Watching Spike at Buffy's party in Older and Far Away and thinking about when characters act all nympho because it's easier to act like you just want sex instead of love or attention. Spike's skulking about and pestering her like he's desperate for a quick shag under the stairs and like I'm sure he genuinely is lol and wants a shot of the electric back massager BUT I think bigger picture he'd just looove her to like acknowledge their situation even in the shadowy vicinity of others. Like it'd make it so much more real for him. Sneaking around is hot and all but I feel like he's also playing up sex crazed machismo in this ep because he wants to matter and get attention and properly exist in her life. He does this in general in s6 of course to get intimacy and I think that's also interesting in terms of how things sadly culminate in this season

the thing about spike is that he's such a rat man, such a pathetic, horrible freak, but james marsters is so charismatic that even when he's at his worst, he's got something interesting to him, and then of course at some point spike's development is such that he'll say things like "made a promise to a lady" in order to explain why he's helping the good guys at high risk of death and it's so very casually heroic and chivalrous, and he'll collapse to the ground and sob into his hands when buffy dies, and you can see how that was there the whole time, but twisted by all his anger and a lifetime with drusilla (who herself was twisted into her shape by angel), so you just can't help but root for him to become a hero of some kind

ok but we seriously needed more episodes about versions of the main characters as vampires. Vampire Cordelia could have been so much fun! Vampire Tara would have been sooo tragic and terrifying. Vampire Giles would have been a good way to explore more Ripper Giles. Vampire Faith trying to turn Buffy. Vampire Dawn!!!!!!!

One of the funniest jokes in the Buffy episode "Once More With Feeling" is that when the Scooby Gang busts in and sees Buffy singing under compulsion from the spell and fighting demons, Giles goes, "She needs backup! Anya! Tara!" And instead of helping her fight or anything like that they stand behind her and start backup singing and dancing for her. And I crack up every time I see that but I also think it's fun if, diegetically, Giles was like "Oh no, Buffy is having her big, explosive, 11 o' clock number. If she has to bear the brunt of this musical number alone it *will* kill her before we can resolve this," (since dying of combustion if you sing too much for too long is the threat of the episode). And having Anya and Tara provide backup vocals was actually a magically effective way to shift some of the burden off of Buffy.

Listen I’m not saying it’s healthy but if I had severe daddy issues and an erratic absentee mother who ignored everything that was happening with me or was overbearing and controlling and I watched one ex bf lie about meeting up with HIS ex and then have to watch him get back with said ex and then we get back together only for him to abandon me and fall in love with the girl I always felt insecure about around him and him not tell me and pretend he’s still hung up on me when he has FOR SURE moved on and another ex that cheated on me with sex workers and then blamed me and dramatically and immediately abandoned me too AND THEN at 20 the super hot guy I have been having sex dreams about but never in a million years thought could be an actual option is like “I love you and I’m willing to go against everything I used to be and kill the previous love of my life who is the ex your ex lied to you about to show you how committed to this and loving you I am just for a glimmer of a hope of a chance of a possibility this might happen and you’ll admit it’s not just me feeling these things” I’d be like this is my soulmate actually this is the exact sort of deranged dedicated devotion I need after being neglected and abandoned CONSTANTLY you are perfect for me come here baby girl
