The real problem with melissa sexuality discourse is people are saying 2 different things

As far as I’ve now been made aware of, when people are saying they headcanon her as a lesbian they’re saying they see elements of themselves in her, they interpret her as a lesbian.

When I say she’s bi I’m saying that’s what the show is writing towards, based on the evidence of lines she’s said the basic implication is liking men and women. Realistically the way she will be queer is to be bi.

Surely you can see how that’s the case because I’m not talking about individuals interpretation, I’m talking about the basic fact of what we see in the show, without interpretation based on individual experience.

If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck it’s probably a duck.

And this is where this argument seems to be stemming from. I see ‘she is a lesbian’ and am meant to read that as ‘based on my own experiences which I see in her I see her as a lesbian but would be happy for her to be bi too’, but when I say ‘she is bi’ I mean literally purely based on the lines she says in the show that is bisexual behaviour.

I’m not sure how I’m meant to imply all that, yet people can easily apply ‘oh it’s someone hating lesbians’.

Disagreeing is not lesbiphobic. If it was does that make the lesbians who share this perspective lesbiphobic? Because how does that work?

The reason it bothers me is nothing to do with lesbianism and that’s a really strange take. It bothers me because it ignores half of what we see (actually more than half). It bothers me when people say she’s straight, but less so because that doesn’t change the interpretation of what’s being written. Melissa, as lisa describes her, an angry slut (not to say lesbians can’t be sluts, but we know she sleeps with men, and here the implication is she enjoys it), not liking men would fundamentally change who she is. Comphet while also having her seeming awareness of liking women plays into the stereotype of bisexuality being a step on the way to lesbianism.

Acting like someone hates lesbians and lesbianism because they see a character differently from you is a huge misinterpretation of discourse that’s really based on people saying 2 different things.

So often tv characters, especially in sitcoms, have throw away lines like this implying bisexuality but then it’s either only confirmed by actors after the fact or never confirmed.

So why would I not ride for her to be openly bi?

Twenty something year old Danny becomes a preschool teacher to a class of young meta and liminal kids, he helps to keep the kids calm when they discover their abilities and is genuinely one of the better teachers at the school. He's also a part time member of the Justice League. He's in the middle of a meeting when he gets a call from a freaked out substitute teacher saying one of the kids is stuck halfway through the wall and doesn't know what to do. Danny excuses himself and explains that one of his kids is having a small problem and he'll be right back and then leaves not realizing the chaos he left behind in his wake as the Justice League believe that Phantom has multiple kids and is a single father

I love teacher!Danny AUs, they are always so wacky and fun. And this seems so sweet! I love misunderstanding plots where the misunderstanding is something super simple. And plots where characters think someone is talking about their children children, when they’re actually talking about their students or something. Basically I love this prompt <3

So the JL know Danny is Phantom and stuff, probably are also away that’s he’s a ghost. Danny says that one of his kids is stuck in a wall at school and the substitute teacher is freaking out, so he’s gotta go real quick. Once he leaves one of the members(I’m thinking Flash because…I like him)is like, “Soo…wanna bet on how many kids he has? I’m guessing three-no-four.” The meeting quickly devolves into this conversation, until Batman or someone else steers it back.

After the meeting, rumors spread through the JL about Danny’s kids, and many bets are made. It takes them a while for everyone to figure out that Danny is just a teacher and not a father. Some figure it out faster than others though, but they think it would be funnier if they go along with the father Danny idea. Batman definitely knows what’s going on, he should know what Danny’s job is at the very least. He does consider the fact that maybe he might be a father, but that thought is short lived.

Look, I think we can all agree with the fact that abuse thrives in darkness. So explain to me why a 21 year old used the word pdfile and pronounce it exactly like that when we were talking about child abuse. Censoring the word does nothing. It literally took me several seconds to understand what she was saying. Clear communication is vital when someone comes or tries to come forward. It can be the difference between them feeling seen and heard and refusing to divulge anything. When you censor words like that in real life there can be consequences because you are obscuring information and hurting communication. Use the proper words. And if they make you so uncomfortable you can’t use them then maybe you shouldn’t be having a conversation that requires use of those words.

i’ve been seeing some talk about how “this propaganda is so bad” and “they must think everyone’s too stupid to think” and stuff like that, and i just wanna say be careful not too internalize these thoughts so much.

yes, sometimes propaganda is easy to spot. there are things you see and immediately go “what the fuck, who’d believe that” and that’s GOOD. that means you’re noticing tactics, you’re questioning things, you’re practicing critical thinking.

but not all propaganda is so easy to spot. sometimes propaganda really is good, by which i mean skillfully done. convincing, even when you’ve practiced spotting propaganda. and that can be really dangerous!!

so, really what i’m saying is don’t get passive about propaganda. remember that, very often, it isn’t obvious. you need to do some digging, some thinking, and that thinking is WORTH IT. so worth it! you’re gonna find things you didn’t notice at first, and now you can point those things out. you can start dialogue about them.

keep pointing out the propaganda you do see. talk about it. be upset about it. recognize that you can be misled and that there’s no shame in correcting yourself. please keep thinking, analyzing, questioning, discussing, etc etc

remember that phrase “you are not immune to propaganda”? it will always, always ring true.

idk if this is accurate but i’ve felt like in previous seasons riz & gorgug have been one of the inter-bad kids dynamics we’ve seen the least of & this season has been so great in that aspect. gorgug having helped make some of riz’s magic gear. riz helping gorgug with his studies. the shared birthday party. gorgug’s gift to riz being something he himself made to protect riz. riz’s gift to gorgug being something he illegally grabbed to protect gorgug. gorgug who utilizes rage to put his body on the line for his friends & riz who will take deep levels of mental stress for his friends. even though it was within the context of a joke, riz calling gorgug an “absolute sweetie.” like yea they might not be in a band together or both part of a presidential campaign team or owlbears teammates, but they’d go to war for each other, because they’re best friends.
