I think a lot of Vulcans are like the “you’ve come to me with a problem, first instinct is to fix it” type to a more extreme, especially if the problem involves emotions

So when I imagine scenarios of like. a Vulcan going to the restroom during a fancy party and seeing an attractive Human crying in it, and it turns out they don’t see themselves as attractive because their date keeps complimenting everyone else a ton but only told them “nice outfit” and it got to them

And the Vulcan is just like “I have to fix this” and they start thinking of the problem like ‘Human thinks they’re unattractive > they aren’t so nothing can be done to their appearance to make them feel better > they feel unattractive because of their date > they need a better date’ and they just tell the Human “I am your date now, I will tell you how attractive you are without excessively complimenting others so that you feel inferior, so you will no longer have to experience this emotional turbulence”

And they just walk back to their table with a cute Human on their arm who looks like they were crying but is now beaming, getting together speedrun

So you’re in college and you work at a bar where you’re a performer and you have like 18000 side hustles to make money so that you can save up to go to a music festival and also so that you can help out your mom and one day you see a guy (who you got into a scuffle with before in the bathroom) and he’s absolutely wasted so you take him home so he doesn’t get himself or anyone else killed and then y’all start hanging out a bit and end up having a one night stand and now this guy just keeps inserting himself into your life but you actually like it and you’re starting to like him to and you spend your entire birthday with him AND THEN you find out that he’s been in love with his best friend for like. Years. And also said best friend is dating the guy who stole your ex. So now you’re just pissed off and you remember the sex tape your roommate has of the aforementioned ex stealer so you come up with this whole scheme to get it onto your phone so that you can give it to the guy you have a crush on so that he can give it to the guy he has a crush on and you can ruin the ex stealer’s life. This whole thing leads to a massive blow up and you being called a whore by the guy you like and then he drives off but he’s drunk and you unfortunately care about his wellbeing so you go after him and he gets into a car crash so you take him to the hospital and you take care of him and for a moment you’re actually happy but then you see him dancing all romantically with the best friend that he’s in love with. Also you keep getting cockblocked. It is not your day your week your month or your year

It’s the way I’m DESPERATELY trying to play FFVII with an openness to Cloud and Aerith because I know it means so much to so many people—and yet even when I go to YouTube and watch alt versions of mandatory scenes I cannot fathom how people are missing the subtext of “Aerith knows and acknowledges Tifa is so much more than Cloud’s friend even as she wants his attention because she doesn’t know if he’s really himself, has been extremely lonely since Zack left + knows somewhere she’s going to die for herself” ☠️

Like I am 3000% for FF ships that have a lot of groundwork but aren’t primary canon, because Square is notorious for building true chemistry between people who are not ever canonically romantic (hello Phoenixflare) but…it’s getting kind of absurd to see how many people are denying the subtext of Aerith as secondary to Tifa solely because they love their ship.

Perfect example: the scene where Aerith goes up on the Nebelheim water tower (a place wholly and entirely tied to Cloud and Tifa’s ongoing relatonship) and asks Cloud about his town…only for us to get this:

As someone who just consumes media generally…the whole subtext of the scene is clearly that Aerith trying to 1) pull Cloud’s actual memories up from the mind muck he’s going through (something she and Tifa both do repeatedly) and 2) remind Cloud of the side of him that inherently has always had a whole ass crush on his childhood best friend to help jog his memory.

Sure, it reads as a cute moment between them if you want that…but if you’re paying attention to the purpose of the scene itself and what’s being said (verbally and subtextually)…it’s astronomically clear this is a Cloud x Tifa recognition delivered to the audience through a Cloud/Aerith moment…and this happens repeatedly ☠️

And then…immediately after having her be upset that she doesn’t have someone the way Cloud has Tifa, and asking to be alone? I…I just. Like it’s so hard to be here in the middle of a war about “optional scenes” when shit that happens to everyone happens just like this 😭
