Four Years Earlier

“I thought he was vaccinated against everything,” Rory commented snidely, watching as Sam checked Tommy’s temperature.
“Yeah? You think I got a magic shot that keeps people from getting any kind of sickness, and I’m wasting it on chum like him?” Sam snapped back, pulling the thermometer out and squinting to read it.
“One-oh-three. That’s not a good sign. At 104, your body temperature starts to denature the proteins in your brain. You know what that means, dipshit?”
Rory bristled, but Michelle put a hand on his shoulder.
“It means you start to cook.” Michelle’s voice was soft but serious, his dark brown eyes trained on Tommy. He sighed and tucked a short loc behind his ear. He had a pacifying effect on Rory, which was much appreciated with them all crammed inside Tommy’s little room.
Tommy was laying on the bed, shivering even as sweat beaded on his forehead. He clutched his thin bedsheet in his hands like it was a lifeline. Or at least, with one hand, and the fingers poking out of his cast on the other.
“So… can you give him an antibiotic or something?” Rory tried.
“Maybe you could use some chicken soup,” Caius murmured to Tommy. He was sitting on the bed by Tommy’s knees, and he smoothed the sheets over him with gentle hands.
Sam was digging in his pockets, pulling out a random assortment of pills, pocket change, and lint. He set them on the sheet over Tommy’s stomach until he had a little pile from his various pockets. Rory scoffed, but let it go with a low mutter of “whatever” when Michelle gave him a look.
Sam gathered a couple of red pills from his pile, as well as selecting three big white tablets.
“These will knock it out. If he isn’t significantly improved by tomorrow, I can try a different set.”
“What does he have?” Caius asked, picking the bits of lint out of the pile and flicking them off of the bed.
“It’s probably the same bug everyone has been getting lately. Could’ve picked it up from a client, or one of you. Regardless, he’ll be right as rain in a matter of days.”
Sam was very nonchalant about it, but Caius continued to fidget. Sam swiped the unused pills back into his pockets and sighed.
“He’s got a cold. Maybe a cool bath or shower, nothing hot until that temperature goes down. Chicken soup, sure, lots of garlic. Fruit juice if he’s allowed it, get some vitamin C. Take it easy, lots of rest, all the normal stuff.”
“Okay,” Caius affirmed, pulling loose threads from a small rip in the bedsheet.
“All good then?” Michelle asked. He and Rory were itching to leave - Tommy was Caius’s business to mind, after all.
“Yeah, all good,” Sam told them, and they shuffled out with mumbled goodbyes.
Caius hadn’t met Sam’s eyes since he got here.
“It was bound to happen, you know, at some point. It’ll probably happen again, but it’s fine.”
Caius nodded.
Sam sighed and put a tentative hand on his shoulder.
“You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“I know,” Caius snapped, finally taking his eyes off of Tommy to give Sam a withering look, but it seemed to break his spell.
Okay, clearly the crazy train was full steam ahead today. Caius was a lot less concerned a week ago when he dragged Tommy into the lab by the wrist he’d shattered.
“Oooooookay, well, have fun with sicko here then. Let me know if he dies,” he joked lamely. Tommy pulled the sheet over his face, and Caius chuckled in spite of himself.
After Sam left, Caius locked the door behind him. Not that his patient was going anywhere fast, but he wanted privacy. Tommy whined when Caius pulled the sheet away, but was too weak to argue when he coaxed him to sit up.
“Open.”
Tommy’s mouth dropped open. Caius slipped him the red pills.
“Head back.”
He tipped the glass of water to his mouth, and Tommy drank. Hesitantly at first, and then eagerly, until Caius pulled it away.
“Couple more pills, then you can have some lemonade.”
The white pills weren’t coated, and they left a faint white chalk on Caius’s fingers. Tommy grimaced at the bitter taste, and Caius pressed the glass to his mouth again quickly.
“Swallow, swallow.” He’d heard you could massage a person’s neck to make them swallow, but he wasn’t sure how. He wrapped his hand around Tommy’s throat, but he did not squeeze, just felt the fragile bones under his fingers as they flexed.
“Good boy,” he murmured, and brushed Tommy’s hair away from his forehead. It felt incredibly warm.
One degree away from cooking his brain. Right.
“Let’s get you a nice cold bath, hm?”
—
Tommy had to keep his cast dry, so he sat in the bath with his injured arm dangling over the side. He shivered as the tub slowly filled around him, but still downed the cold lemonade Caius gave him without hesitation. Caius also brought down two of his washcloths, dunking them in the water and laying one on his forehead. The other one went over his belly, which made Tommy cringe, and he moved to pull it off. He grabbed for it with his bad hand on instinct, and got distracted looking at his cast. He looked between his two arms, and his brow furrowed with concern.
“Is my skin turning yellow?”
Caius looked him over. He looked flushed, but not yellow.
“No. You have a fever, you’re just seeing things.”
“Oh.”
Tommy was quiet and still. His eyes drooped and he quickly started to nod off, even in the cold tub.
It was so rare to see him relaxed like this. Caius usually only saw it when he was unconscious, or at the very least, heavily drugged. Tommy wasn’t trying to shield himself or hide or cower. Caius relished the effect that he had on the boy, but there was a simple pleasure here in a more relaxed, companionable silence.
Tommy startled awake with a gasp.
“Breathe, honey.”
Tommy groaned and tried to sit up a bit, but he started to prop himself up with his broken arm without thinking. He yelped and yanked his hand back immediately, making him fall back the slight distance he had gained. The bath water splashed, and Caius sighed.
Tommy cradled his broken arm against his chest, keening quietly to himself and grimacing as the pain flared intensely. He folded his legs closer to his chest and anxiously bounced them while he waited for the pain to ease. Caius dangled his arm into the tub, drawing idle patterns in the water with his fingers. After a few minutes he pulled his hand out, flicking thne water off of his fingers onto Tommy with a shy smile. He peeled the washcloth off of his forehead and replaced it with the back of his hand. He felt a little cooler, but still quite warm. Caius ran the washcloth under the cold tap again, and Tommy winced weakly when he laid it back on his head. He let the cold tap run a while longer, drawing his patterns in the rising water.
Either the pain had passed, or Tommy had wiped himself out. He slowly relaxed limp in the tub, his legs settling to the bottom and his arms resting heavily on the sides of the bath. He trembled slightly as the icy water slowly climbed his body, but he was too tired to curl up again.
“Did you call me ‘honey’?”
Caius murmured back without looking up, watching his hand idly playing in the water just above Tommy’s submerged thigh.
“I don’t know, I just feel like babying you right now.”
Caius was surprised by his own sudden honesty, but it felt good to say. He doubted Tommy would remember much of this anyways, and he felt oddly comforted by it. He felt silly for getting so shy about Tommy all of the sudden.
Tommy was quiet for a moment before swallowing.
“Does that mean you’ll sign my cast?”
Caius looked up at that. Tommy was breathing shallowly, but he met Caius’s gaze with a soft expression.
“My mom told me that the more people you get to sign your cast, the better it’ll heal.”
Caius chewed his lip for a moment, mulling it over. He reluctantly left Tommy to go find a marker. He passed by the kitchen and stopped to dig in a cupboard for Michelle’s candy stash. He found a nice bar of dark chocolate, each broad square filled with a liquid raspberry center. He’d go into town in a day or two, he’d have to remember to pick something up to replace it.
When he returned to Tommy, the bath was starting to fill too high. He turned it off, but found Tommy asleep. He had lost the flush in his cheeks, and was starting to look quite pale. He woke him up with a square of chocolate pressed to his pale lips.
“I think you need some sugar. Chocolate is good for the soul.”
Tommy opened his eyes blurrily, confused. He licked his dry lips and accepted the chocolate, biting down slowly, careful not to bite Caius’s fingertips. Well…careful not to bite him hard, anyways. Once he swallowed it, Caius pushed his fingers past his lips again just to feel along his teeth with the tips of his fingers. Tommy didn’t resist, just tolerated it without the energy to care. When he was satisfied, he wiped his hand on Tommy’s cheek before grabbing a square for himself. He bit it in half before pulling it away, holding it up to look at the chocolate cross-section.
It had a thin dark chocolate shell, but inside there was a sweet raspberry filling dyed bright red. He flattened it between his fingers, and the filling bulged around the cracks in the chocolate as he crushed it. He brought it to Tommy, who opened his mouth expectantly, but he just rubbed the raspberry cream on Tommy’s lips. He flicked off a few bits of the chocolate and spread it with his finger, painting it on like a messy lipstick. He wiped his finger clean on Tommy’s cheek, and took a look at his work.
Tommy was very pale now, a bluish tinge to the shadows on his skin. The bright pop of color painted on his lips made his lips look plump and swollen. He’d left a little smudge of rouge on the apple of his cheek.
Tommy was struggling to stay awake, his eyes fluttering back open.
“How - how long are you going to keep me?”
Caius considered the question for a moment, cracking a crooked grin.
“Why would I let you go?”
Tommy stared at the bathtub faucet, slowly dripping into the water.
“I mean… what’s the plan? I’m just going to be here for - for our whole lives? I’m going to turn thirty here? Fourty-five? Are you going to come home to me when you cash out your 401k?”
Caius pressed his hand down on Tommy’s casted wrist, holding him still as he started to write his name on the cast in black marker. Tommy sucked a breath in and jolted when his wrist was touched.
“Are we gonna…grow old together? Be old men in rocking chairs on the porch? What will the neighbors think…”
Caius chuckled, drawing a heart around his initials before adding an arrow.
“Yeah, I guess we will. The neighbors can think what they want.”
Tommy grew very quiet. His face was difficult to read, no clear emotion that Caius could find. After a surprisingly long several minutes, he spoke.
“That’s… my whole life. This is my life now? Until I die?”
Caius started drawing a tiny sketch of Tommy in the bathtub on his cast.
“Sooner or later.”
Tommy winced.
“Am I going to – are you gonna kill me?”
“No,” Caius reassured him with a hand on his chest.
“-Not unless I have to.”
Tommy’s breathing was growing quicker, his ribs rising and falling under bruised skin.
“How many of – how many of…us…have you killed?
Caius pressed his lips together and made a disapproving noise.
“You’re only our second. But, yes, the last guy didn’t make it.”
A small worried look passed his face, but then he took a deep breath and relaxed.
“What happened?”
Caius offered another piece of chocolate to his lips. When he didn’t open immediately, Caius chided him, until he hesitantly accepted it. Caius popped himself another piece, taking his time to enjoy it before considering answering.
“We went to this church in the hills. There was this hot-shot cardinal who wanted a private lesson on crucifixion.”
Caius flicked the metal peg below the bathtub faucet and the water began to drain out with a gurgle. He turned the hot tap on, letting it pour in even as the water started to chug down the drain. He gently wiped Tommy’s face with the washcloth, eyeing the pink that had already returned to his cheeks, before dropping it crumpled on his chest.
“He paid extra so he could really take his time. Once he nailed him up there, the last you was trapped for hours. I was… I didn’t know enough about it until it was too late. I thought they’d eventually die up there by dehydration, or exposure, so a day of it sounded mostly harmless.”
“Mostly harmless,” Tommy echoed back hollowly. He stared into space, off into the distance far beyond the walls of this room. He was still in a stupor from his sickness, Caius could tell because he wasn’t panicking.
He gently petted Tommy’s hair away from his face and started to comb through it, stroking each strand before winding the curls back in around his fingers. He had refused to cut Tommy’s hair since they brought him back to the house, and it was starting to get long.
“He said he was dying. I didn’t believe him, he’d said it before. When he went quiet we just thought it was shock. The cardinal had this fucking bull whip, and he was unbelievably accurate with it.”
He pushed the drain back in. Tommy had drawn up his knees to try to avoid the scalding water, and he was blushed red where the hot water cupped his body.
“That’s why you must only call for me if you are dying. I have to trust you to tell me. But if you always say that you cannot take it, then I won’t know to listen to you when I need to.”
He cupped Tommy’s face and guided him to meet his eyes. Tommy had a hard time focusing, but once he did, Caius gave him a firm nod and released him.
“The thing about crucifixion, it’s a sneaky killer. I read about it later, at the time I didn’t know what had happened. Something about your arms being pinned above your head causing the lungs to slowly fill with liquid. He had just had pneumonia, I thought he was healed enough. I think that’s why it happened so fast. He drowned inside of his body. He was fine, and then he was quiet, and then he was just gone. He was already starting to cool when we took him down.”
Tommy was staring at the ceiling. Caius could see the realization slowly, slowly dawning in his eyes.
“It’s okay, I’ll take care of you.”
Tommy’s eyes unfocused again, the hot bath fanning his fever. It eased him back into a docile mood, and when Caius put a hand to his cheek, he nuzzled into it. His face felt warm, but the meds would kick in soon, no brain boiling tonight.
He let the water drain out and left Tommy in the emptying tub. He didn’t lock the door behind him before heading to the kitchen, thinking about his favorite recipe for chicken noodle soup.

Have I obligated myself to have a ‘take’ on Witch From Mercury? I mean, I’ve posted pieces concerning every main Gundam anime thing I’ve watched except Cucuruz Doan's Island (because I have nothing to *say* about Cucuruz Doan's Island except that hearing Lucian Dodge voice Amuro is a *trip* for an Iron-Blooded Oprhans’ fan, let me tell you). In my own head at least, this creates the completionist urge to note something down now G-Witch is over. And hey, I believe in exorcising nagging thoughts so why not? Spoilers and unfavourable opinions ahead. In fact, I’m going to use a cut because this show seems popular around here and I’m not monster enough to rain on anyone’s parade about it.
It’d be nice to say, ‘basically fine for what it is but not my thing’. The problem is, I’m not sure I can say that, having found it so unbearably messy to watch. It could be my peculiar brain wiring that makes it frustrating to have a story constantly introduce stuff that neither goes anywhere nor coheres especially well with itself if you stop and think about it for five minutes. But it does feel like this would have been vastly improved by cutting something -- anything -- to make some room for thrust of the main plot.
I have a specific beef with the lack of characterisation for A(Eri)al. We are *told* how much Suletta cares for her and how crucial that relationship is through the first season, and of course it’s vital to the struggles and resolution of season two. But it’s hard to point to an example prior to Suletta’s little vision-quest-slash-being-dumped escapade where they interact in a meaningful fashion. It seems extremely one-sided and I’m not sure how intentional that is. This loops around to a complaint about sloppy world-building (a school is the perfect setting to introduce concepts to be later expanded or subverted and the show resolutely Does Not Do That), but is a more significant matter since we’re talking about emotional beats. You know, the things that actually drive a story along.
And look, anything that gets me saying ‘show don’t tell’ has already stretched my patience thin. But it would have been so simple to have included more moments of Suletta pouring her heart out to her Gundam -- with the interface responding in some inscrutable fashion -- I find it genuinely baffling that didn’t happen in place of, I dunno, the Jeturk family drama.
Oh, speaking of which, second beef: if you are placed in the situation where you need to displace a bunch of ‘traditional Gundam story beats’ on to a pseudo-rival/protagonist character, maybe consider . . . just not hitting those beats? (I know, this is a long-running franchise, this is how it goes, executive meddling etc. That doesn’t make it less irritating to have it all culminate in an out-of-nowhere fencing match in reference to a 40-year-old fight scene when the objectively correct way of resolving a plot about arbitrary and unfair systems of rules is with rock-paper-scissors.)
It’s a shame there’s the germ of a neat idea in that concept of displacement, because Guel feels like the part that could have been most easily jettisoned to create space. The Elans have emotional heft as an explicit parallel to Suletta, Elan-5′s relationship with Norea being a vital example of the ‘love me, flaws and all’ refrain at the heart of the story. But Lauda and Guel having a barney in the middle of finale feels egregious and like it only exists to get an extra Gundam into play (an entirely arbitrary requirement). Though I suppose the fact I barely remembered to mention Shaddiq here also speaks to something else that didn’t really resonate or seem to go anywhere in particular.
Here is where you can fill in for yourself the long list of complaints about the show raising issues it doesn’t care about doing justice to. War-profiteering, the traumatising effects of violence, possibilities of future medical technology, corporate influence on geopolitics, social inequality, refugee crises, yadda yadda yadda. G-Witch doesn’t have anything to say about any of these things. It’s a family drama and that really is fine, if that’s the story it wants to tell. It’s about the doings of the privileged (those literally raised on high) and their tribulations are the focus over and above harm to anyone else. It is what it is. I could whine for days about this stuff, but it’s no worse than you’d find in many pieces of comparable media. Cherish the exceptions.
To say something nice, lest you think all I have are complaints, this show is beautifully animated throughout (I did find the action inside the data-storm hard to follow, owing to the lighting choices, but I think that’s a me thing) and very well directed. The mecha designs are solid, even if we were robbed of more touches like the rocket broomstick. For all my above grouching, Felsi coming out of nowhere with a fire-extinguisher was a fantastic, knowing way to halt Guel and Lauda’s fratricide arc. And I need to stress, the central story about Suleta, Miorine, Eri, Prospera and Delling really is fine. Not my thing and I’m way past the demographic, but on its own terms, it’s fine.
It’s just stuck in the middle of a distracting mess of half-baked concepts, meaningless call-backs and a cast suitable for an anime twice as long. It’s tempting to pin everything on that last part, to hypothesise this was going to be or should have been 50 episodes, not 24. I’m inclined to take the opposite track. I think there is a perfectly functional 24-episode story here that got stuffed with far too many moving parts for its own good.
Right, done. Where does that leave the final ‘in my opinion’ ranking? Starting from the bottom (by the way, I’m now at the ‘I flatly refuse to watch Victory Gundam’ stage so just write that one off entirely):
Mobile Suit Gundam AGE (2011) [The one I actively hate]
Mobile Suit Gundam F91 (1991) [Dull]
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory (1991) [Slightly less dull]
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002) [Uninteresting]
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack (1988) [Mean-spirited]
Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway (2021) [I intensely dislike the fight scenes]
Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island (2022) [I honestly forgot to add this]
Mobile Suit Gundam (compilation movies; 1979) [Deserves smarter call-backs]
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (1989) [Good for what it is]
Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt (2015) [Also good for what it is]
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Destiny (2004) [Frustrating]
Mobile Suit Gundam 00/Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer (2007/2010) [Bonkers, politically aggravating]
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1985) [Interesting]
Mobile Suit Gundam: Unicorn (2010) [Well-made]
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986) [Fun but janky]
Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury (2022) [See above]
Mobile Fighter G Gundam (1994) [Delightfully committed to the bit]
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing/Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz (1995/1997) [big for a reason]
Mobile Suit Gundam: Twilight AXIS (2017) [Nicely done]
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin (2015) [Best-case scenario for fannishness]
Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative (2018) [Surprisingly enjoyable]
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team (1996) [Bags of fun]
Gundam Reconguista in G (2014) [Pretty popcorn]
After War Gundam X (1996) [Genuinely a lot cleverer than it looks]
Turn A Gundam (1999) [Deliriously smart]

[ad_1] Ravindra Jadeja at the Gabba Nets ahead of the third Test vs Australia (PC: Debasis Sen) Lord’s 2014, and England had given India a green top. Despite Ajinkya Rahane’s fine first innings ton, India were far from safe going into the second innings. And when MS Dhoni was dismissed, leaving Murali Vijay stranded, hopes of an Indian win seemed remote. In walked Ravindra Jadeja. Two hours later came the first-ever sword dance. A Ravindra Jadeja 50, and the match had been set up. Thanks to Ishant Sharma’s super bowling effort, India won a famous victory, which to an extent had also been set up by Jadeja. Back home, he has always been superb. But overseas as well, his impact has been undeniable. Think of Melbourne 2020. While we all celebrate Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership and century, Jadeja’s half-century was as important. Few can forget the Steve Smith run-out, and time and again, Jadeja has made a telling impact for India. Let’s also state that none of us have anything against Washington Sundar. I am sure he will play many more Test matches for India, but that doesn’t mean the Jadeja selection is a bad one. He adds batting depth and will also hold one end up as and when needed. Now that India have won the toss and are bowling, more so. An out-and-out team man, few could ever debate a Jadeja selection. One also feels for R Ashwin. He did nothing wrong in Adelaide, and had Mohammed Siraj taken the Travis Head catch, things could have been different for India. Having said that, however, the fragility in the batting made the Jadeja/Sundar selection inevitable. India need extra runs and both of them seem more capable in these conditions. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Ravindra Jadeja (PC: Ravindra Jadeja Instagram) If we take a look at some of India’s best wins in recent times, Jadeja’s imprint on them is undeniable. Be it the Melbourne triumph in 2020, when he stitched a very important partnership with Rahane, or his performances in England, Jadeja has been a key ingredient in India’s success. A much-improved batter than he was some years ago, Jadeja is a genuine all-rounder in every sense. Not just a bowler who can also bat, but rather one who is equally effective with bat and ball. And that’s where he is invaluable for India. Be it this match or going ahead in the series, Jadeja’s presence will be key for India. What explains his improvement as a batter? And how did he work it all out in the mind? Jadeja had explained this sometime back. “To play well in Test cricket was an ambition I had for a long time, and I am glad I have been able to do so,” he said. “I used to tell myself that if can score triple hundreds in domestic cricket, there is no reason why I can’t score runs at the international level. Scoring important runs for India gives you real joy and is something I am proud of.” Jadeja may not have too much to do with the ball on day 1, with rain around and the wicket not doing too much for him. But if Jasprit Bumrah needs a breather and India need to play the waiting game for a while, his hand will be up. As a left-hand batting option, he will also ensure that Australia’s bowlers don’t settle into a line and length. That can come in really handy in a high-intensity Test series. In every sense, it is a good selection and one that could have been made earlier as well. I've been quietly watching and enjoying Love in the Air for the past four weeks. While it's not the show I regularly comment on, episode 4 urges me to make this post to appreciate how highly accurate the show is in portraying the first-year architecture student's life. I think showing it with this level of detail is quite important as it's part of Rain's character development. I am not here to comment on Phayu and Rain's relationship or their characters. I am here solely to gush about that portrayal.
(1) The most critical advice I wish I had heard during my first year as an architecture student: "Before you design a house, you need to design your life first." This is a sensible and mature approach from Phayu to Rain, considering he already graduated, and he understands the stage Rain is going through and what he needs to do and focus on right now. And I am glad Rain listened to him. It's easy to slip off your focus during these times, so it's good to have someone who could remind you of that.
(2) The studio! Oh, so much accuracy! The table setting, the artwork shelves, the pin-ups. I think it's a shared studio class with the art department, judging from all the stuff displayed on the shelves.
(3) Sky is the best friend and emotional support that you need, especially during the clash between your end of semester assigments deadlines and your love life. I wish we could also see his love storyline along with Rain's.
(4) Checking model and giving notes for improvement and notes of encouragement: this is a love language. Period.
(5) This is what you usually see when an architecture student is wrapping up their assignment. The last part is usually to work on the model. Again, I love the details: the scattered references, the printed part of the assignment, the messy table, the tools (that cutter and cutting board), and the paper remains.
(6) Checking the assignment's output: model, checked; presentation boards, checked. Well, usually, it also includes a bundle of drawings. But, from what I see, the drawings were included as part of the presentation boards. So that's it.
(7) Finished before deadlines? It's a miracle! Truly!
(8) That happiness called my bed. Very much relatable.
(9) The presentation details - I love this thoughtful title of the project: "Home Co-Housing for Future" (a bit of typo there, I see, but that's fine, really). Rain totally nailed his project. The outputs are well-made, neat, and effective.
(10) The presentation session. Rain did great and finally earned praise from the strict professor! Great job, Rain!
I can't say enough how much I LOVE seeing all these details. As a drama/series viewer, I love my shows to have a good plot and great writing of the characters. But I love it more if they also equally focus on the setting, property details, and music. This one just catches my eye right away.

Hello, I have a request that's been eating at me. I read a lot of fics where the reader is afraid of thunderstorms, but I really can't relate. My family used to sit on the porch and watch the lightning like I was looking at fireworks, the rumbles lull me to sleep. I was also one of those kids who rain outside in heavy rain. Can I request some Shouto, Izuku, Kaachan and Kaminari heacanons with an S/O who looooves thunderstorms and heavy rains please?
s/o who loves thunderstorms
featuring: todoroki, midoriya, bakugo, and kaminari
the older i get the more i appreciate the sounds of heavy nature. i also like the idea of flipping concepts and doing something different! thank you and enjoy. x
todoroki
he also enjoys the soothing sound of thunder and heavy rain
he’s already a pretty sleepy boy so staying up and watching storms with you is almost out of the question
he’ll do it if you want but he’ll most likely be fast asleep in about ten minutes
and you’ll know when his head starts to lean into your shoulder
he prefers falling asleep with you during a storm
he finds the sentiment very comforting and the way you snuggle up to him makes him feel all warm and cozy
he’s not a huge fan of you running outside in the rain but he can’t complain if it makes you happy, he’s happy to watch you from a drier spot
one time you asked him if his quirk would work during a storm
like if he could freeze the rain or if he could even use his fire side at all
that got him thinking and he became curious about it too because he didn’t know either
he did have preconceived notions about it like that his fire side would be particularly useless during a heavy rainstorm
and that he could only make ice itself and wasn’t so sure that he could freeze moving rain
you thought that maybe this could be a new revelation for his power and that he could combine the two quirks and create steam or something
although he was doubtful, he tried anyway but the rain was still affecting his ability mostly to produce heat
“it looks like i’ll have to try it another time when it’s not raining. now, we should get inside before you get sick, my love.”
he makes sure you’re all showered and dry and comfy before getting relaxed with him under a blanket
at this point you’re glued to his left side because of how warm he is
he’ll even raise the temperature a little higher so it feels like the blanket just came out of the dryer and you feel so comfortable
it makes you fully relax as you doze off on him with the soothing sound of rain hitting the building in the background
he sees you struggling to stay awake, “you can fall asleep on me if you like, baby.”
he rubs your back with his warm hand and kisses your head, effectively making you succumb to sleep
midoriya
he seems like someone who would be spooked by thunder and lightning claps
so you’d most likely be the one comforting him during a storm
and he definitely doesn’t like you going outside in that kind of weather
he’s afraid you’ll get struck by lightning
however, he wants to beat this fear of storms because he might have to fight a villain during one and he wants to be prepared for anything
so he starts practicing kicks outside whenever it rains
more like every time it rains
and he’ll be out there for a while, just trying to improve his mobility in the rain
which is not out of character for him
even before you started dating, you knew that he was persistent and didn’t give up so easily
it’s both a good and bad quality to have
the bad being that he doesn’t know when to quit, even when his body is telling him to do so
you felt a little hypocritical about dragging him out of the rain like he’s done to you
but this wasn’t so much about the rain than about what he’s doing to himself
once you finally get him inside and make sure a hot shower, warm clothes, and some tea are in order
he’s very grateful for how much you take care of him
“thank you, sweetie. i know i can push it too hard sometimes but i do appreciate what you do for me. you should try training out in the rain too sometime though!”
it’s hard not to smile at his undying enthusiasm
you agree to go out with him next time but for the time being, you’d rather stay inside and listening to the storm with him
even though he trains outside in the rain now, it doesn’t change him getting jumpy from the thunder claps
but luckily, he has you to snuggle into him to look forward to
bakugo
he doesn’t understand your fascination of heavy rain and thunder
meanwhile he’s literally out like a light during storms
he’s used to loud noises like that given his quirk so it never bothers him
it can keep you up though because you just love to watch it
so he doesn’t love to share a bed with you during a storm as he just wants to sleep
more like he just wants you to sleep next to him instead of watching some stupid rain
“hey, dumbass. quit staring out the window and come lay next to me!”
he literally has to drag you to bed so you don’t stay up too late
he’ll hold you tight against his body to try to get you to relax and go to sleep
but then you’ll start squirming in his hold and feeling those movements against him makes him blush
“why are you so fidgety, you idiot?”
he ends up laying on top of you, which is perfectly fine because it’s one of his favorite ways to cuddle you anyway
he will not, however, run around like an idiot outside in the rain
he also doesn’t even care that midoriya is training outside in the rain because what villain would be dumb enough to attack in a thunderstorm?
he usually has to go out to reign you in at some point
and one time when he finally caught you by your wrists, he couldn’t help but notice how attractive you were in that moment
your hair drenched was and stuck to your neck
and he was mesmerized by the droplets of rainwater running down to pool in your heaving collarbones
he felt the need to pull you in for a kiss with his hands holding either side of your head
he was definitely the stupidest thing he had ever done but the way you looked at him after the heated kiss was all worth it
unfortunately, he got sick after that and blames you for all of it but he feels lucky that you’re there to take care of him
kaminari
he likes them but mostly because he feels “more powerful” due to the lightning
so he’s more of a heat storm person that likes to watch the lightning behind the clouds
he can get a little too overzealous about it, “what if i could bend lightning like in avatar? wouldn’t that be the coolest, babe?”
you point out that he can already bend lightning but he thinks that ‘electrification’ doesn’t sound as cool
sometimes he attributes your attraction to him to your love of thunderstorms and lightning
you had never really made the connection and you always tell him that he’s just a cute and sweet boy that love you too
he also can get a little jumpy with the thunder because sometimes it’s really loud and you never know when the loud ones are going to hit
he’ll try to keep himself from getting too scared
but then he sees how midoriya’s s/o is when midoriya gets jumpy with the thunder
so sometimes he’ll exaggerate his shivers and jumps when you’re cuddling him during a storm so you’ll get even closer to him
then the warmth and weight of your body against him makes him blush
he’d be the most willing to go out into the rain with you
let’s face it, the real reason you’re dating him is that you’re both idiots
one time he decides to try to bend the lightning from the storm and just caused a huge explosion
thank god you were with him because he ended up short circuiting and would’ve been left out there alone
it took a lot of your energy to get him back home and you nearly collapsed once you had returned
he felt really bad after that and apologized profusely for putting you in danger
you also ended up falling ill after that so he made sure that you were well cared for
he brought you all your favorite snacks and things but made sure you were drinking water
and he got you a white noise machine that played heavy rain and thunderstorm sounds so that you would get adequate rest
even if he can’t exactly lightning bend, he still makes you just as happy as storms do
welcome back to bnha night! request some ideas..

5e Vex, the Gloomiest build (League of Legends)
(Artwork by Horace “Hozure” Hsu. Made for Riot Games.)
Writing this build in a dark room late at night, super tired and stuff... Stuck inside cause of this dumb virus... AFKing in TFT for a Prestige skin like a tryhard... It’s kinda aesthetic, ya know?
GOALS
Another person to kill... Shadow? Can you handle it? - You don’t need best friends: you’ve got your Shadow. He’s the only cool one, because he’s basically you.
Ugh. Can we get some rain clouds in here? - No one likes a debbie downer, but everyone loves a good scare!
Man, walking suuuucks - Nowadays even the anti-dash champion needs a resetting dash. “Do the thing, Shadow.”
RACE
I could make Vex a Harengon to justify her rabbit ears, but she doesn’t really do much “jumping.” That, and I didn’t buy Wild Beyond the Witchlight. So Halfling still works good enough for a yordle. Your Dexterity increases by 2, and while your movement speed goes down to 25 you have Halfling Nimbleness to move through people who are bigger than you. You’re also “Brave” for advantage against fears (when you hang around the Shadow Isles stuff really isn’t that scary) and of course have good ol’ yordle Lucky to reroll Nat 1s.
Halflings are normally pretty cheerful but Ghostwise Halflings are perfectly dark. You’d normally increase your Wisdom by 1 but I’d recommend increasing your Constitution instead. But I mean, it’s not a big deal if you take Wisdom instead. It is only +1. You also get Silent Speech to keep to team chat with 30 foot telepathy. I mean, they have to understand your languages but at least you don’t have to tell everyone what you’re talking about. And oh yeah you obviously speak Common and Halfling.
ABILITY SCORES
15; CHARISMA - Turns out when you don’t release any new yordles for (wait it’s been 5 years since Kled was released? Holy shit) people end up wanting them.
14; DEXTERITY - Just because you don’t like walking doesn’t mean you’re slow.
13; CONSTITUTION - Imagine dying like a normie.
12; WISDOM - Vex isn’t sad because she’s pessimistic. She’s just realistic.
10; INTELLIGENCE - You’re too cool for school. (And I needed everything else more.)
8; STRENGTH - Ughhh I don’t wanna lift heavy stuff! I’m tired...
BACKGROUND
I guess you’re technically a Haunted One, even if the black mist is the best thing that ever happened to you. You get proficiency in Arcana and Survival as well as two language of your choice to talk to your "allies.” (I guess one of them has to be exotic or whatever.) (I’d personally pick Sylvan as the language of yordles and whatever language the majority of your party knows as your second choice, but that’s just me.)
The thing that sucks about having a Heart of Darkness is that everyone keeps trying to help you, thinking that your sadness (and the living shadow on your back) is something to be fixed. I mean, at least you can get the NPC normies to help you, as long as you don’t spook ‘em. “No doctors! I told you: being sad makes me happy.”
(Artwork by @ToggleD0wnFall on Twitter.)
THE BUILD
or whatever...
LEVEL 1 - SORCERER 1
Starting as a Sorcerer for saving throws and stuff. Also proficiency in Intimidation and... Persuasion, I guess? Look, persuading people that you’re fine “no really” is a skill too.
I wonder what Sorcerous Origin we’ll pick... If only there was one based entirely on shadows and darkness... Oh hey Shadow Magic. As a Shadow Sorcerer you get Eyes of the Dark for 120 feet of Darkvision to see with your dumb Halfling eyes, and Strength of the Grave which will let Shadow take a hit for you. (As long as you make a good Charisma save.)
But of course the main appeal of a Sorcerer is the Spellcasting. You can learn 4 cantrips from the Sorcerer list and two level spells: For cantrips Mage Hand will let Shadow pick things up for you, Mind Sliver and Sword Burst will keep loud people off you both up close and from afar, and Prestidigitation will let you do all sorts of normie yordle magic. As for leveled spells Shield and Mage Armor are both kinda mandatory for some Personal Space.
LEVEL 2 - WARLOCK 1
What? Did you really think we wouldn’t get at least some support from adults? Work for that cool gloomy dude Viego and make a pack with The Undead. That’s because Undead are super dark and morbid and have a Form of Dread: as a bonus action you can turn on your Doom and Gloom for 1 minute. You get some temporary hit points, fear people when you hit them, and are immune to fears yourself. You can transform a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
You also get Pact Magic, which is different from normie Spellcasting because you get the cool stuff done with just a Short Rest. Anyways you can learn two cantrips from the Warlock list like Minor Illusion to have Shadow trick some normies and Eldritch Blast to Eldritch while you Blast. You can also grab some first level Warlock spells like Hex to mark people you don’t like, and Arms of Hadar if you really need your Personal Space.
LEVEL 3 - WARLOCK 2
Second level Warlocks get their Eldritch Invocations for extra stuff that you don’t have to put effort into. While Armor of Shadows does exist it’s honestly better for you to cast Mage Armor with a spell slot, so with that being said take Agonizing Blast to agonize while you blast and Eldritch Mind so you can keep your concentration around annoying people.
You can also learn another spell like Hellish Rebuke, because people just keep barging into your Personal Space!
LEVEL 4 - SORCERER 2
Now that you can agonize your blasts it’s time to go back to Sorcerer. Second level Sorcerers get a Font of Magic for Sorcery Points which currently don’t do much other than give you more spell slots. You can turn your Warlock slots into Sorcery points though, which is good because they come back on a Short Rest but the rest of your magic does not.
You can also cast another spell like Earth Tremor, to slow people down with Looming Darkness and sunder the land with your edginess.
LEVEL 5 - SORCERER 3
Third level Sorcerers finally get Metamagic! Empowered Spell will allow you to maximize your damage and retain your role as an artillery mage. Alternatively if you want to guarantee fears in your foes take Heightened Spell to give them disadvantage to resist Shadow’s influence.
If you want Shadow to stick around then Dust Devil will swirl around for quite awhile. Alternatively Shadow (Magic) also teaches you Darkness for free, and you can cast it with 2 Sorcery Points to see through it! Your friends can’t see through it, but you can team up with Shadow for some powerful combos when you can see them but they can’t see you!
(Artwork by @jpdiasarts on Twitter.)
LEVEL 6 - SORCERER 4
4th level Sorcerers get the first of many Ability Score Improvements, but I can’t take Fey Touched every time for Flash. That, and we won’t give into basic yordle society. So let’s get value out of our Halfling race with the Second Chance feat. Along with +1 to your Charisma you can also use your reaction to make an enemy you can see attacking you reroll their attack roll, potentially making them miss.
Don’t use this against an attack that you can Shield against, but if someone gets a really good roll you can use this to get your Personal Space back! You can only use this once per combat though (it comes back when you roll for initiative!) so make sure to use it when it matters to keep your spell slots in check.
Oh and you can also learn another spell, and another cantrip! For your cantrip Shocking Grasp will help you push people away if they get too close (folk tend to react poorly when zapped by a tazer!) As for leveled spells Web will keep foes from dashing around, and is also pretty flammable. Huhn; wonder if that’ll be useful.
LEVEL 7 - SORCERER 5
5th level Sorcerers get gifts from the Ruined Queen Tasha in the form of Magical Guidance. You can use a Sorcery point to reroll a d20 if needed, potentially squeezing a success out. Don’t use this all the time (even if Warlock slots means you’ll have plenty of Sorcery points to spare) but this can be very useful in an emergency!
You can also learn third level spells and hey: Fireball may be a normie spell, but it’s still pretty effective. It’s maybe a bit too flashy to be Looming Darkness but it’s a good source of AoE damage which isn’t as loud and annoying as Shatter.
LEVEL 8 - SORCERER 6
All this time being a Shadow Sorcerer and Shadow hasn’t even done anything for us! Well how about you go out there and get some work done, Shadow? For 3 Sorcery points you can summon a Hound of Ill Omen to target a foe within 120 feet of you.
Shadow is basically a Dire Wolf except he’s Medium, has temp HP equal to half your Sorcerer level, can move through stuff (but takes damage if he ends his turn in stuff), and automatically chases whoever you told him to go for. Shadow will appear 30 feet away from the person you told him to get, and will chase after him like I said. All he’ll really do is attack the target you told him to though; he won’t even opportunity attack unless it’s the person you told him to chase. But if Shadow’s near someone they have disadvantage on their saving throws, which is pretty cool. (Unfortunately it’s only against spells, not your Form of Dread.)
Speaking of saving throws: Slow is a really great way to keep normies from running around doing annoying stuff. And you don’t have to hit Shadow with it which is pretty cool.
(Artwork by @Lauriquess on Twitter.)
LEVEL 9 - WARLOCK 3
Third level Warlocks get to choose their Pact Boon: if you want a really small Shadow go for Pact of the Chain, and if you want your cool necklace go for Pact of the Talisman, but we’ll be going for Pact of the Tome because you’re mostly a spellcaster really. (And we definitely don’t have enough cantrips.)
You get a Book of Shadows (See? Books can be cool!) with three cantrips: take Thaumaturgy to be extra spooky, Vicious Mockery for some sick teenage burns, and Sapping Sting to make normies fall over when you fear them. Some might say that 10 total cantrips by level 9 is a bit overkill but look on the dark side: you’ve now got a cantrip for basically every type of saving throw in case you can’t hit with Eldritch Blast!
Honestly none of the Pact Boons are particularly important for Vex so I picked the one that made the most sense. Feel free to take something more practical since 10 cantrips is admittedly overkill.
Oh and you can learn more Warlock spells, so now it’s time to finally take Misty Step. For Flash!
LEVEL 10 - WARLOCK 4
4th level Warlocks get another Ability Score Improvement: getting more Charisma for better spellcasting is probably a good idea.
You can also learn another spell, and hey look another cantrip. For your cantrip even if more damage options are kinda overkill by this point Chill Touch inflicts Grievous Wounds, which might be useful. You can also grab another second level spell and Blindness / Deafness (which is on the Undead list) is far more useful than any of the other normie options you’d have at this level anyways.
LEVEL 11 - WARLOCK 5
5th level Warlocks get another Eldritch Invocation, and even if you’ve got a resetting dash you’re still a squishy mage. So grab Tomb of Levistus for Zhonya's Hourglass.
You can also grab third level Warlock spells now! Remember how I took Fireball and complained that it wasn’t a good replica of Looming Darkness? Well Hunger of Hadar takes your Concentration but it’s a lot edgier!
LEVEL 12 - WARLOCK 6
6th level Undead Warlocks have become Grave Touched by the mist, and can make mist of their own! Along with being able survive without eating, drinking, or breathing you can turn any of your damage into necrotic damage. If you’re in your Form of Dread however you can add one extra damage die to whatever you’re using to get people to buzz off, adding to that morbid and macabre aesthetic.
You can also add another spell and if you’re bored with Shadow being a wolf how about you make them a Summon Shadowspawn? Weaponize your Fury, Despair, or Fear (I’d honestly recommend Fury since it has good synergy with your Dreadful Aspect) and work together with Shadow to deal with all your annoying foes! I’d also suggest replacing Hellish Rebuke with Counterspell, because even if the former fits better the latter is way more useful.
(Artwork by Jennifer Wuestling. Made for Riot Games.)
LEVEL 13 - WARLOCK 7
7th level Warlocks can finally activate Shadow Surge. Relentless Hex lets you mark a foe with Hex and then dash to them. And technically you can move Hex around after the fact to reset your dashes! And while you’re at it you may as well grab Dimension Door for Summoner Teleport.
You could also upgrade Summon Shadowspawn to Summon Aberration if you so desire, but Summon Shadowspawn is more than strong enough and far more fun and thematic.
LEVEL 14 - WARLOCK 8
Another Ability Score Improvement. Yay. Cap off your Charisma for the best spellcasting you can get out of Shadow. You can also learn another spell, but we’re going to wait for...
LEVEL 15 - WARLOCK 9
9th level Warlocks get another Eldritch Invocation: even if it’s kinda ineffective Ascendant Step is still pretty useful to have Shadow carry you around. I mean yeah it’s slow but not that much slower than walking for you, and Shadow can lift you up in the air. “Shadow; carry me...”
You can also learn 5th level spells. If one guy’s being particularly annoying Negative Energy Flood can get them to shut up and work for you. Alternatively if you want more Personal Space Antilife Shell is on the Undead List and will make sure normies keep faaaaar away.
LEVEL 16 - WARLOCK 10
Are you ever so sick of everything that you just want to explode? Necrotic Husk has two benefits: for one you’re resistant to Necrotic damage, and immune while in your Form of Dread because being around Viego for so long means you’re used to his work.
But additionally when you are reduced to 0 hit points you can use your reaction to drop to 1 hit point instead and cause your body to explode! Each creature of your choice within 30 feet of you takes 2d10 + your warlock level in Necrotic damage. You do gain 1 level of exhaustion after using this, and after using it once you can’t do so again until you finish 1d4 long rests. So I’d perhaps use Strength of the Grave first unless you really need to lash out.
I hope you weren’t expecting more spells because you aren’t getting them from Warlock: just a cantrip. By this point we’ve honestly got far too many cantrips so I dunno maybe just grab Prestidigitation again and swap it out from Sorcerer when you get the chance.
(Artwork by @DukkoArt on Twitter.)
LEVEL 17 - SORCERER 7
Finally back to our yordle roots: 7th level Sorcerers get 4th level spells like Storm Sphere for a sphere of darkness and angst. But I mean the real benefit is that you get more Sorcery points let’s be real.
Oh and you can swap out Prestidigitation for Gust I guess. Spooky winds and stuff. Either this level or next level depending on your DM.
LEVEL 18 - SORCERER 8
Your last Ability Score Improvement... You’re gonna have to ask: what’s more important to me? More Metamagic, or more Eldritch Invocations? If Metamagic is to your liking take Metamagic Adept for Careful Spell and Distant Spell along with two more Sorcery points to use on them. If you like Eldritch Invocations though Eldritch Adept has a ton of options as a level 10 Warlock. I won’t tell you what invocation to take (they’re all great boosts but none of them shout out at me as something you should prioritize) as there are plenty of options to make your own Vex now that they’re all grown up.
I can at least tell you what spell to take: none of them! Wait until next level!
Oh and you can swap out Prestidigitation for Gust I guess.
LEVEL 19 - SORCERER 9
9th level Sorcerers can learn 5th level spells which means you’ve finally caught up to your Warlock slots. And look at that: the good wish Tasha gave you one last way to weaponize Shadow. Bigby’s Hand does a bunch of cool stuff and is pretty much the ultimate way to make Shadow crush some normies. (Most literally.) Alternatively if you want to borrow from Viego Enervation will let you heal from the mist and also do some damage. Great if you’re stuck in a corner with a bunch of annoying normies.
LEVEL 20 - SORCERER 10
Our final level is the 10th level of Sorcerer for one last spell, one last cantrip, and one last metamagic option! For your metamagic it’s honestly about time you take Quickened Spell to up your DPS. For your cantrip take Mold Earth to dig holes in the sand and brood. And as for your leveled spell? Honestly I just like Synaptic Static, and there isn’t much else I want anyways.
FINAL BUILD
PROS
We’re all doomed. But you’re more doomed - 5th level spells pack more than enough punch, and you’ve got plenty of them. Warlock slots will always be at your fingertips, and Sorcery points give you plenty of flexibility too!
I can feel it: someone’s happy over there! - Along with giving you a temporary hitpoint shield Form of Dread puts a nice bit of CC on all your abilities. Keep enemies scared and sad with tons of Doom and Gloom!
Ugh. Stop copying me Shadow! - Hounds of Ill Omen are cool. Summon Shadowspawn is also cool. Bigby’s Hand is especially cool. And hey: even your lower level Concentration spells like Hex? They’re pretty cool too.
CONS
Ughhhhhhhhhh this is gonna take foreeeever! - You’ve got limited fumes, even for a coffeelock. Form of Dread has limited uses and there’s only so much spell slot melting you can do to get your magic back.
I’m dancing... Happy? - You’ve got a really boring set of really normie skills... and if you’re playing Vex the way she’s meant to be played you’re probably not going to use any of them except for Intimidation.
Yup; the glass is half empty - Half your levels are Sorcerer levels, meaning you’re squishy. You’ve also got Mage Armor on which guess what: also means you’re squishy. People who hit teenagers sure are lame but it’s really not hard to Power Word Kill you.
But I guess you’re pretty cool overall. Shadow’s an alright partner and you can spread Ruination even without Viego. Trudge around and get people to frown for once. There’s nothing wrong with being sad, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting the world to be sad. But do try to at least be happy out of character, because we play games to have fun. I mean, who’d play a video game that just makes you depressed and angry?

Your Morrowind graphics look sooo beautiful! Do you have a list of the mods you used? I'd really appreciate it if you could share it!
Sure! I'd be happy to share my setup =)
My modlist is cobbled together from various modding guides, suggestions by friends who've played Morrowind, and my own personal preferences as I've played and come across things I felt like changing (like the pond scum lol!).
I tried to leave out most mods that had zero to do with Graphics/changes you can see in the world, and I also tried to keep my descriptions short, though if you were only asking for a simple load order then I apologize, oops!
The Engine
MGE XE (this is absolutely vital for those distant views/awesome light and water shaders and other features!)
Morrowind Code Patch (needed for bump/reflection maps to look right!)
Meshes/Textures/Overhauls
Morrowind Optimization Patch (improves performance/fixes some mesh errors!)
Patch for Purists (squashes so many bugs while avoiding unnecessary changes!)
Intelligent Textures (full AI upscaled/hand-edited texture pack of the game, excellent as a base if you plan to add on more targeted replacers later!)
Enhanced Water Shader for MGE XE--OR--Krokantor's Enhanced Water Shader Updated: (depends on which version of MGE XE you're using; if 0.13.0 you'll want the Updated version, and if earlier you need the older one. 3 shades of water to choose from; improved caustics, foam, ripples, underwater effects; and no more weird immersion-breaking moment when you would previously tilt the camera just beneath the surface and it would suddenly be perfectly clear. Absolutely gorgeous water!)
Animation Compilation-Hand to Hand Improved Without Almalexia Spellcasting (idk if this counts, but it does fix the Visual of that weird vanilla running animation!)
Better Bodies and Westly's Pluginless Replacer (a friend told me to get Robert's bodies, but BB is also very good and seems to be the most widely used + many mods need it, like Julan!)
Pluginless Khajiit Head pack (prettier kitties!)
Improved Argonians (better looking lizard-friends!)
Children of Morrowind (adds realism by having kids running around your towns!)
Julan, Ashlander Companion [v3.0 at bottom of this page] (ok not a graphics mod, but will add much immersion to your game, so I will shill for him anyway!)
Vibrant Morrowind 3.0/4.0 (this one I actually don't have installed yet, but I love the way Vivec looks in the screenshots!)
abot Water Life (adds aquatic creatures/things like algae and coral to make Morrowind's waters more alive!)
Vurt's Corals (found on Vurt's Groundcover page; adds gorgeous corals and new water plants!)
Vurt's Ashlands Overhaul (can choose between gnarly trees or vanilla-style!)
Vurt's Groundcover (gorgeous animated grass and vegetation that differs for each region!)
Vurt's Solstheim Tree Replacer II (more realistic trees and snowy pines!)

Tales of Woe - Scenes from S1
yikes, summer has come and life is hectic! Still trying to make this happen but 1.17 is going to get skipped. I couldn’t resist 1.16 though, poor Kurt getting gassed just after having his jugular sliced open...
1.16
Weller was already spewing white foam by the time Jane made it back with the antidote; her heart pounding with a potent mixture of fear and adrenaline, along with a drop of deadly nerve agent. Knowing that every second counted, she immediately jabbed the needle into his thigh and injected him with the life-saving drug.
Yet even after she'd administered the atropine, Kurt was still doubled over and clearly struggling. And all Jane could do was wrap her arms around him and watch him continue to gag and spit up a froth of fluids, all the while praying that she hadn't been too late. But she also wasn't feeling all that great herself, even though Weller had given her his shot almost immediately. And he'd been exposed for at least twice as long, because he was a stubborn, self-sacrificing idiot.
Jane forced herself to take slower breaths, even though anxiety was starting to crawl up her spine. Kurt was shaking now, his body tremoring in her arms and she felt completely helpless. She'd done all that she could by getting him the drug but kept worrying that it had taken too long and that Weller would suffer permanent damage because he'd given her his dose. It had been such a stupid thing to do, with his own life equally at risk.
She was angry at him for doing it. And yet she couldn't help loving him for it too.
Jane held him as closely as possible, one arm behind him and the other in front. Weller was now heaving and spitting out an endless stream of drool, while also blinking away tears and trying to catch his breath. Jane could feel him start to panic as his lungs kept pulling for air but apparently not getting enough for his system to catch up.
Instantly her own anxiety shot up too, realizing that Kurt was starting to really struggle for oxygen. For a second her heart hammered in her ears, making everything around her turn into a red haze of distress. But Jane pushed back on the tide, somehow anchoring herself to the knowledge that she had to stay with it enough to take care of Weller.
"Hey Kurt," she murmured against his ear.
"You need to slow your breathing down okay?"
For a moment he continued to gasp, and she could feel his chest heaving in her arms. Jane felt her own panic threaten again, as she flashed back to him nearly bleeding out just days ago. That had also been her fault, and far too close a call.
This time though, it seemed more a matter of talking him through it and less a frenzy of trying to physically hold his blood in his body. So Jane shoved aside her anxiety once more and mentally scolded herself. It wasn't the time to fall into the past and lose it. She needed to get some air into him before he passed out.
Weller was still panting, seemingly unable to get control of his lungs. But he was actually breathing okay, just too fast. What he needed was a respiratory metronome, something to help him time out his breaths.
"Here," she said, shuffling to sit next to him.
Jane kept one hand over his shoulders and used her other to grab his wrist and bring his hand up to her sternum. She remembered how much the gesture had calmed her that day she'd nearly lost herself in the past, the way it had helped her feel steadier. She could only hope it would have the same effect on Weller now.
Kurt looked a little surprised at her action but didn't resist at all. Then, when his hand was settled over her heart, Jane started to take long, deliberate breaths.
"Feel that?" she asked.
Weller nodded.
"In and out, with me okay?"
Again, Kurt nodded and she could feel him start to try and breathe with her. It took a few cycles to find an even tempo that he could easily maintain but once Jane found the right pace, Weller managed to match her rhythm and stop gasping.
He was still shaky and sweaty but at least there was less panic in his eyes as he regained control of his breathing. Jane could feel her own heart rate settle as well, when it became clear that Weller was becoming steadier by the moment.
By the time she heard the ambulance sirens approaching, he wasn't shaking at all anymore. Yet Jane couldn't stop holding him to her tightly, even as the paramedics came running up to assess them both.
"Ma'am, you were exposed to a nerve agent. We're going to have to check you out too."
She felt irrationally frantic, unable to let go. Until a familiar hand slipped over her own, and raised it off his chest.
"'I'm okay," Weller wheezed. "Go."
So she finally unwrapped herself from her protective position around him, but couldn't help looking back once or twice anyways. It helped to see that the EMT was giving Kurt oxygen, and his colour was improving already.
Still, Jane was impatient as her own EMT looked her over and assessed her vitals. Immediately after she was cleared, she headed back to check on Weller. Even though she knew it wasn't rational, she just needed to double check that he was okay.
Kurt was sitting on the back of the open ambulance, still breathing from the oxygen tank but otherwise looking fine. Jane exhaled a lungful of worry before approaching him and felt her entire body relax once she realized he really was okay.
"Hey, you okay?" she asked.
"Fine," he replied, looking up at her.
"I'm sore from where you stabbed me."
If that was his biggest complaint, then they'd both gotten off easy.
"Sorry, next time I'll just let your internal organs melt," she deadpanned, surprised at how easily the jibe rolled off her tongue.
Weller grinned and the last of her fear finally faded away. They'd survived yet another close call. Now she had to get ready for the next.
###
She fell from the sky, after a rain of glass.
Even as it was happening, Weller couldn't quite believe his eyes. All of his focus flew off of the suspect in front of him and glued itself to the black clad figure that had just dropped from the floor above; desperate to make sure that she was okay.
Of course Jane was fine. By the time he'd fully registered what had happened, she'd already taken the impact of the jump by rolling out of it gracefully and disarmed the suspect as well. So all Kurt could do was tell his heart to stop hammering and arrest the other guy, now that she was safe and on the ground.
Yet even after both suspects were in cuffs, he couldn't stop thinking about it; the shards of glass, her falling body.
Was it wrong that he was so turned on?
Weller told himself to settle down and tried to put away the feelings surging within him. Yet a heady mix of adoration and adrenaline still surged through him as he watched Jane efficiently secure her suspect, then stand up and look around.
Their eyes met instantly, mainly because he hadn't stopped staring at her since she'd jumped. And it wasn't even the first time that day she'd nearly given him a heart attack by resolving a deadly situation in her own drastic manner. Disarming the General and his dead-man's switch had already been dangerous enough. But leaping from the second floor to stop a man toting sarin gas was still an incredible encore.
She was constantly doing things he couldn't imagine anyone else even considering, much less attempting. Which drove him crazy in every way.
Part of him wanted to exchange his latent fear for anger and yell at her for taking chances with her own safety. But mostly he was just in complete awe of her, and wanted to hold on as tightly as he could so he didn't lose her to some future danger.
Weller forced himself to stay in position, only because he didn't trust himself yet. His instinct to holler at her hadn't abated at all, nor had his desire to wrap his arms around her. So it was best to hold back, until he was more in control of his emotions.
But the more he stared at her, the weaker he seemed to become.
If only…
No, shut down that thought, Weller told himself sternly.
He was doing his best to give the second go around with Allie a better effort than the first. It wasn't fair to her if he let his head go where it wanted to.
Yet it was impossible to not compare the difference in the way they made him feel.
It had been far too obvious to him that morning when they'd all been in the same room together. Of course it had been at an inopportune moment, just after giving Jane something extremely sentimental. And his heart had felt so full at the giving… and so tentative at the receiving, even though it was nice that Allie brought him breakfast. He wondered if his "this is a nice surprise" had sounded as forced as he heard it in his head.
Kurt only realized that he'd been caught staring when he was knocked out of his memory with a slightly disgruntled "what?"
When his brain finally caught up with the situation, he found that Jane was giving him a look somewhere between annoyed and concerned. And all he could do was shake his head and tell her a half truth.
"I can't stop thinking about you jumping," he said.
Jane shrugged, completely nonchalantly of course.
"It was the only way," she replied.
"It was too risky," he argued, even though she'd already proven him wrong.
"No riskier than giving me your antidote," she retorted.
Weller frowned. He hadn't seen that coming. That situation was long over already; and of course he'd given her his dose, it hadn't even been a question. He hadn't even realized she was annoyed with him for doing it.
"That's not what we're talking about," he said, trying to sound stern.
"It is now."
She was infuriating and invigorating and everything in between. Even though they were arguing he could barely hold back a smile.
Jane looked genuinely pissed off, which was a surprise to him. The sarin incident had been barely a risk, he'd known that both Reade and Zapata were nearby with their doses.
"That was my choice," he said. "I knew you'd figure something out."
"Yeah well, I'm still mad about it."
This time he let his grin slip through, wondering how his attempt to reprimand her for doing something so dangerous had ended up in her telling him off for something far less perilous.
Normally Weller would be irritated by being questioned about his actions, and doubly annoyed about being worried after. He was in charge of the team, it was his job to worry about them, not the other way around.
But with Jane, well, he liked it. Even though it was so unfamiliar, there was little doubt. He got a little tingle down his spine every time she showed concern for him.
Since when did he ever feel that way about anyone?
Unbidden, Weller's mind flashed back to that morning in the locker room and suddenly, completely incongruously, he wanted to see her wear the necklace.
Stop it, he told himself.
You're in the middle of a crime scene. And you have a date with Allie.
He managed to swallow back his surge of desire and forced his gaze away from Jane, in an attempt to refocus his attention. But even after he walked away to secure the rest of the scene, his eyes kept stealing their way in her direction. And each time he saw her leap onto the scene out of nowhere, much in the same way she'd fallen into his heart.

Seems we get a brief breather between parts 1 and 2 of 5.5, so Aeryn's snagging her man so they can take care of one another post infiltration and combat. Just two adventurers cleaning up together. The rating actually remains in "older T" levels. You'll see why.
Below the cut on Tumblr for those who prefer this medium: ----
After the hearty dinner their colleagues set out, the senior Scions dispersed. Y’shtola, Urianger, and G’raha vanished to the library to discuss the Hydaelyn theories. Tataru offered to show Estinien his new room with the twins opting to tag along, for better or worse. Aeryn snagged Thancred’s coat before he could leave the dining area. He raised a brow and glanced about as she tugged gently, encouraging him to follow her. No one seemed to pay them much mind, so he did not fight being drawn along.
“Have a plan?” Thancred asked as they headed down the hall leading to the various senior Scions’ rooms.
Aeryn shrugged. “Nothing specific. Mostly I’ve missed you and we seem to have a moment.”
He drew her into an embrace, backwards against his chest. They both still smelled of levin-burnt sand and grimy sweat, tinged with the coppery tang of blood. But her viola hairpiece was also mingled in, familiar and comforting, and he let out a deep sigh he felt he’d been holding for weeks. “I’ve missed you as well.” He leaned closer to her ear to murmur, “I’ve perhaps been thinking of the various ways I intend to show just how much I’ve missed you once we’ve cleaned up.”
She giggled and he could see her expected blush as she leaned into the embrace before stepping away. “Sounds as if you think to get dirty again .”
He grinned. “It’s certainly been a thought, if you’re amenable.” Thancred paused as they came to her door. “I need to stow my gear and check on a certain rodent, lest we be interrupted by squeaky indignation later.”
“Come in when you’ve cleaned up and seen to your other girlfriend,” she teased, giving him a wink before turning away.
“On second thought,” he said, overwhelmed by the idea of Aeryn vanishing behind the door. “I’ll risk nutkin wrath and come in now.”
“You know you’re asking for it,” Aeryn said, keeping her door open for him.
Thancred shrugged, propping his gunblade on the stand by the entrance as he stepped inside. “We played and I lavished all sorts of affection on the little tyrant when Urianger and I were here naught but two days ago, it’ll be fine.” Maybe. His pet had been rather clingy since Thancred had awoken to his body after his time on the First.
Thoughts of the nutkin scattered as soon as the door locked, allowing them to fall against each other, Aeryn’s hands gripping his lapels, his hands in her hair and on the small of her back, pulling them into a long kiss and gods he had been needing that. They had had no time to themselves, not even a brief stolen moment, since his return from Garlemald. The closest they had come was leaning on each other for a brief nap on the airship returning from Paglth’an to Ul’dah.
But now here she was; solid, warm, soft in all the right places, and as tense as she normally was after such adventures—and when worried for a friend. They broke the kiss, both sighing with content as their foreheads rested against each other.
“You’re tense,” she murmured, pushing his coat off.
“Was about to say the same of you.” He let her remove it to hang by the doorframe. It needed a good wash and repairs after fighting through Paglth’an, not to mention a few weeks scouting in Garlemald; there hadn’t been time for proper maintenance the brief times he had returned to the Stones over the last few days. He dropped his gloves behind her so he could slide his palms over her form until he found the buttons and fastens for her own coat, hanging it next to his once he had it off her.
Aeryn started unhooking his belts and harnesses. He thought of protesting, but the weight of his gear was suddenly noticeable as his ammunition, daggers, the holster he kept healing potions and unguents, and various other pouches of practical supplies, were hung on hooks or placed on the nearby desk.
Thancred fought the urge to lean on the wall to turn to her, doing the same with her sword belt, supply pouches, the tie she wore with that coat. He was about to unbutton her shirt, but she was unhooking his armor, and he helped remove his chest piece, feeling lighter—and weary and aching, now that it wasn’t holding him up.
“You’ve a lot of bruising,” Aeryn said, already working on removing his undershirt as she frowned, noting every wince and flinch he made as her fingers traced over him.
“Well, I was holding off magitek and dragons.” He tried to make it sound light, but he thought he sounded more snippy due to his tiredness. He forced his tone to sound gentler. “It’s after effects, really; Urianger saw to the worst of it already.”
Aeryn muttered the familiar incantation, the electric taste of wintry pine and icy mountain lakes accompanying her spell. The aching faded further, his remaining minor injuries progressing to a nearly healed stage. It was an improvement, and he told her so before kissing her again. His hands took advantage of the distraction to remove her blouse, watching her wince and flinch now as Thancred checked over her shoulders and arms, across her back and midsection, frowning at her cuts and bruises in turn. He tried reminding himself that some had been unavoidable, even with him standing between her and their enemies.
“Would that I could return the favor.” He bit down on the old frustration as she cast for herself under his gaze.
“It’s all ri—ight!” Aeryn yelped as he picked her up and turned to deposit her on her nearby desk, then knelt.
“Allow me to help with this instead,” Thancred said, finding the hidden fasteners on her tall boots before pulling them off. She sighed and flexed her toes, socks sweat-stained, perhaps blood stained too, given some of the discoloration. He pulled off her socks and began massaging her left foot, grinning as she released a small relieved moan and slumped a bit. All the flipping around she did couldn’t have been easy on her long, perfect legs, he often thought, working his way from her toes to her calf before moving on to her right foot.
“You’ll have to let me do the same for you. I know those greaves are heavy.”
“I’m fine,” he said automatically, knowing it was pointless to argue. Honestly, he was looking forward to it. He left a kiss just below her knee before he stood with a wince.
Aeryn slid off the desk, a hand on his chest, herding him to sit next to make good on that promise. Thancred sighed and allowed it, feeling better with his boots and socks off and grumbling relief as she massaged his limbs, checking his feet as he had hers.
“I could fall asleep like this,” he murmured. She finished her work and kissed the tip of his nose.
“Not before you get a bath,” Aeryn admonished. “Or shower, if you prefer; the reservoir’s heated and ready to go either way.”
“First things first.” Thancred stretched as he stood. He gestured at the vanity in her wash area. “Sit and pass me your hairbrush.”
Over the next several minutes he carefully, section by section, brushed out her fine locks, removing bands and pins and undoing the braids. Why she put it in such a complicated style was beyond him—though he had to admit it stayed more or less in place, and she seemed able to style it swiftly. Aeryn meanwhile enjoyed the attention, only hissing and flinching the few times he hit an unavoidable snag. Smoothed out, her hair fell past her shoulder blades. He drew his fingers through the black strands for the sheer pleasure of it.
“Want to wash it too?” She half-joked.
“Would be my pleasure. We have to finish getting you undressed first, though.”
“As if you’ve ever had problems with that,” Aeryn teased—even as he undid her brassiere.
“No idea what you mean,” Thancred said, leaving a kiss on the round of her shoulder while his fingers danced down her sides and then front to undo her pants.
Once they were both divested of their remaining clothing, he took her hand like a gentleman and helped her step into the tub. She fiddled with the levers on the shower head, making sure the water wasn’t too hot when it poured forth, rinsing away the grime and grit. They took turns washing each others’ hair and scrubbing backs and limbs. After the magical healing, there were still bruises on them both, but they looked days old instead of—gods, was it truly the same day? The sun had risen over the plains after all night fighting, then returning to Ul’dah, and finally home where it was evening again.
It had been a long handful of days.
Aeryn “mrf’d” as he rubbed her shoulders and back, the soap washed off but much of her tension remaining. He didn’t realize he was just as bad until she did the same for him, scrubbing his neck, shoulders, and back, continuing to massage as the warm water rained down. He forced himself to relax, or tried to at least. The temptation to fill the tub and lounge together was strong, but Thancred feared in their weary states they might fall asleep. Not that that would be a problem for Aeryn, given the Kojin blessing. He really ought to look into that for himself; it could be extremely useful.
They shut off the shower just as the crystal reservoir was running out and the water started to chill. Aeryn was quicker, snagging the biggest of the towels—which she wrapped around him, rubbing vigorously. “Gotcha.”
“My only complaint is you are the one dripping everywhere,” Thancred said, grabbing another towel. “All that hair first, then the rest of you.” He wrapped up her hair as she tucked his towel around his waist like a makeshift skirt, forcing him to find a third towel to wrap her in. It also put him in the perfect position to scoop her up, eliciting another surprised sound and giggle.
“I can walk, you know,” Aeryn said, nuzzling his neck. “And I know you’re tired.”
“Not too tired to spoil you what little you allow.” He carried her across the room and around the partition to her bed. He set her among the many pillows and blankets she kept there, pulling away the towels and dropping them to the side to be worried about later as he settled in beside her.
“Shouldn’t we be under the covers?” She feigned innocence as his hands roamed over her body. “And turn off the lights?”
“This would be part of the ‘get dirty again’ plan from earlier.”
“Ah, right; thought you’d forgotten.”
“As if I could.” Thancred denied further rejoinders with another kiss, this one hungrier than the others. Aeryn responded with an equal fervor, pressing closer to him with a shiver as his fingers found sensitive spots along her spine and sides.
He was enjoying her quiet little noises and how she writhed, and he nearly had her to where she would make those sweet, whimpery begging sounds as he prolonged their mutual pleasure, when Aeryn stilled, blinking past him. “...Thancred…”
He heard the scrabbling and had barely enough time to brace himself before four tiny sharp-clawed feet landed on his upper back accompanied by angry chittering, and he wondered how such a small creature could knock the wind out of him like that.
Aeryn was no help, the traitor, laughing while the nutkin continued its scolding. “I warned you!” she got out between giggles.
“How in the seven hells did it even get in here, I know I locked that door,” Thancred growled, wrangling the beast off his back, though it refused to be held, scrambling over his arms, chest, and shoulders, until Aeryn cooed and clicked for it.
“You’re the infiltration expert, I’m sure you’ll figure it out eventually,” she said as the nutkin bounced over to her, still chittering indignantly but accepting a cuddle and pets.
“Argh,” was Thancred’s only response, dropping on the mattress, arms splayed. A moment later there was another sharp weight on his chest and more chattering, this less angry and more inquisitive and needy. He scritched the nutkin, begrudgingly pleased with how it chirred and nuzzled him. “One would think you neglected entirely, to be so demanding,” he admonished. He went unheeded beyond a fluffy tail bomfed against his ribs a few times in response to his voice.
Aeryn giggled again and settled alongside him, adding her own tribute pets. “You weren’t kidding earlier when you called this critter a tyrant.”
“Perhaps if fed it’ll allow us to return to our own business,” he grumbled.
“There’s a tin container in the cabinet on my desk for such occasions, since we spent plenty of time together while you were gone. You could get the lights while you’re at it.”
Thancred sighed theatrically, eliciting another round of giggles from Aeryn. He sat up with one hand cupped under the nutkin, who chattered and scrabbled up his arm to his shoulder as he crossed the room, its nails prickling Thancred’s bare skin.
There was, in fact, a tin and food and water dishes in the right-hand cabinet in the desk, the nutkin bounding in gleeful expectation upon the oak surface. “You know what you’re after, little fiend,” Thancred said, adding a few treats to hopefully keep his pet occupied and too full to bounce around much more. He brushed his hand over the soft grey fur while the nutkin dug in, chirring with content as it ate. “Lesson learned; see to you first always. Now no more interruptions, hear me?”
The nutkin paid no further attention, focused on its dinner and the snacks for storing in one of its many stashes around the Rising Stones. There was probably at least one here in Aeryn’s chamber.
Thancred left his fuzzy companion on the desk as he turned out the lights, grabbing extra water glasses while he was up, the room familiar enough that once his vision adjusted it was no trouble to cross the darkened space.
Aeryn had slid under the sheets in the meantime and was starting to doze off by the time he set the water on the nightstand and laid beside her. “Sleepy?” He tried very hard not to be too disappointed; it had been a long, hard few days, and honestly sleeping in her bed and being used as her pillow was itself a heavenly feeling he had missed over the past few weeks, and all else could wait until they were better rested in the morning…
The placement of her hand scattered those thoughts. “A bit, after everything,” she said. “But I’m certain you can wake me up again. We had a plan, remember?”
“Indeed,” he said, pulling her close once more. With any luck the nutkin was finally satisfied, as it hadn’t been the only one missing Thancred.

We have known about the vampires in this town for a long time now.
Our whole way of living is sort of built around it, actually. The whole water supply is holy water – the water in our taps, in our pools, in our fire hydrants. I've always thought if I had to kill a vampire I'd want to do it with a fire hydrant. You have to think about these things, you know. They teach you in school: wear a cross, carry a stake, hang garlic over your door. Never invite someone into your home unless you are certain you can trust them. And for God's sake, don't go walking alone after dark without some kind of weapon handy.
Things happen, of course. Things are always happening. People will just quietly disappear – most of the time the bodies are never recovered – and although it can't technically be said for certain just what happened, everyone knows. And then they talk. In hushed voices, in places where the family of the deceased – sorry, the "missing, presumed dead" – can't hear them, they talk. She must have done something wrong, they whisper. If she had just worn a cross like she was supposed to, if she had just stayed inside after dark, this would never have happened. Stupid girl – this was always bound to happen to her.
We all grew up watching those same vampire movies as everyone else. Dracula, Nosferatu, even Twilight. Let me tell you something: vampires don't sparkle. There is no sure way to identify a vampire until it's too late. Until there's no time to reach for that stake that you always keep in your purse, that if you could just get to it, maybe you could save yourself, fuck, where is it, where is your purse – there's no time for that. You're already dead.
Although I grew up knowing about the vampires, constantly hearing warnings and rules and stories, I didn't see one (not knowingly, at least) until I was twenty. At this point, although I knew theoretically that I could be attacked on any given day and it was important to be prepared, subconsciously I had begun to believe that it was never going to happen to me. I'd never so much as glimpsed a vampire in two decades, and everyone just droned about them constantly. Surely, if it were going to happen, it would have happened by now.
So, as I cooked a romantic dinner for myself and my boyfriend of three months, the threat of vampires seemed as distant as the possibility of an anvil falling out of the sky and crushing me to death. I was gearing myself up to tell him I loved him for the first time; I was not a romantic person by nature, but things had been going really well so far, so I wanted to make an effort. That effort also included making coq au vin and, in the interest of staying as kissable as possible, omitting the two cloves of garlic which the recipe called for.
That particular evening was one of the darkest and rainiest I had seen in some time, so when my boyfriend showed up twenty minutes late and apologizing profusely, I just told him not to worry, and ushered him in out of the rain.
"Why don't you take a shower while I get dinner on the table?" I suggested. "I can give you a pair of sweatpants and a t shirt." I wasn't really sure my clothes would fit him, but he was soaking and shivering, and he took me up on my offer right away. At worst, I got to see him in a too-tight shirt, right?
I gave him the biggest t shirt and sweatpants I owned, and I set about pouring wine and dishing up soup. In the interest of both warmth and atmosphere, I dug out just about every candle I owned – which, to be fair, was only a handful – and set them on the coffee table, where we could admire them without the smell mingling with the scent of the food. By the time everything was ready, he was back, wearing my sweats and shirt. They fit him better than I would have guessed, but he was still clearly uncomfortable, frowning and tugging at the shirt hem to stop it from riding up. It wasn't exactly the start I had pictured to our perfect romantic night, but hey, if something had to go wrong, this didn't seem so bad, right?
"You look cute." I said, grabbing his hand away from his hem and squeezing it in both of mine. "Come on, Griff, let's just have some dinner."
Griff gave me what might have been a forced smile, and sat down. "Thanks for making this."
"Happy to." I smiled back and took my seat across from him. I decided to wait until his mood improved a little before I sprang the whole "I love you" thing on him. I didn't want to freak him out.
We ate mostly in silence, and I regretted not thinking of a romantic soundtrack to put on. By the time we finished, I was desperate for some kind of noise – or just something to take the sullen expression off of Griff's face – so I suggested we watch a movie. We settled on The Hangover; again, not exactly how I had hoped the evening would go, but whatever made Griff happy.
It didn't take long for his attention to wander away from watching the movie and towards kissing me, which was all fine as far as I was concerned. Good thing I'd left out that garlic, right? I closed my eyes and leaned into the kiss, trying to parse whether this was the right moment to tell him. Before I could decide, however, he suddenly sprang away from me with a gasp.
When I opened my eyes, it was obvious what had happened, but my brain refused to register it. That burn mark in the shape of a cross had been there before I leaned towards him, hadn't it? It wasn't from my cross, the one I always wore around my neck, was it? It wasn't from any cross, of course not, my eyes were playing tricks on me.
I wish I hadn't wasted precious seconds processing all of this. Maybe I could have done something, said something, at least moved, before he was tearing the cross off of my neck with another pained yelp and leaning back over me. The jig was up now, and it was clear that unlike me, he wasn't wasting any time.
I wish also that I could say I survived through some great, heroic moment, but that's not what happened. I just sat there, shellshocked, until his mouth reached my neck and he began to bite – and then my body seemed to act of its own volition, thrusting him away from me with both hands. This caught him off guard, and he fell backwards, landing directly on top of every candle I owned. His shirt – my shirt – caught fire, and he dashed out the door into the rain.
At the very least, I can say that I made the conscious decision to lock the door, and then barricade it with a table. That's about all I managed to do before collapsing on the couch, back into the same spot I had been just minutes beforehand, and burst into tears. I didn't even bother trying to stop the blood leeching from my neck; I just cried until at some point I eventually fell asleep.
They taught us so much about preventing vampire attacks that it never even occurred to me before that moment that I had never been taught what to do if one did take place. Maybe it was assumed that if you got attacked by a vampire, you weren't surviving. Still, that seemed to nullify the point of carrying stakes and wearing crosses and blessing the water and whatnot. Maybe it was because everyone in this town seemed to believe that if you got attacked by a vampire, it was your fault – if you were smart, you wouldn't be out after dark in the first place, now would you?
Except I wasn't out after dark. I was wearing a cross. I survived. And now I had to continue surviving with no idea how to proceed. I couldn't ask anyone, either – even if they didn't lecture me to my face, surely they would whisper about me behind my back. Stupid girl, didn't even realize her own boyfriend was a vampire. What was she doing, inviting him into the house, when he clearly wasn't trustworthy? She should have known better.
For days, I stayed in my apartment, afraid to go out. I showered, with holy water, of course – except, weeks later, it dawned on me that Griff should have been hurt by the holy water. So, what was the truth? Was holy water not really an effective weapon against vampires, as we had always been taught, or was the water we had always been told was holy not really holy at all?
I did the best to cover the wound on my neck with makeup and collared shirts. There was no one there to see it, but I couldn't bear to look at it, and when it wasn't covered, I couldn't stop. I'd just stand in front of the mirror and stare at my neck, thinking of everything I should have done differently. Still, I was alive, wasn't I?
Wasn't I?
The first time I went out, it was to gather supplies: more stakes, more crosses, more garlic. Matches, bottles, spirits, and rags. Knives, too, although I didn't know if they would help or not. I wasn't really sure what I knew anymore.
The second time I went out, it was to hunt. No more being shocked, no more being attacked in my own home. I was taking the fight to them. After all, what was the point in trying to stay somewhere safe if nowhere was safe? What was the point in following the rules if they weren't going to protect me?
The vampires in this town have known about us for a long time now. What started as a solo effort has now grown into a small movement, which I'm proud to say consists of several people whom I saved from vampires. People who, like me, had no instructions on how to proceed – except for the ones that I gave them.
Of course, they've had time to prepare now. They protect their hearts more carefully, they don't reveal that they're vampires until they're alone with a victim, they even carry what I assume is non-holy water to put out any fires we might start. Often, our efforts feel futile; sometimes I'll go hunting several times and not come across anyone I can say for certain is a vampire. It's hard to know for sure if I'm making the right call. Sometimes it feels as if I am making no difference at all, as if I am still sitting on the couch doing nothing.
Still, things happen.

I'm going to talk about sleep hygiene for a minute here, I've made a new post bc the other one was getting a bit long and I've the shower fam that I know struggle with sleep; if I've missed anyone please @ them because this is one of those things that no one tells you about but is actually a really important life skill.
So what is sleep hygiene? Sleep hygiene is the term for all the little habits that can help you get have a good sleep. It mostly revolves around forming a pattern that will get your brain to think "okay, time to switch off". One of the first things you need to do is try to stop doing anything in your bedroom that isn't sleeping. Now I know if you live in shared accommodation/with your parents that's pretty much impossible but you can do is avoid watching TV, using tablets/phones/laptops, etc. in bed. What you're trying to do here is whenever you get into bed is get your brain to think "ah, time to switch off.
In a similar vain, it helps to build up a routine for bed. For example, brush your teeth, comb your hair, go to the toilet and change into your pyjamas is a good basic routine. I also include taking my meds, a hot drink and meditation (although I appreciate that a lot of people struggle with that and that's fine). It's just a matter of finding what works for you and again it's about getting your brain to understand that it needs to turn off now. It's also a good way of ensuring that you're taking your meds.
So you've got your routine but there's some other stuff to remember. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and to leave enough time to get enough sleep. Teens need about 8 - 10 hours in 24 and adults need about 6 - 9 but it varies from person to person. You can figure how much you need by getting as much sleep as you need (so no alarms, again easier said than done) for a week and timing how much you sleep.
On top of this you want to avoid using screens for about an hour before bed as the bright light makes your brain think it's day time. Similar, you want your room to be dark and quiet so you don't get disturbed during the night. If, like me, you do all your sleeping during the day then a set of blackout blinds and any kind of white noise generator is a life saver. I like rain noise but again, whatever works for you. You want to try and get your bedroom temperature to your own ideal and if you have/suspect you have ADHD then lowering the temperature can help. Daily exercise can also help but not in the run up to bed (it raises your heart rate and increase adrenaline).
You also want to try to avoid caffeine after 6 hours before bed; tea's not too bad, especially if you've built up a tolerance for it, but coffee and and energy drinks are a big no no. Heavy drinking will disrupt sleep (yes it it can help fall asleep but as it wears off it disrupts your sleep) and so does smoking. You also want to avoid large/heavy meals before as digestion and if you lie awake for 30 minutes it's best just to get up for a while and try again in a bit. Lying awake for hours makes it much harder to fall asleep.
Finally I'm just going to talk quickly about circadian rhythms but I'm not going into huge detail because it there's a lot information about it that's not really relevant to this topic. In essence it's a 24 hour cycle that dictates when your body wants to go to sleep and when it wants to be active. It is effected by light levels +which is why you need your bedroom to be dark when you're trying to sleep) and varies from person to person. That's why some people find early mornings extremely difficult and others can stay up late. As long as you're getting enough sleep, it's not so important where it falls but if you have to be up early it's worth doing some research into changing your rythem.
It's also worth remembering that if your disturbed sleep goes on for a long time it could be clinical insomnia and a sign that something else is going on. There's nothing wrong with speaking to a doctor if you're in a position to.
It's important to remember that these are habits that take time to form and take time to start working. Please don't beat yourself up if you mess it up at first or you don't see an immediate improvement; self-care is a skill and it takes time, practice and a lot of patience to develop. Take it from someone who's been there; it's something that I've been working on for nearly 5 years now and I've still got progress to make but I swear it's worth it in the end.
Feel free to tag anyone you think would benefit from seeing this and to ask questions if you have them (either on this post or dm/ask is fine.

Lucifer Morningstar x Suicidal!Reader
Word count: 1391
WARNINGS: suicidal behavior, heights, happy(ish) ending though
If you are having suicidal thoughts or considering hurting yourself, please reach out to somebody or at least call a hotline. You are loved.
It was a long walk up to the top of the building. Twenty-three floors, to be exact. I decided against the elevator for several reasons; one, interacting with other people wasn't really my forte, especially at the moment. Two, I mean, come on.. who wants to be trapped in a little metal box? And three, on top of it all, they play that horrendous music that drives anybody who has to go up or down more then a few floors absolutely crazy.
Anyways, I made it up to the roof of the building (the home of one of LA's many all-powerful corporations, to be honest I don't remember its name anymore. That is, if I ever bothered to learn it in the first place.) And if there had been any doubt in my mind about what I was about to do it was far gone now, if only because there is no way in hell I was walking back down those twenty-three flights of stairs.
Hell. I wonder if I'll go there, when this was all over. I sure hope not, but I might deserve it. I've never been the religious or faithful type, but a recent string of events made it clear that the burning place was, in fact, real. I've always found it odd though, even before I knew lucifer, what a bad rep the devil has. I mean he punishes the nasty people who go to hell, which makes him good, right? He just ended up being the poor bloke who got assigned the job.
A loud honk from far below shocked me out of my thoughts. I'd been up here, leaning against the door I entered the empty roof of the building through, way longer than I thought.
"Shit, somebody might notice that I'm missing soon," I mumbled to myself after glancing at my watch, it was nearly seven-thirty. I internally cursed myself for losing track of time, though it was one of my bad habits, and I should have expected it. What I did not expect, though, was somebody replying to the words I spoke to myself.
"Too late darling, I already did. Playing hooky to watch the sunset, are we?"
I just about had a heart attack as I spun towards my previously unnoticed companion, who was leaning against the waist high ledge that ran along the edge of the building. I recognized him instantly.
The definition of tall, dark, and handsome, he was finely dressed in a well fitting suit that would have cost at least three months of my wages. The slightly flirtatious twinkle in his eyes was ever-present, but if I didn't know better I would almost say there is a hint of concern on his face. But this is Lucifer Morningstar we're talking about here, so that's absolutely ridiculous.
"For fuck's sake, you scared the shit out of me Luci!" I said, running a hand over my face and trying to calm my racing heart. I met Lucifer, the owner of one of LA's most fabulously sinful clubs, Lux, several years ago. An idiot at the club drugged my strawberry martini, but Lucifer caught him as he tried to sneak me out the back. We'd been friends ever since, and about six months after that first encounter I accidentally found out that the man was, indeed, the literal devil.
"If you must know, I just had a bit of a rough day and way taking some time for myself," I fibbed.
Lucifer gasped, looking at me incredulously, "You naughty thing! Did you just lie to me?"
I felt a blush creeping up my cheeks and tears pricked the corners of my eyes.
"I don't- I don't know what you're talking about," I sputtered as I walked to stand a few meters away from him, looking over the edge of the roof.
"Naughty, naughty, naughty!" Lucifer said, standing up from his perch, "You just did it again!"
"I did not!" I hissed, as my temper started to rise. I huffed and hopped up to sit on the meter wide ledge, crossing my arms in frustration. "Would you just mind your own business and leave!?" I snapped, my voice beginning to rise. The wind started to pick up, blowing my hair into my face. The sky had begun to darken with clouds a few minutes ago, and it looked as if it might rain.
"How about you come down from up there, darling?" Lucifer said, the concern now evident in his voice. "We can go back to the club. Talk. Or maybe moan. Something to get your spirits up," he continued, but his jokes didn't have their usual effect.
"What? Come down from here!?" I yell as I rise to my feet on top of the ledge.
"Darling, please-" Lucifer started, panic flashing across his face.
"What?" I snarled, "are you afraid I'm a little too close to the edge? Am I seeming a little unstable, luci?"
"Please, just come down from there pet," Lucifer hushed as he reached for me, his hands trembling slightly.
"No!" I yelled as a took a step away from him, an inch of my left heel now over nothing but twenty-three stories of polluted LA air. "I.. I just want this all to be over now. I need it to be over. I'm just so tired." I sighed, suddenly unable to find the energy to prevent tears from streaming down my face. As if on cue, the sky began to spit, coating the lenses of my glasses in tiny droplets.
"Darling, look at me." Lucifer demanded gently.
It took all of my energy to drag my eyes off of the broken concrete of the roof and up onto his face.
"Talk to me. What on earth could cause you to make this idiotic decision? Just tell me, and I'll fix whatever mess you're in. I promise."
"I can't, Lucifer," I cried hysterically, "I just can't! You can't fix it! Nobody can fix it! It's just me, and there's nothing that you or anybody else can do!" My knees threatened to give out under me as a sobbed, causing me to sway in the increasingly temperamental wind.
"Well, if that turns out to be true you can always just pop on back up here, can't you?" Lucifer said, trying to reason with me, "what's the harm in living a little while longer, just in the odd case that things improve?"
I've never thought about it like that before. I mulled internally, it would indeed be a shame if things were about to start looking up but I just offed myself. I guess I could come back later. The sky began to open up, the wind whipping the rain across my face so forcefully it stung.
I was interrupted from my thoughts when, before I could react, lucifer took advantage of absent-mindedness and quickly took those last few steps until he was close enough to grab me by my shoulders.
"It's time to come down from there, darling," Lucifer sighed, his grip gentle but firm on my upper arms, "Come on down."
Before I knew it I was off the ledge, safe on the cold, wet concrete of the roof. Lucifer pulled me into his lap, rubbing soothing circles between my shoulder blades as I sobbed.
"You bloody idiot," he scolded gently, "you scared the hell out of me, and since I'm the devil that's really saying something."
I chuckled weakly at his joke, sniffling and wipping at my nose.
"I'm sorry for all this Lucifer," I said, exhausted and shivering from the rain and cold.
"Oh hush now. Nothing to be sorry for, well, besides ruining this fabulously expensive suit," Lucifer teased, pulling me tight against his chest. His hair was plastered across his forehead from the rain, and his expensive suit jacket was soaking wet. "I think it's about time to go home now though, darling, before we freeze out here."
Lucifer scooped me up gently into his arms, carrying my damp, tired form bridal style. Between the utter exhaustion plaguing my body and the comforting smell of Lucifer's now quite wet shirt, I don't think we even made it into the elevator before I conked out in him arms. Thank God too, because I don't think I could have stood listening to that stupid elevator music.

'Lonely ghost serie'
Proposition and Accord-part VII
"Ghoooost! Good noon!"
"Hello!"
You opened your eyes slowly, barely awake from the deep sleep you had. The grogginess in your voice shadowed by the abnormal deepness of the voice changer.
"Hey, ghost."
"Corpse! Always pleased to hear you."
"Always ,ey?" Toast picked what you said in a more suggestive tone, teasing you with it.
"Cut it ,man."
You didn't bite on the trap however.
" Anyway, mind if I bring a friend?"
"Of course!"
"Sure why not."
"Okay,brb."
"So ,Corpse..."
"To early for that ,Toast."
Near the white astronaut Ghost had, a new little one came. It was black with a pair of headphones and a Wall-e companion. On top the name Charon was displayed.
The others started circling the new mate as Corpse's pink character stood unmoved by your side.
"Good evening!" A low and mature voice came from a woman. It didn't had a mechanical effect to it so it was coming in naturally.
"Hiiiii!"
"Hello!"
"Guys this is Andreea, Andreea this is the Peanut gallery."
"Ha,nice. Good to meet you all."
"Likewise."
"You too."
"Your robot is cute." Corpse remarked.
You smirked when your phone immediately lighted up. A message from Andreea written in big bold letters: 'HIS VOICE IS HOT!'
'I know :)))'
"Andreea , you know how to play this game?"
"Y-Yeah ummm..."
"Sykkuno."
"Sykkuno! Yeah, I know me and Y- I mean ghost sometimes play it. "
"You play together?"
"Well yeah, we play Fallout together, sometimes Minecraft even Eyes the horror game. Speaking of which ghost?"
"Yeah?"
"My place tonight?"
You smirked knowing what's to come.
"Time to corrupt another soul?"
You laughed was intentionally made to be interpreted by the others as evil and dark. In the inside you cringed, you sounded so stupid.
"Umm,guys?" Sykkuno asked for clarification, to which he will not receive.
"YOU GUYS LIVE IN THE SAME CITY?" Pooki asked all excited for some reason.
"Yeah?"
"Same city? We leave in the same apartment building." Andreea told ,a pleasant hiss rang as her long nailed hands opened a Pepsi can.
'Cola is better'
'Fuck off, Y/n'
':))🖕'
"That's so cute!"
"I guess,but she's a pain."
"A pain? Moi? Please, I am only in pain not one."
The others chuckled at your shenanigans, the humour between you and Andreea being based in play fighting, cursing each other and bumping as hard as you can into each. Considering how much of a height difference is between you two, everything just gets more interesting.
"Maan,I want to stay in the same building with you guys also." Corpse pouted.
You two sounded really nice to be with, especially you. You were fun to talk witg and your natural voice was a godsend to his anxiety and insomnia. It made him sometimes slip into a blissful sleep, especially when you began reading to him Doom lore in the late hours of the night.
' "The Maykrs' need for the Essence is prime. Without it they must suffer the monstrous fate of Transfiguration, and see their wisdom and faculties slither from their twisted forms. By bidding of the Khan Maykr herself, the Order of the Deag has devised a method to improve and accelerate the production of the Hell aura. What once took eons for the savage beasts to attai...oof. Wait."
Corpse heard you move in the bed, your body getting its pressure off it before settling back in.
He wanted to start to ask you to read again when he was interrupted by the sound of smooching ? You were kissing somebody?
You puffed and smiled as Sergiu bombarded you with another waves of kisses, a tradition in your group. You all were touched starved creatures so you showed your platonic affections through hand holding, sudden hugging, cuddling- sometimes propping your cold feet on the other person's back just to be dickish- and rains of kisses.
Sergiu was the most affectionate out of all of you, the rain of kisses being something that his mother used to do before she left to work. 'A kiss on the forehead to brighten your thinking, two on the cheeks so no one is lonely and one wherever you want.'
"Alright! Alright! I get it, you are leaving!"
You laughed as you pushed the cuddly golden retriver of a man away.
His chains attached to his black leather belt with grey 3d rombes running all over it clicked as it bounced. His hair smudged on the worn out black leather jacket and his face all but a smile. He was happy and you love to see it.
-Vrei ceva? ("You want something?")
-Umm...PIZZA PĂTRATĂ DE LA DEDEMAN ȘI MOUNTAIN DEW.("Um...SQUARE SHAPED PIZZA FROM DEDEMAN AND MOUNTAIN DEW.")
The man laughed at your antics, roughing up your freshly washed hair and closing the door as he left.
"Corpse? You still there buddy?"
Corpse felt a pang in his chest, you sounded like you have much more fun with the other person. He knew it was stupid but he couldn't help feel jealous and worried at the same time. He wanted to be the reason to make you sound so happy and he didn't want to be worried of being replaced anytime soon.
"Corpse? My petit orchid? Are you okay?"
"Y-Yeah,I am fine."
It came out shaky and too abrupt for your liking. Something's wrong and you didn't want to overstep your boundaries but you couldn't let him go about his day while having something munching on his good mood.
"Hey,hey Corpse."
"Yes?"
"Wanna see my cat?"
"YOU HAVE A CAT?"
"Yes,so do you..."
"Hell yeah. I mean...sure I am cool with that."
You shook your head and became giggling, it's good to know you weren't the only one who didn't know how to cover their slip ups.'
"Trust me Corpse. You don't want to live with this anxiety filled owl."
"HEY! My anxiety adds spice."
"Oh my god!"
"Guys, guys. Can we start the game please?"
"Oh for sure."
————————————————————
"Watch out for the wall, ghost. Watch out for--GHOST! Oh shit ,I lost her guys! Ghost, where are you?"
His character ran in desperate search to find you. When it left the snowy environment from outside , it stopped abruptly. You were there in the office with Sykkuno ripped apart body in front of you.
"Oh shit! Sykkuno!"
His thoughts ran wilde as they hurried to reach a consensus. He knew that you will probably kill him also as you waited for those 10 seconds to pass.
His premonition was proven true went you shut the doors of the office , your character moving slowly towards him.
"Ahhh! Guys ,what the hell do I do?"
His eyes clenched shut as his finger hovered the report button.
The sound of a meeting went off, forcing him to let out the breath he's been withholding. His hands shook as he relaxed himself when his friends started discussing aka screaming at each other.
Someone else called in another body.
You held your fingernails between your lips, leg bouncing from the nerves. You knew Corpse will snitch you out, after all you did killed Sykkuno.
I am so fucked...
Your body covered in a white and black hoodie contorted itself into a smaller position. You ignored the pain that your dead thighs were trying to emit while being in a cross position. Head to busy with anxious thoughts of what Corpse may do.
"Phew, Jesus. I am too nervous for this game."
Andreea's words caught you off guard. She nervous? It's more likely than you think.
Your feelings long forgotten as your protective nature sprung out of the shell.
"You? Nervous? Andreea you are a freaking talented tattoo artist."
"It doesn't matter, my hands are sweating like they are the Danube river."
"Wait ,are you a tattoo artist?"
"Yeah ,I am. I started tatto--"
Mission accomplished! Your goal wasn't to comfort, you knew you sucked at that but to distract. To take her mind away from whatever cause her pain ,then to secretly totally not obviously attack the shit of whatever upset her even bad vibes. Fuck them bad vibes! You and your friends are bad bitches not second hand embarrassments.
"It will be nice if I could do henna also but this hoarding gremlin was only calm enough when she did them. So basically it became her summer job."
Ah. Your mind realised she was telling them how you two met.
You wanted to get some henna tattoos, see if you liked the way the look at you. Andrea was just a beginner when you entered the tattoo shop and her life.
You weren't always an anxious person, the situation changed when your math teacher decided to be a bitch and humiliate you for not knowing geometry. Since then you were always out of breath when you spoke in public, always bouncing your leg when stressed , biting off your nails and having a constant dread when it came socialising with others. And when you are a big girl that amplifies considerably.
People are just shallow like that and you learned a long time ago that their intolerance towards you was a THEY problem rather than a YOU problem.
It's hard thought, sometimes their words and disgusted glares burn you from inside out. Make you feel inhuman ,that your anger, sadness and your passion don't mean anything ,that they are not valid, that you cannot be yourself and liked at the same time nevermind seen as a romantic interest.
But I digress, when it came with Andreea ,everything when abnormally smooth, you joked and laughed, bitch about people and so on. You hit off immediately.
So when you wanted to make a bit of cash ,Andreea didn't hesitate to teach you how to do temporary tattooing.
"That's so nice guys, the body was in specimen room by the way." Dave said.
The others for some reason started blaming Rae , you didn't said nothing as you were still waiting with your breath tight for Corpse to rat you out.
"Corpse? Where were you by the way?"
Here comes the expose.
"I ..uh...wait. I was in the storage then I met Sykkuno in the office but left with ghost."
What?
"Ghost? Can you collaborate his story?"
"Yeah , me and him left Sykkuno. I think orange was with him last time we saw. I am done with my tasks by the way."
"What?"
"LUDWIG! HOW DARE YOU KILL SYKKUNO?!" Corpse growled.
You muted yourself as you squealed. You couldn't believe him. He really took your side!
You took a sip of your green tea, patting yourself on the back for being calm and getting back in the game.
————————————————————
"How could you ,Corpse? I trusted you and you stab me behind my back." Sykkuno exclaimed, pout evident in his voice.
"I am sorry Sykkuno..i-it's just...I...uhh.."
Your microphone was not muted this time so when you burst in laughter you dominated the whole discussion. You laughed ugly but happy as you always did, holding your lower abdomen as it clenched muscle you didn't know you have.
"It's NOT funny, ghost!"
"It'S nOt FuNnY, GhOsT! Bwahaha..."
Despite laughing ,deep down you worried you may have offended your new friends? Nah, too early to call them that.
"I think I know why Corpse did what he did." Grease started in a dramatic sober voice.
"You mean cheated on Sykkuno."
Ludwig ignited couple of laughter from the group.
"Yeah. He did it....drumb rolls please. "
Sean provided the suspenseful roll.
"Because he is a SIMP."
"WHAT?"
"No way..."
"You heard me."
The group went wilde. You didn't know what you could say, your mind crazy yet also numb. Poor Corpse.
"Hey, hey. Guys, please calm down. If you want to come for someone, come for my neck."
Your hands flared up into a peaceful backing sign, you knew of Corpse's bad anxiety and you didn't want to cause him distress by bringing the limelight into his face.
"It's alright, ghost. I am a big boy, I can take it."
You tried to keep it short, you really did but your mind wanted to say one more thing.
"Just like you can open foil?"
You heard a breath intake. You lowered your volume, thinking of what he may do.
"I FUCKING HATE FOIL!"
————————————————————
"Tonight was fun." Corpse said after taking a sip of water.
"Yeah, it was."
You watched your dark hair moving in the air as you played with your toes.
"Sorry again for bringing all the...uh...attention on you."
"It's fine,ghost. I know you didn't mean it."
"Y/n."
"What?"
"My name is Y/n."
Ah!
His heart jumped a bit ,you told him your name that means you trust him right. Lily doesn't know your name so he is the first to know. The first to guard this special information.
"Ghost was kinda wearing down, you know?"
"Y-yeah,...uhh..I mean no! Yes? No? Fuck...It's a pretty name,um...Y/n."
You haulted, getting used to him saying your name will take a while.
"Heh,thanks Corpsie."
"Mhmmm, did you have time to think about what I told you?"
Couple of nights ago,Corpse proposed the idea of starting your own Youtube channel. You were hesitant.
"Corpse, I told I don't think people really like me. I think they just like the voice."
"Non sense. You watched our stream?"
"Noo...? Sorry,I didn't really have time to..."
"Hey, it's okay goofball. Anyway, they were asking more videos with you. Maybe some of them like you because of your voice but most of them like you because they like your personality, gh- Y/n."
"Yeah, I guess..."
"Look you don't have to do it if you don't want to. I just feel bad for all the fans that want to talk with you or sometimes I found something funny and I want to send you or tag you. It's stupid I know."
You didn't like the sad tone of his, your heart tightened and your worries worsened.
"I think I am going to sleep. Goodnight, ghost."
"'Night,Corpse."
You were left in the darkness of your room, at the end of the bed with your long fingers reaching towards your knife, your personal fidget spinner. You chew your nail as you moved the blade unconsciously.
Corpse's account:
.ghost added you. Add them back?

ML NY Special Review
Finally finished my review on the ML NY Special and it’s going to be a long review, I won’t lie. I will be breaking this down in two sections. First section will be focused through the perspective as a professional (animation industry) and the second section through the perspective as a viewer and ML fan.
I won’t deny, I will be criticizing a few things and really give large opinionated thoughts; I’m sure it will piss people off, but I’m gonna be honest and I don’t give a damn. I’ve been here since the beginning and I’m gonna go all out. It wouldn’t be the first time I pissed people off.
Again, keep in mind these are my views/opinions as a professional and as a viewer/fan. If you can’t handle some of the strong opinions that will come from this review, then keep moving on. Don’t waste your time if you can’t handle certain characters or subjects being discussed in a different light.
If you wish to continue, then click the “keep reading” option.
As an animator, this is one of my favorite things to do with animated shows or movies. I absolutely love breaking things down and giving opinions on the whys, whats, and hows. Never do I aim to prove my opinions right. My goal is to simply make you think and consider. And if you don’t agree then that’s completely fine. That’s how it works.
Now, the NY Special has definitely exceeded the quality than what I expected. I absolutely love SAMG as a company. I think this is by far one of the best that SAMG has produced for Miraculous as a whole. Even better than the origin episodes. The lighting is probably the best I’ve seen in a 3D animated tv series, by far. It was stunning and gorgeous and worked well with the given mood that was set throughout the hour of the special. I would say there are two scenes in particular that I felt were the best lit scenes.
The first scene is definitely near the beginning when the class landed in NY and where traveling in the bus. They stopped either at the hotel or museum and the shot was the buses in front of the large building where you have the other city buildings around it. That shot was gorgeous; the orange hues falling on top of the buildings and gaining that purple and blue shadows was great. It’s honestly one of my favorite complementary color schemes to use when lighting most scenes in animation. It helps achieve a nice balance when setting mood but also to get a nice glance at the shapes of the models in the scene. Perfection.
As for the second scene, I would have to say it was the moment Adrien left and Marinette was biking to chase after him and she fell. That moment the scene focused on Marinette on the ground and in the rain spoke many volumes. The color tone of the scene was perfect and captured the common traits used in many shows and films to further drive the sense of sadness and overall emotional effect; using the traditional trait of rain made the scene work and stand out during the struggles that Marinette was dealing with.
The rain in general was outstanding on it’s own. Liquids in animation are tough, not an easy thing to do. The way the rain was animated was probably the best rain I’ve seen in most 3D animated tv series. I will even say it beats the rain from the origin episodes which is amazing because it shows the growth alone that SAMG has come from since the first season of the series.
They create stunning quality work and by far are the best of the best from all the companies that ZAG uses or had used for the show. I won’t lie, I still can’t fathom how Jeremy/ZAG could let such a company go but Jeremy isn’t the greatest with the money, so it’s not a shocker. It definitely shows that man doesn’t know how to properly run a company and treat a show. I honestly blame him for pretty much the entire outcome of the series and that’s my god honest opinionated truth as a professional.
The pacing of the special I felt was good, though I do think it would have been nice to have had an extra 30 minutes to help flow areas a bit better or more, but I can understand the time constraints, especially after hearing about how Thomas stated that the special was going to be two hours originally. And I will be honest, I wouldn’t have minded that. I think it would have been fantastic to have had a longer span episode special, but I understand a lot of the struggles that no doubt the team had endured.
Overall, some issues, but 10 out of 10 on animation and quality output.
Now the second section; viewing through the eyes as a viewer and fan.
As a fan of ML, I will not beat around the bush, I truly believe this special was disappointing plot wise. And I don’t blame Thomas and his team for the issue. As stated previously, my anger and frustration is more on Jeremy/ZAG for everything that has come from ML as a show and especially the result of the NY special.
My biggest issue with the special was the focal point: Adrinette.
How many damn times must I hear, “they’re meant for each other” or “aren’t they perfect together” and so forth. I get it. You can adore Adrientte but I don’t need it shoved down my throat every five minutes. I don’t give an ounce of care that Adrien and Marinette are endgame and that they’re “soulmates”. The romance between those two means absolutely nothing to me. It was cute and fun in the beginning when the series first started, but I’m tired of it. I don’t care about the love square. I don’t care about the “soulmate” trope when in reality anyone can be someone’s soulmate with the right care. That was no doubt the biggest issue for me in the entire special.
In my opinion, it would have been perfect if it wasn’t Adrinette centric. This was the best moment to show Marinette is improving herself but it had to become fan service because god forbid it felt like they needed to please the Adrinette shippers that their ship is still valid. If we’re judging this based off the season 3 finale, I won’t lie, this special fit better as a season 2 finale or mid season 3 than the end of season 3.
I’m seriously more disappointed that the special wasn’t more on Marinette and herself as a character. They were in New York, another strong hub for fashion. This was a perfect opportunity to explore more of her interests as a fashion designer and maybe meeting some new people. Who knows, maybe even Jagged Stone as an international rock star. But overall it was a lost opportunity to expand more on her for the sake of shipping.
I think it would have also been cool to see her and Chat Noir maybe learn some methods/training from the US heroes and get a glimpse into a world of heroism that is different in cultures and circumstances. Which honestly made sense to me how US heroes didn’t care about identity because Ladybug and Chat Noir have magical based items that are no doubt more powerful and outside sources that I’m sure would be willing to destroy to obtain it.
Another problem I had was how I felt we were robbed without having Kagami and Luka go to New York. Or if anything, more with Luka than Kagami. I love Kagami with all my being, but I doubt her mother would let her go to New York. But imagine Luka being there. We could have had a flipping jam session between Luka and Jess. I felt we were cheated, it would have been amazing to see two incredible guitarists jam it out and two people who have a passion for music find a friend in each other. I would have given anything to have had that moment.
Though in general I would have enjoyed anything else if it just wasn’t Adrinette centric. I’m positive everyone in the fandom is on the same page that they’re “soulmates” but there’s more that can be done than a damn ship that has followers that attack and annoy anyone who doesn’t ship them. Because, god forbid, Adrien and Marinette apparently aren’t allowed to be happy with others. I swear, half the fandom (hardcore adrinette shippers) treat Adrien more as an object than the ML characters themselves.
Nothing against the ship, but it’s just not for me and that’s okay. I simply can’t relate to Adrien as a romantic choice of a character. When Luka came into existence, I was in awe. I found a character I could relate too because I was as close to similarity than any other character in a show before. And that’s something I’ve noticed with this fandom, hating characters because to them they’re nothing but boring.
Fans need to understand that one will not understand everything in a show, especially characters. Just because you hate a character and find them boring doesn’t mean they’re terribly written. You as a viewer simply can’t relate to them and that’s completely fine. There will always be some who can relate and understand while others don’t, but that shouldn’t be a reason to argue against people who love a certain character.
And I’m being serious, I enjoyed the 30 seconds of Kagami and Luka with their love interests more than the hour of Adrinette. It’s just overall sad. There is so much potential that could have been the special focus wise but felt it was there to show why Adrinette is “superior” when it’s really not. They’re only one of many ships that are equally good. It comes down to how it’s portrayed and done.
However, since I know we’re stuck with Adrinette no matter what, I’m going to end this review with this as a food for thought but again, this is a simple opinion.
There was one thing that stood out and caught myself and some of my friends in a ML server attention. In the NY special there were strong moments that revolved around bikes. So, out of curiosity, I searched for symbolism meanings about bikes during the server’s conversation and it might hint to what might happen or what might come in the future of the show.
The bike symbolizes the moving circle of life.
Seeing a bicycle is a hint that you will reach somewhere. This could either be your motivation or your future plan. Cycling refers to the different moods that a person feels. Bicycles are also related to the ups and downs of life. For instance, riding a bicycle gives you both smooth edges and rough pebbles on your journey. The smooth edges are related to the happy times of your life and the rough pebbles denote the challenges of life.
So, if we want to use this to break down ML, this in a way, represents Lukanette and Adrinette. Luka are the smooth edges in Marinette’s journey. He’s the one that calms her, helps her think things through, focuses on what Marinette wants to do rather tell her what she should do. Never once does he tell her to do this or do that, but simply asks her what it is she wants. Luka, is pretty much her guide. The happy times as Marinette where she appears happiest without the burdens and overwhelming stress of her other life. Whereas Adrien is the rough pebbles in her journey, the challenges to properly talk with the one she views as a love interest or simply to build that perfect friendship/relationship. Yes, they’re friends, but they’re not as strong as friends like Marinette and Alya or Adrien and Nino. Adrien is a challenge in her life and always will be until she learns to let go and mature.
The other moment that stood out with the bike was the moment Marinette was pressured to chase after Adrien to get him to stay. She chases after him on a bike but falls off in the end.
Falling off the Bicycle: This indicates that you are losing your self-confidence.
Spend time with your loved ones and take suggestions from the experienced people. Join a course on building your personality and motivation. Do things that interest you the most and this will surely help to bring back your confidence level. This indicates a frenzied lifestyle and the need to slow down.
This here makes me believe that Luka is the “experienced people” in Marinette’s life. Other than Kagami, Luka is the only mature one in Marinette’s life in her friend group. He’s one of the biggest motivators in Marinette’s life as of recent. Putting her interests at heart that have helped her build her confidence. We know Marinette has a frenzied lifestyle with everything that she has on her shoulders as well as her passions. And Luka is one of the very few, if not, only one in her friend group that can calm Marinette and help her slow down and simply relax.
I know Adrinette is endgame, but I won’t deny when I say if there was anything that ML could do, is that they make Adrigami and Lukanette endgame. So many shows always pair the two main characters, always. If there is any message that I would have loved to see come from a show like ML, it would simply be “Your first love/crush will not always be the one and that’s okay. That your first crush/love could be the greatest friendship you ever have. And the second chances in your life are just as valuable as the first and may be even better for you.”
Fans might hate Kagami and Luka, but as far as I’m concerned from everything I’ve watched since the beginning, the only reason you’re getting your Adrinette in the end is all because of Luka. If it weren’t for him majority of the time, y’all wouldn’t have half of your love square moments. So, Luka is the true MVP in my book. Because unlike many of the others, he doesn’t put pressure on Marinette and that’s what Marinette doesn’t need right now, more pressure.
Adrien and Marinette might be endgame, but those two need people outside of their classmates because everyone is too tunnel vision. Luka and Kagami are the only ones that will help Adrien and Marinette mature, cause those two will not be able to do it themselves. So, if you want your Adrinette, you’re gonna have to suffer through Lukanette and Adrigami.
