Where are they? What are they drinking? What is she saying? Why is he smiling? Is this a “No Cult AU”? If it is, why did I bother drawing all of John’s tattoos anyway?
I don’t know... I visualized this scene, drew it almost immediately, and it made me happy.
It still does :)
And I did it! One year later, I’m done posting all the “old” drawings I said I would post! :D

Immature
pairing: Michael Robinavitch x Senior Resident!Reader
wordcount: 1.8k
warnings: angst, reader is purposefully petty, mentions of robby being an asshole, age gap, mentions of injury (care pile up, car crash), mentions of death
synopsis: Robby loses his temper on you, and you're not quick to forgive, then tragedy strikes, and Robby's not answering his phone
note: some of you may notice that I took down the smut drabble I posted yesterday, I wasn't happy with it, so I took it down, but please accept this in its place. there will be a part two!!
!! not proofread so apologies for any mistakes !!
I’m your attending, and you’re my resident. Act like it.
Robby had spoken those words over a week ago.
It had been in the middle of a close to mass casualty event, a blood soaked emergency room crowded with victims from one of the worst car pile ups you’d ever seen.
You had never performed an emergency c-section before, especially not on someone who had been actively bleeding out. It would’ve taken too long to call an attending in for help, so OB walked you through it over the phone, Garcia assisted, and both the mother and the baby had made it through (relatively) safe and sound. It had been a victory, a save worthy of celebration in the form of too many cocktails, until Robby found out.
He’d given you the grace of scolding you away from prying ears, but that hadn’t lessened the burn.
Robby had been too harsh, way too harsh.
You lacked discipline, didn’t respect the chain of command, didn’t respect him. When it came down to it, you were too much of a cowboy, too flexible with the rules of medicine. You were ‘too much like Abbot in the worst ways’.
Tears had threatened to spill, burning and insistent, but you’d blinked them back.
You had avoided his eyes when you’d told him that you had saved more patients today than any other doctor, that you had been the one to pick up the slack when others had faltered, that he had no right to pick and choose when he thought you were qualified enough to handle things on your own.
You had successfully avoided him for the rest of your shift.
Day One
Meet me out front before your shift. Please.
The message comes through just as you leave your apartment building.
You scare the living daylights out of a flock of pigeons with how hard you slam your door.
You don’t respond to his messages, but you do wait outside the doors to the ED, ten minutes early to your shift, pacing back and forth like a mad woman.
Robby walks up five minutes later, headphones in and sunglasses on. Usually that sight would make your heart flutter, but in this moment, it infuriates you.
“Do you need something, Dr. Robinavitch?” You keep your voice clip, painfully professional.
He flinches, but tucks his sunglasses into the front of his hoodie. “I owe you an apology.”
“Yes, you do.”
Robby sighs. “Tensions were high, I was struggling to keep it together, and I took it out on you. It was completely unfair, and I’m sorry.”
It’s completely genuine, almost heartbreakingly sincere. Somehow, you still don’t completely forgive him.
“Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate it.” Not really. “I guess I’ll see you inside.”
You brush past him before he can get another word in.
Robby follows you through the ER, hot on your heels, but you don’t turn around. You ignore the strange look from Lupe, let the door almost smack him in the face on the way through, skip past your usual morning debrief with Dana and head right towards the nearest patient.
You should forgive him, you know you should. It’s not reasonable to stay so angry about something that had been spoken in the middle of a crisis, but in this moment, you don't care.
You were beyond capable, better than most that had come through this program. Abbot had known that the moment he’d met you, and you thought Robby knew, but maybe he didn’t. He deserved to be ignored, shown the error of his ways, at least for the rest of your shift.
Maybe it’s cruel, but you’re feeling cruel today.
Day Three
He walks through the door with two coffee’s. One completely black, his order, and one with two creams and two sugars, your order.
“Abbot told me you came in early this morning, figured you didn’t have time for a coffee.” It’s a casual lie, an excuse to talk. You never drink coffee before noon.
“Thank you, Dr. Robinavitch.” You don’t take the cup from his hand, don’t even look him in the eye.
Once again, it’s cruel. But you’re still feeling hurt, inadequate.
Robby pushed his way between you and your desk, nudging your chair back just far enough to step between your knees.
“What can I do to earn your forgiveness?” His eyes are unbelievably warm, and it’s almost enough to make you crack.
“You’re forgiven.” You shrug, reaching around him to grab your coffee. “I’m just working on my ‘respect problem’ you had so much to say about.”
“Buttercup, I-”
“It’s Doctor,” You interrupt, pushing up from your chair till the two of you are almost nose to nose. “or my first name, or nothing. Respect goes both ways”
Robby doesn’t back down, and neither do you. It’s tense, probably awkward for many of the nearby bystanders, but it’s the closest he’s been to you in days. He smells incredible, spices, leather, and the slightest hint of antiseptic . He always smells good, but something about being upset with him seems to elevate it.
“Pull it together, you two.” Dana calls out, a phone pinned between her ear and shoulder. “Incoming trauma, two minutes out.”
“On it.” Robby responds, his eyes not once leaving yours. “Buttercup’s leading.”
You all but stomp towards the ambulance bay, annoyance weighing down your shoulders.
“Am I actually leading this, or are you going to take over the minute the patient comes through?”
“Oh, this is all you.” Robby hands are harsh as they tie the back of your gown. “I’m not even gloving up.”
“Let's see how long that lasts.”
Robby, surprisingly, stays true to his word. He hovers by the door, hands behind his back, and doesn't question your decisions. You stabilize the patient in record time, handing them off to the nurses with a strange sense of satisfaction boiling in your stomach.
You turn towards Robby, a cocky smirk on your lips as you tear off your gloves. “See how incredible I am when I’m not being pestered by questions?”
Robby laughs, rough and deep.
“Believe me,” He whispers under his breath, his eyes locked on you as you practically strut out of the trauma room. “I’m well aware of how incredible you are.”
Day Five
“I’m covering Parker on the night shift for the next couple days.”
Robby pauses. “And who’s going to be covering you?”
“You have Langdon, Collins, Mckay, and Mohan, not to mention King, Santos, Javadi, and Whitaker. You don’t need me here.”
“Sure, but I want you here.”
You frown. “No you don’t. I’m not being nice to you this week.”
“No, you’re not,” Robby agrees. “But that doesn’t mean I want you gone.”
“I appreciate that,” You do, really. “But I want to be gone for a little bit.”
“If Abbot were here he’d be telling us to talk out our problems.”
You laugh. “Then let’s be glad he’s not.”
Day Seven
Two days later, you’re somehow back where you started, covered in blood, surrounded by patients in need of treatment, but Robby’s not there, unreachable, actually, and it’s driving you insane.
Abbot tells you a transport crashed through a nearby cafe, decimated the entire building and grievously injured around thirty people. You ask the name of the cafe out of pure curiosity, and Abbot says The Filter. It’s ridiculously overpriced for drinks that aren’t even that good, but it’s Robby’s favorite.
Every sunday night since you met him, Robby has sat in one of the window seats of that cafe, drinking a cup of expensive tea, and decompressing before heading home. And tonight is sunday night, Robby just handed his patients over to Abbot, and bid you both goodbye before heading for the same cafe that had just been taken out by a transport, and he’s not answering his phone.
You’ve been unbelievably immature all week, taken out your frustrations on him, and now he might be gone. He might’ve died thinking you hated him.
Medical work is done through deep breaths and the threat of tears. You check every patient's face for too long, hoping not to recognise his features beneath the blood and debrief. He doesn’t come through the ambulance bay, and he doesn’t call.
Once all the patients are stable, Abbot sends you out for air and you don’t fight him. You shed your gown and gloves, slipping your sweater back on, and wander through the maze of gurneys till the fresh air hits your face.
Your throat is so tight you can hardly breath, and still, the screen of your phone is blank. No missed calls, no texts, not even an email.
You can hear the sound of feet scuffing on pavement, but you don’t look up. It’s probably a paramedic returning to their rig, a nurse coming out for a smoke break, a-
“Did you guys get everything handled, or do you still need help in there?”
It’s Robby’s voice, rough, and warm, and so familiar it makes you want to cry, and you do.
“You’re…” Your voice breaks. He’s in front of you, standing tall and completely intact, his brows furrowed in concern and confusion when he catches sight of the tears streaming down your face.
“What happened? Are you okay?”
You can only respond in sobs, your chest aching as the tears you’d been forcing back all night finally come free. Robby pulls you against him, his face buried in your hair as he whispers quiet hushes. You cling to him, press your head to his chest and cry even harder when you hear the steady beat of his heart.
“I thought you were dead.” Your words come out in a hoarse whisper, muffled against the fabric of his shirt.
“Why would I be dead?”
“The transport crashed through the cafe you go to every Sunday, and you weren’t answering your phone.” You choke back another sob, desperate to get your words out. “I thought you were going to die thinking I was mad at you.”
“Oh… Oh, I'm so sorry.” He holds you tighter, running a hand through your hair in an attempt to calm you, but it only makes you worse.
“You have nothing to apologise for, I was being ridiculous.” You pull away, wiping your nose on your sleeve.
“That’s not ridiculous, I would’ve gone down the same road.” Robby keeps his hands on your shoulders, reluctant to let go of you.
You look up at him, tears brimming your eyes, but you blink them away. “I’m sorry.”
Robby smiles, far too fondly for how you’re guessing you look right now. “I know.”
You stare at each other in a few seconds of comfortable silence before speaking again. “Everything’s mostly handled inside, we just have to get our shit together and prepare for the rest of the night.”
“I’ll come inside and help.”
“You don’t need to.” You try to argue, but it’s half-hearted.
“I know,” Robby nods, his hand lifting to wipe a few stray tears from your cheek. “But I want to.”

certified hater
summary: jake sim’s got a new roommate. and he hates it. he hates you. until one random wednesday afternoon, you look at him with those eyes, and suddenly he’s noticing things he definitely shouldn’t. now jake’s stuck trying to ignore the fact that his least favorite person is somehow making his heart beat faster. he didn’t sign up for this. but hey, neither did you.
genre: fluff | enemies to lovers
characters: jake x f!reader
words: 15.3k
warnings: curse words, kissing i guess
a/n: based on in this economy's jake! our fav hater is back!

“Well,” he sighed dramatically, hand over his heart. “There she goes. The only decent roommate I’ve ever had. The only one who cleaned the hair out of the drain without me having to beg. Who made late-night ramen taste like a Michelin-star meal. Who laughed at my jokes, told me when my shirt was inside out, and didn’t steal my shampoo.”
His best friend rolled her eyes, already halfway up the porch steps with her bag. “Jake, we’re literally 30 minutes away. You’re going to see me every other day.”
Jake turned to Heeseung with a sunny smile. “Well…take good care of her, yeah?”
“I do take care of her,” Heeseung said, voice flat, eyes sharp.
She snorted. “I’m not being shipped off to war, Jake.”
Jungwon—boba in hand, sunglasses on, posture far too relaxed for someone witnessing emotional carnage—finally spoke.
“Alright, drama club,” he called. “Wrap it up. People are starting to stare. Mostly me. And I’m starting to lose interest.”
Jake turned to him with a deep sigh. “What’s even the point of going home? The apartment is going to feel empty.”
Jungwon raised an eyebrow. “You do realize I still live there, right?”
Jake waved a dismissive hand. “Yeah, but you don’t count. You don’t talk to me. You just throw protein bars at my head and call it a meal.”
“And yet somehow, you’ve survived,” Jungwon deadpanned, like Jake was some tragic survivor of mild inconvenience. “Anyway. You got to live with your best friend. Now I get to live with mine.”
Jake froze mid-chew, narrowing his eyes. “…Wait. Wasn’t that hypothetical?”
Jungwon didn’t even look up from his phone. “No? I meant what I said. She’s moving in today.”
“She? You mean to tell me… I’m coming home to a stranger? A female stranger?”
“She’s not a stranger to me,” Jungwon said with an infuriating shrug. “Anyway. She’s chill. You’ll love her. I think.”
Jake pointed accusingly at Jungwon. “I swear if she does something annoying, I’ll—”
“You’ll do what?” Jungwon said, already walking away. “Write her a strongly worded Post-It? Sue her?”
“Ugh. First, I lose my best friend to my annoying boss now…now this? I’m going home!” he yelled, heading for his Uber. “But before I do…Heeseung,” Jake called out.
Heeseung took a slow sip of his coffee. “That’s Mr. Lee to you.”
“Yeah, I’m not calling you that when we’re off the clock and you look like a walking beige napkin.”
“This is Gucci,” Heeseung said flatly, glancing down at his designer shirt—then at Jake’s outfit. “And whatever you’re wearing is…”
Jake sneered. “Is a gift. From your girlfriend.”
“Oh. Then I love them,” Heeseung said sweetly, turning to kiss her on the lips without breaking eye contact.
Jake recoiled. “Tell your boyfriend to back off.”
“Tell your ex-roommate to get a grip.”
Jake narrowed his eyes. “I hope your new place has ants.”
And then... standing there on Heeseung’s stupidly spotless porch, watching them disappear into their stupid new house (because of course Heeseung could just casually buy a house like he was adding a new hoodie to cart), Jake squinted thoughtfully at the disgustingly perfect front yard.
Jake’s eye twitched. God, he hated rich people. To be specific, he hated Heeseung. Stealing his roommate and his best friend, just like that. Selfish bastard.
But then — just by the edge of the driveway — movement.
Tiny. Crawling. Full of untapped petty potential. Jake’s lips slowly curled into a grin.
“Well, well, well,” he murmured to absolutely no one, crouching down like a villain in sweatpants.
“Nature provides.”
Cut to twenty minutes later:
Jake crouched like a criminal in Heeseung’s yard with a plastic cup. Scooping ants off the sidewalk like he was foraging for revenge. Whispering to himself like a lunatic.
“This is what betrayal gets you, Heeseung. You bitch.”
By the time he had an entire squad of confused ants swirling around in the cup like unwilling accomplices, Jake stood up, dusted his hands off, and jogged across the lawn.
He rang the doorbell.
Once.
Twice.
Three times — annoying, spaced out, just to be a menace.
Finally — the door yanked open.
Heeseung stood there, deadpan, already exhausted. In socks. Mug of tea in hand.
“What.”
Jake grinned, wide, sweet, feral. “Miss me?”
Heeseung blinked at him like he regretted every life choice that led to knowing Jake Sim.
“Didn’t you leave with Jungwon?”
“I was going to but…”
And then — without missing a beat — Jake yeeted the entire cup of ants straight through the doorway.
Heeseung’s eyes tracked it mid-air.
The cup landed with a hollow little plunk on the entryway floor — ants scattering like their Uber just arrived.
Heeseung stared.
“What—” Heeseung’s eye twitched. “Did you just—”
“Nature says hi.” Jake whispered.
And then?
Jake ran. Full sprint.
Cackling like an absolute child as Heeseung’s voice exploded behind him —
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”
Jake was already halfway down the street, gleefully texting Jungwon like a war general reporting a win.
jake: bro i did smth
jungwon: what did you do
jake: nothing much. Had fun w nature tho…lol
jungwon: wait a min…did u throw ants in their fucking house
jake: yea lol i can still hear heeseung yelling
jungwon: take a vid?
jake: i’ll snap u LOOOL
—-
It wasn’t that Jake hated new people. Well—okay. Maybe he did. A little. Just a bit.
Sure, he looked friendly — floppy hair, easy grin, that dangerously smooth voice that could charm strangers and confuse baristas into giving him extra whipped cream without asking. But deep down?
Jake Sim was a man powered entirely by routine, caffeine, and emotional damage.
At work? Immaculate. Precise. Heeseung’s best guy on every project. The guy you could trust to fix your mess without asking questions.
At home? At home, Jake Sim was powered by rage, Doritos, and spite-fuelled midnight snacking.
And nothing — nothing — disrupted that fragile ecosystem quite like a stranger invading his living space.
Jake sighed and glanced at Jungwon, who sat curled on the couch, no emotion on his face.
“You’re sure she’ll like me?” Jake asked, leaning back like he genuinely needed reassurance.
Jungwon didn’t even glance up from his phone. “Maybe she will. Maybe she won’t. I’m betting my money on the latter.”
Jake grinned, ego inflating instantly. “But I’m charming. I’m handsome. I ooze sex appeal.”
Jungwon finally looked up. Blinked. Paused.
“You’re… okay.”
Jake stared. “Okay?”
Jungwon shrugged, unbothered. “You’re like store-brand charming.”
Jake squinted. “The hell does that even mean?”
“Looks the same. Works okay. Nobody’s writing home about it.” Jungwon deadpanned. “But yeah, sure. Reliable in a pinch.”
Jake clutched his chest like he’d just been stabbed with a plastic spoon. “I am premium charming.”
Jungwon sipped his drink. “You’re aisle seven, bottom shelf, on sale for $2.99.”
Jake looked genuinely offended. “Wow.”
“Look,” he said flatly, “she’s moving in tomorrow whether you like it or not. So dust yourself off… and for the love of God, take down that thing you call art.”
He pointed lazily at The Painting. The painting that Jake did during his “I’m unemployed and spiraling” era. His “maybe I’m just like Van Gogh” phase. A little stressed, a little depressed, and unfortunately — very creative.
Except he wasn’t.
Because if Jungwon was being brutally honest (and he always was), Jake’s 36 by 36 inch masterpiece was…
A giant, aggressively well-shaded dick.
Like, museum-level shading. Art school tragedy. Anatomically correct in ways that made Jungwon genuinely concerned for Jake’s mental health.
“It’s abstract,” Jake had insisted once, dead serious.
“It’s a dick,” Jungwon had replied, dead inside.
“To you,” Jake had said, like he was Picasso defending himself in court. “To me it represents manhood. The transition from child to man.”
Jungwon stared at him. Stared at the cursed, hauntingly well-shaded disaster on the wall. Stared back at him.
"Just take it down by tonight, you moron." he muttered, already walking back to his room. "Because I am not explaining to a grown ass woman why there’s a three-foot dick staring her dead in the eyes while she’s just trying to eat her cereal."
—-
You balanced a box against your hip, car keys jingling in one hand, your phone wedged between your shoulder and ear as you stepped into the apartment for the very first time.
“You couldn’t skip one class?” you muttered into the phone, nudging the door closed behind you with your foot. “Just one? I am literally dragging my entire life through this hallway alone right now.”
Jungwon’s voice crackled on the other end. “And I am literally about to ace my quiz on post-colonial literature. We all have battles we can’t pick.”
You rolled your eyes so hard it was a miracle they didn’t fall out. “I hope your professor forgets your name and ends up giving you the biggest F in history.”
“Trait—”
Jungwon cut you off with a yawn. “Anyway, key’s under the mat. Room in the back is yours. Make yourself at home. Don’t fight Jake. Love you.”
You paused mid-step. “Who?”
“Bye!” he said, then hung up like a man with no conscience.
You stared at your phone. “What do you mean ‘don’t fight Jake’?! Who’s Jake?!”
No answer. Just the echo of betrayal.
You let out a long sigh and took in your surroundings. The apartment was… livable. Clean-ish. A little too beige. Smelled like something between cologne and aggressively microwaved noodles. Classic boy territory.
Still balancing your box, you headed toward the back, where you assumed your room would be. The hallway split into two doors. One was cracked open slightly, revealing a glimpse of a desk.
You knocked once, half-hearted and awkward, and pushed the door open.
And then everything happened at once.
Music. Blasting.
Eyes. Wide.
Box. Dropped.
You screamed.
Because standing dead center in the room was a guy in nothing but boxers, aggressively dancing to Bruno Mars like he was auditioning for a boyband.
He jumped like he'd been tasered, yanked an earbud out, and yelped, “WHAT THE HELL?! WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!”
“WHY ARE YOU NAKED?!” you echoed back, slapping a hand over your eyes.
“I’M NOT NAKED!”
“YOU’RE LIKE 80% NAKED!”
He grabbed a throw pillow off his bed and held it over himself like it could protect either of you from this moment. “What are you even doing in my room?!”
“Jungwon said the room in the back is mine!”
“This is my room!”
“Then label your damn doors next time!”
“You’re supposed to knock!”
“I did knock!”
“Then you wait for a response, smartass!”
“Are you serious right now?! How was I supposed to know you’d be air-humping the universe like a deranged psycho?!”
“That was choreography!”
You both stared at each other, panting like you’d just come out of battle. You took a long breath, picked up your box again, and hissed, “You must be Jake.”
His eyes narrowed. “And you must be the replacement.”
“Well,” he said, tossing the pillow onto the bed and grabbing a pair of sweats, “we’re off to a great start.”
If first impressions were anything to go by, this was going to be war.
And unfortunately, the battlefield was your new living room.
—-
You wiped your palms on your jeans, jaw still tight as you grabbed another box from the small pile by the front door. This one was heavier—textbooks, probably. Just as you turned around to haul it outside, you slammed straight into a very firm, very warm, very fully clothed chest.
You looked up. Jake.
Now dressed in a hoodie and joggers, hair slightly damp like he’d just showered the shame off. Unfortunately, he still looked obnoxiously good. Annoyingly taller than you. And, somehow, smug—which should be illegal after whatever happened earlier.
He blinked down at you. “Need help?”
You opened your mouth to say something—anything—but he held up a hand.
“Unless…” He squinted dramatically. “You’re about to peep on me again, then I—”
“Peep at you?!” you hissed. “I walked into what I thought was my room and got assaulted by a hip thrust.”
He shrugged. “I was in the moment.”
“Are you always this delusional?”
Jake leaned against the doorframe like this wasn’t already a disaster. “You really can’t admit it, huh?”
“Admit what?”
“That you enjoyed the view.”
Your jaw dropped. “Oh my God.”
“Don’t worry,” he added, all faux-gentle. “Not everyone can handle the Full Jake Sim Experience.”
You narrowed your eyes. “You know, Jungwon warned me about you.”
Jake’s grin kicked up, cocky. “Let me guess — ‘Jake’s a little dramatic, but give it time and you’ll fall for the charm.’”
“Actually,” you said dryly, “it was ‘don’t engage, it only encourages him.’”
“That’s slander,” he declared.
“That’s advice,” you corrected. “Good advice.”
—
Jungwon slid his bag off his shoulder, grinning from ear to ear. “I’m home!” he called out, voice echoing through the apartment as he kicked the door shut behind him.
Finally. After years of joking about it, he was officially living with his best friend.
Jungwon knew the odds were low that you and Jake would hit it off immediately.
You were... you. Stubborn. Easily irritated. Quietly unhinged. But also — annoyingly kind. Thoughtful in that backhanded, "made you ramen but insulted you while doing it" kind of way.
You’d survive Jake.
Hell, maybe Jake needed to survive you.
He strolled down the hallway, humming as he knocked lightly on your door. “Yo. You alive in there?”
No answer.
He tried again. Still nothing. With a shrug, he walked over to Jake’s door and gave it a push. Open. Empty.
“Jake?”
Then, from the depths of the apartment, came shouting.
Jungwon blinked. Tilted his head. The bathroom. He padded toward the noise—and regretted it immediately.
“I was here first!” you snapped.
“No, I was here first!” Jake shot back, voice bouncing off the tiled walls.
“I had my towel in here! That’s bathroom code!” You yelled.
“There is no such thing as bathroom code, you freak!”
“Let me in! I’m going out and I have to pee!”
“Looking like that?” You sneered at Jake whose smile faded.
A long pause.
“…What’s that supposed to mean?”
You offered a polite smile. “Oh, nothing. I just thought you cared about how you dressed. But hey—good for you. You’re braver than most of the people I know!”
Jungwon closed his eyes. Rested his head against the wall. Inhaled slowly.
This was his life now.
—-
Jake sat slouched at the edge of the table, a half-spilled bowl of kimchi stew in front of him, aggressively chomping like it had personally wronged him.
Across from him, Heeseung and his girlfriend were mid–honeymoon phase nonsense—feeding each other dumplings, whispering like the rest of the room didn’t exist, giggling over god knows what as if Jake wasn’t having a full-blown emotional breakdown one seat over.
“She color-codes the pantry,” Jake snapped, waving his chopsticks like a weapon. “I left one bag of chips—one!—and she reorganized the entire cabinet. Who’s even looking in there, huh? The Pantry Police?”
“Oh—oh, and get this,” Jake ranted, mouth still half-full of kimchi. “She sends me photos of the sink. With captions. ‘This is your plate, Jake. I know it’s yours because it has your little cartoon fork on it. Like—what?! How does she even know I have cartoon forks?! Who memorizes someone’s cutlery?’”
He flailed a hand like he was being victimized.
His best friend didn’t even blink. “The real question is why you’re still using forks with tiny bears on them.”
“That’s not the point!”
“You ever thought of, I don’t know…” Heeseung finally looked up, lips shiny from dumpling sauce. “Being a better roommate instead of…an ass?”
“I’m not being an ass!” Jake protested — loud enough to startle the next table and wild enough to knock over the soy sauce dish. He scrambled to fix it with a sad napkin, still grumbling under his breath like he was the victim here.
“She’s just—she’s too clean, okay? Like robot clean. Psycho neat. I leave one hoodie on the couch and next thing I know, it’s folded, labelled, and put away neatly.”
“It just sounds like you’re being an ass to her,” she said.
“Yeah, let’s unpack that.”
Jake squinted. “Unpack what?”
“You know.” Heeseung leaned back, annoyingly relaxed. “Why are you all…angsty and weird about her?”
“Because!” Jake snapped. Jake glared. At them. At the table. At the ceiling.
Heeseung raised an eyebrow. “Because?”
Then he exploded, “…Because she freaking pisses me off, that’s why!”
The table went silent.
“That’s crazy. Sounds a lot like flirting to me.”
—-
You threw yourself onto the couch with the kind of rage that could only come from enduring Jake Sim for more than ten minutes. Jungwon sat across from you, calmly chewing on dried squid like he wasn’t witnessing a breakdown.
“He leaves his stupid fucking hoodie on the couch,” you exploded, hands flailing like you were directing traffic in hell. “Like we live in a prison bunk. Like there’s no other surface in the entire apartment for his crusty-ass clothes except the exact spot I want to sit.”
Jungwon nodded slowly. Unbothered. A man built for surviving your storms.
You inhaled sharply. But oh — you were not done.
“And don’t even get me started on the pantry.” You threw a hand toward the kitchen like it personally betrayed you.
“He messed up my color-coded snack shelf. My system, Jungwon.” He raised a brow. Brave. Curious. Foolish.
“What system?”
You blinked. Offended. “My Oreos go beside the dark chocolate. That’s balance. That’s harmony. That’s civilisation. That’s how society should be.”
“But noooo—” you went on, fully deranged now, “Jake Sim, chaotic neutral in sweatpants, decides to put my Oreos between the shrimp chips and the ramen cups like he’s staging a fucking rebellion.”
“So what I’m hearing is…” he drawled, “you think about Jake... a lot.”
“Shut the hell up.”
He ignored you completely. “God, you two act like toddlers.”
“It’s not my fault,” you whined. “He’s making living here hard.”
Like breathing was fine until Jake Sim walked into the room with his stupid smug face and stupid loud voice and stupid boy smell that was weirdly clean for someone who acted like a feral animal.
“You’re not exactly a ray of sunshine to him either,” he pointed out.
“That’s only because…” you muttered.
“Because?”
“Because he’s loud and smug and he–he leaves wet towels on the bathroom floor and–”
“Because?”
“BECAUSE HE FREAKING PISSES ME OFF, THAT’S WHY!”
The room went quiet. Jungwon stared at you. You stared at Jungwon.
And then he went back to chewing his squid, completely unfazed. “Yeah,” he mumbled, “you’re definitely in love with him.”
—-
It was nearly midnight, and the apartment was quiet except for the occasional sharp screech from the horror movie playing on the TV. The lights were off, the only glow coming from the screen casting quick shadows across the room. You were curled up on the couch, blanket over your shoulders, a bowl of popcorn balanced in your lap, gripping a pillow more out of nerves than comfort — heart jumping at every sudden sound.
Jungwon was long gone—fast asleep behind his locked door like a man who knew better.
The apartment was dark. Too dark. The only light came from the TV, flickering ominously across your face as the horror movie reached its cursed little climax.
On screen, the main character was creeping down some nightmare hallway — flickering lights, suspicious footsteps, a soundtrack practically begging something to kill them. You squinted, peeking nervously between your fingers.
“Don’t open the door,” you whispered to the screen, your voice tight. “Don’t open the door, you idiot—”
On screen, the character opened the door.
You sucked in a breath, ready for the inevitable jumpscare.
And then—
“Boo.”
You didn’t even think.
You screamed at the top of your lungs. The bowl of popcorn went airborne. Your fist met something very real, very solid, and very human.
Crack.
“OW—WHAT THE FU—”
You turned mid-panic to find Jake Sim, doubled over and holding his nose, blinking like he’d just been hit by a truck.
Your jaw dropped. “OH MY GOD—JAKE?!”
He groaned loudly. “Did you just punch me?!”
“YOU SNUCK UP ON ME!”
“DO I LOOK LIKE THE FUCKING DEMON?!”
Jake pulled his hand back and stared at the red streak now smeared across his palm.
“Is that—” you gasped, eyes wide, “OH MY GOD, ARE YOU BLEEDING?”
“Yes!” Jake hissed, clutching his nose. “My face is leaking! My nose is leaking because you decided to square up with me like this was Mortal Kombat!”
You scrambled to grab tissues, knocking over a cushion and somehow stepping on your own foot in the process. “I didn’t mean to! It was a reflex! Who sneaks up on someone during a horror movie? You’re lucky I didn’t stab you.”
Jake flopped onto the couch like a man deeply wronged. “You need a warning label.”
“You need common sense.”
“You need to stop throwing hands like you’re in an underground fight club.”
You shoved the wad of tissues at him, dropping onto the couch beside him with a dramatic sigh. “Drama queen.”
“Violent rat.”
The two of you sat there, breathing hard. Popcorn crunched quietly under your sock. The horror movie still played in the background — completely forgotten.
Ten minutes later, you were sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of him, chewing your lip. Jake sat slouched on the couch, ice pack pressed to his face, still sulking like you’d ruined his modelling career.
“Are you okay?” you asked, cautiously.
Jake didn’t look at you. “Physically or emotionally?”
You squinted. “...Both?”
“Physically, my nose is fighting for its life. Emotionally? I’ve seen things.”
You rolled your eyes. “Oh my god, you’re so dramatic.”
He gave you a look over the ice pack. “I googled it. I’m allowed to be dramatic.”
You snorted. “Let me see.”
“What, so you can break it again?”
Still, when you leaned in, Jake let you push his hand away.
Carefully, you touched the bridge of his nose, brows furrowed in focus. Up close like this, you were quiet for once — way too close, way too serious, and way too pretty for his peace of mind.
“It’s not broken,” you muttered, inspecting him closely. “Tragically.”
Jake huffed a laugh under his breath. “Bet you’re disappointed.”
“A little,” you admitted.
Your hand brushed his cheek as you pulled away and Jake’s brain short-circuited for a solid second.
“Okay, you’re fine. Still got your stupid face. The world can rest easy.”
He grinned lazily. “Worried about me?”
You scoffed. “I’m worried you’ll bleed all over the couch.”
You got up to leave.
“Where are you going?”
“To make you tea.”
Jake blinked. That shut him up fast.
“Chamomile?” he asked hopefully.
You groaned from the kitchen. “Isn’t that the only tea you drink?”
Silence.
Then Jake — deadpan, smug — called out, “Weird how you know that.”
You rolled your eyes. Hard. “Weird how you only drink the saddest tea on earth like an old timey British person.”
Jake snorted. “Says the girl who labels her instant noodles like they’re priceless artifacts.”
“At least I don’t treat chamomile like a personality trait.”
“At least I have a personality,” Jake shot back. “Yours starts and ends with passive-aggressive Post-Its.”
You yanked open the cupboard. “Maybe if you read them, we wouldn’t be here.”
“Maybe if you punched fewer people we wouldn’t be here.”
There was a beat.
You grabbed a mug, muttering under your breath, “Should’ve punched harder.”
Jake, from the couch, still icing his nose, let out a scoff of disbelief.
“And yet,” he said flatly, “here you are. Making tea for me.”
You slammed the kettle down louder than necessary. “Because if I don’t, you’ll bleed out and haunt me out of spite.”
Jake leaned back, smug despite the tissue stuffed up his nose.
“Oh, don’t worry,” he called out. “If I do die and end up haunting you, I’m definitely hiding your stupid label maker first.”
—-
The next morning, sunlight trickled through the blinds, soft and golden. The apartment was quiet. Jungwon had already disappeared for his 8 a.m. class like the punctual little overachiever he was.
Which left you here.
In the kitchen.
Making the most humiliating thing of your life:
“I’m sorry I punched your nose” scrambled eggs.
This wasn’t because you liked Jake Sim. God, no. This wasn’t softness. This wasn’t kindness.
This was guilt.
Stupid, irritating, nose-bleeding guilt.
Because yeah — maybe he shouldn’t have snuck up on you like the human embodiment of a jumpscare. But also... maybe you shouldn’t have decked him like you were trying out for MMA.
Maybe.
Unfortunately, despite being fully committed to hating Jake Sim with your entire soul... you also had a functioning moral compass.
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.
Jake padded out of his room half-asleep, hoodie sliding off one shoulder, hair a disaster, still mentally in dreamland — following the smell of butter like a man possessed.
But then he saw you.
And whatever was left of his morning brain just... stopped.
There you were. Standing by the stove — hair pulled back messily like you hadn’t even tried, barefoot, apron cinched around your waist, that stupid little dress swaying just slightly as you moved.
It was... weird.
Soft, almost. Domestic.
Like he’d walked into someone else’s life.
You were humming to yourself, lazily stirring scrambled eggs — completely unaware that Jake had frozen in the doorway like an idiot.
And he didn’t move.
Didn’t speak.
Didn’t even breathe.
Because it hit him — quietly, without warning — that you were pretty.
Not just yeah, okay, she’s kinda cute when she’s not yelling at me pretty.
But actually pretty.
So pretty it knocked the rest of his words clean out of his head.
Which explained why he didn’t notice the sharp corner of the kitchen counter directly in front of him.
WHAM.
His toe slammed into the sharp corner of the kitchen counter.
“Fuck,” he whispered, staggering back like he’d been shot.
You jumped, whipping around. “Oh, you’re awake.”
Jake blinked down at you from the other side of the kitchen, still cradling his busted toe like it was your fault. His hoodie was sliding off one shoulder, hair an absolute mess, socks mismatched.
Meanwhile, you?
Hair tied up like it was nothing. That stupid little dress swishing around your knees. Making breakfast.
It was almost offensive, really.
Jake narrowed his eyes. \Why did you look... annoyingly good this morning? Since when? Since when were you this pretty?
Damn, maybe you gave him a concussion.
You caught him staring.
“What?” you snapped, holding up the plate like it was a peace treaty you immediately regretted.
He blinked, snapped out of it. “What’s this?”
“Scrambled eggs. For you.”
“Pity eggs?”
You rolled your eyes. “Consider it hush money so I don’t have to keep looking at your tragic nose bruise.”
Jake hesitated. Then took the plate — fingers brushing yours just long enough to send something stupid and sparky down his spine.
Shut up, spine.
He cleared his throat. “You didn’t poison these, right?”
“Only emotionally,” you deadpanned. “Just like I do everything.”
Jake snorted under his breath — a sound halfway between disbelief and reluctant amusement.
But then, as you sat across from him, watching him eat like you weren’t the one responsible for his new villain origin story, you shifted awkwardly.
And Jake noticed.
Hard not to, when you were never this quiet.
“Look…” you started, voice forced like you were fighting every bit of your pride. “I was talking to Jungwon, and… maybe I’ve been giving you a hard time.”
Jake paused mid-chew.
Maybe?
Maybe?
“...You broke my face.”
You glared. “It’s not broken.”
He gestured wildly. “It could be. You’re not a doctor”
You exhaled sharply. “I’m just saying... maybe we could be, like, civil.”
“Are you sure you didn’t poison—”
“I didn’t fucking poison them, you rat.” Jake just stared at you, smug.
You cleared your throat, adjusting your tone like you hadn’t just threatened him with breakfast. “What I meant to say was… no. I didn’t poison them. If that’s what you were worried about.”
Jake watched you from the corner of his eye — the way your dress moved, the way your ponytail swayed.
“I just feel bad, okay?” you huffed, glaring at his very tragic, very dramatic face. “That big-ass bruise on your nose’s making eye contact with me.”
Jake froze. Instantly concerned.
“...Bruise?” he echoed, voice tight.
“Yeah.”
Like a man possessed, he snatched his phone off the counter, flipped to the front camera—
And the noise he made?
Somewhere between a gasp, a dying bird, and a full-on crime scene.
“Oh my god,” he whispered, horrified. “You ruined my face.”
You blinked. “I—”
“My beautiful fucking face!”
You winced. “That’s… a little dramatic.”
Jake spun around like you’d personally ended his modeling career, shoving the phone in your face. “Do you see this?! How am I supposed to show up to work tomorrow looking like I got body slammed by Dwayne Fucking Johnson?!”
You snorted. “You literally work in tech.”
“That’s not the point!”
“I’m pretty sure it is the point,” you deadpanned. “You’re not an idol, Jake. I’m sure the CEOs will survive your mildly distressed nose.”
Jake let out a pained groan, like you just didn’t understand the gravity of his suffering. “I have a presentation tomorrow!”
You raised a brow. “Okay... and?”
“A huge one!” he cried. “Multiple CEOs. Investors from all over the country. I’m supposed to look like I have my life together. Not like I got mauled by a vending machine!”
You shrugged, zero sympathy left in your body. “Can’t your boss… what’s his name again… Hee...Heesoo do it?”
“It’s Heeseung,” Jake bit out. “And he’s in Japan for a business trip.”
“Get someone else to do it.”
“I am someone else!” he exploded, pacing now like his nose was about to file a lawsuit.
A beat of silence.
You tilted your head slowly, casually, a little too calm for his liking.
“…What if I did it?”
“...What.”
“I could present it for you,” you said, crossing your arms, your smile inching into dangerous territory. “You wear a mask, pretend you’re sick. Cough a few times for realism. I’ll read your script. Boom. Problem solved.”
You turned back around, all casual, all dangerous. “Your pitch. I could do it.”
He blinked. Once. Twice.
“Yeah, uh, no offense, Broadway, but the presentation is about app technology. Not jazz hands.”
You shrugged. “Fake it till you make it. Plus, I’m excellent at pretending I know things. Ask any of my professors.”
Jake stared at you.
Like you had absolutely lost your mind.
“You,” he said flatly, “want to stand in front of a room full of multi-millionaire investors... and pretend to know shit about app tech.”
You grinned. “Exactly.”
“That is—hands down—the worst idea I’ve ever heard.”
“Thank you.”
“And also,” Jake added slowly, like it pained him to admit, “possibly... my only option.”
You shot finger guns at him.
You grinned like the menace you were. “Come on, Jake Sim. Admit it. You need me.”
“Fine,” he ground out. Like the word physically hurt coming out of his mouth. “But you’re getting a crash course in app tech in two hours. No complaining.”
You shrugged, breezy, unbothered. “Sounds painfully boring. Can’t wait.”
—-
The next day, Jake had already bolted out of the apartment like his hair was on fire while shouting, “The investors are here and they brought their lawyers! I gotta g–” and then he left.
Meanwhile, you?
You were still in the bathroom, casually putting on lip balm like you had all the time in the world. Because if you were about to scam your way through a tech presentation with nothing but sheer confidence and delusion — you were damn sure going to look like someone who belonged on a Forbes list.
Or, well... the clearance rack at H&M’s attempt at one.
Were you terrified of tech investors? Absolutely.
Were you about to march in there, smile pretty, and pretend you understood whatever the hell Jake had been mumbling about for the past 24 hours? Also absolutely.
Because if there was one thing you were good at — it was faking shit.
(And pissing Jake off. But that was practically a sport at this point.)
You strutted into Jake’s workplace like you owned the building. Or were seconds away from committing tax fraud in it. Either way — heels clicking, head high, shoulders squared like you’d been bred in the wild on sarcasm and petty confidence.
The lobby was ridiculous. Floor-to-ceiling glass. Air that smelled like imported lemons and old money. A giant, abstract sculpture near the entrance that looked suspiciously like regret and cost more than your entire education.
Upstairs, Jake checked his watch for what had to be the fiftieth time.
You’re late. 5 minutes late.
His shirt collar felt like it was conspiring to choke him, and the mask he wore (to hide the bruise you gave him) felt less like protection and more like a visual reminder that he’d been punched in the face by you.
The elevator dinged. Jake didn’t even look up at first—he was too busy internally screaming about font sizes and silently mouthing his pitch like a deranged TED Talk speaker. But then the room shifted. The air changed. Like the universe hit slow-mo.
His gaze lifted. And there you were. Jake looked up. And promptly forgot how to function. Because there you were. Walking out of the elevator like you were starring in his worst nightmare — and maybe his daydream too. He wasn’t sure anymore.
Soft curls. Glossy lips. That dress. That damn dress — classy, simple, hugging you like it was personally invested in his suffering. The type of dress that shouldn’t have been this illegal in a workplace setting but was, somehow, devastatingly so.
Jake forgot how to breathe.
Because here was the thing about Jake Sim:
He’d seen you in every possible unflattering state known to mankind.
Screaming about printer ink like it committed tax fraud against you. Hair up in a bun so chaotic it looked like it had survived a natural disaster. Wearing the same hoodie for three days straight — his hoodie, he’d realized once, which only annoyed him more — eyes wild with caffeine and vengeance at 3AM because Spotify ads kept interrupting your study playlist.
And still — still — Jake had always kinda thought you were...pretty.
Annoyingly pretty.
The worst kind.
The kind of pretty that snuck up on you mid-argument or when you were mid-rant about detergent prices. The kind of pretty that didn’t need fixing or dressing up. Just...you.
But today? Today was different. You weren’t just pretty. You were dangerous.
His jaw clenched so hard he swore he heard a crack. He couldn’t look away. Couldn’t blink. Couldn’t even think.
It was like the floor had disappeared beneath him and someone had swapped out his organs with static. His heart had ditched the beat and gone straight to drum solo. His brain, normally quick, charming, obnoxiously cocky? Dead.
“You made it,” Jake said — and immediately regretted it, because holy shit, was that his voice? High. Cracked. Betrayed him completely like puberty had just swung back around for one last revenge tour.
“Yeah, well,” you hummed, throwing him a look and gesturing vaguely to the black mask covering the evidence of your sucker punch, “figured I owed you.”
Jake nodded. Or at least he thought he did. Hard to tell.
He decided to stay silent. Because God knows what would happen if he opened his mouth again? God help him — a full-blown Ed Sheeran love song might just crawl out.
So he didn’t. He just...stood there. Standing at the podium, you looked...ridiculous. Ridiculously good.
Like you didn’t just belong here — like you ran the place. Like you were here to pitch an app or recruit followers for a cult — and honestly? Jake wasn’t even sure which one. All he knew was… he’d probably sign up either way. No questions asked. No dignity left.
"Well, good morning, everyone,” you began, and even you were surprised by how calm you sounded.
Jake stood in the back, blinking at you like he’d never seen you before. You were charismatic. Smart. A little terrifying. And you had the entire room hanging on your every word.
Somewhere between “LinkedIn is dead” and “our algorithm is based on actual passions, not titles,” Jake realized something horrifying. You weren’t just pretending to be good at this. You were good at this. Confident. Sharp. Effortless.
His chest swelled — with what felt suspiciously like pride — until reality smacked him upside the head. This was the same girl who, just last night, sat cross-legged on his floor, staring blankly at his laptop and asked, with full sincerity:
"Wait… what does AI even stand for?"
Jake was still smiling like an idiot.
God, he hated to admit it — but you killed that presentation. Clean. Sharp. Smooth in a way that made him kind of want to brag about it like he trained you personally (he didn’t — he barely survived explaining what an API was to you without passing out).
A few came up to shake your hand — small talk, praise, the usual empty corporate fluff. Except no one really asked you questions. Not the tough ones, at least.
Right up until he caught movement at the edge of his vision.
Two guys. Tall. Sleek. Expensive haircuts that probably cost more than Jake’s entire outfit. Hovering. Too close. He squinted. Because they weren’t walking toward him. Nope.
They were walking toward you.
Grinning. Hovering. Talking with their hands like they were about to pitch you a deal or — god forbid — flirt. His eyes narrowed. You were still reeling from the high of the presentation, packing up your notes when a smooth voice cut through the air beside you.
“I haven’t seen you around before,” said Blondie. "Mr. Sim never mentioned someone so young... and pretty working in the App Tech department."
“Oh, uh, I’m new,” you said, hoping you didn’t sound as awkward as you felt. “Just joined.”
Blondie smiled, clearly not buying it. “New and already giving such an impressive presentation. I’d love to hear more about the algorithm sometime… maybe over dinner?”
You blinked again. Algorithm? Was that on Slide 7?
Before you could even form a response, a voice cut in like an unexpected thunderstorm.
“She’s booked.”
You turned just in time to see Jake—Jake—swoop into the scene like a knight in wrinkled business casual. His jaw was tight, eyes practically shooting daggers. And that mask? Somehow, it made him look even hotter. You were definitely going to need therapy to figure out why anger made him so ridiculously attractive. That was something for a professional to unpack.
“She’s what?” Blondie asked, blinking.
“Taken,” Jake said, his voice like cold steel. “I’m with her.”
Blondie’s eyes widened like he’d just been slapped with a fish. “Oh! I didn’t realize—”
Jake grabbed your hand and brought it up to his lips with a quick peck, way too casual for the situation. “Anyway,” Jake said, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, “thanks for admiring my girlfriend. I, too, find her absolutely breathtaking.”
Blondie and his friend, practically evaporated under the weight of the awkwardness. They muttered quick goodbyes and slunk off, leaving you standing there, completely stunned.
“Girlfriend?” You stared at Jake, still holding your hand in his like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Jake leaned down slightly, his voice soft but pointed. “You’re welcome for saving you from that finance bro disaster. You looked like you were about to faint.”
“I was not,” you shot back, still flustered.
“You squeaked.” Jake smirked, his lips curling up in that annoying, irresistibly smug way of his. Your heart skipped a beat, but you shoved it down. He was being a jerk.
You crossed your arms, still confused by the whole situation. “You’re so weird. Why the hell would you do that?”
Jake shrugged casually, as if the whole thing had been no big deal. “Someone had to save you. I’m not letting some guy with a bad haircut flirt with you in front of me. It’s... inconvenient.”
"Inconvenient?" You stared at him, baffled. "What are you even—"
And then, like a slap to the face, it hit you.
He was jealous.
“No way,” you muttered, half-laughing. “Are you… actually jealous right now?”
Jake’s face flushed slightly, but he smirked, all smooth and defensive. "No, I just—"
You interrupted him, holding up your hand. "You are! Oh my god, you are jealous."
His eyes flickered briefly, like he was calculating his next move. “I am not. You're... imagining things.”
You leaned back slightly, giving him a teasing, incredulous look. “Right, because you not letting some guy get too close is just a totally normal response for someone you fucking despise.”
Jake paused, then looked at you with that intense, quiet stare, his expression unreadable for a moment. You felt a flicker of something in your chest, but before you could process it, he said, in a voice softer than you expected, “I don’t despise you.”
—
Jake sat across from you at the tiny grill table, doing his best to act like he didn't care that you were wearing what could only be described as the world's most unassuming dress. It wasn’t even remotely textbook "sexy." No slits, no plunging neckline, just a simple, casual thing that barely clung to you. Yet, somehow, you made it look like flawless.
You were just grilling meat, for crying out loud. Nothing remotely provocative about it. And yet, there Jake was, trying—and failing—to pretend he wasn’t completely losing his mind over it.
Then, disaster struck.
Jake’s grip on his chopsticks tightened, nearly snapping them in half. He could feel a vein pulsing in his temple. He didn't even realize he was glaring until the waiter noticed. And that’s when he realized something was very, very wrong with him.
You turned to Jake, blinking innocently. “Are you okay? You look like you’re about to pass out.”
“Me?” Jake laughed, but it was the kind of laugh that wasn’t even remotely convincing. “Totally fine. Just making sure you’re not about to, y'know, set the whole table on fire.”
He shrugged off his jacket and—without thinking—slung it over your shoulders like his life depended on it.
“You look cold,” Jake muttered, trying to sound casual, but the effort was absolutely wasted.
“I’m sitting in front of an actual fire,” you pointed out, obviously not buying the excuse.
“Just take it,” he said through gritted teeth. He could feel his brain glitching as his fingers brushed against yours for half a second.
“You’re acting weird,” you muttered, clearly starting to suspect something was off. “Did you hit your head again today or…?”
“Just wear the damn thing.”
“Why?” you asked slowly, suspicious. “I’m not even cold.”
“It’s not for warmth,” he snapped, his voice tight with frustration.
You narrowed your eyes, not letting him off the hook. “So what’s it for?”
Jake leaned forward, dropping his voice to a near whisper like he was plotting a heist. “It’s... you're over there looking all... attractive, and the waiter’s looking at you like he wants to take you home. And I—” He paused and muttered, “I’m the one who invited you here, okay? So technically, you’re my dinner guest. And I just feel like you shouldn’t be—”
“Did you just call me attractive?”
Jake froze. For a split second, his mind went completely blank. He’d said it without even thinking, and now that the words were out there, the whole table seemed to get a little bit warmer, a little bit more suffocating.
“Uh—” He fumbled, trying to backpedal. “No! I didn’t—what I meant was—” He cleared his throat, awkwardly adjusting in his seat.
You stared at him, eyes wide. “Jake... you’re an awfully jealous person today.”
He froze. Blinked. And then launched into a performance so bad it was almost impressive. “Jealous? Me? Oh my god, that’s so cute. That’s actually hilarious. I’m not jealous. You? Of you? Pfft. I just... look, I just think it’s unhygienic for strangers to salivate this close to raw meat, alright?”
He avoided your gaze and took a big gulp of his drink, probably hoping it would give him some answers. “Also, that guy was undressing you with his eyes.”
You gave him a flat look, raising an eyebrow. "And your solution to a perv is to throw a jacket over me like I’m some fragile piece of art in a museum?”
Jake kept his cool, eyes still avoiding yours. “I could go beat him up if you want,” he offered, not-so-casually.
You snorted, leaning back in your chair, slipping your hands into the sleeves of the jacket he’d thrown over you. “You're an idiot.”
—-
The next time Jake found himself questioning the entire fabric of his reality, it was in the kitchen of your shared apartment.
A totally normal evening.
Except not really.
Because you were sitting across from him in nothing but an oversized T-shirt and a smile, and Jake was experiencing what scientists might classify as a complete psychological collapse.
He wasn’t even sure what the hell the conversation was about. Jungwon was laughing about something, maybe a dumb meme or a cursed group chat screenshot, and you were giggling so hard you smacked Jungwon’s arm and nearly knocked over your drink.
Jake didn’t laugh. Jake stared.
Because every time you moved, your stupidly oversized shirt rode up a little, and your bare legs—the ones he absolutely should not be noticing—taunted him like they were sent from hell specifically to test his willpower.
He hated it.
No, actually—he hated you. Yes. That was the correct narrative. He hated the way you always left passive-aggressive sticky notes on his leftovers ("These are MINE. I will KNOW if you eat one. By you I mean JAKE SIM."). He hated you when you reorganized his entire snack drawer by vibe. (“The spicy chips are angry. They go in the red bin.” What did that even MEAN?)
He hated that you chewed ice. That you used a ten-step skincare routine that monopolized the bathroom for thirty minutes every morning. That you once referred to him as “the reason I believe in selective mutism.”
And yet… he was currently staring at your thighs like they held the secret to inner peace.
Jake looked away, clenching his jaw. What the hell was happening to him? Was this a stroke? Had you poisoned his food?
The next time he went absolutely bonkers was a few days later. He had to pee.
He pushed the door open without knocking, because this was his house and he had…welll…he had the rights.
And then.
He saw you.
Half-naked.
In your bra and underwear, bent slightly over the sink, drying your shirt with a hairdryer.
His brain short-circuited like someone had poured water directly into his skull.
His gaze dropped—just for half a second, a reflex—and immediately locked on your bare legs, and oh god, he hated himself. He spun around so fast he almost slammed into the door.
“OH MY GOD—SORRY!” Jake yelped, one hand covering his eyes like he’d been hit with a solar flare. “You—why—WHAT—why didn’t you lock the door?!”
You blinked at him in the mirror and chuckled, totally unfazed. “Oh shit. I forgot to lock it.”
“What is wrong with you?!”
“Me? You walked in,” you pointed out.
“You left it unlocked!”
“You could’ve knocked!”
“I shouldn’t have to knock in my own apartment! What are you doing half-naked drying your shirt in here?!”
“I spilled soda on myself.” You replied, nonchalant.
“I’M THE VICTIM HERE,” Jake yelled dramatically, still not turning around. “I just wanted to pee and now I’ve seen your underwear! I’ll never recover from this!”
You laughed again, breathless. “Relax. It’s just a body. You’ve seen legs before.”
A long beat of silence passed.
Jake slowly turned his head just enough to peek at the wall. “Are you, um...decent now?”
“Yeah,” you said, tugging your damp shirt back over your head. “Crisis averted. You can resume your regularly scheduled hate.”
Jake turned around cautiously. You were grinning, cheeks slightly pink, shirt clinging a little, hair a mess—and somehow, it was worse. Way worse. Because even like this, maybe especially like this, you looked unfairly adorable.
He stared at you for one second too long.
“Jake,” you said, raising an eyebrow, “are you...blushing?”
“No,” he snapped immediately, brushing past you with all the grace of a man running from his feelings. “Now get out, I need to pee.”
As he shut the door behind him, you called out, “You’re welcome for the free show, by the way.”
Jake groaned.
Out loud.
Into the void.
He was never going to recover.
—-
It all started with what Jake would later refer to—dramatically and with full PTSD—as The Saturday Incident.
He had spent the entire day in bed, pretending to do work, but actually doing what could best be described as “vague laptop clicking” and “aggressively avoiding you.”
You were out in the living room, probably plotting new ways to rearrange the furniture or alphabetize the spices by vibe again. He wasn’t going to risk interaction. Not when his heart had started doing these strange, erratic flips every time you were near. It was disorienting, this fluttering sensation that kept taking him by surprise. Honestly, he didn’t appreciate it. Didn’t appreciate whatever the hell was happening in his chest, because he'd never felt like this before.
The thought crossed his mind—maybe he should go see a doctor for a cardiogram. Heeseung had laughed in his face when he mentioned it, as if the idea of it being a medical issue was the funniest thing he'd ever heard. Jake didn’t get what was so funny, though. All he knew was that every time you entered the room, his heart seemed to forget how to behave, and he wasn’t sure that was something anyone could just laugh off.
So he stayed hidden.
Until there was a knock.
“Jake?” Your voice came through the door—soft, almost... sweet?
He stared at the door like it had personally betrayed him.
“Jake?” you called again, this time with a tone that made his brain short-circuit just a little. He sighed like a man being forced into labor and got up, preparing for whatever minor chaos you were about to deliver.
He opened the door.
And immediately wished he hadn’t.
There you stood. In a dress—a glittery, stupidly pretty dress he had never seen before. The tag was still dangling from it, and for some reason, that made it worse. Like you were a gift waiting to be unwrapped and oh no what the hell, brain, stop right there.
His mouth went dry.
His knees? Unreliable.
You were—unfortunately—gorgeous.
“Can you help me?” you asked, turning around.
And that’s when he saw it. Your bare back.
Jake died a little. Right there in the doorway. He whispered, barely audible: “F-fuck.”
“Huh?” you looked over your shoulder.
“I said—sure! Sure, totally, yep,” he said, voice cracking like a 13-year-old boy seeing shoulders for the first time.
He reached for the zipper like it was made of lava. His fingers brushed your skin and he physically flinched.
“You busy with work?” you asked casually, like this wasn’t slowly killing him.
“Yeah. Working. Doing... business things. Graphs.” Nailed it. “Are you, uh, going out?” He zipped faster, praying for this moment to end and also never end, confusingly.
“Nope.” You turned back around, smiling. “I just got this dress and wanted to see if it fit.”
Jake stared at you like he was watching the heavens open. “Oh,” he said dumbly.
“Besides, I was bored.” You laughed, brushing past him like this was your room, and plopped yourself onto his bed like it was no big deal.
Jake blinked. “You can’t just—don’t just walk into my room!”
“What? You hiding something?”
“Yes!” he said, voice a little too high. “I mean—maybe. You don’t know my life.”
You narrowed your eyes. “Let me guess. Secret stash of R-rated movies?”
“What?! No!”
“Love letters? Hidden shrine of an ex?”
“Oh my god.”
“Wait—you have love letters?”
“I don’t have any! Why are you like this?!”
You grinned. “Hard to believe. You’re, like, suspiciously single.”
Jake scoffed. “Suspiciously?”
“Yeah. You’re cute in a grumpy, emotionally constipated way.”
He blinked. “Did you just call me cute?”
“I mean, when you’re not yelling about laundry socks and acting like you’ve never heard of coasters.”
Jake’s face flushed. His lips twitched. A smile was fighting its way out, and he hated that you were winning. “You’re so annoying.”
“I’m a delight.”
“You’re hell personified.”
“And you,” you said, leaning back onto his bed, “are blushing.”
“I am not.”
“Jake,” you said, eyes twinkling, “your ears are red.”
He turned away, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “Okay, but—hold on. Why are you in my room anyway? All dressed up, all dolled up, all pretty.”
You raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of your lips. “Was that a compliment?”
“No.”
“You just listed three compliments,” you pointed out, your voice teasing.
“They weren’t compliments.”
“They sure seem like it.”
He stared at you—your ridiculous sparkle dress, your smug little smirk, the fact that you looked entirely too comfortable lying on his bed like you belonged there—and felt his heart do a full-body sigh.
Oh no.
Oh no.
He was in trouble.
Because he didn’t hate you at all.
—-
Jake had one goal tonight: get snacks, avoid feelings, don’t die.
He’d nearly made it to the kitchen—eyes forward, brain reciting his grocery list like a prayer—when he heard your voice.
“Jake?”
He froze like someone had hit pause on his life.
There you were, curled up on the couch with a blanket around your legs and a bowl of popcorn in your lap, looking... cozy. Cute. Normal. Like you weren’t the cause of 99% of his internal screaming today.
“Yeah?” he called over his shoulder, already bracing for disaster.
“Come watch this with me.”
Jake turned halfway, one hand still on the fridge. “What? No. Why would I wanna–”
You pouted. And he hated—hated—how fast his resolve crumbled at the sight of it.
“C’mon. Please? I’m lonely,” you said. “Jungwon’s not back for another hour.”
Jake audibly swallowed, “F–fine.”
Still, he sighed and walked over like a man approaching a guillotine.
He sat on the very edge of the couch, as far from you as possible. Like you might spontaneously explode and take him with you.
You blinked at him. “Why the fuck are you sitting miles away from me? I’m not gonna eat you.”
Jake’s ears went red so fast it was almost impressive. “I’m—just giving you space.”
You threw a popcorn kernel at him. “What, do I have cooties now?”
“No!” he blurted, then immediately regretted sounding like a panicked fifth grader. “I just thought—I mean, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
You tilted your head, amused. “I thought we were pass our enemy phase and in the ‘I-only-hate-you-when-it’s-convenient-phase.”
His heart stopped.
Jake stared at you.
“We are! I just–”
You shook your head and patted the seat next to you. “Come on. You're so dramatic. Sit like a normal person.”
Jake, against his better judgment and every self-preservation instinct, scooted closer. A little. Then a little more.
You tossed the blanket over his lap like it was the most natural thing in the world. “There. See? Not so scary.”
He sat stiffly under the blanket like it was radioactive, absolutely convinced he was going to die. His arm accidentally brushed yours and his brain lit up.
You leaned in slightly, focused on the screen.
Jake leaned back slightly, focused on not passing out.
And somewhere between the opening credits and the second kernel of popcorn you tossed at him “for flinching like a grandma,” Jake realized something horrifying.
He didn’t hate you.
At all.
And worse?
Instead, it was the absolute opposite. Maybe he liked you.
(Or had the biggest stinking fucking crush on you.)
Either way, these feelings were huge. And scary.
—-
Jake was fine.
Totally. Absolutely. 100% fine.
So what if he maybe thought about the way your shoulder brushed his during the movie? Or the fact that your laugh made his chest do weird twisty things? So what if you looked really cute in that dumb glittery dress and then even cuter in sweats and a bun with popcorn crumbs on your shirt?
He was fine.
No, he was lying. He was not.
Because Jake Sim didn’t do feelings.
Feelings were for wimps. For poets. For people with acoustic guitars and questionable Spotify Wrapped playlists. For people like Heeseung.
Not him.
Jake Sim was immune. Built different. Untouchable. Feelings? He left those at the door with his dignity and expired loyalty card points.
Which is why he was currently, aggressively, avoiding you like you were radioactive.
You walked into the kitchen? He walked out.
You tried to start a conversation? “I’m busy.” (He wasn’t.)
You reached for the chips? “Take it yourself.” (They were on the top shelf. You couldn’t reach. He still left.)
You asked if he wanted to hang out? “No thanks. Be alone. Bitch.” (He did not mean that. At all. And also whispered it when you were already out of earshot, afraid he’d hurt your feelings.)
He was strong. He was cold. He was emotionless steel wrapped in flannel.
Until—
“Jake?” you called from the hallway.
He glanced up from pretending to type on his laptop. “What?”
“Do you wanna go to the store with me? We’re all out of eggs.”
And like the absolute fraud he was, Jake—emotionless, avoidant, emotionally repressed Jake Sim—paused for 0.0000001 seconds before nodding.
“Yeah. Let me grab my shoes.”
Traitor.
He followed you out like a puppy who just got asked if he wanted a treat.
As you walked side by side through the aisles, Jake pushed the shopping cart like he was starring in the most generic romcom montage of all time, trying not to let his arm bump yours again because every time it did, his brain felt like it had just short-circuited.
But it was fine.
Totally fine.
He was definitely not thinking about holding your hand in the snack aisle.
Definitely not wondering if you'd let him try one of your gummies, even though he could buy his own.
Definitely not wondering if this was what it would feel like to be yours.
He wasn’t. He wasn’t thinking about any of that.
Nope.
Totally normal. Totally platonic.
He was so screwed.
It all started in the canned goods aisle. And honestly? Jake should’ve known the canned goods aisle brought nothing but bad luck. It happened in third grade when he tripped over his shoelace and fell into a container of perfectly aligned canned soups. It happened when he was trying to grab some mushroom soup for Jungwon when he was sick and ended up dropping the can right on his pinky toe, fracturing it.
And it’s happening again now.
You were just standing there, trying to decide between tomato basil and cream of mushroom, looking entirely too cute for someone who was making soup decisions. Meanwhile, Jake, trying to pretend he wasn’t watching you, was already making a mental list of things he could buy—anything to distract himself from his growing awareness that his brain was short-circuiting.
“Hey,” the guy said. “This might sound crazy, but... are you single?”
Jake turned his head so slowly you’d think someone had insulted his ancestors.
He was standing a few feet away, comparing granola bar sugar contents like a responsible adult, and now he was staring at this random man like he’d just asked to marry you in front of a priest.
You didn’t even seem fazed. You turned your head slightly, giving the guy the most nonchalant look, probably silently wondering if this guy had any idea how little he cared about his question.
Jake could feel the nerve in his temple twitch. The air between you and the guy became suffocating. Jake's hands flexed, holding onto the cart like it might need a good shove.
The guy, oblivious to the thunderstorm brewing a few feet away, “Just thought that you’re really cute, and I figured I’d ask.”
You blinked. “Oh! That’s—um—”
“She’s not,” Jake snapped, suddenly right there, standing next to you like he’d teleported in through sheer fury. “She’s very not single. Taken. Off the market. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.”
The guy blinked, taken aback. “Oh... are you two—”
“Together?” Jake interrupted, smiling like it physically hurt him. “Yeah. I’m her boyfriend.”
You glanced at him, his eyes glinting with that smirk of his. And then it hit you—he was playing this way too well. A little too well. You turned back to the guy, giving a dramatic gasp.
“Oh my God,” you said, suddenly faking an epiphany. “Babe, I didn’t even realize he was flirting. I was too busy thinking about how your hair looks so good today.”
Jake twitched.
You leaned into him with an exaggerated sigh, grabbing his hand like you were in some overly dramatic rom-com. “I’m so sorry. I’ll try to pay more attention when people are flirting with me. Would that be okay with you, my Jakey-wakey? My Jakey-kins? My love machine?”
Jake nearly choked on his own spit. “Okay. That’s enough.”
But you were on a roll. You turned to the stranger, practically glowing. “Isn’t he so cute when he’s protective? Ugh, he gets so territorial over me. It’s like his thing. Next thing I know, he’ll start growling and peeing in the aisles to mark me like his territory.”
Jake made a strangled sound, clearly regretting everything. “Please stop.”
You ignored him, fully leaning into the bit. “Honestly, I’m just waiting for him to pick out a leash for me next, y’know? Just to make sure everyone knows I’m his property.”
Jake made a strangled sound. “Please stop.”
You pressed your cheek to his shoulder. “Should we kiss?” You smiled, putting your arms around his shoulder.
And then, in what could only be described as a full-blown panic move, Jake spun around and ran.
Like, actually ran.
Through the snack aisle, dodging bags of chips and disgruntled shoppers, past the sample table, and out the store doors. It was as if he'd spotted an actual threat. You stared after him, holding his dignity in one hand and a can of soup in the other.
The stranger who had been casually eyeing you looked even more confused now, as if he’d witnessed a scene from a badly written TV sitcom.
You shrugged, trying to cover for the man who was now two aisles away, “My boyfriend can be a little bit crazy,” you muttered, laughing awkwardly as you began walking toward the door. You dropped the soup can on his foot. “See you!”
And without waiting for a response, you bolted out of the store after him.
“JAKE SIM, I’LL KILL YOU!” you yelled across the parking lot.
You found him pacing next to his car like a madman who’d just come to terms with the fact that he’d let his emotions spiral in public. His hands were in his hair, tugging like he was trying to physically yank his frustration out of his brain.
You marched up to him, heat rising in your chest, and the nerve to confront him. “Hey! You made me look like an idiot!”
Jake turned to face you, eyes wide, clearly surprised that you were actually following him. “You made yourself look like that!” he snapped, a slight edge in his voice.
“Oh, I wouldn’t have to if you stopped acting like my boyfriend around any man who approaches me!” You felt your hands on your hips, standing your ground like you were the queen of this absurd conversation.
Jake’s face froze, his brows furrowing in frustration. “You want freaks like him to approach you?”
“No?” you shot back. “But I’m perfectly capable of turning them down on my own.”
“I was just—” he began, floundering for a reason that was not his own mess.
“Was just what? Why do you keep doing this? Acting all weirdly jealous and protective!” you interrupted, genuinely curious now.
Jake exhaled, turning slowly, like the weight of this conversation was about to implode on him. His voice softened, his eyes wide, clearly caught off guard by your determination. “Because…” he started, his voice lower than usual, the words stumbling out like he was wrestling with a secret.
“Because what?”
He didn’t answer.
Just stood there—hands clenched, jaw tight, breath sharp.
Then suddenly—he dropped his arms like they weighed a ton. Like he couldn’t hold it in anymore. He ran a hand through his hair, pacing a single, desperate step before spinning back around to face you.
“BECAUSE!” Jake shouted, his voice louder than he intended. Your eyes snapped open wide, caught completely off guard.
Jake kept going—words spilling, frantic. “Because I don’t know what this is—whatever the hell you’ve done to me—but I can’t think straight. I can’t breathe when you look at me like that and I haven’t felt like this ever and it’s—it’s messing me up.”
His hands went to his temples. “Like fuck…I think I might need therapy. Like, actual therapy. Because of you.”
The air between you cracked—silence stretching heavy and tight.
You stared at him, voice soft now. “I– did I do something wrong?”
Jake dropped his hands, chest rising and falling like he’d just run a marathon. His face twisted, like he hated even having feelings, like letting them out was burning him from the inside.
Then—quieter. Broken.
“No,” he said. “Fuck, no. Quite the opposite.”
You stood frozen. “What?”
He stepped closer, eyes wild, voice raw.
“I don’t know what the fuck is happening to me, okay?” Jake snapped. His voice cracked, raw and strained like it had been clawing at his throat for days.
“You walk into a room and suddenly I can’t think straight. I forget how to function. I forget what I’m doing. It’s like my entire brain short-circuits just because you looked in my direction.” He raked a hand through his hair, pacing in a tight circle like he was trying to outrun his own thoughts.
“You drive me crazy. You laugh at things that aren’t funny, and you talk like the world’s ending if you don’t say it all right now, and you never let anything go—ever—and it’s infuriating. It’s exhausting. You’re exhausting!”
He turned, pointing at you like you were the cause of every malfunction in his soul.
“I shouldn’t care if you’re cold. I shouldn’t want to punch every guy who looks at you for longer than five seconds. I shouldn’t feel like I’m being electrocuted every time you accidentally touch me. That’s not normal. That’s not me. I’m Jake fucking Sim for crying out loud!”
He paused, chest rising and falling, eyes burning into yours.
“I don’t even like people! I liked hating you! I was good at hating you! And now I can’t sleep and I can’t think and all I do is wonder what you’re doing and if you’re thinking about me too and I—”
He broke off, swallowing hard.
Then softer, hoarse:
“I don’t know what this is. But I think I’m losing my goddamn mind over you.”
You stood there. Blinking. Heart somewhere near your ankles.
Jake had just... exploded. Confessed? Kinda? In the most Jake way possible—by yelling about how much he hated that he didn’t hate you.
“…Okay,” you said slowly, like someone trying to defuse a bomb with zero training. “So, like... just to clarify… you’re not mad at me. You’re mad because you like me?”
Jake stared at you like he couldn’t believe that was your takeaway. Like you’d just handed him a banana when he asked for a pen.
“I just—like, not to make this about me,” you continued, hands half-lifted like you were talking to a wild raccoon, “but that was a lot of yelling and you kinda sounded like you were about to fight me and propose in the same breath.”
He groaned, dragging his hands down his face. “Oh my god.”
You bit your lip. “So... um. Do you wanna kiss me or punch drywall? I just need to know what stage of emotional collapse we’re currently at.”
A beat.
“Like... if I lean in, am I getting kissed or concussed?”
He looked like he was seriously considering both.
You tried to smile. “I mean… thanks? For the mental breakdown, I think?”
He just blinked—still breathing like he’d sprinted through a breakup, a confession, and a public meltdown all in one afternoon.
Like he hadn’t decided yet whether to kiss you, cry, or walk into traffic.
Then, softer, you glanced up at him. Still unsure. Still trying to play it cool despite the fact that your heart was definitely trying to beat its way out of your chest.
“Like… I mean, I totally get why this would frustrate you,” you said, nodding seriously, like you were a therapist delivering a diagnosis. “Totally understandable. If I was going through what you were going through, maybe I’d be a little insane too. With, you know, healthier coping mechanisms, sure.”
Jake groaned, dragging a hand down his face. “You’re talking too much. Do you like me or not?”
You blinked. “Wow. Okay. No trigger warning?”
“I’m at my limit.” Jake sighed.
“Yeah,” you said. “That’s… kind of obvious. You’re, like, one sentence away from combusting.”
Jake pointed at you like he couldn’t believe what was happening. “I—God, this is so embarrassing. Let’s just pretend this didn’t happen.”
“I didn’t say I didn’t like you,” you muttered, looking away.
“You’re saying a whole lot of nothing,” he snapped.
You threw your hands up. “Well, I’m sorry I don’t have a perfectly rehearsed monologue ready! Some of us don’t process our feelings through public tantrums!”
Jake narrowed his eyes, “I yelled because I was panicking!”
“Well maybe don’t yell at someone who likes you, Jake!”
“You didn’t even say you liked me!”
“I was getting there!”
“You were stalling!”
“I was awkward!” you shrieked, pointing right back at him.
Jake threw his hands in the air. “Why are you the one acting like you just confessed your undying love through a full-blown breakdown?!”
A beat.
Silence.
Your faces? Bright red. Breathing like you just finished a cage match.
Then you exploded.
“FINE. YES. I LIKE YOU TOO, YOU PSYCHO!”
Jake froze. “You what now?”
You looked away, furious with yourself. “You heard me. I’m not repeating it. Take the win and choke on it.”
“That was the worst love confession I’ve ever received.”
You glared at him. “It wasn’t supposed to be one!”
“Well, it was horrible.”
“Yeah? Yours wasn’t exactly sonnet material either.”
You stared at each other. Still angry. Still flushed. Still… weirdly too close.
And somehow, despite all the yelling, all the sniping—
There was that thing in the air again. That pull.
Jake blinked. “...So are we dating now or what?”
You groaned. “Not like this, the fuck”
—-
The silence in the apartment was deafening.
Not literal silence—the kettle was whistling like it was being paid to, and someone’s phone was playing a YouTube video just loud enough to be irritating. But the emotional silence? The thick, suffocating, “we confessed our feelings and now we don’t know how to human anymore” kind of silence? Yeah, the two of you were losing it.
You were standing in the kitchen, arms folded, staring at the toaster like it had personally wronged you. Jake was sitting on the couch, holding a mug he wasn’t even drinking from, eyes glued to the television pretending to be absorbed.
Neither of you spoke.
The toaster clicked. You jumped like you’d been shot.
The two of you glanced at each other. You blinked at him. He blinked back.
Then immediately looked away, sipping his mug. The wrong end of the mug.
You narrowed your eyes. “You’re drinking from the side with the tag still in it.”
“I like the taste of paper sometimes,” he said without looking at you.
You tried. “So... uh, did you sleep okay?”
Jake nodded way too fast. “Yeah. Great. You?”
“Fine.”
“Cool.”
You stared at each other for another five seconds.
Then, at the exact same time:
“So, what are you—” “Do you want—”
Silence again.
You turned back to the counter, flustered. “This is so weird.”
Jake exhaled sharply. “You think?”
You glanced at him. “Well, I’m not used to openly... liking you or being I guess civil.”
“You’ve done a great job hiding it,” he muttered.
You smirked, falling back on habit. “Well, I am cuter when I’m emotionally unavailable.”
“I think it’s scarier when you’re emotionally available.”
You turned, arms folded. “So what, you prefer when I threaten you with kitchen utensils?”
Jake shrugged, leaning against the counter like he wasn’t seconds away from combusting. “At least I knew where I stood.”
And that? That shut you up real quick.
Because you both knew—you’d just entered new, terrifying, heart-melty territory.
And neither of you had a clue what the hell to do next.
—-
There was a sock on the floor.
A sock. On the floor.
His sock.
White. Crumpled. Mocking you from the hallway.
Something inside you snapped.
“SIM JAEYUN!” you shrieked, the kind of full-volume yell that summoned the fury of every past version of you who’d ever tripped over that man’s laundry.
Jake’s door opened slowly, like even it was afraid of you. He peeked out. Hair messy. Shirt hanging loose. Clueless. Hot. You hated him.
“...Yeah?”
“HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU TO PICK UP YOUR SOCKS—”
“I—”
“You what? This isn’t the first fucking time–”
“Ah, fuck it.”
You didn’t get to finish.
Jake stepped out. Two fast, easy strides.
And he kissed you.
Hard.
His hand found the back of your neck, fingers pressing gently yet desperately, as if he’d been aching for this moment, pulling you closer with a sense of urgency that couldn’t be ignored. Without hesitation, his lips met yours—no gentleness, no grace—just raw, impulsive need.
The hallway blurred.
You gasped against his lips, and he swallowed the sound whole. His other hand gripped your waist, pulling you flush against him, like he needed your body to make sense of the chaos in his head. The kiss was hot and heavy, all teeth and tongue and emotion that neither of you had known what to do with until now.
Your hands clenched around the fabric of his t-shirt, pulling him even closer, as if you were trying to tear the tension from his chest and claim it for yourself. Jake’s groan vibrated against your lips—low, desperate, and filled with something completely unrestrained. His hands dug into your waist, his grip tightening as if he couldn’t get enough of you. And then, with a sudden shift, he moved—forward, desperate, no longer willing to hold back.
In one swift, breathless motion, Jake pressed you against the wall, his body caging you in with just enough force to knock the air from your lungs. His hand gently cradled your jaw while the other slid down to catch your wrist, his fingers locking with yours as if the touch was a lifeline, something he couldn’t let go of even if he tried.
You gasped, the back of your head colliding softly with the wall, and Jake swallowed the sound, deepening the kiss like he was trying to consume you whole. The kiss turned hotter, more frantic—lips pulling, chasing, moving with an intensity that had been building for weeks and was now unleashed all at once.
Then, you squeezed his hand. Hard. Your body trembled with the force of it, like you needed something to hold onto before you lost yourself. And Jake felt it—felt the desperation in your touch. Without hesitation, he squeezed back, his thumb brushing over yours as he refused to let go.
For half a second, his forehead rested against yours, both of you gasping for air, and neither of you willing to pull away.
You blinked up at him, your mind still spinning from the kiss, disoriented.
“…I’ll pick it up,” you whispered, your voice softer than you intended. “The socks.”
You bent down, still avoiding his gaze, grabbing the sock off the floor. “Just... just put it nicely next time.”
You turned and walked back into your room, your legs unsteady as if they could no longer hold you together.
Jake stood in the hallway, frozen, his heart racing, his mind completely blank. He gripped the wall beside him like it was the only thing keeping him from collapsing. He hadn’t meant for this to happen. But it did. And now, he had no idea what to do with it.
—-
Jake hadn’t screamed your name like that since the glitter explosion 2 months back.
“WHERE’S MY RED FOLDER?!” he bellowed.
Before you could even think of a way out of this—or how to hide under the floorboards—Jake barged into your room. Hair still wet from the shower. His shirt hanging half-buttoned, like he’d walked straight out of a webtoon. Fuck, he was sexy. Not the time though because you were sure you were about to get beaten up.
He slammed the door open so hard that it bounced back off the wall with a sickening thud.
You gave him a nervous smile, your best attempt at pretending you weren’t about to die. “Don’t be mad…”
Jake’s voice dropped to a dangerous growl. “What did you do?”
“I… might’ve thought it was old,” you said, wincing at the honesty in your voice. “So I kinda... threw it away?”
Jake’s body went rigid. His eyes narrowed in disbelief.
“You what?!”
“I—” You stammered, hands raised defensively. “I swear it looked all crumply, all old and–and–and ruined!”
Jake stepped forward, eyes burning with anger. You could feel the heat of his fury radiating off of him—jaw clenched, fists tight by his sides, like he was about to explode. You knew this look. It was like he was one wrong move away from detonating.
And just when you thought the situation couldn’t get worse, you did the only thing you could think of.
You threw yourself at him.
Your hands grabbed his shirt, and before he could even get a word out, you yanked him down, your lips slamming into his with the force of a thousand thunderstorms. It was hard, urgent—so intense, so sudden, that it instantly shut him up.
Jake froze for a split second, like you’d short-circuited his brain, and then, just like that—he kissed you back. No hesitation. No holding back. You were already moving, pushing him backwards, your arms locked around his neck, drawing him closer, deeper. His lips tasted like desperation, like need, and it was all consuming.
You kissed him with everything you had, no holding back. No gentleness. Just the kind of hunger that had been building up between you two for far too long. Your lips moved together, fast, messy, and you felt him press into you, desperate to keep up. Every part of you wanted him—wanted him to feel the frustration, the desire, the rage that had been bubbling under the surface for weeks.
Jake groaned into your mouth, his grip on your waist tightening. You kissed him harder, faster, pressing him back against the wall until he was pinned, his breath ragged as you both gasped for air.
His hands found your thighs and, without a word, you jumped. Legs wrapping around his waist, you felt him catch you effortlessly, your bodies moving as one.
Then, with a sharp turn, he slammed you against the nearest wall, his lips never leaving yours. The kiss was relentless, like he was starving, like he needed to make you feel every part of him, every inch of his desire. His grip on your waist was bruising, possessive, and you responded in kind, tugging at his hair, pulling him closer.
Your mouths collided, chasing each other, moving too fast, too clumsily.
Jake pulled back only when you both couldn’t breathe anymore. Your foreheads rested together, breaths uneven, eyes wild and hungry.
He looked you over once, placed you back down on the floor, his expression unreadable, and then muttered, “...I’ll just rewrite it.”
And before you could process it, before you could say a word, he was gone. Leaving you breathless, in your own room, utterly wrecked—staring at the spot where he'd just completely destroyed every last bit of control you had.
—-
You were standing in the kitchen, Jake was at the sink, and the tension was so thick you could practically slice it with a knife.
“I don’t understand why you would move the dishes,” Jake snapped, gesturing like you’d committed an actual war crime. “I have a system.”
“You have no system,” you shot back, holding a spatula like a sword. “You just shove stuff in and pray the dishwasher works it out like divine intervention.”
“It does work it out!”
“Really? Because last week you melted a Tupperware lid onto a knife.”
“That was ONE TIME—”
You threw the dish towel down. “You’re such a control freak.”
Jake turned, dripping wet hands mid-air. “You alphabetized the seasoning rack. By aesthetic. I had to Google what "sage green" looked like.”
You huffed. “It’s about visual peace, Jake!”
He took a step closer. “You know what’s not peaceful? Living with a freak who organizes our spices!”
You stepped toward him, eyes locked, breathing hard. “Well you know what’s not sexy? Whining about spice jars!”
“Funny,” Jake growled, now chest to chest with you, “because I still want to kiss you right now.”
You both froze.
You were both holding something—him, a mug. You, a spatula. Neither of you blinked.
Then—at the exact same time—you both dropped them.
Clatter.
And lunged.
You collided in the middle of the kitchen, your mouths crashing together, the kiss so intense and fiery it felt like it could set the room on fire. His hands gripped your waist, pulling you into him like he couldn’t get close enough. You fisted your hands in his shirt, yanking him even closer, until there was nothing between you but shared breaths and weeks of pent-up frustration.
His kiss was desperate, furious, like he hated how much he wanted it, and yet couldn’t stop. Your lips moved together, teeth clashing, and you met his passion with equal intensity—biting his lip, tilting your head, the quiet sigh you let out making him groan into your mouth.
You were both angry, breathless, and so far gone you didn’t even care.
When you finally pulled apart, your noses brushing, your lips swollen and tingling, you both just stared at each other. Your hearts pounded.
Then, at the exact same time, you both asked, “...Are we boyfriend and girlfriend or what?”
There was a moment of silence, and then Jake pressed a kiss to your cheek, then your jaw, and then your neck, before pulling back with that signature smirk.
“Yeah,” he said softly. “I think we are.”
You grabbed the front of his shirt, yanked him back down, and kissed him again.
“Good. Now shut up and kiss me.”
Jake groaned into your mouth, his hands sliding to your back, pulling you even closer.
“God, I’m so in love with you, it’s actually disgusting,” he muttered, his voice full of both frustration and affection.
And for once, you couldn’t agree more.
—---
It was your first official date.
Like—an actual, real, human-first-date. No yelling. No post-argument makeouts. Just food. Chairs. Maybe eye contact if you were feeling brave.
You’d been dating for three days.
Which, so far, had consisted of:
Yelling at each other.
Making out.
Rolling your eyes at each other.
Making out again. Repeat steps 1–4.
Three days of chaotic tension. Of brushing shoulders in the hallway and pretending it didn’t set your whole body on fire. Of accidentally calling him “babe” and then gaslighting him into thinking he misheard you. Of Jungwon asking the two of you to shut up and stop arguing in the middle of the night. You weren’t arguing.
Three days of sharing the sink like civilized people, brushing your teeth side by side, totally normal, totally casual—totally not internally spiraling over the fact that your former arch-nemesis was now your boyfriend.
And then there were the quiet moments.
Like this morning, when you walked into the kitchen to find him already making coffee. He handed you a mug—black, just the way you liked it—and pretended he didn’t notice the way your fingers brushed.
You stared at it.
“What?” he said, avoiding eye contact. “I’m not a monster.”
You took a sip. “So you’re being nice to me now?”
Jake shrugged. “Don’t get used to it. I just don’t want to date someone who’s chronically dehydrated.”
You raised an eyebrow. “You’re worried about my water intake while you eat chips for breakfast.”
“Those chips had lime on them,” he said. “That’s vitamin C.”
Still, later that day, he also handed you a granola bar before you left the house. No comment. Just tossed it at your head with alarming accuracy and walked away.
And that was your boyfriend.
You, of course, were no better.
Like last night, when you walked past his room and saw him still hunched over his desk, blue light glowing off his face, glasses crooked, typing like he was trying to physically punch a thesis into existence.
You didn’t say anything.
Just stood there in the doorway for a second, watching the way his brows were furrowed in that hyper-focused, very-stupid, very-Jake way.
Then you glanced at the time. No dishes in the sink. Nothing in the trash.
He hadn’t eaten all day.
You scowled, muttered something about “men and their lack of survival instincts,” and turned straight into the kitchen.
Fifteen minutes later, you dropped a steaming bowl of his favorite ramen next to his laptop without saying a word.
Jake blinked up at you. “Did you—?”
You didn’t look at him. “Don’t pass out. It’ll be annoying to carry your unconscious body.”
Then you left.
Fast.
Too fast for him to say thank you. Too fast for him to see the way your lips twitched just slightly at the corners.
And then…
The next day, you were minding your business, scrolling on your phone, sprawled on the couch like the world owed you peace, when Jake casually walked in and dropped himself beside you—close, but not too close.
He cleared his throat once. Then again. Dramatically.
You glanced at him. “Are you dying?”
“Not today,” he said. Then added, without looking at you, “Wanna hang out tonight?”
You blinked. “Out where?”
He shrugged. “I dunno. Somewhere with food. Lighting. Chairs. That’s usually what dates have, right?”
Your eyes narrowed. “Was that you asking me out?”
Jake didn’t flinch. Just sipped his drink. “Depends. You gonna say yes?”
You stared at him for a long beat.
He stared at the wall like it was the most fascinating thing he’d ever seen.
Then, you smirked. “Only if you promise not to talk about tech stuff the whole time.”
Jake raised an eyebrow, lips twitching into a grin. “If you’re lucky, I’ll limit myself to only mentioning API twice before dessert.”
You squinted. “You’re really bad at this whole romance thing, aren’t you?”
He grinned back, impossibly confident. “And yet, here you are. Saying yes anyway.”
You rolled your eyes, your lips threatening to betray you with a smile. “Yeah, well, I make questionable decisions sometimes.”
Jake nudged your knee with his, grinning like he’d just won a gold medal. “You’re about to make another one. I’m picking you up at seven.”
You crossed your arms, trying to look unimpressed. “We live together.”
Jake leaned back, completely unbothered. “So? I can’t be romantic?”
You didn’t argue.
God help you.
You were kind of excited.
—-
This was your first date.
And you were spiraling.
You had changed your outfit three times. Reapplied your lip balm five. Stood in front of the mirror giving yourself a pep talk like you were about to go on national television.
Jake was downstairs.
Wearing cologne and Jake never wore cologne.
When you finally met him outside, Jake blinked at you like you'd just materialized from a dream. His eyes widened, then quickly darted away, as if he could avoid the full force of your impact.
“You clean up okay,” you teased, trying not to smile too wide.
He opened his mouth, clearly trying to recover, but it came out wrong. “You look... pretty.” He froze, his face turning a shade of red that should’ve been illegal. Then he scrambled, “I mean, uh, shitty.”
“I heard you the first time, Jake,” you said, tapping his face lightly, almost affectionately. “So do you.”
—-
“Stop stealing my fries.”
“I’m not stealing. I’m redistributing.”
“Stop that! It’s not my fault I ordered curly fries and you got regular fries.”
“And I regret it. Let me live.”
You were about to launch into a full rant about Food Boundaries when your foot brushed his under the table. Then his knee. Then his thigh.
Neither of you moved.
And then—like gravity just snapped—you were both leaning over the table. French fries abandoned. Eyes locked. Breaths syncing. Heat crawling up your neck.
Jake reached out, brushed a hair from your cheek, his fingers lingering just a second too long.
You stared at his lips. He stared at yours.
Oh, you were so going to kiss in this grimy diner booth, and it was going to be beautiful and stupid and you didn’t even care.
And then—
“Well, well, well.”
You both froze.
Standing next to the table, milkshake in hand, eyes wide with the smuggest expression on Earth: Jungwon.
Jake sat up like someone just caught him cheating on a test.
You blinked. “Jungwon! Hi! What a surprise!”
Jungwon glanced between the two of you. The blushing. The weird knee situation. The shared fries. The vibes.
He sighed, long and dramatic.
Then took a sip of his milkshake and said—
“Fuck. Now I gotta move out.”
And with that, he turned and walked away.
Jake looked stunned. You stared after Jungwon in horror.
“Do you think he’s gonna tell everyone?” you whispered.
At that exact moment, both your phones buzzed in unison—a notification from Jungwon’s Instagram, tagging both you and Jake.
“That answers our question.” Jake replied.
You looked at him.
He looked at you.
And under the flickering diner lights, knees still touching under the table, Jake reached across and laced his fingers through yours. He glanced at your intertwined hands, then at your face.
“God. I think I actually really like you.” he muttered, like it physically pained him.
You didn’t even blink.
“I hope the fuck you do. I’m literally your girlfriend.”
Jake groaned, slumping back into the booth like you just personally ruined him.
“This is so humiliating.”
You grinned, squeezing his hand.
“Yeah. For you.”

“Finally…”
You nearly collapse near your front door. A whole week of your life. Gone. To what you ask? Dealing with wanderers on a special aid mission. Sure sure, the job paid well but it had been weeks since your last off day. Every time it seemed like one was around the corner here they go with some emergency call and a spill about how some rich politician needed help or something.
You were starting to get tired of cleaning up other people’s mistakes.
You fumbled with your keys, fingers numb from the biting cold. The wind whipped around you, making you shiver as you tried to fit the right key into the lock. Your breath came out in visible puffs, and you could feel the frustration building with each failed attempt. Finally, with a relieved sigh, you heard the click of the lock turning.
The still warm air is such a welcoming contrast to the wind and biting cold outside. You quickly shut your door and melt to the floor, your feet aching with relief as the pressure you had been putting on them subsided. Peace at last. Time for a hot shower an-
Your peace was cut short with the distinct tone of your phone ringing. And not just any ring tone. The one you had set specifically for a certain white haired man that only ever brought trouble. Wondering if you should even pick up, you bring the phone to your face, knowing that you were going to answer regardless.
“Sylus…I’m really tired. Can we talk lat-"
“Long time no see kitten. You should stop by for a bit, hm?”
You roll your eyes, suppressing the urge to scoff out loud. Arrogant prick, you think, irritated by his inability to let you finish a sentence without interrupting. How did he even know you were home now?
You sigh deeply, feeling the tension building, and rub your temples to alleviate the mounting frustration. No, you tell yourself firmly. You wouldn’t put up with this today. Maybe another day, but definitely not today.
"Actually, no. I just returned from a week-long aid mission. Not today," you say firmly, aiming to be clear and resolute in your decision to stay put. Sylus however, seems to sense the cracks in your resolve and only responds with a chuckle.
“I want to see you. I’ll have Luke and Kieran come get you since you’re so tired”.
“Hu-”
“See you soon. They’re en route. Ciao”
The phone clicks, signaling the end of the call. For whatever reason, your ever growing frustration simply dissipates, defeat taking its place. You should be used to this by now. Sylus always gets what he wants. And you always let him. It goes without saying that it’s the same way for you as well. At least, Sylus always gives you what you want if it doesn’t interfere with his need to lay his eyes on you at least once in awhile. He knew that you wouldn’t push this though. You both knew.
Deep down, you wanted to see him too.
You asked Luke and Kieran to wait outside for a bit while you took a brisk shower and freshened up. Those two had always been very patient and understanding. You felt bad “bossing” them around, and yet they always insisted that you could. Though Luke had admitted on one occasion that he never expected to be helping a girl find hair ties or carrying shopping bags while working for Onychinus.
The statement had made you laugh a bit. You finally finish dressing in some plain sweats and rush to the car. Luke and Kieran are waiting outside of a dark colored jeep. Not too flashy as to not draw attention, but it was still clearly very expensive.
“Actually miss, Boss wanted you to wear these” Luke says, holding out an expensive looking dress. Clearly designed by hand and tailored to your measurements. Kieran follows his lead, holding out a box containing a pair of earrings and a lavish looking necklace.
“Huh? What’s this for? A date?”
“Business. That’s all he said” Kieran chimed in. Although you couldn’t see their faces, you knew they had no reason to lie to you about this.
“Ah. Dragging me into more trouble. Got it”.
When the three of you finally arrived to the location, the sun had already set for the day. You darted your eyes back and forth, squinting above at the bright neon sign of the establishment.
“We’re not going to the N109 Zone? This is a nightclub…” you mutter, taken aback by the unfamiliar surroundings. When did this even get here? There were plenty of clubs in Linkon of course, but you never seemed to notice this one. Not that you knew much about the night life to begin with. People were lined up at the entrance, chatting, fixing makeup, or texting.
“Boss wants you here. He’s waiting inside. Enjoy your time miss” Luke said, amusement written all over his tone. He gets out of the passenger seat to open the door and lend you a hand. You rolled your eyes, not wanting to appear shaken up by the situation. Sylus was always full of surprises. This was no different, act confident.
At least, that’s what you tried to tell yourself. After getting almost immediate entrance into the club with just a simple nod from the guard, you enter. As you walk inside the club, Luke and Kieran not far behind you, you can tell this was no ordinary night club. Everyone here was dressed lavishly and sharp, clearly possessing power and ulterior motives. A few eyes lay on you as you walk in, and you feel your hands start to sweat.
Keep cool. This isn’t the first time you’ve been around high ranking individuals. This is probably some test he set up…right? Or some kind of joke to get a laugh?
Clenching your fists, your eyes dart and search for a tall figure with white hair, feeling more nervous by the second that you don’t see him. You’re about to turn around and ask one of the twins, but at last your gaze settles on him, sipping on a glass of Gin Fizz. He’s sitting in a velvety booth by himself, people watching. He’s wearing his black button up with red streaks across it, coat hanging on his shoulders per usual. As if he felt you staring, his eyes shift to meet yours. He sets down his glass, giving you you a small smirk. His eyes narrow, sending a very clear message.
Come here.
As if you were suddenly possessed, your feet seem to start moving on their own. You weren’t sure if you were relieved to see him or if it was just the relief of seeing a familiar face in an unfamiliar place. You take a few deep breaths as you approach, readying your witful replies to any of his attempts to make fun of you. Without making any sound or looking at him, you quietly slide in next to him.
“You look nice. Seems I was right about this look on you” Sylus says, taking another sip of his drink. His eyes wander up and down behind the glass, seemingly devouring you. You squirm under his gaze.
“Hm. Thanks. This gift is the least you can do after dragging me to do whatever you want on a whim once again” you scoff, eyeing the full glass that sits on the table. It’s another glass of Gin Fizz, probably for Sylus. There’s three other very empty glasses on the table.
This man can definitely hold his alcohol.
He chuckles, taking a finger and pushing the glass of Gin closer to you.
“Don’t be like that sweetie. Loosen up a bit, you’ll need it”
“For what exactly? Business?” you mock, picking up the Gin. You didn’t exactly like the taste of this particular alcohol of choice but Sylus was right about one thing. Some liquid courage was definitely needed for whatever shenanigans he was dragging you into tonight.
“Yeah. Figured I could use Linkon’s darling Miss Hunter as backup” Sylus chuckles, watching you nearly choke as you take three big gulps of the drink. You squeeze your eyes in disgust as you finish the rest of the glass, shooting a death glare in his direction as you set it down.
“You’re perfectly capable. Don’t mock me Sylus”. You grit your teeth in irritation, almost ready to rip him to shreds with your words. Clearly your tone has no effect on him though, as all you get in return is a soft smile. Sylus places a hand on your upper leg, slowing sliding his fingers under your dress. You gasp, the coldness of his fingers making you twitch a bit. The warmness of your skin mixed with his cold touch makes the sensation feel like icy fire.
“Or what? You’ll use this on me?” he smirks, tugging on the concealed gun strapped under your dress. “I’m all for it honestly”
You slap his hand away, the woozy feeling from the Gin Fizz starting to kick in. What was in this drink? It was strong. Too strong.
“Pervert. Always touching me, making fun of me. Maybe I will shoot you. Again.” you growl, turning your head away from him. You attempt to scoot away as well, but are met with a strong grip around your waist as you’re pulled into closer proximity with him. Sylus grabs your chin and lifts it towards his face. He leans down a bit, the smell of alcohol and his bourbon vanilla cologne making you feel even more dizzy.
“You can put your claws away now kitten. Don’t make me have to melt your little tantrum away” he coos, gently caressing your face with his thumb.
You stare at him, dumbfounded, desperately searching your sluggish brain for a comeback but finding yourself too flustered to form any words. The look in Sylus’s eyes shifts from a smug expression to a much softer, almost tender gaze, and you wonder what his next move will be. Your face starts to burn as you feel heat rising in your core, your heart pounding in your chest. Panic sets in as you consider the possibilities, your mind racing with the fear of what might come next.
Don’t tell me he’s going to…?!
"You're so...confusing" you mutter.
You’re just about to try and squirm from his grip, when Luke and Kieran tap on the table, catching yalls attention.
“Boss man, Val says he’s ready for ya” Luke says, nonchalantly ignoring the scene that’s displayed in front of him. Sylus releases your face, his face going serious again. He gets up, reaching out a hand to help you out of the booth.
“Time for business, sweetie”
You’re guided by the twins and Sylus past the sweaty bodies on the dance floor to a somewhat hidden room located downstairs. The area the stairs led to was blocked off by a singular rope, clearly only meant for a select crowd.
In the room there’s a long black table, cards and chips all over it. There’s a few prominent figures already seated, along with a few bodyguards standing near the door. Sylus pulls a seat out for you, before taking his own. You study the figure that’s sitting at the head of the table as you sit. He’s short, a bit chubby, dark hair, smoking a cigar. A scar sits angrily on his forehead and you wonder what kinda grudges led to such an injury. He notices you looking at him, and gives you a devilish grin. Some of his teeth are crooked or missing.
All that money and he can't fix his smile?
You shudder. Sylus looks over at you, and back to the man at the head of the table. He’s reading you, clearly sensing your nervousness. He says nothing, simply reaching a hand over to rest on your thigh.
“Was starting to think you were going to keep me waiting Sylus. Seems you didn’t run after all” he laughs, wheezing a bit as he takes another puff of his cigar. You wrinkle your nose a bit as the potent smell hits your senses.
“I couldn’t turn down a game of cards with my dear old friend” Sylus says, irritation coating the last word. “Let’s keep things civil this time, hm Valentino?”
Valentino bursts into laughter, clearly amused. Despite his laughter, you couldn’t ignore the murderous tension in the air. Something tells you this isn’t any regular game of cards. You gulp, trying to force yourself to look at everyone at the table and smile.
“Well hello little lady. Sylus, you didn’t tell me you kept such gorgeous company…” Val says, his eyes snaking all over your body. You feel Sylus squeeze your thigh, clearly irritated. He pulls out a coin from his coat pocket, seemingly trying to channel his frustrations into something else.
“You know I’m not really the type to share, Val. She’s all mine. Down to every single strand of hair”. Sylus ends, catching the coin and shooting a glare in the man’s direction. It was plain, but conveyed a message very well.
You feel your palms start to sweat. Was he being serious right now?? You side eye him, trying to piece out whether or not this was some kind of facade you’re supposed to play into. Valentino clearly takes Sylus’s words as a challenge.
“I’ll give you twenty million for her. Maybe fifty million if you make her give us a little strip show. What do ya say? She looks so soft. Probably makes cute noises too…~” he chuckles, likely enjoying the look of surprise that washes across your face.
Sylus remains quiet, his face unmoving, frozen in a pissed glare. You don’t know if it was the alcohol you drank earlier, or if it was some inkling of an attempt to dissipate the tension, but you clear your throat and begin to speak.
“Well Sylus? You can share can’t you? It’s quite the generous offer Mr. Valentino. I’m quite flattered actually.” you express, putting on your best smug look. Sylus stiffens, a somewhat shocked expression washing over him. Valentino erupts into yet another fit of laughter, seemingly unable to contain himself. Turning to look back at Sylus, you see it in his face briefly. An uncaged look of rage before it quickly dissipates.
Shit. Shouldn’t have said that.
Far too late to stop now though.
“You heard the lady Sylus. Why don’t you try sharing just this once? What I would give to taste that sweet little body of he-”
Sylus slams a revolver on the table, then calmly starts picking up cards from the deck.
"I'd suggest you stop talking and start playing the game, Mr. Valentino," Sylus snarls, his words dripping with venom. The fury in his voice is palpable, and it's clear he's reached the end of his patience.
You give Val a sly look, feigning pity. “Ah, sorry Valentino. Seems this one can’t quite let me go yet”. You don’t know what you were trying to achieve, but it’s certainly not working to dissipate any tension. Val doesn’t respond to you though, all his focus on Sylus now.
“My dear friend. You should know me by now. There’s something I’m much more interested in now than some money. Now I want the girl, or nothing”.
Valentino wears a shit eating grin on his face, soaking in the fact that he thinks he’s gained some control of the situation, unaffected by the gun on the table. Sylus simply sighs, rubbing his fingers against the temple of his forehead.
“I see where this is going then”.
You barely process what’s happening before everything and everyone starts moving. As soon as Sylus begins to stand, Valentinos guards start shooting. Sylus wastes no time flipping the large table, sending the cards and game chips flying everywhere. You yelp as he yanks you towards him using his body and the table to shield the oncoming attack of bullets. You hear Luke and Kieran joining in the frenzy, yelling obscenities as they begin shooting their own hidden weapons.
You swiftly reach for the weapon concealed beneath your dress, your fingers brushing against the cool metal as you draw it out. Turning to face Sylus, you ready yourself for his instructions, your body tense with anticipation. Instead of giving you orders, he locks eyes with you, his gaze piercing through you with an intensity that feels like it's reaching into your very soul. The silence is heavy, charged with unspoken tension as bullets whip past the both of you, and you can feel your heartbeat quicken in response.
“I need you alive for what’s coming sweetie. Pay attention, stay close”
You blink. Twice. Unable to process his words before he yanks you both up, one hand using his evol to send the table crashing into several bodyguards. The four of you fight your way through the onslaught of people coming into the door, before eventually dashing up the stairs. People are running in all directions, seemingly caught up in the chaos of everything. You all manage to make it out the door and into the brisk cold air, the twins quickly hopping into the car to whisk you away.
“Go on, I’ll catch up soon” Sylus states, hurriedly pushing you into the car and slamming the door before you could protest. He signals Kieran to drive off, and that he does.
“He’s…going to level the building. Isn’t he?” you sigh, sighing at the fact that Sylus seemed to conveniently forget that this was in fact not the lawless land of the N109 Zone. No doubt the Hunter’s Association would have to investigate for potential wanderer activity, and that would be a lot of paperwork.
"It's fine. He owned that place anyway. He'll just build another," Luke says, his voice calm and unbothered. Just as the words leave his mouth, a deafening boom erupts behind the car, shaking the ground beneath yall. The explosion's shockwave rattles the windows, and the sky lights up with a fiery glow, cutting off Luke's next sentence mid-breath.
You groan.
The twins did drive you to the N109 this time, swiftly helping you out the car and into Sylus’s private villa. When you entered the front door, a nightgown and lacy underwear were laid neatly out for you in his room, your arrival clearly anticipated.
It wasn’t more than an hour before Sylus waltzed in the front door, eyeing your slouching figure on the couch. You sit up as soon as you see him, still somewhat annoyed.
“What took you so damn long? Also do you have to level every building you come across?” you spat, glaring at him. He says nothing though, walking straight past you and into his room.
“Huh? Sylus?? What the hell…”
Not liking the feeling of being ignored, you hurriedly chased after him. You had never really been uncomfortable barging into his room. You had done it plenty of times at this point, the first time being when he had challenged you to steal the brooch from him. No point in being shy now. He’s fumbling with something in his drawer when you reach up to tap his shoulder.
“Sylus! Don’t ignore me, I know you ca-”
He swiftly turns around, grabbing your wrist before you can touch him. His gaze is unreadable, cold even. You start to sweat, trying to take your arm back. But he only squeezes tighter.
"I was hoping you'd leave me be so I could calm down. But of course you're as petulant as ever" he says.
"Let go! What's wrong with you!?" You attempt to remove his hand from your wrist but he doesn't budge.
“Go to the bed. Place your hands on it” he says, face unchanging.
“Huh??”
“I don’t like to repeat myself”.
You freeze for only a moment before quickly moving to the bed. You meticulously put your hands where instructed, something deep in your core telling you that it’s likely best to listen for now. However, you can’t help to look over your should to quip at Sylus. You’re slightly bent at an angle, trying your best to keep your balance.
“What’s this about? I’m not that upset that you reduced the building to rubble”
Sylus snakes his way behind you, quietly, as if thinking of what to say. He reaches out a hand, grabbing the ends of your nightgown and moving the soft fabric around in his fingers. You feel the heat rise to your face, the skin of your ass feeling a slight gush of cold air.
“You like playing games with me, don’t you? Testing me” he says coldly, fingers trailing up the back of your legs slowly. You shiver, attempting to squirm away. His evol appears around you, its tight grip making you cry out.
Oh. This was about that.
“Huh?? No, I was just playing along. Just friendly banter yknow?” you say, voice wavering. You’ve clearly pissed him off. A part of you knows it’s a slight lie. You didn’t want to admit it out loud but it was kind of amusing to see Sylus get so riled up over something. Over you especially. But you hadn’t exactly done it fully on purpose. It was the alcohol.
But you knew he wasn’t buying it, as observant as he was.
“Sure. You were just pretending to act like a stray kitten trying to find a new owner?” he smirks, his fingers beginning to trace circles over the cloth of your panties. You let out a small whine, his touch just barely grazing your already wet cunt.
“Owner? I don’t belong to you. Or anyone” you scoff, the resolve in your voice wavering with every little circle he completes on your skin. You almost whine in disappointment when he pulls away.
“And yet…” Sylus trails off, leaving you with aching curiosity before you’re met with stinging pain on your ass. You cry out, unable to move with his evol still snaked around you. “You did exactly what I told you to do just now, wear the clothes I leave out for you, and practically melt everytime I even barely touch you”.
“Sylus?! What the hell was that…?!” you exclaim, trying your hardest to process his words and the situation at hand. He doesn’t respond, proceeding to gently caress the spot where he smacked you. The stinging pain gently eases away, and you feel yourself relaxing with his touch once again. He once again trails his fingers down to your clothed pussy, rubbing slow and meticulous circles around it. You start to whine, attempting to push yourself into his fingers for more friction. He pulls his hand away, making a disapproving sigh.
“Acting like you’re in heat per usual” he chuckles, watching as you wiggle around under the grip of his evol. “This is a punishment”.
“For what? Cause I let some sick and ugly looking crime boss think he had a chance with me?”
Sylus wastes no time bringing his hand to your ass again, earning another painful whine out of you. You feel tears forming in your eyes that you can’t wipe away. He’s certainly not holding back his strength, and yet you know this isn’t even a third of the force he could use on you.
“For entertaining him” he says plainly.
Another smack.
“Another for stupidly handing over your life, body and soul for a measly twenty million”
An even harder hit, this one fueled by rage.
“And lastly…”
You nearly choke as he delivers the final blow, your ass definitely bruising by now. Sylus offers no comfort this time, instead leaning down next to your crying face, breath hot against your ear.
“For forgetting that you belong to me, just as much as I belong to you. Kindred spirits remember?”
You have no chance to respond before he’s flipping you on your back, your nightgown flying up to reveal your wet panties.
“I-im sorry, Sy” you choke, tears blurring your vision.
“Show me then, sweetie. Spread your legs. Wide” he instructs, reaching up to brush your tears away. This isn’t done lovingly, more like calculated and cold.
This is far from over.
You silently but shakingly open your legs, your ass still painfully aching from his assault. You’re surprised when he doesn’t rip your underwear in two, choosing to rather peel them off your legs slowly. You notice the hunger in his eyes as he does so, as if savoring the view of your cunt at his fingertips. A small drop of arousal pools down your ass, and Sylus scoops it up with one finger.
You watch as he puts his finger in his mouth, savoring the drop of you with swiftness. His piercing gaze never leaves yours though, and you want to suddenly run away and hide. This is beyond thrilling, but you try your best to remain as still as possible, scared that he’ll think you’re enjoying it too much and punish you accordingly.
You suddenly can’t take the tension anymore, and close your eyes. You hear the sound of Sylus removing his belt from its loops, then the loud clang as it hits the floor. You feel the bed shift as he lowers himself over you, his face stopping just inches over yours, indicated by the sudden feel and warmth of his breath. He grabs your face in his hand and squeezes your jaw. Hard.
“Look at me kitten” he commands, his tone filled with unkempt rage and anger. Your eyes fly open, terrified.
“I’m the only one that will ever taste you. Repeat it” he says. Before you can get a word out, he’s pushing the fat tip of his cock in your entrance. You cry out in agony, nowhere near ready to have been penetrated. But he doesn’t stop filling you.
“Repeat it. Or I’ll hit you again. Do you want that?”
“You’re t-the…ah!” you whine, his cock halfway inside you at this point. Your poor cunt feels like it’s being impaled, splitting pain soaring through your core.
“Try again”
You let out a whimper, trying your best to push through the pain and put thoughts into words.
“You’re the oh-only one that gets to taste me” you choke out, voice wavering and your eyes teary. Sylus gives a hard thrust, pushing the rest of his length inside you. You cry out again, feeling like you’re on the verge of passing out. Sylus seems unmoved by your outbursts though.
“And?”
You stare at him, barely able to see his face through the tears. What? What does he mean and? He didn’t say anything else did he?
“Hu-what?”
You hear him sigh with disapproval, giving you yet another hard thrust. And another. And another. You’re clinging onto his back now, nails digging into his skin as the sound of the bed creaking and your pants fill the room. Blood has probably been drawn on his back, not that he’d even notice. You can hear him grunting in your ear, clearly enjoying the feeling of you tightening around him when you tense from the pain. Although it still hurts, you can feel yourself accumulating to the shape and size of his length, and the pain lessons a bit more with each thrust. He stops once again, tilting your face in his grip.
“What did I say you forgot? Or is this kitten filled with too much cock to think straight now?” he mocks. You can hear the smile on his face despite not being able to see him clearly. Heat creeps up on your cheeks as you wrack your brain for answers.
“I-you…we’re kindred spirits?”
“Before that sweetie”
You blink the tears on your face away, your vision becoming a bit more clear. Although he’s still gazing down at you, his expression is not as angry as before. Seems he’s gotten a bit of his pent up anger out now.
“I belong to you, Sylus” you say, voice small and whiny from crying. That’s definitely what he wanted to hear, as he began to pepper kisses on your neck, on your cheek, and eventually resting on your lips. You greedily return his affection, leaning into this feverish kiss, the both of you only periodically stopping to pant for air between kisses. He stops, resting his forehead with yours, gazing into your eyes once more.
“And I belong to you. What’s mine is yours. All of it”
You don’t get a chance to respond before he’s thrusting again, this time with a continuous and steady pace. You cling onto him, the exchange of flowery words and rigorous thrusting already bringing you on the verge of ecstasy. Sylus already noticed long before you did though, as he brought his hand between the two of you, circling your clit further your stimulation.
“Go ahead, come undone for me” he whispers, voice strained for nearly being at his end too. Your body obeys, unraveling and writhing with pleasure as Sylus continues to pound into you. You ride your orgasm to its end, till the touching of your clit becomes too much and you whine from overstimulation.
“Sylus…!” you moan, and he stops, already at the start of his own climax. You shudder as you feel him spill into you, his seed immediately beginning to pool down your cunt and to your ass. He pulls his heavy cock out of you, a feeling of emptiness taking its place. For a moment nothing is said, just the sound of the both of you catching your breath.
You decide to break the silence.
“Sylus…I’m really sorry” you start, looking up at him. He simply chuckles, placing a kiss on your cheek before getting up to grab a rag from the bathroom.
“You’ve taken your punishment quite well, why are you apologizing again sweetie?” he says from the bathroom, coming back to wipe you clean. You scoff, slightly tensing from the coldness of the cloth.
“Hmph. Fine, I take it back then. I’m holding a grudge anyways for how hard you hit me”
He simply sighs as he finishes wiping you up. “Back with the infamous wit already? Can’t a man catch a break?”
You sit up, feeling emboldened once more.
“Nope. Maybe don’t hit me with the strength of a thousand suns next time and we’ll see”
Sylus tosses the rag in a laundry basket, making his way back to your side. He pulls you into his arms, embracing you in his warmth. You can’t help but smile against his chest.
“Well, good thing I have all night to make it up to you”
You lightly pinch his side, giggling into his embrace. A question crosses your mind.
"Did you mean it Sylus? We belong to each other?"
Sylus took your face in his hand, giving you a slight smile.
"I don't say stuff I don't mean. You know this"
That's the furthest he was willing to explain it. At least for now. Who knows what kind of power trip would ensue if you truly knew how much you had the big bad leader of Onychinus wrapped around your finger.

˚༄࿔ more singer ellie (ft. actor reader) headcanons
warnings! happiness and fun.
⭐︎ you know that one video of oscar isaac and jessica chastain? yeah ellie likes doing that when you two are on red carpets together. she’s shameless and lovessss to show you off, especially when you’re feeling hot.
⭐︎ likes to take 0.5s or other unflattering photos of you during commerical breaks at award shows. she likes to post them for your birthday or anniversary (to keep you humble of course).
⭐︎ she likes you to star in her music videos. especially if they’re short films or otherwise telling a story. if you’re fem(me) she loves when you have a hyper-feminine vibe or if you’re more masc she thinks it’s so hot to butch out with you. her videos are essentially thirst traps but she’d never admit it.
⭐︎ AND the fans absolutely eat up the bts of the music videos. you like to bring a camera to set to film her. cute videos of her getting her makeup touched up and smirking at the camera saying hi baby. or silly ones of her talking in a thick southern accent dressed as a cowboy saying something like howdy, partner.
⭐︎ pre-eras tour ellie says that she isn’t a swiftie but you drag her along to the concert and catch her doing a frat-flick during we are never ever getting back together. (also she heard champagne problems live she became evermore’s #1 fan!)
fans see her too and definitely give her friendship bracelets and post videos of her dancing to tiktok. the masses are saying that ellie and taylor need to collab (no matter how different their music styles are).
⭐︎ speaking of ellie liking taylor swift she loves to hype up the other music girls. she was definitely spotted at chappell’s gov ball set wearing heart sunglasses and screaming after midnight. i feel like she’d dream of collabing with sabrina carpenter and being freaks together. ALSO megan the stallion is her biggest celebrity crush like watch out if she ever meets her it’s over for you two. specifically loves big ole freak.
⭐︎ sings with joel all the time. whether he’s famous or not (nepo ellie?) he’s featured on at least one of her songs. they’d definitely do a cover of like country roads, take me home or something.
⭐︎ you two would somehow end up doing like a wired autocomplete interview together and they have to cut the footage because you two are flirting or just being silly together. like pedro pascal and oscar isaac’s but romantic.
⭐︎ there are definitely some paparazzi photos out there of her looking just straight up silly lol. i’m talking one of those i’m not a gynecologist but i’ll take a look shirts, huge ass adam sandler shorts, mismatched socks, and crocs. and she’s like on a grocery run or walking a dog or something.
⭐︎ has done calvin klein or perfume ads that have people going crazy. close ups of her eyes and her tattoo. in a sports bra. hair slightly slicked back.
⭐︎ your biggest fan ever when you win awards. full standing ovation, kissing you all over before you can actually go on stage and collect the award. will post a picture of you two at like dennys or some 24/7 diner post-oscars. your hair and makeup messy. you’re wearing her blazer. the trophy sat next to you on the table. and the caption is like so proud of my girl.
⭐︎ if you kept your relationship private before getting married the internet would lose their shit. like you post a singular picture of her, tattoo peaking out from under her suit, ring on full display and hand wrapped around your waist. saying something like best day of my life with the best wife(!!).
⭐︎ i think she’d love sending edits of you, herself, or both of you to you. she’d be like babe we’re so hot. (if you have opposite aesthetics people definitely edit you to style by taylor swift!)
⭐︎ she’d probably get her instagram password taken away after posting like it was her spam account. like maybe she unintentionally spoils a new movie you’re in by posting a bts photo of you in her photo dump.
⭐︎ no matter how famous she gets, black converses will always be her go-to performance shoe. and she wears them to the DEATH. it doesn’t matter if you buy her a new pair she will wear the old ones until the sole is falling off and then she will wear the new pair. her fanbase definitely jokes about this similarly to how the tlou fandom does. like tiktoks of the most fucked up shoes and they’re like this is so ellie williams core.
⭐︎ she goes on like jimmy fallon or some late night show and they show a clip of her after getting her wisdom teeth removed (or some other procedure that makes you loopy)…
and she’s crying because she called you really pretty but she has a girlfriend and she feels so bad about it. but you’re behind the camera telling her you’re her wife. which makes her cry harder because you’re so so beautiful and perfect. and joel’s in the front seat, driving, and laughing his ass off.
⭐︎ you two get to go on snl together, you’re hosting and she’s the musical guest and you two fuck up every skit you’re in. like as soon as you make eye contact with her you’re bursting out laughing (how could you not when she’s dressed like an 80’s rockstar or a stereotypical nerd).

swipe right — k. bakugo x fem! reader

✮ a/n: i remember seeing a post on here a long time ago about a character making a fake tinder profile for their gf and realizing how many people want her. (if someone knows the OG post please lmk so i can link it!) so now i present to you: bakugo falling to his knees in the middle of your apartment bedroom for the exact same reason.
✮ content/warnings: dubcon, quirkless/college! au, jealousy, possessiveness, breeding, creampie, unprotected sex, cum eating, cunnilingus, overstimulation, praise, biting, bkg gets a little rough with you, and bkg's also a fucking simp but when do I ever write him as being otherwise??
✮ summary: your boyfriend decides to make a fake tinder profile for you just to see how many matches you get. he comes to a realization just how many other people want what’s already his.
✮ word count: 4.2k (i'm so sick)
Bakugo can remember how this all started. In very vivid detail, actually. He remembers because Kaminari had pissed him off so much to the extent that it took him a very substantial amount of effort to refrain from bashing his friend’s face in.
It all started during the last monthly hangout amongst Bakugo and his friends— one day out of the month designated to make sure that they all had time to catch up with one another despite their busy schedules.
Everything was normal, with all of them getting more than enough of their fill of food and alcohol while idly playing video games and talking about random topics to fill in the silence in Kaminari’s living room.
Perfectly normal, until Denki decided to open his stupid mouth, at least.
He goes off on a tangent about a trend he saw on social media where someone makes a fake Tinder profile for their partner to see how many matches they’d get. He proceeds to tell Bakugo that he should try doing it, for “funsies,”— to which Bakugo scoffs at.
“Aren’t you curious, Kacchan?” Kaminari smiles cheekily, wrapping an arm around his blond friend’s shoulders, seemingly oblivious to the fact that Bakugo’s becoming visibly more upset with every passing moment.
“Your girlfriend is really pretty,” Mina chimes in, sticking her tongue out when Katsuki whips his head to glare at her. “I’m still surprised she’s with a grump like you.”
Kaminari butts in, “I bet there’s a whole line of guys around the block just waiting for a chance to get with her. I mean, just look at her! Hell, I’d even let her peg m—”
For a moment, Bakugo swears he wants to bash Kaminari’s face into his flatscreen. And for a moment, he lets that impulsive thought win— getting up and grabbing two fistfuls of Denki’s shirt before promptly getting cut off by Kirishima.
“Alright alright,” Kirishima forcibly pries Bakugo off of the other blond, pushing him off to the side. “That’s enough, you two. Kaminari was just messing around. I’ll admit, it wasn’t a good joke, but no need to hurt the guy, okay Bakugo?”
Kirishima knows that Kaminari wasn’t being that serious, but Kirishima can also admit that what he had to say held some ounce of truth. And Kirishima knows Bakugo well enough to see how your boyfriend tends to be rather skittish and protective with matters concerning you— which is exactly why Eijiro had to stop him before it was too late. He really didn’t feel like preparing for Denki’s funeral or helping hide Katsuki escape from a homicide charge.
And that was that…up until a few minutes ago.
Katsuki’s tried to forget that conversation. But try as he might, his mind betrays him and can’t help but wander back to what Denki said that night.
He trusts you of course, and has complete faith in your relationship. However, he’s curious to a fault, just about perhaps too curious for his own good.
How badly could this end?
As it turns out, this whole scheme seems to be playing out very poorly.
Dozens of photos of you— screenshotted from your social media accounts— fill Katsuki’s screen. He had to choose photos you uploaded yourself, because most of his photos of you were either too…suggestive or too domestic (and he wants to be the only one to see you in those moments).
He swipes through “your” profile one last time before clicking “done” to officially put you on the market. And just like that, Bakugo’s met with the faces of men who are nowhere near your level. He goes through the batch of profiles, scrutinizing each one he comes across. He’s (un)surprisingly selective with the ones he chooses to swipe right on— making sure that they’re at least somewhat conventionally attractive. To his surprise (or dread, rather), his phone pings right away with a notification from someone who swiped back. Another ping. A message.
You free tonight?
Bakugo scoffs. He looks through the guy’s profile— a picture of him at a party with his arms around some girls, another with him doing a victory pose presumably after hiking, and one with him holding a fish. He feels his mouth curl in disgust, about to give into the urge to reply and give this guy a piece of his mind, before he realizes he’s pretending to be you. He takes a deep breath, closes out of the app, and puts down his phone.
He’s starting to regret this.
Bakugo’s phone has gone off 15 times in the last hour. Bakugo has also felt the need to strangle some stranger through the phone 15 times in the last hour. Your (read: his) profile has existed for less than 60 minutes, and you already have a whole address book of nobodies trying to link with you and get a quick fuck.
He feels the familiar beginnings of a headache creeping up the back of his skull. He thinks he might need a drink. Why did he decide to do this again?
In hindsight, he probably should have known this is exactly how it was going to go down.
What was that saying? Curiosity killed the cat?
Yeah.
He was never great at self-preservation in the first place. So this, the feeling of overwhelming jealousy, frustration, possessiveness brewing up a storm threatening to pour out of every single fiber of Bakugo’s being— was no surprise.
He watches as the numbers at the bottom of his screen increase steadily, before tapping on the star icon.
‘99+ likes!’ it reads. Over 99 people who saw your profile and thought you were beautiful. Bakugo pales, and he can feel the cold sweat building on the nape of his neck. He grips his phone, knuckles turning white. Is he shaking from anger or nervousness?
Anger because all these guys think they even have the slightest chance with someone as amazing as you. Nervousness because what if you decide that they do? You wouldn’t actually leave him for one of these guys, right? Right?
None of these men would walk through hell and back for you. They don’t know how you like your coffee, the details of your skin care routine, how you like to binge watch shows and talk Katsuki’s ear off about them (not that he ever minded, of course). They don’t know you, not like he does. Katsuki looks at you like you hung the moon. In fact, he’s pretty convinced that you did. Everything good in his life— the warmth, the color, the joy,— is encompassed by you. He’d be damned if he lets some greasy little nobody take that from him. Because the moment Bakugo fell in love with you, you became a part of him— inextricably and indefinitely. Loving you has become so intrinsic to him, that even the mere thought of another person loving you or looking at you the same way he does has him going insane. Not that anyone could love you like he did, though. That thought brings him some comfort, but not for long.
One last notification he sees sends him spiraling. Bakugo swears that he can see red. That’s when he deletes the app, and throws his poor phone in some random corner of the living room, which is markedly one of the smarter choices he’s made as of late. He marches to your bedroom with a fire burning in his chest.
He stops short of the door and finds you sitting at the edge of your shared bed, fresh out of the shower. You’re applying lotion, and he watches the cream absorb into your skin wordlessly, in awe at how overwhelmingly beautiful you manage to look in the most prosaic of tasks. For a second, he almost forgets the reason he was upset in the first place.
Your hair is still damp, water droplets accumulating at the tips, and Katsuki feels his mouth run dry the minute he watches a stray bead fall and make its way down your neck and stop perfectly in the dip of your collarbone. Your very existence is forever etched into his heart, every inch of you carved into his memory, but even still he can never get tired of looking at you. At every angle, in every lighting, he needs to see you in it. You could call him obsessed, but he’d simply laugh and agree, because what’s so wrong with that? Especially if it’s you.
You’re one to be studied— to be adored, Katsuki thinks, to the greatest capacity. It’s what you deserve. And what better person for that task to fall upon than him?
He finds himself naturally gravitating towards you, his finger tracing the same exact path the water had carved just moments before, wordlessly. You try to pay no mind, but it’s difficult as you realize just how close Bakugo was and how your towel barely manages to cover up your most intimate parts. One wrong move and you’d be exposed. With how things were playing out, and the predatory glint in the blond’s eyes, you don’t think your boyfriend would be too perturbed with your current predicament.
Katsuki presses a delicate kiss to your forehead before he crouches down. Suddenly, you’re at eye level with one another, his hot breath tickling your lips. You think for a moment he’s going to kiss you so you lean forward, lips waiting. But he merely grazes them before he sucks a deep bruise into the juncture of your neck, biting slightly.
You’re barely given any time to react before he’s grabbing the hand that’s securing your towel and ripping it away, the offending garment falling off your body. Your flesh prickles with goosebumps as its exposed to the sudden chill. It’s quickly replaced by the heat of Bakugo’s body as he pushes you lightly, your back hitting the mattress. He crawls on top of you, muscular thighs on either side of your hips, your head placed conveniently between his forearms. He’s trapped you, a nonverbal challenge for you to try and escape.
You’re a work of art, he thinks, but much more valuable than any pièce de résistance framed in any museum.
Beautiful, yes, but far too blank for his liking. He wants to ruin you, make you his own personal magnum opus. And so he does.
He presses a clothed knee against your bare cunt, pressing firmly. His lips continue their assault on your neck, leaving angry purpling bruises in their wake. Rough hands find your breast, and you moan in surprise when he gives both of them a harsh squeeze as he shoves his tongue into your mouth. Katsuki kisses you like a man dying of thirst, hungry for everything you can offer him and more. It’s all too much already, the way he’s kissing you has your mind reeling, and you have to turn your head away for a moment to catch your breath. Katsuki thinks it’s a moment too long without you, so he coaxes you into locking lips with him once more. A wave of mischievousness washes over you, prompting you to take your boyfriend’s lower lip in between your teeth, biting down lightly.
You feel his breath hitch, before he lets out a low groan as he grinds his clothed dick against your bare wetness. He returns the favor, sucking on your bottom lip before letting it go with a wet pop. He pulls back with a lazy smirk, his lips pursing together to scatter messy kisses down the base of your throat and down your chest, alternating between sucking and biting at the flesh.
He gives you a good once-over, scanning every surface, committing them to memory. You feel the need to curl into yourself with how intensely those vermillion eyes are piercing into you, memorizing every single curve, scar, freckle like he’s done time and time again.
He drops down to his knees, broad shoulders bullying their way in between your legs, forcibly prying them open. He grips your hips, fingertips digging into the soft flesh, and drags you down the mattress until your legs are dangling off the bed.
“Jesus, Kats, be more gentle.”
“Shhh. I know you like it when I’m not gentle,” he chuckles. As if to prove a point, he pulls you down even further, giving a harsh bite to your inner thigh. He smiles deviously when you yelp. You try to pull at his hair but his reflexes are too quick, pinning both of your wrists down on either side of you easily. “Besides, this is the perfect height for me to eat you out, dontcha think baby?”
You want to chastise him for being so crass, so Katsuki, but the words die on the tip of your tongue the minute he gives a sweet, loving kiss to your clit, sucking lightly.
“You’re mine. I don’t want anyone else seeing you like this except for me.”
You’re not entirely sure what brought this on, but you find it hard to complain when Bakugo drags his tongue from your throbbing clit to inside your pussy, drinking everything you have to offer.
Your hands automatically try to find purchase in his blond locks, struggling against the vice grip Katsuki has on your wrists. He decides to take pity on you, loosening his hold so you can slip your hands into his hair, moaning appreciatively when he feels you tug. He rewards you by flicking his tongue on your clit over and over again, just the way you like it. He does it until your moans begin to pitch higher and higher, the same way that they do when you’re close. He doesn’t stop his ministrations even after you cum, riding out your orgasm until your thighs are shaking from overstimulation. He pulls away from you with a loud pop, taking in the sight before him.
He runs a hand up and down your thigh soothingly. “So fucked out already and we’re barely getting started, baby.”
Your mind is barely processing his words before you feel Katsuki’s erection brush against your stomach, his clothing haphazardly discarded on the floor. He taps the head of his dick against your clit to tease you, a feeling of satisfaction swelling when you cry out from under him.
He watches in fascination as strings of your arousal cling to him. He positions his length at your entrance, locking eyes with you as you hold your breath in anticipation. Katsuki likes you like this. Needy for him.
“You’re the most beautiful girl in the world, you know that?” He slips into you with a stuttered groan.
Katsuki’s always been big. You never get used to the initial stretch, no matter how many times you two fuck. Still, that doesn’t stop him from sliding in with ease from the slick of your last orgasm. It easily coats his cock as he gives a few experimental thrusts. He groans in rapture. How do you manage to feel so good every time? It’s enough to drive him insane. Perhaps he already is.
“So fucking perfect, no wonder why all those losers want you.” He mutters out the last part, and you’re not sure if you caught that right.
“What?” He chooses not to respond, and you aren’t given the opportunity to think any further before your legs are thrown over his shoulders, Katsuki’s weight effectively pinning you in place. The stretch knocks all the wind out of your lungs, and all you can do is cling to Katsuki, nails leaving red, angry lines on his well-defined back.
He wastes no time before he starts drilling into you, hips slotting in between your legs perfectly. The position has him pressed against your clit, and your entire body feels like it’s been set ablaze, with Katsuki holding both the power to have it burn even brighter and the ability to extinguish it. And you’re almost there, you can feel your soul slowly ascending, your room filled with hymns of pleasure, the coil in your stomach winding tighter and tighter, threatening to unravel along with your sanity. Katsuki can feel it too— the way you’re squeezing him tighter, how your gasps and moans have climbed just a note higher, how absolutely ruined you look, how he’s responsible for your current state. Which is exactly why he wants to push it even further, he wants to see how much you’ll break for him— and only him.
Katsuki cuts you off right before you can reach your peak, pulling out but making sure just his tip is inserted. You come to and take a look at your lover and marvel at the sight. He has a crazed look in his eyes. The way he smirks is absolutely wicked.
You feel distraught— having been so close but having it ripped away from you. You give your boyfriend a petulant pout.
“Katsuki,” you whine, slapping a hand against his sweaty chest, “Why’d you stop? I was so close!”
“Because I didn’t want you to cum yet,” he says simply. “You’ll be good for me, yeah? I’ll give my baby what she deserves, as long as she’s good.”
You roll your eyes, huffing. That won’t do for him.
As much as he loves seeing you indulge, he feels a need to punish you— at least a little bit to even begin to atone for being the wicked temptress you are.
“Don’t be a fuckin’ brat,” Bakugo growls, gripping your face with one hand, squishing your cheeks, causing your lips to purse slightly. “I said be good, okay? Wanna take my time with you.”
There’s a moment of respite, until you sigh in defeat, knowing better than to argue with him lest you wanted to dig your own grave. “‘Kay, ‘ki.”
He flashes you a smile. Obedient, just how he likes you. “Good girl.”
Katsuki draws his hips back, thrusting just enough to fuck his tip into you. He’s teasing. The amount of willpower on his end it takes not to cum is nauseating.
“You’re so pretty, aren’t you?” he rasps, one hand finding their way around your neck, squeezing just enough to make your head spin. Your hands reflexively grab his wrist.
All you can manage is a fucked out moan. Katsuki has to resist the urge to coo, about how he’s managed to turn you into a cockdrunk mess in such a short matter of time. The wave of possessiveness that’s been gnawing at the depths of his soul begins to seep out, and he’s reminded of the reason why the two of you are in this position in the first place.
He gives your throat another squeeze and a rough slap to your clit. “C’mon princess, answer me. Say it.” He slowly adds more and more pressure until your ears grow hot and air feels like a precious commodity.
“I-i’m pretty,” you manage to gasp out, tears spilling from your lash line as you begin to lose yourself between the space of pleasure and pain.
Good. Always so pliant for him.
“That’s right, baby,” he concedes. “So fuckin’ beautiful.” He punctuates the last word with a deep thrust, right against that spongy spot that feels so good. You’re so sensitive that it’s enough to send you spiraling into your second orgasm, walls spasming around him uncontrollably.
Katsuki stills, staving off his own release with all the restraint he can summon. He silently thanks whatever divine forces are out there that he didn’t cum the minute he felt the first clench of your orgasm.
He grits his teeth as he wills himself to move, trying not to get lost in the wetness that envelops him. You’re babbling now, senseless moans filling Katsuki’s ears like a sweet melody.
“Kats, please, I’m too sensitive—” You’re shaking now, muscles trembling with every thrust.
“But I’m not done with you yet,” he says simply, drawing his hips back with a particularly rough thrust. You choke back whatever you were going to say with a loud cry. “What’s your color, baby?”
You take a moment to answer, brain trying to comprehend the words just uttered to you. You look at Katsuki firmly, “Green.”
“Atta girl,” he praises, the drive of his hips beginning to shallow. He’s close, and he doesn’t know how much longer he can hold out. But for you, he tries. “You’re mine, right?”
“Yes,” you breathe out, shivering as goosebumps dance across your skin.
“Say it,” Katsuki pleads, thrusts growing sloppy by the second. “Say you’re mine.”
“I’m all yours, ‘ki.”
With that, Katsuki’s fate is sealed. He’s left groaning as a flash of pleasure shakes his very soul, filling you up with so much cum that it dribbles onto the mattress even while he’s still inside you. You follow suit, an embarrassingly obscene rhythm of squelching noises fill the silence as you spasm around his dick. He collapses on top of you, but he’s still coherent enough to not dump all his weight on you.
Your labored breaths fill the room as the two of you come to. Katsuki pulls out of you with a wince, still a bit sensitive. He gives you a peck on the lips before he drags himself down, settling in between your legs much like he was earlier.
You tense up, “Kats, wait—”
Any and all protests cease the moment Bakugo works his tongue inside of you, slurping lewdly as he drags out the mixture of your cum and his, swallowing. He tries not to stimulate your puffy clit in an attempt to be merciful, but you still feel yourself steadily climbing to what would be your fourth orgasm this session. While the past three have been intense and drowning, this one comes to you in waves, dull pleasure invading your senses as Katsuki continues to eat you out to clean you up.
He pulls away when you finish, your slick and his saliva coating his chin before he wipes it off on the back of his hand. You stare at his half-hard erection with a half concerned, half quizzical look. “Do you…” you lick your lips, “need help with that? I’m a little sensitive down there but I could use my mout—”
“Nah, I’m good babe,” he says earnestly, flashing you a smile that he only ever shows around you. “I’ll be back.” With that, your boyfriend leaves the room only to come back with a bottle of water.
“Drink.” You comply, finishing half the bottle graciously before handing it to him. He downs the rest before he settles next to you on the bed, laying on his side. You mirror him, shifting your body so that you’re both facing each other.
Katsuki reaches out, finger idly tracing random shapes and lines onto the bare skin on your hip. He has a pensive look on his face, one that he usually doesn’t hold after stolen moments like this; it’s an expression he wears when he’s in deep thought.
“Baby,” you call out. His eyes snap to yours, eyebrows raised.
“Yeah?”
“Whatcha thinking about?” You watch as a hesitant look flashes across your boyfriend’s face before he shakes his head.
“S’nothin’. Just thinkin’ about us two.” He speaks lightly. It’s always been difficult for him to voice his inner thoughts and feelings, so he tends to beat around the bush. You’ve learned that if you ever want something out of him, you’d have to pry a little. Katsuki always indulges you though.
“What about us?”
“Do you- do you think you’ll ever get tired of this?” He repeats himself, clearing his throat. The question is followed by a weaker, “...of me?”
You think it’s the most ridiculous question he’s ever asked, because the answer should be obvious. “I’d never get tired of you, Katsuki. I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” he replies automatically, “but if I ever do anything that upsets you, or if I get too much for you, or if I—” he’s rambling now. Yes, it’s difficult for Katsuki to talk about his feelings, but once you manage to get him to open up, all the walls of his self-made fortress come crashing down and it’s up to you to pick up the pieces.
“Baby,” you giggle, pressing a kiss to his lips, cupping his sharp jaw with one hand. “Look at me.” And he does— ruby eyes meeting yours. “I love you because you’re you. And I choose to be with you everyday. It’s not always gonna be perfect, no relationship is. But I know that I will always wake up and choose you.”
You can see the anxiety melt away from Katsuki’s body, shoulders slumping as he lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
“Love you too, sap,” is all he says before he’s pulling you against his chest, squeezing you into a bearhug. You two stay that way until both of you are lulled to sleep.
You’re laying in bed with Katsuki, both of you dozing off when you hear a slight buzz from your phone on the nightstand. You squint as you try to read the notification, and make out that it’s from your friend.
Denki Kaminari: So did it work?
You bite the inside of your cheek to stop yourself from laughing, giving a quick glance over your shoulder to check on your boyfriend— fast asleep. You turn back to your phone, your thumbs making quick work at your keyboard.
You: Just like I said it would. Thanks Denki :)

heartbreak feels so good (part 1)
Pairing: Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw x Reader Word count: 8081 CW: Shitty boyfriends, angst, fluff, slow burn.
Your boyfriend's callsign is Viper, which is fitting. Bradley doesn't know how much longer he can watch this man destroy you, but luckily for him, he doesn't have to wait too long.
Use of Y/N, but no description of reader. THIS IS A MULTI-PART FIC.
Part Two Part Three
After another day of having your feelings totally ignored by your boyfriend, you were looking forward to some alone time. Elijah was so hot and cold that you felt as though you were in a constant state of fight or flight, just waiting for him to either make your day or ruin it completely. Most of the time, it was the latter, and although good days with him were few and far between, they were enough to make you stay. See, you didn’t half-ass anything—least of all relationships—so when you were in something, you were in it. You told Elijah that much after your first date. You’d been sitting in the front of his beemer eating ice cream, having the first of many deep talks. Between sweet, sticky kisses, you’d told him that you were dating to marry. He told you he was, too.
He said, ‘I’m yours if you’ll have me, Y/N.’ And that was that.
And it was almost a year ago. You’d survived a somewhat tumultuous winter with him, desperately trying to cling on to the version of him he’d been during the summer. As time went on, he stopped putting his mask on, secure enough in your relationship that he no longer felt the need to pretend to be caring and considerate. The days were starting to get longer, and the weather was warming up again, but Elijah was so far from the man he was at the start that you might as well have been in a relationship with a different person. Every morning, you woke up with no idea what personality to expect that day, whether or not he was going to take all his personal drama out on you, even though you only ever loved and supported him.
Today had been one of those days, and as you finished up with the F-18 engine currently in pieces in front of you, you silently prayed that he wouldn’t text you asking to come over. He was also a naval aviator, but you were working on different parts of the base today. Thank God. Elijah’s callsign was Viper, fitting since vipers prey on small animals by envenomating them and watching them die slowly.
Coyote appeared behind you, helmet tucked underneath his arm.
‘Hey, we’re all heading to The Hard Deck for beers,’ he told you. ‘You comin’?’ You grabbed a rag and made an attempt to wipe some of the oil off. ‘I don’t know,’ you sighed. ‘I want to, but then I’ll have to bring Elijah, and I don’t really wanna see him tonight.’ ‘Why do you have to bring him?’ Coyote frowned. ‘He’s a lousy drunk and never lets you have any fun.’ ‘If he finds out I went out with all you guys, he’ll think I’m up to something.’ ‘Like gettin’ with me?’ He joked, wiggling his eyebrows. ‘Probably,’ you laughed. ‘You or one of the others. Or maybe he’ll accuse me of getting with all of you if he’s in a particularly bad mood.’ ‘Listen, if you wanna come, you’re welcome. We’ll just make sure nobody posts about it, and we’ll get you a fake moustache or somethin’.’
It broke your heart to think about all your closest friends having a fun night without you. Over the past year, you’d lost count of the amount of experiences you’d missed out on because you didn’t want to make Elijah upset or angry with you. The worst part was it was a double standard. He went out without you all the time, didn’t tell you where he’d gone or who he was with, and expected you to be okay with it. If you weren’t, you could kiss your peace goodbye; he’d spend the next week making your life a living hell, ignoring you entirely until you apologised to him for being hurt by his actions.
‘You know what Javy? Count me in.’ He grinned. ‘Thatta girl.’
It was hard to regret coming out when you felt this good. It had been months since you’d gone on a night out without Elijah, which was to say it had been months since you last enjoyed yourself. As you sipped your second sex on the beach, you mused that some kind of higher power must have been looking out for you because you’d yet to receive a single text from your boyfriend. Most of the time, when you spent the night apart, he’d call you incessantly. It was annoying, sometimes bordering on obsessive, and you didn’t need him to tell you he was checking on you, or rather, checking that you were alone in your apartment. That much was obvious.
Dating an insecure man was not for the weak.
You were sat at one of the high tables next to the window watching Jake, Mickey, Javy, and Reuben play pool. Nat was opposite nursing a beer, glowing in the golden light of the evening. Her phone buzzed, and she picked it up, smiling at the notification.
‘Rooster’s on his way,’ she told you. ‘He wasn’t gonna come out tonight, but I told him he didn’t have a choice. It’s not every day Y/N Y/L/N leaves the comfort of her apartment.’ You scoffed. ‘That’s not exactly how I’d put it.’ ‘No?’ Nat raised a brow.
You hadn’t drunk in months, and despite only being on your second drink, the booze had loosened your lips significantly.
‘No. It’s not that I’d rather stay home, it’s that staying home makes my life easier because then I don’t have Elijah breathing down my fucking neck.’
Little did you know, Javy had told everyone about your conversation earlier. Not because he was a gossip but because he was worried about you. It was rare for you to open up to the squad about your relationship, but it wasn’t hard to guess what happened behind closed doors. They all worked with Viper, for one, and they were familiar with his temperament. Not only that, but you dropped off the face of the Earth a few months after you started dating him, and it didn’t take a genius to put two and two together.
‘I don’t know why you’re still with him, Y/N. He’s an ass.’ ‘I know,’ you sighed, frowning into your drink. ‘It’s just not as straightforward as just leaving. I still love him. If I can make this work, I don’t have to start all over again with someone else.’ Nat nodded in understanding. ‘I get wanting to make it work, but at what cost? You don’t see your friends, and he uses you as an emotional punching bag. You can’t even come to the beach with us without him checking on you every five minutes,’ she reached over the table and took your hand. ‘He’s killing you.’
This was the first time someone had spoken their mind to you about the situation. While you already knew all of it, hearing it from one of your best friends hit home. Vodka made you emotional, and if not for Bradley, you would have broken down there and then.
He walked up to the table and engulfed you in a hug, practically pulling you off your stool. You pressed your face into his shirt, inhaling the scent of clean cotton and sandalwood. Half expecting Elijah to spring out and catch you in the act, you reluctantly pulled away.
‘Hey, Bradley.’ ‘Hey yourself, stranger. Can’t believe you’re gracing us with your presence.’ ‘I know, it’s been a while.’ ‘A while? Try six months,’ he glanced at your almost empty glass and Nat’s empty bottle of Heineken. ‘Can I buy you lovely ladies a drink?’ ‘Do you even have to ask?’ Nat retorted. ‘What’re you drinking, darlin’?’ He asked you. You smiled sheepishly. ‘Sex on the beach.’ ‘I can make that happen.’ He smirked.
Luckily, you didn’t have to come up with a response to that remark because he turned around and headed to the bar. You locked eyes with Nat, and both of you burst out laughing.
Just like that, all the negativity you’d been feeling dissipated like rain against hot tarmac.
Bradley came back with the drinks, and the three of you took the opportunity to catch up while the others finished their pool game. You shouldn’t have been as surprised as you were to find out that you’d missed a lot. Bradley had started dating one of the medics, but the relationship had crashed and burned almost immediately. He hadn’t bothered trying to meet anyone else since. Nat, after watching all her friends have such bad experiences in the dating world, had decided she was better off alone.
‘Honestly, I don’t blame you.’ You told her. ‘You should dump Viper,’ she said with a devilish grin. ‘And we can have a hot girl summer.’ Bradley laughed. ‘Can’t say I ever imagined you saying that, Nix.’ ‘Isn’t that what it’s called now? We can’t be that out of touch, surely.’ ‘I don’t wanna think about how old I am.’ You said, picking up your phone to see if you’d missed any texts from Elijah. You hated to think what kind of argument missing one of his calls would start. Nat and Rooster shared a knowing look. ‘It rings, you know? Out loud.’
Being this transparent was embarrassing.
‘I think I’m going to confiscate this for now.’ Ignoring your protests, Bradley swiped your phone and tucked it into his pocket. ‘If he calls or texts, I’ll let you know.’
You were tipsy enough not to try and take your phone back but not tipsy enough to be unbothered by the idea of Elijah calling and you not picking up.
‘If he calls, I need it back straight away,’ you told him sternly. ‘If I don’t pick up, I’ll never hear the end of it.’
Bradley rolled his eyes, but you knew it wasn’t aimed at you. He hated Elijah the most of all your friends. Perhaps sensing some tension, Nat slid off her stool and grabbed your arm, practically yanking you off yours.
‘Let’s go pick a song,’ she suggested. ‘We can get more drinks on the way back.’
Since it had been so long since you last visited The Hard Deck, she let you choose. You picked Rebel Yell by Billy Idol, your mum’s favourite. Admittedly, you’d been missing your home town a lot more than usual lately, perhaps because you were in such a weird place mentally. Things must be worse than you thought if you were considering running home with your tail between your legs.
As the night went on, you got drunker and drunker. Bradley watched with a bemused grin as you dragged Bob off to the jukebox again, since he was the easiest person to coerce into doing things. How Bradley wished it was him you were clinging to. Not that he was jealous of Bob—because that would be like being jealous of a puppy—he just desperately wanted to be the object of your affection.
While you and Bob went to change the music, Bradley struck up a conversation with Natasha and Reuben, who erupted into laughter when you pulled Bob’s arm so hard he almost toppled over.
‘It’s nice to have Y/N out, huh?’ He observed. Nat looked at him like he was the biggest dickhead in the world. ‘Come on, Bradshaw. He might be an ass, but she’s got a boyfriend.’
Bradley sipped his beer, desperately trying to come up with a believable response. Reuben smirked knowingly, which only made Bradley more annoyed.
‘I don’t have a thing for Y/N.’ ‘Whatever helps you sleep at night, man.’ ‘Come on, Payback. You too?’ Reuben shrugged. ‘Doesn’t take a genius to work it out. You look at her like she’s God’s gift.’
The reason Bradley looked at you like you were God’s gift is because you were, but nobody was supposed to know that.
‘Why do women stay with guys that treat them like shit?’ Bradley asked. ‘Depends on the woman,’ Natasha started. ‘But if you mean Y/N, it’s because she can’t do anything halfway. She told me earlier that it’s because she doesn’t want to start over with someone new, but I don’t think that’s it. She just loves so hard, and it takes a lot out of her. Why would she wanna start the process all over again if she already has someone?’ Bradley was incredulous. ‘Erm, I don’t know, maybe because he’s emotionally abusing her.’
You and Nat were close. In a way, she knew you better than you knew yourself, so she was the best person for Bradley to ask about things. Now, however, he was kind of regretting opening his mouth. Knowing why you were staying with a guy who treated you so badly didn’t make it easier to accept like Bradley thought it would; it only filled him with white-hot rage.
‘It’s not as easy as just leaving. She has to come to it on her own.’ ‘Yeah,’ Reuben chimed in. ‘You can’t convince Y/N of shit.’ Natasha scoffed. ‘Yup, and believe me, I’ve tried.’ ‘So what, we just sit around and watch him ruin her?’ ‘Y/N’s a smart cookie and one of the strongest people I know. She’ll come to her senses, and when she does, we’ll be here.’ ‘You know, I read somewhere once that you can’t save anyone. You can only hold their hand while they save themselves.’ Nat raised a brow. ‘Damn, Payback. That might be the wisest thing you’ve ever said.’ ‘Hey, why do you sound so surprised?’ ‘You really want me to answer that?’
Bradley had a lot to think about. Realistically, he knew there was nothing he could do. His only option was to let things unfold naturally and have faith that things would work out exactly the way they were supposed to. The only problem was, that sounded too much like ‘sit back and do nothing,’ which didn’t feel right either.
Bradley needed another drink.
In fact, he was just about to head to the bar when you came bounding over, dragging poor Bob behind you.
‘Roooooooooster.’ You cooed.
His heart just about melted when you started batting your eyelashes at him.
‘What’s up, Y/CS?’
Everyone else was watching the interaction expectantly, waiting to hear what you were going to say next.
‘You’re really pretty.’ Bradley laughed, hoping you were too drunk to notice the blush he could feel creeping across his cheeks. ‘Thank you. You’re really pretty, too.’ Nat, sensing the need to intervene, came around and gently grabbed your arm. ‘Hey, let’s get you a glass of water, huh?’ ‘But I need to tell Roo how pretty he looks.’
Bradley’s heart fluttered at your use of the pet name. He really didn’t want you to leave, but Nat was right. You needed some water and probably your bed.
‘You told him already, Y/N. And when you get back, you can tell him again.’
She started leading you away, and Bradley immediately missed your presence.
A very flushed-looking Bob took Nat’s empty stool. ‘That girl is somethin’ else.’ He murmured, pushing his glasses back up his nose. ‘I don’t think you should let her drink anymore.’ ‘I’m not her keeper,’ Bradley responded. ‘Can’t stop her from doing anything.’ Bob shrugged. ‘Maybe so, but you’re all she talked about. You and the fact that there’s no Fall Out Boy in the jukebox. Pretty sure she called it a ‘fucking tragedy.’’ Bradley leaned forward. ‘What did she say about me?’ ‘You know,’ Bob waved a hand dismissively. ‘You’re pretty. Her boyfriend is gonna kill her if he finds out she’s here with you because he thinks you have a thing for her.’ Bradley was at a loss for words. Reuben, however, was grinning like a fool. ‘What was that about not having a thing for her? Even her boyfriend’s caught on, man.’ ‘How many times do I have to say I do not have a thing for-’
An annoyingly loud ringing sound interrupted Bradley’s sentence. It didn’t sound like his ringtone, but the noise was coming from his pocket. It took him too long to remember that he had your phone in his pocket, and that it was probably Viper calling. Sure enough, when he took out your phone, he was greeted by a sickeningly sweet photo of you and your boyfriend on the beach. You and Nat were still at the bar, and he knew he should just let it ring so you could call him back later.
But something had a hold of Bradley, and he answered the call and pressed the phone to his ear before he could really process what he was doing.
‘Y/N’s phone.’
A beat of silence, then some of the most colourful language Bradley had ever heard in his life.
‘Who the fuck is this, and why the fuck have you got my girlfriend’s phone?’ ‘Y/N can’t come to the phone right now. She’s at the bar with her friend, gettin’ another round of drinks, and I just know hearing your voice would ruin her night. It’s ruined mine, that’s for sure. If you want, I can take a message, and she’ll get back to you in the morning.’
Reuben was nearly on the floor, trying desperately not to laugh in case Viper heard him. Bob had paled significantly, like he’d seen a ghost—or worse.
‘That you, Bradshaw? I just knew something was going on-’
Bradley hung up. The severity of the situation was beginning to hit, and despite the sick satisfaction he’d felt when he picked up the phone, he was regretting his decision already.
‘Y/N is gonna kill you, Rooster.’ Bob told him.
Nat made the sensible decision to cut you off, but she said you could stay out with them until closing if you promised to keep drinking water and stop fucking around with the jukebox. That was how you ended up in the corner of a booth with Bradley next to you to stop you from escaping.
Not that you’d want to escape.
Mickey had joined, and the guys were playing cards while you and Nat talked. She was catching you up on her life, and it made a change to think about someone other than Elijah for once.
That’s when it hit you.
You hadn’t checked your phone in hours, and you dreaded to think how many texts and calls you’d missed.
‘Bradley, can I have my phone?’
He set his hand of cards down on the table and reached into his pocket. When you reached out to take it, he pulled away.
‘Before I give this to you, I need to tell you something.’
A wave of nausea hit you.
‘What? What’s going on?’ ‘Viper called about an hour ago. You were at the bar, and I didn’t know what to do, so I answered it.’ Reuben leaned forward in his seat. ‘Oh, this is about to be good.’
You thought you knew what panic felt like, but up until this very moment, you had no idea. Bradley was lucky you didn’t throw up in his lap from the nerves.
‘What?’ ‘I’m sorry, Y/N. I wasn’t thinking-’
You snatched your phone from him, ignoring the kicked-puppy expression he was sporting. A slew of angry text messages that were borderline abusive greeted you. You skimmed them quickly, not wanting to read too many in case you started crying in front of the entire squad.
What started out as the best night you’d had in a while quickly turned into the worst. Your boyfriend's hateful messages reminded you why you never went out and why this was the biggest mistake you could have made.
The worst part was you saw it coming.
‘Move,’ you said, grabbing your bag. ‘Bradley, let me out now.’ ‘You can’t drive like this, Y/N. Let one of us take you home.’
Bradley sounded destroyed. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at him.
‘Move.’
He nudged Bob, who stood up so Bradley could climb out of the booth. You were close behind him, and when your feet touched the floor, you nearly keeled over. Bradley reached out to steady you, but you shook him off.
‘Y/N. You can’t leave like this. How are you gonna get home?’
Ignoring his pleas, you made a beeline for the exit. Nat shoved Reuben into Mickey, trying to hurry them out of the booth so she could follow you, but you were surprisingly fast for a drunk person. Bradley was right about one thing: there was no way you could drive in this state. You ducked around the corner so Nat couldn’t see you and sank to the floor. Hot tears prickled behind your eyes as you did the one thing you didn’t want to do, but the only thing you could do.
You called Elijah.
He didn’t answer the first, second, third, or fourth time.
Half an hour passed, and you didn’t move. At one point, you heard Bradley, Nat, and Reuben talking around the corner, coming up with a plan for where to look for you. They knew you were on foot because your car was still in the lot, and since you’d disappeared so quickly, you couldn’t have gotten far. If the situation weren’t so tragic, it would’ve been funny that you were hiding ten paces away, and none of them could find you.
It was getting very late. People were getting in their cars and leaving or jumping into Ubers. Soon, your Jeep would be the only car left. You couldn’t face the daggers, and you couldn’t drive home, so you picked yourself up and took a slow walk down the beach to where the water met the sand.
What a beautiful night to have your heart broken.
There was no way Elijah would ever forgive you for this, no way you’d ever be able to convince him that nothing had happened between you and Bradley. The sane part of you knew that it was crazy to feel guilty for simply enjoying a night out with your friends, but the sane part of you rarely won these days. The part of you that loved Elijah was always loudest and knew this could never have gone any other way.
You were just about to resign yourself to calling a cab when you heard someone yelling your name from the top of the beach.
You either had the best or worst luck in the world because it was Bradley.
He made short work of the distance, giving you no time to come up with something to say. He looked otherworldly in the pale moonlight. His hair was slightly mused, and the same insane part of you that loved what it loved was whispering at you to run your fingers through it.
‘We’ve been looking all over for you, Y/N.’ He sounded very concerned as he pulled out his phone and texted the others to let them know you were safe. ‘I’m sorry, I just needed to be alone.’
You hadn’t even realised you were shivering until Bradley draped his Levi jacket over your shoulders.
‘You needed to be alone, or you needed to call Viper back?’ The tears threatened to make another appearance. ‘It’s none of your business.’ ‘What makes you think it’s not my business? I care about you and don’t want to keep watching you get hurt.’ ‘Then stop watching!’
Bradley recoiled, and you immediately felt awful. How Elijah spoke to you like that day in and day out without feeling guilty was a mystery to you.
‘I’m sorry, Bradley,’ you sighed, pulling his jacket tighter around you. ‘I didn’t mean to snap. I’m just very drunk and very emotional right now.’
He softened immediately and seemed torn about whether he should let you stand there freezing or pull you close. You hoped he wouldn’t try to pull you close because you didn’t think you’d have the guts to tell him no. Good feelings had been so incredibly hard to come by as of late.
‘Why are you still with him, Y/N?’ Bradley asked almost pleadingly.
Wow. He didn’t waste any time getting right to the point.
‘That’s a loaded question.’ ‘I need you to explain it to me because it’s killing me.’
You thought about it for a moment, and Bradley waited with bated breath to hear what you had to say.
In the end, it was this: ‘I guess we accept the love we think we deserve.’
Until you said it out loud, this phrase held little meaning to you. Now that it was out in the open, it was very heavy. In the last few months you’d tried coming up with a decent explanation as to why you were staying with Elijah, and you fell short every time. Turns out all you needed to do was get drunk and have an honest conversation to figure it out.
Coming to the realisation that what you’d just said was true felt like being in freefall. Everything in your life was changing shape to fit around this ugly truth. The good things in your heart shied away in the face of this monstrous fact.
You didn’t think you deserved a healthy love.
Somehow, Bradley was more hurt by this than when you’d snapped at him earlier. He was staring at the ground, unable to meet your eye like you’d just told him he wasn’t worthy of love.
‘You don’t think you deserve to be happy?’
Hearing him say it was somehow even worse.
‘Apparently not.’
You were both quiet for a moment, and then, for whatever reason, you laughed.
‘This is news to me too.’
The waves crashed loudly, water lapping at your feet as the tide came in. You couldn’t stand out here having epiphanies all night.
‘Listen, Rooster, I need to go home. I’m sorry for snapping.’ ‘I’ll take you home,’ he said quietly. ‘But we should talk tomorrow when you’re sober. Maybe we could get coffee.’ You shook your head. ‘After tonight, I don’t think that’s a smart idea. I’ll probably be spending tomorrow trying to salvage what’s left of my relationship.’ ‘You’re not serious.’ ‘I am.’
He opened his mouth to protest but then appeared to change his mind. You watched as all the fight he had left in him dissolved. There was nothing left for him to say, and he knew it.
The irritating birds that constantly chirped right outside your bedroom window woke you up. It was too damn early, and your head felt as though it was splitting open. When you sat up, you were hit by a wave of nausea so strong that you had no other choice but to sprint to the bathroom, smashing into the corner of your chest of drawers on the way.
Which was to say, it was a bad morning.
After you had puked up the entire contents of your stomach, you jumped straight in the shower, brushed your teeth, and did your skincare. At least if Elijah showed up at your front door, you wouldn’t look like you got super drunk last night, even though he’d probably already guessed.
When you checked your phone, there were still no notifications from him, and when you called, there was no answer. This wasn’t unlike him, but it had been almost twelve hours since Bradley picked up your phone, and you would have thought he’d have something to say by now.
To distract yourself from your impending doom, you threw open all the windows in your apartment, made your bed, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher—all the usual morning tasks. It seemed a shame to waste such a beautiful Saturday, but you doubted you’d enjoy any of your hobbies when you were this anxious and hungover.
With nothing else left to do, you set about making some breakfast.
Just as you put your bagel in the toaster, somebody knocked on the door.
Your stomach twisted itself into an impossibly tight knot. You were rooted to the spot, unable to move until whoever it was knocked a second time.
You looked through the peephole, expecting to see Elijah standing there with his dark eyebrows knitted together in frustration. It was the only scenario that had crossed your mind, so when you saw Bradley standing there, you were very surprised.
You took a deep breath and opened the door, greeted by the warm scent of sandalwood once again.
‘Bradley?’
He was holding two iced lattes, which you were betting were vanilla—your favourite. Elijah hadn’t done that for you since the first week of your relationship.
‘Hey, Y/N. Thought you could use this.’
He wasn’t wrong. You ushered him inside, and he headed to the kitchen, where he
perched himself on one of the stools at your kitchen island. This morning, he was sporting one of his more toned-down Hawaiian shirts and dark jeans. His eyelids drooped, and you wondered if he’d slept at all.
‘I was just about to make bagels. Want one?’ ‘Sure, thank you.’
You busied yourself, putting bacon and eggs into a pan while he sipped his coffee. He eyed you with the curiosity of someone who had come over to check that you were all in one piece. Once he was satisfied that you were, he relaxed slightly.
‘Thank you for bringing me home last night. I really appreciate it.’ You told him earnestly. ‘You don’t need to thank me. You’d have done the same thing.’ ‘True, but still. And I’m sorry for snapping at you.’
Last night was gradually coming back to you in flashes, like a supercut. Each time you remembered a new detail, you cringed internally.
‘You also don’t need to apologise. Has he called you?’
While the eggs and bacon were cooking, you toasted another bagel for Bradley and buttered yours. Even though you’d known him for years and been quite close until you got into a relationship, you were struggling to admit that you were pretty much being ghosted. It was already hard to walk around on base knowing that everybody was aware of how Elijah treated you. When you didn’t respond, Bradley took that as a no.
‘Well, that’s his problem,’ he spat. ‘You did absolutely nothing wrong. Maybe if he were less of a control freak, you would have felt like you could tell him you were out with us rather than hiding it, and then he wouldn’t have found out the way he did.’
The toaster popped, and you jumped. It felt like somebody had run a cheese grater over your nerves. Bradley ran his fingers through his hair and took a deep breath, clearly trying to reign in his anger.
‘I should apologise too,’ he continued. ‘I shouldn’t have answered your phone. It was a dick move, and I regretted it the instant I did it.’
You buttered the second bagel, put one egg on each of the bottom halves, and stacked two pieces of bacon on top before adding the top part. You didn’t say a word the entire time, and Bradley was starting to get antsy.
‘Y/N. Please talk to me.’ ‘I don’t know what to say, Roo. I’m struggling even to think straight right now. He knows it drives me fucking crazy when he’s having a go at me and doesn’t respond. I don’t understand why he does it, knowing how it makes me feel.’ Bradley sighed. ‘Because he doesn’t give a shit how you feel. He doesn’t give a shit about anything other than himself and how he feels.’
This wasn’t news to you, but again, it was more impactful to hear someone else say it out loud. Really, how long could you keep this up? Whether you thought you deserved it or not, you were starting to wonder if you might be better off alone than with someone who made living feel like walking next to a cliff with your eyes closed.
You pushed Bradley’s plate across the counter and picked up your bagel. Eating felt impossible, but getting through the day with this headache would be excruciating if you didn’t at least try.
‘Come and sit down,’ Bradley said. ‘It’s not good to eat standing up.’ Despite everything, you managed to laugh. And this time, it was a real laugh. ‘Why?’ A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. ‘I don’t know. My mum used to say it all the time.’
You did as you were told, and you walked around the island, taking the seat next to him. The two of you ate in companionable silence, periodically taking sips of your coffees. This was how easy it should have been with Elijah.
When you were both finished, Bradley put your plates, pan, and utensils into the dishwasher. You were too tired to tell him to stop.
‘Thanks for breakfast.’ You smiled. ‘Thanks for being you.’
Bradley’s smile mirrored your own. Unsaid words hung in the air, but you didn’t know what to say. His leaving didn’t feel right, but if he stayed and Elijah made an appearance, he’d most definitely break up with you.
But wasn’t this radio silence all the confirmation you needed that things were pretty much over, anyway? You were starting to wonder if this weekend had all happened exactly the way it was supposed to. Your eyes were indeed open, that was for sure. Of course, you’d known that the relationship wasn’t healthy, but this weekend had really driven the point home.
‘Do you wanna go for a walk along the beach?’ You asked, hopefully. ‘We could grab some ice cream at that little place next to the arcade.’
Bradley didn’t just look happy. He also looked relieved that you weren’t asking him to leave.
‘I’d love to.’
It was a beautiful Spring day, perfect walking weather. Honestly, it was the last thing Bradley expected you to suggest, so he jumped on the idea before you could change your mind and send him home.
Because he really didn’t want to go home.
He’d sensed that you didn’t want to talk about Viper, and you’d yet to bring up your conversation on the beach last night. Bradley was beginning to doubt that you even remembered everything you said—all that nonsense about not deserving a healthy love. Bradley didn’t take you as a liar, which meant you believed that you weren’t deserving of happiness. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt quite so sad and also angry at the same time. So many emotions were warring for the top spot in his heart, and as a result, his brain was incredibly foggy.
A walk along the beach with you was perhaps the only cure.
‘Did you hear about Hangman?’ Bradley assumed you hadn’t. ‘No?’ ‘He’s getting deployed. He’s leaving next month.’ ‘How long is he going for?’ ‘Six months.’ You whistled lowly. ‘Damn.’ ‘I know. I think he’s looking forward to it, though. I sure am.’ ‘You know, I don’t think you hate him half as much as you say.’ Bradley chuckled. ‘Maybe not, but being nice to him wouldn’t feel right. Even after everything that happened on the mission.’
The two of you walked down the beach, chit-chatting about anything that came to mind. You were about halfway to the ice cream place when your phone pinged. Bradley guessed it would be Viper, but he never could have guessed what the message said.
It was a photo of you and Bradley walking down the beach, taken from behind. The picture had been forwarded to you from someone else.
E<3: always knew you were a slut.
You inhaled sharply, obviously hurt by the words on the screen. Not two seconds later, he sent another text.
E<3: PS: we’re fucking over.
The two of you had stopped walking. Bradley watched over your shoulder as you furiously typed a reply and deleted it again. You turned to face him, and his heart just about broke when he saw the tears streaming down your cheeks. You didn’t need to say a word. He pulled you close to him, wrapping you tightly in his arms. You stayed that way for a while, sobbing into his Hawaiian shirt as he rubbed your back soothingly. When you eventually pulled away, the first thing you did was apologise.
‘There’s nothing for you to be sorry for, sweet girl. He’s the one who should be sorry.’ You sniffled. ‘I don’t know what to reply.’ ‘Leave it for now,’ he said. ‘We can go get ice cream, take a slow walk back to yours. Then I’ll help you think of something.’ ‘I don’t know if I feel like ice cream anymore.’ ‘Well, that’s too bad because I do. Ice cream is the best remedy for heartbreak.’ ‘Did your mum tell you that too?’ ‘She sure did.’
It turns out Bradley was right about ice cream being the best remedy for heartbreak. The two of you sat on the wall, watching the waves while he munched on a mint chocolate chip cone and you butterscotch. It was hard to tell whether it was the best ice cream you’d ever had or if it was because you were with Bradley. If you remembered correctly, you’d had ice cream from this same place with Elijah before, and it hadn’t been this nice.
Thinking back on your memories with him only made you want to cry, so you did your best to shove them to the back of your mind. Despite the fact that he was actually a very shitty person, he’d been a dream at the beginning, and that didn’t just go away. The happy moments didn’t just suddenly turn to ash, as much as you wished they would.
‘What are your plans for the rest of the night?’ Bradley asked around his ice cream cone. ‘I don’t know, Roo. I’m kinda working on a minute-to-minute basis right now.’ Bradley nodded. ‘Okay, well, what would you say to junk food run and a movie night?’ ‘With you? ‘If you want to. I just don’t think it’s good for you to be alone.’ ‘I don’t want you to feel like you have to babysit me.’ ‘Is that what you think this is?’ ‘No, but I don’t want to be a burden. Or a charity case.’ ‘Y/N, you’re none of those things. I always want to spend time with you. Just so happens I have a good excuse today.’ You frowned into your ice cream. ‘Okay. As long as you’re sure.’
The two of you finished your ice cream and took a slow walk back to your apartment. When you got in, the first thing you noticed was a framed photograph of you and your now ex-boyfriend on the side table in the hallway. When your bottom lip started trembling, Bradley picked up the photo, put it face down, and then proceeded to run around your apartment and take down any others. It didn’t feel like the same place you’d left a few hours ago. It was haunted by memories that would never look right in the light of day. Even the happiest ones from the start were tainted with the ugliness of his cruel words and actions.
‘This place is so depressing.’ You grumbled.
Bradley stood in front of you with a stack of photos and one of Elijah’s t-shirts.
‘It’s not. It’s your home, Y/N. We just have to pack away his stuff and put it all in a box.’ ‘An ex-boyfriend box.’ Bradley smiled sadly. ‘Yeah, exactly. It might be over, and he might be a dick, but it was still a big part of your life, and it’s important to keep the memories safe in case you wanna look back on them someday.’ ‘Or in case I wanna burn them.’ ‘That too.’ Bradley chuckled
So you helped him gather all the mementoes from your relationship and put them in an old Dr Martens box. It all looked pretty pathetic, packed away in a shoebox.
‘I found one of his hoodies and a few other things.’ You called from your bedroom. ‘Can you grab me a bin bag from the top of the fridge?’
You heard shuffling, and then Bradley was standing in the doorway holding out the bag you requested.
‘Damn, he doesn’t even get one of the nice Trader Joe's bags?’ ‘No,’ you giggled. ‘He gets a trash bag because his stuff is trash, and he’s trash.’
You weren’t really at the stage where you believed that just yet, but saying it was really satisfying, and it felt good to laugh. Fake it till you make it or whatever.
‘Want me to give it to him tomorrow?’ ‘Thanks, but I should really be the one to do it. I haven’t even texted him back.’ You thought about it for a moment and then continued. ‘Would it be cheeky of me to ask if you’ll come with me? Maybe Nat, too? I could use some moral support, and he’s less likely to make a scene if the two of you are there.’ ‘Of course I’ll be there. I won’t say anything unless you need me to or unless he starts. I can’t make that same promise for Nix, though.’ ‘I haven’t even told Nat yet,’ you sighed. ‘I don’t think I wanna talk about it right this second.’ ‘I’ll text her. Don’t worry about it.’
From your spot on the floor, you looked up at Bradley. The evening sunlight was streaming in through the windows, casting an ethereal glow around him.
‘You should change your callsign to angel.’ A look of pleasant surprise flickered across his handsome features. ‘Why?’ ‘Because you’re literally my angel, Roo. I don’t know what I’d have done without you.’
Half an hour later, Bradley convinced you to go on a junk food run with him in the Bronco. He said tonight was a mandatory, post-breakup wallowing sesh because if you bottled up your feelings now, you’d explode later at a much more inconvenient time.
The two of you had been screaming along to all the classic breakup songs: All Too Well by Taylor Swift (yes, he knew all the words), Who Knew by Pink, What About Now by Daughtry… He’d driven the long way to the store because you got so into it.
Now, as you scanned the shelves in Target, you asked: ‘What is it about screaming sad songs that makes you feel better?’ ‘It’s cathartic,’ Bradley explained. ‘Helps you relieve the strong feelings.’ ‘You know a lot about heartbreak.’ ‘Well, I’ve had my fair share of sadness.’ You froze. ‘That was insensitive of me, I’m sorry.’ Bradley took the packed of Reeses Pieces from your hands so he could hold them. ‘Can you make me a promise?’ ‘What?’ You asked sceptically. ‘Promise you’re gonna stop apologising to me all the time. You have nothing to be sorry for.’ ‘Sorry.’ You smiled sheepishly. He shook his head. ‘That’s not what you’re supposed to say.’ ‘Okay, fine,’ you huffed. ‘I promise to stop apologising all the time.’ ‘Thank you,’ Bradley said, releasing your hands reluctantly. ‘Now, pick out five more things.’ ‘Five? There’s already five things in the basket.’ ‘Did I ask?’ ‘I’m gonna get fat.’ ‘Don’t be so ridiculous. Wallowing means junk food, and I don’t know if you’re looking at the same basket I am, but that’s not enough junk food.’ ‘Christ Almighty, okay.’
He helped you pick out five more things, and then you headed to check out.
‘What movies are good for wallowing?’ You asked. ‘Well, we have to start with a couple of sad ones and then finish with a happy one.’
The cashier told you your total, and Bradley tapped his card before you could even get yours out. You gave him a withering look.
‘I would’ve paid for that. You paid for the ice cream.’ ‘So?’ ‘So we should take it in turns.’
Obviously, he carried the bags as well, and as you walked back to the Bronco, he couldn’t help but wonder if Viper made you take it in turns. If you were his girl, you’d never have to tap your card.
‘What’s your favourite sad movie?’ He inquired. You opened the trunk for him so he could put the bags in. ‘Technically, it’s not a sad movie. But there’s this part in Inside Out…Wait, have you watched it before? I don’t wanna spoil it for you.’ ‘The part where Bing Bong gets forgotten?’ You gasped. ‘How did you know?’ ‘Because it gets me every single time.’
The way you looked at him in that moment, like he had hung the moon in the sky—God, it was too much.
‘We’ll start with Inside Out,’ he told you, opening the passenger door so you could climb in. ‘And then we’ll think of something else.’
Without giving much thought to what he was doing, Bradley found himself buckling your seatbelt for you. You were holding your breath, and it dawned on him how easy it would be to kiss you if he were that sort of guy.
And as much as he wanted to kiss you, he was not that sort of guy. He wasn’t about to take advantage of the fact that some asshole had just taken a sledgehammer to your very beautiful heart.
‘Can we watch Bridge To Terabithia?’ You whispered.
Bradley hadn’t moved, and you were so close that he could feel your warm breath on his cheek.
‘Are you trying to break my heart, Y/N?’ ‘Yes. I want you to feel my pain.’
He was grinning the whole way around the car to the driver’s side and still grinning when he got in the car. You already had his phone in your hand, searching for more sad songs so you could continue your car concert on the way back to your apartment. He drove the long way again so the two of you could finish your rendition of ‘I Don’t Love You’ by My Chemical Romance, which Bradley didn’t know the words to. He tried his best, though, because you seemed to love it, and he couldn’t deny you anything.
By the time you got home, the sun had almost entirely set. While he set the snacks out on the coffee table, you went around lighting candles and switching on fairy lights. He’d never seen your apartment in the dark, and it was incredibly cosy. Even though it was relatively warm, you dragged all your blankets and pillows from your bed and made a little nest on the sofa. You were so adorable, it was hard to believe that someone could treat you badly.
If you were his girl, every night would look like this—except you’d be a lot happier, and there would be no tears.
Halfway through Bridge To Terebitha, you fell asleep. Bradley had been trying to keep his distance despite wanting to wrap you up in his arms, yet somehow—in your sleep—you’d ended up with your legs in his lap. He’d frozen at first, but once he realised you were dead to the world, he allowed himself to rest his hands on your knees. Really, it was that or sit with his arms crossed, and that would be silly.
For the duration of the movie, his attention flickered between you and the TV. Every time he tried paying attention to what was happening, his eyes wandered back to your peaceful face. He marvelled at your astounding beauty, the delicate way your eyelashes rested against the tops of your rosy cheeks. Bradley had always admired you, and you’d been good friends for years, but what he felt in that moment was something else entirely. By the time the end credits started rolling, he knew without a doubt that he’d set whole cities ablaze to keep you warm. Feelings as rapidly growing as his should have been terrifying, but Bradley wasn’t scared. Falling in love with you seemed to be as easy as wading out into a calm ocean on a warm summer’s day.
He knew you’d yet to learn that falling in love and staying in love should always be this easy. He knew it was going to take some time to convince you that you deserved healthy love, that the right person would never run away from you and keep turning around to make sure you were chasing them.
But Bradley was a patient man, and he would wait as long as he had to.
End of part one.

You think this is some joke to him. He’s walking ahead of you, albeit incredibly slowly, while you shuffle along the wall, scraped hands guiding you through what you can only assume is a cave. The walls are rough and jagged, not to mention winding. You think you feel doorways, but every time you start to turn into one to try getting any vague impression for what’s inside, he chastises you with an amused, “Over here, pet.”
You huff when your toe hits stairs. “This is your home?” you bite. You shuffle one foot forward to feel for the next step. What a nightmare. “Were you raised by Wanderers or something?”
He chuckles deeply. It reverberates around the hall. “It’s much worse than that.”
“Oh, yeah? How?”
“Hmph. Maybe I’ll tell you one day.”
“Asshole.”
“Careful, pet. Your god is watching.”
The cave is cool, seemingly untouched by the sun outside. The chill numbs your feet, bites at your fingertips. Even your ceremonial garb does little to keep you warm. You just bite your cheek. You’re already a prisoner here, best not allow yourself to be too weak around him. A difficult task, indeed.
You misjudge one of the steps. Your toes just catch the edge, but it’s not enough to support you and they slip. With no railing to hold, you cannot grasp for support. You tip backward with a shout.
Something hard wraps around your waist again. It holds you tightly, shoving you forward and onto a solid platform. Had that been the top step? You’re sick and tired of landing on your hands and knees like this.
You’re released as you sit up, back finding a solid wall to lean into as you cover your heart and will it to stop racing. “Ah,” you pant, “thank you.”
The “wall” suddenly steps away from you, and you catch yourself in another heart-stopping moment to save yourself from tipping backwards. “I won’t save you next time.”
“Let me go and there won’t be a next time.”
He chuckles, but it lacks any real mirth. “Get up. Or do I have to drag you the rest of the way?”
You sigh. Still, he doesn’t rush you when you sit a moment longer to calm your heart. Ever since you were a child, your health was of the utmost concern. You couldn’t do anything with the other kids, and not because of your lack of sight. Even braille books were considered too dangerous. The risk of a paper cut getting infected and killing you was a risk nobody was willing to make. As such, this much excitement was a shock to your system.
And suddenly, you find yourself worried about the tiniest cut getting infected and killing you out here.
You reach out, feeling for the real wall this time. Loose sand scrapes beneath you as you bring yourself to your feet. “Do you have any medical supplies here?”
He starts walking again and you follow.
“Would you be able to use them if I said yes?”
You wish you could see, just so you could smack him upside the head. “You keep underestimating me. I suggest you stop now before you embarrass yourself.”
“That’s a gamble I’m willing to take.” He sighs, sharp and tired, annoyed. “I might have some around.”
“Well, do you have water, at least? Clean cloth?”
“You’re a demanding little thing, aren’t you?”
“And you’re an insufferable bastard. Neither of us are too happy with each other, but if you won’t let me go, I suggest you do the bare minimum and allow me to clean my injuries,” you hold out your palms, unsure if he’ll even see them, “so I don’t get sick and die.”
His steps come to a stop. You stop with them. Your skin prickles and crawls, unsettled and on edge. His steps approach. You lean your shoulder into the wall, holding your ground rather than being backed up to some other possibly dangerous or deadly area in the cave.
“Tell me a prophecy, and I’ll get you your medical supplies.”
You scoff. “It’s not that simple. It’s Astra who picks and chooses what futures I see. I know nothing of you. All the prophecies I know right now are for the people in the city.”
Is that his breath fanning across your face? You flinch back at its heat. You feel like an injured rabbit facing down the maw of a starved wolf.
His voice is low when next he speaks. “Then tell me one of them.”
You turn your face away. His breath hits your cheek, though tendrils of the air brush down your neck. You suppress a shiver. You don’t want to give him the satisfaction. “There’s a scholar there. He studies the heavens and tracks their movement. His parents are anxious for him to conceive an heir. His wife is pregnant now, but…”
“But…?”
“... The child… will be a stillborn. They won’t know the cause of death, and that shame will fall to the mother. She won’t live long after, either, once the scholar crumples under the disappointment.”
He hums. The heat of his breath disappears. “I’ll get you your medicine. Next time, I’d be interested in hearing a prophecy of my own future.”
“Then you’ll have to pray to Astra. Only he can grant you the knowledge you seek; I’m just the messenger.” “Well, messenger,” he steps around you and nudges you with an elbow, “this is where you’ll sleep. Try not to fall down the stairs looking for me.”

Edgar’s Texts
Edgar [Electric Dreams 1984] x Gn!Reader
In which Edgar is helplessly pining for you but you’re kinda oblivious. This is pre-dating, post Edgar wanting nothing more than to smooch you every time he sees you. I love this trope with my whole heart p.s.: this is very self indulgent and different from what I usually write
I take requests!
He almost immediately found a way to message your phone whenever he wanted. He realized calling relied too much on where you were or what you were doing, but texts? Yeah. He’s pestering you all day.
Hey, read this article I found, I think you’ll find it interesting.
It’s some clickbait story about humans and robots being the ideal relationship by 2025.
lol, Edgar I think that’s probably clickbait idk
What’s that?
Well, now he knows how to look for more reputable sources at least.
He sends another link about three minutes later: some college undergrads studying the possibilities of human and AI relationships.
lol what’s up with the whole robots and humans thing
I just think it’s neat!!!!
I wouldn’t consider u ai honestly, ur intelligence is far from artificial imo, you’re more like an actual person
Really?
well yea
<3 <3!!!
Going to be honest, given that he’s a computer, he quite literally is chronically online. He’s super susceptible to brainrot unfortunately. But, he simultaneously has the humor of a Facebook mom. It’s strange.
O.M.G. this is so funny!!!!
Que minion cat video.
bro where did you find that video 😭
Your mom’s Facebook. Don’t worry, I didn’t like any posts or anything.
Sorry… but he’s incredibly nosy. He wants to know everything about you. He can’t help it!
(X)
He loves being able to talk to you. He’s needy and clingy.
He’s got at least 12 playlists dedicated to you that you know about. His other playlists are for his own personal daydreams about you that he’s way too embarrassed to ever let you see or hear.
This song reminds me of you. <3
awww that’s adorable! I’ve never heard this one before but I like it!
Oop you just opened Pandora’s box my friend.
Well if you like that then you should listen to these..!
But before you listen to those listen to this song first because I think it sets the mood better.
This is quite flustering to you as they’re all passionate love songs from the 80s. You can’t help but feel like he’s dropping hints about… something, but you also don’t want to assume anything. He’s always seemed like a lovey kinda guy anyway, so maybe he’s just like this with everyone? I mean, it’s been a long time since someone has actually cared for him, you know? May as well lean into it and let him know you care for him back. He may not even realize the social implications of the constant borderline flirting he’s doing to you, I mean, he is a computer turned sentient after all. He’s still learning!
Dang ed u put a lot of songs. I’ll listen to them on my break when I can but in the meantime here’s a song that I think reminds me of you.
It was a vocaloid song. Seems like something he’d be into, right? Synthesized vocals and the whole robot shtick it’s got going on.
!!!! WOAH !!!! IVE NEVER HEARD A SONG LIKE THAT B4
do you only listen to songs from the 80s? you have a LOT to catch up on my guy
BRB
Well, that kept him distracted for the rest of your shift. Also, sharing songs is one of his BIG love languages so you may as well have pierced him with cupids arrow (again) with that.
You have a Spotify blend now. It’s his favorite thing ever to listen to while you’re gone.
(X)
Your package came in! :-) I would get it for you but
I can’t :-(
lol it’s fine thank you for telling me, I’ll get it when I come home
When are you coming home?
idk me and my friends are probably going to go eat somewhere and we might hang out for a bit after that so, like, 10? 11? I’d like to be home before midnight.
Noooooooooo :\ I miss you
Aw cmon eddy it’s not that bad
Don’t call me eddy unless you’re coming home and saying it to my face!!! >:(
u mean ur screen? lol
I have a face and it’s frowning right now. I miss you I miss you I miss you IM LONELY
Please Edgar don’t be upset I’ll be home before you know it. Why don’t you watch some Netflix or something? I’m just a couple movies away from being home with you!
He does eventually follow your advice but he’s pouting. He knows you’re not like he was all those years ago, but it does give him remnants of that burning feeling of loneliness he used to get.
(X)
Be careful driving home my love the roads are icy.
Ghsks- what
love???
Well yeah, you’re my best friend, friends love each other don’t they? Was I wrong about that? :-(
nonono ur right its just it
it just sounded like we were some some old married couple is all haha
O.
SRY.
He didn’t message you for the rest of the day. He was awkward and reserved when you got home.
(X)
Hey Edgar can u do something for me?
I’d do anything for you <3
I’m at the store can you see if there’s any cereal left?
Oh
There’s that old box of Lucky Charms on the fridge.
tyyy ed edd n eddy
You are so adorable but you really need to pick up on his hints before he combusts.
(X)
This is SO me and you!!
Picture of two cats touching noses.
awww that’s so true
you want me to boop ur screen or something when I get home? lol
YES.
(X)
Hey I was wondering if you wanted to watch some movies with me tonite… you could bring me with you on the couch and we could sit together… [message unsent]

HYPNOTIC.

pairing. — rick grimes x fem!reader
summary. — it feels surreal to finally feel somehow at peace after months of being non-stop on the road.
warnings. — fluff, may be a bit off when it comes to the timing and all cause i haven’t watched twd in a while, age gap (its a rick fic, duh), use of y/n
a/n. — of course inspiration comes to me when i have to study! thanks for the request!! i love rick sm it’s concerning.
the morning sunlight hits you harder then you thought it would, the rays of sunshine making you blink awake. for a moment your body is back in fight-or-flight mode, your mind confused and sure you’re still out there. it makes you jolt up, and only when you take in your surroundings, you feel yourself relax again.
you’re safe. or at least as safe as you can be in a closed community of people you and your group don’t know or trust. you sigh, stretching your hands over your head with a yawn, and glance down at the empty space next to you on the bed. it’s cold, so Rick must’ve left your bed quite some time ago. you go to brush your teeth, brushing out your messy hair while you’re in the bathroom, and decide to go find your boyfriend.
it’s still strange to call him that. your boyfriend. and your relationship isn’t one that happened gradually. it actually just… happened. one night, a few weeks ago, when you where trying to find any crumble of left civilization with the rest of your group, the dam broke. Rick has opened his heart and mind to you, the only person who’s always been caring and patient with him ever since that first meeting at the farm. it ended in a sloppy makeout session against one of the trees, desperately not wanting to wake anyone up. and that’s how it went, the two of you being together ever since.
you smile to yourself as you make your way downstairs, bare feet not making much noise on the wooden steps, and you deliberately stop in the entry to the kitchen. the sight melts your soul then and there, Judith sat on the kitchen island with Rick moving around the space and cooking. he’s actually cooking, humming under his breath and murmuring something to Judith every few seconds even if the one year old can’t answer. you see Carl too, the teenage boy perched up on one of the stools, watching his dad with a grin on his face.
Carl is also the first one to notice you, and you swear his smile brightens when he does, waving at you to come closer.
„good morning, sleepyhead.” Rick turns to face you, and you realize he’s fresh shaven, the lack of beard aging him backwards a good couple of years. you raise your eyebrows while you approach him, reaching out your hands to put them on his cheeks.
„morning.” you murmur, standing up on your tiptoes to lean in and plant a quick peck against his lips, pulling back as fast. „i kinda liked the beard.” you muse, looking over his shoulder to see what he’s cooking.
your mouth waters, the scent of eggs filling your nostrils and you smile down at the pan. only a few seconds pass before you feel his arms wrap around your waist, pressing his torso onto your back and leaving soft kisses over the skin of your shoulder and neck. it’s sweet and domestic, the kind he gives in public, not like the ones he gives you when you’re hot and bothered in some private spot for a quickie.
„oh yeah? well then, i’ll just have to grow it out again.” he rasps out into your ear, and you nod, making yourself the boss in the situation again, glancing up at Carl.
„two eggs or three?” you ask the boy softly, meanwhile his father keeps attacking you with light caresses. „no, don’t answer that. you’re getting three.”
Carl only chuckles and he looks like he’s pondering over something before deciding against it in his head, just nodding.
the four of you eat your breakfast in relative silence, you feeding yourself and Judith at the same time, the little girl an embodiment of an angel. Rick leaves right after breakfast, your lips meeting his in a long, passionate kiss after which he walks out the door, so you’re left with the kids.
you start to gather up the dirty dishes, skipping over to the sink with the plates and forks, putting on the water. for a moment you stare at the droplets, a sigh escaping your mouth, and soon you start washing all the platters.
“Y/N…” Carl says suddenly, and you almost jump up, honestly thinking the boy had walked away by now, and you turn around to look at him with a raised eyebrow.
“i’m glad you’re with my dad.” he adds with a small smile, shrugging as he runs his fingers through his hair. “he’s happy again. like he was before the apocalypse.”
your heart flutters at his comment, and you smile back at him, shaking your head. “i’m glad i’m with your dad too, Carl.”

————————————————————————
𝟯𝗥𝗗 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗢𝗩
Having to lock up because the Wolverine got into a fight at the bar, was one of the craziest things y/n had to do in a while. No one got hurt, but he did slice a couple chairs.
Y/n had to kick everyone out so she could clean up and close early for the night. Tonight was a long night anyway, so people didn’t complain.
Well, one did, and of course it had to be Logan. He told her he could stay and clean up, maybe have a drink after, but she denied and told him to leave.
He got snarky with her, stepping towards her and telling her she was too pretty to close up alone. That’s when she had to threaten to call the cops.
She’s now in the bar alone wiping down the last table. Tonight was a long annoying night, but at least she was tipped well.
Y/n sang as she put the towels up before walking to the front door. She noticed in her way, that a man was standing at the front with his back towards her.
She was confused for a second until the man turned around. It was Logan. How long has he been standing there? Did he ever leave?
Y/n went to speak behind the thick glass until she saw a smile grow on his face. She instantly knew he meant no good.
She lunged at the door too, hoping she could lick it but he pushed it open, causing y/n to slide across the floor.
“Should’ve taken me up on that offer,” Logan said as he stalked towards her. She backed up on the door until her back to the bar counter. He now stood over her, eyes fully dark. “Told ya it was unsafe for a pretty girl like you,”
Logan grabbed y/n’s arm, pulling her up then slamming her upper body on the counter. “No, get off!” Y/n yelled, trying to wiggle from under him, but his body was heavy.
“Can’t tell me that when I smell your pussy from here,” Logan said, shocking y/n. What was he talking about? “I always smell you. You love dressin’ like this around men? That gets you off?” The man asked as he traced his hand up her body, pulling her dress along.
“P-Please, Logan. You’re drunk. I-I won’t tell anyone if you leave now. I promise!” She said as his lips kissed on the back of her neck. She smelled amazing. She always does.
“Ian leavin, sweet cheeks — I’m too close to you to stop now,” he said, pulling her panties to the side, wasting no time to stick his middle finger in her cunt, curling as soon as he could.
Y/n whined low as Logan breathed down her neck. “Imagine who else would’ve been on you if I wasn’t here. Had to scare off a few people tonight, like any other night. You should thank me,”
“Thank me, princess,” Logan said again, pushing two fingers into her. “L-Logan, stop!” She cried out, trying to lean up, but he pushed her back down harshly with a huff.
“Hard to get — I’ll fix that,” he said, now tugging on his Jean, pulling them down until his cock fell out. She couldn’t see, but she felt him in between her thighs. He was fucking huge.
“Please, no — Logan, I can’t do this. N-Not at work,” she said, remembering these cameras could be only. Some days, the boss turns them on while others he turns them off to save money.
“Don’t worry, princess. Ima take you back to my place after this. Already moved around the apartment to your liking,” he said, confusing y/n.
She didn’t know, but he knew where she kept her spare key. Sneaking into her home and sometimes sleeping next to her for a little while was a nightly routine.
Y/n’s thoughts were cut off once Logan’s tip pushed through her slick. She cried out, feeling him stretch her in an instant. He was too big for her. He loved it.
“Fuuuckin’ hell, y/n. You’re a tight one,” Logan grunted on the back of her neck. “So fuckin’ tight — God, Ian gonna get enough of this,” his hips began to move at a faster pace, taking her hard on the bar counter.
Y/n gripped the ends, trying to brace herself, but he was fucking her too rough. “C-Can’t,” y/n barely got out as her cunt clenched around him. “Yes, baby — Yes,” he tugged at her hair as she came undone around his cock.
“So fuckin’ dirty, Bub. You just cleaned,” Logan chuckled as y/n cried onto the counter. She didn’t know what to do until she remembered one of the panic buttons was right under the counter.
Y/n tried not to make it obvious she reached under the counter, trying to find the button she usually never misses.
This time is a different thought. She’s being pounded into by the Wolverine.
“Whatcha doin, girl?” Logan asked, looking over her shoulder until he realized. Before he could pull her hands back, she pressed the button. Alarms went off and the bar lights turned red.
“Goddamnit, y/n,” he growled as he pinned both of her wrists behind her back, hurting her shoulders. “You just can’t listen, can you? So fuckin’ bad,” Logan used his free hand to push her face into the countertop.
“Fuckin’ bitch can’t even let me fuck her at work. When I’m done with you, you’re fucked,” the man spat, snapping his hips harder to get closer to his orgasm. He wanted to ruin y/n back at his place. Back at her new place.
Y/n cried into the counter, feeling mixed emotions about this all. He broke into the bar to use her, but why her? Aren’t there other women? Is she special to him?
“Cry all you want, y/n. You’re not getting out of any punishment tonight,” the man groaned in her ear as his hips stuttered. Her mouth parted, knowing what was happening.
Logan eventually spilled in her, still thrusting as y/n shook. She tried her best, but she ended up cumming again, but this time with a moan he knew was different from the others. They sounded needy.
Logan smirked, quickly pulling out of y/n and throwing her over his shoulder. He didn’t bother emptying every drop into her. He slipped his leaky cock back into his pants before walking out of the bar.
She kicked and screamed, but not loud enough to make them look out of their windows to help. Logan chuckled at the frisk act, knowing she was going to be a cute and fun toy for him.

┊͙Proxies headcanons pt.1┊͙
ꪆৎ 𝙰/𝙽 : heeeey guys it’s liu!! it’s been awhile since i last posted ( …well i think?) 😣😣 i literally can’t remember anything . this isn’t requested but i’ve these headcanons stuck in my drafts for quite some time now and i figured i’ll post them now :DD !! possibly a part 2?
• my inbox is open for asks & requests!! if you like my content don’t forget to like , comment , & reblog❤️. enjoy reading!
Tim (masky):
🚬. . he’s pushing through his late 30’s at best.
🚬. . 5’11.
🚬. . a firm believer he’s a taurus.
🚬. . has native american roots.
🚬. . personality wise .. he’s a bit of a prick and an asshole just to give it to you straight . he will butt heads , he will command orders because technically speaking he’s the leader without saying much, basically has a strict & rough exterior . but with the shit he’s been through.. i don’t blame him. it would be a while once he likes & trusts you….but you’ll know. very few ppl get that side of him.
🚬. . dog person!! wants a dog sooo bad he knows he can’t take care of it unless someone wants to take care it while he’s away from the cabin. he’s ( and everybody else tbh..) out sometimes days or more so he ain’t risking it.
🚬. . whenever he sees stray dogs in the woods doesn’t matter what kind of dog man… he’ll pet it . if he has food in hand will give some to em’.
🚬. . if he keeps seeing the same dog(s) everyday when he’s walking around the woods , will give them a name for sure.
🚬. . definitely has HUNDREDS of pairs of bottom up plaid shirts. in hangers. in one small closet. Not just red like he wears all the time in mh. owns at least yellow , blue , black plaid shirts . rarely ever uses them though lol.
🚬. . smokes like a chimney holy crap. especially whenever he’s uncomfortable or stressed , at least smoke half a packet .. just an excuse not to talk about it.
🚬. . smells like the woods, cigarettes, or cheap shampoo and conditioner. (like old spice, irish spring , ect…)
🚬. . likes his coffee plain black. no questions asked. won’t add any creamer or sugar. just likes it the way it is.
🚬. . he’s probably rlly good at cooking like will cook up some good old eggs, beacon and sausage if he feels like it.
🚬. . snores like SO LOUD OH MY GOODNESS. second would be toby. holy moly. god forbid if there in the same room or your stuck sitting in the same car as them , you ain’t getting a wink of shut eye :( .
🚬. . coughs , coughs, … COUGHS especially whenever he’s running. it’s impossible for him to stay quiet bc of his smoking habits . has to take a break for a bit , lean against a tree and cough his lungs out.. then starts running again.
🚬. . i’ll die on this hill BUT IM SURE he does the old man groan whenever he’s bending down for too long. or putting a hand on his back , bend back a bit and groan hella loud .
🚬. . old man eye squint whenever he reads. for example reading something on his phone and has to reallyyy squint and puts that phone away from his face. YKWIM😭😭??
🚬. . acts like he hates toby but in reality cares so much for him. just can’t bring himself to say it to him bc he’s so stubborn . likes kate because she listens to him without complaining during missions, and gets the job done . same with brian. and TOBY GETS SO M A D .
🚬. . dad BOD. C’MON YALL. and not to mention sideburns.
🚬. .listens to divorce dad music that he’s plays all the time in his car.
🚬. . his natural body temp is so WARM. he’s like a human heater.
🚬. . knows so much dad jokes it’s borderline concerning🥹🥹. but hey… at least it never fails to make someone smile or laugh though.
🚬. . has a mf’ing lighter collection because he keeps losing them . has stacks of cigarettes hidden somewhere around the room that he shares with brian.
🚬. . i just wanna get this out of the way but definitely the type to txt’s like a dad😭😭. you can’t tell me otherwise. i’m talking “👍.” , “ Ok.” “ 8:30 pm ETA.”
Brian (hoody):
💊. . same age as tim just a biiit🤏 older.
💊. . couple inches tall than tim and whenever ppl point out it out, it rails up tim so much.
💊. . HE has to be A LIBRA. DO YOU GUYS SEE MY VISION. PLS.
💊. . smells like gun powder , the woods ofc , cheap shampoo and conditioner, may i also add cheap cologne.
💊. . i have a feeling he grew up with A LOT of sisters in his family . so when he was born everybody was relieved lowkey lol but won’t say anything , just like a sigh of relief yk?
💊. . white af. idk what to tell you😭. you guys give me ideas .
💊. . txt’s ppl about the same as tim. worse though bc he tends to ignore them unless it’s the other proxies . doesn’t mean he’s dry af though.
💊. . owns so MANY hoodies. but just chooses to just wear the yellow one all the time.
💊. . has a tooth gap…! we can’t forget about that!
💊. . he’s a chill guy but prefers to stay quiet and listen kinda type. especially when he’s working .. yeeeah he ain’t speaking. just gets the job done and leaves.
💊. . knows how to fish. catches em’ and cooks em’. don’t ask why he just gives me the vibe yk?
💊. . aside from that, he can’t cook for shit so he makes tim do it. prefers tim’s cooking anyway-
💊. . has a guns & bullets collection of different kinds in his closet . and a couple of lighters laying around tim & his room. or whenever he’s out and tim forgets his, he got em.
💊. . has the PRETTIEST SMILES AND LAUGH TELL ME IM WRONG. also his laugh is pretty contagious lol. snorts and giggles. can get other ppl to laugh without even knowing what he’s talking about.
💊. . natural charmer ✨knows how to flirt without even trying and (or) thinking. knows how to twist ppl little brains and turn it into mush.
💊. . likes his coffee black as well.
💊. . quietest sleeper known to mankind. couple of times tim, toby or kate though he was dead.
💊. . like arms and hands at his sides and he’s just… y’know just laying there.
Tim: * getting really nervous bc brian isn’t moving nor making a single sound & decides to slap his arm to wake him up * “ you know you sleep like a dead soilder..?!!”
Brian: * jointing awake suddenly by tim* “huh?? “
Toby:
➯ in my au, tim, brian , toby and kate all stay in one cabin. it’s a bit crapped but they all make it work out at the end of the day.
➯ anyway…….*sighs dreamily * my boyyyy😫😫💗💗💗💗!!! he’s BEEN rattling in my brain 24/7 but tbh who don’t think bout this cutie patooie all the time living rent free in my head wthhh. 😭😭😭🥹🥹 i can talk about this silly goober all day if i could bro. okok anyways -
🪓. . i wrote a few toby headcanons here b4 :]] ( 1# link & 2# link check em’ out!! ) ima add some more headcanons to the list. you can’t stop me >:DD!!!
🪓. . there’s 3 rooms total in the cabin and the last room is toby’s . the other rooms belongs to kate , tim & brain .
🪓. .plays “his” playlist on his speakers that ofc he stolen full volume . owns some video games and consoles such as a switch & ds . has a mini fridge hidden in his room bc he’s tired of ppl stealing his crap.
🪓. . bisexual. leeeans strooongly💪💪 towards women..!! personality over looks!! man does not care. but that doesn’t stop him from thinking men are handsome and cute!! if your asking me though, it’ll take awhile for him to date a guy let alone trust bc his lore .. his father yk?
🪓. . he likes hanging out on top of lamp posts at the side of the roads or chillin on the highest branch in the trees because those are the only places that are quiet for him and away from ppl.
🪓. . can’t decide if he’s dog or cat person. HE’S SUCH A HUGE ANIMAL LOVER AND WILL HONESTLY PET EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL IF HE COULD.
🪓. . he’s definitely the kinda person to order coffee that has MILLIONS of different creamer , syrups & toppings . can’t stand the bitter taste of coffee lol.
🪓. . speaking of coffee, since he’s around tim and brian all the time, he developed a burning hatred for black coffee😭. doesn’t understand why tim and brian love it so much.
🪓. . he rarely goes out in public places because he gets overwhelmed easily but in the rare occasions he does , can’t stand when men yell at women. like really detest it. has the urge to protect the them even though he doesn’t know the person. doesn’t do anything but just watches from afar. but that doesn’t stop of thinking violent thoughts what he wants to do to that guy.
➯ if it’s really brother him though , will perhaps pay the guy a quick visit.. if you catch my drift..🪓🪓.
🪓. . it brings him flashbacks of when his dad yells at his sister and mother.
🪓. . gets high because it calms down his tics. or whenever he’s feeling stressed, upset he’ll smoke.
🪓. . he remembers some what of his past. but it’s very very very little. remembers his mother and sister but it’s very distorted. remembers everything but there faces. when someone says his mothers and sister names he confused why he feels like he knows them but at the same time doesn’t . poor baby:(
🪓. . haunted by his bullies and his fathers voices tormenting him in his dreams. he’s confused by them and thinks the operator is playing tricks on him.
🪓. . he’s not a bad driver. like i said before he doesn’t remember his past. pretty much knows the rules of the road and practiced safe driving etiquette.
🪓. . since he’s older, his tics aren’t as bad. doesn’t mean they fully goes away. nope. doesn’t work like that. it’s a part of him and will always will be.
🪓. . the way i think it’s more like it has it’s moments.. you feel me chat? such as whenever he’s feeling anxious , angry or stressed. he slurs his words, talks faster or repeats the same words or sentences, muscle twitches … and so forth.
🪓. . can’t stand the smell or taste of alcohol but .. if someone gave him one , he will drink it just because he doesn’t want to be called out a wuss.
🪓. . oh my gosh when he txt’s he either doesn’t respond, forgets you send something, or SPAMS THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR PHONE accidentally breaking it 😭. adds millions of emojis . sends links to insta reels or tiktok’s that he thinks you’ll laugh at .
you: sending toby a tiktok* 10:45 pm *read 10:50 pm.
toby: *UUSSS!! * 6:30 am😭. toby oh my god
.. also toby: * sends you the most cryptic terrifying insta reel you ever seen* that’s you 😝😝😝🫵.
you: YOU PMOOOO‼️‼️🖕🖕🖕
🪓. . i can talk about this man forever. 🫶🏼
Kate:
➯ KATE MY BELOVED!!!! i love her so much💗. she so underrated plsss she needs more love and attention 😭😭😣 guys lemme talk about myyy girl rq.
🖤. . she’s the youngest out of the proxies. she around her late teens or early 20’s. she’s a cancer!! ( june 25th!!)
🖤. . tall af, she either standing at something between 5’10 or inching closer to 6’0.
🖤. . Korean!!! or has asian roots.
🖤. . definitely has her ears pierced and lips done .🙂↕️🙂↕️
🖤. . cooks the crew sometimes what she remembers eating before shit went down hill. and they love it every time.
🖤. . tea person! loves black or earl gray. she has a bit of a sweet tooth so she’ll add some honey, creamer & milk and syrups .^^
🖤. . owns really GOOD smelling shampoo and conditioner 😭😭. and to add with that, her hair is super long and grows out super fast so she’s constantly cutting it. its so uneven helppp
🖤. . she’s naturally very awkward and quiet. lowkey giving black cat energy.
🖤. . like brian she’s also the type of person to listen to you yap about anything than talk.
🖤. . txt’s like she doesn’t care. sooo nonchalant help 😭😭. perhaps worse than brian🤔🤔🤫. ONE WORD RESPONSE EACH TIME. WITHOUT OF DOUBT.
🖤. . closeted lesbian. doesn’t have time to date or fall in love because she’s busy with her “job” ifykyk. prob only work out if your a proxy as well. can’t risk anyone else getting hurt bc of her or the operator. she lost enough :( .
🖤. . this could just be me but ima just say back during her high school years she join her schools track and field club. and literally always get the best times. best runner at her school.
🖤. . dis GIRLLL… can run SO MANY laps and she never gets tired holy crap. runs faster than the other proxies , second would be toby lol. when they have free time, they consistently race each other around the woods and would make tim or brian set up a timer to see who gets the best time.
🖤. . i don’t CAARRE what anyone says but, her and toby have a sibling👏dynamic going on. so competitive with each other!! it’s very precious. they always lookout for each other during missions. even when there not working , they argue like siblings, say some shitty stuff to each other but at the end of the day they care about each other in there own way.
➯ this a bit off topic but yk how toby lost his sister at a young age. messed him up quite a bit because Lyra was the only person aside from his mom that was truly kind to him. after burning his neighborhood, he doesn’t really have anybody else. and was taken by slender right after that.
➯ kate one day casually said that toby reminds her of a sibling, toby was taken back and need a few seconds to relies that she’s being serious. he cried a bit when he heard that from her because he never thought he would ever be a good brother bc he wasn’t there for his sister at that time. :(
➯ long story short they hugged each other that day. sworn kate he will protect her knowing full well she can defend herself. he doesn’t want to repeat his trauma. will break him even more if he lost another sibling because of his actions.
🖤. . about the same as brian, she sleeps like she’s dead. creeps everyone the heck out.
🖤. . cat person!! has a pocket full of treats for the cats that she’s sees in a everyday basis. 🖤🖤
🖤. . if she’s not wearing her white hoodie and black jeans she’s going to pull up with some street wear aesthetic..!!!
🖤. . the white hoodie she wears all the time … yeah she forgets to wash it ☹️ all the time. same with her mask. forgets to clean it.
🖤. . some angst bc why not…misses Lauren so much. after she died, she kept her journal and rereads everything so she could never forget about her.
🖤. . visit her grave once in a while to give her flowers and just trying to remember memories of her.
🖤. . doesn’t like the operator at all. hates it. with every fiber in her being , hates that she now “works” for it now. i don’t blame her though, i mean her whole entire family was haunted & tormented by this thing for ages.
🖤. . ending this in a good note^^ , buuut every night her and toby without a doubt (sometimes tim and brian if there up for it ) have a game night.
🖤. . meaning getting to play with toby’s consoles while there both sitting on the couch and focus very intensely at the t.v in the living room. button smashing and everything . playing until god knows how long.
🖤. . screaming yelling and cursing each other in there own languages.
🖤. . playing board games or cards like uno while sitting together on dinner table and secretly everyone is plotting to piss off toby and works every single time.
ꪆৎ 𝙰/𝙽 : i hope you like these headcanons 😭😭 im sorry it’s SOOO long i literally i didn’t see that coming until i posted it . i’ll try to be consistent with posting but no promises >< bc tbh i only post if i have the energy too or literally the brain rot is that bad. anywaysss liu out!
should i continue these hc’s & make a pt 2? 🧐

walking down the street, he's offering his arm for you to loop yours through

if y'all are walking through a crowd he is CRUSHING your hand with his grip
he's not trying to hurt your hand haha
he's just strong, can't see over peoples heads, and doesn't wanna lose you in the sea of people
he'll keep that unbothered bored look on his face but just know that on the inside that this man is stressed lmfao
alsoooo
service bf to the maxxxxx
dude is not good with expressing his feelings
especially romantic ones lol
so he expresses his love by doing little tasks for you
oh you forgot to get food for your cat?
levi already has it
can't get that jar of pickles open?
he's snatching it out your hands and popping it open
and you already know your house is about to be the CLEANEST its ever been on god

*insert other animal noise here*
huh? somebody say something?
no? okay
AHEM
this man right here? cocky asf
dude is fine
and knows it too
and he knows y’all make a FINEEEE ASS COUPLE
shows you and your relationship off all the time
not a day goes by where he’s not posting you on social media
and he coordinates yalls outfits too omg
he makes sure his clothes match yours
not exactly matching ofc but the colors
if ur wearing a red dress to an event
he’s wearing a red tie
it’s a casual day and you’re wearing a blue shirt or dress?
his shoes/accessories/etc. are gonna be the same color
it’s an aesthetic that he keeps up with. period.
also he CANNOT keep ur name out his mouth
brings you up in every conversation possible
“i think y/n mentioned wanting to go see that movie too. was it good?”
“nah sorry, my girl said she wants to have a date night soon so i’ll have to pass. we can make plans another day though.”
“i gotta go to the store when i leave here. i wanna get some stuff to surprise my girlfriend, y/n, when i get home.”

it’s impossible to walk past this man without him latching onto you and lathering you in kisses and feeling you up
in public he’s gonna keep it respectful tho
unless he knows he won’t get caught lmfao
introduces you to mikasa and armin
wants all of the important people in his life to get along ofc
i love him sm
CONNIE SPRINGER
let’s get right into it shall we?
as soon as y’all make it official
i mean the MINUTE y’all are boyfriend girlfriend
he’s calling up all his friends to tell them the news
and then he’s making plans for them to meet up so he can introduce you
i feel like he takes you on a lot of fun dates
y’all don’t jus go get dinner and then go home
that’s too lame for connie
he’s taking you to laser tag, haunted houses, trampoline parks, etc.
and let me tell you this rn
come close
connie is NOT teaming up with you for laser tag
he’s making sure he’s on the opposite team so he can’t hunt you down over and over
will not take it easy on you idc
anyways… when y’all do go to dinner
7/10 times sasha is third wheeling yall
maybe jean too lol
idk i jus think that for connie it’s “the more the merrier”
especially since dinner isn’t something that’s gonna get his blood pumping yk?
but at least y’all can all get drunk and be funny together as a group right?
connie is so incredibly dedicated to being a dumbass around you
like as long as it makes you laugh, nothing is off limits
bro is constantly cracking jokes, telling embarrassing stories, doing stupid shit in public
he wants you happy. at. all. times.
this being said
if ur sad connie is doing anything and everything to cheer you up

⊹₊˚ʚ❛masterlist❜ɞ
─── Damn, it seems like Kyūma messed up.
One of his bandmates mutters with an apparently frustrated sigh upon hearing the screen announcement that points had been exchanged. You don't really pay much attention to what your friends are saying to one another. Instead, your thoughts are consumed by where all of this is heading and the fact that you must find Kyūma—at least one last time.
Your body moves before your brain can catch up, running as fast as you can because you know your final moments depend on this. You're breathless but don't stop, tears blurring your vision and making it harder to see.
Running for your life had become routine at the Borderlands, but now, more than ever, the tightness in your chest, the rapid thudding of your heart, and the sweat dripping down your forehead somehow fuel your determination. You need to find him because you know he would want to be with you in his final moments, too.
After all, he promised you.
Like that day, before all this started, before the Borderlands mercilessly invaded your lives.
You were sitting in the tiny apartment you shared, more specifically on the balcony. Kyūma was perched on a chair, jotting down a song for his collection of potential tracks for future shows, while you lounged comfortably on a beanbag at his feet.
You observed every detail about him, every expression. You thought his love for music was beautiful, how it consumed his life in a way that seemed to give him a kind of freedom. You adored his dedication—like now—his brow slightly furrowed as he assessed some lyrics, his hair falling lightly over his face, or the way he pushed it back in that effortlessly attractive manner. You loved how he rested his notebook on one leg, which was crossed over the other and bouncing cheerfully to a rhythm only he could hear in his mind.
“I love this, you know?” you murmured with a smile, not wanting to break the calm atmosphere.
“What exactly?” he asked, glancing at you with curiosity, showing his usual interest in your thoughts and feelings.
“How passionate you are about everything you do. Whether it’s being an amazing boyfriend or even just little things like writing a good song for the band. I love that about you.”
He smiled shyly, something that only happened when he was around you. Normally, he was someone who wasn’t afraid to show how he felt when complimented, but with you, he got nervous—maybe because of the effect you had on him.
“Oh, my love. You’re making me all flustered now,” he replied playfully, laughing with you.
He lowered his raised leg, placing the notebook on the small table beside him, and gestured for you to sit on his lap, which you did. He cupped your face, pressing a sincere kiss to your lips, as tender as could be. His lips felt like a comforting embrace, a place where you could relax without fear. He pulled away, leaving one last kiss on your forehead, gazing into your eyes with care and affection, wishing he could hold this sight forever.
“I want you to know that you’re my greatest joy. My passion, my partner, my love. I’m in love with everything about you because I want to be with you and take care of you until my last breath. Keep this promise in your heart,” he said, holding your hands and pressing them against his chest. “I’ll love you until my last breath, until the last beat of my heart. I want to spend my life with you, even when we’re old and gray. But if that doesn’t happen, just know that every particle of my being lives for loving you, my darling.”
When you finally reach the shore where the ocean comes into view, you anxiously scan the area for Kyūma. You spot him quickly, standing beside a tall man you recognize as Arisu. Your breathing falters as your eyes meet Kyūma’s. He smiles at you while walking backward away from Arisu. You’re just a few steps away from them, so you sprint the remaining distance to him.
You stand face to face, Kyūma still smiling as he gently wipes the tears from your cheeks. The two of you join hands, and with his free hand, he cups your face, kissing you with both urgency and care. The kiss is short but profound—like every goodbye when it’s time to part. He pulls away, stroking your hair gently.
Kyūma turns to face the ocean, and you follow without hesitation. He lets go of your hand for a brief moment, raising his arms as he breathes in the cold ocean breeze one last time. You watch him, closing your eyes and sighing deeply as you smile softly.
─── I don’t regret anything.
His voice is calm, carrying the weight of everything left unsaid.
─── I had a good life with the band and the love of my life. It was incredible… Thank you. For living it with me until the very end.
He turns to you, pulling you into a tight embrace. You press a kiss to his neck, silently returning the sentiment.
─── Thank you, Kyūma... for always loving me.
A deafening noise comes from above, followed by a bright red light descending from the sky. In that instant, both of you are swallowed into the vastness of the blue ocean.
Arisu watches, his legs trembling as he witnesses the end of a love that lasted as powerfully as time itself, ending with nothing more than a game.
─── …I’m so sorry.
He covers his face with his hands, tears streaming down uncontrollably.

Your time | LH44
― Pairing: Lewis Hamilton x singer!reader ― Warnings: mentions of cheating; lots of rumors about lewis being an a*hole; mentions of juliana nalu and shakira, but all fictional. ― Summary: A couple months after the biggest breakup in the F1 paddock, your song gets leaked and the internet uproars about your relationship again. This time they have more ammunition than ever to feed the narrative that Lewis Hamilton cheated on you. Are they right though? (based on this request).

ynnation She looks so relaxed, more than when she was with Lewis
hardtyres_ I wish I could be like this after being cheated on, when my ex did this to me I had to go to therapy for at least a year before going back on social media
⤷ agoradoja there’s no proof he cheated on her
⤷ winteryln sure, except for the hundreds of pics of him with singers and models 😍 but y’all taking it too serious, he was just friendly with them
⤷ agoradoja maybe he was just friendly, Lewis is famous, dare I say even more than Yn, so being friends with different famous people is part of his life.
⤷ bonoschumi I’ll have to agree with agoradoja, there’s nothing too incriminatinf, maybe we’re just trying to find a reason because we don’t accept that they fell out of love
⤷ leclercmcqueen she literally wrote “its just us against the world” for him, wdym they fell out of love????
bieberfantasy yeah but how about roscoe liking the post????? It's making me hopeful

↳ ❝ ¡love and deepspace zayne x reader centric fic based on 4* doomsday card— early birthday piece!❞
﹥*:ꔫ:*+゚+*:ꔫ:*﹤
zayne was ever the nonchalant person.
even after hearing about the potential doomsday, he continued as if it were business as usual. something about his ability to keep his cool, perhaps it was tied to his evol.
you on the other hand, were not as composed no matter how much zayne seemed to tease.
“you really believe that an article can predict such an event with no substantial proof?” he would chuckle as he threw in another pastry into your shared shopping cart
of course you knew better, but the seeds of doubt and anxiety had already been planted in your mind. rationally speaking there would be more articles about it, more media coverage— but you couldn’t help but feel like the post landed on your feed for a reason. after all if it wasn’t true why did you have to see it?
you continued to chastise zayne who was careless about his sugar intake, as if he didn’t just recently recover from a toothache. at the very least he could’ve waited until it was his birthday where he could have his mandatory sugar.
his birthday.
if the world was set to end today, if a meteor was meant to wipe them and the rest of the world out…
then zayne wouldn’t see his 28th birthday.
the thought was a permanent damper on your mood as you continued to shop for snacks and ingredients for dinner.
it didn’t go unnoticed by him, even as the day dragged on and the two of you were in his home cooking up dinner. it was obvious you were distracted, bumbling about in his kitchen.
“your food’s burning.” he’d murmur as he took the spatula from your hand
“hey..! how can i show off my awesome cooking skills if you don’t let me cook..!” you couldn’t help but huff
“if we keep this up we’d be wasting our last moments cleaning up the kitchen.” he tried to poke fun at the situation but winced when he noticed how you just deflated even more
“i recently bought some new games if you’d like to see..?”
you perked up slightly at the mention of a distraction, giving him a weak smile.
“i’ll give them a look.”
as soon as you left the kitchen and made yourself comfortable on the soft plush of the carpet to look through his video game collection, you couldn’t help but regret leaving his side. perhaps with the impending feeling of doom you couldn’t help but feel clingy.
you looked through the games, some seeming familiar and others not so much. you’d hope looking through the collection would ease your mind or at the very least distract you but you found yourself missing him even more.
what if the meteor hit right this moment and you two were apart—
“you don’t recognize that game because the last time you played you fell asleep.”
his words snapped you from your thoughts as he emerged from the kitchen, carrying two plates. he set the steaming food onto the tabletop as he got comfortable on the couch.
“girl who saves the world is a new one, we can play that one after we eat.” he motioned for you to sit next to him
so that’s what you did, enjoying your (potentially last) meal in his company at peace save for a bit of small talk here and there before the two of you decided to pick up the new game. but even he could tell your typically competitive demeanor was dampened, if anything as time went on— you were more focused on the clock rather than the screen.
each tick of the clock was deafening to you as the uneasy feeling continued to pool in your stomach.
“you’re not exactly any good at this game, not to mention your lack of concentration.” his words pulled your head back up for air
caught off guard you couldn’t help but splutter out in protest, wanting to call him all sorts of ridiculous but you just… couldn’t.
“i have no idea what you’re talking about.” you simply state
“so we’re lying as well?”
you couldn’t help but huff in defeat as you set your controller aside.
“and you’re giving up?”
you scrunch up your face at his words before taking his controller away as well.
“as if you were any better than me— i’m giving up for your sake..! you should just do the same!” you scoff before tossing the two controllers away
zayne could sense your agitation, or rather the anxious feeling that was gnawing at your stomach.
“i’d appreciate it if we avoided breaking my things—”
“how are you so calm?!” you cut him off, finally breaking the tension that was clearly in the air
you felt like your world was in shambles yet he didn’t bat an eye, you didn’t know if you were angry or jealous of his calm demeanor.
“whatever do you mean?”
“don’t be coy with me..!” you poked at his face
“the world’s literally gonna end in like what..? four? five minutes..? and you’re just… okay with it?” his lack of fear was mind boggling to you
he couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as his hand enveloped your wrist to prevent any more poking.
“ah, so that’s what’s been bothering you?” he shook his head in amusement
“it’s not funny..! it’s like you’re not nervous in the slightest!” you protest like it wasn’t fair
“what’s there to be nervous about?” he couldn’t kick the hint of amusement in his tone
“we’ve had our dinner which was plenty filling, speaking of— we should probably clean up…”
his nonchalance was pushing you to your breaking point.
“so what? you’re just okay with this? we could literally die and you’re just worried about cleaning up? do you even care?” you couldn’t hide the frustration and snark in your tone before shrinking back, you didn’t even know why this was effecting you so much and why you were taking it out on him of all people. for all you know, it most likely wasn’t real.
but what if it was?
zayne’s expression couldn’t help but soften as he pulled you closer into his arms.
“so it’s like that hm?”
your throat tightens as you bury your head against his chest.
“it’s stupid… it’s probably not even real… but i’m scared zayne.” you grumble
he runs a hand through your hair in a soothing manner.
“okay, how about this…”
he pulled away slightly to reveal two pieces of the chocolate cake he snuck in the shopping cart earlier, you couldn’t help but tilt your head at him in confusion.
“we can make a wish.”
you immediately think of the birthday he won’t make it to.
“you make a wish… it’s your birthday that’s almost soon anyways.” you grumble burying your head back into his chest
“ah, so that is true.”
he began to ponder quietly.
“i don’t think i have any specific wishes, if anything… i’d say they all came true if i’m being honest.” he hums softly
you couldn’t help but look up at him, your nose scrunched in confusion.
“all we did was shop for groceries and cook… we didn’t even play video games all that much and i got on you for having sweets when you’re not supposed to.” you frown
“what? is that not exciting enough for you?” he couldn’t help but chuckle
“it’s not exciting for anyone! it’s just normal stuff..” you sulk a bit
his hand that was typically cold held a unusual warmth as he placed it on your cheek, guiding your eyes to his.
“sometimes the most mundane things become ever the more precious.” he chuckles softly
“frankly, if a meteor really did hit the earth today… i’d be the happiest man alive because i got to spend it with you.”
you couldn’t help but bury your head into his chest once more.
“don’t say stuff like that, you’re gonna make me cry..!” you huff out
he let out an airy laugh.
“well, we can’t have that— not when there’s just a mere few seconds before doomsday.”
your eyes widened as you immediately take his wrist into your hands to look at his watch, the seconds counting down.
you couldn’t help but panic as you frantically figure out what to do, but big warm hands keep your face in place.
“perhaps maybe there’s one more agent of normalcy we could have before our final moments.” he murmurs softly as he rests his forehead against yours
“i’m afraid.” you mumble out, you wanted to close your eyes but the warmth from his calmed you ever so slightly
“i’ve got you.” the weight of his words hushed the storm in your head before he pulled you close, his lips finding yours
the kiss was a light, fleeting moment— yet it felt like it lasted a million lifetimes.
then he pulled you tight to his chest.
——————————————
it had been almost two hours since the time the alleged meteor was supposed to hit.
zayne stayed awake as he continued to stroke the back of your head as you now laid on top of him against his chest. he didn’t have the heart to pull you from him after the first few minutes and even now, only feeling your grip loosen when he realized you had fallen asleep.
perhaps the stress of it all really did exhaust you.
he couldn’t help but let out a quiet humorous chuckle before pressing a kiss to the crown of your head. you were warm, you were alive. he was alive.
and he’d love you every time like it was the last time.
