I like to think it started out as hate fucking and then they caught feelings

They were bickering and Pete said "Ooo you wanna fuck me so bad"

as a joke

and then the next thing he knows he's being pinned against a wall with a tongue down his throat and he doesn't want to like it but oh my god why does Max's tongue feel amazing

The next day he walks into school and he's tried so hard to cover up the hickeys

Max sees, and drags him into a bathroom when nobody is around to see, making pete wipe all the makeup off

he also maybe gives Pete more hickeys in one of the stalls and sticks his fingers in Petes mouth to make him stay quiet but SHHH

Eventually everyone starts to notice "Hey, Max has been tormenting shrimpdick a lot less"

and max has started sticking with Jason and Kyle a lot more because for some reason, every time he's alone with Pete, he goes bright red and starts stammering

and then Kyle notices from a distance and gives him A Talk™, and makes him realise his feelings for Pete

So Max spends the next three days trying to chase down Ruth and Richie without Pete immediately jumping in to defend them, and finally, finally, he manages to get Richie alone and 'bully' him into giving him good first date ideas

It takes him a solid 10 minutes to get his words out when he finally confesses

Pete just stands there and very slowly turns a very bright red, and stammers his way through a yes

Thank youuuuuuu! Something I really think is interesting and unique about this game is how complex your interpersonal relationships with NPCs can be. That's the case with NPCs that have scripted storylines as well as without and I just think that's neat. It's sort of realistic in that way and you end up creating your own storylines for these characters based on the events of the game. Relationships to all the characters can be very dynamic and can change many times.

Like my player character Richie and the admirers admirer (named Nolan in my game) had such a rollercoaster of a relationship to each other I think they were every single thing you can be in the game to each other.

Nolan started out absolutely hating Richie's guts. After all the guy he was into (named Kenny in my game) was constantly making googoo eyes at him and inviting him to hang out with the rest of the friend group. It was hate at first sight. He and Kenny had been friends forever and, well, he knew Kenny was a delicate guy. He could tell that Richie was the kind of asshole to break his heart without even thinking about it. They'd both dealt with that kind. Of course they had, they'd always been kind of nerdy that seemed to attract bullies and people who want to take advantage like flies to shit. Nolan delt with that by toughening himself up to the world, teaching himself to put on the kind of additude that dared anyone to mess with him and see if they kept their teeth after. Kenny on the other hand hadn't been able to find that kind of confidence. He was still that sweet, shy, earnest boy he always was. That's why Nolan has to protect him.

But Richie kept showing up to play dnd with the gang no matter how much Nolan bitched at him, no matter how much he warned Kenny against hanging around guys like that. Worse yet he had three classes with this fucking guy. Like some kind of ghost of cunts passed this dickbag popped up everywhere, cursing Nolan's eyeballs with his stupid tall...well built...muscular...Whore Self! Nolan made it his personal mission to antagonize the fuck out of him. Spreading rumors, cornering him, openly talking shit in class, throwing paper wads at his head.

Richie had no idea what that freak's problem was but he sure as fuck wasn't going to take this without fighting back. So they became Enemies ✨

They were constantly getting into fights that campus security had to break up and taking shit about each other until one day Nolan pushed Richie to the ground and pulled back a fist...but hesitated. Ok Richie had always been hot to him. I mean obviously fuck that guy but it was just fact. He had a thing for tall guys, sue him. But now with him on the ground, his hair in his face and spilling out around his head, his lips parted and panting, and oops they were making out. Little did Nolan know Richie had a thing for punk guys with smudgy black eyeliner. And they became Hatefuck buddies✨

So started the era that annoyed Richie the most. (And was my favorite!). Nolan was still being a little shit stirrer but now he was being a horny little shit stirrer. Groping him in public, whispering obscene things to him in class, sending dickpics, jumping him randomly to yank him away into a secluded area to try to force Richie to get him off. And he was still spreading rumors and taking shit about Richie to anyone who would listen.

Richie was sick to death of Nolan's bullshit. And he was sick to death of being forced on his knees and tossed around and having to fight to get an upper hand. So essentially he took the disney channel approach of turning your enemies into friends. He started chatting to him every day whenever he saw him, sitting near him in class, hanging out more with Kenny him and the dnd gang and subsequently getting more invested in dnd. Eventually it actually worked and they be became Fuckbuddies✨ then actual Friends✨ Or the other way around, I can't remember.

Then like a week or something into them being friends Richie accidentally sent Nolan a message asking him out on a date and he actually enthusiastically agreed?? (I actually meant to ask him to hang out and clicked the option to ask him on a date accidentally and was both surprised and pumped he agreed) So now they're Dating✨

Now Richie comes over to Nolan's apartment in town regularly and stays the night so the first thing he sees in the morning is Nolan's face.

Like that's a whole narrative right there??? And that all, aside from the background narrative about Kenny and Nolan's friendship, legitimately happened in the game. That's wild. I love that. Also idk what it is but I love an enemies to fuckbuddies to actually care for each other deeply arc. I absolutely Love messy complicated relationships. They feel so raw and interesting. And human?

I started watching the bear because of you and I wanted to know do you think you’ll ever write for Richie?

Honestly I’ve had some ideas for something especially smutty and kinda toxic with Richie like those scenes between him and Sydney and how they argue and get in each other’s faces a lot…yeah that made me think of some enemies to lovers/hatefuck type situation

He’s such an ass like it works perfectly lol I may actually write it but other than that I don’t think I’d write for him too often, not as much as I feel motivated to write for Carmy

I kind of sliced out pieces of the ficlet to comment on, if you don’t mind. :)

One thing I knew is that I didn’t want her to be was gentle. There is way too much baggage between them, and your prompt included “hatefucking” and that is such a thing I feel like could work with them that I just went “yes” and used that as my jumping off point.

He can feel her teeth, human and blunt, against the closed press of their lips

I feel like culebras would have a thing when it comes to teeth (their own are tied to everything from fighting to reproduction), a sort of noting of them that happens more often than a human does. But that line also plays into the fact that this is about the other side of passion, desire rooted in a harder, angrier source. I almost had her bite him as another way of trying to hurt him, but I think the fact that he is culebra, and their much more complicated interpretation of biting, would’ve made her decide against it. Maybe if I ever write that longer enemies-with-complicated-feelings-who-fuck fic about them that’s been floating in my head I’ll explore the concept of biting between them.

...she all but hauls him closer, one hand fisted in the collar of his shirt while the other cuts half-moons into his skin. He wonders if she’s trying to draw blood, slice into him the way he did her over a year ago. Something shivers in anticipation in his chest at the thought and his feet stumble after her as she falls back a step.

... Richie’s hand comes up to rest against the side of her ribs in an futile effort to steady her before she slaps it away, brows drawn in a glare like he tried to take liberties, and maybe he did. Maybe killing her old man gave her the keys to this song and dance of theirs, leaving him groping in the dark for the rules and edges.

Dakota is very much driving things, very much in control of what is happening between them. And yeah, she is trying to hurt him, at least a little. This is about her in her mind, her and her messed up feelings about him and what he has done to her and her family. (And that includes Freddie.) And I only touched on it, but Richie kind of wants her to hurt him here. There’s a certain thrill to it, in part because he hurt her before and in part because she’s human.

... he looks at her, studies that unforgiving flint in her gaze and the special brand of defiance in the tilt of her jaw, and wonders.

Why are you here? he wants to ask, wants to form the words and make the demand into the empty space between them.

Random factoid: This was actually where I first started the fic, with him wondering why she was there and what she wanted, because I can never write things in order.

There’s an odd almost power play underlining this (”almost,” because Richie isn’t trying for more here) and the fact that he doesn’t ask, doesn’t speak because she said not to, and that she doesn’t want him to speak, plays into that. Or maybe its better to say there’s a clear dominant party here, and that they both know who that is.

She does that to him, mixes up guilt and shame and curiosity within him, like she’s full of all the answers while he hasn’t yet earned the right to the questions. He should hate it, being the type of man that he is. Should, but doesn't.

Excuse the rambley mess: So much of those lines comes from how I see Richie and the mindset I think Dakota would be in to start something like this with him.

Part of this is rooted in the fact that Richie is often shown on screen wanting/needing things contradictory to what he thinks and says he wants/needs, which is a whole meta in and of itself so I won’t dive too deeply into here. He has an interesting relationship with guilt to begin with before adding his suddenly being faced with the consequences and results of his actions. Some of what he did without reaction/remorse before the Twister he becomes all torn up about later, and while I don’t think he’d ever reach Monica level of guilt over Earl (the whole cop vs criminal aspect, plus it being an act of survival in his mind), I do think he felt no small amount of regret towards Dakota. Although that’s different from Monica too, because he feels guilt not over killing Earl but rather over how Dakota was hurt by his taking her dad from her. And he focuses on her in season three (at least when she’s around), at least in part because he thinks he owes her. And he does, but I don’t he realizes he can’t actually pay her back, that he won’t ever really make up for what he did. But he was drawn to her from the beginning and that didn’t really change once she revealed herself to be Earl’s daughter.

And then there’s Dakota and her own complicated feelings towards him (as well as a healthy dose of confusion), and her blatant refusal to make things easy for him. She’s not going to explain the nature of human behavior to him, isn’t going to stop and worry about what he’s thinking about why she’s doing what she’s doing (and he picks up on that). She has her own intelligence, and its very different from Richie’s (not sure if the show ever confirmed her truly being a psychologist or if that was just a ruse, but it’s possible she does have a degree in human behavior) and her motivation is murky to him at best.

Anyways, all that came together in my head so I could basically say Richie is mess of emotions when it comes to Dakota and that only makes him drawn to her more.

He settles for the grasping at the hem of her denim jacket, bunching the material up almost questioningly but she doesn’t push him away...

...Her hand comes up to grasp his chin, yanking downward on his jaw and forcing an entrance for the sharp thrust of her tongue, and he gives in with a twisted thrill.

More of their clear cut roles here, definitely some hits of sub/domme undertones and where they would fall in those categories. And Dakota isn’t asking, she is going to take what she wants here and if Richie doesn’t like it he can walk away.

I don’t know why, but I was very determined that Dakota was going to snap a button on Richie’s shirt. Specifically that top one he always keeps closed. She was going to do it, and I just had to figure out when.

I will argue until the cow’s come home that Richie is a naturally born follower. Which plays into his submissive tendencies in this ficlet. Richie is constantly putting himself under other people’s control/power. Even when given power, something he claims he wants, he immediately turns around and gives it up to someone else. Despite what he thinks, he does not actually want to be in charge, and he shows that in his constant surrendering to others’ authority over him.

And I’m really glad you liked the final line, because I almost deleted it when I first typed it out because I feared it might sound too cheesy.
