Anyways, now that this isn’t a hot topic anymore, can I say that I don’t think the framing of “cops and nurses were all school bullies” was very useful as far as criticism of systemic issues went. Largely because it framed the issue as a matter of people’s personal moral character, ie a personal issue. Rather than a systemic issue of certain jobs which allow for people to have large amounts of power over vulnerable populations, which will lead to abuse because of the imbalance of power. Regardless of what position the person held in the social pecking order when they were in school.
In addition, I know there was a certain amount of pushback towards people criticising ex: nurses via saying that it was misogynistic for them to do so. With the common response being that 1) being a female-dominated field does not prevent abuse from being carried out because of the position of power they hold over patients and 2) a lot of these posts were disabled people talking about medical abuse. And I agree.
What I would like to add though is that while it is important to talk about medical abuse and the ways in which systemic abuse is allowed to be perpetuated, the line of thinking that “cops are former male bullies and nurses are former female bullies” is still sexist. Firstly because this is essentially “policing is for he/hims and nursing is for she/hers”, which I feel is capitulating on gender stereotypes in addition to obscuring the true causes of abusive behaviours among police officers/medical practitioners (two different groups of people who need to be analysed differently in any case, regardless of gender).
Secondly because I feel like to a certain degree, a double standard was kind of held up. As in, I saw people who were totally willing to talk about the systemic abuses nurses and such carried out, who also tended to derail conversations about ex: the American military with discussions about how men in the American military are victims to the system, at the expense of people who are from or have family roots from the countries which had been attacked by the USA talking about the oppression they faced*. Which I feel is sexist in 1) the way people entering male-dominated fields tend to be afforded a certain level of innocence to their decisions in a way those entering pink-collar fields were not. And 2) more effort was afforded to analysing the US military as a system than say healthcare, which at that point was largely framed as an issue of personal misbehaviour.
*I think there’s also something to be said about how a lot of it is the result of US-centrism/Global North centrism too. With people tending to view citizens of their countries with more sympathy than the people of the Global South these veterans were sent out to kill. In addition, the predominant image of a nurse used in a lot of the hypotheticals was of a middle-class white woman. Which does come with its own baggage and is important to talk about (white supremacy and classism is a real issue in healthcare, and its workers are all capable of perpetuating that). I feel like something worth bringing up though, is the fact that a lot of nurses in the modern day have working-class backgrounds, in particular working-class women from Global South nations. This is not to say that abuse can’t be carried out by these women. But I feel like the fact that the existence of such women tends to be rendered invisible in favour of the figure of the middle class white woman nurse does speak to a lack of care in these discussions to talk about systemic issues in nursing and how it leads to the perpetuation of abuse. Especially in comparison to the US military veterans, who often did have people talking about the systemic factors that play into their decision to enlist in the army. And that does speak to the double standard at play here.

i have at this point gotten three people in my notes going "i volunteer at a crisis center and this is misinformation!" (a) literally what about my post is misinformation. op was kind of sloppily phrased bc i didn't expect ppl to reblog it but "most hotlines call the cops sometimes, here are some that do that Never" is just true information (b) fuck OFF. check my blog. i'm a psychiatric survivor you're not going to convince me that calling the cops to forcibly institutionalize people is totally okay when you do it and it's so irresponsible of me to discourage people from getting help. maybe i should add that in bold letters to the top of my pinned post (or temporarily pin a different post?) until this post dies down.
i just. it's not ~spreading misinformation~ to say that you do the things you admit to doing. (one of the people was actually denying that crisis lines did that but in a way that was...trivially disprovable? so im not sure what that was about lmao. and then the other two were straightup "YES we call the cops sometimes but only when we HAVE to so it's NOT BAD, stop spreading MISINFORMATION")
also 2/3 blocked me and the third is just going through my notes and reblogging all the people who disagreed with me without actually responding to me.

ooooh aaah my first anonymous hate mail!
now i know i said i'd post this sort of stuff publicly to shame the sender, but i'm faaaaiiirly sure this is a kid. so! i'm not gonna post it, or engage, and have in fact already deleted it, because i really really suspect it's a kid.
i'll address one part: about me not tagging my work.
like many other things in the ask, that's an outright lie. i actually do my best to tag comprehensively and liberally, and if you're hatescrolling my blog you already know my tag for the shipaganza in particular is this: 🎀💖
i have put this tag (again, it's 🎀💖) on every post related to the shipaganza. even the explicitly non-romantic, platonic ones (like bandee's and kirby's) and the what the heck is that? ones (like marx's) so that people can liberally avoid it for any number of reasons. i'm just doing this event for fun, and want it to be fun for people viewing the work as well!
i also make it clear regularly that earnest folks can ask me to tag anything in particular and i will do so. however, i cannot control what tags are used on a post once it leaves my blog, so i recommend that you use this handy feature
Tumblr media
to make sure you never have to see any of my content ever again, no matter who else might reblog it onto your feed!
if that's not enough and you're still finding mentions of me on your timeline (such as when other people @ me), you can also apparently use "filtered post content" and just put my username in there. now i haven't tried that in particular, but it seems comprehensive as it searches the entire post for instances of a phrase. here are the instructions on how to do that.
anyway! i hope these steps successfully help you to never see my content or mentions of me ever again!

I've gotten a few new followers recently for specific fandoms, so I just want to say thank you, but also I will not take it personally if you choose to unfollow because I reblog posts for a variety of fandoms here. (Thank you even more to my current followers who have endured me for this long).
I try to tag everything accordingly so posts can be blocked if necessary, but it's at least 7 different fandoms, so apologies in advance.
For reference, I queue around 20 posts a day from 5am to 11pm and I try not two have two posts from the same fandom in a row (unless I reblog without queuing).
Thank you again for following me, and remember that I do not mind if you choose to unfollow at any point. I know this blog is a mess.

Random opinion that I'll probably be burned at the stake for:
I'm not a fan of the "SCROLL BACK UP THIS IS A PAINTING" type of posts.
Like yes of course don't get me wrong it's very technically impressive and takes a lot of skill to make a painting so realistic that it's indistinguishable from a photo at first glance.
But then what's the point if you have to emphasize that it's art because no one would be able to tell otherwise?
Idk it just kinda bothers me when artists get upset about people not reblogging art that they spent hours and hours and hours on, when it looks literally exactly like a normal photo that most people would just scroll past. You spent so much time and effort on it and it ended up looking..... literally exactly like the photo you referenced. They're the same image. No one can even tell that it's art unless they zoom in.

This is probably swinging a bit of a bat at a hornet’s nest on this website, but I wonder if the rise of purity culture in fandom, aside from other influencing factors, could have something to do with the fact that so many young fans tend to consume primarily media intended for children.
After all, children’s media is usually at least in part focused on teaching life lessons and providing kids with role-models. That’s why you’ll rarely find an anti-hero protagonist in children’s media. In fact, “protagonist” seems to have sort of been conflated with “good guy.”
Of course, not all media follows these standards. First and foremost, you have to remember that characters aren’t people, they’re literary devices, and they serve a variety of purposes. Some might be role models. Some might be anti-role-models. But honestly, sometimes they literally serve to show “what happens if you put a funny little guy in situations.”
More under the cut.
See, the fiction vs reality debate is interesting in this at. We’re humans, and humans are curious things. Sometimes, humans get morbidly curious and speculate about what might happen in some fucked up situation to some fucked up people. They don’t want any of it to happen in real life, but they still want to have an idea. Literally just because we’re curious.
So what do you do? You make a fucked up little man and put him in situations. He’s not meant to be a good person— honestly good and bad don’t matter here because the story’s not about morals but about cause and effect. Characters can show bad things, they can’t do bad things.
Because humans are curious and like thinking about “what ifs,” sometimes people get really attached to these funny little horrible guys. They like seeing them go through situations and imagining how they’d react. Purely because it’s a fun sequence of cause and effect and way easier than trying to enact it in real life. Now, obviously, stories are influenced by creators’ personal biases, but then that just becomes another dimension to the puzzle. That’s how you get character archetypes who end up telling completely different stories. Sometimes, people really like the way one particular creator has figured out a cause and effect sequence for their archetype. So, people end up with blorbos. Funny little imaginary guys, good and bad, who they just take an incredible, scientific joy in watching. Humans have always been doing science.
And that’s where purity culture comes in. Because, with purity culture, these characters are treated like they’re humans with accountability for their actions. Even though they haven’t hurt any real people. It is, in fact, impossible for a fictional character to hurt people. Even if they are treated as a role model— it’s still the fault of the person who decided to view them that way.
Because characters aren’t intrinsically role models. Even protagonists.
Children’s show creators often make their protagonists to be role models for kids. And in that case, when that’s the stated intent, it’s perfectly reasonable to judge that character’s morals. But you’re not judging a person, any more than evaluating a school textbook for accuracy and correct information would be evaluating a person. You’re evaluating the literary device that is a character. Of course, if you primarily consume children’s media, where many characters are role models and teaching moral lessons is often an intent, what happens when you read something with a different premise? What happens when you read, for example, speculative fiction about what goes on in the mind of a horrific dictator?
If you’re used to judging the worth of characters on a moral rubric, then of course you’ll apply that rubric to protagonists of the new media you read. So naturally, you’ll start thinking that, of course the protagonist of this story is a terrible guy and a horrible role model. What about the people who like him? Well, they must look up to him and agree with him in some way, especially if they’re rooting for him. So of course their morals are in question.
Except, they’re not rooting for him because they agree with him. They’re just rooting for him because they’re invested in seeing where his fucked up actions take him and how it ends up.
Same with relationships. Someone who ships a “problematic” pairing might have absolutely no desire to see any relationship like that in real life, ever. But regardless, it’s a very scientifically, morbidly interesting thing that they can’t take their eyes away from.
Anyway, genre awareness is a great thing to have when consuming media. A romance story isn’t about “what makes a good relationship,” it’s about “what makes an interesting and complex relationship to think about.” A horror story isn’t “what should you do in a fucked up situation,” it’s more of “what might people with these kinds of personalities do instinctively in fucked up situations.”
Genre awareness is cool. You don’t need to think about how good of a role model or representation a character is, so much as you need to think about “what is the purpose of this character in this genre and narrative, and how well are they fulfilling that purpose?”

OP of that music poll was joking but theres ppl in the notes who Arent and even more ppl in the notes who are like "i dont listen to anything past 2014!!" and thats mostly what i was pointing out as Also Weird. like its FINE. if youre enjoying the music like its literally fine like who give a shit. but it is also a little weird. possibly weirder than the op, who was joking, but im sure she also listens to music weird, bc who is fucking listen to music normal??
#toy txt post#define listening to music normal first. and it will reveal the way in which you listen to music Weird probably#and again: ITS FINE. VALUE NEUTRAL USAGE OF WEIRD HERE#the person in the notes posting 'reading comprehension questions' fair enough until you start asking 'what kinda posts is op usually known#for?' you are asking this as if i am intimately aware of op and recognize her url on sight and know exqctly what kind of post to represent.#all i know about her is that she is trans and got her blog nuked unjustly and remade. that doesnt tell me shit?#anyway. you ppl sending fucking hate anons to her and calling her dude are not weird youre just downright rude. chill#one its rude as fuck and you shouldnt do that to ppl. two youre certainly not going to interest her in your favorite songs#if i made a joke poll like that and got that many notes id stop listening to anything older than 2024 out of spite and hatred#they should really make it so you can turn reblogs on polls off#like if youre worried about ppl editing the contents of the poll to make it look like everyone wants to explode infants or something#just make it so the only part of the post you can edit is to turn reblogs off at least like godddamn#i have Normal Reasons for having this opinion. if you look into them i will explode you with my mind(this is a joke but also. do not bring#up the flowers)#joking about the consequences of it. not about not wanting it brought up. if you do that it will simply make me#annoyed and upset :)

I have my wings again <3
Just an update to my last personal post about feeling disconnected from my angelkin identity! I managed to gather the strength to clean the altar off and burn a candle and replace the water, etc. I did some other cleaning as well. And while doing that I started to feel a shift! My wings were back!! Oh I was so excited. I still am! I could tell the Gods were happy I cleaned and that I'm trying again. And that makes me happy to know they're happy! So yes, it really was because I had just started to feel distant from my religious practices. Hopefully I can really get back to where I was and get back into a routine and go further with my practice. I don't want to feel alone and distant like that again. I know I may struggle again and again but as long as I keep trying that's what's important and that's what counts.
I have some ideas for what to do next with my worship and practice so maybe I'll post about that as I go...

With the return of glamourer i can see the exact shade used for G'raha's skintone, and I regret to inform you all that it's aaaaall the way to the left of the row it's in. He is as pale as you can be in that row of skin warmth/undertone. Sadly, the cat is just That Pale.

one thing that really baffles me is - even if you don't believe that like. being trans is "real" or "possible". shouldn't people be alarmed anyway at governments/parties being so determined to ostracize and criminalize like. gender non-conformity? cross-dressing? people with ideological differences from you/from the ruling party? at efforts to censor books just bc you disagree with the content? idk it seems like it's in everyone's best interest, but especially women's, that we don't allow the government to decide how gender should be presented or performed.
