helloooo! I am once again sharing the cross guild Argentina au ideas. the brainworms are brainworming

also, Romantic Cross Guild!

•Alone, Mihawk would only drink fernet straight up and treat it with as much reverence as a glass of wine. But! With Buggy he starts to be fond of sharing it back and forth as it is meant to, a drink to be shared and enjoyed, he starts to get more loose and eventually he learns to share the moments and be a part of a group that loves him just as much as he loves them. Crocodile wasn't fond of fernet to begin with, but he also got fond of it after Buggy taught them the love that can be shared with it.

•Buggy has an atrocious sweet tooth, borderline solid diabetes. What else did we expect from a clown? Anyways, aside from all the piracy criminal stuff that Cross Guild does, I genuinly think that Buggy would beg on his knees, on his hands, pouting, crying and doing the biggest pretty please he could so Crocodile lets him hire bakers so that they would make him his favourite facturas and sweets every morning and also sold off for a little profit, but mostly for him to eat at mreakfast and merienda. Crododile does try his hardest to resist the pouting clown but he's helpless and obligues after a little while. They now have the best bakers money can get in the island and Crocodile and Mihawk get sugary kisses every morning now. They might have started liking sugar more if it is in their daily clown kisses...but nobody has to know that shhh. Also now on their list of services to offer they have Sweet Argentinian Facturas among other silly little things like murder, kidnapping, taking down pirate ships, y'know, the usual.

•Crocodile is one of the only people in the whole island that drinks mate the bitterest shit yerba can get it and as hot as volcanic lava, nobody wants to drink with him. Mihawk doesn't drink mate, he's more of a terere guy, and Buggy drinks mate with one kilo of sugar on top and midly cold (hes just like me fr). So that's why all three only share the table they put the things on. Every evening at merienda time the table has one stanley termo (like a one liter thing that stores water and keeps it hot), one jug of iced juice, one flashy hand-painted classic metalic kettle, and a distressful amount of sweets and sandwiches and bizcochos of various types and forms. It is always full of color and warmth and love.

▪︎Buggy can and will gobble up a whole jar of dulce de leche with spoonfulls. Croco and Mihawk are horrified.

▪︎Mihawk mainly dresses whith white loose shirts, used to hot climate like in Cordoba. So the moment winter starts he does not go out at all, he is deep in blankets. Buggy and Croco are very amused, but also find it a little cute

▪︎Crocodile gets up at 6am no matter what, even worse, he is an old ass cranky morning person. Mihawk and Buggy do not like it but, he is THEIR old ass cranky morning person, what're they gonna do about it?

(In this AU I headcanon Karai Bari island as looking less tropical and more like the woods around El Bólson(a village?city?town?in argentina) incluiding all the mountains and cascades and rivers and lakes and woods there are there, so the next places i will name are real ones, you can google them i love them all)

•As their first official date together they decide that nothings better than the Bosque de las Hadas (Fairy Forest) because of how magical and quiet it is there, after all, the fairys and gnomes are just stories, right?

Well, turns out stories are there for a reason, the start the date and everything is beautiful and they have the whole forest to themselves so they go al lovey dovey and suddenly they start hearing weird shit until they have to run out of the forest with Crocodiles help. At the end they had a disastrous date and Mihawk was kinda devastated inside, cuz he had suggested the Fairie Forest, but his partners made sure to make him know that it was interesting anyway and they spent a good time even if they were chased off by tiny feral fairies. Smooches are required and they do...other things too...

•As for their next day, they try a place with less magic in it, they fo to the Waterfalls. They have to do a little hicking; Mihawk is unbothered and enjoying the forest, Crocodile cheats with his sand a little, and Buggy whines the whole way up even if he is enjoying it, his whining stops when Crocodile puts him up on his shoulders and does indecent and spontaneous ass-grabbing. The Waterfalls gets to witness public indecency. It is a beautiful and succesful second date.

Sorry it took so long to reply, many long projects for school came one after another. Then I had no motivation for some days, but I'm back and I just have to say that I love these ideas. Them drinking together with something they either don’t drink with others or don’t drink at all is so cute to imagine!

I’ve heard ideas where Devil Fruit users need something that gives them energy or something like that… it could be food of some sort or smoking. I wonder if that’s true, Buggy’s must be sugar. Poor Mihawk and Crocodile, watching Buggy eat an entire dinner worth of sugar a day like Crocodile smoking through a pack or two of cigars a day isn’t bad as well.

I’m chuckling because I see Mihawk popping his head out of some blankets with Crocodile and Buggy, thinking Mihawk is being so cute. Love that Crocodile is their cranky old person in the morning. Karai Bari being more woodland area than topical looks nice in my mind, the fairy forest with little feral fae chasing them is so funny to think about. I wonder who pissed them off? The second date is everything, Buggy complaining about the shits n giggles, then gets lifted up onto Crocodile’s shoulder, now able to see more things with price of some public indecency.

Day 10 - Jack Frost!

Jack Frost needs no introduction. The mascot of SMT as a whole, the feral hee-homeboy of many a player, and a demon with so many spinoffs that he could be considered a race in-and-of itself! There's a reason so much of this blog heavily features him- Jack Frost is probably the most iconic part of SMT.

Based on the Jack Frost legend of European folklore, the personification of winter, ice, snow, and all things bitter and cold, this mischievous fairy loves nothing more than pranks and saying hee-ho!

Jack Frost is commonly believed to have originated as a spirit of the winter, particularly in Finnish tradition, in the form of Pakkasukko, effectively working as a Nordic equivalent to Santa, also known as Father Frost, Kung Bore in Swedish areas, or up in Slavic territories, a spirit known as 'Grandfather Frost.'

The Hindu Kush mountain range of the Himalayas has its own legend similar to that of Jack Frost as well, as, as it would turn out, the idea of a frost spirit is rather ubiquitous. The most popular interpretation, though, is the English- wait for it- Jack Frost, earliest referenced in a 1734 book titled "Round About Our Coal Fire, or Christmas Entertainments." I tried reading it for this analysis, yet it's as archaic as you'd think it would be... neither does how choppy the scan looks on the Wikimedia website.

but zach when he's pregnant? omgggggg. the most pampered omega you have ever met in your life🤩. has the most elaborate ornate nest. pillowcases are actual silk, cashmere throws and warm wool blankets, 80000 pillows, tea lights scattered around (fire hazard but whatever zach wants what he wants), fairy lights strung up all around the corner of his room, lil mini fridge with all of his favorite cravings that change weekly. he refused to eat anything besides pancakes for like six days. pulls garrett into the nest after he comes home from practice cuz he missed him while he was away🥺(for a grand total of four hours) garrett doesn't mind though, he's just so happy that zach is happy. will drive to cvs at 2 am to get more red vines for his baby. i also think lowkey garrett is the emotional one while zach is pregnant lol he just cant believe he's about to be a dad

as for outside the omegaverse i think the interesting question is if zach continues with football or not🤔there's a lot of like jets trauma backstory that im not explaining here but if you've read my wilson^2 fic you already lowkey catch the vibes i hope. like irl he's qb3 rn and unless payton works some miracle AND bo is hella injured AND stidham is out he's not starting anywhere so like..... does he just retire and become garrett's househusband? idk. this is actually an interesting question i will ponder this.

The Soulmates- Laxus x Oc

I FINALLY FINISHED THIS!! This is a small glimpse into Nelly and Laxus relationship. or the beginning of it atleast. theirs is definetly the most complex out of them all as Nelly and Laxus have known each other the longest. I just love him okay! hes so handsome :( also i messed up a bit with the timeline, Nelly is twelve when she joins fairy tail and thirteen when this story begins.

summary: Nelly has been in Fairy tail for a few months at this point and is starting to settle down and met everyone. though there is one person who is still a mystery to her, Makarovs grandson Laxus. what do the fates have in store for these two?

Growing up in Fairy Tail was not what I had expected. As I had been born to a magic negative village, it felt strange suddenly being surrounded by it on a daily basis. At first it felt suffocating, like I was in a cloud. It was nowhere near the feeling I had when near Acnologia, however, it felt like I was drowning in a lake with a thick cover of ice on the surface. Though Makarov and Gildarts did a lot to help me adjust to the feeling as well as helping me get used to using my magic in a controlled and safe environment, and a couple months after my arrival I turned thirteen. 

As a member of Fairy Tail, that meant I was constantly surrounded by other people, and due to years of isolation, I had a hard time making friends. The first child to approach me was the redhead I saw on my first day. She was very nice but had a suffocating feeling surrounding her due to her magic power. That made it difficult to interact with her at first. Her name was Erza Scarlet and she was weirdly strong for her age. Though I was introduced to another girl shortly after my arrival. Her name was Cana Alberona and she used card magic. She was really nice but she seemed sad sometimes, she’d stare at Gildarts with this look of yearning alot. We were both fairly shy which made it easy for us to understand each other. 

Shortly after meeting Cana and becoming friends I was introduced to a boy with raven hair and a bad stripping habit. He was easy to get along with and never pushed me to talk. It was weird that we got along as well as we did. His name was Gray Fullbuster, and he ended up declaring me his sister a few months into our friendship. I mostly avoided the guys, they were so loud it was hard to think around them, except for Gray at least. Though after a while I became more and more comfortable in the Guild. There was just one person I had yet to meet.

His name was Laxus Dreyar and he was Makarov's grandson. I had seen him around the guild but he was always angry. He constantly had headphones on and walked away from people when they talked to him. But one day, our fates became intertwined. I was walking through Magnolia by myself. There was a bakery that I had heard Erza had told me about when we had officially introduced ourselves to each other. It was only a few blocks away from the guild and my confidence had been growing. Gramps had been helping me feel safe enough to explore Magnolia alone and to start doing things myself. 

I had been listening to music with the music player Gildarts had given me to help when things got too loud for me. I took a deep breath and soaked in the nice weather. It felt nice to be able to appreciate the sunshine properly, as previous to my joining the guild I was frequently in survival mode. Continuing my walk I had my eyes closed listening to the music in my ears, until I walked into a wall. Taking a step back I opened my eyes. Two guys stood in front of me, sneering. One had a cigarette hanging from his mouth and the other stood leaning forward. 

I took my headphones off and apologized for running into them and turned to walk around them. The smoker pushed his hand out in front of me. “This a Fairy Tail brat?” The other guy confirmed his question, noticing my guild mark on my chest. “Think we can get a decent jewel if we hold onto her for a bit?” the other man grunted in agreement. Panik overtook me. I started to turn in order to run towards the guild hall when one of the men grabbed me. I quickly turned towards my assailant and bit him as hard as I could and went to run again. I fell and landed hard on the ground, one of the guys had hit me down. They stood over me, sneering angrily. 

The smoker reached for me again as I sat on the ground. Then a bright light- which caused me to close my eyes- and a loud crashing sound was heard. Opening my eyes once the light died down, I saw the two guys covered in soot and frozen in place until they fell backwards into the ground. “Don’t you know it's rude to bother someone smaller than you?” turning towards the new voice I felt my eyes widen in shock.

Laxus Dreyar stood behind me with his hands in his pockets and his headphones on his ears. He glared angrily at the two men on the ground, “Picking on the newest member of Fairy Tail? That's probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard” The assailants stood and after shouting a few insults towards the lightning mage, booked it as fast as they could in the opposite direction. Laxus walked up to me and held his hand out, “You’re that girl Gildarts found right? You okay?” Nodding quickly I tried to reassure him I was fine, until I put pressure on my right ankle at least. Grimacing, I folded over a bit from the pain. “Yeah you look fine.” He started sarcastically with a hint of a smile on his face. 

He helped me to a nearby bench and sat down with me. “What are you doing by yourself? Isn’t Gray or Cana normally with you?” He asked, and I explained that I was trying to build my confidence and get used to Magnolia as my home. He nodded in understanding. Looking down he scratched his neck and asked, “So where were you headed?” I told him I was going to the bakery I had heard about and wanted to try some of their sweets. “You should probably get your ankle checked out though. It may be broken.” Agreeing with him I went to stand, only to be pulled onto his back before I could register what was happening. He started to piggyback me back to the Guild hall. 

When we got back- after much arguing about him carrying me- Makarov had my ankle checked by one of our healers, who said it would be fine in the morning. I was relieved that I hadn’t broken it trying to run away. Makarov asked me what had happened and once I opened my mouth to respond I was interrupted. “A couple losers tried to kidnap her. She fell when one of them knocked her down.” Laxus had explained what had happened. Makarov then decided it would be a good idea for me to have someone with me while out for the time being. Just to be safe. 

The next morning I was talking to Cana. “Nelly! Follow me real quick.” He called out to me while heading towards the door. Confused I looked to Cana for help and she smirked at me, pushing me out of my chair. I walked out of the guild to where Laxus stood looking back at the doors. He gestured with his head for me to follow him. “How's your ankle?” He asked quietly as we walked together. “It's fine now! It doesn't even hurt!” I replied excitedly. He nodded his head as a response. I noticed he was slightly faster than me and I had to sprint a little to keep up. He seemed to notice and slowed down a bit so we could walk side by side. 

As we walked we spoke about our interests- favorite music, foods we enjoyed, even our magic- he even told me about his father and how he got the scar over his eye. It felt strange, in that short time it felt like we had known each other forever. Eventually Laxus stopped and walked up to a door, holding it open for me. It was the bakery I was going to yesterday. I blushed and rambled about how he didn’t have to take me here. “Hey, those assholes interrupted you yesterday.” I stopped arguing and we walked up to the counter ordering our food. I went to pull out some money when Laxus pulled out enough money for both our orders. 

He left me no room to argue and we sat down at a table after we got our food. The strange thing was, it didn’t feel awkward at all. It felt right. Like we were always supposed to do this. We spent a lot of time together after that. We never specified if we were friends or not. But we also just kinda knew what we were, to and extent at least. Being with Laxus felt easy, safe even. He had proven twice in such a short time that he would keep me safe. 

After that we were inseparable. We went on walks together and he showed me different shops and places he felt I'd enjoy. The other members of the guild started to joke about how cute we were together and asked when our wedding was going to be. It always made me blush and get all nervous. Laxus would start yelling about how we were still teenagers and had met only recently, but never tried to correct them about our relationship. 

As time passed we got more and more close, yet never did anything pass hugging and the occasional cuddling. As we got closer I noticed my dreams had changed. Instead of the usual destruction and death I was shown it morphed into peace and tranquility. No more screaming and no more mountains of corpses, just fluffy clouds and flower fields. Laxus was my rock growing up, my safety net. As we got older however, he started to change. Then our fates began to shift, and my rock began to erode.

Zhang Linghe's Theory of Everything

Stephen Hawking once searched for an excellent formula that could be used to ultimately explain all phenomenons in the universe. In his youth, Zhang Linghe once regarded him as a hero and admired him for his research on theoretical knowledge that has an impact on human civilization. Then, he studied hard and spent happy days at school such as deriving interrelated formula. Later, he became an actor & discovered the beauty when rationality & emotion are matched. Now, his logical perception of reality, his empathy perception for the characters & fiction world has formed Zhang Linghe's unique theory of everything.

It was a very early photoshoot schedule. Zhang Linghe was drinking his daily iced americano with oolong tea beside it. His bangs, which hadn't been set was a bit covering his eyes, but he remained to look sincere and witty. We asked him whether he has always like this kind of bitter drink, he said he learned to like it. "At first, I drink it to reduce swelling, but later it became a habit & I keep doing it." Recently, Zhang Linghe's face has filled our sight. Love Between Fairy and Devil is still popular, Story of Kunning Palace has just finished filming and he currently joined the filming of Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Yuehong Chapter. Although the role of Hu Weisheng played by him is not main character, it has unique personality which is different from his previous roles. "Weisheng is a little timid and a bit silly, but at the same time, he also sincere & cute. I already know the crew from previous project, so I feel very familiar when I joined them. This saves times as I already know them, I could quickly get into the work environment." Zhang Linghe still thinks carefully. "I've been thinking about how to make this silly character more lovely. Later, I found that integrity is an important point. As long as he is kind & sincere, everyone will like him.

Let's take a look of characters played by Zhang Linghe. They all have different personality & look. Chang Heng is warm & firm, Xie Wei is thoughtful & meticulous, Hu Weisheng is simple & pure. Among these characters, Xie Wei is the most complex. "It took me some time to find out how this character feels, he's really different from me, so I made a lot of preparations. I try to use his personality to think about every decisions he made. I discuss his thoughts & emotions with the screenwriter, I also talk to the novel author, I want to know as much as possible about what the author gave when creating this character. Combined with the final result expected by the screenwriter, I finally able to understand him & experience his story." As Zhang Linghe said, playing the role of Xie Wei is beyond his experience, his dialogues able to make him think deeply for a long time. "In a scene, I had this dialogue the world is finally at peace, now it doesn't matter if I die However, as I play Xie Wei, I need to understand and figure out his mind & feelings when he said those words. Later, I read the novel. I feel that the reason why he is fighting all the way to get high position is because he has hope in his heart. But then, this hope has gone. Then for him it's what he means by now it doesn't matter if I die.”

People often said that being good at finding out the rules of constant things is the necessary ability for smart people to survive, so it is inevitable that Zhang Linghe, who loves to solve mathematical problems, has summarized his own methodologies for acting. "The concept of my methodology is divided into two parts. In some technical & empirical things such as reading the script and understanding the role will be expertized through the amount of experiences I had. But when I really started acting, I found that the emotion & perception of the characters remain prevailed. I'm not professional-trained actor, so I can learn more about the power of sincerity in acting through more experiences." His tone sounds relaxed, but his attitude is earnest, with a great sincerity for the ‘acting’ itself.

Perhaps the nature of his logical thinking or the feeling of accomplishment brought by obtaining a unique solution that made Zhang Linghe interested to physics. But unfortunately, acting is on the opposite side of rationality. It requires actors to think deeply, but it also requires them to throw away the result of thinking and finally get close emotionally to the character. These two things are mutually opposite, but surprisingly, they reacted wonderfully with each other in Zhang Linghe's life.

What if you have to compare your love for physics with your love for acting?

"Both have their own charm. The joy brought by acting is like the release of dopamine, like there's a 'bang' of fireworks in your brain. The joy of physics is to satisfy curiosity. You will dig deeper & deeper into a conjecture and you must chase after the final answer before you stop. But these two things have their own difficulties at the same time. A thousand people have a thousand hamlets in their hearts (meaning a thousand people might have a thousand different opinions), to what extent you can understand and bring something into the character. While for physics, the road of study might never end".

However, compared to the physics conjectures, acting is more difficult. In this process, Zhang Linghe needs to let go a few sense of control over the results, to let go the strong reins of rationality and let himself enter the character's soul. In the acting class, the teacher told him to freely express his character. He must give up the thinking part and embrace the sensibility. "In the class, the teacher will specially choose a role that has a big contrast with you and ask you to try. I remember at that time the teacher asked me to imitate a kitten, its cute gestures & behaviour. With more training like this, I started to found a few methods of how to get into the characters."

However, when he first truly empathized with a character, it still brought a great emotional impact to Zhang Linghe. "The first time I felt that I was empathizing with the character was when I filmed Flourish in Time. It was a very simple scene. I went to give my sister an examinee identity card. Actually, I didn't need to give her a strong feeling. But when I was acting for this scene, I happened to notice the drama will wrap up. So, when the director shouted "cut", I fall apart. And it lasted for ten or twenty minutes. I felt trapped by Jiang Haoyue's feelings. Later, I realized that I will feel this way when I get into the role." This experience made him realize the feeling of being affected by the characters' emotions. But also from the moment when the characters walked into his heart, Zhang Linghe felt that he could really continue his acting journey.

Recently, Zhang Linghe filmed some costume dramas intensively. At first, he considered wearing a headpiece & using hanging wires as new fun things. But as the filming went deeper, he began to feel the deeper cultural power. "The more costume dramas I filmed, the more I feel it as our powerful cultural characteristics and able to bring us the cultural confidence. After Love Between Fairy and Devil was broadcasted, the ancient culture in the drama has been loved by many audiences, including overseas, which is also one of our cultural export. It's really an honor for me to be able to join this outstanding costume drama. When talking about acting, Zhang Linghe always has a lot to say, eager to share his feelings about the role, but also firmly state his own shortcomings. " In acting, what I want to improve most is (how to express) the dialogues. How can I make the dialogues fit into to the characters? I want to continue exploring and practice it.

After not filming for awhile, Zhang Linghe has back to be a completely rational person. He doesn't believe in things without theoretical support. He also doesn't believe that zodiac sign and personality tests can explain the personality. I think this is the matter of phenomenon & result or vice versa. Actually, the characters commonality exists first and people will put themselves as the result of a zodiac sign or a personality type. Even if there is no astrology, this character commonality will still exists, only we don't know how to describe it. When he was a child, he wanted to be a person like Hawking, Einstein or Galileo. He was fascinated by the exploration of world's law of nature. After getting into the acting world, he like Tony Leung. He watched Infernal Affairs over & over again just to see Tony Leung’s acting. "Tony Leung laoshi looks handsome. He has one kind of highest quality of performance sense. I like this movie because I also like Andy Lau laoshi. The two of them created dramatic tension in that movie."

He just made a great start of his acting career. There are a lot of possibilities and expectations to be accomplished. "The types of roles I've always wanted to play is still a police or crime genre, a mystery one. Maybe I can play as the police or the villain. I'm looking forward for the opportunity." Perhaps his love for reasoning themes comes from his love for detective fiction novels & enjoying the process of battle-of-wits with the author. "I have read quite many of Keigo Higashino's works, because it's not just a simple case of reasoning, there is also a lot of human thoughts in addition to complicated reasoning techniques. Sometimes it's interesting to read this kind of novel. You hope to win over the author & guess the next step of his plan, but you are also expecting to be surprises." Besides the detective fiction novels, he also likes the science fiction novel such as Liu Cixin's works. The kind of hard work that built on a complete set of logical systems. "After I read Three Body Problems and Ball Lightning, I find it’s hard to immersed when I read another novels. These novels gave me a deep impression. He successfuly bridges the gap between fantasy and reality. You will be fully convinced with the world he created. It really is amazing.”

One of science fiction movie that Zhang Linghe recently watch is "The Moon Falls". There is also “Interstellar” which is an irreplaceable masterpiece for him. In his spare time, he will open science fiction category on the streaming platform & will watch it one by one without selection, as if everything about the universe is within his liking. He believes that there are higher dimensions of life observing us & we are just tiny beings in three-dimensional world. "A lot of superstring theories mentioned that the universe is 11-dimensional. We live in a very low-level dimension. There are too many things in the universe beyond our understanding and imagination. There are too many coordinate axes outside of xyz. This world is multi-layered.”

Does this make you feel little? "It will broaden my mind & heart"

Most people who like physics and macro perspective have the courage to face the unknown. It is a precious spirit to be able to happily live even after realizing our insignificance. "Sometimes you go to learn about the universe, look at the satellites and asteroids revolving around the sun, and think about the Milky Way beyond the solar system. Every star is so far apart. These seemed to be those kinds of feelings. Friendship with Peter was easy and safe. You liked both of those things. Complicating that with feelings wasn’t on your itinerary.

“So you wouldn’t care if I asked him out?” Betty asks at last, plopping down in her desk situated outside of their bosses office.

You bite your lip to keep the hurt from bubbling up and giving away your deepest secret. Begin typing away at an email waiting for you in your currently overflowing inbox. She passes you a knowing smirk, lowering her own gaze to her notebook.

“Absolutely not.”

You regret the words as soon as you utter them.

“Weirdest thing happened to me today.”

Peter pulls out a chair across from you at your favorite coffee shop. Bean a Day. It’s a small corner cafe with potted plants dangling in every corner of the room, lit up with fairy lights and rustic furniture as far as the eye can see.

“Lots of weird things happen to you all the time.” You lean forward onto your elbows. Hands come up to cup around your mouth as you whisper out, “Like that spider—”

Peter clasps a hand in front of your mouth dramatically. Tosses his straw wrapper at you next. Your hand comes up to swat it away—to swat him away, really. Exhaling, you lean back in your chair and twirl your straw around and around in your iced coffee. Once the proper color, you sip.

“Betty asked me out…I think?” His voice grows an octave higher at the end. Just like it always does when he’s confused. Your heart sinks within your chest, though this would be a moment where it should, instead, leave you alone.

“Did she now?” You try to act shocked. You are shocked, though. Betty only asked earlier that morning what you thought about her potentially dating him; you hadn’t thought she’d move that quickly with the idea. With a cough, you continue, “What did you…uh…say?”

“I said yeah,” he admits, bringing his cup to his lips and taking a slow sip of his caramel latte. It’s done in a way that draws your eye, led to wonder that, if you leaned forward and pressed your lips to his, you would taste those sugary sweet notes.

Instead, you imagine the blonde back at the office giggling brightly. Wonder if it’s her lips he’ll kiss after a night out on the town. Maybe after a movie or a candlelit dinner. You tamper those thoughts and glance down at your watch. Peter catches your wandering attention and leans across the table to curl his index finger and thumb around your wrist. Your pulse leaps at the small gesture.

“Should I have said something else?”

Yes.

You shake your head. “No. That sounds great. I’m happy for you, Petey. Really happy.”

Peter looks nice for his date. He told you at the cafe they had set up for Friday after work, but your heart hadn’t been prepared for the sight he makes that day when he comes in wearing a new button up. Sleeves pushed up to his elbows—all veiny forearms and bulging muscles on display. The nerve of him to look that good. His shirt a pretty blue that suits him. Makes your heart do a quick somersault in your chest as he runs his fingers through his forever unkempt hair that would look ridiculous on anyone else but just works on him.

He compliments your dress when he walks in. So maybe you’d also picked something new up at the store? It had been an emotional purchase; one fueled by unrequited feelings. A little black number that made you feel like you could conquer the world.

Eat your heart out, Parker.

“Thanks,” you mutter out, clicking your pen and setting it atop your notebook.

“New?” he asks, stopping to stand in front of your desk.

“Yeah.” You wonder briefly where Betty is. The work day ended fifteen minutes ago. Usually by now the both of you are finishing wrapping things up for the day.

“You look beautiful,” he says, a little breathless. You lift your head at that, smiling softly. “I—I mean you always do. But…yeah. Today. Really…beautiful.”

You’re about to say something when Betty rushes out from Jameson’s office, looking like a blonde dream with her long, flowing hair and pop of red lipstick on her perfect, pouty lips. Your smile drops as she quickly rearranges her desk, offering her apologies for being late.

You don’t expect her next words, however, “I’m so sorry, but something came up and I have to cancel. You two should definitely go on ahead to that restaurant I made reservations for. It’s this new spot. Really romantic. Booked out for weeks.”

Neither of you speaks. Not even as she grips her pocketbook, slings it over her shoulder, and rushes out of the building like she has a train to catch. When reality settles back in, your eyes flicker to Peter, looking just as equally dumbfounded as you’re certain you look right about now.

“What do you say?” Peter muses, extending an arm to you. “Have dinner with me, sweet thing?”

‘Like a date?’ you want to ask. The words cling to your tongue.

“Like a date.” It’s like he can read your mind. Your stomach clenches. “Well, not like a date. A date date. Do you want to go…on a date with me?”

“I would love to.”

Betty was right. The restaurant is gorgeous. All vaulted ceilings. Dim chandelier lighting. Candles lit at every table, with a singular rose poised in the center. Perfect date night. For the date…that you’re presently on with Peter.

There’s only one question pressing on your mind, and you voice it to Peter early on into the evening, “Do you think Betty set us up?”

Peter takes a sip of his water, drumming his opposite thumb against the table. His fingers lay mere inches from yours—a fact every inch of your being hones in on.

“One thousand percent. The reservation was under both our names, apparently the owner is actually her Uncle and—”

“A bottle of champagne, especially for you two,” your waiter says, appearing without warning in front of the table. He addresses you both by name, adding, “Your friend Betty has sent her well wishes for your evening. We hope you enjoy.”

“She so set us up,” you hiss half-heartedly, pouring yourself a glass of champagne before moving to fill Peter’s.

“Should we make a toast then?” Peter quips, lifting the flute.

You lift yours before him, beaming in the candlelight. “What are we toasting to?”

“To a beautiful night with an even more beautiful woman.”

He grins, and it sends off thousands of butterflies into flight.

You feel giddy and light and it has absolutely nothing to do with the champagne. Instead it’s the man walking beside you on your way back to your apartment, fingers brushing yours every so often as you amble down the snow-slicked streets. Dinner had been filled with light conversation. Teasing remarks and banter you might have made yourself believe could have been flirting. Flirting with Peter Parker. Unheard of.

“Can I make a confession?” Peter asks suddenly, turning down a street that brings you right to your doorstep. You still in front of him, smiling as his hand comes to curl fully around yours, drawing you closer to him.

“Sure.”

You’re breathless. Puffs of cold air burst and mingle in the space between the two of you. It dawns on you that it grows shorter with every passing moment.

“Betty orchestrated this whole thing, but she wasn’t alone in it.” At your wrinkling brows, he continues, “She had a sidekick in on the job with her.”

“An informant?” Your lip quirks at the corner.

He smiles. Takes another step closer. “I, uh, only got the idea after she mentioned you got a little jealous when she teased you about how we’ve never kissed or anything in all the years we’ve been friends.”

“She acted like it was this foreign thing. For a guy and a girl to be platonic all this time.”

“But we’re not. Not fully, at least, right? Unless I’ve read tonight all wrong.” Peter toys with the sleeve of your jacket nervously, his dark eyes meeting yours in the lamplight emanating from your front door window. “Or really read the past few years all wrong.”

You think to all the late movie nights. The way the two of you were overtly touchy for people who claimed friendship. How you texted all hours of the day, despite the fact you worked together and hung out most weekends. How you told him everything and he reciprocated all the same.

“I mean…I don’t know, you tell me,” you whisper, aware that you’re trembling is no longer from the cold.

He steps closer still. Chest brushing yours on that front step as his hands come to hover near your hips, his eyes asking you a question without ever speaking a word. Your head dips and his hands find purchase on either side of you, drawing you near to him. It’s a weird, thrilling, and wonderful feeling to have him so close. To feel his warmth at your hips. Your chest. To feel his breath dancing along your face. His heart hammering swiftly against your own.

“I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t dreamed about this a time or two,” he says softly, forehead dropping against your own.

You run your nose along his. Slide a palm up and over his chest. Settle it there over his heart. “Only a time or two?”

“Maybe three times…tops.” He chuckles lowly.

You smirk. “What exactly happens in this dream?”

He exhales and presses his index finger to your chin. Tips it up ever so slightly until your eyes meet his. You feel every inch of you spark under his stare.

“I tell you that the moment I met you, I thought you were the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. But that I was so nervous, I dropped my coffee all over myself.” He had. You can recall the moment clearly. His horrified face all widened in terror as everyone paused mid conversation to look his way. “I shelved us right into the friend zone. Because how could I ever redeem myself after that stunning display?”

You hum when his hand comes up to slide across your cheek, fingers just reaching around the back of your neck. “I ask you if you have this overwhelming feeling whenever we’re together. Like this sense of right that just feels wrong with anyone else.”

“What do I say in this dream?” You ask.

“Let me finish,” he chuckles lightly, tucking his other arm around your waist. Cradling you against the heat of him.

“Testy, testy,” you joke, the tip of your nose bumping against his. Your mouth lingers just centimeters from his. The heat of his breath dances along your lower lip. If you tip your head up just so, you would be kissing him.

You want to kiss him.

“I hold you just like I am right now,” he whispers, and your arms come to wind around his neck. Toes leaning up ever so slightly to get closer to him. “And then I ask if I can kiss you finally.”

“What happens next?” you ask, exhaling slowly.

“Usually, this is right around where I wake up,” he says, tipping his mouth downward ever so slightly. “So it’s really whatever we decide.”

“Kiss me.”

It’s a whisper. A plea. A mantra. You’re not even sure, but as soon as it sounds from your lips he’s leaning down and capturing your mouth with his own. Silencing any further questions as to whether or not he’s felt the same as you. Feels the same as you.

He’s warm and his kisses are sweet. The taste of lingering champagne clings to his tongue as it meets yours, weaving new secrets meant only for the two of you. A silent exchange of ‘are we really doing this’ and ‘we absolutely are.’ As he leans back, you find you already miss him. Lean forward to press another kiss into his skin. Another secret.

“Since we’re making up our own story from here on out…come inside?”

He pauses. “Yeah?”

“I’ll make you hot chocolate and you can tell me more about this plan you concocted with Betty. I still can’t believe the two of you did this.”

But, as he clasps his hand in your own and kisses you just before the two of you step into your apartment, you find yourself grateful they did.
