to me it's painfully blatant noctis has dealt with depression most of his life. i realized that, as much as i reference it in passing comments, i'm not actually sure if most ppl look at it under this lense. so, to keep everyone in the same wavelength (regardless if you agree or not w my interpretation), i'm gonna ramble abt that under the cut👍

   - he's around 5-6 years old when the first signs start manifesting, due to the alienating feeling that comes with his father's absence. the accident he suffers at 8 years old is a deeply disturbing event (his earliest and nearest encounter with gore, violence & death) that, post-coma, makes noctis significantly more somber and distant for a child his age, even to his own father. during that recovery, he witnesses the empire's invasion of tenebrae and experiences incredible distress from watching luna fall behind. all these images sit with him heavily, and the insomnia he develops messes up his sleeping pattern from here on out.    - he starts showing a tendency for isolating himself during middle school. he feels as though kids only approach him for his status, and so he makes excuses to avoid interaction (that one scene in brotherhood where he straight up walks out from a conversation under the guise of going to the toilet). later on, the isolation habit would take on more complex reasonings.    - he moves out at 15 years old, and, although the privacy provides some relief, it still feels lonely. frankly, it’s escapism and further isolation. noctis reaches a severe depressive rut during highschool. he struggles finding the energy to function properly, and it's not only evident in his demeanor, but his apartment too; it's filthy and dark, bagged trash and clothes everywhere. he hardly ever cooks anything substantial, and when he does, it usually goes wrong, which just discourages him further. he’s constantly fatigued, which oftentimes gets reduced to simply being “sleepy”. to noctis, every day is a struggle of “what can i bring myself to accomplish?”, and his efforts usually go to academic work (i mean, he graduated on top of his class), making him too mentally tired to muster more energy for royal training/duties.     it also doesn't help his royal duties start increasing at the same time his father's health keeps deteriorating. seeing all the sacrifices he has made for his people and knowing he will be the one to take up the throne after his death makes him feel so... unprepared and useless, because noctis is aware he can barely function, let alone take care of himself at this point. even with that level of self-awareness and constantly wondering “what’s wrong with me”, noctis doesn’t realize (nor has the tools to know) he’s depressed. ashamed of over-relying on others, noctis refuses to reach out, even within his closest group (ignis, prompto, gladio).    - as we know, mental illnesses don't always manifest in 'tasteful' ways. depression makes him avoidant until he's forcibly backed into a corner, where he's prone to outbursts in which he finally speaks his mind. it also makes him have a tunnel vision of sorts, where he's so fixated on thinking it’s all his fault + his own suffering, he overlooks the periphery. which, for someone as kind, sensitive and empathic as him (something the game emphasizes a lot), it all later comes to make him feel extremely guilty and selfish: chapter 10 is a good example of this.    - his worst™ depressive episode comes post-altissia, his self-confidence at its lowest. destruction everywhere, luna is dead, ignis got injured in a life-altering way, and noctis feels like he can’t protect a damn thing. it’s a lot to unpack so i won’t get into it on this post, but just know he’s literally miserable, grieving, dealing with survivor’s guilt and giving it his all despite how the chemical imbalance in his brain feels like it’s trying to kill him, along ardyn and the stupid little prophecy.

all in all, his behavior is very often misunderstood as lazy and whiny, which is, uh, understandable at best and reductive at worst (mostly reductive), but. it's also heartbreaking to me, because noctis is trying his best to the energy and resolve he can physically muster. and it's still not enough.

This isn’t a dumb question! For me personally when it comes to pots the reason I need to lie down on the floor is because I’m too dizzy to stand and I start to black out

Pots causes the heart to beat so fast that it isn’t pumping any blood (before I was put on beta blockers mine used to get up into the 220s before I even started to notice it)

What I experience in particular is called Near-Syncope which is essentially all the symptoms that lead up to unconsciousness without ever actually losing consciousness!

I lie down when i feel it coming on because it’s safer than falling down and there’s really not enough places in public to sit down if you need to - and at home if i’m not within collapsing range of furniture then I’m shit outta luck

Also you aren’t wrong about trying to get a diagnosis - I was incredibly lucky with my ehlers-danlos and my pots diagnosis because my doctors were competent and trusted me to know my own body (They also, y’know, actually bothered testing me - scuse me while I side eye some other doctors I’ve seen)

I wish I knew more about fibro and rhuematic illnesses but I’m gonna be real w/ you chief, I have some p severe memory issues so I’m not any kind of authority when it comes to illnesses that I’m not living with day to day

Although one thing I can say with confidence is - It doesn’t matter which one is worse! (please read that in a positive tone!) Knowing is so much better than wondering! Again from personal experience, even if it’s something that can’t be cured you’ll have some idea of ways you can adjust your lifestyle to help alleviate symptoms - it won’t always be painless but it’s the first step to making your life even the smallest bit easier!

I can relate to people thinking I’m faking - my own brother didn’t realize that I was actually disabled until I was collapsing in front of him multiple times a day because of how much worse my heart had gotten - It took him 20 whole years and multiple doctors confirming how fucked I am for him to think I wasn’t just being dramatic - My best advice for people like that is that they don’t matter

The people who love you will try to deny you have any kind of “flaw” (Ugh, abled ppl amiright) or are in pain because it hurts them to see you that way, but with time and gentle education they’ll realize that they’re hurting you worse by denying your reality. And if they aren’t trash they’ll do better

Regardless of what other people think, you know your own life and body and mind better than they ever will, and if they try to deny your reality they’re deluding themselves for their own comfort which is just plain selfish of them

Also - GOOD LORD can I relate to people dismissing physical symptoms as the result of mental illness - I have PTSD anxiety and depression and one time I went to the doctor because I had such horrible chest pain that I couldn’t speak and ended up in the ER - When I went to my primary the nurse that came in first kept insisting that it was anxiety and questioning me about my mental health and UWU maybe its the stress UWU

Turns out my spine was so weak my ribs were collapsing!! Which the dctor who came in after her figured out in literally 3 minutes

I’m sorry you feel outcast, I can 100p relate to that too. It’s super lonely being disabled - what friends you have tend to leave you behind - family tries to “help” but they don’t understand and it puts a pressure on you to do the impossible and it isn’t fair that you have to go through any of this.

All I can really say is if you (or anyone else) need to vent to somebody who gets it I’m right here - I don’t always answer on time (I have my bad days too) but I’m here with you and I get it

before you grill me with my rankings please know that i! love! all! of! these! schools! equally! i do not hate any particular school; i am simply ranking their school spirit. this is also lowkey crack because what everyone said made me laugh and honestly i came up with this idea for the laughs. so, like, don’t take this personally.

thanks everyone who helped participate by filling out the google form!! everything you’ve said i used in this. we will be going from last place to first place, so let’s start!! btw i ranked 11 schools into 10 places, so there are two 10th placers HAHAH anywayssss

10: ITACHIYAMA, NOHEBI

Alright, so let’s start with Itachiyama. I got one person who mentioned them in my last category, which was “any other school i didn’t mention? & why” and honestly we don’t know anything about them. But perhaps the mere fact that they were winners says something I guess?

Their whole team radiates spirit, but I don’t remember if they actually have a cheering section. Unlike Wakutani, where most of their spirit/support came directly from Takeru, each one of the members of the team had their own school spirit. Their school spirit isn’t that recognizable to be remembered by most people, though.

Much apologies to the OG team. For one thing, their cheering squad, while I must admit is very impressive and loud, is not Karasuno High School itself. It’s literally coposed of a bunch of outside associations. And when their cheering section from the actual school does show up, they’re not even synchronized; they practiced for one day and called it “school spirit.” They showed up for one match and that was it.

Also Saeko coming in with a DRUM TEAM for the Inarizaki match,,, like they’re so so supportive and Karasuno’s not a rich school like Shiratorizawa, it doesn’t have a highly ranked band like Inarizaki but like the team itself they’re plucky and do the best they can with what they’ve got. ❞

6: NEKOMA

Honestly, I had a hard time choosing whether to put Karasuno or Nekoma in sixth place. I went with Nekoma because of Kuroo’s “inspirational” pep talk, which really shows the bond between each of the members of the team, but they’re still ranked pretty low because I can’t get that one scene out of my head from the manga where it’s this one match (I won’t say which one) where students from Nekoma attend the match and a couple of them go, “Wow, this is my first volleyball match that I’ve been to!” Like, dude, seriously? Wow. They also take sixth since their cheering squad, also composed of students, is led by a Nekoma Junior High student. We love supportive sisters.

I would have ranked them a little higher if it weren’t for other more spirited schools. The whole school knows how to hype up Bokuto, along with cheers of their own. The team itself knows each member so well that they’re able to adapt to whatever their ace is feeling.

Their cheering squad is so synchronized and so well-performed. They know what they’re doing and when to do things. You can tell they’re devoted. School spirit within their team is pretty strong, and they have a good bond with each other.

There’s too much to say. They’re so extra it’s unbelievable. The entire cheering section knows how to adapt to each members’ likes and dislikes, and will call others out when they need to do so. For instance, when that one guy asked the two girls not to cheer while Atsumu is serving? Absolutely wild. And when they start booing or play a tempo to throw off the opponent whenever it’s the other team’s serve? Their practice and precision really shows. It’s crazy. And I’m pretty sure that they’re the only school that brings their entire orchestra to play during the matches.

how do u make friends and become a "personality" on tumblr? i dont mean being tumblr famous, im just pretty lonely. asking u since u seem to have a few

oh gosh i’m surprised you think of me as havin friends n bein a tumblr personality! that’s kinda a compliment so ty! tho lol i might not be as popular as u think tbh? tho i guess i have an okay number of followers and the ppl i’m close to on here are SO AWESOME n i love them? BUT OKAY! i’ll tell u how i went about makin friends on tumblr! btw don’t be afraid to dm me like i’ll be your friend! i’m super shy but like rly friendly so?? ANYWAYS here’s what i did:1. be yourself even if you think ppl won’t like you. you rly shouldn’t care about the ppl who don’t like u bc they’d prob never like you? and being urself helps you feel good about yourself and is REALLY attractive to ppl who might end up following you. be real. it’s your blog, so don’t, for example, let some mean anon tell u how to run your blog.2. that doesn’t mean being insensitive tho! i’m constantly tryin to be as fuckin nice as i can within reason. and oh yeah tag stuff like “flashing” or “nsfw” or “gore” etc even if you use custom tags (i use “h” for nsfw bc i don’t wanna get flagged lol). and don’t repost stuff on here without direct permission. it’s like stealing. and don’t delete captions off of original art (but u can remove a rebloggers captions all day).3. post your own “content” whether it be text posts or pictures u took or art u make or edits or finds off other sites! even if u think it’s too dumb, i promise u there’ll be a buncha ppl who will like it. i thought my gifs were trash and then one day one wound up on tumblr’s “radar’ (or whatev it used to be called). MAKE SURE U TAG YOUR POSTS. it’s fine to not tag reblogs unless they’re something ppl are sensitive about (flashing,gore). it’s fine to just reblog other’s stuff btw like ppl still love blogs like that (that’s most of tumblr tbh).4. your follower count doesn’t matter. the number of notes on posts you make don’t matter. it’s so easy to fall into viewing those numbers as a sign of “how cool u are/how much ppl like you”. don’t start posting things u don’t care about just bc u notice ppl like it. just be yourself. ppl will come anyways.5. talk to people. write little comments on ppls posts. respond to ppl. take the risk and direct message someone (be considerate tho. like if u have a crush on someone don’t open with “i wanna fuck u” lol). if you want friends, be friendly.6. THIS IS IMPORTANT THO. tumblr is easily the shyest community i’ve ever encountered. and this is coming from someone who has agoraphobia (or rather a fear of people). even if someone follows you back and likes all your posts… they might not respond to you. THAT DOESN’T MEAN THEY HATE U OR DON’T CARE. a lot of them just… can’t? ur msg very easily made them really happy. sometimes ppl like that just need time. i won’t lie, of the hundreds of ppl i’ve tried to start conv with? maybe only 10% of them even replied. if you’re like me the voice in ur head will tell you “oh they hate you you weirded them out ur awful”. ignore that dumbass voice. that 10% who responded? or responded later? are some of my best friends on here. IT’S ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT.take the risk. talk to people. rejection can hurt, but it’s just like a little scratch compared to the gushing wound we cause ourselves by not trying. see, look at this stupid long unintelligible post i just wrote. and i somehow still have a bunch of friends and followers? i’m a huge idiot, but turns out that everybody else is too thank god. so just be yourself and have fun!oh and it takes time btw. like i’ve been active on here since 2012 lol. give people time to find u and respond to you. hope it helped even if it was just a little!
