Hi! I'm probably not intersex, and recently I've been trying to educate myself as much as possible on the intersex experience, entirely through reading posts from intersex people here on Tumblr.

I was wondering if there was any chance I could get some guidance on how I can best be supportive of intersex people both online and out in the wild! I try a lot to reblog everything I see on here and in general just treat everyone the same way, no matter if they're intersex or not, but I can't help but be worried I'll say something wrong out of being still on my journey to being educated.

So I thought I'd come here and just... ask?

What can I do to be the best ally I can?

In the same vein, do you happen to have any suggestions on sources I could use to educate myself further?

I would recommend checking out the sources shared in this post.

I'd also specifically highlight that I think it's really important for allies to learn about intersex justice. Intersex justice is a specific movement and framework created by intersex people of color from the Intersex Justice Project that looks at intersex justice as a part of collective liberation, understands the important of cross-movement organizing, and recognizes the way that systems of power based on white supremacy and colonialism shape and enable intersex oppression. The seven principles of intersex justice are:

Informed consent

Reparations

Legal protections

Accountability

Language

Children's rights

Patient-centered healthcare

These are really important values to center your intersex allyship around.

I'll also share some miscellaneous tips for things to think about in your intersex allyship:

Listen to intersex people about our experiences, not doctors! The medical system plays a huge role in our oppression, and is not the expert on our experiences.

You're going to have to unlearn a lot more biases and myths than you might think you have to. Intersexism/compulsory dyadism shows up in a lot of small ways, like the fact there's only M and F boxes in forms, jokes about micropenises, beauty standards about body hair, and more. Keep an eye out for all these ways our society props up the sex binary, even though it's a myth.

Avoid DSD terminology, referring to "male" and "female" bodies, calling intersex a "third sex" and never use the h slur. Other terminology that isn't always bad, but often gets misused that can be good to keep an eye out for: AFAB/AMAB, biological sex (when people say that gender is socially constructed but sex is biological).

Research if there are intersex organizations in your country and join their email list! That's a great way to stay informed about if there's any current initiatives, protests, legislative proposals, or other forms of activism you can get involved in.

Speak up when you see intersexism in every space you're in, whether that's people advocating for normalizing surgery, using the h-slur, or otherwise talking in ways that dehumanize or isolate intersex people.

Figure out a way to bring intersex awareness to the spaces that you're in! Whether this is putting up posters for Intersex Awareness day in October in your neighborhood, work, and community spaces, hosting an event at an organization or club about intersex topics, watching an intersex film with your friends, even something like making intersex pride stuff for the Sims if that's a hobby of yours--those are all great ways to introduce more people to intersex topics.

Listen to the intersex people in your life about how to support them! A lot of intersex people have a lot of very different experiences, needs, and wants. We don't have universal experiences and there are many different opinions on things in the intersex community. A lot of us are also multiply marginalized and our intersex identities are shaped by that.

I have a few questions; Firstly, Regarding Custom-Content hair and default hair replacements, which are the best and would you recommend and why? Thank you for the nice words! I’m really happy you enjoy my work!🥰😘

Now, let’s get into it.

For custom content hair, I use a lot of IfcaSims’ stuff. I just love their retextures (I think the shininess and fluffiness are on point). This creator has also made default replacement textures for most of the in-game hairs, which granted I’m not using myself but I thought it was worth mentioning for people with lower specs on their PCs.

Other creators to check out are Rollo-Rolls, Nemiga, Plumdrops and Chazzy. They make good quality conversions and are mindful about polycounts & bone assignments.

Speaking of polycounts, most of EA hairs are under 10k. So if you find a hair at 30K, you’ll know it’s high-poly. It can still be used in game, but sparsely. In order to prevent lag it’s better to NOT have an entire town of sims wearing high-poly hairs.

And that takes me to the next point – Default replacement hairs:

I’m using default replacements mostly from Maryjanesims3, Agnelid and some from FirefoxSims3. All of these creators have made efforts to have their DFs look good, but also lower the polys in order to prevent lag as much as possible.

Choose just one DF for every in-game item. When using DFs from multiple creators you can get confused and place multiple DFs for the same item. And some creators have two or more versions of DFs for the same item, so be careful with that.

I’m also merging my default replacement hairs by expansion (one package for BG, one for Amb, one for LN and so on).

Expect the defaults to look wonky after the first load. This happens for all kinds of DFs, but it’s very noticeable on hairs. MaryJaneSims3 has provided a solution for this situation here.

Now, about my future plans regarding CC...well, to (try to) make more male and other age categories CC, but I'm always tripping and go back to creating for females. I also have some worlds in the making, among which is a TS4 remake, but I'll provide info about them at the right time.

I thought a lot about creating clothing DF and how I'd go about it, but I don't really have the time to start on that front too. Even conversions have been slow from me lately. I hope I can find some time in the future; at least for conversions, if nothing else.

Hey, I was wondering what programs you use to create your custom content? Such as photo editing software, etc. Do you have any tips for beginners? I've been trying to figure it out but it's honestly SOOO hard :/ I honestly LOVE your cc, and use it on almost all my sims, at least one item per sim, lol. Especially the male CC. Hey! Thanks for the support! I'm sorry I don't know how to shorten my reply but here it goes. For the photo editing software--I'm just using adobe photoshop :) as for the mesh maker--it's Blender. Uuuugh... the first 3 months was sooooo hard for me too! щ(゜ロ゜щ)

I think the first thing to do is getting to know the Blender first--after watching CC tutorials. Blender is a very complex software in my opinion. So, at least you need to know the basic tools in Blender that you're going to need in CC making.

I honestly just went in to CC making with zero knowledge about the Blender tools (just relying on steps from CC tutorial videos). And I continued doing so for 3 or 6 months. The confusion didn't go away. So, I had to backtrack and learn about the Blender itself and make 3D donuts (the recommended step to learn blender). And after that, with some help from sims4studio forum--things got a lot easier! But yea, you need to read and watch tutorials a lot. You'll get better answers on sims4studio(.)com with more about the technical--or coding stuff of the CC. But the most important thing to me was understanding the Blender--just to get the mesh done.

Some of the tutorials recommend you to use Marvelous Designs, I used it for a while. But now I made my mesh directly on Blender (like I said--after knowing your tools, things got a lot easier).

it's been YEARS since i intentionally made any of sims die. i barely do gameplay these days and i am attached to the sims i make. but when i used to play sims chaotically, i preferred to "accidentally" murder sims by fire instead of deleting the pool ladder. i would furnish their houses with the cheapest stoves and fireplaces, and sit back and watching the inevitable unfold... it was the final destination fan in me.

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

i've always preferred creating masculine male sims/characters, that hasn't changed throughout the years. i've learned how to take better pictures, how to style my sims better, how to create the kinds of clothes i want to style them in, and i've learned my preferred slider settings and facial features/proportions. i make the same "genre" of male sims over and over and over again, so my style hasn't really changed, but my skills have improved and i've solidified my aesthetic which i am proud of :D

Who's your favourite CC creator?

i really can't pick a favourite because there is just so much sheer talent and a thriving cc community even today, but if i had to pick one, i would say rustynail. i used the shit out of their cc back in the day. everything my sims wore was straight off the runway darling... rusty brought glamour and high fashion to the sims! an inspiration.

How long have you had a simblr?

since even before 2013 😭 tumblr was my main social media for many years LMFAOOOOO and i made a simblr after following many ts3 blogs, being wowed by their screenshots, and i wanted to join in on the fun and wanted to download all the cool cc people were making... that was the start of my ts3 obsession !

i use a gshade preset i made, then i mostly just crop and add text in gimp. i don't have the patience to edit my pics.

Alhaitham is a good person to go to when you have questions. He knows a lot of things and, contrary to what many think, won’t tease you for now knowing things. There’s a lot of information in the world and since he doesn’t know it all, he doesn’t expect you to either.

He’s glad you have a fondness for history. That’s one of his fields of experience so he’s happy to talk to you about whatever you want regarding history.

Helps you out with your dyslexia. He knows quite a few books in the library that have been specifically designed for people with dyslexia.

I agree! I recognize that, when it comes to life sims, there are many different ways to enjoy them. That being said, I'm the kind of life sim player that likes leaning into the characters I'm playing as, which means I expect a certain degree of realism, especially when it comes to the creation of those characters. In that regard, I have found Create-A-Sim to be severely lacking in a lot of ways. Height is one of those.

And, despite their supposed effort to be inclusive when they added the ability to make genderqueer sims, I found the effort half-hearted and sloppy. They didn't bother redoing any of the clothing meshes for different body types, so clothes often look awkward and frankly fucking bad on certain bodies. Certain create-a-sim items still just aren't available for certain body types. (See: most of the nails from all packs for "male" sims with the "feminine" body type. And the ones that are included often get warped when using them.)

And I have no idea if Life By You or Paralives intend to include any content in this regard, but I would really like to see some representation of people living with disabilities. There are some wonderful mods that do what they can within the limits of the Sims and its engine as far as this goes, but I would like to see it as a base point of representation in life sims.

Also, as just a personal small complaint, although there are many things about the Sims 4 that I do enjoy, I never really liked the more cartoony and non-serious direction they took the design. I think a more light-hearted and cartoony life sim definitely appeals to certain people, but I'm not really one of them. And anyway, the Sims 4 seems to fall in a weird space between cartoony and realistic, so it never fully establishes itself in one camp or another, making the game suffer.

And all of that is not to mention the pervasive bugs that have been present in the game since jump and how badly optimized the game is to run all game packs simultaneously. Plus, the total price to own all the packs? Completely outrageous, to be frank. I'm really hoping the introduction of some real competitors on the market will force certain evolutions in the life sim genre as a whole.

I will probably end up buying both Life By You and Paralives. I enjoy playing multiple games that are very similar (see: many, many farming sims on the market), so it's not necessarily a matter to me of which one is going to be better but rather enjoying the different unique features that each of them will have. I'm looking forward to trying them both out!

What’s your favourite sims death? Gotta be laughing to death! I had a sim for a legacy challenge propose to her girlfriend once and her girlfriend was already in a silly goofy mood but rejected her and then proceeded to laugh to death. I hadn't even known that could happen and was caught completely off guard!

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? Nah if it happens it happens, you can't have a sim push out four babies for a legacy and still have a stick lol

4. Do you use move objects? Definitely do! Even switched back to my old keyboard because it is better equipped for handling move objects in build mode!

Kaz still to this day remains my favorite base to use when making male sims :3

First thing I created (like five blogs ago now) was a set of nerdy art for my sims, I also recolored a bunch of hairs in Pooklet's colors and recolored a handful of items. Pretty sure that's all gone now though and I definitely don't have time to do it anymore!

17. What’s your favorite game? Favorite series is forever Bioshock! The depth of the worlds and just how well those games were developed and thought out was always great for me! What Remains of Edith Finch changed my entire brain chemistry it was so good, Dragon Age Inquisition has been played about fifteen times, and I'm really enjoying Tears of the Kingdom right now!

20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? It's changed pretty drastically I'd say! My early sims, when I started really getting into the Sims 2, were all super goth and had the most wild and ridiculous outfits! I used to make sims who looked like they walked out of My Chemical Romance music videos! Now, though I still have to push myself to not use as many of the same or similar features (I'm really bad about almond eyes, down turned lips, and noses with the nostrils just so), I feel like I do make sims with more variety. I also work hard to make sims who are either queer, non-white, disabled, or occult as well. It's really easy to fall into a pattern of making the same kind of sim over and over so I fight that as much as I can.

22. Who’s your favorite CC creator? I think the creator I jump to download all their cc every time I reset and whose cc just gets used and abused in my game is @clumsyalienn! I have almost everything they make and I'm pretty sure every single sim I make has at least one thing on their's on them!

23. How long have you had a simblr? I've had this simblr since 2018, before that though I've had multiple other simblrs that either got killed off because of a lull in notes or just disuse. I started in the simblr community in 2009 I believe! I've been on tumblr since 2008 and as soon as I found the sims community I've always had a foot in the door!

What’s your favourite sims death? Death by chickens & bunnies (Cottage Living)

Alpha CC or MaxisMatch? I'm not a big alpha fan. I do have some alpha CC, but I'd say I'm 97% Maxis-match.

Do you cheat your sims weight? No, but they never really seem to change their weight, so.... ???

Do you use move objects? Absolutely! I do a lot of building and it's practically essential for building

Favourite Mod? MC Command Center. I don't actually have that many mods in my game, and I could live without most of them, but MCCC is too useful to play without at this point.

First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? Get To Work (EP), Outdoor Retreat (GP), and I forget which stuff pack I got first. It was either Spooky Stuff or Backyard Stuff.

Favourite EA hair? For both males and females, I really like the wavy hair that's tucked up in back, with wisps at the sides, that came with Eco Lifestyle.

Favourite life stage? Young Adult or Adult, simply because the majority of interactions and opportunities in the game are geared toward them. I'm starting to appreciate children a bit more, though they still leave much to be desired in terms of gameplay.

What sorts of kinks would you like to see in a future dating sim?

Mostly what I'm looking for in dating sims is variety, especially those that boast dozens of sex scenes as one of their selling points. Obviously developers can create love interests with a range of ages, races, and/or body types to help with that, but there are ways to improve creativity in the scenes themselves. Not everything I've listed here is a kink, but I still think they fit the theme.

More body hair: related to body types, but there aren't enough bears, otters, and other animal designations in most gay dating sims. I imagine that this is at least partially because drawing (much less animating) body hair is a long and tedious process, hence why smooth guys are much more common in animation in general. Still, it's worth the extra effort. Armpit and pubic hair should be standard, at the very least. Speaking of which...

Musk/watersports/raunch: these are tough kinks to include in a visual medium, because most of their appeal lies in smell and taste which can't really be conveyed adequately in words. They are nonetheless reasonably common and would not be difficult to implement, with only piss play being a line that some might not care for and that might need to be cordoned off with a more vanilla alternative provided.

Rimming: not remotely a kink, but nonetheless underutilized as a type of foreplay. It even partially accommodates the tendency of these games to skip on the artificial lube, particularly when paired with blowjobs.

Actual edging: I've seen some games that refer to edging, but it's always within the context of a single scene. A character doesn't have to orgasm at the end of every encounter, and having someone deliberately prolong the experience for greater effect later on would be a good way to disrupt an otherwise predictable rhythm of sex scenes.

Uncut men/genital piercings: it's quite odd to me that the overwhelmingly majority of guys in these games are circumcised. This might also be a matter of simplicity for the artists like body hair, because it's easier to draw dicks without foreskins especially if they're going to go from flaccid to erect during a scene. Having uncut men adds variety however, along with opening the door for docking if that can be arranged. Ditto piercings as another simple way to make dicks look distinct from one another. I was pleased to see that Jock Studio has several uncut options as well as one love interest with a pierced head.

Trans men: pretty obvious, but a trans male love interest would open up various new options for sex scenes. This is one of many, many things that Dream Daddy screwed up.

Feminization: may seem to violate the exclusively M/M content of these sorts of games, but kinky genderfluidity is a thing and there are ways to work in crossdressing and related dirty talk as a form of roleplay. That's not even touching on the possibility of a nonbinary or trans female love interest, either; I praised Full Service for its handling of a trans/genderqueer NPC who came to realize her identity in part through her sexual relationships with men, and I think that's something that can still fit within the boundaries of stories like these. (I don't consider either of these options inherently better than the other, by the way, but I do think they're both possible.)

Actual BDSM: games like these are already rife with what I think of as casual bondage: someone ties someone else up, maybe they get gagged or collared, might be a butt plug in there...that kind of thing. What would be interesting would be a love interest who's actually involved in the lifestyle and could guide the (habitually clueless) main character into a role he finds he enjoys. Taken more hardcore, this could potentially allow for exploring darker kinks in a context where it can still be understood as part of a healthy, consensual relationship: humiliation kink, sensory deprivation, pain play like CBT, etc.

Costume roleplay: trivially easy to do but still not utilized much, and opens up all sorts of possibilities including pup/pet play, uniform kink, medical kink and other profession roleplay, feminization, etc. Camp Buddy and Scoutmaster Season are both pretty creative with this one.

Size difference: comes down to body type mostly, but if there's a strong contrast it can be fun to play up. The same goes for age gaps and daddy kink, but that may come off as more taboo (despite being somewhat regular in hookup culture).

Furry and furry-adjacent kink: Dear Monster went there, but even in a mundane setting there's a bunch of kinks that could work this in. Have a guy wear ears and a tail, engage in pup play or pony play, do some fantasy cosplay event with orcs or elves or whatever, get all Greek mythology with it like guys into satyrs and minotaurs and merpeople aesthetics. Alternatively, you could just do actual furries - although I'm aware that several games like that already exist.

Hi! Thanks for asking this question! I’m sorry it’s taken me a while to answer this, but I wanted to take my time and give this response a lot of thought.

In truth, I have been thinking about how to approach creating CC in a way that is inclusive of gender nonconforming, trans, and non-binary sims for a while now. Unfortunately, I still haven’t really been able to figure out the best way to approach it because of the constraints the game places on how clothing works.

You are totally right, that unticking “restrict opposite frame” ends up making the clothes look wonky. I’ve tried making trans sims, and have even tried to follow guides/tutorials like this one, but honestly, I still can’t really get most clothes to look good.

While The Sims/EA is definitely trying to push for more inclusivity with the ability to choose frame, style preference, pronouns, etc., the biggest hurdle is the hard-baked foundation of their original clothing and frame systems.

I feel like restricting clothes by frame produces the best result in terms of the morphs the game forces, but without an accompanying piece made for the opposite frame, it ends up being exclusionary. Unfortunately, creating a second mesh (technically four more meshes because of the LODs) doubles the work it would take to make something, and that’s assuming the process goes smoothly the first time without any issues. (There’s also the problem of finding an appropriate EA clone to use as a base, which may prove tricky depending on what is being made)

This is kind of what I tried to do for my Retro & Proud set, but I think I really fumbled on the tags part because I didn’t have a great grasp on how players make trans/nb/gnc sims. To be honest, I still don’t have a clear idea of how to tag things, because everyone is going to play this game differently.

I would like to look into making a set of CC in a more general/basic style with separate meshes for both of EA’s frames (similar to the Retro & Proud set), but with a better approach to the tags. A project like that will take time, though, so it won’t be ready any time soon. Outside of specific sets like that, my CC clothing will likely still be made for a single frame.

Townie Makeovers: Don Lothario

I really didn't get how the EA version of this man ever got to be the ladies' man. So I gave him a lot of genetic tweaking to make him look attractive somehow. I'm not really sure if I'm happy with him yet as I'm really having a hard time with male sims. Help.

As previously mentioned, I moved out Don Lothario from the Calientes and got him his own little bachelor pad. Interestingly, he has no friends in the game and knows absolutely no one else aside from the Calientes. I'm thinking he should at least be acquainted with the Roomies and Johnny Zest at the very least?

I still have one household left to makeover in Oasis Springs and some stragglers and I'm done with base game makeovers.

How to Have Better Weddings without the New Game Pack - Part 1

By now, we all know the wedding game pack is broken. So if you're like me who's holding off on purchasing the game pack until it's fixed or until modders find a way to fix the game bugs, here is a list of custom content/mods for better weddings so we can still have our dream weddings in game.

Essential

The base game patch to add a new wedding venue is not available for wedding events, apparently.

Wedding Venue Bugfix by @lotharihoe - also makes the wedding arch required for weddings (because you can't get married without one!)

sitatweddings by bienchen - The most annoying thing about sims is that they don't sit and watch the ceremony. This might be obsolete for those with the new GP and I'm not sure if this will be maintained in the future as well.

Longer Parties & More Guests - This mod allows your parties to last up to 24 hours and gives you the ability to invite up to 200 guests. Please note that you can still end parties as early as you like by clicking on the event timer.

Better Community by Kawaii Stacie - This mod is good for making lots more full/diverse and for storytelling. You will be able to spawn more sims on your lots and pick which sims that spawn.

re: sims 4 high school pack, i think(?) there's some speculation that they might add sexual orientations with the pack and i don't know how i feel about it. (TE/RFs & other trans/phobes get tf away from me & my posts)

i just can't think of a way to implement that in the game while being respectful to non-binary sims. i mean, the fact that you always have to choose between male or female still, is already problematic anyway. if they fixed that and made it like "woman", "man", "non-binary", "custom label" or something, that would be cool.

but i still can't think of how they could create a sexuality system that works for everybody. like, if your sim is a gay man but then you have a sim that's "custom gender: demiboy", and a sim that's "custom gender: demigirl" how would the game be able to tell this gay man can feel attraction to the first sim but not the second one. and no way can they just make a list with all the genders, that's literally impossible.

also, idk if anybody else is having this problem, but i played with this enby sim and i did custom pronouns and i chose "male" bc in the game that basically just means "no breasts". but the custom pronouns only worked sometimes, and sometimes it would just default back to "he/him". i changed the pronouns from custom to "they/them" but still the same issue🙄

also, kind of unrelated, but my sims that are recognized as "male" by the game but have a ""feminine"" frame cannot wear nail polish. it just doesn't even show up for them,,,, why

idk. i don't actually think they will add sexualities, i think whatever they said about finding your identity has to do with a new system to customize your sim's personality, i imagine similar to the lifestyles from snowy escape.

i do think, theoretically, it would be cool to give your sim a sexuality label and play figuring yourself out type stories... but yeah, i'm just worried whatever system they'd come up with wouldn't be inclusive for everybody, and would also probably have bugs. so maybe one's sim's sexuality is better left in one's imagination. idk. maybe people who are smarter than me have ideas on how to implement this successfully. i'm just thinking my little thoughts over here
