hi anon! hoo boy i definitely have a few! here are some favourites that come to mind:

Unbroken by thedreadslayer

nobody is surprised, yall know i'm a slut for this fic as i've drawn fanart for it multiple times (and still have doodles and full ass comic pages that i haven't shared to tumblr).

This is THE ellabs fic in my mind. The character moments, the dialogue, the settings, the atmosphere... the slowburn is SO well-written. it is basically tlou 3 for me because reading it really captures the feeling of playing the actual games 😭😭 still ongoing but so many chapters to enjoy. There are SO many great key moments (don't want to spoil, but i'm looking at you chapters 10, 17, 21 and 26), but even the small, quiet interactions stand out to me. have admittedly re-read it more than once,,, maybe more than twice,,,

two hands digging in each other's wounds by michirukaioh

i believe this was the first ellabs fic i've read!! and it is a classic. Love this one for the progression of the ellabs relationship, but also for dear sweet lev and his interactions with ellie. Love the big reveals towards the end of the story with a new character that is introduced - keeping it vague because of spoilers. And the beach scene near the end is chef's kiss iykyk.

i've admittedly not been keeping up well with the sequel because i've been super busy and wanted to marathon the whole thing at some point, but would recommend checking it out too! both parts are complete :)

really interesting premise where abby and lev show up in Jackson at the start of the story and we see how all the survivors of tlou2 deal with the fallout. the continuation of the use of abby's dreams as a manifestation of her trauma/guilt was also interesting to me. starts pretty dark and gets even darker as we move further in the story, but still very good all the same. sadly idk if the story will be continued :( one can hope

AU where ellie leaves Jackson after finding out the truth about the FireFlies from Joel and stumbles into Seattle. i LOVE this concept so much and this was such an interesting read. we get some nice early ellabs moments, and also get to see ellie interact with the Salt Lake Crew. sadly another fic which i don't think will be finished, but very much still worth checking out!!

so i figured she'd go with a suit-ish look, with a flair that brings out her whimsical personality- skirt or pants don't matter but she'd def wear a bowtie LMAO I also see her a little colour-blind (both figuratively and literally) and can tend to lean into garish patterns

for Chrysalis, i imagine she has all these ooooooooold gowns from the past hundred years that are rotting in her closet- i like to imagine her formal fashion sense to be a weird mash of anything an elf wears in Lord of the Rings and dark palette with bit of a gothic flair

Alright, so most of my moots and followers may not know this but I'm an affiliate streamer on Twitch. I stopped for awhile because I just wasn't feeling it and the big reason why is that I didn't have my vtubing model and things like that. Oh, and here's my twitch if y'all wanna follow before the reboot goes underway. I'll be doing chatting and playing a variety of games. Probably most recently will be a new fresh run of FE3H where I will finally romance Dimitri. Only one I haven't done yet specifically so I could play it on twitch. 🤣

Secondly, I really want to do two segments for Twst. Originally I thought that I would just play the game on twitch. But unfortunately it's not really a streamable game. Not in a fun way. So that brought me to my secondary options.

To help support the test fandom, I'm considering the following segments:

A fanart sharing series where I find the fanarts that really spoke to me. I will also send out, a day prior, the reminder to send in the arts y'all really love (of all time, not just within the week). I plan to make a form so that you can send the link as well as your information. You can be anonymous, just tell me in the submission. There will also be a section for you to write out your thoughts on the fanart that you would like to be read out on the stream.

And a fanfic series that follows along the same line. There would just be two forms to answer (optional). The first, the same comment section. The second, a section to put the parts that you really loved (without spoilers) and then I can read those snippets of the fic.

As a note, you will need to reach out to the author/artist and ask them for permission to have their creation featured in my streams. I will need screenshot proof of their permission, and there will be a place for it to be included in the form.

And once all the recs for those segments will finalize with a poll on all the stuff we looked at. For writing, the winner of the poll will get their fic read (as long as pg13 or lower) at the end of the stream. (I will sometimes push one to another week so that I can also feature some of my own fics from time to time).

Lastly, I was also considering doing a writing advice segment where I give advice on writing from my own experience along with examples within my own writing or, perhaps, others when they have perfect examples of what I'm talking about. I will also set up a form so that you guys can send in questions. I won't answer them from the chat as that can get too confusing and this is much better. (And if I run out of questions, I'll then open it to the chat and answer as I get them in. (Obviously some will be missed and that can't be helped. Just give it like ten fifteen minutes and send it again. If it's really imperative, just send the form and you're guaranteed an answer, it just might take longer.)

I would also like to have a vlog that documents my journey in writing my novel. I think it could help me keep on track. I'll periodically share little segments I'm really proud of and things like that. As well as talk about the struggles and how I'm working to overcome them. And ofc answer questions. But that one would be a casual in-the-moment q&a.

I feel like there was more I was chewing on. I do know that I want to do ASMR. It's always been a important tool in my life and I've always wanted to be an ASMR artist. I'm excited because I don't think many of those artists use a vibe model and so I think that will definitely give me a leg up as far as uniqueness. Just hope it goes well lol. I'm trying all kinds of experimental things and am so excited.

Oooh we could do a smash or pass or tier ranking. Or a meme hour where we share our favorite nerd memes no matter the fandom. (Though mine will mostly be Twst and FE3H LMAO)

But yeah so lots to think on. I will probably have a re-intro vlog. Maybe 2 Get to Know me types where I talk about where I wanna take my stream and also answer y'all's questions. And we can discuss other stuff y'all wanna see.

Oh and forgot. I will also be doing a FFXIV (i think that's the right one.) Whatever the MMORPG that's currently running for final fantasy. And we'll start with character creation and y'all will create our character we'll follow through the game. Y'all can make fanfic or fanart about them if ya like and memes and stuff and I'll share on the stream at some point.

Arc 1 - Bonds

My assorted commentary on the first chapter of Pact for my mutuals who were interested in my thoughts. Testing out formatting this might be mess thank you for your patience.

This is technically my second time reading this but I wasn't paying attention the first time so I wanted to start over

First of all. Icon. I absolutely love wretched old women and I love having the foresight of knowing practitioners cant lie meaning that this is presumably an objective evaluation of her children's capabilities. I'm also gonna watch out for Blake's mom and Aunt Stephanie though. They aren't included in that statement so maybe we can have an evil magic milf era. Like in Umineko. I love Umineko.

If anything I’d said had an impact, it was that. I could see the faint amusement drop away from her. “Are you accusing me of being a liar, Master Blake?”

It was well after dark when someone stepped outside to talk to me. I closed out of the puzzle game I was playing on my phone. The brightness of the screen made for a dark patch that lingered in my vision as I looked up. Eleven-fifty at night.

This is an interesting writing choice because it's clear that a lot of time has passed but not exactly how much. Which adds mystery to the question of "was Rose planned all along or did Rose Sr. make an impulse choice after talking with Blake.

Also I really wanna know. When Rose met Ivy did her parents bring her in and talk or did they just set the baby on the bed and leave.

“Molly! Don’t be rash!” Aunt Irene admonished her. “I don’t want it,” Molly said, again. She grabbed the footboard of the bed. “No.“ “Molly, don’t be silly.”

Molly is one of the biggest reasons I don't want spoilers. Everything about her is so interesting. She was the first choice but she died very quickly. But not THAT quickly. Was Rose 2 always the plan and Molly was the sacrificial lamb to pave the way or was Molly just genuinely the best choice to become heiress. She survived for four months which is, if Pact is paced similarly to Worm, long enough to survive Leviathan, The Slaughterhouse Nine, Coil, and Echidna or whatever their equivalent in Pact land is. And that is no small feat. Like obviously I'm assuming here but I can't imagine the combined forces of Jacobs Bell were just letting her chill. I have so many questions about her and I want answers to none of them.

The blonde woman opposite him folded her hands in front of her. “That was… noteworthy in scale. Kind of her to point the way, but she was never crude. We’ll need to know what she did before we move on.”

Now see Johannes I would love to give you the benefit of the doubt however I know for a fact (a pact fact!) I have not seen any fanart of you making out sloppy style with Blake Thorburn and as such I find it hard to believe you are his ally. The wildbow ecosystem is too yaoi deprived to not jump on that pairing unless you're some type of fucked up.

My friends were artists and artistic types. I had the unfortunate distinction of being a less than stellar artist. But I’d owed them for the help and support they’d given me, and in helping them with their jobs, I’d stumbled onto a bit of work. Setting up their work, installations, as well as all the other grunt jobs. Sure, they could go to a carpenter to get something put together in the way of a display stand, but that carpenter wouldn’t necessarily know what was at play with the art. Along the way, I’d settled into being a go-to handyman and delivery guy in the local art community. I knew the gallery owners, I knew who was who, and if I couldn’t do a job myself, I knew who to call. Not so glamorous or fancy, not exactly stellar pay, but I had stupid little skills that I could use here. In a pinch, I could use my stride or my arm length to help me figure out measurements, thirty three and a half and thirty-two and a half inches, respectively.

So fun fact I was a gallery tech assistant for about three or four years in high school and I would just like the record to state. A. Wildbow you captured the gallery tech mentality exactly. Tired, sassy, and overall filled with peculiar useful skills. 100% accuracy rate.

Also Blake please call your friends sooner rather than later. The blond gallery tech who works for cheap going suddenly missing is going to DEVASTATE that community. Blake you are a protected species under the wildlife conservation act and the human equivalent of catnip for bisexuals with an art history degree you are the foundation of that community and they are going to be CONCERNED

Which by the way. If Blake and Rose are fucked up twins of a sort. I have questions about Paige and Peter. Especially seeing as Paige is considered a non starter for Rose Senior

I just started listening to the magnus archives for the first time (shoutout to @regulus-needs-swimminglessons for draging me into it), I'm at episode 5 and made the mistake of searching TMA up on Pinterest, because I wanted to know how Johnathan Sims looked like, other than "tired".

Well, I did more or less get an answer to that, but only after beeing spoilered very hard (expected that) and beeing very very confused...

The following will have said spoilers and confusion and random other stuff, so be warned for that I guess.

The answer to my question how John looks like was only "more or less answered" because there are some very different versions... which I guess was to be expected since there are multiple seasons and characters change, but still. One looks like my old physics Prof, the other is a middle-aged person who never left their long-haired not-quite-punk teenage-self in the past (good for him, I like the style), and the last is the same but has way to many eyes for my liking...

And:

That comment under a fanart of the first episode kinda confirmed my suspicion.

I loved episode two, just for the fact that someone in the first time in forever actually listened when beeing told not to open something.

The main moral out of episode 3 was be gay, eat your old notebooks? (And "keep watching", but that didn't work out now, did it?) I also thought that the not-graham-thing could be a skinwalker, but then it woukd be better at looking like Graham, wouldn't it?

Episode 4, I heard the name Jurgen Leitner for the first time in the podcast an was immediately annoyed. Friend mentioned above did a great job of making me hate the guy before even starting the podcast 😂

Cinder's Racial Ambiguity Frustrates Me (Spoilers for The Lunar Chronicles)

Hi hello long time no post! I haven't had a chance to really consumed any media until just recently so I'm finally back with another review!

Today we're gonna talk about The Lunar Chronicles, written by Marissa Meyer, and published in 2012. I had read this novel back in 2015/2016 when Fairest and Winter were newly released and had the opportunity to reread it (albeit in audiobook form) these past few months. Buckle up babes, I have a lot to say.

I wanna just say right off the bat that in terms of world-building, plot, and even character design, this story still holds up quite well from when I read it the first time. From how each character gets their own time to shine and development, to how they all connect with one another, I loved seeing the major plot unfold and how it concluded so nicely.

But I do want to discuss something that has bothered me from the first time that I read this series and still does after reading it a second time: Cinder's race.

Now you may be wondering, why do we care what Cinder's race is? Well, I'm Asian, Singaporean to be specific. And it would be great if Cinder's race was Asian/Chinese as the website, as the author, and as most people in the fandom believe to be. However, I am skeptical for this to be the case at all.

We don't know what race(s) the Lunars are.

They're an "evolved" race of humans that have magical abilities. Even Meyer herself states that the ethnicities start to blend because it's so far in the future. It's already quite difficult to pinpoint specific ethnic groups just in the royal family.

Queen Channary had olive skin and dark brown hair which could be a myriad of ethnicities and races although I'm heavily inclined to believe that she is/was South/Southeast Asian due to her name being taken from the Khmer dialect found in Cambodia [evidently in the wiki]. Even Queen Jannali was described to have had tan skin and chestnut colored hair, which again, says nothing about her race, but her name was taken from the Aboriginal language [also found on the wiki] so that may count for,,, something. Essentially, following Cinder's lineage, we already have little evidence to support the idea that Cinder is Asian, let alone Chinese.

Cinder's description in the book did not help her case (and I believe Meyer attempted to retcon this later on, like, look at the new covers - she looks so [East] Asian, but then you read the description in the actual book??).

Her first description in Cinder was tan skin, angular body, and mousy brown hair. Mousy implies, light brown. Literally look up "mousy brown hair" online, you'll see a bunch of eurocentric, white women. No Asian that I know, naturally, has "mousy" brown hair unless you dye it or it is heavily sun-bleached (which has happened to me but still not light enough to be considered "mousy", I could have safely called it brown). Cinder was also told by the end of the book, that she was found in Europe. You can see that as someone who's been wanting an Asian MC would be disappointed with finding out that ah, she must be European (and later, more than likely, French). Even if Cinder was Wasian, I believe genetically, the dark hair would have been dominant. I can't say the same for the tan skin since she was outdoors a lot and Asian folks do tan quite easily in the sun and remains tanned for at least 6-8 months.

I would love for Cinder to be Asian, I really would, but all of this evidence just keeps her race too ambiguous personally. I can't seem to get over the "mousy brown hair". If not for this particular descriptor, I would 100% believe Cinder to be Asian. But because we don't even know Channary or Jannali's race with only their names as some kind of clue to Cinder's background, we will never know for sure.

I don't think it helps that a majority of fanart I see of Cinder has very eurocentric features, which draws me back to her thinking she's French/European. It also bothers me that while Winter and Iko get rather well-written descriptions of what they look like (aka black), we can't seem to get one good description, showing some form of Asian representation that I'm sure many of us are grasping at straws for, of the main character of the series. So many of us are still hoping that Cinder is Asian simply because she's living in New Beijing (which I will be making another post at some point about how I, personally believe, is a poorly designed/created city in terms of world-building) but she's literally adopted from Europe (Luna if you wanna get technical, see the first point).

I know my points are kind of moot and there wasn't much warrant for me to go on a tirade about a fictional character created in 2012. But this is important to me as a WOC, as an Asian girlie who so wants to connect to a character that looks like me, that was written to look like me; but I feel cheated and the ambiguity makes it hard for me to fully love Cinder as much as I love the other characters (if anyone is asking, my favorite characters are Winter and Scarlet). If anyone else has thoughts about this or has something to prove to me once and for all that Cinder is Asian. Please send it my way.

PS I wish I had a physical copy to directly quote the book, but again, my second reread was through audiobooks, so I can't reference pages at all atm. Sorry about that TuT Hopefully I can get my hands on a copy from the library soon so I can edit this post with direct lines.

Okay, been taking my time getting through Veilguard, I just recently redid my entertainment setup in my room so I can play my PS5 in there, and then I also wanted to get caught up in FFXIV's 7.1 patch MSQ.

Early spoiler thoughts

Okay so I originally designed my Mercar Rook to be a Sports Butch She/They. Very excited that Erika Ishii is one of the fem Rook voices.

Romance pick for first run: Lace Harding, because I thought she was sweet in Inquisition, love her voice actress, and I love her whole vibe in general. Also we finally get to romance a Dwarf character.

I see the appeal of Lucanis, but he's like a beautiful cat to me. I just wanna admire & pet him. I'm worried that Davrin is gonna suffer the fandom neglect like Wyll did. He's a great character, and seems like one of those rough types with a heart of gold that's probably worth earning. Also, like Scratch, I will pet Assan every time I pass by him in the Lighthouse. :3 Emmrich is a sweet and darling old man, and my first Rook is a Mage who is chill with Necromancy and thinks Manfred is a delight.

As for the Ladies, I kinda went over Harding. In-lore, Rook has been working with Varric and Harding for a period of time prior to this whole mess, so the previous familiarity makes romancing Harding feel easier. Neve is great.... Great design, I just wanna listen to her and admire her. I would also take up the challenge of romancing her, even though I know hers blooms late-game. But I also hear her canon pairing if not romanced is with Lucanis, and that chemistry is very exciting to watch. Bellara is a delight!!!! I wish she was my IRL friend, she is so sweet and fun!!! I'd love to romance her in a future playthrough!!! And finally, I just met Taash, and I appreciate that she's a big buff lady who has Special Interest.

The ENTIRE CAST is A++ on their designs. Amazing designs, I am mentally playing with their unique little features & trinkets they wear. Like Bellara's triangle-themed jewelry and armor?? I am mentally fidgeting with that.

The Triple Click podcast did an episode with their mid-game thoughts on Veilguard, and Kirk posed an observation and theory that I've taken on myself. Rot13 for this spoiler since I don't want anyone else going slow like me to learn this accidentally:

hi!! i just wanted to let you know that i started reading cherry magic in july last year after seeing the anime announced on toyota-sensei's twitter! i couldn't even rlly translate the announcement myself without the help of google translate LMAO but her illustration of them looked so sweet i had to snoop around. more than half a year later. i am no longer normal and my brain is fully rotted over and i think of those two nearly every waking moment!! your art, along with so many others feeds me and your translations are So Appreciated thank you for doing gods work. i usually don't get super involved in fandom or w/e other than consuming fanart or fics so the fact i find myself actually drawing them is so new to me...idk cherry magic really is so refreshing and it's just nice as an adult to see a mature relationship between two working adults. there are callbacks to childhood or childlike behaviors or interests sprinkled throughout the manga's dialogue and i always appreciated how they weren't seen as embarrassing or immature to embrace or learn from as an adult, but encouraged or seen as a valuable part of balancing work, life, and love. idk it's def one of the more subtle and less expanded upon parts of it but i love how adachi's and kurosawa's love of manga, though seen as a children's activity (from how kurosawa thought people saw it) was actually one of their first mutual hobbies. it's also interesting to see how many things about kurosawa's psyche are remnants of ideas probably for a lack of better wording, were taught to him from an early age. his self-image, how he tries to uphold certain societal standards, etc etc. im glad he found refuge in adachi that way. im sorry for rambling for so long but i've just been thinking about these two so much ldks

anon pls u never have to apologize for rambling abt my fav guys of all time, u should actually talk w me about them more i want to hear ur thoughts !! the eng speaking fandom isnt that big (or at least i dont get to interact w a lot of ppl personally) but its fun making art and doing the translations for my blorbos so im happy other ppl enjoy it too 🥺

and yess everything u said abt the childlike/immature stuff krdc enjoy like the fact that their interest in manga and stuff is never made fun of or anything (which would be ironic anyway since theyre In a manga themselves fdkjskf) but actually one of the things that gets them closer is So good augh?? (also spoilers for the radio drama if u havent seen it yet, but to me one of the best changes they made was changing the port scenes setting to an anime con instead like Yeah!! theyre little nerd guys of course theyd attend a con!!!! that plus how they both like watching animated movies and playing games too like its a very specific thing to Me but that relatability w stuff i do myself makes them both feel a lot more human? if that makes sense)

also w kurosawas whole deal its Definitely a longterm thing hes had for a while, and in canon its mostly been his friendships/relationships that affected him (probs the most clear in ch45 my beloved) but from the way the meeting w his parents went theres for sure a lot of parental/family pressure involved too?? this is going into hc territory but i have like a whole Thing brewing in my head about kurosawas and maris relations w their parents and how that affected their self image and all growing up too and i rlly wanna make stuff for it someday (idk if anyone would be interested but id probably do it regardless so fkdjksjfk)
