Josephine Deleted Dialogue
Josephine Masterpost
—
Josephine: They were still happy days. I made some dear friends in Val Royeaux.
—
Let’s do something fun.
PC: Stroll around the grounds with me. Tell me how you’re doing, not just your work. Josephine: Well, thank you. Now let me think…
PC: I need some air. Care to accompany me? Josephine: Most certainly. Lead the way.
PC: You could use a break to clear you head. I thought we could talk a while. Josephine: That sounds delightful.
—
Josephine: Ah. That makes more sense.
You’ll need to explain it to me. PC: I’m afraid I’m missing something here. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
Why aren’t you more nervous? PC: You’re taking this much too calmly.
Josephine: There’s some relief in understanding why this is happening.
—
Josephine: The real Comte Boisvert, judging from his clothing.
PC: He’s still breathing. Just unconscious.
Josephine: So there was no contract on him. The House of Repose is very particular about who receives their services.
—
Josephine: Judge Auld is willing to do so, if you’ll join him for a hunt. (Sighs.) He said it would be “wonderful fun.” I couldn’t persuade him to come to us. I’m afraid you must indulge his love of sport.
—
Bellise: Now let us return to the party before we’re discussed by its flock any further.

Dogtooth x Reader Headcanons!!!
Headcanons I made of Dogtooth. I had made it for myself but I wanted to post it here since there are almost no Boisvert headcanons here on Tumblr. I love Dogtooth so much, so this is kind of a gift for all the people who like him like I do!
_____________________________
Affection? Yes.
Dogtooth shows affection through physical touch. He doesn't know much about affection, but he tries to show it to you, even if it's difficult for him. He gives you things he finds lying around, wondering if you'll like them, even if the "thing" he's picked up is very bad.
He also loves it when you pet him. At first he didn't understand petting, he thought it was something hurtful and always tried to defend himself, but you've shown him that it's okay. After you've taught him what affection is, he tries to show you too, even though it's difficult for him.
He gives you hugs from behind, which sometimes scares you, but now you've got used to it. When he's in a bad mood or sad (he's rarely sad) he stays on your lap for hours and hours while you cuddle him on the head, which for some reason calms him down.
Not very open with you
He's very closed off, quiet and very mysterious. You practically don't know anything about him, even if you insist that he can talk to you about something, he'll deny it. He does trust you, the problem is that he doesn't know how to explain things to you, his past is very complicated, and he's not ready to explain it.
Before he met you he was very lonely, that much is clear. He didn't have anyone to talk to, he just killed gods and angels for some unknown reason.
But from the signals he gives off, you can tell when something's bothering him.
Security!!!
He protects you from anything. He watches you like a hawk, not letting anything happen to you. He's very possessive, and he knows it. You've talked to him about it, but he still acts the same way, he's very stubborn.
Almost all humanoids in that world are dangerous, and he tries to keep you as far away from danger and away from them as possible, even going too far
Kisses? Half term.
He doesn't kiss. His mouth is full of knives, how could he kiss you? It's impossible. But he lets you kiss him. As I said, at first he didn't know anything about affection, YOU had to teach him that.
You just give him quick kisses, a little kiss, because a long kiss makes him uncomfortable.
He loves your kisses, after all, it makes him feel a bit happy. He likes it when you kiss him on the forehead, anywhere but the mouth.
His patience
It doesn't even need explaining, does it? It's very obvious that he has hardcore anger issues. He has an explosive temper, and you have to calm him down at times. He can stay calm with you.
He doesn't get angry with you, just with the situation he or the two of you are in. He sees you as a person who needs to be protected at all costs, and even in times of intense anger he picks up on this quickly.
You try to calm him down with little soothing words or even a caress on the head.
Possessive? Of course!
As well as having maximum security, he's possessive... very possessive.
He doesn't let ANYONE near you, you can't have friends and even if he did let you have friends he'd keep an eye on you all the time. It's very uncomfortable.
You can understand that he's doing this because he wants you to feel good, but it's really bad for you and for his health.
By the way, don't try to provoke him or make him jealous, it will have consequences...
If you had friends, he'd hunt them all down/j

hey beetles!
introduction
🪲🐌🐛🐞
☆……………….
hey there! my name’s blackoutbugza.
“what do i call you?”
you can call me by my username, or you can call me by my nicknames: bugza, bob, and cam. :)
“who is your target audience?”
my blog is mostly ages 13+ for explicit language, in-character art which may involve sensitive content such as blood, knives, scissors, cuts, scars, suicide, sexual innuendo, injuries, or even death. this sounds like an ad for medicine. of course, i will have warnings on my posts if any of these apply to them.
(note: 13+ DOES NOT mean 18+. please keep this in mind, im still a minor too.)
“what fandoms are you in?”
in order from most to least currently hyperfixated:
sanders sides
bfdi/osc community
bee and puppycat
omori
boisvert
south park
spooky month
five nights at freddy’s
scott pilgrim
hilda
stanley parable
^i’m more than happy to talk about any of these fandoms if you’re interested!
“do you support multishippers?”
yes! i find no harm in shipping someone with more than one person (if they’re not anyone from real life). in fact, i’m a multishipper myself!
“do you take art requests?”
you betcha! any day, any time. but i do have some rules however for what i can and cannot draw for you:
i’m totally okay with ship art. as long as it’s not anything involving p*dophelia, inc*st, r*cism, some kind of f*tish, or anything else falling under that umbrella.
following that “ship art” thing, poly ships are just as valid too. follow the the rules as rule 1 please.
although i may post this art from time to time on my own, i will not do any personal OCs or AUs. i love them very much and you have interesting characters, but this is basically the equivalent to asking, “can you draw me?”
i can draw theories as long as they’re not harmful ones, and as long as they at least make sense.
i won’t take requests for any fandom outside of the list i have above. (however of course, let’s if you wanted a sanders sides art request and you asked for emile picani or remy sleep, that would be fine since sanders sides, the sleep shorts, and cartoon therapy are all in the same universe.)
“who’s on your DNI list?”
p*dophiles, inc*sts, pro-lifers, anyone who will go out of their way to hate on furries or alterhumans (or claims they are the same), harmful f*tish artists/enjoyers, NSFW artists/enjoyers, r*cists, misogynists and misandrists, ableists, homophobes, transphobes, or anyone pro-israel. ^anyone who interacts with me who’s on this list WILL be unfollowed/blocked, and will not receive any sort of contact from me.
“what if i have a question you don’t answer in this introduction post?”
my “send art requests!” button also works as an answering service for any further questions you may have.
“what sanders sides ships will you and will you not do art requests for?”
(not in order from favorites)
will:
logicality
prinxiety
dukeceit
moceit
analogical
loceit
intrulogical
intruloceit
logicaliceit
remile
royality
anxceit
intruality
logince
karrot kings
literally anything else as long as it’s not in the wont list
won’t:
romrem
LAMP
GET TO KNOW ME!!!
———————————————
what’s your favorite color(s)?”
peach, ivory, mango orange, and taupe :)
“why do you only talk in lowercase?”
because i can
“dogs or cats?”
snails
“what’s your favorite holiday?”
i like my birthday!
“are you dating someone?”
nope ;_;
“what’s your favorite object show(s)?”
hfjone, happy star’s gtos, xfohv/the subscriber count, tdos, and the nightly manor
“who’s your favorite sanders sides character(s)?”
logan and c!joan (it may seem like it’s remus but he’s just the funnest to draw)
“why do you take so long to answer art requests?”
i’m lazy (and dried of motivation)
“what’s your favorite pattycake style?”
peppermint patty
“what’s your favorite pokémon?”
mimikyu (basic autism stuff ik)
“oh! do you have autism?”
yep
“what’s your favorite breakfast food?”
bacon
“how do you color your art?”
i make 3 layers. top layer is for outline, bottom layer is for the coloring, and the middle layer is for potential shading or watermarks i may want to remove.
“why did you make a tumblr acc?”
i wanted to post my art on a platform where sanders sides is fairly known and the fandom is stable.
“what’s your favorite book series?”
i don’t like reading :/ if i had to choose one it would probably be the fazbear frights books
“favorite musical artist(s)?”
jack stauber, madilyn mei, tally hall, thomas sanders (if he counts-)
“friends you wanna tag?”
@thegoldenduckie
@not-sure-what-im-feeling
@logan-the-artist
@simply-a-moth
@literallyblanc
@oatmeal-stans-the-trash-rat
@darksides-dutchess
@starshard17
@theelectricalcity
(anyone who wants to be added/removed just message me & i’ll do it)
i think that’s all. you know the drill.
drink water, eat a snack, take a shower, brush those teeth, and love yourself so much you can shatter the multiverse with just how much you can say “i love me” and mean it. (that would be funny if that actually happened be the one to do it pls)
seriously though. love you.

BOISVERT TKL HCS PT 2!!
As promised here’s part 2 of Boisvert tickle hcs for all the Boisvert tkl community fans (maybe) out there. ENJOY.
COMPLEX
LER
SUPER TEASY
Finds your spots all the time!!
Thinks his Lee’s laughter are adorable so he doesn’t stop tickling you for a while.
Tickled the shit outta Dogtooth while they were fighting (my au)
Does it a lot even with all of those hands.
Goes for the sides, belly, neck, or ribs.
He wouldn’t pin you down often since he’s somewhat gentle.
Will let you rest for a few minutes like 15-13
And especially laughs along with you!!
LEE
100% on the ticklish spectrum!!!
Man cannot stand teases either!
He’s super wiggly when tickled and his arms flail around so be careful not to get hit.
His laugh is super bubbly and joyful!
His most ticklish spots are his sides, and palms of his hands.
LOVES IT and will never ask you to stop until he falls asleep.
Doesn’t like getting pinned down much.
Likes to get hugged and tickled at the same time.
He’s also a worm :3
ANGEL
LER
Look at him. Look. LOOK. AT. HIM.
You cannot tell me that this fucker hasn’t tickled anyone EVER!?!?
He looks like a fucking merciless ler.
Absolute teaser and a master at tickling.
Definitely has tickled Room once or twice!
Will say things like “Oh~ is this a good spot?” or “Is the little human scared of being tickled~?” With a cheesy smirk.
Pokes and prods at first but then starts to go faster until he’ll eventually start going crazy and tickle you all over.
Goes for your most sensitive spots on your body.
Likes the sound of his lee’s laughter (he finds it entertaining)
(Add on: He also uses his hands to tickle the life outta you :3 )
LEE
Hmmm… possibly on a scale of 90%?.. nah nah… let’s go with 99%!
Screechy and squirmy when being tickled
He blocks himself with his hands or arms.
He’s super sensitive on his ribs and will immediately try pushing you away once you touch them.
Somewhat likes it but at some point he’ll change his mind again and again.
He barley can handle sneak attacks so he’ll have his eye on you while your near him.
Will scream and “cry out” once you get him pinned down.
He’ll beg and plead for mercy but he knows you won’t give a fuck.
A very bubbly and soft laugh.
COVENANT
LER
He looks like he’ll give you mercy??? Maybe??\?\
He’s very gentle and soft with his tickling and won’t do it hard.
Giggles along with you.
Will first cuddle or snuggle close to you in order to attack.
Loves hearing your laugh!
Blows raspberries on your neck a lot of times! (Even though he has no mouth and his head is made of paper)
Thinks your squirming is cute.
Likes to tease and hug you about your sensitivity.
Talks in a childish voice in order to make you more flustered.
LEE:
SUPER TICKLISH
Isn’t fond of being tickled but still finds it enjoyable.
He finds it very rare for him to be tickled or even laugh.
He has super high pitched laugh and it sounds like a tea kettle.
He usually can sense that a person is about to tickle him.
Motherfucker will not stay still for a second and will squeal once you lay a finger on him.
His stomach is the most sensitive, so are his armpits.
He will run away once he hears a word that’s similar to “tickling” or mishears the word.
Does not like to get pinned down unless he’s in a lee mood.
Holay molaaay… I’m tired. Finally got this done and now my life is complete lol.
(I maybe will do T.O.E and T.B.O.P hcs soon so if u guys have any ideas just ask since ideas r free now!! ;)
Anyways hope this was enough!!! Have a great day!!

Besides written literature, what would be your ideal medium for Boisvert? (Animated, live action, comic, TV show, movies, etc)
omg. ok. so. i think i would really love to see boisvert turned into something of an illustrated children's book, one of those really big heavy tomes with the rich illustrations and all of that, but that's still written ... i think tv shiws and movies aren’t very true to her Nature but if i had to pick of these i think a movie series would be most loyal. if it was SUPER up to me i would say a series of plays that appear disconnected :-) or a radio drama!

I saw your tags about French book ideas 👀 i’m currently at a level where I’m just looking at graphic novels to read (I think I’ve got dialogue down but prose? Uhhhh) but if you had book recs that are above that level I can tuck them away for the future
Hi @sofflepoffle! I’m always super happy to have the opportunity to talk about french litterature, so i made you a little list, from easier reads to harder things!
Pierre Bottero - Le chant du Troll (French writer) This is my favorite writer of all times, and he writes children’s books. He’s incredible, his writing is so poetic and deep and well developped, with beautiful characters and a nice storyline. This one is a graphic novel, i usually dont suggest to start with this one because the story is 1000x more emotionnal if you already know about the world and who the kid is, but my mother read it out of the blue and she cried so i’d say it still hits?
Hergé - Tintin (Writer from Belgium) You’re probably already familiar with the Tintin series, they’re honestly good as a learning tool. I would suggest Le secret de la licorne, On a marché sur la lune, or Les 7 boules de crystal.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - Le petit prince (French writer) Pretty well known, its easy to read, cute and wholesome overall, would recommend trying it!
Pierre Bottero - La quête d’Ewilan (French writer) He got a few book series, but they all connect with each other, so this is a good place to start but you could start from somewhere else! Easy read, since it’s a children’s book.
Jocelyn Boisvert - Mort et déterré (Writer from Québec) YA book, so pretty easy to follow! Cute story of a teenager who dies, but somehow doesnt fully dies? He becomes some kind of zombie creature, and then just chill as a zombie with his bestie, trying to do things he never got to do in his life.
Jocelyne Saucier - Il pleuvait des oiseaux (Writer from Québec) I have to say, i didnt read it, but my friend recommended it to me, and he says its a good and easy read! They also made it into a movie, if you wanna try that.
Patrick Senécal - Any book of him, really (Writer from Québec) This writer is kind of our own Stephen King (kinda more gross and less good, no offense to the dude), so if its your kind of thing you could check it out, pretty easy read!
Michel Folco - Dieu et nous seuls pouvons (French writer) Comedic story of a family of excecutioners living in the XVIIe century. There is some torture and lots of killing of course, so avoid if its not your thing, but over all pretty good book!
Jean Barbe - Comment devenir un monstre (Writer from Québec) Very good book, heavy read because its a quite serious book. Very good tho!
Domique Fortier - Du bon usage des étoiles (Writer from Québec) Historical fiction, i liked the suspense and the description of the territory, a very captivating read!
Véronique Grenier - Hiroshimoi (Writer from Québec) Fun fact, this writer was my philosophy teacher in college! She’s a poet and a writer, so this book is kinda halfway between both? It’s a love story, or rather a break up story, but written in form of a poem. It’s kinda hard to read, because she plays a lot on sounds, creates new words by mixing two together, so hard to read, but also pretty short sentences.
Boris Vian - L’Écume des jours (French writer) A personnal favorite of mine, its an absurd tragedy, putting it on the top of the list because of the “absurd” quality of it. A lot of things do not make sense, like rooms that change shape depending on the music playing.
I didnt want to into too much of a big rant, so just putting those i can think of quickly, but if you want more ideas, like more easy read or more medium reads or whatever you can always hit me up! I would also suggest reading something you’re already familiar with? You might be already doing that, but if not, for me its what helped the most. I literally just took books i read in french, found them in english, and then tried reading that. I hope this helps, hit me up if you need anything else!
#ask#for real hit me up if you want more personnalized ideas#i have no idea what you like#but if you're more into one thing then i can expand on that more#i loove books so always happy to help#book rec asks

I found a list of these channels on youtube and I've still got like 7 whole channels that I need to peruse. I finally caught up with Boisvert and god do I love it. The style and art of it all is so fantastic, I can't even describe it.
Might give one of the channels a peek tonight after dinner and see if it's worth adding to the rest lol.

I suppose I would be unhelpful in this field, most of the horror that I consume are either short-form or interactive in some fashion. There are some however that I think would be good for crocheting to, if you would allow me to be autistic for a bit.
While the DHMIS YouTube series would be nothing more than a glorified song playlist in this context, the TV show is actually pretty good to put on just for a bit. Then again the show isn't really horror, moreso a dark comedy with great characterization. Still really fun to watch regardless.
Daisy Brown is perfect I love Daisy Brown. A lot of her videos are just the character talking about normal ass things, the only thing tipping the viewer off that it's fiction is the fucking monster she calls Alan. While it is a great series, it does contain scenes of abuse, so fair warning if that is in any way triggering.
Boisvert is beautiful, although it stopped being horror a long time ago. This isn't a bad thing, far from it, the series is still impeccable and thoughtful in all aspects.
While I haven't experienced much of either, I have heard good things about the Magnus Archives and the Mayfair Watchers Society.
I guess readings of various creepypastas and SCPs also count? Although I doubt this is news to most people.
Can't think of much more that work in this context, brain has turned to mush.

Mediaeval-Muse’s List of Books About LGBT+ People in the Middle Ages
Here’s a list of resources that are fairly accessible if you want to start learning about LGBT+ people in the middle ages. I’m including books/texts on non-”traditional” gender expression and medieval cross-dressing. Please note: my specialty is in medieval England, but I’m trying to suggest some things that are more global. I included hyperlinks for articles/complete texts. All others are books you may need to buy or check out from a library.
There are obviously much, much more resources than these. I just think they’re pretty good starting points. I haven’t included a list of historical figures who may or may not have been lgbt+ because I’m a medieval lit scholar, not a historian, so my list is mostly to do with the study of lit. I’ve also excluded resources that “queer” things like time, genre, etc. and focus more on same-sex relationships themselves.
Secondary Sources (Scholarship)
Akasaka, Shunichi, “What Was Cross Dressing in the Middle Ages?” Bibliography from medievalists.net (global) Blackmore, Josiah and Gregory S. Breakfast from Val Royeaux
Meara headed to Cullen’s tower, it was early the sun had not even started to peak through the night sky leaving Skyhold dark except for a few remaining torches lit near the courtyard. It didn’t matter, Meara’s feet had traced this path so often they could do it without her. She hated to disturb Cullen so early, she was hopeful that he was still asleep and had gotten some rest. He worked too late most nights and had such a difficult time releasing control of his thoughts and allowing himself to slip into the fade.
As she reached his door she hesitated for a moment, she really should not disturb him if he was sleeping. But they had just returned from Val Royeaux and she couldn’t wait another minute to see him. She entered his office as quietly as she could, if he was sleeping she wanted him to wake to her not a strange noise in his office below. Listening for any sounds of movement to indicate he was awake Meara slowly ascended the ladder to his quarters.
“I do not know why he insists on sleeping in this drafty old tower with the hole in the roof.” she thought to herself. It was chilly, but she could also see the romantic side of it when she was laying in his bed under the stars.
Cullen was sound asleep, for a soldier he slept like a rock when he did sleep. She took a minute to just take it all in, she was the one place she had wanted to be since she and Josephine had left to speak with the Comte at Boisvert Mansion. That had not gone as planned, but she was determined this morning would.
Placing a small box on the stand in Cullen’s room she slid off her boots and jacket and slipped into bed with Cullen. He barely moved as she snuggled herself into his side and she found that he instinctively placed an arm around her even while he slept. She loved that it was all so familiar so comfortable, she realized every time she came home she fell more in love with him. She melted into his arms and couldn’t resist reaching up to tousle his hair. It was always groomed into place just so, but Meara loved his messy bed head in the mornings. The way his wavy hair would escape the hold of the pomade he used while he slept and rebel against his attempts to keep it in line.
She had intended to gently wake Cullen with a kiss and announce her arrival home before giving him the box from Val Royeaux, however she found herself drifting into the fade in the warmth of his embrace. She could wait to wake him; the contents of the box were not going anywhere and all she had truly wanted was to be in his arms again – it didn’t matter that he was asleep.
Meara woke to the sunlight falling through the hole in the roof and a small buzz of activity as the courtyard below started to fill with people. She was groggy from her nap, but apparently it was well needed. She had almost forgotten that she came to deliver a box to Cullen when she felt his eyes on her as he shifted his weight to bring her in closer.
“How long have you been awake?” she asked.
“I should ask you how long you have been here, and how you got in without waking me?” Cullen responded. “But to answer your question, not long. I was dreaming that you had come home and woke to find you in my bed.”
The slight smirk on his face telling Meara that he wasn’t being completely honest, “Really? Just a few minutes or so then?”
“No,” he confessed, “I have been awake since the first light, but when I woke to you sleeping soundly in my arms I couldn’t bring myself to disturb you. It was such a nice surprise and you are so beautiful when you sleep, I just wanted to hold onto the moment as long as I could.” His smirk turning into a smile, he placed a soft kiss on Meara’s forehead and held his lips to her skin.
“The box!” Meara thought.
She wanted to stay in bed with Cullen, it would be so easy to allow him to roll her over and make love to her in the cool morning air that filled the room. She found she had to work hard to push the thought from her head, Cullen made it worse as the rough of his stubble gave her shivers as he placed another kiss on her neck. When he pressed his lips to hers she knew she had to make a conscious effort to get up now or it wasn’t going to happen.
“I brought something back from Val Royeaux” she said trying hard to pull her lips away from his. “I know you aren’t much on all the pomp in Orlais, but I thought you might enjoy this.”
“I am enjoying this,” Cullen almost growled lowering his voice as he pressed his lips against hers again. “Can’t it wait a few more minutes?”
It could but Meara knew that it would be more than a few minutes and she had wanted to share breakfast with Cullen before she had to relinquish him to reports and missives. Plus, with her arrival back in Skyhold there would be a meeting in the war room and she didn’t want to face Leliana again when she and Cullen strolled in a few minutes late.
“Yes, it could wait but I have been anxious to share it with you.”
Placing another kiss on her lips, Cullen yielded to her enthusiasm allowing her to get out of bed and fetch the small box, “So what is in this box you can’t wait to share with me?”
Meara picked up the box from its resting place on the table and took it back to sit on the bed with Cullen. The sun was dancing through the leaves on the tree that had grown through the hole of the tower and casting small shadows on the bed.
“It’s breakfast” Meara said, sounding quite pleased with herself.
“Breakfast?” Cullen questioned. “There must be more than a bit of dry toast or some fruit in that box to make you bring it back from Orlais!”
Meara opened the box and held it out to Cullen, “There is, they are pastries from a bakery Josephine introduced me to!”
Cullen reached for the box, “Pastries, like dessert?”
“No, not exactly. They are meant for breakfast and usually served with hot tea or coffee.”
Meara pulled a soft pastry from the box, she broke a small piece off the side exposing the bright red filling inside. Powdery sugar fell from the piece as she reached to put it in Cullen’s mouth.
“Try it, they are amazing!”
Cullen a bit unsure allowed Meara to feed him the bite, he was relieved when it was delicious and all but melted in his mouth.
“Is that strawberries?” he asked.
“Strawberry jam, they had other fillings too but this one is my favorite!” Meara was pleased that Cullen liked the treat. “I knew you would like it.”
“Do they often bring you breakfast in bed in Orlais?” Cullen teased. “If so, I am not sure how I feel about your trips being unaccompanied.” The smirk returning to his lips now lightly coated in pastry sugar.
Meara blushed, she wanted to lick the sugar from his lips before he could. “No, but it sounds like a good idea!” she said mocking his tone, “they do have some handsome attendants in ….”
She saw the scowl set on Cullen’s face but wasn’t sure if it was from being caught in his own teasing or anger from the idea of her having breakfast in bed brought to her by a handsome Orlesian attendant. She thought she better quit while she was ahead and leaned over giving in to the desire to lick his sugary lips.
“You are welcome to come along anytime you can get away.” she smiled after running her tongue over his lips making sure to get every bit of sugar.
“I would like that, but there may be a lack of company with all the work I would bring along.” Cullen replied.
“Oh Commander, I am afraid there would be plenty of company did you forget how much attention you attract in Orlais!” Meara said raising her eyebrow slightly.
Cullen pulled the corner of his mouth back into that irresistible smirk, looking at her with a ferocity in his eyes that told her they were not going to make the meeting in the war room on time again.
“My dear Inquisitor, you forget that yours is the only attention worth having.”

12 days: on the twelfth day of christmas: kostow… (2017)
–
It always seems to end before it begins.
For five years now, I’ve had the pleasure of recording and reporting from one of the most magical corners of the culinary world during one of the most magical seasons of the year. It is an annual gathering of extraordinary talent and goodwill that has also become one of the most anticipated culinary events among spectators, and one of the most coveted invitations among chefs.
The many personal observations and sentiments about the Twelve Days of Christmas that I’ve shared along the way, especially those that I recorded at the end of 2014, still apply today. I know they are inadequate, partly because the scope and wonder of it all defy words, but mostly because improving upon them exceeds my talent as a writer. So, dispensing with unnecessary flourishes, I bring forward all past marvel and deep-felt thanks to my colleagues, friends, and family at The Restaurant at Meadowood. Your goals are admirable, your mission noble, and your standards ever higher.

Today, as we arrive at the Epiphany, the true end to the Twelve Days of Christmas, I draw close another very special set of a dozen days. This year’s twelfth night marks my 60th and hosting chef Christopher Kostow’s 108th dinner of the Twelve Days of Christmas at The Restaurant at Meadowood.

December at The Restaurant at Meadowood is a nonstop blur of activity, excitement, and wonder. If you blink, you will surely miss something.
No matter how hard I pay attention to what’s going on in the kitchen during the day, every night, unexpected things still magically appear out of nowhere.
Nathaniel Dorn, too, is always up to something in the front of the house. He is both general manager and the principle architect of awesome at the restaurant. He makes things happen, like twinkling lights, cozy corners, and snow, every night of this year’s run of dinners.
After five years of having an all-access pass, every day at The Twelve Days of Christmas is still full of surprises, even for me.

As head chef, Christopher Kostow gets the credit (and the burden) every day at The Restaurant at Meadowood. But, on the last night of the Twelve Days of Christmas, when all of the guest chefs have cleared the stage, Kostow hands the show over to his cooks, who write the final menu.
The Restaurant at Meadowood’s kitchen is comprised of a diverse group.
These talented and hard-working men and women come from the Philippines, Trinidad, Québec, Brazil, and all over the United States – Nevada, Oregon, Georgia, and California to name a few. Many of them have worked in kitchens across the world. More significantly, their culinary curiosity know no borders.
This was reflected in the melting pot of flavors presented on the last night.

I’ll share a few highlights for me from this twelfth night:
I particularly liked Fréderic Comeau-Boisvert’s canapé – pâté of foie gras sandwiched between shortbread biscuits, rolled with dried rose petals. They were beautiful and delicious.
Cook Ali Matteis presented two notable dishes. The first was a bowl of crab with thin slices of matsutake mushrooms. It was elegant and simple. She also presented a stunning dessert that played with the texture of pear and sunchoke, blurring the line between them. They made a smart couple, and Matteis balanced the starchiness of both well with both sweetness and acidity. I loved it.
I also really liked Nick Sobiek’s plate of lamb tongue with porcini and potato purée. It was classic and comforting, a flavorful mid-meal pause.
Guests drink very well during the Twelve Days of Christmas. But on this last night, the wine team, headed by Micah Clark, pull out some particularly weighty and aged bottles. The curated wine list from this last night included Harlan Estate’s “The Maiden” (2012), as well as a pour of 1986 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon, and an imperial of 1978 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon.

Per annual tradition, Christopher Kostow concluded this year’s Twelve Days of Christmas in the dining room with a word of gratitude to the guests and to his team – every member vacated their station and crowded into the dining room for one, final farewell and round of applause.
Below, you’ll find the menu from the twelfth and final night of the Twelve Days of Christmas, featuring dishes created by the cooks at The Restaurant at Meadowood. To see all of the photos from this final dinner, CLICK HERE.
