lewis has a degree of distance from the rest of the grid that makes it hard to connect to him (i, a newer fan, took a while to even get a proper sense of his vibes). he’s such a legend and icon in the sport there’s always a little bit of separation i think — maybe subconsciously for some of the older drivers, but i think it’s more prevalent in the younger drivers because so many of them actually idolized him for years and are suddenly racing with him. max may be getting there but he also grew up with most of the grid, and he has his funky little hobbies (twitch streaming sim races) that give fans a glimpse of him casually. i’m not sure why lewis doesn’t participate in grill the grid/f1 videos but when you think about it that’s how a lot of people get some more casual impressions of the drivers they don’t follow as closely (or at all), and then he’s not there. there’s just this air of legendary about him so when you see him standing alone it seems intentional, in a way. he is always standing on his own as a leader in many (metaphorical) ways so i can understand why the drivers might see him minding his business during the parade and think he wants the space.
anyway all this to say there is a special kind of happiness in seeing charles decide to break through the wall of godliness to keep lewis company and bring him back to their level. lewis seems so much more engaged and lively and mortal when he’s happy chatting with the other drivers and being a bit mischievous and it’s like oh, i’m finally seeing the lewis hamilton he was before the myth and fame and weight of leadership. i think he’s really going to seem like a whole new person next season with charles and ferrari for those of us who didn’t know that lewis and i really really like the idea of getting to meet him ❤️

Fun Fact! House is frequently referenced to enjoy many forms of physical activity and sports, as far as being a lacrosse player in high school and a cheerleader in college. Which means he was very mobile and physically fit pre-infarction. This also means his most healthy ways to air out his frustrations mentally and emotionally were basically ripped out of his hands forever!!!

Thinking about the Don Suave scene and what it means in terms of LGBTQ+ representation because my brain does nothing if not torment me with random topics to ramble about on the regular.
Anyway, I just wanted to ramble about why I like the scene but to get it out of the way - the scene can very easily be interpreted in so many different ways, and all of them are valid. I personally see it as Leo having at least some attraction to a man. And the following is an explanation of my own interpretation and thoughts on it and what it means especially for Leo’s portrayal in the grand scheme of things.
Long-winded interpretation under the cut!
Now, to start with, it’s important to me that in the scene Leo looks at Don Suave in the very beginning and then for the entirety of the rest of the time the man is on screen, Leo’s eyes are closed. Yet, in the end, he is still visibly enamored with Don Suave, happily cuddling up to him as he’s being carried away.
You can very easily interpret this as Leo being spellbound and that’s honestly super valid and I believe he likely was at least somewhat in the beginning, but considering how fast he looked away and how he never looked again, I personally think it makes more sense to read it as Leo just finding the man attractive, at least somewhat. (For the record, I personally headcanon Rise Leo as bisexual with a heavy preference for men, but I want to be blunt when I say that any interpretation is valid. Literally any. Ace, pan, gay, bi, none of the above or a mixture of something new literally all of it is more than okay and fair. Hell you could even interpret this entire scene as more romantic attraction than physical and it would still work. Anything goes!! Don’t bother people, guys, really.)
The main reason I take this scene to be at the very least LGBTQ+ adjacent isn’t just because of how it’s portrayed, but because of who Leonardo is. Not in terms of Rise of the TMNT, but in terms of the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™️ franchise.
Leo’s a character who, while changing with each iteration, has still at his core been around for decades upon decades as “the blue one”. One fourth of the team. He’s the one most are going to look at as the Leader, and oftentimes he is the one closest to having the title of Main Character. Not to say the others aren’t just as important, but Leo’s presence in the A plots of basically all TMNT media is often something very main character-esque.
And that’s very, very important to note. Here we have a Main Character of a prolific and decades long-running franchise distributed by a children’s television network. You can play around with his and his brothers’ characters all you like, but there is always going to be challenges to dodge around, especially since this was still in 2018-2019.
For example, you can play around with their designs so long as they’re color coded turtles, but their sexualities? Now that’s tricky.
“But what about Hypno and Warren?” Not main characters and also they’re Rise originals. They have a lot more room to play around with than a character like Leo does. But even talking about main characters in the franchise, you could arguably have an easier time playing around with Donnie or Mikey’s sexualities than Leo or even Raph, as (unfortunately) the former two tend to get more B plots, so they’d likely have had a little more leeway (still not a lot though.)
So, where does this leave us?
It leaves us in a place where outright stating and/or showing undeniable proof of Leo’s attraction to men is very, very difficult. So, workarounds!
Workarounds like the entire Don Suave situation.
To be honest, as left up to interpretation and lowkey and deniable as it is, this whole scene means a lot to me because of who Leo is as a character. It’s just nice when we get so see even the bare bones of representation with characters that have been such a large part of pop culture for decades, y’know? Even if more would be so much nicer, this is better than I thought we’d ever get for these boys.
And, again, literally nothing I’ve said is the only way to interpret it, I’m more than happy when people interpret media on their own honestly, it’s just something I’ve been thinking of lately and I was wondering if others felt the same way.
Whatever you think when you interpret this scene or Rise Leo as a whole, I just thought this would be interesting to think about, even if it was ramble-y, haha.

AU where Bruce is dead, Jason is Batman, and Tim becomes his Robin. Joker kidnaps Tim and makes him Joker Junior and after Tim kills Joker, before sumcombing to his injuries of the torture.Jason vows no more partners. No More Robins.
Then gets transported to a Good Dad Fanon Bruce and Batfam universe (where Jason has stayed dead) He’s always avoiding Tim. He’s hanging out with Dick and Damian and Duke and Steph, but when Tim shows up, he clams up.
Tim confronts him, Jason breaks down. Because if he got used to having Tim around, inevitably when he gets back to his home universe, he’s going to feel the loss all over again.
There is no Damian or Duke in his universe to miss. Dick is still swinging on ropes with his parents, and Steph is a normal college girl.
All Jason sees when he looks at this Tim, is what he failed to save.

it’s interesting to see how taylor has always imagined her ideal partner as being courageous (“headfirst fearless,” “this love is brave and wild,” “you walked in wearing a football helmet and said okay let’s talk,” “don’t blame me love made me crazy if it doesn’t you ain’t doing it right,” “standing broad-shouldered next to her was a love that was really something….”) and how i think at first she thought that joe simply being willing to be with her felt courageous but then as she grew she realized that it wasn’t enough of that feeling because he wasn’t always standing broad-shouldered next to her, only when it was convenient for him. and that’s not fearless. that’s just doing what’s easiest

so many people can’t conceptualise emotional neglect as anything other than ‘my parents were cold and distant and never talked about feelings with me’, and this, while being just a general awful problem of course, is also what leads to so much john winchester mischaracterisation. in this essay i will
#like. it can also be#a parent who you’re close to who is actually extremely emotional and explosive and reactive#and via forcing you to look after their emotional needs and spilling their problems all over you also teaches you that your feelings qrs re#unimportant and that you’re unimportant. even if they dont necessarily mean to or they dont with their words!#anyway i’m sure john winchester was a mix of the two#but my point is like. God this applies to so much actually#there’s this incredibly pervasive idea that damaging parenting has to be like. i dunno. distant somehow#your parents don’t love you. you’re not close to your parents#and obviously that IS damaging but it’s not the only way a parental relationship can be damaging… far from it#and a lot of what makes john so interesting to me is he DOES love the boys. of course he does#and he isn’t some hyper repressed incredibly macho figure either like some people characterise him#he’s warm with the boys when we see him in s1. sure he turns all his emotions into anger but it’s always very clear he Has deep emotions.#everything he does is powered by ‘love’#(theoretically).#like. hes obviously close with dean. he even has strong ideals about parenting when he starts off (see 70s era john disgusted at how future#john actually raised them lol).#and he’s still extremely abusive and neglectful and damages sam and dean soooo much. like. all that can coexist#and it’s such a disservice to flatten his character and pretend it doesn’t#plus it just offends me. like come on.#idk i guess a lot of people like to project their own bad experiences onto john and it’s not like i’m saying they shouldn’t do that#but. characterisation wise#he’s awful in a very specific way#spn#john winchester#oliver talks

Red West: “I knew the guys who were hassling Elvis, they were on the football squad. The guys who were giving Elvis a hard time were not really bad guys, just a bit noisy and stuff. But when I saw Elvis’s face, it just triggered something inside of me. I mean we were just kids and they weren't gonna kill him or anything, but there was that look of real fear on his face. He was looking like a frightened little animal and I just couldn’t stand seeing it. When you're very poor, you tend to let everyone look after their own troubles, but that face of Elvis’s, I can see it to this day. And I saw that face like that many times later, and it always had the same effect on me. It just churned something up inside of me. It’s a child’s face and it asks for help… and somehow, you know, that year, 1952, put me in a role of Elvis’s protector. It’s a job I took on readily and I had a lot of fun doing it and a lot of heartbreak. Sometimes he was like a damned spoiled child who needed to be spanked, and other times he was just so helpless and needing of help it was like he was your own child. And even now, I still feel it’s my job, even if I never see him again…”
excerpt from “Elvis: What Happened?” By Red and Sonny West, along with Dave Hebler

Ppl will say fanon v canon doesn’t matter and it’s all jokes and I’m sooooo close to going sure sometimes and then I remember y’all removed a major role of one of the if not THEE most prominent black character in Bruce’s story who was created a whole decade before tim and gave it to tim based off a run where he literally handed the role back! Like IN THE COMIC Tim was CEO in name only and handed it back to Lucius relieved when he didn’t need to front anymore like.
#also if I said y’all took a lot of what tam does and her character traits and handed them off to tim….#like from that run#it’s crazy bc I always say that’s like the only comic tim stans read#but if that’s true the racism isn’t even covert anymore el oh el#tim Drake#it’s actually about him this time#I’m not gonna clog Lucius or tam tags any further tho#oh and on the tam note#her quick thing and sheer insanity was seen as naivety from tim even tho it saved his ass quite a few times#mainly that Vicki vale shit#which is hung up on LUCIUS’ wall#bc it’s HIS office#bc HE is the CEO.#I think it’s so funny how Bruce quest was like unreliable narrator knows their unreliable and thinks that knowledge means that everything t#they say is true bc they acknowledge that maybe they’re not thinking healthily#which is so fucking fun#but y’all go ‘yesss this is Tim!’#like no! it’s not! and tim knows that! and he’s too high strung to be pissed or scared about it!#AND THAT IS WHAT SHOULDVE HAPPENED NEXT#IK cómics don’t like to acknowledge that kinda trauma and shit#but something going deep into Tim’s mental state at the time and how he was impacted in daily and personal life#(bc instead of black characters being written out and ignored I’m choosing to believe tam distanced herself bc he was such a Dick)#Like that would’ve been craaaazy#like even tims lack luster reaction at seeing Kon in Paris after he was DEAD#And then later having the emotional reaction like he really kept that shit on the backburner#but noooo he’s so badass and a killer 🥺#anyways justice for the fox family#at least for Lucius like he and cyborg are in the same boat for me#where they’ve been around for so long and have been so important (cyborg on a waaaay wider scale)#that the fact that they don’t get their flowers in favor of making shit up for tim is SICK

her as a parent is so — it’s always on my brain because like the way she talks to her children is very ? she gives them the respect she would give an adult from a very early age. she encourages them to speak to her, to speak their mind without a filter attached to it so they can address it whether it is something they want to be allowed to do or something they want to talk about in general or something they need help doing. like they’re children, they’re going to make mistakes and have feelings and be unruly at times but if it’s something that can fixed ? If they get increasingly uncomfortable in a certain place at a certain event, and want to act out from that she’d much rather they tell her they’re uncomfortable or upset and they need to leave, so they can ? handle it. she doesn’t want them to feel like they need to act out to fix a fixable situation with an easy solution.
she expects them to expend the entirety of their effort when it comes to tasks, she expends them to at least try, but she doesn’t expect 100% success, because they’re at an age where mistakes should happen and should be encouraged so they don’t make them again when they matter as adults. she’s a very methodical instructor who took a direct hand when it came to their education as kids and into their teenage years; she would have been the one teaching high valyrian from an early age - not because they necessarily needed to know it to govern, but because it was apart of her culture that she was eager to share with them. she would’ve encouraged them to take up a hobby or something that had nothing to do with weapons training or with their future positions. they were sent to squire for six months on end at the ages of 12-13 — jacaerys in particular was sent to squire in the vale of arryn under her cousin the lady jeyne arryn ( no jace writer is obligated to adhere to this headcanon )
she’s also a very affectionate parent, very big on words of affirmation and on physical affection like she displays her pride and love and caring in very ? overt ways. when they have small little successes to the bigger ones she acknowledges them all. she gives them small tasks and gives them little rewards whenever it’s done correctly whether it be sweets or staying up that extra hour. or taking them out to the shoreline to play or taking them to aegon’s garden to decompress and to play along the rows of cranberry bushes and flowers. she’s kissing their heads and holding their hands and hugging them and promising them they did VERY well actually and that’s all that matters. correcting what they did wrong and showing how to do it correctly. she never really raises her voice at them and never really gets angry at them like it’s very ? she tells them what to do and she expects them to at least try and to come to her directly in regards to any issues they might have with it instead of disobeying her outright.

eddie diaz’s growth is actually something that can be so personal. he went from being scared he’ll never feel normal again, from saying he doesn’t deserve happiness or forgiveness, to smiling at himself in the mirror, laughing and practically squealing in joy, and kicking his feet while dancing around his house. to being happy with who he sees staring back. and i’m so proud of him.
