2. A kiss on the nose

38. A kiss while one party is carried

Here’s a bare-bones 5+1 idea: 5 times Johnny kissed Ghost on the nose and 1 time he couldn’t quite reach

1. The first time it happens, it’s supposed to be a joke. They’re in the mess hall, the entire 141 crowded around a table far too small for their hulking figures, and far too much money is being placed on a stupid bet. Ghost criticizes Soap’s sniper scores (“better work on your aim, sergeant”), Soap quickly defends (“Ah’ve impeccable aim, thank ye, LT”), and then pounds hit the table, which means that Soap has to prove himself. He stands up with a joking quip, leans down to press an exaggerated kiss to Ghost’s balaclava-clad nose, and marches off to the sniper range to defend his honor (he doesn’t notice Ghost’s blazing blush, nor does he beat any of Ghost’s personal records, so it’s a bust in nearly every regard)

2. The second time it happens, it’s full of uncertainty. Soap and Ghost are standing outside, just out of the light of the base flood lamps, their faces lit only by the glowing tip of their shared cigarette. Ghost is still in his hard-shell mask, droplets of blood staining the… plastic? resin? bone? Soap has never asked, and he’s not sure he wants to. The tension is thick, cloying and suffocating, and Soap takes a leap of faith. He plucks the burnt-down cigarette from between Ghost’s lips, brushes his lips against the tip of Ghost’s nose where it peeks out of the triangular cutout, and grinds the cigarette under the heel of his boot. It takes a moment for Ghost’s brain to reboot, and then Johnny finds himself pulled in for a real, proper kiss, both of them grinning so hard that they can barely manage it

3. The third time it happens, it’s full of worry. Their safe house is in the middle of the woods in the middle of nowhere in the middle of Russia and it’s fucking freezing. Ghost is bundled up as much as he can be, but he’d caught a bad chill the day before, and shivers wrack his body ceaselessly. Johnny builds the fire as best as he can, tending to it religiously, finding comfort in the knowledge that no one is actively hunting them. He strips his outer layers, those covered in snow and ice, and climbs into the cot with Ghost, wrapping them both in their emergency blanket, pressing as close as possible to fit. He wraps his arms around Ghost’s sleeping figure, trying to imbue as much warmth as he can, and he silently, softly, kisses Ghost’s chilled nose. Exfil is on its way, he knows, and they’ll both survive the night, but he’d rather them both be somewhere warm, or at least far more comfortable than this

4. The fourth time it happens, it’s a little bit sloppy. Ghost has his arm around Johnny, supporting some of his weight as they stumble out of the pub. Johnny had managed to drag the 141 out to grab a pint and watch the footie match between Scotland and… someone; none of them are really sober enough to remember who, only that Scotland had won by two goals and Soap had decided to celebrate with two more rounds of shots. Ghost has never been more aware of the gap between his short term and long term memory; he can actively feel each passing moment fall through the cracks, lost to time and drink and something akin to joy. Johnny’s still crowing about something, loud and proud and completely inintelligible, and then he surges up and presses a wet kiss to the tip of Ghost’s masked nose, grinning like a fool the whole time. When Ghost wakes up the next morning, his arms still curled around a fast-asleep Johnny, the only memory he has of the night before is the feeling of Johnny’s lips on his skin, and he’s completely okay with that

5. The fifth time it happens, it’s stark and sterile. The mission had gone badly, because they always did. The intel was fine, the target wasn’t unexpected, and there hadn’t been any outside interference, and yet… Ghost had taken a bullet to the arm, and then one to the gut, and blood had been everywhere, spilling too fast and too far, running in rivulets that Soap couldn’t stop. And now Ghost is unconscious. Wrapped in bandages, clad in a thin, stark white hospital gown, covered in a thin, stark white hospital blanket, and Johnny can’t help it. He doesn’t care that Gaz and Price are standing right there, heads bowed in a semi-private conversation of their own just two feet away. He perches on the edge of the hospital bed, Ghost’s limp hand clutched in between both of his own, and presses a gentle kiss to his nose before resting his forehead against Ghost’s. He’s not sure how long he stays like that, time measured only in the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor, but then Ghost’s eyes are blinking open, the anesthetic wearing off slowly, and Soap can only smile a tear-filled, watery smile, steeped in relief

+1: The sixth time it happens, it’s a warm day. Johnny had joked that they were lucky; Scotland only has three days of summer per year, so the weather choosing to behave for their wedding day is nothing short of a blessing. It’s a simple affair, despite the entirety of the MacTavish clan showing up for the festivities, and before Johnny knows it, the vows have been said, the rings have been exchanged, and the symbolic kiss has been delivered upon waiting lips. And it’s over. He’s officially married to the love of his life, and he couldn’t be happier. He turns to the crowd, preparing to walk back down the aisle with his new husband in tow, but instead he feels his feet leave the ground as Simon sweeps him up and into his arms. He’s grinning like an idiot; they both are, but they don’f care how they look to everyone else. They only have eyes for each other. Johnny gazes adoringly up at his husband as Simon marches them down the aisle, headed back to the house to get refreshed before the reception. He lifts a hand, wrapping it around the back of Simon’s neck, and strains up to kiss him. But he can’t reach. Instead, his lips brush the divot of Simon’s bare chin, freshly smoothed and still smelling of aftershave, and Simon grins down at him.

“Better work on your aim, sergeant,” he quips, and Johnny can only laugh, giddy in the knowledge that he’s always had impeccable aim

I had a lot of fun with this part, and the first page especially made me laugh a lot once I finished inking it... Lisa Simpson Toji... Dying Kamina Toji.... Dry Yuuta..... Speaking of, it actually took me some time to figure out the right combination of memes/references/funny faces for this page, so here are some of the ideas I considered as a little bonus ;)

Featuring Picasso Yuuta, macho Yuuta, Majora's Mask stone mask Yuuta, and of course Family Guy death pose Toji Love that I made what I consider my funniest page yet in the part that starts forcing Toji to actually deal with his gambling addiction. When it comes to the Tails Polycule what would other characters think of them?

Hmmm...good question!

In general, I think others would feel a bit weird about it (but largely they'd get acceptance from friends) for the most part

But under the cut I'll put some prime characters down and how they'd react to the relationship

Sonic:

I think learning about them throws Sonic off at first, just cause he doesn't expect it. While he'd feel a bit weird about it at first, I think he'd grow used to it pretty quickly (especially in a situation where they're already dating and clearly hanging out more/being more intimate in front of him and he doesn’t learn for a while).

All in all, he loves Prime!Tails, Nine, and the variants, and this kind of just fits in as an extension of his goal to be able to travel and adventure and have fun with his best buds, so I he'd be the last to complain about Tails getting along with Nine and the other variants. Honestly, whenever the polycule hang out as a full group I think Sonic is most likely out of the other characters to tag along.

Shadow:

He acts like he doesn't care or is indifferent to it. Deep down he doesn't really know how he feels about it and tries not to dwell on it. No matter what he probably feels a bit odd about it deep down.

Amy:

Completely depends on the context.

Like if Amy finds out alone or gets to have the first word about it, I can see her a bit thrown off or initially weirded out. If someone else makes an exclamation that even implies the polycule's situation is weird, though, I can see her sticking up for Tails' polycule by waxing poetry about how beautiful and precious love is and how it's none of their business even if it is a bit...unorthodox.

All in all, she’d be a bit weirded out, but she'd support them in the end I think. Kind of in a "Well, I'd never do that but you know live and let love" way

However, in a hypothetical situation where she meets the other Amy variants and ends up having something going on with him, I can see her start to understand Tails.

Knuckles:

Probably raises an eyebrow at it and finds it a bit odd, but he's got the same attitude about it as that one anime clip where the guy is like "Woah! That dude has horns! Well, not gonna ruin my day".

He doesn’t really get it, but Tails can do what he wants so he doesn’t care

Rouge:

I'm sure she's got some thoughts at first (probably finds it odd at first also), but in the end she doesn't really care and learns to get used to it. She probably started covering up for being weirded out and tried to be supportive by teasing them about their relationship. Like Knuckles and Amy she kind of adopts the "Tails can do whatever he wants. Not gonna ruin my day" approach

Omega:

He could care less.

However, I could see him getting into a situation like...idk...fighting some Chaos Council eggforcers with Nine (with Nine using other weapons he developed for combat, which would include some explosives) and being like "Tiny animal based lifeform [Tails]. Do not let this one get away." or something 😂

Big:

Eh largely indifferent. If someone told him about the polycule he'd be like "Huh. That's cool I guess." If the polycule wants to go fishing, who is he to refuse? But on their relationship itself, it doesn't bother him.

Eggman:

He would be the most vocal about how weird it is I think. But if they become enough of a menace to him and his plans he'll probably be too focused on how annoying they are to think quite as much about how strange or weird he finds that relationship.

It's also Eggman though so I think he's liable to change his tune from "this is so odd/weird/gross to me" to being able to make fun of them or tease them or use their relationship for his own gain in some way

Black Rose, Thorn Rose, Rusty Rose:

While I think they may take some issue with some of the individual relationships here, all in all (especially after they decide to trust Nine) they very much support them. They get it, after all.

Rebel Rouge:

It weirds her out, and it especially surprises her that Nine managed to land them all. She largely tries to ignore it and focus on business at hand.

Renegade Knucks:

Weirds him out. I can see him being vocal on how surprising it is Nine landed them all, and vocal (within Nine's earshot) about how weird it is.

However, I mean it with my full chest when I say that Renegade could make out with Dread, turn to Nine, and then tell Nine about how weird the Tails polycule relationship is. Even if it's just to make Nine annoyed or to make his dislike of him known. In a case like that, though, I think he'd start out being kind of weirded out and shift to being indifferent but still vocal about how he can't understand why the others would pick Nine (the case being that he starts to uh catch some feelings for some variants himself).

Dr. Babble:

Honestly, can't decide whether the baby even cares at all. I feel like he'd get more fun out of playing whackamole with them then worrying about their relationship in any capacity.

Dr. Don't:

Vocal about how weird it is, but mostly because I think he would just dislike the idea of others in a relationship or being obviously in a relationship in front of his salad. Fictional stuff or fantasizing about being in a relationship/pinjng is one thing (specifically something he can choose to engage in on his own terms), but being subjected to someone else's relationship is another. He tries not to dwell on the polycule's existence.

Dr. Deep:

I think he'd be vocal about how weird and "obviously gross" it is, but like...noncommittaly?

I don't think he actually cares at all whether any mobians are in a relationship, nor does he really care to hear about it. Rather, I think his outward reaction is simply out of a sense of saying/acting how he should act after learning this information rather than saying what he actually believes. If it came down to it, he'd use their relationship for his own gain if it was possible to.

Mr. Dr. Eggman:

So he does find it a bit odd and largely tries not to dwell on it, but how he acts outwardly (super weirded out, supportive, whatever) completely depends upon the context of the situation and what he's trying to do or make someone think. If you asked him how he felt about them being in a polycule, I think one of his answers would be that he finds all mobian relationships weird/gross anyways.

Dr. Done It

He simply does not want to know about this, and I think he'd largely try to ignore it

However, I think depending on the situation at hand (like if he was planning on manipulating someone to do something or feel some sort of way), or even depending on his mood at that moment he could be vocally weirded out or supportive or whatever.

Prim:

It definitely throws her off/surprises her when she learns of it, although I think she'd be fairly supportive (especially once she trusts that Nine and the others really do care about Mangey). I think over time she'd kind of get used to it and it wouldn't really bother her.

Hangry:

It could confuse him at first but he ultimately does not care. I think even if he did feel weird about the relationship or oppose it in any way, he'd change his tune if Sails, Tails, or Nine (or a combination/all three) made a delicious meal for the Boscage gang that he liked.

Kinda like the situation with Omega, I think it's funny to imagine Hangry shaking Mangey by the shoulders telling him to never let go of someone who gives you free food😂

Gnarly:

At worst, he does not care and gets distracted by some conspiracy or another he ends up going on about

At best, he reacts supportively but by stressing how Mangey should always be on guard

Although, I also think it's funny to imagine him thinking about the relationship on occasion until he ends up dreaming of kissing Knuckles variants under the moonlight.

Batten Rouge:

I think she'll be surprised at first, not expecting it, but eh if Captain Rose and Rusty Rose can be like that and support it, who is she to judge? If she finds it weird, she doesn't really dwell on it. All in all, I'd say she'd (at worst) want to trust Nine, but I think she'd trust Sails can take care of himself regardless of how she feels towards Tails and the other variants

Knuckles the Dread:

I think by post canon Sonic Prime the polycule would not weird him out. I don't think he'd really care too much all in all, but he'd express support in Sails' relationship.

Chaos Sonic (Specifically in an au where Nine revives him)

He could care less about the selfcest angle or whatever. Nah. He is so jealous. I think especially at first he'd act like he has to make sure the other variants are good enough for his "best friend". Although I'd think he'd warm up to the other variants over time and at least form an amicable relationship with each of them, even when he's on good terms with them Nine has to order the robot to leave the room if he doesn't want to the robot present when he's hanging out with Tails and/or the other variants (during normal or more...intimate moments)

Alpha Grim Sonic (specifically from my musings of an au where Nine rebuilds him post canon)

Again, the robot could care less about the selfcest angle or whatever. I think he'd be fine with Tails and the variants once he's sure they're not a threat and that Nine doesn't hold ill will towards them. I think that he'd comply to commands to leave Nine and his boyfriends be with less reluctance than Chaos Sonic (or at least, less visual reluctance. Even if he wouldn't want to leave the room, he'd leave pretty much immediately when asked), but I think he'd also be jealous of the relationship Nine has with his polycule without realizing that the feeling he is feeling is jealousy. I think, deep down, he'd want to be like that with Nine, even if he is fairly close to him already with his position.

Essentially, it's...complicated. But what he cares about most of all is Nine's well-being and that his wishes are fulfilled.

my campaign hiatus has gone on for too long so to cope ive combined my interests at their maximum potency and had some dnd-strawhats thoughts

thoughts in depth under read more... :)!

this is SO self indulgent. their designs literally did not change. but i am a firm believer that dnd doesnt have to be european high fantasy. and also one piece literally IS fantasy. no changes are necessary to fit into dnd. ive already imagined plenty of campaign/oneshot ideas inspired by one piece. so this was basically just an exercise of trying to replicate their canon abilities in dnd 5e as much as possible without totally homebrewing everything. well. aside from luffy. you just cant take away or change his stretching.

LUFFY: (human monk. drunken master subclass. outlander)

the only plain human of the crew to balance out with the fact that he still has rubber powers. obviously a monk. but drunken master subclass specifically because i think the flavor(not the fact that its about being a drunkard) and abilities both fit him really well. this line in the subclass' flavortext especially fits him: "A drunken master often enjoys playing the fool to bring gladness to the despondent or to demonstrate humility to the arrogant, but when battle is joined, the drunken master can be a maddening, masterful foe."

ZORO: (tiefling fighter. samurai subclass. bounty hunter)

a fighter with the samurai subclass is so very incredibly obvious... but i actually had a lot of fun geeking out while comparing the abilities to what he can do in canon; Fighting Spirit, Rapid Strike, and Strength Before Death especially! tiefling is also pretty on the nose for his demon pirate hunter shtick and asura form, but i thought he'd be really human-passing for a tiefling and theorized about his tail getting cut off at some point or another before joining the strawhats. initially wasnt gonna give him a feat, but i gave sanji a feat so i thought itd be unfair to not give him one as well, so sentinel fits the bill pretty well i think!

NAMI: (tabaxi rogue. arcane trickster subclass. criminal)

cat burglar -> full grown literal humanoid cat. this one is INCREDIBLY self indulgent... i love... cats... theres nothing deeper to this and no other reasoning. i took cat burglar and ran with it. can you tell that i love izutsumi dungeon meshi? rogue for the aforementioned burglar-ing as well, and the arcane trickster subclass for when she picks up climatact! the mage hand will be very useful for her pickpocketing. in the future as she levels up with timeskip, i can totally see her multiclassing into wizard as well! weather wizard!

USOPP: (lightfoot halfling artificer. artillerist subclass. urchin)

I HAD SO MUCH FUN THINKING ABOUT HIS CHARACTER SHEET. halfling's Naturally Stealthy ability lets him hide behind his crewmates since theyre (almost) all bigger than him, so its perfect for hiding behind zoro or sanji all the time. Lucky is also perfect for him, and I think Brave fits pretty well too when he puts on the sogeking mask. artillerist artificer is also very fun! tinkering and making magic items for his crew, and i think Eldritch Canon or Arcane Firearm could both be easily reflavored as kabuto or any of his inventions. for emphasizing his sniper-ness, the spell sniper feat was also necessary. i think hes my favorite of all the concepts. big ears and long nose combo is so cute to me.

SANJI: (half-elf monk. drunken master subclass. guild artisan (cook!))

race was mostly based on vibes i wont lie. squints. and that vinsmoke balogna or whatever too ig. but mostly vibes. along with the idea that i think a dwarf zeff raising him would be really funny and cute. monk is also obvious, and same subclass as luffy for mostly the same reasons. though the flavor fits him much less, i think the abilities still fit him perfectly, and this blurb specifically; "Your martial arts technique mixes combat training with the precision of a dancer." i really wanted to give him a different subclass from luffy, but i dislike all the other monk subclasses a lot and i found none of them fit him as well anyways, so to try and give them SOME differences, i gave him the crusher feat.

CHOPPER: (awakened deer(shifter statblock) cleric. life subclass. hermit)

this ones definitely a mouthful im sorry. awakened deer for obvious reasons, but due to magic instead of devil fruit stuff. when i was struggling with his race, i looked a lot at shifter because of his forms, but it occurred to me that itd be super cool if he could shift between all of the different shifter options instead of being stuck with just one to replicate his rumble balls. something like heavy point/guard point=beasthide, horn point/arm point(?maybe?)=longtooth, walk point/jumping point=swiftstride, and brain point=wildhunt. hed definitely need some kind of nerf though to balance out that homebrew... and cleric for class. duh.

ROBIN: (high elf wizard. order of scribes subclass. criminal)

robin is definitely the one i struggled the most with just because of her class. elf came pretty easily- shes very elegant and i think shed look cute with super long ears- and i landed on high elf instead of wood elf for the int-based abilities. i was really on the fence between sorcerer and wizard for her because i knew shed be a full spellcaster, but i didnt feel that any of the subclasses really fit her. i ended up going with wizard for order of the scribes since it focuses on texts and knowing everything. but also because robin with a flying talking sentient book would be crazy cool. it could also be similar to how she spawns mouths and eyes places to talk to or watch people. my "fuck it, why not. this would be rad. its my house" mindset kicked in with her i will admit. also the One with the Word ability made me cackle out loud when i read it. thats the funniest ability ever. anyways, i cant really think of a way to replicate her powers, but maybe we could just reflavor a bunch of spells to be her limbs or clutch; hold person, maximillian's earthen grasp, or evard's black tentacles. thatd probably work okay, and theres a handful of spells to replicate her ability to spawn eyes or mouths. unrelated, but i imagine nico olvia to be a drow. why? her hair is white. i am a simple man!
