So, what was Mytho doing in the years between his arrival in the real world and the time when he met Rue and Fakir?
So we know the story began to affect the real world at least before Fakir was born. We can figure this through two points:
1. Fakir was born with the scar of the Knight, which would only happen if the story had started, i.e. Mytho and the Raven had emerged.
2. Rue was a baby when she was kidnapped by the Raven. Rue and Fakir are implied to be siblings, with Rue as the elder.
So the Raven, and thus Mytho, came out of the story several years before Mytho met Rue or Fakir, probably a year or so before Fakir was even born.
What on earth was Mytho doing during all that time alone?
When we see him rescue Rue, he's obviously in dire straits. Torn up, dirty, dehydrated, wandering the streets. But for someone like him - emotionless, unaware of most danger, new to the real world - the fact that he was even stumbling by is pretty amazing. Since we see throughout the show that he is completely incapable of functioning to survive, how was this possible?
Was somebody looking after him, keeping him alive? Were the townspeople making sure he was getting by? But even that part seems unlikely since Charon acts like he had never seen or heard of him before Fakir brings him home. Surely a white-haired homeless boy with a sword would've drawn a little notice in a small town?
So what was going on with Mytho during those years? The only possibility I can think of is that Drosselmeyer may have kept Mytho in some sort of twilight state immediately after he emerged from the story, maybe even within his 'puppet' realm, for safe-keeping until the rest of the cast was ready and the story could resume. After all, he can't have the prince dying so pointlessly while the other characters are still babies. This also would explain why he still looks like he came fresh from battle when he meets Rue - he technically did.
Anyways, more questions than answers here, really, so if any of you have thoughts or ideas about this, I'd love to hear them!
