QuintSum has been finished. What now?
Yes, you read that right. I've finished the first draft of QuintSum. I'm done. I told you, I said I would be, and I finally am! So, what now?
Well, the short answer is that I'm going to release it all on Ao3, but there's a few things to discuss related to that process, because that won't be done in a day either.
How will you release the fic?
ALSO, IMPORTANT: If you started reading before August 2024, I suggest you start over from the beginning. I have changed way more than I ever could've predicted that I would, and it shows. While you're probably going to be able to follow the story, you're probably not going to understand a Solid amount of basic knowledge the characters hold, nevertheless what each character is thinking and why, especially not how we got to this point, if you don't reread the first 28 chapters. But also I'm not your mom you can do whatever you want. But don't say I didn't warn you.
We will go 1-3 releases per remaining arc. Most arcs will be released in two halves, as you can see in the screenshot above. The short explanation is that this means there will be less releases with more chapters. (And don't let the low chapter count fool you, the wordcount goes haywire sooner than you think. The chapters currently average around 4-6k.)
There is 135 chapters in total, it would take me over a year to upload this entire thing even if I released two chapters per week. And I don't want to do that. Therefore, I will release them per arc, which is a collection of chapters about the same part of the story, pretty much. Those releases will look as follows:
Arc 5: Chapters 30-34. (One release)
Arc 6: Chapters 35-51. (Two releases)
Arc 7: Chapters 52-59. (One release) (<- Most subject to change, this bitch is a complete mess in terms of chapter length already. Stay tuned to see how I deal with that I guess!)
Arc 8: Chapters 60-84. (Three releases)
Arc 9: Chapters 85-103. (Two releases)
Arc 10: Chapters 104-109. (One release)
Arc 11: Chapters 110-116. (One release)
Arc 12: Chapters 117-135. (Two releases)
I cannot say when these will be uploaded, but this means that there will be 13 releases of new chapters.
Probably. There is always a chance that I will split up the arcs more, because, I don't know if you've noticed, but the second draft is already getting ridiculously long, and these chapters sometimes take me multiple days to get through. I'm a full-time university student currently getting a bachelors, and I'm at least planning on getting a masters going as well, sometimes I just do not have the time to write as much as I really would.
Anyways! This is how it's going to work on My end of things:
I will edit and finalize the chapters in each release, and then upload that entire batch on Ao3 together. This will take however long it may. I have no deadlines and no goals to hit. It'll be done when it's done. Then I will release a post announcing that this arc has been uploaded, with a link to the First chapter in that arc. This will repeat until we reach the last chapters. And then we're done. It is Way less complicated than it sounds, all you need to do, really, is remember that I will release things less consistently, but when I do release, believe me, you will have stuff to read.
How long is this fic?
135 chapters. And the wordcount of the first draft ended up at 280k words. It will probably be a little more on Ao3 because I always add stuff when I revise. So far I'm 100% on track to double the final draft, but don't hold me to that. I'm personally assuming it'll be somewhere between 350-450k words. All my friends think it will be longer. We'll find out who is in the right once it is done. Point is that while I never intended to set the record for the longest fic sorted by word count on Ao3, well, right now it sure is looking like I will do just that. By a lot.
What is important to keep in mind?
Read the tags. I have consistently talked on my main about how the biggest goal of QuintSum has been to "make Elizabeth's death worth it". Third-party sources would agree that I have done just that. In fact, my friends would all claim I've managed to write a by-the-books tragedy. Do with that what you will. Other than that, you can expect pretty standard things from the game. And a few near-death experiences here and there. I will say tho, remember that I rate this story T, that rating speaks louder than Most of the tags. The tags aren't lying, but the severity of it is dictated more than anything by the rating.
Anything else?
Tell @jorvikzelda that you love them because they're the entire reason that I started, nevertheless finished this fuckass fic of mine. Stay tuned for the release, boys, we fucking made it.
(If you want some sporadic updates because I can't shut up, I'm always yappin over at @shiroselia and otherwise you can find me at Ao3 as per usual)
Cheers!

For the writer ask meme: 3, 7, 14, 16, 20, 27, 34, 35, 40, 44, 61, 74 (❛ں❛ )✧
From the 'Get to know your fic writer!' ask game.
3) Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic
Typically, I'll start with the overall structure. Where the section breaks go, short summaries (maybe just a couple of phrases) of the contents of each section, placing any scenes I've already started in their proper context, and establishing where I'll swap to a different character, if I'm doing that. Then I'll most likely start at the top and write it through to the end. I can write chapters out of order but find it easiest to take each individual chapter in narrative order. Sometimes I'll have pieces I'm joining up, though, so it's not always a strictly linear process.
And then when I'm done, I'll go over it again and again until I'm happy, cutting the text down to what is absolutely necessary to get my point across: I overwrite a lot on first draft, so there'll always be pruning to do!
7) How do you choose which POV to write from?
Switching character point of view is usually a structural conceit: I'll use it to guide the reader through the different angles of a situation, slowly filling in their understanding of what is going on. It's a great method for creating cliffhangers and sudden twists without being cheap (there will always be an explanation, but POV management allows me to keep it in reserve until the correct moment).
But sometimes there are parts of the story or emotional beats that only make sense from a particular character's perspective. Which is not always the one who is experiencing the beat directly, mind you. When I decided to have show what the new Ryusei-Go was capable of in Fata Morgana, it was because I thought that would be most impactful from an outside POV. Yeah, that's a really intense moment for the pilots, but by showing it at a remove, I was able to focus on how preternaturally effective the combination of developed skill and fine-tuned machine really was -- underscoring the thread throughout Wishing on Space Hardware of how damn scary Tekkadan's legacy is for everyone outside their bubble.
14) how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?
I don't exactly feel what the characters feel. They're not really feeling anything, they're words on a page. What I'm generally doing instead is looking for the right words and tempo to hit the pitch of an emotion. It's almost like music, I think, in that emotions have a rhythm to them that alters the character voice, and it's a question of tuning the scene until it conveys the right quality. Even something as simple as how the sentences are laid out can have an impact on that.
So for me, it's an exercise in finding the best combination of tricks and description to hit the note I want to convey. And yeah, a part of that is always going to be drawing on my own experiences and trying to capture what those feelings were like. But that's not always as helpful as you'd think. I happen to know exactly what cold fury feels like, for example, but I'm not sure I could describe it beyond simply saying 'cold fury'. That being said, sometimes that's OK. We have these common turns of phrase for a reason, and coupled to the right cues, they can be very powerful.
16) How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?
Lots of ideas, always, but functionally I am currently working on two things. One is just -- all the Yamagi/Shino/+ smut I can think of and think is worth actually attempting to write. Currently a prospective six chapters of various lengths, a variety of situations and additional factors. It'll hopefully be a good time!
The second is, surprisingly, not the mooted Wishing on Space Hardware future-fic. That's still percolating as I try to draw together my ideas on it into something concrete. No, I got hit by the urge to invent some entirely new OCs and have them do a heist story.
The basic concept is a twin brother and sister who join a military company some years before everything kicks off with Tekkadan. They have the Alaya-Vijnana surgery and while it works for the sister, the brother is left paralysed from the waist down ala Bilth. Their dynamic follows from this with them swearing to do absolutely everything to stay together (this group isn't the CGS and doesn't throw out the 'failures' but they are not expected to survive long), with the brother, Kais, eventually becoming a strategist while the sister, Inas, being the obligatory a mobile suit pilot. Fast-forward to three or four years after Tekkadan's final stand and they're planning to rob Gjallarhorn on the eve of Martian independence.
I think it'll fun to explore* and ease me back into writing for characters the reader won't automatically know everything about, after several years of just doing fanfic.
*Bear in mind that 'fun' here involves me looking up the Bolivian Army Ending trope, so pitch your expectations accordingly.
20) Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
I'm quite fond of a smile that isn't a smile, or isn't quite a smile. I have a thing for performative characters, and the act of shaping oneself to a particular end in general, which leads to toying with what an expression mechanically is and what it is actually conveying. Smiles are just the lowest-hanging branch there, since they are very easy to turn unsettling.
Themes . . . well, I'm not not making a habit of poking at the wider political implications of settings, either to jab at what they're saying or just to find the potential plot-hooks that fall out of events, that the original piece of media didn't find time to explore. It wouldn't be accurate to say I set out to produce political fics: I like the aesthetic of political manoeuvring more than I care to write tracts. But I do enjoy thinking through the hows and whys of a fictional society, and contrasting different levels within it.
And if it can be called a common setting, then I will be found writing exclusively in the one from canon. I just don't really do AUs, certainly not the kind that transpose characters somewhere vastly different. If I like something, I will generally like it on its own terms. I think it's an admirable skill to be able to pull off setting or genre transposition in a way that makes sense, but I'm not interested in trying it myself.
27) What is your most and least favorite part of writing?
I'm not sure how to answer that.
For least, it's less any one task and more reaching the point of having done it so often that I get fed up with it. I will edit until I'm sick of the sight of my own words, or wear myself out of writing for spells at a time. But neither of them are tasks I find onerous in their own right.
For most . . . I think I just like being in the flow of writing, whatever particular task I'm working on at the time.
34) Five years from now, where do you see yourself as a writer?
Not a damn clue. Better than I am now, hopefully. That's all I can wish for.
35) What is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain?
That they're people too.
Proper villains, those who deserve the title and aren't merely antagonistic forces, should act with the same level of interiority and depth as protagonists. They should have desires and motivations, aims they want to achieve and personalities that shape their actions.
They can absolutely be shallow, vain and cruel, but those are all things real people can be and it's always worth asking, as you would of any other character, 'how did they get to be this way?'
Nobody wakes up one day deciding to be evil. There's always a yesterday that made it seem like the best option.
40) If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Aye aye. Coming from the person who's done the most (i.e. any) art influenced by my writing, I can't help feel this is a loaded question! :)
Honestly, there's a whole bunch of characters I'd love to be able to draw myself, or failing that, get commissioned one day. Almiria's gang in particular -- I know Almiria's costume looks like a mix of McGillis-as-general and Relena from Gundam Wing in her Sanc Kingdom outfit, and that Almiria grown-up takes after Gaelio, but it'd be nice to be able to render that in something like IBO's actual style. Similarly with things like post-everything Shino (purple jacket and all), Yamagi in the pilot-suit with short hair, or the Goibniu pilots. I think I just want to be able to draw anime stuff at all, honestly!
Scenes though . . . hmm. For the purposes of structuring my thoughts, I'm going to take liberties and go through all of WoSH in order to see if I can work out which scenes I'd like to see the most.
A Handful of Rusted Petals: Almiria and Bael.
The Grandmaster: This doesn't actually have any non-canon scenes per se, but I'd be interested in what someone might draw based off it, as a concept.
To Catch a Falling Star: Any (all?) of the reunion scenes.
Fragments of You/Pieces of Me: The end scene in bed, where Shino is asking if Yamagi just made a dick joke (he 100% did).
Let Sleeping Angels Lie: Eugene walking in on Shino while Shino is topless and showing Sri his arm.
Between Family: Again, the final scene, mostly for grumpy!Yamagi puncturing the heartfelt conversation.
The Ares Affair: The moment Ride shows up.
The Haunting of Takaki Uno: Takaki confronting Elion, specifically when he asks directly about Galan Mossa.
Frozen Sunlight: The Turbines' games-night.
Of Obsessions and Erotemes: Iverson in cold storage, looking at the bodies.
Revolution for Beginners and Polyamory for Dumbasses: The training scene with Trow, Ride and Hirume. (There's obviously a bunch of stuff in this, but I think that's the one I'd enjoy seeing.)
Under a Crescent Moon: Just anything with Ordsley struggling with everything.
Eugene Sevenstark and the Hesperus Treasure: Oh, the moment everyone has to run away from an avalanche of Haros, absolutely.
Hope Against Hope: The scene with the mirror, I think.
Love, Death and Cannoli: Probably Shino being dumbstruck by Yamagi in the pilot-suit (though I am very fond of Shino getting bullied by the Turbine kids, too).
Fata Morgana: Argi dealing with a drunk Kim.
We Three Kings: Oooo. I can't choose for this one. At a certain point, this is all a series of really big important moments. Probably the fight in the office or the confrontation in the council chamber, if we have to narrow it down, though there's also Lin and Almiria.
History of a Catastrophe: Embi and Asher in the garden, definitely.
Ragnarök in G Minor: Oh, you, specifically, will absolutely know it when we get there. (But also this one is chock full of climactic confrontations so there's dozens I'd love to see in image form!)
Day in the Light: Not posted it yet, but the penultimate scene of WoSH is a very fun one that I'd love to see drawn.
44) What mistakes do you keep making no matter how many times your beta corrects you?
Most often cludging a sentence in the edit. I have a bad habit of missing words, or otherwise reading what I think is one the page, so it's nice to have someone to catch those!
61) Why do you continue writing fics?
You can . . . stop writing them?
74) You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
I think it'd basically include all the answers to question 20. Bonus points for extended exposition scenes that double as character interactions, doppelgangers of some description, and being a post-canon continuation.
-----
Phew! Thanks for asking and asking so many!

3, 8, 9, 20, 27, 32, 35, 51, 53 and 64 for the fic writer ask game!
3. on a scale of 1-10 how much do you enjoy incorporating romance into the average story?
It has its place, and I am guilty of slipping romance or at least shippy vibes into fics that I did not INTEND to be romantic. I also like writing it in general, even though I struggle with writing the physical aspects (kissing). so I'd say, probably like, a 7/10. which is surprising, because the majority of my fics are rated Gen.
actually I went and figured out that out of all my fics, 70% of them are rated gen which I think is a fun coincidence.
8. what’s your relationship with constructive criticism and feedback like? do you seek it out? how well do you take it?
If I ask for it, I would like it. I don't want it if I didn't ask for it. I may still read it and consider it, but I'm gonna be annoyed by it. Feedback in general? fine - but I do like more than just "I liked this", although I love those comments. when I'm looking for FEEDBACK though, I need more than that. I need to know all your thoughts.
9. in an ideal world where you’re already super successful and published, would you want to see a tv or movie adaptation of your work? why or why not?
If I'm involved, why not? I think the majority of my (imagined) works would work better as a series, though. We've seen how turning longer works into movies works - usually not very well. I want to see my ocs on the screen. (in my dream world it would be an animated show, especially the fantasy ones, but we can't have everything in this live action obsessed world.)
20. what is your favorite trope to write?
soft fics: found family
hurt/comfort fics: trauma reveals
27. do you share rough drafts or do you wait until it’s all polished? And who do you share them with?
depends on how much thought I put into a fic. I'll usually at least scan through and reread fics before publishing, but if it's a fic I wrote in one sitting totally at random? I'll skim it and then post without thinking twice. Fics that I put more thought in, I'll go over at least a few times before publishing. I've only shared rough drafts a few times, and that's when I'm really unsure about the story for some reason and need someone to give it a scan and let me know their thoughts.
32. do characters influence your writing style?
oh definitely!! Every character is a little different so that changes how I write their perspective, so that automatically changes the voice I use when I'm writing.
35. tell us about a character who’s very different than you who you love a whole lot
Most characters I love a whole lot are very different from me lmao but the one who comes to mind most of all is probably Yataka from Arata the Legend. He's a very prim and proper man, very focused on etiquette and being a gentleman, he hates being touched, is obsessed with cleanliness, and also is a HUGE bitch, will bicker like a 5 year old with his best friend (neither of them would admit to being best friends and have one of THE MOST dynamics of all time), and has the capacity for extreme violence and absolutely unhinged behaviour. he also hates himself so much. I'm obsessed with him I love him so much.
51. share the synopsis of a story you work on that you haven’t published yet
Sersi gets harassed/assaulted and the team/whoever sees it are fiercely protective. (aka more Sersi whump and team dynamics.) (I'm still debating whether Ikaris should know or not because he may straight up kill the person.)
53.when writing, do you have an outline? and do you stick to it?
depends on how much I care about the details of the story, or how much I want to get it right. Especially if it's a longer fic, I want to plan as much as I can ahead of time. Or if it deals with more serious topics, I want to figure out how to deal with those ahead of time.
64. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve read?
5 Times Where Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji Lose a Braincell and 1 Time Where They Lose Another on account of it being a perfect summary of the fic.

me @the stuff i have to do this week
day 50-56 // 100dop && day 29-35 // 100doc
saturday/sunday: finished lab report and data structures lab, spent what felt like a really long time trying to understand the instructions and distro code for speller.c and wrote lots of notes and some pseudocode for the load function.
monday: finished 2 and a little bit of a 3rd section of chem chapter. wrote drafts for the load, check, and unload functions in speller.c but it's returning the opposite of what i should be getting. ☹️🧐
tuesday: it seems i have to accept that as the semester wears on, my study space will inevitably become very very messy with scrap paper (note to self to sift through them tmr and keep only what i need rn)... finished 2.5 sections of chem chapter but didn't take notes on everything yet (halfway through the chapter whooo 🙌). answered tutorial worksheet. also, for some reason i didn't have to change anything except for some minor things in unload and load and check50 works for everything now???? now all that's left to do is figure out why my size function is not returning the same number as the staff's solution and improve on that dreaded hash function...everything i've tried so far takes longer than the one already in there... 🤔 in my impatience to move on, i started the python lecture (YAY PYTHON 😁💗 i'm so ready to be done with C for now)
wednesday: OMG i wasn't expecting to be able to finish speller today but i DID!!!! i thought it would take me much longer to figure out that hash function - i owe it all to cs50's reddit (and stepping away from it and doing smth else when stuck) 💗💗💗 now i can REALLY enjoy myself w python (my beloved XP) and not have that unfinished problem hanging over my head ☺️ also almost done making notes for the sections covered yesterday and finished 3/4 practice assignments.
thursday: i woke up at 12pm 😑☹️ finished all except 1 section of the assignment bc i haven't covered all of the chapter yet. i haven't even finished taking notes on...several things, it's kind of all over the place and i'm just trying to learn enough to do the assignment and then go back in more detail once i'm done bc that's how bored and overwhelmed i feel rn (did not know it was possible to feel both at the same time until uni XD) 😅 watched a little more of the python lecture even tho i should be prioritizing chem rn... still got the lab report to write and a quiz to do after the assignment 😵💫😑 (it'll be fine, ik, but if i'm being completely honest, it would be soooooo nice if those things could just do themselves and i could download all the info i need into my brain and instantly understand it and be calculator-fast at the math and not make any mistakes 😤)
friday: finished practice assignment, actual assignment, writing all of the lab report except the intro and references, and the python lecture. got through the remainder of the chem chapter but still gotta write notes on it... it was late at night when i got to the python problems and gaaahhhh coding is sm harder on a sleepy brain, i only finished hello.py XD also dunno how much time i'll have to spend on 100doc this weekend but at least i was able to keep up the streak through the weekdays this time!!
saturday/sunday: finished lab report, notes on chem chapter, quiz, and mario.py. am now working on credit.py and uuuggghhh i did not read the instructions carefully for the checksum!!! 😡 i just followed their example but not all credit card numbers are like the one in the example, so...i have to redo and rethink what seems like a lot of stuff so i basically just wasted all of that time getting confused as to why it wasn't working XD aaaannnddd idk if i should be doing this but i keep converting strings to ints back to strings and then back to ints as needed cuz i lovelovelove iterating through strings but also it seems kinda messy? it also feels super weird writing in python after writing in C for a while...

8, 13, 23, 35 and the one about whether you dog ear your book pages from this ask game
Thank you so much for the asks, it took me forever to reply but I am finally getting around to it ;; <3
8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
I for sure would pick writing an entire story without action! Action is just not a strong suit for me when it comes to my writing. I’d like to practice and get better at it, but mostly I just avoid it entirely. Dialogue on the other hand is something I enjoy writing in my stories. It would be an interesting challenge to write a story with no dialogue though!
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
I really had to think about this one. I don’t know if this is a subject matter, specifically, but I’m not adept at writing kids into stories, or kids perspectives? It’s hard to write realistic children's dialogue.
I find it easier to write scenes with intense, high emotions. I find that writing about subjects like loss, found family, and internalized guilt seem to come more naturally to me.
23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.
So at times I write on my computer, sitting at my desk in my pink gaming chair, cat on my lap digging his claws into me and being the lovely distraction that he is. Other times I write late at night on my phone, huddled under the covers, twisting my neck in an uncomfortable position that I don’t even notice until I’m done because I’m so intensely focused on my writing.
35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?
Starting sentences with and. I will start my sentences with and if I very well please. And no one can stop me. I also never write a first draft of anything. My first draft is my final draft and I edit as I go along.
And do I dog ear my book pages? No! I use a bookmark or a receipt or I just try to remember where I left off the next time I pick up the book.

yup. I am up too late again. 'tis 3:30am. oops.
In my defense it was Canada day and my friend and I went to see the fireworks and drive around blasting Guns N' Roses so I did not get home until 11:30. I can make an exception for Canada day (I don't really celebrate, I just like fireworks).
updates:
Word count: 72 692. Page count: 128. Percent: 90.9%. Words since yesterday: 2625 (sort of. I rewrote the bandit king scene I finished yesterday for the fifth time because it felt flat and I hated it. I like it much better now but it holds the record so far more most rewrote scene).
First draft total word count for the equivalent section: 3404 (sort of. not including the rewrite). Number of words cut this session: 779. First draft total word count at the equivalent place: 107 852. First draft total page count at the equivalent place: 156. (Net) number of total words cut from the WIP: 35 160 (oh yeah!).
milestones: 90% AYYYY!! SO CLOSE. Also less than 5000 words to the end of the first draft
(though I did not write a few of the ending scenes so I will probably--finally--add some words rather than cut for the second draft.
how'd it go? well, I rewrote one of the scenes (the bandit king scene) I also rewrote yesterday so it was a two steps forward, one step back kind of day. I also combined it with the dismemberment scene which helped the pacing a lot. After trying the scene with a different setting and realizing it still did not work I realized the biggest problem was Adris was boring in what is supposed to be one of most climactic scenes of the story. I had to give her more agency. The other scenes went pretty smoothly though.
where am I? Whelp, Firnen and Isadred meet in the next scene *wink*
tomorrow, as a treat, I think I shall actually do those tag games I have been putting off. I am over the scary hump now and back into the fluff and comedy. I can see the light at the end!!!

get to know your writer ask game!
2, 3, 30 & 35 please (also you rule xoxo)
Actually anon, I think you rule. Thank you so much for the questions.
I did answer 2 earlier but I will copy paste that answer here for you.
2) Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?
I actually recently started to plan ahead. Probably not each chapter, except for with the fantasy au, but at least an idea of how the story needs to evolve. I still also write as I go because I cannot think of certain plot twists or certain scenes until I'm fully in the story. Also my stories tend to get out of hand and lead somewhere different than I intend at first. Miscommunications Lead to Places is a great example of this, that ending was supposed to be very, very different.
3) Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic
Oh God. Well, it usually starts with one specific scene. It could be the start, the end or something in the middle. And this scene comes to me like I'm watching a movie. It could be due to a song or it could be in a dream or due to anything. But once I get this scene I want to dive into the story behind it. So, if it's a chapter, I'll sit down with paper and a pen and I'll begin writing down keywords and drawing connections and coming up with a plan. Once I have that plan and that scene thought out, I'll sit at my laptop to try to get started which usually requires a specific playlist or even one specific song and I'll just write. If it's a one shot though I'll usually search for a first sentence, any sentence, and I'll just sit at my laptop, put on some music (often Blondie) and write. Sometimes, like for the fantasy au, I will also go on side quests and make up stuff for smaller details to help me get the full picture. But then I just write and once I'm done writing, I'll reread it and try to edit where necessary. And then I'll send it to people to proofread.
30) Do you share rough drafts or do you wait until it's all polished?
I usually try to polish up my work before I share it with anyone but after I share it with some friends I still need to make some changes. I mean, not always but usually there will be minor details that will still need to change so it's not entirely polished up. So, probably somewhere in between. Although rather polished.
35) What is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain?
This is a very interesting question because I don't think I write villains a lot. Of course I will in my upcoming fantasy au. (I am starting to feel like everything I say is promotion for the fantasy au, this is all an elaborate marketing scheme of mine). I think personally when I got down to outline the villain(s) of the fantasy au it was very important to keep in mind that there will always be layers to these characters. If you want to write a good villain than there has to be a motivation for why they do what they do and depending on what story you write you want that motivation to either be understandable or you want it to help the reader hate the character. For example in my upcoming fantasy au the villain is meant to be heartless and selfish and this character or characters will not be getting a redemption arc. But either way, I think the main thing is to find that motivation because your villain needs to be just as believable as your hero.

1. Oneshots
2. I start with an idea and then just go from there.
3. There isn't one I just am given an idea or I think of an idea and then force myself to eventually write it.
4. Things that happen to me or random ideas that I come up with 🤷♀️ /any requests I get.
5. I do like it, I think it is an important part of writing however I am sensitive and so depending on how its worked I can get upset.
6. Sometimes I let one of my friends read it before I post however I don't do this often.
7. I don't 😂 I just write and whatever happens happens, pov's change quite a bit in my fics and I hardly even noticed I've changed perspective.
8. I prefer the middle as by that point I'm into the flow of writing and am starting to get ideas.
9. I comment on some stories I read but I generally just revlog stories as I feel awkward.
10. I don't even understand lol :)
11. 3 Favorite fics:
Baby Scarab by @80pairsofcrocs
Long Distance by @sfwregressionfanfictions
Little Scarab by @lokislittlemidgardian
12. Feedback helps me improve my writing.
13. "Write what you know" - don't push myself to write something that I can't, it's not worth the stress.
14. I use personal experiences, I struggle to write or read angst however I can do it. However I do struggle to regulate on what point is too much.
15. I don't write any NSFW so I don't write smut 🙅
16. I have a Caregiver!Dean fic currently in the works, I can't give any more info as I don't know what I'm doing with it yet 😂 I just know the character I'm doing.
17. I don't write, eventually I will be back and be able to write again. Sometimes if I've been away for too long I will just force myself to write, one of my friends is very good at giving me random bursts of motivation.
18. I title them afterwards as they generally end up different from what they were originally supposed to be. I link them to what happens in the story.
19. Age regression/de ageing.
20. I don't know how to explain it but my writing stays the same and there is a clear pattern in my writing.
21. I would if I knew how or anyone that wanted to.
22. I won't write any NSFW, I don't write anything to do with cheating on someone ever. I tend to not be able to write angst, I can only write hurt comfort. (Most fics I write are age regression based)
23. If its not making you happy, take a break.
24. If someone tells you they don't like how your writing then just stop and quit and move onto a new hobby. (You should never let anyone dictate what you do and don't do <3)
25. This one -> Means the world to me.. (This was quite hard as I am very happy with how most of my fics have done, I am very lucky to be part of such wonderful fandoms.)
26. This one -> What was your favourite part..
(This was based on a bad day out that I had and this is basically what happened exactly, without the comfort aspect. So I think this was a roller coaster of emotions)
27. My favourite part of writing is being able to create content for people to enjoy. My least favourite part of writing is when I struggle to think of an certain word and then I can't move on until I think of the word.
28. I generally write a fic within a day or two so normally I write a fic or half a fic a day.
29. Non existent tbh.
30. I wait till its all polished however that my polished is most likely the same quality of most others rough drafts.
31. Plot, and them from there I choose characters based on who I think works best with the plot (unless it's a request where they only tell me a character what they want rather than a plot and then I reverse the process.)
32. 3 Favourite fanfic writers:
@lokislittlemidgardian
@honeybeewritings
@jjtheresidentbaby
33. Yes I do, for ages growing up I wanted to be an author and I'd still love that.
34. With probably not much changing 😂 maybe my vocabulary and structure gets a bit better within 5 years.
35. A villain is just a person, in their story who is the villain. Perspectives are important.
36. I don't :)
37. Not really sure, I guess when I feel that an event had finished and the next thing is going to happen..?
38. Maybe?
39. I don't really have any atm 💀
40. This one -> Mini Winchester (I was really happy with the idea and I would love to see fanart of it tbh. Reality is I just want to see regression fanart XD)
41. I reread fics SO OFTEN 😂 I used to only read once and now I just go back to my favourites repeatedly.
42. The last fic I read was -> Baby Scarab (I was actually rereading it for I think the 4th time now lol) I definitely recommend it as it is amazing however it is important to read the warnings on each chapter!!
43. Second option, I can only do hurt comfort 😂 I can't stand just angst towards my favourite characters :(
44. ✨ Spelling ✨ (it's always been really bad)
45. Make them laugh.
46. Plot driven.
47. Like 6 times and then another 4 after I post it 😂 I always get a bad feeling that I've made loads of mistakes (normally I have made a few lol.)
48. I don't.
49. Sometimes I tend to just delete them. I don't need that negativity.
50. My longest fic was 14,000 ish words (and no its not posted on here 😂)
51. Not sure
52. I do as I love to interact with people who have taken the time to comment on my content.
53. I started as just a reader and then I found that in some fandoms I'm in we were lacking in content so I started to make some and now I'm 50/50.
54. When I finally start to get into the flow of writing and it becomes easy as I know what I want to write.
55. Currently my favourite character I have written for is a tie between Castiel and Gabriel, however my followers favourite seems to be Snape :)
56. I come up with or use decent plots.
57. As I write, I cant move on if k notice something is wrong.
58. Brainstorming.
59. Yes, however family knows I write but not what I write and my 2 favourite friends follow me on here <3
60. I have not.
61. So small fandoms I'm in have content amd I enjoy writing.
62. Love and hate them.
63. Don't read or write it.
64. ^
65. The Dean fanfic request I got :)
66. I honestly just shut down as I get overwhelmed.
67. Prompts.
68. Content for small fandoms.
69. This one -> its okay baby.. (It was my first age regression fic and it shows)
70. Enthusiastic to say I write, embarrassed to say what I write as I don't want people to judge or misunderstand.
71. I don't I just wait and see what happens.
72. Chronological I think?
73. Nothing 😂
74. I often project how I speak onto certain characters.
75. Writing the meltdown for -> Loud (As I was having a meltdown whilst trying to write it)
76. Literally all of my fics have scenes that don't make it in.
77. Not really.

TAOS Diary Entry #3
Okay, y'all, I'm struggling.
I'm thinking seriously about scrapping TAOS for now and pivoting back to a different WIP, because I've never had this many issues starting a story before. I just can't figure out how to get to the point I want to get to. What am I doing wrong?
I feel a little bit crazy because I feel like one of my strong suits is being able to write something with very little direction. But that's simply not happening here.
I've been working on the same few paragraphs for days now and it's just not right. And I really can't move on until I have them because they're literally the foundation for the rest of the story.
I'm tempted to drop TAOS for now. Or maybe I should scrap my entire plan for it and start anew? But I fear that I'll run into the same problems again.
I wish I had a writer's group to go over some of these issues. I really don't know if there's something obvious that I'm missing.
I'm gonna call it a day here--having written 35 words in the draft--and try not to dwell. Dwelling doesn't help.
Maybe I should pick up Blood Atlas instead.
Before I do any of that, here. I'll drop everything I've written so far. Maybe some random Tumblrer will see the obvious roadblock for me.
^5100 words, romantic fantasy, tw for animal death
Ok bye (melts into oblivion)

If gofushi not canon, then why [3]
Kawaii student
It's weird to call a guy 'kawaii' since it's an adjective for a subject that you want to coddle or spoil? Instead, guys would prefer being called kakkoii (cool/stylish) rather than kawaii (cute) lol. It caught me off guard first time hearing it ._.
Funny how Satoru previously told Sukuna that he wanted to show off/look cool in front of his student kekek
That said, I definitely think that Satoru spoils Megumi.
Homewreckers?!
If the previous gofushi hints were too subtle, they decided to be blunt with Satoru outright saying that Megumi and him are in a relationship.
Let's go home, Megumi-chan
(heavy gesturing, throws hands to head, crumples into a ball and rolls away while muttering Megumi-chan)
The violin lessons were also used in the movie Leon, where Mathilda lied that she played the instrument.
Megumi and I 'have been together' since I was a student
What other tease are they going to drop on us next... why did the author/editor or whoever was in charge of it decide to use 付き合い
Jisho (JP dict) says that it means "association; socializing; socialising; fellowship" but it's also used when you are dating someone. Are they trying to imply something?
Satoru got annoyed that people didn't take homewreckers seriously so now he has to reiterate that they have been dating for 9 years. Must be hard being boxed and seeing all these homewreckers persons flirting with Megumi. Gotta take all the chances you can get, I understand.
Do whatever you want
It is a meaningful phrase because Touji is letting Gojou decide what to do with his child's fate. His choice of words before dying is also smart because Gojou can ignore Megumi too. Maybe he believed that if someone could do something about Megumi's future, it was Gojou Satoru the sorcerer who just became the strongest.
Megumi thinks that his parents abandoned him and the only adult that has stuck with him the longest is Gojou.
Leon
(I'm salty Leon wasn't referenced in the anime)
A movie about a hitman that takes in a girl whose entire family was killed. She wants to get revenge for her sibling so she starts to learn his job. Sounds familiar...
Also, the girl ends up developing feelings for him. Regardless, it's a good movie.
If Satoru watched the movie, I wonder what did he think about their relationship?
Since I was a student ≠ Since Megumi was a kid
About the phrase "Megumi and I have been together since I was a student."
There's a difference in its significance. Instead of focusing on Megumi, he is using his own perspective when he was a student making it more personal about Satoru.
when Megumi came into my life :^)
9 years growing into their roles together
From their initial interaction and what it meant for them, Satoru began learning how to be a teacher with Megumi, and Megumi began learning how to be a jujutsushi with Satoru.
It was a turning point in their lives, a journey that they started together.
[part 1] [part 2] [part 3] [part 4] [part 5]
#gofushi#五伏#gojou satoru and fushiguro megumi#I worked on the draft until 3:35 am#and I wasnt even tired#what kinda coffee did I drink#or is this the gofushi fuel-#didnt even get enough sleep last night

Pregnant s/o’s midnight cravings
Haitani Ran, Ryuguji Ken, Mitsuya Takashi
Content & Warnings: married life, pregnancy, fluff
an: I finished writing this from my drafts then after, I’ll be posting requests I’ve finished! <3
Haitani Ran
1:35 am: It wasn’t unusual for ran to be awake at midnight. He said his mind functioned better at later hours and he got more work done that way so he mostly stays up late to finish papers and everything in between. What was unusual was for you to be awake at that hour. Ran quietly worked in your bedroom, he was typing away the last portions of this week’s requirements when he heard you shuffling over and over in the sheets ‘til you finally let out a grunt and kicked off the duvet. Ran stood up and walked towards you with concern. He found you sitting up against the head board with a frown on your face.
“Baby? What’s got you angry at this hour? Can I help you?” He sat down beside you, reaching out to your hand to give it a reassuring squeeze. “No, I’m sorry I bothered your work, baby, I’m just a little hungry. I’ll go get a snack”. You were about to get up when he gently motioned for you to rest easy. “I’ll do it for you, what is it that you want to eat?”
“Grilled cheese sandwich. And chocolate milk” ran let out a breath of relief. It was a good thing he went grocery shopping the day before. He didn’t need to go out at this hour because he had all that you wanted. Before he left to get your food, he crouched down next to your belly, he kissed it and whispered “next time, don’t wake mommy, she needs lots of sleep so you can grown more”
Ryuguji Ken
2:47 am: Draken was fast asleep, tired from working all day at the shop. Well, he WAS fast asleep until he reached out to your side of the bed and realized that it was empty. His eyes opened abruptly, the lights in the bathroom weren’t on so you probably weren’t there. Then he heard the jingling of car keys and shuffling right outside the bedroom door. He jumped out of bed in an instant, taking long strides, finally reaching the door. He stepped into the living room and was greeted by his pregnant wife struggling to put on shoes. The 7 month baby bump making it difficult for you to crouch down. “Yn? What are you doing? Why are you putting on shoes and why are you holding the car keys?” You looked up at your husband, he looks sleepy yet shaken. “Oh did I wake you? Sorry about that ken, I was about to go get some french fries and milk shakes” you let out a nervous laugh. “And not tell me?” He wasn’t angry but immensely concerned and he made it so obvious too. “Well.. I mean you were so tired today. I didn’t want to wake you up at this hour just for my silly cravings”
Draken let out a heavy sigh before crouching down in front of you, putting your shoes on for you and taking the car keys. He remained kneeling down while he caressed your cheeks with his hand. “You know I wouldn’t mind waking up at any hour and driving for how ever long you want me to. Come on, I’ll drive. Let’s go get you those fries. And never do that again, don’t ever leave at this hour without me, ‘kay?” You nodded, unable to speak because of how overwhelmed you were. Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones speaking but your heart felt so full knowing that you had a husband as loving and genuine as draken was.
Mitsuya Takashi
2:29 am: Mitsuya was sleeping well and cozy until he was gently woken up by your talking. Who were you even talking to at this hour? He listened more intently to your whispers:
“Hey little mitsuya, stop waking me up in the middle of the night. Stop giving me cravings. Mama is too tired to get up all the time to get food for you, you’re getting kinda heavy nowadays, you know?” Mitsuya smiled at what he witnessed. His heart does somersaults whenever he’d hear you talking to your baby. He sat up slowly, caressing your baby bump gently. “Hey little mitsuya, it’s okay to wake me up any time, I’ll get mommy whatever she wants”
“Oh Takashi I didn’t realize you were up, I’m sorry was I too loud?” You sent him an apologetic look. “Not at all, love. But next time, just ask me to get things for you, hm?” He gave you a quick kiss before scooping you up bridal style to take you to the kitchen. “Hey put me down, I can walk!”
“Didn’t you say you were getting tired because of how heavy baby mitsuya is getting?”

questions for the fanfiction writing asks! 1, 3, 5, 10, 11, 12, 22, 35, 36, 72, 73, 74. (… feel free to only do some if this is too many.)
hahaha i saw '1, 3,' in the preview and thought 'oh I hope there's three questions!' roll you've got mail gif of tom hanks rubbing his hands together and blowing on his fingers:
Gloam's Great Big Writing (W)ramble
Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike? I go for it straightaway. When I get an idea and can't exorcise it due to things like Operating A Motor Vehicle it literally just churns inside of me until I can. I wrote 80% of Black Shore as jot notes in a parking lot while eating a burger with one hand. My ideas are less patient than me. which ha ha truly says a lot.
Do you share your fic ideas, or do you keep them to yourself? Oh, share for sure. If I ever manage to conceive, draft, and publish a whole entire story without telling anyone about it I want a PRIZE.
How many wips do you have? What fandoms/pairings are they for? I was like "two! wait three - no, four" anyways I went and looked in my one (1) fic drafting document (clocking in at a healthy 90K lol) and counting everything I've put words down for and intend to put MORE words down for it would be, uh, haha fifteen
Do you work on multiple wips or stick to one fic at a time? I try to only focus on one but right now I have an overgrown drabble and a chapter for Oaths that I both equally want to have been done YESTERDAY so I have been bouncing between them both for a few days. I do think I could really dig doing drabbles THAT BEHAVED THEMSELVES in between longfic chapters though!
Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around? In order, but I have no qualms putting [thing happens] and moving on because I already have to consciously try so hard to keep momentum and not constantly faff about with wording as I go. I have slipped up with Oaths a couple times now because there's just SO MUCH to write for it lol
Do you outline your fics? If yes, how detailed are your outlines? How far do you stray from them? I was labouring for a while under the delusion I was 'outlining' but I have since realized I am actually just writing fics as fast as possible in a very loose way first before I forget anything, because apparently most outlines do not have, uh enormous chunks of fully-written dialogue, play-by-play actions, and detailed descriptions of scenes and character beats? the only time I do not do this has been prompt fills but it actively makes my brain ache a little to try and remember everything inside my head while my fingers slowly write it in full lol
Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles? Titles for canon fics have all come part way through. They just Show Up, and I know it's right when it Feels Right? I like punchy short titles that are outright utilitarian OR that you read after reading the fic and go 'HEY' because it was The Theme All Along. For AUs I am clinically incapable of thinking of them as anything other than 'Descriptor AU' which is why it took me over a week after posting it and two chapters in to title my Tam Lin AU
What’s your favorite fic you’ve posted? I am a terrible parent because I was going to say 'I could make a case for any of them' but it's actually any of them except Emissary of the Night. I wish I could even say I feel guilty haha. Nothing against it at all! I'm happy with it and proud of the response it's gotten, I'm just not attached.
What fic are you proudest of? Border Country. No matter what else I write, it will always be Border Country. If I publish a real life novel and it wins awards it will actually, still, be Border Country. And it will be Border Country because that was second story I wrote. Doing something previously unthinkable once is pretty wild. But I have been known to do wild shit! Doing it a second time, consciously, right after the first one went so well that a part of you is saying very persuasive unhinged things like: stop while you're ahead, lightning only strikes once, it likely won't be as good or as well-received and you won't be able to cope with that, better to not find out, don't make people have to humour you, Gloam, that's rude, be satisfied with this alone, was the actual wildest thing I've done. I started writing a second story immediately after Saint Morpheus because the response was overwhelming and incredible, and I knew if I didn't post something again within a week or two that would be the only thing I ever posted, probably. So I wrote Border Country in five days, posted it, felt like I'd defeated a curse, and I am so proud of me for it.
What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten? Black Shore getting printed, annotated, filled with marginalia and brilliant analysis, and being written an entire formatted essay in the comments about it. I wept! I literally wept and phoned my best friend about it. Literary analysis is a love language and getting that comment forced me to briefly realize that I am for the first time ever existing on the other side of the medium of written word that I have loved my whole entire life. surreal!! incredible!!
What do you tend to get complimented on the most about your writing? unsure! but I like it the most when people Have Strong Feelings @ me, quote lots of bits and pieces, or make any comment on Themes (see above lmao)
Do you have a fic you wish got a bit more love? Oaths haha - if you would like my silly rant on Why You Should Check It Out it's here :)

47, 45, 43, 38, 36, 35, 29, 30, 25, 26, 17, 7, 8 , 1 & 5!! hahah sorry if it’s a lot i’m just curious 🤷♀️♥️
Oh wow !😘 Okay this might take me a bit but here you go! I'm going to put a few under the cut as well so it isn't as long. 💓
1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction?
Oh gosh - definitely really young. I used to watch TV shows and read books and would rewrite things my own way. I also wrote some really bad ER fanfiction at the age of 11. I was really embarrassed about writing fanfiction for years (literally up until ... December) and now I just kind of own it. It's been part of my life for a very long time.
5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?
WSNE, for sure. I remember outlining it back in July of last year laughing at myself thinking "well, if I finish this one day, this is how it will go." I never thought I would actually finish it, or that it would become what it did. I'm secretly really proud of it and sometimes I forget that I wrote it from nothing.
7) When is your preferred time to write?
This sounds bizarre - but early morning (think 3:30-4:45 AM). I have really weird sleep habits and wake up really early, and would do most of my writing then. A ton of WSNE was written in the early mornings.
8) Where do you take your inspiration from?
Everywhere. I know it's a simple answer but a lot of things I write are based in real life experience of either myself or people I know. I get a lot of inspiration from music and movies, and of course, other writers too. Sometimes it'll be a conversation with another writer, or sometimes it just comes to me.
17: Post a line from a WIP that you’re working on.
This is not Hotchniss related, but it's what I'm currently working on:
He recognizes the tone he uses, the gentle one that he often saved for the middle of the night when they would curl up into each other and pretend reality didn’t exist outside the windows of his apartment
25: I answered this one here
26: Which part of your xxx fic was the hardest to write?
I struggled immensely with chapter 44 of WSNE. The aftermath of Doyle was so overwhelming to wrap up and somehow get Emily/Aaron back together believably while still keeping things moving. There were so many loose ends and a lot of emotion and it took me a very long time to get that one done.
29: Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?
Not really - I am very grateful for all of the love and support on all of my stories. I really can't ask for more in terms of that ... and I am so lucky to have such wonderful, loyal readers. I recognize usernames so when I see the same people coming back ... it just makes me so happy.
30: In contrast to 29 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?
Again, not really. I am always happy to see when one of my older stories gets some love. Acquiesce, the first fic I ever wrote for Hotchniss (well, in 2020 - not counting the one I wrote in 2011) lately got some love on ao3 and that made me smile.
35: Do you share your story ideas with anyone else or do you keep them close to your chest?
I was hoping someone would ask me this. I have been so, so lucky to have made some wonderful friends thanks to writing. Being able to share things with them - quickly send them something with "does this make sense?" or show them the first draft of something ... it has been a joy on both ends (sharing my own writing and theirs being shared with me)
36: Can you give us a spoiler for one of your WIP’s?
So ... think Grey's Anatomy, bomb episode from s2, but Hotchniss. 😈
38: If you could collab with any other writer on here, who would it be?
There are so many I had a really hard time with this. But I would probably have to say @eprcntiss. I am always in awe of their work, and after the masterpiece that was Sunday, I would love to see what we could come up with!
43: Has anyone ever guessed the plot twist of one of your fics before you posted it?
@whitecrossgirl guessed that Derek was the BAU team member killed in Right Where You Left Me almost immediately.
45: What spurs you on during the writing process?
Feedback. It's a common answer because it's very true. Reading reactions from others and hearing that someone out there enjoyed something I created is a wonderful feeling. I am always very grateful for comments, kudos, and reblogs. It really does help :)
47: Here’s a fic title - insert a made up title. What would this story be about?
I would love to do this one, but I need a title 😉
And, dear anon, whoever you are, thank you for sending all of these! I'm very flattered! 💓

West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of England international Rachel Daly on loan from Houston Dash.
Daly moves to the Hammers from the National Women’s Soccer League side on a temporary deal until the end of the calendar year and is the second loan signing in as many weeks, after Emily van Egmond joined from Orlando Pride.
The versatile Lioness – who is capable of playing full-back, on the wing and in attack - is West Ham United’s eighth signing ahead of the 2020/21 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season, which kicks off this Sunday for the Irons with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
"I am very excited to join West Ham United on loan and come and play in the Barclays FA Women's Super League,” Daly told whufc.com. “West Ham is a fantastic club with a strong squad, filled with proven internationals and talented youngsters, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in the team.
"I've known Matt Beard for a long time as well and it will be great to work with him in the coming months. I know we have two really big games to kick-off our season, starting this weekend against Tottenham, and I'm really looking forward to getting started."
Head coach Matt Beard believes Daly’s experience and track record will prove to be a valuable asset for the Hammers in the first half of the 2020/21 campaign.
Beard said: “I am delighted to bring Rachel to West Ham. The opportunity to have a proven England international in our squad on a short-term deal was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
“Rachel is an experienced player, proven at the top level of the game, who will fit into our squad perfectly in terms of how we play and what we expect from our squad. I am looking forward to working with her over the coming months.”
Born in Harrogate, Daly spent her formative years on the books with Leeds United, helping the side to win the FA Women’s Premier League Cup in 2010, before spending a season with Lincoln Ladies.
Daly joined Houston Dash as part of the 2016 NWSL College Draft, as the sixth overall pick, with the forward scoring and providing an assist on her debut, which came in a 3-1 win over Chicago Red Stars. She finished her first season with four assists and four goals.
Daly would better her previous seasons’ tally in the 2017 campaign, scoring five goals in 23 outings, before enjoying a prolific 2018 season with ten finishes. This led to Daly being named Houston Dash’s MVP and also named in the NWSL Season XI for the 2018 season.
The 28-year-old was named Houston Dash captain ahead of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, leading her side all the way to their first trophy with a 2-0 victory over Chicago Red Stars in the final. Daly was named the tournament MVP, after scoring three goals and providing one assist in five matches.
At international level, Daly has earned 35 caps and scored three goals, with her first Lioness finish coming on her debut against Serbia in June 2016.
Daly was included in Phil Neville’s squad for the 2018 SheBelieves Cup, in which England were runners-up, before helping her national team to win the competition in 2019.

This screenshot from my playthrough of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Fallen is mesmerizing. I keep getting drawn to it.

I’ve had these screenshots sitting in my drafts for a minute. Not sure of my intent, but at the very least it’s an interesting contrast.
The first screenshot is Mega Man Legends on the PlayStation from 1997 (1998 outside Japan), and the second is from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998). I don’t think either screenshot is from the original hardware, or at least not as the games would have appeared on CRT televisions of the time.
As contemporaries, it’s fair to compare them as action-adventure games in which a player radiates out from a central hub to explore the world and its dungeons. Mega Man had a more robust customization system for its weaponry and the dungeon designs are fairly generalized to accommodate a broad array of weapons and tools, whereas Ocarina continues the series legacy of specialized dungeons designed around specific items. Mega Man also has a more boxy aesthetic to its characters and world, while Ocarina is more naturalistic in its palette and geometry. In terms of animation, Ocarina has nothing on the expressive anime-inspired characters faces from Mega Man, perhaps the most memorable aspect of the performances in that game. The main knock against Mega Man Legends is that its camera is based on the PlayStation original controller without analog sticks, and so movement and camera control is stiff and not as pleasant as the Nintendo 64′s camera experiences (or later PlayStation games that utilized the DualShock controller).
But the strongest feeling here is unexpected joy. I rented Mega Man Legends from Blockbuster Video three times before I finally bought it. I can’t say what compelled me to initially rent it (perhaps just a spotlight in a game magazine and a general interest in Capcom’s work at the time), but as I played through it and then kept going until I explored every nook and cranny, I realized this was a game that could fulfill what was missing as someone who hadn’t owned Nintendo’s SNES and Nintendo 64 until many years later. I was just not getting these Zelda and Mario experiences that so many raved about, and so I looked for surrogates. Mega Man Legends unexpectedly filled that role and then far exceeded my expectations. It’s a game of light-hearted adventure, pirates, and robots, but also explores themes of legacy and the expectations of previous generations on those who must make lives of what was left behind. It has so many fun character moments and part of the joy is just getting to know the inhabitants of Kattelox Island as they struggle to “eke out a living on the small patches of land that remain above the sea.” It’s Waterworld, it’s robots, it’s anime. There’s so much there.
Capcom produced a sequel and a side game starring the anti-hero Tron Bonne, then dropped it for years. There was a brief attempt to pick up the cliffhanger ending from Mega Man Legends 2 with a third game, but the project died when the series director left Capcom and there’s little hope of seeing any more games in the series. The good news is that the three main games in the series are available digitally for PS Vita and PS3 through the PS Classics label on the PSN store. All worth checking out!

ALL FUCKIN 35 OF THEM SKLNWESDJFPXO
I SHOULDVE EXPECTED THIS FROM YOU
1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
A three! I think I’m mid range cause I ain’t terrible but there is still shit I gotta improve and grow in my writing
2. Why do you write fanfiction?
to manifest what canon won’t give me and to write more! (though yes it is mainly about the smooching and the— I’ll stop there LOL)
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
Hm! My weird research details? I’m that “fun fact, did you know...” in my fics sometimes LOL! I plan on giving a penthouse for erina in a fic and I went through penthouse listings in Japan for floor layouts and locations💀 my research gives me inspo and depth to stuff I think I lack in comparison to others sometimes.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
In terms of fellow fic writers, one of them I can’t name here but she’s an inspiration with her exceptional gift for prose period and her lovely skill at comedy! I want to be as funny as her when I write, I love her ironic situational humor. Other fic writers are @takoyakitenchou, @royaldragonsevgisi15 who I always love sharing ideas with and motivate me to create more! For non-fic writers it would be V.E. Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Oda, and Horikoshi! The last two may be mangaka, however they are writers as well to create their stories! The depth these creators have given their worlds and interesting characters theyve given life to are all what I aspire to be like!
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
so far uh?? hm everything I’m currently writing are wips lol!! im proud of my wip that has been nicknamed ‘soma panics’ that is a multi-chapter fic that spans like probs 20 plus chapters maybe
6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?
dialogue! it’s so much fun! and character thoughts. I’ve said to people I may be better suited for script writing
7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
I think it’s description, of like setting and showing action. also an expansion of my vocabulary LOL
8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?
erina! I think it’s because canon has shown us many of her different faces and range of emotion.
9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?
SOMA!! chill ass mofo whos more carefree compared to the common shonen protagonist! for other shokugeki characters I’m not sure just yet because I haven’t flexed my fingers enough for the rest of them.
10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?
I guess I should say romance cause that’s what I mostly write LOL!
11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?
sorina and I try to get them to smooch eventually KEK and yeah it’s..usually romantic fluff lmao
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
HONESTLY ALL OF THEM but “soma panics” is my brain child
13. First fandom you ever wrote for?
pretty sure it’s digimon....
14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?
currently shokugeki no soma!!!!
15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?
uhhhh I guess SNS? LMAO fandoms...all have their quirks to them.
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
characters cuddling!!!! or getting the urge to smooch!!!!
17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.
unrequited love GOOD FUCKIN BYEEEEEE
18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?
I have plot ideas thst can be wild potentially but so far nothing fits this criteria so far that I actually have written.
19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
depends on the fandom, but if written well, all of it!
20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?
shippy 100% like I said I like smoochin
21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)
romantic is...*drumroll* SORINA! platonic, soutaku and erina and alice!
22. Do you listen to anything while you write?
Sometimes! There are times songs will be on loop and times I just shuffle a playlist. and if I’m writing in random bursts it’ll be with no music but it really does depend lmao I think music is when I’m forcing myself to write?
23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?
completely independent ideas, I’ve realized in the past prompts shoot me in the foot often unless I luckily figure something out. but I’m often driven by my own sporadic self interest with shitty ping ponging attention
24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
multi-chap I guess cause I can post without being finished LOLLL but tbh can I really answer? I haven’t finished anything.....
25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!
I can’t answer this question imo because I haven’t finished a fic yet so technically stuff could all fit in the one fic?
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
MYSTERY AND CRIME! I love the genre and I have plot ideas once a blue moon but I can’t dive in because I want to make details that work and reduce plot holes where suspension of disbelief isn’t as needed. I need to study it more (I need to study all the details for any of my fics imo to be confident sometimes LOL)
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
I don’t think I can say one comment was the nicest because I’ve gotten comments that have given me quite the smiles to my face many times! I know this is a cop out but it’s true!
IS WHAT I WAS GONNA SAY UNTIL REINA SENT ME THE FOLLOWING ON DISCORD LIKE TWENTY MINS AGO:
and also rad. i am never this vocal about my emotions like EVER but this needs to be said your fics are obviously far from perfect, as are mine and everyone else's. but the thing about your works is that they're so well-sanded that it's impossible to find any rough edges or faults in them in terms of cohesion to a plot. your cast is never OOC and the amount of effort you devote to developing your takes on the characters as accurately as possible is unimaginably awe-inspiring.
BITCH I WANNA CRY 😭
28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?
I’d like to believe I take it often well to try and improve because that’s always my goal. if someone is rude lol that’s not constructive snd is unhelpful. If I disagree with criticism I’ll explain why !
29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
Not yet, but I have some plot ideas I think will let me test this.
30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
F L U F F.
31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
elliott fuji, a japanese-american award winning photographer who is erina’s boyfriend in ‘soma panics’ which..causes soma’s panic LOL he’s 30 with slightly wavy black hair. I still haven’t pinpointed his personality just yet...he kind of humble brags for sure an artsy fucker and flirts maybe I’ll make him a lil shy though. he teaches sometimes, and becomes an adjunct photography professor in Tokyo so he can be with erina.
32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
a cook is unfashionably late in realizing his feelings.
33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?
I am a slow. so slow. motivation who is she? I also write out of order, unfortunately a bit too often.
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
this should be for the fic ‘soma panics’ it’s either megumi or satoshi talkin to him rn, I’m leaning towards satoshi
“You thought she would always wait for you, didn’t you Soma-kun? To always welcome you home.”
Soma drags his palms down his face and groans. He doesn’t like this at all. He doesn’t shy from confrontation but this is a whole different ballgame. Soma doesn’t play any ball.
“I guess..?” Is his reply, because he thinks he isn’t sure how to answer that.
“You guess?”
Just being questioned again is enough to crack Soma’s pathetic facade as if it was dropped chinaware and he lets out the longest sigh.
“No.”
Coming home means coming home to Nakiri Erina too.
Nakiri Erina is his forever.
this is @takoyakitenchou’s excerpt she’s most proud of that I’ve written, which is also from you guessed it, the long fic soma panics
SOMA: I am, I mean I will be, I swear I will always come home to you, not spend as much time abroad, once I’m done with work I’ll come right back. I’ll make sure to message you. Nakiri, I’m in love you with you. Maybe for a really long time. You know how I say I dedicate my food to you? My dad—my dad said that the key to become a good chef is to find someone to dedicate your cooking to. A special someone. For my dad it was my mom, you know? For me it’s...
(this is a good piece of dialogue tbh so I am also proud of this)
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
I’ve mentioned it throughout this but the WIP I’ve nicknamed ‘soma panics’ is something I’m super excited to write, but it’s going on slowly...and almost completely out of order. out of all of my writing it showed off that particular habit of mine, along with “what is this, a shoujo manga?!” though the latter is currently being written chronologically now that I’ve posted chapter one and is pretty solid in direction. it was originally supposed to be a one shot but I got impatient and wanted to post at least something for the sorina / soueri fandom.
however, because ‘soma panics’ (I won’t call it that LOL) is my baby I want to keep true to my rule of refusing to post it until I have a draft of the entire fic finished and I’m satisfied with the main points pretty much. due to my writing out of order, I’m worried I’ll change my mind about scenes or want to reflect things in earlier chapters for later ones etc etc
I joined the SnS fandom extremely late, as season five was airing. I was a fan of the manga five years ago and dropped it because I forgot to check for updates when I caught up 😔 I really want to bang out the different fics and aus for sorina that I have before the fandom fizzles out entirely but tbh I’m writing for myself, I’m manifesting what I want to see and I’ll just share it with all my friends to read if no one else will. cause I’m slow broski I dunno what writing fast even is like LMAO I do really want to write faster though, so I can contribute more and let the words free from the discord dms....
#ask meme#ask rad shit#writing#writing by rad#fanfic#reina girl u put me thru it I swear lol#thank u for sending!!#ur amazing!!!!
