Years ago, I met a boy in a McDonald's PlayPlace who said his father wanted to name him Sonic, though his mother wanted something a little more mainstream, and he therefore wound up being called Luke Sonic (though primarily went by his middle name.) Frankly, I'm not sure which I'd rather believe: A) this is the truth, B) he saw some other kid at the fast food joint and was immediately inspired to lie about this, or C) this is an old lie he tells everyone, almost legitimized by repetition.
Luke Sonic, if you're out there, know that you've managed to occupy a small bit of my mind ever since.

I remember discussing Tintin casting choices with a friend from Germany and remarked how it was odd he often has an English accent in adaptations rather than a Belgian one, and my friend just replied "that's because Tintin gives incredibly strong English boy energy (derogatory)"
Here in the UK there's a lot of weird classism tied into accents. Today accent diversity and representation in broadcasting is actively pursued but in Tintin's time there certainly was a preferred accent to have.

ETA BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE GETTING SNARKY: i am asking it this specific way with these specific poll options (american vs non-american) because it's my understanding and experience that most US state public schools actively suppress any teaching of labor history in any concrete way to the point of editing textbooks. i'm not trying to be an american exclusionist here or say that there weren't non-american labor movements. i'm saying that as a historian with degrees i have noticed that there is a very different attitude towards teaching labor history in the united states than there is in other countries. for fuck's sake.

yknow i loved zolf deeply from like episode 1 and everyone else took a while to grow on me (actually i probably liked bertie second for a while JUST because james is funny as fuck but bertie became insufferable ofc) but then he was gone and sasha and hamid were still here and they'd been here forever and sasha in particular was so so so so so good that while I really wanted to maintain zolf as the absolute fave of faves since he was gone so long i started to feel like maybe sasha is actually my number one favorite and then maybe even like hamid is second because god i love him too (no shade to azu and grizzop i adore them they just never came close to having anything on zolf is all im saying) but now that zolf is back it's like NOPE THAT ONE THAT ONE THAT ONE THAT ONE THAT'S MY LITERAL EVERYTHING I MISSED YOU SO MUCH
