im rereading one piece (i'll watch certain arcs too as i get into OP again)

and man i forget how much i loved the baratie arc especially seeing how luffy and sanji first interact... "i refuse your refusal!" is so good and while bickering like an old married couple, they both yell at gin simultaneously i love them so much

Have you seen the new Batman tv show Batman the caped crusader? Thoughts?

I just started it and haven't been able to fully catch up yet, but DAMN I am loving it, and this lovely lady stole the show for me instantly ⬇️

The animation and the story and the overall feel of it takes me back to what I loved most about BTAS, but it's also new and unique. The updates to different characters like Penguin and Harley are fun and I love it! there are also some fun call-backs to keep the nostalgia factor while also still giving us something new! I can't wait to see more and see where it leads. This really is a massive W for BTAS fans in my opinion.

would you guys call me crazy if i said archetype wise that marinette's status as a Plucky Girl-Next-Door takes priority over her status as an Aspirational Everywoman. cause i have thoughts about this

#i think the reason a lot of marinette depictions (especially aged-up ones) tend to fall flat for me is that they polish away her quirkiness #which partially makes sense as she would naturally become more confident and composed as she ages #but also in my mind as she comes into herself more she would only get *more* eccentric and quirky and silly #this falls into the same nitpick i have with giving marinette too many white and conventionally attractive features #like i can't and won't *stop* you but i don't understand why you wouldn't want to make your blorbitos look more distinct #(same goes with adrien. at least explain why of all face claims you seemingly chose ALEX PETTYFER.WHAT)#but depictions of adrien are its own thing I apologize for derailing #they just both get the brunt of this sort of phenomenon but marinette especially #is it because we're so used to seeing our fiction taken over by absurdly hot people? is it part of the enjoyment? art style limitations?#overwhelmingly white/european reference photos?#do some people not find marinette's awkward adhd charm as part of her appeal?#is it just a misunderstanding of the archetypes and tropes mlb plays off of?#or is the appeal seeing this clumsy 14 year old mature into a Strong Independent Badass Strong Awesome Woman #anyway I'd like more mlb semirealism artists to depict a marinette who looks so disheveled she's painful to look at #if it's not too much to ask.

Taking a rest day but I have to doodle at least a bit, and. Currently agonizing over if Moe should also be equipped w the Breidablik for loadbearing canon lore reasons. Which, I have MANY grievances about, from "Gee Moe why do you get TWO weapons this isn't a main series title where you can do that" to "Moe is A STAFF USER. FULL STOP. ALWAYS HAS BEEN." to "oh fucking god I do NOT want to learn How To Draw That."

But. Looking at the artbook. I had a Vision

Very minimal mockup but. That little thing, there. You could put a keychain on that. You could put little charms on that. You could. You could...

#i'm not quite redesigning moe but i am playing w a few diff concepts.#one i wish i could make work is some kind of askran noise cancellors. worn like headphones/earbuds but in that Style #the ideas are cute but i don't think they really work on moe. and the piercings being the primary focus is important to me #still. it would be neat to have a chara who uses visible disability aids. esp in a setting like feh w all the context of feh #ultimately a lot of moe's most important design features would get lost if you added too much to the head area though...#beyond that i'm testing adding more practical elements. a way to carry items...#something that ties into how a lot of the charas designs esp the askr siblings have strappy belts ect ect #maybe even something that evokes kink imagery. while honoring moe's particularness about pants #has to keep the animal hind legs like shape and has to not cling to the thighs. ect ect ect #i'm def just throwing spaghetti at the wall though. focally has to be easy enough to draw too #esppp to mirco organism it. that is FOCAL w my art #but i have been forcing myself to learn how to do alfonse's leg armor....... so........#ect ect ect main point. consider my visions boy. One of the interesting bits of trying to resume working on the game after so long is looking back at my ancient Draft Placeholder versions of an image from 4 yrs ago trying to remember what the hell I meant back then, to hopefully interpret it into some more final (ish..) form of the same thing .. making slow progress lol

#At this point I've decided it's just a consistent design decision to have the sketchy slightly wonky sort of art ghbjj #I simply don't have the digital art skills/tools/patience (mostly that) to do 100% digital things and have a Clean Polished Professional #Neat Looking Perfect Crisp Lines sort of thing like one would see in most games. I'm drawing everything in pencil half decently (not strict #ly making sure every line is straight or that the perspective even makes sense) and then scanning it in and coloring it on the computer #and that's about it. In another world I could hire an artist or two to do professional backgrounds and charcter art or etc. - but as I am #a mere penniless peasant hermit with functioning issues who has to do every aspect of everything themselves - I'm just going to do #what is possible within the time frame/my ability/etc. and then just be like ''ah you see! actually this is intentional~ it has a homemade #crafty hand drawn sort of charm about it - yes? this was the direction all along!!'' LOL #Which for the record I'm not like complaining that it's necssarily Bad or anything - more just I suppose not the Professional Polished #style you Typically see in a lot of things - again the like - sketchy unclean lines of it all.#(like I think usually people use some sort of symmetry tool to make sure that all sides of a box are neat and clean and have that #Professional Game Art type of feel about them - rather than 'this is a scan of scraggily pencil lines in which I did not even bother to use #a ruler or try to get them all that even' lol). So it's not that it's BAD really.#just I think.. perhaps ''unconventional'' compared to the examples of other #games I've looked at. BUT. the point is to convey an idea. I think your art has failed if you do not convey a concept properly. But so #long as it meets your purposes and is not SOO cluttered/scribbly that nobody can even tell what's going on (unless that IS your intention)#then like.. I think it's fine. You can tell a house is a house even if it's not polished. No worries. (<convincing myself)#ANYWAY.. also 'Nanyevimi Market Quest' is still SUCH a placeholder name but I genuinely can never think of anything else so #I've just been going with it for now ToT... There's no distinct actual throughline story/plot so there's no 'theme' to base a title #around. Kind of like how 'The Sims' is just called the sims because naming it like 'Sims: Downfall Of Pleasantview' (one of the #towns in TS2 i think) would be a weird misname since what happens in the game totally depends on what you choose to do with it #So you can't really name it anything THAT specific (a player might not even choose to have a house in Pleasantview. what then? etc).#So it's just like..uh well...GENERALLY speaking.. everyone is uh.. on a personal quest..vaguely.. which takes place in a Market street full #of shops.. and you are mostly talking to shopkeepers... BUT it's not just a Market Quest since it's also in a fantasy world.. so we need to #give the fantasy world name.. and that's about it. I'm just at a loss for anything else. Maybe the like 2 and a half playtesters I #manage to scrounge up will have better ideas ghhh.. 'Nanyevimi Quest: Get To Know Some Shopkeepers' 'Find A Job In Fantasy World' you could #say 'Market Adventure' but some would argue just having a bunch of conversations and wandering around is not much of a real adventure.#don't want to set people up for thinking there's any drama or combat or anything. 'Do Menial Errands For Mentally Ill Elves Simulator' ghjg #(also sidenote: the '''chibi'' style versions of the characters on the menu screen....EVIL.. that style is SOOO hard for me to draw in for #some reason.. I just can't get the proportions right/have trouble fully ''simplifying'' the design.. took me HOURS lol... aUGHh)

I rarely draw anything else. but her style differs a lot from other characters #mostly bc I draw them in avatarverse rather than modern au lol #but like. I also can’t remember the last time I drew light hair. it’s a lot harder to shade than dark IMO #(lightest I can remember doing is fem!EKB’s hair when I did PVL fanart last year. and this is even lighter than that)#(I was fighting for MY LIFE)#also I never draw makeup so figuring that out was a challenge #as well as tattoos. most I’ve ever done was P’Li’s/Nazra’s some years back. and Afarin’s/Midori’s. but the latter two are simple #and I trace the former 😅#and this style of painting over line art isn’t one I do too often #basically. I went all out. just for you <3 #but moving on #it’s not as refined or polished as I’d prefer but tbh I don’t have the energy to keep chipping away at her #I actually like how this looks and think some roughness in places adds to the charm. yk?#might go in and edit at some point. we’ll see #anyway. yeah. Like do y'all see why this is so fun for me?

The flat colours r hella off-putting, yeah, kinda, ig, I actually don't hate em sm, but the egg is so, not egg. It looks human. So quickly. I don't have to tell myself to trust the process 24/7 cuz the process is visible nearly immediately. My awfully detailed knowledge of facial shadows is finally paying off proper.

I love this. I'm in love with this approach. Art is fun again.

Though I can't use the overlay blend mode anymore which kinda sucks cuz when I tried his lips started looking ultra violet and like, yeah okay sickly or a tint of blue is fine perhaps even desired but brother looked like he ate neon blue text marker.

#this is gonna make sense #eventually #but this in-between has its own charm #i like detailed egg and everything else is just blob #i finished Gort earlier today but i'm putting him away for now and double checking later if i actually like how he turned out #so far i rly like him #though he turned out far too detailed #still kinda smudgy but it wasn’t what i was originally aiming for #anyway gotta fix his one's hair later #got a new fun kinda watercolour but not rly brush for hair #and its been a delight #and i may have just realised why i like this approach and style and idk what to think abt ut #oc: fine #daemon's art
