How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr? A fast and loose estimate is fine!

I’ve had a tumblr for like… six months now? It’s been a writeblr for four or five of those

What led you to create it?

I don’t remember why I made the account originally. I made it into a writeblr because I wanted someplace to ramble about my first original WIP in like five years

What’s your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?

Y’all are so friendly and supportive! I love how nice people are and every comment I get :)

What’s one thing you’d like your mutuals to know about you?

I jump around between projects more than I’d like. I swear I am still working on Seven Stations, I’m just also doing a bit of other stuff and being hella busy, which is why I haven’t made much progress on it. I haven’t forgotten it, I swear!

Is there anything you’d like to see more of on your dash?

Can’t think of much, I’m pretty happy. I do love polls though. Something about clicking buttons makes the brain go brrrrrr

WIPs

Which Works-in-Progress (WIPs) or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?

Always Seven Stations and Pirates’ Roost. They never leave me. I do also have another fanfic short I’m working on because it possessed my brain, but that’s a very short-term project

How long have you been working on them?

Seven Stations (the original idea) is about five months old now. Pirates’ Roost has existed in one form or another for about four years, and has existed in its current form for about two. My random short is a week old lol

Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?

Seven Stations was inspired by the concept of “lesbian noblewoman and her bodyguard who hates her enemies to lovers in space fantasy.” Pirates’ Roost was inspired by my obsession with Magic: the Gathering and started taking shape in its current form when my gf introduced me to her OC Merry and decided to move him to Ixalan. My short is inspired by the fact that I can’t stop thinking about Star Wars: the Clone Wars

How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?

Uh. A lot. My WIPs are my special interest, so probably at least several hours a day

When someone asks the dreaded, “What do you write about,” question, what do you usually say?

“Fantasy and sci-fi.” Sometimes if we’re in a longer conversation I’ll give them a little Seven Stations blurb, although it rarely goes longer than “space fantasy political drama on a set of space stations”

Characters

Name any characters you created.  Side characters, protagonists, antagonists, characters who’ve never been written, the first original abomination you ever pulled from your ass; whomever you’d like!

Oh boy, okay. This is interesting because my gf created or had such a strong creative influence on so many of the characters I write about that I can’t lay claim to a lot of them. But here’s some that I at least came up with the initial baseline for, although she’s probably had her influence on most of them too (I can’t exactly remember for sure but I’m pretty sure on these ones):

For Seven Stations, it’s Cassie. In general, Viv and Astrilla are probably vying for the top slot. I haven’t introduced y’all to them but they’re both CRACKED

Who comes the most naturally for you to write?

Once again it’s Cassie. And Stellaris, he’s very relatable

Do you ever cringe at them?

All the damn time

How much control do you feel you have over your characters?  AKA, do they ever “write themselves,” refuse to cooperate, or do things you didn’t expect? To what degree? Are some less cooperative than others?

They refuse to cooperate on a semi-regular basis. I can usually tell when I’m fighting to justify the action I want them to do. That means it’s time for a change-up

Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters? And do you have a preferred means of receiving said questions? For example, as Asks, as replies, as reblogs, as tag notes, as comments on AO3, etc.

Literally anytime for any reason. I love it. Asks and reblog dare my favourite, but I’m not picky :)

Interaction

What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account? Do you follow ‘em as you see ‘em, or take time scoping out the blog to make sure you align with its content? Do you follow based on WIPs, or vibes?

I follow writeblrs if I like the look of their stuff enough that I want it on my dash

What makes you decide against following?

Anything that makes me uncomfortable (ranging anywhere from weird takes to content I just don’t like). Or if I’m just not vibing with their stuff. But sometimes I miss cool blogs too because I don’t have time to check out everything

Do you interact with non-mutuals often?

Not super often because I don’t often see their stuff but I’m not opposed to it. Feel free to come chat with me even if you’re not my mutual :)

Do your mutuals’ characters occupy space in your noodle?

Oh yeah. Both the people who tagged me in this have characters I think about. But also @illarian-rambling has phenomenal OCs - Sepo lives in my brain on the little shelf of my favourite traumatized fictional little guys

If you make an another account will you be posting it? You know so I can immediately follow and all 😁. And same I’ve always been a loner too. There have been a few exceptions though. But the past year taught me a lot about friendships so I’m just working on myself this year. It’s kind of lonely but at the same time really peaceful? I think I’m happier now than I’ve been in a long time. Yeah the lack of friends and companions makes things lonely but it’s not something that I’ll let break me anymore. I know I’m stronger than that now. Someone’s I think online people are easier to interact with because there’s no attachments?? Like if they left me I can assume something happened or they decided to go offline but I know for sure (mostly) it’s not my fault you know? And people online are just so much kinder in general. Not that I interact a bunch of people online, just a few, but that’s just my experience so far. Didn’t mean to go off on a rant there my bad 😅.

I’ve posted a few things on my blog but only drabbles really. I’ve been wanting to start doing analysis’s for a long time but I never got around to it. Just like character analysis’s and relationship analysis’s and story arcs and all that jazz. I love all of it. And in my opinion the best stories are the ones where the characters are what drive the plot of the story. TR did an amazing job of doing this and it’s one of the reasons I fell in love with the story in the first place almost immediately.

Comfort fics are my favorite and the ones that explore real experiences and feelings and aren’t just a colt bf paste of the same words really do it for me.

I WILL (eventually) soon but after the first season ends.

As for me, I’m currently in the library waiting for my next class to start. I took a tumblr break after eating lunch. My professor just made a big essay optional and extra credit because he wants us to review for our last unit test and midterm throughly. SO LIKE HECK YEAH!!! But also I already have an outline for it so I’m debating if the 10 point extra credit on our midterm is worth the extra work or not.

Yeah, it gets lonely here- but at least it’s peaceful; I follow a few blogs - mostly art + JJBA updates (and I’m super excited to check out the new eps of stone ocean) interaction wise... i have tried it out before, but none of them lasted long. what hurt me the most was when i was trying to be genuine abt something and writers here (not all but some) are really closed off yk? like they're fine interacting with friends but are really selective with new people? cause of that i just gave up interacting with them altogether and after my ideas got taken and neither was anything being reciprocated back on my blog by them despite us following each other- cause it goes both ways and if its just me, i wont do it anymore. my experience online hasn't been that great except with the upload of fics... and the only interaction i would get was comments or going through tags that was included by the person who reblogged it- but with recent developments, a lot of that has changed and i'm comfortable talking to people now ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

Oh yea definitely. Safety is super important to me - that's why i never reveal too much about myself just small things cause you can't be completely safe on the internet- like when i was still a small time writer i got followed by a spanking account (istg the way my eyes widened when i saw it; and it wasn't even the kinky variety- it was traditional method of disciplining someone) - won't go much into detail about it but yeah i ended up blocking him. Unfortunately, I don't use tiktok. Hello! My name is Marr! I use He/She/Ze/They pronouns. I’m Omni, Bigender, and AroAcespec. I’m cool with any gendered terms, and I pretty much use them interchangeably myself. Gal, guy, neither, whatever!

I have ADHD and anxiety along with other things, but those are the ones I’ll probably talk about on here the most. I’m mixed White and Latina (plus Native) but mostly white (in that it’s a little more of my genetics than the others and I’m painfully whitewashed). I speak English and want to learn Spanish, but I’m definitely not fluent. American, and a lot more “country” than I realize lol (I’m a midwestern gal)… I do study a few other languages, but mostly in a linguistic sense.

Right now im really into Total Drama. It’s one of my longest lasting hyperfixations so far! I also post about a few other things, like Dungeon Meshi and Lost 2004.

Specifically in Total Drama I mostly post about Priyemma or Alenoah. I talk the most about World Tour and TDI 2023 because those are the ones I remember the best. I plan to rewatch them all… someday. I haven’t even finished watching reboot s2 because it’s painful!

I love shipping! I can’t even list them all because there’s so many tbh. I am very much a multi shipper and I constantly am finding new things to ship! I try to not engage in ship hate ever, but sometimes I slip up lol. Everything that could be considered ship hate is tagged as such and never tagged with the ship that is being slandered.

The Monday Menu

Week 2 of August, next week I start back to work... teacher workdays, but still... 

So, what news...? I FINALLY did it.  I cut myself free from a certain horrible fic website. Deleted ALL my fics, and I’m just waiting for them to tell me how to close the account, and it will all be gone. (There’s no button to do that.) Fear not, however, I am moving everything to AO3. Some of the great exodus has begun already, I’m working through a Stargate Atlantis fic, and a UC: Undercover fic right now, and the others will come in time.

I wrote a little bit last week about how I feel guilty when I indulge myself an allow myself to write. I know I shouldn’t.  It’s a HUGE part of my self-care routine, but I still do. So if anyone catches me doing that guilt thing - please call me out.

Still waiting on those Behind the Scenes requests? Also, nothing happened on Thursday or Saturday last week because I didn’t get any prompts for TTT or Saturday Secret. Sad really. Is the fandom sleeping?

Here’s the plan for this week (and an explanation of each thing for those that are new to my Tumblr), though I might be making some changes.

Thursday - Three Things Thursday - any fic of mine is fair game. Doesn’t have to be Rumbelle, I have Rushbelle, a bunch of crossovers, some shows people might no know, some ST: DSC, some SGA and some Tolkien too… ask three things, I dare ya…! Please… This is also the day I’ll do the ‘Behind the Scenes’ post, which might just end up as part of the TTT post.

Friday - Final Line Friday. - Assuming I manage to write anything, I will post a word cloud, and the last line that I have written right before I post this.

Saturday - Saturday Secret - another one of those where you can ask about any fic, and I’ll tell (or show) you a secret. Writing this week - Disparate Pathways is at the head of the list, followed by Not Yours to Keep, and then maybe if there’s time, What the Actual Fuck! I’m also being poked at about a fic that has the working Title “Only Remembered for What We Have Done.”  I think that title is likely to change, but probably not by much.  You might get to see chapter 1 of that fic sooner than I had anticipated.

As always my inbox is open for thoughts, questions, asks… I don’t restrict people to any particular day of the week, and I - like most fic authors - love to discuss things to do with fics and fandom.

Seven at the moment! Gearing up to start posting a longer multichap I've been working on soon, though. ;)

Four or five, depending on whether you count ATLA/LoK as one fandom or two. My old account had PJO and Harry Potter, and Supergirl most recently.

4. Top 5 fics by kudos?

I mean, that's most of them, since there are only seven rn but:

lucky i'm in love with my best friend - supercorp, kara goes on a date with william and then interrupts it by realizing she's actually in love with Lena.

and rain will make the flowers grow - supercorp, a 'what if lena only found out kara was supergirl as kara was dying' (it's sad)

rhymes with monopoly - supercorp, same as this tumblr prompt idk i wanted to try cross-posting one of my tumblr fics. Not sure I'll do it again, tbh.

I do! Usually not all of them, though, depends on the mood i'm in I suppose. And what the comment says. I read them all multiple times though!

6. A fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending

I'd say the wrong side of a second, which is just essentially just: what if Lena didn't manage to turn off Lex's mount norquay kryptonite canons on time in 5x8 and they hit Kara. The fic is the conversation where Lena has to tell Alex. It's one of two fics I've written where Kara dies, though I'd say the angstier of the two because they don't get time for love confessions and last kisses in that one. You may ask, helena, why do you have two oneshots in which Kara dies? Is this the name you're trying to make for yourself? I'm not sure, honestly. I'll just say i was enabled on discord for the second one. And that angst is kind of thrilling to write. And Kara is (masochistically, perhaps) a great character to kill.

(I tend to reserve tragic endings to oneshots I can knock out in an evening, though. If I'm investing major time into something, I want that happily ever after, please and thank you.)

7. Do you write crossovers?

I haven't, no, though that's not to say I never would.

8. Ever received hate on a fic?

I mean, not seriously. I've received the occasional negative/nasty comment but nothing I couldn't delete or disregard.

9. Do you write smut?

I have it was very scary. I'll probably do it again tho.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of?? I hope not. I think someone asked me if they could post a fic of mine to Wattpad once. I said no.

Once back on ff.net! A lovely person translated a oneshot i'd written into french. It was very cool.

Not really, no. Though I had a friend that added so much in her beta-reading that it may as well have been cowriting.

mm well I started a (modern) Pride and Prejudice Supercorp AU but I got stuck trying to keep both Kara and Lena in character and the general plot structure of P&P. Maybe I'll go back to it if I ever figure out a way around that. Otherwise, i try to only post things I know I can finish.

15. Writing strengths?

Uhhhhhh gee idk. I like writing descriptions. Also dialogue.

16. Writing weaknesses?

Overuse of ellipses and M-dashes, perhaps? Repetition of certain adjectives and adverbs? Mostly lots of small things.

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

Not sure I'd trust myself to do it accurately, tbh. Maybe with a beta who spoke the language?

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

26 total (although I think I have 2 or 3 that I either orphaned or deleted, can’t remember) on uhmeduh.

Oh, and 2 on another account I made specifically for my bad 10 year old me’s fanfics. No, you don’t get that one.

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

126 862. Which is, frankly, more than I thought. I think it’s grown quite a bit in 2021, to be fair.

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

7, according to AO3. One is an original work, so I guess 6? Except Far Cry 4 and 5 are considered different by AO3, as are Persona 2 and 5. I personally consider it like 4 or 5 fandoms.

Silence is a Virtue and IWAJWAV are both multi chapter fics at 23.6k and 19.2k, respectively. sybe (syn), moacm, and undercurrent are all part of the same series of short fics and range from 4.4k (unfinished) to 7k. Lost. is a theoretical first chapter of a multi chapter fic. 4/6 fics are ATLA, 1 is Far Cry, 1 is PJO.

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yeah! I used to not because I’m incredibly awkward about it, but when I started commenting on fics myself and realized how nice it is when the author replies, I started doing it myself. I really enjoy recognizing regular commenters. I just need to stop talking so much about worldbuilding and hinting at stuff in my replies, I think ^^’.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hm. Probably either what is a legacy to a dead man (it is worth far more to those still living) or Shattered Porcelain. The former is most likely more angsty to readers, but the latter holds a special place in my mind because I know my OCs intimately well.

7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Most of them, to be honest. I am, at my core, a fluff writer, even if I also enjoy throwing in sprinkles of angst every so often. The entire the dragon king series is going to end pretty happy if it goes according to plan. If I had to pick a finished fic then probably Apricot Blossoms— it’s just sweet kids in love, you barely notice the darkness on the horizon.

8) Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

Kinda? Sorta? Not really? Two of my published fics are crossovers but they’re like, crossovers within the same extended fandom.

Oh, wait, that one fic I wrote and published when I was 11 was a weird Harry Potter and mild Avengers crossover. So yeah, I guess.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not really, no. I occupy a pretty niche area in all the fandoms I write in, so you kind of have to search out the content I make. I’m also not popular at all in the grand scheme of things, which I’m mildly thankful for. I have some popular fic writers as friends and I see some of their commenters sometimes.

10) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I guess? It’s not something I make a habit of, I just in general am not that horny, but I have one published smutfic on AO3 and a ficlet on Tumblr that, if it isn’t really classified as smutc definitely is close. The smut I write is pretty soft and loving and is exclusively LuZhao so far.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope. If someone wants to I’m all for it, and theoretically I could translate my own fics into two other languages, but if there isn’t a demand there wouldn’t be much purpose other than me practicing. Who knows though, maybe one of my fics on my account will show up translated into French or Norwegian by me. Or maybe Russian, but that would be an effort. My Russian... isn’t great.

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Currently (kinda, fixing my laptop has made it take a hot second) co-writing an OC centric fic with @theboyfrommakapu. I also betaread two of @izzymrdb’s fics, and she called me their coauthor in a comment once so... I guess that counts? I also had plans to make a massive crossover with my own fic and two of my friends but then I fell out of PJO and into ATLA pretty hard.

14) What’s your all-time favorite ship?

LuZhao, definitely. I’ve just created enough stuff around it to make it my favourite. I’m also quite fond of Jastavian in the realm of PJO.

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I fully intend to finish my two main multichapter fics eventually, but I doubt I’ll ever finish Butterfly Kisses. Especially to the extent I have it in my mind.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Uh... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe worldbuilding within an established world? I actually prefer AUs to canon compliance, but when I want something to be canon compliant then I will make sure that it is as fully canon compliant as possible (or, to the extent that canon doesn’t contradict itself). For example, at the moment all of my OCs are completely canon compliant. If I somehow were asked to publish them, they would not contradict any existing work. I put a lot of work into my OCs and worldbuilding and it definitely shows.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

If you asked my girlfriend? My paragraphs are too long and I don’t know how to use commas. She’s right about that, of course.

If you asked me? I’d probably say something a little more vague. I’m bad at the whole “communicating just enough” aspect of writing (and of life). I tend to get absorbed by my worldbuilding and want to tell everyone every little detail, which makes no sense because you don’t need to know it for the fic’s promises.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

So long as a translation is provided, I see no issue if it’s accurate. One of my first fandoms was Hetalia so... yeah.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I’m not sure if it was Harry Potter, Sherlock, or Hetalia. But it was definitely one of those three and I was about 10 when I wrote it.

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Surprisingly I haven’t mentioned it so far, but solntse moye / luna moya. Azulon and Ilah have a relationship I really like, and they both have such distinct inner voices.

How many works do you have on AO3?

What’s your total AO3 word count?

235,661—but keep in mind that those words have been written over the course of seven years, so I’m really not all that prolific. I write slowly.

How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Just 2 (Harry Potter and Rent.) I used to write for a few more fandoms, all in musical theatre, but that was before Ao3 existed, and those works are very immature. I started writing fan fiction in middle school, so I’m not exactly itching to post that stuff on my current account.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

The Seam Between, Snow Globe, In Search of Mythical Kings, March Hare and All Your Seasick Sailors.

What’s interesting is that with the exception of ISOMK, all of those are stories I began writing no earlier than May of 2020. It may be that the pandemic allowed me more time to practice writing and build my audience, or simply that I’ve improved as a writer in that period. I’m inclined to believe that my audience has grown mainly because I’ve been more active in the writing community since the pandemic started and so people are more likely to check out my work. Honestly, I believe my work started growing in popularity mainly because @floreatcastellumposts liked The Seam Between and mentioned it on her Tumblr, and that had more of an effect that any change in the quality of my work. 

I still dearly love my completely neglected fic The Atoners.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

It depends. I used to never respond to comments because I felt that any engagement with readers outside of the writing would kind of disrupt the world of the story and remove them from the text. For that reason, I also didn’t post author’s notes. I was very strict with myself.

I no longer believe that, and I now see that great friendships and connections are forged in the comments section. There are a few comments I won’t respond to—mainly, people that ask a question about the resolution of the plot when I’m posting a middle chapter. Obviously, I’m not going to give away the ending just because you asked for it! I also don’t tend to respond to comments on FFnet, though they’re rarely valuable comments anyways.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I don’t know, all of them? I will say that the story that most moved me while I was writing the ending would be The Seam Between. I really had tears in my eyes during the last 2 paragraphs.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Hmmm...not sure. Maybe it would be A Network of Spittle, one of my earliest-ever Harry Potter fics, about the night that Harry was born and how the message of his birth travelled through the secret networks of the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters. That piece was written back when I was more interested in the children’s lit aspect of the series, and trying more seriously to imitate JKR’s tone and style, rather than developing my own.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven’t, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of potentially doing it if I found two fandoms with just the right kind of synchronicity.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes and no. I have received comments that were rude or worded in a way that didn’t show respect, but I don’t think the people who wrote those comments necessarily intended to be hateful. For example, I received some pretty out-there comments on The Atoners from an intense Snape fan who would lash out as if addressing James Potter or Dumbledore (rather than me.) I also received some pretty rude comments on March Hare, but they turned out to be from a minor on the autism spectrum who has difficulties with communication. I don’t think she understood how her behaviour came across, and I almost immediately recognized that she might be on the spectrum (I have special ed training.)

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I have never written smut, but I have written sex scenes when I felt they were necessary to the plot. They were pretty abstract and lacking in explicit detail, though. I’m not saying I would never write smut, but I haven’t yet and if I did, I probably wouldn’t share it online. 

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, but it would be the highest compliment.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I would love to, so if anyone’s willing...

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I haven’t—but it’s something I would consider, if I really liked the other person’s style.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

Okay, here me out: I love the relationship between adolescence and trauma. I love pairing the interior growth you experience as you transition from childhood to adulthood with some kind of exterior drama that reshapes your psychic landscape just as your body as undergoing so much change. That’s my favourite ship.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

It really hurts to admit this, but I think I’ll sporadically update but never actually complete In Search of Mythical Kings.

What are your writing strengths?

Oh, god. This question. It feels impolite to even answer. I suppose I do a lot of research to get my settings right, and to make my stories feel authentic to a time and place. I’ve put lots of work into learning the British dialect too.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I have a generally narrow range of interests with regard to themes and emotional valence. I could write the same story over and over, with minor variations, because I get emotionally fixated on one topic. I also struggle with transitioning from one scene to another, and indicating the passage of time in a way that feels authentic and organic. Oh, and I also write Really. Damn. Slowly.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I wouldn’t attempt it unless I had a person who fluently spoke the appropriate dialect to help me. But you also have to consider your audience—are you writing loads of dialect that your readers won’t understand?

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter, but that was back when I was 11ish and none of the documents were ever posted online, nor did they survive various computer crashes.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I’m not sure. They’re each so intricately connected to some personal emotional phenomenon I was going through at the time. It’s also affected me to see how popular or unpopular some fics have become. I really didn’t think The Seam Between would get much of an audience, and then it sort of broke away and became my most popular story. I really appreciated the audience engagement I got on that one. Like I said before, I’m still quite attached to the work I did on The Atoners, which is sort of a missed-connection story about teenage Snape meeting middle-aged Lyall Lupin on the night of the Prank.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to. I think I've only ever not responded to a couple comments, and that's because they either 1) came from a non-registered user, so I knew they wouldn't see my response, or 2) it was just a "Kudos" comment or something along those lines that I appreciated but maybe didn't have the time or drive to respond to. But all comments are appreciated, and I do respond to the majority of them. I like engaging with my readers and letting them know I appreciate them sharing their thoughts about my work.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I mean I straight-up kill Stan in Their End, so that'd probably be up there for that reason. But I still think Tell Him had a certain level of foreboding to it that made it pretty angsty (and as popular as it apparently was).

Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever written?

I don't write crossovers, haven't really found a plot for one that's excited me yet.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I... don't think so... Not that I can think of right off the bat.

I have not, but I am... not as opposed to it as I used to be. I still don't think I ever will, but I blame my current affinity for pretty helmeted Star Wars men for the fact that I'm not vehemently opposed anymore. But again, not sure I ever would, but will clarify that if I ever wrote it, it would not be posted through this blog/account because this blog is non-explicit, I would make a side account for it.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yeah! DaraDjinn (don't know why Tumblr isn't letting me tag her) translated a couple of my GF fics to French a while back! Catharsis, Scars, and I Dreamt of Fire! Was super psyched when she asked me if she could do it!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not.

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I'm not very big on ships at the moment (aside from reader insert stuff, obviously, haha), but way back in the day, I really liked FrostIron (Loki x Tony Stark). It was one hell of a dynamic and really popular. Stucky (Steve Rogers x Bucky Barnes) was a close second.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I'm not gonna say A Matter of Time, I'm not gonna say it and put those words out into the ether because I want to finish it I'm just trapped in Star Wars hell right now, but I'm also well aware of what happens when I latch onto a new hyperfixation, I can't maintain two of them, and I hate that because I really wanna finish AMoT and I know there are a lot of you out there that want me to finish it tooooooooo.

What are your writing strengths?

The two things people compliment me on all the time are the flow of my writing and my characterization. I personally love my writing flow, so I'm super glad when other people seem to like it too. When it comes to writing in-character, it's always a big fear of mine, but then I get comments of people gushing over how in-character things are, so that's reassuring and validating af.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I have one hell of a time with anything action-y (which is why... I don't write it a lot, haha). Fast-paced motion is really hard for me to nail down, especially when I like to hammer down details, so the necessity to get through things fast while still maintaining a clear picture of what's happening??? Difficult af.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it completely depends on the situation, both in the fic and in real life. With respect to the fic, if you're writing dialogue in another language, it better be 100% in-character and not awkward. Like, too often you see people dropping in other languages either to use as petnames or to have a "oh oops sorry I accidentally switched languages" which gets... very near that unrealistic trope and can sometimes even come across as fetishizing??? So, like, it better be in-character and within reason. Bear in mind that if you're writing in another language, you better have a translation readily accessible, probably in notes (which, is still annoying because either you have to scroll down to see what they said, or you have to just keep reading not knowing... which, if you're not supposed to know, then alright I guess, but if it's a full conversation that you're supposed to be in-the-know on, it's annoying). With respect to your real-life situation, if it's a language you are personally not fluent in, you better be finding someone who is to run things by them. You can really ostracize your readers and take them out of your story if they speak the language and you say something taboo or blatantly incorrect because you just used Google translate. So, have someone who knows the language double-check your stuff, make sure it all reads correctly. TL;DR: Be tasteful and smart if you really feel the need to do it. Remember you're putting more work on the readers, so it better be worth it. And make sure you have someone check your work if you're not fluent in the language.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Pokemon, back in like 3rd or 4th grade.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

I'm still proud of Catharsis, it was my first real delve into very introspective writing and flow, and it's a way of writing that I really enjoy slipping into every once in a while now. Also a lot of really nice descriptions and metaphors and motifs that I'm still very happy with to this day. More recently, I'm proud of Tactility, more for what it did for me rather than the fic itself. Well, I mean, I'm proud of the fic, it was my first delve into the Mando fandom and it got a lot of positive reception, it was exactly what I wanted it to be and came out exactly how I wanted it, especially in the short timeframe that I wrote it. But I'm just... very happy that I did it because writing reader inserts always felt very taboo for me. I've actually written a few before, all of them PG and very tame for different fandoms, but I've always just been... too nervous to post them? And this was the first one I actually felt comfortable posting and wanted to put out there, and it sort-of let me feel more comfortable with it and encouraged me to keep doing it, which I'm happy about because writing reader insert fics is so fun and I'm glad I feel comfortable enough to enjoy it openly now.

December Website Announcment!

~lookit me being an Official Author~

I spent a few hours this afternoon getting my life together and making a schedule for the posts on my website, not for this week, not for this month but all the way through August 2021. 

If you've been following the blog for a while, you'll know that I've recently finished uploading all of the relevant links and introductions for my main WIP, Storge, which you can find here. I'm also working on the sequel series in the rest of the Laoche Chronicles, but for now, a lot of that is brainstorming and I don't want to post it until I've outlined some more so that way I can avoid redactions down the line. So I’ve got a new plan! You all seemed to like my other informational posts about the writing process, like this interview with @maxgraybooks about starting an author's platform and this one about staying creative when life gets busy, so I thought it would make sense to continue that trend. 

I’m keeping to my once a week on Fridays update schedule, with the first week being the usual monthly goals recap. The rest of the month will have a theme and pattern:

The 2nd week of the month is going to be a post about my writing process, not really as a “how to” post but rather just sharing another way of developing a different aspect of the story like worldbuilding or characterization. 

The 3rd week will be a resource reccomendation! These will be links of books and other media that I think really exemplify the theme of the month and a brief analysis of each on how to learn from them, as well as a chance for you to give me your reccomendations. I’ll feature those in the following week’s post. 

The 4th week of the month will be some of my writing that keeps with the theme of the month - probably either a Storge excerpt or introduction to the main trilogy of The Laoche Chronicles. I’m excited for this, because it’ll force me to do drills and learn certain skills I need more practice on, in addition to helping me make progress on my stories.

Months with 5 Fridays will get special bonus content revolving around the community - hopefully either interviews/collabs with other writers, shoutouts, or something else fun that you pick! I’ll have polls up here and on my IG account (@ettagraceauthor) for that. If you’re interested in being featured, DM me so that we can set something up!

1. Is there a meaning behind your url name? 

I wanted something that was Ride or Die inspired. ‘’Troublemaker’’--Logan’s nickname for the MC, and ‘’In Space’’ is a direct reference to his infamous, yet heartbreaking quote ‘’I was just a rock in space lucky enough to burn up in your atmosphere for a moment’’ 

2. When did you start playing Choices? What's the first book you played? 

Actually, I started playing choices just this time last year. So it’s been about a year! High School Story was my first book! 

3. When did you decide to join Choices fandom? 

Even though I have been playing choices for about a year now, I didn’t join the actual fandom until late January when I made my tumblr account. (after playing Ride or Die for the first time and needed closure)

4. Go back to your archive and tell us what was your first post on your Choices blog was about. 

Ahh! So the first post I ever made on this blog was actually a reblog of my good friend @client-327​ and her lovely fic Forget His Name. She’s great, I recommend reading everything that she writes!

5. How long have you been writing fanfiction? 

I have actually been writing fanfiction for about 10 years now, technically. I started writing (but never posted) final destination fanfiction when I was around 13, and I got creative with it! (crossing it with other horror movies i.e. childs play, Friday the 13th, the grudge etc.) 

6. Share the first fanfic you wrote with us. Do you still like it or would you change anything about it? 

My first ever fanfic I have written for this fandom, is actually the first ever fanfic that I have posted publicly--ever. It’s called Unrequited and it’s set in a slight-alternate universe/timeline where MC falls for Toby instead of any of the other love interests in the book. Of course the feelings are unreturned, and MC turns to Ximena to provide comfort for her hurt. Ultimately it's a Ximena/MC ‘’friendship’’ hurt/comfort one-shot. 

I actually still like this one! It's my first ever published fanfic in general, so it does hold a very valuable place in my heart. If I were to change one thing about it though, I would probably rephrase a few repetitive adjectives/adverbs that I used in either the same sentence, or paragraph. 

7. What are your favorite Choices books to write about?

Ride or Die. That's it, that’s all I write for--at least for now.  I’m trying to open my heart a little bit to writing for other books, but so far none of them have captivated me enough to write for like Ride or Die did, but I’ll keep looking!! (this does not include the Witness ending crack!fic I wrote about a week ago)

8. What is your specialty as a fanfic writer? 

I would personally say writing fluff! That’s become my go-to, especially during quarantine. 

9. Do you have any abandoned WIPs? What made you abandon them? 

Oh my goodness, do I! I have so many, they’re hard to keep count of! To be honest though, the majority of them I do want to continue--I just keep getting new ideas while in the middle of working on one, and so I switch and sometimes some get left behind more than others ; if that makes sense. 

10. Do you participate in any writing events or challenges throughout the year? If so, what do you like about them? 

Sometimes! I haven’t in a while, I’ll admit. But what I love about them is the fact that they usually always provide one-word prompts that are so fun to challenge myself with. Like you can create literally just about anything with one word. It’s great. I love it! (Also I am participating in RODAW coming up, of course!) 

11. Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing?

Absolutely! One of my favorite published authors is Jill Santopolo. I love her rawness in expressing emotion from her characters. She’s one of the few authors who has actually made me cry (I also met her at a book signing in New York and she is beyond lovely.) and I hope I can evoke even half of the emotion she does when I write. I also like the style of E. Lockhart and Nina Lacour. 

In the fandom, definitely @lovehugsandcandy​, @domesticatedantelope​, @client-327​, and @omgjasminesimone​ have definitely inspired me! Just to name a few. (there are of course many others, too!)

12. Do you tell the people in your life that you write fics? 

I so totally do! Most of them don’t care either because they, too, also write fanfiction, or they’re just very supportive! I work in a bookstore in my real life, so the ones who know about it are in the same environment that would encourage it, due to the ever growing number of fanfic-turned-published authors.  

13. What’s the most personal fanfic you’ve written? 

Oh dear. Well there is one that I wrote back in march that I am utterly terrified of posting on here. It’s extremely personal and putting it out would feel like leaving myself vulnerable. BUT, there is one I actually did post and it received a pretty positive response. It’s called Thundering Lullabies.

14. If you could recommend one fic of yours to a new reader who just found your blog, which one would you choose? Why? 

I would say my first ever fic, Unrequited. Just because it was my first introduction into this fandom universe, so I believe it will be a good start for a new reader, too. 

15. Do you write original stories? 

I actually do!  I’m taking a script writing class, and have been working on an actual book as well! I have plenty of excerpts/saved documents of short stories and original concepts! Whenever I publish my first book, I will definitely link it!

alright so long danni (ldn i will refer to her) & ee media along w/ tencent and sm made the survival show x-fire... the premise of xfire was that 16 contestants split into two different teams (white and red) and then at the end it would boil down to each team having 4 members and the winning team would debut as a group called xfire...but wait...the group’s name is xnine? so out of red team (peng chuyue, baishu, xiao zhan, xia zhiguang) and white team(wu jiacheng, gu jiacheng, zhao lei, and guo zifan) white team won...and they unofficially debuted as xfire..went abroad to train yadda yadda yadda and then a few months later, TELL ME WHY LONG DANNI DECIDES TO RELEASE POLLS TO LET FANS VOTE IN 5 MEMBERS INTO XFIRE TO CREATE XNINE! ldn PLEASE if u wanted to rig the show you should’ve decided in the beginning what was the point of making the teams and the fans fight against each other...

so yeah xz and crew weren’t actually supposed to debut according to show rules...i mean i’m glad they debuted obviously bc x9 is x9 but ee media and frickin ldn couldve handled this better...like every member except chen molerat is amazing and great but....WHY DIDNT MaNAGEMENT NOT BLATANTLY RIG THEM INTO THE GROUP

Snowed in, there was only one bed, slow burn. it’s delicious and I already have like 20k written.... once again I probably won’t post until it’s complete... though I’ve posted some snippets from it on tumblr before. There are three different A/B/O fics that will end up on the forbidden AO3 at some point lol I have like 6 other docs too lol, but they’re all named things like Rockstar/Artist and are mostly just a few bullet pointed ideas. AND this doesn’t even take into account the half finished chapters of Sword of the First Crusader, As You Wish and my FinnPoe fics... I am an ADHD mess and have trouble focusing on one project 😅😅

Prompts?: I’ve never been HUGE into prompts.... I have way too many of my own ideas taking up space in my brain. What I do tend to like prompts for is when I’ve hit a wall in something I’ll ask for prompts, or reblog a prompt list. So you know ya girl is struggling when you see those lol

So, as you've probably noticed, I've been really really struggling with some serious burnout this year, and the time has come to put the monster stories to one side, at least for now. I started to write them as a hobby and for fun, and it has become a bit of an anxiety-riddled worry for me this year.

Here's another rundown (hopefully the last one) of the plan, with some information and blurb about my novel at the end, if you're interested in that, as well as a dedicated Instagram which you can follow if you like.

As announced in this post and this update, I will continue pausing billing until the end of 2020 at least (i.e. existing patrons will not be charged). New patrons will be charged once upon joining, but not again. You'll have access to everything available on your tier on the masterlist until the end of the year.

The Longer Stories: Winter Solstice, Ashridge Pack, and A Door to the Past

I have three stories which are novel length in their scope which I had begun to share on Patreon, but have not finished. Those are Winter Solstice, A Door to the Past, and the Ashridge Pack, and I really want to finish these as well. They were all posted there as WIPs/first drafts, and will need a complete rework before Winter Solstice and Ashridge Pack are ready to epub (or otherwise). A Door to the Past is set in Skyrim, so I'm not sure I can publish that one legally and earn from it! Keep an eye on my AO3 account if you want to see where I might put that last one eventually.

In short, I cannot guarantee that I will continue to post these three works in progress on here now because my main focus now will be Weaver of Threads. If I do need a break from that though, I may continue to post updates on Patreon (for free during the paused billing), and if you're on the Discord, I'll share a link there if I publish them in the future, so that you can find them. If it's possible to create a discount for them, I'll make sure that that's on the Discord too.

I'm really sorry if that's disappointing to any of you, but I just don't have the energy or the spoons to work on what would technically be four novels at once... The CYOA will be finished on Patreon too, I promise. We've got maybe two more chapters to go.

Weaver of Threads (working title)

Kae is an apprentice mage studying at the ancient Black Citadel, in the former capital city of Varden. Quiet, bookish, shy, and talented, he keeps largely to himself and focuses on his studies in runic magic, but his real passion lies in uncovering the truth behind the mythical practice of 'weaving'. This long-lost form of magic is now merely a children's fairytale, but he believes there has to be some truth to it, and is determined to find out all he can. When a young squire with a secret, training to become a legendary Greycloak warrior at the Citadel, comes to him and asks him to help with his own research, the two young men find that they have something in common, despite their different nationalities and backgrounds. Over time, an intense friendship blossoms between Kae and Tomas, which begins to lead to something more, though that is not without its complications for Tomas. The two combine their research and uncover long-lost secrets about their countries, and the history of magic itself.

I am in two minds as to whether to continue this Patreon in 2021. I really don't want to feel obliged to keep creating content for paying subscribers while I'm also focusing on the novel, but for the time being, I may reduce the tiers yet again, to just $1 or something (about 70p at the moment I think), and share updates on the worldbuilding, any artwork I do, and keep people up to date with the progress, but I'm still reluctant to do that in case I'm not able to produce anything shareable...

The free alternative to that is for me to create another Tumblr page, specifically for Weaver of Threads, and post updates on there, and if you feel like donating financially, you can donate to my Ko-fi or something. Favourite story you’ve written so far: This is such a hard question! I would say Kiss with a fist is probably my all time favourite. It’s the first longer fic I did and I really enjoyed writing it! Bite the bullet (linked above) is also one I really enjoyed writing and it got a great reception. I’ve probably re-read where have all the young men gone (also linked above) the most and it was another long fic that I’m really proud of. I also really love Beneath the Hood - I need to write more Bruce/Clark. This got kind of long but to be honest I like almost all of my fics! I’m definitely a self-indulgent writer.

Fic you were nervous to post: I don’t normally get that nervous about posting fics but I guess with any fic I’m writing in response to a prompt (BTHB and DC kinkmeme usually) I do worry a little about whether the original prompter will like it. I was a little nervous about Take my whole life too because it was the first really explicit fic I did. I suppose I was nervous about Kiss with a fist because it was my first longer fic - I was a little worried it wouldn’t get any feedback and I’d be posting into the void haha.

How do you choose your titles: Uh not easily. I’ve only ever had an idea of what I want to call it early on with a couple of fics (Suffer the little children and where have all the young men gone stand out to me). Otherwise I just pick whatever’s on top of my head when I think about the vibe or content of the fic which is why some of my titles are so shitty.

Do you outline: Not really. I’m definitely more of a pantser than a plotter. I usually have a vague idea of what I want to do with a fic and roughly where each story beat will fall but I never have it fully planned out.

Complete: 32 on AO3 but a couple of them are likely to be continued. I have two fics completed for an event that I haven’t posted yet as well.

In progress: On AO3 only 2 of my fics are officially WIPs, although two or three of the completed ones might get continuations. Not on AO3? Probably about 10 although it could be more - my organisation is shocking.

Coming soon/not yet started: I actually do intend to finish my BTHB card at some point so I still have a bunch of them to do. I have about 3 kinkmas treats that I haven’t started yet that I’d definitely like to get done. I’m planning to do some fics for some other events too but I haven’t even started to think about those yet!

Prompts: As I said I still have a bunch of BTHB prompts in my inbox that I need to clear out! I’m open to prompts but I have a lot of fics that I need to get out of the way before I’d have a chance to do them. If my schedule ever clears up a little I’ll definitely make a post asking for some!

Upcoming work you’re most excited about: I’m really excited about some of the kinkmas fics I’m writing! This is the first exchange I’ve been a part of so I’m super excited to see everyone else’s hard work too! There are a couple of other fics that I’m excited to post too but they probably won’t see the light of day for a while.
