`✦ ˑ ִֶ 𓂃⊹ ohhhhhh my gosh anon i was literally SO SO HAPPY to get this ask!!! decided to stick with the usual charas you guys enjoy, plus some falin!!! hope this turned out okay and thank you so much for having me write it for you!!! <333
Tumblr media
— DUNMESHI BEACH DAY HCS.
꒰ charas: ꒱ laios, chilchuck, falin, & mickbell.
꒰ warnings: ꒱ none! sfw + fluff with gn!reader.
꒰ wc: ꒱ 1.4k
✦ hope this turned out okay!! it was such a cute idea and so much fun that if anyone has requests for more charas, i’d be more than happy to do it!! <33
Tumblr media Tumblr media
— LAIOS:
✦ We know that he doesn’t do well in hot weather, so you can imagine he’d be sporting only swimsuit trunks and flip flops for sure.
✦ Definitely enjoys being in the ocean, especially to try and cool off. You can imagine he’d be really interested in knowing more about what’s in the water around him, and probably points things out to you that he finds interesting.
✦ Be prepared for him to burn really fast, so make sure he gets plenty of sunscreen!! It’s always cute to see him walk up to you and ask for help, in which you gladly oblige. You help get those spots he can’t reach, and he does appreciate just how thorough you are.
✦ You’ll probably end up splashing him, which he’ll return in kind. Be careful what you start, because you’ll end up drenched by the end of it!
✦ A picnic on the beach with him is definitely something that happens while you’re there. Laios is so excited to share a meal with you in such a beautiful setting, and finds himself giving you that goofy grin at just how happy he is. He makes sure to pull all the stops to make this enjoyable for you, even preparing your favorite snacks.
✦ Definitely goes home with a few shells or shark teeth, if he found any. Laios thinks they’re too cool not to pick up and examine, running over to you and showing you what he found in the sand.
“You won’t believe what I found!” Laios calls out to you, jogging over to where you sat on your towel. His hands cradled something, and as he stretched his arms out to show you, a smile grew on your lips.
In his hands was an almost perfect conch shell, something he held with pride and excitement. His smile matching yours, he said your name softly. “Do you think if you put it up to your ear, you’d hear the ocean like those stories?”
You shrugged your shoulders, not able to hold back the giggle at his glee. “Only one way to find out, right? Just make sure there’s nothing still living in it.”
Laios still keeps that shell in a safe place, wanting to remember the day you spent together.

— CHILCHUCK:
✦ This man is definitely showing up in a Hawaiian dad shirt and cargo shorts. The first few buttons are undone, and he has a pair of sandals on that he insists he only saves for days like this.
✦ Chilchuck plans on staying at the spot you claimed with towels and an umbrella, a drink in hand. He’s definitely enjoying the sight of you in a swimsuit and the breeze ruffling your hair, but he’d never admit that.
✦ You try to pull him towards the water, but you only manage to get his feet wet. Chil tells you this is as far as he’ll go, but that disappointed pout on your face makes his heart race a bit. Ok, fine… Maybe he’ll go up to his knees for you…
✦ Probably spends most of his time drinking and relaxing, a hand behind his head and alcohol in the other. Very dad-like of him, you muse, which causes his face to heat up and grumbles to leave him.
✦ Ends up falling asleep, the sound of the waves and the secluded shade from the sun causing his eyes to flutter shut. You can’t help but laugh a little, returning from your time in the water to study his sleeping form. He looks so peaceful like this, and you don’t have the heart to wake him up…
✦ If you do somehow manage to get him fully in the water, be prepared for him to get targeted by the tide. Maybe you even suggest getting him a float, which he gives you that blank stare in reply.
“There, that’s not so bad, is it?” You say as he finds himself in the middle of a tube float, eyes narrowed towards you.
“This makes me feel like a kid.” Chilchuck complains, yet you see him grip onto it tighter as an incoming wave makes an appearance.
You pull it over to you, the inflatable bumping into your stomach as you give him that teasing grin. “Guess you’re stuck with me while we’re out here, huh?”
The half-foot groans, debating on whether or not he’d make it if he tried to swim back to shore right now.
Tumblr media
— FALIN:
✦ Wears a light t-shirt and shorts, opting to be comfy! She also has a hat she wears to help keep the sun out of her eyes. If she did plan on swimming, I like to imagine she’d have a swim shirt and a one piece swimsuit!
✦ Like her brother, she was excited to see all the shells and creatures at the beach, bringing you things she found fascinating. You might even find her entranced with a sand dollar and stating how pretty it is.
✦ Walks into the water hand in hand with you, but also really enjoys walking along the sand near the shore. As the sun sets, she intertwines her fingers with yours, leading you along and watching the pinks and blues in the sky reflect on the waves.
✦ Also definitely goes on a picnic with you, the beach making her cheeks even more rosy than usual. You can’t help but tell her how cute she looks in her outfit, her hair loosely blowing in the breeze. Falin would give you a sweet smile, the same one you fell in love with.
✦ Don’t be surprised if she leads you back to the water after you make sure she’s not getting burnt, insisting that she wants to enjoy how cool the waves feel. You’re more than happy to walk out a little deeper with her, noticing how she still keeps your hand in her own.
“It’s so nice out here…” You heard her mutter, a content smile dimpling her cheeks. The sunset left a sweet gradient in her hair, something that made you unable to look away.
“It really is. Too bad it’s getting dark,” you reply, a little disappointed that the day is already over. Falin squeezed your hand, pulling you away from your thoughts.
“Maybe we should stay and watch the stars come out.” Her voice was so gentle, causing you to give her a grin of your own.
“Let’s stay a little longer.”
Tumblr media
— MICKBELL:
✦ Like the official art we have of him swimming with Kuro, he’s definitely sporting a pair of swim trunks and flip flops, with his hair in his signature ponytail.
✦ He and Kuro are so excited to swim, and drag you along to the water as soon as you get there. Of course, Mick is either clinging to you or to Kuro when in the waves, not seeking to really swim on his own.
✦ You definitely enjoy watching them swim and play around more than you’d like to admit, especially with Mick hiding his face and complaining when Kuro decides to shake all the water out of his coat.
✦ Mick really likes finding shells he thinks look neat, and showing them off to you and Kuro proudly. Maybe you even find yourself building a sand castle, with him and his buddy watching closely and moving to help you. He’s in charge of decorating it, while you’re in charge of building it! Kuro helps dig up some of the sand to use.
✦ The three of you end up getting a sweet treat, cooling off in the shade and enjoying the time spent together. Knowing Mickbell, he’s going to lay his head in your lap as he rests after so much activity, looking up at you with that cheeky grin he usually has.
“I could get used to this!” Mickbell sighs, nuzzling into your lap as he makes himself comfortable. Kuro is watching the waves, sitting beside you as the sun begins to fade from the horizon.
“I would’ve thought you’d be ready to go home a lot sooner.” You teased him, brushing his messy bangs out of his face. Scoffing, he made sure you saw as he rolled his eyes.
“If I didn’t have you and Kuro, maybe… But this is something we’ll have to do again. Right, Kuro?” The Kobold nodded, causing a warm grin to spread on your face. He was certainly right about that.

Le coup de foudre ; Gambit x Reader
summary: THIS IS PART 3 OF THE TACO TUESDAY SERIES! PART ONE HERE / PART TWO HERE! Reader is suffering, big time. She wants Remy, but he hasn't called. Post-Void, everyone got out alive and everything is fine.
word count & w a r n i n g s: 3.1K | some angst to start things off, smut with some plot (we've got an established relationship, huzzah), French and typing out accents/dialects, pet names (chere, mon ami, mon coeur, etc.), shower sex, dirty talk, fingering, unprotected sex, p in v, no use of y/n, and some fluff at the end, because I went and broke y'all's hearts in the last chapter.
a/n: praying that the gambit fandom hasn't completely died out.... i'm so sorry this took me so long. banner by @/strangergraphics!
↓ full fic under cut! ↓ / ao3 link here! / I don’t have a taglist anymore, but please turn on post notifications if you’d like to be notified of future fics!
The first day is the hardest.
The first day is the hardest because by 1:30 PM, you realize that you’re in love with Remy Lebeau. You cry on the couch he kissed you on. Why are you crying? Because you can’t remember the last time you’ve been in love with someone, and you know what comes with love. None of it is good.
The second day sucks too because you go to work, and come home to an apartment that, for the first time since you’ve lived there, really felt empty. There’s nowhere you can sit that he hasn’t touched. His memory lingers everywhere and try as you might, you can’t escape it. You aren’t sure you want to, either, which is troubling in and of itself.
By the third day, your heart is aching, but it’s a dull ache. Something like anger has started to roil in your system, and you’re wondering why he hasn’t called, or stopped by. You can justify it by saying that you don’t know what mutant superheroes go through or what their daily life looks like, but you’re still sour that there’s been nothing but radio silence on his end.
Day four comes and goes, and nothing changes. You’re still sad. You’re still angry. But most of all, you’re still lonely.
Day five… however. Day five comes, you’ve cycled through all the stages of grief and landed somewhere on the spectrum of desperation.
So, after work, you march across the hall to Wade’s, and knock three times in a little melody. After a few moments, the door flies open, revealing a very casual looking Wade. He’s wearing a Hawaiian shirt and grey sweats. You avert your eyes from his groin, out of respect.
“Wade,” you stammer, scratching a non-existent itch on your arm. “Hey.”
“Pookie! How nice of you to stop by. Blind Al and I were just about to partake in some Colombian party powder, care to join us?”
Your pupils dilate. Was he being serious? You couldn’t tell. “Uh… no. No, I’m good.”
You shift uneasily. You aren’t sure how to start this, so you just blurt whatever comes out.
“Wade… um. Look, I’m sorry to ask this of you. I just…. I can’t take it anymore. He doesn’t seem like the type to ghost someone, and I just… I really want to talk to him.”
“You want Gambit’s number?”
You perk up, relieved that you didn’t have to ask the question yourself. Wade was more perceptive than you thought.
“Y-yeah, if you have it.”
“I don’t. Womp-womp. But I gave him yours.”
“Oh…” A beat. “...wait. How did you get my number?”
“Remember that package that was misdelivered?”
“No….”
“Yikes. Well, I do. It had your name and phone number on it. I figured it’d be useful to have so…” He taps the side of his head.
“Why did you… did he ask for it?”
“Boy, did he.”
You frown, feeling an overwhelming flurry of emotions. On one hand, he’s had your number and hasn’t called. On the other hand, he wanted your number. But he hadn’t done a damn thing with it. Your shoulders sink, unconsciously.
“Oh, sweet cheeks. Someone play some Cigarettes After Sex, this is getting emotional.” Wade mock frowns, looking off to the left for a moment before his eyes dart back to you. “He’s probably saving lives or something heroic. Undisclosed mutant drama.”
“Thanks,” you murmur, choosing to ignore his weird commentary. “I appreciate it.”
“What’re you gonna’ do now? Cue the depressed drinking montage.”
“That’s a great idea, actually…”
“No, no… let’s not.”
You interject with a finger in his face. “Yeah, let’s.”
“If you’re going to do that, let’s do it inside. C’mon.”  Wade doesn’t give you a moment to reject him, and plants both of his hands on your shoulders, yanking you forward.
Turns out, Wade does have alcohol. He makes you a drink, something that tastes like whiskey. Maybe it's your whiskey, left over. You bring the glass to your lips, sucking the liquid down. It’s strong, but you aren’t complaining.
“Oooohohoh, you’ve got it bad, huh? Heart eyes and all that mushy-gushy shit?”
You throw a glare his way, and take another sip. The liquor burns better than any remark you could’ve come up with.
“It’s okay,” he says, nodding. “I can’t say I blame you. It’s that Southern charm he’s got. Handsome, slick, and he can do magic tricks.” His eyes widen, excitedly. “How could you not fall in love with him?”
“Wade, you’re not helping.”
“Sure I am,” he retorts.
You take a seat on Wade’s couch, looking distraught. You’re thankful that Blind Al is in fact… blind because she can’t see the way that the tears are welling up in your eyes. You look at the chairs that you two sat on, flirting with each other.
“Oh,” Wade says, looking somewhat surprised. “Oh no.”
“She cryin’?” Blind Al asks. Great, she’s perceptive. You swallow back a sob, and bring the glass to your lips again.
“Almost… almost… c’mon, give us a cinematic, single tear.”
You shake your head and suck it up as best you can. You don’t want acknowledgement, that’ll only make it worse, possibly sending you into a fit of sobs. You don’t even know why you’re so upset – it’s not like he told you he never wanted to see you again. He just hadn’t… well, done anything and that was somehow worse.
“Je-sus…!” Wade says suddenly, leaning over to angrily look through the peephole. He stays there for a moment, before leaning back, a sly smile on his face.
And that’s when you hear the dull thudding that has Wade’s attention. It sounds like a knock – a heavy handed one.
You straighten your spine, curious.
“Oh, this is too perfect.” He says under his breath, before taking one step towards you. “Save the waterworks, your Cajun Prince has returned.”
You set the glass on the floor and scramble off the couch, practically on all fours as you run towards the door, pushing Wade out of the way. Standing on your tiptoes to look through the peephole for only a split second, you get a visual. Hurriedly, you twist the knob and throw the door open, wanting to rip it off its hinges. It bumps into the wall behind it, and your breath rushes out.
Remy stands there, facing your door, his fist raised to knock again. He has a duffel bag on his shoulder, which slides off the second he hears your voice.
“Remy?” you call, your voice quivering slightly. He turns abruptly, his coat flaring out behind him. He’s wearing armor now, and looks like he’s just come back from something serious.
“Chere? What’re you –”
You don’t need to answer again, instead, just run across the hall, rushing into his arms. Your body hits him so hard that you let out a little vocalization, a delicate oomph, as you compress yourself to him. He immediately responds by wrapping one arm around your waist, and the other around the back of your head, hand petting your hair gently.
He smells like blood, sweat and ash, but you nuzzle your cheek into the rigid plate of his purple chestplate anyway, wrapping your arms tightly around his torso in a desperate hug.
After a moment, you pull away, just enough to look up at him. He looks down at you, his eyes burning with such an adoration that you can’t help but clench your stomach. He looks like he missed you as much as you missed him.
“Is this your superhero outfit?” Your fingers stroke the ridges in his cowl, admiring it. Slowly, they trail down the length of it, and begin to make their way over his smooth chestplate.
He laughs, looking down at you. “ ‘Spose so.”
“I like it.”
Two smiles later, he pulls you in for a bruising kiss, lifting you up off the ground slightly. You’re on your tiptoes again, smashing your lips against his and tasting him as hungrily as you did the first time – if not hungrier. There’s something extremely erotic about kissing a costumed hero, something to do with uniforms and all that, you assume, but the butterflies in your stomach go wild at the feeling of his armor against you. This time, you don’t try to suppress anything and give into the feeling of it all.
Someone sighs dreamily behind you and Remy breaks the kiss to look knowingly over the top of your head. Wade is leaning against his door frame, hands clasped in front of his chest. Short of having hearts bursting over his head, he’s silently gushing, his brows pulled together in a sappy expression, with a dorky smile curling around his lips.
“Oh, c’mon! Just a peek? Where’s your sense of fan service?!”
“No, Wade.” Remy croons, opening your door and pulling you in with him. He shuts the door with one hand.
“Now before we get to the good stuff, I wanna’ wash this day offa’ me.”
You nod your head, understanding, and reach for his hand. The bathroom is adjacent to your bedroom, so you lead him down the hall.
You flick on the light; it’s all dark tile and cool tones. You head to the sizable shower, and open the glass door, leaning in just enough to turn the knob. The water splashes to life, and steam fills the bathroom quickly.
Watching Remy undress himself is like a strip tease that has you biting your lip. He’s determinate and meticulous, like he knows you’re watching. The jacket and armor pieces come off first, and get set on the edge of the bathroom counter. Then comes the shirt, revealing that delicious torso again, the one that you’ve been longing to run your hands over for almost a week. He quickly unzips his pants and drags them down his legs before setting them atop the rest of the items. The briefs are last – the perfect ending to reveal his heavy, flaccid cock before he turns, and walks into the shower. He’s got a perfect ass, too; muscular and round. You’re pretty sure you could bounce a quarter off of it. The water splashes against the roundness of his freckled shoulders, spattering against the muscle and onto the tile.
“Chere, c’mere…” He reaches for your hand, pulling it inside the shower.
“Wait, wait,” you laugh, and retract your hand. “I’m not coming in there fully dressed.”
“Then get naked, mon amour. We know we done been waitin’ long enough to feel each other again.”
You pull your shirt over your head, and reach around back to undo your bra. Your jean shorts are next, joining the pile on the floor.
The water is warm, but Remy’s naked body is even warmer.
There’s a beautiful, tender familiarity in the way you touch each other, coupled with a hunger that can only be fueled by absence. He hasn’t had you in days, you haven’t had him; the desire has reached a boiling point, and needs to be expelled. He presses you against the tile of the shower, watching as the water pitter-patters against your skin, over your decollete, over your breasts and down the gentle curve of your stomach. He leans down and kisses the hollow of your throat, his hands cupping your hips forcefully.
“I missed you,” he murmurs against your skin.
“I missed you too… maybe more.”
“Ooh, doubt that.”
As his fingers trail along your body with an air of ownership, Remy kisses your wet shoulders, nipping at the warm, slick flesh. Despite the heat, you shiver. He has a real knack for making your body shudder. Your knees feel like jell-o, so you wrap your hands around his strong neck, interlacing your fingers behind it for some support.
His fingers dip down between your legs and teasingly splay out over your folds. His middle finger slips between them, glossing over your center, and slides all the way down, teasing your entrance with the pad of his finger. Everything is wet, but he can feel the slickness that meets his finger. His cock twitches against your thigh.
“‘Dat’s my girl,” he says, low. “Y’know, I’ve been thinkin’ ‘bout ‘dis way too much.” His hand cups your cunt, as if to punctuate his sentence and you bite your lip, looking into his eyes. You shift, forcing more friction against his wet palm, the warm water pooling between your legs. “The thought of you been distractin’ me. You a dangerous woman, cher…”
“I’m dangerous? Says the guy who has fucked me in every room, on almost every surface in my apartment…”
Remy chuckles and the sound fills your heart. There it is again – that unyielding feeling of adoration. You’re horny as all get out, but somehow, you still have the capacity to swoon over tiny things like his laugh. This isn’t you, this isn’t what you’re used to. Frustrated, you bump your head against the tile, letting out a small groan.
He notices this, and brings his other hand – still leaving one situated between your legs – up behind your head.
“What’re you doin’? What’s wrong, chere?”
“Nothing...” you huff, looking over at the shower head. It doesn’t sound very convincing, but you aren’t ready to spill your guts to him yet… you’d rather have him rearrange your guts and not think about the feelings.
He smirks, devilishly, like he already knows. If he does, he’s not letting you off the hook.
“Guess I just gon’ have to fuck it outta’ you, huh?”
You avert your gaze back to him, pupils dilating. You know him well enough now that he means what says.
With that, he places a kiss on your forehead, and turns his body towards the stream of water. He begins washing himself, and you watch as the suds slowly trail down the ample curve of his back. You reach forward, spreading them over the indentation of his spine, washing him gently.
“Hoo, the way you touch me…” he murmurs just loud enough for you to hear it.
The shower is intimate and everything is mutual, cue the montage. For the… what? Tenth time that week? You realize that you're in way too deep with Remy. Way too deep, and there’s nothing you can do to change it.
Drying his feet off on the mat and allowing you space to do the same, Gambit then pulls a towel from the rack, and wraps it around your naked body. The droplets absorb into the fibers, and you’re a little less drippy. Well, your body is. The hungry, whining void between your legs isn’t.
When Gambit turns, you catch a glimpse of his half-hard cock and blush. Even though you’ve fucked it, sucked it and everything else, the sight of is still enough to send butterflies erupting in your stomach.
He can’t get you to the bedroom fast enough. His hands are on your hips, directing you towards the bed and you let out a little vocalization, much to his delight.
“C’mere, mon ami… get up on ‘dat bed.”
You obey. Why wouldn’t you? You’ve been waiting for this for almost a week now.
Before he has a chance to stop you, you’re reaching forward to take his cock in your hand. It’s heavy and hot and the feeling of it against your palm makes you clench painfully, twinging with heat. You take your time in stroking him to full hardness, swiping your thumb over the leaking tip and smearing the pre-cum down his veiny length.
Once he’s there, he’s like a freight train. Unstoppable and panting hard. He fucks you hard over the edge of the bed, hard enough to make your breasts bounce back and forth with each bullying thrust, withdrawing it to the tip and bottoming out each time. Your bedroom is filled with the sounds of bodies slapping together, flesh against flesh.
“Tell me,” he grunts. “Ain’t no place for secrets up in here.”
“It’s not important – uuhhh!” Another thrust, deep as he can go.
“Cher,” he growls and thrusts again. “I ain’t gonna’ let you cum ‘till you tell me.”
“No,” you moan, bringing your hands to your tits as they move. “Please, I’m so close, we can — uhhh god!”
He’s relentless.
“Fuck, fuck-fuck, oh my god…!”
With a slick pop, he pulls his cock all the way out. You lift your head up, gazing distraught between your legs; he’s centimeters away from you. The tip is red, glistening and angry as it twitches up, pre-cum leaking from the slit.
“Tell me, cher, or you ain’t gonna’ get ‘dis cock again.” He bucks his hips forward, dragging the fat, wet tip against your swollen cunt. You cry out at the sensation, your clit buzzing with electricity. Despite all that, he doesn’t penetrate you again, and you whimper at the empty sensation. Every time you try to move your hips to get his cock to slip in again, he pulls back just enough to put distance between you two. You whine through gritted teeth.
“Okay!”
He presses the head of his cock against your clit. Waiting. Patiently. So patiently. For a moment, you marvel at the control he has considering that his cock looks red and angry, aching to empty itself inside of you.
“Fine. I think…” You pause to catch your breath. “I think I love you.”
Remy closes his eyes for a second, reveling in the sound of you saying it. He’d wanted to say it to you at breakfast, and he’d wanted to say it before he left.
“Mm.”
“Mm?”
“Mmm-mm. ‘Dat’s what I wanted to hear, chere. An’ it sounds so good comin’ outta’ ‘dat mouth of yours.”
He lines the cockhead up, and bottoms out with another word. He’s said enough, apparently. When he takes hold of your hips, lifting them up slightly to give himself a deeper angle, you wrap your hands around your sheets until the fibers squeak. Your nails dig into the fabric, nearly puncturing holes in them. It’s only a few more earth-shattering thrusts before you cum, and before he fills you with white hot heat, the two of you calling and moaning each other’s names in ecstasy.
After softening inside of you, which is somehow extremely sweet, he withdraws himself from your cunt, and uses the sheet to clean up the mess that leaks out. He carefully lifts you up onto the bed fully, and then crawls next to you, nestling into the same space he did last night.
It’s like he never left.
“I really do, you know. I love you. I know we just met and fucked and that’s all, but I love you.”
“You keep sayin’ ‘dat’s all’ as if what we have is somethin’ casual, cher. You’re gonna’ hurt Remy’s feelings if you keep ‘dat up. So, knock it off, ah?”
“It’s… it’s not casual?”
He shakes his head. “I love you too, mon coeur. I have since I first saw you…”
You hum happily, and nuzzle yourself against his bare chest. “I finally understand that French phrase I learned… C’etait le coup de foudre?” (It was love at first sight.)
“Oui… oui.”

bradley bradshaw x fem!reader — you’re worried about what bradley will think of your new haircut.
mutual pining, pre-relationship, fluff (very self indulgent since I got my hair cut this week xoxo)
You were feeling good about your new haircut yesterday, when it was freshly cut and styled and so super soft. Today is different. You know you look different and you can help but think different is bad.
You rake a hand through your short hair. “Does my hair look bad?”
Natasha and Bob both give you twin looks of incredulity. It’s not the first time you’ve asked it tonight. They’ve brought you along to the Hard Deck for a night of drinks with their friends and you can’t stop fussing over your hair. You won’t admit to them it’s because you’re harbouring a massive crush on one of their squad members and you’re worried he’ll think you look awful.
“It looks fine,” Natasha tells you, again, not for the first time. “You look pretty. Right, Bob?”
Bob hums, tapping his fingers on the wooden tabletop. “You look great, Y/N.” He gives you a look from behind his glasses. Confusion, a bit of suspicion. “Why are you worrying so much, anyway?”
Your heart stutters. “I’m not—“
“Phoenix, Bob!” Jake Seresin appears seemingly out of nowhere, sidling up to your table with all the charm of a prince. His eyes land on you and your new hair and he grins. “And Y/N. Looking good, sugar.”
He winks at you. He’s a huge flirt and you’d definitely be into him if it weren’t for another certain aviator.
You smile at him. “Thanks, Jake.”
The others, Payback and Fanboy, file in behind him. They both notice and compliment your hair, which is a good sign. Still, you know who’s coming next and you can’t help but curl in on yourself, taking a sip of your drink so you don’t have to see him as he approaches.
“Hey, guys!” Bradley Bradshaw appears, stupid Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses, moustache, golden skin and all. He’s tucking his glasses into his shirt so he doesn’t see you at first. “Hey— woah, Y/N.”
He stops short when he sees you. You lower your drink slowly, heart in your throat. Your knee bounces underneath the table.
“Hi, Bradley,” you say.
Bradley blinks. Blinks again. “Hi. Hey. I— you cut your hair.”
He says it like he’s never heard of a haircut before. You smile unsurely.
“I did,” you say, pushing a lock behind your ear as if that will help your case. “Is it bad?”
“Bad? No, it’s— it really suits you,” he says. If you’re not mistaken, he’s stuttering. Not only that, but unless you’re imagining it, he’s blushing. He stares at you, completely unaware of anything or anyone else, golden cheeks tinged pink. “You look really pretty.”
Your turn to blush. Heat flares behind your cheeks, burning into your smile. Pretty, he called you. “Thanks, Brad.”
Bradley seems to come back into himself, a lopsided grin creeping onto his face. He shoves his hands into his jeans pockets and smiles at you. “Hey, you’re welcome. Just tell me next time so I don’t have a heart attack, okay?”
What’s that supposed to mean? You open your mouth to say something, you don’t know what, but Jake’s southern drawl interrupts you.
“Bradshaw!” Both you and Bradley turn to see Jake at the pool table with the rest of the boys. “Stop flirting with Y/N and get over here so I can beat you. Again.”
Bradley rolls his eyes. “He’s lying, I won last week. I’ll be back, okay? Don’t go anywhere.”
You weren’t planning to. He flashes you a dazzling smile and then you watch him go, your heart thrumming with the sort of electricity you can’t ignore. You think you might burst. He’d called you pretty, said you’d given him a heart attack. You feel like your own heart’s about to give out, too.
Across the table, Bradley now well out of earshot, Natasha wiggles her eyebrows at you.
“Oh,” she says slyly. “Now I get why you were so worried about your hair.”
You groan and bury your burning face in your drink again. “Please shut up, Nat.”
You have a feeling she won’t.

Another fucking night working ridiculously late but you have the weekend off and nothing is going to stop you from turning every phone and computer, email account and messaging app you have off for the entire span of time you finally have to yourself.
Well…yourself and Billy. You hope. You always help the boys out when you can, but you kept your regular job as well, because what you do means so much to you and you can’t give it up. Even if sometimes it feels like it’s killing your soul. But you refuse to think about any of that for the next 58 hours.
Billy’s promised to meet you when you get off and sure enough when you push through the big glass doors of your building, you can see his tall silhouette standing in the darkness by the corner. It doesn’t even matter you can’t quite make out his face from here. You would know that muscled, broad shouldered physique anywhere.
“Hey…” you murmur, as you approach, looking up at him. “Thanks for picking me up tonight.”
“Well it’s fuckin’ late and I don’t want you wandering the streets in the middle of the night by yourself, do I?”
You roll your eyes, but your heart swells for a beat. It’s not like you haven’t done it a hundred other times but when he gets all protective and possessive of you…it really fucking turns you on.
“Where’s your fuckin’ coat?” he asks, his brow furrowing as he looks you over head to toe.
“I was in a hurry this morning, and anyway it was warm today.” You glance up at the sky, just now realizing the clouds have rolled in and you never noticed.
“Fer fuck’s sake, doll, it’s ‘spose to storm,” he frowns but then he sighs and he slings his arm around your shoulders as he pulls you close to his chest. “C’mon, let’s get a leg on then, maybe we can beat it.”
But sure enough, not two minutes into the walk back to your apartment you start to feel big, fat raindrops splattering across your nose. A second later the sky just seems to open up and it’s an absolute downpour.
“Fuck,” you can hear Billy grumbling immediately and you can’t help a little giggle but you’re relieved the deluge of rain keeps him from hearing it.
“C’mere,” he rumbles grumpily and he’s opening up his big old coat for you, wrapping it around your body and pulling you against him. “Cuddle in in close now, doll, can’t have ya catchin’ a cold.”
You slide your arm around his waist under his coat, curling your fingers into his dark Hawaiian shirt and doing your best to just hold on as he hurries you home.
Your hair is already soaked, you can’t help that, but the feeling of being wrapped up in Billy’s coat is sooo warm and so perfect. It feels so safe, when he has you like this, you can’t help but feel good.
The two of you have to stop at a crosswalk just before your building to wait for the light to turn and Billy tugs you closer somehow while you wait, tucking you underneath his chin. You turn your face into his shoulder for a moment and you can smell just a hint of his cologne, you can feel the heat of him emanating from his body, and it makes your fucking knees weak for him. Every single worry and ounce of stress seems to dissipate in a single second.
A shiver of pure wanton pleasure goes through you and when you glance up to meet Billy’s darkening hazel eyes his smirk tells you right away he knows damn well it’s not from the cold.
The moment you’re in your apartment he’s stripping the wet clothes from your body, crouching down next to you to tug your pants off, then handing you a dish towel to squeeze your hair.
You swear you’re completely naked in less than 3 minutes and he’s scooping you up in his arms, despite your half-hearted protest, then tossing you on the bed, bare and needy and completely spread out for him like some kind of kinky midnight buffet.
“Take your clothes off…” you almost whine looking up at him and his big body looming above you. You need him naked too. You need to see all of him.
“Bossy,” he tsks. “Or maybe just fuckin’ desperate for my cock, eh?” But he finishes taking his shirt off and then kneels over you, leaning on his hands by your head so you can reach his belt, wordlessly commanding you to get to work.
You obediently tug at his belt until it’s hanging lose, making him groan from above you, then quickly fumble the button of his jeans open and start pushing them and his boxers over his hips, forcing the zipper down as the fly slides over his thick swollen cock. It springs free of its restraint, the sight making your mouth water. When you can’t reach any further, you use your feet to push his jeans down his long, muscled legs and he chuckles gruffly, finally kicking them all the way off.
Billy shifts then, his hands sliding over your breasts and squeezing roughly as his gaze slips hotly over all of you again.
“Hands over your head, doll,” he commands in a low, husky voice. “I want ya to keep ‘em there. Don’t move. Understand?”
You nod eagerly as a hot, wanton frisson of pleasure ripples through your entire body, making your cunt throb and you lift your arms, crossing your wrists on the pillow above your head. “I understand,” you answer, breathless already, licking your lips.
“That’s a good girl,” he husks. “And don’t you worry, we’ll put that tongue to good use a little later,” he grins devilishly. “Let daddy take care of ya now.”
He dips his head, flicking your nipple with his tongue then catching it between his teeth and tugging, then quickly moves on, mouthing wet kisses down your torso until he’s kneeling between your thighs.
His big hands settle on your hips, holding them steady as if he already knows he’s going to drive you absolutely mad and his bearded jaw brushes against your inner thigh, urging you to shift your legs further apart for him, then pressing them to the bed with his forearms.
You’re wound so tight, you’re so desperate for him, the moment the tip of his skilled tongue flicks roughly against your throbbing clit you’re screaming out for him, mind lost to every other thought ever, your body completely his.

𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐘
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Do you think they’re gonna get too hot?” Bob asks, concern carving his voice into a pitched utterance. “Like--you know, is the sun too much? Should we just take ‘em home?”
Humming from beside Bob, settled onto the old sheets you have laid out across the sand, you just sigh with a fond smile tugging on your lips.
Of course he’s concerned about the babies in this heat--he’s a good father, one that never has to be told what to do or when to do it, one that literally leaps out of bed in the night to change diapers.
“They’re alright,” you assure Bob. “They’re covered! How could the sun get them at all?”
It’s true--the babies are thoroughly covered. Linen shorts and cotton shirts, floppy little sunhats, sunscreen covering every inch of them. Not to mention the umbrellas Bob has staked in the sand behind you--which casts shade over the entirety of your family.
“A freak accident,” Bob tells you, eyes slightly widened when he thinks about one of his precious babies--including you--getting burned. “Maybe we should--!”
“--Baby,” you interrupt, laughing as you glance at him from the top of your glasses. “It’s good that they’re outside! Immunity! Vitamin D! Fresh air! They’ll be alright!”
Bob sighs, glancing down at Jolene, who is sprawled out on your bent thighs, blinking in confusion at the floppy hat that just barely comes down over her eyes. Then he glances at Waylon, whose sound asleep on Bob’s thighs, little milk dribbling down his chin.
“It isn’t too late to tell them that they can meet us at the house,” Bob tells you. He looks up at the sky--endless blue and the sun a fiery hole puncturing the sky. “If we want to do that.”
“We don’t,” you assure him. “And, besides--I think it is too late.”
At that, Bob follows your gaze and turns. Yes--you’re right. It is too late. The squadron is already trailing down the beach, all in their aviators and swimming suits, grinning and zeroed in on yours and Bob’s beach setup.
“Oh, Lord,” Bob says softly, a fond smile tugging on his lips now. “Rooster’s gonna try and steal them, I think.”
“You’re only telling me this now?” You whisper, nudging him with your elbow teasingly.
He has told you before, though, about Rooster’s affinity for children. He can’t get enough of ‘em--he’s always hogging whatever admiral’s child he can get his hands on, playing airplanes or tea party or somehow getting them to nap. And you know, somehow, that Rooster is the goofy looking one with the unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt treading through the sand.
“Sorry, honey,” Bob chuckles.
You see how much this matters to Bob. Never mind that you know him better than anyone else in the world, having met in middle school and fallen in love straight away. Even if you didn’t know him better than anyone, if you were just a fly on the wall--you’d still know. He woke up too early this morning, pacing the kitchen as the coffee brewed, checking in on the twins every few minutes until he heard the first sounds of awakeness. He picked their outfits with you, chewing on his bottom lip. He had the car packed and ready to go before noon. He even called Phoenix a few times just to make sure that plans were still on--and was reminded, a few times, that the plans were absolutely still on.
“You’re shaking the beach,” you whisper, pressing a hand to his bouncing leg.
“Sorry,” Bob mutters, distracted. He stops bouncing his leg. “I’m…I’m really--!”
“--Nervous,” you finish for him, leaning forward to press your warm cheek against his bicep. You kiss him there, soft and sweet, and then sigh. “It’s alright, Bobby. The babies are perfect, the squadron loves you, I’m very personable, the sun is shining, the seagulls are crying! Everything’s gonna be okay!”
“Yeah,” Bob sighs, scratching his head and giving you a quick peck on the forehead. “Yeah, you’re right. I guess I’m just--I don’t know. This is important to me.”
“I know it,” you say, heart swollen. “And I know it’s important to them, too. It’ll be good!”
“It’ll be good,” Bob repeats softly, glancing at you. You’re grinning at him--it makes his shoulders sink. “It’ll be good.”
“Well, well, well,” Hangman says as his feet sink into the hot, hot sand. He grins, squinting even behind his aviators as the sun beats down on his face. “If it ain’t baby on board and his babies on board.”
Bob grins at the sound of Jake’s voice--which surprises him, really. Before that never would’ve happened. But now Bob is back in Lemoore, with you and your babies, and everything feels distinctly better than it did before.
“Hangman,” Bob grins, sticking his hand out for Jake to take. “Good to see you, man.”
Hangman, who’s holding two comically large stuffed rabbits, shuffles to put them under one arm and take Bob’s hand in his.
“How goes it?” Jake asks. Then he glances at you--you’re grinning at him, holding your daughter still. “And this must be the Missus, huh? Pleasure to make your acquaintance!”
Jake crosses the sheets to take your hand, which he promptly brings to his mouth to kiss.
“Don’t mind him,” Rooster says as he appears, toting a cooler and a speaker. “The lack of oxygen in the cockpit really scrambled his brain.”
“Ha-ha-ha,” Hangman says, glancing at Rooster. “Did Bob tell you that Rooster is gonna try and steal them?” Jake asks, pointing to the babies with his brow perched.
“Actually, yes,” you answer, smiling softly. “He did.”
Rooster, rolling his eyes good-naturedly, sets the cooler in the sand before grinning at Bob and stretching his hands out.
“Baby me and I’ll beer you,” Rooster says.
“That doesn’t sound like a fair exchange,” Phoenix sighs, rounding out to clap Rooster on the shoulder before grinning at Bob and you. “Floyds!”
“Hey, Nat,” Bob grins. “How are you?”
“Oh, she’s great,” Payback answers, wiping sweat off his forehead as he sets his beach chair in the sand. “Super, even!”
“She got the aux in the van,” Fanboy explains, resting his elbow on Payback’s shoulder. “Two words: Def Leppard.”
“Lemme see those babies!” Coyote’s voice booms as he jogs up and rounds out the squadron. He’s grinning a broad grin, arms already outstretched.
“Hey, I already called dibs!” Rooster says.
“Yeah, but I got here first,” Hangman grins.
Everyone looks at Bob like he’s the tie-breaker.
“There’s only two of them,” Bob says, laughing quietly.
“You’re gonna have to choose,” Rooster says seriously.
“Here,” you suggest, leaning forward to put Jolene in Hangman’s extended arms. “Take one and pass it on.”
Everyone laughs--it’s music to Bob’s ears. He watches you carefully transfer Jolene into Hangman’s arms, watches him turn absolutely gooey at the sight of your infant daughter. He cups her little head, holds her close to him, grins down at her. You readjust her sunhat and then lean back.
“Oh, she’s too cute,” Hangman says, shaking his head seriously. “Rooster, you’re definitely gonna want to take this one.”
“Here,” Bob says, suddenly feeling more confident in his squadron’s ability than before. He leans forward and bestows Waylon upon Rooster, smiling softly and fondly as he Waylon coos and begins to blink himself awake. “You’re a natural.”
Rooster, delighted, sinks into the sand and holds Waylon close to him.
“Oh, I know,” he says--cocksure as ever. “Look at this little fella. Boy, does he look like a Floyd!”
“Yes,” you agree, laughing. “My DNA didn’t even try.”
As Hangman and Rooster hog the babies, everyone makes their rounds. You shake everyone’s hands, finally put faces to names, and collect all the presents for the babies and yourself. Bob keeps a watchful eye on the babies, but not because he’s stressed--but because he’s enamored that he has two perfect little beings to share with the important people in his life.
The afternoon drifts forward. Your little spot on the beach becomes the spot on the beach, everyone spreading their blankets out and overlapping, coolers abundant and drinks icy. The babies get passed around, hardly even fussing, but always somehow end up back in Rooster’s arms.
Even when everyone decides to get up and toss the pigskins, Rooster ends up staying on the palette with you and Bob and the babies. He’s somehow holding them both at the same time, grinning down at them as they blink up at him.
“You’re ridiculous,” Hangman had said to Rooster, rolling his eyes. “A giant, gushy, manchild.”
“Proud of it,” Rooster had said, cheeks pink.
“They really like you,” you tell Bradley, sighing softly. “I’m still getting used to having all this help, you know? I’m a bit mind-blown right now.”
“Well, I’m here for any babysitting services,” Rooster says. “Hell, I’ll pay you!”
“You’re my favorite already,” you tell Rooster.
Bob looks at you--you’re smiling softly at Rooster and the babies. Your eyes are heavy and your back is curved and he knows that you’re that special kind of tired that is special to new motherhood. Bob understands. He knows. But his heart still squeezes at your sentence. He had to leave only two weeks after they were born, which broke his heart and yours. Of course, because you’re you, you’d put on a very brave face for him. But there were a few times--a few more times than Bob is comfortable with--when you answered his call with a tearful sniffle and a deep sigh.
He reminds himself, as he gazes at you, that things are different now. He’s home for a while--and even after that, he’ll be close to home for the foreseeable future. He’ll never miss bath time or dinner or storytime. He’ll be here, beside you, through it all.
“They really are beautiful,” Rooster tells the both of you. He looks between the two of you, tired and unsure parents with glittering eyes and soft smiles. “You’re doing a damn fine job of it.”
“Thanks, man,” Bob says. “It’s all her.”
You have to swallow hard and roll your eyes, nudging him, to keep from crying pure tears of joy.
Rooster gasps suddenly. “Okay, don’t call me crazy, but I swear to God that Jolene just smiled at me!” He says, elated. “Oh, God. Hangman’s gonna be so pissed.”

Part 2
Part 3
Tumblr media
It surprises you every time you come back to the Hard Deck how it hasn’t changed. At least the atmosphere. Civilians and aviators alike. Penny grins at you when you walk in. Elbowing your way through the crowd, you take a seat at the bar, leaning far enough over to let her kiss you on the cheek. Her and your mom had been best friends. Penny’s known you since you were in diapers, helped your mom through the divorce, and helped you when she passed away. You always did your best to come visit her when you could. You’re on leave for the next two months and you aren’t wasting it anywhere else but here.
“Long time no see.” Penny says as she grabs you a drink.
You only grin. “You’ll be seeing so much of me, you’ll be sick of me.”
“Is free labor included in that?”
“Always.” A two toned whistle catches your attention. Turning to look behind you, you sigh at the sight. Holy shit. They’re all here. Your eyes narrow at the blonde, his grin widening when he catches you staring. “Maybe not tonight, Pen.”
Penny shakes her head. “I didn’t think so. Go on, then.”
Throwing her a grateful smile, you’re up and heading towards the pool table. It’s a reunion, no doubt. You’d been overseas the last few months. Seeing everyone here is a blessing. You can’t help the splitting grin on your face when Bob wraps you up right in his arms. How the two of you hit it off, you’ll never know, but you aren’t complaining.
“Look who it is, folks. Our Sunny girl. Did ya’ll see it get brighter in here when she walked in?”
Your eyes roll so far into the back of your head you’re surprised they don’t get stuck. Turning, you come face to face with the blonde who’d called for your attention.
“Hangman,”
He pulls the toothpick out of his mouth and winks. “Sunshine.”
“What’s got y’all here?”
“You.” Phoenix answers, standing from where she knocked two solids in at the pool table.
You turn to look back at the bar. Penny’s already looking at you with a smirk. What a little sneak. You should’ve known she let you go too easily. Shaking your head you step forward and snag the pool stick from Hangman. He smirks, but doesn’t say anything. You quirk an eyebrow. Lieutenant Jake Seresin keeping his mouth shut? It’s a goddamn miracle. His eyes never leave you as the game finishes. Phoenix grumbles at her loss, you were three shots behind when you started. It’s not your fault that you’re good, that you’re very good. Handing the stick off to Bob, your eyes scan the bar. It’s been almost thirty minutes since you got here. It’s a Saturday night and the bar is busy.
No Hawaiian shirt in sight. No porn mustache spotted anywhere. Your shoulders deflate. If everyone else is here, why isn’t he?
“Who you looking for, Sunshine?”
You glance sideways. “Wouldn’t like to know.”
Jake only grins. “Your bird boy ain’t here yet. Had a meeting with Maverick, I believe.”
Fucking Christ. Are you really that hopeless when it comes to him? So exposed that even Bagman can tell that your head over heels for Rooster? It’s not like it’s your fault. If you had it your way, you’d be happy with your own company. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, I think you do. Because as much as you pine for him, Bradshaw is a dumbass.”
“What do you mean?”
“He hasn’t noticed, Sunny. You’re still that kid from down the road. You need to do something to make him see you.”
The thought has crossed your mind. You’ve known Bradley so long that he probably didn’t think of you that way. Your teeth bite into your cheek, hands fiddling with the hem of your dress. You don’t miss the way Hangman’s eyes take you in. His gaze lingering on your bare thighs. You huff out a small laugh, pulling his attention back to your face.
You and Jake have a weird relationship. He annoys you to no end but you trust him with your life. Pretty sure you’re the only one in the bar that does. Jake’s been protective of you since you met at Top Gun. A relationship without the relationship, you suppose.
“Can always stir the pot,”
You blink. “What?”
“Make him jealous, Sunny.” A snort escapes you and you slap a hand over your mouth. Jake’s smile is wide, his head falling back with a deep chuckle. “Oh, Sunny girl.”
“I have no one to make him jealous. Even if I did, that’s a stupid idea. What am I, in eighth grade?”
“Honey, look at who you’re talking to.”
Green eyes devour you when you look up at him. He is right. No one gets under Rooster’s skin more than Hangman. You bite your lip, unsure. You shouldn’t. You really, really shouldn’t. But there’s a fire in Hangman’s eyes, like he’s got a point to prove. Playing with the hem of your dress, you scrape the toe of your shoe against the floor. Fuck it, really, what do you have to lose?
“What are we going to do, exactly?”
Jake raises his hand, cupping the side of your face. His thumb lightly drags over your bottom lip before pulling it down. He pulls it away and looks down at the faintly smeared mauve color now on the pad. He lifts it up to his mouth and rubs it in.
“What are you doing?”
His lips tilt into a knowing smirk. “Teasin’.”
He’s going to get you in trouble. Lifting a hand to your own mouth, it’s smacked lightly. Sharp eyes glare at him.
“Go pick out a song. Let’s dance.”
“Dance?”
“Yeah, Sunshine, dance. Now go, and pick out a good one.”
You roll your eyes but do as you're told. Eyes follow you the whole way to the jukebox. You lean over, just a bit, the bottom of your dress rising up to tease. Was that why you wore it? Maybe. You wouldn’t tell. Flipping through the songs, you pause a few pages back, a knowing smile taking over your face. Putting the money in, you twirl back to face Jake. When the song starts playing he laughs.
“Honey, you are playing dirty.”
“You started it.”
“Well, you do have your boots on.” He says toeing your Ariats.
“Come on, Texas. Show me how to boogie.”
“You are asking for trouble.”
An eyebrow raises. “Pot, meet kettle.”
Jake doesn’t say anything else. His hand grabs for yours, his arm wrapping around your waist and pulling you tightly to him. You can’t help but gasp when his thigh slots between yours. Tightening your grip on his shoulder, he twirls you both out and makes room to have a dance floor. The other patrons cheer while watching. A few cat calls thrown your way. A carefree laugh makes its way from you. It’s been a long time since you’ve felt this way. It’s silly, really. To think that teasing a grown ass man made you feel this way.
“Just a heads up, Sunny girl, Bradshaw’s been watching since you went to pick out the song.” Your heart drops. What now? You go to turn your head, to try to find him, anything, really, but are stopped short. Jake slides his hand into your hair keeping you still. “Stop. You’re going to ruin it. I can see his fucking vein bulging from here.”
This is a good thing, right? This is what you wanted? His attention? Jake knows what he’s doing. He’s never led you astray before. Hopefully he won't start now. Jake lets you go, hanging you out with one hand before twirling you around. You’re facing away from him now, and you come face to face with Rooster. You inhale sharply, the smell of him overwhelming you.
“What’s going on here?” He asks, no preamble.
“We’re dancing, I know you have eyes, Bradshaw.”
Bradley looks from Hangman down at you. Head to toe his eyes blaze over you. A fire touching your skin. Licking at the top of your exposed breasts and down your thighs. You can see his lips twitch. The man knows you. His hand reaches out, pinches the fabric of the dress, rolling it between his fingers. It’s his favorite color, and by the look in his eyes you know he knows you wore it just for him.
“Hey Sunshine.”
“Hi Rooster.”
“Couldn’t wait for me, huh?”
You frown. Opening your mouth to talk, you’re promptly cut off. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
Rooster shrugs. You follow after him to the table where all your friends are. Most of them try their hardest to look as if they aren’t watching this scene play out like a movie. You jump up to sit on the table, grabbing your drink and taking a sip. You hand Hangman his beer, his glare still on the man beside you. Neither of them say anything for a long time. They just stare, having a silent conversation that you don’t know how to decipher.
“Didn’t know you had a thing for Bagman, Sunshine.” Rooster finally says.
You snort, ignoring Jake’s smirk. “He wishes.”
“That why your lipstick is on his mouth?”
“Who’s mouth should it be on? Wouldn’t want it to go to waste.” Jesus Christ, he’s trying to get you into fucking trouble. Widened eyes look at Jake, his face more stoic than you’ve ever seen it.
“What does that mean?”
Hangman huffs, taking a pull from his beer. “All I’m saying Bradshaw, is that you’ve got a hell of a woman hanging off every word you say. Waiting on you to finally do something. So, you better fuck her before I do.”
Did he know you could hear him? You’re sitting like two feet away. Neither of the men back were backing down and it’s making your anxiety spike. They’ve always been at each other's throats. You’re not sure when their little feud became about you.
“Did she say that?”
“Say what?”
“Did Sunshine say that she wanted you to fuck her?”
There was no hiding the smugness in Bradley’s tone. Hook, line, and sinker. A muscle twitches in Jake’s jaw from how hard he’s clenching his teeth. Suddenly, he glances over at you and you know you must look like a deer caught in headlights. He sighs but it doesn’t sound like one of defeat. More like he’s losing his patience.
He steps towards you, thumb trailing over your bottom lip. “If it doesn't work out with him, Sunny. You know where to find me.”
Hangman turns without looking at either of you again and makes for the jukebox. Your lips quirk up when you recognize the song.
***
The sound of the door closing is your only warning. Hazel eyes meet yours in the mirror as you roll your neck. Your body relaxes when you feel him press up against your back. He’s so warm it sends chills running down your spine. The bathroom isn’t all that big. Bradley stands behind you, invading your space and swallowing it whole. There is nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. It’s easy to see that Hangman’s words have gotten under your skin. Your heart thunders in your chest at what’s going to happen next. A small prayer is sent off that Penny never finds out.
“You look good, flower.”
You smile at the nickname. “Thanks. It’s always fun when you can dress up in civvy clothes.”
He huffs. “The dress is really something,”
You grin at him through the mirror and you see Adam’s apple bob, hazel eyes fixated on your lips. You swallow, your throat thick. Tearing your gaze from his, you smooth your hands down the soft material, fingers playing with the hem of it. You took a chance with it, and you’re grateful it’s working out in your favor.
The tension is thick and heady. It clings to your skin, his callouses catch on your skin, gluing themselves to you. The music from the jukebox beats against the bathroom door, it’s the only thing accompanied by your heavy breathing. Your eyes shut when his hand pulls your hair to rest over one shoulder. A light yank of your hair has them snapping open. You meet his eyes in the mirror. One eyebrow quirks up at you. With a shaky breath you nod. Bradley leans in, lips lightly brushing against the expanse of your neck. His gaze rests on the soft spot right next to where it connects to your shoulder. You tilt your neck not only to give him more access, but permission too. Your lips tilt at the groan he lets out before his lips are on you.
Slowly his hands pull your sleeves down your arms. Goosebumps rise on your exposed skin. It makes you feel a little vulnerable. But then Bradley pushes himself even closer. He’s got his Hawaiian shirt on, jeans, and his boots. You can feel him breathing, his chest warming your back. It’s when he pushes his hips against you—you can feel him. All of him. A whimper escapes you and you see him grin in the mirror.
A hand trails down your side while the other moves to your chest. Your head falls back when a nipple is taken between his calloused fingers. You’ve only dreamt of what his hands would feel like. Your imagination didn’t do him justice. The heat coming from him is intoxicating. You’ve been so caught up in him that you haven’t realized a hand has been slipping down, down down. Fingers toiling with your dress, pushing the skirt up slowly. A hum rumbles from him when his fingers finally find your core, slipping between your folds. You’re completely soaked. You’ve been this way since he appeared right in front of you. Your breath locks in your throat when he slips a digit in.
“Christ,” he mutters, voice thick like honey. “No panties, flower?”
You whine, you can’t help it. You push your hips back into him, arching your back. His voice, the accusation in his tone. You knew what you were doing when you left your house. Maybe he’d come home with you, fucking you good and proper in your bed. Not pressed up against the sink of the Hard Deck. Bradley pulls his finger out only to push it back in with another. He does this, warming up your body, until you’re moaning, your own hand wrapped around his wrist and guiding him. You can’t stop your hips from grounding down on his hand. Desire has taken over. Bradley has left your nipple, hand now wrapped around your throat, holding you hostage to watch yourself in the mirror. He grunts when you clench around his fingers. You’re close, so close.
“Bradley,” you whine, fingers digging into his arm.
“I know, flower. You want it real bad, don’t you? Let me feel it. Let me feel you gush all over my hand sweet girl. Would you like that?”
You’re going to come off his words alone. A moan falling from your lips as the pressure tightens. It’s only moments later when the band snaps, hot liquid flooding throughout your body. Your head falls back against his chest, another moan filling the small space.
“That’s it, that’s my girl.”
You can feel him moving behind you. The distinct clinking of his belt being undone. Your whole body grows hotter in anticipation. Searing heat hits you, a hand stroking himself while the other is spreading you open. Heat pulses between your legs. There’s no doubt that he’ll split you wide open. After what you just pulled with Jake, you’d be surprised if he was forgiving at all. It’s a little fucked up, but it warms your belly all the same. Lifting your head, you gasp when his eyes meet yours. Bradley’s pupils are blown, lust and primal desire have taken over. His lips pink and full, he bends down and kisses right between your shoulder blades. Traveling up your spine, over your shoulder, he digs his teeth in where it meets your neck. You don’t miss his smirk when you moan.
He slides a hand across your ass, slapping you just hard enough to leave a red handprint behind as he thrust deep, bottoming out. A hand clamps down around your mouth, muffling the scream trying to break free. He’s big, so fucking big. He’s filling you up like never before. It hurts, a pain that you will never get enough of. Your knuckles turn white with each rough, lazy thrust. Bradley slides a hand along your spine, up the back of your neck and into your hair, your breath catches as he pulls your head up and you’re meeting his gaze in the mirror. He’s watching you come undone around him. Each stroke pulling more and more pleasure. Your cheeks are flushed, pupils blown with lust, and lips parted as each of your clipped breaths turn into whimpers.
“Flower,” he grits, hand tightening in your hair, “you feel so fucking good.”
You stare back at him, feet spreading wider to let as much of him in as you can. His teeth dig into your skin again, this time leaving bruises behind. It makes you whine. Little secrets that litter your skin. He thrusts harder, rougher until your hand is pressed against the mirror just to keep you balanced. He’s fully claiming you. Cock punching into the deepest part of you. Neither of you are too worried about the sounds escaping you now.
“Bradley, I–” you're cut off by a whimper when he reaches that spongy spot deep inside you. Over and over again, you feel it approaching, your orgasm is going to come crashing down and you’re ready to bask in it. Your face lifts up, like a sunflower searching for the sun.
“Flower? Are you going to come for me again? Are you going to let me feel you come around my cock?”
“Yes! Yes, I–Rooster, fuck,”
You come on his cock like a tidal wave, and when you collapse against the counter, your body trembles, heaving desperately for air. Bradley groans, pulling you up until you’re flush against him. His lips meet yours in a messy kiss, bucking his hips harder until he’s chasing his high right over the ledge with you.
“Good girl,” he praises, wiping the sweat off the back of your neck. “Good fuckin’ girl. That’s my good girl.”
The jukebox is still blaring when you exit the bathroom. Slowly you make your way back to where your friends are. Ignoring all of their knowing stares you reach for your drink and down it. When Bradley finally makes his appearance beside you, a possessive arm thrown over your shoulders and a quick kiss to the crown of your head. Hangman’s watching the both of you, a knowing look in his eye.
“So, Bradshaw, how was she?”

Unbroken
Part 1
(next part here)
Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x You
Summary: You (Jake’s younger sister, Emma) were gutted by the way your first (and only) relationship ended, you’re not looking for anything but some fun. Bradley Bradshaw shows up for your older brother’s wedding and is eager to scratch your itch, but refuses to let it be a one-time thing. Will you let him mend the heart he didn’t break?
*Should be able to read alone but helps to read Jake and Charlie’s story, ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ first.

“Thanks for letting me get ready here, I was afraid I wouldn’t have time to shower and get ready after that last call. Does this look okay?” You ask as you check your reflection in the mirror.
“No problem,” your oldest friend and soon-to-be sister-in-law, Charlie answers as she comes into the guest bedroom. “Emma Lou, you look gorgeous. That dress new?”
Charlie and Jake had invited you over for dinner to meet the other half of their wedding party, Bradley Bradshaw.
“Kind of? I got it at the beginning of last summer, just haven’t worn it yet. It’s too short for church and can’t really wear a dress when I’m wrangling farm animals,” you laugh.
“Well, you could if you really wanted too. I’m sure the farmers wouldn’t mind,” she teases.
“Ew,” you shudder, thinking about one client in particular you work with. “No thanks.
“Anderson still being gross?” Charlie asks, reading your mind.
“Uh-huh. Speaking of, I have to go out there tomorrow, he thinks one of his cows is pregnant,” you sigh, following her to the kitchen.
“Can’t Gav or Noah go instead?” She asks, washing her hands at the sink.
“I’m sure either would in a second,” you reply, wetting your hands too. “They’ve been nothing but great since I joined the practice, but I haven’t told them how he acts towards me. They’d fire him in an instant if they found out. It’s dumb, but I feel like he wins if he knows it bothers me. Plus he brings a lot of money into the practice. Ky comes with me too.”
Charlie frowns but then nods. “Okay, but be careful. He’s a dead man if he ever lays a hand on you,” she warns.
You don’t tell her that he already has.
“So this Bradshaw guy…Is he as hot in person as he is on Insta?” You ask, changing the subject.
“Nope,” she laughs, drying her hands. “Even hotter.”
“Off to a good start. Straight? Single?”
“Yes and yes. He told Jake he was going to ask me out but I think it was just to push Jake into telling me how he felt,” Charlie replies.
“Should’ve done that 10 years ago,” you mutter, smiling when she rolls her eyes.
“Bradley’s a sweetheart. I think you’d make a cute couple.”
It’s your turn to roll your eyes. “I’m just looking to get laid. My vibe isn’t cutting it anymore.”
“What’s not cutting it anymore?” Jake asks as he walks into the kitchen behind the two of you.
“My vibrator. I was telling Charlie I need to get laid,” you answer, forgetting Jake was picking Bradley up from his hotel on the way home.
Jake coughs awkwardly, “Bradshaw, this is my sister, Emma.”
You cringe, laughing as you turn around, refusing to be embarrassed.
Damn. Charlie wasn’t lying; he is hotter in person. Dressed in tight jeans with a Hawaiian shirt, unbuttoned to reveal his dog tags, and a white tank clinging to his defined chest.
“Couldn’t have led with that, Jake?” You glare at your older brother before turning to Bradley with a smile. “Nice to meet you.”
“You can call me Bradley, or Rooster if you want. Nice to meet you too,” he chuckles, cheeks flushed and his deep brown eyes twinkle with amusement as he takes your outstretched hand, making it look small. Your eyes flicker to his dog tags, wishing you could reach out and grab them to pull him in for a kiss.
“Who wants a beer?” Charlie asks, breaking the spell.
“Me, please, and thank you,” you answer as you reluctantly pull your hand away, wondering how his callouses would feel on other parts of your body.
“I’ll take one too, thanks,” he answers as his eyes do a perusal of you.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“So you’re a vet?” Bradley asks as you finish your singer around Jake and Charlie’s kitchen table.
“Yep. Large animals mostly, but I’ll cover the clinic if needed,” you reply.
“Emma was always the smart one,” Jake says, nudging you with his elbow.
“And the pretty one, and the sweet one, and the strong one…” you tease.
“Strong one is true,” Charlie agrees, squealing as Jake pinches her.
“I’ll never hear the end of it ‘cause Em beat me in arm wrestling once or twice,” Jake rolls his eyes.
“Once or twice?! I was 14 the last time you beat me,” you scoff as Charlie laughs in the background.
“Sounds like there needs to be a rematch,” Bradley says, sipping his beer.
“I’m in,” you shrug, looking at Jake.
“Fine.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Everyone helps clear the table and load the dishwasher. It’s refreshing to see a man besides your dad and Jake help; you and Jake were raised without household gender roles but most of the men you know weren’t.
“Alright, on 3. Jake,” Charlie looks at him as she holds your intertwined hands. “No cheating.”
You laugh at the look he gives her.
“1, 2, 3!” Charlie says and releases your hands.
Jake’s stronger than you remember, but still not as strong as you. You let him push your arm a little, biting your lip to not laugh at the look of surprise that flashes over his face before you take a deep breath and push his arm down.
“Oh come on, you totally dropped your shoulder!” Jake argues.
“She did not, you’re just a sore loser,” Charlie laughs, kissing his cheek.”
“Gym muscle just doesn’t compare to farm muscle,” you grin, flexing your bicep.
“Guess not,” Bradley smiles.
Your phone rings and you frown when you see that it’s your tech, Ky.
“It’s work. Sorry, I gotta take this,” you excuse yourself to the front porch.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Everything okay?” Jake asks when you come back inside.
“Yeah,” you nod. “It was my tech. His kid is sick so he won’t be with me tomorrow.”
“So you have to go to Anderson’s alone?” Charlie asks, remembering your conversation from earlier.
“Yep,” you sigh, flopping down on the couch.
“As in Jim Anderson? The pervy old fuck?” Jake asks, sitting forward on the couch.
“That’s the one. He thinks one of his heifers is pregnant and I’ve got to go take a look at her before the weekend.”
“Shit,” Jake sighs, thinking. “I’d go with you but we meet with the pastor tomorrow morning. I’ll call him and see if we can-“
“No. You’re getting married in a few days. I can handle it,” you assure him.
“I know you can,” Jake agrees, “But it’d make me feel better if you weren’t alone.
“I can go with you,” Bradley offers. “I was just going to hang out at the hotel while these guys were busy.”
“Oh, you don’t have to do that,” you shake your head. “It’s smelly and gross.”
“I don’t mind,” Bradley shrugs.
“He can use some of my old clothes and work boots,” Jake adds. “I know you can hold your own, Em, but I really don’t like that guy.”
Knowing Jake won’t drop it, you sigh and look at Bradley. “You really don’t mind?”
“Not at all. I think it’d be cool,” he smiles so genuinely that you can’t help but believe him.
“Okay. I’ll pick you up at 8.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Bradley’s waiting outside the lobby holding two coffees when you pull up the next morning in your work truck. He looks good enough to eat, even if he is wearing your brother’s Wranglers and a Longhorn tee; your Alma mater.
“Two creams, no sugar,” Bradley says, handing a travel cup over. “I texted Jake how you take it,” he answers before you can ask.
You take a sip. “Oh it’s perfect, thank you. I was gonna treat you since you’re helping me out.”
“You’re saving me from a morning of scrolling on my phone, it’s the least I could do,” he replies. He’s practically vibrating in his seat as you pull out of the driveway.
“Excited?”
“Yeah,” he replies with a grin. “I’ve never been up close to a cow before”
You laugh. “Really?”
“Really. I grew up in the city.”
He tells you about it on the way; his dad died before he really knew him and much like Charlie, he was raised by a single mom that he lost to cancer too young.
“You don’t have any family left,” You realize softly.
“Mav’s like an uncle, plus Jake and the rest of the squad.”
“Jake’s not the best at expressing it, but he considers you a brother.”
“You’re telling me the guy who was in love with his best friend for 15 years but didn’t tell her isn’t good at expressing his feelings?” Bradley jokes.
“Crazy, right?” You laugh. “I hear you were gonna ask Charlie out.”
“I just told him that so he’d finally make a move. Yet he always says I’m snug on my perch.” Bradley sighs, rolling his eyes.
“Yeah…what is the story with your callsign?” You ask.
“My dad’s callsign was Goose, so it’s a nod to him. I’m also a morning person.”
“That’s it?” You ask as you turn into the driveway.
“…why?” He asks, avoiding your question and your eyes.
“I was just wondering if it means you have a big cock,” you answer as you grab your bag and hop out of the truck, eyes flicking to his groin before meeting his with a cheeky grin.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Bradley catches up to you a minute later.
“Good. He’s not outside,” you observe out loud as you round the corner of the barn. “I’m assuming she’s the one in the holding chute. Maybe we’ll get lucky and be gone before he realizes I was here.”
“That bad, huh?”
Your blood boils as recall you the times he’s touched your ass, brushed your breasts, and the inappropriate comments he’s made.
“Yeah, that bad,” you reply, starting your exam.
You finish quickly, laughing when Bradley turns green as you palpate inside her.
“Jesus! Your whole fucking arm’s inside her!” He gulps, turning away and patting her side.
“We got a fetus,” you say pulling your arm free, and removing the lubricated sleeve from your arm. “I just need to give the mama-to-be some vaccines and we’re done.”
“You know, she’s actually kind of cute,” Bradley says, crouching on the other side of the chute to rub her head.
“The calves are even cuter,” you reply, patting her. “I’ll be ready in a second here. Just a heads up, she may flinch.”
You hum as you draw up the meds, not hearing the footsteps behind you. You jump when a hand brushes your backside.
“Didn’t even come to the door to say hello. You avoidin’ me?” Jim breathes into your ear, reeking of chewing tobacco and old sweat.
“Hi Jim. No, I’m just in a hurry. Have a lot to do with Jake’s wedding in a few days,” you reply, stepping to the side to get out of his reach, refusing to look at him.
“You can spare 5 minutes, can’t you? I never get you to myself,” he spits before entering your space again.
“No. I’m here to see the animals, not you-hey!” You yelp when he tugs your ponytail.
That’s the final straw.
He stumbles when you jerk your elbow back, knocking the wind out of him when it nails his solar plexus.
“Don’t ever fucking touch me again,” you seethe, quickly administering the injections and picking up your bag.
“Oh come on, honey. I was just playin’,” he wheezes, bent over. But he reaches for you again.
“You heard her. Don’t touch her. Or anyone else for that matter,” Bradley says calmly as he walks around the chute; but you can see his hand shaking out of the corner of your eye.
Jim gulps as he looks up at Bradley before nodding. “Alright. Sorry Em.”
“I’ll send you the bill and you can find your veterinary care elsewhere,” you reply, ignoring his apology.
Jim’s face goes white when Bradley murmurs something and slaps him on the back none too lightly before following you to the truck.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“So that was unprofessional,” you sigh as you back out of the driveway. “But fuck, it felt good.”
“It’s not unprofessional to protect yourself,” he replies. “You’re quite the woman, Emma.”
Your cheeks heat under his praise. “I really appreciate you coming with me and having my back.”
“You had it handled, but no problem.”
“Can I treat you to lunch? As a thank you,” you ask as you pull into the parking lot of his hotel. Not admitting to yourself that you just want more time with him.
“You don’t have to do that, but yeah, I’d like to get lunch with you.”
“Great! I’d take ya now, but I smell like a barn,” you smile. “I’ll pick ya back up in about an hour after I shower.”
“Can’t wait,” he winks, walking to the lobby after shutting the door.
He grins when he glances back, catching you watching him walk away in those tight Wranglers.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Sorry I’m late. I ended up calling my coworkers to let them know what happened before Jim calls to complain.”
“No worries. How’d that go?” He asks, climbing into your personal (and much cleaner) truck.
“Good. They were furious,” you reply, continuing when he arches a brow. “But not at me, said they wish I would’ve told them earlier. Noah’s going to give him a call later. I’d love to be a fly on the wall during that conversation.”
“I’m glad they’ve got your back too.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Wait a minute, is there where Jake took Charlie on their first date?” Bradley asks when he sees the sign for the scenic outlook turn, handing you a fry from the bag of food you picked up from Ray’s-the town’s old carhop.
“Yeah, he told you about that?”
“I gave him the idea. Well…sort of,” he chuckles. “He was freaking out and didn’t know where to take her. Wanted it to be special, you know? So I asked what he would’ve done if they were in high school. I laughed when he told me he’d take girls to a car hop and find some place to park and fool around, but he said Charlie would like it.”
“She did. She would get so jealous when he’d take other girls out. It was so obvious. God, he’s an idiot,” you laugh, parking under the shade of a live oak.
You eat your lunch on the tailgate as he tells you about his dates when he was younger.
“…my mom tracked us down when I missed curfew and didn’t answer my cell, found us necking in the grocery store parking lot,” he smiles.
“I’m sure it wasn’t at the time, but that’s hilarious.”
“It was mortifying. That was the first and last date I got with Ashley Jones.”
“Thats too bad; if your mom hadn’t found you when she did, you might be married with 2.5 kids by now,” you tease, sipping your milkshake.
He laughs. “Nah, I’m happy with where I am at the moment.”
You smile, catching his insinuation when his eyes meet yours.
“How about you? You ever come out here and make out in a truck with a guy?”
“Nope. I’m Jake Seresin’s little sister, so every cop in town always had an eye on me. Fucking Jake,” you sigh dramatically. “It’s like a rite of passage around here and he ruined it for me.”
“You know, I’m a guy….and we’re sitting in a truck,” Bradley murmurs, brushing a strand of hair off your forehead.
“Yeah? You offering?” You ask, leaning in.
“I am,” he whispers before pressing his lips to yours.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•

It’s A Right Of Passage | tasm!peter/dad!peter imagine
Warnings: none, fluffy embarrassing parent stuff
Word Count: under 1k (it’s another quick I’m not counting)
A/N: been itching for a while to contribute to dad Peter content and feel like there is a lot of dealing with young kids stories but not enough about dealing with teenagers. So here is their eldest son Ben bringing a girl home for the first time. (Also the gif really just sparked an idea to raise this even more)
Tumblr media
“Peter, what the heck are you wearing?” You hiss at your husband as he enters the kitchen in a Hawaiian shirt and straw hat.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, it’s all a part of the plan.” He says, moving round the back of the kitchen island to place a kiss on your cheek.
The doorbell goes and there’s a thundering of feet racing down the stairs, your son calling out, “she’s here!” and you start to put two and two together.
“No.” You turn to your husband. “No.” But he’s got a devious smirk on his face, his eyebrows raising at you mischievously.
“Oh yeah.” He counters with an exaggerated head nod.
“No, Peter. This is the first time Ben is bringing a girl home. He finally trusts us enough and you’re gonna embarrass the poor boy.”
“Poor boy? I’ll have you know that poor boy was the one who started a prank war with me when he was 9. Do you know how many pairs of underwear I had to throw away because the itching powder just wouldn’t wash out.”
“Uh huh.” You listened as you continued to chop the cucumber and tomatoes for the salad.
“And let’s not forget the time he put eggs in my shoes. Or the time him and his friends tee peed my car. My car babe.”
“Yes I remember.” You reply unenthusiastically to your husbands reasoning. “But Pete,” you say, putting down the knife in your hands and turning to him, “he’s 15 and this is the first girl he’s brought home. You do this and he’ll never forgive you.”
“Of course he will.” He says, already laughing about the thought of the future conversations he’ll have with his son about this. “Come on Babe, it’s a right of passage. I’ve been waiting for this day.” You turn away from him and give him the silent treatment. “You seriously telling me your parents didn’t embarrass you or your brother when you first brought a date home?” You begin to soften as you think back to a memory from your childhood. “Besides, this is still way better than what Uncle Ben did the first time I brought a girl home.”
“Dad? Where’s the TV remote?” Ben’s voice calls from the living room.
You watch as his face lights up. “This is my moment.” He says before swaggering towards the door.
“Just take it easy- and I want to hear the whole story about what your Uncle did to you later!” You call to him. He gives you a knowing nod of agreement before he leaves the room.
“Sooo, who’s ready for lu’au night.” You hear him say as he enters the living room and you can’t help but roll your eyes, already mentally preparing yourself for the damage control you’ll need to do after the poor girls gone home, later.

“I’m coming, just sit tight!”
for zukka please and thank you! <3
For this prompt game!
“Sokka, come on, we’re going to be late!”
“I just need a minute,” Sokka calls back, unconcerned, like he didn’t just get out of the shower, fuck.
But it’s okay, it’s okay, this is fine. This is still fine. Zuko might have meticulously planned every bit of the day, because Sokka loves nothing more than a thorough and well made schedule, but it’s fine. They can just…not do the walk along the pond that Sokka’s favorite local painted is always painting, and Zuko can scale back the time he’s allotted for lunch and afternoon snack, and—
“Sokka, it’s going to take forty-five minutes just to get there! Hurry up!”
“Which is where, again?” Sokka calls back, sounding fucking breezy.
“Somewhere we need to be in forty minutes,” Zuko grits out, finally giving into the urge to shove off the couch and pace the living room.
“Relax, hot stuff,” Sokka laughs from their bedroom, thank fuck. At least he’s out of the bathroom. “It’s a staycation, isn’t it? What’s the big deal?”
Like the fact that they’re already going to show up late isn’t enough? “If we leave too late the traffic is going to be awful,” Zuko says, aiming for something reasonable and logical and hearing it come out more pleading and whiny. Great.
Sokka snorts. “You only care cause you want to go ninety the while way there.”
What Zuko wants is to get there on time. “I thought you cared about plans,” he accuses.
“I’m coming, I’m coming,” Sokka huffs, audibly rolling his eyes. “Sit tight.”
“I’m sitting,” Zuko growls, “Plenty tight.”
“Yeah you are, babe,” Sokka calls back, smirk obvious just before the fucking hair dryer whirs to life—
“You haven’t even—Sokka! We don’t have time for that!”
“It’ll just take a minute,” Sokka shouts back over the noise, like he’s ever taken less than twenty minutes to dry his hair in his life. “And then I just need to pick out earrings—”
“Oh, are you fucking—there’s no time.”
“—and maybe do some braids—”
“I put it on the shared calendar, your fucking shared calendar—"
“—and touch up my nails—”
“—and now you’re going to be fucking late to your own fucking proposal your nails are fine!”
The hair dryer shuts off, Zuko breathing heavy in the sudden silence, horror slowly creeping into his chest as he plays back his words and—
Sokka swings into the doorway, bare-chested and definitely naked, hair dry and braided and beaded, nails a fresh deep blue and his favorite Hawaiian shirt dangling from his hand. “…Did you just propose to me?”
“…No,” Zuko tries, feeling himself frozen, caught.
“While yelling at me?” Sokka grins, delighted.
“No,” Zuko repeats, more forceful this time, scrambling. “That wasn’t—that isn’t—it’s not—that doesn’t—”
“Nope, that totally counts,” Sokka crows, grin huge and shit eating like this is the best thing to ever happen to him and Zuko is going to die. “It absolutely counts, and I say yes, and I’m going to tell everyone—”
“No, Sokka, come on.”
“—that I made you so mad you proposed to me on the spot—”
“You can’t.”
“—I’m going to put it in our wedding website and in my vows and—”
“Fucking hell, fuck you, you can’t—”
“Sweeter words have never been said,” Sokka says airily, ducking back out of the room to finish getting dressed and if it’s just a matter of pants it really will be only another minute… “It’s what everyone longs to hear from their fiancé!”
Zuko opens his mouth and then closes it again, letting himself slowly smile to himself as he mouths the word back again. Fiancé. He does like the sound of that…
And he’s pretty sure he can still surprise Sokka into silence with the matching armbands.
And the pig roast.

"The rain of topaz", Akira and Shoutarou's after story
On the day when Akira and Shoutaro had arranged to go swimming in the sea, the city was suddenly submerged underwater after a heavy rain… This is a sweet early summer story.
Tumblr media
I feel like summers used to be hotter in my childhood.
But today’s heat and humidity were still enough to have me wake up and turn on a fan, thinking that it was a close call.
If I continued to sleep like that, I probably would have turned into a desiccated mummy.
I opened the window to try and get the stagnant hot air out.
The sound of a windchime rang from afar, soothing my heart.
Every person spends the summer in their own way.
Akira-kun said that in his childhood, he used to eat the cheapest ice cream from the sweets shop in the morning.
Then he would laze around, watching the shadows grow long as the day went by.
And when the heat was getting unbearable, he would run off to swim in the sea.

……The sea.
The sea, you say.
Speaking of that…
“I’ve never been to the sea before.”

Akira-kun’s hand with chopsticks stopped on the way to his mouth, and his eyes started to sparkle.
And then a deafening shout shook the room.
“Let’s go to the sea then!!!”
Apparently, there’s something about it that makes the heat melt away.
And so, this is how we reach this point of the story.

The rain of topaz

When I opened my eyes, I saw Akira-kun’s face in front of me.
His lips moved; probably he was dreaming about something fun or tasty.
Instead of a pillow, he had a giant floatie.
Instead of pyjamas, he was wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
And instead of pants, he was wearing swimming trunks…
I did tell him to not do that, but maybe sleeping like this helped him to ward off nightmares.
We had planned to go to the beach today.
But it was still long before dawn, and the streetlights cast a shadow on the room through the curtain of rain.
I turned over in my futon and looked out the window.
I wondered why did I wake up at such an hour.
Probably it was because of the sound of the rain.
“......”
“Shouuu-chaaan… What’s with ya…”
“The rain is so heavy…”
“It’ll stop by the mornin’...”
Akira-kun went back to his happy dream without opening his eyes.
But I was still looking out the window, thinking.
It felt more like a waterfall than just rain.
And sounded more like a hail of bullets than simple water droplets.
…Will it really clear up?
It’s good that the heat will ease off, but I really did want to go to the sea as much as Akira-kun did.
“Shou-chan.”
“Eh?”
“?”
“...Did ya wet yourself?”
“I feel something wet.”
“Then maybe it’s you?”
Dumbfounded, Akira-kun got up and, with a surprisingly firm hand, lifted the futon.
His lower half was soaking wet.
“Whoaaah!!!”
“Eeeeeh…!”
And my butt was too.
And my back, and the pillow.
The whole room was flooded because of this downpour!

We rushed from the bedroom. I immediately jumped to the TV, and Akira-kun to his art supplies.
We grabbed everything that we could see and carried it to the second floor in great haste.
During that time the water level had risen from our ankles to our knees and then to our hips.
We were running up and down the stairs so fast that it felt like both the steps and our legs would break.
The room upstairs was getting smaller and smaller; it even started to feel like the floor was sinking.
But the electric fan was still on the first floor…
Just as I was about to get down, I saw Akira-kun stuck in the middle of the stairway.
“A-a-akira-kun, what is that?!”
“When I opened the fusuma, there was this huge tanuki figurine!”
“Ah, …Eh, but why?! Take more important things!”
“But~”
“Get up quickly! The stairway is narrow, so I can’t get down!”
“Well, it’s quite heavy…”
“......”
…Electric fan.
The electric fan that I had just bought was the only thing on my mind.
This tanuki’s face surely was cute, but to me the electric fan was way more important in the summer.
I grabbed tanuki’s face and kneed it in the stomach.
The impact immediately spread throughout its whole body, and it shattered all around us.
Akira-kun’s hands were grasping the air.
Slipping, I rushed to the first floor.
Water level was still rising.
Electric fan, seal, certificate of payment, winter clothes—at this rate, it would be better to bring this whole dresser up.
“!”
Akira-kun supported me from one side.
It looks like he has finally come to his senses.
From then on, the rescue operation proceeded smoothly.
To think that he was right to sleep in his swimming trunks…

This rain didn’t feel like a storm, but like someone left the tap running.
The night quietly went away, taking the rain and our worries with it.
“......”
“......”
“......”
“Good mornin’...”
“G-good morning…”
The morning sun was beaming on us, comically surrounded by all our belongings.
Akira-kun made me wear swimming trunks as well.
But the water level didn’t rise up to the second floor.
He approached the window from where the bright light shone.
I got up as well and stood near the dresser, looking over the landscape.

“Is this real…?”

It looked like a rural landscape.
Although quite an odd one, overgrown with houses.
In just one night, the rain had submerged the whole city underwater.
The sky still hasn't given up, and it rained here and there.
The peak had already passed, but the water wasn’t moving. Seemed like it wasn’t going to drain for some time.
“We were plannin’ to go to the sea, but instead the sea came to us, huh.”
“......”
“So, what do we do?”
Dejected, Akira-kun scratched the back of his head with his left hand.
He seemed to gradually regain his composure, but my heart was still beating out of my chest.
“......”
I was thinking about my dad.
“Let’s check how Sparrow Nest is doing.”
But when I stepped on the window sill, Akira-kun tugged on it.
“!”
I put on the floatie so as not to sink.
“Ah~, stop, stop!!”
“I need to go.”
“Calm down!”
“But dad and the others…!”
“Shou-chan, you can’t swim!”
Well, yes, but…
“I have a floatie.”
“Are ya goin’ to flutter kick all the way to there…?”
“......Then what do I do?”
The phone was left on the first floor, so I couldn’t call to ask them if they’re safe.
Things that we brought to the second floor were mostly useless.
Only now I had a painful realisation about just how strong yesterday’s rain was.
“I’ll swim there to check!”
“But it’s dangerous!”
“That’s why I’m tellin’ ya to wait here!”

“Shoutarou!”

I heard the sound of a motor getting closer.
We looked at each other, surprised that someone had called out my name.
“Dad!!”
A pure white boat moored near the window.
Not even wiping his sweat, dad looked me straight in the eyes.
“Shoutarou!”
“!”
“...Help me…!”
I cast off the floatie and jumped into the boat.
‘Help me’.
I've never heard my dad sound so scared since that day.
Landlady, Sally, please, be safe.
The motorboat raced through the eerie waters, carrying our worried selves.

“Oh! Shoutarou-saaan!”
“Yaa~an!”

Two of them were waving at us from the roof.
Fortunately, it seemed that the Sparrow Nest had escaped the flooding on the second floor as well.
But probably dad made them sit on the roof just in case.
Seeing them smile, I was finally able to feel life coming back to me.
Dad parked the boat next to the staircase and, with steady steps, went to his room.
Coming near it, he signalled with his eyes for me to follow him.
In the dimly lit room, he was preparing something with his back turned to me.
…Still.
Our old room had fully become dad’s lab for inventions.
Dull light coming from the window shone on an assortment of metal parts.
“‘’’That’ll do.”
“?”
“Shoutarou, look at this.”
Some kind of machine with a propeller was lying near his feet.
It was connected to a tube about as thick as an arm, the other end of which disappeared into the window.
A large piece of vinyl was floating on the vast surface of water.
“!”
…No doubt, it's an escape boat!
“Press this button, please.”
“Okay…!”
I did as I was told, and the propeller started spinning, pumping the air.
Immediately, a tornado started in the room.
The furious roar of the motor sounded like thunder.
Paper, screws, and other things were swirling in the air around me, but still I pushed myself to keep pressing the button.
And, slowly, vinyl started rising.
“Sorry, Shoutarou, I made a machine that only you can operate yet again.”
“Oh, okay!”
“It has become a habit of mine.”
“Don’t worry! It’s fine now, right?”
“Thank you.”
“...What is this?”
“A vinyl raft.”
?
“You can go to the shelter on it.”
“......”
“You will go, right?!”
The airway seemed to be clogged. And right at the moment when I thought that vinyl was going to break…
A giant swan head rose up.
“Thank you.”
“Sure…! But… what is that?!”
“A giant floatie.”
“Didn't you want us to go to the shelter…?!”
“Stop the fan, please.”
Rushedly, I let go of the button.
The sound melted gently into the room, and cicadas’ voices whispered through the silence.
“......”
“D-dad…?”
I watched the swan grow till the end.
And then.
“!”
Someone ran above the ceiling from west to east.
A white skirt fluttered in the wind lightly, obscuring my view for a second.
Landlady landed on the swan's wide back and turned around to look at us, smiling and faintly blushing.
“This is amazing, Tetsurou-san!”
“...?!”
“Sally-san, you come too!”
“Yan’ya…”
“It’s fine! I’m here!”
Sally-san shrank back, kicked herself off the roof with both feet, and jumped into the landlady's arms.
The swan leaned heavily for a moment, but after it gently wrapped itself around the two of them.
Vibrant laughter gently floated across the water.
I was shocked by how content my dad looked.

Town speakers had begun to function.

>>Announcement for the people of the Setagaya district.<<

A beach ball went high up into the sky somewhere.

>>Flooding damage has been reported due to localised heavy rain.<<

I heard children’s laughter.

>>Please, take caution and begin the evacuation from the area…<<

“Kyoko-san.”
“Yes?”
“Do you want some shaved ice?”
“Oh, I’d like some with strawberry flavour.”

I should have noticed the shaved ice machine on the window sill.
“Shoutarou, which flavour do you…”
By the time my dad turned around to look at me, I was already in the motorboat.

No one hears the sirens.
Cicadas still cry, as if nothing happened.
It’s as if the city is leisurely and peacefully enjoying this flood.

When I came back home, Akira-kun held a worried expression on his face.
The first thing he did was lean forward from the window and check if nothing happened to me.
“Are Landlady and others okay?!”
“Yes.”
“Did something happen?!”
“No.”
“As if I’d believe that!”
So it is natural for people to be worried. It’s natural, right…?
If someone looks up at you with an expression like that and asks for help.
“I’ll go with ya now!”
“Everyone’s eating shaved ice.”
“Haaa…?”
“There's nothing to be worried about”
“......Ya serious?”
“I am.”
“Er…”
“I am serious.”
“Well, if ya say so then… I’m relieved!”
“Yeah…”
“......”
“......”
So that means…

“We can go to the sea then?!”
“Yes. Let’s go to the sea.”

Akira-kun put his sunglasses on and grabbed a floatie with one hand.
In less than a second, he changed his clothes and jumped to the boat from the window.
He looked at me with his usual refreshing smile.
Sirens kept repeating the announcement.
But we were just as careless as everyone else.
I slowly started the motor.

Then we headed to Soshigaya station, but because of the flood, trains weren’t coming.
“Water’ll probably go down if we go to Seijo.”
“Yeah.”
And so, we boarded the Odakyu line and headed to Shonan.

…After all that.
Having calmed down, I started noticing different things about the surrounding landscape.
The Sengawa river had overflowed, and different fish were swimming here and there.
They didn’t seem to be perplexed by the sudden expansion of their world and carried themselves as if they were regular residents of Soshigaya.
But the most curious thing was that both the sky and the water were coloured amber.
“It’s so pretty.”
“It looks like piss.”
It was as if topaz gemstones were dissolved in them.
I touched the water surface, and small white waves spread from my fingers.
Then I raised my hand, closely looked at my index finger, and licked its tip.
“I-it’s sweet.”
“W–w-what’re ya doin’, it’s dirty!”
“It’s just sugared water.”
The smell of cotton candy, usually reserved for temple festivals, drifted through the streets of the city.
Probably it was one of the reasons why everyone was in high spirits.
Nostalgia brought back childhood memories.
I looked up at the sky once again.
“How strange.”
“Yeah…”
Akira-kun folded his arms and spoke in an unnatural and forced voice.
“Akira-kun, I was thinking that…”

“Shou-chan!”

We were interrupted by a lively voice.
An elegant row boat floated under the sunlight shining through the trees by the side of the road.
Kobayashi-kun was nonchalantly approaching us.
He sat in his dark brown boat almost as if he were straddling a horse.
Opposite him was Tadashi-kun.
“Good morning, Kobayashi-kun.”
“Oh, good morning! Quite an interesting landscape, don’t you think?”
“How is that rundown house of yours holding?”
After city renovation, mostly rich people lived in Seijo.
So you could even take the submerged landscape for Venice.
“Oi.”
“Everything’s fine. Only the first floor was submerged.”
“Oh, is that so? Well, if you’re having any troubles, you can stay at our place. We have an empty room.”
“Oi!”
“Thank you. That aside, where are you going?””
“We’re just sightseeing. Tadashi asked me.”
“This is Kobayashi from SRB!!! What do you think about this rain?!!”
“!”
“Kagome-san, I would like to ask your opinion on this unusual phenomenon caused by an unbelievable formation of cumulonimbus clouds-”
“W-well, untill next time, Shou-chan! Ha-ha-ha!”
“B-bye-bye.”
“Wait, Kagome-san! And the delinquent-onii-san!!!”
“Ahahaha!!!”
We were told to wait, but it was Kobayashi-kun and Tadashi-kun who were getting further away.
Kobayashi-kun’s laughter disappeared among the trees.
Seems like his son forced him to go mystery-hunting.
“...Did he just pretend that I wasn’t here?”
He really didn’t look at Akira-kun at all.
“Man, he’s annoyin’ as hell.”
“We should go too.”
“Uuu~...”
Looking to the direction where Kobayashi-kun disappeared, Akira-kun grinded his teeth.
I started the motor again, forcibly increasing the distance between us.

Water level started to gradually go down.
But still, Seijo station was submerged as well.
We continued going by boat to the next station.
I started getting used to this landscape.
I looked up without much interest. The blue sky peeked through the rifts in the light yellow clouds.
“......”
…Anomaly.
I remembered Tadashi-kun’s words.
Just as he says, this landscape is weird.
The yellow rain with the smell of candy, it felt more like a joke. And the forecast said nothing about any rain at all.
Adults adapt to everything so easily.
Despite experiencing something so unusual, they keep living as if nothing happened.
And by next week, or even by tomorrow, they’ll already forget about this.

“You too think it’s kaiju?”

I think that Tadashi-kun was trying to imply that.
Akira-kun sat at the boat’s bow, frozen in place like a figurehead and not looking back.
“Who knows.”
“Let’s say there was a cotton candy kaiju.
It was blasted in the sky and became rain… Something like that.”
“Shou-chan, this is kinda…”
“?”
“Well, no one’s buying that kinda story.”
“But it’s not like it’s completely unbelievable.”
“There probably was some explosion at a cotton candy factory. And then it got into the sewers, and that’s where the flood came from.”
“......”
But there’s no cotton candy factory nearby.
And sewer water doesn’t fall from the sky.
Hm.
“Let’s just leave it at that, ‘kay?”
Leave it… at that?
“Let’s stop thinking about it, and just simply live.
Other people probably do just that.”
People do just that…
“Who, exactly?”
“Well, I don’t know that.”
“So maybe there was someone who defeated the cotton candy kaiju?”
“No-no-no, ditch the cotton candy kaiju thought at all!”
“...But I think there was one.”
“Well, he’s now frantically looking into that, together with his son.”
Even though you were treating them like idiots before…
“......”
“Hero’s well, so he’s not sitting home, as they say.”
I don’t really get it.
Akira-kun started saying some heroic things again.
With his large back and his arms folded, he looked like a retired boss of a gang.
…So what he means by ‘leaving things at that’ is that someone’s protecting our peace.

“Assan.”
“A… Assan…?”
Akira-kun turned around to look at me, crossing his legs.
“You said you wanted a nickname.”
“A nickname should be more like…! Well, Assan sounds too distant.”
“Acchan.”
“A-a-and that sounds way too close!!”
“Is there even a correct answer?”
“As many as there are tanmenchan waits!”
It’s probably some mahjong slang.
“Well, I’m fine with everything you come up with.”
“Akkun.”
“......”
“I like how Akkun sounds.”
“......”
Suddenly, he got quiet and dropped his head.
Then he looked to the side with a grim face.
His gaze was fixed on a love hotel.
“I just got a ron.”
“Yeah, I can see that.”
I sped up the boat.
“I’m looking forward to the sea, Akira-kun.”
“Yeah…”
Even though I didn’t sleep in swimming trunks with a floatie as a pillow, I still was really excited for you to teach me how to swim.

We got off the boat at Kitami.
The shoal went on and on forward.
A train was standing at the station.
We ran towards the platform and got onto the train right as the departure bell rang.
“Made it~!”
“Thankfully…”
“Ah, Shou-chan! Where’s your sandal?!”
“!”
One of my feet was bare.
I tripped when running up the stairs, and…
I’m sure it was then when I lost it.
Akira-kun took off his sandal, leaving himself barefoot.
“Put it on.”
It was way too big for my feet.
But he made me wear the left one too.
“I’ll get them dirty.”
“Don’t worry about that. We’re going to the sea after all.”
“We’ll have to transfer trains in Sagamioono.”
“I don’t care about the distance.”

The train accelerated, leaving the rain clouds behind.
It was eleven in the morning on a hot summer day.

Please, tell me if there are any mistakes or places that sound weird.

Back to the Future Part III, The Novel by Craig Shaw Gardner: Thoughts, commentary, and general ramblings
Part 2: Doc tells Marty to kill a man
• Something interesting in the novel is that, after Marty finds Doc’s tombstone in the cemetery, he doesn’t go straight to yelling for Doc like in the movie. Instead, he actually stops to consider if he should say anything at all—on account of Doc always warning him not to share too much information about the future. Strikes me as un-Marty quite frankly. That’s not something he’d stop to have second thoughts about.
• After Doc reads the tombstone and panics a bit, he expresses his confusion over who Clara is. Marty suggests that she might be a girlfriend, and this reply “—seemed to upset Doc even more than the gravestone.”
And although it takes away from the seriousness of the overall situation, I do find it kind of hilarious. Yeah, whatever, shot in the Old West. A GIRLFRIEND??! The horror! I love Doc.
• I really do like the novelizations because of all the little, unnecessary extra info they offer. For instance, we find out that Doc and Marty are able to access all the newspapers and documents in the City Hall Archives so late at night because Doc is friends with the night watchman named Charlie. The two of them have a shared love for the Old West, so Doc is able to talk him into letting him and Marty in. It’s not important to know this, but I like knowing it. I want to know more about night watchman Charlie and what he and Doc talk about.
• They discover the photo of Doc at the clock tower and it says, “Doc felt a sinking feeling inside his Hawaiian shirt.” Fantastic line.
• Doc briefly considers what might happen if he himself went to 1885 to rescue his older self but decides it’s much too risky. And now I can’t stop imagining a version of Part III where 1955 Doc tags along for that week in the Old West. What would that have looked like?? I’m fascinated by this concept now.
• I like this exchange:
“Hey, Doc,” he asked, “you think I’ll get a chance to ride a horse? I used to ride at summer camp. I was pretty good, too.”
Doc smiled at that. “I don’t see why not.”
• I am just now realizing that this book uses single apostrophes for when people are speaking. This must be another U.K. thing since that’s where this book was printed. Was tickled by the spelling of “maneuver” as “manoeuvre” before.
• Hey, there’s a hug at the drive in just before Marty takes off for 1885! No fair!! The movie just gives us that moment where Doc sets his hand on Marty’s shoulder and wishes him luck. Bogus.
• Okay, so, Doc also gives Marty a little speech that begins with “I know I’ve cautioned you about interfering in events of the past—” and THEN he says that if something goes wrong and he still ends up being shot, he wants Marty to “—get that son of a bitch who does it.”
HELLO?? That certainly changes the tone of Marty’s send-off now doesn’t it? Doc straight up telling Marty to avenge him. Alternate version of Part III where Doc still dies and Marty follows 1955 Doc’s wish and spends the rest of his life in the Old West trying to track down and take out Buford.
• Marty sees the grizzly bear and the book says, “’Yaaaah!’ Marty remarked.” And idk, “remarked” is a funny choice for someone screaming in terror.
• Instead of immediately tumbling down that little cliffside and landing unconscious on the McFly Farm, Marty actually walks through their land a bit. In fact, it’s noted that he walks very carefully through the rows of green plants, afraid of accidentally squashing anything. That is SO Marty. Just ran for his life from a bear, is tired and afraid, but still so polite and considerate of the crops he knows are important to someone. He’s such a darling.
• “He squinted at the smaller of the two buildings, the one with the smaller door, fit to let humans in and out, rather than that place with the big doors for wagons and farm animals. That meant that this was the farmhouse, the other building the barn. Marty was very proud he had figured this out.”
Amazing news, everyone. My darling boy is also BRILLIANT.
• Unfortunately, Marty only has like 2 seconds to be proud of himself because he falls down the cliff two sentences later. In fact, he's so locked in on the farmhouse and barn that he just doesn’t register the fact that the ground suddenly ends a few feet ahead of him.
• As Marty lies there, rapidly succumbing to his most recent head injury, he thinks, “It was nice, being on his back. It meant he didn’t have to walk anymore. Maybe he should close his eyes. Maybe he would never have to walk again.”
…y’all, I think he’s DYING.
And we’ll leave it there for now. We get Seamus and Maggie next!

Note
can I request prompt 13 with HANGMAN? so excited that you're writing for tgm now 🥹
i am also excited anon! thank you for requesting, i hope you enjoy <3 (1k)
13. kissing someone’s forehead
The Hard Deck is a little busier than normal tonight, partially from the weekend and partially from the scattered rainfall you’d narrowly avoided getting caught in on your way over. Still, you’d managed to get a light spattering of raindrops on your hair and clothes.
You hear everyone before you see them. Rowdy yells and encouraging cheers echoing from some place tucked away in a corner of the bar. The nerves in your stomach pinch and twist as you make your way over, searching for the familiar face of your best friend.
You’d only met a few of his friends from the Navy a handful of times and even though you were explicitly invited to come out with them tonight, you were still a little nervous.
The sound of Jake’s laugh carries over the crowds, something you’d be able to recognize from any distance away in any crowd. The two of you lock eyes at the same time, almost like you were able to sense the other looking subconsciously.
Something in you relaxes, the sight of his smile like a soothing balm to your nerves. He waves you over with the hand not holding the pool stick. It’s nice to see him around his new friends, all of them out of uniform and in their casual wear.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he greets, straightening up from where he’d been sitting against the pool table. You try to ignore the swarm that grows in your stomach at the nickname and hope your smile doesn’t give you away.
“Hey,” you breathe out once you get close enough. You squish yourself into his side, your arm coming to wrap around him. It’s second nature for your hand to rub up and down his back, fingers spread. His shoulders relax and his arm comes up to wrap around your own shoulders.
Jake’s hand squeezes your shoulder and pulls you into him even more. He leans his head down just enough for his lips to press against your forehead. It’s a gentle comfort, one that makes a gooey warmth travel from your head to your toes.
You can’t help the smile that forms as you look up at him, his own smile making the corners of his eyes crinkle. You’re only a little bit aware of the eyes burning holes into the two of you but when someone clears their throat you blink hard and look away.
“You remember everyone?” Jake asks, the slightest flush of red on his cheeks. Your eyes scan the crowd, taking in the familiar faces even if you don’t really remember everyone’s names all that well. Almost like he can sense this, he insists on pointing out who everybody is though he only gives you their callsigns.
“It’s good to see you, again,” Rooster says, a genuine smile on his face. He’s got sunglasses pushed onto the top of his head, though the sun has disappeared behind clouds, and he’s wearing one of those cheesy Hawaiian shirts.
“You too,” you nod, feeling a little shy in front of everyone. It doesn’t take long for everyone to resume what they had been up to right before you arrived and it eases some of the tension from your shoulders. Jake squeezes the one his hand is still resting on.
“D’you need a drink?” he dips his head down to ask, lips close to the shell of your ear. A buzz settles beneath your skin.
“Please,” you respond and Jake nods. He squeezes your shoulder once more, pushing his pool stick into your hand before he’s disappearing in the direction of the bar. You’re not sure what to do with it as you sit and wait.
“Do you play?” someone asks to your right, Phoenix, you think. You shake your head with a slight laugh.
“Oh, god no. I’m a lousy shot, Jake’ll be the first to tell you,” you reply and you don’t miss the way her lips seem to settle into the smallest of smirks. She nods slowly, almost leaning against her own stick.
“Are you two…” she trails off and you swallow, mouth opening and closing while you try to respond. You fluster, nervously twisting the stick between your fingers as you shake your head.
“Oh! No, we..we’re not-he’s not,” you breathe out, trying to steady yourself. “We’re just friends.”
You can tell she doesn’t quite believe you from the way she hums in response, her eyes seeming to see right through you. It’s not like you hadn’t given it thought before, dating your best friend. You just tried to shove the thought as far down as it could go, never to see the light of day.
“Shame,” is all she says, walking around to the other side of the pool table to line up a shot. You blink at her. Jake comes back not a moment too soon, a beer for him and your go-to drink of choice in hand.
“Here you go,” you accept the glass readily, taking a generous drink from it the moment he hands it over. His eyes narrow if only slightly when you say thank you. “You okay?”
“‘Course,” you say, letting yourself smile as you look at him. And really, you are, because he has your drink order memorized and he greets you with a forehead kiss each time he sees you. He nods and takes a swig from his beer before setting it down next to your drink and taking the pool stick from your hand.
The what-if comes naturally as you watch him set up his shot, the thought making you drink again. This time you don’t shove it to the back of your mind, you let it linger and fester in your head, wondering if maybe, just maybe it is a shame you hadn’t acted on it yet. Wondering if there’s a similar thrum of thoughts bouncing around Jake’s head too.
Spoiler alert: there is and he’s at his wit’s end trying to contain it.

[PT.1] — BUTCHERBOY HCS »
Small warnings: cursing, implied violence, implied sex, and old man yaoi >:’)
Pairing/s: Billy Butcher x Soldier Boy/Ben
———
Tumblr media
———
When Ben and Billy started “dating”, both of them were actually really reluctant for two main reasons for both of them
For Billy, well, it was Soldier Boy of all people. And he’s a typical asshole bigoted supe! Didn’t stop him from getting that peepaw d though
For Ben, it’s really obvious. One, Ben was definitely NOT gay. And secondly, he absolutely despises Billy for making him gay
To be honest, they didn’t know exactly how they happened. But it’s probably because they both hooked up when they were both pent-up with anger
But who knows…
Both of them didn’t want to become public at all costs. One of the reasons being, yknow… MM..
But that didn’t stop Ben from being affectionate even in the slightest bit.
Same with Butcher too
Ben doesn’t share his liquor with the group at all but with Butcher? Yeah, both of them are finishing that shit in no time. Which, to Ben, is kind of a big deal. He doesn't share his shit too much
Butcher doesn't have too many clothes if he was being honest. Just his Hawaiian shirts, a sweater or two, some jeans, and his coat, but that didn't stop Ben from stealing his sweaters when Butcher wasn't wearing them
Both men don’t want to seem soft (somewhat for Butcher I guess, and Ben is a different story)
It didn't take long before the others found out (blame Ben for that)
As expected, none of them took it well, especially MM, but everyone else either accepted it or just didn't care much about it. Well, except for MM, of course.
Now, both of them are absolutely FREAKY with each other, that's no doubt
One round and both of them are definitely covered in bites (freaky old men, I tell you...) More than two rounds? Covered in blood, can't properly walk... yeah. Definitely freaky fucks
They aren't really cuddly, but Ben is clingy 24/7 when given the chance, even more so after they went public (kind of)
Like, kisses often, staying at Billy's side, sitting on the man's lap unprompted, more or less to Billy's dismay, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like it
In fact, Billy loves it, flaunting off his man like a proud boyfriend, even when it gets annoying sometimes
Ben still wants to have children but he doesn't know how to talk to Billy about it
Billy eventually notices that Ben wants to talk about something and finally sits with Ben to talk (basically, Ben cried but don't tell anyone)
Billy takes Ben to visit Terror, and Ben loves the lil' guy, asking Billy to get a pet right after they left
Billy pretty much agrees, and they now have an orange cat named Fuckface (Ben named her)
Butcher thinks it's cute that Ben is a softie for a random stray cat that they found on their way to adopt a dog at a pet store
And then the season three finale happens, but let's ignore canon! :3
In this AU, Butcher doesn’t betray Ben, but MM convinced Frenchie to help him try to make Ben go to sleep
Spoiler alert, it doesn’t work
Blah blah blah, all the fighting still happens and Ben is heart broken that it happened, but Butcher does fight with Ben
Ben doesn’t hurt Ryan btw
The Maeve and Ben explosion still happens, but what happens to Ben is different
Butcher goes out of his way to find Ben afterwards, and he does
Just in time, actually since Grace arrives not too long after
Butcher and Grace strike a deal with each other for Ben
Ben being under Grace’s watch (not in a box this time) while still being able to see Butcher
And Butcher doing missions for her in return
Obviously, Ben and Butcher also fight, as all couples do
Their most recent one being about Butcher being sick, Ben getting worried, Butcher refusing help, Ben being absolutely devastated that he can’t do anything but watch Butcher act weird and slowly dying (Grace did a check up, and yeah…)
Butcher tries to reassure Ben that he’s gonna be alright, that they’re gonna be alright
It helps Ben, but he still worries a lot
Moving on, both of them get jealous easily
Like, if a random person (guy, girl, or anything else), hits on one of them, the other one is definitely gonna act like they’re in the Omegaverse or something
When they’re mad at each other but totally want to get their Ds wet, expect some angry sex
The first time Ben realises that he loves Billy is when Fuckface and Terror were both playing together while Butcher was video taping them on an old camera
Ben was looking at him with pure joy, thoughts were running through his head, when he thought about how Billy is the man he loves
Ben doesn’t know what to feel about that at first, but he eventually accepts it because, hey, he’s an old man and he can love anyone he wants at this point
When Butcher realises he loves Ben, it was after they’d had sex
Ben was asleep, snoring away, the sun hitting his face at the perfect angle, and Butcher just smiled and thought
“I love my man.”
After that, things changed for the better
They were softer on each other now, only in private though because Ben didn’t really want to draw attention to himself that much anymore
When they’d both said ‘i love you’ to the other, they just cuddled with each other while making out
———
Aaand I think that’s all for now 😁😁 I’ll make a part two but with season four once I have enough motivation
edit:
And probably a part three with season five once it comes out, but that’s in 2026, so enjoy for now lol
Lots of love, hrtsoldierboy !

This may be controversial but I have to speak my mind.
I don’t understand how we as a fandom decided that Jake was more likely the womanizer and f-boy. Bradley was the one who literally sauntered into the Hard Deck wearing a Hawaiian shirt (because he HAD to be different) and aviators (INDOORS) and then proceeded to unplug the juke box and play piano to work the crowd. Jake was just chilling playing pool with his best friend while wearing his cute little uniform.
And YEA Jake teased the other aviators as they came in, but it seemed to be more good natured ribbing than any true intended insults. ROOSTER was the one who took it too far and told Jake that he was gonna get someone killed. You can see the moment Jake’s face switches from light hearted to a defensive mask. :(
If there is a fuck boy in this situation, you can’t tell me it wouldn’t be rooster. He would LIVE off of the attention of women and would use the piano to take home a different girl every night. He probably has issues letting people in because of the loss of his parents and mav, I feel like he wouldn’t be the relationship type unless he finally decided to unpack all of that in therapy (*which is a wonderful thing and I think everyone should go)
no because it’s not controversial. i 100% agree with you anon.
Bradley for sure suffers from only child syndrome and gold-star child syndrome. he’s kinda used to being able to walk into a place and all attention is on him. he’s been able to get away with a lot pulling the “my dad died while in the navy” card (can very much see mav telling him to suck it up. he’s not the only kid who’s lost a parent). i also believe that bradley has a hard time sticking in relationships long term. i think he’s very much a one night maybe a couple nights type of guy.
Jake on the other hand, i think he has some very strong southern values installed in him. Not saying this man is a saint or he hasn’t had his nights where he takes a girl home and returns her calls the next day. But i do think Jake is more of the settle down type of guy. i also think he’s got a lot of respect for all women, not just his mom and sisters, but just women in general. (bradley pretty much just respects carole and phoenix)
now, i’m glad you brought up Bradley’s comment to Jake. Jake was just tryna do some good old fashioned teasing like we saw him do when Phoenix walked in and when Bob was finally noticed. However, it was Rooster who took it too far by mentioning leading someone into an early grave. and you could see everyone’s face change, not just Jake’s. Those words had a deeper meaning than just some rivalry smack talk and Rooster knew it. Now i think, because of that Jake bringing up Goose was warranted.
My fan theory has always been that Jake, Rooster and some girl were in a love triangle, something went wrong and the girl died. And Jake hasn’t ever really dealt with it, just kinda shelved it and moved on, but Rooster hasn’t ever forgotten.

Smoker is the type of man you only meet because his usual bar is directly next to your cheap little hotel - blue with smoke, wooden interior, two games of darts and the TV always tuned into some type of sports game and him sitting right by the barkeep, nipping at his beer for two whole hours. You only stumble in on your first night because you really, really want a beer after a long, exhausting day of traveling. And instead of paying for that overpriced crap they offer in the hotel lobby that you’d have to down all on your own in your hotel room, you’d rather spend an hour with total strangers who smoke one cigarette for every word they speak. It’s convenient, the neon sign hanging by the door tells you it’s cheap and not too packed - and that’s all you need right now. What you don’t expect is two meters of bulk and cigars waiting right by the bar, tacky Hawaiian shirt inappropriately open for the spring weather. He’s intimidating, blocking your path to a cheap stout - but you’re grown and in a strange city. You figure you’ll never see him again anyway, so you swallow that little tickle of nervousness and order a pint of whatever they have on tab. And, despite your flighty stomach, you stay right by the bar - booths are for multiple people, not for out-of-towners who can’t handle the places they wander into. It goes pretty well, all things considered. Aside from an initial greeting, he doesn’t even look your way, too busy grumbling into his own pint and watching whatever match is on up on the ancient screen. It’s bearable enough that you come back the next day - a long, surprisingly hot day of sightseeing and dragging your feet through pedestrian areas has you thirsty for another beer and you’re yet again too tired to wander any further than your hotel room. The comfort of being able to simply fall into your bed after getting a little bit of a buzz going trumps the pull of flashy bars and expensive cocktails. So you poke your head through the door of the dingy little pub again and, like he’s part of the inventory, two-cigars-hawaiian-shirt guy already sits pretty by the counter, in that very same spot as yesterday. You greet him with a little too much enthusiasm but get nothing more than a mumbled answer back.
The next day, you feel strangely watched on your trek through the city. It’s pretty obvious that you’re a tourist (the puzzled looks to your maps app might be a dead giveaway), still, there are dozens, if not hundreds of you at any given little park or museum or statue. It’s not like the locals aren’t used to people traipsing through the city center looking at everything as if they’re seeing color for the first time, no, the city is on every damn ‘top 10 must see’ lists that have been plaguing the internet for decades - but you simply can’t shake it. No matter how long you spend pouring over paintings at a gallery, no matter how slowly you take your lunch in an eclectic little bakery, it never stops. You all but flee to that shabby little bar in the evening, looking to seek cover among the many eyes of strangers once again. A little buzz and handful of potential witnesses (should anything unsavory happen) sound safer than staring at the flimsy lock on your hotel room’s door until you collapse from exhaustion. Or maybe you just want to shake off that nasty feeling of being followed with one too many beers right now - you can’t really decide. That night, two-cigars-hawaiian-shirt guy doesn’t sit by the bar when you enter. He comes in, almost dawdling, half an hour after you. You’re already halfway through your first pint and have no intention of stopping at just one when he sits himself down with so much heft right beside you, it actually makes you sputter. It almost feels like your stool shakes when he plops down and orders his own drink, absentmindedly biting his cigars. It takes you just another pint to actually talk to him. And a third one to realize that he’s stupid hot. Sure, you registered his sheer size two nights ago already, but he’s actually ruggedly handsome: well-groomed and tastefully gray in a rough way that reminds you of some sort of 80s action movie character. He doesn’t talk much. It doesn’t bother you in your slightly inebriated state; every question is met with only a short, almost bitten out answer but it’s all made up by the way his voice seems to crawl right underneath your skin, deep and gruff but irresistible and somewhat smooth. You joke and laugh and sway around enough for the two of you, feeling weirdly safe with this total stranger. Smoker, that’s his nickname, and you think it’s oh-so-fitting and funny in your haze. He seems to have taken a liking to you, too - because even though he grumbles all the way through it, he even tolerates a game of darts that you spectacularly lose. It’s a wonderful evening, you think, and it’s nice to properly socialize after two days of looking at dusty museums and flashy sights, and even better today, after you’ve been uneasy every waking minute. You’re happy and drunk and even gutsy enough to feel up the abs of that handsome stranger who supports your shaky legs to guide you to the hotel room, trying to get the most out of this little chance meeting.
At least until you wake up in an unfamiliar place the next morning, the wonderful, airy feeling of a fun night out replaced by sheer and utter dread. You can barely register that your hands and feet are tied together, that it’s not the alcohol making you feel nauseous but rather the position you seem to have spent the last couple hours in- because just a second later, Smoker’s face is all you see.
That gravely voice you found so charming yesterday suddenly makes your stomach bubble in raw fear as he tells you to stop fighting and that you’re better off with him, anyway - seeing as you’re way too weak on your own and he's been looking for a little spouse, anyway. And you'll do.
