Okay we haven’t seen the other mob vote mobs yet, but as someone who’s entire in-game persona is a weird little plant dude and who decorates my entire base with as many plants as possible and just built a whole underground room dedicated to looking like a lab for studying plants, I’m already a little biased toward the Sniffer. It find seeds! For new plants??? Plant friend????
#tbh I'm also a weird little plant dude irl too at this point#i can't wait to see the other two mobs#and instantly love both of them as well#and end up being like pls mojang just give us all three#that's what I did last time lol#I voted copper golem but it was such a hard choice for that vote#lee speaks#minecraft#minecraft live 2022

While the pre-show goes on I wrote down my thoughts on the mob vote legitimately just because I’ve gotten a temporary Twitter account just the vote. Y’all can vote for whatever you want, these are my thoughts, the usual disclaimer stuff. I know I’ve said stuff advocating for the allay but in the end, the choice is always y’all’s.
The Glare
The glare is ADORABLE,,,, I love it a lot, it’s just this little dude that shows you dark places that hostile mobs can spawn in which is pretty useful!
But… it isn’t really.
I would’ve legitimately had a hard time deciding between the glare and the allay if the mob spawning changes didn’t exist. And, I actually did, until I double checked the changes. If the glare were a choice for previous updates or if the mob spawning change didn’t exist, it would’ve probably been the best choice for everyone considering how Bedrock players don’t have F3.
However, it only pathfinds towards dark areas which are already visible to the player, and it only gets grumpy at light level 0, which imo is already very obvious it needs to be lit up, rendering it probably the most useless mob in the vote. Cuteness would probably be 10/10, but I’m thinking long term because this is a permanent addition to the game.
The Allay
The mob I’m voting for. This little dude has the cuteness of the glare and the function to back it up! You can give it an item and it’ll collect dropped items, which makes it like a mini hopper that picks up 1 kind of dropped items exclusively! I believe this also applies to unstackables, which opens up the possibility of it being used in sorting systems including non-stackable items.
It’s also useful when collecting items, like when you’re mining and your inventory’s full of ores and you don’t have space to pick up cobble, or when you’re building high up and items fall off the side of your building area onto the floor to despawn. It can and will collect it as long as you gave it the item previously!
The Copper Golem
I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan. I just don’t find it quite as cute as the glare and the allay and while it is more useful than the glare, it doesn’t come close the the allay. It’s made with copper, which is honestly quite an expensive material, particularly if you build with it. And, it’s only real use is to push copper buttons, essentially acting as a randomiser. Thing is, these already exist in the game, you can make them with droppers or chickens and they’d likely be as compact. Plus, those randomisers would be permanent, as opposed to the golem which oxidises over time (I’m assuming you can’t wax them).
I don’t even think randomisers are that common to warrant basically another redstone component that’s dedicated for it? I’m thinking back to observers because block change detection can be used in all sorts of mechanisms but there are so many redstone machines that have no need for a randomiser. If Mojang decided to add it in as a mob without the vote, I would’ve been okay with it, but I don’t think it’s worth giving up the allay for.

twitter becomes literally unusable during the mob vote (not that it’s particularly useable in the first place but this is Worse) but I want to talk about it now that all the mobs have been revealed. I wasn’t sure at first what I was voting, but with the final mob out now, I’m 100% sure I’m voting copper golem at this point. reasons being;
- my builder brain immediately heard copper button and was like. new button 👀?? new building/detailing material?? potentially can also oxidize so maybe four new buttons?? the only mob adding something other than just a mob??
- ngl it’s the only one that looks like a minecraft mob to me. I mean I know the allay is basically a passive vex but I still don’t like the design lmao.. sorry allay enjoyers. I was really not into the first two designs (esp the allay.. once again sorry allay enjoyers) so when this one came out I was super into it
- this one is self explanatory but more uses for copper, I love copper but you really can’t do enough with it yet
- yes I know it’s debatable if the copper golem has a “use”, but.. considering the changes to mob spawning the glare doesn’t really either, and honestly I question how useful the allay can actually be. when I thought the allay duped items I was pretty on board (aside from thinking it might be a little overpowered), but finding out it just picks up items of a certain type it seems.. limitedly useful at best. we don’t know how much it can carry but I have to assume it’s not that much? and we also don’t know how long it takes to collect items? I saw it proposed as a solution to getting your items when you die (admittedly not an issue for me since I either play with keepinv or in hardcore) but I don’t think that works since the impression I got was that you have to give it a specific item for it to bring that same thing back, not just it collects any item no matter what you give it. it’s use seems basically just “if you go mining it can bring back all the blocks that won’t fit in your inventory” but considering strip mining is dead that also seems?? eh.. I will admit allay still seems like the most useful out of the three but they’re all pretty limited in their use.
- I just like him.. just a lil guy.. just a guy that likes to press buttons what’s not to love
I do think just based on what I’m seeing that allay will win and, like, for all my complaining about it I honestly still do think it’s a good choice. I think I’d be happy with any of these mobs, and I do hope they’ll eventually be added as well (mojang has said that all mobs from the mob votes are intended to be added eventually and the votes are just which get added first, but considering we haven’t seen anything on that front yet it’s hard to say). no matter what wins, I’m very excited for minecraft live, and for the future of the game! I really can’t wait until one of these little guys is added :]
#minecraft#I have not made a post about minecraft in a hot second but goddamn I love this game#I really hope we get more neutral mobs for mob votes as well#neutral mob gang
