Duct tape is the quintessentially American tool, because it gets more credit than it deserves, and in reality it’s pretty mediocre. It leaves residue all over the place, sometimes sweats the adhesive through the backing, and the adhesive disintegrates into powder after a couple years.

You’d think it was used on ducts, but no, that’s actually against code. They use a foil-backed tape for that, with a much better adhesive. You’d think the military uses it, but no, they use “100 MPH” tape, which holds up much better. I think the film industry even uses something similar called “gaffer’s tape”.

Caleb feeling hopeless and defeated for the very first time when thinks he's lost Mollymauk--when his spell fails, when all his magic isn't enough, when he pours his whole heart and soul into this desperate wish to heal, and he can still do nothing to save Molly's shattered soul.

no no i get you it is kind of ridiculous that its something we gotta end up resorting to in the end... it IS sad to look back on like origins and da2 and remember how dragon age was founded on really being able to explore a lot of avenues with your character and face those consequences, there was that shift with inquisition that seems they only want to do very narrow constraints on their mcs now... i remember andromeda feeling the same way. if i had to pinpoint why its happening it feels like in a lot of big name rpgs now they fall into that marvel cinematics universe "you can't portray any of the star heros in a bad light" kind of trap

I don't think it's an industry-wide trend or anything though, especially in Bioware's case; it's just the direction they want to take, having tighter storytelling without the protagonist delineating too much from their intentions

Looking back at Origins lately myself yeah it's a hard pill to swallow. If its any consolation, I try to remember what Mike Laidlaw once said about DA:

Jack and Mai's dynamic have 3 sides

#1. Teacher - Student: Jack teaches her the ways of the samurai. She learns how to attack, to defend herself, and to "jump good"

#2. Father - Daughter: He takes care of her as if she was a child of his own. He always gives food, shelter and comfort to the little creature

#3. Besties: Mai is a 8 year old whose life was devoid of any (positive) social interactions and Jack is a 25 year old who spent his whole childhood and teenage years on training to be a warrior. When they're together they just share 1 braincell that goes play

Extra: There have been instances where #2 is inverted. Something happens to Jack and Mai's the one who becomes all motherly and takes care of him 😭❤️

One thing I find really hilarious to think about sometimes is just how much older/younger a lot of the real-life Expedition crew members were compared to their fictional counterparts.

Like, 25 year-old Goodsir, anyone? Or 27 year-old Collins for that matter?

26 year-old Bridgens and 37 year-old Peglar? Ludicrous!

On the one hand, it blows my mind a little bit that I'm currently the same age as the likes of Fitzjames and Le Vesconte.

But on the other hand, I look at all of my male contemporaries - God's Perfect Idiots to a man - and think "Aw shit, yeah, it all makes sense now! Men are just fuckin' like that, huh?"
