Is there still time to say everything you wanted to for so long?
Bruno finds himself in a situation he feared one day would come: Daniela leaves Encanto - only for a few months though - and she still doesn't know the truth. The truth he's been holding very close to his chest for years now.

Rules: Game: Add 10 gifs from your favorite shows and tag 10 people.
I was tagged by @godmerlin Thank ya so much! SOO
My love! My favorite! I adore you so much! Merlin until recently was a show I would rewatch every year. THEN one of my RP servers when down for months and my mind was like HEY YOU NEED DOPAMINE KNOW THAT SHOW? It's a special intrest now. Merlin and Arthur were always my favs. But I read two merthur fanfics, realized hey this actually worked, watched the show with new eyes, decided to write a small oneshot. And then It was not a one shot, And then there was a sequal and a prequal... then I was writing more stuff! This show showed me I could write again after a long time thinking I could not.
My second favoirite show is Avatar the Last Airbender I guess and my fav character is actually Aang. I like his nonconfrontationalness I kinda also have that trait and you do not often see it in fiction.
(Now from here on out they don't really have an order?
I really like the show The Tudors. I don't require historical accuricy in shows about the time period that is a special interst to me. I can enjoy the shows seperatly and be like that did not happen! But the tudors is weard because it is very much NOT historicaluy accurate as a whole but somtimes, Dialouge and scenes are pretty much ripped from the firsthand acounts of the period. This is also the show were both Natalie Dormer and Henry Cavill got their start. Fun fact Katie McGrath was actually working on costume design on this show and someone told her she should try acting. She got a very small role in the show then went on to land Morgana in Merlin. ALSO this show makes me cry so MUCH
I didn't get into Shadow and Bone on my first try. After season two aired I tried is again with a freind of mine and loved it. I'm so upset it was canceled!
With Brigerton I actually started with the Spin off Queen Charlotte (I'm counting spin offs and their original show as the same show usually so I can have more shoes listed here WHEEEE.) Anyhoo Queen Charlotte won me over with it having a romantic male lead with mental Ilness. and I enjoyed it! So I watched Brigerton too. Eloise is pretty much teenage me.
The boys and Gen V got me with its plot and commantary on American society. Alright it kinda helps that I've never really liked the idea of super heros. This is pretty much the only superhero media I consume along with one animated show my sister had me watch once. My favorite from the original Series is Hughie and my fav from Gev V is Jordan.
Okay so yeah! Dr Who. I stopped watching shortly after 11 left and came back for 14 and 15. My fav doctors are 11 and 15 so far! I adore Martha and Donna the best.
So The Last Kingdom was a show that my freind really liked and we watched together. I hated Uhtred in season 1 but came to enjoy him later. I LOVED These two in the gif, I WAS HERE FOR THEM SHIPPING THEM IN THE LAST SEASON. You know how that turned out if you watch the show. I have never hated on a character as much as I did on a certain king. THEM. <3
I am very much enjoying House Of The Dragon. I was a GOT fan until the end season even if it started going downhil before that. No I am not team black or team green. I can see both viewpoints. So I'm just here to watch people freak out over it. And enjoy it myself. And Cheer for Healana while waiting in dred due to having read the book it's based on. I'm upset the seem to have gotten rid of Nettles though.
Derry Girls is the show on this list I watched most recently. I did not really like the first episode but from there I adored them all. Clare and Orla are my Favs. But the entire cast is great.

It's been quiet for some time, Leonard had noticed — not unlike the time he spent in the forest. It left him feeling some way he couldn't exactly tell. Was it unease? Possible loneliness? Either one was a feeling he hadn't expected to come back in such a way, but similarly, again, it had dug up a familiar memory of the forest...
Having finished tending to the small bonfire where he sat, Leonard's shoulders dropped and his head leaned back. For the first time since his pact — since meeting Seere — he wished he could be relieved of his blindness if only to confirm he wasn't alone as he thought he was.
The bonfire's warmth kept him comfortable, at least, as did the hope of the momentary thought that echoed throughout his mind: Time would tell.
//So this isn't an easy decision, but after a couple weeks of mulling it over, I've decided to put this blog into semi-permanent hiatus - basically, if things change either with the state of the RPC or my motivation to write I'll be more than eager to return, though it does seem unlikely.
//Things have been quiet lately, and it's of course by no means anyone's fault for being quiet!! (I can't blame them, life and Tumblr bullshit have taken a toll on a large portion of the RPC as a whole lately) But in the end, I think it had more of an effect on my motivation to write than even I expected. I tried for the past year or so to "Get back on my feet", as even now I deeply miss Leonard and being able to write him, but evidentially, I haven't gotten very far QwQ
//That said!! While this could be it for this blog, if anyone wants to discuss plans for plotting or even just chatting over Discord (At the end of the post), lemme know! One of the hardest things about the choice to leave this blog behind is definitely the loss of community that comes with it, there were a lot of people who followed me and that I briefly spoke to these past months who I don't want to cut off a potential friendship with just because of my own personal circumstances!
//And going onto that topic, I won't be shutting down or removing any current drafts or asks in my inbox in the event I ever magically DO get motivation to write again or something changes, and of course, that in turn means the blog itself will be staying as well!! You might have guessed, it goes without saying that this blog and the interactions on it mean a great deal not to just me, but (At least I hope!!) some of you. It's also a bit of why I wanted to "wrap up" the blog with the in-character piece at the top, even given my issues with writing (I may add to it to make it feel more "complete", given I kinda don't like how half-assed it feels currently), it just didn't feel fair to go for what could be forever without letting him speak his final piece. :,)
//I won't spend too long waxing out all the sentimentals, but I've stated over and over how when I first made this blog, I really wasn't expecting it to last much more than a couple weeks before moving onto another character. It's kind of impossible for me to state just how much this blog and all the experiences on it mean to me personally and the impact it's left, both personally, as I mentioned before, but also in my enjoyment and love for Drakengard 1 and 2 and Leonard's character specifically! Being able to dive into his mind and find someone I can put together so easy with such a well-constructed tragedy, it's not much of an overstatement to say that ironically, being able to play and put my own mind and problems away for one I not only cared to look into, but one I could more easily pick apart and explain the actions of while being layered enough and having enough facets to make it interesting. Leonard in a lot of ways was and is a sort of second life for me, but in a way I didn't have to deal with the burden of having a psychical body or firsthand perspective! lmao
//And not to be sounding all overdramatic or anything but as I said, it's letting go of not just what feels sort of like a little hideout or small part of me I like to nurture and keep from falling into rot, but this blog is some of the most fun I've had in a horribly otherwise busy, yes, but very mundane outside life. It's sort of pathetic to admit, but I mean it in the best way I can when I say I haven't really gotten so emotionally engaged with anything in a long time. Just the small interactions and memorable snippets from this blog, both from long-standing partners, people who fell off, or even people I just spoke to once and then never again still play over in my head and definitely spark a lot of joy when I really need it! I'll be honest, there's not one day that goes by where I don't think of at least one interaction I've had here. I remember my pain at being in a different timezone and always falling behind the drama before I went to the US and could finally catch up. To update on that: I'm not doing too well in the US in all honesty, but I'm doing my best to get on my feet and making progress!! One of the first things I always did in difficult situations was, unironically, use this blog to reference some old posts and memes to laugh and think about all the new connections, subplots, and jokes that were going to be shared.
//I guess the final point I'd like to make is a short one, but a major argument I had against shutting down when the thought first entered my mind, and the hardest part of all this is the loss of potentiality. I had a lot planned for Leonard, both things that I actively wanted to do and just general questions of "What kind of people will he meet with next? What will he think of them, and how long will they get to develop with each other?" The thought both of meeting new people and the interactions that could be shared with them, as well as all the different interactions and shenanigans that I thought might be in store when the DOD RPC came back was a major motivator in why I kept trying to fight my writer's block, and why I even kept this blog going for the past year with barely any activity to speak of. Even going on Discord, as you might imagine, can be limiting in its setup compared to just being able to search and see who's out there via tumblr - and joining communities can be quite an issue being a Leonard mun, specifically!!
//But either way, I'll be sure to find my way around it one way or another, and hopefully, by some divine miracle, I'll just end up back at this blog anyways!! Again, the chances are slim, but I'm really holding out here dskhffkdbhdkh
//I think that should be it based off what I wanted to say, Leonard's left nice and comfy at his campfire, and it's getting late so with ALL that said, if we've spoken or never have before (ESPECIALLY if we never have, I like to believe you followed for a reason so I'd love to speak to you so we can get to know each other better, plot, or just chat!!), please consider following me on Discord!! I'm usually on there, and always happy to talk (Unless I'm on Do not Disturb, but that's hardly ever lol):
//My discord is: barnabism
//Anyways, I apologise for the downer announcement, but this has been wracking my brain for the past few days so I'm at least glad just to get the hard part over with. :,)
//Thank you all for over two years of writing!! Please don't be afraid to reach out, and as always, if you have any questions, please ask!! ^^
#Important#||OOC||#{/man; im getting all emotional now lmao}#{/ive had this draaft open all day i literally have like 36 tumblr posts to catch up to now.....}#{/in the morning; though; im tired and have a doctors app early today}#{/posting this will hopefully get rid of some of the HUGE struggles I've been having in the past couple days; but... *crumples*}#{/I'M GONNA MISS YOU GUYS SO MUCHHHHH 😭😭}#{nevertheless! that is why I gave my Discord lmao}#{/Goodnight!! And as I said before; thank you all so much :'))

For the whole Meng Mo manipulates Binghes memories, whether through demonic powers or not, it then leads to the question of NYY's point of view.
Cause if she was there, she should know that LBH isn't telling the truth about the abuse, and presumably, MM wouldn't have manipulates her memories.
So NYY knows that LBH is either lying or just wrong. So why wouldn't she say anything. There's the possibilities of she just believes LBH despite never seeing it or the she's scared that he'll turn on her if she contradicts him.
I however, like the idea that while twisting the memories about SQQ (SJ) and the other disciples, the memories also made NYY seem stupider than she was. But she was a disciple of Qing Jin Peak. The peak of scholars and tacticians. While she was somewhat spoiled, she's still smart enough to earn her place there. So she sees the situation. She knows her shizun is going to lose. She bids her time, plays along. She tries to rescue her shizun (could be an AU where she does pull some NHS level manipulation and gets him back his limbs and freedom).
She does her best to kill LBH when he gets out of hand, but heavenly demons are notoriously hard to poison, and she stands no chance in a fight. It takes years, but eventually she creates a concoction that manages to kill him. She takes out the other main wives too. The ones who helped torture her father figure, who stood by as LBH slaughtered her marital siblings.
Basically, give me a NYY who acts like NHS, hiding her intelligence as she plots the perfect revenge for her family.
I really like the fandom theory that Shen Qingqiu told Ning Yingying to do whatever she needed to survive, even if it meant claiming that he was a pervert. Shen Qingqiu could see the writing on the wall the moment he saw Luo Binghe with the Golden Palace delegation, having clearly done more than just survive the Endless Abyss.
Shen Qingqiu's conversation with her is what gives Ning Yingying the push to decide that she's going to attach herself to Luo Binghe and try to tug on his heartstrings to lessen Shen Qingqiu's punishment. (And maybe she does succeed because Shen Qingqiu doesn't get executed. But being imprisoned and tortured for years isn't actually any better. In fact, it's worse - Luo Binghe misinterprets Ning Yingying's words the wrong way thanks to the pushing and manipulation of his other wives... namely Liu Mingyan.)
But I also think Ning Yingying is a sheltered girl who wants to think the best of everyone. And she's probably learnt that although someone might believe in something incorrect, it still doesn't change that the person believes in it. She's seen it firsthand with how Cang Qiong treats her Shizun, believing in the rumor without seeing whatever the rumor claimed firsthand.
So she thinks Luo Binghe is incorrect, but it still doesn't discount the fact that he believes he was mistreated. He exhibits all the signs of psychological signs of mistreatment/abuse (and Ning Yingying would know the signs firsthand from dealing with Shen Qingqiu), which makes Ning Yingying a bit too softhearted with trying to deal with him in the beginning. And then Luo Binghe's strength leapfrogs too quickly (and his harem growing too rapidly) that dealing with him becomes out of her reach.
Wait, you know what would be really cool? Ning Yingying as a spy, feeding information on Binghe's plans to Qing Jing Peak. (Not to Cang Qiong, never to Cang Qiong who gave up her shizun like he was nothing to them.)
Ning Yingying could had very well been the silly, olibious girl that Luo Binghe remembers. But Binghe was away in the Endless Abyss for years - years that she spent training, learning, and maturing. She's a different person. Qing Jing disciples are different too.
It's not outside the realm that the whole peak are now educated spymasters and intelligence officers because Shen Qingqiu was worried about the future and decided to pass off his streetskills (framed in the form of being spies, undercover agents, and other "cool" roles often seen in adventure novels that Shen Qingqiu pretends that he doesn't know are popular among teenagers) to his students.
And when Shen Qingqiu is imprisoned unjustly so, the students quickly organize. They start spreading out, slowly leaving Cang Qiong in pairs (who shunned and sabotaged them since Liu Qingge's mysterious death), and placing themselves in important strategic positions. Ning Yingying's place in Luo Binghe's harem is one of them. Ming Fan, one of the few still remaining on Cang Qiong, is the replacement for Shen Qingqiu in doing the peak's duties. Some enter the imperial government, others return home to their politically powerful families or rich merchant businesses. Some become "wandering cultivators" to build good reputation and gather information while wandering from brothel to brothel.
Rather than a blatantly BAMF Ning Yingying, I want her and her peakmates to be slowly and subtly undermining Luo Binghe's operation (like CIA agents) while also basically becoming the shadow rulers of the world, all for the sole purpose of rescuing their shizun.

not to winx club dub discourse in 2021 but i decided to watch the ep where we meet musa's dad in the rai dub instead for a change and... whew do i have some thoughts
first off, i understand that the rai dub is closest to the original italian version and is considered more ‘authentic’ and therefore better. doesn’t change the fact that, at least based on this one episode alone, the 4kids dub is superior. please don’t take this too seriously lol
so i'd never watched the rai dub before but in this version musa's dad writes a song for musa's mom which she... doesn't like, they go broke trying to get famous and can't pay their medical bills, resulting in the death of musa’s mom. whereas in the 4kids dub her mom instantly falls in love with her dad's song, she gives up her classical training and he gives up his royal status to be with her, they're pretty successful and take time off to have musa, then musa's mom passes
like... there's a message in the 4kids dub, that you can go against tradition to do what you love and be with the person you love. which directly parallels musa's relationship with riven since he's somewhat of a social outcast but she loves him and wants to be with him anyway. what is the message of the rai dub? don't follow your dreams or you'll die broke? make it make sense!
i think that the message that musa needs to keep making music, even if it is painful for her dad who is having a hard time getting over his partner’s death, is just more coherent. it centers the conflict around musa’s family and the importance of keeping her mother’s memory alive, rather than ‘you will go broke and die if you pursue your passion also i don’t like riven for arbitrary reasons’
as for musa’s dad not vibing with riven... what was the point of that? we are told that they have met offscreen, so musa’s father’s reasons for disliking him seem silly and contrived. how are we supposed to be invested when we don’t see this meeting firsthand? further to that, there is a very subtle implication in the 4kids dub that riven and musa’s relationship parallels her parents’ enduring love, in that they rebelled against society together. this implication is compounded by the fact that the concert at red fountain takes place a few episodes after the whole jared fiasco where all of musa’s friends are essentially telling her to dump riven and date jared instead
also, musa’s parents both had to change for one another and make sacrifices to be together. later on in the series, musa earns her charmix by finally telling riven outright that she likes him, showing enormous growth from the early season one musa who always tried to ‘play it cool.’ later, riven makes the ultimate sacrifice for musa by taking a death blow from darkar intended for her. the parallels are subtle, sure, but it almost seems like the rai dub is trying to tell us that all the change and growth musa’s parents went through together was in vain? again, there is a lack of clarity around what the actual message of this episode is
at least based on this one episode, the rai dub suffers from a very telling structuring issue. don’t get me wrong, the 4kids dub has its problems, but the narration employed in the rai dub meant that we were told rather than shown the evens of the episode. also the dialogue is just... stilted, and weird, and off in so many places. i understand that the 4kids voice acting is critiqued as goofy and silly, but the rai dub voices are boring and lacklustre to the point where i could barely distinguish one character from the next. there is so little variation even in accent, tone, or the use of slang or verbiage. yes, british!tecna, musa’s use of early 2000s slang, and stella’s over-reliance on phrases such as ‘fabulous’ and ‘dawling’ are a little gauche, but these quirks breathe life into the voice acting and show the passion behind the project as a whole
one thing i did like about the rai dub is that the red fountain gig is supposed to be musa’s ‘musical debut’ which does add to the stakes. when you watch the 4kids’ answer to this episode it’s very easy to be like ‘she could just... not perform at this one concert, and then keep her music from her dad till graduation.’ that said, at least in the 4kids dub, she had spent the summer before season two touring with some music group and also performed at the back to school dance in season one. is there something about a musical debut i’m not understanding?
that all being said, all of this is based on one (1) episode. i know that the 4kids dub changed a ton from the original canon, including re-writing more ‘mature’ plot points, in an attempt to make the show more suitable for younger, american audiences. i can totally understand why people who are familiar with the og dub can’t stand the 4kids iteration. i think must of us tend to gravitate towards the dub we grew up with. i also am going to try sit down and watch the rai dub up to season three, whenever i finish my season three 4kids rewatch
again, if you can’t stand the 4kids dub, please don’t take these presumptions criticisms based on my viewing of one episode too seriously. honestly? i am starting to consider 4kids as an entirely separate iteration of winx canon entirely. for me the winx canon ends at season three, since that’s when the 4kids license expired, and an entirely new canon had been established by the 4kids writers. none of these writers were the same writers as that of the rai dub, so why should we consider it within the same canon?
#.txt#winx club#4kids#rai#rainbow#rai dub#4kids dub#anyway this became a fucking dissertation very quickly. and also a treatise on why you should ship riven with musa lol. but i can't talk#about winx club without talking about them apparently#i know that these points have probably been made thousands of times before and i regret to dredge up the dubbing wars again but i seriously#didn't think the rai rub was going to be... like that.#again please don't take this too seriously!!#although. if you are rai dub supremacist. i would strongly recommend sitting down and watching the 4kids dub from start to finish

Essential Avengers: Avengers #246: GATHERINGS
August, 1984
Family feud! Guest-starring SERSI of the Eternals!
She comes!
A portent of times to come! I hear a faint rumbling of leather jackets from distant years...
Also, hey! She-Hulk! I missed you!
The Avengers have been through the Secret Wars and participated in the Wraith War! What’s next for our band of heroes?
Maybe parties? The cover makes it look like a party is going on before some Kirby-looking guys crashed.
But also? Vision’s vague scheming to raise the Avengers’ profile continues as he and Scarlet Witch take a trip to visit President Reagan and First Lady Reagan at the White House.
Weird thing is that we don’t get an unobscructed view of Reagan’s face. He’s either back to the ‘camera’ or cropped on the panel border. Weird, since this wasn’t a problem last time he appeared in this book. Y’know, the time some plant people tried to hold him for ransom? That time?
President Didn’t-Pay-for-the-Likeness-Rights thanks Vision for taking time to personally brief him on all the biz the Avengers have been up to.
President Reagan: “I wish we could talk like this more often! The National Security Council keeps me posted on your missions, but there’s nothing like getting the news firsthand.”
Vision: “I quite agree, Mr. President. In fact, I have a few suggestions for making the lines of communication between Avengers Mansion and the White House more... shall we say... direct?”
He suggests they speak in private which Reagan gladly agrees to, shooing Scarlet Witch and Mrs. Reagan out. To Scarlet Witch’s surprise because he sprang the trip on Washington on her and now he’s sprung this on her.
Also, every time Vision meets someone in private and the conversation takes place off-panel, they suddenly come around to his point of view so.... uh...
Well, I’m sure it’s fine.
Meanwhile, we get back to Captain Monica Marvel Rambeau’s subplot. Remember how she worried after getting back from Secret Wars that she had no explanation to give her family for being missing for several days? And was thinking of telling them about her secret superhero thing?
Well, she calls home to New Orleans and her presumably firefighter dad answers. I presume he’s a firefighter because there’s a firefighter hat and coat hanging up prominently in the background. We call that environmental storytelling.
Monica’s mom isn’t home so Monica asks for her parents to call her back when they’re both available.
Monica: “In a way, I’m glad momma wasn’t home. That gives me more time to figure out how I’m going to tell them that their ‘little girl’ is leading a double life... as an Avenger called Captain Marvel!”
... Geez, her costume looks so weird when there’s nobody in it.
Monica ponders just bringing it up casually by RECAPPING HER ENTIRE BACKSTORY! Which, in fairness, would be an appropriate way to handle it. But she decides that just going ‘yeah I was helping old family friend Professor LeClare investigate a secret lab on an oil platform, punched a machine, got powers, and then joined the Avengers’ would sound crazy and that there must be a better way to tell them.
I say, take it slow and ramp up. Start from ‘I have superpowers’, do a little pew pew flashlight beam and let their questions guide your explanation.
Meanwhile again but elsewhere, Wasp van Dyne is just chilling at Avengers Mansion, bumming herself out rereading the World According to Garp, and receiving a phone call from West Avengers Chairman Hawkeye.
He tells her that he found a great HQ for the new West Coast Avengers, some old silent film star’s home, and he’s overseeing renovations now.
This ongoing Hawkeye real estate subplot is to get you excited for the upcoming West Coast Avengers series. Are you?
I dread it.
Anyway, Starfox comes in after the phone call and recognizes that Janet is in a Mood. A very bored mood. A post-chairperson funk.
Wasp: “It’s just that Wanda and the Vision are in Washington... Hawkeye and his new wife are setting up a new team in California... Cap and Thor are away on missions of their own... Everybody’s doing something! Everybody but me! It’s funny, after all we’ve been through lately, especially with that horrible Magneto, you’d think I’d appreciate a little leisure time. But instead, I’m bored out of my mind!”
Magneto kissing her really teed her off if that’s what she’s focusing on from the whole Secret Wars thing and not having died.
Starfox has just the answer for Wasp’s post-Magneto-kissing blues though.
PARTY.
He was on his way to a great party and Wasp can be his plus one!
Meanwhile, on the Washington to New York plane, Vision and Scarlet Witch.
She’s confused why they didn’t just take the Quinjets that they have instead of flying on a commercial airline but Vision says that getting out among the people is just good public relations.
I mean, he’s not wrong. But also flying in public, in your costumes, seems like it runs the risk of aggroing a supervillain attack.
It doesn’t happen but I wouldn’t have been surprised if it did.
The flight attendant asks Vision if he drinks before course correcting into asking him if he wants a drink.
I don’t know what’s more amazing here. Wanda going ‘he never has coffee at home’ like that coffee ad that Airplane spoofed.
Or Vision patting himself on the back for connecting to the common man with his drink order.
Simply superb.
Back at the casa Rambeau, Maria Rambeau returns and then returns Monica’s call. Monica says she’s going to come over for dinner and then a panel later, she’s knocking on the door.
Her parents are confused because it’s a twenty-minute drive between Monica’s house and theirs but that’s just part of what Monica wants to explain to them.
I see Monica decided to just jump into her explanation.
Back in New York, Janet frets over whether she’s dressed right for the party but Starfox just dismisses that as one of Earth’s weird mores. Why, he only wears the one outfit and that’s just gonna have to be good enough.
They arrive at the party and it seems to be a hobnobbin’ sort of event, with people discussing court settlements and acting. Also, She-Hulk is there. Hi, She-Hulk!
Glad Stern found another excuse to include you after Byrne stole you away to the land of the Fantastic.
She-Hulk says she met the host at an exotic bakery shop just last week and that’s how she scored the invite.
I wonder what made these baked goods so exotic. And I’m wondering if it wasn’t actually erotic. Do I think that She-Hulk would purchase a butt cake? Yes, yes I do.
She asks Starfox how he knows the host and, well, he doesn’t. He heard about the party and decided to invite himself (and Wasp) along. I.e. crash.
But the host...
ITS SHE!
SERSI!
SHE COMES!
But the host, Sylvia Sersi, isn’t too bothered by the pair of party-crashing Avengers and has She-Hulk introduce them.
Starfox is enchanted to meet Sersi and she likewise but they’d best not be too enchanted to meet each other because I’m pretty sure they’re not too distant relations.
Mentor founded the Titan colony of the Eternals and the Eternals have all been around a while so there’s not that many branches between Starfox and Sersi, I don’t think.
Anyyyyyway.
A drunk man pauses before a mirror to tidy up his tie and gets a startle when a Watcher-looking guy that isn’t the Watcher because he has hair appears in the mirror instead of his own face.
When Sersi comes over to investigate she tells him he must have imagined it and sends the guy away for some air but then interrogates the mirror face man and calls him Domo.
Domo, in the mirror: “We need you here in Olympia! Everyone is needed for the final decision!”
Sersi: “I told you before, I don’t care! Go ahead and make your big decision! It won’t affect me, because I intend to go right on doing as I please!”
Then she turns the mirror into a picture of penguins??
Her powers are great indeed.
Although her investment in the community is less so.
Whatever this mysterious decision everyone is voting on, it is clearly less important than this rockin’ party. This party has a She-Hulk!
Back over at the Rambeaus, Monica decides to just rip off the band-aid and tell her parents that she’s Captain Marvel. They find it hard to believe so she just pulls out her costume and lightspeeds into it.
Harder to hold doubts when your daughter glows with an awesome power.
Frank Rambeau: “It’s true... my little girl’s an Avenger. Hey, that means... you’ve met Captain America!”
Frank jumping right to the important points.
Thankfully, Monica’s parents are very supportive. And actually like the Avengers. You have cool parents, Monica.
Frank Rambeau: “Monica, I don’t know what to say! The Avengers are heroes... like Cap and the Black Panther and Thor... They’re like a legend! To think that you’re one of them -- !”
Maria Rambeau: “We’re very, very proud of you, dear... Prouder than we ever thought possible!”
Very cool parents.
Meanwhile, back at the party, mirror spooked guy (apparently Harry) goes out for air like Sersi suggested and then sees something else which spooks him even harder!
He runs from the party babbling about seeing things or not seeing things and not sticking around to sort out which.
Then a bunch of goons crash the party by flying through the terrace doors.
Look at these total goons.
Starfox steps forward and tries to defuse the situation both by words
Starfox: “Easy, my friends! I’m sure you don’t want to hurt anyone!”
And by shooting pleasure beams from his mind.
Predictably, his pleasure beam, besides being creepy, can’t be allowed to be too effective.
If it actually worked we wouldn’t have conflict and plot.
So like the Hulk in Incredible Hulk #300, these dudes called Delphans just slap Starfox out of the way.
Then superhero number two steps up.
One of the Delphans say that they need to get “that witch” before she can cause them any grief and She-Hulk was in proximity and assumes they meant her and takes exception to that.
She-Hulk: “‘Witch’, huh? You wouldn’t mean me, would you? That’s a bad choice of words, but you’re right about one thing... I can give plenty of grief!”
The Delphan just immediately hits her with an energy pole which just pisses off She-Hulk and ruins her party dress. Thankfully she had the unstable molecules FF costume on underneath.
She dresses in layers.
Delphan: “You’re still standing? But that photon-burst would have stunned the mighty Karkas!”
She-Hulk: “You stupid jerk! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find nice things in my size?!”
She-Hulk and Starfox start beating on the Delphans but its Sersi’s party and she can shoot eye beams if she wants to, eye beams if she wants to.
Sersi: “I should have known Domo would send you Delphans after me! Well, it won’t work! You’re not taking me away without a fight!”
Not just eyebeams but apparently a piggifying beam!
A singing piggifying beam!
Oh, sure, the Delphan says that its a transmutive ability but I know whats what.
Her name is Sersi, which is like Cerci, and she can shoot pig beams at people, especially Greek soldiers.
Unfortunately, like other witches before her, she needs some wrist range of movement to do her business and grabbing her by the arms will just nullify her.
Sigh.
If only he didn’t have armored outpanties, she could kick him in the business.
But fortunately, Wasp “can blow up a small house” van Dyne won’t be stopped by armored outerwear and shoots the Delphan grabbing Sersi right in the butt.
That is, Wasp shoots him in the butt, not that he’s grabbing Sersi in the butt.
Meanwhile, over in the Vision and Scarlet Witch subplot, their plane lands at LaGuardia and they’re instantly accosted by journalists who wants Vision’s take on rumors that the president is going to make chairmanship of the Avengers a cabinet-level post.
Vision coyly tells them that he and the president discussed many things but he’s not at liberty to confirm anything.
Hmm.
Then Vision excuses himself, saying that he and Wanda have to get back to Avengers Mansion.
Scarlet Witch: “We certainly do!” And when we get there, we are going to have a little talk!
Seems Wanda is annoyed at all this being left out of the loop.
Back at the A-plot, where A stands for Avengers go to a party and then get into a fight, Sersi gets fed up with these shenanigans and threatens to turn the Delphans into worms but she gets grabbed by the wrists again, this time by power-dampening chonky handcuffs, and dragged away by the Delphans to their spaceship that was hovering right outside the party.
Starfox and Wasp fly out in pursuit, with non-flying She-Hulk complaining about being left behind.
Wasp: “After them, Starfox! We mustn’t let them get away!”
Starfox: “I quite agree! Hostesses such as Ms. Sersi are all too rare!”
Wasp: “No kidding! Once we rescue her, I want to find out how she does that trick with her eyes!”
... Really.
The eyes specifically? Not the singing pig beam?
Huh. To each their own.
The ship takes off shortly after Wasp and Starfox stow aboard and the two heroes resume beating Delphan ass to try to save Sersi.
Lead Delphan: “We have the advantage in number, but they’re still making us look like idiots! We can’t let them beat us now! Have to initiate transport... while there’s still a chance!”
The ship then disappears with a FWOF!
And reappears above the mountains of Northern Greece.
Apparently, Eternal transportation is like the kind in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy because Starfox and Wasp are discombobulated and nauseated by the transport.
The Lead Delphan seizes the opportunity while the bull is hot and pulls the lever to make the ship just completely disassemble.
The Delphans take advantage of the heroes startlement to beat the shit out of Starfox in midair.
Clever. But rude.
Sometime later, Starfox comes to in Olympia to discover that he and Wasp are completely surrounded and in the shit.
Domo: “Citizens of Olympia!! At last, we all stand together... reunited with our Polar and Pacific cousins! Our destiny beckons! But before the ritual may begin, we must first deal with these two... who have intruded into the affairs of the Eternals!”
Hey, dick! They don’t come to a party you’re crashing and slap the host!
But I guess we’re going to meet all the Eternals next time.
What a fun coincidence that I’m hitting this point of the story when the Eternals movie is just a few months away.

It’s been a while since I’ve drawn, much less created a new OC! But recently I’ve succumbed to Bugsnax brainrot, so introducing Brandy Brittleshoot!
Brandy is a freelance writer and editor, working on several different projects at once before coming to Snaktooth Island. Alongside decently good hearing he has an intense curiosity for the world, often experimenting with different Snakified limbs to get inspiration for his latest story! (Just be prepared if you ask them about it, you’ll be stuck there ‘till nightfall).
I also filled out an interview prompt of him under the cut from @cosmicheartz , so check that out if you’re interested and feel free to shoot any asks about them! I’d love to talk a bit more about my newest character!
Who are you?
I’m Brandy Brittleshoot, I’m a freelance writer! Editing articles, typing out scripts, writing for dating sims, I’ve done a lot!
( How long have you been writing for? )
How long? Hehe, honestly I can’t even remember. One of my earliest memories was me writing an alternate ending to a book that had a crummy finale. I was so upset and whined so loud at a last minute plot twist that my dad sat me down in front of a notebook with a pencil so he could focus on his work. Though, I don’t think he expected me to actually write something decent! Never underestimate the power of an upset fan!!
( Anything in particular you’re writing now? )
Oh a handful of things! I have like, a million story ideas sitting on the backburn, but right now? I’m outlining a story idea I got for my latest novel! The details are a little hazy right now, but it’s all about an island of shapeshifters who can change into whatever they want. But of course, in a world like that there’d be lots of chaos if there were just like, a bunch of dragons flying around everywhere (who wouldn’t want to be a dragon) so there’s the government trying to limit it somewhat and there’s this one girl who-! Oh, grump! Sorry, um, still working on that.
Why come to Snacktooth island?
Oh Lizbert’s to thank for that! A while back I helped with putting out her story about Grumplantis! She saw a bit of the work I was doing at the time and, for some reason, decided I should help her out! Still have no idea why she chose me to help edit especially considering I was writing Grumpus Croft fan fiction at the time, but to think I’d get to help publish official findings about a lost civilization!!! I didn’t even care about the money, just the thought of working together with an explorer like that is just-!
( *Ahem…* But, what about Snacktooth? )
Oh right, that! Well, long story short she thought the work I did was good and invited me to come along as a way to say thanks since she didn’t exactly have the funds to pay for my work. Obviously I couldn’t pass up an opportunity that big, getting firsthand experience with an actual adventurer! So I dropped what I was doing, packed up and came right along with her!
Thoughts on bugsnax?
Duuude, okay. So imagine me, a writer who absolutely loves fantasy, lands on this island and finds out that fantasy actually exists! And is edible!!! I get to know what fantasy tastes like!!! This whole island is walking through one big fantasy novel and I have gotten nothing but inspiration since I’ve gotten here, it’s amazing!
( What does fantasy taste like? )
Okay, it’s like--actually, hang on, it would be faster if I just read this excerpt I wrote down a bit ago instead of trying to explain. *ahem.* ‘Upon the first bite of the plump and crispy Bunger, a dazzling fireworks show of flavor cascades into my mouth and paints a nova onto my taste buds. Each crunch a new explosion, a new flavor, a new color streaming across the sky’s canvas and dazzling me like a nova-’ oop, put nova twice there… ‘-Dazzling me like a child’s first glimpse at the night sky’s expanse! A symphony of crackles for me to experience alone, and by the time the last stream of light fizzled out, I’m ready to light the fuse for an encore.’ And that was just for the Bungers!
Why did you leave town?
Hoooh boy okay, bit of a loaded question there… After Lizbert and Batternugget vanished I tried to keep calm and keep doing what I was doing, wait for them to get back. But as the Bugsnax ran out and people got hungry, it was a bit hard to keep doing that… especially with all the noise...
( You’re referring to the fight? )
More or less yeah. I could hear pretty much everything from inside my cabin: Everyone ganging up against Cromdo, Chandlo calming down Snorpy from a panic attack, Filbo doing his best to keep everything together (can’t blame the guy for trying). Good hearing is both a blessing and a curse I guess… but the worst no doubt was Wiggle.
( What was up with Wiggle? )
Well, I do like her music, don’t get me wrong. But since coming to the island I can’t exactly handle being in the same room with her. She tried getting me to write her some song lyrics for exposure, kept peeking at my writing notes to steal my ideas, and worst of all, she stress yodels. And around the time the two vanished, she certainly had a lot of time to practice. I already couldn’t handle the fighting, but her singing was the last straw, so I slipped out in the middle of the night before I had to hear another note. Erm... you don't think she'll sue me for defamation if you put this in your story, will she?
Any info on Lizbert?
Duuude, Lizbert is no doubt the coolest person I know--probably ever! It’s like she jumped right out of an action movie and I could actually talk with her! She was really nice, telling me about a lot of her previous adventures in her free time and supporting me when I was going through writer’s block. Of course, she wasn’t around too much when she was out hunting snax, but Doctor Batternugget was around!
( Did you and Doctor B.N. get along? )
Yeah Miss Nugget was really nice! She was usually quiet when Lizbert wasn’t around, but after keeping her company one day and helping her sort supplies we got to talk a lot. She even volunteered to read some of my story drafts in her downtime--without me asking first too!! Plus, she also was a good resource to go to when I was writing about… more graphic details regarding Grumpus anatomy. I know a lot of people say that they might not come back, but I know they’re out there somewhere I know it! I mean come on, an adventurous explorer and her nurse girlfriend? That just SCREAMS main character plot armor! Plus, it would seriously suck if I finally find people eager to read my work on their own, then they just vanish from my life altogether… Please be okay Miss Batternugget…
Tape’s almost dry Brandy, gotta wrap this up soon!
Oh thanks for the interview! First one I’ve ever gotten, certainly a learning experience! (Maybe I could make a story entirely using interviews, that could be cool). I’m just sorry for talking your ear off. Hey, I know you’re kind of a solo worker from watching you run around, but if you’d like I can try and help with editing this story when you head back to the mainland. Free of charge too, I know you guys at GNN aren’t exactly treated the best. Not to mention it would look really good on both our resumes if we collaborated for this kinda story!

[AGE: SIX YEARS OLD]
“If you don’t stop bothering him, I-I’ll fight you myself!”
Izuku Midoriya raised his tiny fists at his friend. He knew Kacchan could go a bit overboard sometimes, but it seemed like today he had finally snapped.
“You’re going to stop me?” Bakugo Katsuki threw his head back in laughter. “With what? You’re just a Quirkless little brat.”
Izuku rubbed his eyes, the tears becoming even harder to hold back. Kacchan’s fists were raised, no signs of his Quirk being activated yet, however, his ‘friends’ behind him had already activated their’s. It seemed as though they would do anything to impress their leader, even if it meant harming an innocent boy.
“K-Kacchan please! Why do you have to be so mean?” Izuku was crying now. Although he was trying to be brave, the tears flooded his face as his voice trembled.
The boy Izuku had been trying to protect stood behind him. He was too scared to say anything to the blonde boy who seemed to hate them for no reason.
Bakugo’s expression did not change, showing no signs of sympathy for his classmates. Instead, he took one step forward and pulled fist back back to attack.
Izuku raised his arms in front of his face, knowing what was coming. His eyes closed as he placed his arm over them, waiting for Kacchan’s fist to collide with his body but the strike never came.
Instead, he heard a groan of pain causing his head to lift from its position, his eyes now uncovered.
His line of vision was blocked by a bright blue. A girl stood before him, her hands clutching her reddening cheek. She was panting, as if she had just ran a marathon.
As Izuku moved his head to the side, he managed to catch a glimpse of Bakugo’s face. His eyes had widened and his mouth was open as he clutched his fist.
The girl looked at Izuku over her shoulder.
“You okay?” she said, flashing him a smile.
Izuku found himself nodding. He didn’t trust his mouth to speak yet.
It seemed as though the girl had taken a punch for him, even when he had no idea who she was. She was staring right at Bakugo with such defiance that it left Izuku shaking in his place. He knew firsthand how much pain Bakugo could cause even with his small fists yet here she was, still standing.
The boy Izuku had been protecting had already ran off.
It seemed as though everyone was in shock because it wasn’t until the girl spoke up that Bakugo realised what had happened.
She had been so fast to jump in front of Izuku that Bakugo hadn’t even been able to realise until his fist had collided with her cheek.
“Why don’t you walk away before this gets any worse?”
Izuku watched Bakugo’s mouth close instantly as his eyes glared daggers into the girl’s form.
“Who do you think you are?” his fists were clutched tightly against his sides as he took a step forward again.
The girl stayed unintimidated and instead, took a step towards him as well.
“Someone who thinks you’re a big bully,” she stared back at Bakugo with as much ferocity as she could.
“WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?”
Bakugo’s palms held the telltale signs of his Quirk being activated as he raised his hand again.
“Bakugo, stop! She’s that weird girl with the rock Quirk!” a boy yelled. “She made someone land up in the nurse’s office once!”
Bakugo’s eyes narrowed and he saw the girl flash him a smug smile. The ribbons in her hair had loosened as she crossed her arms over her chest. Her left cheek was now a bright red because of his punch and it didn’t seem like she was going to give up anytime soon. For some reason, he was reminded of himself as he continued to study her...
And he didn’t like it one bit.
“Doesn’t matter. I’m the strongest person in this class, I can—”
Bakugo’s words were interrupted as their teacher’s voice was heard from the distance.
“Bakugo Katsuki! Your parents are here to pick you.”
Letting out a scream of frustration, Bakugo lowered his hands. He was contemplating ignoring the teacher altogether, before he decided against it. His mother had a nasty temper and he wasn’t in the mood for a scolding today.
“This isn’t over yet,” he growled, before turning on his heels to face his friends. “Come on.”
As Bakugo retreated the scene, he looked over his shoulder in time to see Izuku grab the girl’s extended hand.
The amount of anger that surged through Bakugo’s body upon seeing the scene was something he’d never felt before.
How dare this unknown, annoying little girl stare at him so boldly?
How dare she protect dumb Deku who deserved every punch thrown his way?
Nobody had ever stood up to Bakugo before. Nobody.
So how can this girl have the audacity to face him with such unreserved opposition?
Suddenly, Bakugo remembered who she was.
Always sitting alone in their classroom, she often stared out the window. Her behaviour always got her reprimanded by their teacher but she was one of the first few kids (much like Bakugo) to manifest their Quirk.
He remembered her showing how she could float some stupid rock in the air for a few seconds before her face turned green.
She wasn’t strong at all. Just some nobody who could do a few party tricks.
Then why did that idiot say she landed someone in the nurse’s office?
Bakugo felt himself rolling his eyes as he got closer to their impatient teacher.
Tomorrow, he promised himself silently. Tomorrow, I’ll show her who she’s messing with.
-
“Hey! My name is L/N Y/N, what’s yours?”
Izuku stood silently, staring at the girl’s hand. He looked from her hand to her face repeatedly, before he decided to extend his own.
“M-Midoriya Izuku.”
He was sure the blush he had been repressing had risen to his cheeks, a clear sign of how flustered he was.
After letting go of his hand, Y/N spoke up again.
“You shouldn’t let him treat you that way, you know,” she said, placing her hands on her waist. “He’s just a bully who needs to be taught a lesson.”
The small girl huffed as she frowned at the bushy haired boy.
“Kacchan’s always been like this,” Izuku managed to whisper. “I don’t mind though, he’s my friend.”
The boy’s answer caused her eyes to widen in shock.
“Your friend?” she said. “Friends aren’t supposed to treat you that way!”
“He’s the only friend I have...” Izuku trailed, his eyes starting to water again.
She probably thinks I’m a los-
“No, now you have me.”
Izuku was sure he was about to faint.
Did she just-
“If he ever bothers you again, let me know okay?” her bright smile was back in its place as she grabbed Izuku’s hand.
First, this girl defends him. Then, she offers to be his friend and protect him against the strongest boy he knew.
Izuku was sure he was either hallucinating or asleep.
“W-why would you help me?” Izuku managed to stutter out.
“Because we’re friends now, silly!” Y/N giggled. “Friends always protect each other.”
-
[AGE: FOURTEEN YEARS OLD]
Izuku shook his head, recalling one of his fondest memories as L/N Y/N sat next to him. She was rambling as usual as their teacher tried to distribute their exam papers.
As much as Izuku loved remembering how he had found his best friend, he couldn’t help but feel guilty.
After the two had become inseparable, Kacchan’s anger towards the young boy had increased a tenfold. This caused Y/N to fall victim to Kacchan’s wrath as well.
And if Izuku didn’t know any better, he was almost certain Kacchan hated Y/N as much as he hated him.
However, the young girl never stopped defending him in any way she could. Her and Bakugo had fought more times than he could count, with Bakugo terrorising anyone who tried to befriend Izuku or the girl.
She was still never as cruel as Bakugo. She dealt with him with her words rather than her fists. Izuku had seen the extent of her Quirk and abilities and knew she was strong - dare he say, as strong as Kacchan - but she never used her skills to torment the blonde boy.
Bakugo was the exact opposite.
Y/N was made fun of constantly but the worst thing Bakugo had done was burn all of her textbooks the previous year. Izuku had watched in horror as the young boy burnt her backpack to crisp, Y/N’s eyes brimming with tears.
And that was when she had snapped.
Izuku had never seen her that angry before yet he still remembered the words she had said that day.
“I hate you, Bakugo Katsuki. I am done trying to be the better person. From now on, if I see you so much as breathe near me, I will not hesitate to let the ground swallow you whole. You’re nothing but a dick,” she had said. “Stay the fuck away from me or you’ll regret it.”
Even since that incident, they hadn’t spoken to each other nor clashed heads. Their rivalry had reached the point of unresolved hatred and Izuku knew that Y/N hadn’t lied back then. Kacchan hadn’t exactly stopped bothering Izuku but he always kept his distance whenever she was with him.
Which meant he had noticed the blatant honesty in her voice as well.
Izuku had asked Y/N if she could actually control her Quirk enough to make the ground swallow people and she had just laughed. Although she was back to normal, he doubted she would really go through with the threat. However, Izuku knew it wasn’t a risk Kacchan was willing to take.
As they sat in class, waiting for the last day of junior high school to end, Izuku was thankful that he had managed to make a friend he knew he could trust with his life.
Beside him, the girl suddenly stopped talking as the teacher approached his podium.
“I would pass out these forms considering it’s your third year at this school,” the teacher paused. “But you’re all going to opt for the Hero Course anyway so what’s the point?”
The class started cheering, excited to finally be able to train for something they’ve always to do.
Y/N and Izuku had always talked about joining the Hero Course together. One of the reasons Izuku had even considered applying to the same school as her was because of how much the girl had pushed him.
“Quirkless or not, you’re still going to be an amazing hero one day Izuku!“ she had said.
After a moment of silence, Izuku spoke up.
“Why? Why do you think I can be a hero without a Quirk?”
The girl raised her gaze to meet his before replying.
“Because you are one of the most bravest people I know. We met because you tried to take on Bakugo without a Quirk and I’ve always admired that about you. Your ability to have the pure guts to take an enemy head on!”
Y/N never failed to make Izuku feel like he was the strongest person in the world, Quirkless or not.
Even now, as their teacher continued, she leaned towards him from her desk.
“We’ll train together later, okay?” she whispered.
Training mostly consisted of Y/N trying to gain better control and precision over her Quirk as Izuku took notes but he didn’t mind.
He wanted to help his best friend get stronger in any way he could.
Nodding slightly, Izuku’s train of thought was interrupted by Kacchan speaking up.
When Bakugo spoke, the entire class knew it was time to shut up. Someone didn’t stop when he was talking once and they ended up getting blown across the school during lunch break.
“No need to put all of us in the same category,” he said, his feet up on his desk. “I don’t plan on aiming low like these extras.”
She kept her head down as she scoffed at his words.
What an arrogant idiot.
“Ah yes, Bakugo. You plan on going to U.A High School right?”
This caused her head to snap back up, eyes wide as she glared at the back of Bakugo’s head.
He’s planning on going there too?
As her classmates around her discussed how difficult her dream school was to get into, Bakugo continued to boast about his achievements.
She felt an uneasy pit settle in her stomach.
As much as she wanted to get into U.A, she couldn’t bear the thought of having to spend the next three years with Bakugo.
And if he found out I was applying along with Izuku, he’d never let-
“L/N and Midoriya, you plan on applying to U.A as well right?”
Y/N buried her head in her hands as the teacher called her out. She knew Izuku was probably stiff as a board besides her as the entire class shifted their eyes towards the two teenagers.
It wasn’t long before the entire class bursted out laughing.
Even though they weren’t laughing at her, Y/N’s eyebrows furrowed in anger.
She knew how hard it had been to convince Izuku to apply to U.A with her but she couldn’t bear the thought of her classmates making fun of her friend.
“You can’t just apply thinking you’ll get in without a Quirk!”
“Like they’d ever take a Quirkless kid like him!”
Before Izuku could respond, Y/N had stood up in her seat.
“Why don’t all of you shut up and mind your own business,” she snapped back at the kids who had made the previous comments.
Everyone else immediately shut up, knowing how protective the girl was of her friend.
“Well Y/N, you do have the best scores in class besides Bakugo. I’m sure you’ll be able to qualify, considering how strong your Quirk is!” the teacher said, trying to diffuse the situation. “As for Midoriya, it doesn’t hurt to try.”
Rolling her eyes, Y/N sat back down.
Izuku gave her a small smile, silently thanking her.
With a subtle thumbs up his way, she went back to waiting for this class to end so she could head home already.
Little did she know, Bakugo had heard the teacher’s comment about her Quirk and his fists had clenched in anger.
He couldn’t believe he might have to deal with her for the next few years of his life. The thought made him angrier by the minute and he knew the only way he could end his frustration was through one thing.
Deku.
-
Walking back into the classroom to see Bakugo towering over her friend was not something Y/N was happy about. His friends continued to laugh as he snatched something from Izuku’s hands.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
All four teenage boys turned around to face her.
Bakugo’s scowl was instantly replaced with a smug grin.
This was going to be good, he thought. She hadn’t spoken to him for the past year and he had been waiting for her to finally burst. He hadn’t taken her threat lightly but he knew Y/N didn’t have the heart to actually harm anyone.
It was why he found her even more infuriating.
“Oh look, it’s Deku’s little bodyguard,” Bakugo said.
Even though it had been quite long since she’d interacted with him, Y/N was able to calm herself down before taking any action against the blonde boy.
Y/N sighed before walking towards the group. She realised he had taken Izuku’s notebook, one in which he kept all of his tips and tricks to do with all the heroes he had ever heard of. She knew how important it was to him, considering it was the closest thing he had to make him feel like a hero.
“Hand his book over and walk away before I choose to get violent.”
Bakugo seemed to have realised the importance of the notebook as well as his grip tightened around the tattered object.
“No, I think I’m good. Why don’t you try and take it from me?” Bakugo extended his arm towards the girl, his grip still intact on the book.
A year later and he’s still an insolent fool.
The girl’s calmness was slowly starting to fade away and Izuku knew she wouldn’t hesitate this time around.
Shaking his head, he tried to tell her to stop but she didn’t listen.
“I swear I am about to shove a brick up your ass. Give him the notebook back!” Her hand reached out to grab the book but Bakugo was too fast.
He turned on his heels just in time to avoid her, taking a several steps towards the window as she continued to try and grab Izuku’s book.
Bringing both his hands to encase the journal, Y/N immediately realised what he was about to do.
“Bakugo don’t you dare-”
It was too late.
The boy had already burnt the book, flipping it over his shoulder and out the window.
Izuku let out a choked sob as he watched Bakugo burn his dreams to the ground.
Literally.
Y/N’s mouth remained open in shock.
“What happened? Didn’t you say something about the ground swallowing me whole last time?” Bakugo laughed as the girl stood as still as a statue before him.
She hadn’t realised her hands had started shaking out of anger until a brick flew inside through the window.
Bakugo, whose back was facing the window sill, didn’t realise until the brick landed a harsh blow on his head.
“OW! WHAT THE FUCK?”
Scowling, he grabbed the back of his head in pain.
But Y/N wasn’t done.
“What is wrong with you? How can you be so cruel?”
Her hands still hadn’t stopped shaking.
“What did you just say?” Bakugo screamed, taking a step towards her.
“How can you be such a jerk? That notebook was so important to him and you just destroyed it without a second thought,” Y/N’s eyes were now burning with such resentment for him that Bakugo almost stopped in his tracks.
“What is your goddamn problem? WHY DO YOU HATE US SO MUCH?”
This was the first time any of the boys had heard her yell.
Her question rang throughout the empty classroom and Bakugo couldn’t help but bite back with as much severity as he could.
“Because neither of you extras deserves to go to a place like U.A. U.A is a school for people like me. I want to be the number one hero one day and I don’t want anyone, including you two idiots, stopping me.” Bakugo stopped before turning to face Izuku. “If you want to be a hero that badly, why not try swan diving off the roof to get a Quirk in another life?”
Y/N swore she saw red as she jumped towards Bakugo without a second thought.
She managed to land a punch to his face before Izuku had grabbed her arm and pulled her away.
“YOU BITCH!” Bakugo screamed, launching himself at the girl.
“Bakugo, stop! You can’t get into a fight again!”
His friends grabbed both his arms, dragging him towards the classroom’s door.
“JUST WAIT AND WATCH, YOU FUCKING DICK,” Y/N screamed as Izuku struggled to hold her back. “I WILL GET INTO U.A AND BEAT YOUR ASS. THAT’S A PROMISE.”
As Bakugo’s friends practically threw him out of the classroom, Y/N heard his voice call out her name.
“I’d like to see you try.”

First few episodes in, I had a feeling that Flower of Evil could become a part of my 'fave dramas of all time' list but I didnt want to raise my hopes cause you can never fucking tell when a drama decides to turn on you and let you down.
Anyway, no worries here cause Ep 16 just cemented FOE’s place on that list.
I will be honest, I came for the thriller and deception aspects of this drama. But I ended up staying for the romance. As the drama went on, some of the logical aspects of the plot confused me but the emotional satisfaction I got from the romance made up for everything. I swear to god, it really did.
Some thinky thoughts under the cut for why it pinged all the right buttons for me. Strap yourselves in. It’s a long and passionate and somewhat confused essay about why I loved Flower of Evil and why I rated it 10/10
Ep 16 was polarising for a lot of people and I understand why. In some ways, it upended all the previous episodes.
The amnesiac reset was not easy to watch, especially since it put Ji Won in even more agony than before. How much did she need to suffer before the fruits of her love were realized? Howevuh, the way I saw it, the amnesia reset established a few things that I believed the drama has stayed true to, all the way from the start to the finish.
Here is the thing, names carry so much baggage. When children are named after a much beloved and deceased relative, it can be one of two things. One, it is a way to honour an important part of your life but also allow the child to be a fully realized person. The second, the name becomes a prison when it is given to you without any choice in the matter and where you are not allowed to be you.
For Hyun Soo, the name Baek Hee Seong has all these memories and emotions attached to it and while his feelings were not any less real, they are tainted by the foundation they began on. The foundation being a deception.
For Ji Won, his name really doesn't matter. Because at the end, she doesnt view him as Baek Hee Seong or Do Hyun Soo. For Ji Won, he is her chagiya, her person, her husband. And for Eun Ha also, it doesn't matter if her father is Baek Hee Seong or Do Hyun Soo. He’s her father first and foremost and her most favourite person in the whole world.
Both Ji Won and Eun Ha accept him for the person he is and the role he plays in their lives.
But for Hyun Soo, Baek Hee Seong will always be the constant reminder of the very thing that ripped apart the fabric of his family life. That’s not the kind of baggage you want to bring to your relationship. Ji Won remembers so many of the good times they had together .But for Hyun Soo, those moments didn’t feel like his because they weren’t attached to his name. It is Hyun Soo more than anyone else that needs the distinction between the two names. Baek Hee Seong was his life for 15 years and it is also the most horrible reminder of how he hurt Ji Won (a person he loves more than anything else in the world) and Eun Ha by having them become a part of his deception. And he also knows first hand what it means to live with an axe over your head, always ready to drop.
15 years ago, Baek Hee Seong was a chance at a better life, a way to escape the shackles of his father. But over time, the thing he thought would set him free dragged not just him down, but also Ji Won and Eun Ha. More than a physical thing, I consider the amnesia plot point to be a thematic reset. Do Hyun Soo links him to his father, but at the same time, it also links him to his sister (one of the good things in his life).
In ep 13/14, he asks Ji Won why must he suffer all of this? Why must he experience all this pain?
And if you further follow this line of thought, you can see why he’s so angry.
Why must he adopt another persona to adapt to the world? Why wont the world adapt to him being Do Hyun Soo instead? These are very valid questions. Our society is very big on ‘being yourself’, but at the same time, society contradicts itself by also saying you can only be you and acceptable by conforming to a very limited sphere of uniqueness. Hyun Soo knows the fallout of this firsthand.
Ji Won has given him all of her from the start. But he has only given her Baek Hee Seong. By going back to being Do Hyun Soo, he reclaims all the emotions he felt in the preceding 15 years and attaches them to his real self. People said that he was just like his father and a psychopath. But he gets to prove everyone wrong.
He’s capable of love, he’s capable of empathy and emotion and he’s also capable of being loved. He achieves all these things in spite of the legacy of his father’s name and his own name. He is loved just as he is.
Just as Ji Won submitted to the mortifying ordeal of being known, so is Hyun Soo now. He wants to show Ji Won all the original parts of him and love her as Do Hyun Soo And isn’t that the realest indication of a loving relationship? Someone knowing you for being you and still loving you.
And as for Ji Won, time and time again she has made it clear that her happiness lies in Hyun Soo’s happiness. If he isn't happy, she cannot be happy. Does it make her seem sacrificial? Yes. Did she have a choice in it? Also yes. And she made her choice. No one else made it for her. She’s given so much of herself to this relationship, but I don't think there is any other way she would have it. In that way, Ji Won has a very singular sense of perspective. It’s the exact kind of tunnel vision, which when you encounter it in real life, feels extremely annoying and unhealthy, and while in a drama, it is also unhealthy, on the flip side, it’s also grand and tragic and heartfelt.
Because she loved him so deeply and truly, in return Hyun Soo tried to do for her all the things that made her happy. And in many ways, it is the same reaction a child has to unstable parental figure. They do the things that they think will make the person happy. Except here, Ji Won has been one of the most stable presences in his life. Ji Won loved him when he did all the little things for her.
But she also continued to love him even when the exterior began to chip away and the relationship started to destruct. And that is Hyun Soo’s lesson for learning that he doesn't have to be anything other than himself to be loved by Ji Won. She may trip up on his name and call him Hee Seong from time to time, but she loves him for being her chagiya.
Strip away all the extraneous details of this drama and you will see that at the heart of it, this was always going to be a love story that was much larger than the two individuals in it.
Ji Won begins pulling away only in the end because while she wants him to be happy, it finally becomes too much to bear. It’s not that she cannot stand seeing him happy. And it is not that she does not love him or is angry with him. It’s the sickening knowledge that perhaps, all her love wasn’t enough and that the damage that others have wrought was too lasting and could not be fixed.
The amnesia reset was a chance for a do-over, and it is not often that you get one. The first time, Hyun Soo came to her as Baek Hee Seong and that too by sheer coincidence and lettuce be clear, Ji Won’s enduring perseverance as well. The second time, he came to her through intention and intuition, and as Do Hyun Soo. And this is the one that counts. He does not remember creating a life with her but he remembers the way she made him feel. The amnesia reset made him go back but it didn’t change the core of who he was.
So what do we see in the final scene? That in fact, more than anything else, it is Ji Won’s love and the prospect of losing it that sent Hyun Soo off the rails and at the same time, it's her love and the the safety and comfort of her presence that brought him back. And it was the same for Ji Won as well. His potential loss of his love sent her crashing but at the same time, his love also grounded her and raised her up if you will.
The evidence of her love was in all the emotions his body remembered. And the evidence of his love was in the way he came back to her and in the way despite all his statements to the contrary, the most emotion he showed was when they both broke down together in the car.
So, Ji Won needed to see that her love was always enough and Hyun Soo had to realize that he was worthy of it and that he deserved it and that he loved her as well. That the past 15 years weren't some ridiculous fluke.
He didn't have to be Baek Hee Seong to be loved or love Ji Won. He just had to be who he always was, Do Hyun Soo.

Wilder Girls Book Review by Rory Power
Wilder Girls Book Review by Rory Power
I didn’t know this until the end of the book, but apparently Wilder Girls is supposed to be a female version or retelling of Lord of the Flies.
Now I’ve read the Lord of the Flies probably three times now and there was nothing other than the survival element on an island that makes me think the two novels are even related.
Wilder Girls by Rory Power is about a group of girls stuck on an island after their boarding school, Raxter Academy, befalls a horrific evolution known as the Tox.
After killing most of the adults on the island, the Tox continues to contaminate the girls, the wildlife, and the entirety of the environment on the island, making living creatures go feral, violent, and rotting-especially the girls.
The book adopts an almost in medias res approach-or, known as in the middle of things -where we are not shown any of this happening.
Instead it has been years since the Tox first took its toll, the survivors are diminishing day by day, the girls remaining are starving, infected by the Tox in some terribly grotesque way, and desperate for a cure.
I genuinely think I would have liked this novel better if it had taken a Lord of the Flies approach and showed us from the beginning how the Tox descended, the madness and chaos it caused, and then the destructive aftermath that followed.
But no, instead we are told all of this trauma and are expected to feel bad and sympathetic towards these angry characters whom we haven’t bonded with or seen experience any of these atrocities firsthand, but I’ll get more into that later.
After taking way too long to introduce you to the island, the Tox disease, and how the girls operate on it, the plot slowly starts to trudge along when arguably the main character, Hetty, is chosen as a Boat Girl in lieu of her best friend and crush, Reese.
The position of Boat Girl now awards Hetty the opportunity to leave the safety net of the school and its forbidden gates and travel with the other Boat Girls and one of the only adults on the island named Welch in order to receive supplies from the Navy that sends food periodically to the island.
After her first trip however, Hetty learns that not all is what it seems on the island and that more than one person has secrets they’re keeping.
Dark and deadly secrets.
What unfolds is a bewildering tale of Hetty’s best friend Byatt being taken in by the Tox and stolen away, a rescue mission undertaken by Hetty and Reese in order to get her back, the unraveling of the island, snippets of Byatt’s POV as she’s being experimented on in order to find the cure, and a anticlimactic ending that left me bereft of any kind of satisfaction or contentment.
This book was...trying too hard to be something that nobody asked for.
A female retelling or re-imagining of Lord of the Flies is an interesting concept and I would be extremely curious to see the social and emotional differences it would have made having an entire female cast versus an entire male cast, but that is not what this book is.
Other than being on an island and trying to survive, almost every element of the book is different. Lord of the Flies deals with concepts like the loss of innocence, nature versus civilization, and the inherent evil budding within each human being when driven to the extreme.
You could argue that Wilder Girls has loss of innocence maybe, but the themes stop there. First off, there are adults in this novel and the girls cater to them accordingly. I never once forgot that Hetty, Byatt and Reese were teenagers. They read like teenagers. They act like teenagers.
A third of the way through Lord of the Flies and you forget entirely that most of the characters are under aged 12 versus the sixteen and seventeen years old of Wilder Girls.
The survival elements differ as well. In Lord of the Flies they have to learn to cooperate and survive on the island by hunting, gathering, and creating a social hierarchy.
In Wilder Girls, the hierarchy is already in place with the headmistress of the school and they are given supplies (most of which is destroyed or dumped out by the way).
I couldn’t actually believe that the book was telling me that these girls survive off a piece of jerky and the battery acid flavor of old soup and still living? And walking? And going to shooting practice?
The actual conditions these girls lived in was preposterous more than it was sad and I spent half the book with my head cocked trying to reason if people could even survive under such circumstances (I don’t think so, not for this long of a time).
The comparisons just don’t cut it for me.
To me, this book came across way too much as Rory Power trying to be symbolic, deep, and riveting and instead I was confused, bored, and unsympathetic.
I cried at the end of Lord of the Flies.
At the end of Wilder Girls, I flipped the page and was astounded to find that the book had ended. It didn’t even read like an ending. I thought it was just another chapter.
It was so abortive and feckless that I genuinely thought pages were missing only to discover the acknowledgments part of the book came next, followed by a deleted chapter I didn’t give a crap about, and then discussion questions.
Now, I don’t know who actually decides if a book gets discussion questions, it could be the publisher, the editor, the author, I have no idea. But I found the idea of giving this book discussion questions before it earned its merit was so pretentious it made me dislike it even more.
This whole book just missed the mark for me.
Power does have some good writing, but she tries too hard in my very subjective opinion. A lot of the writing was wordy and theatrical and I would get bored with all the waxing and waning of the characters and descriptions.
The experimental writing bits with Byatt were downright miserable for me. I ended up skimming most of them. They were half-worded, half-formed, barely coherent thoughts and phrases and I understand that that was the point, but instead of intriguing or symbolic I found it irritating and a waste of time.
I know I’ve been incredibly harsh on this book review and I’m sure there are many of you that would disagree with me seeing as this book was a New York Times Bestseller, but there was nothing in this book that landed for me personally.
The characters were...semi-interesting but I felt like they didn’t get the development or proper exploration I needed to actually like them because the setting and the situations were so dire and ridiculous that it constantly robbed them of any kind of empathetic or human moment.
I do really enjoy the idea of having an almost entire female centric novel but there are other books out there that accomplish that and a female/female romance much better in my opinion (Girls of Paper and Fire for instance).
In the end, it’s safe to say that I didn’t enjoy this novel very much. I would have liked to see these characters before the Tox, to see their downfall, their pandemonium, their change and growth and regression as characters due to their world ending as they knew it.
Then, when the Tox does come and the world goes upside down, the feelings and relationships of the characters would have much more meaning than being told what had happened and expected to care like I was and couldn’t bring myself to, even at the end.
Recommendation: Read Lord of the Flies instead.
Score: 4/10

It's been a few days and I've read a lot of takes and had a lot of long talks with @lolo-deli and I'm firm on where I stood Thursday. People who are pro this new season have been busy with PR, and I've seen the same points over an over. 1. We don't know why they broke up, we don't know what they both did, 2. we can't blame Eda, 3. we will get to see them fall in love again, 4. we will see Serkan with a second pregnancy, and perhaps the key, 5. we needed a reset. Oh, and 6. their daughter will bring them back together. Last season was a mess and we needed a blank slate. I'd like to address these points, if for no other reason than it will make me feel better.
You are correct. We don't know why they broke up. The most popular theory seems to be "Serkan pushed her away", which I think is both because it can make Eda "not the bad guy" and also because he has done it before. I'm not going to belabor the point, but we have spent the rest of the series since then showing a Serkan who learned from that mistake has been willing to anything to be with her. I know amnesia Serkan was a mess--but he also had fucking amnesia. And once he was back, we got back our soft boy who wanted nothing more than to be with her. If they have him push her away, it's for plot reasons, not character ones. So maybe Eda reaches a breaking point. Okay, over what? Him not telling her about the tumor? That's her last straw? She endured everything else, but him delaying telling her about the tumor is the last straw? Does she leave him while he's dying? In treatment? Sees him through and leaves him after? I think no matter how you look at it, for them to break up after all they have been through makes no sense to me. Why would they? As I said in a previous post, what could worse than what they have already endured? In any case, either of them leaving the other, again, means I'm forced to wonder why we would ever want them BACK together. If something happens to break them up for 5 years, then obviously it's not meant to be. If they can't figure out a way to make it work after all they have been through, what would five years of bitterness and stewing do to make either of them ready for a relationship together? (And the teaser makes it pretty clear they *are* bitter.) Instead of seeing a counselor, trying to work through their communication and trust issues, if their choice is always "run and dump" and they've learned nothing in 39 episodes, then what is the point anymore? This is not a second chance romance. This is a toxic relationship I no have an investment in.
We can't blame Eda. Look, I get no one wants to hate Eda. I don't want to hate Eda. My girl has been through hell and back, and she's endured a lot for love of this man. I'd have supported her leaving in 15. I'd have supported her deciding not to trust him in 20. I'd have even supported her leaving towards the end of his amnesia, if she thinks there is no hope. But I'd argue the fact that she stayed, that she worked through her issues with him after 15 and chose to be with him means she knows what she's getting into. She knows who he is at his core, and if he was worth all the pain she went through in the 30s then yes, we very much CAN blame Eda. Even if Serkan broke up with her, pushed her away, I very much can and do blame her for keeping his child. I've seen people say there was a miscommunication, that she tried to tell him and he wouldn't listen, maybe he says he doesn't want kids. I'd argue that if he did, it was because he was dying, otherwise why a sudden 180 from Serkan-I-Want-To-Build-A-Library-For-Our-Children Bolat to "no kids?". Which she should find weird and also realize the cause. Again, it would be for plot reason only. Regardless of what happened between them, the second there is a child involved, to quote @lolo-deli you put on your big girl pants and learn to fucking communicate. Even they aren't together, doesn't mean they can't raise a child together. Unless he's a drug lord or a mafia boss or a serial killer, together or not, he deserved to know about his daughter. He deserved the chance to be in her life from the minute Eda knew. Period. I'm not going to cry for Eda's pain of raising her daughter alone in Italy when she literally could have just told him, and you know he would have moved the moon to make sure his daughter felt safe and loved. At least, the Serkan I know. And the Eda I know would not have let him push her away without letting him know about a baby. Not a girl who knows firsthand what it's like to grow up without a father. So I'm sorry, but if we were hating Serkan for being asshole when he had amnesia and we were hating Aydan for keeping secrets...then I'm hating Eda for keeping a child and a father apart. I'm tired of the "all men are trash and boss queen" all or nothing mentality. I really, truly am.
Look, at no point do I want to have to watch Serkan Bolat fall in love with Eda (again) or his daughter. I've already seen him and Eda do that before, I spent 39 fucking episodes on that. And having to watch Serkan fall in love with his daughter because he didn't get to know her from birth is about the most depressing, least romantic, and most heart wrenching thing I could possibly imagine. This isn't a baby, like so many people keep saying. It's a child. A whole entire formed person and Serkan doesn't know her. Because Eda kept a secret. I hate it.
And it doesn't matter if he gets to see the second pregnancy, bc he still missed the first, and every single thing will be a reminder of that. And I don't know how Serkan, who has always felt unworthy (and justified or not is what led to most of the problems in their early relationship) gets over the fact that Eda thought so little of him that she would rather have her daughter grow up without a father than attempt to get in contact with him and let him have a role in her life. I just don't. That's soul crushing. "Am I such a horrible person that you didn't even want her to know me?" As much as I don't want Eda to suffer anymore, I also don't want Serkan to either. Maybe that makes me an antifeminist. Sue me.
Look, last season was a fucking mess. No one is denying that. Part of it is on the writers, part of it is on the producer who kept hiring and firing writers, part of it is on the fact this show should have ended 20 episodes ago. And I hated the 30s, have no desire to watch them again. But the thing is, you can't ignore the episodes that have been written. As much as we want to. Things happened--and that includes character growth, promises made, words said. You can't just do a reset. And I'd argue that breaking up a couple that said they would do everything in their power to make each other happy, who got rings tattooed on their hands as a sign of never, ever being a part again, wouldn't just break up and not see each other for five years. At some point, it becomes toxic. Lack of communication, selfishness, immaturity, stubbornness--do we even want these people together if something was so awful they separated for 5 years and Eda kept a whole baby a secret? Five years is a long to be apart and not once thing about making amends until they are forced into it. What is the point of that reset?
I hate this. So, what, if Eda hadn't randomly brought their child to an awards ceremony and the girl hadn't happened to see Serkan, then they never would have attempted to get back together? It's not like they couldn't get in contact with each other. How is the fact that without their kid (which Serkan didn't even know existed) they would never have reconciled a cute plot?
Let's not argue that this isn't anything other than it is--a ploy to bring in new fans and/or try and get old fans back on the part of the producer. If someone can explain like I'm 5 how this plot is good, I'll listen. But to quote a tweet I saw, you can't use the words angst, pain, suffering, or heartache, because those are not good reasons. You also can't say "but last season" bc I know. I was there. Last season sucked. I get it. It's not a reason to not even attempt a happy ending.
For now, I'll leave it at this. If your kind of love story is two people who have learned nothing, who only know how to fight and hurt each other and break up and think nothing of using a child as a pawn, than I'm happy for you. This season sounds great. But you can't convince me this was necessary, you can't convince me this was "always the plan", you can't convince me this will be anything other than pain, heartbreak, and a way to try and milk SCK for all it's worth before they are forced to cancel or Hanker finally says "we're done."
#sen çal kapımı#sck#I'm never not going to be a bitter potato#over the wasted potential of this show#two of the hottest stars#the best fucking onscreen chemistry i have ever seen#and the possibility to subvert all the tropes of cyclical breakups and actually write two people in love and happy#and you chose this horseshit#all the fake symbolism and little prince sayings in the world aren't gonna fix this fucking mess#ayse can keep her fucking symbols#give me back my edser#i hated 37 for the performative fakeness#and ill hate this too

A Sinking Memory: Analysis
So, instead of doing my uni work like I should be (my excuse is that my big laptop is updating(that’s where all my code files are that I am supposed to be working on)) I’m going to write a bit about my latest piece uploaded to Ao3 and the 3rd installment in my Halloween Adventures series!
There is a lot to be said about A Sinking Memory, including things I didn’t even think of when I was writing the piece and that only occurred to me after I’d posted it. Not only does this piece work it’s way full circle in less than 4k words, it’s complete on it’s own and it’s one of my more concise yet impactful works.
In regards to the historical fallacies: yes, I am aware that most of the executions during the era of witch trials were either burning, hanging, or stoning, and I couldn’t really find anything about drownings; it would have been more of a test (if she sinks, she’s innocent sorta thing). But, in the spirit of altering things a bit and making a plot work in my favor, I decided this was the direction to go.
You may have noted that I touched on Zoe being chased by colonists with torches further down the East coast only a year ago. I’d mentioned way back in Saudade that this had also happened to her. Suffice it to say, the 1600s really sucked for Zoe in general and anything related to it is triggering. As for the events of her drowning, she’s now definitely traumatized between watching the other two women die and almost dying. She definitely has PTSD from it and she does not like going into water at all anymore and she does not like open flames or fire in general. But wait, you say, what about her altar and the candles? Well, that’s her way of learning to manage this fear and coping with it. She’s made that practice her own and it’s actually even comforting now. She’s not there yet with water, but maybe one day. After this event she even struggled to calmly use her magic again because of that fear of electrocution and it was in general a long time healing.
Now onto one of my more favorite parts; Zoe’s near death. As Zoe is succumbing to lack of oxygen, some very vital things are happening that she doesn’t have the mental capacity to understand anymore. If you knew what was happening on reading this part, before Douxie’s snippet, huge kudos to you. Firstly is the disturbed light above her head - Douxie has leapt into the lake and is diving down to her. But she closes her eyes and is unawares of anything else between the cold and the pain. Here come the key details;
“The pressure around her ankles and wrists releases and she feels strangely weightless. The last things she feels are the chill fingers of Death pulling her away, a gentle hand against the back of her head.”
You can probably guess by now that this is not Death at all, but Douxie, having released the shackles and is bringing them back to the surface, his own cold fingers that she feels, and his hand supporting her head. This was extremely metaphorical to me between the idea of her interpretation and the reality of it. Not everything is as it seems. Water is also representative of life.
Now, back to me choosing water as her execution. Well, not only is fire harder to save someone from in a delayed manner, but water is metaphorically charged. Water is representative of change, life, or associated with obstacles. Before Zoe is thrown in, she considers her fate and that she didn’t run when she could have. This Zoe wasn’t the skeptical, distrustful one she is in the modern day. She tried giving them chances, and unfortunately, it was the last time she’d try reasoning with those she felt to be unchanging. We see this reflected in how ready she was to kill the chimera; she’s become a “shoot first, ask questions later” sort of person. And that’s one of the differences between her and Douxie. Douxie is always going to try another way. He also has serious trust issues, but instead, he will give too many chances. And this balances the two of them, and it strengthens their trust for each other tenfold.
The timejump to the 60′s is a very emotionally packed scene that reflects on Zoe’s lasting trauma and the development after her near-drowning. She’s shoved in by a jerk that doesn’t understand “no.” Now she has further reasons to be distrustful, and I’m afraid the world has a habit of solidifying this idea for her. She literally only trusts Douxie and Archie by the present day. And Douxie being Douxie, well, he stands up for her and simply asks for that jerk to apologize. If it were any other situation, he probably wouldn’t have resorted to violence. But he knows firsthand how awful triggered traumas are and how despicable it is to do something like that when it was clearly wrong. And so for once, he follows through on it. And instead of Zoe coming out changed this time, Douxie emerged from that lake understanding finally that sometimes direct action in the moment will be the best choice.
We see a side of Douxie that is usually quite hidden. He’s not violent or angry by nature, but we do know that if you hurt anyone who he loves, then you’re in bigggggg trouble. Douxie gets her to the car, settles her down, makes sure she’s fine -- and then he snaps. He slams his hands on the steering wheel, he tells her he should have done worse, and then, he softens again, and cries.
Because this world has hurt both of them so much more than just about anyone could know, and it’s not even done hurting them. Douxie emerged from that lake understanding a harsh reality. So not only do we see the final stone setting in for Zoe’s bitter outlook, but we also see the moment in which Douxie realizes that this world is cruel and he’s faced with two paths. It’s either lash out and hurt and hate, or to love and protect. Those few lines in the car are super important to this, because it shows that he’s struggling with his own actions and beliefs.
“It’s not alright, Zoe. People like that are awful. I should have done so much worse. You don’t deserve that.” His face twists up in anger again and he throws his head back against the headrest. “I’m so sorry.”
Tears fall on his cheeks and she pulls him across the bench seat. He wraps his arms around her and lets out a sigh.
He chooses love. Despite the pain, despite the hurt, despite how much the world has hurt them. He’ll choose love each and every time. And he understands now that sometimes he’ll have to fight for that -- a central difference between moppet!Douxie and present!Douxie. Moppet!Douxie wasn’t a fighter by any means because he didn’t know how to be the right kind yet. And now that he knows? And the final straw is his battle with Morgana in Camelot. He knows what his strength is, and he knows that he’s powerful and capable. But when it comes down to it, when everything is considered?
He still chooses love, and he always will. Magic is emotion, and love is one hell of an emotion, arguably stronger than the fury Morgana presented.
And back to the actual fic, because I’ve gotten way off course. Zoe is Douxie’s support system now, other than Archie, they’re the only two he’s always had. Ultimately, Zoe and Douxie are each other’s physical tethers - he holds her hand the whole time he drives them home, the hand on her back. Douxie will always try to be there to pull her out of the depths and be her anchor on land when she’s being dragged under and she’d never hesitate to do the same for him(more on this to come).

fumiko nodded almost violently, of course she’d spend the night with him; it was what she was planning on doing anyway, she just forgot to ask. as much as she wanted to continue smothering him in affection (it was all she knew how to do that stupid bitch-), she couldn’t stay in this room for any longer. it felt like the air was crushing her, and the sight of shuichi in this much pain didn’t help either. hesitantly, she laced her fingers with his and walked to the elevator with him.
-
the whole walk to his room was silent. it was evident that neither of them could really strike up a conversation considering what they’d just been forced to witness. once they were there, she let go of his hand and bolted towards his closet. fumiko did not want shuichi to do any more work than he absolutely needed to, so she grabbed some clean clothes, feeling a little awkward when she had to grab a pair of boxers. she went to the bathroom and set everything down on the countertop of the sink. walking over to the tub (which is here now for the sake of plot idk i don’t think we ever saw it in game shut up-) fumiko started running a bath for him. she accidentally burnt herself with the water when she was trying to fix the temperature, letting out a little yelp when the searing liquid hit her hand. she fixed it, making it more comfortable, and started filling the bathtub. she even put a shit-ton of bubbles in there for him, maybe they’ll help him feel better? stopping the water when it was filled, she called shuichi over, “it’s ready!”
fumiko stood up and gave him one last tight hug, speaking into the material of his jacket, “i’ll be right out there if you need me, okay?” she wasn’t sure what he’d need her for, exactly, but she still wanted to let him know that he wouldn’t be alone.
closing the bathroom door behind her, she sighed and rubbed her eyes. making her way to his bed, she thought over his earlier words. it was never her intention to put any pressure on him, but that didn’t matter because the damage had already been done. what else can i do...? she asked herself. she then thought of getting him some tea. the girl looked over towards the bathroom door. she’d only be a minute, he wouldn’t even know that she left until he had his drink. so, she carefully made her way out the door, making sure to close it slowly on her way out so he wouldn’t hear her leave.
on the way to the kitchen, she was a little paranoid. it was getting late, and she had just been shown firsthand just how real the possibility of her getting killed is. despite this, she still continued walking to the dining hall (only going a little faster than she would normally). she walked in and slipped into the kitchen. she looked over at the cabinet he’d gotten her snacks from that one night, smiling softly at the nice memory. fumiko decided he’d get him something to eat while she was here, too. she was alone, so she had no other choice but to climb onto the counter again to reach the shelf. though, she did it a little more carefully this time. the last thing she needed to do was fall and crack her head open, that wouldn’t be a good sight for shuichi to find, especially now. failing to consider that he might’ve not had such a sweet tooth like she did, she grabbed a chocolate chip cookie. she hopped down safely and placed it on a paper towel. fumiko found some tea on the counter and grabbed a small pot from a cupboard.
she set everything up, and once the water started boiling, she put the teabag in. now, all she needed to do was wait a few minutes. though, she didn’t realize how much those few extra minutes could cost her when it came to the detective in the dormitories.
As soon as Shuichi sunk into the water, he sighed, feeling his tension, dissolve into the warm water. It was nice.
That is until he started thinking.
His eyes stared off into the marble wall across from him, and right before the guilt could even get the chance to rattle him, he suddenly started scrubbing his hair aggressively, wanting to just get this over with; not the best mindset for someone who was trying to relax, but relaxation was a goal set too high for someone who lets his anxiety control him.
The solitude had been close to torture for him, but he did his best to try and enjoy the water anyway, not wanting to seem ungrateful for Fumiko's efforts.
Even so, that didn't mean he was going to let himself sit in the stew of guilt, shame, and grief.
Truly, he would've been fine with Fumiko herself; but he hadn't showered in too long, so this bath was very much due.
Shuichi didn’t want to take too long in the bath — hell, he hadn’t even given his fingers the chance to prune before he started standing up stepping out of the warm water. Despite the protesting chill of the ventilation telling him to stay in the water a little longer, Shuichi couldn’t bear another second alone with his thoughts.
Shortly after drying himself, he threw on his clothes, buttons in the wrong holes and hair a sopping mess as he rushed out the bathroom, fully expecting to see a very huggable Fumiko — only to be hit by the crushing disappointment that she wasn't there.
She was fine, she was probably just getting some snacks, he repeated to himself, anxiety and worry rising the longer he stood there like a clueless idiot.
He frowned worriedly, but she sure was taking long, huh?
It had been 3 seconds.
I should go- No, she's fine.
It took him 5 seconds without Fumiko before he caved in and started walking out the door.
His body moved on its own, and before he could let out another breath, nor think another thought, he had been out the door and speed-walking to the school.
-
Sighing after receiving no luck with her lab, he made his way to the dining room; she sure had a sweet tooth after all.
"Fumiko...! You're oka—!" Shuichi looked way too happy to see her; maybe it was from the lack of sleep, or maybe it was from the fact he had been questioning if she was even alive a few minutes ago.
Even so, all previous worries washed away and had been replaced by a slight rush of relief and gratefulness.
Realizing he may as well have been holding a sign in his hands that said, "I almost cried because I thought you were dead!" from the way he was looking at her, he blinked the emotion away, averting his gaze to the side.
"I- I mean, uh, when did you- why did you go?" Shuichi tried to conceal the dejection in his voice, but it was hard seeing as how every word that falls out of his mouth is akin to that of a doctor bringing bad news to a family. It was, unfortunately, his default.
It was a stupid question with an obvious answer, he concluded to himself as his gaze finally set atop the cup. She was probably just thirsty; she has a right to hydrate, you stalker.
Perhaps what he truly wanted to say was, "I missed you."
It was more than just his own selfish feeling of yearning; it was the fear of wondering if she was even alive, or if someone had kidnapped her. Hope had been the one thing he had been hanging onto as he walked the silent halls.
Shuichi hadn't realized that he had said that aloud, face flushing at his own 'thought' as he roamed the kitchen sluggishly. "Were you hungry? I can't cook anything big, but there's probably food in the fridge... That cookie won't do you any good." He had already been taking out a slice of cake that clearly said, "Do not touch!" from the fridge. Whatever, he'd deal with the consequences later.
The question had proven to be rhetorical as he started setting the food in front of her without another word, yawning silently as he did.

violet evergarden movie and series spoilers
the movie’s ending solidified my opinion about this series being vapid and shallow as a whole.
it did absolutely nothing to subvert SHIT about our expectations about major-san’s whereabouts. it was so clearly obvious from the first episode years ago that he was off and alive somewhere and would reappear when violet had grown up a bit so things could be a bit less creepy.
never once do we delve into the most interesting aspect of the entire show (because lord knows it’s not the cast of characters of any of the plot, because i can’t really seem to remember any thing about either): violet’s origin story.
we got some glossed-over, who-gives-a-fuck explanation during the series about how she was just found on an island with the combative abilities and killing instincts of a death god war machine, but apparently no will of her own or capacity for human emotion. we are given no more explanation than this, because it’s anime so fuck you, nothing has to make sense.
her past never figures into her new life in any meaningful ways, she just happens to be able to bust out the anime karate moves when the citizens of her idyllic fictional austria-like country decide to fuck with her. again, it’s anime and she looks cool and badass when she does it, so fuck you if you think it serves nothing in terms of narrative.
and finally, the least imaginative and most predictable ending to this boring as fuck show: gilbert-sama has been taking refuge all along on an island that is a convenient boat ride away, essentially becoming the village chad by being a schoolteacher, inventor of agricultural gadgets, and general fixer of things. i imagine his google calendar was just fucking crammed. those poor village people must have been really fucked before he literally washed up on shore. plus, he can run really fast as remarked by a child for no reason, asserting to us the audience that he is virile and strong and manly still, in case we had any doubts. but he’s missing an arm and has a scar on his pretty face so it means he’s not perfect by any means.
violet hunts him down and gilbert-kun makes a big show of rejecting her for manly reasons such as feeling bad” because he feels responsible for her tits arms being blown clean off during the war. why were her arms just...removed in the war? how does that even happen? i don’t think it’s shown onscreen but it’s a highly precise injury that does nothing to subtract from her life once she recovers. she just has cool metal arms now that function better than any modern age prosthetic, but computers aren’t a thing yet. okay
violet’s boss, a grown man much like gilbert-kun, makes a weird show of emotionally calling him out for passing up the fine piece of underage or near-underage ass that is violet. seriously, it was weird as fuck.
gilbert-sama realizes how stupid he’s being, and makes a big show of chasing her down (with his virile, fast running) and nearly breaking his neck careening down a mountain to confess to her in ankle deep ocean water.
do we ever get to hear how violet feels about her new boyfriend/legal guardian? nope, she just sobs in response to his confession and they embrace. do we ever learn more about gilbert’s motives for apparently leaving the love of his life to become a smalltime village jesus? nope. real illuminating, thanks. in fact, it would have been an equally plausible explanation that gilbert was in fact on the run from violet, after seeing what an inexplicably efficient assassin she was firsthand, and he decided to keep a low profile because he knew she was never gonna leave his ass alone. both that scenario and what actually happened are explored with a similar level of nuance and depth, so i think it’s only fair to headcanon whatever i want.
anyway, for a series that was asking such a philosophical and broad question like “what is love?” in the context of using your words to communicate intricate feelings, it never really tried to formulate a serious attempt at an answer.**
**i will say that the episode where the mother hires violet to write posthumous letters to her daughter to be given to her on every birthday was probably the one arc that came closest to succeeding. as far as i’m concerned, that’s a standalone ova. everything and everyone else was a snoozefest with the occasional pedophilic undertone to spice things up and overanimated shots of violet crying and clutching her chest.
#god it feels good to openly hate things sometimes#particularly when it comes to anime and light novels bc they make it so easy#personal#i won't tag this further i don't want to start a fight with ve fans i know better

three prologue | 1 | 2 |
summary: Post-war. Canon-divergent. In which Team 7 governs Konoha, much to Sakura’s dismay. —SasuSaku
note: third installment of my multichap fic (im surprised, too) and finally my extremely long headcanon of how sasuke tells sakura about the massacre exists. also, read on ffn for easier viewing, linked in the title.
Sakura finds Sasuke’s chakra signature on the south side of the village before she arrives. She is soothed by the feeling, in contrast to the early days of his desertion, when she felt anxiety at every turn.
“Sasuke-kun,” she calls to him and he turns around, looking so painfully familiar to her, as if they were going to meet Team 7, in the way that they did when they were twelve.
They walk together silently, stopping at an empty plot of land. She recognizes it as the old Uchiha district, emptied after the destruction Pein had wreaked on Konoha. Sasuke quickly forms hand seals, and a stone appears, a sharingan carved into its center.
“I’ve been here before,” Sakura says to him softly, looking around. She pauses, wondering if she should divulge the reasons that she had been here. It doesn’t matter anymore, she thinks, if they are to go forward.
She can feel Sasuke’s eyes on her, but they are not accusatory, only curious.
“After you left, I did some studying, on you, Itachi, the Uchiha clan…” to find you, is what she leaves unsaid.
She looks around the field, remembering the old and abandoned buildings that had been here before.
“Most things about the clan were classified, of course, but sometimes I helped Tsunade-sama after hours at the Hokage Tower. Under the properties owned by the Uchiha clan, this was one of them.”
Sakura remembers, as a thirteen-year-old girl, running around frantically attempting to find information on one missing teammate, while her other teammate had also left her behind. For two and a half years she was alone, spending the majority of her time with Tsunade, and only rarely seeing Kakashi.
Kakashi had been embarrassed, she knows now, because he had been naive in his reassurance that everything would be alright. Still, she thinks, she would have liked it if he had at least practiced taijutsu with her. He was, after all, still her mentor.
But, she supposes, she had been Kakashi’s student only insofar as he was Team 7’s leader. To him, Sasuke was his pupil, the one he had passed raikiri down to, and that student had now been using it on his friends.
“There was nothing here, except empty houses,” she looks at the sharingan on the ground, illuminated by dim moonlight, “nothing I could see, anyway.”
“It’s a special seal,” he tells her, “for sharingan users. This is the nakano shrine, where the Uchiha clan held their meetings.”
She nods and they walk descend into the structure. She spots at the far end of the room they enter, a pedestal with a blank stone tablet on it.
“What is it?”
“It is the monument that contains all of the clan’s secrets,” Sasuke replies, “You need the sharingan to read it, and some parts can only be read by those with the mangekyo.”
She nods, unsurprised by the clan’s level of secrecy. Growing up, the disappearance of the Uchiha clan should have been a huge scandal, but she had only heard whispers of a deserter and the word massacre. She knows now that the Hokage must have covered it up and looking at the scrolls had only confirmed that there had been little information disseminated about it.
Even now, she thinks, looking at Sasuke, nobody in the village knew much about the whole clan that had disappeared.
She wonders if it is alright for her to know about this.
“So,” he breaks the silence once again, “you read the scroll I left you.”
She nods. She had a suspicion that it was Sasuke who had left the scroll for her last night, unsealed, but it is good that he is confirming it. She had wondered if this was going to be an open secret between them, or if perhaps he had a point in doing so.
He had known about the truth behind the massacre, she realizes, and Naruto must have, too. Why didn’t anyone tell me, she wants to know, but remembers being left behind, and tells herself she should have expected it.
But, still, she thinks about Sasuke telling her, in his own way, and wonders why.
“I did,” she confirms, “I had no idea.”
He is silent for a moment. “Me neither,” he tells her honestly, “Itachi shouldered the burden all by himself,” he pauses, looking at her.
“That’s what being on the Konoha Council means to me.”
Sakura understands. Last night, she had thought, so this is the truth that Sasuke-kun lives with. She realizes that divulging this information might have been only a part of their roles as council members, but she nevertheless feels connected to him in a way that she hadn’t before.
“Then,” she walks up to the pedestal, standing next to Sasuke, “we should honour his memory.”
“Aa,” he agrees, and picks up the tablet, “I want to fill this with information about my mangekyo, and possibly the rinnegan, as well. There’s only been very few who have awakened the former, and only me who has the latter. For the sake of the clan, I think it’d be prudent to.
“Will you help me, Sakura?”
“Of course, Sasuke-kun,” she replies without hesitation, and he nods.
It is rare for Sasuke to ask her, of all people, for help. He is often reluctant to accept her efforts, even for the smallest injuries, and she understands that sometimes it is because he does not want to trouble her. Don’t bother, he’ll say, as if to tell her, don’t bother with me. But she had never been good at leaving him alone.
“Let’s go, then,” he puts the tablet back down on the pedestal and blows out the torch. “Didn’t you say you were going to cook dinner?”
She grins, thinking about the fresh tomatoes that she had bought that morning, and follows him out.
.
.
They eat dinner in silence, but she does not mind because he looks satisfied. She wonders how long it has been since someone has cooked for him and feels happy to be able to do so.
He washes the dishes without being asked to and she dries them. They are synchronized, in a way that Sakura hasn’t felt since their genin days, and she is lulled into a sense that this could be their future.
Sasuke sits on the floor of her living room, his legs crossed primly and his back straight. She kneels in front of him, and watches as he closes his eyes, before she sucks in a breath and places her hands on his face.
“I’m in your care,” he murmurs, and her heart flutters.
Sakura is astonished at the complexity of Sasuke’s sharingan. She had, before the war, briefly examined Kakashi’s eye, which was wholly imbued with what she knew now as Obito’s presence in addition to his own, as two chakras working together. The way it had been implanted had also been rudimentary, but effective, confirmed by the decade of rigorous use Kakashi had gotten out of it. She had been amazed by Rin Nohara’s ability to so rapidly unravel the way that the eye worked, and hopes that she can do the same, for Sasuke’s sake.
She had also seen firsthand how much chakra the sharingan depleted—Kakashi’s inability to deactivate it slowly and continuously burned chakra, even when it had been covered by the headband.
Unlike Kakashi’s eye, Sasuke’s eye is imbued with many chakras: she feels the foreign presence of the chakra that fuels the rinnegan, and the dominance and tightly controlled presence of Sasuke’s own chakra, but most of all, she feels the languid presence of Itachi’s chakra, peaceful and yet overpowering.
She feels the immensity of Sasuke’s sharingan, especially in conjunction with the rinnegan, and understands better how strong he is. It frightens her a little.
They sit like this for a better part of two hours, taking only short breaks so that she could write notes. Sasuke does not say a word, but she is reassured by the sounds of his even breathing. Sometimes she indulges in the sight of the soft lines of his lips, slightly parted, and wonders what it would be like to kiss him. Somehow, despite everything, she feels twelve again.
“Sakura,” he says, catching her wrist in his hand, “let’s stop for tonight. You’re getting tired.”
She blinks and realizes that she has used an immense amount of chakra by intricately tracing his pathways. She lets her arms fall to her lap. Sasuke’s hand lingers for a moment, before he returns it to his side.
She sighs and sits next to him, her back leaning against the couch. She glances at him, blushes, and decides to lean her head against his shoulder. It’s the least he could do, she decides, although she feels slightly apprehensive.
“There’s something else I want to show you,” he tells her quietly, apparently fine with this act of intimacy, and adds, “if you’re not too tired.”
Without lifting her head, she replies, “I’m fine.”
He is silent, and then she feels his fingers on her forehead, just as she had felt them on the day he left for his journey. She remembers the warmth from then, and feels it even stronger now, and realizes that he is transferring chakra to her.
“Sasuke-ku—”
“Just wait,” he tells her, keeping his fingers on her forehead. She closes her eyes.
Suddenly her mind is filled with images—they are hazy, as if she was in a dream, and she realizes it is the Konoha from more than a decade ago. This is the sharingan’s genjutsu, she thinks, and it is so real that she feels the heat of the sun on her cheeks.
She sees a young Sasuke, at four years old, sitting next to Itachi. No, she thinks, these are Sasuke-kun’s memories, and watches as the young Itachi pulls his brother over his lap.
“Big brother will always protect you, Sasuke,” she hears him say, and tries not to cry when she sees the unabashed admiration in the little Sasuke’s face and the tragedy that awaits him.
The scene switches, and she sees a slightly older Sasuke running towards Itachi, who is dressed in full ANBU attire. There is another Uchiha member with disheveled hair leaning against the residence’s front door, presumably waiting for Itachi, and smiling at Sasuke.
This is what his family was like, she muses, before he had lost everything.
“Maybe next time, Sasuke,” she recognizes the words coming out of Itachi’s mouth, before the young Sasuke is tapped on the forehead in the same way she had been.
Her heart clenches.
“Sorry, Sasuke,” the other Uchiha says, “let me borrow your brother for a bit.”
Sakura is filled with a carefree feeling when she sees the young Sasuke’s expression, pouting like the child that he had been. Even Sasuke-kun can make faces like these, she thinks, and briefly remembers similar expressions he had made in their genin days.
He spares her the images of the massacre, she realizes, because they are suddenly on top of a building, surrounded by a vast forest, and she can see Sasuke, around the age he was three years ago, in a black attire. She sees Itachi, bloody, stalking towards him.
“Sorry, Sasuke,” she hears him say with his last breath, “but there won’t be a next time.”
She feels the sensation of Itachi’s fingers on her forehead, the force of the knowledge that he had left with Sasuke swirling in her head.
The scene switches again, and they are now in a cave, and Sasuke is dressed in the same attire he had been wearing during the war. There is a bright light coming from across the room, and she is surprised to see that it is Itachi, with edo tensei eyes.
He is dissipating, she notes, and her mood plummets, now overshadowed by a deep sadness that she has never felt until now.
“…you don’t ever have to forgive me. And no matter what you do from here on out, know this… I will love you always.”
She can feel the weight of Itachi’s forehead against hers, and the complete helplessness that is coursing through Sasuke. She feels as if she cannot breathe, the pain in her chest wound so tightly that she gasps achingly. She realizes that she is suffering for real, that this pain mirrors the one that Sasuke had felt even more profoundly, and that there are hot tears rolling down her face.
Sasuke quickly releases her from the genjutsu. She lets out a small cry as he wraps a strong arm around her shoulders.
He is silent as she cries, his fingers gripping her shoulder reassuringly. Her mind is blank, she cannot even begin to comprehend what has just happened, but she knows that she has never felt anything like it.
Sasuke had shared his memories and feelings of his brother with her, in a way that only members of the Uchiha clan could.
“The Uchiha clan valued love and friendship above all else,” Sasuke tells her, his voice steady and calm, “and feels everything too deeply. When that feeling consumes them, the sharingan awakens. That is the Uchiha clan’s curse of hatred.”
Sakura has nothing to say. The words echo in her head, and she cannot stop trembling. She leans into Sasuke in an attempt to calm herself, and feels him tighten his arm around her, the warmth of his breath on the top of her head.
She falls asleep in his embrace.
