for National Coming Out Day

I guess I have a weird relationship with “coming out.” Partly it’s the concept itself—what does it mean to “come out?” what qualifies as such? And partly it’s whether there is or is not a point to it, at least individually for me.

When I think of “coming out,” I think of an announcement. Like some grand gesture, the way people post Facebook statuses for all their friends to become aware at once. Or like sitting your parents or your partner down to talk and telling them intimately and seriously.

When I think of all the ways I’ve identified myself as queer, none of them ever felt like “coming out.” I don’t remember ever sitting anybody down and being like, “This is what I am! Any questions?” But maybe I did and I just don’t recall.

I remember questioning, and discussing. Particularly a conversation in the car with my mom when I was in high school, when I had found the word “asexual” on the internet and I floated it as what I might be. She suggested it could be caused by trauma or other disruptions at crucial development points (like moving states when I might have developed crushes, and an abusive situation when I might have developed sexual attraction), and that it was okay even if I never did feel that way. I don’t think I had intended that conversation to go that direction, but it was good that it did.

There have been conversations about limits in my lifestyle life that became conversations about my gender identity. My partner knows sometimes I want to be treated like a boy, and that for the most part I cringe when feminine labels are applied emphatically to me, and our relationship has become much more fluid and flexible and queer at least linguistically as a result of those lifestyle negotiations and discussions.

I’ve advocated for gender neutral circle colors on a chat room I go to (which was in the works according to the site admin anyway, but still! success!) and use masculine pronouns there (and have all my oddball identifiers in my profile); Facebook uses they/them for me; I’ve regularly shared memes, surveys, and other things about asexuality, pronouns, and LGBTQ, queer, and trans topics.

It never felt like “coming out,” though.

And then I get to: Why bother doing it anyway? What does it change to shout it from the rooftops?

But I know that this comes from a place of privilege for me—I’ve never felt like I had to hide who I was. I go from questioning to certain to casually out, privately like... like dyeing your hair and not asking your friends for input, and not sharing before and after pictures, I guess. (It’s hard to find an analog to “coming to a conclusion or making a decision privately and then not announcing the process or the result on social media” at this point, it turns out.) Anyway, I’ve had conversations about my identity with my partner, of course, because it does affect him and our relationship; I’ve discussed it in groups on Facebook about these identities, because having outlets and kind of taking on an advice-giver role are good for my mental health; and I’ve discussed it with my siblings, though mostly as part of a larger discussion about what gender identity and sexual orientation mean for people. But my friends I have on Facebook or people in other spaces of my life don’t necessarily need to know this information, so why share?

But, I know representation matters. And that’s not just for TV shows and movies, that’s for real-life, too. I don’t think coming out is as important as being out, and I’ve always been out, inasmuch as I’ve thought it relevant.

So, I guess this, then, is a “coming out” post? even though I’m doing it on Tumblr with an audience of no one with no intention of making this A Thing... here goes: I’m a genderfluid asensual aromantic asexual, possibly demiboy or masculine-of-center though I am most frequently in “blob” state (neutral, maybe agender?). I think I spend about 80% of my life in blob, 15% in masc and the last 5% feeling fem. And if I could find a word for “sometimes has exaggerated romantic ideas about one or two women, but they’re more about romantic gestures than feelings” that’s a word I’d add to my alphabet soup as well, though I prefer to avoid further microlabels since it’s already a lot as it is.

Re-reading those last couple of sentences reminds me why I rarely talk about this lol. What an absolute mouthful. Ah well. People are complicated and I am, indeed, a people. Cheers to that.

Aro-Spec Pride

Summary: Logan is not one to scroll through Tumblr. However, he's glad of the one time he did.

Word Count: 916

Logan didn’t often spend time on sites such as Tumblr, he found it pointless to waste time looking at pictures with humorous captions when he could be doing something productive. Sometimes, though, he found it necessary. Logan would often help write the scripts for Thomas’ videos. Usually, he was in charge of the research behind them but he did enjoy coming up with plot lines and ideas as well.

Today was one of those days when Logan was trying to find new video ideas for Roman, usually, this consisted of him looking online to see what the fans liked from past videos. However, one problem of him looking on social media sites was him finding things that didn’t relate to the videos. Most of the time he found it annoying, but this time he was intrigued.

The post he had found was of a photo, but not the normal ‘memes’ as Virgil liked to call them. It was of the Aromantic flag with different colored text written over the top. The text read: 'AroSpec Awareness Week Feb 16- Feb 22.' It had caught Logan’s eye because he was Aromantic or Aro as most people called it.

For the next few hours, Logan lost himself in Tumblr posts all surrounding Aro-Spec Awareness Week. He found posts of people talking about their experiences with being on the spectrum, he saw ‘memes,’ and he ever saw edits and fanart of him and his fellow sides all decked out in green.

And Logan was happy, happy that there was an entire week dedicated to the spectrum he was on. And as he scrolled through more posts Logan decided that he wanted to do something to celebrate as well.

It took some time before Logan decided what he wanted to do, and when he did he decided that he was going to need some help. Yes, he could just summon what he wanted but Logan wasn’t the best when it came to summoning. That was Roman’s domain. So, the logical side approached the one who would be the best equipped to help him. Virgil.

Logan stood in front of the dark purple door, not bothering to hesitate as he knocked. It swung open to reveal the side he was looking for.

“Hey, Lo." Virgil said, “what’s up?”

“I need your help,” Logan said.

The anxious side stifled a yawn as he looked at him through his bangs. “Let me guess, you need my help in telling Princey off again?”

Logan chucked “no, I need your help with a project I am working on.”

“Okay, what project?”

Now, this was the moment in which the intellectual side paused “do you know what Aro-Spec Awareness Week is?”

“Yeah.” Virgil said, “what about it?"

“Well, as you are aware. I am Aromantic” Logan said, “so since there is a week dedicated to ‘Aro Pride and Awareness’ I thought I would make something to show my support.”

“And you need my help with it?” Virgil clarified.

“Yes.”

The darker aspect paused, thinking it over before nodding “okay, yeah I’ll help you.”

“Excellent.”

“Cool," Virgil said, “so why don’t you tell me what you're thinking.” Logan nodded before he began to explain his thought process.

It had taken a couple of days to finish Logan’s Project, luckily it was still Aro-Spec Awareness Week when he did. To be honest, if it hadn’t been for Virgil’s help Logan didn’t know if he would have known where to start. Let alone finish it.

It was towards the end of the week when Logan walked downstairs to breakfast wearing his new, handmade necktie. The tie was hand-dyed in the colors of the Aromantic flag and hand sewed, two things Logan (originally) didn’t know how to do. Luckily, Virgil had some experience from when he had made his patchwork hoodie. Logan knew that Virgil had both dyed and sewn the patches unto the jacket, which was why he had come to his darker counterpart in the first place.

“Ahh, Logan!” Patton cried when he saw him, throwing his arms around the logical side “you look so good!”

“Uh thank you, Patton,” Logan said. Untangling himself from his friend’s arms and clearing his throat slightly.

“Wow Specs, only you could find a way to show pride in the nerdiest way possible,” Roman said with a smirk.

“...Thank you, Roman.” To be honest Logan didn’t understand his friends’ reactions. After all, they shouldn’t be that surprised. In Thomas’ videos, he did tend to wear the same necktie, yes, but in the Mind Place, he wore a variety of ties. Wanting to understand Logan questioned them about their reaction.

“I’m just so proud,” Patton said “you never really show off any kind of expression of your identity. Even after you came out.”

“Yeah, the rest of us have always shown off a little bit of self-expression. Roman does with his personality and Patton wears his flag’s colors on a bracelet.” Virgil gestured to the friendship bracelet that Patton wore.

“And I do it in my jacket,” Virgil continued gesturing to his black and purple jacket that they all knew was to represent his Asexuality. “But you don’t do anything.”

“Yes, I am aware,” Logan said, “however, I thought that now was the perfect time to do so.”

“Why?” Roman asked.

“It is Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week.” Logan explained “or Aro-Spec Awareness Week as I’ve found most people calling it.”

“That’s so cool!” Patton said with a wide grin.

Logan smiled back “I agree.”

MoonClaw Makes A Rant

[Something that’ll probably be deleted since it’s petty nonsense. For those of you unacquainted/I haven’t made it clear, MoonClaw is my name OORP. If you ever see a MoonClaw anywhere [most likely on DA or Discord, though I haven’t been on DA in a while], it’s probably me.

Rant under the cut.

I am going to state it here and now, and I’m going to make it clear to anyone who is taking the time to read my words. I am uncomfortable around nsfw shite. In general. I do not mind if it is tagged/there’s a keep reading, but I would prefer to keep it away from me.

I hope I have made it evident my stance on me personally doing NSFW roleplaying. It’s in my rules if you have not read it, there is a mobile rules tag for those who cannot see the actual pages themselves. If it doesn’t work, tell me so I can make it work.

That being said, I know some people are probably thinking ‘well if you have such a big problem, why come to Tumblr, a site notorious for porn and horny people being on here 24/7?’

Because this is one of the few places where the 40k community exists that I can have access to. Before I joined, I had no one. I am a hermit. Discord was out, as most servers were either dead or Patreon only if they were a YouTuber’s server. I don’t like other huge social media platforms for a slew of reasons that do not belong in this rant. 

Anywhere I went, I had a thing I enjoyed that no one knew about. I had to introduce it to people, which I had no problem with, but then I can’t really try to explain theories/bring up tidbits of lore that I find interesting and discuss them without having to explain a huge prelude.

And trust me, people do NOT like reading all of the stuff I made nerdish rants about elsewhere. And by elsewhere, I mean a site that no one (save one) person will know of. It was and still kind of is a site I frequent, and I had been roleplaying there for years. 

The 40k base there consists of maybe three people, and only I was active. 

Trying to explain the lore there was hard and people generally stopped listening around the explanation of psykers and the Warp. Maybe it’s the way I was writing it, maybe it’s due to there being too much to explain. I don’t know. I’ve only been told ‘wow that’s a lot’ and people stop reading.

That explanation aside, why did I choose Tumblr?

Tumblr had a really cool art community, from what I saw, and it had an rp community too. Sweet. It took me some time to get over my nerves, but I joined. And I’m glad I did, for the most part. All of the new people I’ve been able to meet, talk, or merely just rp with seem really chill. There’s not much of the community I have qualms with.

It is petty and childish for me to have such an aversion for sex. And usually it doesn’t bother me.

Until it’s plastered all over my dash and it’s virtually inescapable. 

For a few hours at a time, sometimes.

THAT is when I have a problem. And I don’t know why. I’m trying to force myself to get over it. So many other people are fine with it, but with me? I just... start feeling awkward. Weird. And when it’s everywhere, I just feel like it’s almost stifling in a way. I sometimes get anxious. 

‘Then just leave the dash!’ I do. I have done that. When I was drawing last night, I was doing that to distract me from what was going on. I do check in every once in a while to see when it’s ‘safe’ for me to return and look at memes or new posts or something, or to see if someone responded to a thread of mine (which, I know, I’ve been horrifically lazy with responding with this week, but I’ll try to start getting replies out tonight/tomorrow). 

I don’t know why I have this aversion. Maybe it’s due to me being asexual. Maybe it’s some other mental bullshit I don’t know about. Maybe it’s just me being a bitch. I don’t know, but I’m slowly trying to force myself to get out of this mindset. 99% of the world is allosexual. 99% of the world wants a sexual partner. [Probably more accurate to 99.5% since sex-positive aces do indeed exist and I do not wish to erase them]. I need to get over it. This is going to be my life, and I need to accept that. This is petty and childish. I shouldn’t be dealing with it like this, there’s more than likely something wrong with me.

So here’s an Extremely Unpopular Hot-Take/Opinion(tm):

My Asexual and sex-repulsed self is honestly kind of glad(?) that I’ll be able to scroll around on the ol' Tumblargh dot com and not see random and unexpected jiggly bits anymore.

Yes, I am trying to stand in solidarity with sex workers and artists and all, but it also feels good to be able to look at a blog that I expect to be cats or trees or fashion photography or surrealist art and not get blindsided by, oh, two people HUMPING EACH OTHER'S FACES. Okay, moving on and then AGGRESSIVE EJACULATE FACIALS. Well, damn. How about some SURPRISE TOPLESS WOMEN. Okay, can we not??? Please???

People use the term "triggered" way too much, but I'm going to admit it: yes, seeing porn is generally pretty upsetting to me. Between the sex-repulsion and the body dysmorphia it brings on, it's not fun.

So, I know it's a minority opinion, but seeing random penises on my dash was always basically equivalent to receiving unwanted dick-pics as far as I was concerned: fucking nasty.

And I really had zero idea that so many people were on this site for porn. I think that was what really left me shocked. I thought, sure, there's a subset of users who were here for porn, as is the case for most websites, but I figured most of us were here for cats and trees and fanart and memes and stuff like that. 

But apparently I was astonishingly wrong and I'm kind of skeeved out by that.

Am I unhappy about how many people are fleeing the site? For sure. Am I going to miss people who are leaving? Absolutely. Will I miss rando fucking genitals on my dash? Fucking no I will not.

And we are operating our blogs on a privately-owned website, so they can say what can and can't happen here--this isn't a 1st Amendment thing. To borrow from Tom Lehrer, arguments about freedom of speech and stifling of free expression and so on are great, but this isn't a freedom of speech issue. It's simply a matter of freedom of pleasure, a right which is not guaranteed by the Constitution (unfortunately).

Anyway, I'm sticking around here because I don't really feel any need to leave. And, in some ways, I feel more comfortable here now than I did before. And that’s my unpopular opinion.

My Unpopular Opinions of 2018

This is messy, a bit mean, and full of my mad/irritated feelings. You’ve been warned. No slipping into my asks as an anon to fight with me because I’ve posted this on my account. These are my opinions and I’ve already said that they aren’t that nice to some shows

1) Charmed and Black Lightning are the only good CW shows and it has the best lesbian rep of 2018 (and Rosa from b99 would be the best bisexual rep)

2) Melanie Scrofano/Wynonna Earp is the best part of Wynonna Earp. Honestly lately the rest of the characters for me have either awful or boring or funny but given nothing to do

3) Also even though she’s the main actress, Melanie is somehow the most underrated actress/character in the show. She’s disregarded by so many fans, either in favor of Wayhaught or Doc, and the show treats her like shit by constantly putting her with Doc

4) Descendants fans who pit Dove Cameron and China Anne McClain against each other in the hopes of making the other seem superior are doing absolutely nothing for their careers and are contributing to the unnecessary comparison between successful women

5) Also I don’t care if you don’t like Dove Cameron, but hating her for that Mal/Harry comment she made months ago is so fucking ridiculous. She’s a girl in love who also loves her character, god forbid she make her own headcanons for it, and it wasn’t like she was asking for it to happen (and no she wasn’t disregarding Mal’s current relationship Ben because she was talking about Mal and Harry being exes god damnit)

14) I have no respect and cannot get along with people who talk about how ugly people are 

15) The hellsite is shit for so many reasons but some of its worst qualities are when people take a situation and make it black and white, have zero sympathy or empathy for other people, and twist peoples words and put in meanings that were never there

16) I also hate how how people only care about mental illness when it doesn’t come to their jokes or memes. For example, mental health has been talked about a lot in regards to Ariana Grande, which is good, but once her engagement with Pete Davidson ended, no one hesitated to attack him in almost every way possible even though the man has been very outspoken about his depression. I don’t know shit about Pete Davidson but I’ve seen him relentlessly be attacked and have his depression and suicidal thoughts be joked about. 

17) Stanning is a fucked up culture that we need to leave behind in 2018. There are some celebrities who have a lot of projects that I love and I admire their talent, but the concept of stanning either includes an unhealthy amount of devotion to a celebrity or it erases them as a human being and reduces them down to objects. In some cases, both of these are true. It’s a sick thing for both fans and the celebrities. If a celebrity does something wrong, call them out, and if they don’t listen, well forget it or move on. Cancelling them as if they can be thrown in the garbage and disposed of promotes negativity and hatred, which is doesn’t solve anything, and it can inhibit any growth from that celebrity. They are human and will inevitably fuck up. It’s the only way to learn and grow. 

18) This is about Wynonna Earp but it’s a serious post. I’ve made my thoughts about this show abundantly clear but there is one thing I haven’t talked about at all and that’s the racism in the show and in the fanbase. Disclaimer: I am white. This show hasn’t treated any of their poc or black characters well. The latest example would be the treatment of Dolls and Kate. The last two seasons Doc has had two women of color as his love interests, and both of these characters have been treated as objects to make Wynonna jealous. There is also the lack of story and villainization of these women. There is also the major lack of story with Dolls, which most likely led to Shamier Anderson’s decision to leave. I won’t get into anymore, this is how I’ve always viewed these poor storylines, but I will say this: white fans of Wynonna Earp, we do not get a say on how black viewers should feel about any of these storylines. White lesbians, you would be livid is Waverly or Nicole were killed, and rightfully so. Black people or people of color probably felt the rage you would’ve felt if you lost one of those characters when Dolls was killed off. Telling people to get over it is cruel. If people want to stop watching, that is their right. We have no place in telling them how they should feel about the treatment of their representation.

20) Everyone needs a break from social media. I know that for some people, it really helps because we have friends on here that we can talk to, but it also has so many negative effects. The real world is nothing like this toxic website. You should take breaks from it every once in a while. You need to get hobbies. You need some other past time than this website. The majority of people on this site aren’t good and everyone should take a breather from it. I take breaks from this site on a regular basis and when I do it feels so fucking good. 

21) Random but The Lodgers is the worst movie ever and it’s an even worse horror movie. Would not recommend. Unless you feel like roasting something for an hour and a half. The only good part about watching that movie was that I watched it with my roommate who I am good friends with and we laughed our asses off and made fun of it so much. It is truly awful. Even though I had a blast roasting it, I will never get that time of my life back. 

22) The Last Jedi does not deserve that 91% on rotten tomatoes. Just like how The Lodgers deserves far less than 56%.

23) Time to get serious again. I get that a lot of us wished that the shows we loved were real, but they aren’t. That’s a fact that everyone needs to realize and accept. To me, hating an actor for their character’s actions is just as fucked up as stanning. They aren’t their character. They are not responsible for the shit their characters pull. They are carrying out the story written for them. As for writers, sometimes the writers do not support their characters actions either. Just because the character is evil or mean or whatever does not always mean that the people who work behind the curtain support that. 

24) Shipping real people and harassing them is sooo inappropriate and messed up. I shouldn’t really have to explain this one but too many people on this site don’t seem to grasp it. I mean, didn’t Harry Styles say a while ago that all the smutty fanfics, tweets, and fanarts about him and his bandmates effect his friendships with him? Him reacting that way is not homophobic, btw. It is him reacting naturally to people fetishizing and sexualizing him and his friends. These are real people. Their relationship, sexuality, and god just so much of their lives is none of our business. They don’t owe us any information about their personal lives. We don’t own them. They are their own people, which also means that they make their own mistakes. 

25) Random again, but original Charmed fans put their show too high of a pedestal. I never got really into show. I tried it, think I watched half of the first season, and I did a little research on it and I was in the fanbase for a hot sec but it was very short. From my research, it seems to me, that for a feminist show, the cast (except Shannon Doherty) was the opposite behind the scenes. I know you can’t help who you don’t like but you can control how you talk about someone, especially to the public, and from what I’ve seen there’s been more negative comments from them about their castmates than positive. I don’t think anyone will know the whole story but to me the feud between the og’s leading ladies has always very catty to me, and it’s gotten even worse with the remake. You can be protective of your show without being rude. You don’t have to support the remake, and you can do that without being rude either. By the way, this is more directed towards Holly Marie Combs, who I believe has been the most outspoken about being against it. Three young actresses are doing the job they love and they were given a chance to be the new charmed ones for a new generation. There is no reason to be so negative about it. It looks even more immature when you see the cast of the original Sabrina who gleefully gave their support to the new cast. 

26) Adults please stop thinking every show is for you. it’s not. Some shows are for kids, some shows are for teenagers, and some shows are for you. If you enjoy the show that’s directed towards a younger audience then that’s great. If you don’t enjoy it, then that’s fine too. What is not fine is you acting like that show was meant for you and tearing it apart and bullying people of that directed age group online. I can’t believe the amount of times I’ve seen some 19-40 year old dipshit on the internet go and bully a 15 year old only because they said they loved a show. That is not only sick and immature but it’s uncalled for. 

27) Also 15 year olds or younger, do not use your age as an excuse to be mean either. You might be young and you will definitely make huge mistakes, but there’s is nothing to justify you telling someone to kill themselves or insulting them just because they don’t like your favorite character or something. You might not be as experienced as some adults, but you’re old enough to know what the fuck you’re doing and how wrong it is. Don’t be cruel and blame it on you being young and stupid. You maybe young and all of us will always be a bit stupid, but that does not excuse your behavior. And @ older people who do that shit too, your older age and power does not excuse your cruelty either. Nothing excuses telling someone to kill themselves. Ever. Especially if it’s over a goddamn tv show. 

28) Can Ryan Murphy please just make one tv show and stick with it until it ends? He has so many great concepts but because he wants to do all of them at once they all go downhill after one season. 

29) On the same but different note, fuck Ryan Murphy for having Violet and Tate get back together. My girl deserves better than a serial killer/rapist that also got her mom killed because he impregnated her with the anti christ. Fuck that.

36) Class’s first season was significantly better than Torchwoods first season. You guys are just mean. 

37) While I adore Class, Patrick Ness’s dialogue was really YIKES sometimes (the Charlie April deleted scene nearly killed me). Overall it was good though because it was the closest depiction of how teens speak.

38) Also any teen drama show that has a teen speak seriously in a hashtag should burn in hell (if a hashtag is used in dialogue as joke then it’s fine because it’s funny)

39) An actor being on a show you don’t like does not warrant hate

40) It’s been two years since Class but still, fuck the dw fans who were/are so mean to the class actors, especially Vivian Oparah and Sophie Hopkins.

Wishshipping:

 I think my feelings on Wishshipping are probably known to everyone in the entire universe at this point, but I will never pass up a chance to talk about them again because they are actually perfect. 

Setting aside the fact that they were designed to be perfectly compatible (even down to their zodiac; it’s clear that Takahashi put thought into it, and he specifically picked Yuugi to be a Gemini and Jounouchi to be an Aquarius, which most zodiac sites rate as being “soulmate” level of compatibility), we actually see just how well they work together, how much stronger they are together, how they build each other up and support each other throughout the course of the manga. We see them come together after a rocky start in which Jounouchi originally bullied Yuugi (though, notably, never saw him as weak and grows offended at the thought that he’s bullying a weaker person---like, he knows Yuugi is shy and quiet, but he doesn’t equate that to weakness), and though they have a few hiccups in the beginning (like Yuugi saying he doesn’t believe there’s an idol at the school and Jounouchi storming off in a huff---Jounouchi isn’t really angry, but Yuugi worries that he is because they don’t know each other very well yet), we see just how quickly they gel and mesh together. By the third chapter, Jounouchi is already so loyal and attached to Yuugi that when he notices Yuugi seems to be feeling down, he gets very passionate about showing support and being there for him, urging Yuugi to share his burdens so that he can help. By the eleventh chapter, when it seems that Jounouchi has returned to Hirutani’s game of his own volition, Yuugi is the one to feel in his heart that Jounouchi hasn’t changed and that he just needs help, something that even Honda doubts until Yuugi offers his support and encouragement. (And note: I’m not dragging Honda here. I’m just saying that Yuugi and Jounouchi’s bond was already so strong that Yuugi wasn’t giving up, and that it’s notable when you look at how Honda was ready to give up, confused and hurt as he was about it, despite having known Jounouchi since junior high.) And we only see them grow closer from there. We see that Jounouchi is the one to offer speeches of support in both Death-T and Duelist Kingdom. We see that he’s ready to stand in the midst of a raging fire with Yuugi, even as he internally pledges that he refuses to let Yuugi die. We see Yuugi not even hesitate when it comes to giving Jounouchi the prize money so that Shizuka’s eyesight can be saved, and he also takes off the Millennium Puzzle so that Atem cannot interfere and take over during the pier duel, giving it to Jounouchi as he prepares to sacrifice his life to save Jounouchi’s own. (Only for Jounouchi to turn right around and attempt to sacrifice himself to save Yuugi instead.) The night before the Ceremonial Duel, Yuugi seeks out Jounouchi so the two of them can talk, because he wants to confide his plans for the Ceremonial Duel with someone, and Jounouchi is that someone. And during the Ceremonial Duel, Jounouchi is the one who wholeheartedly believes in Yuugi’s ability to win, internally urging him to show Atem his strength. Their love, support, and belief in one another is unparalleled. It never falters, wavers, or comes even close to breaking. They are always first in line to support and encourage the other. Even Atem doubts Yuugi (during the pier duel), but Jounouchi never does. Hell, Jounouchi offers to fistfight Atem if Atem makes Yuugi feel bad or insecure again, and while that offer is a bit shortsighted (it’s still Yuugi’s body, Jounouchi), the intention is plain as day. Jounouchi is Yuugi’s #1 fan, and likewise, Yuugi is Jounouchi’s (well---he might need to wrestle Shizuka for top spot, admittedly). Neither one of them will stand for the other doubting himself. Neither one of them will ever stop believing in the other.

Along with that, we see just how much they genuinely love and enjoy each other’s company. They don’t just cry on each other’s shoulders when needed---they laugh and play together, too. Yuugi introduces Jounouchi to Duel Monsters, and when Kaiba is an elitist asshole who refuses to play with them “until [they] collect 10,000 cards,” Yuugi calms Jounouchi down by promising him that they can still play together. They go to the arcade together, and while one might expect Jounouchi to get upset that Yuugi easily aces all the games that Jounouchi himself struggles with, he doesn’t. He just smiles and is so, so amused and fond of the fact that Yuugi is so instantly good at every game he touches. They play Monster Fighter together and, again, genuinely enjoy doing so. Jounouchi is really good at putting together garage kits, and Yuugi tries his hand at one after he sees this, and so on and so forth. Yuugi allows and encourages Jounouchi to be the super mega nerd he always has been deep down (yet hid because that’s not something that would have been seen as “cool or manly” in middle school), and likewise, Yuugi is never afraid about sharing his new interests with Jounouchi, because Jounouchi will be just as excited as he is (and again, we see this, time and again---look how excited they both got at having their digital pets mate, with none of them giving a thought as to how that wording sounded). Even when it comes to less savory interests, such as how they’re both big pervs who watch porn together (and yes, together, this was confirmed in the Millennium Book), well . . . those are interests and activities they share. They have fun together, and love each other’s company not just for the support and strength they find in each other, but also in that they have genuine fun together, without being shamed or teased or embarrassed about it. Yuugi and Jounouchi can be (and are) themselves around each other, 100%, and that’s beautiful.

They are best friends, absolutely and undoubtedly and unreservedly, but that’s precisely what makes the notion of them falling in love---and especially the notion of Yuugi’s “I love you” being romantic, which it could have been due to the context and strong language used---so perfect. Your romantic partner should be your best friend, and Yuugi and Jounouchi are, inarguably, each other’s best friend. They could easily build a life together, and given all of the build-up they have in (manga) canon, it’s more than simple to see a logical progression following where they do. They are perfect. Undoubtedly so.

Euroshipping:

I’m not nearly as passionate about Euroshipping as I am Wishshipping (though then again, that’s a tall order for any ship), but I do still like it, and it’s about the only ship I really like for either Kaiba or Bakura.

I mean, I still view Bakura as pretty much aromantic/asexual, possibly demiromantic/demisexual. And I view Kaiba as demiromantic/demisexual, with a very low sex drive. So even just in terms of romantic/sexual compatibility, I think they work well together because Bakura’s asexuality and lack of desire for sex won’t be a big deal for Kaiba, who also has a low desire for sex most of the time and as such isn’t very interested in that anyway.

Outside of that, though, I do think they really do work well together. Bakura doesn’t have the history with Kaiba that the others do (namely Death-T), and as such he, as he points out himself during Duelist Kingdom, doesn’t have the same level of vitriol and negative feelings for Kaiba that the rest of the members of the squad do. He recognizes that Kaiba has done some bad things in the past, but Kaiba’s apparent love for and desire to rescue his little brother Mokuba makes Bakura feel inclined to give him a chance. I think that, in terms of giving Kaiba that chance, Bakura would be the best candidate. He has already shown the willingness, and he doesn’t have pre-existing bias to complicate that willingness the way the others do. He’s also far less easily provoked by baits and taunts than the others are, which means that Kaiba’s abrasive personality really isn’t likely to bother him very much. Although Bakura is a shy person (and more timid than Yuugi ever was, tbh), he’s also got a hell of a lot of inner strength, and so I think that he would be able to navigate and deal with the times when Kaiba might get short or snippy. And without someone getting defensive and shouting at him, Kaiba would be able to take the time to realize that what he said was perhaps not the greatest, and thus would be more likely to apologize for it (in his own way). Lastly, Bakura was a big brother himself, and so I think that he would make a great secondary big brother for Mokuba. He’d fit right in.

On top of Bakura being a good fit for Kaiba, I also think Kaiba is a good fit for Bakura. Again, aside from Kaiba’s own sexuality jiving well with Bakura’s, Kaiba is every bit as introverted as Bakura is. While Bakura does wish to be part of the squad and often feels as if he has to self-isolate (at which point Jounouchi kicks down his door and says “NAH”), the truth remains that Bakura is still happy to spend time at home, designing his TRPGs or else writing letters to his deceased little sister (ouch). Kaiba, too, is pretty damn introverted, and so the idea of spending time at home playing games with another person (or else watching a movie, et cetera) is one that’s going to sound far more appealing to him than going out and doing things. This is especially true since Kaiba is the type who likes to fixate on one person and lavish attention on them; this was always a problem with Atem, because Atem was sharing his body with another + wanted to spend more time with the squad than he did with Kaiba. But Bakura, while he does love his other friends as well, does need someone who will pay him more special attention, and Kaiba is definitely the type of person who is attentive enough to be able to do that. At the same time, as extra as he can be at times, he tends to show affection in more subtle ways; this, too, fits well with Bakura, who I think is the type to appreciate gestures over grand, embarrassing displays and overt flirting.

Lastly, they have a lot of interests in common. Obviously they both love playing games, but they both love designing games as well. Kaiba runs KaibaCorp, and Bakura designs TRPGs. They both have scrupulous attention to detail, because Kaiba won’t allow his company to release a product unless it’s perfect, and Bakura hand-designs all of his TRPG figures so that they look dead-on accurate. On top of this, they both have similar tastes in horror and the macabre; we know that Bakura, in his own words, “loves grotesque things,” and Kaiba’s flair in Murder Mansion shows a definite affection for horror and slasher films. Bakura’s tastes may be too extreme for the squad, but they’re not for Kaiba---and likewise, I think Kaiba would appreciate having someone to watch horror films with, considering the fact that I bet they’re not really to Mokuba’s taste.

So while I’m not super passionate about it, I do think this is a really good pair and that they have a lot in common. They deserve more appreciation, for real.

Thief:

I really don’t see this one, sorry. :/

The “nonono” mostly comes from the fact that the only way it could take place is if the Spirit of the Ring was possessing Bakura, thereby removing Bakura’s bodily autonomy and consent. This is the same issue that I have with reciprocated Atem ships; outside of an AU where Atem and/or the Spirit of the Ring have their own bodies, it’s extremely unfair and downright disturbing to Yuugi and/or Bakura to have their bodies taken on romantic (and potentially sexual) joyrides. Even if they said, “yeah, that’s OK,” they can’t give the OK to literally everything that’s done while the spirits are in control. And while Atem is thankfully considerate enough of Yuugi to never do anything untoward while in the driver’s seat, we know from canon that the Spirit of the Ring does not feel the same way toward Bakura. He was removing Bakura’s agency long before Bakura even realized he was there, and afterward has since made it a point to either steal control, or else emotionally manipulate Bakura into handing the keys over. It’s not healthy, and I can’t feel comfortable shipping the Spirit of the Ring with anyone while he has to use Bakura’s body to make the ship work.

As for the “eh,” I just personally never really saw it. The Spirit of the Ring and Malik have fewer interactions in the manga, and the interactions they do have mostly just revolve around their deal. Aside from the Spirit of the Ring going from 0 to 100 real quick (within the space of four panels he goes from “oh you have a Millennium Item I see” to “I am going to murder you right here in broad daylight if you don’t give it to me”), they never really show interest in each other outside of the Spirit of the Ring wanting Malik to hand over the Millennium Rod, and Malik wanting the Spirit of the Ring to help him defeat Yuugi. The closest you get is that Malik does go to the Spirit of the Ring after his split personality takes over (in a bid to save Rishid), but even then, the Spirit of the Ring makes it pretty clear that he’s not doing this for Malik’s benefit. He really doesn’t give a damn whether Rishid lives or dies. He seriously just wants the Millennium Rod. Malik will take what he can get, of course, but I think it’s pretty apparent that the Spirit of the Ring really doesn’t care about him, and I think that what Malik does by going to him is more a show of desperation than anything else.

The anime does, I think, give them more interactions and ship tease, though, and The Abridged Series takes it up to eleven. I think I do ship it in the Abridged Series, mostly because Martin very blatantly wrote it in there, and I liked how he had them bickering like an old married couple. It was cute. But insofar as canon I don’t really go for it, personally. It’s just not really my thing.

That said, some of the art is goddamn gorgeous. I will give it that.

Sherlock in general should be more considerate of others, but let's face it, what are the odds of that happening?

A dress here, a suit there, and a little combination of the two separating the formal wear in her closet, she will grow up and find out that there is room for both her and him to share one body, even if at some points he can't Shift to suit her needs.
