sample in character:
“I’m telling you, Gabi, you have to visit some time.” Tori said as she puttered around the kitchen of her cramped apartment, doing her best to clean around the cat that had taken up residence in her sink. She didn’t mind the stray all that much—he seemed like a good omen, even if he was a big, black cat.
“I don’t know it’s so far away.” Her sister whined.
“Trust me, it’ll be amazing. I’ll take you to some of the super cool neighborhoods around here and I know this great little kitchen that makes the most amazing gumbo you’ll ever taste.” Tori said as she stroked the fur of the cat in the sink. “It’ll be so much fun, pleaaaaase? Please come, it’ll be so good to see you.”
“Okay, okay!” Gabi laughed. “I’ll ask Mom and Dad about it, but I’m definitely tempted.”
“Alright.” Tori smiled, tickling the cat under the chin as he purred. “Well, I should probably get to work. My client’s await.”
“Have fun!  Have fun predicting the torrid love affairs of the locals!” Gabi sang.
“It’s not always love affairs!” Tori protested but laughed all the same. “Bye, love you!” She said and hung up the phone. She flicked through her calendar as she idly scratched at the cat’s head, checking to see who her appointments for the day were. As Victoria read up on her client’s profiles, the cat hissed suddenly and swatted at her hand, drawing blood with its claws.
“Ouch!” She cried out, pulling her hand back, staring at the suddenly annoyed cat. Troubled, Tori grabbed her bag from where it sat by the window and put her crystal necklace on.  So many people had told her that it was silly to believe in the power of crystals, but the idea of purity and protection was definitely appealing to her, given some of the less than stellar things she had seen in some of her visions.
“See ya later, crazy.” Tori murmured as she headed out of her apartment towards her shop. As she walked towards her shop, a strange feeling of unease settled around her. It didn’t make any sense why—the only thing she was wearing was something of hers. Unless something bad was going to happen to her? Surely… surely she would have received some sort of vision sooner?
As she neared the door to her shop, she noticed passerby’s whispering in hushed tones, some of them glancing back behind them. And as she approached, she saw why.
“No…” Tori gasped, clasping her hands over her mouth. Glass, shards of glass littered the front sidewalk of her shop and there was a trail of destruction inside. Decorations had been obliterated by the path of the object that had been hurled in through the front window, now shattered on the floor.  Tori unlocked the door and ran inside, tears welling up as she tried to sort through the wreckage. Picture frames had been knocked over and—
Tori stared, wide-eyed, at the brick that lay in the middle of the mess. A paper was wrapped around the center, very clearly a message from whoever had sent the brick soaring through her front window. She reached out with shaking hands and pulled the piece of paper off, staring at the message. “I know what you really are. Pack your bags and leave or I’ll expose the truth.” She whispered. A shiver went down her spine as she stared out the window. Whoever was out there, they knew. They knew and she was… she was dead. All of her work, all of the time she’d spent scraping money together, the sleepless nights where she worried whether or not it would all work out… All for nothing.
Tori bit her lip and hurried into the backroom of her shop and collapsed onto the chair she used for her fortune telling. The second the door was closed behind her, she burst into tears, sobbing for the death of her dream.
Canon Character Information:
character name: Victoria “Tori” Hernandez
sexuality: Bisexual
major: N/A (Preselected as Business)
hero name (if up to roleplayer): N/A
secondary choice: Logan Reynolds
why this character?: I was intrigued by the fact that I haven’t really seen too many over-achieving characters who experience burn out, which is a very relatable topic to me. I also found her backstory for wanting to go to SkyU interesting because she doesn’t want to be a hero/hero support, she just wants to learn how to blend in better!
headcanons:
Even though she can predict the future and understands how genetics and science plays a roll into things, Tori is very much a spiritualist. She uses crystals, incense, and other seemingly “witchy” objects not only for the fortune-telling aesthetic, but because she genuinely believes that they have some form of power.
New Orleans is Tori’s dream destination; she honestly can’t imagine ever living anywhere else because it is a place that is so incredibly unique and strange.
One of her more unorthodox interests that runs counter to the hippy vibe that she often gives off is the fact that she is incredibly serious about accomplishing whatever task it is that she sets her mind to, whether it be dance, soccer, or even one of her more recent interests, which is mechanics.
Tori bought and repaired her own motorcycle when she left New Mexico. It was something that she always wanted and it represented the freedom that she craved. It’s been with her through thick and thin and she treasures it dearly.
additional connections?: None that I can think of! anything else?: None!
