Honestly doing notes has been so difficult right now. I prefer to write them out but it takes long and I can't press ctrl+f to easily find info which is stressful when you need to look through several semesters of notes. On the other hand, when I type out notes I barely remember anything. Would it be better to buy an iPad and write notes there or use scannable paper (whitelines, rocket book, etc) and then use a handwriting recognizing app for either one to find things? Are there other options?
from my experience, goodnotes + the ipad is going to be a better option since handwriting recognition apps and scanning software isn’t as streamlined. also, if you find that typing notes out doesn’t retain the information, you could try using alternative methods of studying such as active recall, flashcards, etc to keep the information in your long-term memory.

note-taking tips and tricks by cardistudy ♡ | part 1: softwares and notebooks
hi friends! welcome to my studyblr. now that exam season for me is just around the corner, i wanted to share some note-taking softwares you can use to take notes! (personally, i prefer to take notes digitally as it is easily editable.)
if you want to find all my note-taking series, you can find it here!
all under the cut, for ease!
i’m gonna start by introducing some softwares that are popular for notetaking. try not to use inbuilt apps like notes, because it isn’t synced to an account and if your computer dies, rip. your notes are gone (this happened to me twice and i hate it)
microsoft onenote - this is a note-taking app that i use a lot. it syncs to your microsoft account, across all your devices. it’s really good and easy to use, and it works really well even offline! evernote - this is also a really good note-taking tool. it syncs to your account as well, but i just don’t like that you can’t use it offline without paying for premium. i’m a broke kid. google keep - if you have a google account, especially for schoolwork etc., this is really good as well! i backup my notes from onenote into keep, so that i have two copies all the time. if not, just create a new account! it’s free, btw. standardnotes - i’ve been planning to try out standardnotes, and it’s a really good option to back up your notes. notes are synced to your account and it’s encrypted with a password only you know, so nobody else can steal your notes. i guess if you take extra classes or are doing really extensive revision, this might be for you. you have to pay for a premium plan, though i don’t really see much need for premium if you’re a student. milanote - this is a sorta graphic design note thingy. you can throw in pictures etc, and it might be good for visual learners. i’m an auditory learner so it doesn’t really help, but it might for you! microsoft whiteboard (microsoft-only) - if you have a pen tool on your whiteboard, or can write excellently with your mouse, i recommend whiteboard. it’s synced to your microsoft account and you can draw mindmaps on it! i use it when i’m in a hurry and need to take down notes urgently in class.
if you’re a more traditional note-taker, and like to use pen and paper, here are some notebook recommendations!
whitelines - i have one of these and trust me, it’s super useful. once you take down your notes, you can scan it on the mobile app to digitalise it! so even if you lose your notebook, you don’t lose your notes. it’s a really hq scan as well. and it only costs around $9 here, so it’s not expensive like *ahem* moleskine leuchtturm1917 - i guess if you’re hardcore studyblr this is for you. i think it’s aesthetic? even though i don’t really see it and def less pricey than a moleskine. but it doesn’t offer the perks of whitelines. and also it’s not as cheap. muji binders and paper - i know this is unconventional but it’s cheap. you can always take out the paper when you mess up (i hate tearing paper from notebooks because i can’t replace them), and you can buy more paper when you need it! obviously other places sell it too, muji is just the cheapest option. campus notebooks - i love campus notebooks bc of how thin they are, and how light they are. i use one notebook per term for each subject, and it works for me!
aight that’s all folks! this was tiring to type. / ily, stay safe, good luck for exams!

Hey there! For me, school and work is starting soon again. After a wonderful roadtrip through France and Luxembourg, reality is creeping up again.
To stay organised, I use repeatedly the same things that I know do work for me. Maybe you’re new to this or just searching for some suggestions, I hope I can give you an idea and help.
Planners
Leuchtturm1917 / 18 month weekly planner and notebook in black A5. – I love this one. Though the ink ghosts a bit, it has the weeks noted on the bottom. A nice space on the side to note things down. Personally, I use this page to brain dump at times too.
Google calendar / Google calendar is a digital planner. I love using this as it gives me access to my planner everywhere. Next to my regular one, I got this one in sync with my laptop and phone.
Notebooks
Leuchtturm1917 dotted notebook medium in army – This notebook I use for creative journaling. I’ve tried to bullet journal, but I soon figured it wasn’t my thing.
Whitelines grey lined grid paper – I love this to take notes on. In my case, it’s much easier on the eyes. Furthermore, you can scan your notes with their app so you have them digitally. The downside is that these notebooks are a bit expensive in my opinion. If you’d like to have a perhaps cheaper option, I believe Oxford makes notebooks with the same option. I love the paper quality of these too!
Pens
Pentel Energel / RTX gel pen 0.5mm needle point in black
Midliner highlighters
Coloured pencils – whatever I find, I have them still left from art school. So mine are from faber castell (a 36 pack) but I wouldn’t rebuy them and rather go for something less expensive.
Tech
Macbook pro – definitely an expensive investment but  in my opinion well worth it. Unlike my experiences with other laptops, this one hasn’t yet slowed down and I have it in my possession for almost two years now.
Microsoft office – I generally love to use these programmes. It’s simple to use and efficient.
Google docs – If I need to take notes for class I usually store them in the cloud. This way I can easily access them and share them with other students if needed.
Spotify – I love making playlists and listening to music. Out of all programmes I used, I prefer spotify. They got some great podcasts too!
Bag
Burkely Valerie Antique Avery – I love this bag, it’s practical for not only work but school as well. It has a separate compartment for your laptop. Once again, a bit pricey, but very durable!
This is my little list, I hope to have inspired you or got you some good recommendations. If you got any questions, please feel free to contact me! Have a nice day 🧡

sweetheart-ninja replied to your photo:
The grid is lighter than the boxes; is this that notebook you can scan into an app to save as text file?
Oh, I have no idea what kind of high tech stuff you’re talking about?? These are just notebooks called “whiteliners” that have white lines rather than black, and I like to use the grid version :)

Things you probably didn't know was invented in Sweden my home country but you probably already knew (Victoria's Boredom Posts #1)
Here are some of the most Swedish things I can think of at the top of my head. Please enjoy
Number 1:
Whitelines
Whitelines is a company established in 2006 by founder Olof Hansson. They make special notebooks with light grey pages and white lines (or dots they also have bullet journals). The purpose is to reduce straining of the eyes. Whatever it is your writing in a Whitelines notebook will pop on the light gray pages. The pages can be scanned and saved on their free app as well. I recently ordered one online and it is amazing.
Not only that but they are used by people all over the world as well.
There are a lot of inspiration posts on their Instagram
Whitelines website
And here is a Ghostbusters spread I did in mine as an example
Tumblr media
Number 2:
The Pacemaker
Yeah, bet you didn't know that the pacemaker is a Swedish innovative miracle. In 1958, Rune Elmqvist developed a small battery-driven pacemaker. The first operation was carried out later that year, but the device only lasted for a few hours and further adjustments were made. The patient, Arne Larsson, survived the tests and lived until 2001.
Number 3: The Global Positioning System aka GPS
Ah yes the GPS. The thing we use to find our way in this crazy world we live in. Remember the days of unfolding a big paper map and following a tiny line with your finger as you tried to figure out if you were even on the right road, all while trying to steer? Or maybe you had a co-pilot who screamed directions at you and flipped out when you took a wrong turn. Those days were thankfully consigned to history when Hokan Lans’s system for GPS became the world standard for shipping and civil aviation – and is the basis for the GPS we use on our phones and everywhere else today.
Number 4:
IKEA
It is a common fact that IKEA is 100% Swedish. Founded by Ingvar Kamprad in 1943 (He was only 17 at the time!!!!) the furniture conglomerate grew to have over 445 stores worldwide and the most fun thing. No matter what IKEA store you're in in the world. All the products still have their names in Swedish and it is fun listening to tourists and non-Swedes trying to read the names.
Number 5:
Skype
Worrying about the costs of long-distance phone calls was suddenly over when Sweden’s Niklas Zennström co-developed Skype. The invention coincided with higher-speed Internet connections, which helped the company take off. Businesses saw the value in video conferencing and Grandma realized she didn’t have to empty her pension account just to have a chat with her favorite grandchild. Skype was sold to Microsoft in 2011 (for $8.5 billion USD) so next time Skype falters or cuts you off completely, don’t blame the Swedes.
Number 6:
Celsius Temperature Scale
Only five countries in the world have yet to adopt the Celsius temperature scale, which was developed by Swedish mathematician and astronomer Anders Celsius. Celsius had already made huge contributions to the field of astronomy with his observations of planetary orbits and eclipses, but it was his new thermometer, which measured the 100 degrees between freezing and boiling, that really made his name. Literally.
And that was it for the first post of Victoria's Boredom Posts (title is a work in progress)

Product Review: This year I started using Whitelines notebooks as I’ve seen and heard so much about them. Deciding to take the leap and getting two of their grid notebooks for my science classes has left me with no regrets. The grid notebook is perfect for allowing me to control the neatness of my hand writing and is the perfect size as I prefer writing small and with fine liners. This notebook also allows me to fit two pages worth of notes Into one due to the size of the lines. Ultimately what makes Whitelines unique is the fact that your notes can be scanned onto your phone by taking a picture. But when you use their app it remove the lines. This makes its easy to visualise any diagrams and notes on the go. Their slogan is “dark lines distract, Whitelines don’t” and I never thought much about the colour of my notebook lines. But after using these notebooks for a solid 6 months, I can say that their slogan is an accurate representation. Overall the quality of the notebook is amazing and the features that come with it are too.

WHITELINES NOTEBOOK REVIEW
Hello everyone!! Today I will be reviewing the Whitelines Hard Cover A5 Notebook (grid) :) The review will be below the cut, and I hope you will find this review helpful as well as some interest in these notebooks!!
Disclaimer: I was sent this notebook in exchange for an honest review, these are my personal opinions.
Whitelines is a paper and notebook company based in Stockholm, Sweden, founded by three friends in January 2006. They sell mainly notebooks and paper in which the lines are white instead of the usual black!! I received this in the mail very recently and have been able to use this notebook for some of my notes for school!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I honestly really love the idea of white lines instead of the black as it says on their website, the markings from pens are dark and interfere with the traditional dark lines of ordinary paper. There is no interference between the lines and the pen colour with the Whitelines paper and so your work will stand out which I really appreciate. The paper quality and the notebook itself is very good quality; a hard cardboard front and back, spiral spine and thick paper which means that nothing will go through the page.
Tumblr media
The pages are 100gsm thick and a sketchbook is usually around 110gsm thick so the paper quality is very good! Due to having white lines, the actual paper itself is grey which is quite unique for a notebook. At the back of the notebook, there is a pocket where you can keep some loose sheets and notes!
Tumblr media
In addition, you can scan your notes that you have written in the Whitelines notebook using their app Whitelines Link [ ios | android ] To be honest it did not scan all of my notes properly (probably because my handwriting is small and I used a yellow pen for some parts, as you can see down below!) I don’t think I will be scanning my notes anyway but it may be useful for you.
Tumblr media
To sum up, I really like this notebook as it is of great quality and the idea is very creative and innovative. I would like to thank Whitelines for giving me the opportunity to try out one of your notebooks and review it as I have been really enjoying using it for my notes!

Thank you for reading this review, I hope this helped some of you if you were interested!

Tea and trigonometry are 2 of my favourite things 🌸💕🔮 . . . QOTD: What notebooks do you use to bujo/make notes/etc? I use @whitelinespaper for my written up notes. I have specific notebooks for each module and use the coloured tags in the app to keep them all separate when I scan them (it's a godsend for an organisation nut like me 😉) 🐇🍥⏳ . . . #studygram #studyblr #studygramcommunity #notes #studyspo #studyinspo #maths #university #mildliner #pentelsignpen #whitelines #whitelinespaper #calligraphy #aesthetic #productivity #studytips #organize #organisation #lifestyle #pink #students #studynotes #qmul #study #student #undergraduate #bujo #planner #studentnotes #zebrapen (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrIz4l_gANP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=15krnc2yeyju6

To the fam leader who said she uses white lines notebooks. Are they actually good? What do you like about them?
Hi there,
So firstly, I got whitelines because they make my notes look pretty. It’s true when they say that whitelines don’t distract you whilst black or blue lines do. This means that not only do my notes look good but the contents of my notes stand out making it easier to revise. Recently, I also found out that they’re an amazing productivity tool! The notebooks have an app called ‘whitelines link’ which scans your notes and saves it on your phone. You can email them, save them to evernote or access them on your computer. I find this allows me to look over my notes wherever I am without having to carry the notebook around. It’s super convenient!
They are a little expensive although if I reccomend them if you want to carry notes around easily and like to make them look pretty.
Love,
FAM xx.

peanut butter sandwich!
peanut butter sandwich; favorite notebook brand?
i think i usually buy Five Star or Mead college ruled spiral notebooks with a poly cover (so they don’t tear in my bag). i’d love to get some from Whitelines but can’t really justify the $15/notebook expense. they’re those cool ones that scan into an app!

Whitelines Link Review
Tumblr media
Strolling through my local Officeworks checking out the journals and notebooks, I found this little gem from Whitelines Link that caught my eye. Sure, the bright orange (is far brighter than above) helps capture your attention, but once I got closer and had a read, that’s when my interest was piqued.
This is the first lined notebook I’ve seen that has digital applications So, with the little extra cash I had in my pocket, I bought this bad boy and spent the rest of the car trip home trying to work out how to hide it from my wife.
So who is Whitelines?
According to their site, the company was founded back in 2006, in Stokholm, by three friends with one ambition; to make a contribution to a better world, no matter how small. But it’s the insight that lead to the creation of this product I liked most.
In an interview on their site, one of the founders, Olof Hansson, states: “ I was doing sketches and made photocopies of Sinko* when I got annoyed by the dark lines disturbing my sketch. I realized that this was a familiar but annoying insight.”
So, now to the book itself...
The book I’m reviewing is the A5 Spiral Notebook, priced at around AUD$8.00.
Here are the specs:
Lined A5, 7mm
140 pages
80 GSM
Once you get the book you will need to download the app from either the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Android), which is free. Then simply create and scan.
I’ve comprised three different tests to see how this notebook handles, and they are:
1) Light drawing
2) Medium drawing with heavy areas
3) ‘To Do List’
Exciting, right? It’s extreme notebook testing for stationery lovers. So here goes.
Test 1
Tumblr media
OK, so I’m not the best artist and stick figures are at the very top of my skill set. Anyway, as you can see, it is simply black lines from an Artline 200 pen. The only areas of concern are the eyes and nose where I have coloured in ‘Happy Pig’ (a character I created for my daughter). Now all I have to do is use the app and scan in the picture.
First you will need to open the app, if you have downloaded it already, and select the camera in the bottom corner of the screen. If you look at the above image, you should be able to make out squares in each of the corners. These corners need to all be ‘in-frame’ in order for the image to be captured.
After some navigating, this was the best image that I was able to get from it:
Tumblr media
Not bad actually. I did take a few pictures to begin with because there were plenty of black marks on the digital image. I thought these were the results of the app itself, like moving the camera, but found shadows also hindered the picture quality.
For any hardcore writers and sketchers out there, the biggest concern is always ‘bleed-through’. There’s nothing worse than shelling out money for a 140 page book and finding out you may only be able to use 70 pages at maximum. Unfortunately, as you can see below, this is where the book let me down.
Tumblr media
**Please note that, although not shown, the page opposite also has marks from the eyes and nose area. So in effect, if you are that pedantic, you lose two pages if you draw on one.
Test 2
In this test I have drawn an image that is mostly light but has a couple of heavy areas. For this test I have used a Sharpie ‘No Bleed’ felt tip pen. After using the Artline 200 for the previous test, I didn’t want to waste any more pages and so tried to play it safe. Below are the results...
Tumblr media
The scan...
Tumblr media
The bleed through...
Tumblr media
Test 3
This one was a very simple test; create a list, for no other reason than I was not able to draw anything else.
Tumblr media
The Scan...
Tumblr media
...this image had a lot of shadow when taking the picture. Which is why it looks like a bad photocopy job.
As this was a simple writing job, there was no bleed-through on the back of the page.
So overall, this book is not bad. The ability to draw and then take a picture that looks like a clean scan, and email it to whoever you need, is a great feature. It makes it easy to scamp an idea and send it to your client or colleague. But there is not much else that differentiates this from other notebooks.
The biggest problem with this book is the bleed-through. At $8.00 for 140 pages, you don’t want to be wasting them.
If there is ever an update to the app, I would love to see the ability to turn handwriting in to digital, editable text, which would be great for straight note taking. You could write it all down in point form or just continuous text, and the app would save it as a digital file that could be opened in Word (or a similar app/program) and edited later.
If you have used this product, please leave your opinion/comments below.
